How Far Do You Agree That the Hundred Flowers Campaign Was...
How far do you agree that the Hundred Flowers campaign was a trick designed by Mao to trap his
opponents?
The Hundred Flowers Campaign began in 1957 when Mao Zedong declared in a speech, Let a
hundred schools of thought contend, effectively encouraging criticism from members of the Chinese
Communist Party. After members began pointing out where the party had made mistakes, however,
Mao suddenly reversed this new policy and began the Anti Rightist Movement, condemning the critics
whose opinions he had just previously invited. Was the Hundred Flowers Campaign a trick designed
by Mao to trap his opponents?
Mao reversed his policies, which people may use as proof that the campaign was a trick. Mao first

Mao s retaliation was severe, precise, and on an enormously large scale. He was obviously poised to
attack, and this hints that the Hundred Flowers Campaign was merely a wily method of enticing Mao s
prey.
There is, on the other hand, much evidence to support that the campaign was a genuine attempt at
reform. In his Contradictions speech, given to leading party workers in early 1957, Mao complained
of the oppressive way some party officials were applying policies and hinted that it was time to begin
permitting intellectuals to voice their opinions. Furthermore, in 1956, he had been tolerant of Hu Feng,
a writer who challenged the idea that all artistic merit should be judged based on Marxist Leninist
values, even as other CCP leaders viciously censured him. These two examples show that Mao,
although previously disdainful of intellectuals, may have begun to see their importance, and thus may
have been honestly inviting their criticism when the Hundred Flowers Campaign began.
In addition, the launching of the Hundred Flowers Campaign may have been triggered by events in
other communist states rather than a desire to trick party opponents. In 1956, Soviet Union leader
Nikita Khrushchev launched an attack on the previous leader Joseph Stalin, dead now for three years,
and his cult of personality, Mao probably saw how his own popularity adulating portraits of him were

Summary Of Retreat Of The Elephants
Evan Zabriski 4/3/14 Professor Wu Paper #11 Word Count: 1,222 The Retreat of the Elephants The
Retreat of the Elephants is a book in which the author Mark Elvin presents two large issues: How has
the Chinese culture changed in the past four thousand years? And, in what ways did the distinctive
characteristics of this ancient civilization effect the process of change? Elvin separates his study into
three sections. The first section is Patterns in which he illustrates the environmental history of China,
describing some of the changes the country went through environmentally and economically. The
author also explains the reasoning behind the title of the book. Four thousand years ago, there were
elephants in the area that was later to become Beijing (located in the Northeast) as well as in most of
the rest of what was later to be China. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Use Of Allegory In Dante Inferno
In Dante Alighieri The Divine Comedy, Dante uses powerful imagery and goes into immense detail on
a journey to the afterlife. Dante uses a lot of well written imagery to make his story seem more
relatable and real, to scare his readers into believing that you need only turn to God for the forgiveness
of sin. At the beginning of the story, Dante is walking in the woods in darkness feeling sad and not
right with God, after this Dante see a mountain and tries to go up but he is blocked by three beasts
which represent sin. Most everything in this story is an allegory, he means two things, literal and
figurative meaning. I came to a place stripped bare of every light and roaring on naked dark like seas
wracked by a war of winds (Canto 5 inferno), this when Dante goes into the second circle of hell and
watches as the lustful are swirl around in this never ending storm of lust. Dante is using this point of
view to try and give a realistic vibe to the readers. He talks to Francesca and Paolo two lovers who
were murdered after found having affair against Francesca husband Giovanni Malatesta. After talking
to them Dante is starting to get a sense of how real his journey is, he is feeling overwhelmed Dante
falls to the ground and pass is out. And while one spirit Francesca said these words to me, the other
Paolo wept, so that, because of pity, I fainted, as if I had met my death. And then I fell as a dead body
falls. (139 142) O reader, do not ask me how I

Strong National Museum Case Study
The Strong National Museum of Play was originally founded in 1968 as the Margret Woodbury Strong
Museum of Fascination. The museum was created due to the will of Margret Strong and the bulk of
the collection came from her estate. Toys and dolls made up the largest part of the collection although
it contained a range of objects from buttons to home furnishings. The majority of the collection was
also mass produced so initially the museum used them to examine ways in which industrialization
changed everyday life. ...this focus evolved into an examination of the consequences of progress, the
rise of the middle class, and expressions of identity. This was a complete departure from the
interpretative themes of children, play, imagination, and fun that the dolls and toys evoked. Over time
the Strong Museum began to increase family programming and install more interactive, child focused
exhibits. Eventually, this led to the institution s rebranding as the Strong National Museum of Play in
the late 2000 s as well as its creation of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Regarding this dichotomy, my thesis questions will include: When is it appropriate for a museum to
change its mission? Does success in a museum s current field mean that a museum should not change
its mission? Should institutional history prevent a museum from major change? Does a museum have
an obligation to serve a wider community over a smaller interest group? How should new research and
changing cultural norms affect a museum and its mission? Due to the fact that the Strong Museum s
new mission is seen as a return to the original ideals of Margret Strong, my research paper will also
explore these questions: Should the interests of a museum s founder play a role in shaping its mission?
How, if at all, should donated collections guide the mission of an

Business recovery team
The business recovery team initially established the critical success factors. These were broken down
into short, medium and long term. No single business recovery plan exists for this type of incident as
the entire incident was complex with a large number of stakeholders involved. The main business
continuity plans were utilised for short term loss of the terminal building and loss of road
infrastructure. The latter was of particular use as traffic was initially banned from the forecourt area of
the airport. In order to get a limited operation up and running, it was important to build on our well
established relationship with Strathclyde Police. The whole terminal forecourt area was clearly being
treated as a crime scene which restricted movement in and around the area and, therefore, stopped the
business recovery team getting access to the building. Through consultation and flexible working, the
police were able to concentrate on the incident area which gave us access to the terminal building, in
the first instance through the adjoining multi storey car park, and then through the ground floor doors.
On getting initial access, we were able to utilise T2 (a separate overflow check in area). This meant we
were able to work ahead of the police to be operationally ready when the area was handed over.

Summary Of The Working Poor
Michael James Ms. Phelps Pols 210 02 The Working Poor Essay The Working Poor is a story of hard
times in our lives, that can vary in times of the poor struggles, middle class struggles, and just overall
all struggles of everyday people whom have difficult times in their lives. In this reading we found
there were difficult things happening to people in this book in different chapters and nothing really
had a positive note from what the basis of the story had led us to believe. There is some of this story
where its chapter talks about money and how it is breaking down people s lives simply with all aspects
that are fairly difficult with money; such as income tax as its goes into how the people cannot do their
tax returns or pay their taxes, people being scammed out their money, little to no trust in banks, and it
even mentions certain tax company in its efforts to stress the difficulties faced. Another speaks on
some people life stories Ms. Christine, Ms. Debra Hall, and Ms. Caroline Payne. These women faced
many difficulties that it speaks about and it almost becomes a consideration to be a biography in the
story in this chapter really. Later in the chapters it brings on some hardships on the men in the story
where some of these men make difficult decisions and they are not good to be honest they bring
hardship to their families to the next level because these are times where men should have been
considered the workers while they had a wife whom did house work and natured the

An Offering From The East Case Study
An Offering from the West Initial Resistance
Referendum after referendum, suffrage swiftly swooped across the west, emancipation and equality a
dream less far flung in the minds of Canadians. The term and notion, suffrage, is limited to the right to
vote, but for women it represented more, a catalyst for change. However, even before equal pay
legislation, employment rights, among other liberties men didn t share, the right to vote was brought
upon by a myriad of various factors that were necessary to overcome the many roadblocks. Generally
speaking, eastern provinces were reluctant to revise voting legislation to be inclusive of women,
despite the suffrage in the east starting long before their western equivalents had even ... Show more

French Canadians in the east, who had revoked female voting rights in the 1840 s, saw suffrage as a
threat against their culture. As a consequence, it took years, decades for these ideals to alter the ink on
voting legislation, even in municipalities, longer still for state/federal votes, even longer still for
women of ethnic minorities to be included.
The Prairies Isolationism on the West Coast Manitoba entered the confederation in 1870, initially only
white men, of whom were at least 21 years old were permitted to vote. 2 years later, the province
participated in their first general election, in which the state made it explicit that women weren t
qualified to vote, in this general election and in all other electoral divisions. The Icelandic community,
fought for suffrage in Manitoba, an expected pursuit considering Icelandic women had already
attained voting rights in their homeland. They pushed for more progressive, and female inclusive,
legislation; all while utilising the free press to expand their movement. The predominant weight
backing suffrage was the agricultural movement and settlements, the details of which were mentioned
prior in the previous paragraph, women were drawn in via promises of equality. Although, the role of
the Western s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) in its advocacy for suffrage, should be duly noted

threats in the industry s competitive environment. The research has shown that its main competitors
Walmart, Target, and Amazon are functioning successfully in the industry while Toys R Us heads for

established historic customer base that will respond to its stores because of their loyalty to the
company. The company can do this by opening new product lines. They can focus on obtaining
products that are high in demand by their competitors. They can use their already established company

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Rational Choice Theory
Early theories on criminality presume criminal offenders as rational individuals and criminal acts are
based on rational decisions. The theory defined is the Rational Choice Theory. An economic principle
that assumes that individuals always make prudent and logical decisions that provide them with the
greatest benefit or satisfaction and that are in their highest self interest. Most mainstream economic
assumptions and theories are based on rational choice theory. It has long appeared to many people that
economics is the most successful of the social sciences. It has assumed that people are motivated by
money and by the possibility of making a profit, and this has allowed it to construct formal, and often
predictive, models of human behavior. This apparent success has led many other social scientists to

How Does Sowat Use Personification In Never Cry Wolf
Wolves are a vital part of animal s well being. In the book Never Cry Wolf by Farley Mowat, Mowat
goes to study wolves in the middle of barren Canada. In Canada he meets an Eskimo named Mike and
he stays in his cabin while he finds a wolf den to study. He studies how pups grow up and how the
wolves hunt, also their diet. He finds out how the caribou are disappearing, and estimates how many
are killed in a certain amount of time. Along with many other things Mowat uses Logos with
Personification and Characterization to explain how the wolves are not savage killers. Mowat uses
Personification to prove wolves are not savage killers. In the book Never Cry Wolf when Mowat is
alone studying the wolves he begins to give them names and personalities. I can only attribute to the
fact that George s sense of humor, which was well developed, led him to accept the affair as a crude
practical joke (110). Mowat had set some mouse traps to catch mice to study and dissect, but the wolf
he called George walked through them and ran home. George understood it as a joke. George and
Angeline also played jokes on Uncle Albert which is the 3rd wolf. The fact that all of the wolves play

Personal Narrative- Books Have Greatly Impacted my Life...
I wasn t interested in books when I was very young, except for an interest in comic books. Maybe that
s because I was never really read to consistently. My mother claims to have read to me some when I
was younger, but I don t remember it. Giving birth to five kids in seven years, and having one die at
three days old, sort of cut into her time for entertaining me with thrilling renditions of The Cat in the
Hat. I had to entertain myself with what I could find, and I picked up some basic reading skills from
some of the kid s shows on television in the sixties. When I hit that magical age of six and went to
elementary school, I was introduced to the first real books I can remember. There I learned about the

a poodle skirt and matching sweater, hanging out at the malt shoppe with Archie and Betty and all of
the gang. The words there told me little. I didn t really care what they were actually talking about from
frame to frame. The pictures were my inspiration simply to be there with the characters, and that was
the fun of it for me. About the only thing I actually remember reading for fun during my elementary
years was Mad Magazine, because reading much of anything was just too much like school to me.
Reading for school was something I had to do whether I wanted to or not, and usually I didn t want to.
Part of the reason I didn t enjoy my early years in school was that I was an average student who made
terrible marks in penmanship, something they graded students on back then as if fine motor skills, or
more to the point the lack of them were a sign of your place on the scale between true intelligence and
dull existence. By the second grade I consistently made D s on my report card in handwriting, which
prompted my mother, who had beautiful penmanship, to force me to sit for hours practicing my letters.

since 1961. That is coincidentally the same year that the Wire Act was implemented. Let s consider a
remark from Obama s State of the Union address in 2015. He said, When what you re doing doesn t
work for 50 years, it s time to try something new. Obama s comments were related to the Cuban trade
embargo, not the Wire Act, but his line of thinking is appropriate for the Wire Act as well. Oddly
enough, those two policies have both failed for over a half century and are similarly dominated by
special interest politics. Most Americans have strongly agreed with opening up trade with Cuba for
many years, but that hasn t happened because Florida is a valuable swing state with a large voting bloc
of Cuban Americans who have adamantly supported the

way to stop animal abuse. The FBI is conducting an investigation to find out a way to serve justice to
those that abuse animals. Animal abuse has been going on for a very long time now and it need to

behaviors than those who don t abuse animals. Research shows that between 18 and 48 percent of

My Experience At A Restaurant
My experience at Borgne restaurant In life there are many experiences, good and bad. Good
experiences being those that we vaguely remember and usually forgot as time goes by. And bad
experiences being those that we remember and learn from; which impact and play a very important
role in the life of every chef. No kitchen is perfect, every kitchen is different. It takes time for you to
find the perfect kitchen and get used to the environment. Borgne was one of those bad experiences that
I will never forget. The first day I walked into Borgne, Chef David gave me the usual tour of the
kitchen and the typical introduction to the cooks and the front staff. When I introduced myself as
being a CIA student, one of the chefs laughed and said ha no CIA student ever makes it in this kitchen
. I responded trying to defend the CIA s reputation by saying I m not one of those CIA students. And
that s how it all began. After the group meeting, I was given my black chef coat (which I hate because
you can see everything on them) and nothing else. I was then sent home and told to be ready for the
next day. I spent the entire day thinking about what chef said to me and what it meant. What did they
do wrong, and what I can do to be better than them. Were they trying to intimidate me or were they
just playing around. This question was brought up multiple times throughout my experience. Next
morning I woke up 3 hours early to figure out the bus system. I was late that day due to confusion,

Ralph Waldo Emerson s By The Mountain
By the Mountain
All I have seen teaches me to trust the Creator for all I have not seen Ralph Waldo Emerson
My residence sinks demurely into the margin of Mt. Julius. The mountain stands gallantly but the
concealed core is swept with solitude and mystery. A thick mist circles the mountain, casting a
phantom like shadow onto the bustling city below. It is a world away from life up here on the
mountainside, so much so I feel as though I am a stranger, a witness to the activity that continues
miles below my feet.
I dwell alone in my abode as it has been the norm for twenty years my whole existence. I am likely to

But alas, I remain on a chilling mountain, seen but at the same time ignored by all who reside beneath.
I gazed across the horizon, polluted with grey towers and vibrant lights, making no match to the sky
infused with honeyed ripples.
I long to explore those ruins but have been unable to. My mindset is restraining me tightly, its arms
curled around my waist. Even though I know it is a natural human instinct to fear for the unknown, my
conscience yearns for freedom.
The next day, I had broken away from the chains and took a step out onto the bare land as the glowing
sun bloomed from the villages. I was one step closer to alleviating the burden that lingered and
dominated my headspace. Taking hesitant steps towards the labyrinthine path, I inhaled the crisp air
and let it rest on my lips as I ambled through the towering bushes, the city in sight.
Billboards radiated dazzling light all around and clattering vehicles buzzed about crumbling roads that
stretched in all directions. It felt soulless and pathetic. Had they never felt the wind streaming
outwards through their hair? They never will, it is dark and dusty in these places. Had they ever had
the pleasure of breathing a clean breeze? Of course not, my lungs were wheezing and

His unique mind is what separates him from all other charters in this short story. Moreover, a key
characteristic that makes Holmes a great detective is the power of deduction. Holmes has
straightforward and logical principles, he believes that whats observed will lead to what is indicated.
He uses this trait when speaking to his friend, Watson. One evening Watson visits Holmes, while he
was there Holmes made several observations based on his appearance. By observing that, on the inside

been caused by someone who has very carelessly scraped around the edges of the sole in order to

Trayvon Martin s Struggle In The US
I was fourteen when I first became aware of black struggles, particularly in the United States. An
innocent, 17 year old Trayvon Martin was fatally shot by neighborhood watch volunteer George
Zimmerman. Martin was shot plainly because he was Black and yet, Zimmerman walked away a free
man on the grounds of self defense. His death had ignited something in me. A teenage boy was
murdered because an ignorant, racist and self glorified man had garnered the sympathy of the justice
system. Truthfully, this was only a nudge to the direction. As sad it is, I was still naïve. However, with
every bullet that pierced through each innocent black body, the systemic racism that had targeted the
Black community for centuries had made itself known to me. More

Furthermore, in America given the separation of powers, it is entirely possible for either or both
houses of Congress to be controlled by a different party than that of the presidents. In such a
circumstance, they may be more willing to block presidential initiatives than work with the president.
Opportunities for filibustering in the senate are also possible if the president does not have the support
of 60 senators, and this can cause delays in legislation. However, problems with organisation in
congress with a lack of leadership somewhat hinders their ability to oversee the work of the president,
as it is unclear as to whom speaks on behalf of the opposition in congress. Hence it clear that congress
is a more effective at controlling the president than parliament is at controlling the government given
the simple majorities required to pass legislation in the UK.
Congress in committees is Congress at work . A powerful committee system in America guarantees
the organisational effectiveness of Congress. Coupled with the staffing and informational resources
than their UK counterparts, this enables them to provide greater control over the work of the
executive. They can direct these resources in fulfilling a legislative as well as scrutiny function.
However, its ability to influence the work of the executive depends on their degree of specialism for

government funding is low, colleges receive less funding from the government as well as lower

Myths around Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol
DUI s have been on the rise in the past few years, therefore there have been many myths on how to
not obtain a DUI or a DWI. New York became the pioneer state in which, they made to first drunk
driving laws in 1910, followed shortly after California then the other forty eight states followed. These
DUI laws stated that a driver could not operate a vehicle while under the influence, although
intoxication was not defined by legislature at this period of time. Then in the 1930 s committees
wanted to make the roads safer. So The American Medical Association started a committee that
studied the most common issues that lead to accidents. Also the National Safety Council created a
study that determined intoxication, they reached a conclusion that a Blood Alcohol Content above
0.15 was intoxicated and anything under a person was sober, this became the first legal limit for BAC
in 1938. Although as time progressed the laws became stricter, this was due to various groups that
petitioned against drunk driving. The pressure from these organizations led to changes, such as raising
the legal drinking age to twenty one years of age, which was required for all states, yet drunk driving
laws was not required by all police departments at this time. Then the legal limit was lowered to 0.10
from 0.15, then once lowered again to our legal limit we have to which is 0.08. The first myth to bust
is the various amounts of ways someone can fool a Breathalyzer. The Breathalyzer is a small handheld

Sexism In Today s Society

(a) Tax Implications on Relocation Cost
The employer of Mary paid her $4,000 for the transfer of furniture for her recent relocation at

(e) Tax implications on Loan
The employer of Mary has also provided her a loan of $500,000 at a reduced rate of only 4%. When
an employer grants a loan to an employee at a rate lower than market rate then section 16, Division 4
of Fringe Benefit Tax Assessment Act 1986 requires to pay tax on loan fringe benefit at the difference

benchmark rate is 5.45% (Deloitte, 2016). The taxable value will be gross up by Type 2 benefit rate of
1.9608 because we assume that the employer is not obliged to get a refund on this amount. It will give
a taxable value of $14,216 ($7,250 x 1.9608) and when this amount is charged by current tax rate of

It was done a experienced troops infiltrating enemy territory to surprise the guards then doing a full

Trench warfare was done by opposing army s creating trenches. In between those trenches was an area

5. Is the criminalisation of the State a useful and accurate analysis of the consequences of
globalisation for Sub Saharan Africa? Exemplify your answer.
The Criminalisation of the State in Africa is an unhelpful and inaccurate phenomena which postulates
that at the heart of political and governmental institutions within Africa lies crime. It is clear that in the
wake of globalisation and post colonial neoliberal reforms Africa has struggled to maintain its stature
in the world wide global economy; the GDP for the whole of Sub Saharan Africa stands at $744
billion, which is just 28% of Chinas. The rise of the Asian Tiger economies in the east marked the
beginning of modern globalisation; improvements in technology and the outsourcing of ... Show more

Although growth has been slow in comparison to the rest of the world increases in FDI, social
enterprise and the manufacturing sector suggest that there is hope for the continent; with historical
social unrest and political deviance thus far preventing wide spread economic growth and
development.
Africa has a history of political and civil unrest dating back to the late 19th century and the start of the
colonial occupation of African nations. Since independence many nations have struggled with
undemocratic governments famous for corruption, embezzlement and money laundering. Within the
criminalisation of state theory it is claimed that Sub Saharan Africa has a standardised criminal model
derived from dominant social groups exploiting the income gained from their insertion into the
international economy as a method of dependence (Bayart, Ellis and Hibou 1999). This is an attempt
to show the historical context of the criminality within the state as if it is something that has existed
throughout all of the African nations importing and exporting life span. In order to suit this argument
it is easy to use few famous state leaders, such as Charles Taylor or Joseph Momoh, who are renowned
for their criminal activity as examples; however to paint a whole continent with the same brush seems
nonsensical and inaccurate. Botswana emerged from the colonial regime one of the poorest nations in
Africa yet due to a

Technology In Fashion Technology
Imagine a world where humans are not fighting against technology, but are working alongside these
machines... computers are built by humans to basically to make our lives easier. When we apply
technology into fashion, we begin to adapt and become better equipped for the days ahead. In context,
as warmer temperatures, to raise humans to develop synthetic breathable fibers to keep us cool. The
popularity of technology such as iPods, smartphones, and artificially intelligent devices are growing
and humans are becoming attached to their devices. Occasionally, I try to have one day technology
free but, the main reason why me and majority of humans can t live without their devices is mainly
that we programmed them with our personality. Having a personalized device is so significant and
smart devices learn from us as we learned from them. Technology in fashion like my Apple Watch
which is called a wearable. My Apple Watch tracks my heart rate, notifies me when to stand or
exercise when I ve been sitting too long, even tells me when to drink water and a plethora of things,
but the main thing to take from this is that having a personal trainer encourages me to practice healthy
living. If individuals were to adapt to these changes in fashion technology, they would better enhance
their cognitive function.
A known form of fabrication in the fashion technology world is 3D printing which uses strands of
plastic or polyamide that is easily moldable to make whatever you want, like fidget

Franchising Is The Single Most Successful Marketing...
Franchising is the wave of the future, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce. John Naisbitt
writes in Megatrends that Franchising is the single most successful marketing concept ever.
Nowadays, McDonald s Corporation has 36,368 restaurants around the world. McDonald s has
established its success based on a widespread practise in capitalistic societies, known as franchising.
Many entrepreneurs (the franchisees) have chosen to acquire a franchise to access the knowledge, the
trademark, and the processes of a corporation (the franchisor); in order to sell a product, or provide a
service under the business name. In return, depending on the franchise contract, the franchisee usually
pays additional money for the start up of his company, and annual licensing fees. Franchises are
extremely popular among entrepreneurs who wish to operate in highly competitive industries, such as
fast food industry. In fact, franchises biggest advantage is trademarks. Through franchising,
entrepreneurs gain access to an established company s brand name, already known by the customers.
Also, the franchisor often provides assistance before and during the life of the franchise. Of course,
success is not guaranteed, and work and talent have to be invested to attain profits. Many americans
have achieved wealthiness through franchising. Thus, despite the fact that some entrepreneurs who
attempted this endeavor have not been so fortunate, and eventually declared bankruptcy, I strongly
believe

Public Sector in India
Overview of Central Public Sector Enterprises
The government owned corporations play a pivotal role in the economic development of emerging
economies because their participation is higher in the industrial and commercial activities of these
economies. Resource constraints and limited scope of the private sector in the early stages of
development and planning have set the stage for predominance of the public enterprises in these
economies. Thus, public sectors in the leading developing countries of the world (including the
countries in the BRIC region) play a very important role.
Investments in public sector enterprises have also been greater and have continued to accelerate
growth in core sectors of a developing economy (such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Industrial Licensing Policy 1970 placed certain restrictions on undertakings belonging to large

industrial houses was adopted in conformity with that of the Monopolies and Restrictive Trade
Practices Act (MRTPA) 1969 and included companies whose assets exceeded Rs 200 mn. This move
intended to provide the government more effective control on concentration of economic power.
The Industrial Policy 1977 provided greater interaction between agriculture and industrial sectors. The
Industrial Policy Statement of July 1980 spelt out major policy initiatives such as XVIII optimum
utilisation of installed capacity, correction of regional imbalances, high employment generation,
promotion of economic federalism, and more importantly, focused on reviving efficiency of public
sector enterprises through a time bound programme of corrective action on a unit by unit basis.
The next major policy initiated by the government was the announcement of the Statement on

The Discovery of X-Rays Essay
The Discovery of X Rays
X rays were discovered by accident in 1895 by the German physicist Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen.
Roentgen was already an accomplished scientist with forty eight published papers. He had a reputation
among the scientific community as a dedicated scientist with precise experimental methods. Roentgen
had been conducting experiments at the University of Wurzburg on the effect of cathode rays on the
luminescence of certain chemicals. Roentgen had placed a cathode ray tube, which is a partially
evacuated glass tube with metal electrodes at each end, in a black cardboard box in his darkened
laboratory. He sent electricity through the cathodre ray tube and noticed something strange his
laboratory. He saw a flash of light ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During an experiment he placed his hand between the source of the X ray, the cathode ray tube and a
screen and saw the faint outline of the bones of his hand. It was the first X ray picture. The more dense
bone absorbed more X rays then the less dense flesh producing an image of his hand. He soon learned
that photographic plates were sensitive to X ray as they are to light and was thus able to make the first
X ray photography. These first Roentgen exposures were of various metal objects that were locked in
a wooden case and of his wife s hand.
On December 2, 1895, Roentgen sent his paper titled, Concerning a New Kind of Ray: Preliminary
Report to the Physical Medical Association who published it in their 1895 volume of the minutes of
the association. His report was soon published in several magazines around the world and in daily
newspapers causing a tremendous stir. On January 23, 1896, about a year before the Invisible Man
was published, Roentgen delivered his first public lecture on X rays at the meeting of the Physical
Medical Association. During the lecture, he asked a well known anatomist to have his hand
photographed using X rays. The photo came out good and was passed around. The hall erupted in
applause and cheers for Roentgen for everyone saw the practical uses of this new ray. Less than
twenty days after the lecture, an X ray machine was used in the United States to locate a bullet in a

Ethical Dilemma of Hiv Disclosure in Intimate Relationships
HIV Prevention with Positives in Thailand: Ethical Dilemma of HIV Status Disclosure in intimate
relationship.
Abstract
Every year, there are about ten thousand new HIV infection cases in Thailand. The majority of new
HIV transmissions in Thailand have changed from commercial sex to intimate relationships while HIV
prevention generally focuses on self protection and universal precaution. In 2003, Center for Disease
Control and Prevention recommend to integrate HIV preventive measure into routine HIV care.
According to a survey of People Living with HIV and AIDS (PLWHA) in Thailand, 45% of HIV
infections came from transmission between spouses and 10% believed that their partners knew their
HIV status before having a relationship. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of these preventive measures aim at self protection of the general HIV negative population and
vulnerable groups. HIV positive people have not been included in prevention strategies and messages.
Fear of further stigmatization exclude concept of responsibility for health of sexual partner as an
alternative strategy and prevention program. (Bayer 1996) However research has shown that after
most PLWHA learn their HIV status they reduce their unprotected sex, though some still engage in
unsafe sex.(Janssen, Holtgrave, Valdiserri et al. 2001; Marks, Richardson, Crepaz et al. 2002) In 2003,
the Centers for Disease Control recommended the Prevention with Positives strategy to promote
sexual health among PLWHA attending HIV/AIDS clinic and to help reduce onward HIV
transmission.(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 2003) Positive prevention was
recommended by UNAIDS (the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS); it has been
implemented in industrialized countries, and should be a priority in high prevalence regions.(Bunnell
R, J. and K 2006)
Advance in medical treatment, especially antiretroviral treatment have improved quality of life and
prolongs survival. Antiretroviral treatment also reduces the probability of HIV transmission by
reducing virus to undetectable level. (Vernazzaa, Hirschelb, Bernasconic et al. 2008)

William Blake s The Chimney-Sweeper, Holy Thursday...
Compare and Contrast William Blake s The Chimney Sweeper, Holy Thursday (Innocence) and
London
I am going to compare and contrast three of William Blake poems, where he shows his feelings about
the way people treat children: The
Chimney Sweeper, Holy Thursday (Innocence) and London.
The Chimney Sweeper is about a child who sweeps chimneys. William
Blake sets this poem in the winter. The children worked in the cold.
Blake says, A little black thing among the snow, The little black thing, Is the child who is dirty from
cleaning the chimneys who stands out in the snow. He also looks like a black mask on the landscape.
Like a dirty stain. Crying weep, weep in the notes of woe! Blake hears them crying a song. As
children do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They think, they have done me no injury, But they have. The adults have behaved as though nothing
was wrong, and continued to go church, praising god, priest and king. Blake s last line is his comment
on roles of the church and government, who he considers have equally badly, by allowing defenceless
children to do their kind of job and made the children s life a misery. Who have made up a heaven of
our misery (paradox) and yet these adults seem able to continue their lives and forget the dilemma of
the children.
In the poem London William Blake makes a political statement about
London.
I wondered throu each charter d street he is leisurely walks through the streets of London. Charter d is
to be on the map. Blake is making an attack on the establishment, he is blaming the government for
the fact that people living in London at this time have been worn down by the system, making them
weak, burnt out and powerless. Marks of weakness marks of woe
In verse two.
In every cry of every man,
In every infant s cry of fear,
In every voice, in every ban,
Mind forg d manacles I hear
There is repetition, shows that they are suffering. Blake is explaining how every body is crying
because of their life style, even though there still working because there are poorly paid and families
were big. They are trapped in manacles. People s

What Are The Strategic Elements Taken By Glenmark To...
Describe the Strategic elements taken by Glenmark to overcome the key challenges faced by the
Pharmaceuticals Industry?
In the United States, due to the reduction in opportunities in generics specifically of small molecule
domain, Glenmark shifted its focus from this domain to mainly respiratory, dermatology and
oncology. Glenmark was also facing challenge from the entry of new companies in the market which
was increasing its competition; hence they identified the strategy of differentiation and started
releasing novel products. Glenmark was noticing that all its competitors were crowding around United
States of America and United Kingdom, moreover these markets of the first world country were
offering a lot of pricing pressure. At the same time they were also facing the challenge of shift to local
manufacturing of generic drugs in the important emerging market. To this, the company started
focusing on its R D for its specific niche and complex commodities, Glenmark also started focusing
on newer dosage sizes which had lesser competition. The company also increased its New Molecular
Entities pipelines and it also expanded its partnerships in the market to cater to the local requirements.
Roadmap taken into a innovative research led firm and launch proprietary products by Glenmark?

  • 2. How Far Do You Agree That the Hundred Flowers Campaign Was... How far do you agree that the Hundred Flowers campaign was a trick designed by Mao to trap his opponents? The Hundred Flowers Campaign began in 1957 when Mao Zedong declared in a speech, Let a hundred schools of thought contend, effectively encouraging criticism from members of the Chinese Communist Party. After members began pointing out where the party had made mistakes, however, Mao suddenly reversed this new policy and began the Anti Rightist Movement, condemning the critics whose opinions he had just previously invited. Was the Hundred Flowers Campaign a trick designed by Mao to trap his opponents? Mao reversed his policies, which people may use as proof that the campaign was a trick. Mao first announced his call for criticism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mao s retaliation was severe, precise, and on an enormously large scale. He was obviously poised to attack, and this hints that the Hundred Flowers Campaign was merely a wily method of enticing Mao s prey. There is, on the other hand, much evidence to support that the campaign was a genuine attempt at reform. In his Contradictions speech, given to leading party workers in early 1957, Mao complained of the oppressive way some party officials were applying policies and hinted that it was time to begin permitting intellectuals to voice their opinions. Furthermore, in 1956, he had been tolerant of Hu Feng, a writer who challenged the idea that all artistic merit should be judged based on Marxist Leninist values, even as other CCP leaders viciously censured him. These two examples show that Mao, although previously disdainful of intellectuals, may have begun to see their importance, and thus may have been honestly inviting their criticism when the Hundred Flowers Campaign began. In addition, the launching of the Hundred Flowers Campaign may have been triggered by events in other communist states rather than a desire to trick party opponents. In 1956, Soviet Union leader Nikita Khrushchev launched an attack on the previous leader Joseph Stalin, dead now for three years, and his cult of personality, Mao probably saw how his own popularity adulating portraits of him were being hung everywhere could also be ... Summary Of Retreat Of The Elephants Evan Zabriski 4/3/14 Professor Wu Paper #11 Word Count: 1,222 The Retreat of the Elephants The Retreat of the Elephants is a book in which the author Mark Elvin presents two large issues: How has the Chinese culture changed in the past four thousand years? And, in what ways did the distinctive characteristics of this ancient civilization effect the process of change? Elvin separates his study into three sections. The first section is Patterns in which he illustrates the environmental history of China, describing some of the changes the country went through environmentally and economically. The author also explains the reasoning behind the title of the book. Four thousand years ago, there were elephants in the area that was later to become Beijing (located in the Northeast) as well as in most of the rest of what was later to be China. ... • 5. Use Of Allegory In Dante Inferno In Dante Alighieri The Divine Comedy, Dante uses powerful imagery and goes into immense detail on a journey to the afterlife. Dante uses a lot of well written imagery to make his story seem more relatable and real, to scare his readers into believing that you need only turn to God for the forgiveness of sin. At the beginning of the story, Dante is walking in the woods in darkness feeling sad and not right with God, after this Dante see a mountain and tries to go up but he is blocked by three beasts which represent sin. Most everything in this story is an allegory, he means two things, literal and figurative meaning. I came to a place stripped bare of every light and roaring on naked dark like seas wracked by a war of winds (Canto 5 inferno), this when Dante goes into the second circle of hell and watches as the lustful are swirl around in this never ending storm of lust. Dante is using this point of view to try and give a realistic vibe to the readers. He talks to Francesca and Paolo two lovers who were murdered after found having affair against Francesca husband Giovanni Malatesta. After talking to them Dante is starting to get a sense of how real his journey is, he is feeling overwhelmed Dante falls to the ground and pass is out. And while one spirit Francesca said these words to me, the other Paolo wept, so that, because of pity, I fainted, as if I had met my death. And then I fell as a dead body falls. • 6. Strong National Museum Case Study The Strong National Museum of Play was originally founded in 1968 as the Margret Woodbury Strong Museum of Fascination. The museum was created due to the will of Margret Strong and the bulk of the collection came from her estate. Toys and dolls made up the largest part of the collection although it contained a range of objects from buttons to home furnishings. The majority of the collection was also mass produced so initially the museum used them to examine ways in which industrialization changed everyday life. ...this focus evolved into an examination of the consequences of progress, the rise of the middle class, and expressions of identity. This was a complete departure from the interpretative themes of children, play, imagination, and fun that the dolls and toys evoked. Over time the Strong Museum began to increase family programming and install more interactive, child focused exhibits. Eventually, this led to the institution s rebranding as the Strong National Museum of Play in the late 2000 s as well as its creation of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Regarding this dichotomy, my thesis questions will include: When is it appropriate for a museum to change its mission? Does success in a museum s current field mean that a museum should not change its mission? Should institutional history prevent a museum from major change? Does a museum have an obligation to serve a wider community over a smaller interest group? How should new research and changing cultural norms affect a museum and its mission? Due to the fact that the Strong Museum s new mission is seen as a return to the original ideals of Margret Strong, my research paper will also explore these questions: Should the interests of a museum s founder play a role in shaping its mission? Business Continuity Journal, Volume Two, Issue Three Page 19 Business recovery team The business recovery team initially established the critical success factors. These were broken down into short, medium and long term. No single business recovery plan exists for this type of incident as the entire incident was complex with a large number of stakeholders involved. The main business continuity plans were utilised for short term loss of the terminal building and loss of road infrastructure. The latter was of particular use as traffic was initially banned from the forecourt area of the airport. In order to get a limited operation up and running, it was important to build on our well established relationship with Strathclyde Police. The whole terminal forecourt area was clearly being treated as a crime scene which restricted movement in and around the area and, therefore, stopped the business recovery team getting access to the building. Through consultation and flexible working, the police were able to concentrate on the incident area which gave us access to the terminal building, in the first instance through the adjoining multi storey car park, and then through the ground floor doors. On getting initial access, we were able to utilise T2 (a separate overflow check in area). This meant we were able to work ahead of the police to be operationally ready when the area was handed over. • 8. Summary Of The Working Poor Michael James Ms. Phelps Pols 210 02 The Working Poor Essay The Working Poor is a story of hard times in our lives, that can vary in times of the poor struggles, middle class struggles, and just overall all struggles of everyday people whom have difficult times in their lives. In this reading we found there were difficult things happening to people in this book in different chapters and nothing really had a positive note from what the basis of the story had led us to believe. There is some of this story where its chapter talks about money and how it is breaking down people s lives simply with all aspects that are fairly difficult with money; such as income tax as its goes into how the people cannot do their tax returns or pay their taxes, people being scammed out their money, little to no trust in banks, and it even mentions certain tax company in its efforts to stress the difficulties faced. Another speaks on some people life stories Ms. Christine, Ms. Debra Hall, and Ms. Caroline Payne. These women faced many difficulties that it speaks about and it almost becomes a consideration to be a biography in the story in this chapter really. Later in the chapters it brings on some hardships on the men in the story where some of these men make difficult decisions and they are not good to be honest they bring hardship to their families to the next level because these are times where men should have been considered the workers while they had a wife whom did house work and natured the ... The term and notion, suffrage, is limited to the right to vote, but for women it represented more, a catalyst for change. However, even before equal pay legislation, employment rights, among other liberties men didn t share, the right to vote was brought upon by a myriad of various factors that were necessary to overcome the many roadblocks. As a consequence, it took years, decades for these ideals to alter the ink on voting legislation, even in municipalities, longer still for state/federal votes, even longer still for women of ethnic minorities to be included. The Prairies Isolationism on the West Coast Manitoba entered the confederation in 1870, initially only white men, of whom were at least 21 years old were permitted to vote. 2 years later, the province participated in their first general election, in which the state made it explicit that women weren t qualified to vote, in this general election and in all other electoral divisions. The Icelandic community, fought for suffrage in Manitoba, an expected pursuit considering Icelandic women had already attained voting rights in their homeland. They pushed for more progressive, and female inclusive, legislation; all while utilising the free press to expand their movement. The predominant weight backing suffrage was the agricultural movement and settlements, the details of which were mentioned prior in the previous paragraph, women were drawn in via promises of equality. In terms of network effects, it could be seen as a one sided network (users can instigate an interaction, or can have someone else instigate an interaction with them), but is better described as a two sided market with men on one side, and women on the other (with the exception of homosexual sites which are clearly one sided markets). The problem of collective action poses great difficulties for rational choice theory, which cannot explain why individuals join many kinds of groups and associations. 5. • 18. How Does Sowat Use Personification In Never Cry Wolf Wolves are a vital part of animal s well being. In the book Never Cry Wolf by Farley Mowat, Mowat goes to study wolves in the middle of barren Canada. In Canada he meets an Eskimo named Mike and he stays in his cabin while he finds a wolf den to study. He studies how pups grow up and how the wolves hunt, also their diet. He finds out how the caribou are disappearing, and estimates how many are killed in a certain amount of time. Along with many other things Mowat uses Logos with Personification and Characterization to explain how the wolves are not savage killers. Mowat uses Personification to prove wolves are not savage killers. In the book Never Cry Wolf when Mowat is alone studying the wolves he begins to give them names and personalities. I can only attribute to the fact that George s sense of humor, which was well developed, led him to accept the affair as a crude practical joke (110). Mowat had set some mouse traps to catch mice to study and dissect, but the wolf he called George walked through them and ran home. George understood it as a joke. George and Angeline also played jokes on Uncle Albert which is the 3rd wolf. Maybe that s because I was never really read to consistently. My mother claims to have read to me some when I was younger, but I don t remember it. Giving birth to five kids in seven years, and having one die at three days old, sort of cut into her time for entertaining me with thrilling renditions of The Cat in the Hat. I had to entertain myself with what I could find, and I picked up some basic reading skills from some of the kid s shows on television in the sixties. When I hit that magical age of six and went to elementary school, I was introduced to the first real books I can remember. There I learned about the world of Alice and Jerry, ... I didn t really care what they were actually talking about from frame to frame. The pictures were my inspiration simply to be there with the characters, and that was the fun of it for me. About the only thing I actually remember reading for fun during my elementary years was Mad Magazine, because reading much of anything was just too much like school to me. Reading for school was something I had to do whether I wanted to or not, and usually I didn t want to. Part of the reason I didn t enjoy my early years in school was that I was an average student who made terrible marks in penmanship, something they graded students on back then as if fine motor skills, or more to the point the lack of them were a sign of your place on the scale between true intelligence and dull existence. By the second grade I consistently made D s on my report card in handwriting, which prompted my mother, who had beautiful penmanship, to force me to sit for hours practicing my letters. ... Good experiences being those that we vaguely remember and usually forgot as time goes by. And bad experiences being those that we remember and learn from; which impact and play a very important role in the life of every chef. No kitchen is perfect, every kitchen is different. It takes time for you to find the perfect kitchen and get used to the environment. Borgne was one of those bad experiences that I will never forget. The first day I walked into Borgne, Chef David gave me the usual tour of the kitchen and the typical introduction to the cooks and the front staff. When I introduced myself as being a CIA student, one of the chefs laughed and said ha no CIA student ever makes it in this kitchen . I responded trying to defend the CIA s reputation by saying I m not one of those CIA students. And that s how it all began. After the group meeting, I was given my black chef coat (which I hate because you can see everything on them) and nothing else. I was then sent home and told to be ready for the next day. I spent the entire day thinking about what chef said to me and what it meant. What did they do wrong, and what I can do to be better than them. New York became the pioneer state in which, they made to first drunk driving laws in 1910, followed shortly after California then the other forty eight states followed. These DUI laws stated that a driver could not operate a vehicle while under the influence, although intoxication was not defined by legislature at this period of time. Then in the 1930 s committees wanted to make the roads safer. So The American Medical Association started a committee that studied the most common issues that lead to accidents. Also the National Safety Council created a study that determined intoxication, they reached a conclusion that a Blood Alcohol Content above 0.15 was intoxicated and anything under a person was sober, this became the first legal limit for BAC in 1938. Although as time progressed the laws became stricter, this was due to various groups that petitioned against drunk driving. The pressure from these organizations led to changes, such as raising the legal drinking age to twenty one years of age, which was required for all states, yet drunk driving laws was not required by all police departments at this time. Then the legal limit was lowered to 0.10 from 0.15, then once lowered again to our legal limit we have to which is 0.08. Exemplify your answer. The Criminalisation of the State in Africa is an unhelpful and inaccurate phenomena which postulates that at the heart of political and governmental institutions within Africa lies crime. It is clear that in the wake of globalisation and post colonial neoliberal reforms Africa has struggled to maintain its stature in the world wide global economy; the GDP for the whole of Sub Saharan Africa stands at $744 billion, which is just 28% of Chinas. Although growth has been slow in comparison to the rest of the world increases in FDI, social enterprise and the manufacturing sector suggest that there is hope for the continent; with historical social unrest and political deviance thus far preventing wide spread economic growth and development. Africa has a history of political and civil unrest dating back to the late 19th century and the start of the colonial occupation of African nations. Since independence many nations have struggled with undemocratic governments famous for corruption, embezzlement and money laundering. Within the criminalisation of state theory it is claimed that Sub Saharan Africa has a standardised criminal model derived from dominant social groups exploiting the income gained from their insertion into the international economy as a method of dependence (Bayart, Ellis and Hibou 1999). This is an attempt to show the historical context of the criminality within the state as if it is something that has existed throughout all of the African nations importing and exporting life span. In order to suit this argument it is easy to use few famous state leaders, such as Charles Taylor or Joseph Momoh, who are renowned for their criminal activity as examples; however to paint a whole continent with the same brush seems nonsensical and inaccurate. John Naisbitt writes in Megatrends that Franchising is the single most successful marketing concept ever. Nowadays, McDonald s Corporation has 36,368 restaurants around the world. McDonald s has established its success based on a widespread practise in capitalistic societies, known as franchising. Many entrepreneurs (the franchisees) have chosen to acquire a franchise to access the knowledge, the trademark, and the processes of a corporation (the franchisor); in order to sell a product, or provide a service under the business name. In return, depending on the franchise contract, the franchisee usually pays additional money for the start up of his company, and annual licensing fees. Franchises are extremely popular among entrepreneurs who wish to operate in highly competitive industries, such as fast food industry. In fact, franchises biggest advantage is trademarks. Through franchising, entrepreneurs gain access to an established company s brand name, already known by the customers. Also, the franchisor often provides assistance before and during the life of the franchise. Of course, success is not guaranteed, and work and talent have to be invested to attain profits. He soon learned that photographic plates were sensitive to X ray as they are to light and was thus able to make the first X ray photography. These first Roentgen exposures were of various metal objects that were locked in a wooden case and of his wife s hand.
