Tissue Aging Research Paper
Among the diseases and disorders associated with advancing age, one of the most debilitating is the
loss of normal cardiac function leading to heart failure. Heart failure affects approximately 1% of
individuals over 50 and over 5% of individuals over 75. With the ongoing steep rise in the proportion
of elderly individuals within our population (Schocken et al., 2008), age related heart failure is
becoming increasingly prevalent.
Most age related heart failure occurs in the setting of normal systolic function and is called diastolic
heart failure, in contrast to systolic heart failure (Aurigemma, 2006). Although progress has been
made in the treatment of systolic heart failure, with substantial improvements in outcome over the past

Here, using a parabiosis model, we demonstrate that age related cardiac hypertrophy can be reversed
by exposure to a young circulatory environment. These experiments reveal that the cardiac
hypertrophy of aging is at least in part mediated by circulating factors and led to the discovery that
systemic growth differentiation factor 11 (GDF11), a TGF β family member, can reverse age related
cardiac hypertrophy. These data suggest that at least one pathologic component of age related diastolic
heart failure is hormonal in nature and

The Moon Compare To The Moons Of Other Planets
Project 1: How Does the Moon Compare to the Moons of Other Planets
Earth s moon did not always exist. According to a theory known as the Big Whack, a roving planetoid,
Theia, and the ancient Earth were on the same plane in the solar system. Theia, which is believed to
have been at least the size of Mars, collided with the ancient Earth approximately 4.5 billion years
ago. The resulting debris, material from the ancient Earth s mantle, is what is said to have formed our
current day moon. All of the debris broke off of the ancient Earth and proceeded to fill the air. All of
this debris then eventually congealed and formed a solid moon.
When making a comparison between our moon and those of other planets it is interesting to view the
number of moons each planet has, their size, and their proportion of mass as compared to the planet.
Within the terrestrial planets, Mercury and Venus do not have moons, Earth has one moon, and Mars
has two. Earth has only one moon and this moon is only 1.2% of the mass of Earth. Mars has two
moons and they are 0.00002% of the mass of the planet. The Jovian planets have a much larger
number of moons. Jupiter has sixty seven, Saturn has fifty three, Uranus has twenty seven, and
Neptune has thirteen. Jupiter s many moons are 0.013% of the mass of the planet as a whole. Saturn s
moon are 0.04% of the planet s mass. Uranus moons comprise 0.01% of the mass of the planet.
Finally, Neptune s moons make up 0.02% of the planet s

Examples Of Resistance To Change
The most dramatic example of resistance to change that I have encountered has been the change to an
electronic medication administration record (MAR) and electronic treatment administration record
(TAR). In response to some major systems issues with the paper MAR/TAR system, the corporate
team for our skilled nursing facility (SNF) decided that our facility would transition to an
eMAR/eTAR system. However, this was not communicated to the facility until the Monday prior to
the anticipated Friday rollout. The facility was also in our survey window and State was expected any
day. Understandably, staff was unhappy and even angry, mostly of the unknown and how it would
impact their workflow. This vendor provided a two hour training throughout

Importance Of The Pillars Of Public Administration
Pillars of Public Administration and Application to PA Leadership
Understanding the pillars of public administration is a vital way for leaders to gain perspective when
leading successfully. Among these six pillars of public administration, the leadership style addresses a
connection with any civic organization.
Politics/administration dichotomy when viewing this opposition, it should be seen as politicians
writing and making rules while bureaucrats implement and put in place the policies and programs for
the public to utilize. Administration and politics are seen as two separate components where they
should not interface with one another. Even with them being a separate field of study, they have no
choice but to integrate. As Woodrow Wilson looked at how politics and administration were forming,
he felt the importance of government employees conduct themselves in a professional business
manner while ensuring their accountability of providing proper services to the people and not partake
in political philosophies. Politics are aligned with elected officials who write and pass the policies to
be implemented by government agencies which are then applied by civil servants. By achieving this
responsibility, public sector employees are required to embrace the values and principles to ensure
efficiency, legitimacy, and fairness within any level of government. Therefore, public administrators
are seen to uphold integrity within government, be liable to the public and

Teachers Do Not Focus On Phonics
Introduction
There are a lot of misconceptions and misinformation out there concerning how educators can teach
reading, spelling and writing in school classrooms today. A common misconception is that teachers do
not focus on phonics anymore or that starting teachers do not have any understanding of how to teach
phonics. So, what exactly is phonics in education? And, how can educators teach phonics and the
appropriate way to interpret or comprehend the written codes found in different words? This essay
develops a better understanding of phonics and the various teaching approaches that teachers can use
to teach phonics effectively toward enhancing engagement and motivation of student learning.
Phonics focuses on the sound letter relationships used in reading and writing, and involves an
understanding of the alphabetic principle the idea that spoken language is made up of sounds and
these sounds can be mapped to written letters (Hill, 2015, p. 241). Phonics entails phonemic
awareness or alphabet knowledge that is, converting various sounds in spoken dialect and representing
them in the written language. For children to learn to read and spell using phonics, they must
understand the relationship between sounds (phonemes) and letters or letter combinations (graphemes)
and then remember the specific letter sequences and patterns used in different speech sounds. Phonics
instruction thus focuses on developing the relationship between spoken language and written dialect.

Broken Window Theory Analysis
window breaks in an abandoned building in a neighborhood and it is not fixed, then more windows
will be broken and graffiti will occur. In turn, this will make honest people afraid to leave their homes,
and only the mischievous people who want to cause trouble will be out on the streets reeking havoc.
Thus producing crime. Fixing Broken Windows offers a very desiccated but persuasive look at how to
reform the modern criminal justice system by looking at three different aspects: the rise of crime rates
in the middle of the 1960 s; the fact that the police are in a reactive role; and how the broken windows
theory actually works.
The authors state that in the middle of the 1960 s the connection between fear and disorder was
recognized. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The authors also state that the police are now in a reactive role. This means that they respond to crime,
rather than preventing it. Police officers stopped foot patrol and began responding to 911 calls. Many
people advocate the restoration of foot patrol for all areas. Foot patrolling is called community
policing and consists of two elements community partnership and problem solving. The police must
increase positive relationships with citizens to improve crime control and prevention. To be
successful, community policing programs must operate on a neighborhood scale, finding solutions to
neighborhood problems. Successful programs recognize that something, which works well in one
neighborhood, may be totally inappropriate for another. Problems must be identified and solutions
developed one neighborhood at a time. Community Policing does not propose that we stop fighting
crime and disorder, but that officers employ new and innovative strategies. We must become pro
active in preventive rather than reactive. Enforcement is very much a part of the concept. Officers are
encouraged to give warnings whenever possible; however, they are still required to make traffic stops
and arrests. There is still an emphasis on drunken driving, drugs and juvenile crime. The community
should not have the mistaken perception that all enforcement has stopped just because the officers are
being friendly .
Simply put, the Broken Windows says that if something is not stopped

Robert Frost Thesis
In Movement One, one can imagine that the speaker is walking through the woods, looking over the
top of the tree line. He notices trees swaying in the wind, he sees birches bend to left and right (Frost
2). Robert Frost s vivid details in Movement One offers the reader an opportunity to immerse
themselves into the reading. He explains that as the trees bend, the frozen covering of the branches
cracks and crazes their enamel (Frost 7). While watching over the trees, he starts to imagine that the
trees are in this position due to a boy swinging them (Frost 3), fully aware that the trees appear this
way as a result of ice storms. Robert Frost s narrative in Movement Two describes how he would

Teaching Phonics Essay
Phonics is described as understanding letter sound relationships, as well as larger letter pattern/sound
pattern relationships (Ruddell, 2009). Though in my opinion there is a lot more to phonics than this.
There are several aspects to phonics, different types of phonics, negatives to the idea, and several
ways to teach it. In this paper I will address all of these based on research I found, the discussion I had
with my peers, and my own opinion. There are different aspects to phonics that should be taken into
account by teachers. The first is how important phonics is to children. It is said that both phonics and
fluency need to be taught, practiced, and nurtured in the earliest stages of reading instruction and
provided to students at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that they need to have to know effective ways to teach it and how to use the various types,
which will be talked about in this paper. There are several different types of phonics but the two main
types are implicit and explicit (Ruddell, 2009). The implicit approach, or analytic, is when the teacher
teaches the relation between sounds and letters in the context of the word it is found in. This means
you are looking at the whole word and not isolating sounds. The explicit approach, or synthetic,
approach is the opposite of the analytic approach. Instead of looking at the word as a whole, the
teacher looks at each individual sound (Ruddell, 2009). From what I know I believe that both of these
need to be brought into the classroom. It is important for the child to know each sound so they are able
to sound out unfamiliar words in their readings but it is also important for them to be able to recognize
a word in context so they can identify words easily and quicker. In my experience in classrooms I have
noticed the different ways these approaches were used. In my kindergarten placement the teacher
usually used the explicit approach. Each day we would concentrate on two or three letters and the
sounds they made. We would practice the pronunciation and read a poem or sing a song with the letter
in it. In my second grade class the teacher had a very different way. She would have the children look

Red Deer Research Paper
Originally introduced in New Zealand in 1861, Red Deer (Cervus elaphus), were released for sport.
By 1910, it was clear to natives that the deer were creating a negative impact on the environment.
Feeding areas were becoming bare and there was flooding due to the loss of soil from erosion (Drew).
Animals that are introduced to their non native environments and cause harm are known as invasive
species. In addition to New Zealand, this invasive species has also been introduced to North and South
America and Australia, causing similar damaging effects.
Red Deer are originally from Eurasia, belonging in the temperate grassland biome. The ecosystems the
Red Deer would typically be found in are forests, mountain ridges, or open grasslands. Red Deer

How Can Hamlet Be Banned
HAMLET SYNOPSIS
It is a dark winter night and a ghost is wandering the grounds of the Danish castle, Elsinore. There are
various sightings of this ghost, all of which confirm it to be the ghost of the King, who recently died.
The throne was taken by his brother Claudius, who also married Queen Gertrude. Prince Hamlet, King
Hamlet s son, is brought to the castle. There, it is confirmed that the ghost is of King Hamlet, and the
ghost tells Prince Hamlet that he was murdered by none other than Claudius. King Hamlet wants the
Prince to avenge his death.
After this, Prince Hamlet becomes obsessed with seeking revenge upon Claudius. However, as he is
thoughtful and not violent, he waits, and descends into a depressive, obsessed madness. The King and
Queen are concerned for Hamlet s behaviour and hire his two friends Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to
watch him and look for signs of madness. The Lord Chamberlain, Polonius, suggest that Hamlet may
be deeply in love with his daughter Ophelia, however Hamlet shows no signs of being in love and
instead, claims that he wishes marriage to be banned and that Ophelia should be sent to a nunnery. ...

Clark Accomplishments
Beginning on February 9, 1779, Clark and his men embarked for Vincennes 240 miles away through
the now flooded region. The major faced a test of morality as the company trudged through frozen dirt
and in freezing waters. In the rain, the troops sung to keep high hopes and when they were close
enough to the village, Clark had to post a riflemen at the rear to encourage the tired individuals (Davis

tallow, and kettles. After devouring their finds, the unit made it the final miles within eyesight of Fort

Airline Deregulation Act Of 1978 Signed
INTRODUCTION
Airline deregulation was the process of removing the government imposed regulations on the entry of
new airlines as well the airline fare limiting the competition and growth of the airline industry. In the
United States, airline deregulation mainly refers to the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978 signed by
President Carter. President Carter signed the Act, but the act was proposed initially during Nixon s
administration, and carried through Ford administration. The airlines industry was growing
dramatically during 1960s and mid 1970s. Due to the steady increase in air travel, and strict
regulations imposed by the Civil Aeronautics Board, the industry faced three major difficulties lack of
free and stable market, high ticket prices leading to poor productivity, and rising labor and fuel costs.
Airlines have adopted many new strategies ever since the industry has been deregulated. The path
since the deregulation has been challenging, as the airlines have faced various hurdles such as
terrorism, war, recession, high fuel prices over the years impacting the economic structure of the
United States. These challenges have raised the question concerning whether the deregulation should
be considered or even reversed.
I will start with providing a short history about the deregulation process of the airline industry, in the
next section. The history will assist in understanding the free market that exists today. In the third
section, I will explain the key factors behind

Ford Motor Company Case Analysis Essay
Throughout the late twentieth century, the Ford Motor Company received numerous complaints
regarding incidents involving their vehicles. Consumers of Ford vehicles reported that at least one of
their tires spontaneous blew out while driving at highway speeds; more often than not, these accidents
resulted in the driver losing control and rolling the vehicle, causing injury or death. After numerous
lawsuits, lawyers began to notice a trend. Through multiple clients, they observed the majority of
incidents involved Firestone tires on light Ford trucks, particularly the Ford Explorer. From the
inception of the Ford Motor Company, Firestone Tires had been a primary supplier of original
equipment for Ford vehicles. In the earlier 1990s, the company became the sole supplier of original
equipment for light duty Ford Trucks. The Ford Explorer became the number one selling sport utility
vehicle in the USA, meaning millions of potentially defective Firestone tires were out on the
highways. Outside investigations found numerous issues with the Firestone Tires. One of the root
issues began with the trucks rolling off of the Ford assembly lines. Their tires would be underinflated
to only twenty six psi, rather than thirty psi, as recommended by Firestone. The tires pressures will
naturally decrease over time, thus causing the tires to become dangerously low on air. As the tires
deflate, more rubber makes contact with the road, increasing the amount of friction between surfaces.

Theme Of Alcohol In A Streetcar Named Want
I was so smashed the previous evening that I undermined my better half, however I don t recall it, so
does it check? Individuals intuitively attempt to put fault on anything besides themselves, and liquor
presents itself as the ideal escape course for a feeling of remorse. Individuals regularly wind up
settling on imprudent choices all the more as often as possible while affected by liquor. In any case,
what amount of poor conduct would alcohol be able to pardon before a man must acknowledge the
results for their own behavior? Tennessee Williams dives into the topic of liquor reliance all through
his play, A Streetcar Named Want. All through the play, both Blanche and Stanley appear to depend
vigorously upon alcohol. Liquor is utilized as both a brace and a reason for poor conduct in A
Streetcar Named Want, and has turned out to be much more predominant in the present society.
All through A Streetcar Named Want, Blanche Dubois, the hero, as often as possible uses liquor to get

1848 Women s Rights Convention Essay
Through out history, Americans have fought for the rights of freedom in their country, freedoms that
have been passed down through dozen s of generations. Freedom s such as religion, speech, press,
slavery and the right to vote. Americans, though very aware of their freedoms, often take them for
granted and forget the struggles that their ancestors went through to obtain them. One example of this
struggle is a woman s right to be treated and looked upon by the government as equals. This was not
an easy battle to win, and it took a strong few to begin to bring the struggle that women had faced for
centuries to an end.
The need for women s rights began back in colonial America where women were referred to as ...

Essay Comparing Popol Vuh And The Odyssey
Popol Vuh and The Odyssey are epic stories that are considered, cultural touchstones; they dramatize
the life of a nation and help bind it together (Lawall, 3076). The two stories both form a connection to
the culture of Mayan, Popol Vuh, and Greek, The Odyssey, partly through the monsters that preside in
each epic. Because of the detailed descriptions of monsters or evil people and the known information
pertaining to each story s culture, the two can be connected. Therefore, Popol Vuh and The Odyssey
are comparable by cultures through the monsters that each story depicts. The monsters in Popol Vuh,
known as the lords of the underworld, are extremely important to Mayan Culture. In the cycle of tales
that comprises Part 3, the most celebrated portion of the Popol Vuh, Hunahpu and Xblanque vanquish
the lords of the Maya underworld, called Xibalba (a term of obscure etymology, provisionally
translated place of fright ). This material, likewise, is Central American and quintessentially Mayan.
Scenes from the story are preserved on painted vases of the classic period, recovered by archaeologists
from Maya burial chambers. Evidently, the sequence of events, in which the heroes twin fathers, One

The Characteristics Of Alexander Hamilton As AAmerican Hero
America has long been considered a great, powerful country. From its beginning, the United States
had the potential to be something revolutionary. The idea of a democracy was, in the 1700 s, strange.
While many men are regarded as key elements in the birth of America, one man stands out, despite his
sometimes being overshadowed by fellow Founding Fathers. Alexander Hamilton was an immigrant,
soldier, and the first Secretary of the United States Treasury, among his other contributions to
America. He had dreams for his adopted country and was highly determined to see them to fruition
and create a new, remarkable nation. Alexander Hamilton embodies the characteristics of an epic hero
because he was a great warrior, he was capable of great deeds of strength and courage, and he is a
national hero. Alexander Hamilton is known as a great statesman, but he also exhibited the epic hero
trait of a great warrior. He volunteered to fight in the Revolutionary War, then was promoted to
lieutenant colonel and aide de camp under George Washington. During his time as a secretary and aide
de camp for Washington, he longed deeply for military glory. Hamilton s traits as a great warrior are
demonstrated in abundance throughout the Revolutionary War:
He commanded his guns in the battles of Long Island, helped fortify Harlem Heights, and employed
two artillery pieces effectively at White Plains. He led his company throughout the New Jersey
campaign and saw action at Trenton and Princeton.

IBM s Decade of Transformation: Turnaround to
Growth
This is my last annual letter to you. By the time you read this, Sam Palmisano will be our new chief
executive officer, the eighth in IBM s history. He will be responsible for shaping our strategic
direction as well as leading our operations. . . . I want to use this occasion to offer my perspective on
what lies ahead for our industry. To many observers today, its future is unclear, following perhaps the
worst year in its history. A lot of people chalk that up to the recession and the dot com bubble. They
seem to believe that when the economies of the world recover, life in the ... Show more content on

IBM s Decade of Transformation: Turnaround to Growth
In March 2002, Gerstner passed the reins of power to Sam Palmisano, a 31 year company veteran, to
complete the transformation. Palmisano and the senior executive team were committed to returning
the company to greatness. [Our problems in the late 1980s and early 1990s] were our own fault, Nick
Donofrio, senior vice president, Technology and Manufacturing, explained. We are driven by a
passion that says: Never again. 1 IBM visionary, Irving Wladawsky Berger was reminded of the
1950s, when a series of technology asteroids had created seismic shifts in the computer industry,
opening the way for the IBM System/360 to become the dominant design for the next 40 years. The
launch of the S/360 catalyzed a period of IT enabled business innovation that created new industries
even as it transformed established industries and the organizations that competed with them. During
that period IBM was viewed as the greatest company in the world,
Palmisano explained. Palmisano, Wladawsky Berger, and the executive team at IBM believed that the
Internet and associated network technologies had catalyzed a period of technological revolution that
would usher in a new era of IT enabled business innovation that would be

The Pros And Cons Of The Democratic-Republican Party
In 1792, the world s oldest political party, the Democratic Party, was founded. During the presidency
of President Andrew Jackson in 1830, the party adopted its name as the Democratic Party as it is
known now. Prior to the renaming of the party, it was known as the Democratic Republican Party
founded by James Madison, and Thomas Jefferson in opposition of the Federalist Party. The
Democratic Party s purposed served to supported states rights and the strict interpretation of the
Constitution (Mayne, 1). Correspondingly, providing financial support to family based agriculture was
one of their main priorities (Mayne, 1). The Federalist Party, their opposition, consisted of wealthy
elites that strived, and fought for one strong all ruling national government, rather than state
governments. As the United States had just recently become independent, the Democratic Republican
Party was determined to prevent the United States from becoming a monarchy. Over the next century,
the Democratic Republican party began to split due to the lack of agreement on major ideas which led
to the current two party system. However, some ideologies remain the same such as moral stance, and
socioeconomic status. Other ideologies like economic view and stance on government power have
caused this split between the Democratic and Republican parties (Mayne, 22). It is imperative to
remember that even though these two parties are completely different, they originated from the same
party with one main goal; To create a government that is run for and by its people (Mayne, 23). I have
still not developed a political identity, but over the past three years of my residence in the United
States, I am more in favor of the Democratic Party and what they stand for. At first, the Democratic
Party started out as the conservative party and the Republicans were the liberals. However, over time,
the Democratic Party has associated itself with social liberalism. Social liberalism is a political
ideology which states that individual liberty requires social justice (DeMichele, 11). To be more
precise, social liberal values include: equal pay, importance of women s rights and healthcare rights,
pro safety, a progressive approach to taxation, and union

Civil Disobedience Movement
Civil disobedience, also called passive resistance, refusal to obey the demands or commands of a
government or occupying power, without resorting to violence or active measures of opposition; its
usual purpose is to force concessions from the government or occupying power. (Britannica) Civil
disobedience has become a major tactic in many countries, especially India and Africa. Civil
disobedience cannot be characterized as a complete refusal of a system, instead it is a ritualistic
violation of the law. The movement and the acts such as protests that take place because of it are
actually considered crimes and are punishable. The punished civil disobedient aims to provoke the
government into yielding a political or economic change. Nevertheless, ... Show more content on

The Mass Extermination Of European Jews
Alexander Burgazzoli History 233 Exam 3 December 6, 2013 The mass extermination of European
Jews was, without a doubt due to the actions of the Third Reich. The question up for debate was
whether this extermination was a product of Adolf Hitler s methodical planning and execution under
his direct order, or the accumulation of unplanned events driven by the Germans anti Semitic views?
These two polar opposite views of intentionalism and structuralism both have convincing evidence
that support each of their own theories. The intentionalism theory views Hitler as the mastermind
behind the Final Solution, and all the events that led up to the death of nearly six million Jews. It is
their idea that Hitler had been planning the annihilation of the Jewish community even years prior to
him taking complete control over Germany. The anti Semitic view, the greater part of the German
population shared could have been the driving force that leads structuralism ideas to form. This long
lasting hatred for Jews, especially after enduring such a humiliating defeat in World War I only gave
the rest of Germany more reason to turn on the Jews. They view these mass murders as simply an
unplanned set of circumstances that lead to the Final Solution. If one is looking at the Nazi party from
an intentionalist view point you could argue of a systematic chain of command that flowed from Hitler
through all the ranks bellow him. This ideology had the perception that what could

Cahoki Article Analysis
Speaking of skeletal remains, there is evidence of body modification at Cahokia. Gregory Perino
discovered filed teeth at Cahokia. These findings showed observers that this practice was only done
for a short period of time in the transition from Late Woodland Period to the Mississippian period.
According to Perino, the siginificance of filing teeth cannot be explicitly determined but majority of
them were thought to be ambassadors; but the fact that these filings were also found on young
persons, throw off the conclusively of saying this was due to differentiating in social status (Perino
1967:541). Public works, as defined in class, would be some kind of monumental or public

Flannery and Marcus discuss in our textbook about the social renown that comes from agriculture. It is
also the case that for most parts of the world, Rousseau was right: not until people had begun to raise
crops or animals do we see signs of emerging inequality (Flannery and Marcus 2012:91). This is
especially true for Cahokia. In Cahokia, food storage changed in the Mississippian period. Woods, in
his article, points out the fact that there is archeological evidence for food storage as being a
communal event at Cahokia and that Cahokian households typically lacked a storage place of their
own, which gave rise to the need for a large, community based facility (2004:149). This was not
always the case. There was evidence back in the Late Woodland period, prior to the Mississippian
Period that shows there were domestic storage features in households and little evidence for
communal storage. The rise of communal storage also gives rise to social power of the elites. ... the
institutionalization of social ranking, DeBoer contends that There is no mystery to the absences of
subterranean storage in such circumstances. It is expected (Woods 2004:154). This being said, the
change from subterranean food storage to aboveground food storage changed once Cahokia elites
were gaining more and more power and becoming redistributors. This is an exemplary indication of
social inequality. The chiefs and elites control the food storage and how much gets redistributed and
how much goes back in to replace what was used. The producers and consumers of the food do not get

Vernacular Architecture Identity Essay

How is identity shaped through our design, production and use of architecture?
Theme The idea of the vernacular architecture as identity
The search for a cogent Australian architectural idiom.
The idea of the vernacular is strong in Australian architecture and is often defined in terms of the city

Memmot (2007) explains how Indigenous building methods, based on semi permanent structures
utilized original styles, local materials and, like their culture. They were poetically wedded to the
distinct sense of place for which this isolated continent is renowned. Indigenous architecture is pure
vernacular (Memmot 2007). While this is respectfully acknowledged, this essay will examine the
period after European settlement, during which Australian architecture has sourced the bulk of
materials and styles internationally and has never been purely vernacular (Drew 2006). For example,
while corrugated iron is seen as Australian it was produced in the steel mills in England and heavily
used throughout Britain and the British Empire. Drew (2006) discusses how it is accepted that since
1788, Australian vernacular buildings have always contained a plethora of international influences
both stylistic and material and were never truly original or unique in the same manner of Indigenous
vernacular shelters. Consequently, the aim is to find architecture which possesses vernacular elements
that overshadow the universal, international elements. To substantiate the arguments and isolate a
period in Australia s history, two case studies from the Mid 20th century will be examined The Rose
Seidler House (figure 2), by Harry Seidler and the Curry House 2 (figure 3), by Bruce Rickard.

Democratization Of Democracy And Autocracy In The United...
The government of the independent states of the world is usually either autocracy or democracy.
Autocracy refers to a system where one person has absolute power over a nation. Democracy is a
system of government by the whole population or all eligible members of a state, typically through
elected representatives. The first wave of democratization started in the early 19th century and
persisted until the 1920 s after which many democracies reverted to autocracy. Many democracies
failed, creating the first reverse wave. After World War II had ended, the second wave of
democratization came along. It was relatively brief with the bulk of countries deferring to autocracy
by the 1950 s. The mid 1970 s brought the third wave of democratization which continued in ... Show

During this time, the world saw as many as 33 democracies worldwide ( Stanford University News
Service, 1993, p. 1). By 1942, as World War II was underway, the number of democracies dropped to
11. A notable improvement to democracy in the United States during this wave is that on August 26,
1920, women were granted the right to vote (Golbin Goodman, 2016, p. 1). The second wave of
democratization began following World War II. With the allied victory over Nazi Germany, the world
acknowledged up to 52 democracies between 1943 and 1962. Democracy was imposed on the losing
countries and suffrage was expanded to include all males. Countries such as Germany and Italy
reestablished democracies, and a large number of European third world countries achieved their
independence (Shively, 2014, p. 153). While many democracies survived, many also fell to military
coups. Transitions between autocracy and democracy between 1950 and 1990 occurred mostly in
Latin America. The United States at this time was as always improving democracy. Many notable
things happened during this time to include the 1954 decision by the United States Supreme Court to

Comparing the Characters of Faustus and Hamlet
Both Hamlet and Faustus contain a clash of themes and traditions, all catalysed by Religion. This is
used to establish a theme of deception, which greatly impacts the protagonist s procrastination.
Procrastination is considered to be Hamlet s tragic flaw, however Faustus s flaw is considered to be
his hubris.
Hamlet is in fact a play adapted by Shakespeare, not by name. But there are several scriptures that can
be identified to being similar to the plot. One is called Saga of Hrolf Kraki. Believed to be
Scandinavian. The second is the Roman legend of Brutus. In Shakespeare s version Hamlet is the

Therefore we can assume that Faustus is a protestant, but it can be argued that Marlowe could have
possibly made this protestant connection in his defence to cease all accusations about him being a
practicing catholic. Hence, the scene where Faustus appears to be mocking the pope.
The pay is built upon Hamlet s hesitation over fulfilling the task of revenge that is assigned to him: but
its text offers no reason or motives for these hesitations
(Sigmund Freud)
This comment gives us an insight that Hamlet s tragic flaw is in fact his procrastination to killing
Claudius. Although the literal text does not offer a valid reason for his procrastination, the sub text
imposes a compelling argument.
I am thy father s spirit, Doom d for a certain term to walk the night, and for the day confined to fast in
fires, till the foul crimes done in my days of nature are burnt and purged away
(1.5.9)
The ghost appears before Hamlet and claims to be the spirit of his father; he also mentions that he is in
purgatory. While belief in Purgatory remains part of Roman Catholic teaching today, the Protestant
Reformers explicitly rejected it in the sixteenth century1. This suggests that the ghost is a catholic,
which may not have made a difference to Hamlet s character, however although the play s story is set
in the late middle ages (before the Protestant Reformation),

reflect and support the civilization, culture and finances of Bilbao (6). Nevertheless, the Guggenheim
Museum Bilbao is the zenith of Gehry s architectural career. Another masterpiece of Gehry is the Walt
Disney Concert Hall located in Los Angeles. It is located on a historically (Bunker Hill) and culturally
prominent downtown site adjoining the existing Music Center of Los Angeles (7). It all started in 1987
when the late Lillian Disney, wife of the late Walt Disney, made an initial contribution of $50 million
to build a first class performance venue as a gift to the people of Los Angeles and as homage to Walt
Disney s zeal to the arts (8). Over time many

The Snake River History
The Snake River is the largest tributary of the Columbia River in the Pacific Northwest. One of the
most important rivers in the region, it rises in the mountains of the Continental Divide near the
southeastern corner of Yellowstone National Park and flows through Idaho and Oregon before finally
emptying into the Columbia River in Washington. Fifteen dams have been built on the 1040 mile
Snake River and its tributaries, mainly for purposes of providing irrigation water and hydroelectric
power, ranging in size from small diversion dams to major high dams. While the many dams have
transformed the region s economy, they have also had an adverse environmental effect on wildlife,
most notably on wild salmon migrations. Nearby Hells Canyon is one ... Show more content on

Early fur traders and explorers noted regional trading centers, and archaeological evidence has shown
some to be of considerable antiquity. One such trading center in the Weiser area existed as early as
4,500 years ago. On the Snake River in southeastern Washington there are several ancient sites. One
of the oldest and most well known is called the Marmes Rockshelter, which was used from over
11,000 years ago to relatively recent times. Eventually, two large Native American groups controlled
most of the Snake River: the Nez Perce, whose territory stretched from the southeastern Columbia
Plateau into northern Oregon and western Idaho, and the Shoshone, who occupied the Snake River
Plain both above and below Shoshone Falls. Below Shoshone Falls, the economy centered on salmon,
who often came up the river in enormous numbers. Salmon were the mainstay of the Nez Perce and
most of the other tribes below Shoshone Falls. Above the falls, life was significantly different. The
Snake River Plain forms one of the only relatively easy paths across the main Rocky Mountains for
many hundreds of miles, allowing Native Americans both east and west of the mountains to interact.
As a result, the Shoshone centered on a trading

Food Productivity And Its Impact On The United States Essay
Meanwhile, another 3 billion people are going to need somewhere to live. By 2050, 70% of us are
going to be living in cities. This century will see the rapid expansion of cities, as well as the
emergence of entirely new cities that do not yet exist. It s worth mentioning that of the 19 Brazilian
cities that have doubled in population in the past decade, 10 are in the Amazon. All this is going to use
yet more land.
We currently have no known means of being able to feed 10 billion of us at our current rate of
consumption and with our current agricultural system. Indeed, simply to feed ourselves in the next 40
years, we will need to produce more food than the entire agricultural output of the past 10,000 years
combined. Yet food productivity is set to decline, possibly very sharply, over the coming decades due
to climate change; soil degradation and desertification, both of which are increasing rapidly in many
parts of the world; and water stress. By the end of this century, large parts of the planet will not have
any usable water.
At the same time, the global shipping and airline sectors are projected to continue to expand rapidly
every year, transporting more of us, and more of the stuff we want to consume, around the planet year
on year. That is going to cause enormous problems for us in terms of more CO2 emissions, more black
carbon, and more pollution from mining and processing to make all this stuff.
But think about this. In transporting us and our stuff all over the

How Is Tom Sawyer Selfish
In The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain, Tom Sawyer is a hard kid to pin down. Not just
literally, either. While he s jumping over fences and getting lost and tricking everyone into thinking he
s dead, you keep going back and forth from thinking you know what kind of character traits he holds.
He keeps the reader in constant confusion throughout the whole book, at least that s what he did for
me. Just when his selflessness shines through, there s just as much emphasis, if not more, on his
mischievous or selfish ways. He appears in three other novels by Twain: Adventures of Huckleberry
Finn, Tom Sawyer Abroad, and Tom Sawyer, Detective. Sawyer also appears in at least three
unfinished Twain works, Huck and Tom Among the Indians, Schoolhouse Hill, and Tom Sawyer s
Conspiracy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He s always playing hooky. However, he s also saving lives, such as Muff Potter s. He tries to teach
Huck the ways of robbers and pirates, all the while trying to get him to go back to the Widow s and
live in society. Most readers are familiar with his mischievous deeds, though we shouldn t forget about
when Becky rips the teacher s anatomy book. Tom took accountability for tearing it when Ms.
Dobbins urged the culprit to come clean. Though this brings more uncertainty, as there are some hints
that Tom was still getting pleasure from taking the blame, such as when the book states that the
adoration in Becky s eyes is so valuable that it is worth one thousand floggings from Ms. Dobbins.
These examples are some of the main reasons for the disarray in Tom s

Tyson Foods Case Study
To: Buffalo Wild Wings From: Michael Gaudern, FSQA Consumer Relations Product: 15927 1258
Thank you for contacting Tyson Foods, Inc. regarding the Boneless Breaded Chunks you received that
contained pieces outside of the individual target weight range. We are committed to delivering the
highest quality product to our customers. Your feedback helps to provide us with the information
necessary to continue to improve our performance. When a product is designed a specification is
created to determine the standards for the product. In manufacturing these standards are given an
allowable range. The most common attributes for these types of products are size, shape, color,
weight, and piece count. The standards placed on these attributes determine the material used,
equipment needed for processing, and labor. The tighter the standards are on these attributes the higher
the cost is to produce. In today s market, there is a demand to produce high quality products at
competitive price ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The production date code is printed on each case of product and will be in a format of 4 numbers, 3
letters, and 4 to 6 numbers. For example, this code would be similar to 0225VIC0216. This
information would give us the day, production facility, line, and time the product was produced. With
this information our team is able to review the production paperwork and product if available to
complete a proper investigation. The production date code also helps us track the complaints to
determine if there are similar reports or if the production date code reported is isolated. Piece count
information is extremely helpful as there will be pieces out of the weight range, however, still within
the allowable piece count range. It would also aid our team to know if the pieces are being weighed on
a scale or culled out by

  • 2. Tissue Aging Research Paper Among the diseases and disorders associated with advancing age, one of the most debilitating is the loss of normal cardiac function leading to heart failure. Heart failure affects approximately 1% of individuals over 50 and over 5% of individuals over 75. With the ongoing steep rise in the proportion of elderly individuals within our population (Schocken et al., 2008), age related heart failure is becoming increasingly prevalent. Most age related heart failure occurs in the setting of normal systolic function and is called diastolic heart failure, in contrast to systolic heart failure (Aurigemma, 2006). Although progress has been made in the treatment of systolic heart failure, with substantial improvements in outcome over the past two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These experiments reveal that the cardiac hypertrophy of aging is at least in part mediated by circulating factors and led to the discovery that systemic growth differentiation factor 11 (GDF11), a TGF β family member, can reverse age related cardiac hypertrophy. These data suggest that at least one pathologic component of age related diastolic heart failure is hormonal in nature and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Moon Compare To The Moons Of Other Planets Project 1: How Does the Moon Compare to the Moons of Other Planets Earth s moon did not always exist. According to a theory known as the Big Whack, a roving planetoid, Theia, and the ancient Earth were on the same plane in the solar system. Theia, which is believed to have been at least the size of Mars, collided with the ancient Earth approximately 4.5 billion years ago. The resulting debris, material from the ancient Earth s mantle, is what is said to have formed our current day moon. All of the debris broke off of the ancient Earth and proceeded to fill the air. All of this debris then eventually congealed and formed a solid moon. When making a comparison between our moon and those of other planets it is interesting to view the number of moons each planet has, their size, and their proportion of mass as compared to the planet. Within the terrestrial planets, Mercury and Venus do not have moons, Earth has one moon, and Mars has two. Earth has only one moon and this moon is only 1.2% of the mass of Earth. Mars has two moons and they are 0.00002% of the mass of the planet. The Jovian planets have a much larger number of moons. Jupiter has sixty seven, Saturn has fifty three, Uranus has twenty seven, and Neptune has thirteen. Jupiter s many moons are 0.013% of the mass of the planet as a whole. Saturn s moon are 0.04% of the planet s mass. Uranus moons comprise 0.01% of the mass of the planet. Finally, Neptune s moons make up 0.02% of the planet s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Examples Of Resistance To Change The most dramatic example of resistance to change that I have encountered has been the change to an electronic medication administration record (MAR) and electronic treatment administration record (TAR). In response to some major systems issues with the paper MAR/TAR system, the corporate team for our skilled nursing facility (SNF) decided that our facility would transition to an eMAR/eTAR system. However, this was not communicated to the facility until the Monday prior to the anticipated Friday rollout. The facility was also in our survey window and State was expected any day. • 5. Importance Of The Pillars Of Public Administration Pillars of Public Administration and Application to PA Leadership Understanding the pillars of public administration is a vital way for leaders to gain perspective when leading successfully. Among these six pillars of public administration, the leadership style addresses a connection with any civic organization. Politics/administration dichotomy when viewing this opposition, it should be seen as politicians writing and making rules while bureaucrats implement and put in place the policies and programs for the public to utilize. Administration and politics are seen as two separate components where they should not interface with one another. Even with them being a separate field of study, they have no choice but to integrate. As Woodrow Wilson looked at how politics and administration were forming, he felt the importance of government employees conduct themselves in a professional business manner while ensuring their accountability of providing proper services to the people and not partake in political philosophies. Politics are aligned with elected officials who write and pass the policies to be implemented by government agencies which are then applied by civil servants. By achieving this responsibility, public sector employees are required to embrace the values and principles to ensure efficiency, legitimacy, and fairness within any level of government. Therefore, public administrators are seen to uphold integrity within government, be liable to the public and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Teachers Do Not Focus On Phonics Introduction There are a lot of misconceptions and misinformation out there concerning how educators can teach reading, spelling and writing in school classrooms today. A common misconception is that teachers do not focus on phonics anymore or that starting teachers do not have any understanding of how to teach phonics. So, what exactly is phonics in education? And, how can educators teach phonics and the appropriate way to interpret or comprehend the written codes found in different words? This essay develops a better understanding of phonics and the various teaching approaches that teachers can use to teach phonics effectively toward enhancing engagement and motivation of student learning. Phonics focuses on the sound letter relationships used in reading and writing, and involves an understanding of the alphabetic principle the idea that spoken language is made up of sounds and these sounds can be mapped to written letters (Hill, 2015, p. 241). Phonics entails phonemic awareness or alphabet knowledge that is, converting various sounds in spoken dialect and representing them in the written language. For children to learn to read and spell using phonics, they must understand the relationship between sounds (phonemes) and letters or letter combinations (graphemes) and then remember the specific letter sequences and patterns used in different speech sounds. Phonics instruction thus focuses on developing the relationship between spoken language and written dialect. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Broken Window Theory Analysis window breaks in an abandoned building in a neighborhood and it is not fixed, then more windows will be broken and graffiti will occur. In turn, this will make honest people afraid to leave their homes, and only the mischievous people who want to cause trouble will be out on the streets reeking havoc. Thus producing crime. Fixing Broken Windows offers a very desiccated but persuasive look at how to reform the modern criminal justice system by looking at three different aspects: the rise of crime rates in the middle of the 1960 s; the fact that the police are in a reactive role; and how the broken windows theory actually works. The authors state that in the middle of the 1960 s the connection between fear and disorder was recognized. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The authors also state that the police are now in a reactive role. This means that they respond to crime, rather than preventing it. Police officers stopped foot patrol and began responding to 911 calls. Many people advocate the restoration of foot patrol for all areas. Foot patrolling is called community policing and consists of two elements community partnership and problem solving. The police must increase positive relationships with citizens to improve crime control and prevention. To be successful, community policing programs must operate on a neighborhood scale, finding solutions to neighborhood problems. Successful programs recognize that something, which works well in one neighborhood, may be totally inappropriate for another. Problems must be identified and solutions developed one neighborhood at a time. Community Policing does not propose that we stop fighting crime and disorder, but that officers employ new and innovative strategies. We must become pro active in preventive rather than reactive. Enforcement is very much a part of the concept. Officers are encouraged to give warnings whenever possible; however, they are still required to make traffic stops and arrests. There is still an emphasis on drunken driving, drugs and juvenile crime. The community should not have the mistaken perception that all enforcement has stopped just because the officers are being friendly . • 9. Teaching Phonics Essay Phonics is described as understanding letter sound relationships, as well as larger letter pattern/sound pattern relationships (Ruddell, 2009). Though in my opinion there is a lot more to phonics than this. There are several aspects to phonics, different types of phonics, negatives to the idea, and several ways to teach it. In this paper I will address all of these based on research I found, the discussion I had with my peers, and my own opinion. There are different aspects to phonics that should be taken into account by teachers. The first is how important phonics is to children. It is said that both phonics and fluency need to be taught, practiced, and nurtured in the earliest stages of reading instruction and provided to students at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This means that they need to have to know effective ways to teach it and how to use the various types, which will be talked about in this paper. There are several different types of phonics but the two main types are implicit and explicit (Ruddell, 2009). The implicit approach, or analytic, is when the teacher teaches the relation between sounds and letters in the context of the word it is found in. This means you are looking at the whole word and not isolating sounds. The explicit approach, or synthetic, approach is the opposite of the analytic approach. Instead of looking at the word as a whole, the teacher looks at each individual sound (Ruddell, 2009). From what I know I believe that both of these need to be brought into the classroom. It is important for the child to know each sound so they are able to sound out unfamiliar words in their readings but it is also important for them to be able to recognize a word in context so they can identify words easily and quicker. In my experience in classrooms I have noticed the different ways these approaches were used. In my kindergarten placement the teacher usually used the explicit approach. Each day we would concentrate on two or three letters and the sounds they made. We would practice the pronunciation and read a poem or sing a song with the letter in it. In my second grade class the teacher had a very different way. She would have the children look at the whole ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Ford Motor Company Case Analysis Essay Throughout the late twentieth century, the Ford Motor Company received numerous complaints regarding incidents involving their vehicles. Consumers of Ford vehicles reported that at least one of their tires spontaneous blew out while driving at highway speeds; more often than not, these accidents resulted in the driver losing control and rolling the vehicle, causing injury or death. After numerous lawsuits, lawyers began to notice a trend. Through multiple clients, they observed the majority of incidents involved Firestone tires on light Ford trucks, particularly the Ford Explorer. From the inception of the Ford Motor Company, Firestone Tires had been a primary supplier of original equipment for Ford vehicles. In the earlier 1990s, the company became the sole supplier of original equipment for light duty Ford Trucks. The Ford Explorer became the number one selling sport utility vehicle in the USA, meaning millions of potentially defective Firestone tires were out on the highways. Outside investigations found numerous issues with the Firestone Tires. One of the root issues began with the trucks rolling off of the Ford assembly lines. Their tires would be underinflated to only twenty six psi, rather than thirty psi, as recommended by Firestone. The tires pressures will naturally decrease over time, thus causing the tires to become dangerously low on air. Essay Comparing Popol Vuh And The Odyssey Popol Vuh and The Odyssey are epic stories that are considered, cultural touchstones; they dramatize the life of a nation and help bind it together (Lawall, 3076). The two stories both form a connection to the culture of Mayan, Popol Vuh, and Greek, The Odyssey, partly through the monsters that preside in each epic. Because of the detailed descriptions of monsters or evil people and the known information pertaining to each story s culture, the two can be connected. From its beginning, the United States had the potential to be something revolutionary. The idea of a democracy was, in the 1700 s, strange. While many men are regarded as key elements in the birth of America, one man stands out, despite his sometimes being overshadowed by fellow Founding Fathers. Alexander Hamilton was an immigrant, soldier, and the first Secretary of the United States Treasury, among his other contributions to America. He had dreams for his adopted country and was highly determined to see them to fruition and create a new, remarkable nation. Alexander Hamilton embodies the characteristics of an epic hero because he was a great warrior, he was capable of great deeds of strength and courage, and he is a national hero. Alexander Hamilton is known as a great statesman, but he also exhibited the epic hero trait of a great warrior. He volunteered to fight in the Revolutionary War, then was promoted to lieutenant colonel and aide de camp under George Washington. During his time as a secretary and aide de camp for Washington, he longed deeply for military glory. • 28. The Pros And Cons Of The Democratic-Republican Party In 1792, the world s oldest political party, the Democratic Party, was founded. During the presidency of President Andrew Jackson in 1830, the party adopted its name as the Democratic Party as it is known now. Prior to the renaming of the party, it was known as the Democratic Republican Party founded by James Madison, and Thomas Jefferson in opposition of the Federalist Party. The Democratic Party s purposed served to supported states rights and the strict interpretation of the Constitution (Mayne, 1). Correspondingly, providing financial support to family based agriculture was one of their main priorities (Mayne, 1). The Federalist Party, their opposition, consisted of wealthy elites that strived, and fought for one strong all ruling national government, rather than state governments. As the United States had just recently become independent, the Democratic Republican Party was determined to prevent the United States from becoming a monarchy. Over the next century, the Democratic Republican party began to split due to the lack of agreement on major ideas which led to the current two party system. However, some ideologies remain the same such as moral stance, and socioeconomic status. Other ideologies like economic view and stance on government power have caused this split between the Democratic and Republican parties (Mayne, 22). It is imperative to remember that even though these two parties are completely different, they originated from the same party with one main goal; To create a government that is run for and by its people (Mayne, 23). I have still not developed a political identity, but over the past three years of my residence in the United States, I am more in favor of the Democratic Party and what they stand for. At first, the Democratic Party started out as the conservative party and the Republicans were the liberals. However, over time, the Democratic Party has associated itself with social liberalism. Social liberalism is a political ideology which states that individual liberty requires social justice (DeMichele, 11). To be more precise, social liberal values include: equal pay, importance of women s rights and healthcare rights, pro safety, a progressive approach to taxation, and union ... The Mass Extermination Of European Jews Alexander Burgazzoli History 233 Exam 3 December 6, 2013 The mass extermination of European Jews was, without a doubt due to the actions of the Third Reich. The question up for debate was whether this extermination was a product of Adolf Hitler s methodical planning and execution under his direct order, or the accumulation of unplanned events driven by the Germans anti Semitic views? These two polar opposite views of intentionalism and structuralism both have convincing evidence that support each of their own theories. The intentionalism theory views Hitler as the mastermind behind the Final Solution, and all the events that led up to the death of nearly six million Jews. It is their idea that Hitler had been planning the annihilation of the Jewish community even years prior to him taking complete control over Germany. The anti Semitic view, the greater part of the German population shared could have been the driving force that leads structuralism ideas to form. This long lasting hatred for Jews, especially after enduring such a humiliating defeat in World War I only gave the rest of Germany more reason to turn on the Jews. They view these mass murders as simply an unplanned set of circumstances that lead to the Final Solution. It is also the case that for most parts of the world, Rousseau was right: not until people had begun to raise crops or animals do we see signs of emerging inequality (Flannery and Marcus 2012:91). This is especially true for Cahokia. In Cahokia, food storage changed in the Mississippian period. Woods, in his article, points out the fact that there is archeological evidence for food storage as being a communal event at Cahokia and that Cahokian households typically lacked a storage place of their own, which gave rise to the need for a large, community based facility (2004:149). This was not always the case. They were poetically wedded to the distinct sense of place for which this isolated continent is renowned. Indigenous architecture is pure vernacular (Memmot 2007). While this is respectfully acknowledged, this essay will examine the period after European settlement, during which Australian architecture has sourced the bulk of materials and styles internationally and has never been purely vernacular (Drew 2006). For example, while corrugated iron is seen as Australian it was produced in the steel mills in England and heavily used throughout Britain and the British Empire. Drew (2006) discusses how it is accepted that since 1788, Australian vernacular buildings have always contained a plethora of international influences both stylistic and material and were never truly original or unique in the same manner of Indigenous vernacular shelters. Consequently, the aim is to find architecture which possesses vernacular elements that overshadow the universal, international elements. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Early fur traders and explorers noted regional trading centers, and archaeological evidence has shown some to be of considerable antiquity. One such trading center in the Weiser area existed as early as 4,500 years ago. On the Snake River in southeastern Washington there are several ancient sites. One of the oldest and most well known is called the Marmes Rockshelter, which was used from over 11,000 years ago to relatively recent times. Eventually, two large Native American groups controlled most of the Snake River: the Nez Perce, whose territory stretched from the southeastern Columbia Plateau into northern Oregon and western Idaho, and the Shoshone, who occupied the Snake River Plain both above and below Shoshone Falls. Below Shoshone Falls, the economy centered on salmon, who often came up the river in enormous numbers. Salmon were the mainstay of the Nez Perce and most of the other tribes below Shoshone Falls. Above the falls, life was significantly different. The Snake River Plain forms one of the only relatively easy paths across the main Rocky Mountains for many hundreds of miles, allowing Native Americans both east and west of the mountains to interact. As a result, the Shoshone centered on a trading ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Food Productivity And Its Impact On The United States Essay Meanwhile, another 3 billion people are going to need somewhere to live. By 2050, 70% of us are going to be living in cities. This century will see the rapid expansion of cities, as well as the emergence of entirely new cities that do not yet exist. It s worth mentioning that of the 19 Brazilian cities that have doubled in population in the past decade, 10 are in the Amazon. All this is going to use yet more land. We currently have no known means of being able to feed 10 billion of us at our current rate of consumption and with our current agricultural system. Indeed, simply to feed ourselves in the next 40 years, we will need to produce more food than the entire agricultural output of the past 10,000 years combined. Yet food productivity is set to decline, possibly very sharply, over the coming decades due to climate change; soil degradation and desertification, both of which are increasing rapidly in many parts of the world; and water stress. By the end of this century, large parts of the planet will not have any usable water. At the same time, the global shipping and airline sectors are projected to continue to expand rapidly every year, transporting more of us, and more of the stuff we want to consume, around the planet year on year. That is going to cause enormous problems for us in terms of more CO2 emissions, more black carbon, and more pollution from mining and processing to make all this stuff. But think about this. In transporting us and our stuff all over the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. How Is Tom Sawyer Selfish In The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain, Tom Sawyer is a hard kid to pin down. Not just literally, either. While he s jumping over fences and getting lost and tricking everyone into thinking he s dead, you keep going back and forth from thinking you know what kind of character traits he holds. He keeps the reader in constant confusion throughout the whole book, at least that s what he did for me. Just when his selflessness shines through, there s just as much emphasis, if not more, on his mischievous or selfish ways. He appears in three other novels by Twain: Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Tom Sawyer Abroad, and Tom Sawyer, Detective. Sawyer also appears in at least three unfinished Twain works, Huck and Tom Among the Indians, Schoolhouse Hill, and Tom Sawyer s Conspiracy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He s always playing hooky. However, he s also saving lives, such as Muff Potter s. He tries to teach Huck the ways of robbers and pirates, all the while trying to get him to go back to the Widow s and live in society. Most readers are familiar with his mischievous deeds, though we shouldn t forget about when Becky rips the teacher s anatomy book. Tom took accountability for tearing it when Ms. Dobbins urged the culprit to come clean. Though this brings more uncertainty, as there are some hints that Tom was still getting pleasure from taking the blame, such as when the book states that the adoration in Becky s eyes is so valuable that it is worth one thousand floggings from Ms. Dobbins. These examples are some of the main reasons for the disarray in Tom s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
