Taking a Look at the Manhattan Project
Although the Manhattan project was a bomb it was the psychological effects of the two bomb
droppings that did more damage than the actual destruction caused. The projected was started through
United States concern that the Germans were developing a similar weapon. It was kept a well guarded
secret and when it was used for the first time on a city caused a horrible shock. The decision to use the
bomb was not made lightly and had many different reasons behind it. It was made especially hard after
seeing the actual destruction it could cause because unveiling the technology would lead to others
wanting to replicate it. In the end though it was used on Japan and though it caused less damage than
previous air raids it lead to their surrender. While nuclear fission was believed to be possible in
Germany since 1938 it was not put into actionin the United States until 1943. That year Allied
scientists created a plan to use the fission to build an atomic bomb before the Germans could. In early
1939 word spread like wildfire that Germany had learned hot to split an atom. The fears this struck in
the scientific community encouraged scientist, like Albert Einstein, who fled Nazi persecution, and
Enrico Fermi, who escaped Fascist Italy, to approach the President. They wanted to express the
dangers of the technology and to urge him to start an atomic research program in the United States.
Fermi decided to travel to Washington only to be faced with the fact that no one else felt the

Emergency Plan Essay
8. Outline of emergency plans
The UK has two separate plans regarding influenza; the first is their pandemic plan; the second is their
annual influenza plan for seasonal influenza. The focus of each plan is broadly similar, and it is to
mitigate the impact of any influenza outbreak, epidemic or pandemic by: adequate surveillance and
detection of cases; prevention of infection using vaccination; treatment of high risk cases with
antivirals; and non pharmaceutical control of transmission by recommending hand and respiratory
hygiene, self isolation and limited use of face masks for health and social care workers. The
differences in the plans lie mainly with vaccination and the scope of the plans regarding control of
transmission (DOH, 2011; Public ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Local health authorities are responsible for delivery of healthcare aspects of the plan, including
vaccination and antiviral treatment, as well as local surveillance (DOH, 2011). However, the impact of
a pandemic will potentially be felt across every sector of society and thus the pandemic plans extend
to recommendations for all business and public sectors, including essential services such as
water/sewage, energy, education, food supplies and transport. They also extend to the media as they
have a role in disseminating information, and to recommendations for Ministry of Defence (MOD)
involvement to provide assistance if civil capabilities are exceeded (DOH, 2011). Part 2 of the Civil
Contingencies Act 2004 allows for emergency powers to be established in extreme situations and The
Public Health (Control of Disease) Act 1984 extends powers to the level of the individual allowing
restrictions to be imposed on an individual provided they are in the best interests of public health

Antigone By Sophocles Antigone
In Sophocles, Antigone begins with the stages of grief as Antigone mourns the loss of her two
brothers, Polyneikes and Eteokles, who die simultaneously in face to face combat in Thebes. Eteokles
dies with honor fighting for the Thebesians and is honored with rituals and a proper burial. The body
of Polyneikes, who attempted to burn the city of Thebes, is left for the dogs and birds to savage.
Thesbesian s law forbids anyone giving a traitor, like Polyneikes, a proper burial, for that itself is a
crime punishable by death. Antigone is angered that Polyneikes is not going to receive a proper burial
and is determined that she must honor him even if it means the end of her life. Antigone alone
attempts to bury her brother, but is captured and imprisoned, at which point she decides to form a
noose around her neck and end her life. Sophocles leaves the reader to question whether Antigone s
suicide is an act of heroism, a stand for the citizens of Thebes, or a selfish way of coping with
personal trauma. Antigone sought assistance in burying her brother from her only family member
alive, her sister, Ismene, who tries to reason with her. Ismene proclaims, Remember, we re women.
How can we fight men? They re stronger (Sophocles 749). The physical statures of neither Polyneikes
nor Antigone were not ever mentioned, but in general men typically weigh more and have a larger
build than women. We have to assume that she doesn t want to elicit help from others because the risk

Imagery In Blood Meridian
McCarthy s descriptions of the setting in Chapter four of his fifth published book, Blood Meridian or
The Evening Redness in the West (McCarthy, 1985), published in 1985, and sets a visual imagery for
the reader to experience the book as one of the characters. Chapter four begins with the charters
heading into the desert with minimal food and supplies. Throughout the trip many men fall ill and pass
away along with their horses. The characters encounter numerous obstacles with wolves and the desert
sand. The chapter ends with most of the characters being slaughtered by several Comanche warriors
leaving only a few alive, one of them being the Kid. Blood Meridian is a novel that challenges the
myth of the western American landscape being this Promised Land for those heroic men who were
brave enough to dare to concur it. By McCarthy describing the landscape as less than attractive, the
empty villages, dry dessert and numerous dead bodies found.
Death is seen as the end of life, the end of what was once beautiful and pure. In the book, Blood

Throughout the novel many animal sounds are described to the reader such as the prairie wolves
howling (McCarthy 44), and the snarling of flies (McCarthy 45). There are animals who do not make
sounds but are present and seen by the characters also such as the wild pigs and numerous birds
(McCarthy 44). The animals presence reminds the reader that the landscape is not vacant and there are
other signs of life out there.
In Blood Meridian the characters appear to be insignificant but in relation to the enormous open
landscape they move through. The lack of life and plantation make it impossible to hide and seek
shelter, which makes the characters exposed. The huge sky, with the vital sun and empty dessert
landscape depicts the land as an enormous space full of emptiness, a place beyond civilization where

Vladimir Lenin s Role In Russian History
Vladimir Lenin played a very important role in Russia s history. Lenin had almost the same exact
views about government as Karl Marx did. During Lenin s rule he made decisions that really changed
the nation. However, Lenin not only played an important rule in Russian history but in universal
history as well. He has been known as the greatest revolutionary leader behind Karl Marx, the one
who opened up everyone s eyes to communism (Vladimir Lenin Biography).
Vladimir Ilich Ulyanov was Lenin s birth name. He took on the last name Lenin when he was working
under the table with his government party. Lenin was born in Simbirsk, Russia, on April 22, 1870.

Historical Significance of Eleanor Rigby
Overview A song by Beatles, Eleanor Rigby was released simultaneously on the album Revolver in
the year 1966 as well as on a 45 rpm single. Primarily, the song was written by Paul McCartney and
was dedicated to Lennon McCartney (Miles, 1997). George Martin did a great job at making a string
quartet arrangement. The striking lyrics about loneliness along with the arrangement transformed the
kind of songs from what were mostly pop oriented to the kind that were studio based. There is no
second opinion about the fact that this song made a dent in the conventions of the popular music; both
in terms of lyrics and music (Campbell and Bondy, 2008). Pertaining to the fates and concerns of the
elderly that are mostly neglected, Richie Unterberger has said that this is one of the main reasons why
Beatles have been able to catch the attention of people who are beyond the traditional rock audience
(Unterberger, 2013). Historical Significance This song also has a historical connotation since there is a
gravestone by the name of Eleanor Rigby in St. Peter s Churchyard that is situated in Woolton, United
Kingdom. It should be noted that Woolton is a suburb of the city of Liverpool and this is where
Lennon and McCartney first met during a fete at St. Peter s Church. According to the gravestone that
bears the name of Eleanor, she died at the age of 44 in the year 1939. Nonetheless, Eleanor is not the
kind of lonely people that the Beatles have stressed upon in their song as she was

An Analysis of Faulkner s Barn Burning and Shingles for...
An Analysis of Faulkner s Barn Burning and Shingles for the Lord
In Barn Burning, Faulkner s usual style of long sentences and detailed descriptions continues.
Although the run on sentences are not quite as complicated or abundant as those of the other Faulkner
works we have read, I still found myself wondering to some extent what the story was really about.
Was it just about a bitter man s spitefulness toward Colonel de Spain as a result of his jealousy of the
colonel s status? Or was there more to it? I also was left wondering why Faulkner did not refer to
Sarty by name most of the time, but rather as the boy. Did he want the reader to be less identified with
Sarty even though he was the narrator? Did he want his reader to ... Show more content on

Faulkner uses he said to connotate the dialogue, but since there are two he characters in this particular
case, it is difficult to figure out which one Faulkner is referring to.
On a different note, I did notice that Faulkner once again placed several references and emphasis on
eyes, especially the father s. On page 16, the narrator says the gray eyes glinted coldly in reference to
the father s eyes. The father s cold eyes are again described on page 19. The reference to people s eyes
remingded me of descriptions of Dilsey s eyes from The Sound and the Fury and Charlotte s eyes
from The Wild Palms. I thought it was interesting to see the recurrence of emphasis on the character s
eyes.
Shingles for the Lord much easier to read than even Barn Burning. The story was very straight foward
and simplified, unlike much of Faulkner s other work we have read. I found myself reading through it
very quickly without having to stop to reread something. The language was easy to understand, the
characters were clearly identified, and there was not an abundance of run on sentences.
I found Pap to be a quite intriguing character. It was strange that every action he took was motivated
by spite and his contempt for the other characters, much like the father from Barn Burning. The two
men almost sound as though they could be the same character. The story is told from the familiar first
person viewpoint of

Essay On Cryptosporidium Parvum
Cryptosporidium Parvum: Transmission and Infection
Cryptosporidium parvum is a protozoan intestinal parasite causing a short term enteric illness in
individuals with functioning immune systems, and can cause a potentially fatal infection in
immunosuppressed individuals. Because of C. parvum s resistance to many of the procedures used to
process drinking water and food, and the parasite s extremely high fecundity, the potential for a large
scale outbreak is very high. In fact, C. parvum was responsible for an outbreak in Milwaukee in 1993
when an estimated 403,000 people became ill. This was the largest waterborne outbreak of disease in
United States history. This paper will cover some aspects of C. parvum s life cycle, human sickness ...

The infective dose may be as little as one oocyst, and severe diarrhea can occur, causing the individual
to pass up to 20 liters of fluid in one 24 hour period (Donnelly amp; Stentiford, 1997). This inevitably
leads to death.
Transmission of the parasite can occur in several different ways. Direct transmission can occur by
handling infected animal or human feces. One quarter of reported direct transmission infections
occurred by direct contact with feces, while the rest were reported to have happened by person to
person contact (Donnelly amp; Stentiford, 1997).
Person to person transmission can occur through poor hygiene habits or by handling human waste.
Daycares and nursing homes are at a high risk for person to person transmission because of the high
risk of handling infected feces. Family outbreaks are common, as are outbreaks among children at
nurseries (Donnelly amp; Stentiford, 1997).
Indirect transmission by the water or foodborne route is one of the most common ways C. parvum is
spread. Because of the oocyst s resistance to chlorination, several outbreaks have been caused by
waterborne transmission. In one study (Carpenter et al.), oocysts were removed from the feces of an
experimentally infected calf, cleaned of fecal matter, and placed into different amounts of chlorinated
water at different temperatures. Although this experiment had been performed before, this was

Charity Personal Statement
Many believe that charity is a part of life. However, I believe that charity is a way of life. I struggle to
draw the line between future goals and charitable commitments because they are so similar in my
plans for the future. My mission is to develop healthy, driven, and independent communities.
Through my active pursuit of a career in nursing, I am acquiring the tools necessary to promote
community and public health. Because of my identity in God as a Christian, I am equipped to
encourage spiritual health through Christian love and moral uprightness. Over the last six months, I
have been involved in a church based community development in Rockaway Beach, a town in an
extreme economic slump. Through my experience serving in this community, I have seen firsthand the
multitude of preventable health issues linked to economic and spiritual poverty. I desire to use that
knowledge to assist communities with similar struggles. I will pursue a doctorate of Nurse Practice
after graduation to maximize my service potential to a community with a critical shortage of medical
professionals.

Dichotomy In Rear Window
Alfred Hitchcock once defined his film Rear Window (Hitchcock, 1954), as the story of a man who
cannot move and looks through a window, about what he sees and how he reacts to it (Truffaut, 1986).
In addition, Hitchcock constructs the character of the protagonist of the film, Jeff (James Steward), not
only by using cinematographic devices to show how Jeff interprets what he sees and his own life, but
also stabilising a dichotomy between what he looks at and what he lives.
At the beginning of the film, a camera movement reveals Jeff´s profession and why he is immobilized
in a wheel chair. He is a photographer, interested in looking at other´s lives; consequently, he could be
described as a voyeur. Across a very limited space the courtyard ... Show more content on

For those reasons, even when he is in a sweet moment with Lisa in his arms, he prefers looking at the
outside of his apartment, and even he feels more sexual attraction towards Miss. Torso (Georgine
Darcy) through the window than towards Lisa, who is in his arms or more explicit, offering herself in
his sofa. Lisa as Thorvald at the end, represents a menace and when he feels threatened, does not
hesitate to take his binoculars (or even the flash), as the only way to prevent danger.
To sum up, Hitchcock uses a film as Rear window to construct an allegory between reality and fiction.
The end of the film is ambiguous because although Jeff chooses real life, as he presents his back to the
window and to the outside, the clash between reality and fiction has a price, if you choose fiction
probably, you could lose to live in a real society, but if you choose reality, you could lose your
identity, as Jeff. So, inside this film, there is not only one crime, but also other metaphoric murdered:

Come Visit South Africa
South Africa, which is the southernmost country on the African continent, is bordered by the Atlantic
Ocean on its west coast and by the Indian Ocean on both south and east coasts. It is renowned for its
varied geography, extreme natural beauty, and cultural diversity. All of those attributes make it a
desirable destination for travelers. Its neighbors are Namibia in the northwest, Zimbabwe and
Botswana in the north, and Mozambique and Swaziland in the northeast. The kingdom of Lesotho
forms an enclave within the southeast part of South Africa, which occupies an area nearly three times
that of California.
To give a bit of background the San people were the first settlers in South Africa; the Khoikhoi and
Bantu speaking tribes followed. The Dutch East India Company landed the first European settlers on
the Cape of Good Hope in 1652, starting a colony that by the end of the 18th century numbered only
about 15,000. Known as Boers or Afrikaners, and speaking a Dutch dialect known as Afrikaans, the
settlers as early as 1795 tried to establish an independent republic. After occupying the Cape Colony
in that year, Britain took permanent possession in 1815 at the end of the Napoleonic Wars, bringing in
5,000 settlers.
Anglicization of government and the freeing of slaves in 1833 drove about 12,000 of what were called
Afrikaners to make the great trek north and east into African tribal territory, where they established the
republics of the Transvaal and the Orange Free State. The

She was a governess, genealogist, calisthenics enthusiast, and art teacher for most of her early life. In
1884, she married artist Charles Walter Stetson, and a year later they had a daughter named Katharine.
Charlotte s career took a drastic turn when she was diagnosed with depression and the well renowned
Doctor Mitchell suggested rest care . This treatment took a toll on her mental health, inspiring her to
write The Yellow Wallpaper . In 1888, she moved to Pasadena, California to write, and in that time,
she wrote thirty three short articles, twenty three poems, and ten child verses (Reuben). She and
Stetson divorced, and upon his marriage to her best friend in 1894, she forfeit Katherine to his

Essay Muscular Dystrophy
Muscular Dystrophy
Scientists have been struggling with the cause, treatment of, and cure for Muscular dystrophy since its
discovery in 1886, by Dr. Guillaume Duchenne. Muscular dystrophy is a hereditary disease, affecting
thousands of people every year, two thirds being children between the age of birth through
adolescents. Muscular dystrophy can also occur with no family history of the disease.
Muscular dystrophy is a degenerating disease, in which the skeletal muscles degenerate, lose their
strength, and cause increasing disability and deformity. Muscles attached to the bones through tendons
are responsible for movement in the human body, however, in muscular dystrophy the muscles
become progressively weak. As the muscle fibers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Boys begin to have difficulty sitting up and standing, weakness that progresses to muscles in the trunk
and shoulder, and later affecting the heart muscle. By the age of twenty years individuals affected with
Duchenne dystrophy die.
While there is no known cure, scientists are certain of the genetic make up that causes muscular
dystrophy, an inherited faulty gene. This gene can be inherited in one of four ways: X linked or sex
linked recessive, when a man with X Linked muscular dystrophy has children, Autosomal Recessive
Inheritance, and Autosomal Dominant Inheritance.
The mother, who is a carrier, inherits an X Linked or sex linked faulty gene. The result is producing an
affected son and or a daughter being a carrier. The second way is an affected male producing children,
particularly daughters. All daughters born to fathers with x linked muscular dystrophy will be carriers;
on the contrary their sons will be unaffected. Scientists link this to a genetic mutation in the gene,
appearing most often for the first time in a family.
Autosomal recessive inheritance is the third type known to cause muscular dystrophy, whereas both
parents are carriers of the defective gene. For this reason the offspring have a 25% chance of being
affected with both malformed genes, resulting in them being affected. The chance increases with
cousin marriages.

Fracking Of The United States
Alexi Taylor Monday, December 1, 2014 Dr. Gray Final Paper Fracking in the United States
Hydraulic fracking in the United States is a current environmental hazard that has to be addressed by
the American people and by the federal government. Fracking in America has opened up millions of
acres of lands that were once not economically viable to produce oil and gas. While the Bureau of land
Management has paved the way for hydraulic fracturing on public lands, there is a need for retaliation.
Fracking is a dirty method of extracting gases and oils at the price of numerous environmental, safety,
and health hazards. The environment is not a means of income when rather it is the capital for future
generations. Currently fracking is being disputed at state and federal levels. Farmers around the
country have been affected by this issue where fracking companies disturb the surrounding
environment to a point that nearby neighbors are affected so much where their drinking water
becomes contaminated and undrinkable. Who becomes responsible to support these everyday farmers
to contend against these well off oil fracking companies? In some cases these farmers don t have the
resources to win the legal disputes against these large fracking barons. Small family farms are
disappearing at a fast rate, and one more variable thrown in will make these small family farm
disappear that much faster. Even if the victims were to triumph in one court case what happens after

The Funerary Model Of A Pig Sty
Mingqi
For this first paper assignment I have chosen to write my essay on The Funerary Model of a Pig Sty.
This artwork takes place in Ancient China around c. 2nd century BCE. It was designed and used
within the Han Dynasty early in China s history. These clay models like the pig sty and other burial
goods had a hand in furthering the development of Chinas cultural heritage and beliefs. Within this
paper I will be discussing my chosen MIA artwork, works that are similar but different to this artwork,
and also how all three works, although all different, have the same purpose for what they have been
made for. Then finally touching on how the context of the piece can change based on its surroundings.
When one looks at the Funerary model of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(MIA) The roofs are separated into four sections on both rooftops. On the square latrine roofs there are
four triangles. While on the rectangular latrine there are two triangles and two trapezoids for the
rooftops shape. I find that this adds to the depth of the roof giving this piece great detail. One can see
this not just in the structure, but also in the details of the animals found in the pigsty model. For
starters when looking around there are seven animals total. They are a boar or male pig, a dog, a sow
who is feeding her three young piglets, and finally a bird. (MIA) In this particular model each animal
is found doing something known for what that animal does in real life. For example the boar is outside
the pen eating slop by himself out of a bowl. While the dog is above the boar on the walkway lazily
sleeping his day away in what could be the hot sun. As one moves along within the piece and looks
inside the pen one can see a sow that is really doing the most work in this model for she is feeding her
three young piglets right in the middle of the pen. This is okay because her and the piglets are the only
four in the pen causing a feeling of calm to the person looking at the work. Finally we move our eyes
up and see a nest with a bird in it. This bird seems to be stretching his wings or cleaning them minding
its own business. All these individual details make up one

Symptoms And Treatment Of Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple sclerosis, or MS, is a very common disease that affects more women than men; at a minimum
two to three times relevant in women (Harbo, 2013). Sadly, according to the National Multiple
Sclerosis Society, since 1975, there has not been a successful national study of the prevalence in the
United States. In order to improve reporting MS, the National MS Society established a method of
testing administrative databases. In turn, the Society reported that MS organization have estimated 2.3
million individuals are living with MS worldwide. Is it the most common disabling neurological
disease affecting young adults (Courtney, 2009). The greatest number of people who are identified
with the disease are between the ages of 20 to 50, even though it can still be found in younger children
and notable older adults. I personally find this statistic to be alarming. I am at risk for developing this
disease since I am in my mid 20s. It is important that I understand and am aware of the disease
because the actual cause of the disease in still a mystery. The environment and our genes could play a
role in contributing to the disease.
As discussed in class, from the Human Anatomy and Physiology 9th edition by Marieb and Hoehn
(2013), our bodies have billions of neurons, also called as nerve cells. Every neurons contains
something called dendrites, which looks like branches, and an axon joined by the axon hillock. The
dendrites are part the receives the information from another neuron

How Is Mary Lenox A Dynamic Character
Mary Lennox, from the book The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, is a very well
developed character that is the heroine the story. Mary Lenox touches and changes lives within the
story by her personality and her fiery spirit. Her personality is very intriguing as well as unusual for a
heroine to have. Mary, like most of the characters in the story, is a dynamic character. She is changing
as the story continues but while her attitude changes her personality does not. Though she grows into a
kind and understanding girl she remains very sassy and has a commanding edge to her. She can
always tell when someone is lying and isn t afraid to call them out on it. Even though she was a
dreadful, spoiled brat, in the beginning, she doesn t

Why Summer Shouldn T Be Extended Essay
Why the Summer Shouldn t be Shortened The summer for kids should not be shortened because kids
need a break, to experience real life events and not just school all day everyday. If kids are cooped up
in school all day without breaks and vacations then how will kids be prepared for college or the real
world when they have to make their own decisions. If they don t experience these things then students
will be ill prepared. Kids need a break because they learn so much new information and so many new
things that you can overload the brain (Should). Then kids won t be as focused because they have too
much information to remember and will not do well on tests. Kids also start to get bored at the end of
the year they are not as focused and not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As well as stress building up due to all the pressure to get good grades, students need a rest from all
the pressure and the stress. Students should get the 10 week rest compared to the 40 week school year.
Teacher Valerie Patterson says children need a break from school in the summer to develop healthy
habits and enjoy freedom (Wornoff). This being said from a teacher, it must be an indicator that the
summer should not be shortened or taken away. As students get older they possess harder and more
homework and class work, as well as stressing about good grades and college. Summer is a time for a
break and to settle down and not be so uptight. By having summer kids get to relax, have fun and not
be so stressed.
Summer should stay the same because it gives kids a time to settle down and relax. They do not have
to be so worried about good grades, homework, and turning things in on time. By shortening summer
that will make kids more stressed and not as focused in class because by the end of the year students
start to get bored and not as focused but with summer they can come back rejuvenated and ready to
learn

Persecuted Church
Horrifying evil shocks us into paralysis. That is the point of terrorism: not just to kill, but to
demoralize any opposition into hopelessness and inaction. As urgent as it is to document Christian
persecution in our time to shine a light on it, it s important too to understand that evil doesn t stand
unopposed. There are signs of hope: the heroic virtue of many Christians in the face of genocidal
attack; the help they have received from noble allies; and some signs that the tide may have turned and
things can get better.
Earlier this spring I heard Steve Wagner, the head of Solidarity with the Persecuted Church, give an
inspiring and informative presentation about the conditions of persecuted Christians in the hot spots of
Iraq, Syria, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Reasons Before I Learned In Poetry
Before I learned about poetry, I understand that poetic are rhyme, the words are soft, using the
metaphor, symbolic and also saying indirect way or some secret in. After I have learned about poetry, I
understand that just a meaningful conversation, a few actions or some experiences might be a poem.
We don t need to be rhyme, we don t need to be secret in or we don t need metaphor, symbolic too
much to be poetic. Because of the reasons, I define the word poetic with the simplest way that is every
words or situations can be poetic and it is just depend on the people who look at as a poetic or not. So,
it is not actually different with my daily activities. There are many reasons that we learned in the class.
The first reason is that I have learned about thinking, knowing, believing and feeling. In this concept,
according to ee crummings, I learned that we don t need to think, know or believe to be poetic but we
just need to feel only. I understand that our thoughts, knowing or believing make our feelings.
Moreover, we could not feel someone s feeling although we can think, know or believe. So, to feel in
the poem, we already know, believe or think. In my daily life, I always express my feeling ... Show

According to Tr. Joe, if we express our sensory that what we smell, what we taste, what we hear, what
we see and touch in details, it would become a poetic poem. For example, in the poem Misfits within
limits , I can see, hear and also taste. The speaker is phoning to his friend that I can hear and they are
going to the SONY HD Revolution Exhibition that I can see and they drink cold drink that I can taste.
Likely, in my daily life, I can understand by seeing with my eyes, by hearing the sounds, by tasting the
taste or by smelling with my nose or something that actually happen to me. According to this reasons,
it is similarities with my daily activities

Examples Of Genre Analysis
Literature review
Genre analysis, literally is to analyze a piece of genre which is a staged, goal oriented, purposeful
activity in which speakers/writers engaged to express a certain meaning (Martin,1984,p.25). In other
words, people use language in various occasions, for some certain purposes, perceived to be a
meaningful and coherent whole which focus on communicative function: language in action or
language in use , can be called as a type of text or discourse. While genre analysis is treated as
discourse analysis more like a text analysis. Text is a record of communicative event while discourse

Dear Mr. Smith,
Upon investigation in to the claim of constructive discharge under the Title VII Civil Rights Act of
1964 my research found this claim to be irrelevant and unjustified. A constructive discharge happens
when an employee is legally justified in claiming that he/she was forced to resign because the
employer has made working conditions intolerable.
In our situation a complaint was never filed with the company letting us know the employee was
unhappy or giving us the opportunity to respond to the situation. Therefore the company was unaware
of creating an intolerable working condition for that employee and we did not intentionally do it. The
company experienced growth so the production schedule changed for all employees. The ... Show

We would need to review and make sure that all the appropriate measures are being taken in a timely
manner if someone complains about their working environment. Specific steps and procedures need to
be followed to protect our company and our employees. In Pennsylvania State Police v. Suders (2004)
the Supreme Court found that in order to establish constructive discharge a plaintiff must show that
the environment was so intolerable that resigning was the only option. But the court also found that
the plaintiff failed to avail herself of the internal reporting procedures as she resigned two days after
mentioning harassment to an official. The case supports our position of not guilty because the
employee who is filing charges against us did not follow the company s internal reporting procedures.
This would have allowed us to meet with the employee to see if we could come to an agreeable
solution. Internal reporting procedures are there to protect everyone involved.
My final recommendation would be to make a statement to the employee filing charges against us to
inform them know that we are aware of the Code of Federal Regulations (Guidelines on
discrimination because of religion, 2009) and that we are willing to work with the individual to find a
solution. If the employee dropped the charges and came back to work for us then there are a number of
accommodations we would suggest such as

Role Of Self Disclosure In Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
Role of self disclosure in cognitive behaviour therapy
Feminist therapists purposefully self disclose their opinions and feelings about such emotionally and
politically divisive issues as sexual orientation and nonmonogamous relationships so that clients can
decide whether the psychologist will provide unprejudiced support if these issues arise.
In cognitive behaviour therapy, where the importance is placed on between session changes, a rational
intervention that accelerates such changes can be freely integrated into treatment. In functional
analytic psychotherapy, psychologists are encouraged to self disclose the personal impact that clients
make on them. By responding to the client s ineffective and effective behaviours within the session,
the psychologist or therapist encourages the client s use of adaptive interpersonal behaviours and
rejects behaviours that are problematic. Drives of therapeutic self disclosure in cognitive behaviour
therapy may contain providing feedback on the interpersonal impact made by the client, enhancing
positive expectations and motivation, strengthening the therapeutic bond, normalising the client s
reaction, reducing the client s fears, and modelling an effective way of functioning (Burckell et al
2003).
Self disclosure of sexual orientation
Due to the homophobic culture, to which homosexual individuals are exposed throughout their lives in
belonging to a sexual minority, there is the probability of them suffering from the

  • 2. Taking a Look at the Manhattan Project Although the Manhattan project was a bomb it was the psychological effects of the two bomb droppings that did more damage than the actual destruction caused. The projected was started through United States concern that the Germans were developing a similar weapon. It was kept a well guarded secret and when it was used for the first time on a city caused a horrible shock. The decision to use the bomb was not made lightly and had many different reasons behind it. It was made especially hard after seeing the actual destruction it could cause because unveiling the technology would lead to others wanting to replicate it. In the end though it was used on Japan and though it caused less damage than previous air raids it lead to their surrender. While nuclear fission was believed to be possible in Germany since 1938 it was not put into actionin the United States until 1943. That year Allied scientists created a plan to use the fission to build an atomic bomb before the Germans could. In early 1939 word spread like wildfire that Germany had learned hot to split an atom. The fears this struck in the scientific community encouraged scientist, like Albert Einstein, who fled Nazi persecution, and Enrico Fermi, who escaped Fascist Italy, to approach the President. They wanted to express the dangers of the technology and to urge him to start an atomic research program in the United States. Fermi decided to travel to Washington only to be faced with the fact that no one else felt the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Emergency Plan Essay 8. Outline of emergency plans The UK has two separate plans regarding influenza; the first is their pandemic plan; the second is their annual influenza plan for seasonal influenza. The focus of each plan is broadly similar, and it is to mitigate the impact of any influenza outbreak, epidemic or pandemic by: adequate surveillance and detection of cases; prevention of infection using vaccination; treatment of high risk cases with antivirals; and non pharmaceutical control of transmission by recommending hand and respiratory hygiene, self isolation and limited use of face masks for health and social care workers. The differences in the plans lie mainly with vaccination and the scope of the plans regarding control of transmission (DOH, 2011; Public ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Local health authorities are responsible for delivery of healthcare aspects of the plan, including vaccination and antiviral treatment, as well as local surveillance (DOH, 2011). However, the impact of a pandemic will potentially be felt across every sector of society and thus the pandemic plans extend to recommendations for all business and public sectors, including essential services such as water/sewage, energy, education, food supplies and transport. They also extend to the media as they have a role in disseminating information, and to recommendations for Ministry of Defence (MOD) involvement to provide assistance if civil capabilities are exceeded (DOH, 2011). Part 2 of the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 allows for emergency powers to be established in extreme situations and The Public Health (Control of Disease) Act 1984 extends powers to the level of the individual allowing restrictions to be imposed on an individual provided they are in the best interests of public health (DOH, ... • 4. Antigone By Sophocles Antigone In Sophocles, Antigone begins with the stages of grief as Antigone mourns the loss of her two brothers, Polyneikes and Eteokles, who die simultaneously in face to face combat in Thebes. Eteokles dies with honor fighting for the Thebesians and is honored with rituals and a proper burial. The body of Polyneikes, who attempted to burn the city of Thebes, is left for the dogs and birds to savage. Thesbesian s law forbids anyone giving a traitor, like Polyneikes, a proper burial, for that itself is a crime punishable by death. Antigone is angered that Polyneikes is not going to receive a proper burial and is determined that she must honor him even if it means the end of her life. Antigone alone attempts to bury her brother, but is captured and imprisoned, at which point she decides to form a noose around her neck and end her life. Sophocles leaves the reader to question whether Antigone s suicide is an act of heroism, a stand for the citizens of Thebes, or a selfish way of coping with personal trauma. Antigone sought assistance in burying her brother from her only family member alive, her sister, Ismene, who tries to reason with her. Ismene proclaims, Remember, we re women. How can we fight men? They re stronger (Sophocles 749). The physical statures of neither Polyneikes nor Antigone were not ever mentioned, but in general men typically weigh more and have a larger build than women. We have to assume that she doesn t want to elicit help from others because the risk of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Imagery In Blood Meridian McCarthy s descriptions of the setting in Chapter four of his fifth published book, Blood Meridian or The Evening Redness in the West (McCarthy, 1985), published in 1985, and sets a visual imagery for the reader to experience the book as one of the characters. Chapter four begins with the charters heading into the desert with minimal food and supplies. Throughout the trip many men fall ill and pass away along with their horses. The characters encounter numerous obstacles with wolves and the desert sand. The chapter ends with most of the characters being slaughtered by several Comanche warriors leaving only a few alive, one of them being the Kid. Blood Meridian is a novel that challenges the myth of the western American landscape being this Promised Land for those heroic men who were brave enough to dare to concur it. By McCarthy describing the landscape as less than attractive, the empty villages, dry dessert and numerous dead bodies found. Death is seen as the end of life, the end of what was once beautiful and pure. In the book, Blood Meridian, death can be seen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the novel many animal sounds are described to the reader such as the prairie wolves howling (McCarthy 44), and the snarling of flies (McCarthy 45). There are animals who do not make sounds but are present and seen by the characters also such as the wild pigs and numerous birds (McCarthy 44). The animals presence reminds the reader that the landscape is not vacant and there are other signs of life out there. In Blood Meridian the characters appear to be insignificant but in relation to the enormous open landscape they move through. The lack of life and plantation make it impossible to hide and seek shelter, which makes the characters exposed. The huge sky, with the vital sun and empty dessert landscape depicts the land as an enormous space full of emptiness, a place beyond civilization where there is no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During Lenin s rule he made decisions that really changed the nation. However, Lenin not only played an important rule in Russian history but in universal history as well. He has been known as the greatest revolutionary leader behind Karl Marx, the one who opened up everyone s eyes to communism (Vladimir Lenin Biography). Vladimir Ilich Ulyanov was Lenin s birth name. He took on the last name Lenin when he was working under the table with his government party. Lenin was born in Simbirsk, Russia, on April 22, 1870. Simbirsk was renamed Ulyanovsk in his honor. • 7. Historical Significance of Eleanor Rigby Overview A song by Beatles, Eleanor Rigby was released simultaneously on the album Revolver in the year 1966 as well as on a 45 rpm single. Primarily, the song was written by Paul McCartney and was dedicated to Lennon McCartney (Miles, 1997). George Martin did a great job at making a string quartet arrangement. The striking lyrics about loneliness along with the arrangement transformed the kind of songs from what were mostly pop oriented to the kind that were studio based. There is no second opinion about the fact that this song made a dent in the conventions of the popular music; both in terms of lyrics and music (Campbell and Bondy, 2008). Pertaining to the fates and concerns of the elderly that are mostly neglected, Richie Unterberger has said that this is one of the main reasons why Beatles have been able to catch the attention of people who are beyond the traditional rock audience (Unterberger, 2013). Historical Significance This song also has a historical connotation since there is a gravestone by the name of Eleanor Rigby in St. Peter s Churchyard that is situated in Woolton, United Kingdom. It should be noted that Woolton is a suburb of the city of Liverpool and this is where Lennon and McCartney first met during a fete at St. Peter s Church. According to the gravestone that bears the name of Eleanor, she died at the age of 44 in the year 1939. Nonetheless, Eleanor is not the kind of lonely people that the Beatles have stressed upon in their song as she was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. An Analysis of Faulkner s Barn Burning and Shingles for... An Analysis of Faulkner s Barn Burning and Shingles for the Lord In Barn Burning, Faulkner s usual style of long sentences and detailed descriptions continues. Although the run on sentences are not quite as complicated or abundant as those of the other Faulkner works we have read, I still found myself wondering to some extent what the story was really about. Was it just about a bitter man s spitefulness toward Colonel de Spain as a result of his jealousy of the colonel s status? Or was there more to it? I also was left wondering why Faulkner did not refer to Sarty by name most of the time, but rather as the boy. Did he want the reader to be less identified with Sarty even though he was the narrator? Did he want his reader to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Faulkner uses he said to connotate the dialogue, but since there are two he characters in this particular case, it is difficult to figure out which one Faulkner is referring to. On a different note, I did notice that Faulkner once again placed several references and emphasis on eyes, especially the father s. On page 16, the narrator says the gray eyes glinted coldly in reference to the father s eyes. The father s cold eyes are again described on page 19. The reference to people s eyes remingded me of descriptions of Dilsey s eyes from The Sound and the Fury and Charlotte s eyes from The Wild Palms. I thought it was interesting to see the recurrence of emphasis on the character s eyes. Shingles for the Lord much easier to read than even Barn Burning. The story was very straight foward and simplified, unlike much of Faulkner s other work we have read. I found myself reading through it very quickly without having to stop to reread something. The language was easy to understand, the characters were clearly identified, and there was not an abundance of run on sentences. I found Pap to be a quite intriguing character. It was strange that every action he took was motivated by spite and his contempt for the other characters, much like the father from Barn Burning. The two men almost sound as though they could be the same character. The story is told from the familiar first person viewpoint of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Essay On Cryptosporidium Parvum Cryptosporidium Parvum: Transmission and Infection Cryptosporidium parvum is a protozoan intestinal parasite causing a short term enteric illness in individuals with functioning immune systems, and can cause a potentially fatal infection in immunosuppressed individuals. Because of C. parvum s resistance to many of the procedures used to process drinking water and food, and the parasite s extremely high fecundity, the potential for a large scale outbreak is very high. In fact, C. parvum was responsible for an outbreak in Milwaukee in 1993 when an estimated 403,000 people became ill. This was the largest waterborne outbreak of disease in United States history. This paper will cover some aspects of C. parvum s life cycle, human sickness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The infective dose may be as little as one oocyst, and severe diarrhea can occur, causing the individual to pass up to 20 liters of fluid in one 24 hour period (Donnelly amp; Stentiford, 1997). This inevitably leads to death. Transmission of the parasite can occur in several different ways. Direct transmission can occur by handling infected animal or human feces. One quarter of reported direct transmission infections occurred by direct contact with feces, while the rest were reported to have happened by person to person contact (Donnelly amp; Stentiford, 1997). Person to person transmission can occur through poor hygiene habits or by handling human waste. Daycares and nursing homes are at a high risk for person to person transmission because of the high risk of handling infected feces. Family outbreaks are common, as are outbreaks among children at nurseries (Donnelly amp; Stentiford, 1997). Indirect transmission by the water or foodborne route is one of the most common ways C. parvum is spread. Because of the oocyst s resistance to chlorination, several outbreaks have been caused by waterborne transmission. In one study (Carpenter et al.), oocysts were removed from the feces of an experimentally infected calf, cleaned of fecal matter, and placed into different amounts of chlorinated water at different temperatures. Although this experiment had been performed before, this was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I struggle to draw the line between future goals and charitable commitments because they are so similar in my plans for the future. My mission is to develop healthy, driven, and independent communities. Through my active pursuit of a career in nursing, I am acquiring the tools necessary to promote community and public health. Because of my identity in God as a Christian, I am equipped to encourage spiritual health through Christian love and moral uprightness. Over the last six months, I have been involved in a church based community development in Rockaway Beach, a town in an extreme economic slump. Through my experience serving in this community, I have seen firsthand the multitude of preventable health issues linked to economic and spiritual poverty. • 11. Dichotomy In Rear Window Alfred Hitchcock once defined his film Rear Window (Hitchcock, 1954), as the story of a man who cannot move and looks through a window, about what he sees and how he reacts to it (Truffaut, 1986). In addition, Hitchcock constructs the character of the protagonist of the film, Jeff (James Steward), not only by using cinematographic devices to show how Jeff interprets what he sees and his own life, but also stabilising a dichotomy between what he looks at and what he lives. At the beginning of the film, a camera movement reveals Jeff´s profession and why he is immobilized in a wheel chair. He is a photographer, interested in looking at other´s lives; consequently, he could be described as a voyeur. Across a very limited space the courtyard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For those reasons, even when he is in a sweet moment with Lisa in his arms, he prefers looking at the outside of his apartment, and even he feels more sexual attraction towards Miss. Lisa as Thorvald at the end, represents a menace and when he feels threatened, does not hesitate to take his binoculars (or even the flash), as the only way to prevent danger. To sum up, Hitchcock uses a film as Rear window to construct an allegory between reality and fiction. The end of the film is ambiguous because although Jeff chooses real life, as he presents his back to the window and to the outside, the clash between reality and fiction has a price, if you choose fiction probably, you could lose to live in a real society, but if you choose reality, you could lose your identity, as Jeff. So, inside this film, there is not only one crime, but also other metaphoric murdered: Jeff, who has renounced to his fantasies to adapt himself in a conformed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Come Visit South Africa South Africa, which is the southernmost country on the African continent, is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on its west coast and by the Indian Ocean on both south and east coasts. It is renowned for its varied geography, extreme natural beauty, and cultural diversity. All of those attributes make it a desirable destination for travelers. Its neighbors are Namibia in the northwest, Zimbabwe and Botswana in the north, and Mozambique and Swaziland in the northeast. The kingdom of Lesotho forms an enclave within the southeast part of South Africa, which occupies an area nearly three times that of California. To give a bit of background the San people were the first settlers in South Africa; the Khoikhoi and Bantu speaking tribes followed. The Dutch East India Company landed the first European settlers on the Cape of Good Hope in 1652, starting a colony that by the end of the 18th century numbered only about 15,000. Known as Boers or Afrikaners, and speaking a Dutch dialect known as Afrikaans, the settlers as early as 1795 tried to establish an independent republic. After occupying the Cape Colony in that year, Britain took permanent possession in 1815 at the end of the Napoleonic Wars, bringing in 5,000 settlers. Anglicization of government and the freeing of slaves in 1833 drove about 12,000 of what were called Afrikaners to make the great trek north and east into African tribal territory, where they established the republics of the Transvaal and the Orange Free State. Muscular dystrophy can also occur with no family history of the disease. By the age of twenty years individuals affected with Duchenne dystrophy die. While there is no known cure, scientists are certain of the genetic make up that causes muscular dystrophy, an inherited faulty gene. This gene can be inherited in one of four ways: X linked or sex linked recessive, when a man with X Linked muscular dystrophy has children, Autosomal Recessive Inheritance, and Autosomal Dominant Inheritance. The mother, who is a carrier, inherits an X Linked or sex linked faulty gene. The result is producing an affected son and or a daughter being a carrier. The second way is an affected male producing children, particularly daughters. All daughters born to fathers with x linked muscular dystrophy will be carriers; on the contrary their sons will be unaffected. Scientists link this to a genetic mutation in the gene, appearing most often for the first time in a family. Autosomal recessive inheritance is the third type known to cause muscular dystrophy, whereas both parents are carriers of the defective gene. For this reason the offspring have a 25% chance of being affected with both malformed genes, resulting in them being affected. The chance increases with cousin marriages. The ... Fracking Of The United States Alexi Taylor Monday, December 1, 2014 Dr. Gray Final Paper Fracking in the United States Hydraulic fracking in the United States is a current environmental hazard that has to be addressed by the American people and by the federal government. Fracking in America has opened up millions of acres of lands that were once not economically viable to produce oil and gas. While the Bureau of land Management has paved the way for hydraulic fracturing on public lands, there is a need for retaliation. Fracking is a dirty method of extracting gases and oils at the price of numerous environmental, safety, and health hazards. The environment is not a means of income when rather it is the capital for future generations. Currently fracking is being disputed at state and federal levels. Farmers around the country have been affected by this issue where fracking companies disturb the surrounding environment to a point that nearby neighbors are affected so much where their drinking water becomes contaminated and undrinkable. Who becomes responsible to support these everyday farmers to contend against these well off oil fracking companies? In some cases these farmers don t have the resources to win the legal disputes against these large fracking barons. While on the rectangular latrine there are two triangles and two trapezoids for the rooftops shape. I find that this adds to the depth of the roof giving this piece great detail. One can see this not just in the structure, but also in the details of the animals found in the pigsty model. For starters when looking around there are seven animals total. They are a boar or male pig, a dog, a sow who is feeding her three young piglets, and finally a bird. While the dog is above the boar on the walkway lazily sleeping his day away in what could be the hot sun. As one moves along within the piece and looks inside the pen one can see a sow that is really doing the most work in this model for she is feeding her three young piglets right in the middle of the pen. This is okay because her and the piglets are the only four in the pen causing a feeling of calm to the person looking at the work. Finally we move our eyes up and see a nest with a bird in it. Role Of Self Disclosure In Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Role of self disclosure in cognitive behaviour therapy Feminist therapists purposefully self disclose their opinions and feelings about such emotionally and politically divisive issues as sexual orientation and nonmonogamous relationships so that clients can decide whether the psychologist will provide unprejudiced support if these issues arise. In cognitive behaviour therapy, where the importance is placed on between session changes, a rational intervention that accelerates such changes can be freely integrated into treatment. In functional analytic psychotherapy, psychologists are encouraged to self disclose the personal impact that clients make on them. By responding to the client s ineffective and effective behaviours within the session, the psychologist or therapist encourages the client s use of adaptive interpersonal behaviours and rejects behaviours that are problematic. Drives of therapeutic self disclosure in cognitive behaviour therapy may contain providing feedback on the interpersonal impact made by the client, enhancing positive expectations and motivation, strengthening the therapeutic bond, normalising the client s reaction, reducing the client s fears, and modelling an effective way of functioning (Burckell et al 2003).
