Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hydes, The Horror Genre Essay
How successfully does Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde use the conventions of horror genre? Author Robert
Louis Stevenson wrote the novel Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde in 1885. It is said that the idea for the novel
came to Stevenson in a dream that he had, he then wrote the book within six days. Stevenson was
frequently ill throughout his childhood meaning he spent a lot of time in bed reading stories this is
where his extraordinary imagination came from. He was also fascinated by the story of Deacon
Broody the man who was a cabinetmaker by day and a robber by night this is where he got the idea of
the dual identity of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Stevenson had a strict Christian background and grew up
learning the clear difference between good ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of which is frequently mentioned at important points in the story is darkness, this emphasises the
idea that the darkness cloaks the criminal actions of Edward Hyde such as violence, murder and sex.
Quite a few of these criminal acts took place at midnight this is rather like in the novel The Tell Tale
Heart by Edgar Allan Poe. There are also many references to dark vs. light and good vs. evil this is
used as a metaphor for the fight between Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Stevenson uses pathetic fallacy to
create an atmosphere ideal for that of a horror story. Throughout most of the novel the weather is
described as foggy, face of the fogged city moon this adds to the idea of not being able to see clearly.
The sentence A haggard shaft of daylight would glance in between the swirling wreaths was as if the
light were fighting to break through the fog just like Jekyll fighting to break out of Hyde.
Personification is used in the chapter eight The Last Night to describe the trees the thin trees in the
garden were slashing along the railings as if they were in despair and acting out of anger. The way
Stevenson describes London adds to the horrific atmosphere of the book. The description labyrinth of
lamp lighted city conjures up a sense of mystery making the city sound like a maze where every thing
looks the same and there is no escape. Another description that adds to the

Flappers In The Gilded Age
Flapper: Flappers were northern, metropolitan, single, young, middle class women. Many held steady
jobs in the changing American economy. The clerking jobs that formed in the Gilded Age were higher
than ever. The number of phone operators increased as phone usage increased. The consumer oriented
economy of the 1920s saw an increasing number of department stores. Women were needed on the
sales floor to cope with the most precious customers other women. But the flapper was not all work
and play was involved. By night, flappers engaged in the active city nightlife. They would frequently
visit jazz clubs and watch vaudeville shows. Speakeasies were a common destination, as the new
woman of the twenties adopted the same attitude as a man. Ironically, ... Show more content on

One hairstyle, known simply as the bob, would be at the center of this great debate. First introduced
during the Great War, the bob haircut would eventually cause a revolution in the way women would
wear the bob forevermore. It all started in 1915 with the introduction of the Castle Bob, named after
the acclaimed ballroom dancer Irene Castle. While cutting her hair for convenience, little would she
know that she would forever be linked with triggering a revolution in 20th century hair fashion. The
Castle Bob would be the first indication of the rage of short hair. The bob haircut was simply a hair cut
leveling with the bottom of the ears all around the head. It was worn either with bangs or with the hair
brushed off the side of the forehead. It was a simple look but an oppressive departure from the long
feminine looks created by Gibson and Marcel. http://www.hairarchives.com/private/1920s.htm
Cosmetics: In 1909 Gordon Selfridge had opened the first cosmetics counter to allow women to try
before you buy. By the 1920s, every pharmacy and department store in the world included makeup
counters. The previous stigma attached to makeup was gone and women felt at ease scrutinizing the
latest powders, vanishing creams, pan sticks, lipsticks and mascaras (or mascaros as they were known
in the 1920s).

Chromophore Lab
The aspect of a molecule that is responsible for the color present in dyes is called a chromophore. This
is because this structure is where the energy difference between two different orbitals falls inside of
the range of the visible spectrum of light ( UV Visible Spectroscopy , n.d.). The type of chromophores
which give azo dyes their color are called conjugated chromophores, meaning that the chromophore is
created by a pattern of alternating single and double bonds within the molecule ( UV Visible
Spectroscopy , n.d.). Therefore, one possible pathway for the color change to take place would be for
this pattern of single and double bonds to be broken. The phenol structure (shown to the right as figure
3) present in both molecules would likely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This could allude to the possibility that another mechanism could be responsible for the occurrence of
a color change that would cause the rate of change for Azo Grenadine to occur more slowly. It is also
possible that based on the hypothesis 7.5 V is not a high enough value to fragment both molecules. A
variation in redox potential could have contributed to a slower color change in Azo Grenadine.
Although a significant limitation in this experiment was the inability to obtain a value for redox
potential, if developed further the processes in this experiment could shed light on the effect of voltage
on the decomposition of dyes through EAOPs. A solution to this ambiguity would be to conduct
separate experiments in the future in order to isolate these variables. This could be done through
several experiments to determine the redox potentials for both dyes, which could then be used to do a
comparison of how voltage affects these two dyes when using

Internship At The Evanston Vineyard
1. Background
I serve as a pastoral intern at the Vineyard Christian Church of Evanston. This marks my second year
of internship at this church. I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience of becoming familiar with the
culture of a non denominational setting of the church. The Evanston Vineyard comprises of 57 nations
of the world. The church is not only unique because of this particular diversity (for example, there is a
Spanish speaking congregation that convenes every Sunday in the La Viña auditorium, one of multiple
auditoria in this church) but also because of its hospitable and welcoming environment. This church
context serves as the backdrop for the events and discussions that comprise the remainder of this
paper.

Intrapersonal Reflection: Cultivating Self Awareness
During my conversation with Muria, I was mindful of learning about her as a person her interests, her
passion and her serious mindedness about what kind of help she would like to offer to the church and
why. I wanted to encourage her in every possible way I could, and understand what differences could
lie in various church roles and ministries. I advised her talking to the senior pastor and the executive
pastor so as to avoid providing any extra information about the church administration.
Since Muria is not a church member at the Evanston Vineyard, whether it is the English speaking
congregation, the La Viña congregation or the Neighborhood Campus, (this is name of a church
campus at new location), I thought it might be best if I did not personally announce any authority on
her .Though I am a pastoral intern at this church, I am not the sole authority. My conversation was a
source of knowledge to her like the contents of a book that can help her receive some synopsis if it is a
good fit for her or not. Furthermore, if she would be interested in reading and learning about a hope
that can help her discover if that knowledge is of any use to her not. Since this was my second time
talking with her, and I have had only verbal interaction with her on one to one and have not seen her
with a person from the La Viña congregation or one that I might know of, I did not want to have
overconfidence on her and overstate the requirements

Video Games Considered Art Essay
Video Games Considered Art Many video games use visuals to mentally immerse gamers into a
virtual world filled with seemingly living, breathing people, animals, or cities. According to Michael
Samyn and Auriea Harvey, game designers for Tale of Tales, video games increasingly develop into a
true medium of artistic expression (Lamb). In just forty years, video games transformed from an abuse
of the new computer for entertainment purposes into a sophisticated form of popular art. The
development of video games recently produced results that arguably equal other similar,
representational arts. Video games share many qualities with other forms of art, but they are also
artistically significant in their own way. This seems to be something ... Show more content on

These backdrops technologically represent the visual art style seen in video games. While not
necessarily traditional art, new visual art is created by the ever growing technological advances seen
today. Another example, Grand Theft Auto: IV, creates a living, breathing city, named Liberty City:
Liberty City, the setting of Grand Theft Auto: IV, is a high water mark of aesthetic representation in
gaming. Here is a city, rich with detail and character, with living inhabitants, that changes to reflect the
time of day and the changing weather, is simmering with economic and ethnic politics, has great
architecture, and is everywhere making comments on our real world . . . . (Tavinor 183) How does a
virtual city in a video game represent art? Art is seen everywhere; the architecture, the faded graffiti
created by rival gangs, and the interactive characters clothing designs. These two video game
examples alone prove the ever growing technological representation of art in video games, whether it
is a fantasy world full of colorful, exotic plants or a gritty, realistic setting where crime and graffiti
scatters throughout. Video games use visuals as well as use creative media to explore and represent art
in gaming. In using creative media, video games share similarities with traditional art but also differ
from it entirely. Art created by video games is in a league of its own. Tom Cargo, the president of the
Game Developers Association of Australia said, No

Essay about How World Poverty is Changing the Human Race
Poverty is an epidemic which has created a huge dent to human race. More than 50% of the world
population lives on less than $2.50 a day. People can t provide even one proper meal to their children.
The income differentials are widening across the globe. What are we doing to reduce this widening?
What are we doing to eliminate this menace of poverty? Why can t we produce enough food for
everyone? Why can t everyone have a proper shelter? Is it the greed in us, the cause for it? Why can t
we help each other and work together to eradicate poverty? Poverty is a menace to humanity. The

Literacy, Natural resources, climate, government systems, laws, regulations, culture, greed and many
other reasons cause poverty. More than half the world population lives on less than $2.50 a day. At
least 80% of humanity lives on less than $10 a day. The poorest 40% of the world s population
accounts for 5% of global income while the richest 20% accounts for 75% of world income. Poverty
affects every nation for a reason. There is no silver bullet to eliminate poverty. No one solution work
in every country.
There is no one solution to eradicate poverty. Governments should create laws to help bring people
above poverty. Rich countries with abundant natural resources should help out poor countries. Benefit
systems should be established in all countries. People should unite globally to eliminate this menace.
Currently, most of the work is being done by NGOs and non profit organizations. Instead,
governments, people from every walk of life, political leaders and organizations, every human should
unite and help each other to eliminate poverty. The unity of the people and desire to help each other is
the only real solution that could eliminate poverty forever.
Realistically people can help out in many ways. Local organizations, schools, and clubs can hold
fundraisers. Also, people can have clothing donation drives. Also, people can volunteer in soup
kitchens, and try not to waste

Data And Data Analysis Paper
The world is converging toward a critical point in history where the question has to be asked, will
there be enough resources to go around? Populations around the globe are growing and moving out of
poverty towards the consumption based lifestyles of western countries. This means more is needed,
more oil, more water, and more food. These resources are finite, limited, and often wasted. Through
the use of technology and data, these resources can be better utilized. Data and data analysis will allow
these systems to be optimized to produce more and waste less. The goal of this project is to use data
and apply it to the field of plant growth and agriculture. The Internet of Things (IoT) is a data driven
technology that seeks to integrate and connect everyday devices and sensors. This data infrastructure
can be used for a variety of applications such as home automation, industrial manufacturing,
healthcare, and smart agriculture. Although each application is derived from a significantly different
field, the underlying communication protocols are very similar and must adhere to similar constraints.
The constraints of low power devices, lossy links, noisy environments, and embedded
microcontrollers with limited memory and processing power. These protocols are the basis of the IoT
protocol stack. They create the framework that determines how data is transferred within an IoT
network [3][4]. The focus of active IoT research is shifting towards data, how data is sent, how

John F Kennedy And Turner s Speech Essay
Fredrick Jackson Turner explained how the conditions of the frontier formed intellectual traits in
people who sought success in a new frontier. In John F. Kennedy s speech and Steve Job s speech,
both showed traits that Turner described in his speech. The traits made by Turner, made all the
speeches comparable because even Steve Job s and John F. Kennedy s speech dealt with some type of
frontier. Two traits from Turner s speech which were seen throughout Job s and Kennedy s was
inventive mind, and the restless, nervous energy . In John F. Kennedys speech he described a strong
believe in how important it was we strived to reach space, because Kennedy wanted the country to
have a challenge. In a trait like inventive mind, people seek for new thoughts or ideas to help them

experimental psychology but he also made his mark on the Galton s test and methods. That leading to
the next psychologists, Francis Galton, he was from England and our text stated that his primary study
was unclear, yet it mentioned that he was known as the founding father of individual psychology

Child Labor Is A Global Concern
Introduction
Child labor is now a global concern and has attracted attention of people in various sectors of the
global economy. As a matter of fact International labor organization (ILO), the World Trade
Organization (WTO) and other international communities considers child labor completely abusive
and ruthless. It is also considered to be derived from unequal society and therefore could be said that
poverty and unequal distribution of wealth within the society makes children to go to work and in
many cases to look after their family. The International Labor Organization (ILO) estimates that there
are about 250 million economically active children worldwide. 61% of these workers are in Asia,
which equals to approximately 153 million children. In Sub Saharan area 1 in 4 children aged between
the ages of 5 17 work, compared to 1 in 8 in Asia. Around half of the economically children are
working fulltime, and about 30 to 46 million are in very abusive and ruthless conditions or worse
forms of child labor.
What is Child Labor?
Child labor refers to any employment that deprives them from their childhood. Therefore child labor is
considered to be harmful because it is economically exploitive and is interfering with their education.
It is also very much hazardous towards their health, or physical, mental, spiritual, moral or social
development. In fact child labor not only harms the child, but also increases poverty and equitable
development. It is also defined, as work

The Importance Of Beat Literature And Culture

Beat Literature and Culture
ENG317
The penchant for innovation and experimentation, so apparent from lifestyle to literacy form, was
born of a desire to reinvigorate and indeed revolutionize American culture. How accurate is this
assessment of Beat literature and culture?
The beats became a popular literary movement in the 1950s and 1960s when writers who shared a
distaste of American virtues of progress and power began experimenting with their writing styles
trying to revolutionize American culture. The Beat movement appeared in three major locations, San
Francisco s North Beach, Los Angeles Venice West and New York City s Greenwich Village. Jack
Kerouac one of the most documented about Beat writers is credited with defining the term Beat
Generation. In an interview Kerouac described the word beatific as down and out, characters of a
special spirituality who didn t gang up but were solitary Bartlebles staring out the dead wall windows
of our civilisation. Beat writers expressed their opposition from conventional society through their
works by using themes like drugs and sex and at a time after World War II people wanted normalcy
however at the time materialism and conformist careers were at the forefront. As well as this at that
time college students began to question the actions of the American society which the beats took
advantage of. Beat poets also wanted to liberate poetry from these conformists and bring it back to
what it was supposed to be; which

Summary Of The Myth Of Homosexuality By Christine Downing
In The Myth of Homosexuality by Christine Downing, there is the discussion of homosexuality and its
meaning over the years. Downing begins the article by stating how a myth has classified women on
women and men on men relationships to fall under the same term of homosexuality, but there is much
deeper understanding to it than that. The classification under one word has caused a lot of shaping
concerning how they are viewed or how they view themselves. In order to look past the surface of
what defines the myth, Downing states that we must start with the culture s myth and it s origin.
Downing moves on to say that the history of homosexuality is very short in itself. The appearance of
the term came up less than one hundred years ago ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some women seek lesbian relationships because they want to reject this sort of powerless state they
may feel in a heterosexual situation. Relationships between men to men and women to women hold
several differences, but at the same time they share several similarities. Downing concludes the article
by stating that there are both gay men and lesbians that dismiss the homosexuality myth, but it is
crucial that they understand that the myth does hold a cultural vision on the power of gender and
human selfhood. In order to get past the myth, we must understand to accept its existence. Downing
provides a great viewpoint on the meaning of homosexuality throughout this article. I never thought
too much about homosexuality and how individuals in this group might feel in their position, but this
article gave me an introductory understanding on the origin and how it came to be over the years.
Homosexuality is still an unstable topic even in today s society. Many people have varying views on
the matter and conflicting opinions clash on a daily basis. I remember having many gay or lesbian
friends in high school, but I never treated them any differently from anybody else. I think everyone
has a right to choose the gender or person they are interested in, but this does not work out so easily in
reality. Many people are afraid of coming out due to the

Simulation of Dynamic Responses of First Order and Second...
Objectives:
As part of the experiment requirements, we were required to simulate the dynamic response of a first
order and a second order linear system with the help of LabVIEW. One of our first objectives of this
experiment was to observe the response of the first order system to the input step signal and then
relate it to the time constant of that specific first order system. The second objective of this experiment
included observing the second order system to the input step signal and then relating it to the damping
ratio of the specific second order system. The third and most important objective of this experiment
was to use different functions of LabVIEW including loop execution control, LabVIEW formula node,

A shift register was then used to store the y value for the next iteration (y(n 1)) in case of the first
order system while a 2 stacked shift register, in case of a second order system, was used to store the y
values from previous iterations (y(n 1) and y(n 2)). A formula node was used in order to input the
formula required to program the algorithm for each of the first and second order systems respectively.
After providing the required number inputs and outputs (as per the requirement of each of the formula
respectively), a waveform function was used to create the waveform data from the output data and
determine the time interval of the input waveform. After using an array to contain all the input and
output waveforms, a graph indicator was finally added to the VI to display the final graphical
representation of the output data.
After saving, each of the VI were run separately set at different time constants (for the first order
system) and different damping ratios and 100 Hz undamped natural frequency (for the second order
ratio).
Results:
After creating the VI for first order differential systems in LabVIEW, we ran the VI using five

Power Hungry Athens
Whose Fault Was it Anyway: The Power Hungry Athenians?
If we do go to war, have no thought that you went to war over a trivial affair (Pericles, in Hunt 101¬).
With a sudden rise to power after the end of the Persian War, Athens became a naval superpower in
control of many other city states in the Delian alliance that struck fear into their rival, the Spartans,
who believed that the Athenians might destroy Sparta s control over their own alliance. Becoming as
powerful as Athens did, the city state became power hungry and led the Greeks into long years of
turmoil, leading to the end of the Golden Age. Sparta may have started the war, but Athens holds most

They believ[ed] that their security depended on winning a competition for power (Hunt 79). Allied
with city states from northern Greece, the islands of the Aegean Sea, and along the Ionian coast, this
alliance was built on naval power. By controlling the seas and most coastal regions Athens created a
global super power that could rival Sparta s alliance in size and strength, intimidating the other nation.
It began as a democratic alliance... (Hunt 79), but Athens soon took complete control of the allies,
because the city state was allowed to command and set up all of the league s financial arrangements
for the naval fleet. Around three hundred city states paid dues according to its size to the Athenians,
who in turn were in charge of how the dues were spent. Most of the dues that were not already paid in
the form of triremes were spent on building the boat and paying the oarsmen. It was through this line
of work and amount of income, gaining both income and political influence, that the poor citizens
were eager to expand Athens s power over other Greeks (Hunt 80). This very fleet of triremes were
used by the Athenians to force disobedient allies to pay financial dues. With Athens becoming as
powerful as they did in a short amount of time the militant Sparta feared for their superiority in

Commsec platform. Information such as companies circumstances, media announcements, public
reports and historical data are all important information available to establish a trading profile and
goals. For example, this trade works best when an imminent announcement is pending that increases
implied volatility or impacts on the share price significantly. One such occasion would be a half year
reports due out in February 2016. Thus, in the process of building the trade we distill our trading
profile.
This trade requires fundamental analysis (and completely avoids technical analysis), which is based on
traditional economic theory and focuses on the fundamental value inside a company. Usually this
involves taking the company s macro economic form, future opportunities and operating conditions as
measurements to estimate their market value. With this information we can determine the worth of At
the Money options (ATM) required to set up the long straddle.

The Machine Stops And Technology Today
Even though technology in The Machine Stops and technology today have many differences, many
characteristics are in common. The futuristic modern technology in The Machine Stops is very
dependable as well as modern day technology, except that in The Machine Stops everything is
machine generated. Most people today communicate on the cell phone or text messages. Frequently,
people may be contacted over video messages as well. In The Machine Stops the most common way
to communicate is by pictures or video messages with little face to face contact. Technology used in
both case scenarios is very reliant for humans. For example, humans rely on the internet to look up a
question if we don t know the answer. In The Machine Stops , they often did not have to ask questions
because the technology already did it for them. In relation to the story, they refer to when the machine
stops as a technological death , which we can relate to the same phrase in a way that if humans did not
have the access to technological works, most of our world would not be able to function. People
would struggle with communication with their families, difficulties to their jobs, and wouldn t be
aware of what was happening in the world.
The novel The Machine Stops is a dystopian future in which humans do not have the ability to live on
the earth s surface. The humans then, lived underground in a bee hive like machine only having access
to artificial air and eating techno food. The

We Must Reject The First Null Hypothesis Essay
Based upon the data above, this chapter can reject the first null hypothesis (concerning lethality) at the
five percent significance level, but not the second (concerning target selection). While the average
number of deaths, and casualties per an attack associated with religiously motivated terrorist groups is
significantly larger than the average number of deaths and casualties associated with non religiously
motivated terrorist groups, there is no significant difference in target selection between the two. The
first four figures provide a condensed version of the results pertaining to the first hypothesis. The data,
specifically the mean value in Figure 1 illustrates that terrorist groups that were not motivated by
religion averaged approximately 1.1 deaths per attack, whereas ideological groups that were motivated
by a religious component averaged almost four times that number at roughly 4.3 deaths per an attack.
This difference is also apparent when looking at the number of casualties associated with each group.
Based upon Figure 2, terrorist groups that were not motivated by a religious component averaged
roughly 2 casualties per an attack, whereas religiously motivated terrorists, averaged roughly 4.6
casualties per an attack. Both these findings are statistically significant as indicated both by the
extremely low P Value ( 2.2e 16 for both Figure 1 and Figure 2), as well as the T Statistic which in
both cases does not fall between 1.96 and 1.96. In technical

How Does Duchamp Evaluate The Roles Of Artists And...
The text by Marcel Duchamp, The Creative Act, evaluates the roles of artists and spectators. He
mentions that artists are not in full control of how their art is perceived, but by the people who view it
and talk about it. Ultimately, the spectator gives a work of art its meaning, whether or not it aligns
with the artists intentions. First, Duchamp suggests that an artist s intentions cannot transcend past the
artist. This loss of intention is called art coefficient (Duchamp) If we give the attributes of a medium

The Power And Influence On Our Lives
This theory helps explains how much of an influence the large corporations in our lives such as
Disney and Apple have on our day to day lives. These corporations run a majority of other businesses
in our lives that also have an influence in what we think and do. The importance of this is theory is to
show the power and influence that these corporations have on our daily lives and how we think and
feel. If the corporate industry were to fallout our lives would be greatly impacted in more than one
way.

Mistaken Eyewitness Testimony
An eyewitness testimony is a proceeding whereby the witness of a crime will stand in court and recall
the events which they perceived and is involved in the identification of the perpetrator (Laney Loftus,
n.d.). Eyewitnesses testimonies have become a staple for many legal proceedings and is often taken as
hard evidence for a crime which someone has committed. However, there has been a staggering
number of innocent people who have been convicted of a crime based on eyewitness testimonies. This
is what led to the creation of the Innocence Project whose mission is to use DNA evidence to free
wrongly convicted individuals ( About Innocence Project, n.d.). This essay will explore some of the
reasons behind mistaken eyewitness testimonies, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, factors such as interactions with other witnesses and the influence of media outlets cannot
be accounted for. In addition, the small sample size of 13 participants means the results are not as
reliable and cannot be generalised to the population at large. One possible factor which may influence
the results is that witnesses were within close proximity to the events which transpired which can
influence memory as well as not being applicable to many crimes whereby the witnesses only see part
of the crime or a shadow of the perpetrator. An alternative explanation would be that flashbulb
memory was at work here.
A flashbulb memory is a detailed snapshot of an event which evoked feelings of shock or surprise or
were otherwise emotionally arousing (Brown and Kulik, 1977). Events which have negative emotions
attached to them seem to be processed in a detail attentive and conservative manner (Bless et al.,
1996; Storbeck Clore, 2005; Bohn and Bernsten, 2007). The age of a witness also seems to influence
the formation of flashbulb memories. In a study by Cohen, Conway and Maylor (1993) most of the
younger participants experienced flashbulb memory compared to less than half the older participants.
They concluded that the main factor which influenced the formation of flashbulb memories for older
participants was rehearsal of the events whereas in younger

Jordan Dbq Essay
Introduction: Fighting and finishing Israel is of most importance to maintain our position in the Arab
world. The republic of Jordan after the six day war against Israel had lost a lot of territory including
the west bank, which was a big chunk of land, which Jordan had. According to new testaments Jordan
s King Hussein made it clear to Prime Minister Golda Meir that he must do so as to preserve his
position in the Arab world, and asked Israel not to attack Jordan.
Since Jordan was a part of the Arabic community of countries it had to make a decision to fight with
them or to let this war pass. Jordan making the correct decision made a final decision and decided that
they were not going to attack Israel because they came to a conclusion that if they did they would
loose more land. When Syria went at war Jordan had no other choice but to send men to aid and help
out his brother countries. But as soon as Jordan took the action of sending 500 men and artillery to
Syria and Egypt but every time their men were going take some kind of action they would acted

Lovers Of Paradiso In Dante Inferno
Throughout the Divine Comedy, Dante Alighieri explores the idea of passion by writing stories of two
lovers. These two lovers have similar experiences, yet, they have opposite interpretations of what they
experience. Dante suggests that individuals cause their own fates by interpreting their experiences
vastly differently. In this case, these two lovers interpret their lust/passion pretty differently, when they
were alive, and this led one couple to end up in Hell and be punished, while the other couple come
together in Heaven, at a divine level. In other words, Dante compares the lovers of Inferno and the
lovers of Paradiso. Lovers of Inferno swept up by passion, lack remorse and lack respect for the God.
In contrast, lovers of Paradiso interpret ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Looking at Inferno 5, Dante grants the agency to Francesca, allowing her to tell her own story. Giving
her the freedom to talk indicates that Dante feels sympathy for her and is curious what it feels to
punished because of lust, since he has also thought of it many time. However, on the other hand, after
Francesca is finished telling her story, Dante faints with pity. Therefore, even though he feels
sympathy towards Francesca (since Dante has similar feelings toward another woman than his wife),
he is simultaneously aware that even his sympathy might be bad. Thus, he feels so overwhelmed that
he faints with pity. Dante says to Francesca, what you suffer here melts me to tears of pity and pain.
Tear of pity and pain; pain in these words means empathy, and understanding of her, while pity refers
to the judgmental and non appropriate state of her action by Dante. Dante explicitly says that he is
overwhelmed by her confession and pride of her action that he faints. Moreover, Francesca and Paolo
committed the sin of adultery and inferno 5 has 147 lines. Yet, the word adultery never appear in none
of these lines. This is quite interesting and makes the reader think whether there is an underlying cause
that lead the sinners to end up on this circle of Hell. This suggests that Dante expects his readers to
realize that she is actually in Hell because of not the adultery action itself, but because of her

Lenski, Karl Marx, Max Weber, And Emile Durkheim
Society is defined as people living together within a community that shares customs. Many pioneers
of sociology have conducted research on different areas of this phenomena, however this paper will
focus solely on the view of four sociologists namely; Gerhard Lenski, Karl Marx, Max Weber, and
Emile Durkheim. We begin by reviewing the works of Lenski, where his focus was on how society
have change over the years with technology being the main reason Sociocultural evolution. He
explains with the introduction or adoption of new technology caused society entire way of life to
changes and at a rapid pace. Lenski further went on to discuss into details the different societies and as
there are categorised based on their technology. The first type is Hunting and gathering society, this is
where simple tools such as; knife made of stone, spears, arrows, etc. are used in the acquiring or
resources. Food are usually not sufficient to supply large number of population, therefor people live in
small groups. Age and gender plays a huge role in this society as adult males get the hard work done
(Hunting), adult females do the gathering of vegetation, and the elder and young help as they can.
They mainly focus is to survive, and figure how they are going to get the next meal causing them
usually to wonder from place to place searching for food. Basically, everyone is equal and they all live

Electronic Medical Record Essay
An electronic medical record [EMR] is a computerised record that maintains patients health related
data, which is available to be used and accessed, only by authorised personnel, in order to deliver
healthcare services within the health organisation (Hasanain, Vallmuur Clark, 2014, p. 1). From
patient record keeping to administrative reporting and clinical support tools, the extensive
functionality of an EMR solution has the potential to fundamentally transform how healthcare services

Previous research on EMR implementation has identified that EMR implementation is most likely to
fail due to user rejection, so it is important to recognize the thoughts and beliefs that doctors, nurses
and other health professionals may have to be able to anticipate whether they will accept or reject the
new EMR (Goo et al., 2015). Clearly, EMR technology exists, but even with the best technology
success is not guaranteed. The challenge is the implementation, and understanding the reluctance of
change amongst users is critical for developing adoption strategies (Khalifa, 2013). The complexity
and usability of the system greatly impacts user acceptance. The more accurate and timely that data
can be entered into the system, the more beneficial the system will be (Struik et al., 2014). If the
system is poorly designed or if there is a lack of technical support and training, clinical workflow may
become more time consuming creating resistance from clinicians (Goo et

The Botany Of Desire Chapter Summaries
The Botany of Desire by Michael Pollan is an interesting perspective of how humans over the
centuries have filled certain desires through the use of plants. The apple represents the desire for
sweetness, the tulip for beauty, marijuana for intoxication, and the potato for control. Pollan discusses
the point and importance of these four plants and their development throughout history.
Chapter 1: Desire: Sweetness/ Plant: The Apple
This chapter goes into depth talking about the spread of the apple in the United States, and all over the
world. It discusses the original uses for the apple and how it came to be the sweet fruit that we enjoy
today. It explains how Johnny Appleseed really existed, and was named John Chapman.
The apple as we see it today was not always like it is now, it used to be different than every other
apple. In other words, if you planted a seed from an apple that you like, the apple that will grow on the
new tree will not resemble the old apple at all. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the old days the apple was generally somewhat bitter tasting, so it was used to make alcoholic cider,
which in turn got a lot sweeter and fulfilled this sweetness we crave.
The apple tree has grown and changed to contain cyanide in the seeds so that the seeds won t be
consumed. This preserves the apple lineage, so that it does not go extinct.
The apple tree works with humans, because we create a need for the apples, therefore the trees will
grow and adapt to fit our needs, for example bigger and sweeter apples will be produced generations

Burlington Compare And Contrast Essay
Burlington in the year of 2015 and Salem in the year of 1692 were both different and alike for many
reasons. One reason is Burlington in 2015 to Salem in 1692, is education. The reason is Burlington
has a major in providing an education to young people. It shows that the Burlington community it is
very important to receive an education. As shown by the girl in the graduation gown, that education is
important. Also, in the community of Salem did not have that value of receiving an education in the
same way. The second reason is marriage, because in the time periods the marriages were completely
different. As in, Salem marriages never ended well in anyway. Also, there were affairs between the

third reason is freedom and restrictions. In Salem, the people did not have many freedoms, but a lot of
restrictions. But in Burlington the people have a lot of freedoms and restrictions. Unlike Salem,
Burlington had entertainment such as football, basketball, places to visit such as carnivals and
amusement parks. As shown by the pictures of a football and basketball player and the photo of the
amusement park. In both Burlington and Salem the people had the freedom to own their own home, as
shown by the picture of the house in the middle of the venn diagram. The fourth reason is religion.
The reason is both communities of Burlington and Salem believe a church, but in Burlington it is not
restricted to only one specific church, and in America. This is shown by the pictures of the American
flag and bell in the middle, But, in Burlington there are more different religious churches to go to. But,
in Salem there was only one church for the people to go to. Also they believed in the devil, in which

Conflict, Man Vs. Society
Conflict In a story the conflict moves the plot making it one of the most important features. There are
four types of conflict, man vs. man, man vs. nature, man vs. society, and man vs. himself. In the short
story The Necklace the conflict would be described as man vs. himself, or man vs. society.
The first idea that supports that statement would be when the author introduces the main character,
Mathilde . He tells of how she is taunted about her shabby apartment for its dingy walls, worn out
furniture, and ugly drapes. This is not only an external conflict of man vs. society, but it fuels the
internal conflict. Mathilde thinks she deserves a better life than what she has with more riches and
luxuries because of her beauty and charm. She is also resentful of her husband not being any higher
class This is an internal conflict because Mathilde is not satisfied with her life and cannot accept how
it is. This conflict giving the readers an explanation of Mathilde and the story s first problem. The
second idea supporting the conflict being man vs. himself or man vs. society, is when Mathilde s
husband invites her to a ball. He thought it would make her delighted, but instead she is sad everyone
will show up beautifully dressed, while she does not even have an appropriate gown. This conflict is a
mixture of man vs. man, and man vs. society, because even though she is doubting herself of elegancy,
she is being persuaded by the fact of everyone else being dressed

THE BUSINESS SITUATION
Greetings Inc. has operated for many years as a nationally recognized retailer of greeting cards and
small gift items. It has 1,500 stores throughout the United States located in high traffic malls.
As the stock price of many other companies soared, Greetings stock price remained flat. As a result of
a heated 2007 shareholders meeting, the president of Greetings, Robert Burns, came under pressure
from shareholders to grow Greetings stock value. As a consequence of this pressure, in 2008 Mr.
Burns called for a formal analysis of the company s options with regard to business opportunities.
Location was the first issue considered in the analysis. Greetings stores are located in high traffic
malls where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wall Décor was designed to distribute unframed and framed print items to each Greetings store on a
just in time (JIT) basis. The system works as follows: The Wall Décor website allows customers to
choose from several hundred prints. The print can be purchased in various forms: unframed, framed
with a metal frame and no matting, or framed with a wood frame and matting. When a customer
purchases an unframed print, it is packaged and shipped the same day from Wall Décor. When a
customer purchases a framed print, the print is framed at Wall Décor and shipped within 48 hours.
Each Greetings store has a computer linked to Wall Décor s Web server so Greetings customers can
browse the many options to make a selection. Once a selection is made, the customer can complete the
order immediately. Store employees are trained to help customers use the website and complete the
purchase. The advantage to this approach is that each Greetings store, through the Wall Décor website,
can offer a wide variety of prints, yet the individual Greetings stores do not have to hold any inventory
of prints or framing materials. About the only cost to the individual store is the computer and high
speed line connection to Wall Décor. The advantage to the customer is the wide variety of unframed
and framed print items that can be conveniently purchased and delivered to the home or

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Water Fluoridation
WATER FLUORIDATION: A high degree of reduction in caries/ tooth decay occur when fluoride
content is approximately IPPM (i.e. one part of fluoride to one million part of water), the prevalence
of oral fluorosis increase greatly when the concentration of fluoride is more than 1pm. Therefore, the
optimal concentration of community fluoridation is 1pm. The very first community water fluoridation
was in Grand Rapids in USA in 1945 and these produced a reduction in caries between 40 50% in
deciduous teeth while in permanent dentition is 50 60%. Apart from caries reduction, there is also a
slower rate of progression of caries lesion less involvement of oral pulp. Many more people have
caries free teeth or dentition. It was noticed that these four differences occur and its lifelong protection
for the water fluoridation is interrupted the caries protective effect is diminished. Drinking habits are
affected by temperature and failure to make adjustment for this many result in increasing incidence in
fluorosis in one climate. To achieve maximum protection for both primary and secondary teeth, the
consumption of fluoridated water is essential as it acts directly as topical agent as well as
systematically during teeth formation. Proximal and surfaces are more protected than pits fissures.
ADVANTAGE OF WATER FLUORIDATION (WHO 1984): The major advantage of water
fluoridation is that apart from school (students) the entire community benefits adequately irrespective

Should Police Officers Wear Body Cameras Essay
Police officers are the people who protect the community. Lately we had a couple pf incidents with
police officers and citizens. Many citizens are now freighted by police officers. We have some citizens
who do attacks against police officers, causing the loss of innocent lives. Police officers should be
required to wear body cameras because the videos could be used for evidence at trial, and police
officers can look back at the videos to evaluate themselves. One reason police officers should wear
body cameras is to be able to use the videos as evidence. Many cases cannot be resolve due to lack of
evidence and the death of citizens in the hands of police officers. Lately we had many incidents were

Some opponents believe body cameras are too expensive and it creates financial problems to the
police department. As a community everyone should volunteer to buy the body cameras for police
officers. In addition, some people believe that the files will not have a way to store to keep for
evidence. Technology is very advance now police can transfer files immediately to a USB device if
they need more storage on their camera. Body cameras will save many peoples life s including police
officers. Although others are in favor of body cameras, they will save a lot of innocent lives, including
the citizens, and police officers.
Police officers should start wearing body cameras. Wearing body cameras will help police officer
evaluate themselves. Police officers have many situations and need feedback to make changes to their
attitude and comprehensive skills. The videos gather by the body cameras police officers wear can be
used for evidence against the citizen or police officer in case of incident. Body cameras might create

They Live By Night Essay
Genres are malleable; though they have the same key characteristics, genres change with the time and
setting. A movie can be part of more than one genre. The lines separating one genre from another are
not concrete and taking bits and pieces of genres can create a well respected movie. As society
changes, a genre changes with it. One can observe what was once important to society and what
interested society using the genres that were popular at a specific point in history. The audience
changes as time goes on and it is the audience that influences filmmakers. Films need to stay with the
times in order to maintain popularity. This paper will explore the changes within the crime genre,
more specifically, the couple on the run genre using ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a classical film, though it was made during the post classical years in Hollywood, because it
catered to the audience who was being introduced to these genres for the first time. Before the
classical period, there were broadly generic films and they were still working out kinks in order to
refine what would become the genres. They Live By Night uses the unique film noir style that was
common during the 40s and 50s. Film noirs are black and white melodramas that use shadows to hide
key details and emphasize the cynical attitudes of the time. It was filmed and released after WWII,
during the Cold War which influenced the cultures and films at the time. Badlands, directed by
Terrence Malick, was made in 1973 when the Cold War was still ongoing, the Vietnam War was
coming to a close, and the Watergate Scandal had recently been discovered. The general public did not
trust the government at this time and Malick played with this fact giving actual authority figures little
power in finding and capturing Kit and Holly. As they moved the people chasing them were not police
officers but who ever was living in the area. Many questions could be asked but not answered about
this couple which is a characteristic of the modern

European Witch Hunt Essay
The epoch of Medieval European history concerning the vast and complicated witch hunts spanning
from 1450 to 1750 is demonstrative of the socioeconomic, religious, and cultural changes that were
occurring within a population that was unprepared for the reconstruction of society. Though numerous
conclusions concerning the witch trials, why they occurred, and who was prosecuted have been
founded within agreement there remains interpretations that expand on the central beliefs. Through
examining multiple arguments a greater understanding of this period can be observed as there remains
a staggering amount of catalysts and consequences that emerged. In the pursuit of a greater
understanding three different interpretations will be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This heresy involved all characteristics and beliefs which were opposed by Christianity resulting in
mak[ing] it possible to attribute all the undesirable phenomena associated with the anomie of the age
to...the witches. 1 Expounding upon these reasons, Levack argues religious division made national
unity virtually impossible to attain, 2 further perpetuating instability and the occurrence of witch
accusations. It is also agreed upon that the political and economic change found within Europe had an
immense psychological affect, as the population believed in a fixed order of the cosmos, 3
encouraging them to rationalize the changes they were experiencing. Beyond these agreed upon
opinions both Boss and Ben Yehuda develop additional perspectives. Boss explores the burgeoning
cases of syphilis within misogynistic medieval society paralleled with the high rate of infanticide due
to infected mothers. It was believed that witches engaged in sexual acts with the devil resulting in
various adverse effects, one being the emergence of syphilis and infanticide. Boss notes that the
syphilis association is evidenced in a common tendency for accusations of infanticide to rise with the
tide of witchcraft prosecutions, 4 as women were targeted for the occurrence of infertility post plague.
Comparatively, Ben Yehuda argues the propagation of the witch hunts transpired due to a fall in
heretic factions of opposing religious groups that the inquisition

A Research Study On Bottlenose Dolphins
Bottlenose dolphins are among the most familiar cetaceans, just as whales. The Bottlenose dolphin is a
primitive member of the subfamily Delphinine. Bottlenose dolphins are grey, varying from dark grey
at the top near the dorsal fin to very light grey and almost white at the underside. There are two
ecotypes of bottlenose dolphins the coastal and the offshore. The Coastal dolphin has a small body and
large flippers to increase agility and heat dissipation. They have a limited movement into offshore
waters and like shallow warm water near the shore. Coastal dolphins for the most part remain in their
region. The Offshore dolphin has a large body to help conserve heat and defend itself against
predators. They are less restricted in range and movement and like deep, cold waters. Offshore
dolphins in the North Atlantic have migratory patterns that follow prey distribution. Bottlenose
dolphins live in groups typically of 10 30 members, called pods, but group size varies from single
individuals up to more than 1,000. In a case study performed by Randall Wells who is the leader of the
longest study of dolphin population since 1970, it was discovered that there are three main factors that
influence migration: Seasonal changes in prey location, predation pressure and reproductive
requirements. (Wells, 1980). In the fall dolphins follow mullet fish when they migrate from the bays
into the Gulf of Mexico to spawn. Dolphins experience the most predation pressure during the
summer when

  • 2. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hydes, The Horror Genre Essay How successfully does Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde use the conventions of horror genre? Author Robert Louis Stevenson wrote the novel Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde in 1885. It is said that the idea for the novel came to Stevenson in a dream that he had, he then wrote the book within six days. Stevenson was frequently ill throughout his childhood meaning he spent a lot of time in bed reading stories this is where his extraordinary imagination came from. He was also fascinated by the story of Deacon Broody the man who was a cabinetmaker by day and a robber by night this is where he got the idea of the dual identity of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Stevenson had a strict Christian background and grew up learning the clear difference between good ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of which is frequently mentioned at important points in the story is darkness, this emphasises the idea that the darkness cloaks the criminal actions of Edward Hyde such as violence, murder and sex. Quite a few of these criminal acts took place at midnight this is rather like in the novel The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe. There are also many references to dark vs. light and good vs. evil this is used as a metaphor for the fight between Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Stevenson uses pathetic fallacy to create an atmosphere ideal for that of a horror story. Throughout most of the novel the weather is described as foggy, face of the fogged city moon this adds to the idea of not being able to see clearly. The sentence A haggard shaft of daylight would glance in between the swirling wreaths was as if the light were fighting to break through the fog just like Jekyll fighting to break out of Hyde. Personification is used in the chapter eight The Last Night to describe the trees the thin trees in the garden were slashing along the railings as if they were in despair and acting out of anger. The way Stevenson describes London adds to the horrific atmosphere of the book. The description labyrinth of lamp lighted city conjures up a sense of mystery making the city sound like a maze where every thing looks the same and there is no escape. Another description that adds to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The clerking jobs that formed in the Gilded Age were higher than ever. The number of phone operators increased as phone usage increased. The consumer oriented economy of the 1920s saw an increasing number of department stores. Women were needed on the sales floor to cope with the most precious customers other women. But the flapper was not all work and play was involved. By night, flappers engaged in the active city nightlife. They would frequently visit jazz clubs and watch vaudeville shows. One hairstyle, known simply as the bob, would be at the center of this great debate. First introduced during the Great War, the bob haircut would eventually cause a revolution in the way women would wear the bob forevermore. It all started in 1915 with the introduction of the Castle Bob, named after the acclaimed ballroom dancer Irene Castle. While cutting her hair for convenience, little would she know that she would forever be linked with triggering a revolution in 20th century hair fashion. The Castle Bob would be the first indication of the rage of short hair. The bob haircut was simply a hair cut leveling with the bottom of the ears all around the head. It was worn either with bangs or with the hair brushed off the side of the forehead. It was a simple look but an oppressive departure from the long feminine looks created by Gibson and Marcel. http://www.hairarchives.com/private/1920s.htm Cosmetics: In 1909 Gordon Selfridge had opened the first cosmetics counter to allow women to try before you buy. By the 1920s, every pharmacy and department store in the world included makeup counters. The previous stigma attached to makeup was gone and women felt at ease scrutinizing the latest powders, vanishing creams, pan sticks, lipsticks and mascaras (or mascaros as they were known in the 1920s). ... • 4. Chromophore Lab The aspect of a molecule that is responsible for the color present in dyes is called a chromophore. This is because this structure is where the energy difference between two different orbitals falls inside of the range of the visible spectrum of light ( UV Visible Spectroscopy , n.d.). The type of chromophores which give azo dyes their color are called conjugated chromophores, meaning that the chromophore is created by a pattern of alternating single and double bonds within the molecule ( UV Visible Spectroscopy , n.d.). Therefore, one possible pathway for the color change to take place would be for this pattern of single and double bonds to be broken. The phenol structure (shown to the right as figure 3) present in both molecules would likely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This could allude to the possibility that another mechanism could be responsible for the occurrence of a color change that would cause the rate of change for Azo Grenadine to occur more slowly. It is also possible that based on the hypothesis 7.5 V is not a high enough value to fragment both molecules. A variation in redox potential could have contributed to a slower color change in Azo Grenadine. Although a significant limitation in this experiment was the inability to obtain a value for redox potential, if developed further the processes in this experiment could shed light on the effect of voltage on the decomposition of dyes through EAOPs. A solution to this ambiguity would be to conduct separate experiments in the future in order to isolate these variables. This could be done through several experiments to determine the redox potentials for both dyes, which could then be used to do a comparison of how voltage affects these two dyes when using ... Video Games Considered Art Essay Video Games Considered Art Many video games use visuals to mentally immerse gamers into a virtual world filled with seemingly living, breathing people, animals, or cities. According to Michael Samyn and Auriea Harvey, game designers for Tale of Tales, video games increasingly develop into a true medium of artistic expression (Lamb). In just forty years, video games transformed from an abuse of the new computer for entertainment purposes into a sophisticated form of popular art. The development of video games recently produced results that arguably equal other similar, representational arts. These two video game examples alone prove the ever growing technological representation of art in video games, whether it is a fantasy world full of colorful, exotic plants or a gritty, realistic setting where crime and graffiti scatters throughout. Video games use visuals as well as use creative media to explore and represent art in gaming. Populations around the globe are growing and moving out of poverty towards the consumption based lifestyles of western countries. This means more is needed, more oil, more water, and more food. These resources are finite, limited, and often wasted. Through the use of technology and data, these resources can be better utilized. Data and data analysis will allow these systems to be optimized to produce more and waste less. The goal of this project is to use data and apply it to the field of plant growth and agriculture. The Internet of Things (IoT) is a data driven technology that seeks to integrate and connect everyday devices and sensors. This data infrastructure can be used for a variety of applications such as home automation, industrial manufacturing, healthcare, and smart agriculture. Although each application is derived from a significantly different field, the underlying communication protocols are very similar and must adhere to similar constraints. The constraints of low power devices, lossy links, noisy environments, and embedded microcontrollers with limited memory and processing power. These protocols are the basis of the IoT protocol stack. As a matter of fact International labor organization (ILO), the World Trade Organization (WTO) and other international communities considers child labor completely abusive and ruthless. It is also considered to be derived from unequal society and therefore could be said that poverty and unequal distribution of wealth within the society makes children to go to work and in many cases to look after their family. The International Labor Organization (ILO) estimates that there are about 250 million economically active children worldwide. 61% of these workers are in Asia, which equals to approximately 153 million children. In Sub Saharan area 1 in 4 children aged between the ages of 5 17 work, compared to 1 in 8 in Asia. Around half of the economically children are working fulltime, and about 30 to 46 million are in very abusive and ruthless conditions or worse forms of child labor. What is Child Labor? Child labor refers to any employment that deprives them from their childhood. Therefore child labor is considered to be harmful because it is economically exploitive and is interfering with their education. The Importance Of Beat Literature And Culture B00714952 Beat Literature and Culture ENG317 The penchant for innovation and experimentation, so apparent from lifestyle to literacy form, was born of a desire to reinvigorate and indeed revolutionize American culture. How accurate is this assessment of Beat literature and culture? The beats became a popular literary movement in the 1950s and 1960s when writers who shared a distaste of American virtues of progress and power began experimenting with their writing styles trying to revolutionize American culture. The Beat movement appeared in three major locations, San Francisco s North Beach, Los Angeles Venice West and New York City s Greenwich Village. Jack Kerouac one of the most documented about Beat writers is credited with defining the term Beat Generation. In an interview Kerouac described the word beatific as down and out, characters of a special spirituality who didn t gang up but were solitary Bartlebles staring out the dead wall windows of our civilisation. Beat writers expressed their opposition from conventional society through their works by using themes like drugs and sex and at a time after World War II people wanted normalcy however at the time materialism and conformist careers were at the forefront. As well as this at that time college students began to question the actions of the American society which the beats took advantage of. Downing begins the article by stating how a myth has classified women on women and men on men relationships to fall under the same term of homosexuality, but there is much deeper understanding to it than that. The classification under one word has caused a lot of shaping concerning how they are viewed or how they view themselves. In order to look past the surface of what defines the myth, Downing states that we must start with the culture s myth and it s origin. Downing moves on to say that the history of homosexuality is very short in itself. The appearance of the term came up less than one hundred years ago ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some women seek lesbian relationships because they want to reject this sort of powerless state they may feel in a heterosexual situation. Relationships between men to men and women to women hold several differences, but at the same time they share several similarities. Downing concludes the article by stating that there are both gay men and lesbians that dismiss the homosexuality myth, but it is crucial that they understand that the myth does hold a cultural vision on the power of gender and human selfhood. In order to get past the myth, we must understand to accept its existence. Downing provides a great viewpoint on the meaning of homosexuality throughout this article. I never thought too much about homosexuality and how individuals in this group might feel in their position, but this article gave me an introductory understanding on the origin and how it came to be over the years. Homosexuality is still an unstable topic even in today s society. Many people have varying views on the matter and conflicting opinions clash on a daily basis. I remember having many gay or lesbian friends in high school, but I never treated them any differently from anybody else. I think everyone has a right to choose the gender or person they are interested in, but this does not work out so easily in reality. Many people are afraid of coming out due to the ... Objectives: As part of the experiment requirements, we were required to simulate the dynamic response of a first order and a second order linear system with the help of LabVIEW. One of our first objectives of this experiment was to observe the response of the first order system to the input step signal and then relate it to the time constant of that specific first order system. The second objective of this experiment included observing the second order system to the input step signal and then relating it to the damping ratio of the specific second order system. The third and most important objective of this experiment was to use different functions of LabVIEW including loop execution control, LabVIEW formula node, LabVIEW graph, LabVIEW ... A formula node was used in order to input the formula required to program the algorithm for each of the first and second order systems respectively. After providing the required number inputs and outputs (as per the requirement of each of the formula respectively), a waveform function was used to create the waveform data from the output data and determine the time interval of the input waveform. After using an array to contain all the input and output waveforms, a graph indicator was finally added to the VI to display the final graphical representation of the output data. After saving, each of the VI were run separately set at different time constants (for the first order system) and different damping ratios and 100 Hz undamped natural frequency (for the second order ratio). • 18. Power Hungry Athens Whose Fault Was it Anyway: The Power Hungry Athenians? If we do go to war, have no thought that you went to war over a trivial affair (Pericles, in Hunt 101¬). With a sudden rise to power after the end of the Persian War, Athens became a naval superpower in control of many other city states in the Delian alliance that struck fear into their rival, the Spartans, who believed that the Athenians might destroy Sparta s control over their own alliance. Becoming as powerful as Athens did, the city state became power hungry and led the Greeks into long years of turmoil, leading to the end of the Golden Age. They believ[ed] that their security depended on winning a competition for power (Hunt 79). Allied with city states from northern Greece, the islands of the Aegean Sea, and along the Ionian coast, this alliance was built on naval power. By controlling the seas and most coastal regions Athens created a global super power that could rival Sparta s alliance in size and strength, intimidating the other nation. It began as a democratic alliance... (Hunt 79), but Athens soon took complete control of the allies, because the city state was allowed to command and set up all of the league s financial arrangements for the naval fleet. Around three hundred city states paid dues according to its size to the Athenians, who in turn were in charge of how the dues were spent. Most of the dues that were not already paid in the form of triremes were spent on building the boat and paying the oarsmen. It was through this line of work and amount of income, gaining both income and political influence, that the poor citizens were eager to expand Athens s power over other Greeks (Hunt 80). • 20. Notes On Trading Profile And Goals Trading profile and goals Generally there is an enormous amount of information available to the traders. So in order to trade profitably traders should take only essential information into consideration for analysis. In this paper we trade a portfolio of options, namely 10 BHPC98 puts and 10 BHPC88 calls both with the same strike date and price as evidenced in Appendix B. The trading strategy we will employ is called a long straddle and is usually amenable to day traders owing to the availability of stop loss orders on the Commsec platform. Information such as companies circumstances, media announcements, public reports and historical data are all important information available to establish a trading profile and goals. For example, this trade works best when an imminent announcement is pending that increases implied volatility or impacts on the share price significantly. One such occasion would be a half year reports due out in February 2016. Thus, in the process of building the trade we distill our trading profile. This trade requires fundamental analysis (and completely avoids technical analysis), which is based on traditional economic theory and focuses on the fundamental value inside a company. Usually this involves taking the company s macro economic form, future opportunities and operating conditions as measurements to estimate their market value. With this information we can determine the worth of At the Money options (ATM) required to set up the long straddle. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In The Machine Stops the most common way to communicate is by pictures or video messages with little face to face contact. Technology used in both case scenarios is very reliant for humans. While the average number of deaths, and casualties per an attack associated with religiously motivated terrorist groups is significantly larger than the average number of deaths and casualties associated with non religiously motivated terrorist groups, there is no significant difference in target selection between the two. The first four figures provide a condensed version of the results pertaining to the first hypothesis. The data, specifically the mean value in Figure 1 illustrates that terrorist groups that were not motivated by religion averaged approximately 1.1 deaths per attack, whereas ideological groups that were motivated by a religious component averaged almost four times that number at roughly 4.3 deaths per an attack. This difference is also apparent when looking at the number of casualties associated with each group. Based upon Figure 2, terrorist groups that were not motivated by a religious component averaged roughly 2 casualties per an attack, whereas religiously motivated terrorists, averaged roughly 4.6 casualties per an attack. Both these findings are statistically significant as indicated both by the extremely low P Value ( 2.2e 16 for both Figure 1 and Figure 2), as well as the T Statistic which in both cases does not fall between 1.96 and 1.96. However, factors such as interactions with other witnesses and the influence of media outlets cannot be accounted for. In addition, the small sample size of 13 participants means the results are not as reliable and cannot be generalised to the population at large. One possible factor which may influence the results is that witnesses were within close proximity to the events which transpired which can influence memory as well as not being applicable to many crimes whereby the witnesses only see part of the crime or a shadow of the perpetrator. An alternative explanation would be that flashbulb memory was at work here. A flashbulb memory is a detailed snapshot of an event which evoked feelings of shock or surprise or were otherwise emotionally arousing (Brown and Kulik, 1977). Events which have negative emotions attached to them seem to be processed in a detail attentive and conservative manner (Bless et al., 1996; Storbeck Clore, 2005; Bohn and Bernsten, 2007). • 39. Lovers Of Paradiso In Dante Inferno Throughout the Divine Comedy, Dante Alighieri explores the idea of passion by writing stories of two lovers. These two lovers have similar experiences, yet, they have opposite interpretations of what they experience. Dante suggests that individuals cause their own fates by interpreting their experiences vastly differently. In this case, these two lovers interpret their lust/passion pretty differently, when they were alive, and this led one couple to end up in Hell and be punished, while the other couple come together in Heaven, at a divine level. In other words, Dante compares the lovers of Inferno and the lovers of Paradiso. Giving her the freedom to talk indicates that Dante feels sympathy for her and is curious what it feels to punished because of lust, since he has also thought of it many time. However, on the other hand, after Francesca is finished telling her story, Dante faints with pity. Therefore, even though he feels sympathy towards Francesca (since Dante has similar feelings toward another woman than his wife), he is simultaneously aware that even his sympathy might be bad. Thus, he feels so overwhelmed that he faints with pity. Dante says to Francesca, what you suffer here melts me to tears of pity and pain. Tear of pity and pain; pain in these words means empathy, and understanding of her, while pity refers to the judgmental and non appropriate state of her action by Dante. Dante explicitly says that he is overwhelmed by her confession and pride of her action that he faints. Moreover, Francesca and Paolo committed the sin of adultery and inferno 5 has 147 lines. Yet, the word adultery never appear in none of these lines. This is quite interesting and makes the reader think whether there is an underlying cause that lead the sinners to end up on this circle of Hell. This suggests that Dante expects his readers to realize that she is actually in Hell because of not the adultery action itself, but because of her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Electronic Medical Record Essay An electronic medical record [EMR] is a computerised record that maintains patients health related data, which is available to be used and accessed, only by authorised personnel, in order to deliver healthcare services within the health organisation (Hasanain, Vallmuur Clark, 2014, p. 1). From patient record keeping to administrative reporting and clinical support tools, the extensive functionality of an EMR solution has the potential to fundamentally transform how healthcare services are provided by the hospital (Goo, Huang Koo, 2015). EMRs have been available worldwide for some time and are implemented into hospitals because of the expected benefits such as increased delivery of patient care, improved access to patient ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Previous research on EMR implementation has identified that EMR implementation is most likely to fail due to user rejection, so it is important to recognize the thoughts and beliefs that doctors, nurses and other health professionals may have to be able to anticipate whether they will accept or reject the new EMR (Goo et al., 2015). Clearly, EMR technology exists, but even with the best technology success is not guaranteed. The challenge is the implementation, and understanding the reluctance of change amongst users is critical for developing adoption strategies (Khalifa, 2013). The complexity and usability of the system greatly impacts user acceptance. The more accurate and timely that data can be entered into the system, the more beneficial the system will be (Struik et al., 2014). If the system is poorly designed or if there is a lack of technical support and training, clinical workflow may become more time consuming creating resistance from clinicians (Goo et ... The Botany Of Desire Chapter Summaries The Botany of Desire by Michael Pollan is an interesting perspective of how humans over the centuries have filled certain desires through the use of plants. The apple represents the desire for sweetness, the tulip for beauty, marijuana for intoxication, and the potato for control. Pollan discusses the point and importance of these four plants and their development throughout history. Chapter 1: Desire: Sweetness/ Plant: The Apple This chapter goes into depth talking about the spread of the apple in the United States, and all over the world. It discusses the original uses for the apple and how it came to be the sweet fruit that we enjoy today. It explains how Johnny Appleseed really existed, and was named John Chapman. There are four types of conflict, man vs. man, man vs. nature, man vs. society, and man vs. himself. In the short story The Necklace the conflict would be described as man vs. himself, or man vs. society. The first idea that supports that statement would be when the author introduces the main character, Mathilde . He tells of how she is taunted about her shabby apartment for its dingy walls, worn out furniture, and ugly drapes. This is not only an external conflict of man vs. society, but it fuels the internal conflict. Mathilde thinks she deserves a better life than what she has with more riches and luxuries because of her beauty and charm. She is also resentful of her husband not being any higher class This is an internal conflict because Mathilde is not satisfied with her life and cannot accept how it is. This conflict giving the readers an explanation of Mathilde and the story s first problem. The second idea supporting the conflict being man vs. himself or man vs. society, is when Mathilde s husband invites her to a ball. He thought it would make her delighted, but instead she is sad everyone will show up beautifully dressed, while she does not even have an appropriate gown. This conflict is a mixture of man vs. man, and man vs. society, because even though she is doubting herself of elegancy, she is being persuaded by the fact of everyone else being dressed ... Advantages And Disadvantages Of Water Fluoridation WATER FLUORIDATION: A high degree of reduction in caries/ tooth decay occur when fluoride content is approximately IPPM (i.e. one part of fluoride to one million part of water), the prevalence of oral fluorosis increase greatly when the concentration of fluoride is more than 1pm. Therefore, the optimal concentration of community fluoridation is 1pm. The very first community water fluoridation was in Grand Rapids in USA in 1945 and these produced a reduction in caries between 40 50% in deciduous teeth while in permanent dentition is 50 60%. Apart from caries reduction, there is also a slower rate of progression of caries lesion less involvement of oral pulp. Many more people have caries free teeth or dentition. It was noticed that these four differences occur and its lifelong protection for the water fluoridation is interrupted the caries protective effect is diminished. Drinking habits are affected by temperature and failure to make adjustment for this many result in increasing incidence in fluorosis in one climate. To achieve maximum protection for both primary and secondary teeth, the consumption of fluoridated water is essential as it acts directly as topical agent as well as systematically during teeth formation. • 50. A Research Study On Bottlenose Dolphins Bottlenose dolphins are among the most familiar cetaceans, just as whales. The Bottlenose dolphin is a primitive member of the subfamily Delphinine. Bottlenose dolphins are grey, varying from dark grey at the top near the dorsal fin to very light grey and almost white at the underside. There are two ecotypes of bottlenose dolphins the coastal and the offshore. The Coastal dolphin has a small body and large flippers to increase agility and heat dissipation. They have a limited movement into offshore waters and like shallow warm water near the shore. Coastal dolphins for the most part remain in their region. The Offshore dolphin has a large body to help conserve heat and defend itself against predators. They are less restricted in range and movement and like deep, cold waters. Offshore dolphins in the North Atlantic have migratory patterns that follow prey distribution. Bottlenose dolphins live in groups typically of 10 30 members, called pods, but group size varies from single individuals up to more than 1,000. In a case study performed by Randall Wells who is the leader of the longest study of dolphin population since 1970, it was discovered that there are three main factors that influence migration: Seasonal changes in prey location, predation pressure and reproductive requirements. (Wells, 1980). In the fall dolphins follow mullet fish when they migrate from the bays into the Gulf of Mexico to spawn. Dolphins experience the most predation pressure during the summer when ...
