Critic And Stigmatisms In Kate Chopin s The Awakening
Critics and Stigmatisms
It was not necessary for a writer of so great refinement and poetic grace to enter the overworked field
of sex fiction , reviews following Chopin s literary awakening, (The Chicago Times Herald 1). The
Awakening contains brilliant images, resilient protagonists, and vulgar sexuality. Kate Chopin utilizes
potent imagery and burning sexual passion as character motives to transcend Edna Pontellier from
social restrictions. A mold so bleak in nature that its oppressive grasp extends far beyond any one
generation. The Awakening centers the main protagonists as individuals with complex desirers beyond
generic characters. Chopin s The Awakening challenged the pseudo personas that society condemned
the protagonist to uphold.
The sensational appetite of Chopin s characters peeked into the feminine mentality. Upon the release
of The Awakening, the St. Louis Globe Democrat, rightly so, noticed the amoral actions of Edna
Pontellier. Stating It is not a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Beluga Whale Research Paper
This research focused on a beluga whale (Delphinapterus leucas) population located in St, Lawrence
Estuary that had gone from 5,000 to 500 in number since the start of the century. The question they
were trying to answer was; how much do the chlorine containing chemicals (organochlorines) in the
environment affect the production, maintenance and repair of body tissue in beluga whales? This
research was started because huge amounts of toxins were found in some tissues that had serious
lesions in the dead bodies of some beluga whales. This research was conducted in vitro on spleen cells
and thymus cells which were intentionally exposed to these chemicals because this where the beluga
whales had the most white blood cells to fight of infections and help the cells regain accuracy in their
function. The two main factors that were being tested were viability or the potential for the cells to
recover from damage and proliferation, the increase in cell number a ... Show more content on

The results of this experiment revealed that with regards to viability, the chemicals infected and killed
off more thymocytes than splenocytes. Considering that they thymus has more lymphocytes than the
spleen, the researchers concluded that the chemicals had a really bad effect on the whales which is
why the whales tissue were not healing because they were completely killed by these chemicals.
While the results for the cell s proliferation were not as bad in thymocytes as they were in splenocytes.
The splenocytes could not make much of themselves as they normal would, their ability to divide was
inhibited by the chemicals. The results were slightly different for each of the three organochlorines.
Some of the chemicals did nothing but slow proliferation without actually killing off the cells while
others did kill the

Analysis Of The BBC Real Estate Programme
The BBC started in 2001 a programme aimed to reduce the size of its property estate, in line with their
strategy to offer the licence fee payers better value for money. This report seeks to analyse how the
BBC managed its real estate programme and if the management benchmarks with the framework for
large capital programme management offered by ____. Lessons learnt from this programme will be
extracted, and it will be assessed whether the BBC is ultimately working towards its Value for Money
and Quality First Strategy, through the implementation of its estate programme.
1. INTRODUCTION (335)
The British Broadcasting Corporation also known as the BBC, is one of the oldest public broadcasting
companies in the world. Funding its operation mainly through licence fees paid by the public
(Encyclopaedia Britannica, 2016), the BBC and its Trust have the responsibility of spending public
funds efficiently and ensuring public value and appeal (BBC Trust, 2016).
Throughout its history the BBC has attempted to become more cost effective. Since the launch of the
producer choice strategy in 1993 (Felix, 2000), it has been argued that to achieve this they have
battled not only the issues of managerial bureaucracy (Harris et al., 2006), but also the inherent costs
of adapting its infrastructure to new broadcasting technologies (Wegg Prosser, 2001).
In a more recent stride and following the guidance from the BBC Governors and internal auditors, the
BBC set new strategic objectives in

Analysis Of The Book The Ugly American
The book The Ugly American clearly demonstrates several of the established Special Operations
Force (SOF) imperatives outlined in ADRP 6 22. As a Special Forces soldier I can relate these
imperatives to stories illustrated in the book and apply them to real life situations that I have
experienced in the field. The Ugly American is a goldmine of wisdom and a handbook for special
warfare. All Special Operations soldiers should read it. The first SOF imperative is to Understand the
Operational Environment. The character of Ambassador MacWhite clearly illustrates this imperative
during his preparation for his new assignment as Ambassador to Sarkhan. He learns the language,
researches their history and political life, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would have been my sixth trip to the Philippines. However, this trip was different. Our
detachment never had a trained Intelligence Sergeant, so our senior Communications Sergeant took it
upon himself to prepare a cultural study and information brief for the detachment. I was so impressed;
he broke down the demographics, the religious conflicts, and addressed political and economic
considerations. I learned more in that brief than I had from the five previous exercises in the
Philippines. At that time, I was no different from Ambassador Sears. I displayed arrogance over our
counterparts. I viewed them as less than us, uninterested in training, and lazy. Looking back, why
would they be interested in anything we had to offer? We neglected to develop personal relationships
with them, dictated their training according to our needs, and bossed them around on the range like
subordinates. Like Sears, I did not try to learn the language. It was not my target language, so I did not
consider it a priority, even though I had predictable reoccurring engagements there. I went to western
style parties and ate at western style restaurants. Ultimately, I trained hard and had a tight shot group,
but never realized I was aiming at the wrong target. About a year latter, I reached my Date Of Return
from Over Seas (DEROS) and left the CIF. I spent the next three years as an instructor. When I
returned to a detachment, it was as the Team

contains hydrothermal features like Old Faithful s geyser, wildlife, vegetation, lakes and more. Within
the 2.2 acres are habitats and wildlife that are unique to the park. There are three main habitats within
Yellowstone. First is the Alpine Tundra. This dry, rocky, mountainous area is home to a significant
mountain goat population. Next, the mountain meadows are areas of grass that can be small or up to
thousands of acres. They are home to elk and mule deer, among others. Finally, the sage steppe
grasslands are treeless areas perfect for wildflowers and shrubs, and are where you will likely find
bison. Yellowstone is home to the largest

The Importance Of Language Development
As children grow and develop, they re developing their language skills. Some children learn to speak
and comprehend faster than others. Language development is important because it is the way we
communicate and exchange information with others in our everyday lives. If there are any language
delays, issues with communication and relaying of information can occur. There are many different
components of language development.
Phonology is the use of sounds, semantics is the use of words and word associations, grammar is the
way sentences are composed and pragmatics involves proper and competent communications (Berk
2012, p. 359 360).
In a child s first three years they can hear, imitate, explore, and practice language. Babies are born ...

In order for someone to become fully competent in any language, exposure must begin as early as
possible, preferably before school age (Statistics on Voice, Speech, and Language).
There are three types of language disorders: receptive language, expressive language and mixed
receptive expressive language. Receptive language issues are difficulties with understanding what
someone is saying, expressive language issues are difficulties with expressing thoughts and ideas, and
mixed receptive expressive language issues are difficulties understanding and using spoken language
(Understanding Language Disorders).
From the time a child is born, language development becomes an important factor. A child s language
develop can be inhibited or improved for many reasons. If problem should occur, a child s social and
academic skills can be affected. Poor language development can prevent effective communication, self
expression, and cause problems when making friends. Isolation, shyness and distraction can become
also become an issue. Academically they can experience issues with reading and limited vocabulary
and poor grammar use (Factors Affecting Language Development in Children).
Noam Chomsky proposed that language is a unique human accomplishment which is etched into the
structure of the brain. He reasoned that the rules for sentence organization are too complex to be
directly taught to or discovered by even a cognitively sophisticated young child.

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
The Alchemist was originally written in Portuguese by a famous Brazilian author Paulo Coelho. The
book s original title is O Alqumistia . The book was first published in 1988 which is since then been
translated into 56 different languages and is one of the bestselling books of the history. This
translation of the book was written by Alan R. Clarke and was first published by Harper Collins
Publishers in 1993. The genres of the book are fiction, fantasy, psychology, drama.
The writer following his desire to find the Philosopher s Stone or the Elixir of Life has spent a long
time studying Alchemy. He had spent the little money he had to buy imported books. The books were
no use to him because they contained impenetrable language, full of symbols, dragons, lions, suns,
moons and other such figures. The writer throughout this book tries to explain little facts that are but
the ultimate reality in this world. As he does in the preface by saying that people only learn truth once
they have first whole heartedly rejected it; that we mustn t run away from our own destiny; that the
hand of God is firm, but infinitely generous .
The author states that this book is a symbolic text as he talks about the Universal Language and the
Soul of the World. No man is big or small in any category, all are equal but the ones who understand
the Language of the world and are accustomed to deal with people using it achieve far more than
others. The only pure language of world is that of love, it

In 2008, the Sacramento County Airport System began a monumental improvement project worth 1.03
billion dollars for terminal modernization of the old Terminal B. The new complex is almost three
times bigger and has an automated state of the art people mover. The new terminal won the Green
Project of the Year award by the Sacramento Business Journal due to its smart technology and green
design, which is reducing energy, costs exponentially. This modern approach makes today s daily
ground access operations sufficient to meet the current and future demand. Airport planners and
managers at SMF have effectively applied the modus operandi of terminal and ground access
operations. SMF s master plan reveals the impending future facilities that will expediently process the
upcoming volumes of airport visitors well into 2020 and beyond (Master, 2004).
The Sacramento County Airport System has been successful at maintaining a balanced economic,
political, and social climate at SMF. The continuous engagement from the airport s management with
the community that it serves, its tenants, suppliers, and service providers is evident. The community
and SMF have worked together to identify some of the environmental effects in the surrounding
communities. The major environmental categories affecting SMF are Aircraft Noise, Compatible Land

Essay on Jose Saramago s Blindness
When defining the word blindness, it can be interpreted in various ways. Either it can be explained as
sightless, or it can be carefully deciphered as having a more complex in depth analysis. In the novel
Blindness, Jose Saramago depicts and demonstrates how in an instant your right to see can be taken in
an instant. However, in this novel, blindness is metaphorically related to seeing the truth beyond our
own bias opinions.
Saramago s novel clearly illustrates themes that describe the importance of the awareness of others, in
terms of feeling oppressed by fear, lack of trust, dehumanization, and segregation. He describes in full
detail the importance of the government s involvement in the lives of the blind victims, which allows

For instance, Hispanic women are more likely to be dissatisfied if they feel they have been treated
badly by providers and staff and if they do not trust doctors (Guendelman, Wagner 118). If the patient
does not feel a sense of hospitality and see a welcoming smile, it discourages the patient to visit the
physician because they feel they are not getting the right medical attention, and tend to be sicker. In
addition, the sicker individual risk exposure to more insults, and this leads them to pull back from the
health care system (119). In a physician/ patient relationship there needs to be a balance between
actually caring and giving your patients the attention and satisfaction that they deserve. Some
physicians take advantage of their patient s vulnerability of being sick by pushing them aside, and
worrying more about the fastest way to make money. However, the physician then loses another
patient because of greed.
Saramago represents trust in a very similar manor, yet instead he describes a man who is suddenly
overcome with a white blindness while stopped at a red light. He explains how an onlooker has
offered to drive the blind man home, and takes advantage of the frantic man s situation by stealing his
car, that good soul, has taken our car [...] He took advantage of your confusion and distressed and

Pain into Beauty Essay
Pain into Beauty
People look back on their childhoods in different ways. Some see it as a time of joy and laughter, love
and learning. Many feel a bittersweet mixture of happy nostalgia, and painful moments. Some prefer
not to look back at all, seeking only to move forward. Then there are people like me, who look back in
anger, bitterness, and sorrow. It seems that few people enjoy a pain free upbringing. In fact, the very
idea of childhood is a fairly new concept. In the early part of the last century, children were considered
miniature adults, and were expected to act that way. Abuse, as defined today, was ignored and
sometimes encouraged. Spare the rod and spoil the child. Today, abuse is carefully defined and is
illegal, but many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

We moved to Denver, Colorado during my first year of life, into a duplex. It was a very small house,
painted a deep blue. It is in this house that my best memories were made. They are of course very

my immediate family, and so was doted upon by every auntie and uncle, by every granny and grandpa.
I was the little queen of my little world. At that point in time holidays were the best. I was showered in

my life even if they are a bit hazy.
At the age of five I was a vibrant, joyful ball of energy. Everything was an adventure, even breaking

The Role Of Flappers In The 1920 s
The way everyone presents themselves in the 1920s by dressing as chosen and fashion styles, people
show this by each gender having their own style of clothes. One of the roles for a female is flappers
who are independent females. At night they dressed up to go out to nightclubs in dresses and high
heels and crazy fashion styles. Flappers also changed there hair style to be different and act out such
as Jordan Baker said You ve dyed your hair since then (Fitzgerald 43). Jordan had no idea who the girl

Apollonianism And Dionysianism In The Greek God Brothers
There is two sides to everything, the good and the evil, the wise will say that it is best to have both.
The similarities that both Greek god brothers, Apollo and Dionysus, have with both East of Eden
brothers, Aron and Cal are identical in some aspects. An individual can choose to carry themselves
with behaviors that are either Apollonian or Dionysian, a mixture of both helps find a healthy balance
that will let an individual live a life at its full potential without causing damage to oneself or others.
Aron and Cal have clashing personalities that create a different environment in their lives and their
relationship with their father. Friedrich Nietzsche discussed the Apollonian and Dionysian
philosophies in the essay Apollonianism and Dionysianism, by contrasting and comparing them he
was able to create concepts that can be tied down to how an individual chooses to live and the
outcome they will create with the lifestyle they carry. He believes that the two forces of Apollonianism
and Dionysianism can be unified to have a diversity of characteristics in a person and that way the
artist is born. Nietzsche portrays ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Comparing Emile Durkheim s The Division Of Labor
In comparing Emile Durkheim s The Division of Labor in Society and readings from the The Rules of
Sociological Method to Peter Berger and Thomas Luckmann s The Social Construction of Reality in
addition to Harriet Martineaus Morals and Manners, Morals of Slavery, and The Political
Nonexistence of Women, all of these authors investigate people as beings that are fundamentally
social that create the basis for society. Even though their perspectives have similar components when
it comes to fundamentally key ideas, they still tend to take different stances on viewing the individuals

This author has had a particular focus on women in politics and how slaves were included in this
social structure during this time period making an effort to convey that all men are born equal and free
as her views were very radical during this time. In comparison to Martineau, Emile Durkheim
emphasizes that the division of labor is a key attribute to the social structure of society as the general
population continues to grow, people will naturally become more disciplined in specialized
professions that will ultimately create institutions as all of these specializations will work together to
benefit society. However, Durkheim does agree with Martineau to the extent that power is diffused
throughout society and ultimately belongs to the government. As government holds the ultimate
authority, punishment will be defined as a reaction as to what has violated laws that have been
instituted in order to maintain standards of moral order. Additionally, Berger and Luckmann make it
clear that it is because people are social beings, people create a society the more we interact with one
another as [man s] relationship to the surrounding environment is everywhere...structured by his own
biological constitution that people attach what they know to be the physical world and build structural
concepts that constitute our society. (Berger and Luckmann, 47.) All address to some degree, that the

Power of Context Essay
The Power of Context Paper Most people would believe that we are shaped and defined by our values

Goetz and the Rise and Fall of New York City Crime In other words, The Power of Context is the
social setting and or the environment around you and how it affects your behavior. Anticipating
resistance from the reader Gladwell uses rhetorical strategies such as real life examples, controlled

argument. Gladwell carefully constructs his argument by offering the real life story of Bernie Goetz.

Minor, seemingly insignificant quality of life crimes, they said, were Tipping Points for violent crime
(292). These real life examples also helped Gladwell advance his claim that social context can change
the behavior of the larger population. Gladwell uses this example to help support his claim by showing
that unlike Bernie Goetz who was only one man, changing small things in our environmental context
can lead to a large systemic change in society. Gladwell strategically uses the Zimbardo Prison
Experiment, because this shows that with the two previous cases that the possibility of the subject
being a criminal was eliminated. This experiment shows that even educated Stanford students in a
monitored and controlled atmosphere are at the mercy of the social context around them. In the

said after the experiment was over, that no matter how together I thought I was in my head, my prison
behavior was often less under my control than I realized (296). This study shows that under a
controlled atmosphere that educated Stanford students are not greater than the social context around
them. Unlike in the first two examples the Stanford experiment was more inclusive and showed that
anyone even highly educated non criminals could have their behaviors altered by mere contextual

Labeling Youths...and The Consequences Thereof
A child s self esteem often times comes from their status in a group of their peers, their family, school
life and in society. With that in mind, society still decides to label youths as deviants, delinquents and
status offenders ultimately changing their own views on their self image. This affects the way youths
think about themselves and how they will play a role in society. It also affects the way society will
later treat them and whether or not they become an outsider. Labeling youths is an unnecessary evil
that often times changes children into criminals. To understand labeling we must first look at its
definition. Labeling Theory is a theoretical approach to deviant behavior, basically stating that

If the judge concludes that the juvenile committed the offense, the judge does not find the juvenile
guilty but delinquent . (Fagin 241) The judge also has the ability of sentencing the delinquent to
community service, a juvenile detention center or another fit form of punishment. Authorities and
teachers then treat delinquent children differently and several studies suggested that under certain
circumstances, official punishment appears to increase the likelihood of subsequent deviance as
suggested by labeling theory. (Bartollas 130)
Labeling is not just found in society and the justice system or at home. It usually begins at school
where a child s achievements, behavior and temperament are placed on a scale to determine normalcy.
Should a child be difficult to manage, a slow learner or aggressive they may be diagnosed with ADD,
ADHD or placed in Special Needs/Education classes. This separates them from their friends and other
children inadvertently labeling them as different. The treatment of these children is different than
those in regular classes and programs. Sometimes children may not be able to perform satisfactorily in
school which leads them to become disruptive, decide to drop out or are suspended all of which
further reinforces involvement in deviant behavior. (Bartollas 207) Without a proper education
children grow and fend for themselves. They are left with minimum wage jobs or

Trapped by Society in John Updike s A P Essay example
Trapped by Society in John Updike s A P
People often take their place in society for granted. They accept that position into which they are born,
grow up in it, and pass that position on to their children. This cycle continues until someone is born
who has enough vision to step out of his circle and investigate other ways of life in which he might
thrive. One such person is embodied in the character of Sammy in A P, by John Updike. Sammy is the
narrator of the story and describes an incident in the store where he encounters a conflict between the
members of two completely different worlds the world that he was born into and the world of a girl
that captures his mind. Through his thoughts, attitudes, and actions, Sammy ... Show more content on

Lastly, his family, after hearing the whole story, thought it was sad. Sammy, who understood
everything that had happened, did not. In this way he separated himself from his whole family; he
thought in such a different way that he could see things in a light that they could not.
Also emerging from Sammy s thoughts were his attitudes about his place in the world. Throughout the
story, he refers to the customers whom he is employed to serve as sheep s derogatory term implying
that he thought them to be dumb and maddeningly consistent. However, the way he describes the girl
who disrupted the flock showed that he regarded her with an attitude of awe and high esteem. He set
her apart in a class different from his own when he described how he envisioned her family: Her father
and the other men were standing around in ice cream coats and bow ties and the women were in

Lizzie Borden Murders
For the past century, the Murders of Andrew J. Borden and his wife Abby Borden became one of
America s obsessions. From the towns people of Fall River Massachusetts to the rest of the country,
the Borden murders became the topic of interest. The case shocked the nation as Lizzie Borden a 32
year old school teacher was put on trial for the murders of her parents.
On August 4, 1892, at 92 Second Street Fall River Massachusetts, Andrew Borden and Abby Borden
were found murdered in their homes. Andrew Borden, the richest man in Fall River, was found dead
by his daughter Lizzie Borden, on a couch in the sitting area. Lizzie called to the household maid,
Bridget Sullivan, to come down from the attic to inform her that Mr. Borden was dead. ... Show more

During Dr. Bowen s autopsy, Mrs. Borden revealed to have been hit nineteen times, killed by the same
hatchet or ax that had killed Mr. Borden, who was hit eleven times. Mrs. Borden s blood had started to
get dark and congeal, showing Dr. Bowen that she was killed before Mr. Borden.
Over the weeks following the murders, investigators made a timeline from August 3rd, the day before
the murders, to August 7th, the day Miss Russell had seen Lizzie burning a dress. On August third
Abby Borden had gone to see Dr. Bowen, claiming she and Mr. Borden had been poisoned because
both of them had been violently ill the night before. Not thinking her nausea was severe he sent her
home. When Dr. Bowen went to check on his neighbors, Mr. Borden told him he wasn t ill and to
leave because he wasn t going to pay for the house call; Bridget was also sick that same morning,
however, there was no poisons found in the Borden s autopsies. Also, that same day, Lizzie had tried
to buy Prussic acid from the drug store, but without a prescription the clerk wouldn t sell it to her.
Later in the afternoon on August 3rd Lizzie s uncle, John Morse had arrived, only planning on
spending the night; Lizzie claimed to have went straight to bed that night and never saw her uncle.
Then on august fourth, the day of the murders, Bridget woke at 6:15 to start her daily chores, Mr. and
Mrs. Borden woke at seven and had their breakfast. At 8:45 Uncle John left; Lizzie came downstairs a

Question 1
(Group Question) I. It is very evident that one of the main responsibilities that the Hershey Trust
Board views their responsibility to be is to the Milton Hershey School. In 1918, Milton Hershey
endowed the trust board. The objective of this endowment was to have full support for the Milton
Hershey School. Further in March 2002, the Trust Board decided to make a decision that was more in
the schools favor, which was making sure that its holdings were less concentrated in Hershey stock.

Such company investments ought to end up increasing stock prices.
To make a fair evaluation of HFC and the other bidding companies we would compare the companies
WACC and the required rate of return which in this case we would use the Ke (CAPM), where the
Hershey s WACC is less than the CAPM (which is used to estimate the required rate of return which is
suitable for an asset). Taking the companies rates of return and the percentage for the wacc, for each
invested dollar that the Hershey, Wrigley, Nestle and Cadbury Schweppes, 0.0041cents, 0cents,
0.0099cents and 0.0088cents respectively are values the companies managed to gain. Hence, Hershey
was fairly valued by the stock market because for every dollar it was investing out of the bidding
companies it was the one who was gaining less (this is not taking into consideration Wrigley because
it is a company which only concentrates on chewing gums so it will not be fair to compare it with the
other three companies.
Also, to support the point that the stock market did a fair valuation of Hershey, the market value of
equity for Hershey was low even though it had the highest price per share out of the other three
companies. It is the shares outstanding which were low that made Hershey incur a low amount of
equity.

Cancer Immunotherapy Research Paper
This original research focuses on defining cancer immunotherapy and the different types of
immunotherapy that has received regulatory approval within the past twenty five years. Cancer
immunotherapy also known as biotherapy is the manipulation of the immune system, or utilization of
components of the immune system, as the cancer treatment. After a brief history of immunotherapy
and the foundation of its origin is given in the introduction Dillman goes into detail about the different
types of immunotherapies. The different types of immunotherapies include nonspecific immune
stimulants Bacillus Calmette Guerin (BCG) and Levamisole which are drugs used to boost the
immune system in a general way. Cytokines are the messengers of the immune system; interferon a
and interleukin 2 are cytokines used to mediate and regulate immune responses, inflammation, and
hematopoiesis which is new blood cell formation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The House Of Mirth And The Yellow Wallpaper Analysis
The House of Mirth and The Yellow Wallpaper: Gender Politics in the 19th Century The life of a lady
in the 19th century is painted in a romantic light. Pictured in her parlor, the lady sips tea from delicate
china while writing letters with a white feathered quill. Her maid stands silently off in the background,
waiting for orders to serve her mistress. What is not typically pictured, is the sadness or boredom
echoed on the lady s face. Perhaps the letter is to a dear friend, not seen in ages, pleading with the
friend to visit, in hopes that the friend will fill the void in the lady s life made from years spent in a
loveless marriage; or possiblyk20 the lady isn t writing a letter at all, but a novel or a poem, never to
be read by anyone but her. Edith Warton and Charlotte Perkins Gilman, are 19th Century ladies who
dare to share their writing with the world. Through their works, the darker side of a woman s life in
the late 1800 s is exposed. Gender politics in the 19th dictates that a lady is dependent on her husband
for her financial security and social standing; that is if she is fortunate enough to marry at all. In Edith
Warton s The House of Mirth, Lily Bart is a beautiful woman in her late 20 s, who fails to marry a
wealthy man. The narrator in Charlotte Perkins Gilman s The Yellow Wallpaper slowly goes insane
under her physician husbands misguided attempts to cure her of depression. The downfall of Lily Bart

A Humorous Trip
The trip I went to was in May 1804. It began at St. Louis with Meriwether Lewis, William Clark, and
Thomas Jefferson. It took us 2 years and 4 months to get back from the trip and we discovered 122
types of animals, 170 types of plants, and made 140 maps where we were at and there was none
passageway from the northwest to even go across through. We found a clear spot to settle in and out to
take a break off all of the adventurous trips. William Clark discovered a new type of animal that it
looked like a fox and run swiftly, and I told Meriwether Lewis about the animal that Clark discovered
and he drew the animal in his journal and thought of the name that could be, THE SWIFT FOX. After
a while he discovered some plants and 1 was

Testing Frequency Distributions (314 words)
Using the NCOVR_US_HOMICIDES data I investigated the distribution of female headed
households and family poverty to see if the data was normally distributed or not, this was the issue
that the research question and hypotheses focused on.
H1 Family poverty is skewed compared to a normal distribution
H2 Family poverty is not skewed compared to a normal distribution
The Chi squared test has certain requirements in terms of the minimum expected population for each
category. The data did not meet these criteria, meaning that the chi squared test in this circumstance
would be inappropriate. To avoid such issues, the nonparametric Kolmogorov Smirnov test was used
in preference as it has less rigorous data requirements..
The positive skewness values for FP89 (1.285) indicate that the sample is positively skewed compared
to a normal (Gaussian) distribution, with a long right tail. The kurtosis value is 2.013, compared to a
normal distribution which would have a Kurtosis value of 0.00. Thus, the test has indicated that the
distribution of both samples is substantially more peaked than would be the case for a normal sample
distribution, this means that the null hypothesis should be rejected and thus that family poverty is
skewed compared to a normal distribution.
This is likely to be the case because family poverty is likely to reach a tipping point beyond which it is
unsustainable, possibly due to high values of poverty being deemed

Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Essay
Most people would be able to name at least two famous authors of the twentieth century. One of those
authors that would be named is Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. Marjorie Rawlings showed an interest in
writing at very young age. The first jobs she had as a young adult was as a columnist. There were
many obstacles that she went through and personal sacrifices that were made to get her own name out
in the writing world. Marjorie Rawlings s had to learn to overcome the gender and social formalities
of the twentieth century. However, Rawlings s was not someone who followed the rules from the
beginning. Rawlings s pushed the idea that women could do more than what others think they should

When she and Charles moved away from the city to the small community of Cross Creek, she delved
right into writing. By 1930, Rawlings was noticed by the editor, Maxwell Perkins, and had her first
successful short story, Cracker Childlings , published in the Scribner Magazine (Lillios 2 par.5). As
Rawlings grew more invested in her writings, she became distant from Charles. Rawlings was always
writing or out in the scrubs researching. The new life she had in Cross Creek was enjoyable. Even
being away from her husband did not phase her. So, Charles was spending more and more time away
in South Florida doing his own research for his writings (Bigelow). Soon enough, Charles became
unhappy with his life in Cross Creek. In the article, Finding A Home: Rawlings s Cross Creek , by
Susan Schmidt, she explains that a reason for his unhappiness was that he ...showed increasing
jealousy of his wife s initial publication (Schmidt 50 par.7). Charles was having a harder time getting
his own writings published. Yet, Rawlings already had an editor and was working on her first book. In
the literary article, A Letter and a Dream , it also mentions how she recognized her husband s jealousy
and that she knew he resented her literary success in light of his own failures (Lear 35). Into her last
two years of marriage with Charles, they were already living two separate lives and she soon divorced
him. Rawlings s never was or became dependent on a man for stability or his

Mcdonald s The Fast Food Industry Is The Value Of Money Of...
The reason McDonald s has been succeeded in the fast food industry is the value of money of their
products, and the fast clean and friendly environment. Customers are getting attracted to this chain
over competitors due to the quality of service and they could get burgers and fries at one price, not like
other places who sells the same products, food package can be bought for a same price. The other
quality is the consistency, with this qualities, Korc noticed that they have a potential of opening new
stores and expand the business into mass scale successfully, which they do currently.
In 1965 USA market, McDonald s held an IPO in new York stock exchange, with the analysis, it is
been figured out that the US market has reached to saturation and that every opening of a new
McDonald s restaurant intruded upon the revenues of other restaurants already in operation. Based on
considering all these facts, McDonald s decided to pursue a diversification strategy, in pre selected
countries, General Management would develop core competencies, the purpose of which was to build
more profit and revenue winning restaurants, and to develop these core competencies for use as a
model throughout the corporation.
This competency center in each country would share its acquired knowledge with other restaurants so
that new products or services could be implemented to generate new growth.
McDonald s Switzerland got the green light from the Chicago executive board to pursue a hotel
venture.

Polyvagal Theory And The Nervous System Theory
who do not have BPD. It has been found that individuals with BPD reach arousal levels much faster
than others and take longer to get back to normal levels of arousal. Individuals with BPD appear to
constantly have some type of crisis and they tend to view things in very close minded ways which can
lead to intense feelings of their emotions. DBT teaches ways to cope with this. (Grohol, 2017). There
are 4 modules used in DBT to teach the skills to reduce symptoms of BPD. The first is mindfulness
(answering the question to themselves what do I do to be mindful ), the second is interpersonal
effectiveness (how you interact with the people around you and in your personal life), the third is
distress tolerance (most therapies focus on changing distressing events whereas DBT focuses on
learning to cope with pain using coping skills) and the fourth is emotion regulation (properly
identifying emotions and changing them). The Polyvagal Theory has to do with how we understand
the nervous system, our senses, our emotions and behaviors. This theory states that the nervous system
has its own set of strategies to regulate itself and to keep us safe in the events of danger. The theory
actually boils down to the idea of safety overall. The Polyvagal Theory also references the mechanism
social engagement which is the highest strategy in this theory. This has to do with connecting the
social muscles of the face (eyes, mouth and middle ear) with the heart. This system is

societies. From, the 1500 s back they usually had one person who was the top either something like a
king or Pharaoh. Usually, the people who were in charge would have a tomb built for them when they
passed or ordered people to build them a tomb before they passed. Some of these tombs were grand
while others were dull. There were also tombs that made a greater impression than other tombs which
are today known as famous tombs . Of course, some tombs are grand, but this paper will focus on the
significance of the ruler and the tomb and how the ruler impacted the way the tomb was built. KV62

The pyramids of Giza were three pyramids which were the pyramid of Menkaure, the pyramid of
Khafre and the Great Pyramid of Khufu. They were all three precisely aligned with the Constellation

Pyramid of Khufu. The base of that pyramid covered fifty five thousand meters squared. The interior
temperature of the pyramid is constant and equals the average temperature of earth, which is sixty
eight degrees Fahrenheit. The outer mantle was made of 144k casing stones and all of them were
highly polished and flat. They each weight fifteen tons. The corner stone foundations of the pyramid
were made with a ball and socket construction, which was capable of dealing with expansion due to

Analyzing Erikson s Eight Stages Of Development
1. Tell me about the developmental crisis of each of the eight stages. Psychologist Erik Erikson
developed his eight stages of development to clarify the developmental challenges faced at various
times in people s lives. Stage based theories of development were extremely popular during Erikson s
era. However, Erikson s theory differs from other popular theories in that a person does not have to
successfully complete one stage of development to move on to the next stage of development. Erikson
s stages of development are widely taught in psychology courses in the United States. Each stage is
presented as two opposing statements representing the challenges a person faces at a particular age. If

Adolescence: Fidelity Identity vs. Role Confusion The famed term identity crisis comes from this
period of development. Erikson argued that adolescents undergo an identity crisis during which they
must establish an identity, goals, and a purpose. Adolescents who struggle to find a purpose to their
lives and a separate identity from their parents and other caregivers may be unable to establish a
coherent, consistent identity. Young Adulthood: Love Intimacy vs. Isolation This is the period of
development during which many people get married or enter into significant relationships and has
been defined as anywhere from 20 24 years to 20 40 years. After a young person has established his or
her identity, he/she becomes equipped to establish intimate relationships with others. Failure to do so
can result in long term feelings of isolation. Middle Adulthood: Care Generativity vs. Stagnation This
is the period of development during which most people have children. People who are able to provide
guidance or a legacy to the next generation feel a sense of purpose, while people who do not do so
may feel stuck. Late Adulthood: Ego Integrity vs. Despair During this phase, older adults reflect back
on the life they have lived. Those who feel fulfilled by their lives are able to face death and aging
proudly, while those who feel disappointment may fall

  • 2. Critic And Stigmatisms In Kate Chopin s The Awakening Critics and Stigmatisms It was not necessary for a writer of so great refinement and poetic grace to enter the overworked field of sex fiction , reviews following Chopin s literary awakening, (The Chicago Times Herald 1). The Awakening contains brilliant images, resilient protagonists, and vulgar sexuality. Kate Chopin utilizes potent imagery and burning sexual passion as character motives to transcend Edna Pontellier from social restrictions. A mold so bleak in nature that its oppressive grasp extends far beyond any one generation. The Awakening centers the main protagonists as individuals with complex desirers beyond generic characters. Chopin s The Awakening challenged the pseudo personas that society condemned the protagonist to uphold. The sensational appetite of Chopin s characters peeked into the feminine mentality. Upon the release of The Awakening, the St. Louis Globe Democrat, rightly so, noticed the amoral actions of Edna Pontellier. Stating It is not a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Beluga Whale Research Paper This research focused on a beluga whale (Delphinapterus leucas) population located in St, Lawrence Estuary that had gone from 5,000 to 500 in number since the start of the century. The question they were trying to answer was; how much do the chlorine containing chemicals (organochlorines) in the environment affect the production, maintenance and repair of body tissue in beluga whales? This research was started because huge amounts of toxins were found in some tissues that had serious lesions in the dead bodies of some beluga whales. This research was conducted in vitro on spleen cells and thymus cells which were intentionally exposed to these chemicals because this where the beluga whales had the most white blood cells to fight of infections and help the cells regain accuracy in their function. The two main factors that were being tested were viability or the potential for the cells to recover from damage and proliferation, the increase in cell number a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The results of this experiment revealed that with regards to viability, the chemicals infected and killed off more thymocytes than splenocytes. Considering that they thymus has more lymphocytes than the spleen, the researchers concluded that the chemicals had a really bad effect on the whales which is why the whales tissue were not healing because they were completely killed by these chemicals. While the results for the cell s proliferation were not as bad in thymocytes as they were in splenocytes. The splenocytes could not make much of themselves as they normal would, their ability to divide was inhibited by the chemicals. The results were slightly different for each of the three organochlorines. Some of the chemicals did nothing but slow proliferation without actually killing off the cells while others did kill the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of The BBC Real Estate Programme The BBC started in 2001 a programme aimed to reduce the size of its property estate, in line with their strategy to offer the licence fee payers better value for money. This report seeks to analyse how the BBC managed its real estate programme and if the management benchmarks with the framework for large capital programme management offered by ____. Lessons learnt from this programme will be extracted, and it will be assessed whether the BBC is ultimately working towards its Value for Money and Quality First Strategy, through the implementation of its estate programme. 1. INTRODUCTION (335) The British Broadcasting Corporation also known as the BBC, is one of the oldest public broadcasting companies in the world. Funding its operation mainly through licence fees paid by the public (Encyclopaedia Britannica, 2016), the BBC and its Trust have the responsibility of spending public funds efficiently and ensuring public value and appeal (BBC Trust, 2016). Throughout its history the BBC has attempted to become more cost effective. Since the launch of the producer choice strategy in 1993 (Felix, 2000), it has been argued that to achieve this they have battled not only the issues of managerial bureaucracy (Harris et al., 2006), but also the inherent costs of adapting its infrastructure to new broadcasting technologies (Wegg Prosser, 2001). In a more recent stride and following the guidance from the BBC Governors and internal auditors, the BBC set new strategic objectives in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of The Book The Ugly American The book The Ugly American clearly demonstrates several of the established Special Operations Force (SOF) imperatives outlined in ADRP 6 22. As a Special Forces soldier I can relate these imperatives to stories illustrated in the book and apply them to real life situations that I have experienced in the field. The Ugly American is a goldmine of wisdom and a handbook for special warfare. All Special Operations soldiers should read it. The first SOF imperative is to Understand the Operational Environment. The character of Ambassador MacWhite clearly illustrates this imperative during his preparation for his new assignment as Ambassador to Sarkhan. He learns the language, researches their history and political life, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This would have been my sixth trip to the Philippines. However, this trip was different. Our detachment never had a trained Intelligence Sergeant, so our senior Communications Sergeant took it upon himself to prepare a cultural study and information brief for the detachment. I was so impressed; he broke down the demographics, the religious conflicts, and addressed political and economic considerations. I learned more in that brief than I had from the five previous exercises in the Philippines. At that time, I was no different from Ambassador Sears. I displayed arrogance over our counterparts. I viewed them as less than us, uninterested in training, and lazy. Looking back, why would they be interested in anything we had to offer? We neglected to develop personal relationships with them, dictated their training according to our needs, and bossed them around on the range like subordinates. Like Sears, I did not try to learn the language. It was not my target language, so I did not consider it a priority, even though I had predictable reoccurring engagements there. I went to western style parties and ate at western style restaurants. Ultimately, I trained hard and had a tight shot group, but never realized I was aiming at the wrong target. About a year latter, I reached my Date Of Return from Over Seas (DEROS) and left the CIF. I spent the next three years as an instructor. When I returned to a detachment, it was as the Team ... Language development is important because it is the way we communicate and exchange information with others in our everyday lives. If there are any language delays, issues with communication and relaying of information can occur. There are many different components of language development. Phonology is the use of sounds, semantics is the use of words and word associations, grammar is the way sentences are composed and pragmatics involves proper and competent communications (Berk 2012, p. 359 360). In order for someone to become fully competent in any language, exposure must begin as early as possible, preferably before school age (Statistics on Voice, Speech, and Language). The book was first published in 1988 which is since then been translated into 56 different languages and is one of the bestselling books of the history. This translation of the book was written by Alan R. Clarke and was first published by Harper Collins Publishers in 1993. The genres of the book are fiction, fantasy, psychology, drama. The writer following his desire to find the Philosopher s Stone or the Elixir of Life has spent a long time studying Alchemy. He had spent the little money he had to buy imported books. The books were no use to him because they contained impenetrable language, full of symbols, dragons, lions, suns, moons and other such figures. The writer throughout this book tries to explain little facts that are but the ultimate reality in this world. As he does in the preface by saying that people only learn truth once they have first whole heartedly rejected it; that we mustn t run away from our own destiny; that the hand of God is firm, but infinitely generous . The author states that this book is a symbolic text as he talks about the Universal Language and the Soul of the World. Either it can be explained as sightless, or it can be carefully deciphered as having a more complex in depth analysis. In the novel Blindness, Jose Saramago depicts and demonstrates how in an instant your right to see can be taken in an instant. However, in this novel, blindness is metaphorically related to seeing the truth beyond our own bias opinions. Saramago s novel clearly illustrates themes that describe the importance of the awareness of others, in terms of feeling oppressed by fear, lack of trust, dehumanization, and segregation. Many feel a bittersweet mixture of happy nostalgia, and painful moments. Some prefer not to look back at all, seeking only to move forward. Then there are people like me, who look back in anger, bitterness, and sorrow. It seems that few people enjoy a pain free upbringing. In fact, the very idea of childhood is a fairly new concept. The similarities that both Greek god brothers, Apollo and Dionysus, have with both East of Eden brothers, Aron and Cal are identical in some aspects. An individual can choose to carry themselves with behaviors that are either Apollonian or Dionysian, a mixture of both helps find a healthy balance that will let an individual live a life at its full potential without causing damage to oneself or others. Aron and Cal have clashing personalities that create a different environment in their lives and their relationship with their father. Friedrich Nietzsche discussed the Apollonian and Dionysian philosophies in the essay Apollonianism and Dionysianism, by contrasting and comparing them he was able to create concepts that can be tied down to how an individual chooses to live and the outcome they will create with the lifestyle they carry. With that in mind, society still decides to label youths as deviants, delinquents and status offenders ultimately changing their own views on their self image. This affects the way youths think about themselves and how they will play a role in society. It also affects the way society will later treat them and whether or not they become an outsider. It usually begins at school where a child s achievements, behavior and temperament are placed on a scale to determine normalcy. H1 Family poverty is skewed compared to a normal distribution H2 Family poverty is not skewed compared to a normal distribution The Chi squared test has certain requirements in terms of the minimum expected population for each category. The data did not meet these criteria, meaning that the chi squared test in this circumstance would be inappropriate. To avoid such issues, the nonparametric Kolmogorov Smirnov test was used in preference as it has less rigorous data requirements.. The positive skewness values for FP89 (1.285) indicate that the sample is positively skewed compared to a normal (Gaussian) distribution, with a long right tail. The kurtosis value is 2.013, compared to a normal distribution which would have a Kurtosis value of 0.00. Thus, the test has indicated that the distribution of both samples is substantially more peaked than would be the case for a normal sample distribution, this means that the null hypothesis should be rejected and thus that family poverty is skewed compared to a normal distribution. • 30. Polyvagal Theory And The Nervous System Theory who do not have BPD. It has been found that individuals with BPD reach arousal levels much faster than others and take longer to get back to normal levels of arousal. Individuals with BPD appear to constantly have some type of crisis and they tend to view things in very close minded ways which can lead to intense feelings of their emotions. DBT teaches ways to cope with this. (Grohol, 2017). There are 4 modules used in DBT to teach the skills to reduce symptoms of BPD. The first is mindfulness (answering the question to themselves what do I do to be mindful ), the second is interpersonal effectiveness (how you interact with the people around you and in your personal life), the third is distress tolerance (most therapies focus on changing distressing events whereas DBT focuses on learning to cope with pain using coping skills) and the fourth is emotion regulation (properly identifying emotions and changing them). The Polyvagal Theory has to do with how we understand the nervous system, our senses, our emotions and behaviors. This theory states that the nervous system has its own set of strategies to regulate itself and to keep us safe in the events of danger. The theory actually boils down to the idea of safety overall.
