I often believe that Organizations who are looking to transform & Adopt Agile primarily do not give enough thought as to WHY they need to transform into AGILE and then start looking into HOW to achieve the goal. So i would like to take this subject and talk about how to help Organizations to first realize how to figure out 'WHY'.

Collaborative Agile Development in Virtual Reality by Talal Shaikh
he Application of agile software development process to engineering software projects has shown good progress over the years. However, in a globally connected world having an entire team working on developing the software from one location does not typically happen. Agile techniques and processes are successful when teams are co-located. This project tries to find a solution to this problem by using virtual reality to fill the gap between remote located teams and fast paced development environment. This provides an immersive feeling of being in office with colleagues even if the participants are not in same room physically. This can greatly improve the collaborative work.
A Virtual Reality (VR) environment is developed for the team members to interact in. We used Oculus DK2 as the headset and Leap Motion to interact within that world.
We have explored Implementation of pair programming. The VR application developed has a browser which can be interacted with VR controls. The browser syncs itself across all windows and users. When this feature of browser is used with cloud services, it helps to provide a screen sharing without actually sharing the screen. This application features a board where people can come and discuss meeting agenda. The participants in the meeting can walk to different virtual rooms. The participants can go to virtual outdoors from the virtual office. The application works with both VR headset and without VR headset.
This application was tested among few students to get the feedback. The programmers reported that this application could really improve communication.
Future
The project can be developed in different stages in future. The first step will be adding leap motion controls to move around in the virtual office. More browser controls will be moved to leap motion interactable buttons from gaze based interaction. In the future, the project will be developed to have multiple platforms such as android and iOS. The project must be updated frequently to use new and better VR devices and its controls.
Establishing an Agile Testing Culture
Many resources describe how to accelerate performance of your development organization through adoption of agile methodologies, but very few cover testing in a practical manner. And those that do generally focus on technical details, leaving out how to build an agile testing culture while facing numerous adoption challenges. Leigh Ishikawa describes how an organization needs to rethink testing in the agile world. He begins by taking a holistic look at how different groups combine in an agile testing culture. Then Leigh dives into key components including messaging, concepts, metrics, and tools that can be implemented across different groups; how they are integral to one another; how various data from metrics across different teams should be interpreted; and what actions should be taken. Through real world examples from various companies, Leigh takes you through lessons he learned—from both success and failure.

The simplicity of agile frameworks makes many of us believe that agile is simple. However, it’s actually extremely hard to make it working in a non-agile environment. By non-agile environment, I mean organizations which are fundamentally driven by heavy controls and governance; systems which are legacy large, complex & tightly coupled; multiple stakeholders with conflicting priorities and list goes on.
This paper is share my experiences of one such journey of implementing agile in such non-agile world. It was quite a bumpy ride but in the end, we got a recipe with perfect blend of scrum, XP and Kanban practices – something which was generating visible value and truly in line with agile principles.

The Sprint Planning meeting is just too long and never finishes on time.
I finished my tasks on time, the story couldn’t be completed as there was a dependency on him. I just didn’t have time to follow it up. Not my fault.
Yet again, there are left over items in the sprint. We couldn’t finish all the committed stories as some of them were too complex for their correct effort complexity estimation.
Ohh Gosh, once again the priority of the tasks have changed in the middle of the sprint, there are new urgent items that have to be done. My sprint commitments have gone for a toss.
We moved to Agile from waterfall and it has been few sprints into it, though even here vision is unclear, requirements are evolving and our sprint commitments are failing. Velocity is just been a number, Burn down graphs conclude nothing concrete and useful.
How do we cater support/maintenance work with Scrum?

Advancing Testing Program Maturity in your organization
This will be presented at the Optimizely's San Francisco User Group session on Oct 4th. As with any program, an A/B Testing Practice also follows a specific maturity curve. Since it is much more complex and spans across various domains and business units, it begins with a "Sell" phase focused on getting buy-in from various stakeholders but with a specific focus on Engineering & QA, followed by "Scale" phase with focus on building team, efficiency and program and then on to "Expand" phase focused on wider scope/complex tests and strengthen the platform, over to the "Deepen" phase where the focus is to ingrain testing within the company's DNA, i.e., within the backend/algorithms, cross pollinate learning and testing across various business units. The final phase is the "Sustain" phase where Algorithmic Test Management takes over Testing, and Testing is productized as a Value Add service for monetization and brand captial creation. The session will be rounded up with a working session with the audience on their own journey, lessons and advice for others.
How do we fix testing
Perhaps in no other professional field is the dichotomy between theory and practice more starkly different than in the realm of software testing. Researchers and thought leaders claim that testing requires a high level of cognitive and interpersonal skills, in order to make judgments about the ability of software to fulfill its operational goals. In their minds, testing is about assessing and communicating the risks involved in deploying software in a specific state.
However, in many organizations, testing remains a necessary evil, and a cost to drive down as much as possible. Testing is merely a measure of conformance to requirements, without regard to the quality of requirements or how conformance is measured. This is certainly an important measure, but tells an incomplete story about the value of software in support of our business goals.
We as testers often help to perpetuate the status quo. Although in many cases we realize we can add far more value than we do, we continue to perform testing in a manner that reduces our value in the software development process.
This presentation looks at the state of the art as well of the state of common practice, and attempts to provide a rationale and roadmap whereby the practice of testing can be made more exciting and stimulating to the testing professional, as well as more valuable to the product and the organization.

As we all know, Agile, at it’s core, emphasizes on team work. And, if you look at any successful Agile story, the key to it’s success would be a self-oragnized, cohesive team and other factors only add to this.
More often than not, Retrospectives are probably the only forum where the entire team comes together as a single unit and these meetings usually end up being crib (and ranting) sessions. And, because of that, teams are not very enthusiastic about retrospectives and these meetings become more of a ritual than being productive and useful.
As the name ‘Appreciative Enquiry’ suggests, the focus of this meeting was on things that created a positive impact on the team and the project. Last month (June 2016), I helped a well-known higher education institute in Indonesia. I train the lecturers there, so that their students can practice agile software development.

Can you imagine a condition when all our CS/IT students already get the real experiences of proper Scrum, Automated Testing, etc?
In that imaginary world, agile software development is already the norm! In the other side, there is no more room for Waterfall’s Big-Design-Up-Front style. Because we know that any software problem is inherently a design problem—or complex problem in Cynefin framework. You can’t solve that kind of problem by designing a big-fixed solution up in the front.
And if almost every software development is already agile—as it was visioned back then in 2001 manifesto, why would we still use ‘agile’ term?
We invent words to categorize things. Before ‘agile’ was proposed in the 2001 manifesto, they called it ‘lightweight’. Because it’s different with the previous heavy weight Waterfall.
Now, when I say the word ‘computer’, what would your brain emulate? A mainframe computer? Or a personal computer? Both of them are literally a computing machine. I put my money on personal computer. Because almost everyone see personal computer in daily basis. And they haven’t seen any mainframe computer once in their life.
Just as the dead of ‘personal’ term, in ‘personal computer’—I don’t count PC because that’s an abbreviation—‘agile’ in ‘agile software development’ will also be dead.
Not because it’s bad. On the contrary, that’s because agility the best option for software development.
In 2026 I, believe, we will call it simply as ‘software development’.
Please help the world to reach that kind of utopia, at least by telling your ex-lecturers, “you should teach agile software development properly”.
We should be so proud for standing here. Being a part of agile software development movement, of the 21st century.
Why?
Because a good movement always has a goal,
this agile software development movement also has a clear end.
If You Need To Run A Project You've Already Failed : Presented by Evan Leybourn
I want to be controversial for a moment and propose an end to IT projects, project management & project managers. I propose that the entire project process is flawed from the start for one simple reason. If you need to run a project, you’ve already failed.
By definition, an IT project is a temporary structure to govern and deliver a complex change (such as a new product or platform) into an organisation. However, to be truly competitive, an organisation needs to be able to deliver a continuous stream of change. Managed properly, this negates the need for a project and the associated cost overheads.
This is fundamentally what #noprojects is. The approach, structure, tactics and techniques available to successfully deliver continuous change. At its core, #noprojects is predicated on the alignment of activities to outcomes, measured by value, constrained by guiding principles and supported by continuous delivery technologies.

I remember that morning, 6 or 7 years ago. I had been practicing Agile for a couple of years and I had decided to update my LinkedIn profile. I opened my profile, edited my headline and replaced “Scrum Master” with “Agile Coach”.
That was a lie. But I didn’t know it at that time. I really believed I had become a coach. In reality I was a consultant, a trainer, sometimes a mentor.
A few years later I decided to go back to school -a coaching school- and it changed my life.
In this talk, I shared my personal journey to become an (Agile) Coach and shared what I’ve learned along the way:
• What is the difference between consulting, training, coaching and why we should care?
• Why by calling ourselves coaches we are not doing any good to the coach profession?
• What can we do about it?
• How did I become a coach?
• What are my coaching tools?

frequently which causes huge loss of life and property because of the poor emergency facilities.
Many lives could have been saved if emergency service could get accident information and
reach in time. Our project will provide an optimum solution to this draw back. A piezo electric
sensor can be used as a crash or rollover detector of the vehicle during and after a crash. With
signals from a piezo electric sensor, a severe accident can be recognized. According to this
project when a vehicle meets with an accident immediately piezo electric sensor will detect the
signal or if a car rolls over. Then with the help of GSM module and GPS module, the location
will be sent to the emergency contact. Then after conforming the location necessary action will
be taken. If the person meets with a small accident or if there is no serious threat to anyone’s
life, then the alert message can be terminated by the driver by a switch provided in order to
avoid wasting the valuable time of the medical rescue team.
