Beethoven s Fifth Symphony
Beethoven s Fifth Symphony Beethoven s fifth symphony, composed in 1808, is a fantastic musical
masterpiece. It sends you on a wild emotional rollercoaster for the entire thirty two minute length of
the piece. The first movement is in sonata form, the second is in theme and variations form, the third
is a scherzo and the last movement is also in sonata form. The ride begins with a first movement of
chaos and suspense. The movement shifts back and forth between powerful dark dominant chords and
motives and triumphant light lyrical melodies. The image that comes to mind is that of a chase in third
person. The exposition starts off with a motive that is three short notes and one long one. It s forceful
and dominant and it feels like it grabs

Moon is a Harsh Mistress
That Dinkum Thinkum is the first of three sections in the book Moon is a Harsh Mistress. It is set in
Luna City in the late 21st Century. Luna City is one of the colonies of the moon , made as a permanent
exile for hard case criminals. It s made as a permanent exile because after remaining on luna for about
a month, without aid, one physiology changes making it near impossible to for them to return to earth;

Mannie AKA Mannuel and the Professor go to Earth to plead Luna s case and embark on a world tour
advertising the benefits of a free Luna, while urging various governments to build a catapult to
transfer supplies to Luna in exchange for grain. Their proposals are rejected and they are imprisoned;
but they are freed. Meanwhile on Luna, the news of Mannuel s arrest and the attempt to bribe him
with the appointment of himself as Warden have unified the normally fractious Loonies. An election is
held in which Mannie, Wyoh, and the Professor are elected. Tanstaafl ( There Ain t No Such Thing As

were vanquished, with great loss of life, by the revolutionaries. The rumor is circulated that Mike s
alter ego Adam Selene was among those killed, thus removing the need for him to appear in the
flesh.A second attack destroys Mike s original catapult, but the Loonies have built a secondary smaller
one in a secret location, and with Mannie acting as its on site commander, the Loonies continue to
attack Earth until it concedes Luna s independence. Professor Bernardo de la Paz, as leader of the
nation, proclaims victory to the gathered crowds; but collapses and dies. Mannie takes control, but he

Visualizing Nutrition
Before I was able to describe the similarities and differences of the diets, I first needed to figure out
what exactly they were. The DASH eating plan as intentions to lower hypertension, USDA food
patterns were created for citizens to follow their dietary guidelines, and the Mediterranean diet is not a
diet, if is a lifestyle (Wiley, Visualizing Nutrition) that one will normally continue with. Some
similarities between the diets are that they all want you to intake the correct amount of food, no more
no less, and they all focus on very similar types of food. While reading our Visualizing nutrition book,
I learned that all of these eating styles they are all very nutrient dense styles of eating, including fish,
other seafoods and proteins, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of these common claims say promise of fast weight loss quantities and imitations, promotes
specific food combinations, and no need to be physically active. (WordsonWellness). You never want
to all of the sudden and dramatically lose weight, it is far better to gradually lose weight. FAD diets
that avoid eating multiple food groups take away the vitamins that the human body needs to survive
and be healthy. FAD diets that tell you to eat at certain times are also incorrect, you should eat when
you feel hungry but only eat until you are satisfied and not full. Lastly, diets that say you do not need
any physical activity may be shedding weight off of your body, but you are not gaining muscle and
becoming stronger, in the long term you may even feel weaker. Many people who become apart of the
FAD diet community think that their health will improve, in some cases this is inaccurate. Based on
what I have learned in past nutrition classes and my own personal experience they can actually be very
bad for your health, not just the inside of your body, but the outside too. You may notice muscle and
even hair loss. I had a friend who started losing her hair when starting a very common FAD diet. You
will also notice deficiencies in your nutrition especially if you cut out carbs because they are the main
source of our energy.

Living In A Residential Community Analysis
Living in a residential community seems pretty similar to living in a dorm in college, which was not a
problem for me. Pros are being able to meet new people and having a stronger sense of independence.
Also, because you re surrounded by other DIS students, everyone is in a similar situation and is
probably experiencing the same concerns; it would be nice to have other students to talk with about
similar struggles or triumphs. The biggest cons would probably be feeling like you have no time to
yourself as well as possibly not interacting enough with Danish locals. As a roommate, I m a mostly
clean and quiet person. I m also a heavy sleeper and I love to sleep in but I can also rally pretty early if
I need to. My greatest contribution to my

Analysis Of The Book The Way Green By John Green
Paper Towns is The New York Times Bestseller, Edgar Award, and Printz Award winning novel
written by John Green. The way Green organizes the book is well simple and well planned and is
simple to follow. The novel is divided into three sections that organize the growth of the story and
plot. I liked the way this was done because it keeps the reader alert and more involved in the novel.
Margo and Quentin, the two main characters in the novel, are childhood friends who gradually drift
apart as they grow older. Everything changes between Margo and Quentin when they discover a dead
man s body. This event transforms their lives and Margo s imagination. Margo disappears one day
after spending a night filled with bold risks with Quentin, and he is convinced that Margo left him
clues to help him find her. Symbolism is shown throughout the book that helps convey many different
meanings of life; and two examples of symbolism include strings and paper towns. One of the many
symbols in the book are strings. This symbol is connected to several people in the novel and one of
them is a dead man named Robert Joyner. When Margo and Quentin first find the dead body, Margo is
not afraid to approach it while Quentin is scared and wants to leave. They later find out that Robert
Joyner committed suicide but do not know why. Margo later hypothesizes that, Maybe all the strings
inside him broke (Green 8). The strings represent the sanity of a person and the hope of keeping
oneself

The Slavery Of The North And South Between 1700 And 1799
In the Western countries including America, most of the nations incorporated provisions for slavery
within their structure of governance. As slavery took roots in the North and South between 1700 and
1799, it influenced political, social and economic structures of the two regions throughout the 18th
century. Towards the end of 17th century, European masters embarked on granting independence to
their colonies. As the European colonies in the North gained independence, residents of the
independent states acquired cheap land that was left by their colonial masters. As workers were
needed to work on the land and build new towns, some of the families sold some of their children to
provide labor (Goldin, Cameron Balarajan, 2011). Furthermore, during the time of colonization,
American colonies in the North recognized compulsory labor; thus prompting most of the masters to
hire fellow Americans or Europeans as laborers. Although some of the Africans provided labor in the
North during this time, the colonial government did not recognize perpetual servitude for the Africans.
However, with the decline in the number of laborers, the colonial government was quick to pass a law
that contributed to the enslavement of Africans and their children residing in the North. Furthermore,
by 1700, most of the states in the North adopted laws aimed at regulating slaves and servants (Morris,
1999). According to research, the Dutch and English masters played a significant role in enslaving

Italian Influence On The Renaissance
When contemplating on the Renaissance and its place in history, immediately reflections of Leonardo
da Vinci s Mona Lisa, Michelangelo s David, sculptures of human anatomy, philosophical treatises on
the human condition, and among others populate the mind, but how did this output of great work
manage to seemingly appear almost simultaneously? Firstly, the Renaissance a French word literally
meaning rebirth was an age of cultural enrichment and achievement where the arts, sciences, and
philosophy flourished largely due to the revival and revisitation of ancient Greek and roman texts. Its
period is generally dated from the early 14th to the mid 17th centuries beginning in Italy. Italy

In figure 1, titled The Plaque of Acrobats, is a painting by the French artist Pierre Penicaud is clearly
influenced by humanistic and naturalistic thought [1]. The topic of this exceptional plaque is
acrobatics; however if we were to widen our scope one can understand the physical and mental agility
that s beneath the goal of brilliant skill. Acrobatics allow for the showcasing of male agility and
strength highlighting the humanistic quality for pursuit of excellence. The use of grisaille accentuates
the abstract aspects of the design at the expense of realism. The manipulation of anatomy for aesthetic
effect is characteristic of the mannerist style [2]. Naturalism is often confused with realism , a style of
art that focuses on realities and truth, rather than the ideals and aesthetics. The difference between
Realism and Naturalism is that realism tends to be preoccupied with the content of the art rather than
technique or methodology. This means that the primary focus is on the subject who or what rather than
how it is created. Typically, realist artists depict common people going about their ordinary lives,

My Father Speech
Dreams From My Father by the well known author Barack Obama was one of the most diversified
presidents The United States has ever seen. His life began, being born in Honolulu, Hawaii then
growing up in Indonesia and eventually living in the middle of Chicago; his upbringing is nothing of
the ordinary. Barack s memoir reveals his encounters, stories, and feelings about becoming an African
American leader in the United States of America. His diction and use of precise language helps
captivate the reader into understanding the struggles he had faced throughout his life. Barack had a
strong devotion to helping the young kids of Chicago. He wanted to give them a life, a chance at
something. His discussions often got pretty heated with other leaders in the community over this issue
as well as many other. No, I m just asking you a question. You say you re tired, the same way most
folks out here are tired. So I m just trying to figure out what s going to happen to these boys. Who s
going to make sure they get a fair shot? The alderman? The social workers? The gangs? (172). This is
just an example of the several outbursts Barack had while facing opposition throughout his
community. The way in which he calls to action, allows the reader to question his/her own
involvement in their own community . It lets the reader reflect upon their own choices and makes
them realize that they have a commitment to uphold to their community. Furthermore, the way Barack

Tale Of Genji Critical Lens
I think that one of the main points for the first source, The Tale Of Genji, is that Japanese literature
can be just as important and masterful as European/Western and that The Tale of Genji shows that by
being amazingly written. I see that in this quote: If nothing else, the publication of this new translation
informs (or reminds) readers that there is a Japanese novel out there as complex and masterful as any
published in the West. That it was written 1,000 years ago in the Far East, and by a woman, makes us
question our long standing ideas about the roots of the modern novel . This quote shows that because
It says that we might need to question our ideas about the roots of the novel. That is important to the
theme because it s saying that

The Gay Marriage Debate Compromise
The Gay Marriage Debate Compromise
Although Procon.org and Family Research Council.org (FRC.org) disagree about if or whether gay
marriage should be legal in the U.S.; they do recognize the fundamental right to be married, and the
right to be homosexual. They do however disagree on the definition of marriage and its application to
homosexuality has been challenged. It is possible that Procon.org and FRC.org which built upon their
common goals and concerns about gay marriage; that they might be able to come to terms with a
compromising solution to the relatively new problem in our so society. Homosexuality has existed in
past cultures and has not been tolerated well by most cultures at every period of human existence.

(Family Research Council.org). Fact not fiction, children raised without a father are more likely to be
in the penal system and more promiscuous. If we take the concept of homosexual family and child
raising out of the question, we are left with the marriage aspect still. We do not find homosexual
marriage in nature because a species will not survive, is one way to look at it. It goes against God, is
another way to look at the big picture (ProCon.org). Most of the arguments stem from the fundamental
rights to be happy and pursue life, liberty, and justice. Those same rights are derived from our nation s
belief in a Judeo Christian God and are not found in all countries around the earth. While denying
same sex marriage is believed to be against the constitution, it is in fact not infringing on anyone s
rights to happiness. The right to be gay or homosexual is not infringed upon, but questions, is the right
to be married is for everyone (ProCon.org)? We find that both sides concede unions of some kind are
beneficial to the happiness of the individuals, but the fundamentalists and conservatives do not want
the definition of marriage to be changed. The definition of marriage is between a man and a woman by
God s law and the U.S. Some want to change that law and act more like the majority than the minority,
but the definition is clear. Why not allow them to marry

An Analysis Of Knock, Knock, It s Enoch
United division
Where there is division, there is also unity. One thing that divides some might be the same thing that
unites others. That could be sexual orientation, gender or race. The latter is the one Hanif Kureishi
explores in his essay Knock, Knock, it s Enoch which is about the effect of Powell, published in The
Guardian in December 2014. He implies that instead of looking for things that divide us, we should
stand strong together because in the end, we are all migrants from somewhere (p. 7, l. 11 12).
He has different methods to imply this. He focuses on engaging the reader to make them feel part of
this movement. This is done by his use of language. Kureishi is a well educated man with strong
opinions, which is reflected in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Racism did not solely come from Powell, but even people who the author adored like Eric Clapton.
The feeling that everyone is against you would be enough to make one feel powerless, but instead of
letting this devour him, he chose to let it empower him. Kureishi sees racism as an obstacle to
becoming one united people. He sees people like Powell as someone who will return repeatedly to
divide and create difference (p. 7, l. 9 10) so it is up to us to fight back and make sure we do not let
these people control us. Furthermore, he implies that racism stems from ignorance. He presents Powell
as someone who had taken refuge in books and scholarship for most of his life (p. 3, l. 28 29). The
quotation around scholarship is important as it indicates that Kureishi doubts he has one. Additionally,
the text suggests that Kureishi thinks that Powell was not clever, but he tried to make it seem like he
was by forever translating Herodotus (p. 4, l. 18). Saying that Powell is an ignorant fool indicates that
everyone following him was as well. This clearly states the author s opinion on racism, as he believes
one can only be racist if one is ignorant and oblivious to

Bailey And Casey
Question: Bailey and Casey spend a lot of time interacting online. They re Facebook friends and
follow each other on Twitter and Instagram, as well as playing online games together. Unbeknownst to
Casey, though, Bailey is not a human being. Bailey is a computer program. Given that Bailey is
maintaining this sort of complex relationship with not just Casey, but an entire network of online
friends (none of whom suspect that Bailey is not human), are we justified in concluding that Bailey
has a mind? Antithesis: No, Bailey does not have a mind. Objection 1: Because Bailey is a computer
program, she has no mind. The entirety of her existence has been created in a lab and could easily be
stored on a chip. Bailey s entity occupies no physical space, has no body, and has no actual brain. Due
to this, Bailey is not able to be conscious because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

besides Casey, Bailey does not have a mind because human beings are unable to do the same thing.
Response: Despite the fact that Bailey is not a living, breathing human being but rather a highly
emotional and intelligent entity, I respond that Bailey does have a mind. According to Rene Descartes,
a being s mind is vastly different from its matter. In Bailey s case, she has no physical body but is
apparently still capable of entertaining and conveying many human like emotions using her artificial
mind. The 2013 film Her explored much of this same territory in the sense that artificially intelligent
software programs are capable of having emotions and complex relationships with human beings.
Such a machine as Samantha in Her could have very well passed the Turing Test, which measures a
machine s ability to exhibit intelligent behavior indistinguishable from that of a human. Regardless,

Descriptive Essay About Vacation
During the summer of 2017, I went on vacation with my parents, and also with my best friend, Shae
Simon. We all went to an amusement park named Kings Island. Kings Island has always been one of
my favorite places to go, and it still is. Kings Island is so much fun that I ve been there five times in
the past two years! I have went with my parents most of the time, but also with friends, and other
family. Sometimes, I went for two days, others only one. I really love to go to Kings Island, it s just so
much fun to ride all of the rides, play all of the games, and eat all of the delicious food!
Our trip starts a day before we leave, Shae had spent the night with me, because we had to leave early
in the morning. We woke up the next morning at about 9 in the morning because it takes about three to
four hours to get to Mason, Ohio. Mason, Ohio is where Kings Island is, and also where our hotel was.
We set off for Mason, and about thirty minutes after we left, we already had to make a stop. We were
in Lapel, Indiana, and we stopped at a gas station. We all were already pretty thirsty and hungry, so we

We had about two and a half hours to three hours left in our ride, and we were already getting bored.

tone. The old man in the story is happy and welcomes/accepts his chances of dying. This is shown by
him saying things like he is ready for heaven and is finally done with picking apples. In line eight he
says, I am dosing off, he is indicating that he has finished everything planned and is ready for his
judgment. I believe that this tone sets up the theme of desires and the significance in life, but does not
necessarily complete it. As we keep reading through the poem, it starts to introduce a sad mood. He
starts accepting his fate when

Police officers are required to get 120 hours of training and the most specific required one is firearms

Human Genome Project Essay
Human Genome Project
Human curiosity is one of the most powerful engines that drive new knowledge, development,
advancements and life improvements today. Some 100,000 or 200,000 years ago Homo sapiens
emerged, and up to today humans are still searching for answers such as what we are and where we
came from.
For all of the diversity of the world s more than five billion people, full of creativity and
contradictions, every human mind and body is built and runs with fewer than 100,000 kinds of protein
molecules. And for each of the proteins, a single corresponding gene is responsible to ensure an
adequate and timely supply. Genes are often described as the biological blueprints or recipes for life
and are found in the DNA, carrying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But if we are ever to uncover the mysteries of carcinogenesis, if we are ever to know how
biochemistry contributes to mental illness, if we ever hope to really understand the processes of
growth and development, we must first have a detailed map of the genetic landscape. That s what the
HGP promises and what makes this international effort so breathtaking.
Human Genome Background and History
The idea of the HGP was initiated in 1977, when simple and efficient methods for sequencing DNA
were described. Before that time the possibility of sequencing the entire human genome was no more
than extreme wishful thinking. In the 1980 s it was becoming increasingly apparent to many scientists
that an understanding of basic biology would be greatly enhanced if the detailed structure of DNA was
understood. Over the last two decades, automated DNA sequencers have made the process of
obtaining the base by base sequence of DNA easier. In 1984, for the first time a meeting was
sponsored by the Department of Energy (DOE) to address the problem of detecting extremely low
levels of very rare changes in DNA (mutations) in humans exposed to radiation and other
environmental hazards. At that time, it was realized that the level of effort including the automation of
DNA analysis techniques would be similar to the requirements for sequencing the human genome.

negligence are: 1) Duty: Did the defendant owe plaintiff a legal obligation to exercise some level of

the foreseeable risks created by the defendant s conduct, was the act unreasonable under the
circumstances? 3) Factual Causation (Cause in Fact): Is there a causal connection between the
defendant s unreasonable act and the plaintiff s injuries? 4) Proximate Cause (Scope of Liability): Was

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Children s Era
The Children s Era by Margaret Sanger: A Rhetorical Analysis
Founder of Planned Parenthood, Margaret Sanger, in her speech at the 1925 birth control conference,
The Children s Era, explains the downfalls in American society when it comes to raising children.
Through this speech, Sanger is trying to further promote her nonprofit organization and display the
benefits of birth control. She appears to show compassionate characteristics towards children, more
specifically the future American children, as she adopts an urgent tone to encompass her listeners into
her ultimate goal, widespread, effective birth control methods.
Rhetorical questions are key in Sanger s speech as not all those at the conference completely agree
with Sanger s stance on birth control. There are undoubtedly people in the crowd and at the conference
for the sheer purpose of disagreeing with her and her colleagues. She stays on top of their rebuttals
with a barrage of rhetorical questions. Not only does she use rhetorical questions to address counter
arguments, but Sanger also uses questions like Why has so little been accomplished? in spite of all our
acknowledged love of children, all our generosity, all our good will, all the enormous spending of
millions on philanthropy and charities, all our warm hearted sentiment, all our incessant activity and
social consciousness? Why? to instill into her listeners minds the idea that even after all of these
efforts, the children s lives must still be made

Magazine Advertisements Have Unhealthy Effects On Young Women
Ali Olmstead
Mass media and Society
Mr. Hight
16 November 2014
Magazine Advertisements Have Unhealthy Effects On Young Women Advertisers often emphasize
sexuality and the importance of physical attractiveness in an attempt to sell products, but researchers
are concerned that this places pressure on women to focus more on their appearances. As stated in an
article from Body Image and Advertising, the average woman sees 400 to 600 advertisements per day
and by the time she is 17 years old, she has received over 250,000 commercial messages through the
media. While only 9% of advertisements have a direct statement about beauty, many more implicitly
emphasize the importance of beauty particularly those that target both women and girls.
(HealthyPlace) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Researchers who have done content analysis of girls magazines suggest that unrealistic beauty images
and focus on traditional femininity may damage girls self esteem. (Melissa A. Milkie. 191). Upon
years of looking in the mirror and not liking what they have seen, young women often become
unhappy to the point of depression when comparing themselves to those with a more developed body
image (Meg Kramer). Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and
loss of interest and affects how you feel, think, behave, and can lead to a variety of emotional and
physical problems. Statistics prove that the strongest risk factor for suicide is depression and 15% of
those who are clinically depressed die by suicide (ANAD). Constant unhappiness with appearance can
cause an individual to have a mental distortion of themselves thinking they are overweight or
unattractive and can be perceived as problematic if the individual tries to fix themselves. Although
some researchers believe that advertisers purposely normalize unrealistically thin bodies, in order to
create an unattainable desire that can drive product consumption, the result poses serious potential
harm to young women who view the images

Old Ben And Fox Hunt Comparison Essay
Some things can be very similar, but also very different. For example, stories can be different. They
have different plots and different authors, but they can also have similar elements and plot ideas. Some
examples of that in a story could be that a character makes a friend, or attempts to achieve a goal. In
this essay, I will be comparing and contrasting Old Ben and Fox Hunt , two stories with different plots
and similar elements. While some similarities are evident between Old Ben and Fox Hunt , the
differences are also distinct.
There are many similarities between Old Ben and Fox Hunt . One of them is the use of foreshadowing
in both narratives. Foreshadowing is when there are indications throughout the text that hint at events
to come. In Old Ben , it is foreshadowed that the snake will die in the end. In Fox Hunt , it is
foreshadowed that Lee is the fox spirit. Another similarity is that the two stories both have main
characters that are either animals, or have animal characteristics, such as Ben from Old Ben , who is a
snake, and Andy, from Fox Hunt , who is part fox. A closing similarity is that both of the stories use
narrative structure. Narrative structure is when a narrative is arranged in chronological order. Looking
at these examples, we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conversely, there are also distinct differences. One of those differences is Fox Hunt using flashbacks
to tell a story. Flashbacks inform you of events that happened in the past. Old Ben does not use any
flashbacks at all. A second difference is that Old Ben transpires over a longer period of time; months
pass during the story. In Fox Hunt , the story only takes place over a few weeks. A concluding
difference is that Fox Hunt uses fantasy ideas, such as fox spirits, while Old Ben does not, and only
uses real life ideas. Therefore, Old Ben and Fox Hunt are quite different in many

Aligning IT with Business Strategy Essay
Is it smart for companies to invest heavily in information technology (IT)? Numerous studies indicate
that excessive IT spending will usually reduce company profits and slow productivity. According to an
article in the MIT Sloan Management Review, Avoiding the Alignment Trap in Information
Technology, IT can become a huge bottleneck to growth in companies if they focus on the wrong
remedies for their IT problems (Shpilberg, Berez, Puryear, Shah, 2007). The article first focuses on
Charles Schwab and its IT struggles during the early 2000 s. Then, it presents a study on 504
companies, and IT s effect on their revenue growth. Lastly, it covers the steps to ensure success in IT s
effectiveness. Charles Schwab is a Fortune 500 Company ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, aligning each department to a different system or standard doesn t work because a
company needs all departments functioning at the same pace and every department must rely on each
other. The largest group (about 75% of surveyed companies) spent the average amount on IT, but
growth was slightly below average (Shpilberg et al., 2007). Companies in the The Maintenance Zone
have IT systems that are less aligned to business objectives and are, as a result, less effective as a
whole. The authors state that the group treats IT more like plumbing, bumping along until something
bad happens. However, since the group s deviation of IT spending and revenue growth from the
average is minimal, the article doesn t put much focus on the The Maintenance Zone. The next group,
experiencing Well Oiled IT, were more focused on execution and effectiveness at getting IT projects
up and running (on a budget). They spent 15% below average on IT, yet revenue growth was 11%
above average (Shpilberg et al., 2007). Although the group s revenue growth was above average, the
companies just didn t spend enough on IT to maximize their potential. More specifically, they didn t
spend enough to align the effective IT systems to their business objectives. The final group of
companies, in the IT Enabled Growth zone, experienced the upside of keeping IT highly aligned

Elkhead Transportation Case Study
Elkhead Transportation Solution The city of Elkhead should implement the proposal regarding
expansion of light rail transit to address the increasing concerns with traffic congestion and population
growth. The light rail transit (LRT) system should be modernized because LRT is environmentally,
socially, and economically feasible. These three aspects, when all taken in to account, form the triple
bottom line; an important measuring stick within appropriate technology. Appropriate technology is
technology suitable to environmental, social, and economic conditions of the geographic area in which
it is to be applied. The triple bottom line s three factors decide how well a certain technology will be

Short term, the expansion will create many jobs through the need of construction and manufacturing
jobs to build the railway. Once the LRT is built, there is the need to employ drivers, maintenance staff,
and rail guards on a continuous basis. For comparison, the C Train in Calgary costs a mere $0.27 per
passenger, whereas Hamilton s current bus system costs $5.00 per passenger, and fares only cover half
of bus fees. These values would directly correlate to the costs Elkhead would have with these
respective systems. While this proposal is the most expensive up front, over time, it is the only
proposal that provides any monetary profit to Elkhead. Also, since a train can carry as many as 5 times
more passengers than a bus. To benefit Elkhead s economy, the city would gain money if the LRT
were implemented, compared to losing money every day with a busing

Embryonic Stem Cell Controversy
The controversy over stem cell research s use in the medical field is almost two decades old. So why
the sudden intense return of fierce political debates over an old issue? It s because President Obama
recently revoked the ban on stem cell research, as he believes it holds the potential to revolutionize the
medical industry in the years to come. As USA Today quoted him saying in March, after he stopped
restricting federal funding for stem cell research, At this moment, the full promise of stem cell

(http://www.juniorpolitics.com/) The fertility clinics, however, appear to be stem cell research
advocates favorite reference on how their work is ethical and humane in comparison. According to
Michael Kinsley, Time Magazine reporter, Embryonic stem cell studies are controversial because they
involve the destruction of human embryos. However, fertility clinics destroy far more human embryos
than stem cell research ever would, yet they are not controversial. (http://www.time.com) Pro stem
cell research scientists have found that citing fertility clinics as a similar field severely lessens the
educated opposition against their work. This is because most pro life advocates and mainstream
Christians are advocates for the use of fertility clinics to help struggling couples get pregnant. They
view fertility clinics as a place to help create life, not take it. In this, I speak from personal experience,
as many of my Christian friends and relatives have been in and out of fertility clinics throughout the
years, attempting to procreate a being to love, raise, and care for. In short, the debate boils down to the
ancient debate of whether or not a fetus or human embryo is a life or not. Pro life advocates say that

The Melian Dialogue Analysis
The Melian Dialogue has maintained significance for millennia because of its clarity, its honesty, and
its continued relevance, up to the modern day. When the Athenians did away with specious pretences
(Betts, 2017), they opened up a number of salient issues that have troubled decision makers from time
immemorial. Among these timeless questions, the Melian situation hinges on one: whether the
Lacedaemonians would come to their aid. In the general form, the Athenians phrase it as expediency
goes with security, while justice and honour cannot be followed without danger (Betts). For
contemporary purposes: a rational, international actor will not risk their own state security for an ally s
without a controlling, practical interest. As a corollary, the Athenians add that what an intending ally
trusts to, is not the goodwill of those who ask his aid, but a dedicated superiority of power for action
(Betts). In language less burdened by 2,500 years of translation: the ideological or moral justifications
for an alliance are superseded by the ability for the intervening partner to win the conflict. This paper
will examine relevant, contemporary theories and case studies to determine if the Athenians warnings
still hold true do allies only intervene in the interests of their own security? Or can other factors (e.g.
shared identities, common ideologies) overcome an actor s international inertia? Before applying
Thucydides questions to modern statecraft, it s necessary

The Great Debaters Analysis
The movie, The Great Debaters, takes place in the 1930s and explores the struggles of three students
from Wiley College s debate team. The first character introduced is the youngest student from the
team, 14 year old, James Farmer Jr. He is an ambitious young man who strives to live up to his father
s expectations. James struggles with fear throughout the movie. He is sheltered and does not
understand the severity of the racial conflict of the time. This trait is evident in the film in two key
scenes. The first is when his family is out for a drive and his father accidently hits a white man s pig.
James s father is very cautious during this interaction and James witnesses the incident from the car.
This interaction has a major impact on James and gives him a greater understanding of the racial
conflict. The second incident occurs when James is unsuccessful in his first debate. When given other
opportunities to debate, he questions himself and fears failure. This fear plays a role in the debate team
s future competitions. James s fear can be linked to Bandura s observational learning theory. He
observes how his father cowers down to the white farmers and learns that he too should fear whites.
Bandura s learning theory comes into play because James is learning his behavior through
observation. This fear of whites is instilled in him and is evident through out the movie. The second
link that can be made to Bandura is his theory of self efficacy. James is not given the

The Quiet American Movie Vs Book
Philip Noyce s version of Graham Greene s novel The Quiet American to film was a large success. It
stayed pretty close to the book, and kept the personalities of the character s the same. What I respected
about the movie was that the director chose to film in actual Vietnamese locations and without
compromise, boldly sticking to the novel by not letting the Americans come out of the story too
kindly. It was filmed greatly and he captured so many details of Vietnam. Brenden Fraiser and

He has negative outlook on what seems like everything. I personally had a hard time reading the book
because of the negativity from Fowler. Pyle in the book was the opposite. I was more interested in
Pyle because of his softer nature. What I like about Pyle is how he would stick up and defend Phuong
when Fowler made rude comments. Fowler said that Phuong was merely a beautiful tool for his sexual
pleasures. Pyle responded That s a dirty crack. I won t have her insulted. You have no right... (TQA,
Graham Greene, 1955, pg 78) This shows Pyle s passion and soft nature. Michael Caine is excellent as
Fowler in the movie. He plays an aging unmotivated but skilled reporter very good. On the other hand
Fowler in the film is a lot more vulnerable, especially as the film goes on, and his weaknesses begins
to show. The movie never shows Fowler telling Pyle how he feels about Phuong. He says that he is
detached but then becomes very involved in what is going on around him. With that action I feel it
shows that he does care about Phuong but doesn t know how to handle it. Thomas Fowler is a
complex character, and it is hard to compare him to his character in the book. The movie doesn t show
his personality and depth of character as the book does. The movie portrays him more likeable with
more dignity and less bitter. Fowler s character does still give us that deep sense of how the political
he is. Although I was disappointed because I feel they took a huge part of the book and tossed it out by

Examples Of Porter s Five Forces
Porter s Five Forces Model
Porter s Five Forces are the following: Potential entrants with their threat of entry; Buyers with
bargaining; Suppliers with their bargaining power; Threats of substitutes and Rivalry. I will describe
the Five Forces and how they are helpful in the international area. I will also discuss their current
applications and conclude with the limitations that this model has. The first force to discuss is the
supplier power. This force leads to buyer supplier relationships between firms and industries. When
suppliers are in a position of strength they have influence over the industry that provides raw
materials; their goal is to sell raw materials at a higher price in order to capture some of the industry s
profit. An example of this can be Jewelry stores holding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When new industry enters the market if throws of the balance, affecting competitions. In theory we
have a free market; meaning any firm can enter and exit the market at will. The reality it s just not that
simple due to barriers of entry. When profits are high many firms what to enter the market and over
time profits will decrease. When the profits begin to decrease then firms begin to exit the market.
Barriers are unique characteristic in the industry to reduce the rate of entry of new firms into the
market. One type of barrier is entry deterring pricing, this is when the price is kept relatively low to
discourage other firms from entering the market. Government barriers are those in with the
government create monopolies through regulations. An example of this type of barrier is the utility
market, in which the government rather have one company providing efficient service. Other barriers
are patents and assets specificity. Exit barriers keep a firm from leaving the markets. Examples can be
that they have specialized assets that difficult to liquidate, high exit cost and interrelated

  • 2. Beethoven s Fifth Symphony Beethoven s Fifth Symphony Beethoven s fifth symphony, composed in 1808, is a fantastic musical masterpiece. It sends you on a wild emotional rollercoaster for the entire thirty two minute length of the piece. The first movement is in sonata form, the second is in theme and variations form, the third is a scherzo and the last movement is also in sonata form. The ride begins with a first movement of chaos and suspense. The movement shifts back and forth between powerful dark dominant chords and motives and triumphant light lyrical melodies. The image that comes to mind is that of a chase in third person. The exposition starts off with a motive that is three short notes and one long one. It s forceful and dominant and it feels like it grabs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Moon is a Harsh Mistress That Dinkum Thinkum is the first of three sections in the book Moon is a Harsh Mistress. It is set in Luna City in the late 21st Century. Luna City is one of the colonies of the moon , made as a permanent exile for hard case criminals. It s made as a permanent exile because after remaining on luna for about a month, without aid, one physiology changes making it near impossible to for them to return to earth; So Luna s population is predominantly ex convicts and descendants of ex cons in domed cities. Mannie AKA Mannuel and the Professor go to Earth to plead Luna s case and embark on a world tour advertising the benefits of a free Luna, while urging various governments to build a catapult to transfer supplies to Luna in exchange for grain. Their proposals are rejected and they are imprisoned; but they are freed. Meanwhile on Luna, the news of Mannuel s arrest and the attempt to bribe him with the appointment of himself as Warden have unified the normally fractious Loonies. An election is held in which Mannie, Wyoh, and the Professor are elected. Tanstaafl ( There Ain t No Such Thing As A Free Lunch!) The Federated Nations on Earth send armies to destroy the Lunar revolution, but they were vanquished, with great loss of life, by the revolutionaries. The rumor is circulated that Mike s alter ego Adam Selene was among those killed, thus removing the need for him to appear in the flesh.A second attack destroys Mike s original catapult, but the Loonies have built a secondary smaller one in a secret location, and with Mannie acting as its on site commander, the Loonies continue to attack Earth until it concedes Luna s independence. Professor Bernardo de la Paz, as leader of the nation, proclaims victory to the gathered crowds; but collapses and dies. Mannie takes control, but he and Wyoh eventually withdraw from politics ... • 4. Visualizing Nutrition Before I was able to describe the similarities and differences of the diets, I first needed to figure out what exactly they were. The DASH eating plan as intentions to lower hypertension, USDA food patterns were created for citizens to follow their dietary guidelines, and the Mediterranean diet is not a diet, if is a lifestyle (Wiley, Visualizing Nutrition) that one will normally continue with. Some similarities between the diets are that they all want you to intake the correct amount of food, no more no less, and they all focus on very similar types of food. While reading our Visualizing nutrition book, I learned that all of these eating styles they are all very nutrient dense styles of eating, including fish, other seafoods and proteins, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of these common claims say promise of fast weight loss quantities and imitations, promotes specific food combinations, and no need to be physically active. (WordsonWellness). You never want to all of the sudden and dramatically lose weight, it is far better to gradually lose weight. FAD diets that avoid eating multiple food groups take away the vitamins that the human body needs to survive and be healthy. FAD diets that tell you to eat at certain times are also incorrect, you should eat when you feel hungry but only eat until you are satisfied and not full. Lastly, diets that say you do not need any physical activity may be shedding weight off of your body, but you are not gaining muscle and becoming stronger, in the long term you may even feel weaker. Many people who become apart of the FAD diet community think that their health will improve, in some cases this is inaccurate. Based on what I have learned in past nutrition classes and my own personal experience they can actually be very bad for your health, not just the inside of your body, but the outside too. You may notice muscle and even hair loss. I had a friend who started losing her hair when starting a very common FAD diet. You will also notice deficiencies in your nutrition especially if you cut out carbs because they are the main source of our energy. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Living In A Residential Community Analysis Living in a residential community seems pretty similar to living in a dorm in college, which was not a problem for me. Pros are being able to meet new people and having a stronger sense of independence. Also, because you re surrounded by other DIS students, everyone is in a similar situation and is probably experiencing the same concerns; it would be nice to have other students to talk with about similar struggles or triumphs. The biggest cons would probably be feeling like you have no time to yourself as well as possibly not interacting enough with Danish locals. As a roommate, I m a mostly clean and quiet person. I m also a heavy sleeper and I love to sleep in but I can also rally pretty early if I need to. My greatest contribution to my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Analysis Of The Book The Way Green By John Green Paper Towns is The New York Times Bestseller, Edgar Award, and Printz Award winning novel written by John Green. The way Green organizes the book is well simple and well planned and is simple to follow. The novel is divided into three sections that organize the growth of the story and plot. I liked the way this was done because it keeps the reader alert and more involved in the novel. Margo and Quentin, the two main characters in the novel, are childhood friends who gradually drift apart as they grow older. Everything changes between Margo and Quentin when they discover a dead man s body. This event transforms their lives and Margo s imagination. Margo disappears one day after spending a night filled with bold risks with Quentin, and he is convinced that Margo left him clues to help him find her. Symbolism is shown throughout the book that helps convey many different meanings of life; and two examples of symbolism include strings and paper towns. One of the many symbols in the book are strings. This symbol is connected to several people in the novel and one of them is a dead man named Robert Joyner. When Margo and Quentin first find the dead body, Margo is not afraid to approach it while Quentin is scared and wants to leave. They later find out that Robert Joyner committed suicide but do not know why. Margo later hypothesizes that, Maybe all the strings inside him broke (Green 8). The strings represent the sanity of a person and the hope of keeping oneself ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Slavery Of The North And South Between 1700 And 1799 In the Western countries including America, most of the nations incorporated provisions for slavery within their structure of governance. As slavery took roots in the North and South between 1700 and 1799, it influenced political, social and economic structures of the two regions throughout the 18th century. Towards the end of 17th century, European masters embarked on granting independence to their colonies. As the European colonies in the North gained independence, residents of the independent states acquired cheap land that was left by their colonial masters. As workers were needed to work on the land and build new towns, some of the families sold some of their children to provide labor (Goldin, Cameron Balarajan, 2011). Furthermore, during the time of colonization, American colonies in the North recognized compulsory labor; thus prompting most of the masters to hire fellow Americans or Europeans as laborers. Although some of the Africans provided labor in the North during this time, the colonial government did not recognize perpetual servitude for the Africans. However, with the decline in the number of laborers, the colonial government was quick to pass a law that contributed to the enslavement of Africans and their children residing in the North. Furthermore, by 1700, most of the states in the North adopted laws aimed at regulating slaves and servants (Morris, 1999). According to research, the Dutch and English masters played a significant role in enslaving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Italian Influence On The Renaissance When contemplating on the Renaissance and its place in history, immediately reflections of Leonardo da Vinci s Mona Lisa, Michelangelo s David, sculptures of human anatomy, philosophical treatises on the human condition, and among others populate the mind, but how did this output of great work manage to seemingly appear almost simultaneously? Firstly, the Renaissance a French word literally meaning rebirth was an age of cultural enrichment and achievement where the arts, sciences, and philosophy flourished largely due to the revival and revisitation of ancient Greek and roman texts. Its period is generally dated from the early 14th to the mid 17th centuries beginning in Italy. Italy spawned the Renaissance due to its great wealth giving ... In figure 1, titled The Plaque of Acrobats, is a painting by the French artist Pierre Penicaud is clearly influenced by humanistic and naturalistic thought [1]. The topic of this exceptional plaque is acrobatics; however if we were to widen our scope one can understand the physical and mental agility that s beneath the goal of brilliant skill. Acrobatics allow for the showcasing of male agility and strength highlighting the humanistic quality for pursuit of excellence. The use of grisaille accentuates the abstract aspects of the design at the expense of realism. The manipulation of anatomy for aesthetic effect is characteristic of the mannerist style [2]. Naturalism is often confused with realism , a style of art that focuses on realities and truth, rather than the ideals and aesthetics. The difference between Realism and Naturalism is that realism tends to be preoccupied with the content of the art rather than technique or methodology. This means that the primary focus is on the subject who or what rather than how it is created. Typically, realist artists depict common people going about their ordinary lives, rather than ... • 9. My Father Speech Dreams From My Father by the well known author Barack Obama was one of the most diversified presidents The United States has ever seen. His life began, being born in Honolulu, Hawaii then growing up in Indonesia and eventually living in the middle of Chicago; his upbringing is nothing of the ordinary. Barack s memoir reveals his encounters, stories, and feelings about becoming an African American leader in the United States of America. His diction and use of precise language helps captivate the reader into understanding the struggles he had faced throughout his life. Barack had a strong devotion to helping the young kids of Chicago. He wanted to give them a life, a chance at something. His discussions often got pretty heated with other leaders in the community over this issue as well as many other. No, I m just asking you a question. You say you re tired, the same way most folks out here are tired. So I m just trying to figure out what s going to happen to these boys. Who s going to make sure they get a fair shot? The alderman? The social workers? The gangs? (172). This is just an example of the several outbursts Barack had while facing opposition throughout his community. The way in which he calls to action, allows the reader to question his/her own involvement in their own community . It lets the reader reflect upon their own choices and makes them realize that they have a commitment to uphold to their community. Furthermore, the way Barack is able to captivate a ... • 11. Tale Of Genji Critical Lens I think that one of the main points for the first source, The Tale Of Genji, is that Japanese literature can be just as important and masterful as European/Western and that The Tale of Genji shows that by being amazingly written. I see that in this quote: If nothing else, the publication of this new translation informs (or reminds) readers that there is a Japanese novel out there as complex and masterful as any published in the West. That it was written 1,000 years ago in the Far East, and by a woman, makes us question our long standing ideas about the roots of the modern novel . This quote shows that because It says that we might need to question our ideas about the roots of the novel. That is important to the theme because it s saying that ... The Gay Marriage Debate Compromise The Gay Marriage Debate Compromise Although Procon.org and Family Research Council.org (FRC.org) disagree about if or whether gay marriage should be legal in the U.S.; they do recognize the fundamental right to be married, and the right to be homosexual. They do however disagree on the definition of marriage and its application to homosexuality has been challenged. It is possible that Procon.org and FRC.org which built upon their common goals and concerns about gay marriage; that they might be able to come to terms with a compromising solution to the relatively new problem in our so society. (Family Research Council.org). Fact not fiction, children raised without a father are more likely to be in the penal system and more promiscuous. If we take the concept of homosexual family and child raising out of the question, we are left with the marriage aspect still. We do not find homosexual marriage in nature because a species will not survive, is one way to look at it. It goes against God, is another way to look at the big picture (ProCon.org). Most of the arguments stem from the fundamental rights to be happy and pursue life, liberty, and justice. Those same rights are derived from our nation s belief in a Judeo Christian God and are not found in all countries around the earth. While denying same sex marriage is believed to be against the constitution, it is in fact not infringing on anyone s rights to happiness. The right to be gay or homosexual is not infringed upon, but questions, is the right to be married is for everyone (ProCon.org)? We find that both sides concede unions of some kind are beneficial to the happiness of the individuals, but the fundamentalists and conservatives do not want the definition of marriage to be changed. The definition of marriage is between a man and a woman by God s law and the U.S. Some want to change that law and act more like the majority than the minority, but the definition is clear. That could be sexual orientation, gender or race. The latter is the one Hanif Kureishi explores in his essay Knock, Knock, it s Enoch which is about the effect of Powell, published in The Guardian in December 2014. He implies that instead of looking for things that divide us, we should stand strong together because in the end, we are all migrants from somewhere (p. 7, l. 11 12). He has different methods to imply this. He focuses on engaging the reader to make them feel part of this movement. This is done by his use of language. Racism did not solely come from Powell, but even people who the author adored like Eric Clapton. The feeling that everyone is against you would be enough to make one feel powerless, but instead of letting this devour him, he chose to let it empower him. Kureishi sees racism as an obstacle to becoming one united people. He sees people like Powell as someone who will return repeatedly to divide and create difference (p. 7, l. 9 10) so it is up to us to fight back and make sure we do not let these people control us. Furthermore, he implies that racism stems from ignorance. He presents Powell as someone who had taken refuge in books and scholarship for most of his life (p. 3, l. 28 29). The quotation around scholarship is important as it indicates that Kureishi doubts he has one. Additionally, the text suggests that Kureishi thinks that Powell was not clever, but he tried to make it seem like he was by forever translating Herodotus (p. 4, l. 18). Saying that Powell is an ignorant fool indicates that everyone following him was as well. This clearly states the author s opinion on racism, as he believes one can only be racist if one is ignorant and oblivious to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Given that Bailey is maintaining this sort of complex relationship with not just Casey, but an entire network of online friends (none of whom suspect that Bailey is not human), are we justified in concluding that Bailey has a mind? Human Genome Background and History The idea of the HGP was initiated in 1977, when simple and efficient methods for sequencing DNA were described. Before that time the possibility of sequencing the entire human genome was no more than extreme wishful thinking. In the 1980 s it was becoming increasingly apparent to many scientists that an understanding of basic biology would be greatly enhanced if the detailed structure of DNA was understood. Over the last two decades, automated DNA sequencers have made the process of obtaining the base by base sequence of DNA easier. In 1984, for the first time a meeting was sponsored by the Department of Energy (DOE) to address the problem of detecting extremely low levels of very rare changes in DNA (mutations) in humans exposed to radiation and other environmental hazards. At that time, it was realized that the level of effort including the automation of DNA analysis techniques would be similar to the requirements for sequencing the human genome. ... Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest and affects how you feel, think, behave, and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems. Statistics prove that the strongest risk factor for suicide is depression and 15% of those who are clinically depressed die by suicide (ANAD). Another similarity is that the two stories both have main characters that are either animals, or have animal characteristics, such as Ben from Old Ben , who is a snake, and Andy, from Fox Hunt , who is part fox. It s because President Obama recently revoked the ban on stem cell research, as he believes it holds the potential to revolutionize the medical industry in the years to come. As USA Today quoted him saying in March, after he stopped restricting federal funding for stem cell research, At this moment, the full promise of stem cell research remains unknown and should not be overstated. Scientists believe these tiny cells may have the potential to help us understand, and possibly cure, some of our most devastating diseases and conditions. The body s master cells are ... Now, given the choice of completely wasting the life or using it in order to further research, I d pick research. (http://www.juniorpolitics.com/) The fertility clinics, however, appear to be stem cell research advocates favorite reference on how their work is ethical and humane in comparison. According to Michael Kinsley, Time Magazine reporter, Embryonic stem cell studies are controversial because they involve the destruction of human embryos. However, fertility clinics destroy far more human embryos than stem cell research ever would, yet they are not controversial. (http://www.time.com) Pro stem cell research scientists have found that citing fertility clinics as a similar field severely lessens the educated opposition against their work. This is because most pro life advocates and mainstream Christians are advocates for the use of fertility clinics to help struggling couples get pregnant. They view fertility clinics as a place to help create life, not take it. In this, I speak from personal experience, as many of my Christian friends and relatives have been in and out of fertility clinics throughout the years, attempting to procreate a being to love, raise, and care for. In short, the debate boils down to the ancient debate of whether or not a fetus or human embryo is a life or not. Pro life advocates say that human fetuses are absolutely, ... • 34. The Melian Dialogue Analysis The Melian Dialogue has maintained significance for millennia because of its clarity, its honesty, and its continued relevance, up to the modern day. When the Athenians did away with specious pretences (Betts, 2017), they opened up a number of salient issues that have troubled decision makers from time immemorial. Among these timeless questions, the Melian situation hinges on one: whether the Lacedaemonians would come to their aid. In the general form, the Athenians phrase it as expediency goes with security, while justice and honour cannot be followed without danger (Betts). For contemporary purposes: a rational, international actor will not risk their own state security for an ally s without a controlling, practical interest. As a corollary, the Athenians add that what an intending ally trusts to, is not the goodwill of those who ask his aid, but a dedicated superiority of power for action (Betts). In language less burdened by 2,500 years of translation: the ideological or moral justifications for an alliance are superseded by the ability for the intervening partner to win the conflict. This paper will examine relevant, contemporary theories and case studies to determine if the Athenians warnings still hold true do allies only intervene in the interests of their own security? Or can other factors (e.g. shared identities, common ideologies) overcome an actor s international inertia? Before applying Thucydides questions to modern statecraft, it s necessary ... • 35. The Great Debaters Analysis The movie, The Great Debaters, takes place in the 1930s and explores the struggles of three students from Wiley College s debate team. The first character introduced is the youngest student from the team, 14 year old, James Farmer Jr. He is an ambitious young man who strives to live up to his father s expectations. James struggles with fear throughout the movie. He is sheltered and does not understand the severity of the racial conflict of the time. This trait is evident in the film in two key scenes. The first is when his family is out for a drive and his father accidently hits a white man s pig. James s father is very cautious during this interaction and James witnesses the incident from the car. This interaction has a major impact on James and gives him a greater understanding of the racial conflict. The second incident occurs when James is unsuccessful in his first debate. When given other opportunities to debate, he questions himself and fears failure. This fear plays a role in the debate team s future competitions. James s fear can be linked to Bandura s observational learning theory. He observes how his father cowers down to the white farmers and learns that he too should fear whites. Bandura s learning theory comes into play because James is learning his behavior through observation. This fear of whites is instilled in him and is evident through out the movie. The second link that can be made to Bandura is his theory of self efficacy. James is not given the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. The Quiet American Movie Vs Book Philip Noyce s version of Graham Greene s novel The Quiet American to film was a large success. It stayed pretty close to the book, and kept the personalities of the character s the same. What I respected about the movie was that the director chose to film in actual Vietnamese locations and without compromise, boldly sticking to the novel by not letting the Americans come out of the story too kindly. It was filmed greatly and he captured so many details of Vietnam. Brenden Fraiser and Michael Caine did an amazing job portraying their characters. The first difference that you can see is that the book was in first person and the movie was in third. This being said, there were scenes added into the movie that was not in the book. I wasn t disappointed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He has negative outlook on what seems like everything. I personally had a hard time reading the book because of the negativity from Fowler. Pyle in the book was the opposite. I was more interested in Pyle because of his softer nature. What I like about Pyle is how he would stick up and defend Phuong when Fowler made rude comments. Fowler said that Phuong was merely a beautiful tool for his sexual pleasures. Pyle responded That s a dirty crack. I won t have her insulted. You have no right... (TQA, Graham Greene, 1955, pg 78) This shows Pyle s passion and soft nature. Michael Caine is excellent as Fowler in the movie. He plays an aging unmotivated but skilled reporter very good. On the other hand Fowler in the film is a lot more vulnerable, especially as the film goes on, and his weaknesses begins to show. The movie never shows Fowler telling Pyle how he feels about Phuong. He says that he is detached but then becomes very involved in what is going on around him. With that action I feel it shows that he does care about Phuong but doesn t know how to handle it. Thomas Fowler is a complex character, and it is hard to compare him to his character in the book. The movie doesn t show his personality and depth of character as the book does. The movie portrays him more likeable with more dignity and less bitter. Fowler s character does still give us that deep sense of how the political he is. Although I was disappointed because I feel they took a huge part of the book and tossed it out by changing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Examples Of Porter s Five Forces Porter s Five Forces Model Porter s Five Forces are the following: Potential entrants with their threat of entry; Buyers with bargaining; Suppliers with their bargaining power; Threats of substitutes and Rivalry. I will describe the Five Forces and how they are helpful in the international area. I will also discuss their current applications and conclude with the limitations that this model has. The first force to discuss is the supplier power. This force leads to buyer supplier relationships between firms and industries. When suppliers are in a position of strength they have influence over the industry that provides raw materials; their goal is to sell raw materials at a higher price in order to capture some of the industry s profit. In theory we have a free market; meaning any firm can enter and exit the market at will. The reality it s just not that simple due to barriers of entry. When profits are high many firms what to enter the market and over time profits will decrease. When the profits begin to decrease then firms begin to exit the market. Barriers are unique characteristic in the industry to reduce the rate of entry of new firms into the market. One type of barrier is entry deterring pricing, this is when the price is kept relatively low to discourage other firms from entering the market. Government barriers are those in with the government create monopolies through regulations. An example of this type of barrier is the utility market, in which the government rather have one company providing efficient service. Other barriers are patents and assets specificity.
