The Pollution Of The San Joaquin Valley
The Water In The Valley. If the water is contaminated by the airborne pollutants, whether by
depositing through direct water surface contact or by depositing on land and being carried to
water bodies through run off, the residents will face problems. Once in the water, these
pollutants can cause the fish to poison people upon consumption, or the fish could die out.
Harmful algal blooms could occur; the water will become contaminated and unsafe to drink.
This might seem like an exaggeration but in the San Joaquin Valley, the threat is very real. One
might say that the people of the San Joaquin Valley may depend on water more than people
elsewhere. The residents need water more because many of them depend on having enough
water for their jobs, not just for their consumption. Being one of the top agricultural industries,
the San Joaquin Valley residents need to have plenty of water for their industry of choice,
whether is be for watering their crops or keeping the cows food (grass) alive, to ensure that they
will be able to bring in profit to the valley and be able to feed themselves and their families. One of
the reasons why the San Joaquin Valley is highly susceptible to water contamination is because of
agriculturepesticides such as the nitrogen based fertilizer called nitrate. Nitrates, once they ve
entered the body, are converted to nitrites (Basic Info. About Nitrate in Drinking Water). If a baby
younger than six months consumes water with more nitrate than the

Wireless Human Area Network
We are heading towards an electronic future(era of electronics) where information will be
accessible at our fingertips, wherever and whenever wanted. Some of the communication and
computing equipment required to provide this immediate and intimate access to information will
be incorporated into our fit out. Just as a glance at present day s wristwatch saves a trip time to
the nearby clock, a glance at future s wristwatch will replace finding a terminal to check e mail.. A
Human Area Network (HAN), also referred to as a wirelesshuman area network (WHAN) or a
body sensor network (BSN), is a wireless network of wearable computing devices. In particular,
the wireless network comprises of several miniaturized Body Sensor Units (BSUs) together with a
single Body Central Unit (BCU). The development of WHAN technology started around 1995
around the idea of using wireless personal area network (WPAN) technologies to implement
communications near, on, and around the human body. About seven years later, the term HAN
came into existence to refer systems where communication is entirely on, within, and in the
immediate presence of a human body. A WHAN system can use WPAN wireless network
technologies as gateways to reach longer network ranges. Human Area Networking (HAN) is a
technology that safely and securely turns the surface of the human body into a data transmission
path by using minute electric fields generated on surface of human body at speeds up to 10 Mbps

In Defense of Free Will
In this paper I will present an argument against free will and then I will defend a response to that
argument. Free will is defined as having the ability to make our own choices. Some will argue
that all of our decisions have already been dictated by our desires therefore we never actually
truly make our own choices. The purpose of this paper is to defend the argument that we have
free will by attacking the premise that states we have no control over what we desire. I will
defeat this premise by showing how one does have control over his/her desires through the idea
of self control. I will then defend my argument against likely rebuttals that state that there is still
no way to control our desires proving that we do have free will. 1. The Argument Against Free
Will The argument against free will states that; what you do is always determined by what you
have the strongest desire to do, but you have no control over what you desire. If what you do is
always determined by something that you have no control over then you can never actually act
freely. It follows from what has been said that one does not have free will. The first statement
seems to not make a whole lot of sense right off the bat. You would think that if someone wants to
do something but does not do it then they are not choosing their greatest desire. How does your
brain tell you what you want? Do you have any control over what your brain says you want?
According to what this argument states we do not

A World Full of Loneliness
In life, everyone wants to have somebody they can call a friend. The unfortunate reality of this is
that at some point in time, almost every person will experience loneliness. Of Mice and Men, by
John Steinbeck, deals with the hardships of two friends who put their belief in a giant pipe dream.
The book follows George and Lennie s troubled and laborious life until their plans go very awry.
King of Hoboes, Arvel Pearson , by Errol Lincoln Uys, is a nonfiction text which overviews Arvel
Pearson s life as a professional hobo. This includes a detailed version of what it was like to be a
hobo in the time period known as the Great Depression and provides an idea of ... Show more

Later in the chapter, after the men have talked for a while, Curley s wife enters the bunk too. An
argument takes place following her arrival and Crooks is reduced... to nothing by a threat made
by Curley s wife (Steinbeck 81). This proves to be a reminder to Crooks as to why he should
never let people inside his built up walls. Steinbeck uses this portion of his book to exemplify
loneliness; his main theme of the novel. Crooks begins all alone, befriends someone just this
once, but remains lonely by the end. If Crooks is not threatened and remains a friend of Lennie
s, the message this sends would be very different; however the reality of this situation occurring
is unlikely. During the 1930 s, a time recognized as the Great Depression, almost everyone
primarily wants to survive and that left most people working to earn a stake; friendships are an
unimportant matter. In King of Hoboes it mentions that Arvel Pearson had a partner but it [did
not] work out (Uys 47). If one of them makes it onto a train, but the other one misses it then most
likely they will be separated for good. As a hobo, Pearson s story mentions there [are] nights [he
will] get homesick waiting for a train with nobody to talk to (Uys 48). This could be a reason a
hobo might attempt to make a friend. The solitude that a hobo faces can be overwhelming, but
traveling with a partner seemingly could solve this problem. The character or person will make a
friend to cope with the

Benazir Bhutto
It was night of December 27, 2007, before my ninth grade final exam, I was in a tutoring center
when we heard many gunshots outside; it wasn t just one person who was shooting in the air but
several. We were frightened for our lives, as they started approaching the stores and small shops to
shut them down forcefully. The cell phone signals were jammed, and we were unable to contact our
parents. After about half an hour, we heard on in the news that the ex Prime minister and
chairperson of one of the political party (Pakistan People s Party) of Pakistan was assassinated.
Benazir Bhutto was a daughter of ex prime minister and a woman with many qualities; she was a
Harvard and Oxford graduate, a well known political figure and the first female Prime Minister of
Pakistan.
Benazir Bhutto was the eldest daughter of former Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. Benazir
Bhutto was born on June 21, 1953. She became the 11th Prime Minster of Pakistan in 1988 1990
after Pakistan People s Party won the elections. Benazir Bhutto s father was a man who was highly
educated and very modern. His daughter followed his footsteps to promote the education level for
men and women in Pakistan. Bhutto was physically brave beyond comprehension. She had a
commanding personality, was extremely intelligent and well read (Ispahani, Huffington post).

Descriptive Essay About The Jacket
I threw my books on the bed and approached the jacket slowly, as it if were an emmy award. I sat
and admired the jacket, for a second and cleared the mind from my day at school. This was
something I had been wanting for years, and it was a like a dream, now turned into a reality. The
black sleeves and silver studs were everything I could have ever wished for. I touched the black
colored lining, the silver studs in unison. I looked at myself in the mirror, feeling proud. This was
something that I felt very emotional about, because my family doesn t have a lot of money. The
jacketwould be one of my only gifts, or just something that was new, for a while. From the
kitchen, my mother yelled that my jacket was in the closet. I closed the door on her voice, hoping
that once I opened those closet doors, I didn t find a jacket with mustard coloring lining, and a
brown jacket. I felt a sigh of relief as I looked through all my clothes, and didn t find a mustard
jacket. Instead, I stared at the jacket I knew all the boys would be sporting this year. I felt for once
like I was one of them. I wanted to cry, because of all the joy I felt in my heart. I knew I would
have to wear this jacket for years, because we couldn t afford a new one. But, I wasn t dreading it. I
liked my jacket, and felt confident. I was a small kid, thin as a rail by the bus station on forty
third street. I stared at the jacket like it was me wrapped up, in an expensive piece of clothing. In

Acquiring Personal Freedom Essay
Acquiring Personal Freedom
On a cold January day, a performance broke all barriers. The crowd erupted as the curtains opened
to reveal the silhouette of a rock legend. The music initiated moves that seemed to defy explanation.
Long, sensuous legs captured the audience as they moved with lightning speed while voluptuous
red lips seemed to pour lyrics like a fountain. Some people were in shock about who was
performing, while some mystified by how the artist seemed to control the stage. The singer was
creating questions with every gyration during the unstoppable performance. No one, including me,
could believe what was happening on stage.

Some of them were nervous about the whole idea of putting on a dress. I definitely felt awkward
doing this, but I put on a front that was one of confidence to help them. The reason I appeared to
have it all together was that I knew if I showed any sign of nervousness or fear, everyone else
would see it and feel the same. After a few practices, we felt ready for the real thing.
Thursday morning began like all the others. The sun rose over the cold valley to reveal the fog
rising off the river. As I arrived at school, I felt relieved, mostly because I was finally able to
escape the constant screaming and giggling that blasted out of the little kids at the front of the
bus. When I entered the office, looks of intrigue showered over me as I placed my costume on
the floor. The morning seemed to last an eternity and the butterflies seemed to be getting thicker.
To me, lunch was tasteless and I was not able to stomach much of it since it was only an hour till
I was supposed to break a leg. When it was time to get ready, I grabbed my outfit and proceeded
to the bathroom. My sinuses became cauterized as I entered the bathroom to change. My mind was
too busy processing my nervous feelings that I did not notice two other people enter the bathroom
until they began to leave. With my entourage of clothing nearly masking my true gender, I stepped

Essay about Words That Have Shaped Me
Words That Have Shaped Me
Often I sit at the computer, or with a pen and paper, and I think about what I should write. I
reflect on my experiences with life, or with my feelings and emotions. If the subject that I write
about is coming from my heart, I could write forever, opposed to something that I do not have
interest in like the mating habits of fireflies. I don t care about how, when, and much less why
they procreate. I would always dread having to write a paper for my English class, and it was not
until I discovered my own love for poetry that I began to enjoy writing. It was my junior English

They don t happen in a meeting or two. It s a package deal, Friendship, only as valuable as what
you put in it. Judging something like that after one year, even if you ve got all the facts, that s
like looking for the final score before you ve seen the second inning. Over time, through the
difficulties we had endured together; we had grown closer than ever. That is how I know that
my friends really mean the world to me. Through the pain of mistrust, and lies, we became better
friends than we had ever been. It is better to have one or two best friends than hundreds of
acquaintances. It was not until I had to move away to Phoenix in my junior year that we realized
what we meant to each other. The word Best found its way into our vocabulary and stuck to our
title as friends. It seems foolish to me when after a month of friendship people call themselves Best
Friends. The Best Friend title has to be earned through time, effort, and pain. I am proud to say that
I have earned that title with two people, and I honestly do not think I could get through life s
difficulties without them.
As a child my peers judged me harshly, and I know for a fact that that is the reason I sometimes

Complementary and Alternative Pain Reduction Methods in Healthcare
Pain is the most commonly reported reason for coming to the hospital in America. It s causes have
a massive variance, and in many chronic cases the root source of pain can not be articulated at all.
When a patient reports pain, the role of the nurse, and the whole healthcare staff, is to aim to reduce
that pain. In many cases pain reduction can be attained through nonpharmacologic, complementary
and alternative methods (CAM). Using CAM to reduce pain is an ideal scenario for both the patient
and the healthcare staff as these alternative methods have fewer negative consequential effects.
The following analysis will observe various methods of CAM pain reduction, highlighting two
major CAM therapies of interest: music therapy, animal therapy. In addition, the following analysis
will discuss how different demographics react to such therapies, with gender, age, ethnicity, and
education level playing a role in relation to a patient s willingness to be open to CAM. Lastly this
analysis will discuss the drawbacks of CAM therapies in the medical community today, emphasising
a lack of discussion between provider and patient, and the general lack of clinical education
surrounding CAM therapies within the medical community.

How Does Faust Have An Effect On German Language
Classic words can influence those who read, and even those who write. For example, the iconic
play Faust. Written by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in 1776, Faust is based off of an old
Germanic legend, but Goethe himself used his real life experiences to flesh out the titular character
in his book. As a result, Fausthas become a very culturally important and influential drama that has
had such an impact, it has even changed the German language. Von Goethe s drama, Faust, is a
drama with strong themes referring to man s dissatisfaction with the world, as the main conflict
involved a man selling his soul to a demon to achieve everything he could not attain himself.
To begin, Faust s characterization of the main character, is inspired by Wolfgang... Show more

The influence of the book has even been stated as little less than the bible (Carus). The bible has
shaped most of human existence, so for the books impact to be so important, it s influenced many
things. The German language for example, has many phrases, such as Des Pudels kern , which
translates to the core of the poodle . In the book, a poodle appears following Faust, and the poodle
eventually becomes Mephistopheles, a demon. It means the real nature of something within, which
alludes to that scene in Faust every time it is mentioned. It shows how truly impactful Faust to the
German language and lore. While Goethe s Faust may be very popular and important, the story he
wrote is not the ONLY interpretation. Several other authors have written books, symphonies, and
plethoras of forms of art based on the story behind Faust. The lore, originating around the 13th
century, the legend of Faust is about a man making a deal with the devil to receive otherworldly
powers to satisfy his humane needs. He is so dissatisfied with his knowledge, he wants more, and
this is very much like the interpretation Goethe wrote (Boyle). The story itself has spawned over
100 interpretations (Faust).
In conclusion, Faust by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe is a very famous drama not only because of
the brilliant writing. The author uses his own life to inspire the characters emotions, and in addition
to this, the famous tale behind it helped it gain

An Analysis Of David Slaying Goliath By Peter Paul Rubens
David Slaying Goliath by Peter Paul Rubens is an example of Renaissance art. This painting
depicts a well known Bible story of a young Israelite boy named David who kills the giant,
Goliath, with a slingshot, and chops off his head with a sword. Rubens has chosen to illustrate this
Bible story at the moment when David is about to hack off Goliath s head with the giant s sword.
In addition, we see armor clad soldiers rushing into battle in the background. In David Slaying
Goliath, Peter Paul Rubensuses color, value, and line to illustrate the dynamism and energy within
the painting that makes it look realistic. In addition, these elements contribute to the sense of
excitement and anticipation of the event depicted. First of all, Rubens uses dark and lightcolors
throughout the painting to emphasize movement and fluidity. The most obvious use of
movement through color appears on David. David s bright red drapery is what draws our eyes
in first because David is the most important object in the painting. The different shades of red
emphasize movement because it accentuates the folds of the drapery, making it flow. The warmth
of the red in his drapery contrasting with the darkness of the ground gives off intensity and
seriousness of the scene. Furthermore, there is bright red blood on Goliath s forehead, where
David struck him with a rock. The red blood sticks out, making the scene a bit more realistic and
exciting. The dark and light colors used in the sky also shows

A Brief Note On The United Kingdom ( Uk ) Essay
Overview of the Healthcare System in the United Kingdom (UK) With over 65 million
inhabitants, the United Kingdom (UK) is the 21st most populated country in the world, behind
China, India and the US as the top three ranked countries in terms of population (Worldometers,
2016). However, its healthcare system is ranked as 5th worldwide (GBD2015 SDG
Collaborators, 2016). The UK health system is financed primarily via general taxation. The
system is lauded for providing universal coverage of all people ordinarily resident, and generally
at no charge for the patient at the point of care (Mossialos, 2016). The breadth of covered services
derives from the 2006 Health Act that put forth the Secretary of State s duty to promote a
comprehensive health service to secure improvement in the physical and mental health of the
people of England, and the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness (Legislation.gov.uk,
2006). On an annual basis, the Secretary of State sets health and efficiency goals for NHS
England, the organization tasked with plan and budget management (Mossialos, 2016). Quality of
care concerns are overseen by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), which requires all healthcare
providers to be registered, so their performance can be assessed against national quality standards.
These national quality standards are developed by the National Institute for Health and Clinical
Excellence (NICE), and include measures such as maximum wait times for key

Lissencephay Research Paper
Human brain development represents a dynamic and complex process that requires fine tuning of
biochemical, genetic, environmental and physical events. Neuronal migration is a significant part
of neurodevelopment, which is a term that describes moving of nerve cells from their origin to their
ultimate location.
During the first trimester of pregnancy, abnormalities of the migrating neuroblasts and glioblasts
may result in abnormal gyral development, leading to a disorder known as lissencephaly.
Lissencephaly (a term derived from Greek words for smooth brain ) is characterized by a smooth
cortical surface, and occurs because there is a disruption of the ordered migration of neurons to
their permanent place in the brain cortex.
Genes and molecular pathophysiology
Lissencephaly was initially described in 1868 as a distinct clinical entity by Owen, and it was also

the absence of secondary sulci. Gray matter heterotopia (i.e. mislocation of the gray matter),

Nursing is a job we would consider a very selfless job. It s a job that requires you to be at your
best at every moment because someone s life or well being is depending on you. Long shifts may
get you tired, you may not have a lunch break because you are working non stop but you could
care less. All you care about is impacting the lives of others. You are constantly putting others before
yourself. Florence Nightingale was a remarkable woman who did exactly this. Nightingale was born
in Florence Italy, on May 12, 1820. She discovered she wanted to be a nurse early in her lifetime

the Indian government. Her reports and testimony to others on sanitary conditions of the army
led to a lot of improvements that also led to opening an army medical college in 1861. Florence
also intended to write a book to help others on practicing how to become a nurse and how
nursing can be used in future preferences. Aside from all of that Florence helped establish many
nursing organizations throughout her whole life. Doing what she did for others she won awards
for the work that she did. In the 1870 s, she mentored Linda Richards, the first professionally

Negatives of Marijuana Marijuana is a dangerous drug and should not be legalized. Marijuana
can damage lungs, it can affect cardiovascular shape and it puts you at higher risk for heart
attack or stroke, raises blood pressure and many other harmful effects. You can also end up
getting addicted to marijuana (Watson4). It s a very dangerous drug especially if driving. There
are many DUI s and deadly accidents that are marijuana related each year (gray1). That s why
marijuana is illegal in almost every state. Nevertheless, the number of teenagers partaking in
marijuana does appear to be on the rise, at least partially due to a reduced perception of risk
among teens who have been following the various legal debates around the country around
legalization of medicinal and recreational marijuana. Noelle swan (Christian Science Monitor2).
Although Marijuana is dangerous it doesn t seem to stop any one from using it. Marijuana is the
most common used drug in the United States and polls show that Americans are in favor of
marijuana (congressional digest1). It has various slang names such as; weed, pot, grass, ganja,
bud, herb, and many more. In two states recreational marijuana is legal and twenty eight states
medical marijuana and legal in two states for recreation use marijuana (Gray1). Marijuana
cultivation has been traced back up to six thousand years ago. Some strains of marijuana are found
to be up to seven times stronger than decades ago (Harvard Heart1). There is even

How Harry Is A Moral Figure During A Time Of War
Choices that Harry makes often lean him into dangerous situations and endanger other people, yet
his intentions are always in an attempt to help and it is their actions after a situation goes bad that
truly shows how Harry is a moral figure during a time of war. During Deathly Hallows, Harry,
Ron, and Hermione use the Polyjuice Potion to sneak into the Ministry of Magic to retrieve a
Horcrux, and in doing so, jeopardize the lives of the three employees, and the Cattermole family.
Harry and his friends good intentions were there they never expected that they would cause a
ruckus and endanger someone s life. However, once they realized this, they did as much as they
could to warn the family and the other families waiting to be tried about what was coming, and
warned them to run. Their intentions were pure, and they made a choice that they believed to be
safe for the impersonated party and when they realized the danger, they accepted the
consequences and sought to rectify the situation for all parties impacted: It s been decided that
you should all go home and go into hiding with your families, Harry told the Muggle borns, who
were dazzled by the light of the Patronuses and still cowering slightly. Go abroad if you can. Just
get well away from the Ministry. That s the er new official position. Now, if you ll just follow the
Patronuses, you ll be able to leave from the Atrium. (Deathly Hallows 264).

surrounding the creation of a no fault divorce system. To what extent do you consider the law in
this area should be reformed?
1.Analyse impact of 5 facts
2.Argue no fault divorce system
3.Reform
Intro:
The law of divorce has drastically evolved through the years and encompasses the process of
terminating a valid marriage between a woman and a man, ultimately ending their relationship.
Contemporary developments in English law have altered the principal basis of divorce by
substituting irretrievable breakdown of marriage in place of the fault oriented grounds, which is the
only ground for a divorce. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Significantly, no connection between the two factors is necessary, which was confirmed in Roper v

There exists some confusion to what adultery is deemed to mean, however, definitions have been
established through case law as there is no statutory definition. The general consensus is that
adultery is voluntary sexual intercourse between a man and a woman who are not married to each
other but one of whom at least is a married person.
Behaviour
The fact of behaviour requires that the respondent behaved in such a way that the petitioner cannot

Nissan UK is able to use inflation in the prices of their goods, this is because they are then able to
make sure that they are taking advantage of this type of opportunity their organisation, this is going
to allow their company to make a profit at the time of a recession.
From the economic review for January 2012 has a graph that shows the output of the three major
economic sectors: manufacturing, construction and services. The graph shows the recession in
2008 to 2011 and how it recovers.
The graph shows that the manufacturing was a lot higher more higher in Q1 in 2008 compared
to the start of 2009. This shows that businesses were not manufacturing a lot of products and the
way in which the manufacturing decreased within a year. This also reflects the manufacturing
that Nissan UK did from 2008 to 2009 by making it go low because there wasn t a huge demand
for products. This also shows that the recession had just begun and was getting a lot worse in
2009. This must have had an impact on Nissan by making their employees lose their jobs
because there was less labour activity. In Q3 of 2009, the graph shows that there was progress
being made in the economy by showing recovery. The graph shows this in the way there is a
progress and this would have also impacted on Nissan

Virgin Of The Rocks Essay
Featured in this gallery are the two versions of The Virgin of the Rocks (also known as The
Madonna of the Rocks). These two altarpieces are being showcased in particular in this exhibition
because they share a location in the same Milanese church, the San Francesco Grande, and most
importantly the same artist (although this has been debated), Leonardo Da Vinci, painted both
versions of the altarpiece. Further, another reason why they are being portrayed in this exhibition is
due to the debates over their authenticity, even though they are 15 years apart in conception.
Additionally, the two pieces share the same subject matter, imagery, iconography and pyramidal
composition. In both altarpieces, the subject matter is unusual since the... Show more content on

According to the biographer, Charles Nicholl: the columbine suggests the dove of the Holy
Ghost, the cyclamen below Christ have heart shaped leaves which make it an emblem of love
and devotion, and by his knee is a basal rosette of primrose, an emblem of virtue. Kneeling below
St. John is the acanthus, considered to be a symbol of the resurrection because of its rapid growth;
the hypericum which has small dots of red on yellow petals represents the blood of the martyred
St. John. Other hidden symbols are religious in nature: the water, pearls and the crystal, which are
used to fasten Mary s robe, are symbols of her purity. This would make the connection with the
Immaculate Conception of Mary. Further, the stone formations, eroded by natural forces are a
metaphor for Mary, pointing towards her unexpected, virtuous fertility. Da Vinci wanted the viewer
to feel as if they were seeing material Nature spiritually transmuted.
In both versions of the altarpiece, Leonardo Da Vinci portrayed the Virgin together with the
Christ child and St. John, and with an angel. They have been placed amongst a rocky backdrop or
a grotto. It is the setting of the Biblical figures against this pictorial background that gives the
altarpiece it s title, the Virgin of the Rocks. The Virgin has been placed in the center of the
composition dressed in a blue garment. By having the Virgin as the focal

The Composition and Rhetoric Field Essay
Composition and Rhetoric (a.k.a. Writing Studies): A Flexible Field
In his essay, Teach Writing as a Process not a Product, Donald Murray outlines the major difference
between the traditional pedagogy that directed the teaching of writing in the past and his newly
hailed model. Traditionally, Murray explains, English teachers were taught to teach and evaluate
students writing as if it was a finished product of literature when, as he has discovered, students
learn better if they re taught that writing is a process. For Murray, once teachers regard writing
as a process, a student centered, or writer centered, curriculum falls into place. Rules for writing fall
by the way side as writers work at their own pace to see what works best for ... Show more content

The prohibition of any methods of inquiry is not productive when examining an all encompassing
topic such as discourse in culture.
In Susan Miller s historical analysis of Composition and Rhetoric, she explains how English studies
emphasizing the study of great works of literature became the pedagogy of choice within the
academy, and how this choice marginalized the teaching of writing, rhetoric, to the mere teaching of
style. In a traditional version of textual history, Miller explains, people characterized as authors are
almost always imagined in control of language. Miller argues that in order to maintain their status
as culture makers, the partriarchical power mongers who designed the first writing programs,
defined writers as those who wrote great works of literature. Miller is also critical of those scholars
of rhetoric who continue to lament and/or deny that classical rhetoric lost its influence over writing
instruction during its initial establishment in America. Although it s theoretically unfortunate that
rhetoric lost its status for several centuries within the pedagogical practices of writing instruction,
Miller argues that classical rhetoric no longer fit with the needs of a democratic society. Its demise
was inevitable.
This historical framework mapped out by Miller fits with Murray s complaint about English
teachers who were taught to regard a student s writing as a product. If a writer is defined merely as
a creator of great

Twin Rocks Friends Camp
On a chilly, windy morning on the Oregon Coast, I wake up at six to attend the daily camp
counselor meeting. Without a sound, I tip toe my way to the door without waking the five girls
sleeping in the cabin. I stop by the Undertow Cafe before the meeting. The fresh smell of a hot cup
of chai wakes me up for the hectic afternoon that awaits. In the meeting, we talk about today s
events and the activities for the girls. As I walk into the dining center, four hundred middle school
girl campers await outside. Looking out into the crowd, I think, Which girls will sit with me for
this meal? or Will any of the girls think I m cool enough to sit with? ,
After nine years attending Twin Rocks Friends Camp, my church nominated me out of many
applicants to be a counselor. In the past, I have shown many leadership attributes in Children s

I started out as someone who didn t read very many books other than picture books. I wasn t into

The Leather Boot As Evidence Against God Erlang s Impostor

The Fan Tower Restaurant as Witness to the Love of Zhou Shengxian , the dream encounter for
Second Brother Fan of Zhou Shengxian after she was died is somehow less interesting. When
reading the God Erlang s story, after god Erlang first appeared in Lady Han s garden I thought it

until I encountered the part where god Erland asked Lady Han for the jade waistband. I

charity and gain you merit in heaven (Feng, 260). After I read this sentence, I was sure that god
Erland was just an ordinary person who was attracted by Lady Han s beauty and wealth. The
question of the uncertainty of the supernatural element urged me to continue and finish the story
in order to find out the truth about who god Erlang was and how can he disappear by the

The only part that interested me in the Fan story is when Zhu Zhen opened Zhou Shengxian s

Tennessee Vs Garner
What citizen can defend himself in court if they are shot dead by a law enforcement officer
even before apprehension? The case of Tennessee v. Garner 471 U.S. 1 (1985) is a highly
significant case in our nation s criminal justice history. This case establishes a current day
guideline for how a citizen s Fourth Amendment rights and a law enforcement officer s pursuit of
a suspect may legally intersect. By interpreting the word seizure under the Fourth Amendment of
the Bill of Rights to include the seizing of the defendant s life. Tennessee v. Garner established
that the use of deadly force might only become applied by law enforcement in instances where the

Garner 471 U.S. 1 (1985) that under the Fourth Amendment a Police Officer could not legally

it. It was deemed that only if the officer had probable cause to believe the defendant had committed
a violent crime, was a danger to the community, or a threat to the officer would the officer have
the authority to utilize deadly force to stop the suspect. The United States Supreme Court further
decided that the Tennessee statute was invalid in regards to giving Officer Hymon authorization to
use deadly force in the instance of Edward Garner. The United States Supreme Court stated that
the Tennessee statute originated from a time when many more crimes were punishable by death
than are in present times. Thus it could no longer be interpreted literally in light of changes to the
criminal justice system. Due Process for all citizens is protected by the precedent set in this case;
stating firmly, as it does, that only in instances where an officer has probable cause to believe a

established during the Great Depression, restoring dignity back to the American people.
(History.com Staff, 2009) Energy, environment, jobs, economy (Our History, n.d.) It did this
through power production, flood control, and reforestation and staying with its mission of making
lives better for the people of the Tennessee Valley region. (How TVA Changed Lives, n.d.) Effects

As much as we hear the good and the bad from the TVA, the impacts can also be felt still to this
day throughout the region.IV. Conclusion Purpose of the Tennessee Valley Authority still
remains the same as it did back in 1933. The statement of purpose is To improve the navigability
and to provide for the flood control of the Tennessee River; to provide for reforestation and the
proper use of marginal lands in the Tennessee Valley; to provide for the agricultural and
industrial development of said valley...and for other purposes. (Our History, n.d.) The 2010s
brought with it some change and by 2014, the TVA achieved for the 15thyear, 99.999 percent
reliability and within the same year also saw a lower usage in gigawatt hours. (The 2010s, n.d.)
The TVA continues to help in the control of floods the southeastern region and is mostly under
control. An example was the rains in 1994, estimated savings were approximately $1billion in
damages that would have accrued through flooding. (Lange Ahillen, n.d.) Some other key
information about the TVA is that in 2015 it handled approximately three percent of the nation s
energy production and sold more than 158 billion kilowatt hours in electricity. (Lange Ahillen,
n.d.) TVA recreational area, such as Fort Loudon where there is picnicking, Percy Priest is great

Personal Responsibility And Work Opportunity...
Teenage pregnancy may not be one of the bigger issues of the world, like war or drug abuse, but
it still holds credibility. It also does not have a high declining rate. All of the world teenagers still
get pregnant, whether it be by a small or high percentage, and the government has no way to stop
it. However, the government can control what happens afterwards, when the baby is born.
Obviously, teens would have trouble in raising a baby on their own because they are not yet adults
so they need both financial and supportive help. So the government created Acts to help and states
carried out assistance programs as well. However, there has been controversy in whether or not
teenage mothers deserve all of this help. Teenage mothers should be... Show more content on

Same with WIC, no help can be administered until they receive an affirmation from a parent of
legal guardian over 18 years of age (Welfare for Pregnant Teens 2009). Now analyzing these
programs in a psychological sense, they could be appealing to the masses. This fallacy states
that the argument is either true or good because the masses thinks so or does it (Schick, Jr. and
Vaughn 2013). Many people believe it is right for teenage mothers to get help after all most
people think that since these girls are underage they cannot support themselves. This thinking is
also a form of fallacy known as Hasty Generalization, or concluding a verdict on something based
off of evidence applying to only a few things (Schick, Jr. and Vaughn 2013). Although sometimes
it may be true it does not mean that the teenage mom cannot take care of her child, it just simply
means that she needs some help with it is all. With this assumption, leading into one side of the
argument: these adolescent mothers should not receive welfare payments. Staten Island Borough
President James Molinaro claims that welfare payments for teenage parents is a burden for
taxpayers but it also provides an encouragement for teenagers to have kids since they know they
will be financially safe (Kriss 2013). Molinaro is not the only one who has this opinion.
Representative E. Clay Shaw also agrees that if teenage mothers did not get money than they would
be more careful when having sex (Navarro 1995). Sure this

Anabolic Steroids And Its Effects On The Brain
Brief History Anabolic steroids are directly related to steroids, and both have similar effects,
however anabolic steroids intensify protein production in cells, leading to enlarged muscles, rather
steroids contain various hormones including testosterone. Both, however exert the chemical
dopamine into the blood stream, negatively effecting the brain driving addiction and abuse. The
steps and action foreshadowing steroids can be traced back to 1849, when a German scientist
named Arnold Adolph Berthold conducted tests and experiments on Cockerels, concluding that
their male testicles contain the necessary factors that make them male. This revelation may not
attribute to the direct creation of anabolic steroids, however it casts a light towards
understanding anabolic steroids and must not be dismissed. With the cooperation of Berthold s
discovery, a German chemist Adolf Butenandt was able to purify and extract testosterone from
urine. With the collaboration of a fellow German chemist Leopold Ruziicka, they were able to
create a synthetic form of testosterone safe for human use in 1935. Their discovery received
international acclaim and they were rewarded the 1939 Nobel Prize for their work in chemistry.
The initial intent of steroids was to help treat men who had growth and development deficiencies.
When World War II broke out steroids were used to help malnourished soldiers gain weight and
increase performance. After the war, steroids were being extensively abused by

The Problem Of Providing Coverage Using A Group Of Mobile...
The problem of providing coverage using a group of mobile agents is investigated, where it is
desired to minimize the overall coverage metric (service cost) while achieving maximum
coverage with minimum actuator energy required by each agent. In addition, a distributed multi
agent area coverage control (MAACC) law is then provided which guarantees the convergence
of agents to the optimal configuration with respect to the cost (coverage metric) function. A
common assumption in all of the coverage control results is that the distribution of sensory
information in the environment is known apriori by all agents. The proposed cooperative area
coverage control framework is based on two interdependent tasks: (i) online learning of the
coverage area and storing of the data in the form of a probability map ; and (ii) utilization of the
probability map (which is used as a search map) and other data collected to compute online a
positional error trajectory (e(t)) for the agents to follow at specified sampling time steps. The group
of agents is considered as being a group of autonomous agents which exchange data but ultimately
make their own decisions based on the received data collected during an area coverage mission. In
addition to the probability map, each agent in a multi agent system transmits its position
information to its neighbours and receives the same information from them. The agents possess the
probability maps (made possible via time varying density function) of targets

Prescribed Pasture Burning
Fire! Most people are alarmed with that word. But fire is a major factor in allowing the
grasslands to exist. Native Americans used to burn prairies to get rid of all of the dead grass and
allow the new grass to grow for the bison to eat. Burning off grasslands in the spring permits the
grass to grow without being restricted by the old, dead grass. Fire also kills the parasites and flies
that bother the cattle in the summer. Invasive cedar trees overtake grasses and starve out good
native grasses. Other methods can be used to combat them but fire is the quickest and most
efficient. While pastureburning may seem harmful to some, it s an essential way to keep our
grasslands and prairies in working order. Native Americans used fire to
(invasive species, old/dead grass)
Our government enforces prescribed burning on land enrolled in Conservation Reserve Program
(CRP). Landowners who participated in this program are required to burn this native grass at least
once every three years.
Grass needs to be burned fairly often by humans or nature may take its course and possibly get
out of control and be disastrous. For example, consider the recent wildfires in California and
Colorado. These areas were devastated by fire because nature was left unchecked. Trees and brush
growth were allowed to grow at will, providing a perfect tinderbox. Many lives were lost. Homes
were destroyed and wildlife died. These areas would have benefitted

Symptoms Of Asthma
Asthma is a chronic disorder of the lungs in which inflamed airways are prone to constrict. This
causes episodes of breathlessness. Wheezing, coughing, and chest tightness that range in severity
from mild to life threatening degrees. Asthma causes a variety of symptoms that can worsen at any
time, which makes breathing difficult. Asthmacannot be cured, but it can definitely be managed.
Some days victims may have symptoms, and other days they won t. However, not having
symptoms of asthma does not mean your asthma has gone away. Asthma doesn t necessarily slow
victims body energy down, there are many things you can do to prevent attacks and control your

Some inhalers that are popular in the United States are Symbicort or HCP. Inhalers should be
used by asthma patients before the attack (when you start to feel the early symptoms of an
attack). Some patients also have a daily inhaler that is necessary for everyday activities, some
are used for sports or other activities that may make breathing difficult. There are different
inhalers for attacks in particular. If the attack is severe you can use the longer acting inhalers to
keep the airways open, or an oral steroid. Millions of families and individuals have to deal with
the severity and expenses of having asthma. The estimated cost of asthma in 2002 was $6.1
million. $11.5 billion indirect medical expenses and 4.6 billion in lost earnings because of the
disease and deaths. In addition to medical costs, working parents of children with asthma lose
about $1 million a year in productivity. There are some websites you can go on to donate to the
asthma organizations to help with the expenses of asthma. Fortunately, asthma isn t as life
threatening as other incurable diseases, but it is still affecting millions of lives negatively

Levitt s Freakonomics
Freakonomics is a humorous and intriguing book about taking off the top layer of a situation and
understanding what is happening underneath. Through everyday examples Steven D. Levitt and
Stephen J. Dubner take perspectives that are unheard of in any other writing while simultaneously
comparing the most unique and uncommon ideas to each other. As they study everyday life,
readers see insight to the ways in which the world really functions and runs. As they study the world
the authors continue to ask questions, thus continuing to challenge the reader to seek for a deeper
answer. Through these highly untypical questions, Levitt and Dubner are able to display that the
root of economics itself is incentives. The book begins by asking the questions what do
schoolteachers and sumo wrestlers have in common? (15). The average person would most likely
respond with nothing, but Levitt and Dubner show the reader there is more in common with each
than you would think. Each party can be held accountable for cheating. Teachers are often seen
cheating in some form on a standardized teststo help improve their students scores. Through giving
the students answers... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The authors continue to question the qualities of people through examples such as the bagel
company in a hopes of determining if people are really good. Levitt and Dubner continue their
questioning with examples like relators and the KKK. They are able to compare the secret codes
of the Klan to the words that real estate agents use when trying to sell a house. Later on, Levitt
and Dubner bring up the question of what makes a perfect parent? . They stress the idea that
parents are so afraid of making a mistake that they become terrible risk assessors and end up
putting their child in more danger. Again, Levitt and Dubner are focusing on an uncommon
perspective to bring insight to the reader of how the world really

Isthmus Of Panama
The formation of the Isthmus of Panama is seen today as one of the most transformative and
remarkable events of the Cenozoic. The formation of the land bridge that connects North and South
America and divides the Pacific and Atlantic oceans had profound affects on the climate,
atmosphere and the biodiversity of both marine and terrestrial organisms of the area encompassing
the Isthmus of Panama. It led to the Great American Biotic Interchange, which allowed for the
invasion of inhabitants from each side of the Americas. The dispersal of terrestrial organisms and
the vicariant separation of marine organisms produced dramatic transformations in the land
ecosystems of South America and Central America, which largely influenced the distribution...

The Akaike Information Criterion (AIC), which is a measure of the efficacy and accuracy of
statistical models for a given data set, was applied to the two most commonly debated migration
models for Isthmus formation. One migration model consisted of a single rate shift at around 3.5
Ma, the once widely accepted timing for the formation of Isthmus. The other migration model
consists of two rate shifts at 25 Ma and 10 M, consistent with the initial collision of South America
and the Panama Block and the closure of the CAS, respectively. Results from this test revealed that
the migration model consisting of two rate shifts was a more accurate model for the formation of
the Isthmus of Panama. As seen in figures 1A D, migrations between North and South America
occurred in gradual pulses over millions of years rather than just a sudden burst of migration events
occurring after closure of the Isthmus around 3.5 Ma, as indicated by the dashed

SIX DEBATES over MACROECONOMIC POLICY
SIX DEBATES over MACROECONOMIC POLICY
ISSUES| YES| NO| 1. Whether or not monetary and fiscal policymakers should try to stabilize the
economy| Advocates of active monetary and fiscal policy view the economy as inherently unstable
and believe that policy can manage aggregate demand, and thereby, production and employment, to
offset the inherent instability. When aggregate demand is inadequate to ensure full employment,
policymakers should boost government spending, cut taxes, and expand money supply. However,
when aggregate demand is excessive, risking higher inflation, policymakers should cut government
spending, raise taxes, and reduce the money supply. Such policy actions put ... Show more content

Increased spending on investment adds to aggregate demand and helps to restore normal levels of
production and employment.Fiscal policy, on the other hand, can provide an additional tool to
combat recessions and is particularly useful when the tools of monetary policy lose their
effectiveness. When the government cuts taxes, it increases households disposable income, which
encourages them to increase spending on consumption. When the government buys goods and
services, it adds directly to aggregate demand. Moreover, these fiscal actions can have multiplier
effects: Higher aggregate demand leads to higher incomes, which in turn induces additional
consumer spending and further increases in aggregate demand.Traditional Keynesian analysis
indicates that increases in government purchases are a more potent tool than decreases in taxes.
When the government gives a dollar in tax cuts to a household, part of that dollar may be saved
rather than spent. The part of the dollar that is saved does not contribute to the aggregate demand
for goods and services. By contrast, when the government spends a dollar buying a good or
service, that dollar immediately and fully adds to aggregate demand.| Critics of spending hikes
argue that tax cuts can expand both aggregate demand and aggregate supply and that hasty
increases in government spending may lead to wasteful public projects.Tax cuts increase aggregate
demand by increasing household s disposable income, as

  • 3. The Pollution Of The San Joaquin Valley The Water In The Valley. If the water is contaminated by the airborne pollutants, whether by depositing through direct water surface contact or by depositing on land and being carried to water bodies through run off, the residents will face problems. Once in the water, these pollutants can cause the fish to poison people upon consumption, or the fish could die out. Harmful algal blooms could occur; the water will become contaminated and unsafe to drink. This might seem like an exaggeration but in the San Joaquin Valley, the threat is very real. One might say that the people of the San Joaquin Valley may depend on water more than people elsewhere. The residents need water more because many of them depend on having enough water for their jobs, not just for their consumption. Being one of the top agricultural industries, the San Joaquin Valley residents need to have plenty of water for their industry of choice, whether is be for watering their crops or keeping the cows food (grass) alive, to ensure that they will be able to bring in profit to the valley and be able to feed themselves and their families. One of the reasons why the San Joaquin Valley is highly susceptible to water contamination is because of agriculturepesticides such as the nitrogen based fertilizer called nitrate. Nitrates, once they ve entered the body, are converted to nitrites (Basic Info. About Nitrate in Drinking Water). If a baby younger than six months consumes water with more nitrate than the ... • 4. Wireless Human Area Network We are heading towards an electronic future(era of electronics) where information will be accessible at our fingertips, wherever and whenever wanted. Some of the communication and computing equipment required to provide this immediate and intimate access to information will be incorporated into our fit out. Just as a glance at present day s wristwatch saves a trip time to the nearby clock, a glance at future s wristwatch will replace finding a terminal to check e mail.. A Human Area Network (HAN), also referred to as a wirelesshuman area network (WHAN) or a body sensor network (BSN), is a wireless network of wearable computing devices. In particular, the wireless network comprises of several miniaturized Body Sensor Units (BSUs) together with a single Body Central Unit (BCU). The development of WHAN technology started around 1995 around the idea of using wireless personal area network (WPAN) technologies to implement communications near, on, and around the human body. About seven years later, the term HAN came into existence to refer systems where communication is entirely on, within, and in the immediate presence of a human body. A WHAN system can use WPAN wireless network technologies as gateways to reach longer network ranges. Human Area Networking (HAN) is a technology that safely and securely turns the surface of the human body into a data transmission path by using minute electric fields generated on surface of human body at speeds up to 10 Mbps between any ... • 5. In Defense of Free Will In this paper I will present an argument against free will and then I will defend a response to that argument. Free will is defined as having the ability to make our own choices. Some will argue that all of our decisions have already been dictated by our desires therefore we never actually truly make our own choices. The purpose of this paper is to defend the argument that we have free will by attacking the premise that states we have no control over what we desire. I will defeat this premise by showing how one does have control over his/her desires through the idea of self control. I will then defend my argument against likely rebuttals that state that there is still no way to control our desires proving that we do have free will. 1. The Argument Against Free Will The argument against free will states that; what you do is always determined by what you have the strongest desire to do, but you have no control over what you desire. If what you do is always determined by something that you have no control over then you can never actually act freely. It follows from what has been said that one does not have free will. The first statement seems to not make a whole lot of sense right off the bat. You would think that if someone wants to do something but does not do it then they are not choosing their greatest desire. How does your brain tell you what you want? Do you have any control over what your brain says you want? According to what this argument states we do not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. A World Full Of Loneliness Megan Lee Mr. Bain Honors English 1 27 September 2014 A World Full of Loneliness In life, everyone wants to have somebody they can call a friend. The unfortunate reality of this is that at some point in time, almost every person will experience loneliness. Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, deals with the hardships of two friends who put their belief in a giant pipe dream. The book follows George and Lennie s troubled and laborious life until their plans go very awry. King of Hoboes, Arvel Pearson , by Errol Lincoln Uys, is a nonfiction text which overviews Arvel Pearson s life as a professional hobo. This includes a detailed version of what it was like to be a hobo in the time period known as the Great Depression and provides an idea of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Later in the chapter, after the men have talked for a while, Curley s wife enters the bunk too. An argument takes place following her arrival and Crooks is reduced... to nothing by a threat made by Curley s wife (Steinbeck 81). This proves to be a reminder to Crooks as to why he should never let people inside his built up walls. Steinbeck uses this portion of his book to exemplify loneliness; his main theme of the novel. Crooks begins all alone, befriends someone just this once, but remains lonely by the end. If Crooks is not threatened and remains a friend of Lennie s, the message this sends would be very different; however the reality of this situation occurring is unlikely. During the 1930 s, a time recognized as the Great Depression, almost everyone primarily wants to survive and that left most people working to earn a stake; friendships are an unimportant matter. In King of Hoboes it mentions that Arvel Pearson had a partner but it [did not] work out (Uys 47). If one of them makes it onto a train, but the other one misses it then most likely they will be separated for good. As a hobo, Pearson s story mentions there [are] nights [he will] get homesick waiting for a train with nobody to talk to (Uys 48). This could be a reason a hobo might attempt to make a friend. The solitude that a hobo faces can be overwhelming, but traveling with a partner seemingly could solve this problem. The character or person will make a friend to cope with the ... The Assassination Of Benazir Bhutto Syed Muhammad M Jafri COMM 100W Spring 16 03/15/2016 Benazir Bhutto It was night of December 27, 2007, before my ninth grade final exam, I was in a tutoring center when we heard many gunshots outside; it wasn t just one person who was shooting in the air but several. We were frightened for our lives, as they started approaching the stores and small shops to shut them down forcefully. The cell phone signals were jammed, and we were unable to contact our parents. After about half an hour, we heard on in the news that the ex Prime minister and chairperson of one of the political party (Pakistan People s Party) of Pakistan was assassinated. Benazir Bhutto was a daughter of ex prime minister and a woman with many qualities; she was a Harvard and Oxford graduate, a well known political figure and the first female Prime Minister of Pakistan. Benazir Bhutto was the eldest daughter of former Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. Benazir Bhutto was born on June 21, 1953. She became the 11th Prime Minster of Pakistan in 1988 1990 after Pakistan People s Party won the elections. Benazir Bhutto s father was a man who was highly educated and very modern. His daughter followed his footsteps to promote the education level for men and women in Pakistan. Bhutto was physically brave beyond comprehension. • 8. Descriptive Essay About The Jacket I threw my books on the bed and approached the jacket slowly, as it if were an emmy award. I sat and admired the jacket, for a second and cleared the mind from my day at school. This was something I had been wanting for years, and it was a like a dream, now turned into a reality. The black sleeves and silver studs were everything I could have ever wished for. I touched the black colored lining, the silver studs in unison. I looked at myself in the mirror, feeling proud. This was something that I felt very emotional about, because my family doesn t have a lot of money. The jacketwould be one of my only gifts, or just something that was new, for a while. From the kitchen, my mother yelled that my jacket was in the closet. I closed the door on her voice, hoping that once I opened those closet doors, I didn t find a jacket with mustard coloring lining, and a brown jacket. I felt a sigh of relief as I looked through all my clothes, and didn t find a mustard jacket. Instead, I stared at the jacket I knew all the boys would be sporting this year. I felt for once like I was one of them. I wanted to cry, because of all the joy I felt in my heart. I knew I would have to wear this jacket for years, because we couldn t afford a new one. But, I wasn t dreading it. I liked my jacket, and felt confident. I was a small kid, thin as a rail by the bus station on forty third street. After a few practices, we felt ready for the real thing. Thursday morning began like all the others. The sun rose over the cold valley to reveal the fog rising off the river. As I arrived at school, I felt relieved, mostly because I was finally able to escape the constant screaming and giggling that blasted out of the little kids at the front of the bus. When I entered the office, looks of intrigue showered over me as I placed my costume on the floor. The morning seemed to last an eternity and the butterflies seemed to be getting thicker. I reflect on my experiences with life, or with my feelings and emotions. Over time, through the difficulties we had endured together; we had grown closer than ever. That is how I know that my friends really mean the world to me. Through the pain of mistrust, and lies, we became better friends than we had ever been. It is better to have one or two best friends than hundreds of acquaintances. It was not until I had to move away to Phoenix in my junior year that we realized what we meant to each other. The word Best found its way into our vocabulary and stuck to our title as friends. It seems foolish to me when after a month of friendship people call themselves Best Friends. The Best Friend title has to be earned through time, effort, and pain. I am proud to say that I have earned that title with two people, and I honestly do not think I could get through life s difficulties without them. As a child my peers judged me harshly, and I know for a fact that that is the reason I sometimes let other people s opinions affect the way I do things. Complementary And Alternative Pain Reduction Complementary and Alternative Pain Reduction Methods in Healthcare Grace Kavanah The University of Maine Complementary and Alternative Pain Reduction Methods in Healthcare Pain is the most commonly reported reason for coming to the hospital in America. It s causes have a massive variance, and in many chronic cases the root source of pain can not be articulated at all. When a patient reports pain, the role of the nurse, and the whole healthcare staff, is to aim to reduce that pain. In many cases pain reduction can be attained through nonpharmacologic, complementary and alternative methods (CAM). Using CAM to reduce pain is an ideal scenario for both the patient and the healthcare staff as these alternative methods have fewer negative consequential effects. The following analysis will observe various methods of CAM pain reduction, highlighting two major CAM therapies of interest: music therapy, animal therapy. In addition, the following analysis will discuss how different demographics react to such therapies, with gender, age, ethnicity, and education level playing a role in relation to a patient s willingness to be open to CAM. Lastly this analysis will discuss the drawbacks of CAM therapies in the medical community today, emphasising a lack of discussion between provider and patient, and the general lack of clinical education surrounding CAM therapies within the medical community. • 12. How Does Faust Have An Effect On German Language Classic words can influence those who read, and even those who write. For example, the iconic play Faust. Written by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in 1776, Faust is based off of an old Germanic legend, but Goethe himself used his real life experiences to flesh out the titular character in his book. As a result, Fausthas become a very culturally important and influential drama that has had such an impact, it has even changed the German language. Von Goethe s drama, Faust, is a drama with strong themes referring to man s dissatisfaction with the world, as the main conflict involved a man selling his soul to a demon to achieve everything he could not attain himself. To begin, Faust s characterization of the main character, is inspired by Wolfgang... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The influence of the book has even been stated as little less than the bible (Carus). The bible has shaped most of human existence, so for the books impact to be so important, it s influenced many things. The German language for example, has many phrases, such as Des Pudels kern , which translates to the core of the poodle . In the book, a poodle appears following Faust, and the poodle eventually becomes Mephistopheles, a demon. It means the real nature of something within, which alludes to that scene in Faust every time it is mentioned. It shows how truly impactful Faust to the German language and lore. While Goethe s Faust may be very popular and important, the story he wrote is not the ONLY interpretation. Several other authors have written books, symphonies, and plethoras of forms of art based on the story behind Faust. The lore, originating around the 13th century, the legend of Faust is about a man making a deal with the devil to receive otherworldly powers to satisfy his humane needs. He is so dissatisfied with his knowledge, he wants more, and this is very much like the interpretation Goethe wrote (Boyle). The story itself has spawned over 100 interpretations (Faust). In conclusion, Faust by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe is a very famous drama not only because of the brilliant writing. • 13. An Analysis Of David Slaying Goliath By Peter Paul Rubens David Slaying Goliath by Peter Paul Rubens is an example of Renaissance art. This painting depicts a well known Bible story of a young Israelite boy named David who kills the giant, Goliath, with a slingshot, and chops off his head with a sword. Rubens has chosen to illustrate this Bible story at the moment when David is about to hack off Goliath s head with the giant s sword. In addition, we see armor clad soldiers rushing into battle in the background. In David Slaying Goliath, Peter Paul Rubensuses color, value, and line to illustrate the dynamism and energy within the painting that makes it look realistic. In addition, these elements contribute to the sense of excitement and anticipation of the event depicted. First of all, Rubens uses dark and lightcolors throughout the painting to emphasize movement and fluidity. The most obvious use of movement through color appears on David. David s bright red drapery is what draws our eyes in first because David is the most important object in the painting. The different shades of red emphasize movement because it accentuates the folds of the drapery, making it flow. The warmth of the red in his drapery contrasting with the darkness of the ground gives off intensity and seriousness of the scene. Furthermore, there is bright red blood on Goliath s forehead, where David struck him with a rock. The red blood sticks out, making the scene a bit more realistic and exciting. The dark and light colors used in the sky also shows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. A Brief Note On The United Kingdom ( Uk ) Essay Overview of the Healthcare System in the United Kingdom (UK) With over 65 million inhabitants, the United Kingdom (UK) is the 21st most populated country in the world, behind China, India and the US as the top three ranked countries in terms of population (Worldometers, 2016). However, its healthcare system is ranked as 5th worldwide (GBD2015 SDG Collaborators, 2016). The UK health system is financed primarily via general taxation. The system is lauded for providing universal coverage of all people ordinarily resident, and generally at no charge for the patient at the point of care (Mossialos, 2016). The breadth of covered services derives from the 2006 Health Act that put forth the Secretary of State s duty to promote a comprehensive health service to secure improvement in the physical and mental health of the people of England, and the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness (Legislation.gov.uk, 2006). On an annual basis, the Secretary of State sets health and efficiency goals for NHS England, the organization tasked with plan and budget management (Mossialos, 2016). Quality of care concerns are overseen by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), which requires all healthcare providers to be registered, so their performance can be assessed against national quality standards. These national quality standards are developed by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), and include measures such as maximum wait times for key ... Neuronal migration is a significant part of neurodevelopment, which is a term that describes moving of nerve cells from their origin to their ultimate location. During the first trimester of pregnancy, abnormalities of the migrating neuroblasts and glioblasts may result in abnormal gyral development, leading to a disorder known as lissencephaly. Lissencephaly (a term derived from Greek words for smooth brain ) is characterized by a smooth cortical surface, and occurs because there is a disruption of the ordered migration of neurons to their permanent place in the brain cortex. These two altarpieces are being showcased in particular in this exhibition because they share a location in the same Milanese church, the San Francesco Grande, and most importantly the same artist (although this has been debated), Leonardo Da Vinci, painted both versions of the altarpiece. Further, another reason why they are being portrayed in this exhibition is due to the debates over their authenticity, even though they are 15 years apart in conception. Kneeling below St. John is the acanthus, considered to be a symbol of the resurrection because of its rapid growth; the hypericum which has small dots of red on yellow petals represents the blood of the martyred St. John. Other hidden symbols are religious in nature: the water, pearls and the crystal, which are used to fasten Mary s robe, are symbols of her purity. Writing Studies): A Flexible Field In his essay, Teach Writing as a Process not a Product, Donald Murray outlines the major difference between the traditional pedagogy that directed the teaching of writing in the past and his newly hailed model. Traditionally, Murray explains, English teachers were taught to teach and evaluate students writing as if it was a finished product of literature when, as he has discovered, students learn better if they re taught that writing is a process. For Murray, once teachers regard writing as a process, a student centered, or writer centered, curriculum falls into place. The prohibition of any methods of inquiry is not productive when examining an all encompassing topic such as discourse in culture. In Susan Miller s historical analysis of Composition and Rhetoric, she explains how English studies emphasizing the study of great works of literature became the pedagogy of choice within the academy, and how this choice marginalized the teaching of writing, rhetoric, to the mere teaching of style. In a traditional version of textual history, Miller explains, people characterized as authors are almost always imagined in control of language. Miller argues that in order to maintain their status as culture makers, the partriarchical power mongers who designed the first writing programs, defined writers as those who wrote great works of literature. Miller is also critical of those scholars of rhetoric who continue to lament and/or deny that classical rhetoric lost its influence over writing instruction during its initial establishment in America. Although it s theoretically unfortunate that rhetoric lost its status for several centuries within the pedagogical practices of writing instruction, Miller argues that classical rhetoric no longer fit with the needs of a democratic society. Its demise was inevitable. This historical framework mapped out by Miller fits with Murray s complaint about English teachers who were taught to regard a student s writing as a product. It was deemed that only if the officer had probable cause to believe the defendant had committed a violent crime, was a danger to the community, or a threat to the officer would the officer have the authority to utilize deadly force to stop the suspect. The United States Supreme Court further decided that the Tennessee statute was invalid in regards to giving Officer Hymon authorization to use deadly force in the instance of Edward Garner. The United States Supreme Court stated that the Tennessee statute originated from a time when many more crimes were punishable by death than are in present times. It also does not have a high declining rate. All of the world teenagers still get pregnant, whether it be by a small or high percentage, and the government has no way to stop it. However, the government can control what happens afterwards, when the baby is born. Obviously, teens would have trouble in raising a baby on their own because they are not yet adults so they need both financial and supportive help. So the government created Acts to help and states carried out assistance programs as well. However, there has been controversy in whether or not teenage mothers deserve all of this help. Teenage mothers should be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Same with WIC, no help can be administered until they receive an affirmation from a parent of legal guardian over 18 years of age (Welfare for Pregnant Teens 2009). Now analyzing these programs in a psychological sense, they could be appealing to the masses. This fallacy states that the argument is either true or good because the masses thinks so or does it (Schick, Jr. and Vaughn 2013). Many people believe it is right for teenage mothers to get help after all most people think that since these girls are underage they cannot support themselves. This thinking is also a form of fallacy known as Hasty Generalization, or concluding a verdict on something based off of evidence applying to only a few things (Schick, Jr. and Vaughn 2013). Although sometimes it may be true it does not mean that the teenage mom cannot take care of her child, it just simply means that she needs some help with it is all. With this assumption, leading into one side of the argument: these adolescent mothers should not receive welfare payments. Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro claims that welfare payments for teenage parents is a burden for taxpayers but it also provides an encouragement for teenagers to have kids since they know they will be financially safe (Kriss 2013). • 42. Anabolic Steroids And Its Effects On The Brain Brief History Anabolic steroids are directly related to steroids, and both have similar effects, however anabolic steroids intensify protein production in cells, leading to enlarged muscles, rather steroids contain various hormones including testosterone. Both, however exert the chemical dopamine into the blood stream, negatively effecting the brain driving addiction and abuse. The steps and action foreshadowing steroids can be traced back to 1849, when a German scientist named Arnold Adolph Berthold conducted tests and experiments on Cockerels, concluding that their male testicles contain the necessary factors that make them male. This revelation may not attribute to the direct creation of anabolic steroids, however it casts a light towards understanding anabolic steroids and must not be dismissed. With the cooperation of Berthold s discovery, a German chemist Adolf Butenandt was able to purify and extract testosterone from urine. With the collaboration of a fellow German chemist Leopold Ruziicka, they were able to create a synthetic form of testosterone safe for human use in 1935. Their discovery received international acclaim and they were rewarded the 1939 Nobel Prize for their work in chemistry. The initial intent of steroids was to help treat men who had growth and development deficiencies. When World War II broke out steroids were used to help malnourished soldiers gain weight and increase performance. After the war, steroids were being extensively abused by ... • 43. The Problem Of Providing Coverage Using A Group Of Mobile... The problem of providing coverage using a group of mobile agents is investigated, where it is desired to minimize the overall coverage metric (service cost) while achieving maximum coverage with minimum actuator energy required by each agent. In addition, a distributed multi agent area coverage control (MAACC) law is then provided which guarantees the convergence of agents to the optimal configuration with respect to the cost (coverage metric) function. A common assumption in all of the coverage control results is that the distribution of sensory information in the environment is known apriori by all agents. The proposed cooperative area coverage control framework is based on two interdependent tasks: (i) online learning of the coverage area and storing of the data in the form of a probability map ; and (ii) utilization of the probability map (which is used as a search map) and other data collected to compute online a positional error trajectory (e(t)) for the agents to follow at specified sampling time steps. The group of agents is considered as being a group of autonomous agents which exchange data but ultimately make their own decisions based on the received data collected during an area coverage mission. In addition to the probability map, each agent in a multi agent system transmits its position information to its neighbours and receives the same information from them. The agents possess the probability maps (made possible via time varying density function) of targets ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Prescribed Pasture Burning Fire! Most people are alarmed with that word. But fire is a major factor in allowing the grasslands to exist. Native Americans used to burn prairies to get rid of all of the dead grass and allow the new grass to grow for the bison to eat. Burning off grasslands in the spring permits the grass to grow without being restricted by the old, dead grass. Fire also kills the parasites and flies that bother the cattle in the summer. Invasive cedar trees overtake grasses and starve out good native grasses. Other methods can be used to combat them but fire is the quickest and most efficient. While pastureburning may seem harmful to some, it s an essential way to keep our grasslands and prairies in working order. Native Americans used fire to (invasive species, old/dead grass) Our government enforces prescribed burning on land enrolled in Conservation Reserve Program (CRP). Landowners who participated in this program are required to burn this native grass at least once every three years. Grass needs to be burned fairly often by humans or nature may take its course and possibly get out of control and be disastrous. For example, consider the recent wildfires in California and Colorado. These areas were devastated by fire because nature was left unchecked. Trees and brush growth were allowed to grow at will, providing a perfect tinderbox. Many lives were lost. Homes were destroyed and wildlife died. These areas would have benefitted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As they study everyday life, readers see insight to the ways in which the world really functions and runs. As they study the world the authors continue to ask questions, thus continuing to challenge the reader to seek for a deeper answer. Through these highly untypical questions, Levitt and Dubner are able to display that the root of economics itself is incentives. The book begins by asking the questions what do schoolteachers and sumo wrestlers have in common? (15). The average person would most likely respond with nothing, but Levitt and Dubner show the reader there is more in common with each than you would think. The formation of the land bridge that connects North and South America and divides the Pacific and Atlantic oceans had profound affects on the climate, atmosphere and the biodiversity of both marine and terrestrial organisms of the area encompassing the Isthmus of Panama. It led to the Great American Biotic Interchange, which allowed for the invasion of inhabitants from each side of the Americas. The Akaike Information Criterion (AIC), which is a measure of the efficacy and accuracy of statistical models for a given data set, was applied to the two most commonly debated migration models for Isthmus formation. The other migration model consists of two rate shifts at 25 Ma and 10 M, consistent with the initial collision of South America and the Panama Block and the closure of the CAS, respectively. Results from this test revealed that the migration model consisting of two rate shifts was a more accurate model for the formation of the Isthmus of Panama. Whether or not monetary and fiscal policymakers should try to stabilize the economy| Advocates of active monetary and fiscal policy view the economy as inherently unstable and believe that policy can manage aggregate demand, and thereby, production and employment, to offset the inherent instability. When aggregate demand is inadequate to ensure full employment, policymakers should boost government spending, cut taxes, and expand money supply. However, when aggregate demand is excessive, risking higher inflation, policymakers should cut government spending, raise taxes, and reduce the money supply. Such policy actions put ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Increased spending on investment adds to aggregate demand and helps to restore normal levels of production and employment.Fiscal policy, on the other hand, can provide an additional tool to combat recessions and is particularly useful when the tools of monetary policy lose their effectiveness. When the government cuts taxes, it increases households disposable income, which encourages them to increase spending on consumption. When the government buys goods and services, it adds directly to aggregate demand. Moreover, these fiscal actions can have multiplier effects: Higher aggregate demand leads to higher incomes, which in turn induces additional consumer spending and further increases in aggregate demand.Traditional Keynesian analysis indicates that increases in government purchases are a more potent tool than decreases in taxes. When the government gives a dollar in tax cuts to a household, part of that dollar may be saved rather than spent. The part of the dollar that is saved does not contribute to the aggregate demand for goods and services. By contrast, when the government spends a dollar buying a good or service, that dollar immediately and fully adds to aggregate demand.| Critics of spending hikes argue that tax cuts can expand both aggregate demand and aggregate supply and that hasty increases in government spending may lead to wasteful public projects.Tax cuts increase aggregate demand by increasing household s disposable income, as ...
