Human Resources Planning Assignment 1 Essay
Individual Assignment 1
1. Define and explain the significance of the term derived demand as it applies to
Strategic Human Resources Planning. (5 marks)
Derived demand is the demand for a product/services occurs as a result of a demand
for another immediate good or service. When apply this concept on labour demand,
the more a company s product or service the market wants, the higher the demand for
labour to involve in the production process. The essence of strategic human resources

Business cycle fluctuates with the economy with growth, peak, recession and trough.
During the growth and peak period, business is more willing to spend money in
expanding their business and consumers will have a higher purchasing power.
Similarly, during recession and trough, business will be reducing their investment
and cost significantly to prevent themselves out of business since consumers have a
lower purchasing power and are less likely to spend. In 1982, Stonewall experienced
a difficult time due to high inflation rate in which consumers are not willing to spend
on constructions. With the adoption of the contractionary fiscal policy, government
attempts to increase tax, which reduce consumers likelihood in purchasing house and
reduce housing demand. Stonewall subsequently decided to lay off workers due to
overcapacity in order to stay with the business. Housing market experience a growth
in late 1991 since the interest rate began to stabilized. However, in 2008 the economy
suffered a huge recession and the demand for gypsum wallboard dropped again. If
Stonewall knows about the business cycle fluctuates and there are always ups and
downs in the business due to the external economic environment which beyond the
company s control, it is suggested that the company can have a clear long term
planning with regards to recession and growth and try to look for other opportunities
to diversify business investment. Another possible human resources
The Importance Of Religion In Colonial New England
Although European colonists traveled to colonial New England for a variety of
reasons, they embraced Christianity as the primary purpose for their journeys.
Furthermore, religion had a profound effect on everyday society and political
hierarchies. From enforced morality to Indian conflicts, religion tended to destabilize
numerous colonies and even led to unjustifiable atrocities like the Salem Witch Trials.
Nevertheless, without a religious influence, the timeline of New World progression
and territory would have been suspended indefinitely. Because religionprimarily
influenced the establishment of the colonies and numerous aspects of politics, it
played an integral role in colonial New England society. Even with distinct religious
motives splitting the early arrivals, the settlers clearly viewed Christianityas the
reason for their departure. Separatists and Puritans differed on their ultimate reason
for sailing thousands of miles from home. While Separatists wanted to completely
isolate themselves from England to achieve a godly society, Puritans desired to
provide an ideal example for how English Christians should live. This early instance
foreshadows the numerous interpretations of Christianity which would lead to
undesirable outcomes. However, even with these differences, religious motivation
definitively proves itself as the primary factor for travel. After these early
developments, the establishment of MassachusettsBay proved to be the most

Theodore Roosevelt s Contributions to American Political Thought
Throughout his tenure as a civil servant, Theodore Roosevelt perpetually involved
himself in matters of reform. Well read and well traveled, Roosevelt expressed his
wide array of political thought out of experience as well as an underlying desire to
see the United States establish itself as a world power under the ideals of a
democratic republicВ—a wolf amongst sheep on the world scene. The nation s
twenty sixth president laid the framework for foreign policy as we know it. He
pressed reform amongst big business, and rallied for the rights of the laborer.

Theodore Roosevelt placed great emphasis on the conservation of natural
resources and the protection of the environment. These were subjects which were
for the most part absent from the realm of politics. Roosevelt brought them to the
forefront of American politics; ever since, candidates for political office have
found it necessary (and sometimes greatly advantageous) to take a stance on
environmental issues. He proclaimed, I recognize the right and duty of this
generation to develop and use the natural resources of our land; but I do not
recognize the right to waste them, or to rob, by wasteful use, the generations that
come after us, (TR New Nationalism ). During his presidency, Roosevelt s
progressive yet conservative stance on environmental issues led to the addition of
more than 125 million acres to America s national forests. Teddy believed that
conservation was a great moral issue placing the lives and safety of future
generations at stake. Though environmental concerns are not presently at the top of
America s political agenda, the American public is charged with the task of
preserving our land and resources for the benefit of our descendents. Perhaps the
most crucial of Theodore Roosevelt s contributions to American political thought
originated once he had already left the presidency. While on an African safari in
1909, Roosevelt received a book from a friend entitled The Promise of American

Causes And Effects Of Homelessness
We think sometimes that poverty is only being hungry, naked and homeless. The
poverty of being unwanted, unloved and uncared for is the greatest poverty. We
must start in our own homes to remedy this kind of poverty (Brainy Quote, 1997).
In the past homelessness was known as a result of any war. Nowadays, the
percentage of homeless people is around 60% worldwide. Also, the concept of
homelessnessis an expression that covers a huge number of countries which means
it shifts from nation to nation. Individuals who are needy are regularly unfit to earn
and keep up a standard, protected secure and sufficient stay. Being caused mainly
by the individual s conditions, homelessness can affect people s health and personal
life. To begin with, individual conditions are major causes of homelessness, and
they are quite numerous. For instance, the past of the individuals could be packed
with shocking events. Some people have really hard time getting over them, and
they always cause them many psychological or physical problems that may hinder
their development in life. Shocking events may include loss of job or money.
Research (as cited in Gowan, 2010) shows that 22.61% of homeless people are not
working seriously to earn enough money. In addition, personal crises, whether social
or economic have a huge impact on the individual s present situation. If someone
faces bankruptcy they have a higher chance of facing homelessness in the future.

P3 Describe energy intake and expenditure in sports performance
Energy measurements
Calories
Calorie a unit of heat equal to the amount of heat needed to raise the temperature of
1,000 grams of water by one degree Celsius. This unit is used as a measure of the
energy released by food as it is digested by the human body. Also called kilocalorie,
large calorie.
Joules
In terms of kinetic energy, one joule is equal to the energy of a mass of two
kilograms moving at a velocity of one meter per second. It equals about 0.24 calories,
or roughly the energy required to raise a spoonful of food to mouth.

Carbohydrates come in simple forms such as sugars and in complex forms such as
starches and fibre. The body breaks down most sugars and starches into glucose, a
simple sugar that the body can use to feed its cells.
Proteins
Protein from animal sources, such as meat and milk, is called complete, because it
contains all nine of the essential amino acids. Most vegetable protein is considered
incomplete because it lacks one or more of the essential amino acids.
Measuring requirements
Body composition
In physical fitness, body composition is used to describe the percentages of fat, bone,
water and muscle in human bodies. Because muscular tissue takes up less space in
our body than fat tissue, our body composition, as well as our weight, determines
leanness.
Basal metabolic rate
This rate at which the body uses energy while at rest to maintain vital functions such
as breathing and keeping warm.
Lean body mass
Lean Body Mass is a component of body composition, calculated by subtracting body
fat weight from total body weight: total body weight is lean plus fat.
Percentage body fat (skinfold analysis)
In your body you have a certain percentage of fat this is increase by the food you eat
and decrease by how much exercise you do to burn off the fat in your body. For
example 20% fat in the
Family And Authority In Antigone
Antigone Essay Family and authority are common themes and misconceptions in the
play Antigone. When comparing the essential themes of family and authority, Creon
and Ismene characterize the theme of authority, while Antigone and Haemon value
family. In the play Antigone, The protagonist Antigone defends her rights to have a
proper burial ceremony for her brother Polyneices who was killed in war. Creonuses
his authoritative power and puts a curse on whoever buries Polyneices, will perish.
Antigoneproves that authority from Creon cannot stop the reckless love and concern
for her family. Creon and Ismene encounter many instances of authority, and obeying
the laws in order to please the Gods. Throughout the play, Creon and Ismene portray
The Federalist And The Anti Federalist
In America today there are many political parties which include the Democrats and
the Republicans. The beginning of political parties started in 1787 with the
federalist, then later on the anti federalist in 1796. Alexander Hamilton was the
leader of the federalist party. Thomas Jefferson was the leader of the anti federalist;
who called themselves the Democratic Republicans. Our first president, George
Washington warned us about having parties and the danger of them. However, not
until Congress debated the ratification and implementation of Jay s Treaty with
Great Britain did two political parties clearly emerge ; the Federalist and the Anti
Federalist. Today the most influential parties are the Democrats and the
Republicans. These parties win all of the presidential elections as of today. Political
parties formed because the United States was beginning to grow and expand. Many
people had different opinions and so political parties were formed. People were
concerned about the how the new government was going to be organized. In 1787,
the Federalist party, which was lead by Alexander Hamilton, was formed. Alexander
Hamilton wrote the papers The Federalist and they were published in 1787 and 1788.
The papers were about ratifying the constitution of the United States. This party was
formed by people who had the same or similar beliefs as Alexander Hamilton. The
federalists were individuals who supported a strong national government, diplomatic

The Oil And Gas Industry
When thinking about how all this oil and gas gets from the platforms in the gulf to
land to be produced, you will run across the phrase, flow assurance. Flow assurance
is what makes sure these oils and gases get from point A to point B without any
hesitations or problems. Its main purpose is to prevent hydrates, clogged pipes, and
wax depositions. So can the oilfield industry survive without flow assurance,
especially in deep water operations? By reading this, you will learn how important
flow assurance is in this industry, and what serious problems can happen because of
the failure of flow assurance.

Flow assurance is the most critical task during deep water production because of
the high pressures and low temperature involved. Now that we have ventured off
further into deep water drilling, no longer does pipe flow analysis mean, pressure
versus flow rate. When conditions are wrong, hydrates, waxes, or asphaltenes form
and come out of the well stream fluids, plugging up flowlines and processing
equipment. So, what are hydrates? Hydrates are crystalline, ice like solids that form
when small gas molecules, such as methane, ethane, and propane, are trapped in
hydrogen bonded water cages under high pressure and low temperature conditions.
Hydrate nuclei form from the films of water on the tubular walls. The crystallization
of hydrates can result in formation of hydrate plugs which can end up being
hundreds of meters long. The formation of these hydrates can vary from instantly to
a few hours. If there is free water present, hydrates can form in the pipes. Natural gas
hydrates are crystals formed by water with small gas molecules and associated
liquids in a ratio of 85 mol% water and 15 mol% hydrocarbons. Gas hydrates have
been called the burning ice. This is due to the fact that gas hydrates are host water
cages containing guest gas molecules. These combustible gas molecules can be
Why We Should Distracted Walking Be Banned
Should Distracted Walking be Banned? I have injured myself multiple times by
walking into sharp objects I had not seen while looking down at my phone, and I
would like to prevent it from happening to unsuspecting citizens before something
even worse happens to them. Already, an excessive amount of people have
accumulated serious injuries due to distracted walking. There have even been deaths
because of this issue. Some people think that glancing at their phones for even a
second is harmless, but we should put a ban on distracted walking to avoid future
disasters. I believe that there should be a ban on texting and walking because the
amount of accidents would decrease, it will prevent drivers and pedestrians from
gaining injuries, but it will also make any city, especially a well populated one,
safe. With a ban on distracted walking, there would be a major decline of
pedestrian fatalities and injuries. In fact, according to the National Safety Council,
there were 5,987 pedestrian fatalities in 2016 the highest number since 1990 and a 9
percent increase over 2015. I believe that if there was a law against texting and
walking, those terrifyingly large numbers will shrink. Scholastic Scope s Would you

Why Is Andrew Carnegie Important To America
The Man Behind the Steel
One of the captains of industry in 19th century America, Andrew Carnegie, helped
build the formidable American steel industry, a process that turned a poor young man
into one of the richest entrepreneurs of his age ( Andrew Carnegie ). Andrew
Carnegie was beneficial to America in many ways. He did this through the new
technology he introduced to the steel industry, new programs, public works, and other
acts of generosity he committed. However, not only did he benefit the United States,
but he also preached world peace and helped to improve Europe, which indirectly
benefited America. Andrew Carnegiepositively affected America through not only
himself, but also his Carnegie Steel Company.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Reveiw
When I first saw Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, I exited the theater with an
excruciating headache, a lingering sense of emptiness and a very strong desire to

All in all, the directing of the movie quite fantastic the way the critic, Peter Travers,
reviews in his article. I approve this comment, The sixth of Rowling s book to be
filmed is that it s an interim tease, all buildup and no release. Actually, Travers
defends in his review by saying like that s bad, because the director of this movie,
David Yates, did a great job on build up and release when the movie display a huge
surprise to see ... bully... Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton), kill wise old Professor
Dumbledore (Michael Gambon). And then there s slithery Severus Snape (the great
Alan Rickman) makes a deal to protect Draco. The movie presents Snape helping
student, Draco Malfoy, destroy Professor Dumbledore and I applaud the director
in which the order of the action occurred. I agree with Travers that the director of
this movie, David Yates, did a great job on build up and release when the movie
displays the action towards the end of the movie. What makes Half Blood Prince
top tier is the descent of darkness on the lives of characters and setting of the
movie, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, which creates that dark
sneaky feeling you feel when you see the movie. Instead of Hogwarts been that
cheery type of school, in the movie you will see the halls mostly gloomy, bare, and
deserted. One of the main points of this movie is getting lost in the hypnotic Half
Blood Prince (and) its haunting power the Harry Potter fans craves
U.s. Foreign Trade Agreements
The late 1980s and early 1990s marked an age of reform and liberalization in
Mexico. After a long period of economic turmoil and isolation behind its borders,
Mexico began to allow foreign capital and foreign direct investment (FDI) to flow
into its economy, and the external debt that had been hanging over Mexicos head
since the 1982 balance of payments (BOP) crisis was finally restructured. With the
signing of the North Atlantic Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) on January 1, 1994, a
trilateral trade bloc was created in North America between Mexico, the United States,
and Canada. Foreign trade restrictions were eliminated and commercial agreements

Nevertheless, many bankers were willing to pay up to three times the banks book
values in a purchase due to the PRI and Salinas administration s tactics and the design
of the banking system itself.
First, the administration signaled to potential investors that it would aggressively
limit competition in the banking industry, essentially creating the lure of an
oligopoly. Second, the PRI was able to control accounting rules over the years to
blur the true value of bank assets and to manipulate the treatment of loans and past
due interest in the favor of government. Third, the investors were able to craft a deal
in which they did not have to put up their own capital for the investment. In fact, they
often borrowed the funds for the purchase from the very banks they were buying.
This series of government decisions nearly guaranteed that the banks would engage in
risky behavior. Because the bankers had little capital at risk, they had little incentive
to lend money in a judicious manner.
Bank credit thus grew at a swift pace as banks began to compete with little regard
for the riskiness of extended credit; however, the rapid growth in lending was not
matched with a growth in deposits. From 1992 to 1994, loans exceeded deposits by
approximately 20%, and the difference was funded through interbank lending, largely
from foreign banks in foreign currency which was now allowed under the new

These selections from The Canterbury Tales best exemplify the ideals and traits of
women (as portrayed by Chaucer). In, The Wife of Bath Prologue, the narrator brags
of her sexual exploits as well as her prowess of controlling men. The narrator is quite
forthright in her enjoyment of this manipulation; she comments on her technique of
lying and predomination of men. The General Prologue further serves to display the
daunting traits of women. The narrator makes several stabs at a woman s appearance;
and the overall effect is one of distaste and inadequacy. The tale itself, The Wife of

The author also includes an amusing vignette of her appearance; Her head dresses
were of finest weave and ground; I dare swear that they weighed a pound…Her
stockings were of the finest scarlet red…her face…and red of hue. This
humorous tone exemplifies the promiscuous nature of the woman. The attachment of
the color red especially highlights this; as it conveys a seductive and tantalizing
demeanor. The overall effect of these items allows the reader to form an image of
the woman; that she is a person of low morals and status. Her life is comprised of
appealing and manipulating the hearts of men.
The additional prologue, The Wife of Bath Prologue, is both lengthy and abound
with persuasion. This particular division of the Tale offers a glimpse into the mind
of the Wife. In it, she portrays herself as a proud woman, which has used her
innumerable supply of husbands as vessels of mere social and financial support. The
performance that she displays showcases her uncaring nature as well as her
experience. The selection utilizes exemplum to properly impart this experience. This

The Infamous Collection Of Lasting Mental Effects Of
Warfare
The infamous collection of lasting mental effects of warfare has been classified as a
disorder known by many names: shell shock, Soldier s Heart, and combat fatigue.
Today, this disorder is classified as post traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD. According
to the American Psychiatric Association s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of
Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition, PTSD symptoms include persistent nightmares,
constant avoidance of trauma associated stimuli, and emotional numbing that was not
present before trauma. PTSD is unlike other mental disorders because it is linked to a
specific traumatic event, and it is often associated with combat (Institute 1). World

Following the Vietnam War, research began to accelerate in response to the influx of
suffering veterans. The Vietnam War helped extend the study of PTSD because it led
to the growing use of media to raise public awareness, the establishment of large scale
psychological studies on Vietnam veterans, and the realization of the importance of
accurate psychiatric diagnoses.
The Vietnam War profoundly affected many Vietnam soldiers after they left the
homeland, and the media had an immense influence on how these individuals were
treated in America. The returning soldiers showed all of the typical symptoms of
what psychiatrists now understand as PTSD: difficulty sleeping, an overly sensitive
reaction to stimuli, and flashbacks. For instance, Sonny Hartwell, a Vietnam
veteran with PTSD, recounted the constant uncertainty he experienced during the
war, War is a strange thing. You spend so much time with nothing to do and the
boredoms of every day existence [sic] in a camp like setting and then all hell
breaks loose. That might last for just a few seconds, but the terror and trauma that
you go through in just that minute to few seconds can be mind boggling (Stein 12).
Hartwell s story was one of many, and yet, early editions of the DSM had very little
information on war neurosis during the 1960s (Stein 11). Veterans were often
considered delusional and even misdiagnosed as LSD addicts,
Benefits Of Recycling
Do Americans realize all the opportunities they have to make the environment a better
place by recycling? When Americans recycle, it makes a positive difference to the
environment. Growing up, there was always recycling bins at school, at public
places, and at local businesses that were available 24/7 for people to use. There are
many benefits to recycle such as less trash in landfills, resources conservation, energy
conservation, environmental conservation, environment protection, and financial
benefits. With these benefits come the items that can be recycled like aluminum,
plastic bottles, newspaper/paper, and electronics. The first benefit of recyclingis it
creates less trash in the landfills. Americans throw away approximately 100 million
tons of trash per year causing landfills to become scarce and lacking space. Meghan
stated in her blog, According to the EPA, recycling can cut this waste by up to 32
percent, which equates to about 60 million tons of trash.
Another benefit would be resource conservation which helps conserve the
environment. This benefit helps save the all important resources like wood pulp
from trees, paper, fossil fuels, and plastics. Examples of this would be buying
recycled paper or purchasing items that use recycled plastics. The Resource
Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) is the public law that creates the
framework for the proper management of hazardous and non hazardous solid waste (
EPA ).
The next advantage of recycling is energy
Assisted Reproductive Technology Research Paper
Another way that same sex couples can become parents is through assisted
reproductive technology. These technologies involve in vitro fertilization, intrauterine
insemination, intracervical insemination, and the do it yourself method. That being
said, homosexuals should have the same access to these technologies that
heterosexual couples do. Same sex couples and couples with fertility issues struggle
to have families. But the struggle does not end with reproductive technology. A lot of
times a surrogate mother or a donor is involved. That makes it a three parent
situation. Therefore, if a surrogate mother decides she wants to keep the baby then
that just introduces a whole lot more drama in the parent s life. Assisted Reproductive

Everyone has a different variation on what parenting should be. There are good
and bad elements in every household. However, George Dent, law professor, argues
that same sex families have a lot of downfalls. Those downfalls include little to no
ties with biological parents, lack of gender specific nurturing from a mother or
father, confusion about their own sexuality, and increased instability. Dent also
feels as if artificial reproduction technologies should not be used by same sex
couples to gain a family and they should have limited rights to adoption (Dent).
Having little to no ties with their biological parents may cause a child to have a
sense of lost identity. They may not feel as though they can fully understand who
they are without knowing where they came from. This identity crisis may cause any
child to act out and cause issues. Then when a child has a lack of gender specific
nurturing it can cause them to be confused about gender roles. Along with gender
role confusion, is the argument that children in a LGBT home may be deprived of
what it is like to have a mom or have a dad, but at least they have someone who loves
them. Other arguments say that children leaving with a homosexual parent(s) may
experience confusion about their own sexuality. Basically, because they are
surrounded by homosexuality every day, they may be more prone to also become a

that it increases their chance at instability. Because same sex marriage is still fairly

An Essay About Robin Hood
When some people hear of robin hood they think of the disney cartoon. But the
disney cartoon/ movie is not the real story about him. A lot of people know him

The Legacy Of The Thirty Years War
The Thirty Years War was an enormous conflict the likes of which Europe had
never seen before. It was a war that destroyed millions of lives. It would be almost
300 years before another European war would be so destructive to the populace. The
war started much simpler than it ended. Long before the end of the war both sides
were exhausted. Despite this, it would take three major treaties to end this
international conflict. These were: the Peace of Augsburg, the Peace of Prague, and
the Peace of Westphalia. These three treaties addressed pressing issues in the Holy
Roman Empireand Europe such as religious tolerance, Catholic Church property,
the sovereignty of states, and the loyalties Protestant Princes owed to the Catholic
Holy Roman Emperor. The only successful treaty: the Peace of Westphalia had a
great deal of influence on European and eventually global politics and peace deals.
This great treaty was a nail in the coffin of the Holy Roman Empire. The conditions
created a weak Emperor and more autonomous German leaders. The end of the
Holy Roman Empire would bring on a new, modern, unified German Empire in the
1800s; First, the Peace of Augsburg was actually the conclusion of an imperial diet
in 1555. It was meant to bring a temporary peace and coexistence of Christian faiths
in the Holy Roman Empire. There had already been a war between the Emperor and
some princes at this time over religion. The Emperor wanted a quick fix to avoid
another war. The document states
Soliloquies In Hamlet Essay
Shakespearian Techniques
Have you ever watched a play or a movie and at one point the actor or actress starts
talking to themselves? This is known as a soliloquy and it is an amazing technique
play writers or movie makers use. These soliloquies can tell people a lot of things.
It s a great way of showing the truth or the real feelings of a character. However, this
technique is centuries and can date back to the Shakespearian era. Shakespeare
himself used soliloquies all throughout his plays. He uses soliloquies to reveal Hamlet
s true feelings. It even exposes Hamlet on what he really thinks of his incestuous
uncle and mother. We also get to see the true pain Hamlet suffers with grieving for
his dead father. In Hamlet s soliloquy,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

a King. Furthermore, So loving to my mother that he might not beteem the winds

loved his father too. However Hamlet s mother didn t really love him back. Hamlet
hates his mother for this. For betraying what Hamlet sees as a god. Moreover, O

even believes that everyone including animals had mourned King Hamlet s death
because of how great of a man Hamlet saw in his father. In conclusion, Hamlet
shows he love and misses by explaining how great of a king his father was, showing
how loving his father was, and saying everyone was mourning his death because he
was such a great man. While Hamlet exposes his real feelings for his mother and
father, we see how toxic he is in relation to his uncle. To start, that was to this

Water Vapour Is The Fuel For Hurricanes
A hurricane is a tropical storm with winds that spiral inward.
A hurricane rotates in a clockwise or counter clockwise direction due to a
phenomenon that is known as the Coriolis effect. This video can tell you how it
affects the spin of a hurricane. It s wind speeds that go over 64 knots or 118km/h. A
hurricane can be 900km long and can last a week. This phenomenon is known as a
cyclone in the Indian Ocean, but they are also named hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean
and typhoons in the Far East.
How Hurricanes formed
Water vapour is the fuel for hurricanes because when it condenses to form clouds and
rain it warms the surrounding air. The heat builds up causing low pressure to form.
The low pressure causes the wind to spiral towards the centre
The Field Of Veterinary Medicine
What are different careers in the field of Veterinary medicine? How do these jobs use
chemistry? Why is chemistry so important to veterinarians? What arguments are there
about veterinary medicine?
Different careers in the field of Veterinary medicine There are several different
career paths that you can take with a veterinary degree, but there are six main areas
of veterinary medicine that include: Private practice, Teaching and research, Industry,
etc.
First off is Private practice, which is the most common and what most people will
think of when talking about veterinary medicine. These are the veterinarians that
would regularly perform check ups on small and large animals, test them for
infectious diseases, diagnose them and perform any medical or surgical treatments
needed. This also includes veterinary technicians (vet techs) who work alongside the
veterinarians, perform certain procedures and tests, and sometimes specialize in
surgery or anesthesia.
Secondly there s Teaching and research. This field allows for continuous
advancement in medicine allowing both humans and animals to live longer and
(hopefully) healthier lives. It has also come up with some important findings like
isolating viruses and other pathogens such as Salmonella, and learning to control
different diseases such as Malaria and Yellow fever.
Lastly is Industry. This includes veterinarians that work in pharmaceutical and
biomedical research to test, develop and supervise the
The Role Of Overt Racism In Nova Scotia
Othering is where a group of people are treated intrinsically differently to maintain
the social prominence of the in group , Caucasian Canadians in Nova Scotia treated
African Nova Scotians differently to allow themselves to still have control over
African Nova Scotians. Though slavery had been abolished there was still
segregation, racismand discrimination happening to African Nova Scotians. The
othering method in Nova Scotia resulted in the mistreatment of Africville civilians,
racist stereotyping and education being withheld from African Nova Scotians.

In Nova Scotia, African Nova Scotians did not have the same rights as Caucasian
Canadians, these rights that African Nova Scotians were denied of were the right
to vote, employment and even the right to the access of public places dominated
by Caucasians. This overt racism allowed Caucasian Canadians to limit and control
everything African Nova Scotians could and could not do. One of the largest forms
of overt racism to happen within Nova Scotia, Canada was the mistreatment and
destruction of Africville. Africville was a settlement in Bedford Basin, Halifax and
it was founded in 1840 by African refugees and their descendants who came to
Canada. The destruction and mistreatment of Africville and its residents is a
monumental example of racism at work in Canadian history; it had a devastating
effect on the black community, most people believe that the destruction of Africville
was an unfortunate incident that was born of a necessary and humanitarian effort
however, the destruction of Africville was not only planned for years but the
Halifax city council and those in power at the time within Halifax slowly throughout
the years destroyed the land and homes of Africville. During the nineteenth century
Halifax began to expand more, industries and businesses began to infringe on
Africville property, the establishment of the Nova Scotia Railway Company in 1853
resulted in the early demolition of several homes as rail lines were built through the
community this demolition of homes showed that companies and industries saw
Africville not as a community where people lived but a potential building space for
their needs and it was also the beginning of many occasions where the Halifax
council and businesses used Africville as their own source for expansion. In the
1870s Halifax built an infectious disease hospital and then later added a trachoma
hospital, these hospitals were on

During the late 2000s, the Obama administration promoted a new initiative targeting
the American education system known as the Race to the Top (RTT). As part of the
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), the RTT Assessment
Program aimed to provide funds targeted towards a variety of assessments that would

within the educationsystem, especially student achievement across the nation. When
monetary gains are linked to performance, like in this case, schooldistricts analyze

Use Of Verbal Irony In The Pardoner s Tale
Throughout The Pardoner s Tale, the literary elements verbal irony and situational
irony reveal the theme that greed is the root of all evil. First, one rioter tells his
friend, Trust me... you needn t doubt my word. I won t betray you, I ll be true
(Chaucer 130). The rioter s use of verbal irony helps to reveal the theme by
showing how greed can cause someone to do things they would not normally do.
The rioter s use of irony means the opposite of what it states; it is a warning to not
trust the rioter. This quote shows how greed has overcome the rioter, and he plans
to do evil things to achieve the gold. Another use of verbal irony is when the
youngest rioter says to the apothecary, Sell me some poison if you will, I have a lot
of rats

Peace in the Middle East Essays
The text begins its history with the Middle East around the time of Muhammad and
the creation of Islam. From that time forth uprisings, demonstrations and acts of
violence were commonplace and have continued to be since that time. To dig a
little deeper and go back a little further in Middle East history one will find that this
pattern of unrest stems from as far back as proof provides. To see a timeline of
significant wars or battles of the Middle East, the picture is better illustrated on just
how long this territory of earth has been in domestic or national conflict.

Frequent discussions about the possibility of peace in the Middle East often route
into the subject of Islam and the inability or lack of desire of the Middle East
countries to separate state from religion. It is common to hear arguments blame
Islamic extremists for the unsettled atmosphere of the Middle East. Where in some
instances this may be accurate, it is highly inaccurate in most cases; but I would
like to emphasize the word some. Going back to the timeline of the Middle East
disputes, we can see that majority of these battles were not established out of
religious means. Most were catapulted from land, tax, and regime issues. Take the
Wars of the Hellenistic Monarchies in Syria in 318 170 B.C. for example. This is
a demonstration of generations of war between the Seleucids and Ptolemy s in an
effort to gain control of Syria. Does this differ in comparison to the decades long
Palestinian/Israeli war? Not much. The only difference is that peace is on the
world s radar as something to strive for and ultimately achieve. As the Middle East
continues to repeat history for very similar principles, the rest of the world is left
wondering when it will all end; when in fact, the rest of the world s countries and
continents have all had a very similar history of conflict as well.
Although the Middle East represents one of the oldest territories in the world,
comparison of timeline battles to other countries is a bit
Modern And Innovative Market Analysis Essay
America is shifting to a completely digital economy. The modern and innovative
market relies on improvements to be made to stay fresh and new. This shift makes
sense as so much of our lives have become digital. Our homes appliances can be
turned on and off on our phones, our credit cards can be scanned from our phones,
typing is a corner stone application in public schools. However, the push to digitize
your wallet is a step that may be too risky to undertake in American society. Issues
that come from the loss of physical cash must be placed on the scale prior to the
transition over. The psychological, social economic, and the logistical nature of the
market and its participants seem to be overlooked for the quest to modernize and
presumable efficiently. While some may argue that gradual phasing out of physical
currency can promote ease of use and solve economic situations found in the
American economy, it is wrong to believe that the logical step is to change the
nature of our currency. It is important to know where humans are coming from up
to this point in our history. Knowing what the history of currency is and why
civilization uses it helps explain the present. Since the ancient Greeks, physical
coins were used to convey a value in trade. They were made of tin, nickel, and
silver. Many currencies were, and some still are, represented an amount of wealth
based on the value compared to a valuable metal. The most common example of this
commodification is that of the gold

Cultural brokering is defined as the act of bridging, linking, or mediating between
groups or persons of differing cultural backgrounds for the purpose of reducing
conflict or producing change (Jezewski, 1990) (National Center for Cultural
Competence [NCCC], 2004, p. vii). In the example of breastfeeding, brokering would
involve group education through multiple programs, e.g. the hospital, WIC, and any
Hispanic based organization in the area. Another source would be to place public
service announcements on the Spanish radio and TV stations that provide
information regarding the benefits of breastfeeding and the disadvantages of formula
feeding. Our lactation consultant works closely with the WIC office educators and the
hospital based childbirth educators to promote this change. She also goes out to the
OB offices and pediatric offices to promote evidence based education, training, and
practices in an effort to change this potentially harmful cultural practice.

In recent years, digital technologies have changed dramatically, consequentially
having a significant impact on the music industry, who have been forced to alter their
methods of production; to counteract the increased fickleness of music audiences,
whose tastes are ever changing and seek instant gratification. The evolution of the
music industry has been acutely influenced by the developments in technology. It
could be argued that technology has been a significant challenge for style of cultural

Conversely as many artists and record companies argue music distribution in this
manner has many a disadvantage. For example, It has been estimated that over
95% of downloading is done illegally, and the ease of access has turned this type of
illegal activity into a casual affair, which is done on a frequent basis. The concern is
artists not receiving their appropriate royalties, as obviously when downloading in an
illegal fashion, nothing is actually purchased.
Recently there has been quite a backlash, with musicians attempting to sue file
sharing and music distributing sites, demanding sums of money for each song that s
been illegally copied. Obviously the issue of theft is rife, but the argument is that it s
the people performing the acts that are against the law that should be punished, and
not the technology itself. The publicity in cases like these seem to make the artist
appear less popular, and ironically it s the sites that actually benefit from the media
attention, by the increased hits from curious media consumers.
A recent report suggests that only 5% of the music we acquire from online is
purchased legitimately. It s been said that at least 7 million people in Britain alone
use illegal downloads, costing the economy not just billions of pounds, but also
thousands of jobs too. David Lammy, minister for intellectual property, said: Illegal

Panera Bread Company is starting 2007 with unfinished goals and missed targets
previously set and a review of their strategy is in order to continue their ongoing
success. The company has grown substantially since its inception in the competitive
restaurant industry; however, an aggressive target of 2,000 Panera Bread bakery

Their southern counterpart, which light up the Antarctic skies in the Southern
Hemisphere, are known as the aurora australis.
What causes the colors?
The colors most often associated with the aurora borealis are pink, green, yellow,
blue, violet, and occasionally orange and white. Typically, when the particles collide
with oxygen, yellow and green are produced. Interactions with nitrogen produce red,
violet, and occasionally blue colors.
The type of collision also makes a difference to the colors that appear in the sky:
atomic nitrogen causes blue displays, while molecular nitrogen results in purple.
The colors are also affected by altitude. The green lights typically in areas appear up
to 150 miles (241 km) high, red above 150 miles; blue usually appears at up to 60
miles (96.5 km); and purple and violet above 60 miles.
These lights may manifest as a static band of light, or, when the solar flares are
particularly strong, as a dancing curtain of ever changing color.
History of the auroral lights
For millennia, the lights have been the source of speculation, superstition and awe.

Differences In Blue Penguin By Dr. Seuss And Blue Penguins
Discrimination has been present in society since ancient times. Discrimination is the
theme of the books, The Sneetches and Other Stories by Dr. Seuss and Blue Penguin
by Petr HorГЎДЌek. These two books with a difference of more than fifty years
show us, as some of its characters, Blue Penguin from the book Blue penguin, and a
group of plain belly Sneetches from the book The Sneetches and Other Stories are
similarly discriminated, but they face the situation differently. Blue penguin accepts
himself and the plain belly Sneetches, unlike the blue penguin, try to be like the star
belly Sneetches.
The story of the Sneetches and the story of the Blue penguin are both charming. One
was written in 1961 and the other in 2015. Both stories with their wonderful
characters teach us about the influence of discrimination. The sneetches made a
mistake trying to change their appearances to fit in the society in which they lived
but in the end, both stories showed that it is never too late to change and begin to
accept others and more important to accept ourselves. On the other hand, there is the
story of the blue penguin who was a strong penguin but he was constantly
discriminated by the other penguins to the point of wanting to leave the South Pole.
Blue Penguin never wanted to change its appearance or its way of being, unlike the
sneetches he always accepted himself. as a result, the other penguins had to accept
him the way he was.
In the book Blue penguin , Petr HorГЎДЌek

Hillbilly Research Paper
Music is an expressive language of culture which tells a story, reveal ideas, offers
various opinions and share emotions of life s experiences. Music is a unique
identity of a particular culture. Different cultures have different ranges of music.
Music creates and shapes culture and it is true for vice versa. There is a circular
relationship. In the South, it is treated as a heritage and has a great history of
evolving on a large platform. Musicties generations together. Hillbilly music and
Bluesmusic were the lifelines of people in the South. This music reflects the
American Culture of patriotism and era of World War II. There is a great story
related to hillbilly music s history, image and popularity.
Back in the 20th century, hillbilly music had a great link to history, its image that
how it was seen by different people and eventually the evolvement. During the 1920s
through World War II, hillbilly music showed its first appearance. The name Hillbilly
was selected doubtfully. Both a fabrication of music industry producers and
promoters and an outgrowth of a tradition of farcical performances by folk musicians,

Hillbilly music is an American popular music that was commercially broadcast and
recorded between 1922 and 1942 and that eventually evolved into modern country
music and the regional genres of western swing, honky tonk, and bluegrass ( Huber
19). Southern textile workers played a significant role in the evolution of this genre
of America s popular music. Examining the vital role of Piedmont textile workers in
the creation of hillbilly music offers new understanding of this music. Writers have
long portrayed hillbilly musicians as tradition bound rural southerners who came of
age in the country side and mountain hollows, often isolated from or less influenced
by the main currents of modern urban life and mass culture. People were so use to
this music that they remembered this music by
Fig Lab Report
It is visible in Fig.~ref{ededhe3c} that the missing mass distributions for two
energies have a peak at the $omega$ meson mass 0.7827~GeV/c$^2$, on top of a
continuous background.
The peak positions for two energies are at the correct $omega$ mass, indicating that
the energy reconstruction is done properly.
The background of the missing mass distributions ends at different values because of
the different phase space of the two energies.
The two phase space distributions are useful for systematic studies of the background
subtraction, as discussed in Chapter~ref{ch5}.

The steep rise in both histograms, between 0.60~GeV/c$^2$ and 0.65~GeV/c$^2$, is
due to the combined effect of the double and triple pion production phase spaces (see
Appendix~ref{backphasespace}).

The background of the multi pion production is subtracted to extract the $omega$
meson peak, as discussed in the next section.
The $omega$ meson, including all $omega$ decays, is tagged via the missing mass
of the proton, deuteron and $^3$He system, calculated from the $^3$He particles
using Equation~ref{mmeq}.
The missing mass distribution is called inclusive because it represents the missing
mass after
$^3$He selection only which includes all decays of the $omega$ meson.
In order to count the number of $omega$ mesons in the data, the smooth background
from the direct pion production must be subtracted by fitting the spectra.
The Monte Carlo simulated phase spaces of the multi pion production is used to fit
background in the data.
Change In William Faulkner s A Rose For Emily
A Rose for Emily : Change is painful, but nothing is as painful as someone being
stuck somewhere they don t belong. In William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily, Emily
Grierson is a woman who is reluctant to conform to the adjusting South; with
everything around her growing and becoming modern, Emily is faced with some
difficult circumstances after her father passes away that allow her to finally be in
control of her life. One of which, leaves the townspeople to find her poisoned, cold
fiancГ© stiff in her bed and one of her gray hairs nestled softly beside him. The cliche
quote, the more things change, the more they stay the same reflects how Faulkner
demonstrates that some individual s response to change is unpleasant, but their
unwillingless attitude stays.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the beginning of the story, Emily is confronted by the community after her tax
notice is not received, and she responds, I have no taxes in Jefferson (122). This is
the first time Faulkner allows the audience to experience how stubborn Miss Emily
is in her ways and how she is customary to the life before the amendments of the
town. Her residence is a big plantation home and inherites wealth that is passed down
from her father. Although the Civil War is recently over and the Emmancipation
Proclamation has been addressed, she continues to control Toby, her slave. This
demonstrates that she doesn t want to adapt to the blossoming town around her and
how she wants to stay in traditional times. When her father passes away, it takes
three days for the community to persuade her to allow them to take his body from
her: She told them that her father was not dead (123). Later in the story, postal
services become popular, but Emily, being accustomed, refuses to take part in this
modern activity, being stuck in her normal
Willie Loman
In novels or plays, many tragic heroes act as a conduit that leads suffering to the
people who surround them. In Death of a Salesman, we see how the main character,
Willie Loman, brings affliction to his family through his actions thus, applying a
desolate edge and making the entire play tragic as a whole.
Willie is a character who has a family that consists of his wife, Linda, and two sons,
named Happy and Biff respectively. Throughout the play, the reader can
acknowledge how the main character constantly brings his family down. One
example is how adamant he is on achieving what he perceives to be the American
Dream. His persistence only seems to cause anguish to Linda, Happy, and Biff,
though his heart is in the right place. He wants
What Does Freedom Mean To Be Free Essay
Freedom or liberty as a political concept remains a trouble some notion which
continues to be widely disputed. Historically, being free did not refer only to a
legal status, but also to a set of character virtues one possesses in becoming a man
free of limitations. Within the discourse, there is a general consensus that freedom is
contrary to that of constraint. Hence freedom can be thought of as being free from
any restraint in pursuing one s desires or choices. Philisophers within the literature of
liberty frequently frame their discussion of freedom in terms of the negative and
positive distinction. In this essay, discussion will be given to the positive conception
of freedom. Positive libertyis a theory that defines freedom as the power... Show more

Similarly, Berlin argues that, freedom is more than the absence of interference,
limitation or impediment (Berlin 1969) . Such notion is supported by Rousseau as
he equates positive freedom to self mastery or the capacity to exercise control of
oneself through self legislation (Berlin 1969) . This framework concerning
freedom to achieve one s goals relates to the concept of structure and agency. To
gain the status as a free agent, a person should be liberated from societal conditions
in carrying out their free will. In order to attain such status , one must identify the
source of control or interference that determines what someone can do, or be
(Simhony 1993). Such control can be thought of as authority attained through self
government; a requirement for true freedom. As Mill argues, freedom of expression
matters not just because it enabled the discovery of the truth, but it is necessary for
people to develop their individuality (Mill 1859). Evidently, the theory of calling
individual self direction as freedom, emphasises the overriding importance of one
particular kind of desire to decide for oneself what one shall
Style Analysis Of Tim Burton s Corpse Bride And Edward...
Style Analysis Essay We do not fear the unknown. We fear what we think about the
unknown. Is a quote from Teal Swan. This idea is incorporated into a lot of director
s movies, however Tim Burton, a creator of many famous movies, would probably
have one of the best understandings of this idea. This is because Burton tends to use
ideas about the unknown in many of his films. However, these ideas of fearing the
unknown and curiosity of the unknown are especially prominent in Burton s films
such as The Corpse Brideand Edward Scissorhands. Burton typically uses techniques
such as some sort of misfit protagonist that is different than most people and a
judgmental society that treats said protagonist in terrible ways to convey to the
audience that society wrongly teaches people to fear the unknown.
Burton typically has the misfit protagonist deemed an outcast by their society or
the society they enter. For instance, in The Corpse Bride the protagonist, Victor
Van Dort, is a sort of clumsy and, quite frankly, normal character. Yet despite how
normal Victor is, his society, or more specifically, his parents and soon to be in
laws, expect him to be this perfect person and, inevitably, fails to do so at his
wedding rehearsal, because of this he is deemed an outcast by his parents and soon
to be in laws. Eventually Victor runs away from his town and finds himself in an
unknown place. Being in this place made Victor realize that he had no reason to fear
the dead in the sort of
Portfolio Theory
PORTFOLIO THEORY
Let us begin our discussion on Portfolio Theory with an example of two investments
(assets or securities) Ace and Bravo. Their return expectations are given in the table
below. You will notice that both Ace and Bravo are risky investments because they
do not offer a certain return. You can begin by comparing the expected return and
risk of Ace and Bravo:
State of ProbabilityReturn
Economyof occurrenceAceBravo
Boom0.2+2015
Growth0.6+5+5
Recession0.210+25
1. What kind of a correlation do you observe between the two securities? 2. Calculate
the expected return and standard deviation of both Ace and Bravo. Interpret the
results.
Expected Return = E(R) = ∑ ri.pi... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Portfolio expected returns are a weighted average of the expected returns of the
constituent investments. If the two investments are A and B, with a being invested
in A and (1 a) in B, then
[pic]
Portfolio standard deviation is less than the weighted average of the standard
deviation of the constituent investments (expect for perfectly +vely correlated
investments where it is the weighted average). The risk of a portfolio is measured by
its standard deviation and calculated as:
[pic]
Covariance means the extent to which the returns on two investments move together.
It is related to correlation coefficient, but can take on any ve or +ve value.
Let us learn the above concepts with the help of a solved example:
Let there be two shares A and B, with the following returns for alternative economic
states:
|State of Economy |Probability |Returns on A |Returns on B |
|Boom |0.3 |20% |3% |
|Growth |0.4 |10% |35% |
|Recessions |0.3 |0% | 5%

2. Background of Country of Origin Nowadays, in this modern and competitive era,
in which global marketing is growing day by day, country of origin, as a significant
parameter, has been studied in much research, and it is shown that this factor
influences consumer behaviour and also their purchasing. The other point that studies
demonstrate is that people care about which country products come from and where
they are made and consider these factors when evaluating the quality of products,
(Parkvithee Miranda, 2012). The improvement of country of origin goes back to
World War 1. At that time, the defeated countries, such as Germany, were forced to
put the symbol of COO on their product, by those that triumphed. Studies show that
the aim of this act was to punish countries like Germany thereby creating a bad
reputation for them (Cai, 2002). Country of origin s influence on customer purchase
intention has been a topic of study for many decades. Different cultures and histories
cause dissimilar perceptions among consumers, which may lead to different
evaluations about products when they want to choose. There are many parameters
The Representation Of White People In The Movie World
Essay The way White people are portrayed can vary according to what part of the
world they are from. Most of the time when they talk about White people from the
South they get referred to as dumb.
We also get portrayed as rednecks sitting around drinking beer and shooting guns.
That is simply not the case most of the time. There are the select few that are like
that, but most of the people from the south are not like that. We also get seen as
super racist, but we are not. In the Marvel and DC film world white people are the
rich doctors. They are also seen as stuck up. In the DC films they are occasionally
racist in some parts. People like Tony Stark from the Marvel movies who get scene
as rich and immature can sometimes set the standard on how people look at any
white person with a decent amount of money. In a recent marvel movie Dr. Strange
he is sexist because he does not think the great one is a girl he expects it to be a guy.
Some White people are seen as sexist. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are also used in racist ways by the kind of animals that are portrayed as
White. Like in a most recent animated film Sing there is white mouse that blows
money, and cheats at cards and there are black bears chasing him. In this one
animated film I saw there were these gorillas that were leading a gang and then a
white chimpanzee tried to join and and they sent him away and said something
along the lines of go spend your dad s money. A pretty good bit of white kids are
assumed to be able to spend their dad s money, and they can be seen as they have

  • 3. The Importance Of Religion In Colonial New England Although European colonists traveled to colonial New England for a variety of reasons, they embraced Christianity as the primary purpose for their journeys. Furthermore, religion had a profound effect on everyday society and political hierarchies. From enforced morality to Indian conflicts, religion tended to destabilize numerous colonies and even led to unjustifiable atrocities like the Salem Witch Trials. Nevertheless, without a religious influence, the timeline of New World progression and territory would have been suspended indefinitely. Because religionprimarily influenced the establishment of the colonies and numerous aspects of politics, it played an integral role in colonial New England society. Even with distinct religious motives splitting the early arrivals, the settlers clearly viewed Christianityas the reason for their departure. Separatists and Puritans differed on their ultimate reason for sailing thousands of miles from home. While Separatists wanted to completely isolate themselves from England to achieve a godly society, Puritans desired to provide an ideal example for how English Christians should live. This early instance foreshadows the numerous interpretations of Christianity which would lead to undesirable outcomes. However, even with these differences, religious motivation definitively proves itself as the primary factor for travel. After these early developments, the establishment of MassachusettsBay proved to be the most influential in

Theodore Roosevelt s Contributions to American Political Thought Throughout his tenure as a civil servant, Theodore Roosevelt perpetually involved himself in matters of reform. Well read and well traveled, Roosevelt expressed his wide array of political thought out of experience as well as an underlying desire to see the United States establish itself as a world power under the ideals of a democratic republicВ—a wolf amongst sheep on the world scene. The nation s twenty sixth president laid the framework for foreign policy as we know it. He pressed reform amongst big business, and rallied for the rights of the laborer. Theodore Roosevelt placed great emphasis on the conservation of natural resources and the protection of the environment. These were subjects which were for the most part absent from the realm of politics. Roosevelt brought them to the forefront of American politics; ever since, candidates for political office have found it necessary (and sometimes greatly advantageous) to take a stance on environmental issues. He proclaimed, I recognize the right and duty of this generation to develop and use the natural resources of our land; but I do not recognize the right to waste them, or to rob, by wasteful use, the generations that come after us, (TR New Nationalism ). During his presidency, Roosevelt s progressive yet conservative stance on environmental issues led to the addition of more than 125 million acres to America s national forests. Teddy believed that conservation was a great moral issue placing the lives and safety of future generations at stake. Though environmental concerns are not presently at the top of America s political agenda, the American public is charged with the task of preserving our land and resources for the benefit of our descendents. Perhaps the most crucial of Theodore Roosevelt s contributions to American political thought originated once he had already left the presidency. While on an African safari in 1909, Roosevelt received a book from a friend entitled The Promise of American Life, which became an extremely

  • 9. The Federalist And The Anti Federalist In America today there are many political parties which include the Democrats and the Republicans. The beginning of political parties started in 1787 with the federalist, then later on the anti federalist in 1796. Alexander Hamilton was the leader of the federalist party. Thomas Jefferson was the leader of the anti federalist; who called themselves the Democratic Republicans. Our first president, George Washington warned us about having parties and the danger of them. However, not until Congress debated the ratification and implementation of Jay s Treaty with Great Britain did two political parties clearly emerge ; the Federalist and the Anti Federalist. Today the most influential parties are the Democrats and the Republicans. These parties win all of the presidential elections as of today. Political parties formed because the United States was beginning to grow and expand. Many people had different opinions and so political parties were formed. People were concerned about the how the new government was going to be organized. In 1787, the Federalist party, which was lead by Alexander Hamilton, was formed. Flow assurance is what makes sure these oils and gases get from point A to point B without any hesitations or problems. Its main purpose is to prevent hydrates, clogged pipes, and wax depositions. So can the oilfield industry survive without flow assurance, especially in deep water operations? Flow assurance is the most critical task during deep water production because of the high pressures and low temperature involved. Now that we have ventured off further into deep water drilling, no longer does pipe flow analysis mean, pressure versus flow rate. When conditions are wrong, hydrates, waxes, or asphaltenes form and come out of the well stream fluids, plugging up flowlines and processing equipment. So, what are hydrates? Hydrates are crystalline, ice like solids that form when small gas molecules, such as methane, ethane, and propane, are trapped in hydrogen bonded water cages under high pressure and low temperature conditions. Hydrate nuclei form from the films of water on the tubular walls. The crystallization of hydrates can result in formation of hydrate plugs which can end up being hundreds of meters long. The formation of these hydrates can vary from instantly to a few hours. If there is free water present, hydrates can form in the pipes. Natural gas hydrates are crystals formed by water with small gas molecules and associated liquids in a ratio of 85 mol% water and 15 mol% hydrocarbons. Gas hydrates have been called the burning ice. This is due to the fact that gas hydrates are host water cages containing guest gas molecules. These combustible gas molecules can be

I have injured myself multiple times by walking into sharp objects I had not seen while looking down at my phone, and I would like to prevent it from happening to unsuspecting citizens before something even worse happens to them. Already, an excessive amount of people have accumulated serious injuries due to distracted walking. There have even been deaths because of this issue. Some people think that glancing at their phones for even a second is harmless, but we should put a ban on distracted walking to avoid future disasters. I believe that there should be a ban on texting and walking because the amount of accidents would decrease, it will prevent drivers and pedestrians from gaining injuries, but it will also make any city, especially a well populated one, safe. With a ban on distracted walking, there would be a major decline of pedestrian fatalities and injuries. In fact, according to the National Safety Council, there were 5,987 pedestrian fatalities in 2016 the highest number since 1990 and a 9 percent increase over 2015. In the sixth Harry PotterSaga, Harry goes to school, becomes obsessed with a mysterious book which belongs to the Half Blood Prince, and goes on a dangerous mission to save himself in the end. I agree with Travers that the director of this movie, David Yates, did a great job on build up and release when the movie displays the action towards the end of the movie. What makes Half Blood Prince top tier is the descent of darkness on the lives of characters and setting of the movie, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, which creates that dark sneaky feeling you feel when you see the movie. Instead of Hogwarts been that cheery type of school, in the movie you will see the halls mostly gloomy, bare, and deserted. Nevertheless, many bankers were willing to pay up to three times the banks book values in a purchase due to the PRI and Salinas administration s tactics and the design of the banking system itself. First, the administration signaled to potential investors that it would aggressively limit competition in the banking industry, essentially creating the lure of an oligopoly. Second, the PRI was able to control accounting rules over the years to blur the true value of bank assets and to manipulate the treatment of loans and past due interest in the favor of government. Third, the investors were able to craft a deal in which they did not have to put up their own capital for the investment. In fact, they often borrowed the funds for the purchase from the very banks they were buying. This series of government decisions nearly guaranteed that the banks would engage in risky behavior. Because the bankers had little capital at risk, they had little incentive to lend money in a judicious manner. Bank credit thus grew at a swift pace as banks began to compete with little regard for the riskiness of extended credit; however, the rapid growth in lending was not matched with a growth in deposits. From 1992 to 1994, loans exceeded deposits by approximately 20%, and the difference was funded through interbank lending, largely from foreign banks in foreign currency which was now allowed under the new

The Wife of Bath, The Wife of Bath Prologue, and The General Prologue These selections from The Canterbury Tales best exemplify the ideals and traits of women (as portrayed by Chaucer). In, The Wife of Bath Prologue, the narrator brags of her sexual exploits as well as her prowess of controlling men. The narrator is quite forthright in her enjoyment of this manipulation; she comments on her technique of lying and predomination of men. The General Prologue further serves to display the daunting traits of women. The narrator makes several stabs at a woman s appearance; and the overall effect is one of distaste and inadequacy. Following the Vietnam War, research began to accelerate in response to the influx of suffering veterans. The Vietnam War helped extend the study of PTSD because it led to the growing use of media to raise public awareness, the establishment of large scale psychological studies on Vietnam veterans, and the realization of the importance of accurate psychiatric diagnoses. The Vietnam War profoundly affected many Vietnam soldiers after they left the homeland, and the media had an immense influence on how these individuals were treated in America. The returning soldiers showed all of the typical symptoms of what psychiatrists now understand as PTSD: difficulty sleeping, an overly sensitive reaction to stimuli, and flashbacks. For instance, Sonny Hartwell, a Vietnam veteran with PTSD, recounted the constant uncertainty he experienced during the war, War is a strange thing. You spend so much time with nothing to do and the boredoms of every day existence [sic] in a camp like setting and then all hell breaks loose. That might last for just a few seconds, but the terror and trauma that you go through in just that minute to few seconds can be mind boggling (Stein 12). When Americans recycle, it makes a positive difference to the environment. Growing up, there was always recycling bins at school, at public places, and at local businesses that were available 24/7 for people to use. There are many benefits to recycle such as less trash in landfills, resources conservation, energy conservation, environmental conservation, environment protection, and financial benefits. With these benefits come the items that can be recycled like aluminum, plastic bottles, newspaper/paper, and electronics. The first benefit of recyclingis it creates less trash in the landfills. Americans throw away approximately 100 million tons of trash per year causing landfills to become scarce and lacking space. Meghan stated in her blog, According to the EPA, recycling can cut this waste by up to 32 percent, which equates to about 60 million tons of trash. Another benefit would be resource conservation which helps conserve the environment. This benefit helps save the all important resources like wood pulp from trees, paper, fossil fuels, and plastics. Examples of this would be buying recycled paper or purchasing items that use recycled plastics. The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) is the public law that creates the framework for the proper management of hazardous and non hazardous solid waste ( EPA ). The next advantage of recycling is energy

These technologies involve in vitro fertilization, intrauterine insemination, intracervical insemination, and the do it yourself method. That being said, homosexuals should have the same access to these technologies that heterosexual couples do. Same sex couples and couples with fertility issues struggle to have families. But the struggle does not end with reproductive technology. A lot of times a surrogate mother or a donor is involved. That makes it a three parent situation. Therefore, if a surrogate mother decides she wants to keep the baby then that just introduces a whole lot more drama in the parent s life. Assisted Reproductive Technology... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Everyone has a different variation on what parenting should be. There are good and bad elements in every household. However, George Dent, law professor, argues that same sex families have a lot of downfalls. Those downfalls include little to no ties with biological parents, lack of gender specific nurturing from a mother or father, confusion about their own sexuality, and increased instability. Dent also feels as if artificial reproduction technologies should not be used by same sex couples to gain a family and they should have limited rights to adoption (Dent). Having little to no ties with their biological parents may cause a child to have a sense of lost identity. They may not feel as though they can fully understand who they are without knowing where they came from. This identity crisis may cause any child to act out and cause issues. Then when a child has a lack of gender specific nurturing it can cause them to be confused about gender roles. Along with gender role confusion, is the argument that children in a LGBT home may be deprived of what it is like to have a mom or have a dad, but at least they have someone who loves them. Other arguments say that children leaving with a homosexual parent(s) may experience confusion about their own sexuality. Basically, because they are surrounded by homosexuality every day, they may be more prone to also become a homosexual. Another concern about children being raised in a same sex household is that it increases their chance at instability. Because same sex marriage is still fairly new, a lot of stress can occur for anyone apart of a LGBT family. That stress can cause a lot of fighting and issues in the family, which is correlated to instability in the household (Dent). With all of that being said, many people argue that same sex relationships are okay, but they

It would be almost 300 years before another European war would be so destructive to the populace. The war started much simpler than it ended. Long before the end of the war both sides were exhausted. Despite this, it would take three major treaties to end this international conflict. These were: the Peace of Augsburg, the Peace of Prague, and the Peace of Westphalia. These three treaties addressed pressing issues in the Holy Roman Empireand Europe such as religious tolerance, Catholic Church property, the sovereignty of states, and the loyalties Protestant Princes owed to the Catholic Holy Roman Emperor. The only successful treaty: the Peace of Westphalia had a great deal of influence on European and eventually global politics and peace deals. This great treaty was a nail in the coffin of the Holy Roman Empire. The conditions created a weak Emperor and more autonomous German leaders. The end of the Holy Roman Empire would bring on a new, modern, unified German Empire in the 1800s; First, the Peace of Augsburg was actually the conclusion of an imperial diet in 1555. It was meant to bring a temporary peace and coexistence of Christian faiths in the Holy Roman Empire. There had already been a war between the Emperor and some princes at this time over religion. The evolution of the music industry has been acutely influenced by the developments in technology. The concern is artists not receiving their appropriate royalties, as obviously when downloading in an illegal fashion, nothing is actually purchased. Recently there has been quite a backlash, with musicians attempting to sue file sharing and music distributing sites, demanding sums of money for each song that s been illegally copied. Obviously the issue of theft is rife, but the argument is that it s the people performing the acts that are against the law that should be punished, and not the technology itself. The publicity in cases like these seem to make the artist appear less popular, and ironically it s the sites that actually benefit from the media attention, by the increased hits from curious media consumers. The colors most often associated with the aurora borealis are pink, green, yellow, blue, violet, and occasionally orange and white. Typically, when the particles collide with oxygen, yellow and green are produced. Interactions with nitrogen produce red, violet, and occasionally blue colors. The type of collision also makes a difference to the colors that appear in the sky: atomic nitrogen causes blue displays, while molecular nitrogen results in purple. Blue penguin accepts himself and the plain belly Sneetches, unlike the blue penguin, try to be like the star belly Sneetches. The story of the Sneetches and the story of the Blue penguin are both charming. One was written in 1961 and the other in 2015. Both stories with their wonderful characters teach us about the influence of discrimination. The sneetches made a mistake trying to change their appearances to fit in the society in which they lived but in the end, both stories showed that it is never too late to change and begin to accept others and more important to accept ourselves. On the other hand, there is the story of the blue penguin who was a strong penguin but he was constantly discriminated by the other penguins to the point of wanting to leave the South Pole. Blue Penguin never wanted to change its appearance or its way of being, unlike the sneetches he always accepted himself. as a result, the other penguins had to accept him the way he was. The background of the missing mass distributions ends at different values because of the different phase space of the two energies. The two phase space distributions are useful for systematic studies of the background subtraction, as discussed in Chapter~ref{ch5}. % % The steep rise in both histograms, between 0.60~GeV/c$^2$ and 0.65~GeV/c$^2$, is due to the combined effect of the double and triple pion production phase spaces (see Appendix~ref{backphasespace}). % ... The $omega$ meson, including all $omega$ decays, is tagged via the missing mass of the proton, deuteron and $^3$He system, calculated from the $^3$He particles using Equation~ref{mmeq}. The missing mass distribution is called inclusive because it represents the missing mass after $^3$He selection only which includes all decays of the $omega$ meson. In order to count the number of $omega$ mesons in the data, the smooth background from the direct pion production must be subtracted by fitting the spectra. The Monte Carlo simulated phase spaces of the multi pion production is used to fit background in the data.

Historically, being free did not refer only to a legal status, but also to a set of character virtues one possesses in becoming a man free of limitations. Within the discourse, there is a general consensus that freedom is contrary to that of constraint. Hence freedom can be thought of as being free from any restraint in pursuing one s desires or choices. Similarly, Berlin argues that, freedom is more than the absence of interference, limitation or impediment (Berlin 1969) . Such notion is supported by Rousseau as he equates positive freedom to self mastery or the capacity to exercise control of oneself through self legislation (Berlin 1969) . This framework concerning freedom to achieve one s goals relates to the concept of structure and agency. To gain the status as a free agent, a person should be liberated from societal conditions in carrying out their free will. In order to attain such status , one must identify the source of control or interference that determines what someone can do, or be (Simhony 1993). Such control can be thought of as authority attained through self government; a requirement for true freedom. As Mill argues, freedom of expression matters not just because it enabled the discovery of the truth, but it is necessary for people to develop their individuality (Mill 1859). Evidently, the theory of calling individual self direction as freedom, emphasises the overriding importance of one particular kind of desire to decide for oneself what one shall

This idea is incorporated into a lot of director s movies, however Tim Burton, a creator of many famous movies, would probably have one of the best understandings of this idea. This is because Burton tends to use ideas about the unknown in many of his films. However, these ideas of fearing the unknown and curiosity of the unknown are especially prominent in Burton s films such as The Corpse Brideand Edward Scissorhands. Burton typically uses techniques such as some sort of misfit protagonist that is different than most people and a judgmental society that treats said protagonist in terrible ways to convey to the audience that society wrongly teaches people to fear the unknown. Burton typically has the misfit protagonist deemed an outcast by their society or the society they enter. For instance, in The Corpse Bride the protagonist, Victor Van Dort, is a sort of clumsy and, quite frankly, normal character. Yet despite how normal Victor is, his society, or more specifically, his parents and soon to be in laws, expect him to be this perfect person and, inevitably, fails to do so at his wedding rehearsal, because of this he is deemed an outcast by his parents and soon to be in laws. Eventually Victor runs away from his town and finds himself in an unknown place. Being in this place made Victor realize that he had no reason to fear the dead in the sort of

The other point that studies demonstrate is that people care about which country products come from and where they are made and consider these factors when evaluating the quality of products, (Parkvithee Miranda, 2012). The improvement of country of origin goes back to World War 1. At that time, the defeated countries, such as Germany, were forced to put the symbol of COO on their product, by those that triumphed.
