Analysis Of Harvey Norman s Net Profit Margin Essay
In the Table __ and Fig __, you can see how the company has been performing. The overall
profitability of the company has increased. Profitability ratios have increased since 2010. In particular,
Harvey Norman s Gross Profit Margin saw a significant growth, it grew 44.7% since 2010. Operating
Profit Margin saw a similar result, finishing with a ratio of 10.5 in Financial Year 2015. Harvey
Norman s Net Profit Margin (when positive), have been at best maximum and are further illustrative
of the paper thin margins typically associated with the retail sector. Investments of Return on Assets
(ROA) and Return on Equity (ROE) were also substantial, comparing 2010 and 2015 there was a
relative decrease in ROA and ROE which doesn t make much of a difference if the Gross Profit
Margin has a strong game. Thus, on the basis of the financial results over the last 6 years, shareholders
would definitely be confident about investing in Harvey Norman, unless there is a decline in current
asset and equity returns.
Harvey Norman Activity ratios are shown in Table __ and Fig __. The only year when Harvey Noman
had its maximum inventory turnover was in the Financial year 2010. There was not much of a
difference between the Financial Years 2010 and 2015 as the Average Collection Period, Accounts
Receivable Ratio, Fixed Assets Turnover and Total Asset were fluctuating (it increased as well as
decreased simultaneously). This increase in turnover is reflective of both a recent increase in

Essay on Reading, Writing and Literacy
I wouldn t say that I am a good writer, and I really don t like to read books either. Through my years in
school I became literate in these two categories. I was and still am not interested in writing, or reading
books in my spare time. The only writing I have ever done is for school. Writing just does not interest
me, and the only reading I do out of class is reading about sports in magazines, or reading the news, or
looking at web pages. I have only read a couple of books on my own, 95% of all the books I have read
have been for school. The reason for not writing out of class is probably attributed to the fact that I am
a very impatient person, and I have a short attention span. I have no interest in writing and reading so

The way it helps me out is if I m starting to get bored typing a paper I don t have to leave the
computer I could go on the internet and look at ESPN for a couple of minutes and after I check out last
nights scores I can go back to writing my paper. Because of my computer literacy there are a
numerous amount of things I know I can do on a computer like listen to music, get on the internet,
check e mail, watch a movie, talk to a friend, etc. It might take my attention away from typing but it is
only for a little bit, and then I am back to typing. In the long run I can get the assignment done faster
than just sitting in one spot with no distractions around because I will eventually step away and start
doing something else, then someone might call me to go some where and I will forget about the paper
and leave.
I myself am more of a hands on type of learner; I would rather see demonstrations on what I need to
do and be told why it was done that way, and the reason for it. Some subjects don t need to be taught
with the hands on approach. But now since I am in college the responsibility between the teachers and
myself has shifted, I now have to seek out the information instead of the teacher s hand feeding it to
me. One of my strengths is Restorative, which means that I like to solve problems. It applies to my
style of learning because if I don t understand something I do all I can to understand it. I now

Photographic Images Hanging On The Gallery Wall
Chapter Five
Photographic Art Images.
There are many books, fine art prints, articles in journals and magazines about architectural
photography by some excellent photographers, emphasising architecture s visual strength, design and
conceptual quality, without which there would be no challenges for the photographer to attempt to
capture in the first instance. Architectural photography has an immense capacity to stimulate the
wonder of the man made world in a virtuoso manner. The intrinsic worth of a successful work of
decorative art photography is that it can open up new perceptions. Through photography buildings
exude a visual charge and imaginative possibilities beyond their everyday functions, giving the viewer
an interesting and engaging ocular experience, and a visual understanding of the world.
The picture hanging on the gallery wall leaves itself wide open to scrutiny, criticism or study but
ultimately invites, with visual intrigue the aesthetic pleasure and satisfaction, which the viewer derives
from sensory involvement of the image before them.
Fig. 71; Picture of a Las Vegas detail on display in Moscow. 2005.

Such decorative architectural images draw our attention to the way we view the world of buildings
and underline the fact that most people usually only use a building for work and leisure without really
understanding that sometimes these structures are a complex art form in their own right. Photographs,
in subtle ways attempt to change

Crooks. In the scene where Lenny comes into Crooks room Crooks said Why ain t you wanted?
Lennie asked. Cause I m black. They play cards in there, but I can t play because I m black(68) .
Crooks represents black Americans at the time and how they re segregated even in California, a state
that is seen as forward compared to the rest of America and especially the south. This is shown when
Crooks said I ain t a southern negro, he said. I was born right here in California... He laughed. If I say

renamed Dayton Dry Goods Company (Target Through The Years, 2016). In 1954, the company
began its first expansion outside of Minneapolis, MN to Rochester, MN. Later, the company began to
look for way to strengthen its relationships with their guests and introduced a mass market discount
store for shoppers looking for value. In 1962, this concept was called Target and made its first opening
in Roseville, MN. The Dayton Corporation joined forces with J.L Hudson Company of Detroit in 1969

Analysis Of The Poisonwood Bible
Barbara Kingsolver s novel The Poisonwood Bible captures a white southern families struggles
through cultural collision and avid yet destructive faith. Kingsolver utilizes personal narratives to
highlight the effect of western presence in Africa, not only pertaining to the natives but to the intrusive
westerners themselves. The Price women display an array of different reactions to their quest in the
Congo each character contributes a different perspective which furthers the plot. Leah Price, one half
of the highly intelligent twin dynamic, the only difference between the two is that, Leah is able

She longed for his approval, while Nathan busied himself yearning for God s. The changing factor
was the natural elements of the Congo, which severely altered their dysfunctional relationship. Leah
began to see Nathan s true colors due to his blatant disinterest in the well being of his family. Despite
their impending danger following the Independence of the Congo, the lack of basic living necessities,
never ending rumble of empty bellies, ghostly pale skin, and lifeless bodies, even death could not
encourage Nathaniel abandon his mission and Kilanga. Ruth May s death by a green mamba, Leah
began to despise her stubborn, father and everything he supports. Subsequent to her dear little sister s
demise, Leah no longer viewed Nathan as a man who could do no wrong, and likewise her faith in
Christ dwindled. I found I couldn t picture God at all. He just ended up looking like my father
(Kingsolver 423). Leah s image of God became warped due to the teachings of her father which
caused her adult self to abandon Christianity altogether. Nathan s version of Christ was an unmerciful
tyrant, which uncoincidentally mirrored Nathan. She began to rebel against her father and his ideals.
Leah outwardly disobeyed her father and his wishes when she hunted with the village men in spite of
her father telling her she couldn t and defied the gender roles prevalent in the Price household and
Kilanga. Leah began to live for herself and

Israel P.L.O. Peace Treaty Essay
Israel P.L.O. Peace Treaty
The Middle East has always been known as the Holy Land, the land of the Bible. For centuries,
prophets have walked there, nations have collided and conquerors have come and gone. While Jews
claim a three thousand year old attachment to this ancient land, Arabs also stake their devotion. In
1993, these two peoples, involved in a tragic conflict that has lasted more than half a century, saw the
possibility of a new beginning. It was called the Oslo Accord, and it transformed the political realities
of the Middle East (Peres, p.2) However, there have been many turbulent events that have followed
the signing of the Accord, events that have undermined the agreement and are threatening to drive

In June 1992, the Labour government was elected in Israel on a platform of peace and change. At its
head was Yitzhak Rabin, former military chief of staff. His move from the battlefield to the
negotiation table was a historical moment in the life of Israel.
Madrid had failed because Israeli and United States delegates refused to deal with the PLO. But Rabin
and foreign minister Peres, unlike their predecessors, were willing to pursue new avenues for peace.
The way was now paved for one of the most intriguing diplomatic accords of recent years, the Oslo
Agreement. It was now clear that direct dialogue was needed between the PLO and Israel. (Peres, p.
12)
Secret talks were arranged between the two sides in Norway starting in January 1993. However, one
key matter held up the talks, that being the Israeli ban on contact with the PLO. When the Israeli
Knesset repealed this, the way to Oslo was open. Talks took place between January and May of 1993.
As talks continued, complications arose, notably Israel s insistence that it retain control of West Bank
security. However, as trust grew, both sides compromised as they moved towards reconciliation and
mutual recognition. After eight months of negotiations, an agreement of principles was signed secretly
in Oslo. The declaration of principles bound Israel and the Palestinians to a five year interim
agreement. Power over Gaza and Jericho would be transferred to the Palestinians, economic programs

Problems, Solutions, and Future of Law Enforcement...
PROBLEMS, SOLUTIONS, AND FUTURE OF LAW ENFORMCEMENT INTELLIGENCE
The use of intelligence within law enforcement intelligence agencies is not always perfect. There may
be a way to safeguard against the misuse of intelligence processes to assure proper use it at all times,
but it has not yet been discovered. The only way that agencies can try and control the misuse of
intelligence is to study the historical failures of the past.
It is of most important to protect United States citizens right to the freedom of speech. For the average

There is confusion over these topics which brings the necessity to revisit the basic elements of
intelligence that Intelligence is a specialization, is critical, is measurable, seldom seeks publicity,
targets organized crime problems that are often ignored by other, and require attention to detail.
Many times intelligence can be lost due to hasty deadlines or lack of analyst present. Valuable
information on police reports must be processed in order to maintain and file away for possible future
use, or many times information is passed over phone lines and then not recorded on paper are only a
couple of mistakes that can be made when trying to push to meet a deadline. The analyst must have
time to go over every detail in order to draw a final conclusion and build the best intelligence product.
Another example of a loss of intelligence is most greatly seen in the drug wars. The cartels have a
great amount of money, which is sometimes overwhelming to some police officers that are willing to
look the other way for a price. There is no way to totally avoid the bait that the wealthy cartels can use
to try and find law enforcement officials that will help them out, but through education and morality
training the police officer has a chance.
When the wrong person gains intelligence information than many lives are put at risk. Covert

The Importance Of A Sense Of Community In Shirley...
In the story The Lottery by Shirley Jackson, the villagers gather annually to select a person to sacrifice
to ensure a good harvest. Although, the word lottery is usually associated with winning a grand prize, I
believe that Ms. Jackson used that word to create a sense of familiarity in the gathering of villagers for
her audience. It certainly made me feel secure that in the unfurling of the story I would find out which
lucky villager won something nice. I smiled as I read about the young children playing with the rocks
and the husbands and wives gathering and gossiping. I imagined the scene of a sleepy little farming
town where the cheerful civil servant would officiate public events and all the townsfolk had a
wholesome sense of community.

The Assassination Of Abe Lincoln
An Analysis Over the Assassination of Abe Lincoln Four score and seven years ago... Abraham
Lincoln was our 16th president and had his life taken after the North s victory over the South; he lives
on through these famous words of the Gettysburg Address. Abraham Lincoln was an important leader
in the Civil War who helped free the slaves; his legacy lives on today. Although he was assassinated
his words and actions are imprinted in our memory still today. This assassination was a major event in
the history of the United States, not only with the loss of a great president, but with the changes and
implications that came with it. Many possible reasons exist for his assassination including angered
slave owners in the south after he freed the slaves with The Emancipation Proclamation. To soldiers
from the south being angered with their recent loss in the Civil War. The most historically accepted
reason is that the South had just lost the most important battle in the war, and this led the South to
surrender to the North in the Civil War. After this happened if the South wanted any hope at all to
somehow remain independent they needed a way to gain back some ground and upset the North s
government and power. A common belief was that if you cut off the head of the snake the body will
flounder. In this case President Abraham Lincoln was that head, and it was believed if he was killed
the Union would struggle. That struggling would be exactly what the Confederacy would

Many People Surmise That Products In Advertisements Do
Many people surmise that products in advertisements do what they promise to. The same people will
believe any claim to be true when the face of a authoritative figure like Kim Kardashian is included in
the advertisement. When the topic of fitness and health, self esteem, or self confidence is brought into
play, potential customers will readily buy into the probability that one product can positively and
effectively change their lives (without any knowledge that they are being manipulated by fallacies).
This is exactly what happened when Skechers released their Shape Ups trainer shoe in 2009, the
advertisements Skechers provided promised: increased muscle strength, higher blood circulation, and

Which proves that Skechers will go as far as, blatantly lying to customers to make a profit off of their
fallacy filled product.
In the advertisement, Skechers claims that by wearing Shape ups a person will tone and develop
strong muscles , have improved blood circulation , and turn arches into powerful wifi hotspots . In
order for these claims to appear true and reliable, Skechers uses Kim Kardashian, to advertise the
Shape Ups campaign. By showing that Kim Kardashian wears Shape Ups, it imposes a correlation to
anyone viewing the advertisement that if she wears them and she is in good shape, then that will
inevitably happen to me. But that is simply not the case as evidence has come to show. Firstly,
Skechers claim to strengthen muscle is entirely false. Shape Ups do not tone or strengthen your lower
extremities like promised that statement alone is purely manipulative. In his article, Science Says:
Skechers Shape Ups Are Worthless Jeff Barnett writes, Every time it appeared research tests might
find a muscle that was worked harder by the Shape Up shoes, it turned out the added weight from the
bottom foot padding was the culprit, not the profile of the shoe. Secondly, the Shape Ups
advertisement states that taking a stroll with a pair of Sketchers Shape ups will improve blood
circulation and as a result

Magic And Divination And Magic In The African Magic
The African magic can be transferred through various medium and modes. Some magic is scarce
while some exist on a daily basis. Some magic is pronounced in physical ceremonies while some have
become a routine. For instance, words directed to a child by the parent and sometimes, community
seniors are said to possess a lot of power. Words can be used to curse bless, bring fortune, peace and
success. Words spoken with anger or out of disappointment and pain have the potential to cause curses
and misfortunes. Sometimes people travel long distances and conduct ceremonies to appease and seek
atonement from their elders, parents and diviners. It is believed that formal blessing is strong and so
are the curses. As such people avoid doing things that would earn them such curses, for example,
disrespecting parent. People can receive divination or curses through magic and witchcraft in the
African religion and specialists are tasked to facilitate the process.
Divination and cursing through magic and witchcraft
With magic, mystical powers can give people the ability to walk on fire, send curses and lucky charms
to people over distances. Depending on the occasions and the task, practitioners can change their
physical forms from a human body to animals like snakes, or cats. Practitioners can cause one to lose
their intellectual ability and even die by performing some gestures like spitting on the person or
touching them on certain parts of their body. Sometimes magicians can convert

England in 1819 Essay
England in 1819 Great poetry is great not because of what it says but because of how it is phrased.
Few poems say anything that is very profound; instead, the best of them use language in novel,
memorable, and effective ways. Certainly this is true of Percy Bysshe Shelley s famous sonnet
England in 1819. In this poem Shelley describes the depressing, dark, and dirty state of affairs caused
in Britain by political, social, and spiritual corruption. However, this poem would not be nearly as
effective if it were not for Shelley s powerful use of such classic rhetorical devices as adjectives,
alliteration, assonance, imagery, irony, lists, themes, and verbs. One device that Shelley employs very
potently is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3); graves and may (l. 13). Such use of assonance gives the poem rhythm and makes it more beautiful.
[VERY NICE] A fourth device that Shelley makes use of is imagery. The poem is full of such
description and figureS of speech. Shelley uses many violent images, such as the leechlike (l. 5) image
of a king who sucks the blood out of his countrymen. The king is blind in blood (l. 6), the blood of his
own people. If it was not enough that the king sucks the blood out of his countrymen, BUT he also
HAS starved and stabbed (l. 7) them. All these images function together to describe a horrible king
who ignores the needs of his people and sends them out to fight his war. [VERY GOOD] A fifth
method that Shelley brings to bear is irony. The poem is very negative, and the whole atmosphere
implies that the king would lead his country to total ruin. The irony in the poem is that the destruction
of England leads to a new beginning with hope. Shelley ends his poem by saying that Time s worst
statute, unrepealed/ Are graves from which a glorious Phantom may/ Burst, to illumine our
tempestuous day (ll. 12 14). The positive idea of a new beginning is ironic because it is in such sharp
contrast to the death and destruction presented earlier in the poem. [VERY GOOD] A sixth strategy
that Shelley brings his attention to is listing. Already in the first line, five adjectives are listed to
describe the king.

Who Is Thomas Wheatley s Influence
Influences Wheatley was seven years of age when she was abducted from her home in
Senegal/Gambia, West Africa. August 1761, she was sold to the Wheatley family. During her time
with the Wheatly family, she was taught how to read and write in different languages. She was also
immersed in the Bible, astronomy, geography, history, British literature and the Greek and Latin

She also mixes her religious and classical influences into the piece. In line 6, she states that the sun
slumbers in the ocean s arm (Wheatley Line 6), as if the sun is a baby in its mothers arms. This
symbolizes the sun as being dependent, but as we continue to read, the sun becomes independent from
its mother. Ador d the God that whirls surrounding spheres/which first ordain d that mighty Sol should
reign (Wheatley line 14 15). This states the sun being mighty and reigning over the land being God s
prince which can be inferred as Jesus. Upon reaching this point, one can see that the sun is no longer
an infant and can conclude that the ocean is none other than the Virgin Mary. Wheatly being well
versed in many religious studies and other languages, she embeds other religious influences in the
piece as well. The goddesses like Phoebus is mentioned in the poem. Phoebus was another name for
Apollo and the god Apollo was known to be very powerful. Apollo was not only the son of Zeus, but
he was also an oracular God; meaning that he was prophetic of the future. On the other hand, Christian
religion says God is the only one who knows what the future holds. Very interesting how Greek
mythology and Christianity overlap and contradict each other. In line 2 3, for example it says, To

Function Of Soliloquies In Hamlet
The Functions of Soliloquies in Hamlet. Soliloquies are a powerful writing device that can help a
writer with a large array of different things. Shakespeare uses these speeches in Hamlet quite often
and they became an important functioning feature in the story. Soliloquies helped Shakespeare to give
the readers insight into the emotion of Hamlet and Claudius through their narration directly to the
audience. These addresses to the audience fit the role of developing the plot through exposition of
plans via character narrations. The many monologues in Hamlet serve these functions to allow the
story to progress steadily and smoothly. Hamlet s first soliloquy exists in order to give both an insight
into Hamlet s emotional state and a small background on what has happened in the recent months to
put him in that state. Hamlet tells the audience that he feels disgusted with his mother for marrying
Claudius within two months of Hamlet Sr. dying. This monologue also easily explains to the audience
that Hamlet feels distraught over the loss of his father. Hamlet is just like us... his mysterious inner
life, his roller coaster of emotions...his conflicted feelings about his parents... (Hamlet). Hamlet s
heartache over his father s death and mother s quick wedding causes him to experience inner struggles
throughout the majority of the play. This soliloquy has the role of keeping the fluidity of the play by
using one of the characters in the play to temporarily act as a narrator

Drugs Control Lives
Drugs Control Lives The long lasting effects on drugs can be destructive. Once you ve become
hooked on drugs they can make you do things you never thought would happen. It always starts out
just wanting to try it to see what it does to you, but usually once you ve started it becomes a habit. A
habit that you start having no control over, and before you know it you ve lost everything that was
important to you. People I know have become victims to drugs and it is sad to see the outcome from
choosing drugs to rule your life. Because of drug use, people hurt their family emotionally and
financially, start stealing or committing crimes to provide for their habit, and it can also negatively
influence their children. Drugs not only effect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parents that use drugs usually fight and argue in front of their children and are generally abusive. This
could lead to their child being a bully at school or constantly trying to start fights and talk back to their
teachers. Children that grow up around drugs are more likely to try drugs at a young age. This could
lead to them taking the drugs to school and trying to give or sell them to friends. I ve heard a lot about
youngers kids going to whitfield county schools that have brought drugs to school and ended up
getting caught. These kids end up being expelled from school or being sent to a juvenile correctional
facility. Kids that grow up this way end up being the same as their parents, because that s all they have
known their whole lives. Choosing to let drugs control your everyday life can completely destroy you.
Not only will it hurt you, but also your family and friends who truly care about you. It will make you
lose your job, your friends, your family, and everything that you love. Substance abuse is a hard habit
to break. Before anyone takes a plunge into that world of misery, they need to think about the short

powerful and widely used tool for identifying competitive forces and assessing the strength and

(Thompson, Strickland and Gamble 2008) In order to determine the nature and strength of competitive

Colorism In African American Culture
What is Colorism How was it implemented in various cultures? Colorism comes in different forms
between different cultures, as well as within the same cultures. Colorism between African Americans,
Caucasians, and Indians has been a huge problem for many years now. It is sometimes harder for
african americans, and minorities to get jobs, and other opportunities. While colorism is different from
racism they are closely related.
Colorism is a form of intergroup stratification generally associated with black people in the
United States but is present among all people of color.
(https://www.theodysseyonline.com/colorism and its impact on society ) While colorism is a huge
problem in today s society, I don t agree with it because it is unfair, unjust, and disrespectful. Colorism
is generally associated with African Americans, and is essentially the differences between light skin,
and dark skin. The term has existed in the african american community since slavery began, and it was
established by slave owners who apparently saw a difference between those with lighter skin opposed
to darker skin. Oftentimes those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The term pigmentocracy, or colorism is the practice of interracial groups applying a valuation to
lighter skin (https://vtechworks.lib.vt.edu/handle/10919/73702) In India this is informed in various
ways including, the caste system, media, and cultural practices. Similar to African Americans, and
light skin versus dark skin debates Indians have to deal with the same theory. The theory that those
with the lighter skin, are superior to those that are darker. Oftentimes those that are darker are seen as
inferior, to those with light skin. The media often shows people of a lighter skin tone than those with
more pigmented skin. There are usually more light people, and maybe one or two darker people. This
all goes into play with how huge of problem colorism is

Summary Of In Praise Of Shadows
Throughout author Jun ichirō Tanizaki s In Praise of Shadows , he expresses his firm belief that
simplicity and contrast common Japanese values have immense beauty, even as these elements
become less common in a changing society. As the world around him shifts away from these values,
and more towards values of innovation and uniformity, he feels Japanese traditions deserve to remain
appreciated and understood. As a result, Tanizaki utilizes shadows to represent not only literal
shadows but also the various traditions in Japanese culture that are becoming more underappreciated,
as time goes on. Similarly to shadows, these Japanese customs seem to go unnoticed and are no longer
a significant aspect of everyday life. Tanizaki s use of metaphors and repetition throughout In Praise
of Shadows help to exemplify his high gratitude of traditional Japanese Culture. For many portions of
the essay, Tanizaki is praising the beauty of shadows within the world around him. This is quite
prevalent in the section about gold. Although he speaks often about how he doesn t enjoy the beauty of
lustrous metals that shine aggressively, Tanizaki has a differing opinion when it comes to gold. He
beckons, And surely you have seen, in the darkness of innermost rooms... how gold leaf... will pick up
a distant glimmer... (22). In this certain lighting he feels the shine of gold is not aggressive, rather
inviting; absorbing light in beautiful ways that seem almost impossible. Tanizaki

How Reiki Changed My Life
Reiki energy has had a profound effect on different areas of my life. For starters, I normally offer
myself a full body reiki session at the end of the day and offer myself mini sessions throughout the
day (or whenever I find myself uneasy and ungrounded). It allows me to center and ground myself in
the Now instead of allowing myself feel trapped by fear. I find that reiki allows me to bring out the
best of me.
I also enjoy offering myself the energy before doing an oracle/tarot reading. I find the readings come
out clearer and sometimes nearly laughable (at least it is how I feel). For example, I was giving myself
a reading with my Zen cards and my question was in regards to my past life. The first card I drew was
past life. This gave ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of which as time passed, developed to be answers I sought for. It just took patience to see the
answers were already there. Reiki was this factor that allowed me to open my eyes to really see. Not in
the physical sense, but from the heart. And because of this, I understand with patience and gratitude, I
was able to manifest and connect with energies around me. The more grateful I was the quicker
manifesting became. Since last year, I began to develop a better understanding of energies and how
they mirror your vibration. Example: A few months ago, I found myself not wanting to be at work
anymore and felt such pain/resistance being there. I realized my relationship with my supervisor had
become tense and in a way it was disheartening since I was not sure what changed in our dynamic. I
placed this question upon the universe and began to send her distant reiki. I used what I learned in
reiki II to clear the office space as well. I focused a lot on my intent to help her and to find gratitude
for working with Girls Inc. of NYC. A few weeks later, she spoke to me about her issues with our
CEO and how she realized we were not the same team anymore. I was surprised she realized it, since
it seemed she did not notice or mind the change. I was able to use reiki to manifest a better
relationship with my supervisor, and was truly grateful that the universe heard me!

Kenya s Independence From The British Empire
The Pipeline In the years leading up to Kenya s independence from the British Empire, a violent
uprising later known as Mau Mau plagued the colony. From1952 to 1960, African forest fighters
waged a war against the British who had little experience fighting against guerilla warfare. In an effort
to bring the crime wave, as the British called it, to an end, colonial officials housed those who they
believed to be working for or in collaboration with the Mau Mau fighters in detention camps. The
Kikuyu, Kenya s largest ethnic group, were those who were primarily targeted by the British. This is
due to the fact that the majority of Mau Mau fighters were members of that tribal/ethnic group. After
several years and many reports of brutality and massacres within the detention camps, members of the
British population began to call for an end to the camps and an end to colonialism. How were the
British Empire and its allies able to justify such a horrific counterinsurgency program, especially so
soon after the liberation of Nazi concentration camps?
Historiography
Perhaps the two most notorious modern historians who have published comprehensive secondary
sources regarding Mau Mau are Caroline Elkins and David Anderson. Each has published a book
about the rebellion and each book will be vital to my research regarding the Pipeline. Elkins book,
Britain s Gulag in Kenya, goes into great detail about the Pipeline; she heavily critiques the British
and portrays Mau Mau as a race war.

Reward Systems
Introduction
Reward Management (RM) has been defined as the distribution of monetary and non monetary
rewards to employees in an effort to align the interests of the employees, the organisation, and its
shareholders (O Neil, 1998). In addition O Neil (1998) also suggests that a RM system can serve the
purpose of attracting prospective job applicants, retaining valuable employees, motivating employees,
ensuring legal requirements relating to direct and indirect rewards are not violated, assisting the
company in achieving human resource and business objectives, and ultimately assisting the
organisation in obtaining a competitive advantage.
Various conflicts in the RM system can affect the benefits that can be obtained. It has been argued ...

The fourth criterion is to ensure that the system is integrated with all other HRM functions, and that
the employees can control and influence the performance outcomes. Communication of the system is
the fifth criterion, the system, its objectives and the rewards must be effectively communicated to all
participants. The final criterion is that the system must be evaluated on a regular basis to ensure the
objectives and returns are being achieved. In addition RM has strong links with the following Human
Resource Management (HRM) functions; job analysis, recruitment, performance assessment and
union management relations.
As stated by Lawler (2002) individual based pay should be used to reward persons for their skills,
knowledge and competencies relative to their external market value. Multiple pay for performance
approaches should be used as rewards. Reward systems should be tailored to fit the characteristics and
requirements of the individuals that an organisation wishes to attract and retain.
Reward Management in the subject organisation
The subject organisation is a national company which was formed in 1976 and has thirteen branches
throughout Australia. The core business activities are the importation, sales, hire, and spare parts
backup of various types materials handling and mobile equipment throughout Australia. In addition

Eventually, keeping in mind the interests of its key stakeholders, British Airways reverted to its former
marketing campaign (Balmer et al., 2013).
3. Mission and objectives
The objective of the airline is to focus on the consumer by providing maximum customer care whilst
simultaneously being known as one of the world s most responsible airlines. In this regard, the
company introduced one destination , which is a corporate responsibility program designed to raise
awareness on environmental issues promoting diversity and inclusion of minorities in the workplace.
This helps create a corporate culture that understands the varying needs of consumers from different
ethnic backgrounds (British Airways, 2014).
To achieve this objective, the company set several long term and short term goals that promoted
accountability, transparency and corporate citizenship whilst creating a flexible environment that
responded effectively to consumer preferences. Table 1 illustrates the company s 5 main short term
goals.

Stock Valuation
LECTURE
STOCK VALUATION 1. Common stock valuation A share of common stock is more difficult to value
in practice than a bond, for at least three reasons. First, with common stock, not even the promised
cash flows are known in a advance. Second, the life of the investment is essentially forever, since
common stock has no maturity. Third, there is no way to easily observe the rate of return that the
market requires. Nonetheless, as we will see, there are cases in which we can come up with the present
value of the future cash flows for a share of stock and thus determine its value. Cash Flows Imagine
that you are considering buying a share of stock today. You plan to sell the stock in one year. You
somehow know that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From Chapter 6 (Example 6.7), we know that the dividend on a share of preferred stock has zero
growth and thus is constant through time. For a zero growth share of common stock, this implies that:
D1 = D2 = D3 = D = constant So, the value of the stock is:
|P0= |
If the dividend grows at a steady rate, then we have replaced the problem of forecasting an infinite
number of future dividends with the problem of coming up with a single growth rate, a considerable
simplification. In this case, if we take D0 to be the dividend just paid and g to be the constant growth
rate, the value of a share of stock can be written as:
|P0= |D1 |+ |D2 |+ |D3 |+... | |
| |(1+R)1 | |(1+R)2 | |(1+R)3 | | |
|= |D0(1+g)1 |+ |D0(1+g)2 |+ |D0(1+g)3 |+... | |
| |(1+R)1 | |(1+R)2 | |(1+R)3 | | |
As long as the growth rate, g, is less than the discount rate, r, the present value of this series of cash
flows can be written very simply as:
|P0= |D0(1+g) |= |D1

Compare Capulet s Intention To Create Tension Between...
Humanity s susceptibility to its primitive impulses is what ultimately facilitates an ancient feud
between Capulets and Montagues to remain prevalent to a contemporary generation of characters.
Within the introductory scene of the story, two members of the Capulet family, Sampson and Gregory,
indirectly introduce a conflicted reality of two families, Capulets and Montagues. Both families are
established as parallels of social dignity and resultantly, are also depicted as natural rivals and
competitors. Upon noticing a member of the Montague family, Abram, Sampson and Gregory are
compelled to insult and intimidate him as it, is [a] disgrace to them to bear it. The Capulet s intention

Leadership And The Ability Of Influence Change
Throughout the semester we talked about change, leadership and the ability to influence change. As a
prerequisite to writing this paper, we had to interview a faculty or staff member who influences
change in their profession or field. This lieutenant immediately came to mind. He is an alumni of
Buffalo State and is currently the lieutenant with the University Police at Buffalo State. He received
his bachelor s degree of science in Criminal Justice. During his undergrad years, he was placed on the
Dean s List numerous times. He started as a University Police Officer and was later promoted to
lieutenant. Last year, he was nominated for the Professional Service Award, following a hit and run
incident involving a driver who struck a student at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Until alerted of the problem, people will continue to make the same mistakes. In How Colleges
Change Adrianna Kezar argues that the underlying assumption of organizational learning is that once
human beings detect errors they want to correct them and undergo change (Kezar, 2014). This
lieutenant takes his time to teach and explain whenever something is not done properly and recognizes
the hard work and efforts of others. Not only is he honest, respectful and confident, he is also inspiring
and motivating.
While interviewing him, I decided to partake in a ride along. During the ride along we had a call for
backup. An officer called for backup because he sensed a potential altercation with the suspect. The
lieutenant told him it was a good call and praised him for a job well done. Being recognized for our
actions inspires better performance. This lieutenant is not just a leader; he is an exceptional leader who
takes the proactive approach to problem solving. This lieutenant is always three steps ahead when
identifying problems and potential solutions, as well as initiating new ideas to tackle foreseeable
future troubles and growing complications.
Through the interview with the lieutenant, I learned that the University Police Department operates
under the philosophy and practice of Community Policing. Community Policing refers to police
officers working closely with community members to promote safety and security, often requiring the

The Lead Up For Current Business Level Strategy
The Lead up to current Business level Strategy Since the inception of the company, General Electric
put great emphasis on innovation. Creating the first Industrial Research Laboratory of its kind in 1900,
the company introduces copious amount of new products to the world ever since. This Lab allowed
the company to generate new products that would facilitate the creation of future profitable ideas. The

In 1981 with the arrival of the new CEO, Jack Welsh, the new corporate strategy was implemented
with emphasis on performance and efficiency. This move toward efficiency reduced innovation in the
company, moving it away from its differentiation strategies. General Electric diversified itself by
investing and acquiring a slew of companies that it recognized to be profitable. GE operated in more
than eight different industries. The management sough to maintain a limited number of sectors that
had great growth potential and performance. GE s portfolio of business divisions involved Power
Water, Aviation, Healthcare, Oil Gas, Energy Management, Appliances Lighting, Transportation, GE
Capital, and others. The company wide policy was to implement six sigma quality control,
digitization, and globalization. Jack Welsh also aimed to create and nurture the development of talent
and leadership in the company.
Current Business level Strategies With the arrival of New CEO, Jeff Immelt, in 2001 the company
went through a reformation once more. Immelt intended to disband the conglomerate corporate
strategy and instead concentrate on GE s core competencies relating to advanced technologies and
services in order to deliver superior highly customized products to high growth markets (Bucifal,
2009). This new strategy hearkened back to the companies original differentiation strategy, and

Essay On Health Disparity In African American Men
The higher incidence of prostate cancer in African American/Black men compared to other
racial/ethnic groups is a major health disparity. The statistics surrounding this health disparity are
scary, with African American men having a prostate cancer mortality rate twice as high as whites and
a prostate cancer incidence two thirds higher (Modlin, 2012). The health disparity of African
American men s incidence of prostate cancer is a huge problem from a public health perspective
because it makes African American men less productive, there are higher costs in the healthcare field
than would be if the gap didn t exist, and a loss of sense of control from African American men
because of financial concerns/aftermath of treatment. One behavioral influence ... Show more content

A biological influence on this health disparity is a genetic predisposition seen in African American
men. Several studies have shown a chromosome that is more common in African American men that
increases the risk of prostate cancer. The chromosome is 8q24 variants, which is the most commonly
seen, as well as, BCL2 and EphB2 linking to a higher incidence of prostate cancer (Modlin, 2012).
The genetic predisposition has also been proven to cause prostate cancer to be a more aggressive
disease in African Americans, likely leading to the higher mortality rates. The behavioral influence of
being less likely to get screened and the biological influence of a genetic predisposition interact to
influence the health disparity. There is no way of changing the genetic predisposition so that already
puts African American men in a place for higher incidence. Being they already have that higher
incidence due to genetics, adding into the equation African Americans being less likely to be screened
only makes the health disparity

  • 2. Analysis Of Harvey Norman s Net Profit Margin Essay In the Table __ and Fig __, you can see how the company has been performing. The overall profitability of the company has increased. Profitability ratios have increased since 2010. In particular, Harvey Norman s Gross Profit Margin saw a significant growth, it grew 44.7% since 2010. Operating Profit Margin saw a similar result, finishing with a ratio of 10.5 in Financial Year 2015. Harvey Norman s Net Profit Margin (when positive), have been at best maximum and are further illustrative of the paper thin margins typically associated with the retail sector. Investments of Return on Assets (ROA) and Return on Equity (ROE) were also substantial, comparing 2010 and 2015 there was a relative decrease in ROA and ROE which doesn t make much of a difference if the Gross Profit Margin has a strong game. Thus, on the basis of the financial results over the last 6 years, shareholders would definitely be confident about investing in Harvey Norman, unless there is a decline in current asset and equity returns. Harvey Norman Activity ratios are shown in Table __ and Fig __. The only year when Harvey Noman had its maximum inventory turnover was in the Financial year 2010. There was not much of a difference between the Financial Years 2010 and 2015 as the Average Collection Period, Accounts Receivable Ratio, Fixed Assets Turnover and Total Asset were fluctuating (it increased as well as decreased simultaneously). This increase in turnover is reflective of both a recent increase in consumer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay on Reading, Writing and Literacy I wouldn t say that I am a good writer, and I really don t like to read books either. Through my years in school I became literate in these two categories. I was and still am not interested in writing, or reading books in my spare time. The only writing I have ever done is for school. Writing just does not interest me, and the only reading I do out of class is reading about sports in magazines, or reading the news, or looking at web pages. I have only read a couple of books on my own, 95% of all the books I have read have been for school. The reason for not writing out of class is probably attributed to the fact that I am a very impatient person, and I have a short attention span. I have no interest in writing and reading so when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The way it helps me out is if I m starting to get bored typing a paper I don t have to leave the computer I could go on the internet and look at ESPN for a couple of minutes and after I check out last nights scores I can go back to writing my paper. Because of my computer literacy there are a numerous amount of things I know I can do on a computer like listen to music, get on the internet, check e mail, watch a movie, talk to a friend, etc. It might take my attention away from typing but it is only for a little bit, and then I am back to typing. In the long run I can get the assignment done faster than just sitting in one spot with no distractions around because I will eventually step away and start doing something else, then someone might call me to go some where and I will forget about the paper and leave. I myself am more of a hands on type of learner; I would rather see demonstrations on what I need to do and be told why it was done that way, and the reason for it. Some subjects don t need to be taught with the hands on approach. But now since I am in college the responsibility between the teachers and myself has shifted, I now have to seek out the information instead of the teacher s hand feeding it to me. One of my strengths is Restorative, which means that I like to solve problems. It applies to my style of learning because if I don t understand something I do all I can to understand it. I now ... • 4. Photographic Images Hanging On The Gallery Wall Chapter Five Photographic Art Images. There are many books, fine art prints, articles in journals and magazines about architectural photography by some excellent photographers, emphasising architecture s visual strength, design and conceptual quality, without which there would be no challenges for the photographer to attempt to capture in the first instance. Architectural photography has an immense capacity to stimulate the wonder of the man made world in a virtuoso manner. The intrinsic worth of a successful work of decorative art photography is that it can open up new perceptions. Through photography buildings exude a visual charge and imaginative possibilities beyond their everyday functions, giving the viewer an interesting and engaging ocular experience, and a visual understanding of the world. The picture hanging on the gallery wall leaves itself wide open to scrutiny, criticism or study but ultimately invites, with visual intrigue the aesthetic pleasure and satisfaction, which the viewer derives from sensory involvement of the image before them. Fig. 71; Picture of a Las Vegas detail on display in Moscow. 2005. Photo; J. Lowe Such decorative architectural images draw our attention to the way we view the world of buildings and underline the fact that most people usually only use a building for work and leisure without really understanding that sometimes these structures are a complex art form in their own right. For centuries, prophets have walked there, nations have collided and conquerors have come and gone. While Jews claim a three thousand year old attachment to this ancient land, Arabs also stake their devotion. In 1993, these two peoples, involved in a tragic conflict that has lasted more than half a century, saw the possibility of a new beginning. It was called the Oslo Accord, and it transformed the political realities of the Middle East (Peres, p.2) However, there have been many turbulent events that have followed the signing of the Accord, events that have undermined the agreement and are threatening to drive Israelis and Arabs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Finkelstein, p. 14 15) In June 1992, the Labour government was elected in Israel on a platform of peace and change. At its head was Yitzhak Rabin, former military chief of staff. His move from the battlefield to the negotiation table was a historical moment in the life of Israel. Madrid had failed because Israeli and United States delegates refused to deal with the PLO. But Rabin and foreign minister Peres, unlike their predecessors, were willing to pursue new avenues for peace. The way was now paved for one of the most intriguing diplomatic accords of recent years, the Oslo Agreement. It was now clear that direct dialogue was needed between the PLO and Israel. (Peres, p. 12) Secret talks were arranged between the two sides in Norway starting in January 1993. However, one key matter held up the talks, that being the Israeli ban on contact with the PLO. When the Israeli Knesset repealed this, the way to Oslo was open. Talks took place between January and May of 1993. As talks continued, complications arose, notably Israel s insistence that it retain control of West Bank security. However, as trust grew, both sides compromised as they moved towards reconciliation and mutual recognition. After eight months of negotiations, an agreement of principles was signed secretly in Oslo. The declaration of principles bound Israel and the Palestinians to a five year interim agreement. Power over Gaza and Jericho would be transferred to the Palestinians, economic programs ... PROBLEMS, SOLUTIONS, AND FUTURE OF LAW ENFORMCEMENT INTELLIGENCE The use of intelligence within law enforcement intelligence agencies is not always perfect. There may be a way to safeguard against the misuse of intelligence processes to assure proper use it at all times, but it has not yet been discovered. The only way that agencies can try and control the misuse of intelligence is to study the historical failures of the past. There is confusion over these topics which brings the necessity to revisit the basic elements of intelligence that Intelligence is a specialization, is critical, is measurable, seldom seeks publicity, targets organized crime problems that are often ignored by other, and require attention to detail. Valuable information on police reports must be processed in order to maintain and file away for possible future use, or many times information is passed over phone lines and then not recorded on paper are only a couple of mistakes that can be made when trying to push to meet a deadline. The analyst must have time to go over every detail in order to draw a final conclusion and build the best intelligence product. Another example of a loss of intelligence is most greatly seen in the drug wars. The cartels have a great amount of money, which is sometimes overwhelming to some police officers that are willing to look the other way for a price. There is no way to totally avoid the bait that the wealthy cartels can use to try and find law enforcement officials that will help them out, but through education and morality training the police officer has a chance. Although, the word lottery is usually associated with winning a grand prize, I believe that Ms. Jackson used that word to create a sense of familiarity in the gathering of villagers for her audience. It certainly made me feel secure that in the unfurling of the story I would find out which lucky villager won something nice. • 12. The Assassination Of Abe Lincoln An Analysis Over the Assassination of Abe Lincoln Four score and seven years ago... Abraham Lincoln was our 16th president and had his life taken after the North s victory over the South; he lives on through these famous words of the Gettysburg Address. Abraham Lincoln was an important leader in the Civil War who helped free the slaves; his legacy lives on today. Although he was assassinated his words and actions are imprinted in our memory still today. This assassination was a major event in the history of the United States, not only with the loss of a great president, but with the changes and implications that came with it. Many possible reasons exist for his assassination including angered slave owners in the south after he freed the slaves with The Emancipation Proclamation. To soldiers from the south being angered with their recent loss in the Civil War. The most historically accepted reason is that the South had just lost the most important battle in the war, and this led the South to surrender to the North in the Civil War. After this happened if the South wanted any hope at all to somehow remain independent they needed a way to gain back some ground and upset the North s government and power. The same people will believe any claim to be true when the face of a authoritative figure like Kim Kardashian is included in the advertisement. When the topic of fitness and health, self esteem, or self confidence is brought into play, potential customers will readily buy into the probability that one product can positively and effectively change their lives (without any knowledge that they are being manipulated by fallacies). In the advertisement, Skechers claims that by wearing Shape ups a person will tone and develop strong muscles , have improved blood circulation , and turn arches into powerful wifi hotspots . In order for these claims to appear true and reliable, Skechers uses Kim Kardashian, to advertise the Shape Ups campaign. By showing that Kim Kardashian wears Shape Ups, it imposes a correlation to anyone viewing the advertisement that if she wears them and she is in good shape, then that will inevitably happen to me. But that is simply not the case as evidence has come to show. Firstly, Skechers claim to strengthen muscle is entirely false. Shape Ups do not tone or strengthen your lower extremities like promised that statement alone is purely manipulative. In his article, Science Says: Skechers Shape Ups Are Worthless Jeff Barnett writes, Every time it appeared research tests might find a muscle that was worked harder by the Shape Up shoes, it turned out the added weight from the bottom foot padding was the culprit, not the profile of the shoe. Some magic is pronounced in physical ceremonies while some have become a routine. For instance, words directed to a child by the parent and sometimes, community seniors are said to possess a lot of power. Words can be used to curse bless, bring fortune, peace and success. Words spoken with anger or out of disappointment and pain have the potential to cause curses and misfortunes. Sometimes people travel long distances and conduct ceremonies to appease and seek atonement from their elders, parents and diviners. It is believed that formal blessing is strong and so are the curses. As such people avoid doing things that would earn them such curses, for example, disrespecting parent. People can receive divination or curses through magic and witchcraft in the African religion and specialists are tasked to facilitate the process. • 15. England in 1819 Essay England in 1819 Great poetry is great not because of what it says but because of how it is phrased. Few poems say anything that is very profound; instead, the best of them use language in novel, memorable, and effective ways. Certainly this is true of Percy Bysshe Shelley s famous sonnet England in 1819. In this poem Shelley describes the depressing, dark, and dirty state of affairs caused in Britain by political, social, and spiritual corruption. However, this poem would not be nearly as effective if it were not for Shelley s powerful use of such classic rhetorical devices as adjectives, alliteration, assonance, imagery, irony, lists, themes, and verbs. [VERY NICE] A fourth device that Shelley makes use of is imagery. The poem is full of such description and figureS of speech. Shelley uses many violent images, such as the leechlike (l. 5) image of a king who sucks the blood out of his countrymen. The king is blind in blood (l. 6), the blood of his own people. If it was not enough that the king sucks the blood out of his countrymen, BUT he also HAS starved and stabbed (l. 7) them. All these images function together to describe a horrible king who ignores the needs of his people and sends them out to fight his war. [VERY GOOD] A fifth method that Shelley brings to bear is irony. The poem is very negative, and the whole atmosphere implies that the king would lead his country to total ruin. The irony in the poem is that the destruction of England leads to a new beginning with hope. Shelley ends his poem by saying that Time s worst statute, unrepealed/ Are graves from which a glorious Phantom may/ Burst, to illumine our tempestuous day (ll. 12 14). The positive idea of a new beginning is ironic because it is in such sharp contrast to the death and destruction presented earlier in the poem. [VERY GOOD] A sixth strategy that Shelley brings his attention to is listing. Already in the first line, five adjectives are listed to describe the king. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ador d the God that whirls surrounding spheres/which first ordain d that mighty Sol should reign (Wheatley line 14 15). This states the sun being mighty and reigning over the land being God s prince which can be inferred as Jesus. Upon reaching this point, one can see that the sun is no longer an infant and can conclude that the ocean is none other than the Virgin Mary. Wheatly being well versed in many religious studies and other languages, she embeds other religious influences in the piece as well. The goddesses like Phoebus is mentioned in the poem. Phoebus was another name for Apollo and the god Apollo was known to be very powerful. Apollo was not only the son of Zeus, but he was also an oracular God; meaning that he was prophetic of the future. • 18. Function Of Soliloquies In Hamlet The Functions of Soliloquies in Hamlet. Soliloquies are a powerful writing device that can help a writer with a large array of different things. Shakespeare uses these speeches in Hamlet quite often and they became an important functioning feature in the story. Soliloquies helped Shakespeare to give the readers insight into the emotion of Hamlet and Claudius through their narration directly to the audience. These addresses to the audience fit the role of developing the plot through exposition of plans via character narrations. The many monologues in Hamlet serve these functions to allow the story to progress steadily and smoothly. Hamlet s first soliloquy exists in order to give both an insight into Hamlet s emotional state and a small background on what has happened in the recent months to put him in that state. Hamlet tells the audience that he feels disgusted with his mother for marrying Claudius within two months of Hamlet Sr. dying. This monologue also easily explains to the audience that Hamlet feels distraught over the loss of his father. Hamlet is just like us... his mysterious inner life, his roller coaster of emotions...his conflicted feelings about his parents... (Hamlet). Hamlet s heartache over his father s death and mother s quick wedding causes him to experience inner struggles throughout the majority of the play. This soliloquy has the role of keeping the fluidity of the play by using one of the characters in the play to temporarily act as a narrator ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As the world around him shifts away from these values, and more towards values of innovation and uniformity, he feels Japanese traditions deserve to remain appreciated and understood. As a result, Tanizaki utilizes shadows to represent not only literal shadows but also the various traditions in Japanese culture that are becoming more underappreciated, as time goes on. Similarly to shadows, these Japanese customs seem to go unnoticed and are no longer a significant aspect of everyday life. Tanizaki s use of metaphors and repetition throughout In Praise of Shadows help to exemplify his high gratitude of traditional Japanese Culture. For many portions of the essay, Tanizaki is praising the beauty of shadows within the world around him. This is quite prevalent in the section about gold. • 25. Kenya s Independence From The British Empire The Pipeline In the years leading up to Kenya s independence from the British Empire, a violent uprising later known as Mau Mau plagued the colony. From1952 to 1960, African forest fighters waged a war against the British who had little experience fighting against guerilla warfare. In an effort to bring the crime wave, as the British called it, to an end, colonial officials housed those who they believed to be working for or in collaboration with the Mau Mau fighters in detention camps. The Kikuyu, Kenya s largest ethnic group, were those who were primarily targeted by the British. This is due to the fact that the majority of Mau Mau fighters were members of that tribal/ethnic group. After several years and many reports of brutality and massacres within the detention camps, members of the British population began to call for an end to the camps and an end to colonialism. How were the British Empire and its allies able to justify such a horrific counterinsurgency program, especially so soon after the liberation of Nazi concentration camps? Historiography Perhaps the two most notorious modern historians who have published comprehensive secondary sources regarding Mau Mau are Caroline Elkins and David Anderson.
