The draw down the Army is currently experiencing introduced changes to the Army s retention
program and the service of some Soldiers is no longer a given. A tri signed memorandum from
senior Army leadership changed the way retention will operate in the future. As a result, Army
leadership implemented the Order of Merit List (OML) causing commanders at all levels to face
tough decisions that will challenge their ethical demeanor. Subjecting our Soldiers to this type of
treatment is unjust. The use of the OML determines the best qualified Soldiers throughout
formations. Though the OML may identify the top performers, it does not take into account the

This directive came from the 3ID Commanding General (CG). Each brigade constructed an OML
by utilizing Soldiers weapon score, physical fitness test score, if they appeared before a Soldier of
the Month board, previous awards, military and civilian education, deployment history, and the
first line supervisors recommendation to come up with a total point value. The Third Infantry
Commander named this the Commanders Assessment Tool for Retention (CAT R). Soldiers
with the highest score would have the first opportunity to reenlist. Soldiers would have two
weeks to make a decision to reenlist or not. Soldiers that elected not to reenlist went to the
bottom of the OML until the next quarter. This allowed only the best qualified Soldiers to
reenlist. Just as the Army is an all volunteer force so is retention of our Soldiers. This process led
commanders to face tough decisions. By choosing, who gets to reenlist and who does not base

puncturing holes in the compound walls so they could pump in tear gas, to flush out the cult
members with the least harm. Using loudspeakers, officers told the Branch Davidians no armed
assault would be made and to hold their fire. When cult members opened their weapons, the FBI
increased the tear gas assault and began firing military grenade launches at the building. At
around noon, three fires broke out in different parts of the compound, allegedly set by the
Branch Davidians. The fire spread, trapping cult members, while others refused to leave,

Abrahamic Religions are considered monotheistic, which is the belief in a single, universal, all
encompassing God. Islam, Christianity, and Judaismbelieve that their sacred texts (or scriptures)
are the Word of God. In Christianity the sacred text is the Bible, For Islam it is the Qur an, and for
Judaism it is the Hebrew Bible or Tanakh.
There exists the expectation of an individual who will herald the end of the world, and/or bring
about the Kingdom of God on Earth. Judaism awaits the coming of the Jewish Messiah.
Christianity awaits the Second Coming of Christ. Islam awaits the coming of Mahdi (Sunnis in
his first incarnation, Shi as the return of Muhammad al Mahdi). The three religions encompass
Gabriel as considered an archangel to Jews and Christian and according to Islam Gabriel is the
angel who revealed the Qur an to Muhammad.The religions also adhere to a pilgrimage which is
considered a spiritual long journey or search of great moral significance. Sometimes, it is a
journey to a sacred place or shrine of importance to a person s beliefs and faith. Islam, Christianity,
and Judaism involve themselves in pilgrimages.
Judaism and Islam have strict dietary laws, with lawful food being called kosher in Judaism and
Halaal in Islam. Christianity developed ritual prohibitions against the consumption of meat (but not
fish) on Fridays, and the Christian calendars prescribe abstinence from some foods at various times
of the year; but these customs vary from place to place and changed over time.
In all cultures, human beings make a lifestyle out of interacting with and pledging their devotion to
what are thought to be spiritual powers. Humans connect themselves with these spiritual powers
which give their lives purpose and meaning. Religion is simply used to guide its followers through
this complicated and diverse realm of human experience. According to the American Heritage
Dictionary, religion is, the belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as
creator and governor of the universe. In
