The Use of and Elipse to Help Pool Player
Architecture, games, astronomy and medicine have something in common, even if it s not obvious at
first sight. What connects these different areas is called Conic Sections. Where do they come from?
Conic Sections are figures formed by the intersection of a plane and a right circular cone. A conic
section may be a circle, an ellipse, a parabola, or a hyperbola . They were first discovered by a Greek
mathematician, Menaechmus. He wanted to come up with a model that showed all three different
conic sections. With the help of Appollonius, they came up with the Double Napped Cone , which
clearly shows all three different shapes. In this project, I m going to study and analyze specifically the
ellipse. What is an ellipse? It s the set of points on a plane whose sum of the distance of two fixed
points is constant . The main parts on an ellipse are: center, foci and vertices. The focus is the most
important and the most used in real life. The foci determine the shape of the ellipse, therefore the
vertices, endpoints, major axis and minor axis. The ellipse is found mostly in architecture and
astronomy. For example, in London, the St. Paul Cathedral has an elliptical form. Studies have proven
that if two people stand at the two foci, and one of them whispers, the other guy can hear it clearly. In
astronomy, lots of people confuse ellipse with eclipse; THEY ARE TWO COMPLETELY
DIFFERENT THINGS! The ellipse is very useful to astronomers because it defines the distance
between the sun

A Historical Analysis Essay When My Name Was Keoko
When My Name was Keoko: A Historical Analysis Essay Before and during World War two the
Japanese invaded and took over Korea. They took over the culture and forbade the korean language in
public. They did not allow writing to be in korean. They forced the koreans to adapt their culture and
leave their own. In the 1930s Japan began a program to erase the Korean national identity by banning
the use of the Korean language in schools and requiring all Koreans to adopt Japanese names .
(KoreanHistory.info). With this, tension grew as the Koreans were forced to give up their culture. This
resulted in resistance groups forming. The Koreans wanted to fight the takeover, so they did. Japanese

Frankenstein Chapter 6 Chapter Summaries
Genesis Chapter three is crucial chapter in scripture; through this chapter we have a tendency to or
able to answer the queries of life. Why is there evil in the world? Why do people die? Why is life
hard? Is there any hope? We have a tendency to learn the planet that we have a tendency to occupy,
wasn t the manner it was originally created. In our day and age our world may be a fallen world that is
separated from God its creator. This chapter helps explain these questions to us. In the third chapter,
the angelic world has its own fall. This fall within the angelic world, intersects the physical world of
the new created earth. On earth, Adam and Eve should be in fellowship with the Creator of the
Universe, walking with Him within the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fallen cherub angel is allowed to test Adam and Eve within the Garden of Eden. He begins by
asking about God s command; He then calls God a Liar , and that the girl is to be Like God . Sadly

Adam and Eve, loose fellowship with God and dismissed from the Garden, beside the skins of two
animals that had died to hide their shame. Before they re dismissed, God spells out His set up of
redemption that in some unspecified time in the future through the Seed of the girl, the pinnacle of the
serpent would be done (Satan), even through the Serpent would wound the heel of the approaching
Seed of the Woman , and then Satan would be devastated. Therefore, during this chapter we have a

The Darkness of Colonialism and Imperialism in Heart of...
The Light and Dark of Colonialism in Heart of Darkness
In the opening of his novel, Heart of Darkness, Conrad, through Marlow, establishes his thoughts on
colonialism. He says that conquerors only use brute force, nothing to boast of because it arises, by
accident, from another s weakness. Marlow compares his subsequent tale of colonialism with that of
the Roman colonization of Northern Europe and the fascination associated with such an endeavor.
However, Marlow challenges this viewpoint by painting a heinous picture of the horrors of colonialist
ventures as we delve deeper into the recesses of the novel. Here we find that Marlow sees colonization
as robbery with violence, aggravated murder on a great scale, and men going at ... Show more content

Like Marlow, Kurtz began his employment with the ivory company with noble intentions: he wants to
create a better way of life for the natives. However, because of extreme hardships placed upon him by
the manager, Kurtz becomes the dark half of the soul: he symbolizes what Marlow may have become
if placed in Kurtz position.
As the treacherous villain of the tale the manager, signifies total darkness and blackness of the soul, as
he is responsible for the severely unbalanced priorities of the company through the extreme
importance given to the obtaining of ivory and the deficiency of importance given to human lives.
Conrad also implements minor characters to further the unexpected distinction between dark and light,
black and white. The white pilgrims are portrayed as materialistic, ivory hungry opportunists with
black souls; their behavior is violent and savage. Contrariwise, the black natives are civil, spiritual,
and have white souls. In the beginning of the novel, Conrad creates the fellow seamen who
accompany Marlow on his present journey and listen to his tale of the Congo to establish the contrast
between the materialistic and the spiritual. The fellow sailors do not understand Marlow s tale and
chastise him throughout, showing their reluctance and inability to

pricing products
Pricing productsIntroduction Products and services have a price just as they have a value. Many non
profit and all profit making organizations must also set prices. Pricing is controversial and goes by
many names: Price is all around us. You pay rent for your apartment, tuition for your education. The
airline, railway, taxi and bus companies charge you a/are; the local utilities call their price a rate; and
the local bank charges you interest for the money you borrow ; the guest lecturer charges an
honorarium to tell you about a government official who took a bribe to help a shady character steal

2. Marketing mix strategy: pricing must be coordinated with product design, distribution and
promotion decisions to form a consistent and effective marketing program. Decisions made for other
marketing mix variables may affect pricing decisions. Thus, the marketer must consider the total

Controversies On The Existence Of God
Existence of God
Major issues and controversies on the existence of God
Name: Yasin Eroglu
Student Number: 213483441
Course Name and Code: The Nature of Religion: An Introduction, AP/HUMA 1860 6.00
Teacher Assistant: Irfaan Jaffer
Due Date: April 14, 2015 Beliefs cannot be validated, and for this reason, people believe in what they
choose to. This paves way to question the existence of God, the existence of an omnipotent and
omniscient being. Given that the Divine is beyond sensory experience, there are questions and
controversies regarding His existence. Views on God s existence can be placed on a spectrum: on one
end, those who accept a divine power, and on the other, those who reject it. In this essay, I argue that
God exists. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, belief in God requires faith. Faith is needed in order for one to accept the existence of the
Divine. The existence of God is controversial (and unlikely) for one who has no basis of faith. This is
because reason cannot explain faith. Reason cannot explain the existence of something that it has no
basis for. This relates back to Descartes cogito ergo sum, meaning, I think, therefore I am. Although
Descartes was concerned with knowledge of the individual, this can relate to God. To think that there
exists a God inherently assumes that there is such a force in the universe. Given that religion is a
collective practice and an act of obedience to God performed by many people for centuries, it seems
horrendous to assume that so many people have been wrong about their experience and belief. One
can come to this conclusion through deduction by moving from general to specific; millions of people
cannot simply be wrong in believing that there is a

Kindness In The Scarlet Ibis By James Hurst
Summer was dead, but autumn had not yet been born when the ibis came to the bleeding tree (Hurst
384). James Hurst shows this vivid image in The Scarlet Ibis and foreshadows what will happen later
in the book. The narrator shows kindness in helping Doodle start to overcome his disabilities of
walking. But this is only after greed takes over and he doesn t want to wheel his brother around
anymore. He then later breaks down because he didn t want a disabled brother and to hurt his own
pride. The story is about two brothers and Brother (the narrator) has to help Doodle to overcome his
disabilities, but he is plagued with different emotions of kindness, greed, and pride. Kindness is shown
to Doodle in the way of his brother helping him. There is inside me (and with sadness I have seen it in
others) a knot of cruelty borne by the stream of love. (387). I m going to teach you to walk, Doodle, I
said.(388). The narrator takes Doodle almost everyday and helps him to walk and then he can finally
walk even though no one thought he could. Showing kindness to Doodle helped him walk and start to

The Design Strategy For Energy Efficient Buildings
In the past few decades, climate change has been an essential topic for the global citizens due to the
use of fossil fuel and other pollutions, which contribute an estimated 70% of the world s energy
related greenhouse gases (Jiang, W., Pitts, A. and Gao, Y., 2016). The design strategy for energy
efficient buildings is based on climate analysis, the main benchmark to define criteria design, in order
to reduce the usage of non renewable energy (Boeri, A. Longo, D.2010). Sustainability can be defined
as: the physical development and institutional operating practices that meet the needs of present users
without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, particularly with

Photography Controversy
Photography has been enjoyed by countless people since the late 1800s, the time period in which
when it was popularized. It has been a lifelong passion of some, and a passing hobby of others.
However, when it comes down to business, much fun can be had with photography. I am here to
persuade you why photography is fun, and why I think it is a worthwhile hobby to have. Photography
is fun because it allows the photographer to form an unbreakable bond with the object that they are
photographing; it gives unseen insight into that which is being photographed. A photographer s job is
to create meaningful and inspiring images. A high quality good camera definitely aids in this, but it is
by no means necessary. All that is really required is a complete understanding of the subject matter.
Correct photography is centered around knowing the subject enough to portray it accurately, otherwise
it will appear false. In such cases, edits do are not even capable of fixing these mistakes. inaccurate

Hardly any money can be made with photography, and that fact is hard to argue with. Photographs
only sometimes only give inspiration, nothing else. They do not contribute to society at all and just
provide a distraction from the real world. Also, photographs only capture a moment in time that will
never change. The object might have been beautiful then, but what about of the object now?
Photographs never tell the whole story, rather a glimpse of that moment. Additionally, photographs
can easily be manipulated in third party programs such as Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom.
Photographs never show an object for its true beauty because of this fact; it is far too easy to change
an object and make it inaccurately show what an object actually is. For these reasons, many people
advise Pphotographers to should spend their time focusing on a sustainable, real

Understanding The Concept Of Manners
Let s face the truth everyone loves a well mannered kid, but raising such a kid doesn t happen
overnight. Teaching your kid the basics of manners is a long term process which you can start as soon
as she develops language and communication skills. What manners you teach your kid at each stage of
her development will change according to her ability to understand and follow social values. Here are
a few tips to help you in the process:
1. Set realistic expectations
Keep your expectations realistic. Teaching a 3 year old kid how to stay put at the dinner table for 2
hours is nowhere close to reality. You need to acknowledge that there are certain things your kid is not
capable of doing, both psychologically and physically, at different stages. If you try to teach her more
than what she is capable of, that is not going to benefit her. Understanding the concept of manners is
as important as learning to practice them.
2. Create situations
Young kids learn a lot from observation and practice. It is important that you create situations or
expose your child to situations where she can practice manners. When you teach your kid to say hello
while answering a phone, make sure that she is presented with a few right situations to practice it. For
example, you can ask her grandparents to give a call, ask her to pick up the phone and answer it. If she
doesn t practice what she learnt, prompt her with a gentle reminder Remember what we learnt
yesterday? What should you say while

Nuclear Weapons Make The World A Safer Place
Debate Leadership Presentation October 21: Nuclear weapons make the world a safer place
POSITION: NO In order to determine whether or not nuclear weapons create a safer world, one must
consider what it means to be safe. According to Oxford Dictionaries, the word safe is defined as being
protected from or not exposed to danger or risk, not likely to be harmed or lost. How can something so
powerfully destructive be associated with safety? In addition to this, one may ask safe for who?
Nuclear weapons pose a legitimate threat to many aspects of life, both immediate and long term.
These intense consequences have been documented over time. The World Health Organization has
stated that nuclear weapons can create the greatest human catastrophe, for which health services in the
world could not alleviate the situation in any significant way. It is not possible to win a nuclear war.
There is no effective outcome and certainly no safe outcome. When a confrontation takes place
between alliances that possess nuclear weapons, there is the possibility of unintentional escalation
created by a false warning or unauthorized launch. This almost took place in 1979 due to the fact that
a training tape by NATO was mistaken as being real. Even an alliance with many nuclear weapons is
not safe against attack. A successful first strike, if able to even target one hundred nuclear bursts, has
the potential to abolish any nation s civilization. The first and perhaps most obvious threat is

What Are The Stereotypes Of Boys And Girls
Ever since birth your parents choice the gender, from pink or blue to the toys you play when you were
younger to even who was acceptable to hang out with. Boys and girls have always had different roles
growing up. Boys are suppose to be the tough and strong person who didn t ever need help with
anything and girls were always the weak ones who always needed someone to help or save them. Its
all how society told us how to grow up, women and men both share something in common and that s
how society says how we should look, women just have it a little harder. Starting at a young age girls

direction that no one would like them that s where the depression and self harm comes into play and

Frequently Asked Questions About Orthodontics
Do you still have some questions about how orthodontic treatment works? Let s answer some common
concerns our patients usually express.
How long does it take to get my teeth straightened?
The amount of time required for treatment is directly dependent upon your specific situation and the
method of treatment used. While traditional braces may take two or three years, Invisalign can be
completed in about 12 to 18 months. Fastbraces works even faster, often offering results in about 6 to
12 months.
How much does orthodontic treatment cost?
Again, the answer to this question largely depends on your situation and what type of treatment is
required. Typically, the longer your treatment, the most costly it becomes. However, many insurance
plans cover the cost of braces. We also offer great financing options that should make it easy to make
sure you are taken care of.
Are braces painful?
All of our braces options are safe and produce only mild levels of discomfort. None of our orthodontic
options are painful. When you have your wires adjusted for traditional braces, you may feel a bit of
discomfort lasting up to about a week due to the pressure of tightened wires. With Fastbraces or
Invisalign, even that discomfort is reduced.
If you have any additional questions or concerns about your orthodontic care, please contact our
office. You can reach us by phone

Blindness In Oedipus The King Essay
Even those who acquire the physical ability to see may be blind to truth and the comprehension of it.
Although humans have a large capacity for knowledge, even the smartest individual is prone to error
and may be ultimately sightless to the obvious solution due to what they chose not to see. This theme
of constant and initial blindness becomes recurring in Sophocles Oedipus the King. This recurring
theme seems to play an important role in the development of the events and characters in Oedipus the
King. The tragic hero Oedipus, for example, is the quintessential example of a character who
experiences continual blindness. This continual blindness contributes to the dire fate of Oedipus when
at the conclusion of the play he finally realizes that he had actually been blind to the truth for many
years. Jocasta, Oedipus mother and wife, is another ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the plague in Thebes is revealed to Oedipus in the beginning of the play, he immediately tries to
solve the murder mystery by sending for the blind prophet Teiresias. Oedipus refuses to believe

mocking of Teiresias in this scene leads him to stating the harsh reality that You (Oedipus) have your

465 468.) As the play progresses, it is revealed that Teiresias accusation about Oedipus prophecy is
indeed correct. The irony that is held in this particular scene involving Oedipus and Tiresias becomes
a significant element in the theme of blindness throughout the play. Although Teiresias is physically
blind, he can accurately see the horror of Oedipus past, present and future. On the contrary, Oedipus
can physically see clearly but is absolutely blind towards his inevitable fate that the gods placed upon

With Most Things In Life, Practice Makes Perfect, Or At
With most things in life, practice makes perfect, or at least close to perfect. Whenever an individual is
introduced to a new way of doing something, it is expected that they struggle a bit, before fully
understanding how to do it. This concept can be applied to various parts of my life, but most
importantly, my education. In my first semester of college, I was in English Composition 101. Not
having a teacher that was focused on interacting with the students and walking me through the writing
process really had a negative impact on my learning. I had never been asked to write an analysis paper
prior to that class and when expected to do so, you could say I fumbled the ball quite a few times. As
this course came to an end, my ignorant teen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This topic sentence included two characters which were both illustrated and explained as to how and
why they impacted the text. Including both of these characters within the same paragraph affected the
interpretation of how each character was significant to the story. It also limited the space I had to
analyze a single character within that same scene in depth. For essay three, I had to revise and edit
essay one, and strengthen the argument I presented. I chose to split this paragraph and focus on only
one character for each paragraph. In the opening scene which takes place at the Watson s home, Doyle
gives Mr. Watson an important task, by conforming Mrs. Watson to a housewife model because she is
incapable of handling a situation herself. The new topic sentence improved my essay s organization by
distinguishing how each character impacted the text on their own. Not only did this separation allow
me to add more context within my paper, but it strengthened my analysis by giving more
illustratrations and explanations. This substantial revision helped improve my developing as a writer
by making each of my body paragraphs more organized.
Another area in which I also improved in as a writer, is my transitioning between paragraphs.
Transitioning between two different ideas has always been a struggle of mine. I used to not know how
to properly transition, so I would simply start

Gender Roles in Genre Media
In order to understand the issues with gender roles in genre media you must first understand what
genre media is. In this case genre media is a term used to describe films, television, and books that
traditionally cater to a specific fan base. There are two general types of genre media, speculative and
science fiction (Sci fi) and situational comedy such as the Big Bang Theory. By focusing on women in
speculative and science fiction which is traditionally a boys club a comparison can be made to the
ways in which traditional gender roles and stereotypes are portrayed. Although this is changing young
boys and men are still considered to be the target demographic ... Show more content on

According to Stockett and Geller this binary opposition illuminated gender issues while cementing
female subordination and male dominance by restricting identifying women to their childbearing and
child caring responsibilities. Romanoff s infertility becomes her motivation and main focus during
Age of Ultron. While none of her male coworkers really worry about their ability to have a family, in
fact Romanoff s best friend Clint Barton (Hawkeye) has a secret family with a child named after
Romanoff on the way. At the end of the film Romanoff received a text from the happy couple of her
new nephew Nathan. At the time she receives this text message she is instructing a new team of
Avengers initiates. She has to take a moment to regain her composure before returning to her speech.

How Is Holden Caulfield A Hero
Don t ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody (Salinger 214). Much of the
story Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger consists of Holden Caulfield s social interactions with others
and his adventure home after being expelled from what seems like just another school amongst many
in his history. It goes without saying that JD Salinger has made a classic hit novel through the
integration of an eccentric main character and an unconventional plot. Although the plot is abnormal,
the oddity translates into something noteworthy as the book still retains the noteworthy qualities of
any other award winning book.
The exposition of Catcher in the Rye depicts troubled youth Holden Caulfield on his last day attending
Pencey Prep School forever as he was expelled just before winter break due to his low grades in most
of his classes. Holden spends his last day at Pencey in hopes of making some fond memories.
However, he ends up receiving an interminable speech about applying himself from his history teacher
Dr. Spencer. On top of this, Holden also gets into a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He has a hard time opening himself up and just telling the truth so he resorts to the defense mechanism
known as lying. Don t ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody. (Salinger

became involved in a skirmish with a manager in charge of prostitutes over a money dispute. Why
should I give her another five bucks? I said. My voice was cracking all over the place. You re trying to
chisel me (Salinger 103). He also gets into a fight with a childhood friend, adding to the tension. We
both hated each other s guts by that time. You could see there wasn t any sense trying to have an

Essay On Konark Sun Temple
What is the most iconic religious monument in India?
In the small city of Konark, rests one of the most unique and iconic religious monuments of India the
Konark Sun Temple. Built during the 13th century under the rule of Narasimhadeva I, this imposing
Hindu shrine is an amazing example of ancient Kalinga architecture and engineering.
Architecture and symbolism behind a giant chariot
Khondalite rock was used to erect the temple. The structural scheme pays homage to Surya the Hindu
Sun god whose figurative representation consists of a chariot pulled by seven horses. There are 12
pairs of three meter diameter wheels carved on the bottom lateral sides of the audience hall structure
(Jaga mohan), while the dance hall structure in front (Nata mandir) faces East to receive sunrise s first
rays of light. The wheels are particularly interesting: each one exhibits impressively intricate carvings
that can reveal the exact hour of the day down to the minute. These giant wheels are high precision
sundials.
Kalinga architectural style features prominent decoration, and ... Show more content on

Till We Have Faces Summary
C.S. Lewis never claimed to be a theologian in fact he claimed quite the opposite. His works fell more
into the category of apologetics than anything else, and he delved into Christian literature, science
fiction, non fiction, as well as a host of other genres, but never claimed to be doctrine savvy. However
In his classic work, Till We Have Faces (a retelling of the Greco Roman myth of Cupid and Psyche),
C.S. Lewis explores and illustrates the complexities of the modern man s as well as his own divine
search for God and justice. He does this by using the princess Orual s ardent questioning and
denouncement of her own gods and the fervid, pursuant love that the god Cupid and the princess
Psyche share as examples of the search for Christ that all of humanity must experience.
A gentle discord between her mind and heart, even as a child Psyche feels she does not belong with
the mortals around her. Nor, however, does Lewis s Psyche see herself as a goddess as the rest of her
nation does. She is instead trapped between worlds, and is not allowed to be fully human or fully
divine. This all changes when Psyche is to be sent to her presumable death as a punishment for being
called more beautiful than the goddess Venus herself. In Apuleius The Golden Ass (the most classic ...

Lewis s argument on man s search for the divine: that all of humanity must be humbled before God
before they may be met face to face. Orual s ardent questioning of the gods in their own court serves
as a reflection of Christ s gentle tolerance for such angry plaintiffs as mankind, and yet Lewis also
uses the court of the gods to illustrate the intimate moments when men may bring their complaints to
Christ, and He may gently reflect their own triviality back upon them. Queen Orual says: I know now,
Lord, why you utter no answer. You are yourself the answer. Before your face questions die away.

Dry Skin Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a perplexing, reoccurring immune system disorder described by red, flaky patches on the

patches of dry skin consistently. In any case, that doesn t mean the condition needs to assume control
over your life.
Here are six natural cures to soothe it s symptoms.

D, and evening primrose oil have been reported to help a few sufferers. It s imperative to just take
supplements that don t meddle with other prior conditions or have harmful side effects. Fish oil

Magnificent Catastrophe Essay
Critical Book Review #1
In the book A Magnificent Catastrophe the author, Edward J. Larson, writes about all of the little
details that has occurred in the First Presidential Campaign in the 1800s. He begins his book with how
the two parties, the Republicans (Jefferson) and Federalists (Adams), were going to compete in who
will govern the United States now that it is a free country and no longer under Britain s rule. Although
they had at first been friends they soon became enemies because of how they believed the government
should be. Jefferson believed that the government should be a populist government that trusted
popular rule. While Adams believed that America should have a strong government and that al ...

Inputting the photographs of the men of that time put a face to who was talking and what their
thoughts were about at the time. Having the photographs of the electoral votes taught me how they
were shown to people in the newspapers and what each state voted for. The 1793 cartoon that showed
Thomas Jefferson leading the Federalists in a meeting taught me that people really thought they were
evil and horrible people as there is a devil in the corner watching the men talk. Also, Larson has
inserted at the end of his book pages titled Notes which helps the readers see exactly where he got his
information from and the years and by who in which had originally wrote the information. The pages
titled Notes is a positive because it shows that his evidence that he found about the election is credible.
The photographs, the small background details, and the pages titled Notes are the positives that Larson
has contributed in his book. The negative aspects of this book was that it was boring to me. Although I
did learn a lot from it it did not catch my interest of wanting to read other books that cover this topic
of the election. Another negative aspect is that the diction that were used in the book were most of the
time confusing and I did not understand it. Larson could have inserted some more interesting events
that occurred during the election. Although this book taught me more about the election I did not find
it interesting and the diction that

The Importance Of Prayer In Public Schools
Public schools are put in place to educate students tempt them into religious acts that were not chosen
upon them individually, the judicial outlook of the matter is the courts find that prayers being set upon
in schools is inappropriate and unconstitutional, the presidential outlook from (Murray v. Curlett)
explains that students coming into school should not start the day with a prayer and should have
neutrality, the executive s feel that the practice of religions in schools singles out the kids who do not
participate in religions at home and should be rethought altogether. Each branch separately has issues
with the out coming of religion being shown so freely in public schools and can see the concerns
worried parents may have about it, but the dispute seems so easily brushed off that even the laws
passed behind it seems almost nonchalant. The judicial branch entered the argument of whether prayer
in schools violates an individual s constitutional right. In the 1963 case Engel v. Vitale, the Supreme
Court ruled 8 to 1 that group prayer in schools does violate the establishment clause of the First
Amendment. They went on to say that it Is not appropriate for an educational institution to endorse
any particular religion or their practices. It also said that the giving of federal funds to religious
schools was unconstitutional in Abington School District v. Schmepp, The court ruled that the bible
reading in schools also violated the establishment clause of the First

Pros And Cons Of A Child With Special Needs
Prisoners with Special Needs
A child with special needs tend to inspire us to be more patient and grateful while a prisoner with
special needs makes us wonder where the parents and inmate went wrong. The United States
Corrections system is home to thousands of prisoners. The purpose of this paper is to explain how
special needs, mentally ill, and substance abusing prisoners affect the jail and prison systems at both
state and federal levels. The effects of neglect towards these prisoners will be explained and possible
consequences associated with the acts. Lastly, the pros and cons of prison programs for special needs
inmates will be thoroughly explained.
Effects on the Jails and Prisons There are several different types of offenders in prison. Among the
prison population are mentally ill prisoners, special needs offenders, and substance abusing offenders.
These special offenders affect the jail and prison systems at state and federal levels because they
require more intensive or specialized services to be successfully reintegrated into society. If they do
not receive special attention, they can harm themselves or others, or become sick from substance
related illnesses. Mentally ill offenders must have access to psychiatric health, mental health therapies,
psychotropic medications, and types of special offenders need to be separated from the rest of the
prison population to prevent them from hurting other inmates. They also must be monitored at all
times so they do not

Examples Of Supernatural Elements In The Crucible
Supernatural Elements in The Crucible by Arthur Miller
Superstitions:
Superstitions is the belief in the supernatural element, that one event causes another without any
natural process linking the two events. Superstitions are linked to religion and its aspects like omen,
prophecies and witchcraft. These superstition beliefs are mainly applied to beliefs and practices
surrounding luck, certain spiritual beings or the unknown force of the Almighty. Superstitions
probably have been present among us from the beginning of time, passed on from generation to
generation, culturally transmitted and shared for centuries. These superstitious rituals and activities
can have a positive or a negative impact on one s life hence, may influence ones behaviour ... Show

This hysteria replaces any logical explanation and enables people to believe in absurd ideas and
thoughts, such as the neighbours that live next to them are committing absurd and unbelievable crimes
communing with the devil, killing babies etc. Arthur Miller in The Crucible shows how the townsfolk,
easily accept and become a part of the hysterical climate not only out of genuine religious piety but
also because it gives them a chance to express their repressed sentiments and act on long held grudges.
Not only did this hysteria allow the townsfolk to act upon their grudges, they also used this as an
opportunity to gain power, to become empowered. As in The Crucible, a few characters seem to gain
power due to the episode of the witch trials who were previously marginalised in the society of Salem.
In general, the women occupy the lowest position in the male dominated society and have very few
options in life. In addition to being restricted, they work as servants for other townsfolk until they are
old enough to get married and have children of their own. Abigail Williams, a seventeen year old girl,
niece of Reverend Parris. She worked for the Proctor s before Elizabeth Proctor fired her for having an

after Reverend Parris finds them dancing, instigates the Salem witch trials and leads the charge of
accusations. Despite her accusations, Abigail is an unabashed liar who charges witchcraft against
those who oppose her, even Elizabeth Proctor in an attempt to take her place as Proctor s

  • 2. The Use of and Elipse to Help Pool Player Architecture, games, astronomy and medicine have something in common, even if it s not obvious at first sight. What connects these different areas is called Conic Sections. Where do they come from? Conic Sections are figures formed by the intersection of a plane and a right circular cone. A conic section may be a circle, an ellipse, a parabola, or a hyperbola . They were first discovered by a Greek mathematician, Menaechmus. He wanted to come up with a model that showed all three different conic sections. With the help of Appollonius, they came up with the Double Napped Cone , which clearly shows all three different shapes. In this project, I m going to study and analyze specifically the ellipse. What is an ellipse? It s the set of points on a plane whose sum of the distance of two fixed points is constant . The main parts on an ellipse are: center, foci and vertices. The focus is the most important and the most used in real life. The foci determine the shape of the ellipse, therefore the vertices, endpoints, major axis and minor axis. The ellipse is found mostly in architecture and astronomy. For example, in London, the St. Paul Cathedral has an elliptical form. Studies have proven that if two people stand at the two foci, and one of them whispers, the other guy can hear it clearly. In astronomy, lots of people confuse ellipse with eclipse; THEY ARE TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS! The ellipse is very useful to astronomers because it defines the distance between the sun ... In the 1930s Japan began a program to erase the Korean national identity by banning the use of the Korean language in schools and requiring all Koreans to adopt Japanese names . (KoreanHistory.info). With this, tension grew as the Koreans were forced to give up their culture. This resulted in resistance groups forming. The Koreans wanted to fight the takeover, so they did. The Light and Dark of Colonialism in Heart of Darkness In the opening of his novel, Heart of Darkness, Conrad, through Marlow, establishes his thoughts on colonialism. He says that conquerors only use brute force, nothing to boast of because it arises, by accident, from another s weakness. Marlow compares his subsequent tale of colonialism with that of the Roman colonization of Northern Europe and the fascination associated with such an endeavor. However, Marlow challenges this viewpoint by painting a heinous picture of the horrors of colonialist ventures as we delve deeper into the recesses of the novel. Like Marlow, Kurtz began his employment with the ivory company with noble intentions: he wants to create a better way of life for the natives. However, because of extreme hardships placed upon him by the manager, Kurtz becomes the dark half of the soul: he symbolizes what Marlow may have become if placed in Kurtz position. As the treacherous villain of the tale the manager, signifies total darkness and blackness of the soul, as he is responsible for the severely unbalanced priorities of the company through the extreme importance given to the obtaining of ivory and the deficiency of importance given to human lives. Conrad also implements minor characters to further the unexpected distinction between dark and light, black and white. The white pilgrims are portrayed as materialistic, ivory hungry opportunists with black souls; their behavior is violent and savage. Contrariwise, the black natives are civil, spiritual, and have white souls. In the beginning of the novel, Conrad creates the fellow seamen who accompany Marlow on his present journey and listen to his tale of the Congo to establish the contrast between the materialistic and the spiritual. This paves way to question the existence of God, the existence of an omnipotent and omniscient being. Given that the Divine is beyond sensory experience, there are questions and controversies regarding His existence. Views on God s existence can be placed on a spectrum: on one end, those who accept a divine power, and on the other, those who reject it. In this essay, I argue that God exists. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, belief in God requires faith. Faith is needed in order for one to accept the existence of the Divine. The existence of God is controversial (and unlikely) for one who has no basis of faith. This is because reason cannot explain faith. Reason cannot explain the existence of something that it has no basis for. This relates back to Descartes cogito ergo sum, meaning, I think, therefore I am. Although Descartes was concerned with knowledge of the individual, this can relate to God. To think that there exists a God inherently assumes that there is such a force in the universe. Given that religion is a collective practice and an act of obedience to God performed by many people for centuries, it seems horrendous to assume that so many people have been wrong about their experience and belief. One can come to this conclusion through deduction by moving from general to specific; millions of people cannot simply be wrong in believing that there is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It has been a lifelong passion of some, and a passing hobby of others. However, when it comes down to business, much fun can be had with photography. I am here to persuade you why photography is fun, and why I think it is a worthwhile hobby to have. Photography is fun because it allows the photographer to form an unbreakable bond with the object that they are photographing; it gives unseen insight into that which is being photographed. A photographer s job is to create meaningful and inspiring images. A high quality good camera definitely aids in this, but it is by no means necessary. All that is really required is a complete understanding of the subject matter. • 13. Understanding The Concept Of Manners Let s face the truth everyone loves a well mannered kid, but raising such a kid doesn t happen overnight. Teaching your kid the basics of manners is a long term process which you can start as soon as she develops language and communication skills. What manners you teach your kid at each stage of her development will change according to her ability to understand and follow social values. Here are a few tips to help you in the process: 1. Set realistic expectations Keep your expectations realistic. Teaching a 3 year old kid how to stay put at the dinner table for 2 hours is nowhere close to reality. You need to acknowledge that there are certain things your kid is not capable of doing, both psychologically and physically, at different stages. If you try to teach her more than what she is capable of, that is not going to benefit her. Understanding the concept of manners is as important as learning to practice them. 2. Create situations Young kids learn a lot from observation and practice. It is important that you create situations or expose your child to situations where she can practice manners. When you teach your kid to say hello while answering a phone, make sure that she is presented with a few right situations to practice it. For example, you can ask her grandparents to give a call, ask her to pick up the phone and answer it. If she doesn t practice what she learnt, prompt her with a gentle reminder Remember what we learnt yesterday? What should you say while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Nuclear Weapons Make The World A Safer Place Debate Leadership Presentation October 21: Nuclear weapons make the world a safer place POSITION: NO In order to determine whether or not nuclear weapons create a safer world, one must consider what it means to be safe. According to Oxford Dictionaries, the word safe is defined as being protected from or not exposed to danger or risk, not likely to be harmed or lost. How can something so powerfully destructive be associated with safety? In addition to this, one may ask safe for who? Nuclear weapons pose a legitimate threat to many aspects of life, both immediate and long term. These intense consequences have been documented over time. The World Health Organization has stated that nuclear weapons can create the greatest human catastrophe, for which health services in the world could not alleviate the situation in any significant way. It is not possible to win a nuclear war. There is no effective outcome and certainly no safe outcome. When a confrontation takes place between alliances that possess nuclear weapons, there is the possibility of unintentional escalation created by a false warning or unauthorized launch. This almost took place in 1979 due to the fact that a training tape by NATO was mistaken as being real. Even an alliance with many nuclear weapons is not safe against attack. A successful first strike, if able to even target one hundred nuclear bursts, has the potential to abolish any nation s civilization. The first and perhaps most obvious threat is ... • 20. With Most Things In Life, Practice Makes Perfect, Or At With most things in life, practice makes perfect, or at least close to perfect. Whenever an individual is introduced to a new way of doing something, it is expected that they struggle a bit, before fully understanding how to do it. This concept can be applied to various parts of my life, but most importantly, my education. In my first semester of college, I was in English Composition 101. Not having a teacher that was focused on interacting with the students and walking me through the writing process really had a negative impact on my learning. I had never been asked to write an analysis paper prior to that class and when expected to do so, you could say I fumbled the ball quite a few times. As this course came to an end, my ignorant teen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This topic sentence included two characters which were both illustrated and explained as to how and why they impacted the text. Including both of these characters within the same paragraph affected the interpretation of how each character was significant to the story. It also limited the space I had to analyze a single character within that same scene in depth. For essay three, I had to revise and edit essay one, and strengthen the argument I presented. I chose to split this paragraph and focus on only one character for each paragraph. In the opening scene which takes place at the Watson s home, Doyle gives Mr. Watson an important task, by conforming Mrs. Watson to a housewife model because she is incapable of handling a situation herself. The new topic sentence improved my essay s organization by distinguishing how each character impacted the text on their own. Not only did this separation allow me to add more context within my paper, but it strengthened my analysis by giving more illustratrations and explanations. This substantial revision helped improve my developing as a writer by making each of my body paragraphs more organized. Another area in which I also improved in as a writer, is my transitioning between paragraphs. Transitioning between two different ideas has always been a struggle of mine. There are two general types of genre media, speculative and science fiction (Sci fi) and situational comedy such as the Big Bang Theory. Much of the story Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger consists of Holden Caulfield s social interactions with others and his adventure home after being expelled from what seems like just another school amongst many in his history. It goes without saying that JD Salinger has made a classic hit novel through the integration of an eccentric main character and an unconventional plot. Although the plot is abnormal, the oddity translates into something noteworthy as the book still retains the noteworthy qualities of any other award winning book. The exposition of Catcher in the Rye depicts troubled youth Holden Caulfield on his last day attending Pencey Prep School forever as he was expelled just before winter break due to his low grades in most of his classes. Holden spends his last day at Pencey in hopes of making some fond memories. However, he ends up receiving an interminable speech about applying himself from his history teacher Dr. Spencer. In the small city of Konark, rests one of the most unique and iconic religious monuments of India the Konark Sun Temple. Built during the 13th century under the rule of Narasimhadeva I, this imposing Hindu shrine is an amazing example of ancient Kalinga architecture and engineering. Architecture and symbolism behind a giant chariot Khondalite rock was used to erect the temple. The structural scheme pays homage to Surya the Hindu Sun god whose figurative representation consists of a chariot pulled by seven horses. There are 12 pairs of three meter diameter wheels carved on the bottom lateral sides of the audience hall structure (Jaga mohan), while the dance hall structure in front (Nata mandir) faces East to receive sunrise s first rays of light. • 24. Till We Have Faces Summary C.S. Lewis never claimed to be a theologian in fact he claimed quite the opposite. His works fell more into the category of apologetics than anything else, and he delved into Christian literature, science fiction, non fiction, as well as a host of other genres, but never claimed to be doctrine savvy. However In his classic work, Till We Have Faces (a retelling of the Greco Roman myth of Cupid and Psyche), C.S. Lewis explores and illustrates the complexities of the modern man s as well as his own divine search for God and justice. He does this by using the princess Orual s ardent questioning and denouncement of her own gods and the fervid, pursuant love that the god Cupid and the princess Psyche share as examples of the search for Christ that all of humanity must experience. A gentle discord between her mind and heart, even as a child Psyche feels she does not belong with the mortals around her. Nor, however, does Lewis s Psyche see herself as a goddess as the rest of her nation does. She is instead trapped between worlds, and is not allowed to be fully human or fully divine. This all changes when Psyche is to be sent to her presumable death as a punishment for being called more beautiful than the goddess Venus herself. In Apuleius The Golden Ass (the most classic ... Having the photographs of the electoral votes taught me how they were shown to people in the newspapers and what each state voted for. Also, Larson has inserted at the end of his book pages titled Notes which helps the readers see exactly where he got his information from and the years and by who in which had originally wrote the information. The judicial branch entered the argument of whether prayer in schools violates an individual s constitutional right. In the 1963 case Engel v. Vitale, the Supreme Court ruled 8 to 1 that group prayer in schools does violate the establishment clause of the First Amendment. They went on to say that it Is not appropriate for an educational institution to endorse any particular religion or their practices. Not only did this hysteria allow the townsfolk to act upon their grudges, they also used this as an opportunity to gain power, to become empowered. As in The Crucible, a few characters seem to gain power due to the episode of the witch trials who were previously marginalised in the society of Salem.
