Dichotomy In Jane Eyre
Charlotte Brontë s Jane Eyre, has not only been interpreted as a novel advocating Victorian
conventional norms, but one that exercises the fiery act of female rebellion against hypocritical,
patriarchal oppression. With reference to the quotation provided, along with additional extracts from
the text, the angelic representation of Jane Eyre, along with the demonic demonstration of Bertha
Rochester, informed by the angel demon dichotomy, is not only significant in terms of the language
and imagery used to portray the female binary, but the voice of whom the representation is derived,
particularly Mr Rochester and Jane herself. Themes concerning the toppling of patriarchal oppression,
for the purpose of achieving female individualism, places the absolutism of the Victorian angel demon

253). The opening of chapter 26, Brontë (p. 253) introduces the morning of the matrimony between
Jane and Mr Rochester, to concluding the chapter in a tone of solitary helplessness, disillusionment
and a loss of purpose, as Jane professed, the whole consciousness of my life lorn, my love lost, my
hope quenched, my faith death struck, swayed full and mighty above me in one sullen mass (p. 262).
Mr Rochester exercises the Victorian female dichotomy through his use of angelic imagery in his
representation of Jane. Mr Rochester associates Jane s innocence and inexperience to her youth by
continually addressing her youth, being a young girl , with untainted clear eyes , whereas Bertha is
described in such a manner as to take the form of a red eyed demon (p. 259). Bertha s physical
representations, by Mr Rochester, is synonymous with her mental

Persuasive Essay On Freedom Of Religion
The First Amendment of the Constitution states the freedoms that citizens of the United States are
entitled to. This includes freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly and petition. I believe that
freedom of religion is one of the most important rights that US citizens have. It is a political principle
that forbids the government to restrict people s choices of beliefs. There are currently two clauses in
the Constitution that the government must follow regarding religion. The Establishment Clause states
that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion. The Free Exercise Clause
prohibits the restriction of citizens freedom to worship or not worship as they please. Engel v. Vitale

I believe that having the freedom of religion is essential to the United States because of the growing,
diverse population. Immigrants from all over the world that practice their own religion have the right
to come to the US and worship who and what they want. The United States is known as the melting
pot , which means its population includes many diverse races as well as religions. Because the
government is restricted from dictating an individual s religion, rituals, and beliefs, the US can truly
become a free nation.
Tom Cotton is a Republican who serves the current United States Senator for the state of Arkansas. He
became Senator in 2014 and before then he served as a Representative for the US for 2 years. Before
being involved in government, Cotton was in active duty in the Unites States Army from the years
2005 2009 and was in reserve from 2010 2013. With the many issues and policies that have been
controversies for a while, Tom Cotton has made it known where he stands. Regarding abortion, Cotton
has stated his is pro life. We must re establish a culture of life in America that reflects the value of
every life from conception through birth, life, and death. I am pro life and I will always vote that way
in Congress, says Cotton . He has received many endorsements including that of The Madison Project,
an organization dedicated to promoting pro life issues.

NBA Denver Nuggets squad really knows how to wear down their opponent. The Nuggets generally
are not a good basketball game, but they are extremely hard to beat at home. They play an up tempo
style offense and the visiting team can not keep up with them because they are not used to the thin
altitude. Subsequently, each of these professional sports teams effectively proves that people may
underestimate the powerful effects of climate; this shows that the home team is more comfortable and
acclimated to playing in their home environment, giving them an edge over the visiting opponents.

Some athletes are affected with sleep deprivation, which, according to the dictionary, is is the
condition of not having enough sleep; it can be either chronic or acute. A chronic sleep restricted state
can cause fatigue, daytime sleepiness, clumsiness and weight loss or weight gain. It adversely affects
the brain and cognitive function. Being sleepy while in the middle of a match is not a recipe for
success when it comes to a game. Traveling plays a small role in the huge impact that home field
advantage has on the visiting team. In most sports there are actual rules in place that have a negative
effect on the visitor. Baseball is the sport where the home field advantage rule can really impact the
game. Two specific rules are what give very big advantages to the home team. The first of the two is
that the home team no matter the case always gets to bat last. This can be crucial in a close game
because if the home team is winning at the top of the ninth inning, concluding that inning the ball
game is over. If the home team is tied or losing in the top of the ninth they have one last chance to bat,
nevertheless, so many home teams win the game in the bottom of the ninth. This rule positively
impacts the home team, yet poses a threat to the visitors. Tupelo High School

Reasons To Break A Social Norms Of Society
Social norms are unwritten rules about how to behave. They provide us with an expected idea of how
to behave in a particular Social group or culture. They act as accepted standards of behavior of social
group. It is the hope of society that people adhere to the social norms of the given society they find
themselves in. For my social norms paper, I chose to break a social norm by using a fork to drink soup
and then using my fingers to eat a rice dish at a restaurant on a dinner date with a guy I was meeting
for the first time. I chose to break this norm for several reasons. Firstly, I wanted an experience to
write about for my psychology paper. Secondly, I loved the fact that I was going to be the only odd
one in the restaurant and possibly get stares and murmurs from other customers staff. Most people that
eat at this restaurant eat with cutlery so I knew I was bound to be a topic of discussion. Thirdly, I
wanted to see the reaction of my date, if he was going to leave, play along or just feel uncomfortable.
Lastly, I just missed eating with my fingers as I come from a place where some foods are eaten with
the fingers. It was a Sunday evening so the restaurant was packed with customers. Before I embarked
on my mischief, my date and I ordered our meal and I excused myself to go to the washroom to wash
my hands ready to consume my food. I had every type of feeling running through my head. I was
feeling anxious, scared, weird, and stupid for the most part of the date

The Concept Of Leadership And Leadership
Thought Item 2 (Option 1)
In today s society the concept of leadership provides a structure for decisions to be made within teams,
organizations, and businesses. The notion that only leaders should be credited for the success or
failure carried out by their teams has been instilled in our minds since we first understood the concept
of hierarchies. The fact that most business schools even posses a required leadership course proves the
significance of this concept within today s society. While it is astounding how essential the idea of
leadership has become, it is important for us to begin looking at leadership under a new light:
leadership does not exist without followers because the followers themselves are the true leaders. It is

The amount of work that the head of a team puts into a project is quite small compared to the total
amount of work applied by everyone associated with the completion of the task. When defining the
significance of roles within organizations, it is important to factor in the composition of the culture as
a whole. Many people credit the creation of an organization s culture to the head of the organization.
While this single leader may define how they envision the culture to be, the members as a whole truly
develop the culture. This insight allows us to shift our focus from the leader to the followers. As a
society, by accepting the fact that followers are our true leaders, we are bound to endure many positive
and negative consequences resulting from the implementation. Followers will likely feel more
empowered to make more decisions because they will be receiving more recognition for their work.
This increase in empowerment will cause followers to be more productive within their roles, which
will lead to a harder working society as a whole as more and more organizational structures follow
suit. Another positive aspect of following this new approach is that we will steer away from the great
amount of negative consequences created by single leaders due to the current composition of
leadership. For businesses, less money will be allocated towards executives because they will no
longer make as much money solely off of their title within

Designing A Traditional Stage Gate Development Process
1. Design thinking refers to creative and systematic problem solving. For example, at the beginning of
the semester we were instructed to create a tower made only out of the materials provided to us, that
would not only support the weight of a single marshmallow, but also be the tallest in the class and it
had to be able to stand entirely on its own. In order to create the contraption, our groups had to use
design thinking. The design thinking process goes through several stages: discover, define, create and
evaluate. The process is unique and differs from a traditional stage gate development process because
it is not restricted by a definitive order and can be accomplished using the four stages in different
orders. Additionally, since the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, marketers may use an unstable product spec and scope creep. This means that the
marketers might begin research and then start to make assumptions about what the consumer wants, so
they will rush into developing the product when there are still several unknowns, or the scope or
function of the product keeps changing. This, in turn, will lead to failure down the road because once
the product is on the market there may be reasons to backtrack and fix things that were hastily decided
upon. Next, a company may have dysfunctional product teams which essentially means that the
company is not working together effectively to ensure the success of the new product. Oftentimes, a
company will pass the product along to different sections without collaborating together which ends
up creating inconsistencies and dysfunctionality within the product launch. Another reason products
fail is because they have too many projects in the pipeline and lack focus. For example, if a company
is working on launching several new products and dedicates time to both, they will lose focus on each
idea and those products will suffer. Workers are stretched too thin and there ends up being flaws or
issues with the final product. Lastly, companies may not have the proper skills, competencies or
knowledge needed to create the product. The process might begin with a great idea, but if the right

Why Is Ice Hockey Important To You Essay
The extracurricular activity that is most important to me is ice hockey. I have spent the past 7 years of
my life playing, improving, and learning. It has given me so many opportunities to learn to be a leader,
and to learn how to use communication skills. I think that ice hockey not only teaches you to be a
better person, teammate, and athlete, but that it teaches skills like making quick decisions and trusting
people around you. Hockey is a team sport, so the only way to truly be at your best is to play as a
team. These team skills are then reflected in your real life when working in groups or in teams on
projects. Hockey also gives you a basis to learn to communicate well with the people you are working
with making it an extremely useful skill. Furthermore, in hockey each small decision can ... Show

from hockey moved to the US from Germany about 7 years ago. I got to be a mentor for her. Watching

was the funniest person out on the ice. This past summer though, she moved back to Germany. I still

11 year old. Being a part of her growth made me so proud to be involved in the sport. It isn t always
planned the friends you make but it is so worth it. Another thing that I have learned from hockey is
how to control my emotions. Hockey is an emotional game making it often a challenge. When
someone hits you, you want to retaliate, but its funny how the refs alway see the retaliation and never
the inviting action. This means that to be the best, you have to be able to control your emotions. I have

when blood pressure is too high a multitude of chronic diseases can occur such as heart disease,
atherosclerosis, and negatively impact every blood vessel that travels around your body. According to
your blood pressure results (High Blood Pressure stage 1 Hypertension), you are in the unhealthy
range putting you at risk for these diseases and others like them. This can be a result of sedentary

the steps to lower it, this will also contribute to the levels of all the of aspects I have already spoken to
transition to the healthy ranges. To reduce your blood glucose levels you should make sure you follow
your training guidelines, whether that is strength training, moderate HIIT training, or just walking for
30 minutes a day, it is better than being sedentary. Also cut out unhealthy sugars, trans fats, and
saturated fats. Start to incorporate half a plate of greens and fruits and a fistfull of lean protein per
meal. Also to note try to eat regular meals throughout the day and add fiber to your diet. Soluble fiber
dissolves in water and helps control blood sugar levels and reduce cholesterol. Good sources include
barley, oatmeal, beans, nuts, and fruits such as apples, berries, citrus fruits, and pears. (Robinson Segal

The Ideas, Meanings, And Power Dynamics
The ideas, meanings, and power dynamics in the three books we read are very different, however
some similarities are present. As far as veiling, the meanings within each book are primarily
complimentary. When looking at the views on how certain affairs, such as veiling, should be enforced
and interacted with, we see more skewed ideas. In general, all three show hegemonic qualities, yet
Young and Defiant in Tehran reveals more dominating than hegemonic qualities. Veiling is an
extremely debated and controversial topic all over the world. From what has been revealed, it can be
presumed that a substantial difference of veiling across the board, is enforcement. From Veiled
Sentiments to Young and Defiant in Tehran, the differences in ideas regarding veiling are noticeably
contrasting. The three anthropology texts involved, include further inside information and feelings
regarding veiling. In Veiled Sentiments by Lila Abu Lughod, veiling is a choice and is not forced on
women. Due to the faith and freedom of choice, most women willingly and happily veil properly.
Although sexuality is not a popular norm among the Bedouin, it is not the sole reason for veiling.
Granted, women will be criticized and mocked for not veiling or taking part in sexual affiliations.
Such mockery is described in a story where grandmothers react to the granddaughters Western style
negligees. Once the grandmothers had found out about them, they put them on, initially embarrassing

Who were African American Loyalists?
Black loyalists were African Americans who helped fight for Britain during the revolutionary war in
return for their promise of freedom after the war was over. There were two declarations authorized by
Britain encouraging African American slaves to escape from slavery, leave their masters, and come
over to Britain to fight. There were over 100,000 slaves that escaped from slavery in order for their
chance to gain freedom.

Nilda also have the attitude of being strong headed but also portrays the type of person that needs love
and affection from a guy. Nilda felt so relieved when she met her boyfriend Rafa. She can achieve her
goals, but she is experiencing some contradictions of achieving her goal. Rafa did not show that he
really cares about his girlfriend s future. Without the love and support she does feel that she would not
be able to make it (Don t end your sentences in prepositions. Rephrase). Nilda also shows her
toughness and hold back her tears. She hangs out with the guys and pleases her boyfriend. She would
do anything to make her boyfriend happy. Without that sense of security, Nilda would not feel
comfortable personally (awkward phrasing you need to rephrase this. Maybe you can say she did not
feel comfortable with her new personality due to the various compromises she had to make for her
boyfriend). Not being happy with one s self, causes an individual to lose his or her true self. Nilda had
judgments from her mother and Rafa about what she wants to do for her future.
The author, Junot Diaz portrays, his feelings about life through his novel This is How You Lose Her
(You already said this! Too Repetative! Take it out or rephrase!). The author used a female character
Nilda. She showed how men and women can be equal in every respect such as dreams, jobs, and class.
Nilda would do anything to thrive throughout her life.

The Theme Of Romanticism In The Awakening By Kate Chopin
Some of the motives of the book the awakening were music, children, and houses. Music gives us a
sense of Edna ideological alignment in relations with the others characters. Edna first learns about the
emotive powers of music from Mademoiselle Reisz, whereas Adele Ratignole piano playing is
sentimental for Edna. When Adele is playing the piano it stirs new feelings and emotions in her. The

Challenges Facing Emerging Infectious Diseases
Introduction
Today, humankind is faced with various obstacles and challenges requiring global responses and

Acknowledging globalization trends and socio ecological systems
The One Health concept is a global initiative that is used towards expanding multidisciplinary
collaborations and infrastructures in all aspects of health care among humans, animals (both domestic
and wild), and the environment. Globalization can be conceptualized as the worldwide movement
toward economic, financial, and communication integration and is the process by which the world is
becoming increasingly interconnected as a result of factors such as increased worldwide trade and
cultural exchange. Over the past several years there has been a plethora of multifactorial global
revolutions, including: rapid population growth, changes in nutritional, agricultural and trade
practices, increasing international trade and travel, ecotourism and global warming (Coker et al.,
2011)(Dhama et al., 2013); Each of which, are organized around the industrialization and development
of a pre modern to post modern state movement that has contributed towards increased global
interdependence, increasing global interconnectedness through communication technologies and

The Color Red In Toni Morrison s Beloved
In the 1987 novel Beloved, Toni Morrison uses may important symbols that contribute to the novel s
message. One of the most significant symbols, however, is the use of color. Just as human nature is
both positive and negative, the color red is used in both good and bad connotations, shifting through
the novel. Anticipated and feared, the color red persists through the novel, representing death, love,
and ultimately, hope.
One of the most prominently negative experiences with the color is when the characters attended a
carnival and see dying, rotting red roses leading up the gates. While walking characters could smell
the stench of rotten roses (Morrison 56). Analyzing deeper, readers can realize that the red roses are
more than just what they seem to be but rather a metaphor for the character s mortality and sufferings
of the past. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Equitation Science Essay
Equitation science
Equitation science is an evidence based approach to horse training and riding that focuses on a
thorough understanding of both equine ethology and learning theory. This combination leads to more
effective horse training, but also plays a role in keeping horse riders and trainers safe around horses
(Starling et al., 2016).

This horse will not be given a drastic change in feed. All that will be done is a dash of Flaxseed oil
added too one feed per day. Several studies have been presented since 1986 showing improved
stamina and endurance in performance horses as a result of including fats and oils as an energy source
in their diets (Kapper, 2017). Priority at this point needs to be on his jumping. When doing flatwork,

This will also give the rider chance to gain feedback from the judge. Whilst this horse is beginning to
do harder work it must be made sure that there is not an extreme loss of electrolytes. Davies, (2009)
states that, for competition horse s electrolytes, should be fed after hard work and competitions. These
can be fed either in the form off a supplement or a less expensive alternative can be to feed the horse a
mixture of 50% salt and 50% Lo salt. When out hacking, hill work will be incorporated throughout. It
is important this horse builds up muscle behind as this is what judges will look for in a good working
hunter horse. Hunter horses are judged based on the horse s style, their form over fences, pace and the
judge s overall impression of the horse. The horse should also have a good attentive expression, good
scope, tight knees that go up to the horse s chin and/or nose and they jump up and around the fences

Direct Characterization Eliza Gant
Getting ready to go on stage, I felt the first stomach sinking feeling of being truly nervous, for the first

completely taken over my being. Her motherly instinct found its way into my teenage lifestyle, and
the way she approached conflict with a loud voice and obvious attitude altered my usually easy going
demeanor. I had never played a role so great and I was truly worried that my own unique

Phonograph Parlors
Commercialization of Records The Record Labels
In 1889 Phonograph Parlors began to open up, marking the debut of phonographs to the mass market.
The first phonograph parlor opened up in San Francisco May of 1889. Almost all American cities had
at least one by the mid 1890 s. These parlors would allow customers to sit amongst a desk and speak
through a tube to request a recorded title. The title would then play through a cylinder phonograph
from a room located below, allowing the customer to listen to it through two ear horns at their private
desk.
At the time the mass production of records was still in its infancy and was very primitive. One of the
first recording methods had live performers record their tracks onto a phonograph embodying up to
ten tubes leading to blank cylinders within other phonographs. Prior to this, each record had to be
individually produced. Nonetheless, even with this method artist had to re record their songs multiple
times.
In terms of audio fidelity, grampaphone discs were not superior to cylinder records. Up until the early
1900 s both cylinder and disc recordings were available. The disc method, on the other hand, did
provide further manufacturing advantages as for discs could be efficiently stamped allowing them to
be easily mass produced.

Personal Values And Beliefs Regarding Leadership
Leadership If you actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you
are a leader (John Quincy Adams, as cited in Forbes, 2014, p. 1). A leader is mentor, guiding others to
their best. In this paper, I will reflect on my personal values and beliefs regarding leadership. Next, I
will discuss a leader in my life that personally resonates with me. I will then discuss the attributes of
my chosen leader and relate them to theory on leadership, emotional intelligence, self awareness,
group dynamics and peace and power concepts and identify the leadership style that my chosen leader
embodies. Finally, I will discuss how my leadership philosophy and the newly acquired theory will
impact my future career as a nurse.
Personal Leadership Values
A leader is more than just running a group; it is some one who impacts at least one other person s life
in a positive way. A leader is someone who can guide others into accomplishing some success and
goals. Furthermore, empower others is essential in the ability to maintain positive leadership. A leader
is caring, must be willing to adapt and share the values of others, while still preserving their own
personal values and beliefs. One aspect of being a good leader is having strong self awareness
described as knowing your own strengths and weaknesses. Emotional intelligence, another aspect of
being a respectable leader, is knowing your inner emotional state and remaining in control of it.

Relationship Between T Cell Regulation And Type I Diabetes
Abstract The purpose of this study is to explore the relationships and mechanisms between T cell
regulation and type I diabetes by using NOD mice model. NOD mice can spontaneously develop a
form of autoimmune diabetes which is similar to human Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus. T cells
can destroy beta cells of the pancreatic islets which can produce insulin. Thus, by analyzing the
development of NOD mice autoimmune diabetes to determine potential treatment for type I diabetes.
Introduction
Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases. There are different kinds of diabetes mellitus, but
an abnormal blood sugar level over an extended time always can be detected from patients who have
this disease. Type one diabetes mellitus also known as insulin dependent diabetes, patients with this
type of diabetes have pancreatic beta cells destruction causing absolute lack of insulin with a tendency
to ketoacidosis. It can occur at any age, but more commonly occurs in young people. Patients with
acute onset of metabolic disorders symptoms need insulin injections to survive. This type of diabetes
including immune mediated and idiopathic two subtypes. Immune mediated diabetes often has one or
more autoantibodies present, for example, islet cell antibodies (ICA), insulin autoantibodies (IAA) and
glutamic acid decarboxylase 65 (GAD65) antibodies.

The Five Generalizations Essay

Dr. Osman Masahudu
The five generalizations that I believe are from the findings in the case study The Dangerous Morality
of Managing Earnings go back to the code of ethics that the SEC has set in place. The first is Honest
and ethical conduct, (Gibson, C.H. 2011) which a lot of the managers showed that they were not
honest by doing what they felt necessary to show a positive bottom line. The second generalization is
the full, fair, accurate, timely, and understandable disclosure in reports and documents that a company
files, (Gibson, C.H. 2011). By doing whatever it takes to try and improve the short term the managers
are not truly being truthful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ethical decision making is deeply rooted in cultural values. Cultural norms concerning what is right
and wrong, acceptable and unacceptable, good and bad , and important and unimportant shape one s
beliefs regarding the world around us, including the business environment, (Geiger, M.A., Quirvan, C.
Hazera, A. 2007). Management s ability to manage the earnings in the long run is that they will not
have any earnings in the long run if the type of manipulation that is going keeps occurring. The quote
from one of the examples, On accounting manipulations, a profit center controller reported:
Accounting is grey. Very little is absolute...You can save your company by doing things with sales and
expenses, and, if it s legal, then you are justified in doing it, (Gibson, C.H. 2011). This speaks volumes
that these type of people don t care about the true bottom line all they care about is finding a way to
manipulate it. In the long term you will effect everything what you do in the short term. The other
example would be the following: Last year we called our customers and asked if they could take early
delivery. We generated an extra $300,000 in sales at the last minute. We were scratching for
everything. We made our plans, but we cleaned out our backlog and started in the hole this year. We
missed our first quarter sales plan. Will catch up by the end of the second quarter, (Gibson, C.H.
2011). This shows that if you change that

Limitations Of Naturalistic Observation
Naturalistic observation involves making observations of everyday events and recording those
observations in an objective manner (Stangor, 2016, p.39). Participants of a naturalistic observation
are observed in natural surroundings. The goal of naturalistic observation is to create a snapshot of the
current state of affairs. One advantage to naturalistic observation is that it provides a way to collect
data about the topic of interest (Stangor, 2016, p.40). Naturalistic observation is said to have
ecological validity. Ecological validity refers to the extent to which the research is conducted in
situations that are similar to everyday life experiences of the participants (Stangor, 2016, p.40). This
research design also allows the researcher to observe group behaviors in a specific setting. Despite its
advantages naturalistic observation also has some limitations. This design does not assess
relationships among variables (Stangor, 2016, p.39). Meaning that a cause and effect relationship
cannot be created. The results of this observation are generally limited to the group being studied.
More importantly, naturalistic observation cannot be used to test research hypotheses about which
types of group behavior are related to or caused by which other variables (Stangor, 2016, p.41).

Pros And Disadvantages Of Globalization And Globalization
Long gone the days in which we find products that are locally made. Many of the items we own have
been across seas. Our country has become much more of an importing company than an exporting
one. We consume so many of the goods that countries overseas provide. As a country facing
controversy on economic growth it is important to get back to the concept of manufacturing our own
goods. Our world now is to globalize everything, especially if it increases our profits and lower our
production costs. Introduction to Globalization and Manufacturing Globalization refers to act on trade
across other nations. It basically is connecting with other markets to provide the goods. It is to make
one s own economic growth and make it global. It takes one business from being locally known to
being a worldwide item. Globalization has taken its shift to less developed countries. It has been given
less developed countries the chance to be part of the global market. The less developed countries in
return provide their services in production at a very low price. Every concept has a goal. In the case of
globalization it is primarily meant to take businesses a higher advantage of cutting their operating
costs and making more profit. Companies find alternative places that will provide the resources
needed to provide the final product. Globalization seems like a sweet deal to many businesses that are
trying to take their product worldwide. Many of the people that seem to be affected by this

Analysis Of Terence Hanbury White s The Once And Future King
Arthurian legend, with its round table, wizard, unfaithful queen, gallant knight, vengeful son, and well
intentioned king, has long been retold. While most authors employed the legend as a tapestry to depict
religious themes, The Once and Future King uniquely utilizes the tale to provide a political critique of
the author s modern day society. Terence Hanbury White embraced Malory s version by creating four
sequential books eventually published together under the title The Once and Future King. Shifting
away from the heavily Christian oriented tale, White uses the story of King Arthur as platform to
express his opinions on his own world during the mid 1900 s. Focusing on the increasingly divided,
violent attitudes of his generation, White imposes an alternative vision of the utility of war. As he
converges on and diverges from pacifistic sentiment, White s first book, The Sword and the Stone and
fourth book, The Candle in the Wind illustrate political critique of both old and new society. The
golden lines of The Sword in the Stone and The Candle in the Wind earn their status from the way
they encapsulate the predominant pacifistic theme through symbolism. When young Arthur lives
among geese, he notices sentries keeping watch, and confused of their purpose, he asks a goose by the
name of Lyo Lyok if they are preparing for war amongst their flock. The disgusted goose responds,
But what creature could be so low as to go about in bands, to murder others of its own blood?

there are underlying messages communicated through Hamlet s craziness and Claudius confusion. The
ideas are conversed through Claudius and Hamlet and convey the morals of the drama, Hamlet.
Shakespeare also takes the liberty in this section to show how diverse and opposite the characters of

Claudius is quite slow on the uptake. Hamlet just told Claudius that Polonius body was up the stairs

Accounting Scandals Reflection
Enron was founded in July of 1985. Enron was an electricity and natural gas company which was a
fortune 500 company and it was ranked the sixth largest energy company in the world. Enron s stock
went from a peak of $90.75 to $0.67. This was very detrimental to stockholders. Enron s top
executives sold their stock a long time before the stock price fell. A lot of lower level employees could
not sell their stock because of deals they made with the company. This later caused a lot of these
employees to lose their life savings and everything they had worked for. Enron used a very complex
accounting method to trick the stock market. This method was called mark to market accounting.
Enron used this method of accounting to predict and project their earnings in a long term period.
These earnings were projected based on the long term energy contracts Enron was going to make. This
could have been money that was not made at that point. This made Enron s stock price skyrocket at a
very fast pace, making a lot of employees and general public invest in the stock. Enron stock seemed
to be a very secure and profitable investment which would make people lots of money. The Fortune
500 company went down very quickly. In August of 2001, the CEO of Enron, Jeffrey Skilling
resigned. He randomly resigned and a lot of suspicions arose. His resignation was described to be

The Background Of The Rorschach Inkblot Test
Background: German psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, Hermann Rorschach, was the brains behind the
commonly known, Rorschach Inkblot Test . The Inkblot Test was designed and published in 1927 and
is comprised of ten inkblots projected on cards with five of them being in black and white and the
other five in color. The purpose of this test is to be able to assess underlying psychological issues that
someone might be reluctant to divulge directly. This test developed into a test that assesses personality
traits of individuals ranging from ages five to adults by means of projecting their own emotions onto
these unambiguous figures . Originally, Rorschach designed this test to produce a profile for people
suffering from mental disorders, like schizophrenia and Rorschach himself was dissatisfied with using
it as a projective test. The combination of altering a test into something it was not designed to do and
the test yielding extremely subjective and variable responses, it has stirred up quite a bit of
controversy as to whether this psychological measure is actually reliable and valid. In an effort to give
this test validity, many tried to create a scoring system to provide reliability and validity. None seemed
to be successful alone, however in 1973, American Psychologist, John E. Exner M.S., B.S., devised a
scoring system in which he combined the best components of the main five scoring systems at the
time. Exner published the paper, The Rorschach: A Comprehensive System,

President Andrew Jackson
In regards to the overall effect a single president has had in the course of US history, President
Andrew Jackson should be taken into consideration. Though his morals and personality have long
been critiqued and scrutinized, Jackson s presidency had an indisputable effect upon the power of the
president as an individual. Jackson s profound influence upon the office of presidency was
exemplified within his fiscal, social, and political interventions in American politics during the mid
nineteenth century.
President Andrew Jackson changed the office of presidency through his continuous actions, which
served to diminish the power of the federal government thus increasing both his political and
economic agendas. The economic policies Jackson enacted demonstrated his distrust of both large
government and Northeastern power brokers. Due to his hatred for big government, Jackson detested
the Bank of the United States. Jackson ensured that the Second Bank of the United States (BUS) failed

by withdrawing federal funds from the bank, which he later would deposit in his pet banks. Although

Antony And Cleopatra Comparison Analysis
In Antony and Cleopatra, Shakespeare shifts from praising Antony as a great warrior to condemning
him by depicting the gradual decline of his honor and image in order to show his inner battle between
reason and emotion. This is an apparent theme in both the book and the play, though there might be
some small differences, both shows how this inner battle defeats him and leaves Cleopatra with most
of the power. One thing that I noticed is that Cleopatra seemed far more regal in the book than in the
play. For example, in the book when Antony wants Scarus to kiss her favoring hand (205), he makes it
sound like a big honor that he is able to do this. In addition, the way he describes her makes me
imagine that it is a regal and important moment. In the play, however she does a little dance after he
kisses her hand, which to me seemed like she was acting inappropriately and taking away the
importance of the moment. It is almost as if she was undermining what the warrior had done. She
made what should have been a serious and honorable moment and turned it into a joke. Even though
Antony loves Cleopatra his rational side takes over when he decides to marry Octavia in order to show
his loyalty to Rome. He knows that his duty is to Rome and it is where he is supposed to be and the
people of Rome are not happy about all of the time he has been spending in Egypt. To fix this and
mend their bond Antony agrees to marry Caesar s sister Octavia. This mend is shown when Caesar

Twelve Angry Men Character Analysis
The way one person treats another is often a direct reflection of how they view themselves. People
with poor self images are often quick to judge, demean, belittle, and rebuke others for their mistakes,
shortcomings and flaws, simply out of spite or to protect their own reputation. This is true even in the
1957 MGM film Twelve Angry Men, where eleven of the twelve jurors attempt to convict a young
man not based off of sound evidence, but off of personal prejudice and self righteousness alone. It was
the leadership of the eighth juror, however, that convinced the other jurors to set aside their personal
biases to acquit the young man accused of killing his father. In the film, the eighth juror, Mr. Davis,
analyzes the self images of the other eleven jurors and displays the core values of humility, patience
and mercy in order to lead the group to the consensus that the accused is not guilty.
The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines humility as the quality or state of being humble and freedom
from pride or arrogance . Humility, simply put, is the opposite of prejudice. In the film, many of the
jurors enter the room with preconceived notions, falsified beliefs and irrational ideas about the
accused. Others enter the room unsure of their vote and to protect their pride, immediately side with
the jurors who believe the young man is guilty. Examples of this include how several of the jurors
stereotype the accused on the basis of race and how the third juror in particular forms a bias against
the young man simply because of his
age and the fact that the young man reminds him of his son. Mr. Davis, however, takes another stance.
In the book The Achievement Habit: Stop Wishing, Start Doing and Take Command of Your Life, Dr.
Bernard Roth states that true mindfulness is seeing without judging (Roth 205). Mr. Davis perfectly
models this quote as he approaches the issue with sympathy towards the young man in regard to his

Hester Prynne Change In The Scarlet Letter
In the midst of the mid seventeenth century, in Boston, Massachusetts, Hester Prynne is condemned
by her Puritan neighbors. Hester and her Puritan friends moved to New England for religious freedom,
and for this woman to commit adultery was condemned. Hester Prynne s character is constantly
changing and developing within the storyline. The reader is not informed of any further details of
Prynne s life before her sin, therefore, it cannot be assured what her character was like before the
affair. One of the first major events in the novel was Hester being released from prison, and tagged
with the letter A. The prison land is said to be overgrown with weeds and burs. Weeds are dreary,
giving the somber mood of the prison. Weeds and burs are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

home, meets Governor Bellingham s sister. The sister invites her to a party honoring Satan, and Hester
denies the offer. With this, Hawthorne uses it as proof that Pearl is already changing her mother. The

Persuasive Essay On Factory Farming
It is extremely easy to be satisfied in our sanctuary world to eventually turn to the violence and
despair that our everyday life decision partakes, and that the country buys into. If the world knew what
the horrors of the meat industry are doing, businesses will decrease. To keep their secrets unknown,
meat and animal factory farms are carefully keeping quiet, like a fugitive the fugitive they are because
they just committed murder. People around the world are making efforts while the animal cruelty is
becoming a more of a mainstream. Factory farming is probably the horrific thing you can do the poor
helpless animals. Most factory farming affects pigs, cows, chickens, and other animals that are used
for milk, food, and eggs. Some of these animals grow faster than others, so in large groups, they are
shipped onto trucks through traitorous terrains and sent to be killed in a slaughterhouse. Animals
living through the nightmare of getting their throats slit, while they are alive and conscious. All these
animals live and exercise every single day to becoming the energy to producing our human
consumption. Cows are now being used to express the idea to eat more chicken, without knowing the
truth.
In the advertisement, a football game was being held for the Game of the Week between the Eagles
and Bulldogs. At one moment, the reporter was rudely interrupted by something in the sky. It was

They used their extensive technology, sports production, and broadcast experience to create an
innovative company that focuses on developing technology based enhancements for the Internet,

The 1st Ten Line is a yellow line that is superimposed on the field so that viewers at home can see just
how far the offensive team has to go to reach a first down. This is helpful in that it allows first time
viewers to get a better grasp on the game and the overall offensive objective, which is to gain first
downs until the team either kicks a field goal or scores a touchdown. The following is a picture of the
1st Ten Line:
Figure 1: The yellow line
With the same technology used for the 1st Ten Line the telestrator enables broadcasters to draw lines

Perhaps the most innovative technology has come in the world of auto racing, specifically NASCAR.
Sportvision has created many new technological advances that make watching NASCAR more
enjoyable and fan friendly. RACEf/x is a car tracking system that collects car performance data from
every Winston Cup car five times per second, providing speed, position, time behind leader, brake

throughout the body. Red blood cells are normally round and flexible the moves easily throughout the
blood vessels but, in sickle cell anemia the red blood cell is sticky, rigid, and has a crescent moon
shape. The irregular shape cells can get stuck in the small blood vessels, which can slow or block ...

These are the reasons worldwide governments such as Australia are approaching and reviewing the
risks and eliminate the potential hazards in order to protect their critical infrastructure to keep running
on their system.
Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System Network systems (SCADA), Distributed Control
System (DCS) and Industrial Control Systems (ICS) are examples of controlling their Critical
Infrastructure. Because once the hackers are able to gain access to the SCADA Network system and
sabotage the system, then the Critical Infrastructure would lead to cyberwar and chaos.
Further details about this topic will be discussed later in this research paper including the
vulnerabilities attacks that are involved in Critical Infrastructure. Potential risk vulnerabilities that are
used to make offense an attack are identified and risk and impact analysis on these potential risks to
prevent from further attacks are also identified.

Old Earth, Or Progressive Creationism
Old earth, or progressive creationism shares similarities with theistic evolution in that it places the age
of the earth at 4 5 billion years ago and the universe at 10 20 billion years ago. However, they are not
satisfied with the claim that God guided evolution brought the world into existence, eventually
arriving at the world we live in today. Robert C. Newman, an astrophysicist and New Testament
professor acknowledges that it would be possible for God to use evolution as a creation tool, just as it
is possible that God created solely through supernatural means. However, he thinks that there are too
many unanswered questions left for both positions. It is from this conviction that Newman places
himself in the progressive creationist camp. This view is named such because it sees creation as
occurring in a progression with various levels which built upon one another, using a combination of
supernatural intervention and providential guidance to harmonize the histories found in both the
biblical account of Genesis and the scientific account we find in nature. Newman is quick to point out
that there are many variations of the old earth creationist position. Of these, however, he finds three
main varieties, which differ primarily in their views on the nature of the days of the creation week.
These three categories are: (1) The day age view. As implied by the title, this view considers the days
to be chronological, but not 24 hour periods. Rather, they are long spans of time,

When I Love To Read Literature
Sometimes all it takes to turn the person who hates to read, into the person who loves to read. I know
that this has been the case for me at least. When I was a child I hated to read more than anything, but
over time I learned to appreciate it more and more. I believe that there are three authors, who were
able to influence a young child who hated to read, and created a young adult who doesn t mind
reading and on occasion does it for fun. Those three authors are Gary Paulsen, John Flanagan, and
Stephen Hunter. The first author to have an effect on my reading habits has to be Gary Paulsen. Gary
Paulsen was the other of many books, but the ones I remember the best are his Hatchet series, and his
book the rifle. The books main character Brian Robeson, who is flying in a small airplane to join his
father for a few months, but once in the air the pilot of Brian s plane unexpectedly suffers a heart
attack. The young Brian is just lucky enough to manage to crash land the plane into a large pond in the

Examples Of Allegory In The Masque Of The Red Death

This story about a prince named Prospero and his friends try to leave the city to get through the

Use Of Astrology And Its Effects On The Earth And Behavior...

Soon, you ll make anyone annoyed when talking about their sign or your own. The first step is to learn
the generic, stereotypical views of each sign. Since there are twelve of them, that s going to take some
memorization skills. Unfortunately, this is not a paper regarding how to memorize subject material

  • 2. Dichotomy In Jane Eyre Charlotte Brontë s Jane Eyre, has not only been interpreted as a novel advocating Victorian conventional norms, but one that exercises the fiery act of female rebellion against hypocritical, patriarchal oppression. With reference to the quotation provided, along with additional extracts from the text, the angelic representation of Jane Eyre, along with the demonic demonstration of Bertha Rochester, informed by the angel demon dichotomy, is not only significant in terms of the language and imagery used to portray the female binary, but the voice of whom the representation is derived, particularly Mr Rochester and Jane herself. Themes concerning the toppling of patriarchal oppression, for the purpose of achieving female individualism, places the absolutism of the Victorian angel demon dichotomy ... The opening of chapter 26, Brontë (p. 253) introduces the morning of the matrimony between Jane and Mr Rochester, to concluding the chapter in a tone of solitary helplessness, disillusionment and a loss of purpose, as Jane professed, the whole consciousness of my life lorn, my love lost, my hope quenched, my faith death struck, swayed full and mighty above me in one sullen mass (p. 262). Mr Rochester exercises the Victorian female dichotomy through his use of angelic imagery in his representation of Jane. Mr Rochester associates Jane s innocence and inexperience to her youth by continually addressing her youth, being a young girl , with untainted clear eyes , whereas Bertha is described in such a manner as to take the form of a red eyed demon (p. 259). Bertha s physical representations, by Mr Rochester, is synonymous with her mental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Persuasive Essay On Freedom Of Religion The First Amendment of the Constitution states the freedoms that citizens of the United States are entitled to. This includes freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly and petition. I believe that freedom of religion is one of the most important rights that US citizens have. It is a political principle that forbids the government to restrict people s choices of beliefs. There are currently two clauses in the Constitution that the government must follow regarding religion. The Establishment Clause states that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion. The Free Exercise Clause prohibits the restriction of citizens freedom to worship or not worship as they please. Engel v. Vitale was a United States Supreme Court ... Immigrants from all over the world that practice their own religion have the right to come to the US and worship who and what they want. The United States is known as the melting pot , which means its population includes many diverse races as well as religions. Because the government is restricted from dictating an individual s religion, rituals, and beliefs, the US can truly become a free nation. Tom Cotton is a Republican who serves the current United States Senator for the state of Arkansas. He became Senator in 2014 and before then he served as a Representative for the US for 2 years. Before being involved in government, Cotton was in active duty in the Unites States Army from the years 2005 2009 and was in reserve from 2010 2013. With the many issues and policies that have been controversies for a while, Tom Cotton has made it known where he stands. Regarding abortion, Cotton has stated his is pro life. We must re establish a culture of life in America that reflects the value of every life from conception through birth, life, and death. When it comes to basketball, the NBA Denver Nuggets squad really knows how to wear down their opponent. The Nuggets generally are not a good basketball game, but they are extremely hard to beat at home. They play an up tempo style offense and the visiting team can not keep up with them because they are not used to the thin altitude. Subsequently, each of these professional sports teams effectively proves that people may underestimate the powerful effects of climate; this shows that the home team is more comfortable and acclimated to playing in their home environment, giving them an edge over the visiting opponents. Some athletes are affected with sleep deprivation, which, according to the dictionary, is is the condition of not having enough sleep; it can be either chronic or acute. A chronic sleep restricted state can cause fatigue, daytime sleepiness, clumsiness and weight loss or weight gain. It adversely affects the brain and cognitive function. Being sleepy while in the middle of a match is not a recipe for success when it comes to a game. Traveling plays a small role in the huge impact that home field advantage has on the visiting team. In most sports there are actual rules in place that have a negative effect on the visitor. Baseball is the sport where the home field advantage rule can really impact the game. Two specific rules are what give very big advantages to the home team. The first of the two is that the home team no matter the case always gets to bat last. This can be crucial in a close game because if the home team is winning at the top of the ninth inning, concluding that inning the ball game is over. If the home team is tied or losing in the top of the ninth they have one last chance to bat, nevertheless, so many home teams win the game in the bottom of the ninth. This rule positively impacts the home team, yet poses a threat to the visitors. Tupelo High School ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Reasons To Break A Social Norms Of Society Social norms are unwritten rules about how to behave. They provide us with an expected idea of how to behave in a particular Social group or culture. They act as accepted standards of behavior of social group. It is the hope of society that people adhere to the social norms of the given society they find themselves in. For my social norms paper, I chose to break a social norm by using a fork to drink soup and then using my fingers to eat a rice dish at a restaurant on a dinner date with a guy I was meeting for the first time. I chose to break this norm for several reasons. Firstly, I wanted an experience to write about for my psychology paper. Secondly, I loved the fact that I was going to be the only odd one in the restaurant and possibly get stares and murmurs from other customers staff. Most people that eat at this restaurant eat with cutlery so I knew I was bound to be a topic of discussion. Thirdly, I wanted to see the reaction of my date, if he was going to leave, play along or just feel uncomfortable. Lastly, I just missed eating with my fingers as I come from a place where some foods are eaten with the fingers. It was a Sunday evening so the restaurant was packed with customers. Before I embarked on my mischief, my date and I ordered our meal and I excused myself to go to the washroom to wash my hands ready to consume my food. I had every type of feeling running through my head. I was feeling anxious, scared, weird, and stupid for the most part of the date ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Concept Of Leadership And Leadership Thought Item 2 (Option 1) In today s society the concept of leadership provides a structure for decisions to be made within teams, organizations, and businesses. The notion that only leaders should be credited for the success or failure carried out by their teams has been instilled in our minds since we first understood the concept of hierarchies. The fact that most business schools even posses a required leadership course proves the significance of this concept within today s society. While it is astounding how essential the idea of leadership has become, it is important for us to begin looking at leadership under a new light: leadership does not exist without followers because the followers themselves are the true leaders. It is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The amount of work that the head of a team puts into a project is quite small compared to the total amount of work applied by everyone associated with the completion of the task. When defining the significance of roles within organizations, it is important to factor in the composition of the culture as a whole. Many people credit the creation of an organization s culture to the head of the organization. While this single leader may define how they envision the culture to be, the members as a whole truly develop the culture. This insight allows us to shift our focus from the leader to the followers. As a society, by accepting the fact that followers are our true leaders, we are bound to endure many positive and negative consequences resulting from the implementation. Followers will likely feel more empowered to make more decisions because they will be receiving more recognition for their work. This increase in empowerment will cause followers to be more productive within their roles, which will lead to a harder working society as a whole as more and more organizational structures follow suit. Another positive aspect of following this new approach is that we will steer away from the great amount of negative consequences created by single leaders due to the current composition of leadership. For businesses, less money will be allocated towards executives because they will no longer make as much money solely off of their title within ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Designing A Traditional Stage Gate Development Process 1. Design thinking refers to creative and systematic problem solving. For example, at the beginning of the semester we were instructed to create a tower made only out of the materials provided to us, that would not only support the weight of a single marshmallow, but also be the tallest in the class and it had to be able to stand entirely on its own. In order to create the contraption, our groups had to use design thinking. The design thinking process goes through several stages: discover, define, create and evaluate. The process is unique and differs from a traditional stage gate development process because it is not restricted by a definitive order and can be accomplished using the four stages in different orders. Additionally, since the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, marketers may use an unstable product spec and scope creep. This means that the marketers might begin research and then start to make assumptions about what the consumer wants, so they will rush into developing the product when there are still several unknowns, or the scope or function of the product keeps changing. This, in turn, will lead to failure down the road because once the product is on the market there may be reasons to backtrack and fix things that were hastily decided upon. Next, a company may have dysfunctional product teams which essentially means that the company is not working together effectively to ensure the success of the new product. Oftentimes, a company will pass the product along to different sections without collaborating together which ends up creating inconsistencies and dysfunctionality within the product launch. Another reason products fail is because they have too many projects in the pipeline and lack focus. For example, if a company is working on launching several new products and dedicates time to both, they will lose focus on each idea and those products will suffer. Workers are stretched too thin and there ends up being flaws or issues with the final product. Lastly, companies may not have the proper skills, competencies or knowledge needed to create the product. The process might begin with a great idea, but if the right ... It has given me so many opportunities to learn to be a leader, and to learn how to use communication skills. I think that ice hockey not only teaches you to be a better person, teammate, and athlete, but that it teaches skills like making quick decisions and trusting people around you. Hockey is a team sport, so the only way to truly be at your best is to play as a team. These team skills are then reflected in your real life when working in groups or in teams on projects. This past summer though, she moved back to Germany. I still text her on a regular basis despite our age difference. She made the U15 German National Team as an 11 year old. Being a part of her growth made me so proud to be involved in the sport. It isn t always planned the friends you make but it is so worth it. Another thing that I have learned from hockey is how to control my emotions. Hockey is an emotional game making it often a challenge. When someone hits you, you want to retaliate, but its funny how the refs alway see the retaliation and never the inviting action. This means that to be the best, you have to be able to control your emotions. I have always seen myself as a big physical player, so even on a clean hit, I sometimes get ... • 12. The Ideas, Meanings, And Power Dynamics The ideas, meanings, and power dynamics in the three books we read are very different, however some similarities are present. As far as veiling, the meanings within each book are primarily complimentary. When looking at the views on how certain affairs, such as veiling, should be enforced and interacted with, we see more skewed ideas. In general, all three show hegemonic qualities, yet Young and Defiant in Tehran reveals more dominating than hegemonic qualities. Veiling is an extremely debated and controversial topic all over the world. From what has been revealed, it can be presumed that a substantial difference of veiling across the board, is enforcement. From Veiled Sentiments to Young and Defiant in Tehran, the differences in ideas regarding veiling are noticeably contrasting. The three anthropology texts involved, include further inside information and feelings regarding veiling. In Veiled Sentiments by Lila Abu Lughod, veiling is a choice and is not forced on women. Due to the faith and freedom of choice, most women willingly and happily veil properly. Although sexuality is not a popular norm among the Bedouin, it is not the sole reason for veiling. Granted, women will be criticized and mocked for not veiling or taking part in sexual affiliations. • 28. Limitations Of Naturalistic Observation Naturalistic observation involves making observations of everyday events and recording those observations in an objective manner (Stangor, 2016, p.39). Participants of a naturalistic observation are observed in natural surroundings. The goal of naturalistic observation is to create a snapshot of the current state of affairs. One advantage to naturalistic observation is that it provides a way to collect data about the topic of interest (Stangor, 2016, p.40). Naturalistic observation is said to have ecological validity. Ecological validity refers to the extent to which the research is conducted in situations that are similar to everyday life experiences of the participants (Stangor, 2016, p.40). This research design also allows the researcher to observe group behaviors in a specific setting. Despite its advantages naturalistic observation also has some limitations. This design does not assess relationships among variables (Stangor, 2016, p.39). Meaning that a cause and effect relationship cannot be created. The results of this observation are generally limited to the group being studied. More importantly, naturalistic observation cannot be used to test research hypotheses about which types of group behavior are related to or caused by which other variables (Stangor, 2016, p.41). • 30. Analysis Of Terence Hanbury White s The Once And Future King Arthurian legend, with its round table, wizard, unfaithful queen, gallant knight, vengeful son, and well intentioned king, has long been retold. While most authors employed the legend as a tapestry to depict religious themes, The Once and Future King uniquely utilizes the tale to provide a political critique of the author s modern day society. Terence Hanbury White embraced Malory s version by creating four sequential books eventually published together under the title The Once and Future King. Shifting away from the heavily Christian oriented tale, White uses the story of King Arthur as platform to express his opinions on his own world during the mid 1900 s. Focusing on the increasingly divided, violent attitudes of his generation, White imposes an alternative vision of the utility of war. As he converges on and diverges from pacifistic sentiment, White s first book, The Sword and the Stone and fourth book, The Candle in the Wind illustrate political critique of both old and new society. The golden lines of The Sword in the Stone and The Candle in the Wind earn their status from the way they encapsulate the predominant pacifistic theme through symbolism. When young Arthur lives among geese, he notices sentries keeping watch, and confused of their purpose, he asks a goose by the name of Lyo Lyok if they are preparing for war amongst their flock. The trivialization of Katherine s role is challenged when Strafford says, There s no protocol for women attending, and Katherine s responds, There s no protocol for a man circling Earth either, sir. • 33. Accounting Scandals Of Enron Company Baasit Kazi Ms. Bogert College Accounting 1 1B 28 April, 2015 Accounting Scandals Reflection Enron was founded in July of 1985. Enron was an electricity and natural gas company which was a fortune 500 company and it was ranked the sixth largest energy company in the world. Enron s stock went from a peak of $90.75 to $0.67. This was very detrimental to stockholders. Enron s top executives sold their stock a long time before the stock price fell. A lot of lower level employees could not sell their stock because of deals they made with the company. This later caused a lot of these employees to lose their life savings and everything they had worked for. Enron used a very complex accounting method to trick the stock market. This method was called mark to market accounting. Enron used this method of accounting to predict and project their earnings in a long term period. These earnings were projected based on the long term energy contracts Enron was going to make. This could have been money that was not made at that point. This made Enron s stock price skyrocket at a very fast pace, making a lot of employees and general public invest in the stock. Enron stock seemed to be a very secure and profitable investment which would make people lots of money. The Fortune 500 company went down very quickly. In August of 2001, the CEO of Enron, Jeffrey Skilling resigned. He randomly resigned and a lot of suspicions arose. His resignation was described to be because of personal reasons. ... • 34. The Background Of The Rorschach Inkblot Test Background: German psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, Hermann Rorschach, was the brains behind the commonly known, Rorschach Inkblot Test . The Inkblot Test was designed and published in 1927 and is comprised of ten inkblots projected on cards with five of them being in black and white and the other five in color. The purpose of this test is to be able to assess underlying psychological issues that someone might be reluctant to divulge directly. This test developed into a test that assesses personality traits of individuals ranging from ages five to adults by means of projecting their own emotions onto these unambiguous figures . Originally, Rorschach designed this test to produce a profile for people suffering from mental disorders, like schizophrenia and Rorschach himself was dissatisfied with using it as a projective test. The combination of altering a test into something it was not designed to do and the test yielding extremely subjective and variable responses, it has stirred up quite a bit of controversy as to whether this psychological measure is actually reliable and valid. In an effort to give this test validity, many tried to create a scoring system to provide reliability and validity. None seemed to be successful alone, however in 1973, American Psychologist, John E. Exner M.S., B.S., devised a scoring system in which he combined the best components of the main five scoring systems at the time. Exner published the paper, The Rorschach: A Comprehensive System, ... Though his morals and personality have long been critiqued and scrutinized, Jackson s presidency had an indisputable effect upon the power of the president as an individual. Jackson s profound influence upon the office of presidency was exemplified within his fiscal, social, and political interventions in American politics during the mid nineteenth century. President Andrew Jackson changed the office of presidency through his continuous actions, which served to diminish the power of the federal government thus increasing both his political and economic agendas. The economic policies Jackson enacted demonstrated his distrust of both large government and Northeastern power brokers. Due to his hatred for big government, Jackson detested the Bank of the United States. Jackson ensured that the Second Bank of the United States (BUS) failed by vetoing Congress s attempt to recharter it in ..... In addition Jackson also secured its decrepit state by withdrawing federal funds from the bank, which he later would deposit in his pet banks. Although his hatred for the bank invoked controversy there were many that shared his economic beliefs. In Doc 4 this is exemplified as Jackson is portrayed is the hero slaying the hydra headed monster. Efrain Rincon Jr Professor Yuhas English 6 6 May, 2013 An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge and The Red Convertible An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge by Ambrose Bierce and The Red Convertible by Louise Erdrich both recount sorrowful tales of men during times of war. The stories differ in that An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge is a story written in reverse, where the readers do not truly know the plot until the end whereas The Red Convertible is just a man recounting the story of his long lost brother. However despite their differences, both of the stories continue to build up hope in the reader only to find nothing but a sorrowful story at the end. The entire story was just a snapshot that occurred in his mind before his death. The Red Convertible by Louise Endrich was written in 1984 and revolves around a Vietnam veteran and his brother. Lyman Lamartine is a young man whose brother has just returned from the Vietnam War and has been traumatized by what he had seen overseas. Before the war, Lyman and his brother Henry were extremely close. Before Henry departed for the war, and as Lyman recounts in the story, the two bonded over a red convertible. This car proves to be symbolic, both throughout, and at the end of the story, due to the change in Henry s behavior, illustrated by this quote from when Henry returns: We had always been together before. But he was such a loner now that I didn t know how to take it. When Henry returns, he has no desire to ride in the red convertible, no desire to wear the bright colored clothes he used to dawn instead Henry just liked to sit around and sob about the war. • 37. Antony And Cleopatra Comparison Analysis In Antony and Cleopatra, Shakespeare shifts from praising Antony as a great warrior to condemning him by depicting the gradual decline of his honor and image in order to show his inner battle between reason and emotion. This is an apparent theme in both the book and the play, though there might be some small differences, both shows how this inner battle defeats him and leaves Cleopatra with most of the power. One thing that I noticed is that Cleopatra seemed far more regal in the book than in the play. For example, in the book when Antony wants Scarus to kiss her favoring hand (205), he makes it sound like a big honor that he is able to do this. In addition, the way he describes her makes me imagine that it is a regal and important moment. In the play, however she does a little dance after he kisses her hand, which to me seemed like she was acting inappropriately and taking away the importance of the moment. It is almost as if she was undermining what the warrior had done. She made what should have been a serious and honorable moment and turned it into a joke. Even though Antony loves Cleopatra his rational side takes over when he decides to marry Octavia in order to show his loyalty to Rome. He knows that his duty is to Rome and it is where he is supposed to be and the people of Rome are not happy about all of the time he has been spending in Egypt. To fix this and mend their bond Antony agrees to marry Caesar s sister Octavia. This mend is shown when Caesar says that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Twelve Angry Men Character Analysis The way one person treats another is often a direct reflection of how they view themselves. People with poor self images are often quick to judge, demean, belittle, and rebuke others for their mistakes, shortcomings and flaws, simply out of spite or to protect their own reputation. This is true even in the 1957 MGM film Twelve Angry Men, where eleven of the twelve jurors attempt to convict a young man not based off of sound evidence, but off of personal prejudice and self righteousness alone. It was the leadership of the eighth juror, however, that convinced the other jurors to set aside their personal biases to acquit the young man accused of killing his father. In the film, the eighth juror, Mr. Davis, analyzes the self images of the other eleven jurors and displays the core values of humility, patience and mercy in order to lead the group to the consensus that the accused is not guilty. The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines humility as the quality or state of being humble and freedom from pride or arrogance . Humility, simply put, is the opposite of prejudice. In the film, many of the jurors enter the room with preconceived notions, falsified beliefs and irrational ideas about the accused. Others enter the room unsure of their vote and to protect their pride, immediately side with the jurors who believe the young man is guilty. Examples of this include how several of the jurors stereotype the accused on the basis of race and how the third juror in particular forms a bias against the young man simply because of his age and the fact that the young man reminds him of his son. Mr. Davis, however, takes another stance. In the book The Achievement Habit: Stop Wishing, Start Doing and Take Command of Your Life, Dr. Bernard Roth states that true mindfulness is seeing without judging (Roth 205). Mr. Davis perfectly models this quote as he approaches the issue with sympathy towards the young man in regard to his upbringing. On an analytical level, the screenplay convincingly moves the audience to side with Mr. Davis through the use of honest dialogue that allows viewers to put their trust in what Mr. Davis says. The validity of Mr. Davis claims also stems from the profile of his character crafted by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Old Earth, Or Progressive Creationism Old earth, or progressive creationism shares similarities with theistic evolution in that it places the age of the earth at 4 5 billion years ago and the universe at 10 20 billion years ago. However, they are not satisfied with the claim that God guided evolution brought the world into existence, eventually arriving at the world we live in today. Robert C. Newman, an astrophysicist and New Testament professor acknowledges that it would be possible for God to use evolution as a creation tool, just as it is possible that God created solely through supernatural means. However, he thinks that there are too many unanswered questions left for both positions. It is from this conviction that Newman places himself in the progressive creationist camp. This view is named such because it sees creation as occurring in a progression with various levels which built upon one another, using a combination of supernatural intervention and providential guidance to harmonize the histories found in both the biblical account of Genesis and the scientific account we find in nature. Newman is quick to point out that there are many variations of the old earth creationist position. Of these, however, he finds three main varieties, which differ primarily in their views on the nature of the days of the creation week. These three categories are: (1) The day age view. As implied by the title, this view considers the days to be chronological, but not 24 hour periods. Rather, they are long spans of time, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
