The Effectiveness Of Police Officers
Ill natured reaction from the populace regarding the effectiveness of police officers has and will
continue to be an issue in our society. The constant change in public opinion, morals, finances,
socially acceptable behaviors, and cultural diversity limits the potential for implementation of a
concrete model of law enforcement policy and procedure. In order to maintain the proper balance
between law enforcement operations and the changing social dynamic it is imperative to measure the
needs of the populace in relation to the change. A proper model would include procedural changes
based on the data collected from a diverse faction of the target population; using both qualitative and
quantitative collection measures to accurately measure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally by providing student opinion in the data the potential to produce a sustainable model
increases based on the progressive perspective offered. Prophesying that the community will place
high levels of importance with public safety and community predicament, it can be derived that social
issues are the center of cynicism aimed at law enforcement officers and their respective departmental
policies and procedures. Introduction Various aspects of society are impacted when strain is present
between law enforcement officers and the communities they serve; a breakdown in system policy and
procedure propels officers to the forefront of negative opinion relative to community relations. It
becomes apparent that social discord is unbounded when the justice system fails to recognize
discrepancies in the operations at a variety of levels. In order to obtain a solid platform for
reconnecting this community and the officers serving within, it is imperative that respondent
information is used to benefit both community needs and public safety respectively. In order to
facilitate the necessary changes a survey would be provided to the members of the community and the
officers within the jurisdiction. The random selection of survey recipients would be identified by
gender, residence, occupation, and age comprising the generalized variables associated with our
survey distribution. The

OLD BLOOD AND GUTS Essay
OLD BLOOD AND GUTS
General Patton was a devoted student of history, a poet, a humble man who was very unsure of his
own abilities, a man who could bust into tears at any given moment, and could be charming or quite
insulting all in the same hour. His reckless, outspoken manner gained him friends and enemies of
equal determination. General Patton was not only extrovert of public perception but he also had an
intensely private side. He was a man who trained himself for greatness with a determination matched
by no other Allied General of World War Two. During the war, Patton led U.S. troops in Morocco,
Tunisia, and Sicily, then took command of the Third Army, leading the troops through the German
lines at Normandy to traverse France ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this, he made a well known name for himself. Between the two World Wars, Patton feared he would
not be used for what he thought God had put him on Earth to do.
Such fear is evident in the following passage taken from a letter he wrote in the 1930 s: As I approach
41 and there is no war...I fear that I shall live to retire a useless soldier.
Patton knew in 1939 that the war in Europe was his destiny. The General understood what he faced in
leaving for war. This is stressed in a entry of his journal which reads, This is my last night in America.
It may be for years and it may be forever. 6
The General s first combat experience of World War Two was in Africa when he fought against the
best the German s had to offer, General Erwin Rommel. Patton s leadership lead to the first major
defeats of the Germans to the Americans. This proved to the world that the Americans and General
George Smith Patton were a force to be reckoned with. While in Africa Patton said to his men If I win
I can t be stopped! If I lose I shall be dead. 7 This famous quote was one of many which showed the
nature of his thoughts. After the African campaign, Patton fought brilliantly in Sicily and Italy helping
to prepare the Germans for their eventual fall.
After his conquest in Italy, General Patton moved to England to help prepare the Allies for one of the
most important battles of the 20th

Elvis Presley Informative Speech
Elvis Presley was born January 8, 1935 in Tupelo Mississippi. He moved to Tennessee in 1948 and
was an only child after his twin brother passed away 35 minutes after he was born. When Elvis turned
11 his parents bought him his first guitar for his birthday. When he was 12 he was offered to sing on
air, but declined because he was very shy. In 1953 Elvis recorded My Happiness and That s When
your heartaches begin. Elvis had a rehearsal session with Scotty Moore and Bill Black at Sun Records,

Elvis was not only a successful singer but he also starred in many movies. His earlier movies were
well liked and didn t harm his singing career. Such as the film Jailhouse Rock which he was featured
in an actor and singer was very successful. Later some films he did were not as good and started to

King Creole.
After 1972, Elvis performances became more erratic. He began to become unhealthy and gain allot of
weight. He also started taking allot of prescription drugs and harmful things that caused him to have a
heart attack at the age 42. His body was buried in Graceland with his family, located in Memphis,
Tennessee. The day after his death, Elvis s dad, Vernon Presley opened Graceland for the public to pay

I Love You But Then I D Have To Kill You
I d Tell You I Love You But Then I d Have to Kill You is the first book in the Gallagher Girls series.
The series is about Cameron Morgan, a teenage girl who goes to a private school called the Gallagher
Academy for Exceptional Young Women. From the outside, it looks like an ordinary all girls private
boarding school. Except that it s not. Because it actually teaches its students to become a spy. You can
expect unconventional subjects in their curriculum such as Covert Operations, Protection and
Enforcement, and other interesting subjects. In the first book, Cameron or Cammie was in the middle
of an outside class activity in the Roseville town carnival when a boy named Josh singled her out. It

Cammie couldn t tell the truth about her identity to Josh (at least the one which Josh is allowed to
know). It could be solved if only Cammie was a little bit honest to Josh. Yet, the plot doesn t feel
dragged out. Probably because I enjoy the narration and the dialogue between the characters. The
narration might seem childish, with all the exclamation point and capital letters to MAKE A POINT!!
But it didn t annoy me. It s fun. Another thing that I like about this book is how the girls are not
damsel in distress. They are smart and tough. Though sometimes they have to hide the fact that they
are trained spies (depending on your clearance), still, reading about amazing tough girls is always a
plus. They also know their priorities, which is quite a rare case in YA books. Sure, there are times
when she doubt it. But not to the point where she makes dumb decision, at least in my opinion, and I
totally support that. All in all, I m surprised at how much I like this book. If you re looking for a fun
and fast paced YA book, I totally recommend this book. As for the rest of the series, I m looking
forward to reading

The Tension Between The Lovers
The tenth poem stands out after the depiction of the gradually building tension between the lovers in
the previous texts as it once again, like the first and second poem, seems to describe just the scenery.
The speaker waits and contemplates a beautiful flower bed, which he portrays in detailed sensual
images.
The first verse outlines the situation and conveys the speaker s calm state of mind. The verb betracht
implies that he takes a long and close look at the flower bed, which is beautiful ( schön ) to him. The
situation is rather intimate as he looks and contemplates for himself ( mir ) while waiting for someone
or something. The verb harren conveys hope and expectation, but the greedy desire and desperate
longing from the previous poems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Purple black thorns surround the bed. Their dark colours and the verb umzäunt (fenced in) underline
that they protect the chalices, velvety ferns, green, round tufts and white bells that grow inside. The
erotic symbol of the chalice and the rich and sensual language with seven adjectives that describe the
colours, shape and consistency of the flowers hint at the consummation of the lovers desire. The most
striking compound adjective is perhaps sammtgefiederte (velvet feathered), which refers to both the
shape and quality of the material and appears thus almost synaesthetic. The unusual spelling with the
double m contributes to the sensuous quality of the poem s longest word that is used to describe the
perhaps tallest plants in the bed. The speaker enthuses over the magnificence of the flower bed. The
climactic effect of the anaphora Und in the fourth to sixth verse is further enhanced by the description
of an even more beautiful plant in each verse until the speaker s gaze finally reaches the centre with
the bell flowers that stand out due to their softness and pure, white

Bridget Cleary
On Friday March 15, 1895, Bridget Cleary was incinerated by her husband, Michael Cleary, in the

excitement and slight bronchitis, which a local physician in the local community. Michael Cleary was
born in Ballyvadlea, Ireland and became a young cooper. He believed that his seamstress wife Bridget,
who was stricken with a malady, had been kidnapped by fairies. Thus, when he set Bridget s body
afire, he did not think that he was actually burning his wife s body but rather that of a changeling of a
fairy that had taken possession of her. Using the resources and methodologies of cultural
anthropology, cultural history, and folklore studies, Angela Bourke meticulously and deftly researched
the sensationalized narrative about the incineration of Bridget Cleary, a famous and spectacular event

Bourke s task was complicated and rendered arduous because of the hybridity of Irish society where
two paradoxical ways of perceiving the world coexisted: one view in which the traditional cultural
values persisted in which fairy beliefs were common and oral history dominated; and another in which
the scientific and the modern were underscored, and history and traditions were written down. The
tension between these two opposing views of the world unequivocally manifested themselves in the
trial of Michael Clearly for murder his wife, as the fairy defense was invoked as the murder, which

John Ford s Film is Almost The Grapes of Wrath by John...
One of the greatest novels of all time, John Steinbeck s The Grapes of Wrath, is a well known
American classic. Renowned for its portrayal of the struggle of migrant families during the Dust
Bowl; the novel not only details the Joad family s 1500 mile journey from Oklahoma to California but
that of all migrant workers. The Joad s travels reflect the hardships migrant workers had to face while
trying to survive in a country that hated and feared them. The novel was published in 1939, and one
year later it was made into a motion picture. John Ford s film, also titled The Grapes of Wrath, was a
major success, and a marvelous adaptation. However, while visually satisfying, the film does not
convey the depth or intensity of Steinbeck s classic. Neither a loose, nor truly close adaptation, The
Grapes of Wrath falls into the category of an intermediate film. The Grapes of Wrath fails to convey a
vital theme of the novel, the relationships cultivated not just between the Joad s, but between all of the
migrant families.
Cutting characters is a regular occurrence in filmmaking, but in a novel like The Grapes of Wrath it
takes away from the message of growing kinship. The idea of family plays a huge role in this novel.
The Joad s most important goal is the keep the family unbroke. Yet, the film only gives characters
important to the novel a superficial glance. Pa, Uncle John and Rose of Sharon are set in the
background with little characterization. Noah Joad literally disappears

The Development Of Engineers Without Borders
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Engineers without Borders aims to provide those living in poverty a higher standard of living through
initiatives specifically engineered for their regions. One such project designed by Engineers without
Borders is the Bambui initiative. Bambui, a village located in the North West Region of Central Africa
s Cameroon contains a small portion of Cameroon s total population of 22.25 million people. Bambui,
with a population of 50,000 people and its poor standard of living proves to be an obstacle. Due to the
lack of infrastructure and urban planning of the markets which provide the village with much needed
income, Engineers without Borders aims to improve the area by addressing these current problems
with solutions.
2.0 PROBLEM DEFINITION
The market of Bambui is one of the largest and most important aspects of the region, providing a
source of income to the local community as well as the surrounding population who sell clothes, shoes
and raw foods as well as food stalls and restaurants. The pollution identified throughout the markets
comes mainly from the inability for them to dispose of waste properly due to lack of transportation in
and out of the market, and also the sprawl of stalls. The accessibility of owners and locals through the
market comes as a struggle and therefore require a plan in which would assist owners to receive their
transported goods and also dispose of waste that was not sold throughout the day.
The pollution affects both the

Paper On Leonardo Da Vinci
Leonardo da Vinci one of the greatest painters of the Italian Renaissance. Most notable for his works
of the Mona Lisa and the Last Supper. Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452 in the city of
Vinci, Italy. He was raised by his father and stepmother till the age of 5 until his stepmother died, then
he had gone to live in his father s family estate with his grandparents and uncle. Soon later his father
remarried to a twenty year old woman, which now Leonardo da Vinci was at the age of sixteen.
Unfortunately, Leonardo Da Vinci s father s wife died too. Years later his father would remarry again
two more times and leave him with a total of twelve children. Once Leonardo da Vinci became an

Da Vinci came up with many concepts and even inventions of many mathematical instruments that are
still in use today. One of the concepts Leonardo da Vinci created was Platonic solids. Before he could
even think of creating this Da Vinci first spent time studying Luca Pacioli s book called Summa de
arithmetica, which consisted of practical arithmetic, basic algebra, basic geometry, and accounting.
From this Da Vinci was able to grasp the concept of geometry and go on to create Platonic solids. In
doing so he first started by taking tables of proportions and multiplication tables form Luca Pacioli s
book. Once working on this Leonardo da Vinci collaborated with Luca Pacioli in the year 1497 about
another book Pacioli made called Divina Proportione which was about mathematics. Together Pacioli
and Da Vinci dedicated the second portion of Divina Proportione to only Platonic solids. Platonic
solids are said to be a polyhedron of whose faces are all congruent to regular polygons, and where the
same faces meet at every vertex of the polygon. This book would later go on to be published in the
year 1509 as Luca Pacioli the creator with help from Leonardo da Vinci and illustrations by Da Vinci
as well. After this incredible concept created by Leonardo da Vinci, he started to be consumed by
mathematics to the point where is notebook became filled with geometric sketches and diagrams.
Along with this Da Vinci could find the center of mass of a tetrahedron in which after finding he tried
to recreate it. Other occurrences in his notebook were ways of helping himself create the rosette
pattern for his artistic appeals. From this Leonardo da Vinci used many early compasses to aid him in
creating this pattern, but none seemed to get him where he needed too. Therefore, Da Vinci took his
skills of mathematics and created his own versions of

How A Carbon Footprint Is The Total Amount Of Greenhouse...
According to timeforchange.org, a carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases produced
to directly and indirectly support human activities, usually expressed in equivalent tons of carbon
dioxide. Before starting this project I was unaware of what a carbon footprint was but as I learned
more about it I was interested to see what mine would be. The first section to calculate my carbon
footprint was how much energy I consume. As a freshman in college living in a dorm I use $600
worth of electricity which is a total of 2.82 tonnes of CO2e. Next was flights. Over the past year I
have taken one vacation and it was to Providencials Turks and Caicos. It was a direct flight that took
me from JFK airport to an airport in Turks and Caicos. This trip used .41 tonnes of CO2e. The third
section was cars. I drive a Mercedes Benz GLK 350 4 matic that I drove everyday to school and
dance, both in Ocean City, New Jersey. It is about 10 miles from my house to Ocean City High School
and I would go to dance everyday after school which was right around the corner. For the entire school
year this added up to be 4,080 miles. In the summer I also worked in Ocean City which ended up
being the same amount of miles. These car rides plus a few extra ones I put in 9,000 miles for my
miles driven. This total was one of my highest ones with 4.87 tonnes being used. I never use
motorbikes or public transportation so that gave me a total of 0 tonnes for the two of them. That is a
huge benefit to

The Change Of The East India Company Monopoly

Thomas Malthus. At the time, he visited Glasgow; he got a chance to sit on the professorial chair of
Adam Smith, and this marked an emotional period in his life. Without a doubt, his perspective of

about things that the state was not pleased would have their course closed.
Finally, prior to his death, about a year or less, Say was given a political economic chair at the France

Even though he was not feeling well in his last years of life, Say was still productive and was still

the first person nor one of the first people to introduce unique economic concepts into the paradigm of
the classical school. Examples of such concepts are entrepreneur, services, and utility. Since he was

The Problem Of Ineffective Leadership
CAUSES OF THE PROBLEM Ineffective Leadership: Leaders who participate in dishonest practices
regularly make an environment of recompense inside of the association that is helpful for deviant
worker conduct that parallels that of the pioneer (Trevino and Brown, 2005). Employees will watch
the moral judgment of their CEO or overseeing chief and are frequently liable to mirror, regardless of
the possibility that such impersonation constitutes acting unscrupulously. Generally, regardless of
whether a pioneer is compensated for his or her conduct will likewise help focus the probability of
representative impersonation. A few powers make despicable comments, verbally ill use, exclude, and
put down their subordinates. Exploration and media reports recommend that turning into a casualty of
leaders coldhearted treatment is a negative ordeal for workers, impeding to their prosperity and the
proficiency of the association. Abuse by leaders has been alluded to in a few ways, including
interpersonal shamefulness, oppressive supervision social undermining, oppression, and tormenting
(Hoel Cooper, 2001). Albeit every conceptualization has unpretentious contrasts, they all include
workers observations that some of their principal mental needs are hindered by a power figure.
Abused workers react contrarily to pioneer abuse and are more prone to take part in freak conduct,
damaging standards of thoughtful behavior and of productive creation (Bennett Robinson, 2000).

The Current Status Of Electronic Health Record
Electronics has become one huge complex reality. When you turn to your right someone is using a

part of our day to day need in our community. In this paper I will discuss the current status of

United States and issues that affects patient confidentiality.

Antjie Krog Sparknotes
In the book Country of My Skull, the author Antjie Krog uncovers the countless human rights
violations that occurred during the South African Apartheid. The South African Apartheid, meaning
separate or apart, was a system of racial motivated segregation in South Africa. Under this corrupt
system of racial segregation, the minority group of South Africa or the White Afrikaners unjustly
dominated the majority group, the black South Africans. During this period Black South Africans were
unjustly subjected to punishments such as torture, kidnapping, murder, and other horrifying gross
violations of human rights. However, after the abolition of the apartheid was the creation of the Truth

This memoir was in a way Krog s genuine apology for benefiting from a system that caused so much
bloodshed and stripped the humanity from so many thousands of people. Through her reporting of the
TRC testimonies, and the publishing of her book she allowed the rest of the world to be informed of
the terrible crimes that had taken place, as well as the government and political involvement in the
creation of this racial segregation. In her memoir Country of My Skull, while reporting on the direct
testimonies of both the victims and perpetrators, Antjie Krog actively emphasizes her strong feelings
of guilt, shame, and the emotional weight or burden she carries for benefitting from such a corrupt
system. By revealing the true nature of the white South Africans responsible for the apartheid, Krog in
a way denounces her race of being a white South African and asks to be accepted into a unified South
Africa by the Black South Africans.
Although Krog is herself, a white South African, this memoir was her harsh and powerful realization
of the true horrors of the South African Apartheid. For Krog personally, she had to report of each of
the TRC testimonies and was therefore unable to both claim ignorance to the apartheid crimes, and
was forced to truly hear the incredible stories of those who endured such terrible human rights
violations. For that reason, this memoir

The Education Process Of Elementary School Students
Knights Interactive Systems Present: Project Presented by: Nick Leyva
9/11/14
1.1 Project Summary
The goal of this project is to help advance the education process of elementary school students. A lot
of schools have adapted to the use of interactive white boards (IWBs). And while these IWBs do a
good job bringing interactivity to the classroom, our product, the KiD 35 takes interactivity to the next
level! The KiD 35 is a state of the art interactive desk that every student will be able to use during
class. The teacher of the class controls the desk s software so that the students will be focused on the

The transition for teachers is also made quite easily by introductory demos provided with the desks
when they are delivered. If a teacher can operate a smart phone, they will be able to use the KiD 35.
1.3 Project Analysis
We believe IWB s were a very good step in interactive education. However, they have many flaws that
the KiD 35 will approve upon.
Traditional IWB s have need the child to get out of their seat in class to interact with the board, not
every student gets the some amount of interaction with the board. (Deubel, 2010)
Many teachers using the IWB s do not change the method in which they use the board. So if the
assignments seem repetitive, students lose interest.
In our target market, many traditional IWB s are too large for elementary school students to use. [See
photo below.]
Some children are just plain shy and do not want to come in front of the class to work in front of their
classmates. (Interactive White Board, n.d.)
Here is how the KiD 35 counteracts the flaws of the IWB s:
The KiD 35 will be accessible by every child in the class; all of the students receive the same amount
of interaction time with the desks.
Teachers will have access to thousands of applications to always keep the learning environment fresh.
The KiD 35 s are specifically designed for our target demographic, which makes them much more
usable than larger IWB s.

Firearms is biggest topic in media in 2016. We see ads all the time of Government Restrictions or
Government Takes Away Guns and this scares us as American people. Guns are given to us by the
Second Amendment created in 1719 by the founding fathers. The founding fathers had their reasons to
create such a powerful right that would change the United States forever.
The Founding Fathers and Puritans came to America for one reason, to protect their only rights as
humans. They wanted a change that was never going to happen living in England under a British

February 2017
Introduction:
Biomolecules are present in every living organism. Larger biomolecules (macromolecules) consists of
proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates. In layman s terms, proteins are long chains of amino acids that
have many functions such as, providing structural support and regulating many body processes. Lipids
are the scientific term used for fats. There are many different types of fats, but they all share one
common characteristic: They are not soluble in water. Lipids provide protection and insulation to
organs and also act as an energy source. Carbohydrates are made up of carbon, hydrogen, ... Show

However, the results of the experiment failed to support that peanuts would test negative for starches.
Peanuts in fact, tested positive for starch. This suggests that the Nutrition Facts label on food items is
a good indicator of what foods may contain, but is not completely accurate in determining what
biomolecules are in a food substance.

The Missouri Compromise Essay
APUSH DBQ Although the aftereffects of the era of good feelings dominated the beginning of the
time period and compromises were at first effective, sectionalism over national subjects, especially
slavery, led to a crisis in which compromises often meant more increase in political tensions. (Doc F)
Sectionalism abruptly increased in the 1820 and 1830 s with The Missouri Compromise and the
Tallmadge Amendment. Tallmadge s radical proposition was that Missouri gradually emancipated its
slaves and prohibit slavery in the rest of the Louisiana Purchase which produced raging political
debates. If Missouri went either as a slave state or free state, the precarious balance of eleven to eleven
states in the senate would be upset. The compromise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Doc B) Not many supported this method and thus Abolitionists created tensions with Northerners and
Southerners alike. Another plan was colonization which called for gradual release of slaves and
deporting them to Africa with full compensation to the owners depending on the price of slaves at the
time. The third option was containment, with a striking resemblance of containing Soviet Communism
in the mid 1900 s, the plan called for the non expansion of slavery. This ideal was present in the
Missouri Compromise as well as the Wilmot Proviso. All three plans caused much controversy within
the south, who had grown to believe that slavery was beneficial to the southerner s way of life, not a
Peculiar Institution as it was believed to be decades ago. (Doc G) Southern territorial tensions linked
to slavery in the mid 1800 s. (Doc D) Opposition to annexation of Texas occurred because of
avoidance to the problem of Texas being a free or slave state. The Wilmot Proviso provoked huge
controversy about the status of the land gained after the Mexican War, the bill would be called upon
and debated on furiously for decades to come. Popular sovereignty began to appear in some alternate
plans for deciding slavery in the Louisiana Territory. Polk s plan, which proposed to extend the slavery
line in the Missouri Compromise to the pacific, aroused further debates for the North and the South.
California and New Mexico raised even more questions about the implementation of

Ithaca Chapter 17 Summary
Chapter 17: Reimagining Plot and Literary Style in Ithaca
Ithaca is the book s most radical attack on the idea of literary style (Lawrence 559).
In some versions of Ulysses, Ithaca ends with a bold dot clearly placed in the middle of the page. The
dot represents a central crux that concerns much of the critical scholarship surrounding the episode;
does the novel come to a conclusion? Does Ulysses have a point ? In his accompaniment to the novel,
Gifford refers to the dot as a Q.E.D., an abbreviation of the Latin phrase quod erat demonstrandum.
The phrase itself translates to that which was to be proved and, in classical logic proofs and
syllogisms, a Q.E.D. marks the conclusion of a problem. Gifford and other critics believe that ... Show

The homeric parallels from the previous episodes find their way home in Ithaca. In books seventeen
through twenty three of The Odyssey, Odysseus, with help form Telemachus, enters Ithaca in disguise.
Still unknown to those in the palace, Odysseus strings his great bow and slaughters the suitors who
have overrun his home. Much of the action in the chapter accurately corresponds to the action of
Homer s epic; Bloom has to enter his house by a stratagem after forgetting his keys (17.84), like Zeus
sign of reassurance the liturgical review of Bloom s day is rewarded by a loud lone crack emitted by
the insentient material of a strainveined timber table (Joyce 17.2061 62 [Gifford 566]), and most
saliently, Bloom kills Molly s suitors in his own right. Near the end of the chapter, he gives a list of
the sequence of men in Molly s life. However, this list comes after a meditation of the ephemerality of
human importance. He thinks that each one who enters imagines himself a preceding series even if the
first term of a succeeding one, each imagining himself to be first, last, only and alone whereas he is
neither first last nor only nor alone in a series originating in and repeated to infinity (17.2128 31).
Bloom s indifference about Blazes and the other suitors in Molly s life let him transcend the cowardly
cuckold narrative that followed him throughout the novel. The suitors cannot take his place, because
in an infinite, cycling sequence there is no place to take. Although Odysseus asserts his rightful
position through the violent slaughter of men competing for his wife s attention, Bloom defeats the
suitors by disregarding their importance all

The Mafia of the Prohibition Era
Although the Mafia is most associated with the Prohibition era of the 1920 s when it dominated crime
in all major US cities, the true beginnings of the most infamous criminal organization started quite
earlier. Beginning in the late 1800s, many Italians immigrated to New York City due to continued
rumors of success in the area. This trend continued out of the 19th century and into the 20th as over
500,000 Italians immigrated to the United States (Sifakis). As Italian citizens migrated to the cities of
the US, they brought along organized Italian criminals, who formed an organization known as Costra
Nosa, translating to our thing , today we call it the Mafia.
In Sicily, the island southwest of Italy, a place historically invaded by foreign armies, a group known
as The Mafia with no criminal orientation began to grow in order to protect the citizens from such
invaders. Starting in the 19th century, members of the group began exploiting protection money from
various landowners and grew into the violent organization known as the Sicilian Mafia (History).
In the 1920s, the Prohibition era just began in America and crime across the country increased
dramatically. Simultaneously, the very unpopular Benito Mussolini became leader of Italy. The
combination of mobsters needing a new home and America with a new demand for crime created a
destined path for the Sicilian mobsters. New York City became the new breeding ground for the Italian
life of crime, and with the influence of the

Sumerians had a school system which meant schoolwork was assigned to them. According to the

Dido s Lament
Didos Lament

Messiah: Ev ry Valley
By: Tabitha Watkins
ARTS/340
Mood is the affections (to impress the mid or move the feelings of our emotions, emotional response).
Composers of this time shaped or molded a musical language to depict the affections. Music is written
to fit the needs of society in our always changing world. Church music during this time was very
elaborate and music was usually only heard in the churches and if you were wealth enough during that
time you could go hear music in public opera houses. Religious music was a huge part of baroque era;
it saw the creation of tonality, made changes in musical notation, and developed new instrumental
playing techniques.

This piece is based upon the scriptural text from the King James Bible it was first performed in Dublin
in 1742; Handel makes use of the renaissance technique of word painting and multi part polyphony. It
uses fascinating word painting and is repeated throughout the piece. This piece comes from the
oratorio called Messiah; it is the third piece of Messiah. It is the combination of homophony and
polyphony with the addition of two trumpets. There are also two oboes, two violins, a viola, and a
basso continuo. The use of basso continuo (instrumental accompaniment) requires a chordal
instrument and a thoroughbass.
When we put Purcells Didos lament next to Handels Messiah in order to compare and contrast them
you will notice some interesting things; to start they are both a different genre since one was created
during the Baroque time period and the other in the classical, obviously they are both composed by a
different person, Didos lament is an opera aria whereas Ev ry valley is an oratorio aria. Operas
purpose is secular entertainment which is usually performed in a theater and is fully dramatic with
staging and costumes. Oratorios purpose is sacred entertainment which is also performed in a theater
but is a concert type. The both have the same musical form of a recitative and they are both
accompanied by an orchestra. Both the opera and Oratorios were made around the same time. To make

Habeas Corpus Research Paper

How powerful is the law? The laws of armed conflict grandly and euphemistically called international
humanitarian law have never been better cultivated by so many jurists, yet somehow hundreds of
thousands of Iraqis managed to die after our 2003 invasion, with a perhaps greater number perishing
due to the economic sanctions between our Gulf Wars (Madar, 2014). Within today s society we have
criminals of all kinds. These criminal s may truly not be criminals, they are just labeled with this term

The United States adopted and ratified Habeas Corpus on September 17, 1787. With the Judiciary Act
of 1789 the U.S. Congress gave the federal courts the power to issue writs of Habeas Corpus. In the
War of 1812, General Jackson declared martial law and took several detainees and blocked their
released even after a writ of Habeas Corpus was issued by a judge. In the 1860 s a civilian named
Lambdin Milligan was sentenced to death in a military proceeding and used a Habeas petition to
challenge President Johnson s military commissions. In this case the Supreme Court ruled Ex Parte
Milligan that the military commissions didn t have any jurisdiction over the civilian and granted him
to freedom. As stated above in 1871 when the Ku Klux Klan Act was passed, President Ulysses S.
Grant suspended the writ of Habeas Corpus due to the several South Carolina counties that began to
riot in rage. Habeas Corpus was suspended in the Philippines in 1902 by President Roosevelt and the
governor of the Philippines due to ongoing rebellion. In 1941 the Congress authorized the governor of
Hawaii to temporarily suspend Habeas Corpus in response to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. In
the twentieth century, after the Oklahoma City Bombing, President Clinton signed the Antiterrorism
and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996, this limited the instances under which a federal court could

Platelet Confusion
Platelet transfusion
There is no fixed platelet count threshold in ICU patients that signals platelet transfusion (93), but
because of hemorrhage fear there is a widespread notion that the platelet count should be maintained
over 100X109/L in massive bleeding or when bleeding occurs at dangerous sites such as in
intracranial hemorrhage (94).
In addition to platelet count, the risk of hemorrhage is also dependent on the hematocrit and the
bleeding time (95). So, red blood cell transfusion should also be considered as a part of a supportive
therapy, if needed (17).
Despite these recommendations, it should be born in mind that platelet transfusion is not a risk free
procedure and may cause several potentially fatal complications such as contamination,

their music. However the second bird isn t as simple as the first, it is the meaning. The second was the

Reggae lyrics are suggestive of the reggae protest songs. Bob Marley is a great example of capturing
his strong negative views of Babylon. Reggae protest songs proved to be a force with power, both

A Critique of DiLorenzo s The Real Lincoln Essay
A Critique of the Real Lincoln
The Real Lincoln: A New Look at Abraham Lincoln, His Agenda, and an Unnecessary War, by
Thomas J. DiLorenzo completely shatters the illusion of the 16th President as the liberator of the
slaves. DiLorenzo provides convincing evidence for Lincoln s overt racism as expressed in his
documented views on racial supremacy as stated in his desire to colonize all American blacks outside
the United States (p. 4); Lincoln s views were matched by the majority in the North who used such
tools as state constitutional amendments to prohibit the emigration of black people into Northern
states like Lincoln s home of Illinois (p. 4); and that the Presidents war which killed 620, 000

DiLorenzo shows that Lincoln s entire agenda was focused on advancing these three goals. Many
southern states believed with the coming of Lincoln into the White House he would push for his
agenda of increased federal government spending and control.
So when Lincoln suspended the writ of Habeas corpus in order to arrest those accused of treason, the
Peace Democrats had more ammunition against the president. There was much controversy as to
whether the president had the power to suspend habaes corpus, and it was argued that only Congress
had that right. The writ of habeas corpus protects people from arbitrary arrest and detainment. The
power to do so was both that of the legislative branch as well as the judicial branch. It was unclear
whether the Philadelphia convention placed it in Article I, just to identify it or define it as a legislative
function. Either way, Lincoln did so, and the suspension of the writ of Habeas corpus brought on
thousands of arbitrary arrests. Many of those who were arrested were spies, foreigners and smugglers.
The question is: Did Lincoln go too far and unlawfully exercise his executive powers to manipulate
constitutional limits?

powers, his resort to total warfare, the story of Reconstruction, the cruel Indian

The saying of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), in this regard, is following: Whosoever has a
daughter and he does not bury her alive, does not insult her, and does not favour his son over her, God
will enter him into Paradise .
The Holy Quran provides us a clear cut proof that woman is equal in all respects with man before
Almighty God in terms of her rights and responsibilities. The Holy Quran states: Every soul will be
(held) in pledge for its deeds (Quran 74:38)
In terms of religious obligations, such as offering daily prayers, fasting and pilgrimage, woman is no
different from man. In some cases indeed, woman has certain advantages over man. For example
woman can and did go into the mosque during the days of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and thereafter
attending the Friday prayers is optional for them while it is mandatory for men. This is clearly a tender
touch of the Islamic teachings because of the fact that a woman may be nursing her baby and thus may
be unable to offer prayers in mosque. They also take into account the physiological and psychological
changes associated with her natural female functions. The right of females to seek knowledge is not
different from that of males. When Islam enjoins the seeking of knowledge upon Muslims, it makes no
distinction between man and woman. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), said: Seeking
knowledge is

This gives Pluto the appearance that it is tipped on its side, which, in essence, it virtually is. Pluto s
rotation also has notable qualities. Pluto s rotation period is 6.387 days, the same as its satellite/moon
Charon. Although it is common for a moon to travel in a synchronous orbit with its planet, Pluto is the
only planet to rotate synchronously with the orbit of its satellite. Thus being tidally locked, Pluto and
Charon continuously face each other as they travel through space. From 1985 to 1990, the Earth lined
up with Pluto and Charon to cause and eclipse every Pluto day. This occurrence allowed astronomers
to gather a multitude of valuable information about Pluto and its moon. The eclipses lasted as much as
four hours and by carefully timing their beginning and ending, measurements for their diameters were
taken. Photograph s later taken by the Hubble telescope confirms Pluto s diameter of 1413 miles, and
Charon s, at nearly half the size, 728 miles across within one percent accuracy.
Astronomers where also able to determine the density of Pluto during the daily eclipses. By
discovering the density to be approximately two grams per cubic centimeter, astronomers where able
to hypothesize the make up of the planet. They concluded that Pluto is fifty to seventy percent rock
with mixed with ice. Astronomers are also confident in the density of Charon. If correct, the
approximate density of one gram per cubic centimeter would mean that Charon

Over the past 30 years, many states have enacted mandatory helmet laws for motorcycle drivers.
There have been many states that have rescinded these laws for reasons that may not be known by
those most interested the motorcycle rider him/herself. Currently, less than half of all U.S. states
require helmets for motorcycle operators. One who is interested in this topic may wonder how those

The author is interested in discovering the reasoning that the powers that be chose to allow her to have

Motorcycle Helmet Laws 4 to decide whether or not she will don a helmet prior to embarking on a
journey. Her hypotheses as to the reasons are probably so far off base that she would be hesitant to
admit them to another. Ultimately, her quest is to evaluate the writings and attempt to discover if
mandatory helmet laws do, indeed, decrease injuries and deaths as a result of a motorcycle crash.
There are a variety of reasons a motorcycle driver makes the decision as to whether to wear a helmet
while riding vs. not wearing one. Some of the factors that influence this decision appear to be age,
demographics (urban vs. rural living), and style and size of motorcycle. Other factors involved are
where the person is riding (highway, city, side streets, rural areas, etc.) Weather conditions and time of
day (early morning, rush hour, nighttime) also should be taken into consideration. Maneuvering
through hundreds of vehicles on the road and the rising or setting sun in one s eyes have a bearing on
how well a driver can see. The incidence of accidents that result in injury and fatality has fluctuated
with the enactment and rescinding of mandatory helmet use. The United States federal government
has had a vacillating approach to the use of motorcycle helmets since 1967, when the National
Highway Safety Act (NHSA) was first

Apple s Strategies For Global Tax Minimization
APPLE S STRATEGIES FOR GLOBAL TAX MINIMIZATION
Intercompany transactions could occur across national borders, it would lead MNC companies to get
more exposure to the differences of the tax regulations between countries. This might lead MNC
companies to set up their objective to minimize their taxes through the use of discretionary transfer
prices. These issues are attracted the attention of the member of the U.S. senate, foreign governments
and international organization such as the OECD, G20 and European Union (EU).
Apple Inc. is one of the companies implementing tax minimization strategies to lower taxes. Apple
received a lot of criticism from various parties (media, governments, and international organizations).
It is because the estimation of tax savings from the company are very high as its worldwide earnings
are so high. Apple set up new companies in tax havens country and shifts the profit to those
companies. This article will give an explanation on how Apple Inc. lower its taxes through
international tax minimization strategies.
Apple profits is not generated from physical goods but from royalties of intellectual property like
patent. It is similar to other giant technology companies such as Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, Amazon,
and Hewlett Packard. It allows them to move their profits very easy to their subsidiaries in the lower
tax jurisdiction, since their products are downloadable and can be sold from anywhere around the
world. They don t need a physical store or

4-Day School Week
It s no secret that high school students abhor Mondays. The weekend is never long enough, and often
students don t feel refreshed by Monday morning. However, some schools across America are giving
students an extra day to their weekend Mondays. Districts are giving students 3 day weekends while
giving teachers Monday to plan and attend meetings and workshops to improve their classroom
experience. All schools should switch to a 4 day school week because it gives students more time for
private studying and refreshing, as well as allowing teachers time to improve their teaching skills and
incorporate new things like technology into their lessons. Having Mondays off means students get an
extra day at home to study, do homework, and relax. Students ... Show more content on

naysayers. 4 week days allow breathing room and personal time for both students and teachers that

The Myth Of The White Hare Of Inaba Is The Oldest...
Compiled nearly 1300 years ago, the Kojiki is the oldest surviving collection of Japanese myths,
which serve as the backbone for Shinto practices. Thirteen centuries later, those very same myths live
on, sometimes in forms which could not even exist until about a decade ago. In particular, the myth of
The White Hare of Inaba is reincarnated through a few modern day games. It tells the story of a
cunning rabbit who crosses the sea by tricking wani (translated as crocodiles by B. H. Chamberlain,
but it can also be rendered as sharks) into lying in a row. The hare reveals the nature of his trickery,
and the last crocodile enacts revenge by ripping off all of the hare s fur. Eighty gods, all brothers,
stumble upon the hare, but they respond to the rabbit s plea for help by giving dishonest advice that
only causes the white hare more pain. The eighty first brother, named Ōkuninushi, then finds the hare
and gives proper aid to restore the rabbit s hide. In return, the white hare of Inaba prophesizes that
Ōkuninushi will marry Princess Yakami of Inaba, whom the eighty one brothers sought to court. As
can be seen through examples from Cardfight!! Vanguard and the Touhou series, the myth can be
taken, reshaped, and used in a variety of ways without completely losing the original context.
Before beginning, it is worth nothing that there are two versions of The White Hare of Inaba myth
floating around, but not under Doty s sense of the term version ; rather, the two stories are

Cognitive Dissonance Theory Of Smoking
Growing up I was never one for exercising let only eating healthy. Bad habits don t die easily and
soon enough as I got older they took their toll on my body. As grew not only vertically but
horizontally instead of changing my habits I only continued them. I merely changed the way I looked
at the problem by embracing the love for my naturally curves instead. Despite not only the public
looking down on hefty women but with the further disapproval of my family that the dissonance
began to weigh more. Things only progressively got worst when I was medically diagnosed with mild
obesity. It was only then that the cognitive dissonance made me begin to change my behavior.
Cognitive dissonance theory explains the contradictions we have with our behaviors and beliefs but it
can also be used to get us to have positive behaviors.
Cognitive dissonance theory was created by Leon Festinger and to better explain his theory he used
the topic of smoking. He showed how the contradiction is so clear and uncomfortable that something
has to give either the use of cigarettes of the belief that smoking will [harm] (Griffin et al., 2015,
p.201). Cognitive dissonance in a nutshell is a contradiction that causes us stress. It is when we act in
ways that go against what we believe and the strong presence we have on the matter the greater the
stress we have. Festinger (2015) describe it the distressing mental state one feels when one finds
themselves doing things that don t fit with what we believe or what the public approves of (p.200). An
extreme example of this is the high one gets from taking drugs but the disapproval the community
might have for it. With dissonance creating a stressful mental state we naturally want to avoid it by
either change our behaviors or our beliefs.
Cognitive dissonance can have either positive effects or negative ones on a person s being. In the
Glatz, Stattin, Kerr study they considered the health and behavior of parents who find their youths
drinking. Generally underage drinking is looked down upon in the community and even in the eyes of
the law but studies have shown that parents reduce control and support in response to youths drinking
(Glatz, Stattin, Kerr, 2012, p. 629). Glatz et al

Comparing Frankenstein And The Fairie Queene
Studying literature is in great part about analyzing the work. Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley gives the
power of literacy to the monster in her novel Frankenstein to humanize him as well as to equip him
with a moral compass which would have been difficult for him to pick up on otherwise. The treasure
of literature for Frankenstein s monster includes John Milton s Paradise Lost to bring into question the
role of the creator and creation as seen in God and man and Frankenstein and his seemingly horrific
figure, while the use of Edmund Spenser s The Fairie Queene could have been used to underline the
difference between right and wrong.
As a creation made of the parts of man in his image, Frankenstein s monster is an imperfect Adam.
Shelley does not dwell on the fall of man, so much as she uses it to question the monster s ... Show

In Book 3 of the epic, Milton highlights that God created Adam as, sufficient to have stood, but free to
fall (Norton 1989). God places the blame on Adam for the punishment of man. The monster reading
this literally, without analysis and who was also made in his creator s image then has no choice but to
assume that he is also being punished.
Shelley s humanization of the monster lies in his imperfection and makes the reader question just why
he has been cast aside by humanity. If the reader accepts the fall of man as punishment, for Adam and
Eve s mistake they can see that the monster s creation itself is not for him to be punished, but for
Frankenstein. The monster s understanding of his place because of his outward appearance is apparent
after he begins to compare himself to Adam who was created from the hands of God as a perfect

Alpha Wolf Research Paper
Living in a family group called packs makes the wolves a well organized species. Wolves are very
social and intelligent animals.
Life cycle
Gray wolves only breed once a year from between January to March. (Typically, only the male and
female pack leaders.) After a 63 day gestation period, the mother will give birth to an average of 4 6
pups around the months of April to May. When the pups are born, they are deaf and blind, weighing in
about 1 pound. During the first 3 weeks, while the pups are nursing every 4 6 hours, they still need
help regulating their body temperatures, the mother typically stays inside the den with her pups. While
she s nursing the pups inside the den other wolves from the pack will bring her food so she doesn t ...

They represent the middle class and in most cases, the subordinates were Omegas that had climbed up
the social ladder by dominating other members of the pack. They re usually submissive towards the
wolves who are higher up the hierarchy. Occasionally, the subordinates could become the new Alpha
wolf by fighting their pack leaders. They can actually skip the Beta position and become the new
Alpha.
The Omega Wolf
Omega wolves are at the very bottom of the pack hierarchy. The Omegas are the ones who feed last
and if their Alpha demands it, they won t eat at all. Often the other members of the pack will bully the
Omegas. But the Omega does play a very important role in the pack. The Omegas help the other
members of the pack vent off conflicts without causing acts of war.
In recent studies they show that their contribution goes far beyond internal conflict resolution. It
seems that packs who lose their Omegas will stop all hunting and begin to mourn them. Within their
pack, they can fight their way up to the top of the hierarchy, but the Omegas status can only be earned
by defeating their opponents on multiple occasions until the others recognize their dominance.

US Sectionalism Essay
From colonial times there were differences in geography that gave rise to variations in culture and
economy in the United States. Due to the differing characteristics, a sectional economy molded the
United States into two distinct regions: the north and the south. The north, a commercial society,
which supported industry and commerce while the south, an agrarian civilization, flourished in the
production of raw materials with use of slaves. The two economies were both self supporting and
capable to create a stronger, more productive nation. The regional differences sought to build America,
in turn threatened to destroy it. Many Historians believe that the Civil War was constructed over the
issue of slavery. However, the concerns of states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Along with the demand for cotton came a demand for labor. Black slaves from Africa were used to
hand pick cotton in cotton fields, a tedious and daunting job. After Eli Whitney s invention of the
cotton gin, cotton production skyrocketed from the average 3,000 bails per year to 300,000 bails per
year. Unlike the north, the south lacked transportation improvements such as railways, roads, and
water canals. In contrast to the many economical differences of the industrial north and agrarian south,
few similarities arise in the struggle of sectionalism. Both the societies consisted of utilization of
trade, westward expansion, and the use of unskilled labor. The north s industrial businesses such as
textile industries demanded the south s production of cotton in order to maintain its market with
oversees buyers. Also, the fight for westward land was among the many conflicts between the north
and the south. And the use of unskilled labor was highly shared between these two economies. In the
south, the use of untrained African slaves was its main entity to economic success. Like the south, the
north used amateur workers in its industries to boost its production. Among the economies of the north
and south arose many conflicts that led to the tension of the Civil War in 1861. In the 1800s, slavery
was a major sectional issue. Northerners were strongly opposed to slavery unlike the south s belief
that slavery was economically beneficial.

Telomere Research Paper
Time is of the essence! By the end of this research paper the reader will know the reasoning behind
time itself. A telomere is quite significant because it can detect cancer, diseases, and aging. The
telomer was discovered around the 1960 s by Dr. Leonard Hayflick he discovered it by learning about
how long a cell can live. There are billions of cells through plants, animals, and humans it s how an
organism operates. A telomer is at the end of each chromosome inside a eukaryote cell (Plant and
Animal Cell) and its importance is copying DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid). DNA is the genetics that
we obtain through our parents. If we could preserve the telomer to be continuous then organisms can
become eternal. A telomer holds the true meaning of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Telomere can be described as a weight lifting bar, telomers are at the end of each chromosome like
two weights on both ends of a bar. A chromosome is an organelle inside the eukaryotic cell (animal
and plant cell), chromosomes obtain genetic information forming genes. Plants, animals, and humans
contain trillions of cells throughout their anatomy. How does a telomere relate to genetics? A telomere
helps the cell reproduce DNA. Without copying DNA, it is impossible for a cell to live. In 2009 a
Noble Prize was won by three experts on heredity discovered the telomere genetic code. One of their
significant pieces of this research was in the 1970 s when they did a critical research paper on
isolating the sequence of telomeres. They quickly discovered a telomer is used many times each use
the telomere breaks off when the DNA is replicated that s when the length of the telomer shrinks.
Before a telomere was discovered Dr. Leonard Hayflick discovered how long a cell can live and his
results come out to be 50 to 60 cycles. His results were not understood by scientist but they had faith
in his research they quickly understood once the telomer was discovered scientist concluded with a
hypothesis if they can control the length of a telomer than I cell can be indestructible it would live
forever. Somehow if a discovery came along to uphold a telomer than it could cure cancer, diseases,
and provide longer life for a

  • 2. The Effectiveness Of Police Officers Ill natured reaction from the populace regarding the effectiveness of police officers has and will continue to be an issue in our society. The constant change in public opinion, morals, finances, socially acceptable behaviors, and cultural diversity limits the potential for implementation of a concrete model of law enforcement policy and procedure. In order to maintain the proper balance between law enforcement operations and the changing social dynamic it is imperative to measure the needs of the populace in relation to the change. A proper model would include procedural changes based on the data collected from a diverse faction of the target population; using both qualitative and quantitative collection measures to accurately measure ... Prophesying that the community will place high levels of importance with public safety and community predicament, it can be derived that social issues are the center of cynicism aimed at law enforcement officers and their respective departmental policies and procedures. Introduction Various aspects of society are impacted when strain is present between law enforcement officers and the communities they serve; a breakdown in system policy and procedure propels officers to the forefront of negative opinion relative to community relations. It becomes apparent that social discord is unbounded when the justice system fails to recognize discrepancies in the operations at a variety of levels. In order to obtain a solid platform for reconnecting this community and the officers serving within, it is imperative that respondent information is used to benefit both community needs and public safety respectively. In order to facilitate the necessary changes a survey would be provided to the members of the community and the officers within the jurisdiction. The random selection of survey recipients would be identified by gender, residence, occupation, and age comprising the generalized variables associated with our survey distribution. The ... • 4. OLD BLOOD AND GUTS Essay OLD BLOOD AND GUTS General Patton was a devoted student of history, a poet, a humble man who was very unsure of his own abilities, a man who could bust into tears at any given moment, and could be charming or quite insulting all in the same hour. His reckless, outspoken manner gained him friends and enemies of equal determination. General Patton was not only extrovert of public perception but he also had an intensely private side. He was a man who trained himself for greatness with a determination matched by no other Allied General of World War Two. During the war, Patton led U.S. troops in Morocco, Tunisia, and Sicily, then took command of the Third Army, leading the troops through the German lines at Normandy to traverse France ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this, he made a well known name for himself. Between the two World Wars, Patton feared he would not be used for what he thought God had put him on Earth to do. Such fear is evident in the following passage taken from a letter he wrote in the 1930 s: As I approach 41 and there is no war...I fear that I shall live to retire a useless soldier. Patton knew in 1939 that the war in Europe was his destiny. The General understood what he faced in leaving for war. This is stressed in a entry of his journal which reads, This is my last night in America. It may be for years and it may be forever. 6 The General s first combat experience of World War Two was in Africa when he fought against the best the German s had to offer, General Erwin Rommel. Patton s leadership lead to the first major defeats of the Germans to the Americans. This proved to the world that the Americans and General George Smith Patton were a force to be reckoned with. While in Africa Patton said to his men If I win I can t be stopped! If I lose I shall be dead. 7 This famous quote was one of many which showed the nature of his thoughts. After the African campaign, Patton fought brilliantly in Sicily and Italy helping to prepare the Germans for their eventual fall. After his conquest in Italy, General Patton moved to England to help prepare the Allies for one of the most important battles of the 20th ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The series is about Cameron Morgan, a teenage girl who goes to a private school called the Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women. From the outside, it looks like an ordinary all girls private boarding school. Except that it s not. Because it actually teaches its students to become a spy. You can expect unconventional subjects in their curriculum such as Covert Operations, Protection and Enforcement, and other interesting subjects. Cammie couldn t tell the truth about her identity to Josh (at least the one which Josh is allowed to know). It could be solved if only Cammie was a little bit honest to Josh. Yet, the plot doesn t feel dragged out. Probably because I enjoy the narration and the dialogue between the characters. The narration might seem childish, with all the exclamation point and capital letters to MAKE A POINT!! But it didn t annoy me. It s fun. Another thing that I like about this book is how the girls are not damsel in distress. They are smart and tough. Though sometimes they have to hide the fact that they are trained spies (depending on your clearance), still, reading about amazing tough girls is always a plus. They also know their priorities, which is quite a rare case in YA books. Sure, there are times when she doubt it. But not to the point where she makes dumb decision, at least in my opinion, and I totally support that. All in all, I m surprised at how much I like this book. If you re looking for a fun and fast paced YA book, I totally recommend this book. As for the rest of the series, I m looking forward to reading ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Tension Between The Lovers The tenth poem stands out after the depiction of the gradually building tension between the lovers in the previous texts as it once again, like the first and second poem, seems to describe just the scenery. The speaker waits and contemplates a beautiful flower bed, which he portrays in detailed sensual images. The first verse outlines the situation and conveys the speaker s calm state of mind. The verb betracht implies that he takes a long and close look at the flower bed, which is beautiful ( schön ) to him. The situation is rather intimate as he looks and contemplates for himself ( mir ) while waiting for someone or something. The verb harren conveys hope and expectation, but the greedy desire and desperate longing from the previous poems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Purple black thorns surround the bed. Their dark colours and the verb umzäunt (fenced in) underline that they protect the chalices, velvety ferns, green, round tufts and white bells that grow inside. The erotic symbol of the chalice and the rich and sensual language with seven adjectives that describe the colours, shape and consistency of the flowers hint at the consummation of the lovers desire. The most striking compound adjective is perhaps sammtgefiederte (velvet feathered), which refers to both the shape and quality of the material and appears thus almost synaesthetic. The unusual spelling with the double m contributes to the sensuous quality of the poem s longest word that is used to describe the perhaps tallest plants in the bed. The speaker enthuses over the magnificence of the flower bed. The climactic effect of the anaphora Und in the fourth to sixth verse is further enhanced by the description of an even more beautiful plant in each verse until the speaker s gaze finally reaches the centre with the bell flowers that stand out due to their softness and pure, white ... Michael Cleary was born in Ballyvadlea, Ireland and became a young cooper. He believed that his seamstress wife Bridget, who was stricken with a malady, had been kidnapped by fairies. Thus, when he set Bridget s body afire, he did not think that he was actually burning his wife s body but rather that of a changeling of a fairy that had taken possession of her. Using the resources and methodologies of cultural anthropology, cultural history, and folklore studies, Angela Bourke meticulously and deftly researched the sensationalized narrative about the incineration of Bridget Cleary, a famous and spectacular event that is still poignantly remembered in the modern day as a story about shifting gender mores, domestic violence, gender dynamics and power relations, and class within the context ... • 9. John Ford s Film is Almost The Grapes of Wrath by John... One of the greatest novels of all time, John Steinbeck s The Grapes of Wrath, is a well known American classic. Renowned for its portrayal of the struggle of migrant families during the Dust Bowl; the novel not only details the Joad family s 1500 mile journey from Oklahoma to California but that of all migrant workers. The Joad s travels reflect the hardships migrant workers had to face while trying to survive in a country that hated and feared them. The novel was published in 1939, and one year later it was made into a motion picture. John Ford s film, also titled The Grapes of Wrath, was a major success, and a marvelous adaptation. However, while visually satisfying, the film does not convey the depth or intensity of Steinbeck s classic. Neither a loose, nor truly close adaptation, The Grapes of Wrath falls into the category of an intermediate film. The Grapes of Wrath fails to convey a vital theme of the novel, the relationships cultivated not just between the Joad s, but between all of the migrant families. Cutting characters is a regular occurrence in filmmaking, but in a novel like The Grapes of Wrath it takes away from the message of growing kinship. The idea of family plays a huge role in this novel. The Joad s most important goal is the keep the family unbroke. Yet, the film only gives characters important to the novel a superficial glance. Pa, Uncle John and Rose of Sharon are set in the background with little characterization. Noah Joad literally disappears ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Development Of Engineers Without Borders 1.0 INTRODUCTION Engineers without Borders aims to provide those living in poverty a higher standard of living through initiatives specifically engineered for their regions. One such project designed by Engineers without Borders is the Bambui initiative. Bambui, a village located in the North West Region of Central Africa s Cameroon contains a small portion of Cameroon s total population of 22.25 million people. Bambui, with a population of 50,000 people and its poor standard of living proves to be an obstacle. Due to the lack of infrastructure and urban planning of the markets which provide the village with much needed income, Engineers without Borders aims to improve the area by addressing these current problems with solutions. 2.0 PROBLEM DEFINITION The market of Bambui is one of the largest and most important aspects of the region, providing a source of income to the local community as well as the surrounding population who sell clothes, shoes and raw foods as well as food stalls and restaurants. The pollution identified throughout the markets comes mainly from the inability for them to dispose of waste properly due to lack of transportation in and out of the market, and also the sprawl of stalls. The accessibility of owners and locals through the market comes as a struggle and therefore require a plan in which would assist owners to receive their transported goods and also dispose of waste that was not sold throughout the day. Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452 in the city of Vinci, Italy. He was raised by his father and stepmother till the age of 5 until his stepmother died, then he had gone to live in his father s family estate with his grandparents and uncle. Soon later his father remarried to a twenty year old woman, which now Leonardo da Vinci was at the age of sixteen. Unfortunately, Leonardo Da Vinci s father s wife died too. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Da Vinci came up with many concepts and even inventions of many mathematical instruments that are still in use today. One of the concepts Leonardo da Vinci created was Platonic solids. Before he could even think of creating this Da Vinci first spent time studying Luca Pacioli s book called Summa de arithmetica, which consisted of practical arithmetic, basic algebra, basic geometry, and accounting. From this Da Vinci was able to grasp the concept of geometry and go on to create Platonic solids. In doing so he first started by taking tables of proportions and multiplication tables form Luca Pacioli s book. Once working on this Leonardo da Vinci collaborated with Luca Pacioli in the year 1497 about another book Pacioli made called Divina Proportione which was about mathematics. Together Pacioli and Da Vinci dedicated the second portion of Divina Proportione to only Platonic solids. Platonic solids are said to be a polyhedron of whose faces are all congruent to regular polygons, and where the same faces meet at every vertex of the polygon. This book would later go on to be published in the year 1509 as Luca Pacioli the creator with help from Leonardo da Vinci and illustrations by Da Vinci as well. After this incredible concept created by Leonardo da Vinci, he started to be consumed by mathematics to the point where is notebook became filled with geometric sketches and diagrams. Along with this Da Vinci could find the center of mass of a tetrahedron in which after finding he tried to recreate it. Other occurrences in his notebook were ways of helping himself create the rosette pattern for his artistic appeals. From this Leonardo da Vinci used many early compasses to aid him in creating this pattern, but none seemed to get him where he needed too. • 12. How A Carbon Footprint Is The Total Amount Of Greenhouse... According to timeforchange.org, a carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases produced to directly and indirectly support human activities, usually expressed in equivalent tons of carbon dioxide. Before starting this project I was unaware of what a carbon footprint was but as I learned more about it I was interested to see what mine would be. The first section to calculate my carbon footprint was how much energy I consume. As a freshman in college living in a dorm I use $600 worth of electricity which is a total of 2.82 tonnes of CO2e. Next was flights. Over the past year I have taken one vacation and it was to Providencials Turks and Caicos. It was a direct flight that took me from JFK airport to an airport in Turks and Caicos. This trip used .41 tonnes of CO2e. The third section was cars. I drive a Mercedes Benz GLK 350 4 matic that I drove everyday to school and dance, both in Ocean City, New Jersey. It is about 10 miles from my house to Ocean City High School and I would go to dance everyday after school which was right around the corner. For the entire school year this added up to be 4,080 miles. In the summer I also worked in Ocean City which ended up being the same amount of miles. These car rides plus a few extra ones I put in 9,000 miles for my miles driven. This total was one of my highest ones with 4.87 tonnes being used. I never use motorbikes or public transportation so that gave me a total of 0 tonnes for the two of them. That is a huge benefit to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Still in England, Say was able to make crucial friendship networks with well known economist such as, David Ricardo, Jeremy Bethem, James Mill and Thomas Malthus. At the time, he visited Glasgow; he got a chance to sit on the professorial chair of Adam Smith, and this marked an emotional period in his life. Finally, prior to his death, about a year or less, Say was given a political economic chair at the France College. Say was for the thought that, his discipline should have the name social economy, as economic policies, and economic laws impacted the society as a whole. Even though he was not feeling well in his last years of life, Say was still productive and was still writing, overseeing and lecturing the fifth version of his famous book Treatise which was published in 1826. The Problem Of Ineffective Leadership CAUSES OF THE PROBLEM Ineffective Leadership: Leaders who participate in dishonest practices regularly make an environment of recompense inside of the association that is helpful for deviant worker conduct that parallels that of the pioneer (Trevino and Brown, 2005). However, they have many flaws that the KiD 35 will approve upon. Traditional IWB s have need the child to get out of their seat in class to interact with the board, not every student gets the some amount of interaction with the board. (Deubel, 2010) Many teachers using the IWB s do not change the method in which they use the board. So if the assignments seem repetitive, students lose interest. In our target market, many traditional IWB s are too large for elementary school students to use. [See photo below.] Some children are just plain shy and do not want to come in front of the class to work in front of their classmates. (Interactive White Board, n.d.) Here is how the KiD 35 counteracts the flaws of the IWB s: The KiD 35 will be accessible by every child in the class; all of the students receive the same amount of interaction time with the desks. Teachers will have access to thousands of applications to always keep the learning environment fresh. The KiD 35 s are specifically designed for our target demographic, which makes them much more usable than larger IWB s. In some versions of Ulysses, Ithaca ends with a bold dot clearly placed in the middle of the page. The dot represents a central crux that concerns much of the critical scholarship surrounding the episode; does the novel come to a conclusion? Does Ulysses have a point ? In his accompaniment to the novel, Gifford refers to the dot as a Q.E.D., an abbreviation of the Latin phrase quod erat demonstrandum. Roots reggae; a sub genre of Reggae, was dominant in Jamaica in the cohort of 1975 1980. Roots reggae tackles the life of a ghetto sufferer and discusses truths and rights (Barrow and Dalton, 129). Dancehall and the incorporation of hip hop rhythms was the new addition of reggae. Dancehall became widely used after the death of Bob Marley in 1981 (Barrow and Dalton, 231). DiLorenzo completely shatters the illusion of the 16th President as the liberator of the slaves. DiLorenzo provides convincing evidence for Lincoln s overt racism as expressed in his documented views on racial supremacy as stated in his desire to colonize all American blacks outside the United States (p. 4); Lincoln s views were matched by the majority in the North who used such tools as state constitutional amendments to prohibit the emigration of black people into Northern states like Lincoln s home of Illinois (p. 4); and that the Presidents war which killed 620, 000 Americans and destroyed 40% of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... DiLorenzo shows that Lincoln s entire agenda was focused on advancing these three goals. Many southern states believed with the coming of Lincoln into the White House he would push for his agenda of increased federal government spending and control. So when Lincoln suspended the writ of Habeas corpus in order to arrest those accused of treason, the Peace Democrats had more ammunition against the president. There was much controversy as to whether the president had the power to suspend habaes corpus, and it was argued that only Congress had that right. The writ of habeas corpus protects people from arbitrary arrest and detainment. The power to do so was both that of the legislative branch as well as the judicial branch. It was unclear whether the Philadelphia convention placed it in Article I, just to identify it or define it as a legislative function. Either way, Lincoln did so, and the suspension of the writ of Habeas corpus brought on thousands of arbitrary arrests. Many of those who were arrested were spies, foreigners and smugglers. The question is: Did Lincoln go too far and unlawfully exercise his executive powers to manipulate constitutional limits? The saying of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), in this regard, is following: Whosoever has a daughter and he does not bury her alive, does not insult her, and does not favour his son over her, God will enter him into Paradise . The Holy Quran provides us a clear cut proof that woman is equal in all respects with man before Almighty God in terms of her rights and responsibilities. The Holy Quran states: Every soul will be (held) in pledge for its deeds (Quran 74:38) In terms of religious obligations, such as offering daily prayers, fasting and pilgrimage, woman is no different from man. In some cases indeed, woman has certain advantages over man. For example woman can and did go into the mosque during the days of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and thereafter attending the Friday prayers is optional for them while it is mandatory for men. This is clearly a tender touch of the Islamic teachings because of the fact that a woman may be nursing her baby and thus may be unable to offer prayers in mosque. They also take into account the physiological and psychological changes associated with her natural female functions. The right of females to seek knowledge is not different from that of males. Pluto s rotation period is 6.387 days, the same as its satellite/moon Charon. Although it is common for a moon to travel in a synchronous orbit with its planet, Pluto is the only planet to rotate synchronously with the orbit of its satellite. Thus being tidally locked, Pluto and Charon continuously face each other as they travel through space. From 1985 to 1990, the Earth lined up with Pluto and Charon to cause and eclipse every Pluto day. This occurrence allowed astronomers to gather a multitude of valuable information about Pluto and its moon. The eclipses lasted as much as four hours and by carefully timing their beginning and ending, measurements for their diameters were taken. Photograph s later taken by the Hubble telescope confirms Pluto s diameter of 1413 miles, and Charon s, at nearly half the size, 728 miles across within one percent accuracy. Astronomers where also able to determine the density of Pluto during the daily eclipses. By discovering the density to be approximately two grams per cubic centimeter, astronomers where able to hypothesize the make up of the planet. They concluded that Pluto is fifty to seventy percent rock with mixed with ice. Astronomers are also confident in the density of Charon. Ultimately, her quest is to evaluate the writings and attempt to discover if mandatory helmet laws do, indeed, decrease injuries and deaths as a result of a motorcycle crash. There are a variety of reasons a motorcycle driver makes the decision as to whether to wear a helmet while riding vs. not wearing one. Some of the factors that influence this decision appear to be age, demographics (urban vs. rural living), and style and size of motorcycle. Other factors involved are where the person is riding (highway, city, side streets, rural areas, etc.) Weather conditions and time of day (early morning, rush hour, nighttime) also should be taken into consideration. Maneuvering through hundreds of vehicles on the road and the rising or setting sun in one s eyes have a bearing on how well a driver can see. • 41. The Myth Of The White Hare Of Inaba Is The Oldest... Compiled nearly 1300 years ago, the Kojiki is the oldest surviving collection of Japanese myths, which serve as the backbone for Shinto practices. Thirteen centuries later, those very same myths live on, sometimes in forms which could not even exist until about a decade ago. In particular, the myth of The White Hare of Inaba is reincarnated through a few modern day games. It tells the story of a cunning rabbit who crosses the sea by tricking wani (translated as crocodiles by B. H. Chamberlain, but it can also be rendered as sharks) into lying in a row. The hare reveals the nature of his trickery, and the last crocodile enacts revenge by ripping off all of the hare s fur. Eighty gods, all brothers, stumble upon the hare, but they respond to the rabbit s plea for help by giving dishonest advice that only causes the white hare more pain. The eighty first brother, named Ōkuninushi, then finds the hare and gives proper aid to restore the rabbit s hide. In return, the white hare of Inaba prophesizes that Ōkuninushi will marry Princess Yakami of Inaba, whom the eighty one brothers sought to court. As can be seen through examples from Cardfight!! Vanguard and the Touhou series, the myth can be taken, reshaped, and used in a variety of ways without completely losing the original context. Before beginning, it is worth nothing that there are two versions of The White Hare of Inaba myth floating around, but not under Doty s sense of the term version ; rather, the two stories are ... Bad habits don t die easily and soon enough as I got older they took their toll on my body. As grew not only vertically but horizontally instead of changing my habits I only continued them. I merely changed the way I looked at the problem by embracing the love for my naturally curves instead. Despite not only the public looking down on hefty women but with the further disapproval of my family that the dissonance began to weigh more. Things only progressively got worst when I was medically diagnosed with mild obesity. It was only then that the cognitive dissonance made me begin to change my behavior. Cognitive dissonance theory explains the contradictions we have with our behaviors and beliefs but it can also be used to get us to have positive behaviors. Cognitive dissonance theory was created by Leon Festinger and to better explain his theory he used the topic of smoking. He showed how the contradiction is so clear and uncomfortable that something has to give either the use of cigarettes of the belief that smoking will [harm] (Griffin et al., 2015, p.201). Cognitive dissonance in a nutshell is a contradiction that causes us stress. It is when we act in ways that go against what we believe and the strong presence we have on the matter the greater the stress we have. Festinger (2015) describe it the distressing mental state one feels when one finds themselves doing things that don t fit with what we believe or what the public approves of (p.200). An extreme example of this is the high one gets from taking drugs but the disapproval the community might have for it. With dissonance creating a stressful mental state we naturally want to avoid it by either change our behaviors or our beliefs. Cognitive dissonance can have either positive effects or negative ones on a person s being. In the Glatz, Stattin, Kerr study they considered the health and behavior of parents who find their youths drinking. Generally underage drinking is looked down upon in the community and even in the eyes of the law but studies have shown that parents reduce control and support in response to youths drinking (Glatz, Stattin, Kerr, 2012, p. 629). The treasure of literature for Frankenstein s monster includes John Milton s Paradise Lost to bring into question the role of the creator and creation as seen in God and man and Frankenstein and his seemingly horrific figure, while the use of Edmund Spenser s The Fairie Queene could have been used to underline the difference between right and wrong. After Eli Whitney s invention of the cotton gin, cotton production skyrocketed from the average 3,000 bails per year to 300,000 bails per year. Unlike the north, the south lacked transportation improvements such as railways, roads, and water canals. In contrast to the many economical differences of the industrial north and agrarian south, few similarities arise in the struggle of sectionalism. Both the societies consisted of utilization of trade, westward expansion, and the use of unskilled labor. The north s industrial businesses such as textile industries demanded the south s production of cotton in order to maintain its market with oversees buyers. Also, the fight for westward land was among the many conflicts between the north and the south. And the use of unskilled labor was highly shared between these two economies. In the south, the use of untrained African slaves was its main entity to economic success. Like the south, the north used amateur workers in its industries to boost its production. A chromosome is an organelle inside the eukaryotic cell (animal and plant cell), chromosomes obtain genetic information forming genes. Plants, animals, and humans contain trillions of cells throughout their anatomy. How does a telomere relate to genetics? A telomere helps the cell reproduce DNA. Without copying DNA, it is impossible for a cell to live. In 2009 a Noble Prize was won by three experts on heredity discovered the telomere genetic code. One of their significant pieces of this research was in the 1970 s when they did a critical research paper on isolating the sequence of telomeres.
