Theme In O. Henry s The Gift Of The Magi
Theme in The Gift of the Magi Of all who give and receive gifts, such as they are the wisest.
(Henry 108). This is one of the quotes from O. Henry s short story, The Gift of the Magi. The
Gift of the Magi, by O. Henry, is short about two adults making a sacrifice for one another. The
Gift of the Magi, by O. Henry, is about sacrificing something for someone else which is revealed
by the author s irony, descriptive language, and dialogue. In this story, The Giftof the Magi, the
author uses different situations throughout the story to show irony. For there lay the combs the
set of combs, side and back, that Della had worshipped for long in a Broadway window. (108). In
these words, the author is describing what Della had wanted for a very long time, but no longer
has her long hair. This represents irony because Della sold her hair to buy the watch chain for
Jim and now he no longer has the watch and Della is left with eighty one cents. The story also
states, I sold the watch to get the money to buy your combs. And now suppose you put the chops
on. (108). Briefly, the author shows that Jim has given up his most valuable possession for
someone he loved. This shows irony because now Della has no hair for the combs and Jim has no
watch for his new watch chain. They are both left with two useless items. According to the author,
the text also says, And here i have lamely related to you the uneventful chronicle of two foolish
children in a flat who most unwisely sacrificed for each other the greatest treasures of their house.
(108). In this quote, the author is directly stating how irony is used in the story. This is showing
how the two people sacrificed something for each other but ended up both items being useless
because they gave up the things the items were useful to. Given these points, the author uses irony
to demonstrate problems throughout the story in different situations.
During the story the author also uses descriptive language to show some of the events and main
issues throughout the story. According to the text, Will you buy my hair? asked Della. I buy hair,
said Madame. Take yer hat off and let s have a sight at the looks of it. Down rippled the brown
cascade. Twenty dollars, said

Essay about Ford Motor Company
I. Executive Summary The Ford Motor Company has been facing a steady decline in market
share for approximately the past twelve years. This decline is largely attributable to their
reputation for building poor quality vehicles that break down easily, and rising gas prices
reducing demand for large trucks and SUVs, which is Ford s main source of sales. Ford has
already taken measures in response to this slump by introducing new car models such as the
Fusion, as well as attempting to make their mark in the new crossoverSUV market with the Ford
Edge. However, many would argue that this is just too little, too late. While the Edge does lack
certain qualities with respect to its competitors, it also comes with a more affordable price... Show

Internal Analysis
Strengths
Ford has been in business now for over a century, giving them plenty of experience. When it
comes to the Edge, the replacement parts for the vehicle are relatively inexpensive. They are
much less expensive in comparison to its competitors. This is true for Ford in general as well.
This is a major contributing factor when individuals go to buy a vehicle because even if a car is
slightly less likely to break down than the Edge, but it has more expensive replacement parts, the
individual may be inclined to take their chances since even if it does break down, the financial
consequence isn t a severe one. The Edge s purchase price is also less than comparable
crossovers, which is a definite strength to Ford. Another strength that was somewhat
unanticipated is the fact that early on the Edge s sales exceeded expectations. It was said, The
sales levels, really coming from having no brand recognition, are kind of in the same sandbox as
three really great products that have established themselves over the course of several years... I
don t know if I thought we could get there that soon. While they still aren t on par with the other
companies who have been manufacturing crossovers for a great deal longer, they re still off to a
strong start.
Weaknesses
One weakness that Ford has with the Edge is that

The Folly of Fools
The Logic of Deceit and Self Deception in Human Life
Our daily life is effortlessly painted by our ignorance and own deceit and self deception. Our most
prized possession, language, not only strengthens our ability to lie, but also greatly extends it scope.
According to the book The Folly of Fools The Logic of Deceit and Self Deception in Human Life,
written by Robert Trivers, we as humans lie to ourselves to better lie to others. In this book, deceit
and self deception are analyzed from different perspectives of life and different perspectives
scientifically. The main topics discussed are the evolutionary logic of self deception,
neurophysiology and levels of imposed self deception, the psychology of self deception, and self
deception and the structure of social sciences. In the text to follow, I will discuss each category in
detail in hopes to better understand why as humans we are deceitful not only to others, but also to
ourselves as well. To begin with, I will layout a foundation to further understand deceit and self
deception by looking at the evolutionary logic of self deception. We can start by discussing the idea
of natural selection. Natural selection refers the notion that certain individuals leave behind more
offspring than others; therefore genetic traits of the reproductively successful tend to become more
common over time. This is relevant because

What Led to the Decline of Indentured Servitude and the...
The decline of indentured servitude and the rise of chattel slavery were caused by economic
factors of the English settlers in the late 17th century. Colonists continually tried to allure laborers
to the colony. The head right system was to give the indentured servant a method of becoming
independent after a number of years of service. Colonists chiefly relied on Indentured Servitude,
in order to facilitate their need for labor. The decreasing population combined with a need for a
labor force, led colonists to believe that African slaves were the most efficient way to acquire a
labor force that would satisfy their needs.
Before the 1680 s, indentured servitude was the primary source of labor in the newly developed
colonies. There ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though Bacon died before anything could happen, the threat of such a biracial alliance
challenging the power of the master class prompted the colony s elite to switch to an enslaved

colonies. By the 1700 s, slavery was deep rooted in the colonies government.#
Planters had an abundance of land and a shortage of labor.

What Is The Turning Point Of 12 Angry Men
Twelve Angry Men is a very good movie and had a lot of ups and downs throughout the movie.
Yes, I think it took a great deal of courage for Fonda to vote not guilty. First, everyone thought he
was guilty without discussing and just jumping to a conclusion. Fonda actually wanted to give
some thought to it and discuss why the kid deserved a chance and why he might not be guilty.
Also, the mood in the room was very dark when all the jurors got into the room one guy just
wanted to go the baseball game, so he just wanted the kid to be guilty so he could get out of
there. Plus the fan wouldn t work at first so all of them were hot and were ready to get out of
there, so I think they just wanted the kid to be guilty.

Second was the chair seen where he acted like he was in bed and walked the steps off that the
old man had claimed he had heard everything that had happened. This one got some more jurors
to vote not guilty because Fonda said there was no way he could have made it and the time he

Character Analysis Of Angie In The Gift Of Cochise
The traditional western hero has so closely synonymized itself with the image of the rugged, horse
riding, cowboy hat wearing, gun shooting white man, that a fearful wife and mother appears
entirely antithetical to the very notion of the frontier hero. Yet, Louie L amour adeptly crafts his
western hero out of the very same aforementioned traits through his character Angie in The Gift of
Cochise. Angie s logical, pragmatic, and calculated actions, because of her role as a wife and mother
, allow her to successfully advance westward and settle in Apache territory as the rightful western
hero of the story. While various male characters attempt dutifully to satisfy Turner s hypothesis of
advancement westward, their reckless approach to the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His descriptions as tough and brawling emphasize the resilience associated with the traditional
western hero. However, his lack of defined purpose in continuing his pursuit westward causes him
to fall short of truly encapsulating the western hero. Angie Lowe, in contrast, diverges from her
father s credulous justification for moving west, by choosing to move for the particular reason of
helping her husband, settling when she sees a territory satisfactory for her family. Her fulfillment
of Turner s hypothesis centers around her duty as a wife to help Ed leave Santa Fe for a more
suitable home rather than the intangible and nebulous allure of the glorified west. L amour
deliberately mentions that Angie, not Ed, chooses the property on West Dog Canyon, implying that
the move into the frontier is solely because Santa Fe [is] not good for Ed (L amour 58). More
importantly, unlike her father, who continues moving even after finding a wife and having a kid,
Angie stops once she finds the house with grass, water, and shelter from the wind, [that] Angie
with an Irish eye for the land saw would grow crops (L amour 58). As evidenced by Angie s choice
to move west, not because of glory or adventure, but for the practical advancement of her family,
Angie more successfully fills the role of the western hero. While her feminine take on the Turner
hypothesis, through the

Medial And Lateral Knee Bursitis With Rehab
Medial and Lateral Knee Bursitis With Rehab
Medial and lateral knee bursitis is inflammation of the fluid filled sacs on the inside or outside of
the knee. These sacs (bursae) act as shock absorbers, cushions, and gliders to help tendons move
smoothly over the knee. Tendons are strong bands of tissue that connect muscles to bones.
Medial bursitis is on the inside of the knee. A bursa is located beneath the tendon that connects
muscles of the upper leg to the inside of the shin bone. This condition is also called pes anserine
bursitis.
Lateral bursitis is on the outside of the knee. A bursa is located beneath a long tendon that connects
muscles of the buttock, hip, and upper leg to the outside of the shin bone. This condition is also
called iliotibial band friction syndrome.
CAUSES
This condition is caused by repeated rubbing of a tendon over a bursa that occurs with repetitive
activity. This friction causes fluid to build up inside the bursa. The bursa swells and becomes
painful.
RISK FACTORS
The following factors may make you more likely to develop this condition:
Doing athletic activities that involve repetitive squatting, running, cutting, and side to side
movements.
Overtraining, or starting a new athletic activity without gradually increasing your time and distance.
Participating in certain sports, such as:
в—‹ Basketball.
в—‹ Cross country running.
в—‹ Football.
в—‹ Rugby.
в—‹ Racquet sports.

Sam Cooke Meaning
A Change is Gonna to Come It s hard to listen to songs about slavery or the civil rights movement
without imaging the hardships and the unfairness that African American had to go through. Sam
Cooke did that, writing a song that grads your attention and later after Cooke s death would
come more popular. He had a vision for the African Americans, and was not afraid to sing about
what he felt was right. Sam Cooke s song A Change is Gonna to Come was a song of protest. For
the African Americans that were fighting for their rights. He wrote this song to support the civil
rights movements. Not just for his self, but for all blacks that was affected by the unfairness. He
wanted to capture the frustrations he had and he was not afraid of a challenge. Before the Civil
Rights Act of 1964, segregation in the U.S was mostly in the Southern states. The segregation was
supposed to be separate but equal. But that is not how it was. Blacks in the south were
discriminated against and the law did nothing to protect their rights as individuals. The civil rights
act of 1964, stated that all public places including public schools were desegregated. This meant
that employer may not deny a person employment because of their race, religion, or gender. You

Shadow Of The Galilean Book Report
Gerd Theissen taught at University of Bonn and the University of Copenhagen, but is now a
professor at the University of Heidelberg in Germany. His field of expertise is the Bible, more
specifically, Theology of New Testament. He has been researching and writing novels about the
New Testament and the life of Jesusfor over 30 years. It is evident that Theissen is able to write a
historical fiction novel that is well researched and accurately reflects the time period it is written
about. The historical fiction novel, The Shadow of the Galilean, follows the narrator Andreas, a
grain merchant from Sepphoris. His family has ties with Herod Antipas since they do business with
him. The books opens with Andreas being caught in the midst of a riot, which we later learn is

Lab Report #1
The Effect of О± Amylase Concentration on the Rate of Starch Hydrolysis in a Porcine Pancreas
Introduction:
Our body uses various different types of molecules that work together in order to keep us
functioning. One of these molecules is called amylase. Amylase is an enzyme that breaks up the
glucose chains in starch into maltose. Enzymes work to speed up a reaction by lowering the
activation energy needed for the reaction to occur. There are three different types of amylase: О±
amylase, ОІ amylase, and Оі amylase. О± Amylase is commonly found in saliva and pancreas of
many animals. In this experiment, we used porcine pancreatic О± amylase in order to find the
effect of different factors on the rate of the digestion of starch. The activity of О± Amylase can be
affected by the concentration of amylase, the pH of the environment surrounding amylase, and the
temperature that the reaction using amylase occurs in. This indicates that a change in any of these
factors can affect the enzyme, increasing or decreasing the rate that the reaction occurs: in the case
of amylase it indicates the rate that starch is digested, or maltose is created. All enzymes, О±
Amylase included, operate best in an optimal range of pH, temperature, and concentration; at these
optimal conditions the reaction will occur in the fastest amount of time (Ceska et al., 1969). In
particular, this report will focus on the effects of enzyme

How the Growth of Electronic Monitoring Has Changed...
The use of the internet for personal pursuits in the workplace has seen phenomenal growth over the
last quarter century. Along with this growth, employers and employees alike have used the internet
as a tool to increase profit, manage time and facilitate communications. However, such
technological advancement has its issues. The problem investigated is how the growth of electronic
monitoring has changed employee expectations of privacy in the workplace.
Should employees be able to use the internet for personal items while working?
Does the employee s ability to do so ultimately save the employer time and money?
The answer to whether employees should use the internet for personal pursuits while working is
both a yes and a no. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An employee observed on the sly potentially diminishes his perspective of his value and role to the
company. In contrast, a manager making rounds unannounced to observe employee behavior has an
opportunity to exchange meaningful feedback in real time. He can utilize management techniques
designed to limit attrition attributed to ignorance, lacking job training or simply the magic of
human interaction. (Phillips, 2008)
Does privacy apply to Law Enforcement? What about warrants for emails? Law enforcement of
internet usage ensures everyone plays according to the rules in the corporate sandbox. Therefore,
privacy rights may not be applicable. Some of these rules, if violated, may cause great harm to a
corporation, such as copyright infringement on intellectual property, and/or the viewing of
unacceptable images leading to sexual harassment suits. Internally at a corporation, it can mandate
oversight of usage to protect itself from such misuse and can state the practice thereof. For criminal
prosecution however, the burden of enforcement requires certain infringements of privacy rights but
not outside of the rule of law. The Electronics Communications Act of 1986 (ECPA) was the first
swing at limiting violations of privacy in internet usage. It prevented eavesdropping on digital files
as they moved through the internet chain. Warrants are

Sexual Motivation Paper
There are many reasons as to why humans have sex: desire, love, control, and procreation are some
of the more common explanations given by those who engage in sex. What happens in the human
brain and body to ignite motivation to have sex? First, we need to define what motivation is.
Becker (2009) described motivationas the internal drive that encourages engagement in behaviors,
including sexual behavior. Some behaviors such as eating and sexual behavior are intrinsically
motivating because the behavior itself is the reward (Becker, 2009). We will begin looking at
sexual motivation by first looking at the hormonal impact on attraction in men and women,
responses to sexual stimulus, and increases and decreases in sexual desire. Then we... Show more

Use Of Mobile Phones In School
Oh my gosh! I think I am about to die! I just found out that some schools do not allow students to
have cell phones in school. Modern cell phones are capable of much more than sending text
messages in class, now they are capable of calling someone in case of an emergency. If someone
is in need of help and no one has a cell phone, there is no way anyone could get them help, if
someone is bleeding a lot more than likely they would die if no one calls the emergency center.
There is an average of ninety four percent of students who goof around and play on their cell
phones during class or school hours, that is only six percent of students who could manage to
not play on their cell phones until the end of the day. If someone would like to see if they could
manage to get through the day without using a cell phone, they could try the no cell phone for a

their parents and they could not have their cell phone back until twenty four hours are up, if they
could get a day without their cell phone, then they should be proud of them because they have
proved they could get through the day without their phones, If you do not pass it then you are

the effectiveness of crime displacement in offending crimes because of the limited studies about it.
Displacement as defined by Guerette Bowers, it is the relocation of a crime from one place, time,

crime diffusion is the opposite of crime displacement (Guerette Bowers, 2009). For this reason,

What Is The Value Of Human Life
Tick Tock. I cannot be late. My boss will fire me if I am late. Why does the world place so much
value into the artificial construct of time? One of the reasons that time is so valuable is because
we have a limited amount of it. However, effort, commitment, and beauty also possess value. How
do we decide what actually has value? Certain aspects of reality, such as humanlife, intrinsically
possess value, and deserve protection regardless of their individual personalities.
Say a project is due in two weeks. There is plenty of time to relax. But what if the project is due
tomorrow? Suddenly, time seems more valuable. The world gives extraordinary value to the little
scraps of paper we call money. While the monetary value does not change, the personal value varies
greatly depending on the perspective. These examples explain how the perception of value differs
depending on quantity. Individuals living in poverty value their possessions and relationships more
than the rich. Human mortality highlights the value of living life with a purpose, whether that
purpose prolongs one s own life, or protects the lives of others.
Life Boat Ethics discusses the value of human life by presenting the argument that, if ten people
could fit in a lifeboat, then one should give up their spot for someone who deserves it more
(Hardin). However, the article does not specify what makes any person more worthy of salvation
than the others. If one bases value on the amount of time possessed, then surely the children are
the most important lives. However, the elderly have gained experience and wisdom, both of
which contain value. And what if the person given a spot by the sacrifice of another gives up his
spot as well? This means that the first person s sacrifice was meaningless. How does one determine
which life has more value in these circumstances?
Museums and art enthusiasts spend a lot of money on works of art. Why are certain paintings

The Impact Of Telecommunication Technology On Virtual...
Impact of Telecommunication Technologies on Virtual Universities
Shena D. Sterling
IX540: Research Methods for Education and Instructional Technology
Professor Kimberly Case
December 13, 2014
Introduction
Virtual Universities are on the rise and are a legitimate threat to replace the traditional University.
The most prominent reason for the current explosion in student enrollment in the virtual
universities, are advancements in telecommunications technologies. This paper presents a
methodology for quantitatively testing the relationship between growth in telecommunications
technologies, and parallel growth in student enrollment in Category 1, Title IV 2yr and 4yr degree
granting distance education programs recognized by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As advancements in telecommunications technologies go forward the costs associated with such
technologies have decreased while the benefits increased. New cutting edge technologies are always
priced at a premium when they are introduced into the market. As competitors enter the market the
cost of the technology gradually declines and demand rises following the law of demand.
In this project one of the major questions that must be answered is whether the value of low cost
distance education programs, supported by new and innovative telecommunication technologies, is
greater than the value of traditional educational programs costing much more. The researcher
proposes that the explosive growth in student enrollment in on line programs answer this question
affirmatively. The researcher will use quantitative analysis to support the null hypothesis identified
in the document.
Within the context of this quasi experimental study the researcher has carefully investigated the
role advancements in telecommunications technologies have played in the establishment and
growth of virtual universities in the U.S., the impact telecommunications technologies have had on
Title IV, Post Secondary 2yr and 4yr degree granting colleges and universities, how the explosive
growth in on line student enrollment has globally

Music from Italy and England
In the 16th century, only a few Europeans were able to read and write. However, by 1500, more
people became literate due to the increased number of printed material that was presented to them.
Italy and England were some of the places that were greatly influenced by the renaissance. Music
is one area that greatly improved during those years as the Italians took the Trecento Madrigal music
. While in England, they used the Elizabethan Madrigal form of music. These two traditions greatly
related to each other in many ways.
The madrigal was a secular music composition that was discovered during the Renaissance and
Baroque years (Adorno 19). They originated in Italy around 1520 and were thoroughly composed.
Jacopo da Bologna is an artist who was a Trecento composer and started a movement in Italy. Italy
was the homeland of roman antiquity (Fiero). Jacopo da Bologna was among the first composers
of this genre of music in Italy making him very popular. His music had sweet melodies that made it
very clean. Nevertheless, many more musicians were highly involved in this movement, and they
found themselves singing in Spain, Rome, Venice, Milan, and Florence. The movement helped the
native composers to change their older styles and incorporate the Trecento style of music.
On the other hand, England was using the Cappela Madrigal for its music. It was lighter in style,
unlike the Italian style. Alfonso Ferrabosco highly influenced the growth in England as he worked

Comparing Brutus And Cassius In Shakespeare s Julius Ceasar
In Shakespeare s Julius Ceasar , Brutus and Cassius are very important characters, sharing many
similarities and differences. Brutus is a more dominant and noble character, honest and naive.
Cassius is a more manipulative, perceptive character. They both take part in the more dramatic
scenes and are essential to the play itself. They differ in the way they perceive Antony as a threat to
the assassination plot, their dominance in personality, and their moral obligation. To begin with, an
important similarity of Cassius and Brutus is that they re both two of the most noble and honorable
people in Rome, and both end up in the going down similar paths throughout the story. They re both
conspirators that assassinated Caesar and in the end they both fought the battle against Antony and
Octavius, both Cassius and Brutus died the same way. However, despite them having had similar
roles and plots they have very different personalities.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

conspirators were condemned by the Romans as traitors and murderers instead of bringers of
justice; if Cassius had thought about it more before he killing Caesar then he wouldn t have been
condemned to death and defeated by Antony s army. Cassius also showed cunningness as he could

Rhetorical Analysis Of We Shall Overcome By Lyndon Baines...
The Rhetorical Analysis Of We Shall Overcome The speech We Shall Overcome delivered by
Lyndon Baines Johnson on 15 March 1965, Washington, D.C. The theme of the speech is to call
on that every American citizen must have an equal right to vote. He wanted to pass a bill to end
the situation that many states had been used to deny Negroes the right to vote. The purpose of
which is to persuade Members of Congress to pass the bill which came up by himself. At that
time, although the slavery system had been destroyed, Negroes also did not own equal right as
well as white people. The author Lyndon Baines Johnson was (August 27, 1908 January 22, 1973),
who was the 36th President of the United States from 1963 to 1969. Johnson designed the Great...

Human being are not cold blooded animal and nobody is definitely indifferent. Therefore,
authors always write down words to arouse readers enthusiasm or fervor gradually. Pathos work
as the same way, which let readers get moved by emotion weapon. We can find many pathos
devices in this well known speech. The real hero of this struggle is the American Negro. His
actions and protests, his courage to risk safety and even to risk his life, have awakened the
conscience of this nation. His demonstrations have been designed to call attention to injustice,
designed to provoke change, designed to stir reform. He has called upon us to make good the
promise of America. And who among us can say that we would have made the same progress
were it not for his persistent bravery, and his faith in American democracy. From these great
words, Johnson described the American Negro as a hero, who had awakened the conscience of
this nation. There is no doubt that many people were neutral in this case. However, after that
speech, after being persuaded by their president, they might turn to agree with their president.
Some of them might give up their prejudices to Negroes. They would recall many Negroes who
were used to live with them were also kind and gave their hands sometimes. Pathos work in that
way. Authors utilize pathos to tough readers and audiences, like what I have mentioned, everyone
has the milk of human kindness. Take text for example again, This great, rich, restless country can
offer opportunity and education and hope to all, all black and white, all North and South,
sharecropper and city dweller. These are the enemies: poverty, ignorance, disease. These impressed
words reminded all the people of that USA belonged to everyone. They should be unity to stop

John Scopes Controversy
The summer of 1925 was a controversial period of time in the town of Dayton, Tennessee. There
had been a law that banned evolution taught in classrooms; the American Civil Liberties Union
challenged said law with the help of John Scopes, who was a teacher that taught the theory of
evolution in his classroom. In the trial, Clarence Darrowrepresented Scopes and faced off William
Jennings Bryan, who was against evolution being taught and a well known criminal defense
lawyer. In the first section of the book, before the trial, the foundation for the controversy was
arranged. Charles Dawson discovered bones and other fragments of a skull that were known as the
Piltdown skull. The Piltdown skull was first thought to have been from a normal ape, but later
evidence collected from Arthur Smith Woodward said otherwise. The skull was said to have been

Scopes fine and conviction were overturned later on a technicality, but the debate between the anti
evolutionists and modernists continued over evolution and religion in the classroom subject matter
long after the trial was over. Many books were written about the Scopes Trials that described what
happened such as Only Yesterday: An Informal History of the Nineteen Twenties, and Inherit the
Wind. The author of Only Yesterday, Fredrick Lewis Allen, described the trials very simply as a
loss for fundamentalism and many others followed in his description. Political and public views
from this case also changed, which led toward the idea of creation to be taught in schools rather
than so much emphasis on evolution being banned. This led to religious practices in schools began
to diminish as the years went on as well. As more arguments arose and settled, the law that banned
evolution in school was finally repealed in

Similarities Between Frankenstein And Rappaccini s Daughter
Nature and Nurture in Frankenstein and Rappaccini s Daughter
One of the most popular disputes in the history of philosophy regards whether nurture of a human
being plays a more important role in the formation of its character than the genetic heritage that it
bears. As a natural result, the dispute echoes in many literary works, not always directly, but
sometimes taking the form of a pretext or a motif in a larger context. Such examples are
Frankenstein by Marry Shelley and Rappaccini s Daughter , by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Their authors
relate the evolution of at least two characters, the monster and Beatrice, throughout both writings,
with the way those characters were nurtured. Both authors use innocence as a common ... Show

Certain rumors spread into town characterize her as a highly educated young woman. We find
evidence in that sense from Doctor Baglioni, another character in the story: Rappaccini is said to
have instructed her deeply in his science, and that, young and beautiful as fame reports her, she
is already qualified to fill a professor s chair (Hawthorne 878). But the truth is that, as she
confesses later in the story, she knows nothing about the science of botany that her father is
involved in; actually, she is only familiar with the flower s hues and perfumes ( Hawthorne 883).
She practically knows as much as a child of small age would; her education also lacks any form
of interaction experience with the society. Hawthorne presents her father, Doctor Rappaccini, as
her only companion of life. Her reason for isolation is related to her father s overprotective
attitude towards his only child. Rappaccini raises her in the neighborhood of poisonous flowers,
making her immune to them, but also transforming her into a source of poison. Beatrice is aware
of the poison that she exudes; thus she becomes indirectly isolated from the rest of the world by
her father. The deadly attribute Beatrice possesses places a social safeguarding wall around her.
The similarity between the monster s isolation and Beatrice s isolation is thus obvious. The two
parents, Victor and Rappaccini, highly competent

The basic unit of analysis for making merchandise management decisions is the merchandise
category (Levy Weitz, 2009), these are groups of items and brands that consumers see as direct
substitutes for one another, and for example different brands of milk cheese make up the dairy
category. These categories can be managed either by category or by brand; both of these approaches
have advantages and disadvantages. The advantages of category management are that management
can ensure that the category containing the best combinations of vendors or brands and sizes.
Store layout with regard to merchandise has a direct impact on the positioning of the store. The
retailer needs to decide how much store space to allocate towards a specific product category and
how much space must be allocated towards isles and advertising space. This is especially
important with regard to seasonal products such as Easter Eggs or other Easter merchandise. The
differences in the placement of these seasonal items between the different Spar shops will be used
to determine the difference in sales of those items.
3.1INVENTORY
Increasing inventory turnover is a cornerstone to improving the sales volume and therefore the net
revenue of the retailer. Inventory turnover is especially important for perishable goods such as
fruit and vegetables. This is because these types of merchandise quickly turn bad and get damaged
after being handled for too long or from being under the

Motifs are described as a recurring theme that has symbolic significance. Motifs are a powerful
embellishment and provide movies with a traceable pattern or a significant meeting to look for
later on. Finally, motifs capture and emphasize the most important part of a movie or story. The
motifs in Big Fish consisted of the ring that Edward used to catch the fish, the Witch s eye that
showed Edward his death, the fish that Edward caught the day his son was born and the giant.
An example of the Giants significance in the movie Big Fish was when he stated, You think this
town is too small for you? This town is too small for my ambition. The giant in the small city of
Ashton represents the big fish in a little pond analogy and Edward Bloom s ambition. The
witches eye that showed Edward death was a fantastic motif because it portrayed his fearlessness.
The eye is the symbol for himself, and he realizes when he looks into the eye, death doesn t scare

feeding, the child learns that pleasure can be obtained from the very sensitive organ that is the

Analysis Of They Live
They Live: Timely or Timeless? John Carpenter s 1988 film They Live is cult classic steeped in
1980 s America milieu. The film follows protagonist John Nada, played by professional wrestler
Roddy Piper. Nada, a hobo of sorts, rides the rails westward in search of work. The first scene of
the film finds our vagabond main character disembarking from his heavily discounted travel
arrangements, and strutting nonchalantly by foot into a nearby metropolis. Nada travels light.
All he has to his name is his pack, and a few changes of clothes, which never stray from, fitted
jeans, flannel shirt, and work boots, which tell you a lot about his line of work. Moreover, if his
attire is not a dead giveaway as to his chosen profession then his stature is. Nada is built like a
truck from years of labor intensive work with his hands, mostly in construction. He is the
embodiment of the working poor with an eighties macho twist. That twist being, on top of being
a physical specimen, he is also armed with catchy one liners, sports breathtaking hair that flirts
on mullet dom, and is an expert on every firearm he comes across. They Live does not stop there;
it gives us even more of what we have come to love about eighties action flicks. Is there a scene
where the main character finds a reason to take off his shirt to show us how ripped he is? Yes. Is
there a female love interest who uses too much hair spray? Yes again. Does the film have
countless gunfights where the good guy is shot at a thousand times and is never hit by a single
bullet? Furthermore, does one of those firefights end with a henchman being shot followed by
him awkwardly falling off the roof he was perched upon? It is the eighties, you bet your sweet
neon jacket it does. So, if They Live is flooded with dated camp then why is it so beloved? Well
besides being a film that highlights eighties style and tropes, it also puts a magnifying glass on
eighties America as a society as well. The cultural climate of the United States in the eighties can be
attributed to many factors, but a majority of the responsibility usually falls on one person in this
country the president. The president for the majority of the eighties was Ronald Reagan, the most

Logan Language Development
12.Assessing and Nurturing Cognitive Ability
Meanwhile, due to Logan s age I was able to question his performance in school and how it was
relative to his peers. Logan continued to explain, I was nervous and do not talk much. As I
continued to investigate I asked about how well he performs in school. He replied with, it is hard
for me to study and focus, due to his anxiety and stress (R, Logan). Afterward, I asked, compared
to his peers, he told me he feels left out because other students finish homework or tests before me.
He also stated, I am always the last one (R, Logan). These statements concerned me. Although, a
bright child, I understood Logan is feeling anxiety and feeling alone, something that is clearly
affecting the teen.

He uses slang and occasionally uses profanity. Logan does not have a speech impediment. Yes I
would say Logan s vocabulary is relative to his peers. Words that he uses are ma instead of mom
or mother, Ugh which is a form of expressing disappointment. Huh, this is an informal way of
saying what (R, Logan). Formal code of speech is defined as using formal language around and
greeting, like honorifics. Honorifics include using terms like Mr., Mrs., Professor, and Dr.
(Byerwalter). Informal code of speech is using language like, dude and brother, or homie
(Byerwalter). I have found that Logan uses informal code when he is joking around with his
friends. However, when Logan is around his grandmother he uses formal

Since Confederation, Relations Between The Canadian Federal
Since Confederation, relations between the Canadian federal government and the native people of
Canada have been strained due to the former existence of the Indian Residential School System.
Following the passage of the Indian Act, the first residential schools were established across Canada
to assimilate indigenous children into Canadian society through the forced adoption of European
customs at the expense of their own culture. During its tenure, approximately 150,000 indigenous
children were separated from their communities and families, and forcibly enrolled into residential
schools where many would be subjected to physical, and psychological abuses. Despite its
malicious practices and objective, the residential school system... Show more content on

The articles of these treaties were often detrimental to the native people who partook since the
compensation provided for their lands was inadequate, often leaving them dispossessed of
traditional territories and dependent on a prejudiced federal government s aid. Consequently,
many aboriginal people were relocated to remote reserves where, despite being granted limited
self government, essential services were scarce and living conditions were deplorable. It was on
the reserves that many residential schools were built since the provision of education was a
contingency specified by the natives in exchange for their lands. Recognizing its historically unfair
payment for native lands and its failure to adequately deliver on the clauses outlined by the natives
in the treaties, such as the supply of quality education, the federal government has negotiated
twenty six comprehensive land claims since 1973. These new treaties have restored native
ownership to over 600,000 km of lost lands, transferred capital exceeding $3.2 billion, and have
upheld native ways of life including the right to self government.
In addition to its recent negotiations regarding comprehensive land claim arrangements, the federal
government of Canada has made efforts to improve its financial aid for indigenous peoples. The
Constitution Act of 1867 stated that aboriginal affairs were to be placed under federal control thus
obliging the federal government to

Communism In Joseph Stalin s Piano Sonatas
Communism is a way of governing where the government is in control of everything and
everyone. For the lives of everyone in the country that is Communist will forever be changed. This
paper is written from not only from a place of informed research but from a family who has lived,
suffered and been forever changed by a Communist government. Vladimir Leninestablished the
Communist Party of the Soviet Unionin 1912. In 1924 Joseph Stalin took reign, which is the time
period this paper will be focusing on. Communismin the Soviet Union finally came to an end in

3 Op. 28 was finished in 1917, the same year that the Russian Revolution began. In order to avoid
the violence, he went on tour as a concert pianist traveling throughout England and then making his
way to America. This piano solo was written while traveling to America. This one movement sonata
is full of bold, passionate dissonances and frequent mood changes, which the eight sub movements
showcase. Sonata No. 3 is one of great passion and drama, evident in the two diverse themes of the
exposition. The first theme (m. 1 15), is powerful and has lots of energy, sounding almost like a
horse chase. There are constant triplets bounding between the hands and accents not always on the
strong beats, which demonstrate his Russian inspired rhythms. The second theme, (16 53) is a
sharp contrast with its lyrical and fleeting nature. Prokofiev, being a master melodist, creates unease
with an eight note, sixteenth rest, and sixteenth note motive that reappears throughout the piece.
This whole sonata is about juxtaposing melodies, dynamics, and rhythms all in turn creating
intensity and

Use Of Renewable Resources For Alternative Fuels
Current transportation is heavily dependent on fossil fuels such as oil, gas, and coal. Petroleum
based fuels such as gasoline and diesel fuel, the most commonly used fossil fuels, are causing
increasing global concern because petroleum is a finite resource. This means that as the amount of
available petroleum decreases over time, the need for alternative fuels will increase. This is an
important matter because it affects global energy security, food security, the environment, and
economies. With governments around the world attempting to cope with increasing greenhouse gas
emissions, the world is turning to cleaner, more efficient energy use and the use of renewable
resources to address air pollution, global warming, and climate change.... Show more content on

With the global population continuously increasing, the use of farmland and grains for the world s
food supply will be competing with the use of the same land for biofuel production, which may lead
to an increase in food prices around the world.
Global bioethanol and biodiesel production has significantly increased over the last 14 years. It
is possible that biofuels produced from crops using conventional agricultural methods will
increase the stresses on water supplies, water quality, and land use, compared to petroleum
fuels. There would be agricultural competition between food crops and energy crops for
resources such as land and water. Agricultural expansion due to increased prices of foods would
place further stress on water supplies due to increased irrigation. Population growth, climate
change, and natural disasters also place additional stress on water supplies, but these factors are
already at play and natural disasters may be unpredictable (Koh and Ghazoul, 2008). Increasing
biofuel production will affect the biogeophysical capabilities of soil due to changes in land use
and may affect the nitrogen cycle due to increased use of nitrogen fertilizer (Delucchi, 2010).
Recent research into using wood and grass for cellulosic ethanol production may be fruitful as
most of these crops can be grown on agriculturally degraded land

The 1997 Asian financial crisis was a disaster that obsessed much of Southeast Asian countries. The
financial crisis began in July 1997, and rose to worldwide economic meltdown due to financial
contagion. Thailand, Indonesia and South Korea were the most affected by the financial crisis.
Hong Kong, Malaysia, and the Philippines also had abundant negative effects by the financial
disaster. China, Singapore, and Vietnam were less affected, however, they also suffered from the
crisis, which leads the citizens lost their faith of the economy at that period.

The main facts that can affect supply and demand of foreign exchange have been discussed as
follow:
Firstly, a country s GDP growth reflects the country s economy to flourish. When the national
income increases, consumption ability also increases. In this situation, the country s central bank is
likely to raise interest rates, tightening the money supply, by which, the country s economic
performance is good enough to rising interest rates and will increase the competitive power of the
currency. On the other hand, if a country s GDP has a negative growth, the country s currency s
competitive power will reduce. Generally speaking, the high rate of economic growth would push
their currencies rise, while low economic growth rate will cause the currency exchange rate to fall.
Secondly, interest rates rise, can make the interest income increased, holding the currency to attract
investors to buy the currency, therefore, support for the currency is good; if interest rates fall,
holding the currency income will reduce, its appeal is diminished. Therefore, it can be said that
interest rates, currency is strong; interest rates fall, weak currency .
Additionally, durable goods orders when durable goods orders both fell more sharply, can reflect the
manufacturing industry is weak, weak manufacturing will increase in the unemployment rate,
economic performance turn pale, as against the country s

John Kinsey And The Sun Being Centered, Not The Earth
With new ideas comes great debate. Through all great ideas time is necessarily for those ideas to
be accepted for example, Aristotle. Aristotle and the sun being centered, not the earth. During
the 1950 s sex was being seen as taboo but in fact it is that of biological order. During Kinsey
experiments and throughout the film we can see that sex was depicted as a more improper
against common beliefs and practices. As well as, not giving much effort however it can be
justified that Kinsey observations led to the activists of 70s and the generation of the baby
boomers. Kinsey s rise was slow and steady. Mostly due to his diligent work on a topic that
almost seemed forbidden to talk about at the time. A concept that was once attributed for just
married couples. Many people at the time believed that sex was only for wedded couples,
leaving no room for objection. People of the time scoffed at ideas such as premarital sex,
homosexuality and other sexuality that appeared peculiar. Kinsey changed American culture and
a created a media frenzy when he released his first work, Sexual Behavior in the Human Male.
Which he then went on several interviews, discussions and panels to discuss sex. Kinsey was a
Harvard educated zoologist who enjoyed studying gull wasps it was not until he met his spunky
yet witty wife, Clara Mac McMillen that he became interested in the idea of sex. While teaching
and experimenting he realized that there was science evidence behind sex and behavior. When

Justness Of Corporal Punishment
Since the ancient human times, corporal punishment has been one of the most popular methods
parents have used on enforcing their tutelage onto their children. Corporal punishment is defined as
the physical punishment that parents use on their children to enforce rules. The act is seen as
something of the past in 48 countries around the world, but for Canada. This is because they still
have not resolved it in their legal systems, for Canada this law being the infamous Section 43. Even
though it was implemented for the protection of parents and teachers from prosecution because of
minor disciplining, it really is an excuse for violence against children. In this generation, the
justness and effectiveness of corporal punishmenthave come into question, which is what this
writing piece aims to further delve into.
While anthropology may not be the most obvious study connected to corporal punishment, the two
topics are more related than most people think. As humans, we have a sense of morals and values,
and the understanding of our culture s changes is vital to understanding our shift in values. From an
anthropological point of view, corporal punishment would be focused on what caused humanity s
shift in values when it came to the justness of corporal punishment? . Based on the evidence, the
answer to this would be if humanity has a recent change in values when it comes to corporal
punishment, then it is because of the recent boost of awareness different cultures have gained in

Illustratte Technique and How It Relates to Performance Essay
According to the Dictionary of Sport Science, 1992 technique is best defined as a specific sequence
of movements or parts of movement in solving movement tasks in sports situations . Bober, 1981
suggested that using kinematic and temporal variables is the best way to illustrate technique. Most
reports reviewing technique reported the use temporal occurrence of linear and angular
displacements and velocity and their amplitude. Other implements are available for quantifying
biomechanical movement such as electromyography, plantar pressure and kinetic analysis.

This will help to describe how the foot and the footwear interact. In soles will be places into both
shod (shoe) conditions and participants will be asked to run as normal wearing the soles.
There is a debate among scientists as to whether barefoot or shod conditions are more beneficial to
a runner. Yan, et al, 2012 carried out a systematic review comparing the effects barefoot and shod
conditions, their aim was to clarify the effects of shoes on the most generally used variables
associated with impact analysis of the lower limb. They concluded that there was insufficient
evidence to draw an overall conclusion as to the benefits of shoes as they found conflicting results
within the literature. Yan et al, suggested that greater attention to the standards of reporting
biomechanical analysis and use of high quality data collection methods will help advance this
п¬Ѓeld of research.
Running is an increasingly popular exercise both recreationally and professionally however like
all exercise it poses risks; with to 52 % of professional and recreational runners suffering with
muscular, skeletal and joint injuries (Van Mechelen, 1992). A great deal of research into shoe
design has been conducted specifically athletic shoes. More recently, scientists have considered the
idea of minimalist footwear leading to the development of Vibram Fivefingersand other minimalist
footwear. The lightweight shoe is supposed to mimic the experience of running barefoot while

  • 2. Theme In O. Henry s The Gift Of The Magi Theme in The Gift of the Magi Of all who give and receive gifts, such as they are the wisest. (Henry 108). This is one of the quotes from O. Henry s short story, The Gift of the Magi. The Gift of the Magi, by O. Henry, is short about two adults making a sacrifice for one another. The Gift of the Magi, by O. Henry, is about sacrificing something for someone else which is revealed by the author s irony, descriptive language, and dialogue. In this story, The Giftof the Magi, the author uses different situations throughout the story to show irony. For there lay the combs the set of combs, side and back, that Della had worshipped for long in a Broadway window. (108). In these words, the author is describing what Della had wanted for a very long time, but no longer has her long hair. This represents irony because Della sold her hair to buy the watch chain for Jim and now he no longer has the watch and Della is left with eighty one cents. The story also states, I sold the watch to get the money to buy your combs. And now suppose you put the chops on. (108). Briefly, the author shows that Jim has given up his most valuable possession for someone he loved. This shows irony because now Della has no hair for the combs and Jim has no watch for his new watch chain. They are both left with two useless items. According to the author, the text also says, And here i have lamely related to you the uneventful chronicle of two foolish children in a flat who most unwisely sacrificed for each other the greatest treasures of their house. (108). In this quote, the author is directly stating how irony is used in the story. This is showing how the two people sacrificed something for each other but ended up both items being useless because they gave up the things the items were useful to. Given these points, the author uses irony to demonstrate problems throughout the story in different situations. During the story the author also uses descriptive language to show some of the events and main issues throughout the story. According to the text, Will you buy my hair? asked Della. I buy hair, said Madame. Take yer hat off and let s have a sight at the looks of it. Down rippled the brown cascade. Twenty dollars, said ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Essay about Ford Motor Company I. Executive Summary The Ford Motor Company has been facing a steady decline in market share for approximately the past twelve years. This decline is largely attributable to their reputation for building poor quality vehicles that break down easily, and rising gas prices reducing demand for large trucks and SUVs, which is Ford s main source of sales. Ford has already taken measures in response to this slump by introducing new car models such as the Fusion, as well as attempting to make their mark in the new crossoverSUV market with the Ford Edge. However, many would argue that this is just too little, too late. While the Edge does lack certain qualities with respect to its competitors, it also comes with a more affordable price... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Internal Analysis Strengths Ford has been in business now for over a century, giving them plenty of experience. When it comes to the Edge, the replacement parts for the vehicle are relatively inexpensive. They are much less expensive in comparison to its competitors. This is true for Ford in general as well. This is a major contributing factor when individuals go to buy a vehicle because even if a car is slightly less likely to break down than the Edge, but it has more expensive replacement parts, the individual may be inclined to take their chances since even if it does break down, the financial consequence isn t a severe one. The Edge s purchase price is also less than comparable crossovers, which is a definite strength to Ford. Another strength that was somewhat unanticipated is the fact that early on the Edge s sales exceeded expectations. It was said, The sales levels, really coming from having no brand recognition, are kind of in the same sandbox as three really great products that have established themselves over the course of several years... I don t know if I thought we could get there that soon. While they still aren t on par with the other companies who have been manufacturing crossovers for a great deal longer, they re still off to a strong start. The Folly Of Fools By Robert Trivers Hannah Phearsdorf MBA 639 Behavioral Finance Book Report 1 October 1, 2016 The Folly of Fools The Logic of Deceit and Self Deception in Human Life Our daily life is effortlessly painted by our ignorance and own deceit and self deception. Our most prized possession, language, not only strengthens our ability to lie, but also greatly extends it scope. According to the book The Folly of Fools The Logic of Deceit and Self Deception in Human Life, written by Robert Trivers, we as humans lie to ourselves to better lie to others. In this book, deceit and self deception are analyzed from different perspectives of life and different perspectives scientifically. The main topics discussed are the evolutionary logic of self deception, neurophysiology and levels of imposed self deception, the psychology of self deception, and self deception and the structure of social sciences. In the text to follow, I will discuss each category in detail in hopes to better understand why as humans we are deceitful not only to others, but also to ourselves as well. To begin with, I will layout a foundation to further understand deceit and self deception by looking at the evolutionary logic of self deception. We can start by discussing the idea of natural selection. Natural selection refers the notion that certain individuals leave behind more offspring than others; therefore genetic traits of the reproductively successful tend to become more common over time. This is relevant because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. What Led to the Decline of Indentured Servitude and the... The decline of indentured servitude and the rise of chattel slavery were caused by economic factors of the English settlers in the late 17th century. Colonists continually tried to allure laborers to the colony. The head right system was to give the indentured servant a method of becoming independent after a number of years of service. Colonists chiefly relied on Indentured Servitude, in order to facilitate their need for labor. The decreasing population combined with a need for a labor force, led colonists to believe that African slaves were the most efficient way to acquire a labor force that would satisfy their needs. Character Analysis Of Angie In The Gift Of Cochise The traditional western hero has so closely synonymized itself with the image of the rugged, horse riding, cowboy hat wearing, gun shooting white man, that a fearful wife and mother appears entirely antithetical to the very notion of the frontier hero. Yet, Louie L amour adeptly crafts his western hero out of the very same aforementioned traits through his character Angie in The Gift of Cochise. His descriptions as tough and brawling emphasize the resilience associated with the traditional western hero. However, his lack of defined purpose in continuing his pursuit westward causes him to fall short of truly encapsulating the western hero. Angie Lowe, in contrast, diverges from her father s credulous justification for moving west, by choosing to move for the particular reason of helping her husband, settling when she sees a territory satisfactory for her family. Her fulfillment of Turner s hypothesis centers around her duty as a wife to help Ed leave Santa Fe for a more suitable home rather than the intangible and nebulous allure of the glorified west. L amour deliberately mentions that Angie, not Ed, chooses the property on West Dog Canyon, implying that the move into the frontier is solely because Santa Fe [is] not good for Ed (L amour 58). More importantly, unlike her father, who continues moving even after finding a wife and having a kid, Angie stops once she finds the house with grass, water, and shelter from the wind, [that] Angie with an Irish eye for the land saw would grow crops (L amour 58). Sam Cooke did that, writing a song that grads your attention and later after Cooke s death would come more popular. He had a vision for the African Americans, and was not afraid to sing about what he felt was right. Sam Cooke s song A Change is Gonna to Come was a song of protest. For the African Americans that were fighting for their rights. He wrote this song to support the civil rights movements. Not just for his self, but for all blacks that was affected by the unfairness. He wanted to capture the frustrations he had and he was not afraid of a challenge. Before the Civil Rights Act of 1964, segregation in the U.S was mostly in the Southern states. The segregation was supposed to be separate but equal. But that is not how it was. Blacks in the south were discriminated against and the law did nothing to protect their rights as individuals. • 15. The Effect Of Enzyme Concentration On The Rate Of Starch... Monica Saripella Beibei Xin: Thurs @ 5 2/19/14 Lab Report #1 The Effect of О± Amylase Concentration on the Rate of Starch Hydrolysis in a Porcine Pancreas Introduction: Our body uses various different types of molecules that work together in order to keep us functioning. One of these molecules is called amylase. Amylase is an enzyme that breaks up the glucose chains in starch into maltose. Enzymes work to speed up a reaction by lowering the activation energy needed for the reaction to occur. There are three different types of amylase: О± amylase, ОІ amylase, and Оі amylase. О± Amylase is commonly found in saliva and pancreas of many animals. In this experiment, we used porcine pancreatic О± amylase in order to find the effect of different factors on the rate of the digestion of starch. The activity of О± Amylase can be affected by the concentration of amylase, the pH of the environment surrounding amylase, and the temperature that the reaction using amylase occurs in. This indicates that a change in any of these factors can affect the enzyme, increasing or decreasing the rate that the reaction occurs: in the case of amylase it indicates the rate that starch is digested, or maltose is created. All enzymes, О± Amylase included, operate best in an optimal range of pH, temperature, and concentration; at these optimal conditions the reaction will occur in the fastest amount of time (Ceska et al., 1969). In particular, this report will focus on the effects of enzyme ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Along with this growth, employers and employees alike have used the internet as a tool to increase profit, manage time and facilitate communications. However, such technological advancement has its issues. The problem investigated is how the growth of electronic monitoring has changed employee expectations of privacy in the workplace. Should employees be able to use the internet for personal items while working? Does the employee s ability to do so ultimately save the employer time and money? The answer to whether employees should use the internet for personal pursuits while working is both a yes and a no. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In contrast, a manager making rounds unannounced to observe employee behavior has an opportunity to exchange meaningful feedback in real time. (Phillips, 2008) Does privacy apply to Law Enforcement? What about warrants for emails? Law enforcement of internet usage ensures everyone plays according to the rules in the corporate sandbox. Therefore, privacy rights may not be applicable. Some of these rules, if violated, may cause great harm to a corporation, such as copyright infringement on intellectual property, and/or the viewing of unacceptable images leading to sexual harassment suits. Internally at a corporation, it can mandate oversight of usage to protect itself from such misuse and can state the practice thereof. For criminal prosecution however, the burden of enforcement requires certain infringements of privacy rights but not outside of the rule of law. What happens in the human brain and body to ignite motivation to have sex? First, we need to define what motivation is. Becker (2009) described motivationas the internal drive that encourages engagement in behaviors, including sexual behavior. Some behaviors such as eating and sexual behavior are intrinsically motivating because the behavior itself is the reward (Becker, 2009). If someone is in need of help and no one has a cell phone, there is no way anyone could get them help, if someone is bleeding a lot more than likely they would die if no one calls the emergency center. There is an average of ninety four percent of students who goof around and play on their cell phones during class or school hours, that is only six percent of students who could manage to not play on their cell phones until the end of the day. We are often in too much of a hurry to stop to check on a friend in need. When we are in need of a lending hand, but have no one to turn to for whatever reason, we may become unhappy. It is a known fact that Sadness is contagious. For instance, a manager had a bad day and takes his anger out on a client. That client might go home and yells at his son. • 21. What Is The Value Of Human Life Tick Tock. I cannot be late. My boss will fire me if I am late. Why does the world place so much value into the artificial construct of time? One of the reasons that time is so valuable is because we have a limited amount of it. However, effort, commitment, and beauty also possess value. How do we decide what actually has value? Certain aspects of reality, such as humanlife, intrinsically possess value, and deserve protection regardless of their individual personalities. Say a project is due in two weeks. There is plenty of time to relax. But what if the project is due tomorrow? Suddenly, time seems more valuable. The world gives extraordinary value to the little scraps of paper we call money. While the monetary value does not change, the personal value varies greatly depending on the perspective. These examples explain how the perception of value differs depending on quantity. Individuals living in poverty value their possessions and relationships more than the rich. Human mortality highlights the value of living life with a purpose, whether that purpose prolongs one s own life, or protects the lives of others. Life Boat Ethics discusses the value of human life by presenting the argument that, if ten people could fit in a lifeboat, then one should give up their spot for someone who deserves it more (Hardin). However, the article does not specify what makes any person more worthy of salvation than the others. If one bases value on the amount of time possessed, then surely the children are the most important lives. However, the elderly have gained experience and wisdom, both of which contain value. And what if the person given a spot by the sacrifice of another gives up his spot as well? This means that the first person s sacrifice was meaningless. How does one determine which life has more value in these circumstances? Museums and art enthusiasts spend a lot of money on works of art. Why are certain paintings more valuable than others? There are not a limited amount of paintings. Perhaps it is impossible to truly calculate value, because the perception of value differs between individuals. A critic would value a beautiful piece of artwork more than an average piece, and would consequently spend more money or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sterling IX540: Research Methods for Education and Instructional Technology Professor Kimberly Case December 13, 2014 Introduction Virtual Universities are on the rise and are a legitimate threat to replace the traditional University. The most prominent reason for the current explosion in student enrollment in the virtual universities, are advancements in telecommunications technologies. In this project one of the major questions that must be answered is whether the value of low cost distance education programs, supported by new and innovative telecommunication technologies, is greater than the value of traditional educational programs costing much more. The researcher proposes that the explosive growth in student enrollment in on line programs answer this question affirmatively. The researcher will use quantitative analysis to support the null hypothesis identified in the document. Within the context of this quasi experimental study the researcher has carefully investigated the role advancements in telecommunications technologies have played in the establishment and growth of virtual universities in the U.S., the impact telecommunications technologies have had on Title IV, Post Secondary 2yr and 4yr degree granting colleges and universities, how the explosive growth in on line student enrollment has globally ... However, by 1500, more people became literate due to the increased number of printed material that was presented to them. Italy and England were some of the places that were greatly influenced by the renaissance. Music is one area that greatly improved during those years as the Italians took the Trecento Madrigal music . While in England, they used the Elizabethan Madrigal form of music. These two traditions greatly related to each other in many ways. The madrigal was a secular music composition that was discovered during the Renaissance and Baroque years (Adorno 19). They originated in Italy around 1520 and were thoroughly composed. Jacopo da Bologna is an artist who was a Trecento composer and started a movement in Italy. Italy was the homeland of roman antiquity (Fiero). Jacopo da Bologna was among the first composers of this genre of music in Italy making him very popular. His music had sweet melodies that made it very clean. Nevertheless, many more musicians were highly involved in this movement, and they found themselves singing in Spain, Rome, Venice, Milan, and Florence. The movement helped the native composers to change their older styles and incorporate the Trecento style of music. On the other hand, England was using the Cappela Madrigal for its music. It was lighter in style, unlike the Italian style. Alfonso Ferrabosco highly influenced the growth in England as he worked in the Queen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore, authors always write down words to arouse readers enthusiasm or fervor gradually. Pathos work as the same way, which let readers get moved by emotion weapon. We can find many pathos devices in this well known speech. The real hero of this struggle is the American Negro. His actions and protests, his courage to risk safety and even to risk his life, have awakened the conscience of this nation. His demonstrations have been designed to call attention to injustice, designed to provoke change, designed to stir reform. He has called upon us to make good the promise of America. And who among us can say that we would have made the same progress were it not for his persistent bravery, and his faith in American democracy. From these great words, Johnson described the American Negro as a hero, who had awakened the conscience of this nation. There is no doubt that many people were neutral in this case. However, after that speech, after being persuaded by their president, they might turn to agree with their president. Some of them might give up their prejudices to Negroes. They would recall many Negroes who were used to live with them were also kind and gave their hands sometimes. Pathos work in that way. As a natural result, the dispute echoes in many literary works, not always directly, but sometimes taking the form of a pretext or a motif in a larger context. We find evidence in that sense from Doctor Baglioni, another character in the story: Rappaccini is said to have instructed her deeply in his science, and that, young and beautiful as fame reports her, she is already qualified to fill a professor s chair (Hawthorne 878). But the truth is that, as she confesses later in the story, she knows nothing about the science of botany that her father is involved in; actually, she is only familiar with the flower s hues and perfumes ( Hawthorne 883). She practically knows as much as a child of small age would; her education also lacks any form of interaction experience with the society. Hawthorne presents her father, Doctor Rappaccini, as her only companion of life. Her reason for isolation is related to her father s overprotective attitude towards his only child. Rappaccini raises her in the neighborhood of poisonous flowers, making her immune to them, but also transforming her into a source of poison. Beatrice is aware of the poison that she exudes; thus she becomes indirectly isolated from the rest of the world by her father. The film follows protagonist John Nada, played by professional wrestler Roddy Piper. Nada, a hobo of sorts, rides the rails westward in search of work. The first scene of the film finds our vagabond main character disembarking from his heavily discounted travel arrangements, and strutting nonchalantly by foot into a nearby metropolis. Nada travels light. All he has to his name is his pack, and a few changes of clothes, which never stray from, fitted jeans, flannel shirt, and work boots, which tell you a lot about his line of work. Is there a scene where the main character finds a reason to take off his shirt to show us how ripped he is? Yes. Is there a female love interest who uses too much hair spray? Yes again. He replied with, it is hard for me to study and focus, due to his anxiety and stress (R, Logan). Afterward, I asked, compared to his peers, he told me he feels left out because other students finish homework or tests before me. He also stated, I am always the last one (R, Logan). Since Confederation, Relations Between The Canadian Federal Since Confederation, relations between the Canadian federal government and the native people of Canada have been strained due to the former existence of the Indian Residential School System. Following the passage of the Indian Act, the first residential schools were established across Canada to assimilate indigenous children into Canadian society through the forced adoption of European customs at the expense of their own culture. During its tenure, approximately 150,000 indigenous children were separated from their communities and families, and forcibly enrolled into residential schools where many would be subjected to physical, and psychological abuses. Despite its malicious practices and objective, the residential school system... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The articles of these treaties were often detrimental to the native people who partook since the compensation provided for their lands was inadequate, often leaving them dispossessed of traditional territories and dependent on a prejudiced federal government s aid. Consequently, many aboriginal people were relocated to remote reserves where, despite being granted limited self government, essential services were scarce and living conditions were deplorable. It was on the reserves that many residential schools were built since the provision of education was a contingency specified by the natives in exchange for their lands. Recognizing its historically unfair payment for native lands and its failure to adequately deliver on the clauses outlined by the natives in the treaties, such as the supply of quality education, the federal government has negotiated twenty six comprehensive land claims since 1973. These new treaties have restored native ownership to over 600,000 km of lost lands, transferred capital exceeding $3.2 billion, and have upheld native ways of life including the right to self government. In addition to its recent negotiations regarding comprehensive land claim arrangements, the federal government of Canada has made efforts to improve its financial aid for indigenous peoples. The Constitution Act of 1867 stated that aboriginal affairs were to be placed under federal control thus obliging the federal government to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In order to avoid the violence, he went on tour as a concert pianist traveling throughout England and then making his way to America. This piano solo was written while traveling to America. This one movement sonata is full of bold, passionate dissonances and frequent mood changes, which the eight sub movements showcase. Sonata No. 3 is one of great passion and drama, evident in the two diverse themes of the exposition. The first theme (m. 1 15), is powerful and has lots of energy, sounding almost like a horse chase. There are constant triplets bounding between the hands and accents not always on the strong beats, which demonstrate his Russian inspired rhythms. The second theme, (16 53) is a sharp contrast with its lyrical and fleeting nature. Prokofiev, being a master melodist, creates unease with an eight note, sixteenth rest, and sixteenth note motive that reappears throughout the piece. This whole sonata is about juxtaposing melodies, dynamics, and rhythms all in turn creating intensity and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Petroleum based fuels such as gasoline and diesel fuel, the most commonly used fossil fuels, are causing increasing global concern because petroleum is a finite resource. This means that as the amount of available petroleum decreases over time, the need for alternative fuels will increase. This is an important matter because it affects global energy security, food security, the environment, and economies. With governments around the world attempting to cope with increasing greenhouse gas emissions, the world is turning to cleaner, more efficient energy use and the use of renewable resources to address air pollution, global warming, and climate change.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the global population continuously increasing, the use of farmland and grains for the world s food supply will be competing with the use of the same land for biofuel production, which may lead to an increase in food prices around the world. Global bioethanol and biodiesel production has significantly increased over the last 14 years. It is possible that biofuels produced from crops using conventional agricultural methods will increase the stresses on water supplies, water quality, and land use, compared to petroleum fuels. There would be agricultural competition between food crops and energy crops for resources such as land and water. Agricultural expansion due to increased prices of foods would place further stress on water supplies due to increased irrigation. Population growth, climate change, and natural disasters also place additional stress on water supplies, but these factors are already at play and natural disasters may be unpredictable (Koh and Ghazoul, 2008). Increasing biofuel production will affect the biogeophysical capabilities of soil due to changes in land use and may affect the nitrogen cycle due to increased use of nitrogen fertilizer (Delucchi, 2010). Recent research into using wood and grass for cellulosic ethanol production may be fruitful as most of these crops can be grown on agriculturally degraded land ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The main facts that can affect supply and demand of foreign exchange have been discussed as follow: Firstly, a country s GDP growth reflects the country s economy to flourish. When the national income increases, consumption ability also increases. In this situation, the country s central bank is likely to raise interest rates, tightening the money supply, by which, the country s economic performance is good enough to rising interest rates and will increase the competitive power of the currency. On the other hand, if a country s GDP has a negative growth, the country s currency s competitive power will reduce. Generally speaking, the high rate of economic growth would push their currencies rise, while low economic growth rate will cause the currency exchange rate to fall. Secondly, interest rates rise, can make the interest income increased, holding the currency to attract investors to buy the currency, therefore, support for the currency is good; if interest rates fall, holding the currency income will reduce, its appeal is diminished. Therefore, it can be said that interest rates, currency is strong; interest rates fall, weak currency . • 47. John Kinsey And The Sun Being Centered, Not The Earth With new ideas comes great debate. Through all great ideas time is necessarily for those ideas to be accepted for example, Aristotle. Aristotle and the sun being centered, not the earth. During the 1950 s sex was being seen as taboo but in fact it is that of biological order. During Kinsey experiments and throughout the film we can see that sex was depicted as a more improper against common beliefs and practices. As well as, not giving much effort however it can be justified that Kinsey observations led to the activists of 70s and the generation of the baby boomers. Kinsey s rise was slow and steady. Mostly due to his diligent work on a topic that almost seemed forbidden to talk about at the time. A concept that was once attributed for just married couples. Many people at the time believed that sex was only for wedded couples, leaving no room for objection. People of the time scoffed at ideas such as premarital sex, homosexuality and other sexuality that appeared peculiar. Kinsey changed American culture and a created a media frenzy when he released his first work, Sexual Behavior in the Human Male. Which he then went on several interviews, discussions and panels to discuss sex. Kinsey was a Harvard educated zoologist who enjoyed studying gull wasps it was not until he met his spunky yet witty wife, Clara Mac McMillen that he became interested in the idea of sex. While teaching and experimenting he realized that there was science evidence behind sex and behavior. When ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Justness Of Corporal Punishment Since the ancient human times, corporal punishment has been one of the most popular methods parents have used on enforcing their tutelage onto their children. Corporal punishment is defined as the physical punishment that parents use on their children to enforce rules. The act is seen as something of the past in 48 countries around the world, but for Canada. This is because they still have not resolved it in their legal systems, for Canada this law being the infamous Section 43. Even though it was implemented for the protection of parents and teachers from prosecution because of minor disciplining, it really is an excuse for violence against children. In this generation, the justness and effectiveness of corporal punishmenthave come into question, which is what this writing piece aims to further delve into. While anthropology may not be the most obvious study connected to corporal punishment, the two topics are more related than most people think. As humans, we have a sense of morals and values, and the understanding of our culture s changes is vital to understanding our shift in values. From an anthropological point of view, corporal punishment would be focused on what caused humanity s shift in values when it came to the justness of corporal punishment? . Based on the evidence, the answer to this would be if humanity has a recent change in values when it comes to corporal punishment, then it is because of the recent boost of awareness different cultures have gained in ... Most reports reviewing technique reported the use temporal occurrence of linear and angular displacements and velocity and their amplitude.
