Quantum Mechanics And Its Effect On An Extremely Small Level
Megan Griffin
Quantum Mechanics Quantum mechanics is an account of how things rendition on an extremely small
level. Protons, Neutrons, and electrons are not balls of matter, but more like little concentrations of
energy. According to the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, if we look at or measure the position of an
electron, then other crucial information about it is lost. Also, at the moment we observe it, it basically
gives that electron a position and identity in the realm of the natural (Berge). In other words, our
observations can alter the experiment and aid the changes as they explain the results. Quantum
mechanics is just as scientifically provable as Newton physics, but makes less sense to our intuitive
rational minds. (Ford). In science, things we perceive as particles sometimes act like waves. In return,
things we view as waves sometimes act like particles. For example, when people consider electrons
and light, they determine electrons as particles and light as waves. Although this is accurate, under
some circumstances electrons act as a wave or light acts as a particle. In an experiment, if you take
light and shine it on two slits that are close together, each slit acts like it admits its own beam of light.
If a screen is behind it you will see a pattern of dark spots and light spots. You can predict this based
on the fact that light is a wave. If you take the light away and do the same thing with a beam of
electrons, they do the same thing.

Facebook s Influence On Social Networking
An obvious slogan on the homepage to the popular social networking website Facebook is the phrase
Connect with friends and the world you on Facebook (Facebook n.p). The idea of needing social
networking sites to connect with everyone else one knows or may meet has become embedded in
American culture throughout recent years, especially among the teenage population. Facebook is
easily the most popular sites, to the point where it would be considered unusual for someone attending
high school to not have a profile on the site. However, does the Facebook actually create a stronger
connection between people, or does it simply create the illusion of a healthy social life, while really
creating distance a distance between them? According to the Will Reader, a researcher who works at
Sheffield Hallam University in the UK, people generally have five people they would consider their
close friend, in striking contrast to the vast amounts they may have on Facebook (Szumski Karson
26). This finding seems to suggest that one s amount of Facebook reflects how popular one wishes to
appear online more than how healthy one s friendship truly are. Bill Keller, an executive for the
magazine The New York Times, asserts that constant usage of Facebook allows user to potentially feel
like [they] have a meaningful social life, when in reality, [they are missing] something (26). Indeed,
Facebook can function as a placebo for some users in the place of genuine, healthy social life. Users

Midas and Marsyas: Marsyas was a musician who was said to be doing better music than Apollo did.
So, there was a competition whose judge was Midas. Midas favored Marsyas music over Apollo s.
Apollo gave Midas ass ears so that he could hear better and flayed (deriyi yรผzmek) Marsyas. Midas
wanted to tell someone that he had ass ears. He dug a hole and told the hole the story. Anyway the
wind blew and it did not matter to the reeds (sazlฤฑk) who sung about Midas s ass ears.
Hyacintus: He is a handsome friend of Apollo. While they were playing, the discus that Apollo threw

Case Study
As a Learning Assistant, working in Year 3, I worked closely with a seven year old girl who, for the
purpose of this case study, I will call Jane. Jane was a confident and happy girl who, despite not being
particularly academically gifted, always participated with class discussions and activities
enthusiastically.
Half way through the academic year Jane s behaviour and personality seemed to alter drastically. She
became withdrawn and moody and generally seemed genuinely unhappy. Her attendance, which had
been excellent, had also been affected. One day whilst Jane was helping me wash fruit for morning
snack she began to cry. She opened up to me and admitted that two

The Dreams Of Dreams And Dreams
Prologue
Everyone has dreams; it s a known fact. Their dreams are goals in their lives; goals that people would
really like to achieve.
For example: little girls dream about being princesses and fairy tales. Little boys dream about being
knights and rocket ships. Men and women dream about money, and the things they can buy with them,
like homes and cars.
For me, my dream is different. It may have been possible a few years ago. In fact: that s what life was
like, but that was before all of this happened, and the world changed for the worse.
Oh, well. There s no use in dwelling in the past. What s done is done, and the human race can t take it
back. Not just yet, and not without a fight, anyway.
Even though it is big, my dream is not just for me, it s for my friends, and the people living in the
building, even though they don t realize it.
Of course, that was a few years ago, before the average I.Q. went down, and people were relying on
our captors to help us.
My dream is the thought of escape, and freedom. Freedom from this building and freedom from the
rulers who control everyone inside of it is my goal. It may be tough, and it might be hard to do, but it s
possible that my dream will come true.
After all, anything s been possible since I ve got a plan...
Part I

A Comparison Of Materialism In The Women And Mildred Piercee
Two films released amidst the aftermath of the post American Great Depression and World War II, The
Women and Mildred Pierce, both similarly explore the issues surrounding the contemporary form of
materialism that has made itself present in society. The economic boom the war had provided America
gave birth to a new form of ultra consumerism that swept the nation, changing everything in a matter
of years. These films act as social commentaries in such a way that they are able to highlight the
impact materialism has made in the aspects of both the rich and middle class during this span in
American history. George Cukor introduces this as one of his main themes throughout his film The
Women. Using it to act as a key motivating factor for his character Mary Haines, a housewife and
mother seemingly trapped in a marriage with a cheating husband due to the luxurious lifestyle it
provides. Similarly, Michael Curtiz s Mildred Pierce, uses this desire for things such as clothes,
houses, and a generally expensive lifestyle as driving factors for both Mildred Pierce and her daughter,
Veda. Veda Pierce has been raised in a home where she has always received anything she s wanted. As
she grows up we find her desires have amassed to an all time high. So much so that when she learns
her mother won t be able to give her the opulent life she yearns for, she abandons the family; causing
her mother to make conflicting decisions regarding her personal life and attitude towards materialistic
endeavors in hopes of prompting her daughters return. Both of these movies rely heavily on this
common theme to drive the plot as well as build definitive characters. It is important to take into
consideration that in this day and age, women found themselves extensively restricted by societal
norms that standardized their lines of work to underpaid jobs. Censuses completed in 1930 and 1940
state that roughly only 25% of women were employed and only a select handful of those who did held
professional jobs ( Baughman et al. Vol. 4 ). These statistics give us a general idea of how unlikely it is
for a woman to be able to support herself without a husband. In The Women, these conditions cause
Mary Haines to contemplate her decision to

was impossible to avoid all of catastrophes that took place in the past. Actually these incidents
approached today s airport security to perfection. Nowadays there are stringent rules regarding air
travelling. I. History of airports security
The only concern within aviation was the safety of flying. Hardly any thought was put into the
security sector of the aviation industry. This changed when Peruvian revolutionaries took over a Pan
American mail plane. In the period of time from 1930 to 1958, there was 23 hijackings reported. The
first serious incident happened in 1947 when the aircrew member was killed. In 1955, Jack Graham,
placed a bomb in his mother s luggage. The bomb exploded during the flight killing all aboard. A
similar incident took place in 1960, when two suicide bomber killed all people on a board. After these
acts luggage inspection has become more exact. The majority of hijackings were made due to either
escape from the USA or hold people for a ransom. In 1961, in order to prevent hijackings, the federal
government started using armed guards on chosen aircrafts. After hijackings of planes in 1969 the
Task Force on the Deterrence of Air Piracy was established by the Federal Aviation Administration.

The Epic Of Alexander Pope s The Rape Of The Lock
Mock epic is a narrative poem which aims at mockery and laughter by using almost all the
characteristic features of an epic but for a trivial subject. Alexander Pope s The Rape of the Lock is a
famous mock epic. In it, there is invocation to Muses, proposition of subject, battles, supernatural
machinery, journey on water, underworld journey, long speeches, feasts (coffee house), Homeric
similes and grand style but all for a simple family dispute instead of a national struggle. The grand
treatment of a low subject produces hilarious laughter and makes the story more ridiculous.
Firstly, Paradise Lost is a long epic poem by John Milton begins with the proposition of justification
of God s way to man with nice invocation to the Muses. And another epic poem titled The Faerie
Queene by Edmund Spenser follows the same manner. The subject matters in both of the epic poems
are grand. Like the epic poems, the poem The Rape of the Lock opens with the proposition of the
subject matter and Pope s invocation to the Muses to help him compose the literary art. Such a grand
treatment of a trivial subject matter like the clipping of the lock of Belinda provokes laughter when the
poet says:
I sing this verse to Caryll, Muse! Is due:
This, ev n Belinda may vouchsafe to view: Secondly, in The Iliad , Homer describes in considerable
detail the armor and weaponry of the great Achilles, as well as the battlefield trappings of other
heroes. In the poem The Rape of the Lock Pope

Analysis Of Cather s The Rye
First, I believe that cather s overall view is naturalistic. There s a few romatic points of view. The story
also had some realistic points of view. There was a young girl Alexandra. She had a little brother Emil.
It tells us in the beginning that they were walking around and there cat got stuck and a close friend of
Alexandra s help. His name was Carl. The Story later on tells you that time has passed and has had
many different occurrence. The love birds with the secret affair come to an end. The reason developed
when Frank became jealous because Frank Marie s husband, Shot Marie and Email under The

Emil had a kindling love for Marie (Tovesky) Shabata. Eventually they kissed but she was married.
Lou and Oscar got married and have children. Their lives were happy. They had a farm, family, and a
great relationship at least that s what everyone at least thought. The road led southwest, toward the
streak of pale watery light that glimmered in the leaden sky. The light fell upon the two sad young
faces that were turned mutely toward it: upon the eyes of the girl, who seemed to be looking with such
anguished perplexity into the future, upon the somber eyes of the boy, who seemed already to looking
into the past. Like most of their neighbors, they were meant to follow in paths already marked out for
them, not to break trails in a new country. A steady job, a few holidays, nothing to think about, and
they would have been very happy. It was no fault of theirs that they had been dragged into the
wilderness when they were little boys. A pioneer should have imagination, should be able to enjoy the
idea of things more than the things themselves.
Next, Frank Marie s husband shot them both under The White Mulberry Tree for having that affair.

Causes of World War II Essay
Causes of World War II When Hitler came to power in 1933 he made several of actions that some
years later lead to war. These actions were re armament, leaving the league of nations, re militarism of
the Rhineland, the spanish civil war, the lightning war and the alliances with Italy and Japan. Hitler s
aims were clear, he wanted lebensraum (living space) in order to gain self sufficiency, wanted to
abolish the treaty of Versailles and revenge for those who signed it. And some years after he seized
power it was clear he wanted to dominate the whole of Europe and the rest of the world. The Second
World War was caused by Fascist aggression and the failure of democratic powers to stop this ... Show

By 1935 rearmament was well underway. This involved conscription and munitions factories.
Rearmament alarmed the French who, feeling insecure, reinforced the Maginot line (built between
1929 and 1934). This was a line of steel and concrete fortifications stretching from Belgium to
Switzerland, Germany would be able to avoid it and invade France via Belgium. France remained
passive without Britain s support. Britain was sympathetic towards Germany and even signed an
Anglo German naval Treaty (June 1935) allowing Germany s navy to be 35% of the size of the Royal
Navy. Hitler used his new found arms to support Franco in the Spanish Civil War (1936 9) Hitler sent
the Condor Legion of the Luftwaffe to bomb Guernica on 26th April, 1937. Guernica was razed to the
ground and Franco went on to conquer the Basque areas of Spain. Hitler had used Spain as a practice
ground. Having broken the Treaty of Versailles once, Hitler risked doing it a second time by marching
30,000 troops into Rhineland on 7th March 1936. France, with 250,000 troops mobilised, remained
passive because Britain would not support her. To show that his remilitarization was popular, Hitler
held a plebiscite, which showed that 98.8% were

Even the Internet focuses on health a recent Google search revealed over 46,000,000 Web sites related
to the terms nutrition advice. Americans report that they do indeed use the media as a source of
information about nutrition, and that television (72%) and magazines (58%) are relied upon more
often for nutritional guidance than are family and friends (17%). (The American Dietetic Association,
http://www.eatright.org) At the same time, many adults also feel that the media contain information
that is often confusing and contradictory. In one recent study, adults who reported more confusion and
skepticism about nutrition messages in the media also were more likely to eat a fat laden diet.(
Patterson RE, Satia JA, Kristal AR, Neuhouser ML, Drewnowski A, 2001) The authors of the study
speculated that the proliferation of media information may be contributing to a nutrition backlash
among certain subgroups of people. 2. Communication Analysis 2.1 New Campaign Objectives

The Basic Concepts Of Cryptography Essay
Background
Cryptography is known as the method of writing secrets. The secured data and all of information from
any external or internal hacks. Therefore, it provides confidentiality, integrity, authenticity and non
repudiation to secure data. The basic concepts of cryptography will be based on two terms namely
plain text and cipher text. Plain text represents the message generated originally and cipher text is the
message which is the encrypted text. We would decrypt the encrypted cipher text to get our original
message.
Cryptography provides the practitioner with the following services or objectives: Confidentiality is the
method used to have all the data to be accessed by an authorized personnel only and helps keep the
data secure. It even monitors the channel to have all the data transmitted between users over a given
time period between two points and is well protected of the traffic flow and analysis. Integrity is a
method requiring the computer systems components and transmitted data to be capable of changes
only by authorized users. Modification includes writing, changing, changing the status, deleting,
creating, and the delaying or replaying of transmitted messages. It is important to point out that
integrity relates to active attacks and therefore, it is concerned with detection rather than prevention.
Moreover, integrity can be provided with or without recovery, the first option being the more attractive
alternative. Authentication is a service that is

Mission, By Charmaine Warford
Mission
By Charmaine Warford
June 2013
Sending out missionaries to a designated territory where they would preach the Gospel and convert
non Christians. Is this true today?
Before the Sixteenth century mission was used to describe relationships within the holy Trinity. It was
not used to describe an aspect of church life. The word missio in Latin means to send , it was used to
describe the sending of the Son by the Father, and also the sending of the Holy Spirit by the Father
and the Son. 1.
The Jesuits in Latin American in the late Sixteenth and early Seventeenth centuries started to use the
term to describe the spreading of the Christian faith among the heathen of that continent and,
subsequently, of the spreading of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3. Barth s insight into the nature of mission came about at one of the lowest points of the Twentieth
Century when the Nazis were about to come to power. At that time Barth was teaching in Germany
and knew very well what the rise of the Nazis meant for Europe.
After the war, in 1952, when the churches were once again contemplating a renewal of mission at the
Willingen Conference of the International Missionary Council in 1952, Barth s influence took hold
and his insight was expressed and developed in the conference resolution. It makes an explicit and
important connection between church missionary work and the nature of God as Trinity:
The missionary movement of which we are a part has its source in the Triune God himself. Out of the
depths of his love for us, the Father has sent forth his own beloved Son to reconcile all things to
himself. We who have been chosen in Christ are committed to full participation in his redeeming
mission. There is no participation in Christ without participation in his mission to the world. That by
which the Church receives its existence is that by which it is also given its world mission. 4.
This was a highly significant moment in the genealogy of the word mission because it was

Students Low Enthusiasm And Attitudes Of Research Methods
Stansbury and Munro (2013) and Ciarocco, Lewandowski and Volkom (2013) conducted two different
studies after observing students low enthusiasm and attitudes of research methods, a course that is
often seen as the hardest and most important class for a psychology undergraduate. In response to this,
both researchers decided to create hands on approaches for teaching research methods in an effort to
promote student engagement in the classroom. Both studies are structured around the understanding
that when students are engaged in conducting research, their appreciation of the material will increase,
and so will the comprehension of the material at hand. Additionally, the two were studies
fundamentally unable to use random assignment to conditions considering the inevitable negative
affects it would have on the students initial feelings of the class. In order to collect data, Ciarocco et
al. used seven point Likert scales to assess attitudes, whereas Stansbury and Munro gathered data by
using a multi question pretest/posttest to assess content knowledge. Experimental conditions where
constructed differently as well, Ciarocco et al. used multifaceted approach to teach five different
experimental designs expanding over the whole semester, and Stansbury and Munro focused on
teaching students to conduct factorial design research only, through the use of video games. Although,
both studies were designed and conducted moderately well, Stansbury and Munro was more effective

Alternative Energy Solutions For Renewable Energy
With the ever increasing demand of fossil fuels, society has been faced with the problem of a quickly
diminishing supply. We are scrambling for solutions in underdeveloped technology and overlooked
industry. There is much debate on whether any alternative energy solutions are able to effectively
replace fossil fuels. Even if they are, we are then faced with the problem of how renewable energy
programs could be implemented and improved. There are many aspects of this debate to consider,
including energy demand, financial support, and ecological factors. The push for alternative energies
is essential and the need is eminent, therefore government subsidization should be made a greater
priority in our nation. Over millions of years the fossilized remains of plants and animals have
decayed and been stored in the form of petroleum, natural gas, or coal underground for our later
extraction. This stored energy can then be burned to use as fuel (DOE 2008). Because these fuels take
millions of years to form, the available supply is limited for our ever progressing industrial society.
Our usage is causing a lot of concern among the energy conscious all over the world due to the fact
that many developed nations could not function without fossil fuels. The main solution to this problem
goes by the name of alternative , renewable , or clean energy. This energy comes from sources apart
from fossil fuels, this includes wind, solar, and geothermal among others (Utah 2013). These

The Orange Trees By Gustave Caillebotte
The first artwork made by Gustave Caillebotte is called The Orange Trees, the painting was measured
to be 61 by 46 inches and the creation was made with oil on canvas. It was launched in 1878 and is
currently held at the Aubrey Jones Beck Building. The second artwork created by Paul Ranson is
called the Apple Tree with Red fruit, the painting was measured to be 33 ยฝ by 46 ยพ inches and the
frame was measured 41 ยฝ by 55 ยผ inches. Just like Caillebotte created The Orange Trees, it was
created with oil on canvas. The artwork was launched c. 1902 and is also currently kept at the Aubrey
Jones Beck Building. Caillebotte s artwork represents the relaxation in Paris, in a garden at the family
villa. He painted his brother Martial, in a straw hat and purple slippers, and their young cousin Zoรซ,
dressed in striped chiffon and red boots to show a sense of fashionable leisure. (MFAH). The style of
the painting is impressionism because the artwork shows the recreation of the view that the artist was
trying to give an impression of. Martial, Caillebotte s brother is sitting on a chair and appears to be
larger than Zoรซ to emphasize that he would be closer to us in the view of the artwork. Caillebotte s
also uses curved lines to create the base of the table and chairs. The Orange Trees artwork is definitely
representational because it shows that they are supposed to represent actual objects. The artwork to me
appears to be asymmetrical due to everything mainly being on the left side of

A Research on Team and Group Communication Processes
Team and Group Communication Processes:
The systematic description on the nature of the processes of communication in several areas including
businesses and organizations is known as communication theory. Organizations and businesses are
required to understand the concept of communication theory because the achievement of
organizational and business goals is dependent on effective communication. Communication theory
focuses on examining the process of transmitting information from the sender to the receiver.
Furthermore, communication theory analyzed the various means for transfer of information from one
medium to the other. As people across the globe have been working with several communication
theories, these theories provide an abstract understanding of the process of communication.
A theoretical explanation of communication processes is usually provided when professionals across
various fields talk about their communication strategies, types, and effectiveness (Dainton, 2004). In
the healthcare sector, primary health care team members and other caregivers or service providers are
usually required to communicate effectively with one another in order to enhance the quality of
service. This is largely because there is a direct relationship between communication and team or
group effectiveness.

teamwork, groups or teams work more effectively when all members actively

Persuasive Essay Against Animal Testing
Imagine an animal locked in a dark cage, alone without food or water, with a deadly disease infecting
its body, having to watch other animals being experimented on. These animals have zero control of
what is about to happen, and they will never know if today is their last day. This is the situation that
happens when animals are the subject of tests. Many of these animals are suffering with diseases and
possibly growing tumors the size of their bodies. Worldwide, 24 animals die every minute in
laboratories. Every year, 100 million animals die from such test.
These tests are unethical, unnecessary, and is bad science. Mice, fish, rabbits, rats, guinea pigs,
hamsters, farm animals, birds, cats, and dogs are just a few of the animals that are being tested on.
Many of these animals become blind after tests that consist of eyeliner, hand soap, food ingredients,

The United States of America allows laboratories to test on animals. Many times testing includes but

drugs. Animal testing is very ineffective due to animals not getting the same diseases as humans. Also,
the testing leaves permanent damage to the animals. Blindness, burning skin, and brain damage are

Teen People Magazine Essay
Teen People Magazine
The Teen People, September edition, is a magazine designed to appeal to young female readers. Its
content features well known celebrities, use of bright and flashy colors, and an organized layout that
attracts an upbeat, young readership interested in high quality appearance and style. Although the
magazine s main focus may appear to insure a great fashion sense, it also concentrates on a
philosophical orientation by covering a more diverse readership that includes all colors, sizes, and
shapes of females. Teen People also expands its audience by recognizing both visual and text oriented
audiences. To appeal to the more visual oriented audience, the magazine uses exotic photography in

Similarly, the advertisement on page sixty four of the magazine uses an angelic/fairy tale theme to
introduce Secret Deodorant to the visually stimulated audience. In the center of the page, a fairy like
woman stands in the midst of a very surreal setting with stars and a light blue sky. By using a woman
who personifies a fairy, Secret manages to connect the new brand of Secret Violet Dazzle with a
mystical theme. The bright hues of purple and the naturalistic atmosphere, once again, attract very
young viewers to the product. Secret pictures a frail, flawless female to suggest that varying types of
women may use their product and still resemble the pure and enchanting image. Thus, they
incorporate the text When you re strong, you Sparkle, to show that by using their product, one can
eliminate the fear of smelling and sparkle with confidence. The advertisement itself is very striking to
the human eye. It s busy layout and choice in colors captivates those who enjoy striking photography.
Unlike the Self Esteem and Secret Deodorant advertisements, which project a flirtatious and heavenly
attitude, Ralph Lauren s advertisement for the new scented hair collection portrays a model with a
sexually suggestive attitude. Ralph Lauren, a clothing line known for its natural yet sexy look, attracts
young females with the desire to be well known. Although the photography appears rather simple and
plain, the readers

The Debate Surrounding Universalism And Cultural Relativism
1 Discuss the pitfalls of the debate surrounding universalism and cultural relativism. Which seems to
be stronger in Law and in Humanities and the Social Sciences. You can give some of your personal
experiences if you wish.
Answer:
Cultural relativism is the perspective according to which every culture has its norms, standards,
values, traditions, culture and custom. No culture is superior to any other culture. In this way, the
entire moral codes of the world going to be grounded because everyone seems to behave according to
their cultures. According to the cultural relativist approach, culture is an exclusive source of the
legitimacy of a moral rule and right. On the other hand, Universalism proposed that an entire world is
belong to one culture that is why culture or society is irrelevant to the legitimacy of moral rules and
rights (Arat, 2006).
According to the proponents of the postmodernism and feminism, there is also some distinctions in the
basis of the relativism. They strongly condemn the discrimination in the society on the basis of race
and ethnicity. They contend that subjective relativism is more superior to the cultural relativism.
According to this perspective, life has more value than any other cultural norms of the society. Since,
society become more progressive and developed if there is more value of life than anything else.

obligations are not correlative to

Logical Fallacy Examples
The three logical fallacies I chose to discuss are ad hominem, bandwagon, and stacking the deck. I
chose these three based off examples I could think of that have been placed boldly in my face. The
first logical fallacy listed, ad hominem, which in Latin means, to a man, is something that our current
President has been noted as doing a lot of during his campaign for election. Whether the argument
against him was logical or not he has been labeled as an aggressive counter puncher with his use of
this logical fallacy. An example of this would be when he posted on Twitter And this is the bimbo that
s asking presidential questions? referring to then Fox News Anchor Megyn Kelly. Along with the
statement was a meme with photos of her where she had posed for GQ Magazine in 2010. His reason
for doing this was fueled from a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To assume that something is correct because of popular opinion allows those with influence to
manipulate our way of thinking if we do not do our own research. Over the past month, a huge
argument between the President and the media has been about how many people were at the
inauguration speech of President Obama in comparison to how many were at President Trump s. It is
as if both sides are trying to say who is right by saying who had more people. To think that one
President is better because one had more support at the inauguration speech is ridiculous yet the
argument received plenty of air time on both sides of the media and garnished a lot of attention from
the White House. Apparently, this is a very important argument to be won though by the amount of
attention it has received. Those are my three examples of logical fallacies. I chose them because as I
thought about the selection given to us, those three were the ones that stood out in my mind the most
as being used in politics. Seems kind of ridiculous that all three are being used. Not just being used,
but being used

The word culture has been commonly used in the current society. However, it is worth noting its true
definition. Biagetti Lugli (2014) asserts that if one made an inquiry of its meaning from
anthropologists whose sole responsibility is studying culture, then it is common knowledge that he
would receive a variety of answers from them. Despite the different definitions, most of them put
emphasis on same aspects. For this discussion, therefore, the definition of culture will be given. Also,
the article will provide its five primary characteristics, and the overview of the physical geography,
military conflict and its impact on Turkish society. The definition of culture that will be used is that it

This followed the failure of a two year process of achieving peace in the countries. The failure
stemmed from the increasing tensions that have been witnessed along the Syrian borders through the
high influx of refugees coming into Turkey (Orhan, 2014, p. 33). The conflict has massively impacted
this society because of the destabilizations that have been caused. Provision of services has been
massively affected. The refugees have put a strain on the available services. The levels of education in
the country have also been affected. It is because the conflict interferes with the uptake of knowledge
and sometimes even driving school going people away.
Conclusion
The article above has discussed the concept of culture. It has mentioned its five primary characteristics
encompassing the concepts of learning, sharing, integration, dynamism and symbolism. Besides,
common features of culture have been put into perspective. The similar aspects here encompass
purpose and mission, values and principles, rites of initiation, and history and traditions. The last issue

Foreshadowing is a common technique used in stories, whether it is fiction or nonfiction. In the story,
Death by Scrabble, the author makes it that for every word played in the game, the word, in a way,

what her husband is planning when she plays CAUTION as one of her words. When Fish writes about

then I could play MURDER (Fish 1). This leads us, the readers, to believe that the husband wants to

The workshop started by introducing about myself and students on my adjacent sides [left and right].
The arrangement of the seating was different from normal lecture which was circular so that a single
student can see all in the circle group. This arrangement looked professional and developed
enthusiasm.
Certain small activities were put forth between pairs of students which in turn made us to learn and
understand the skills that we need to possess as managers and students.
Students were grouped into three consisting five to seven students, called Community of Practice.
Each group was given an organization setting to make with dumpty manager and irresponsible staff.
This setting of each group was observed and made us learn the worst managerial methods.
The main aim of workshop 1 was to understand what is reflective learning and how to use it in both
personal and professional development. I felt that being reflective is very important in management as
it helps in analyzing the situation and decision making.
Workshop 2:

The Pros And Cons Of The Pharmaceutical Industry
Nowadays it seems like legal drugs are more expensive than illegal ones. This dilemma occurs
because the pharmaceutical industry affects the economy significantly. Although the United States is a
mixed market economy, there are instances where the economy seems like a free market economy. A
free market economy allows companies to determine the prices of goods free from government
intervention. The pharmaceutical industry, despite several regulations set by the Food and Drug
Administration (FDA), is a free market economy. Meaning, the pharmaceutical sector lacks
government regulation and has control over the prices of specialty drugs desperately needed by the
public. Therefore, the pharmaceutical industry being a free market negatively affects ... Show more

According to Paul Antony, DTCA aids consumers because it helps them recognize symptoms and their
increases communication between doctors and patients. He states that consumers that advertisements
empower them to seek out their doctor (para 3,10). However, advertisements are often emotional and
misleading. This type of advertisements causes patients to urge their doctors to prescribe them a
specialty drug because they notice they have a symptom. Doctors then would have to comply which
can end up being more harmful to the patient. Another argument is that pharmaceuticals make little
profit because new drugs cost so much to develop. Derek Lowe, a chemist, states that Expenses [are]
doing nothing but rising, and the success rate for drug discovery [is] going in the other direction (para
5). By his quote, Lowe means that the development of a drug outweighs the cost of the drug, resulting
in little profit. However, this case is on drugs that failed in the market. Drugs that are long past
development have the prices gouged for more profit. Therefore the government should regulate the
pharmaceutical industry because the industry is harmful towards the economy and patients. The
government can achieve this by enabling a cap on prices of specialty drugs and ensuring DCTA is not

Piracy on International Waters and on the Coast of Somalia
Most people do not know this but piracy on international waters and on the coast of Somalia has
become an increasingly important issue to global businesses. Since most people are unaware of this
growing problem it has just now been noticed. To help stop piracy most crews are encouraged to have
trained officers aboard while shipping cargo to avoid attacks by pirates. 95 percent of the piracy on
international waters is by somali pirates. That s right 95 percent. Piracy is robbery/stealing at sea. Not
a lot of people are aware that piracy occurs almost everyday.
When pirates come aboard ships they rarely are looking to kill anyone, they steal cargo and money.
Piracy in Somalia is mostly caused because of money seekers that have threatened their families if the
pirates do not do what they ask. Since we have weak laws on piracy there is more of a chance that the
likelihood of piracy happening is way higher than ever. Somalia has a big coastline 3,025 km to be
exact, this is one of the reasons why it is very common to see a lot of piracy events happen close to
Somalia. The other reason is because a lot of big shipping ports come through the Arabian sea.
Just recently there was a movie made named Captain Phillips. The movie had to do with Somali
pirates and an american captain and his crew. The captain named Richard Phillips was taken hostage
by a Somali pirate captain and his crew which had three other people. At the end the captain ends up

Tics can range from an eye twitch to vocalization such as coprolalia, which is when someone

harder to distinguish because they are slight movements such as eye twitching and blinking, shoulder

motor tics may seem purposeful such as hopping and jumping around or touching and picking up

Germany s Tourism As An American Citizen
Many Americans have common misconceptions about Germany and its people even before visiting the
country or getting to know a German national. Germans are often perceived to be cold or mean and
that they dislike tourists. Many also believe that the language sounds harsh or is unromantic and all
Germans consume is sauerkraut, sausage, and beer. These views could be largely due to the way
Hollywood paints Germans out to be and American views on holidays such as Oktoberfest. As a
German as well as an American citizen, I have heard many of these stereotypes and can confidently
refute these claims and say that Germany and its people are actually very friendly and have a rich and
diverse culture.
Germany s tourism is on the rise as described in a report in a marketline industry profile. It describes
that the travel and tourism industry grew in 2015 by 3.3% and is projected to maintain a similar

people who are touring Germany. A study done in 2013 by Andrew Hare and collegues was aimed to

These congruities of blood, speech, custom, and so on, are seen to have an ineffable, and at times
overpowering, coerciveness in and of themselves. One is bound to one s kinsman, one s neighbor, one
s fellow believer, ipso facto; as a result not merely of personal affection, practical necessity, common
interest, or incurred obligation but at least in great part by virtue of some unaccountable absolute
import attributed to the very tie itself. The general strength of such primordial bonds, and the types of
them that are important, differ from person to person, from society to society, and from time to time.
But for virtually every person, in every society, at almost all times, some attachments seem to flow
more from a sense of natural some would say spiritual affinity than from social interaction. The
cultural primordialist is easier to accept in today s modern world. For primordialists, ethnic bonds and
hatreds are fundamental to one s identity, meaning that conflicts between ethnic groups are inevitable.
Conflicts will by definition be extremely brutal and violent because there is no room for compromise
on one s spiritual ties and cultural beliefs.

Wilfred Life Of Wilfred Owen
Wilfred Owen Poetry
Wilfred Edward Salter Owen was an English poet and soldier, whose renowned compositions were
distinguished in their delivery of a tenacious condemnation of the First World War. Born, 18 March
1893 in Oswestry, Shropshire, Owen commenced his poetic endeavours through his adolescence, and
after having completed his schooling, soon became a teaching assistant and aspired for vocational
pursuits. However, these were soon disparaged with the eminence of the Fist World War, and in 1915,
he eventually returned to England, where he enlisted in the Artists Rifles Officers Training Corps. On
January 1917, Wilfred Owen left for the Western Front, where his imaginative existence was
drastically changed after involvement within numerous traumatic experiences. Soon afterwards, Owen
was diagnosed as suffering from neurasthenia, and he was subsequently evacuated to England and
arrived at Craiglockhart War Hospital, where he became acquainted with the poet Siegfried Sassoon,
who shared many of his views and revolutionised Owen s style and conception of poetry. He returned
to France in August 1918 and in October was awarded the Military Cross for bravery, yet, shortly
after; on 4 November 1918 Wilfred Owen was killed upon crossing the Sambre Oise Canal. Wilfred
Owen s most renowned compositions include: Anthem for Doomed Youth, Dulce et Decorum est and
Futility, each of which transgress barriers in delivering a harrowing condemnation of War.

Pholx Noctunix Research Paper
Pholx noctunix grows in the tundra ecosystem. The only biotic factor that impacts Pholx noctunix is
the caterpillars that like to feed on its leaves, this has caused it to adapt by developing thorns along the
stem to prevent caterpillars from being able to reach the leaves. The majority of the factors that affect
plants that grow in the tundra are abiotic, including:
Fluctuating temperatures, with an average winter temperature of 34หšC and average summer
temperatures of between 3 12หšC (Ucmp.berkeley.edu, 2004).
Fluctuating light intensity. During winter, a layer of snow covers the ground, causing less light to

The Consumer Culture Final Project
Consumer Culture Final Project
This semester having to track all of my buying has been very helpful and eye opening. I was able to
break down all of my buying into 8 categories; clothes, food (groceries), food (restaurants),
entertainment, gas, gym, miscellaneous, and school. I was able to conclude that most of my purchases
were paid with a debit card with the exception of my school payments. Most of my purchases were in
store with the exception of a few purchases online. The majority of my purchases were wants and not
necessities, and after doing this project throughout the semester I have a lot of unnecessary buying.
This paper is a reflection of all of my buying.
This graph is a visual of the overall amount spent through the semester. Looking at the entire semester
I spent a total of $5,668. I spent $308 on clothes in store and online, $459 on food in the grocery store,
$562 on food in multiple restaurants and fast food, $1,049 on entertainment like my vacation and
movies, $340 on gas, $177 on the gym, $123 on miscellaneous items from CVS or 7 eleven, and
$2,650 on school tuition. The overall amount surprised me because I did not even think I earned this
much in the semester. It makes me very uncomfortable because there is a lot of money spent on
unnecessary things. For example, I spent $562 on food from restaurants. This is so highly unnecessary
because I also spent $459 on groceries. The category where I spent the most money was school
tuition, which is expected.

What Is The Theme Of The Book Thief
The Book Thief , by Markus Zusak, is a beautiful and astounding novel that brings together the
themes of love and mortality through war and suffering. I had been completely moved by Liesel
Meminger s, the protagonist s, coming of age story and unable to put the book down once I began to
read.
The story is set in 1939, Nazi Germany; begins shortly before the First World War.
Liesel Meminger, a 9 year old foster child, lives with Hans and Rosa Hubermann in the small town of
Molching. Throughout the story, she becomes literate under the guidance of Hans, befriends a
neighbourhood boy Rudy Steiner and also assists Hans in hiding his Jewish friend, Max Vandenberg,
in their basement from the Jewish genocide. As the story progresses, Liesel begins to lose hope and
happiness because all her friends have left her. Hans had been drafted into the military, Rudy had been
recruited to a special athletics school by the Nazis and Max sent to a concentration camp in Dachau.
She also grew hatred for Adolf Hitler as she believed that his propaganda was to blame for the
Holocaust and many innocent deaths including her biological family. It is Ilsa Hermann, the mayor s
wife, who invites Liesel to read in her library and continue to learn to read and write. Given a blank
book from Ilsa, she begins to write a biography of her life with the Hubermann s in her basement
named The Book Thief . During the process, Liesel survived a bombing attack that killed all her loved
ones. Despite the trauma of deaths, Liesel lived a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The novel is narrated in first person by Death. Throughout The Book Thief, Death comments and
shares his thoughts on Liesel s book, The Book Thief , in which the story ends with Death returning
Liesel s book back to her. The majority of people associate death with violence and destruction, as do
I, yet the narrator corrected our common misconception of death at the beginning of the novel for;

  • 2. Quantum Mechanics And Its Effect On An Extremely Small Level Megan Griffin Quantum Mechanics Quantum mechanics is an account of how things rendition on an extremely small level. Protons, Neutrons, and electrons are not balls of matter, but more like little concentrations of energy. According to the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, if we look at or measure the position of an electron, then other crucial information about it is lost. Also, at the moment we observe it, it basically gives that electron a position and identity in the realm of the natural (Berge). In other words, our observations can alter the experiment and aid the changes as they explain the results. Quantum mechanics is just as scientifically provable as Newton physics, but makes less sense to our intuitive rational minds. (Ford). In science, things we perceive as particles sometimes act like waves. In return, things we view as waves sometimes act like particles. For example, when people consider electrons and light, they determine electrons as particles and light as waves. Although this is accurate, under some circumstances electrons act as a wave or light acts as a particle. In an experiment, if you take light and shine it on two slits that are close together, each slit acts like it admits its own beam of light. If a screen is behind it you will see a pattern of dark spots and light spots. You can predict this based on the fact that light is a wave. If you take the light away and do the same thing with a beam of electrons, they do the same thing. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Facebook s Influence On Social Networking An obvious slogan on the homepage to the popular social networking website Facebook is the phrase Connect with friends and the world you on Facebook (Facebook n.p). The idea of needing social networking sites to connect with everyone else one knows or may meet has become embedded in American culture throughout recent years, especially among the teenage population. Facebook is easily the most popular sites, to the point where it would be considered unusual for someone attending high school to not have a profile on the site. However, does the Facebook actually create a stronger connection between people, or does it simply create the illusion of a healthy social life, while really creating distance a distance between them? According to the Will Reader, a researcher who works at Sheffield Hallam University in the UK, people generally have five people they would consider their close friend, in striking contrast to the vast amounts they may have on Facebook (Szumski Karson 26). This finding seems to suggest that one s amount of Facebook reflects how popular one wishes to appear online more than how healthy one s friendship truly are. Bill Keller, an executive for the magazine The New York Times, asserts that constant usage of Facebook allows user to potentially feel like [they] have a meaningful social life, when in reality, [they are missing] something (26). Indeed, Facebook can function as a placebo for some users in the place of genuine, healthy social life. Users with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example: little girls dream about being princesses and fairy tales. Little boys dream about being knights and rocket ships. Men and women dream about money, and the things they can buy with them, like homes and cars. For me, my dream is different. It may have been possible a few years ago. In fact: that s what life was like, but that was before all of this happened, and the world changed for the worse. Oh, well. There s no use in dwelling in the past. What s done is done, and the human race can t take it back. Not just yet, and not without a fight, anyway. Even though it is big, my dream is not just for me, it s for my friends, and the people living in the building, even though they don t realize it. Of course, that was a few years ago, before the average I.Q. went down, and people were relying on our captors to help us. My dream is the thought of escape, and freedom. Freedom from this building and freedom from the rulers who control everyone inside of it is my goal. It may be tough, and it might be hard to do, but it s possible that my dream will come true. After all, anything s been possible since I ve got a plan... Part I (5:47:13 P.M.) (May 16) I ve got a plan. • 8. A Comparison Of Materialism In The Women And Mildred Piercee Two films released amidst the aftermath of the post American Great Depression and World War II, The Women and Mildred Pierce, both similarly explore the issues surrounding the contemporary form of materialism that has made itself present in society. The economic boom the war had provided America gave birth to a new form of ultra consumerism that swept the nation, changing everything in a matter of years. These films act as social commentaries in such a way that they are able to highlight the impact materialism has made in the aspects of both the rich and middle class during this span in American history. George Cukor introduces this as one of his main themes throughout his film The Women. Using it to act as a key motivating factor for his character Mary Haines, a housewife and mother seemingly trapped in a marriage with a cheating husband due to the luxurious lifestyle it provides. Similarly, Michael Curtiz s Mildred Pierce, uses this desire for things such as clothes, houses, and a generally expensive lifestyle as driving factors for both Mildred Pierce and her daughter, Veda. Veda Pierce has been raised in a home where she has always received anything she s wanted. As she grows up we find her desires have amassed to an all time high. So much so that when she learns her mother won t be able to give her the opulent life she yearns for, she abandons the family; causing her mother to make conflicting decisions regarding her personal life and attitude towards materialistic endeavors in hopes of prompting her daughters return. Both of these movies rely heavily on this common theme to drive the plot as well as build definitive characters. It is important to take into consideration that in this day and age, women found themselves extensively restricted by societal norms that standardized their lines of work to underpaid jobs. Censuses completed in 1930 and 1940 state that roughly only 25% of women were employed and only a select handful of those who did held professional jobs ( Baughman et al. Vol. 4 ). These statistics give us a general idea of how unlikely it is for a woman to be able to support herself without a husband. • 10. The Epic Of Alexander Pope s The Rape Of The Lock Mock epic is a narrative poem which aims at mockery and laughter by using almost all the characteristic features of an epic but for a trivial subject. Alexander Pope s The Rape of the Lock is a famous mock epic. In it, there is invocation to Muses, proposition of subject, battles, supernatural machinery, journey on water, underworld journey, long speeches, feasts (coffee house), Homeric similes and grand style but all for a simple family dispute instead of a national struggle. The grand treatment of a low subject produces hilarious laughter and makes the story more ridiculous. Firstly, Paradise Lost is a long epic poem by John Milton begins with the proposition of justification of God s way to man with nice invocation to the Muses. And another epic poem titled The Faerie Queene by Edmund Spenser follows the same manner. The subject matters in both of the epic poems are grand. Like the epic poems, the poem The Rape of the Lock opens with the proposition of the subject matter and Pope s invocation to the Muses to help him compose the literary art. Such a grand treatment of a trivial subject matter like the clipping of the lock of Belinda provokes laughter when the poet says: I sing this verse to Caryll, Muse! Therefore, it provides confidentiality, integrity, authenticity and non repudiation to secure data. The basic concepts of cryptography will be based on two terms namely plain text and cipher text. Plain text represents the message generated originally and cipher text is the message which is the encrypted text. We would decrypt the encrypted cipher text to get our original message. Cryptography provides the practitioner with the following services or objectives: Confidentiality is the method used to have all the data to be accessed by an authorized personnel only and helps keep the data secure. It even monitors the channel to have all the data transmitted between users over a given time period between two points and is well protected of the traffic flow and analysis. Integrity is a method requiring the computer systems components and transmitted data to be capable of changes only by authorized users. Modification includes writing, changing, changing the status, deleting, creating, and the delaying or replaying of transmitted messages. We are scrambling for solutions in underdeveloped technology and overlooked industry. There is much debate on whether any alternative energy solutions are able to effectively replace fossil fuels. Even if they are, we are then faced with the problem of how renewable energy programs could be implemented and improved. There are many aspects of this debate to consider, including energy demand, financial support, and ecological factors. The push for alternative energies is essential and the need is eminent, therefore government subsidization should be made a greater priority in our nation. Over millions of years the fossilized remains of plants and animals have decayed and been stored in the form of petroleum, natural gas, or coal underground for our later extraction. This stored energy can then be burned to use as fuel (DOE 2008). Because these fuels take millions of years to form, the available supply is limited for our ever progressing industrial society. Our usage is causing a lot of concern among the energy conscious all over the world due to the fact that many developed nations could not function without fossil fuels. Communication theory focuses on examining the process of transmitting information from the sender to the receiver. Furthermore, communication theory analyzed the various means for transfer of information from one medium to the other. As people across the globe have been working with several communication theories, these theories provide an abstract understanding of the process of communication. A theoretical explanation of communication processes is usually provided when professionals across various fields talk about their communication strategies, types, and effectiveness (Dainton, 2004). In the healthcare sector, primary health care team members and other caregivers or service providers are usually required to communicate effectively with one another in order to enhance the quality of service. These animals have zero control of what is about to happen, and they will never know if today is their last day. This is the situation that happens when animals are the subject of tests. Many of these animals are suffering with diseases and possibly growing tumors the size of their bodies. Worldwide, 24 animals die every minute in laboratories. Every year, 100 million animals die from such test. These tests are unethical, unnecessary, and is bad science. Mice, fish, rabbits, rats, guinea pigs, hamsters, farm animals, birds, cats, and dogs are just a few of the animals that are being tested on. Many of these animals become blind after tests that consist of eyeliner, hand soap, food ingredients, and medicines. These animals are dying inhumanely, and it needs to stop. • 25. The Debate Surrounding Universalism And Cultural Relativism 1 Discuss the pitfalls of the debate surrounding universalism and cultural relativism. Which seems to be stronger in Law and in Humanities and the Social Sciences. You can give some of your personal experiences if you wish. Answer: Cultural relativism is the perspective according to which every culture has its norms, standards, values, traditions, culture and custom. No culture is superior to any other culture. In this way, the entire moral codes of the world going to be grounded because everyone seems to behave according to their cultures. According to the cultural relativist approach, culture is an exclusive source of the legitimacy of a moral rule and right. On the other hand, Universalism proposed that an entire world is belong to one culture that is why culture or society is irrelevant to the legitimacy of moral rules and rights (Arat, 2006). According to the proponents of the postmodernism and feminism, there is also some distinctions in the basis of the relativism. They strongly condemn the discrimination in the society on the basis of race and ethnicity. They contend that subjective relativism is more superior to the cultural relativism. According to this perspective, life has more value than any other cultural norms of the society. Since, society become more progressive and developed if there is more value of life than anything else. I chose these three based off examples I could think of that have been placed boldly in my face. The first logical fallacy listed, ad hominem, which in Latin means, to a man, is something that our current President has been noted as doing a lot of during his campaign for election. Whether the argument against him was logical or not he has been labeled as an aggressive counter puncher with his use of this logical fallacy. An example of this would be when he posted on Twitter And this is the bimbo that s asking presidential questions? referring to then Fox News Anchor Megyn Kelly. Over the past month, a huge argument between the President and the media has been about how many people were at the inauguration speech of President Obama in comparison to how many were at President Trump s. It is as if both sides are trying to say who is right by saying who had more people. To think that one President is better because one had more support at the inauguration speech is ridiculous yet the argument received plenty of air time on both sides of the media and garnished a lot of attention from the White House. Apparently, this is a very important argument to be won though by the amount of attention it has received. Those are my three examples of logical fallacies. Foreshadowing is a common technique used in stories, whether it is fiction or nonfiction. He states that consumers that advertisements empower them to seek out their doctor (para 3,10). However, advertisements are often emotional and misleading. This type of advertisements causes patients to urge their doctors to prescribe them a specialty drug because they notice they have a symptom. Doctors then would have to comply which can end up being more harmful to the patient. Another argument is that pharmaceuticals make little profit because new drugs cost so much to develop. Derek Lowe, a chemist, states that Expenses [are] doing nothing but rising, and the success rate for drug discovery [is] going in the other direction (para 5). By his quote, Lowe means that the development of a drug outweighs the cost of the drug, resulting in little profit. However, this case is on drugs that failed in the market. That s right 95 percent. Piracy is robbery/stealing at sea. Not a lot of people are aware that piracy occurs almost everyday. I was able to conclude that most of my purchases were paid with a debit card with the exception of my school payments. Most of my purchases were in store with the exception of a few purchases online. The majority of my purchases were wants and not necessities, and after doing this project throughout the semester I have a lot of unnecessary buying. This paper is a reflection of all of my buying. This graph is a visual of the overall amount spent through the semester. Looking at the entire semester I spent a total of $5,668. I spent $308 on clothes in store and online, $459 on food in the grocery store, $562 on food in multiple restaurants and fast food, $1,049 on entertainment like my vacation and movies, $340 on gas, $177 on the gym, $123 on miscellaneous items from CVS or 7 eleven, and $2,650 on school tuition. The overall amount surprised me because I did not even think I earned this much in the semester. It makes me very uncomfortable because there is a lot of money spent on unnecessary things. For example, I spent $562 on food from restaurants. This is so highly unnecessary because I also spent $459 on groceries. The category where I spent the most money was school tuition, which is expected. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The story is set in 1939, Nazi Germany; begins shortly before the First World War. Liesel Meminger, a 9 year old foster child, lives with Hans and Rosa Hubermann in the small town of Molching. Throughout the story, she becomes literate under the guidance of Hans, befriends a neighbourhood boy Rudy Steiner and also assists Hans in hiding his Jewish friend, Max Vandenberg, in their basement from the Jewish genocide. As the story progresses, Liesel begins to lose hope and happiness because all her friends have left her. Hans had been drafted into the military, Rudy had been recruited to a special athletics school by the Nazis and Max sent to a concentration camp in Dachau. She also grew hatred for Adolf Hitler as she believed that his propaganda was to blame for the Holocaust and many innocent deaths including her biological family. It is Ilsa Hermann, the mayor s wife, who invites Liesel to read in her library and continue to learn to read and write. Given a blank book from Ilsa, she begins to write a biography of her life with the Hubermann s in her basement named The Book Thief . During the process, Liesel survived a bombing attack that killed all her loved ones. Despite the trauma of deaths, Liesel lived a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
