Chapter 1 Finding Your Inner Fish 1. Explain why the author and his colleagues chose to focus on 375
million year old rocks in their search for fossils. Be sure to include the types of rocks and their
location during their paleontology work in 2004. The author and his colleagues specifically chose to
focus on 375 million year old rocks in their search for fossils because this was the time frame that
provided fish that would be useful to study from. The 385 million year old rocks provided fish that
look too similar to the ones we have now and the 365 million year old rocks have fossils that don t
resemble fish. The 375 million year old rocks, however, provide fossils that show the transition
between fish and land living animals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Describe at least one of these experiments and explain the significance of the findings. In one of the
experiments, Mary Gasseling took a little patch of tissue, early in development, from what would be
the pinky side of a limb bud. She took that tissue and put it on the opposite side right beneath where
the first finger would form. The chick would develop and form a wing; the new fingers were also
copies of the normal set. Basically, the tissue (more specifically some molecule or gene inside the
tissue) was able to direct the development of the pattern of the fingers. This led to further experiments
that defined the ZPA, or the zone of polarizing activity. This patch of tissue is able to determine the
difference between the pinky side and the thumb side. 2. Describe the hedgehog gene using several
animal examples. Be sure to explain its function and its region of activity in the body. Hedgehog is a
gene active in ZPA. ZPA is only located in little clusters and with this hedgehog gene, it creates a
mirror image in limbs for the development and growth. The gene creates digits that are clearly
different from one another depending on how close they are to the ZPA. The chicken version of the
hedgehog gene was named Sonic hedgehog and it activates once Vitamin A is injected. All creatures
have the Sonic hedgehog and they all can be activated by injecting Vitamin A. When tested on a skate,
the Sonic hedgehog turned on at the same time as a

Carbon is the Basis for Organic Chemistry
Carbon is a chemical element with symbol C and atomic number 6. Its name originates from a Latin
word carbo for charcoal. Carbon is a member of group 14 elements on the periodic table and is
nonmetallic and tetravalent (make four bonds available to form covalent chemical bonds). It s the
basis for organic chemistry as it occurs in living organisms also it s the fourth most abundant element
in the universe. The allotropes of carbon are diamond, graphite and amorphous carbon.
ALLOTROPES OF CARBON
The existence in the same physical state of two or more structural forms of the same element is known
as allotropy. Allotropes of carbon are the ability of carbon to exist in various forms in the same
physical state. Carbon can exist in three different allotropic forms. These are diamond, graphite, and
amorphous or non crystalline. Diamond and graphite form the crystalline carbon.
DIAMOND
Diamond is the hardest known natural mineral, which makes it a good abrasive. It s the purest form of
naturally occurring carbon. It is found as colorless, lusterless solids, which can be transformed into
brilliant gems. It consists of an array of bonded atoms. No discrete molecule can be distinguished.
They are rare and found in volcanic rocks. Industrial use of diamond is in cutting, drilling, grinding
and polishing. Diamonds are fixed in drill tips or saw, blades or ground to powder for grinding and
polishing applications. Diamonds are specially used in laboratories as containment for high

Equal Pay Act Of 1964 Essay
There are four Acts passed by Congress that were pivotal for equality in the American workforce.
Until these laws were passed by Congress, people of color and woman suffered grave injustices in the
form of hiring, income, promotion, and termination. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 ended the Jim Crow
laws of the South that promoted segregation and many laws of inequality that plagued the southern
states in America. The Equal Pay Act of 1963 helped establish equal pay for women in the workforce.
The Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978 established litigation for working pregnant women. The
Civil Rights Act of 1991 greater enforced the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and held organization
monetarily responsible for violations of discriminations to minorities. The learning of these important
laws will help an individual better understand their rights as it pertains to employment in the
workforce.

The intentions of the Equal Pay Act were to provide legislation to make it illegal for organizations to
discriminate in pay by sex (gender). The workforce at that time was discriminating the wages of
women of all races. The women were receiving lower wages than that of the America male.
The major components of the Act are that an employer must pay women the same pay as that of the
male counterparts. The EPA provides that the employer may not lower wages to employees of one
gender than it pays to employees of other gender, employees within the same establishment for equal
work at jobs that require equal skill effort, and responsibility, and that are performed under similar
working conditions. ( Equal Pay, 2017, p. 1) The EPA was passed in 1963 and the Act made it illegal

Germany Political Structure and Economy
After the World War II, the winner of the war divided Germany and its capital, Berlin, among
themselves. East Germany, a brand new country that promised to show the world why socialism was
the best political system, was occupied and controlled by The Soviet Union. West Germany, called the
Federal Republic, was occupied by the Americans, British and French, who would establish a new
democratic government that stood in direct opposition to Communism. Because of the citizen s
emigration to West Germany, East Germany government decided to seal the border to stop their
people keep moving to the West. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Second, Article 106, Section 3.2 of the Basic Law requires the entire political system to guarantee a
uniformity of living standards across the country (Ibid). These two articles provide a foundation for
the Länder to fulfill their duties and to work with the federal government to insure the requirement of
uniform living standards. In essence, proportionality requires that governments and agencies must take
legitimate actions that are the least intrusive or limiting upon a citizen s basic rights.
We all know that Germany s army has always been a big power in the world throughout history.
However, they had lost their power after the WWII and their country was divided by the winner of the
war. After a lot of struggle through the cold war, the army has now again emerged as one of the best
equipped armies of the world...The military armament of the German army is enormous. Bundeswehr,
the German army, is one now of the most powerful and technically advanced armies in the world. It
also has one of the best infrastructure and war machinery. . Currently, there are approximately 11000
German citizens who voluntarily do up to a year of military service. German s army is getting

With the goal of ensuring that all preschools in California offer highquality programs, the California
Department of Education collaborated with leading early childhood educators, researchers, advocates,
and parents to develop Volume 2 of the preschool learning foundations. The foundations outline key
knowledge and skills that most children can achieve when provided with the kinds of interactions,
instruction, and environments shown by research to promote early learning and development. Volume
2 focuses on three domains: visual and performing arts, physical development, and health. These
domains often receive less attention than some of the other domains, but they are equally important for
preschool children s overall learning and development. As research that is summarized in this volume
indicates, physical v vi exercise and healthy routines and nutritional choices set the stage for
lifelong healthy habits. The recent NAEYC report underscores the need for children to play outside,
use their large muscles, and engage in vigorous physical activities every day. Of course, the visual and
performing arts fuel both preschool children s imaginative play and creativity and also promote
learning in all domains, including physical skill development, cognitive development, and social
emotional development. I believe that these foundations will help guide and support all California
preschools in providing developmentally

What is Matav s Strategy? Has it been successful?
Matav restructure into four business area: business services, residential services, Internet and mobile.
The mid term strategic plan of Matav is: expansion in Hungary; regional penetration; organic growth
in existing product lines. Business units operate separate management teams, allowing each unit to
focus on their areas of enterprise. They develop mobile services to attract customers in order to pick
their product over competitors. Also, Matav was keen to expand through the Balkan region and
southeastern regions of Europe such as Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, due to its well performance in

Does Matav s international expansion plans make sense? Why?
YES
Rational expansion experience with the success of MakTel made Matav as a local expertise in
Southern Europe: Matav transferred its knowledge of a financial control system, professional
regulatory management and tariff packages to rebalance fixed line fees . Maktel increased the number
of fixed lines by 21 percent from 2000 to 2003 and mobile subscribers were five times higher in 2003
than in 2000. MakTel s performance was a possibility to show Deutsche Telecom that Matav was
capable. After result of MakTel, Deutsche Telecom offers it capital and other financial support and
treats Matav like a Central/Eastern European hub. An unsaturated market in fixed line and mobile
business made Montenegro a place worth to be acquiring. Also, Macedonian experience helped Matav
get into the Balkans become a lot more international.
If you were a member of the strategy group, what would you recommend as a mid term strategy to

Matav will achieve continuous growth while remaining an integrated telecommunication company.

It has caused a great amount of sickness and fatalities in countries that do not have access to vaccines
and in young children who have not been vaccinated. Its easy transmission has made it even more
difficult to be contained and controlled. This research paper provides a breakdown of what the measles
consists of and its genus and family. Information about how this disease is transmitted and the
symptoms contracted is also provided. Immunization is the suggested way to prevent any risks or

When travelers are round people that have this disease they are easily susceptible to catching it and
then bringing it back to their country and spreading it even more. Children are also at higher risk for
catching this disease than adults because parents chose to not vaccinate their children for their own
personal beliefs. People are in contact with multiple individuals on a daily basis. A person infected
with this virus can easily sneeze into the air and someone else can catch the virus by inhalation of that
same air. Anything from breathing an infected person s air to drinking out of their glass can be a risk
for catching the virus. The virus also can live on a surface for an extended amount of time. If an
individual is close to another individual with the virus, they are at risk of catching the virus. It is so
contagious that if one person has it, 90% of the people around him or her will also become infected if
they are not protected (CDC, 2016).
There are many symptoms caused by this disease. The main symptoms, like most diseases, are a cold
and fever. Soon after, it causes a cough, runny nose, and red eyes. Then a rash of tiny, red spots breaks
out. It starts at the head and spreads to the rest of the body (CDC, 2016). When being diagnosed for
measles there are many factors that health providers

Cummings and Bennett (DOH, 2012.) The Six C s include care, competence, courage, commitment,
compassion and care. These are the main focus area for nursing practice and are vital to giving
patients best care. As explained by the Department of Health (2012), competence is understanding the
needs of service users by using expertise, clinical and technical knowledge in order to provide them
with the best quality of care. Bradshaw (2008) explained that in order to provide good

White Collar Crime Costs American Tax Payers
White collar crime costs Americans tax payers an estimated $300 billion annually (White collar
Crime), but more importantly hurts millions of American emotionally and financially who put their
trust in stock market and financial institutions. Surprisingly, even with the astronomical cost only a
few perpetrators are ever indicted and even fewer receive any sort of punishment for their greed and
selfishness. On October 1, 2014 Florida had witness a rare indictment of not one or two but three
Florida bankers trying to side step FDIC into giving them a subsidy loan over $3 Million. Donald

Summary Of Empress Longyu s Abdication Of The Manchus
Proclamation of The Abdication of the Manchus, 1912 The Abdication of the Manchus was presented
to the people in a letter written by the Dowager Empress Longyu on February 24, 1912. In the letter, it
is stated that the Emperor wishes to follow the people s desire and the will of heaven that the people
should have a republican form of government. The Emperor expresses his feelings that all points of
the country should be united. Furthermore, the Emperor and his family s honor and glory dims in
comparison as to the desire of the people (Proclamation). With the events taking place, he abdicated
over concern for the future of the nation. The stamp of the Emperor and the signatures of those
ministers gave verification to the document. The letter s intent was simple and straightforward, to
bring into the conflicts and to form a government of all the people. A telltale remark in the last line
expresses concern that Dowager Empress Longyu wanted to save the life of the Emperor, ... and will
enjoy the respectful treatment of the nation (Proclamation). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The First Phase Of Strategy Work
Information collection
The first phase of strategy work is to gain the information of case company. Our case company is a
nonprofit organization MacMillan Cancer Support. The first thing we did is to get to understand how
charity works. After the first group meeting, we decided to find the information about the company
and the industry individually and then made a pool of collected information. As a student from China,
I knew little about charity because in my country charity is not a big industry and people seldom pay
attention to this field. Charity was a totally new thing to me and I started to learn it from scratch. At
the beginning, I felt a little perplexed and I did not know where to start my research work. I searched
in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We felt we needed to make some change to move forward then we turned to the framework we learned
the lectures.
Information analysis
Our first step was to identify the goal of MacMillan. Unlike profit driven company, charity s goal is
not to chase profit but to make the world better. Their intentions are always altruistic. According to
their homepage and their annual report we found their nine outcomes as their goals. They are devoted
to cancer support to make sure that everyone affected by cancer will not face the disease alone.
After specifying their goal, we moved to the environmental analysis. Since it was in the first few
weeks, we chose the PEST and five forces framework to use. When we started to analyze, a main
problem came to us. Since MacMillan is a nonprofit organization, the definition of its competitors
confused us. Should it be all the charities worldwide or only the local cancer charities? Through
looking up the textbooks and identifying the industry, we thought that in this industry they mainly
competed for the funding, so we defined their competitors as all the cancer charities which searched
for funding against MacMillan. Since the definition of their competitors has been clarified, we started
to look the industry. We thought the hospitals and hospices could be the substitutes of charity and the
new cancer charity would be the potential entrants. In the five

The Future Of Fiber Optics

The Future of Fiber Optics
I. What is Fiber Optics? Fiber optic technology is often discussed in a wide range of conversations.
This may be when people talk about TVs, phones, internet, or general technology. Fiber optics may
also be referred to when talking about light and optics. An optical fiber is defined as a flexible,
transparent fiber made by drawing glass (silica) or plastic to a diameter slightly thicker than that of
human hair (Wikipedia). These fibers are used as a means of light transmission from one end of the
fiber to the other end of the fiber and this is referred to as fiber optic communications. These fibers are
quite technologically advanced because they have the ability to transmit more data and at a quicker
rate than normal cables made of wire. There is also much less lost data when using fiber optic
technology. Clearly, the benefits of fiber optics are much greater than traditional wired cables. Fiber
optic cables are also used for the purpose of lighting and sensing. There are already many practical
applications of the technology such as lasers, but these applications are just the beginning of the
potential of this powerful technology.
II. How was Fiber Optics Discovered? Fiber optics as we know it today has been the result of a long
chain of inventions that all began with John Tyndall s 1854 discover that light can be conducted
through water and bent. Later in 1895, a

Ergotism in The Salem Witch Trials
Ergotism in Salem
The Salem Witch Trials were a horrendous event in the history of America and was the first of its
kind. A question that has risen up numerous times is what was the actual cause of the trials. We know
that a few girls made the first accusations, but why. I will now explain how Salem became one of the
most notorious towns in Massachusetts. Ergot poisoning was the cause for the witch trials as it caused
the girls to become crazed and delirious.
First you may ask yourself what exactly is Ergot poisoning. Ergot is a fungal disease of rye that grows
in the ear of the Cereal. Early colonists reported that they were dissatisfied with the common grass as
it made their cattle ill.Ergot was first medically reported only a few years before the trials. This means
that ergotism was a relevant disease at the time of the trials. You can acquire ergot poisoning simply by
eating contaminated bread therefore the girls would not know that they were being poisoned. Ergotism
Symptoms include crawling sensation in the skin and tingling in the fingers, vertigo, headaches,
disturbances in sensation, painful muscular contractions leading to convulsions and vomiting. A few of
the mental disturbances include mania, melancholia, psychosis, and delirium.(Caporeal 23)The
accusers may have lost their minds to this awful disease. The biting, pinching, and pricking with pins
may allude to the crawling sensations under the skin experienced by ergotism victims.(caporeal 25)

In 1970, Norma McCorvey, a single and pregnant woman in Texas wanted to get an abortion. The
state laws of Texas at that time stated that it was illegal to have an abortion in Texas. Even though the

Oskar Schindler s Good Deeds Essay
There is no doubt that Oskar Schindler s actions helped save many Jews during the Holocaust. His
acts of bravery allowed many Jews to survive the Nazi regime and bring forth a new generation of
Jews. We understand the outcome of Oskar Schindler s good deeds, but do we truly understand the
motives of his actions? What made a German industrialist so brave and devoted to saving the lives of
the persecuted? Did Oskar Schindler see right through the Nazi facade and see the evils and atrocities
it committed? In order for us to truly understand Mr. Schindler s true motives, we have to see his life
through the whole spectrum, from beginning to end. We have to observe Oskar Schindler s
upbringing, his activities before the Holocaust, his actions during the Holocaust, and his place in
history after the Holocaust. Only when we have studied this man s life in it s fullest can we truly come
to some understanding of why he was so motivated to do so much good and help the Jewish people
and also where he found the courage to stand up to the evils of Hitler and the Nazi regime. That is the
purpose of this investigation. However, before we begin to emerge ourselves in the life of Oskar
Schindler we have to begin with the lives of two pivotal figures in Oskar s life, Franziska Luser and
Hans Schindler. Hans Schindler, father of Oskar Schindler, was a farm equipment manufacturer and
Franziska Luser, mother of Oskar Schindler, was a homemaker. On 28 April 1908, in Svitavy in the

A book by Joseph J. Ellis.

Joseph J. Ellis, a historian who was educated at the College of William and Mary and Yale, is a Ford
Foundation Professor of History at Mount Holyoke University. He has written four books on historical
topics, centered on the time Jefferson was alive, dealing with issues and personalities Jefferson dealt
with firsthand. After authoring a book on a politician such as John Adams, Ellis seems to have felt a

contributor to the constitution.

This trait in Ellis s writing and teaching style is what really grabbed me and got me interested in the
book. How wise is the person who realizes that as scholarly as they may be, there may always be a
better opinion out there? Joseph has presented to me a most noble way to write. He has circumvented
my prejudice against authors who insist that their ideas and methods are the only thoughts that exist.
In terms of the presentation of information, Ellis pieced together the life and work of Jefferson
according to eras, or phases in the life of Thomas J. Starting with Philadelphia 1775 1776, Jefferson s
story begins as the prominent, educated young man entering a world of radical politicians and
commoners striving for their independence. This chapter describes how Jefferson established himself
as an excellent literary figure in the developing American insurrection by publishing a pamphlet
entitled, A summary view of the rights of British America. This document, though never officially
accepted as a plan of action was simple and emphatic, with a dramatic flair that that previewed certain
passages in the Declaration of Independence (e.g., Single acts of tyranny may be ascribed to the
accidental opinion of the day; but a series of oppressions, begun at a distinguished period, and pursued
unalterably thro every change of ministers, too plainly prove a deliberate, systematical plan of

Golden Age Of Piracy
Villains of All Nations, by Marcus Rediker, is a collection of ideas and information about pirates in
the Golden Age of Atlantic piracy, between the years 1650 and 1730. This book is a collection of the
unprecedented social and cultural history of pirates, mainly at sea, but also before they became pirates,
and how piracy affected maritime culture. It delves into the ideas and realities of pirate life and helps
further an understanding of piracy during this time. Rediker claims, The pirates of the 1710s and
1720s were among the greatest ever in the long history of robbery by sea (Rediker 8). The text
explores the Golden Age of piracy and the generation that shaped the modern, romanticized view of
pirates. Rediker begins by claiming, pirates were among the most violent during the Golden Age of
piracy. At sea, pirates wreaked havoc by capturing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many people of the time became pirates because they believed pirate ships had better conditions than
other sea services, but this was a misconception. Privateers were not always happy ships. Some
captains ran their ships like naval vessels (44). Furthermore, Enslaved Africans ... sought to escape
slavery; fishermen sought to escape peonage; transported felons sought to escape ... servitude; and
sailors sought to escape impressment or deadly conditions aboard a ship (58). Rediker claims people
also became pirates because they were greedy and wanted money. According to Stephen Smith, a
pirate during the Golden Age of piracy, Money meant simply getting a living (56). Pirate ships were
comprised of both genders and many races and ages, however, the average pirate was between the
ages of 15 and 40, and originated from Great Britain. Rediker states, nationalities included, British,

Diamond Peak Research Paper
If you have played Harvest Moon or Stardew Valley, then Diamond Peak may be a free to play game
you would want to invest some time in. Here, you will take the role of a new guy in town which has a
strong sense of community, filled with industrious people who wouldn t give any second thoughts to
help you out. It s a point and click game, much like Farmville, but has outstanding RPG elements,
especially when you re out there to interact with the locals. It s a decent game, but its tutorial and its
freemium elements need to be improved.
Diamond Peak is a small town that is thriving and flourishing, thanks to the numerous farm lands, and
of course, the diamond ores lying about. When you re dropped into the game s world, you will

Performing them is a must to clear quests handed out by the town s residents. Of course, you ll be
receiving rewards, like experience, gold, and resources whenever you accomplish them. These can be
accessed through your quest log on the upper left corner of the screen, and if you re having trouble,
there s a help feature which can direct you to the area of the map wherein you can perform the task.
One of the worst aspects of the game is you re unable to travel to new locations unless you finish a
truckload of tasks the NPCs are asking you to do.
Diamond Peak s controls are simple: it uses a point and click mechanic. Want to move to another area
on the map? Click on the desired spot. Furthermore, the user interface is intuitive: everything you
need is there, and navigating around the shops, your friends farmsteads, and on the other elements is
pretty simple.
In terms of graphics, presentation and art style, Diamond Peak is further ahead in most aspects. It
follows an art style which resembles old American art, while the graphics are pretty decent in today s
standards. Moreover, the drawings presented in the loading screens are pretty amusing, with animals,

Personal Narrative Essay About Summer 2016
We re only several days away from 2017 and I m sure we can all agree that 2016 was a really, almost

Brief History of the Nra
Brief History of the NRA
The National Rifle Association in its simplest form is the largest gun club in the world. The
organization was founded in 1871 by former Union Army officers to encourage sport shooting in order
to have a fine tuned militia in case of emergency. The Union officers believed that a well regulated
militia was integral for the security of a free state. It is an organization that opposes gun control, it
believes in the individual defense of the uses of firearms, and it is interested in all aspects of shooting
sports.1 Today, the organization stands with approximately 3.4 million members.

gun delaying measures in place.
These states and D.C. account for 63% of all violent crimes; including 58% of all murders.9 California
which is exempt because it has a 15 day waiting period, has more murders and violent crimes than any
other state. New York which is also exempt due to a licensing law has the second greatest number of
murders and other violent crimes.10 Since the bill was enacted, only 22 states are subject to the 5 day
wait. The Brady bill serves to be irrelevant in most violent crimes anyway. Seven out of ten violent
crimes are not committed with firearms.
90% of rapes, 59% of robberies, and 76% of assaults are committed with knives, clubs, feet, or a

right to own a firearm according to the Second Amendment of the Constitution. It says that a well

Economic Growth Of The Indo Pacific Region
Introduction
Economic growth in the Indo Pacific region is considered high. Many countries in the region sustain
its economic growth from 3 7% for the last decade. The growth is spurred by three giants Asian
countries namely, China, Japan and India. Along with the economic growth, energy consumption has
increased as well. In 2011 China s oil consumption was 9,790,000 bbl/day, Japan 4,464,000 bbl/day
and India 3,292,000 bbl/day. China, Japan and India were ranked two, three and four respectively just
under United States oil consumption.
Seizing over energy has colored the international political relationships in the region. Six countries
namely, the People s Republic of China (PRC), Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Brunei
Darussalam and the Republic of China/Taiwan have been involved in Spratly and Paracel islands
dispute for decades while Indonesia and Malaysia over Ambalat block.
In 2030, it is predicted that energy production will decline sharply while consumption will be
increased. The gap between energy production and consumption could be the source of conflict.
Furthermore, in this anarchy international system and Self help, war/conflict becomes one of the
plausible choices. This essay will discuss the security threat posed in the Indo Pacific region caused by
the struggle for energy and its transportation.

WHAT IS DUALISM?

Significance of Pericles Death
Significance of Pericles Death
The death of Pericles was a significant event in the course of the Peloponnesian War; however, even
without Pericles leadership the Athenian Assembly had countless opportunities to prevent their loss
and chose not to take them. The fickleness and inefficiency of democracy ( the mob ) allowed the
Athenians to be easily influenced and therefore electing populists such as Cleon, Lysicles and
Hyperbolus into dominant leadership roles. Election, via democratic means, of such populists, meant
that the Athenians would take a much more aggressive approach to the war and therefore abandon the
policies that Pericles had previously established. So in turn, democracy the institution for which the

The fact that Alcibiades, one of the three commanders, was recalled for committing sacrilegious
activities, worsened their predicament, and deprived the Athenian military of the one leader who could
have possibly brought success. These factors greatly influenced the outcome of the expedition and
even after substantial losses had occurred, the Assembly continued to refuse Nicias request for
withdrawal. Instead, the Athenians sent major reinforcements to Sicily, and suffered a massive defeat
at the hands of the Peloponnesians. This then left Athens exposed and substantially defenceless,
remaining in this somewhat unfavourable position for sometime. The role of Alcibiades throughout
the expedition, and the remainder of the war, was extremely important, if not vital to the final outcome
of the conflict, proving to be a determining factor of the Athenians fate.
Brought up from a similar background to that of his uncle, Alcibiades was an extremely ambitious and
inconsistent leader, becoming a dominant factor in the downfall of Athens. His ambitious and self

The Complex Process Of Digestion Of The Human Body
Most of us think that the process that takes place in our stomach after we eat a meal it s very easy and

simple thought of food, after that the body starts preparing the stomach for the food that is about to be

Abstract On Selection Performance

Essentialism is an educational philosophy in which it is...
Essentialism is an educational philosophy in which it is important to promote and instill cultural
literacy in all students (Morrison, 2009, p.338). Teachers only teach the basic skills that they think are
necessary for educational and cultural growth. I noticed several things throughout my experience with
the school system which leads me to suggest that our school system is based on the philosophy of
essentialism. Essentialists believe that a curriculum that develops cultural literacy and basic skills is
needed.
In my experience, I grew up in a school system that incorporated the essentialism philosophy into their
teaching styles. My teachers focused on reaching standards set by the state. The students were

However, given the choice to choose any other educational philosophy I would choose progressivism
because I think that it is most effective in encouraging student involvement.
I think that class discussions are very important in helping students learning and become more
comfortable in the learning environment. The first time that I participated in this type of discussion
was in college in my public policy class, and that made it so much easier to talk in class. Before being
in this type of class, I had a really big public speaking fear but this class has helped me overcome this
fear. By opening up these channels of communications, teachers will find it easier to communicate
with their students.
I would attempt to reach the standards by motivating students and providing a comforting atmosphere
in which I would encourage student success. I disapprove of the essentialist view regarding only
teaching basic skills which are necessary for becoming functional members of society (Morrison,
2009, p. 341). To help students become productive members of society, we should provide them with
tools that will help them succeed in the future. For example, instead of focusing on basic skills, we
should teach diverse cultural views and broaden the scope of the academic programs offered. I agree
that a good academic foundation is necessary to build on, but it is just as important to provide students
with a broader world view.

Dysrhythmia Research Paper
A normal heart beats 60 to 100 beats per minute. However, those who suffer from arrhythmia (also
known as dysrhythmia) have an irregular or abnormal heartbeat; either too fast or too slow. It is
important to diagnose arrhythmia early because when the heart beats irregularly, the blood is not being
pumped properly which could lead to heart defects and improper blood flow throughout the body.
People who are diagnosed with this disorder are at risk of future heart disease. Arrhythmia is not
contagious but some heart rhythm disorders are often inherited, so if one person is diagnosed with an
arrhythmia, other family members may be affected too.
Fortunately, there are life changing actions that can reduce the risk of developing arrhythmia or heart
disease. There is no cure for it but depending on the type and severity of the arrhythmia, medication
and other forms of treatment can reduce symptoms and regulate the heartbeat. This includes: regular
exercising, controlling cholesterol levels, eating a balanced diet, stopping or limiting caffeine drinks,
reducing high blood pressure, and avoiding alcohol or tobacco products. It is also important to always

Modernist Painting By Clement Greenberg
In his essay, Modernist Painting (1960), Clement Greenberg seeks to lay principles for evaluating the
progression of art to modern painting. Greenberg makes a lot of evaluations and assessments about
modern paintings that are credible and can be held to a high standard. Despite his best efforts, some of
his assertions are shrouded in generalizations and lack the necessary premises to be established as
entirely objective and affirmative. Greenberg claims that the Old Masters created space one could
imagine walking into and experience, but modern painters, on the other hand, create space only
accessible to the visual senses, eye. His observations regarding these Old Masters is undeniable for the
most part, but his assertions on modern paintings brings up a lot of controversy.
To question Greenberg, one must first understand how the representation of depth of space evolved
over time. The full range of this evolution cannot be mapped in this essay, thus only relevant and
specific ones will be discussed. Dating back to the 16th century, the Renaissance painters saw a
heightening of perspective painting. By imitating how distant and close objects appear to the eye, the
optical illusion of space is created by a geometric representation of unfolding space. Rafael s Marriage
of the Virgin, 1504 (fig.1) is a prominent paragon to reflect on regarding this technique. With defined
lines and patterns leading to the doorway of the background building, Rafael gives the audience a

Social Responsibility And Health Care
Nursing is more than just the physical care that is delivered; it is the protection and promotion of
health, the alleviation of suffering and the prevention and treatment of illness and injury (AHPRA,
2015). Workplace citizenship and its three core elements of team work, social responsibility and
communication are essential in the nursing profession to develop skills and give the best nursing care
that is possible, because of how these elements work individually as well as together. This essay will
explore the negative and positive effects of each core element and how it affects the care that is
delivered by nurses.
Communication in nursing is an essential skill which allows nurses to capably deliver effective and
efficient care. Nurses being providers of health care must be able to recognise and prevent barriers that
may occur throughout the communication process as their job is to primarily interact with patients in a
culturally diverse workplace (Dwyer, 2012). Barriers such as health illiteracy and poor communication
play an important role on the care that is delivered by nurses and other health care providers. In 2006
an adult literacy and life skills survey was conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS),
information collected from the survey had shown that 59% of the Australian adult population
displayed low health literacy skills. This high figure indicates that nearly 6 out of 10 Australians over
the age of eighteen may not be able to make appropriate

Pros And Cons Of Internet Privacy
Most people think of their privacy as one of their most prized possessions. In the world today we are
finding ourselves having less and less privacy with the increased use of the internet. When someone
goes online their private information can be stolen by hackers and grifters but it can also be taken by
companies like Google and Facebook legally. A bill was passed in Washington that gave companies
even easier access to people s private information. In this composition I will talk about the legal and
ethical parts of it and how this has come to be. Sites people regularly access like Google and Facebook
can be taking their information and profiting off of it. On March 23, 2017 the senate voted to repeal
new online privacy laws. These laws made by the Obama administration were supposed to give people
a right to more privacy online. Tom Wheeler, the former FCC chairman, said, While everyone was
focused on the latest headline crisis coming out of the White House, Congress was able to roll back
privacy. The vote was swept under the rug so no one had enough time to properly fight this bill from
being made which made many people extremely angry. This bill would ve definitely helped give
people more privacy but large companies fought it. It s plainly obvious that this bill wasn t made to
help the people but to help corporations. With the law repealed big companies were given the go

Corporate Governance And Corporate Disclosure Essay
Corporate Governance
The primary emphases of the SOX are to enhance the quality and transparency of corporate disclosure
and force changes in the auditing of publicly traded companies. The first thing that SOX has an
improvement is on the responsibility of company s financial reports and disclosure which is connected
with the section 302. The act requires the manager to certify the accuracy of the financial statement
personally. If the chief executive CEO, chief financial officer CFO or other top manager knowing or
willfully makes a false certification, he would be face 10 or 20 years in the prison. Also, if the
company had the accounting restatement due to the manager s misconduct, he still has to give up the
bonuses or profits made from selling the company s stock.
Another major change is on the auditor side. The SOX gets a increase in the audit committee s
independence form the company and its responsibility regarding the company s auditors. The audit
committee receives large and wide leverage in the overseeing the company s chief executive CEO,
chief financial officer CFO or other top managers accounting decision. Also, the audit committee
member must be independent from the top management and have the responsibility like approving
many audit and non audit services.
What s more, the control is required for the public companies. the section 404 ask the company to
perform the extensive internal control tests. Which include an internal control report of annual audits.

In today s day and age when people think of country music they imagine the classics, Johnny Cash,
Willie Nelson, George Strait and many more. When people think of a redneck, they imagine a diehard
country boy, who loves his country with a confederate flag in one hand and a beer in the other. But
that is our generations take on these two words. The real question here is what did those two words
mean to the people who came up with them and defined them. It couldn t have been easy. It was no
surprise that people were still recovering from the Great Depression and the more recent recession.
Families were left destitute, men were working factory jobs for less than minimum wage, if that, and
people had just about given up hope. In the time of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was huge for individuals considering people were being grouped together under general labels,
such as white trash , hillbilly and redneck . Not only were they being grouped, it was being publicized
on talk shows, through music, books, movies, news outlets and many more forms of media. What the
upper class people failed to see when they were stereotyping was, While these labels developed in
different contexts and are sometimes used in different ways, they have evolved into virtually
synonymous labels demarcating a problematic whiteness polluted by poverty and rural culture
(Southern Rock Musicians: Construction of White Trash Pg.207). Middle and upper class men and
women felt the need to put poor, white families down to make themselves seem that much higher up,
but in reality it was an out for taking responsibility for patriarchy. If anything these titles the poor,
white men were given were just a way to define inequalities and social problems that society wanted
to make apparent to hide from their own personal problems.
When America today sees a Confederate Flag being flown or displayed, there is usually a controversy
that occurs. People in todays society still believe that it is a symbol of racism and just inappropriate to
be flying considering our country s history. Obviously not much has changed since the 1970 s. People
back then believed it was racial bigotry and a symbol of uneducated white trash. To an extent this

Nietzsche s Partial Rebuttal Of The Birth Of Tragedy
That being said, I argue that we should understand Nietzsche s partial rebuttal of The Birth of Tragedy
as a development of his former positions about Metaphysics. For sure his idiosyncracies with the term
have grown over the years: at this stage, metaphysics simply tends to be employed just in a negative
way, often describing what falls into the cauldron of Platonic Christian Ressentiment. Nonetheless, we
should not let a shift in terms of vocabulary mislead us. Once more, the problem for Nietzsche is not
metaphysics as such, but just the values embodied by a particular metaphysics . This finds evidence in
that, while he rejects the metaphysics of the duality of Apollo and Dionysus, in the late Nietzsche art
still enjoys a crucial role.

Differences between The Birds the Movie and The Birds...
The Birds
The Birds, the movie was directed by Alfred Hitchcock and was based on the short story The Birds
written by Daphne du Murrier. If you would have read the book and then watched the movie, you
would see that very few things are the same. In both the short story and the movie flocks of gulls,
robins, crows, and sparrows join each other. This is really weird because different species of birds
never work together. The story and the film both have the same climate. It is cold and chilly; the
ground is frozen and it will be a black winter. The climate gives the versions of the story a creepy and
suspenseful feeling.
Each version also has the main characters boarding up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Is Melanie or the lovebirds really evil in the film, or in the story is it just the black winter and the
tides?
The short story and the film have differences too but none of these differences really affected the main
plot. The short story s setting is placed just south of London, England right after World War II. The
films setting is in Bodega Bay just a little ways away from San Francisco and takes place in the 1960
s. In the film a mad woman accused Melanie of bringing evil and causing the attacking of the birds. In
the story birds attacked when the tide came in and in the film the birds attack at different times, over
and over.
The characters are totally different in the two versions. The short story s main characters are a family;
a husband, a wife, and two children. The film s characters are a woman and a man, and the man s
mother and younger sister.
In the film, it shows more of the school and the children then it does in the short story. The radio is
also more involved in the short story then it is in the film.
More events happen in the film, such as the fire at the gas station and the restaurant. The film shows
more details then the short story and helps you visualize the attacks more.

Edward De Vere
The authorship of all of Shakespeare s genius literature is the biggest detective story. It is one that has
brought curiosity to the world for centuries and is still very alive today. Has a man who had no
evidence that he had ever gone to school, composed brilliant pieces of literature known to all of
mankind? It is highly unlikely. There must have been someone else. Scholars are now speculating as
to whether Edward De Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford, is the true author of all of Shakespeare s
publications,
Edward De Vere was born in the Hedingham Castle. One of his tutors at the time was Laurence
Nowell, who owned a copy of Beowulf. In 1558, Edward De Vere attended Cambridge and Oxford
University in 1566. Another tutor of his was Queen Elizabeth s ... Show more content on

However, William Shakespeare never claimed the publications. Neither did Edward De Vere, but that
was because he would be looked down upon.
I have read many of the reasons as to why the 17th Earl of Oxford depicts a better candidate for these
writings. The same has been done for William Shakespeare. It isn t likely that a person who is
uneducated and without experience, to write literature with as much intellect as they all contain.
Edward De Vere was a graduate at the age of 14. A man with that much genius must have published
something in his life. It would ve been a shame if he hadn t.
I think it is as clear as day for people to see why Edward De Vere was the author of all Shakespeare s
literature. He was experienced and intelligent. He traveled to places in which Shakespeare s plays take
place and he had an abundance amount of knowledge about the lives of those living with a high status.
Experts state that many of the publications can be matched to a certain event in Edward De Vere s

Obedience To Authority In Cool Hand Luke
*There are many movies that make the contrast of the lives of prisoners and their guards. So often do
we see a colorful group of people who struggle under the control of a tyrannical leader, struggling to
keep both their spirits and sanity up. Cool Hand Luke is not an exception to these films. However, it
does contain a main character with a nonchalant type attitude that irks his superiors and earns respect
from his fellow prisoners, which is not often seen. This leads to him becoming a very popular
character in the prison, specifically to his new admirer Dragline. Dragline the former head honcho
among the prisoners grew quite fond of Luke due to his admiration for Luke s coolness. This new
relationship would cause Dragline as well as Luke ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These situations would most often be caused by the hierarchical structure amongst the inmates rather
than, between them and the guards. In my essay I will show how the rise in power by Luke and the
drop in power of Dragline exhibit themes of obedience to authority, conformity and non conformity.*
Before Luke came around Dragline played the role of the boss beneath the bosses. He would keep
people in line, resulting in him and the guards having an unspoken understanding. He conforms to
rules and standards he is expected to and the other inmates follow suit. This shows when the new
inmates (including Luke) showed up, and one of them gets scammed into buying a better job that does
not exist. He tells the boss he made a deal with the inmate only to find out it wasn t real and gets a
night in the box. Dragline believes he deserved it, stating he back sassed a free man, they got their
rules and we ain t got nothing to do with that. He gotta learn the rules the same as anybody else.
(Rosenberg, Caroll, 1967). These are the type of situations that have given Dragline the type of power
he possess. If he complies with what his authorities tell him to, he himself will gain some sort of
power over people beneath

Essay on Ludwig Van Beethoven
When you look at the world and all the people on it as a whole, you see that there are very few
influential people whose actions or opinions strongly influence the course of events. Ludwig Van
Beethoven, a German musician, is one of those very few. He was an extraordinary musician that lived
through hardship and had the horrific fate of deafness, any musician s worst nightmare. Beethoven left
a wall standing in history that captured the art of sounds and worked it beyond imagination into music
so fragile and pure yet onerous, unable to be matched by any succeeding composer. His determination
to push music forward, go beyond the thinkable, and make it his own, has made a huge impact on all
music forever going forward.
Beethoven had a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead, he worked with HAYDN and J. G. Albrechtsberger. Soon Beethoven would begin to make his
mark as a pianist and as a daring and unorthodox composer. (Literary Reference Center)
When Beethoven was 28, in 1798, he began seeing signs of deafness; this progressively got worse. He
struggled against the gradual loss of his hearing. For a musician, there is nothing more tragic. A deaf
musician is like a painter without fingers, a soccer player without feet. Beethoven could not hear the
sound of musical instruments or the pitch of a single note. Although his fate challenged him,
miraculously, his best works were completed after he went deaf. (History Reference Center) Although
it may seem like Beethoven was barely hazed by his deafness, it actually brought him great stress.
Beethoven steadily started drawing away from people and close friends; as the lack of hearing grew he
got really frustrated at times. He got to where he stopped caring about his appearance, left his hair
tangled and uncombed, clothes tattered and rumpled. He became really bitter and unpleasant to be
around; if one of his maids brought him soup he didn t like, he would just smash the bowl on the
ground. Beethoven was alone in the world, and that is why towards the end of his life his music was
even more emotional and expressive.
Ludwig Van Beethoven was a very prolific composer and had a vast

Legal And Ethical Practices Of Adolescent Counseling
Legal and Ethical Practices in Adolescent Counseling
As a 15 yearold at risk adolescent, Manual recently reported feeling extreme depression and admitted
that he no longer cared about living. In order to provide useful counseling support to Manuel, J.
McWhirter, B. McWhirter, E. McWhirter, and R. McWhirter (2013) provide a list of legal and ethical
considerations that serve as a guidelines during interventions. These suggestions include counselors
documenting the incident and any intervention methods, consulting with colleagues in order to
provide sound counsel, encouraging staff members to be considerate and professional within their
communication, reaching out to the adolescents families, and keeping current with professional ...

If Manuel s answers demonstrate imminent danger, emergency services should be called immediately
and all information gathered from the initial conversation should be documented.
For the purposes of this paper, an assumption that Manuel is not in immediate danger is made, and he
chooses to sign a written contract stating that he will not make any attempt on his life before having
another discussion with a counselor. While a written contract cannot guarantee that Manuel will not
choose to harm himself during this period, adolescents who sign this type of contract will typically
comply. At this point, a follow up meeting is scheduled, which will allow time to consider the
assessment information in formulating the scope of the problem, and provide intervention strategies
for Manuel s continued treatment (McWhirter et al., 2017).
Consultation and Supervision In order to provide Manuel with the best therapeutic approaches,
colleagues should be consulted, who are willing to question the intervention strategies from not only a
therapeutic perspective, but also keeping in mind ethical and legal guidelines (McWhirter et al., 2013).
One method of consultation that is proving to be helpful is the formation of consultations groups who
serve many functions for the clinician, including the development and refinement of therapeutic skills,
assistance with case

I Was An Eiffel Tower
I observed Daphne, a preschooler, and her brother Damien, a toddler, at their home around 1 pm. They
are siblings. The observation lasted 30 minutes. I sat down on the couch and observed them at playing
wooden blocks. Once when I arrived at my friend s house, my friend placed a big black container box
at their playroom that contains of different shapes and sizes of wooden blocks. As their mom was
putting at the center, Daphne and Damien were excited to go at the center to play these wooden
blocks. Their floor is made of carpet. Daphne started to place a big rectangular wooden block
vertically at her first base and got a bridge shape wooden block and placed it on top of the rectangle
block. Then, she grabbed a short square wooden block ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

designs for her tower. Then, after a few minutes she made it and said I did it. While Damien was
walking around her piece, Daphne said, be careful. Damien went to the container and found a dish.
Daphne said to her mom, Look Mama, while pointing to a dish. Then, her mom said, he found a dish.
Damien kept looking around and found an animal fence. Damien added some wooden blocks to
Daphne s tower. The wooden block stayed still and Daphne said, Thanks. Damien added again some
wooden blocks carefully and Daphne was assisting him to put it in her tower. Daphne said to her
mom, Look we made a big tower. Damien kept adding to their work. The tower did not fall down as
he placed the last triangular wooden block. Then, Daphne got a ball to their couch and throw it to the
tower they made. She said, hoop and then, they both laughed. Then, they said together, again. Their
mom said, let s have a contest on who has a big tower will win. Then, they were both eager to start
their own tower by their own selves. At first attempt, their tower both fell down because of their fast

Analysis of the Increase in Charitable Giving Despite...
Despite 2008 seeing the largest annual drop ((5.6% decrease from 2007 in inflation adjusted dollars))
since these statistics have been tracked, over $300 billion was donated to charitable organizations
three quarters of which came from individual donors. (FOUDNATION CENTER CITATION) It is no
wonder then that such a large amount of academic study has been invested in the subject. A myriad of
studies have sought to investigate the motivations behind the phenomenon of charitable giving.
Everything from an individual s mood (Krebs, 1970; Piliavin Charng, 1990; Simmons, 1991), gender

Marketing literature has had an extensive history of promoting the utilization of capitalistic marketing
strategies by non profit organizations dating as far back as the 1960s. (Kotler) With ever decreasing
government contributions and an inundation of new nonprofits (and with it, new competition),
fundraising within the nonprofit sector has shifted from a discombobulated exercise of necessity to a
fundamental business operation similar to the advertising and branding campaigns of for profit
companies. (Schlegelmilch Ltd, 1988). The COCOA Experiment: So why do another study? While
previous studies focused on an individual s motivation for (and the characteristics of) giving to
charities in general, predicting the amount donated, or pro social characteristics related to donations

Be sure to include the types of rocks and their location during their paleontology work in 2004. The author and his colleagues specifically chose to focus on 375 million year old rocks in their search for fossils because this was the time frame that provided fish that would be useful to study from. The 385 million year old rocks provided fish that look too similar to the ones we have now and the 365 million year old rocks have fossils that don t resemble fish. The 375 million year old rocks, however, provide fossils that show the transition between fish and land living animals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Describe at least one of these experiments and explain the significance of the findings. In one of the experiments, Mary Gasseling took a little patch of tissue, early in development, from what would be the pinky side of a limb bud. She took that tissue and put it on the opposite side right beneath where the first finger would form. The chick would develop and form a wing; the new fingers were also copies of the normal set. Basically, the tissue (more specifically some molecule or gene inside the tissue) was able to direct the development of the pattern of the fingers. This led to further experiments that defined the ZPA, or the zone of polarizing activity. This patch of tissue is able to determine the difference between the pinky side and the thumb side. 2. Describe the hedgehog gene using several animal examples. Be sure to explain its function and its region of activity in the body. Hedgehog is a gene active in ZPA. ZPA is only located in little clusters and with this hedgehog gene, it creates a mirror image in limbs for the development and growth. The gene creates digits that are clearly different from one another depending on how close they are to the ZPA. The chicken version of the hedgehog gene was named Sonic hedgehog and it activates once Vitamin A is injected. All creatures have the Sonic hedgehog and they all can be activated by injecting Vitamin A. When tested on a skate, the Sonic hedgehog turned on at the same time as a ... • 3. Carbon is the Basis for Organic Chemistry Carbon is a chemical element with symbol C and atomic number 6. Its name originates from a Latin word carbo for charcoal. Carbon is a member of group 14 elements on the periodic table and is nonmetallic and tetravalent (make four bonds available to form covalent chemical bonds). It s the basis for organic chemistry as it occurs in living organisms also it s the fourth most abundant element in the universe. The allotropes of carbon are diamond, graphite and amorphous carbon. ALLOTROPES OF CARBON The existence in the same physical state of two or more structural forms of the same element is known as allotropy. Allotropes of carbon are the ability of carbon to exist in various forms in the same physical state. Carbon can exist in three different allotropic forms. These are diamond, graphite, and amorphous or non crystalline. Diamond and graphite form the crystalline carbon. DIAMOND Diamond is the hardest known natural mineral, which makes it a good abrasive. It s the purest form of naturally occurring carbon. It is found as colorless, lusterless solids, which can be transformed into brilliant gems. It consists of an array of bonded atoms. No discrete molecule can be distinguished. They are rare and found in volcanic rocks. Industrial use of diamond is in cutting, drilling, grinding and polishing. Diamonds are fixed in drill tips or saw, blades or ground to powder for grinding and polishing applications. Diamonds are specially used in laboratories as containment for high ... Our case company is a nonprofit organization MacMillan Cancer Support. The first thing we did is to get to understand how charity works. After the first group meeting, we decided to find the information about the company and the industry individually and then made a pool of collected information. As a student from China, I knew little about charity because in my country charity is not a big industry and people seldom pay attention to this field. Information analysis Our first step was to identify the goal of MacMillan. Unlike profit driven company, charity s goal is not to chase profit but to make the world better. Their intentions are always altruistic. According to their homepage and their annual report we found their nine outcomes as their goals. They are devoted to cancer support to make sure that everyone affected by cancer will not face the disease alone. After specifying their goal, we moved to the environmental analysis. Since it was in the first few weeks, we chose the PEST and five forces framework to use. When we started to analyze, a main problem came to us. Since MacMillan is a nonprofit organization, the definition of its competitors confused us. Should it be all the charities worldwide or only the local cancer charities? Through looking up the textbooks and identifying the industry, we thought that in this industry they mainly competed for the funding, so we defined their competitors as all the cancer charities which searched for funding against MacMillan. Since the definition of their competitors has been clarified, we started to look the industry. • 15. The Future Of Fiber Optics James Gourley PHS 208 Barrett Honors Contract Additional Research Report The Future of Fiber Optics I. What is Fiber Optics? Fiber optic technology is often discussed in a wide range of conversations. This may be when people talk about TVs, phones, internet, or general technology. Fiber optics may also be referred to when talking about light and optics. An optical fiber is defined as a flexible, transparent fiber made by drawing glass (silica) or plastic to a diameter slightly thicker than that of human hair (Wikipedia). These fibers are used as a means of light transmission from one end of the fiber to the other end of the fiber and this is referred to as fiber optic communications. These fibers are quite technologically advanced because they have the ability to transmit more data and at a quicker rate than normal cables made of wire. There is also much less lost data when using fiber optic technology. Clearly, the benefits of fiber optics are much greater than traditional wired cables. Fiber optic cables are also used for the purpose of lighting and sensing. There are already many practical applications of the technology such as lasers, but these applications are just the beginning of the potential of this powerful technology. II. How was Fiber Optics Discovered? Fiber optics as we know it today has been the result of a long chain of inventions that all began with John Tyndall s 1854 discover that light can be conducted through water and bent. A question that has risen up numerous times is what was the actual cause of the trials. We know that a few girls made the first accusations, but why. I will now explain how Salem became one of the most notorious towns in Massachusetts. Ergot poisoning was the cause for the witch trials as it caused the girls to become crazed and delirious. First you may ask yourself what exactly is Ergot poisoning. Ergot is a fungal disease of rye that grows in the ear of the Cereal. Early colonists reported that they were dissatisfied with the common grass as it made their cattle ill.Ergot was first medically reported only a few years before the trials. This means that ergotism was a relevant disease at the time of the trials. You can acquire ergot poisoning simply by eating contaminated bread therefore the girls would not know that they were being poisoned. Ergotism Symptoms include crawling sensation in the skin and tingling in the fingers, vertigo, headaches, disturbances in sensation, painful muscular contractions leading to convulsions and vomiting. A few of the mental disturbances include mania, melancholia, psychosis, and delirium.(Caporeal 23)The accusers may have lost their minds to this awful disease. The state laws of Texas at that time stated that it was illegal to have an abortion in Texas. His acts of bravery allowed many Jews to survive the Nazi regime and bring forth a new generation of Jews. We understand the outcome of Oskar Schindler s good deeds, but do we truly understand the motives of his actions? What made a German industrialist so brave and devoted to saving the lives of the persecuted? Did Oskar Schindler see right through the Nazi facade and see the evils and atrocities it committed? In order for us to truly understand Mr. Schindler s true motives, we have to see his life through the whole spectrum, from beginning to end. We have to observe Oskar Schindler s upbringing, his activities before the Holocaust, his actions during the Holocaust, and his place in history after the Holocaust. Only when we have studied this man s life in it s fullest can we truly come to some understanding of why he was so motivated to do so much good and help the Jewish people and also where he found the courage to stand up to the evils of Hitler and the Nazi regime. That is the purpose of this investigation. However, before we begin to emerge ourselves in the life of Oskar Schindler we have to begin with the lives of two pivotal figures in Oskar s life, Franziska Luser and Hans Schindler. Hans Schindler, father of Oskar Schindler, was a farm equipment manufacturer and Franziska Luser, mother of Oskar Schindler, was a homemaker. On 28 April 1908, in Svitavy in the Sudetenland, ... • 35. Modernist Painting By Clement Greenberg In his essay, Modernist Painting (1960), Clement Greenberg seeks to lay principles for evaluating the progression of art to modern painting. Greenberg makes a lot of evaluations and assessments about modern paintings that are credible and can be held to a high standard. Despite his best efforts, some of his assertions are shrouded in generalizations and lack the necessary premises to be established as entirely objective and affirmative. Greenberg claims that the Old Masters created space one could imagine walking into and experience, but modern painters, on the other hand, create space only accessible to the visual senses, eye. His observations regarding these Old Masters is undeniable for the most part, but his assertions on modern paintings brings up a lot of controversy. To question Greenberg, one must first understand how the representation of depth of space evolved over time. The full range of this evolution cannot be mapped in this essay, thus only relevant and specific ones will be discussed. Dating back to the 16th century, the Renaissance painters saw a heightening of perspective painting. By imitating how distant and close objects appear to the eye, the optical illusion of space is created by a geometric representation of unfolding space. Workplace citizenship and its three core elements of team work, social responsibility and communication are essential in the nursing profession to develop skills and give the best nursing care that is possible, because of how these elements work individually as well as together. This essay will explore the negative and positive effects of each core element and how it affects the care that is delivered by nurses. Communication in nursing is an essential skill which allows nurses to capably deliver effective and efficient care. Nurses being providers of health care must be able to recognise and prevent barriers that may occur throughout the communication process as their job is to primarily interact with patients in a culturally diverse workplace (Dwyer, 2012). Barriers such as health illiteracy and poor communication play an important role on the care that is delivered by nurses and other health care providers. In 2006 an adult literacy and life skills survey was conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), information collected from the survey had shown that 59% of the Australian adult population displayed low health literacy skills. In the world today we are finding ourselves having less and less privacy with the increased use of the internet. When someone goes online their private information can be stolen by hackers and grifters but it can also be taken by companies like Google and Facebook legally. A bill was passed in Washington that gave companies even easier access to people s private information. In this composition I will talk about the legal and ethical parts of it and how this has come to be. Sites people regularly access like Google and Facebook can be taking their information and profiting off of it. On March 23, 2017 the senate voted to repeal new online privacy laws. These laws made by the Obama administration were supposed to give people a right to more privacy online. Tom Wheeler, the former FCC chairman, said, While everyone was focused on the latest headline crisis coming out of the White House, Congress was able to roll back privacy. • 40. Corporate Governance And Corporate Disclosure Essay Corporate Governance The primary emphases of the SOX are to enhance the quality and transparency of corporate disclosure and force changes in the auditing of publicly traded companies. The first thing that SOX has an improvement is on the responsibility of company s financial reports and disclosure which is connected with the section 302. The act requires the manager to certify the accuracy of the financial statement personally. If the chief executive CEO, chief financial officer CFO or other top manager knowing or willfully makes a false certification, he would be face 10 or 20 years in the prison. Also, if the company had the accounting restatement due to the manager s misconduct, he still has to give up the bonuses or profits made from selling the company s stock. Another major change is on the auditor side. The SOX gets a increase in the audit committee s independence form the company and its responsibility regarding the company s auditors. The audit committee receives large and wide leverage in the overseeing the company s chief executive CEO, chief financial officer CFO or other top managers accounting decision. Also, the audit committee member must be independent from the top management and have the responsibility like approving many audit and non audit services. What s more, the control is required for the public companies. the section 404 ask the company to perform the extensive internal control tests. What the upper class people failed to see when they were stereotyping was, While these labels developed in different contexts and are sometimes used in different ways, they have evolved into virtually synonymous labels demarcating a problematic whiteness polluted by poverty and rural culture (Southern Rock Musicians: Construction of White Trash Pg.207). Middle and upper class men and women felt the need to put poor, white families down to make themselves seem that much higher up, but in reality it was an out for taking responsibility for patriarchy. If anything these titles the poor, white men were given were just a way to define inequalities and social problems that society wanted to make apparent to hide from their own personal problems. Nietzsche s Partial Rebuttal Of The Birth Of Tragedy That being said, I argue that we should understand Nietzsche s partial rebuttal of The Birth of Tragedy as a development of his former positions about Metaphysics. For sure his idiosyncracies with the term have grown over the years: at this stage, metaphysics simply tends to be employed just in a negative way, often describing what falls into the cauldron of Platonic Christian Ressentiment. Nonetheless, we should not let a shift in terms of vocabulary mislead us. Once more, the problem for Nietzsche is not metaphysics as such, but just the values embodied by a particular metaphysics . This finds evidence in that, while he rejects the metaphysics of the duality of Apollo and Dionysus, in the late Nietzsche art still enjoys a crucial role. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In both the short story and the movie flocks of gulls, robins, crows, and sparrows join each other. This is really weird because different species of birds never work together. Ludwig Van Beethoven, a German musician, is one of those very few. He was an extraordinary musician that lived through hardship and had the horrific fate of deafness, any musician s worst nightmare. Beethoven left a wall standing in history that captured the art of sounds and worked it beyond imagination into music so fragile and pure yet onerous, unable to be matched by any succeeding composer. (Literary Reference Center) When Beethoven was 28, in 1798, he began seeing signs of deafness; this progressively got worse. He struggled against the gradual loss of his hearing. For a musician, there is nothing more tragic. A deaf musician is like a painter without fingers, a soccer player without feet. Beethoven could not hear the sound of musical instruments or the pitch of a single note. Although his fate challenged him, miraculously, his best works were completed after he went deaf. (History Reference Center) Although it may seem like Beethoven was barely hazed by his deafness, it actually brought him great stress. Beethoven steadily started drawing away from people and close friends; as the lack of hearing grew he got really frustrated at times. He got to where he stopped caring about his appearance, left his hair tangled and uncombed, clothes tattered and rumpled. He became really bitter and unpleasant to be around; if one of his maids brought him soup he didn t like, he would just smash the bowl on the ground. Beethoven was alone in the world, and that is why towards the end of his life his music was even more emotional and expressive. Ludwig Van Beethoven was a very prolific composer and had a vast ...
