Essay about Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
Many women that become pregnant are unaware of the consequences of drinking alcohol during
pregnancy and the damaging effects it has on the fetus. When a woman who is pregnant drinks
alcohol, the baby is also drinking alcohol. Furthermore, the amount of alcohol that is consumed by
the mother is the same amount the baby receives through the mother s placenta. Many doctors
advise that it is okay for the mother to have an occasional drink, however, some women cannot stop
at one drink, and they continue to drink in excess throughout their pregnancy. Still, even moderate
consumption of alcohol is not wise, because it is still unknown how much alcohol the fetus is able
to tolerate without potential harm. Consequently, a fetus that has been... Show more content on

During the last trimester of pregnancy, the fetus lungs and liver are maturing, and the unborn baby
s liver is unable to handle any level of alcohol. At these stages it is critical for the mother to refrain
from drinking alcohol, in order to ensure the health of the baby. Some effects to the fetus of
drinking alcohol during pregnancy are: prenatal growth retardation, specifically, facial deformities,
and a tendency to be smaller in weight, length, and head circumference. In addition, alcohol causes
neurodevelopment defects and central nervous system dysfunction to the unborn baby. FAS infants
are also at an increased risk for many common birth defects, including congenial heart disease,
abnormalities of the urinary tract and genitals, and spina bifida. Although these abnormalities are
not specific to FAS, they do assist in the diagnosis of the problem.
Many recent studies are claiming that alcohol damages some parts of the brain more than others,
targeting particular biochemical pathways vital to the development, function, migration, and
survival of certain nerve cells. Further research is being done to help find ways that will block
some of alcohol s harmful effects on the fetus. One study has identified specific effects on
molecules that regulate development and others that participate in cell signaling (Christensen 3).

TFSA Vs Rrsp Essay
A RRSP is a Registered Retirement Savings Plan that is an account set up to save for retirement
whereas a TFSA is a Tax Free Savings Account that is set up for any type of savings goal. They
both differ in their own ways however, both offer tax advantages to help one reach their savings
goals.
First, in order to make contributions to a RRSP one needs earned income on the other hand for a
TFSA one does not. Also, another key difference between the two plans are that RRSP contributions
are tax deductible as you can deduct your contribution from the income you report on the tax
return. A TFSA is the exact inverse, as you cannot deduct your contribution on your tax return.
Furthermore, when it comes to withdrawals, both of the plans are opposite once again as TFSA
withdrawals are tax free and RRSP withdrawals aren t tax free. Also another difference would be
the age limit for making contributions, with a RRSP one has to stop making contributions at the
age of 71, whereas in a TFSA there is no age restriction, one could make contributions for how ever
long they want. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now when it comes to choosing one plan and making the most from it, it depends on a few key
factors including tax situations, when your planning on taking out the money, and individual
circumstances. The best path would be to contribute to both, but most citizens can t afford that.
The way I look at it, RRSP is more long term (10 years or more), and TFSA is more short term (1
10 years). If the client is a young adult and is saving for an investment within the next 10 years,
the client should invest in a TFSA. If the client however is older, someone who maybe is a full
adult, perhaps over the age of 28 should look to invest in a RRSP, as that person will need money
once he or she has retired. Plus, if the person is being taxed heavily, its always good to get that

Usefulness And Effectiveness Of The Employee Voice
Literature Review
This Literature Review will discuss the usefulness and effectiveness of the employee voice, the use
of engagement surveys, what employee engagement is, and examine the links between and the
affect of the psychological contract, and its similarities to motivation, and to what impact do line
managers have on engagement overall, which relates to the research objectives for this report.
As defined by Daniels (2010) a combination of commitment to the organisation and its values and a
willingness to help out colleagues (organisational citizenship). It goes beyond job satisfaction and is
not simply motivation. Engagement is something the employee has to offer, it cannot be required
as part of the employment contract. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are listened to and the employees see that their opinions count and make a difference.
Employees speak out and challenge management where appropriate. A strong sense of listening
and of responsiveness permeates the organisation, enabled by effective communication Gennard
at el (2014) p.329. Although Marchington (2010) argues traditionally, voice has been used
primarily in relation to union based and broader forms of participation, rather than direct
employee involvement, because this was seen as the principal way in which workers could gain
influence at work However the CIPD suggest that there are some benefits to directly
communication with staff and allowing for an employee voice. Employee voice is the means by
which employees communicate their views on employment and organisational issues to their
employers CIPD (2016). Marchington (2010) also claims more recently, analysis has shifted to
examine non union models of indirect voice. Overall the employee voice has influence as
suggested by the CIPD ( 2016) It s also seen as a central pillar of employee engagement. It is
difficult to assess in any useful way the level of employee engagement without systematically
consulting the employees themselves (Gennard at el 2014 p.317) As an attempt to address
engagement amongst employees, according to XpertHR (2016) Employers can use engagement
surveys to measure levels of engagement, which can help them to identify

The Field Of American Studies
In this essay, I will examine the field of American Studies and attempt to explain its ever changing
definition. I will take the reader through the origins of American Studies and describe the events
that led to changes in the discipline.
The scholars in American Studies are constantly seeking to understand the practices by individuals
and groups and their history of origin. Scholars struggle to understand how values and beliefs shape
social and political realities within the U.S. and other countries. American Studies is an
interdisciplinary study that explores cultures of the United States as well as their transnational
exchanges and impact.
In the words of Staurt Hall, he finds in American culture and in America s capacity to live with
difference the best illustration of a continuous dialect between the local and the global, between the
insular and the transnational. He defines culture as an embodiment of the best that has been
thought and said in a society. It is the sum of the great ideas as represented in the classic works of
painting, music, and philosophy that represent culture. (Hall, 9) Hall also has observed U.S.
dominance in communication and described America as the common factor of globalization.
The field of American Studies began in what may be called a single beginning with multiple
origins. The beginning of the American Studies Association in late 1951 and early 1952 and the
beginning of the journal, American Quarterly at the University of Minnesota in

Nietzsche s View On Religion
To answer to question if Nietzsche would know really what is god were analyzed all 197
incidences of the term isolated or in derivation combination in The AntiChrist. [FNTAC F.

The translator s point of view is that Nietzsche argues against Christianity, that is:
1. The abandonment of the purely moral view of life;
2. The rehabilitation of instinct;
3. The dethronement of weakness and shyness as ideals;
4. The renunciation of the whole abracadabra of dogmatic religion;
5. The extermination of false aristocracies (of the priest, of the politician, of the plutocrats);
6. The rebirth of the healthy, noble innocence that was the Greek man.
Nevertheless, one can raise several questions: against which Christianity Nietzsche rebels? If he

Survey of Art History
Survey of Art History II
Man Ray like many other artists did not care to have his personal life shown in his art. He
wanted to be viewed and recognized for his work which included sculptures, paintings, and
photography. Man Ray was mostly influenced by Stieglitz s photographs. Man Ray used a
similar style to Stieglitz. He captured images that created an unvarnished look at the photos
subject. Man Ray discovered a new way to create his photos; by accident in his work room he
discovered how to manipulate objects in his photos on pieces of photosensitive paper. In the year
1914, at a seminal exhibition, Man Ray introduced himself to African art. Man Ray did this at the
Alfred Stieglitz 291 Gallery. Man Ray s photograph Noire et Blanche became an icon for modern
photography. Although this was his most famous and widely known piece, Man Ray s less
known work made a greater impact and influence on African art. Photographs with African art
pieces began to flourish greatly after Man Ray s break through with his Noire et Blanche
photograph. These photographs shed light on many day to day issues such as: issues of race,
identity, sex, separatism, and disenfranchisement. Noire et Blanche shows Kiki Man Ray s
companion with her eyes closed and her head sideways on a table in a very relaxed manner. With
her left hand, Kiki is holding, an African mask known as a Baule Gba Gba mask. The mask is held

Women s Pavilion at the Columbian Exposition Essay example
The Women s Pavilion The Columbian Exposition was notable for its impressive architecture and
large international attendance. Of particular importance was the Women s Pavilion. The first of
its kind to have been designed by a female architect, it revealed much about the social plight of
women at that time, and the need for further progress in the movement for equal rights. While its
existence did not trigger significant changes for the Women s Movement, this pavilion was
certainly a promising first step that would set a precedent for women s involvement in later years.
All aspects of women s involvement in the Chicago fair were overseen by the Board of Lady
Managers. This governing body, the first of its kind, had authority over... Show more content on

Those that were in the field also received little public acknowledgement. At this Philadelphia fair,
November 7th was chosen was women s day , based on the assumption that the women should
take advantage of the fair while the men were casting their ballots. This angered the suffragettes,
who proceeded to boycott the fair. The women s pavilion placed ...particular emphasis on those
activities generally acknowledged to be within the women s sphere with little information in the
areas of science and discovery. (Greenhalgh, 175) Most of the art work done by women was
nowhere to be found in the women s pavilion, but instead was in the main Fine Arts building.
While the Board of Lady Managers was supposed to have general charge and management of all
interests of women in connection with the Exposition , they were denied a say in the selection of
the actual architect. (Ralph, 170) This decision instead was made by a board of men. In order to
select the architect, work was examined from fourteen distinguished women in the field. It is noted
that none of these applicants was over the age of twenty five. The woman who was chosen was

Overview of the Tomb of Qin Shi Huang Di
The Tomb of Qin Shi Huang Di Introduction: The Qin Dynasty, under its first ruler, Qin Shi
Huang di, would unite China as a single entity for the first time. His rule, which lasted from
221BC to 210BC, would bring together various warring factions under a single imperial authority.
In doing so, this imperial authority would also attribute to itself an incredible degree of divine
importance as perhaps is best demonstrated by the tomb constructed in his honor. The Qin Dynasty
is remarkable for the ego and ambition of its emperor. Qin Shi Huang di may be demonstrated as a
man of unparalleled conceit, with the extent of artifact evidence notable at his burial site standing
in direct competition with that of any pharaoh or European king. That Qin was the first ruler to
unify the parameters of what is now modern China, it may not be seen as so unreasonable that
much of the artwork notable from his time was that which was built in tribute to him. Indeed, the
beginnings of the Great Wall of China would come about in this time, and would be as much a
testament to the remarkable vanity of Qin s ambitions as to the strategic justification for the
erection of the enormous structure. However, the Tomb of Qin Shi Huang Di, contrary to the
security induced Great Wall, remains shrouded in mystery even to the present day. The plans
behind its construction, the incredible detail and the sheer cruelty of what is implied by its many
chambers give continued life to archeological speculation.

Essay On Tn Ready
State Should Replace TN Ready In recent years the state of Tennessee has experienced many
problems with their new standardized testing called TN Ready. The new TN Ready standardized
testing is unbeneficial to students and teachers. In the best interest of students and teachers the
state should abolish TN Ready, and replace with the ACT Aspire and the ACT. Ever since the fall
of 2015, when TN Ready began the state has experienced many problems, some of which still exist
two years later. The original plan was to have students testonline from the get go, but that was
halted when the system students were using crashed. After the computer system crashed the state

Bottom line is the state should not have begun a new way of testing student and teacher
performance until they were certain that teachers and students would experience no problems
during testing. Since a new test in and of itself is hard enough for teachers and students to learn
how to do, the transition from TCAP to TN Ready should have been smooth from the get go, but
it was not. The state should abolish TN Ready and move to the ACT Aspire for grades three
through ten and the ACT for grade eleven. Using the ACT Aspire and the ACT can serve many
purpose. The first and perhaps the biggest benefit of using the ACT Aspire and the ACT is that it
can show not only how well students are performing state wide but also how well they are
performing nationally. There is also more practice resources out for ACT whereas there is hardly
any for educators or students to use for TN Ready. Finally using the ACT Aspire and the ACT
would better prepare students for college admissions, because teachers would be able to focus
instruction solely on an exam that is comparable to that of the ACT. Using the ACT Aspire and the
ACT is a win win situation for everyone.
Those opposed to using the ACT Aspire or the ACT would argue that it does not use some free
response questions like that of TN Ready, and that it does not

The Development Of Drug Addiction Essay
Undoubtedly, a huge role in the women abuses plays by the biological characteristics of the
development of drug addiction. The most important are features of a constitution and hormonal
difference, which significantly affect the pharmacokinetics of drugs (NIAA, 2015). In general,
women have a lower activity of hepatic enzymes related to drug metabolism. Resulting from the
body weight and a higher ratio of fat tissue in relation to the muscle, there is a higher concentration
of surfactant in the blood of women compared to men even while receiving similar doses of
substance. A larger amount of adipose tissue significantly increases the absorption of lipophilic
surfactants (PCP, marijuana) and their subsequent slow release. The action of drugs on the central
nervous system also depends significantly on the human sexual affiliation. It is connected with the
central mechanisms of neurotransmission mesocorticolimbic system in women, leading to a higher
concentration of dopamine (Scott, 2015). In conclusion, it can be said that females are less resistant
to the drugs, which leads to the faster habituation to complications when trying to overcome the
addiction.
Another aspect to highlight lies in the scopes of the development of alcohol or drug abuse is the
genetical factors of inheritance and genetic factors. Of course, there are numerous debates in the
discussion labelled as nature or nurture, but the inheritance cannot be ignored. One of the research
establishes that alcoholism

Comparing Dorian Gray And Neil Jordan s Interview With A
Oscar Wilde s The Picture of Dorian Gray and Neil Jordan s Interview with a Vampire are gothic
narrations that incorporate the themes of sensuality and hedonism. Although the texts do not
contain any explicit statements of homoeroticism, the suggestive narration, allusions and
imagery, camera angles and music highlight the homoerotic feelings between men. While Wilde
does not mention any homosexual acts explicitly, the element of homoeroticism is described
within the competition for Dorian s attention. Dorian is described through allusions to be
likened to Adonis; a creature who looks as if he were made of ivory and rose leaves. (Lord
Henry Wotten) Adonis, a representation of youthful idealism is a symbolic gesture of Dorian s
youthful sensuality. Lord Henry and Basil Hallward praise Dorian s youthful demeanour, Basil
commenting as long as I live, the personality of Dorian Gray will dominate me. (Basil Hallward)
Whilst Basil is rejected, Dorian wishes to emulate Lord Henry, which in turn, rouses Lord Henry
from his characteristic languor to a desire to influence Dorian, a process that is itself a sublimated
expression of homosexuality. The older gentlemen s longing for Dorian and his admiration of them

For hundreds of years if anyone wanted to sail west from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean, they
had no choice but to take a exceptionally time consuming journey. Before the Panama Canal
existed, whomever wanted to transport goods, had to go all the way around South America, or
the Cape Horn as they would call it. This resulted in many lives being lost and cargos and ships
being lost to the sea. People became tired of it and Panama became an attraction to avoid sailing
all the way around South America. Vasco Nunez de Balboa was the man that made the dream

and faster to transport goods from land to land. In order to get this canal to do its job, locks had

The locks were built to hold the greates oceangoing ship. These locks lift or lower from a pool

Then water is poured into the basin. The ship floats up as the water level rises. When the ship is

Child Labor In Ghana
Child Labor: Gold Mining in Ghana It is estimated that one in every seven children, worldwide,

less than an average person who makes minimum wage. Child labor is not only happening here
in the United States of America but is also happening in places such as Asia, Africa, the Middle
East, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and in some parts of Africa. For example, in Ghana many
kids are getting exposed to a toxic chemical named Mercury. Mercury is harmful to adults but it is
extremely dangerous and potentially fatal if children are exposed to it. Mercury can cause attacks

The Nine Noble Virtues Of Grendel Vs. Beowulf
Working Title Grendel and Beowulf are being compared to the nine noble virtues. The nine noble
virtues explains what a hero should be and what characteristics make them noble. The
characteristics are what you expect from a hero. Courage, Truth, Honor, Fidelity, Discipline,
Hospitality, Self Reliance, and Perseverance are the Nine Noble Virtues. According to the Vikings,
these traits are what make a hero noble. Grendel and Beowulfhave some of these virtues. Grendel
and Beowulf are similar in some ways through the virtues. Beowulf portrays the Nine Noble
Virtues better than Grendel because of his Courage, to stand up against Grendel. Truth, he
believes what is right is the right thing to do. Honor, he sticks to the idea that he is good, and
that Grendel is and will always be evil. Fidelity, he will always fight for his kingdom and his
friends. Industriousness, he fights hard against Grendel and works hard to defeat him. Self
Reliance, he doesn t rely on weapons or other people to fight Grendel. And Perseverance,
Beowulf defeats Grendel, and never gives up. Grendel only has five of these nine traits while
Beowulf has seven out of the nine. Meaning that Beowulf is nobler than Grendel. Beowulf and
Grendel have some of the nine virtues, but not all. Grendel is less noble than Beowulf. Beowulf
has Courage, Truth, Honor, Fidelity, Self Reliance, and Perseverance. He is courageous because
he is the one to stand up to Grendel and of Now I mean to be a match for Grendel, settle the

The Turkish Bath And Jean Auguste Dominque Ingres
The concept of the gaze in visual culture can take many forms, but generally it deals with the way
in which people look at objects or subjects consciously and unconsciously. This idea can operate
through the media, artwork or by simply just looking at another person. However, there has always
been a sense of bias in relation to how both men and women are depicted in art. Jean Auguste
Dominque Ingres The Turkish Bath (1852 1863 illustrates the male gazeand the presentation of
women in a Turkish bathhouse in the 19th century whereas Sylvia Sleigh s At the Turkish Bath
(1976) conveys an interpretation of the femalegaze with a reimagined version of Ingres painting of
the same name but uses men as the subjects in the 20th century. This essay will therefore discuss
the manner in which the gendered gaze functions within Jean Auguste Dominque Ingres The
Turkish Bath (1852 1863) in comparison to Sylvia Sleigh s At the Turkish Bath (1976).
In The Turkish Bath by Ingres, the image portrayed is one of the artist s most famous works and
is intended for a male spectator. In the painting, a large group of naked women are lounging in an
oriental setting of a Turkish harem, they are displayed in sensual positions which inflict a sense of
erotica. To the right, women are seen caressing each other intimately as they look to the left towards
someone not seen in the painting. Behind them, a woman is sat comfortably with her arms loosely

After that, plave the edge restraints along the perimeter of the boundary. To secure the pavers,
cover the base with a layer of coarse sand. The layer should be around one and half inches. Install
the pavers Based on the design you have chosen, you will need to cut the pavers to fit in
perfectly. See that there isn t any gap between pavers. Lay the pavers on the sand layer.
Concentrate on laying the pavers straght with the bordering pavers and down the edge. Afer
placing the pavers, press down gently into the sand. Make use of a place compactor for tamping.

Obamacare And Affordable Care Act
The Affordable Care Act otherwise known as Obamacare or the Patient Protection and Affordable
Care Act (PPACA) was signed into law in March 2010 and it has not been without its share of
problems, debates and controversies. One of the main points of the debates and controversies with
the PPACA has been the legality of the individual mandate. The individual mandate requires that
most Americans obtain and maintain health insurance, or an exemption, each month or pay a tax
penalty . The whole purpose of creating PPACA was to achieve near universal coverage and to do
so through shared responsibility among government, individuals, and employers and to be able to

Examples Of Foreign Affairs During The Gilded Age
Foreign Affairs
The Gilded age was a time when the United States was thriving, and it seemed like everything was
going good on the outside, but it was truly corrupt and full of unacceptable people on the inside.
This age lasted from 1876 1900, it was a time when many people saw the U.S. also thrive with
innovation, mass imagination, and territorial expansion. There were several presidents during the
Gilded Age, which were Ulysses S. Grant, Ruther B. Hayes, James Garfield, Chester A. Arthur,
Grover Cleveland, Benjamin Harrison, and William McKinley. All these presidents were an asset
that contributed to the growth of the United States during this age. For example, Rutherford B.
Hayes signed the acquisition of America Samoa, Chester A. Arthur was president through the
proposal of the Panama Canal, and William McKinley during the Spanish American war.

Grant was a foreign affair that made the Presidents during the Gilded Age succeed. Even though
Grant proposed the plan he did not think it would be an affair that the U.S. could gain something
from, but after all he was wrong. The Panama Canal proposal was made in 1881 and the U.S.
government saw this as an asset for the nation to establish foreign connections. The canals purpose
was to prove to other nations that the U.S. was now evolving and not following the usual
domination that the European countries used. Their territorial expansions were more of helping
other countries and innovating them just like the U.S. was boosting itself up. The U.S. government
also saw this as an advantage to use the canal to transport commercial ships from the east to the
west of the nation. This canal connected the Caribbean to the Pacific Ocean which gave the nation
the authority to oversee two oceans. The canal would make the American commerce boost and the
nation would be recognized by other nations as the most powerful one in the

Leadership is a complex process by which a person influences others to accomplish a mission, task,

It is not so, Good leaders are made not born. If one has the desire and willpower, heshe can
become an effective leader. Good leaders develop through a never ending process of self study,
education, training, and experience.Leaders must be able to cope with complex technological
change in their organizations; general leadership skills are not sufficient in IT enriched
environments. Specific technology related knowledge is required and it must directly relate to the
tools, medium, strategies and competencies found within the culture. An IT leader must possess
analytical and listening skills as true listening involves insight into what will work today,
tomorrow and in the future. The IT leader must take the initiative to try new methods without fear
of failure, an enormous task facing the IT leader when deciding on solutions to technology related
issues within his scope of influence. Attrition rate is high in IT industry due to the work pressure
wherein managers are not able to spend enough time with their subordinates. In the fast paced IT

Fur Farm Ethical Issues
To finally decide if fur is morally ethical it is necessary to look deeper into the process of
creating the pelts. Fur farming is the easiest and most popular way to produce the fur skins,
which are later used to create garments, trims and accessories in fashion. The main and most
important furbearers kept on farms are minks and foxes. According to Linzey around 50 million
mink (Mustela vison) and 7 million foxes (mostly Arctic fox, Alopex lagopus) are bred each year
to meet the world demand for their skins (2009: 97). When hearing the term furfarm most of the
people would imagine a warm and friendly environment where animals are kept healthy, well fed
and happy, but the reality of it seems to be different. The facilities at fur farms reminding more of
a prison cells. For their entire lives the animalsare kept in small, wired cages which are preventing
them from doing any of their natural activities such as making nests, running or swimming.
Furthermore, living in a small cage in such conditions causes many of the animals to go insane.
Their frustration due to anxiety and the inability to meet their basic requirements often leads to self
harming by for instance biting their own skin, tail or feet, and in some cases even cannibalizing
their own cage mates. Studies show that majority of these animals develop behavioural... Show

The next batter hits a fly ball to the right fielder. The runner on third tags and scores. 0 1.
It is the top of the 5th inning and the first batter hits a sharp grounder to the shortstop. It should be
an easy out, but the ball bounces off his glove and scatters toward the center fielder. The next batter

a country in East Asia located in the Northern part of the Korean Peninsula. North Korea is known
for its infamous Communist beliefs and portrayed bully mentality type of government. However
this great nation has way more history and authenticity as a culture that helped shape the world s
history.
Terrain
The Democratic People s Republic of Korea is a mountainous region with a very cold climate.
However, it does experience all four seasons. The western coastal plain surrounding the capital
Pyongyang is the largest area of flat terrain. The eastern region is mainly mountainous having
rivers, valleys, and high plateaus scattered throughout. Paektu sam is the highest elevation located
in North Korea. North Korea also shares a land border with China to the north, along the border
runs the Tumen River. A small section of this river also forms its border with Russia. The most
popular border shared is the Korean Demilitarized Zone. Which mark the boundaries of North and

significant amounts farther than the rocket s with a much larger mass, that would validate my

PROCEDURES
In the steps provided below, are the methods I used to create my rocket. However, the methods
listed may or may not apply to you. Please be aware.
THE BODY:
Materials needed: A 2L Pop bottle, a black marker, paint, a ruler
, and a roll of masking tape. You
can also use Duct tape instead of masking tape if you prefer. Both works equally.
For the body of my rocket, I decided to cover it with masking tape. If I wanted to prove my
hypothesis correct, this would be the best way to prove my point.
Get your Pop bottle, and start measuring it.
It is much easier when you measure out your Pop bottle, so you know the exact and accurate
placements of wherever you decide to place your fins/cone.
Once you have measured out your Pop bottle, decide where you are going to wrap the masking tape
around.
For my sake, I decided to cover the center of the bottle with masking tape.

Howard therefore simply sees the relationship as diplomatic and business like and understands
that Willy is not able to pull his own weight anymore. Yet for Willy this is all about loyalty

Howard has to say to Willy, however, is that business is business . This a good example of Willy s
misunderstanding of the co operative and benevolent nature of capitalism and his inadequacy to put
aside feelings and emotions, which should not interfere with the business. Loman has been unable
to learn that business ethics, the morality of his work community oppose the traditions he assumed
were still in action: the personal ethics of honour.
Willy also has his own, distinct perception of success. For him it is all about money and being
well liked . That is how he saw Dave Singleman and assumed this was a perfect ideal of success,
which he, himself, could achieve becoming a salesman. He imagines that pursuing the same career
in the same merchandise field, he will be just like Dave Singleman: Without ever leaving his

Kidney disease 3 blood count indicates anemia due to decreased production of erythropoietin

determine the cause and stage of the disease. A renal biopsy may also be performed. These
diagnostic tests determine the progression of the disease. There are five stages of chronic kidney
disease. The treatment plan depends on the stage of the disease. If it is diagnosed in stage one,
the patient and physician can work to treat the contributing factors and slow the progression of
the disease. By the fifth stage the patient is on dialysis, needs a transplant, or in the most severe
cases is in hospice care (Castner, 2010). Educating the patient is a very important part of the
nursing role. The patient with chronic kidney disease needs to be educated on the disease
process, how to slow the progression of the disease, medications, diet restrictions, dialysis and how
to care for the dialysis access site, and the importance of regular visits with their physician. The
more a patient knows, the more he/she can be proactive in the treatment plan. Kidney disease is

Reciprocity And Kawelka Relationship
The act of reciprocity, the mutual act of giving and receiving; giving more than you are taking. A
quote that really captures the true meaning of reciprocity is, People gave with the expectation of
taking and took with the expectation of giving (Harris 1989). This is seen across many different
cultures and time periods. Nevertheless, they are not all the same, and may not generate
equivalent types of relationships, for social and personal value. In this essay we will look at two
separate acts of reciprocity; how they work, and what they provide. First, a look into the Gebusi
sister exchange, and then into the Kawelka s moka ceremony. Everyone desires connection,
whether that be through friendships or sexual relations.
Community and the desire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Among the Kawelka tribe, reciprocity serves as a way of gaining prestige and shaming rivals
(Cronk 1988). This form of exchange serves as way of social superiority. Their ritual is called the
moka; this is a very important ceremony to their tribe. The reason why Ongka so wanted to give
his big moka, is that only by giving can he earn fame and status for his tribe and for him (Niarn
1974). The moka ceremony is a formal interaction in which one man gives more than he received
from another, as a pay back of debt, as well as a trump to their social status. However, the return
of the moka cannot happen after a long period of time, doing so immediately would serve as a
desire to cut the strings and end the relationship. It is expected that the debt will be repaid when
the time comes, if it is not the one who has not repaid the debt will lose their support and status
as a big man . The goal of the moka is to eventually become a big man , also known as a tribal
leader (Cronk 1988). After one big moka was thrown by Ongka, that included several hundreds of
pigs, a truck, thousands of dollars and more, he told the recipient of his moka, I have won. I have
knocked you down by giving so much (Cronk 1988; Nairn

seasonality for both precipitation and Eto as illustrated in the figures. Notably, for the months of

Lack Of Empathy In American Society
Empathy is the ability to understand what another person is feeling (Posick 1). In order to show
empathy you must see things from another person s eyes, allowing you to understand and relate
to what they are feeling. Naturally for us as humans, it is easier to empathize with others who
have been through similar situations or face similar problems as we do. If we as citizens could
begin to be more empathic as a whole, we would bring an end to several major problems that we
face in our daily lives as Americans, and as people as a whole. Empathyis needed in American

If Americans made an effort to spread empathy it would end a large amount of ignorance and self
centered thinking that leads to seemingly senseless killings such as the shooting in Charlestown by

doing what is considered normal in their culture. There are examples nearly every day of people
lacking empathy, which causes them to go to extremes in pursuit of money, power, or
acknowledgement, causing them to ruin their lives by making irrational decisions. Not only does
empathy prevent the natural biases created through cultural practices, it also allows individuals to
think more critically about the effects of their actions. One might say that racism is pure ignorance,

The Role Of The Kuraka During The Spanish Conquest
The Role of The Kuraka During The Spanish Conquest
During the Spanish conquest of the Incan Empire the role of the Kuraka was crucial in gaining
control over the Andean society. The role of the Kuraka could be thought of as provincial nobility
[1] whose main job was to control the labor and tribute made and delivered from the natives to the
state. In order to do this job the Kurakas had to maintain respect from the natives while maintaining
good relations with the colonial state. This could be difficult considering that too much affiliation
with the state could lead to a loss of status to the natives, and a loss of respect from the natives
would make one useless to the state. The Indian who broke entirely with his own culture ... Show

Because they did not understand the infrastructure the Spaniards could not gain access or control
over the Indian society with their own hierarchy or authority. It was made clear that in order to run
this society the Spanish rulers had to gain control over the means of production. This is why they
incorporated the traditional Andean Hierarchy, The Kurakas, into their model of government.[5]
In the late 1500 s Francisco Toledo, Spanish Viceroy of Peru, implemented many reforms
centralizing the colonial government. He implemented regulations that grouped the natives into
small settlements or villages, much like those seen in Europe, with grid like streets, a central
plaza that faced the church, and a jail, etc. The Indians resisted these villages and many even fled.
In the face of Indian resistance the Spanish authorities planned on using the Kurakas traditional
power over the labor and goods of the Indigenous people to benefit the state by gaining control
over these societies and using these goods and services of the natives as forms of payment to the
state.
Discrimination and the exploitation of Indians continued to grow throughout the 16th century and
brought about difficulties for members of the Indian elite. The Kurakas were slowly losing respect
from the natives by trying to fulfill their requirements to the state. Laws and ordinances were put in
place to try and stop the exploitation of the Indians. Such laws

Executive Leadership In Relation To Company Success Essays
Executives in today s world could be compared to the coaches of a sports team. The executive
team members of a football program include the head coach, offensive line coach, defensive line
coach, running backs coach, wide receivers coach, secondary coach, and special teams coach. The
chief executive officer, or head coach, calls the plays. The chief operations officer and chief
financial officer are akin to the offensive line coach and defensive line coach respectively. The
chief operations officer oversees the daily operations of the company while the chief financial

A leader s style can be classified as transactional, transformational, or what is considered level 5. A
transactional leader creates a very structured environment. Those leaders employing transactional
leadership create clearly defined responsibilities for employees and subordinates. Transactional
leadership details the rewards for success; unfortunately, transactional leadership also encompasses
an element of punishment for failure. The punishment can be something as simple as a reprimand
for small infractions up to termination for more serious infractions; the consequences are usually
well documented as a formal policy. The transformational leadership style goes far beyond
transactional leadership. A transformational leadership style is characterized by high energy,
sensibility, clarity in direction, and empathy. Transformational leaders inspire subordinates to go
beyond the norm and achieve goals on a greater scale than they thought possible. The
transformational leader promotes a mentoring relationship rather than a monitoring relationship.
Which leadership style is better? The answer would be neither, both have their place. The culture
and potential problems facing a company are factors that determine which leadership style works
best. While the leadership style is important, the leader is just as important. Anyone can be a
manager, but what does it take to become a great leader? What sets level 5 leaders apart from

Political Differences Between Eastern And Western Europe
Before period 3 came the fall of many great empires across the world. Han China and Gupta India
were falling to invaders and revolts. However, one of the most important downfalls of an empire
in the classical period was the fall of the Roman Empire. Due to many contributing factors, Rome
broke apart towards the end of period 2 and changed the entirety of Europeand the Middle East.
This fall more importantly increased the divide between Eastern and Western Europe. After the fall
of Rome, the administrations of Western and Eastern Europeshowed more drastic differences in
both centralization and religion. However, even with this major differences they still shared the
same ambitions and values. One of the primary differences between Eastern and Western Europe
in period 3 is their respective governments or more specifically the centralization of them. The
major nation in the East was the Byzantines. They are known for being extremely centralized and
having a very large bureaucracy. While on the other hand, Western Europe was split into many
smaller areas and states, each having very loose organization. The paramount example of a
noncentralized Europe is the governing system. This system was feudalism, a political system that
spreads power and control amongst lords and their vassals. While the king has a lot of power,
feudalism does not allow for a heavily centralized government. With the Byzantines it is almost the
opposite. Most of the power was given to the emperor. The

The Basic Tasks Of Journalism
Christians et al. classify the basic tasks of journalism in a democracy under three main headings:
1.The task of observing and informing, primarily as a service to the public
2.The task of participating in public life as an independent actor by way of critical comment,
advice, advocacy and expression of opinion
3.The task of providing a channel, forum, or platform for extramedia voices or sources to reach a
self chosen public (pp. 116).
This tasks could be developed and performed by journalism in four types of outlets, in their
specific media systems, characterized by Christians et al. as it follows (p. 117):
1.The internally pluralist and secular media that seek to maximize circulation, which appeal to a
wide range of audiences
2.The externally pluralist commercial media that seek to maximize circulation, but orienting its
content to a like minded audience
3.The partisan media, noncommercial and in a small scale, oriented to ideas of a particular group
4.The minority media of opinion and debate
The authors display these types of media in a diagram (p. 118) in order to organize and visualize
the way in which different outlets and journalism can be located in a continuum between open
access and closed access (to audiences) and the media as an observer or a participant (that can be
used as a weapon).
Within this landscape, Christians et al. point out the most typical journalistic roles, as it follows (p.
12):
1.The monitorial role
2.The facilitative role

Radish Lab
Introduction
In this experiment, radish seeds were exposed to several different kinds of solutions (salt, soap,
vinegar, fertilizer, distilled water) to test how different environmental pollutants affect seed
germination. Because there are several kinds of solutions being tested in this experiment, there is
more than one hypothesis. The hypotheses for this experiment are as follows: The use of fertilizer
solution increases radish seed germination and growth. The use of salt solution decreases radish
seed germination and growth. The use of soap solution decreases radish seed germination and
growth. The use of vinegar solution decreases radish seed germination and growth. Distilled water

The seeds soaked in the salt solution did not have any change in appearance while the seeds
exposed to the vinegar solution generally appeared to become darker in color and shriveled. For
the 10% fertilizer solution only one replication produced germination (6 out of the 10 seeds in
the petri dish germinated). The seeds that did not germinate for the 10% fertilizer solution
appeared darker in color. Seeds exposed to distilled water (control) had germination across every
replication group and produced some fairly large sprouts. The 10% soap solution seeds also had
germination in every replication group, but the size of the sprouts were not as large as the ones
in the control group. Figure 1 on page 4 is a table that shows the number of seeds germinated
across all replications, including the different concentrations of the solution. Figure 2 on page 4 is

The Year Of 2013 And My Bowling Career
It is the year of 2013 and my bowling career is starting to kick off. In that year, I bowled in a
Saturday morning league that started in the late summer time and ended in early Spring.
Approaching towards the last week of League, I received a letter in the mail stating that I have
qualified for the Illinois State BowlingTournament. Ever since I have bowled this league, I have
made State every single year, but never performed as well as I should have. Hopefully, this will be
the year that I make some scholarship money for my Bowling career when I go to Highland. It
was edging toward the last few weeks of the leagueand now it was time to start making the teams
for State. Since I attended Dakota High School, there was no bowling team... Show more content on

Once we arrived to the hotel, our team went to the bowling alleys and watched the other kids

life. Just think, every individual bowler brought both of their parents and maybe a couple
friends., it was a nightmare. We didn t get to see much but the back of people s heads so we
went back to the hotel and swam in the pool and lied in our beds to watch some television to get
a good night sleep for tomorrows matchup. During my sleep, I had a crazy dream. It was more of
a series of flashbacks to league morning on Saturdays. But anyways, it started with me and my
league team bowling back when I was a little kid. I remembered all of the greatest moments of
my bowling career. All of the splits I have picked up, all of the people cheering for me, all the
high games I ve had was all coming back to me in this dream. The memories all led up to this
moment to be cherished and to be never forgotten. I will never forget that dream. As soon as I
woke up, I was the most energetic kid in the whole neighborhood. My parents would just look at
me like I m crazy but they were probably right, I was getting a little out of hand. Once I was
showered and ready to go, my team met up before we headed out. We all grabbed some breakfast at
McDonald s which was my go to as a little kid. It was always the same meal, Hotcakes and hash
browns. But that s beside the point. We arrived

Gilgamesh Female Characters
In this paper, I am going to analyze the female characters that caught my attention the most in the
three stories The Epic of Gilgamesh, Thousand and One Nights, and Candide. They all are
important characters in each of the stories and their influence in the story is to help. These stories
also depict how women were being treated during these times such as being used for their bodies
and wisdom. The characters that I will be analyzing in the paper are Shamhat, Ishtar, Shiduri,
Sharazad, the Old Woman, and Cunegonde. In all three stories, they mostly share the same
depictions of the role of women and how women weren t really important besides their bodies.
To start off, there were three characters from The Epic of Gilgameshthat interested me, so I will
begin by analyzing them. The first character was Shamhat. She was a hierodule, temple prostitute,
that Gilgamesh used to help civilize Enkidu. Besides being a prostitute, she caught my attention
because of her caring personality and generosity. She did things that she wasn t obligated to do
such as taking off some of her clothing to cloth Enkidu. She also went out of her way to teach
Enkidu how to eat, dress himself, and keep himself groomed like a human being should.
Shamhat isn t a jealous or possessive lover, she prepared Enkidu for life outside of the wild and
let him discover the world on his own. Shamhat was ultimately a positive figure in the story and in
Enkidu s life because she inspires him to move further in life

Cardiovascular System Vs Respiratory System Essay
The human body is not simply just an organism, or just body. The body is comprised of many
different systems. Although these systems all work together with one common goal, to maintain
homeostasis, perhaps there are not two systems that work more closely together than the respiratory
system and the cardiovascular system. Although the entirety of each body system has a generalized
common goal, these two systems share a relationship. The both focus on providing oxygen to the
blood, and then ensuring that this richly oxygenated blood is circulated throughout the body. The
whole human organism would fail if it lacked just one of these systems, and the individual systems
would fail without each other. To fully understand how the two work together, one must fully
realize the functions of each system apart. The respiratory is not one of the biggest systems of the
body, but it is one of the most commonly known. However, this system is not simply for breathing
or the lung system . In fact, these notions only... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two most significant to the coexistence of both systems being the pulmonary artery and

From there, the oxygen from the air sacs goes into the blood vessel, while the carbon dioxide
comes out (How Does Oxygen Get Into the Bloodstream) . Upon this moment, the organism exhales
releasing the carbon dioxide. Meanwhile, the now oxygenated blood travels throughout the body,
which especially important for the muscles. Oxygen is required for the muscles to preform any sort
of strenuous activity. Faster paced breathing and an elevated heart rate aren t random symptoms of
a good work out. The blood must quickly transfer oxygen to the muscles. This is so that the
muscles have the ability to create adenosine tri phosphate (ATP) which carries

Of Isara Ed Trihemasava s To Kill A Mockingbird
One of the most notable quotes in To Kill a Mockingbird is, you never really understand a
person until you consider things from his point of view until you climb into his skin and walk
around in it (Lee 39). Shadowing my father allowed me to exercise this quote. His name is Isara
Ed Trihemasava, who is an excellent choice to shadow for he is self employed, a dedicated
father, as well as a diligent person. He takes on exhausting tasks in working as an electronic
retailer for several hours throughout the week in addition to being a full time father. Shadowing

Being satisfied with one s life can be effortless, but for my father that is not the case. For my
father to be happy with his life, he would have to see his children succeed in goals that they have
set for their future and to not work as hard as him for a living. He would want to change his
career that would give further financial security, while having extra time to stay with family
provided that he could. According to my father, there are no clear or burdensome parts of being
a parent, however being a parent entrusts a person to be accountable for providing the basic
needs for their children. For instance, education, correct behavior, and principles. Sacrifices are
typically seen with families, but not by Mr. Trihemasava. Mr. Trihemasava stated that he did not
relinquish anything, because he gives his family his love and time as much as he can. Being a
parent is always difficult, but there are no guidelines to being a good or bad parent. In my father
s opinion, teaching or telling the children what is good for their life, what they are supposed to
do, and how to prepare for their future, such as working hard at school, is what I would consider
a good parent (Trihemasava). My father repeatedly says when you are tired, you go to sleep, when
you wake up you feel refreshed, when you are hungry, you go to sleep and wake up still hungry
(Trihemasava). The intention behind this quote is to work for necessities. Giving me the chance to

Comparing Plutarch And Suetonius

History 414
2/19/18
A great way to look at the writing styles of two separate biographers is to see how they present
the life of the same person. In this case we are lucky enough to have two ancient biographers who
both have focused one of their works on the life of Julius Caesar. These two ancient men are
Plutarch and Suetonius. By having two story tellers tell the story of the life of the same character,
it makes each writer s writing aspects that much more obvious to the reader. Plutarch has a very
different collection of features to his writing, but also see the importance of the military in that
time to write his biography about. Overall his writing is a a very good balance between
informative and dramatic with different personas to discuss aspects in Caesar s life. Suetonius has ...

Suetonius has a very different structured style of biography for Julius Caesar. Suetonius main
focuses is on Caesars conniving way to by any means manipulate his way into higher positions of
power. A lot of Suetonius sections book goes in great detail of how Julius was looking into
political positions of power and manipulations in order to attain those positions. Something that
caught my eye is that Suetonius was a section dedicated to simply describing the physical and
mental attributes of Caesar. Moreover, Suetonius didn t put these describing attributes throughout
the biography, but saved them all for their own little section in the biography. I think the most
prominent attribute to Caesar s personality that Suetonius makes known in his work is Caesar s
love for a lavish lifestyle. Plutarch is another ancient biographer who decides to write about the
life of Julius Caesar. Plutarch also has a very dramatic and or tragic element to his writing. By
combing through his life story, Plutarch s writing styles are discovered. Plutarch focuses mainly on
military matters in Caesars life, while sometimes adding

Rhetorical Analysis Of Gatorade s The Secret To Victory
Gatorade s most recent commercial, The Secret to Victory, focuses on defeat to help make their
advertisement effective. The commercial starts out with Michael Jordan, a star basketball player,
who asks, You want to know the secret to victory? This bold question grabs the attention of the
audience. The commercial continues with many star athletes, present and past, that state a time
where they failed in their respective careers. Later on, NFL quarterback Matt Ryan, answers
Jordan s proposed question with defeat, after a scene of him losing in the Super Bowl. In this
essay, I will argue that Gatorade s The Secret to Victory commercial is very effective by using
rhetorical components and focusing on defeat. The target audience for Gatorade is for athletes, but
this commercial does a great job of reaching out to a wide range of athletes. The advertisement
targets athletes of the older generation, along with athletes that are young. Gatorade uses two
retired players, Peyton Manningand Michael Jordan, along with two players nearing the end of their
careers, Eli Manningand Serena Williams, and three players that are currently in their prime, Kyle
Schwarber, Matt Ryan, and Karl Anthony Towns. The different ages in the commercial are
extremely effective because athletes that would be interested in Gatorade s products vary in age,
and Gatorade had to appeal to all generations of athletes. Also, the inclusion of Serena Williams can
appeal to the female athletes that view the

  • 2. Essay about Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Many women that become pregnant are unaware of the consequences of drinking alcohol during pregnancy and the damaging effects it has on the fetus. When a woman who is pregnant drinks alcohol, the baby is also drinking alcohol. Furthermore, the amount of alcohol that is consumed by the mother is the same amount the baby receives through the mother s placenta. Many doctors advise that it is okay for the mother to have an occasional drink, however, some women cannot stop at one drink, and they continue to drink in excess throughout their pregnancy. Still, even moderate consumption of alcohol is not wise, because it is still unknown how much alcohol the fetus is able to tolerate without potential harm. Consequently, a fetus that has been... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the last trimester of pregnancy, the fetus lungs and liver are maturing, and the unborn baby s liver is unable to handle any level of alcohol. At these stages it is critical for the mother to refrain from drinking alcohol, in order to ensure the health of the baby. Some effects to the fetus of drinking alcohol during pregnancy are: prenatal growth retardation, specifically, facial deformities, and a tendency to be smaller in weight, length, and head circumference. In addition, alcohol causes neurodevelopment defects and central nervous system dysfunction to the unborn baby. FAS infants are also at an increased risk for many common birth defects, including congenial heart disease, abnormalities of the urinary tract and genitals, and spina bifida. Although these abnormalities are not specific to FAS, they do assist in the diagnosis of the problem. Many recent studies are claiming that alcohol damages some parts of the brain more than others, targeting particular biochemical pathways vital to the development, function, migration, and survival of certain nerve cells. Further research is being done to help find ways that will block some of alcohol s harmful effects on the fetus. One study has identified specific effects on molecules that regulate development and others that participate in cell signaling (Christensen 3). The cell adhesion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. TFSA Vs Rrsp Essay A RRSP is a Registered Retirement Savings Plan that is an account set up to save for retirement whereas a TFSA is a Tax Free Savings Account that is set up for any type of savings goal. They both differ in their own ways however, both offer tax advantages to help one reach their savings goals. First, in order to make contributions to a RRSP one needs earned income on the other hand for a TFSA one does not. Also, another key difference between the two plans are that RRSP contributions are tax deductible as you can deduct your contribution from the income you report on the tax return. A TFSA is the exact inverse, as you cannot deduct your contribution on your tax return. Furthermore, when it comes to withdrawals, both of the plans are opposite once again as TFSA withdrawals are tax free and RRSP withdrawals aren t tax free. Also another difference would be the age limit for making contributions, with a RRSP one has to stop making contributions at the age of 71, whereas in a TFSA there is no age restriction, one could make contributions for how ever long they want. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now when it comes to choosing one plan and making the most from it, it depends on a few key factors including tax situations, when your planning on taking out the money, and individual circumstances. The best path would be to contribute to both, but most citizens can t afford that. The way I look at it, RRSP is more long term (10 years or more), and TFSA is more short term (1 10 years). If the client is a young adult and is saving for an investment within the next 10 years, the client should invest in a TFSA. If the client however is older, someone who maybe is a full adult, perhaps over the age of 28 should look to invest in a RRSP, as that person will need money once he or she has retired. Plus, if the person is being taxed heavily, its always good to get that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Usefulness And Effectiveness Of The Employee Voice Literature Review This Literature Review will discuss the usefulness and effectiveness of the employee voice, the use of engagement surveys, what employee engagement is, and examine the links between and the affect of the psychological contract, and its similarities to motivation, and to what impact do line managers have on engagement overall, which relates to the research objectives for this report. As defined by Daniels (2010) a combination of commitment to the organisation and its values and a willingness to help out colleagues (organisational citizenship). It goes beyond job satisfaction and is not simply motivation. Engagement is something the employee has to offer, it cannot be required as part of the employment contract. ... A strong sense of listening and of responsiveness permeates the organisation, enabled by effective communication Gennard at el (2014) p.329. Although Marchington (2010) argues traditionally, voice has been used primarily in relation to union based and broader forms of participation, rather than direct employee involvement, because this was seen as the principal way in which workers could gain influence at work However the CIPD suggest that there are some benefits to directly communication with staff and allowing for an employee voice. Employee voice is the means by which employees communicate their views on employment and organisational issues to their employers CIPD (2016). Marchington (2010) also claims more recently, analysis has shifted to examine non union models of indirect voice. Overall the employee voice has influence as suggested by the CIPD ( 2016) It s also seen as a central pillar of employee engagement. It is difficult to assess in any useful way the level of employee engagement without systematically consulting the employees themselves (Gennard at el 2014 p.317) As an attempt to address engagement amongst employees, according to XpertHR (2016) Employers can use engagement surveys to measure levels of engagement, which can help them to identify ... • 5. The Field Of American Studies In this essay, I will examine the field of American Studies and attempt to explain its ever changing definition. I will take the reader through the origins of American Studies and describe the events that led to changes in the discipline. The scholars in American Studies are constantly seeking to understand the practices by individuals and groups and their history of origin. Scholars struggle to understand how values and beliefs shape social and political realities within the U.S. and other countries. American Studies is an interdisciplinary study that explores cultures of the United States as well as their transnational exchanges and impact. In the words of Staurt Hall, he finds in American culture and in America s capacity to live with difference the best illustration of a continuous dialect between the local and the global, between the insular and the transnational. He defines culture as an embodiment of the best that has been thought and said in a society. It is the sum of the great ideas as represented in the classic works of painting, music, and philosophy that represent culture. (Hall, 9) Hall also has observed U.S. dominance in communication and described America as the common factor of globalization. The field of American Studies began in what may be called a single beginning with multiple origins. The beginning of the American Studies Association in late 1951 and early 1952 and the beginning of the journal, American Quarterly at the University of Minnesota in ... The extermination of false aristocracies (of the priest, of the politician, of the plutocrats); 6. The rebirth of the healthy, noble innocence that was the Greek man. • 7. Survey of Art History Survey of Art History II Man Ray like many other artists did not care to have his personal life shown in his art. He wanted to be viewed and recognized for his work which included sculptures, paintings, and photography. Man Ray was mostly influenced by Stieglitz s photographs. Man Ray used a similar style to Stieglitz. He captured images that created an unvarnished look at the photos subject. Man Ray discovered a new way to create his photos; by accident in his work room he discovered how to manipulate objects in his photos on pieces of photosensitive paper. In the year 1914, at a seminal exhibition, Man Ray introduced himself to African art. Man Ray did this at the Alfred Stieglitz 291 Gallery. Man Ray s photograph Noire et Blanche became an icon for modern photography. Although this was his most famous and widely known piece, Man Ray s less known work made a greater impact and influence on African art. Photographs with African art pieces began to flourish greatly after Man Ray s break through with his Noire et Blanche photograph. These photographs shed light on many day to day issues such as: issues of race, identity, sex, separatism, and disenfranchisement. Noire et Blanche shows Kiki Man Ray s companion with her eyes closed and her head sideways on a table in a very relaxed manner. With her left hand, Kiki is holding, an African mask known as a Baule Gba Gba mask. The mask is held straight above the table and right up next to her face. In this time, it was ... • 8. Women s Pavilion at the Columbian Exposition Essay example The Women s Pavilion The Columbian Exposition was notable for its impressive architecture and large international attendance. Of particular importance was the Women s Pavilion. The first of its kind to have been designed by a female architect, it revealed much about the social plight of women at that time, and the need for further progress in the movement for equal rights. While its existence did not trigger significant changes for the Women s Movement, this pavilion was certainly a promising first step that would set a precedent for women s involvement in later years. All aspects of women s involvement in the Chicago fair were overseen by the Board of Lady Managers. This governing body, the first of its kind, had authority over... The women s pavilion placed ...particular emphasis on those activities generally acknowledged to be within the women s sphere with little information in the areas of science and discovery. (Greenhalgh, 175) Most of the art work done by women was nowhere to be found in the women s pavilion, but instead was in the main Fine Arts building. While the Board of Lady Managers was supposed to have general charge and management of all interests of women in connection with the Exposition , they were denied a say in the selection of the actual architect. (Ralph, 170) This decision instead was made by a board of men. In order to select the architect, work was examined from fourteen distinguished women in the field. • 9. Overview of the Tomb of Qin Shi Huang Di The Tomb of Qin Shi Huang Di Introduction: The Qin Dynasty, under its first ruler, Qin Shi Huang di, would unite China as a single entity for the first time. His rule, which lasted from 221BC to 210BC, would bring together various warring factions under a single imperial authority. In doing so, this imperial authority would also attribute to itself an incredible degree of divine importance as perhaps is best demonstrated by the tomb constructed in his honor. The Qin Dynasty is remarkable for the ego and ambition of its emperor. Qin Shi Huang di may be demonstrated as a man of unparalleled conceit, with the extent of artifact evidence notable at his burial site standing in direct competition with that of any pharaoh or European king. That Qin was the first ruler to unify the parameters of what is now modern China, it may not be seen as so unreasonable that much of the artwork notable from his time was that which was built in tribute to him. Indeed, the beginnings of the Great Wall of China would come about in this time, and would be as much a testament to the remarkable vanity of Qin s ambitions as to the strategic justification for the erection of the enormous structure. However, the Tomb of Qin Shi Huang Di, contrary to the security induced Great Wall, remains shrouded in mystery even to the present day. The plans behind its construction, the incredible detail and the sheer cruelty of what is implied by its many chambers give continued life to archeological speculation. ... • 10. Essay On Tn Ready State Should Replace TN Ready In recent years the state of Tennessee has experienced many problems with their new standardized testing called TN Ready. The new TN Ready standardized testing is unbeneficial to students and teachers. In the best interest of students and teachers the state should abolish TN Ready, and replace with the ACT Aspire and the ACT. Ever since the fall of 2015, when TN Ready began the state has experienced many problems, some of which still exist two years later. The original plan was to have students testonline from the get go, but that was halted when the system students were using crashed. After the computer system crashed the state then decided to test on paper, which the vendor could... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bottom line is the state should not have begun a new way of testing student and teacher performance until they were certain that teachers and students would experience no problems during testing. Since a new test in and of itself is hard enough for teachers and students to learn how to do, the transition from TCAP to TN Ready should have been smooth from the get go, but it was not. The state should abolish TN Ready and move to the ACT Aspire for grades three through ten and the ACT for grade eleven. Using the ACT Aspire and the ACT can serve many purpose. The first and perhaps the biggest benefit of using the ACT Aspire and the ACT is that it can show not only how well students are performing state wide but also how well they are performing nationally. There is also more practice resources out for ACT whereas there is hardly any for educators or students to use for TN Ready. Finally using the ACT Aspire and the ACT would better prepare students for college admissions, because teachers would be able to focus instruction solely on an exam that is comparable to that of the ACT. Using the ACT Aspire and the ACT is a win win situation for everyone. Those opposed to using the ACT Aspire or the ACT would argue that it does not use some free response questions like that of TN Ready, and that it does not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Development Of Drug Addiction Essay Undoubtedly, a huge role in the women abuses plays by the biological characteristics of the development of drug addiction. The most important are features of a constitution and hormonal difference, which significantly affect the pharmacokinetics of drugs (NIAA, 2015). In general, women have a lower activity of hepatic enzymes related to drug metabolism. Resulting from the body weight and a higher ratio of fat tissue in relation to the muscle, there is a higher concentration of surfactant in the blood of women compared to men even while receiving similar doses of substance. A larger amount of adipose tissue significantly increases the absorption of lipophilic surfactants (PCP, marijuana) and their subsequent slow release. The action of drugs on the central nervous system also depends significantly on the human sexual affiliation. It is connected with the central mechanisms of neurotransmission mesocorticolimbic system in women, leading to a higher concentration of dopamine (Scott, 2015). In conclusion, it can be said that females are less resistant to the drugs, which leads to the faster habituation to complications when trying to overcome the addiction. Another aspect to highlight lies in the scopes of the development of alcohol or drug abuse is the genetical factors of inheritance and genetic factors. Of course, there are numerous debates in the discussion labelled as nature or nurture, but the inheritance cannot be ignored. One of the research establishes that alcoholism ... • 12. Comparing Dorian Gray And Neil Jordan s Interview With A Oscar Wilde s The Picture of Dorian Gray and Neil Jordan s Interview with a Vampire are gothic narrations that incorporate the themes of sensuality and hedonism. Although the texts do not contain any explicit statements of homoeroticism, the suggestive narration, allusions and imagery, camera angles and music highlight the homoerotic feelings between men. While Wilde does not mention any homosexual acts explicitly, the element of homoeroticism is described within the competition for Dorian s attention. Dorian is described through allusions to be likened to Adonis; a creature who looks as if he were made of ivory and rose leaves. (Lord Henry Wotten) Adonis, a representation of youthful idealism is a symbolic gesture of Dorian s youthful sensuality. Lord Henry and Basil Hallward praise Dorian s youthful demeanour, Basil commenting as long as I live, the personality of Dorian Gray will dominate me. (Basil Hallward) Whilst Basil is rejected, Dorian wishes to emulate Lord Henry, which in turn, rouses Lord Henry from his characteristic languor to a desire to influence Dorian, a process that is itself a sublimated expression of homosexuality. • 13. Vasco Nunez De Balbo The Panama Canal For hundreds of years if anyone wanted to sail west from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean, they had no choice but to take a exceptionally time consuming journey. Before the Panama Canal existed, whomever wanted to transport goods, had to go all the way around South America, or the Cape Horn as they would call it. This resulted in many lives being lost and cargos and ships being lost to the sea. People became tired of it and Panama became an attraction to avoid sailing all the way around South America. Vasco Nunez de Balboa was the man that made the dream seam possible. He went out to Panama himself and explored it to find a way a shorter route could be made (Benoit, 2014). From passenger to business ships the Panama canal is something they rely on because one can get from end to end in a couple of hours and continue on to its destination.Making it faster to travel and faster to transport goods from land to land. In order to get this canal to do its job, locks had to be built. They were a challenge because the had to be immense. There were three different locks built. Each had a double chamber so that more than one ship could go in at the same time. The locks were built to hold the greates oceangoing ship. • 33. Reciprocity And Kawelka Relationship The act of reciprocity, the mutual act of giving and receiving; giving more than you are taking. A quote that really captures the true meaning of reciprocity is, People gave with the expectation of taking and took with the expectation of giving (Harris 1989). This is seen across many different cultures and time periods. Nevertheless, they are not all the same, and may not generate equivalent types of relationships, for social and personal value. In this essay we will look at two separate acts of reciprocity; how they work, and what they provide. First, a look into the Gebusi sister exchange, and then into the Kawelka s moka ceremony. Among the Kawelka tribe, reciprocity serves as a way of gaining prestige and shaming rivals (Cronk 1988). This form of exchange serves as way of social superiority. Their ritual is called the moka; this is a very important ceremony to their tribe. The reason why Ongka so wanted to give his big moka, is that only by giving can he earn fame and status for his tribe and for him (Niarn 1974). The moka ceremony is a formal interaction in which one man gives more than he received from another, as a pay back of debt, as well as a trump to their social status. However, the return of the moka cannot happen after a long period of time, doing so immediately would serve as a desire to cut the strings and end the relationship. It is expected that the debt will be repaid when the time comes, if it is not the one who has not repaid the debt will lose their support and status as a big man . The goal of the moka is to eventually become a big man , also known as a tribal leader (Cronk 1988). After one big moka was thrown by Ongka, that included several hundreds of pigs, a truck, thousands of dollars and more, he told the recipient of his moka, I have won. Results: A Strategy For Modeling Salton Sea Basin Future Climate Scenarios Based On Relationships Between Evapotranspiration And Precipitation A comparison of the averaged weather station datasets versus the historic individual weather station datasets was made for both precipitation and Eto. The averaged monthly dataset preserved seasonality for both precipitation and Eto as illustrated in the figures. Notably, for the months of February, March, and April, the average monthly precipitation volume was lower than the actual weather station historic data. The Role Of The Kuraka During The Spanish Conquest The Role of The Kuraka During The Spanish Conquest During the Spanish conquest of the Incan Empire the role of the Kuraka was crucial in gaining control over the Andean society. The role of the Kuraka could be thought of as provincial nobility [1] whose main job was to control the labor and tribute made and delivered from the natives to the state. In order to do this job the Kurakas had to maintain respect from the natives while maintaining good relations with the colonial state. Because they did not understand the infrastructure the Spaniards could not gain access or control over the Indian society with their own hierarchy or authority. It was made clear that in order to run this society the Spanish rulers had to gain control over the means of production. This is why they incorporated the traditional Andean Hierarchy, The Kurakas, into their model of government.[5] In the late 1500 s Francisco Toledo, Spanish Viceroy of Peru, implemented many reforms centralizing the colonial government. He implemented regulations that grouped the natives into small settlements or villages, much like those seen in Europe, with grid like streets, a central plaza that faced the church, and a jail, etc. The Indians resisted these villages and many even fled. In the face of Indian resistance the Spanish authorities planned on using the Kurakas traditional power over the labor and goods of the Indigenous people to benefit the state by gaining control over these societies and using these goods and services of the natives as forms of payment to the state. Discrimination and the exploitation of Indians continued to grow throughout the 16th century and brought about difficulties for members of the Indian elite. The Kurakas were slowly losing respect from the natives by trying to fulfill their requirements to the state. Laws and ordinances were put in place to try and stop the exploitation of the Indians.
