Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islanders
An indigenous person is a term used to describe the original inhabitants of a land, the people who
were there before any settlers of a different land came and took over. Indigenous people will have
generally retained their cultural practices and traditions that will differ greatly from that of the settlers.
The term Indigenous person is used to describe Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. (Australian
Human Rights Commission, n.d.)
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are the original land owners of Australia, having lived here for
more than 40,000. They were free to practice a different way of life and culture before European
settlement in the late 1700s.

Dreamtime is the beginning, the aboriginal equivalent of the Big Bang theory. According to aboriginal
understanding, The Dreamtime is the creation of the world, the time when their Ancestor Beings
existed. These Ancestor Beings awakened the dark and silent world by breaking through the earth s
crust, causing the sun to rise from the ground and shine light on the earth for the first time. It is
believed the Ancestor Beings of Dreamtime were half human in form and resembled creatures or
plants. They travelled the earth creating the landscapes of the world on their journeys. They made the
aboriginal people, who are the decedents of the dreamtime ancestors, as well as the native animals and
creatures of the land. They are also responsible for the moon and the starts, as well as the natural
elements, water air and fire. Once they had made all of this, they went back to their sleepy state into
the earth. (Aboriginal Art, n.d.)
Now, aboriginals continue the Dreamtime with what is referred to as The Dreaming. The Dreaming is
practiced in stories, song, dance, artwork

Dagoberto Gilb Narcissism
Do you know the story of Narcissus? He was the very handsome fellow in Greek mythology who,
because of his indifference and disdain toward others, was punished by the gods by falling in love
with his own image. He was so enraptured by his beauty that he was unable to pull himself away from
his own reflection, and he wasted away and died. Narcissism is also considered a social and cultural
problem in America. It s not surprising to see a rise in narcissism in this generation given that young
people are being bombarded by these messages and sorts of commercial all day, every day through
every form of media. It is the same with Jake who is the main character in the story Love in L.A by
Dagoberto Gilb. In the story, Jake is consumed with himself and with gaining more pleasure for
himself. He wants much more than he has, and he wants it for him to be appraised by many women
and finally fell in love with him. He clearly sees himself as a ladies man and uses every opportunity to
COLLECT them. He thinks that having all the luxurious things will make him feel like invincible, like
he is the greatest human being that god created. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although many will argue that narcissism is just a behavior that will not pose any danger to anyone,
Gilb has a theme of narcissism, showing us that young and adult people these days are being infected
with this narcissism because of being materialistic, having unmanaged stress, and easy access on

Periodic Trends Of Chemical Properties
Periodic Trends of Chemical and Physical Properties in Group 1A and 7A
Hamish Thomson, Chemistry 11.2, Mr Ryan O Sullivan
Intro:
In chemistry, there are two classes of observable properties matter can display; chemical and physical.
These properties are classified by what needs to happen to the substance before the property becomes
evident. Chemical properties require a chemical change while physical properties don t need a
chemical change to occur. Four properties of the alkali metals and halogens will be talked about
through this essay, two chemical and two physical. The two chemical properties will be reactivity, how
willing a substance is to undergo a chemical change and toxicity, the ability of a substance to cause
damage to an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Fig 1 the reactivity of Non Metals decreases every period and increases every group, the halogens
lie on the end of the group of Non metals causing them to be highly reactive. The alkali metals have a
single electron in their outer electron shell, making it easy for them to become a noble gas and period
down the periodic table the easier it is to get rid of the extra electron, causing the alkali metals to
become more reactive the further down the periods. To become a noble gas a halogen must gain an
electron, the farther away the outer shell is from the nucleus, the more energy that is required for an
electron to enter the shell. Halogens need one more electron to become a noble gas, while alkali
metals need to donate an electron to become a noble gas. (Johnsonburg High School, n.d.) Fig 1. This
shows the trends of the reactivity of Metals and non metals on the periodic table.
Paragraph 3. Toxicity
Toxicity is how dangerous a substance is to an organism, it is commonly measured by the amount
required to kill 50% of the population of a given organism. The toxicity of the alkali metals increases
each period, due to the increase in reactivity. The toxicity of the halogens decreases as you go down
until astatine, which is harmful due to radioactivity (Helmenstine, 2017).
Paragraph 4. What is a physical property:
A physical property is a property of matter that can be observed without causing a

The Issue Of Domestic Violence Homicides Or Gun Surrender...
B. Interview format:
In an attempt to better understand the barriers in getting perpetrators to surrender their guns, and the
possible solution in remedying them, I conducted interviews with different members of the King
County community. The goal of these interviews was to generate information regarding the
experiences of DV victims, and their advocates as well as law enforcement agencies on the issue of
gun surrendering. Interviews were done primarily in person with the attorneys, and primarily over the
phone with the DV advocates. Due to the political sensitivity of this issue, the majority of the
interviewees have requested to remain anonymous.
C. Interview Questions:
The following questions guided each interview: Background:
1. Can you tell us a bit about the work you currently do, and how it is related to the issue of domestic
violence homicides or gun surrender laws?
a. How long have you been working in this capacity?
b. In which County has most of your work been in?
c. How often do you work with clients that are the victims of Domestic Violence?
2. Did any of your clients have a judge order their perpetrators to surrender their weapons, and if so,
can you tell me about an instance where this has happened?
Recent Policy Changes and their impact:
3. Washington enacted a law in 2014 that mirrors federal law by prohibiting gun possession by anyone
subject to a protective order. The protective order must have been issued after a noticed hearing

European Influence in Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe
Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe, presents the result of colonization of the Ibo people by the
European missionaries. The Ibo culture is threatened to change by the European influence. Villagers
are divided between resisting a new lifestyle or embracing it for better opportunities in society. The
struggle to keep Ibo traditions alive is reflected in Okonkwo and Obierika s relationship to one
another. Okonkwo represents the resistance of change by keeping traditional values in high regard
while, Obierika signifies the openness to opportunity by questioning the current Ibo values. The
arrival of European missionaries persuades the exchange of traditional Ibo methods, customs, and
community for Christianity, resulting in the community to fall apart. Before the arrival of European
influence, villagers of Umuofia had a single option for a way of life. It was a place to be feared,
dominated by war and violent practices. Ibo culture is centered on a patriarchal system based on
hierarchy; the highest titles held by male egwugwu in the legal system and the osu at the bottom. The
main character, Okonkwo, represents the ambition to strive for a higher position in society in order to
gain status: His life had been ruled by a great passion to become one of the lords of the clan (131).
Another aspect in Ibo culture is the representation of women. They are undermined in order for men to
achieve success; bride prices are used to able men to marry more than one wife and husbands are

Yossarian Character Analysis
Vietnam soldiers and protesters felt empathy for Yossarian because of the way Heller shows Yossarian
s basic humanity. Yossarian s instincts, honed by millions of years of evolution, scream at him to
prioritize self preservation above all else. His vulnerability becomes evident in his obsessive hatred of
the crawlway on the B 52 on which he is the bombardier, to the point that he learn[s] to detest every
mammoth inch of it, for it slung him seconds and seconds away from his parachute...and seconds and
seconds more after that away from the escape hatch (48). This selection of detail conveys the intense
anxiety that plagues Yossarian on every mission as he watches his life hang by a thread. The anti war
protesters and Vietnam soldiers who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Up until the 1950s and 60s, investigative journalism did not exist, or at least not pertaining to issues in
which the government was involved; what the government said was untouchable. After the publication
of the Pentagon Papers in The New York Times, in March of 1971, the American people suddenly had
access to information that confirmed that the United States had taken an active role in building up the
conflict in Vietnam. Simply put, the people who were aware of how we had stumbled into Vietnam
were the ones who wanted to get us out (Heller, Interview with 1975), so this shocking revelation
paired with the continued involvement of the United States in Vietnam added insult to injury for
citizens whose support for the war was already dwindling. Yossarian s bold statement that the
enemy...is anybody who s going to get you killed, no matter which side he s on (Heller, Catch 22 124),
resonated with an angered and betrayed American public. Yossarian represents a rallying cry for a
generation traumatized by the Vietnam War (Muhlestein 2009) because he does not walk through life
blindly. He asks the questions that everyone ignores, and he expects a proper answer, a characteristic
which was consistent with the spirit of revolt (Heller, Checking In 1981) Heller felt in the political

Eraserhead
Eraserhead is a 1977 surreal, psychological horror film written and directed by david lynch. It stars
jack nance and charlotte stewart...... Eraserhead tells the story of henry, a depressed, isolated man who
after being invited to his girlfriend marys home for dinner is informed that she has given birth to a
baby. Henry and mary get married and soon after his wife leaves him, leaving him to care for his
horribly mutated offspring, all the while henry has bizare dreams and visions. Eraserhead is shot

The chacracter of henry seems to have trouble in all these areas and desperatly wants to escape his life
and environment, his visions of a lady in the radiator, the only character in the film who seems
genuinly happy, seem to offer him an escape from his reality and ultimately his ill, mutated baby.
Lynchs use of surrealist imagery in this film is arresting, if not nightmarish at times. An example
would be the dinner scene when henry is asked to carve the chicken by marys father, as soon as he
sticks a fork in it, its legs begin to move whilst it oozes blood. In certain scenes we share in henrys
confusion and shock at the events occuring around him, a testament to lynchs direction and jack
nances perfomace. for most of the film henry is a passive character, alowing things to happen to him
without his intervention to stop them, by the end of the film however he determines to free himself
and does so in one of the more disturbing scenes of the

Diversity Reflection
The implications and understandings developed in class were a gateway in applying it to real world
work. Being given the opportunity to volunteer at The Continuum, I was able to understand the
meaning of disability in the lives of others. I saw firsthand how access, knowledge, and care can
transform a person s daily life in all aspects. With educative modules on assistive technology, culture
and care, family issues, and many others, I was able to transform my perspective and practice what I
am currently learning in the classroom. The Continuum provides a ReGenerations Adult Day Club for
individuals who may deal with Alzheimer s disease, Dementia, Traumatic Brain Injuries, Stroke
Recovery, Parkinson s disease, and M.S. . This program is fundamental in providing an array of
different care, and I found it to be beneficial for more than just their members. Through my 15 hours
of volunteer experience with The Continuum, I analyzed how a person s disability can be managed
and addressed using a variety of techniques and methods, in caring for individuals.
My first day volunteering had me nervous, but with an excited anticipation of being able to help
others, while learning. I immediately assessed the location for how they incorporated accessibility in
their framework, in regard to, the layout, doors, and general environment. It is interesting how once
you are aware of something, it easily becomes incorporated in simple daily life. I was given a brief

We Wear The Mask By Paul Laurence Dunbar
Shapeshifting requires the ability to transcend your attachments, in particular your ego attachments to
identity and who you are. If you can get over your attachment to labeling yourself and your cherishing
of your identity, you can be virtually anybody. You can slip in and out of different shells, even
different animal forms or deity forms. Zeena Schreck, religious leader of the Sethian Liberation
Movement. In the poem We Wear the Mask by Paul Laurence Dunbar the reader should learn that
individuals feel the need to wear a mask to change their personality into the more ideal individual
which surpasses their confidence, fear, insecurities, and emotions. This poem develops the realities
about self image and how it makes individuals act in society.
Initially, the poem opens with We wear the mask that grins and lies, it hides our cheeks and shades our
eyes (Dunbar, 1 2). The mask presents the truthful and untruthful sides of individuals. The mask is
also a work of craftiness as it forces the individual to appear happy, regardless of the pain they may be
feeling beneath the surface. Individuals that struggle with themselves wear a mask to show everyone
else that they are not struggling and have everything figured out. Just like being in pain With torn and
bleeding hearts we smile (Dunbar, 3). Individuals force smiles on their faces to portray to others that
they are happy no matter whats going on in their life.
However, this poem is also relevant to the Nobody

Discussing Developmental Theorists and Their Theories of Human Development
For ease of review in discussing the developmental theorists and their theories of human development
I have subdivided each theorist into their respective schools of psychology. These schools include the
psychoanalytic school, behavioral school, humanistic school, cognitive school, and the individual
schools of psychology. Each developmental theorist holds their own unique ideas and theories about
various components of human development. I will be discussing the contributions of each of these
theorists.

He also concluded that the sexual drive was the most powerful shaper of a person s psychology, and
that sexuality was present even in infants. He presented what is now a well known theory of the stages
of psychosexual development. They include the oral, anal, and phallic stages. Later, he identified two
additional stages called the latent and genital period. The phallic stages include the Oedipus Complex
for boys and the Electra Complex for girls. The Oedipus Complex states there is a sexual attraction
towards the mother and a sense of jealousy to the point of hatred of the father. The Electra Complex
states that there is a sexual attraction towards the father and a hostile rivalry toward the mother. I find
Freud s theory of the unconscious to be relevant and useful. I think the use of the term Freudian Slip
most relevant in applying this theory. I know at times I have said things that I may have not been
consciously thinking about yet when they came out I could identify with them. I can also agree that
many unconscious memories are from childhood events. I find this highly useful for me because I am
adopted and so unlike any members of my family. I believe my early childhood events helped to shape
my future behavior but they were very painful and I repressed them. His stress on the importance of
childhood helped to teach the value of giving children an emotionally nourishing environment so I can

Computer Devices And Its Impact On Our Day Life
1 Introduction
Nowadays, smartphone users are Increasing day by day, and these smart devices has gain so much
importance in our day to day life as they are used as primary source of computation. Manufacturers
are also building smart devices even more powerful by introducing good CPU, GPU, RAM, Display
Technologies, etc. Today Android owns most of the market share in smart devices [1]. According to
International Data Corporation (IDC), total market shares of Android in 2015 2nd quarter is about
82.8% [1]. Display is one of the most important part in any smart device because most of the device s
functionality is offered through its display only. For rendering intensive graphical contents, display
technologies such as Super Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode (AMOLED) [2], In Plane
Switching (IPS) [3], Retina [4] came into existence. Super AMOLED was announced by Samsung in
January 2010 and now it is used in many Samsung devices where as Retina technology is developed
by Apple Corp. and today it is used in majority of apple products. To ensure that the device is capable
of rendering high quality graphics, it is necessary to check that whether device supports all of the
required display functionalities i.e. proper display validation is required. Display Validation will let
you know that which all display functionalities are supported on your device.
Since Android is one of the most popular Operating Systems, we focus our research work on Android.

Moreau Wag Bustt
Done in a Baroque style the bust gives the immediate impression of beauty, youth, and strength.
Moreau looks to his left, his gaze focused in the distance as if watching some event or an approaching
person. The man wears an elaborately carved wig which curls over and around his shoulders. The
curls are styled in artful ringlets and swirls, at the crown of his head the wig permed to either side of
the central part. The longer lengths of hair spiral down past his shoulders. The bust can be viewed
from all angles however, even though the wig curls down part of his back there is a lip of stone that
reveals the rough underside of the marble from the six o clock view. The way the wig is organized,

Sculptors of this period faced two major problems. The first, were in the cost of their materials,
especially when casting in bronze was concerned. The second problem was the time that could ellipse
in the creation of piece versus the demand commissions arrived (Levery 1993 p.61). King Louis XIV
was among those commissioners, ... sculpture was serving a decorative function, chiefly in the royal
parks and gardens (Levery 1993 p.61). King Louis XIV involvement in art did influence but did not
limit the artists to a set court style (Levery 1993 p.62). Most of the sculpture of this time period
follows the Baroque style of art. The sculptures are realistic enough to feel a part of the viewer s
reality, at the same time being dramatized whether by their narrative, fascial or bodily expression.
There is a mix between classical style of clothing as well as themes, and contemporary fashion. As
seen in the bronze Le Parnasse Français, 1712 by Louis Garnier, depicting a scene of figures. Some of
the figures are dressed in ancient Greek and Roman robes and armor, while the male figures have long

Taking a Look at an Electromagnetic Relay
Patent Project: Electromagnetic Relay
Describe the problem: The electromagnetic relay is used many different applications as a switch. It
allows the signal to pass through the relay, when the magnetic coil is turned on, connecting 2 contact
points together. It works as follows: The relay is made with a bobbin, a coil, a fixed magnetic core,
and a movable armature. When the coil is excited, with the magnetic field generated, the armature is
maneuvered such that it will be repositioned when the magnetic field is turned on so that the contacts
touch and the signal travels through the relay. This design was developed in 1825 [1] and has not since
been changed. One drawback to this design is that the utilization of the magnetic flux generated is not
efficient. Thus the electrical power supplied to the relay is not sufficiently used making for a flaw in
the design, a loss of power. More power is used, when less could be consumed if the design were to be
changed. Thus the problem of the current electromagnetic relay is that the power supplied is not used
efficiently, so there is a waste of power. With the new green environmentally friendly consumer
market on the rise, industries want to be able to use as little power in their circuits as possible. Thus
the solution to this power inefficiency is what this innovation tries to affect and hopefully make better.
Describe the solution: This innovation provides a new design for an electromagnetic that is more

Biological Explanations Of Crime Analysis
Biological Explanations of Crime Strengths and weakness
Biological explanations of crime suggests that crime is due to the nature of an individual, this is highly
controversial as it suggests crime is innate and not a cause of the environment. These theories suggest
that criminals are born with criminal tendencies. This essay will discuss various biological
explanations of crime and point out some strengths and weaknesses. Cesare Lombroso, whom
established criminology as a science, founded this theory. He gathered facts in an empirical study and

people see working class people as more delinquent (Flanagan 2011). The method was also flawed in

Globalization and the development of technology have provided people with more opportunities to do
whatever they want. Because of the choices, people seem to be happier to make their own choices.
However, Martin E.P. Seligman, the author of Authentic Happiness, would argue that they are not
happy because that kind of happiness does not last long. In his book, Seligman explains that there are
two kinds of happiness, pleasure and gratification. He says, [t]he pleasures are delights that have clear
sensory and strong emotional components, what philosophers call raw feels : ecstasy, thrills, orgasm,
delight, mirth, exuberance, and comfort. They are evanescent, and they involve little, if any, thinking

According to him, gratification is a key for people to have a good life. However, Seligman explains,
[g]ratification dispels self absorption, and the more one has the flow that gratification produces, the
less depressed one is (119). Although it is clear that people need gratification more than pleasures, he
points out that [t]o start the process of eschewing easy pleasures and engaging in more gratifications is
hard (119). This difficulty of attaining gratification might make people to choose pleasure rather than
gratification. Thus, according to Seligman s definitions of happiness, it is easier for humans to seek
pleasure rather than to seek gratification. In The Psychology of Globalization , Jeffery Jensen Arnett
illustrates that young people focus on self longer by extending adulthood. Arnett notes, in global
culture, people value on individualism, free market economics, and democracy and include freedom of
choice, individual rights, openness to change, and tolerance of differences (779). Arnett argues that
globalization, especially increasing the number of choices and allowing people to have freedom of
choices affect each individual s psychological functioning. He points out, [w]hen people are allowed

How Does Wilfred Owen Describe The Horror Of War
UNNECESSARY AND RIDICULOUS The poem Dulce et Decorum est wrote by Wilfred Owen is a
surprising poem which explains the experiences of soldiers in the trenches during World War I. He
uses his poetry as a vehicle to express his ideas on the horror of war. On this essay I will go through of
the techniques used by him to illustrate the notion of it being sweet and fitting to die for your country
is not true. The reader is introduced to the horror of war in the first lines of the poem as Owen portrays
the bad physical condition of the men, bent double, like old beggars under sacks . This simile shows
how dirty and unhealthy the soldiers appear. The comparison to old beggars is interesting because it is
how the men have been aged early by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay on Media s Portrayl Of Women
Media in today s society is constantly degrading women and sending negative messages about the
ways in which women should be treated; women are becoming objectified in the sense that they are
seen as objects with little value. The media, which seems to endlessly show women as sexual objects,
limits their potential and damages their sense of self worth.
More often than not the media depicts the way people go about their daily life. People look at the
media to determine how they should dress, act and in some cases even how they should perform
sexually. ...there are the fashion magazines that focus on beauty, attracting and satisfying men, self
improvement, and (occasionally) work and politics. Examples are Vogue (emphasizing fashion ...

Just like in the song Sexy Bitch when Akon states Im trying to find the words to describe this girl
without being disrespectful many men today are having the same problem. It is not too often that
women hear the words beautiful, gorgeous, or lovely, instead they hear hot, sexy, or somkin . This is
shown again in Akon s song when his whole chorus is Damn You s a sexy bitch, a sexy bitch. Many
music videos have women being portrayed as ravenous women who want sex at all times.
(Dreamworlds 3) They send out the message that women are just there as sexual objects and are
nothing more than females seeking male attention. (Dreamworlds 3) The music video s always show
women hanging off of men, and doing anything they have to in order to get attention. Most music
videos are fairly predictable in the ways they sexualize women, sometimes in violent ways. As in
movies women are generally present in music videos to be looked at. (Shaw and Lee, p507) It is
examples like these that are damaging to a women s sense of self worth. Although some women may
fall into this trap and accept that they are looked at as sexual objects for men, many will not. It is a
disgrace that the media can have such a damaging effect on a women s sense of self worth. Society as
a whole watches these videos and listens to these songs, and if this is the way that society is portraying
women, then this is the way women are going to look at themselves.

Developing Wireless Communications to Space Essay
A big potential problem in the future is developing a wireless communications network in outer space.
In this paper we will discuss the problems presented with this and the potential solutions to these
problems using existing and some futuristic technology. We have broke this into two main parts, one
being earth to satellite to planet and back, and the other being planetary ground transmission to and
from astronauts to rovers to space stations.
The solution has already started being implemented and will continue rapidly into the near future. It is
called the Interplanetary Internet. As of now it is an array of floating nodes or satellites scattered
around in space that can communicate with each other. In the future a ... Show more content on

On the earth we are only separated from one another by fractions of a second. From earth to mars the
average transmission time is 30 45 minutes. That would feel like light years trying to download tracks
to your iPod.
In order to make this work a massive system of satellites needs to be implemented. These satellites
will serve as net gateways with the purpose of conveying data packets. Each piece of equipment will
have its own IPN address, or .mars domain name. They will serve as nodes, operating on a packet
switched network.
Some major possible problems include lag, weak signal, and reduced bandwidth. The solution to all of
these lies in a new IPN protocol being developed. This protocol, along with high precision equipment,
will help to eliminated all of these. The protocol has changed in two major ways from our own TCP/IP
protocol. This first is a packet delivery scheme that won t clog the system by resending missing
packets. IPN instead keeps track of arriving packets and then requesting missing ones at the end of
delivery. The second is the packet headers will use only one tenth as much bandwidth as TCP/IP. Back
on earth there will be gateways to translate.
Another big problem with the Interplanetary Internet is speed. Using our current technology the top
speed for sending data from a satellite orbiting mars to earth is 250 kbps. Down on mars, in a dusty
unknown atmosphere with not much power, this is more like 10 kbps. The solution

Frank Stella Research Paper
The work of Frank Stella presents itself as a catalyst. It is equipped with a three dimensional energy
that goes beyond the limits of the canvas and spreads itself onto real space. His creations invite us in
to interact. He is one of the pioneers of Minimalism, with his famous black paintings (1958 60) ,for
which he received early and overnight recognition and acclaim . Those Black Paintings consisted of,
basically , stripes of black house paint laid out in stark repetitive, patterns separated by thin lines of
unpainted canvas .(Fig 1) In the evolution of its production, he becomes a pictorial reference to
exuberance, through his layering buildup and works that are full of curves, twists and contortions. If,

Between 1958 and 1960, with a series of 23 canvases known as Black Paintings, Frank Stella cancels
out any trace of visual illusionist effects or references, and creates non relational images . He builds a
linear pattern, organizing a structure of parallel stripes. With the phrase What you see is what you see ,
he lays out the elements of absolute flatness of his painting, building, by doing so, a logic rationale to
their visual system. It is time for the reasoned geometric rigor of symmetry, regularity and serial
repetition. In his minimalism, Stella eliminates color, he uses black paint and then metallic gray and
copper paint to reduce the idea of illusion. By focusing on unity and the fabric surface homogeneity
the all over he begins to express one of the aspects of the minimalist movement. These paintings are
part of the exhibition Sixteen Americans held in 1959 at MoMA.
Nonetheless, the reductive course that Stella chose takes him to an alternative path: he chooses to end
austerity, by replacing monochromatic stripes with multiple colors and shades that immediately take
the viewer to spatial interpretations. Stella s art does not take into account the limits of the traditional
rectangular canvas , always reminding us that no matter what connotations his paintings may evoke

Examples Of Revenge In The Duchess Of Malfi
John Webster s The Duchess of Malfi can be viewed as a revenge tragedy. The Duchess was murdered
on the order of her two brothers, Cardinal and Ferdinand, because of her sexual transgressions and her
secret marriage with her subordinate household steward, Antonio, with whom she had also borne two
children. Through this play, Webster addresses many issues that were highly prevalent in Jacobean
age. This play is a concoction of issues like social mobility, gender norms, revenge and also has
violence in large proportions. We see that class status does not protect the Duchess against men s
violent acts. The murder of the Duchess is not really considered a murder by the brothers but an act
that is done to protect their family name in the society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Men were supposed to be the powerful ones and women wee meant to do the household work and
bear children. The power and authority lied with the men while women were not given importance in
matters of authority. We see this when Ferdinand and Cardinal attempt to regulate her behavior during
their absence by forbidding her to remarry. However, some women did have authority. This was the
time of Queen Elizabeth who had ample power and had worked hard to keep her reputation in a time
when there was rising gender apprehensions. Such was the case with the Duchess of Malfi as well.
She was a woman with power and authority and wealth. The Duchess was a woman of strength and
did not have a fear of defying authority. Even after her brothers had told her not to remarry, the
Duchess went against their wishes and remarried that also beneath her status. Her brothers see her
defiance as not merely a challenge to their authority but also an act that has hit them hard and made it
imperative for them to teach her a lesson. The society wanted to curb and control women mentality. In

Little Red Riding Hood And Goldilocks Similarities
Growing up, I read many fables and tales of fiction. Two of the most notable being Little Red Riding
Hood and Goldilocks. The reason for this is because they are so relatable to our own childhood of

In the story, Little Red Riding Hood ,a young, obedient girl is given the task of traveling to help her

Because of Cheryl s and Dana s placement of time(s) in Watermelon Woman and Kindred, the
characters journeys are focused differently upon in the matters of history versus historicity. Defining
history as the facts of the past, it is clear that Cheryl lacks history at the basis of her image of
Richards. Dana doesn t lack history in comparison; she knows of the facts from what she learned
through her time in the past, it s simply not written down accurately in records. Dana lived through
history as a prominent figure in the lives of her ancestors. Throughout Kindred, Dana s journey creates
an image of history for readers compared to Cheryl, whose ending of Watermelon Woman is simply an
image she has created for her viewers through the creation of the film. Dana experiences historicity
first handedly throughout time, giving a truth to the representation of history she knows to be missing
from history s records. Cheryl, comparably, is a caught up documentor who uses history to find the
truth, which in her case, can be argued against due to such a lack of records and reliable sources. The
importance of history and historicity lies with how they can be used to represent truth. History is not
always accurate, people are left out and disregarded as being labeled important figures of the past. On
the opposing side, when a character, such as Dana, is so closely tied to being a historistic figure,

HR Managers need to be alert to potential harassment and discrimination issues and act appropriately,

expert advice to people involved in harassment and discrimination cases, both complainants and
alleged offenders.
Victims of harassment in particular may need support and reassurance about the Center s policy and

sources of professional counseling for victims at/for each duty station.
Assisting management in establishing avenues of assistance at all duty stations
While the HR Manager is usually the ultimate source of expert advice and guidance on harassment

The HR Manager may even operate in a different time zone than some of the Center s duty stations.
Consequently staff members at all duty stations who may be experiencing harassment need to have
immediate avenues of assistance. These would either be at their duty station or for their duty station if
it has a very small staff.

brother would want. Another reason is that, he was in a relationship with Joey s sister who was very
distraught about his murder and wants justice for him.
So Terry went to seeit.A final reason for his testimony is because Johnny Friendly is a corrupt person
and he and his thugs were a bad influence on the people in the waterfront.
For Kazan, just like Molloy, he testified against the communist party or named names as the past
interviews would say. Within the testimony he called out the amount of people in Hollywood whom
themselves were communist. I believed it was the right thing to do, at the time, being a member of the

Although Noor, Burton, and Bert (1849, cited in Vinson 1999) state the basic concept of sandwich

Good Will Hunting Directed By Gus Van Sant And Released
Good Will Hunting, directed by Gus Van Sant and released in 1997, focuses on an underprivileged
young man and his group of friends from a lower class Irish area of Boston. Will, who is the main
character, works as a janitor at an elite college, but he is actually a genius. Professors discover his
ability after Will proves a mathematical theorem anonymously on a chalkboard at the college. Despite
his intelligence, he has a criminal record and violent tendencies. Generally, he hides his intellect to fit
with those closest to him. The bar scene gives deep insight into the entire movie, showing the
interpersonal conflict inside Will; being forced to choose between fitting in with his hoodlum family
of friends and his potential life among the educated. The bar scene is early in the movie. Will and his
group of friends Chuckie, Morgan, and Billie are at a Harvard college bar. Almost all the patrons are
people who come from an upper class segment of society. An egotistical male Harvard student named
Clark confronts Chuckie while he is hitting on two of the college girls. Clark automatically looks
down on Chuckie and attempts to belittle his intelligence. Will watches from the shadows of the bar,
but quickly comes forward to defend his friend. He confronts Clark using his witty, intelligent banter
to discredit Clark s attempt at proving his superiority. Will counters every verbal jab thrown his way,
before making an unexpected physical threat to end the confrontation. The scene

community. For example, the local business owners can anticipate damages from disaster and offer
insight on the impacts during pre disaster planning.
The implementation plan will support the community plan by; historical management, prioritizing,
and community support. By looking at Arkansas history of disaster, strategies can be developed to
decrease the impacts. In the past Arkansas, the federal government has paid out disaster aid of over
one billion and 120 million dollars. By prioritizing tasks by the most important to the least important,
Little Rock can better plan to cover a total of 152,000 buildings.
By implementing these factors will increase community satisfaction and promote community
development; which will increase volunteers and community support.
Implementing these strategies and procedures will increase our communities chance for survival and
decrease the impacts of disasters. We need this modification in our mitigation process within three
months, since this will reduce potential lose and increase community satisfaction.
Community Profile

(Learner Guide, n.d) Dreamtime is the beginning, the aboriginal equivalent of the Big Bang theory. According to aboriginal understanding, The Dreamtime is the creation of the world, the time when their Ancestor Beings existed. These Ancestor Beings awakened the dark and silent world by breaking through the earth s crust, causing the sun to rise from the ground and shine light on the earth for the first time. It is believed the Ancestor Beings of Dreamtime were half human in form and resembled creatures or plants. They travelled the earth creating the landscapes of the world on their journeys. They made the aboriginal people, who are the decedents of the dreamtime ancestors, as well as the native animals and creatures of the land. • 3. Dagoberto Gilb Narcissism Do you know the story of Narcissus? He was the very handsome fellow in Greek mythology who, because of his indifference and disdain toward others, was punished by the gods by falling in love with his own image. He was so enraptured by his beauty that he was unable to pull himself away from his own reflection, and he wasted away and died. Narcissism is also considered a social and cultural problem in America. It s not surprising to see a rise in narcissism in this generation given that young people are being bombarded by these messages and sorts of commercial all day, every day through every form of media. It is the same with Jake who is the main character in the story Love in L.A by Dagoberto Gilb. In the story, Jake is consumed with himself and with gaining more pleasure for himself. He wants much more than he has, and he wants it for him to be appraised by many women and finally fell in love with him. Periodic Trends Of Chemical Properties Periodic Trends of Chemical and Physical Properties in Group 1A and 7A Hamish Thomson, Chemistry 11.2, Mr Ryan O Sullivan Intro: In chemistry, there are two classes of observable properties matter can display; chemical and physical. These properties are classified by what needs to happen to the substance before the property becomes evident. Chemical properties require a chemical change while physical properties don t need a chemical change to occur. Four properties of the alkali metals and halogens will be talked about through this essay, two chemical and two physical. The two chemical properties will be reactivity, how willing a substance is to undergo a chemical change and toxicity, the ability of a substance to cause damage to an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Fig 1 the reactivity of Non Metals decreases every period and increases every group, the halogens lie on the end of the group of Non metals causing them to be highly reactive. The alkali metals have a single electron in their outer electron shell, making it easy for them to become a noble gas and period down the periodic table the easier it is to get rid of the extra electron, causing the alkali metals to become more reactive the further down the periods. To become a noble gas a halogen must gain an electron, the farther away the outer shell is from the nucleus, the more energy that is required for an electron to enter the shell. Halogens need one more electron to become a noble gas, while alkali metals need to donate an electron to become a noble gas. (Johnsonburg High School, n.d.) Fig 1. This shows the trends of the reactivity of Metals and non metals on the periodic table. Paragraph 3. Toxicity Toxicity is how dangerous a substance is to an organism, it is commonly measured by the amount required to kill 50% of the population of a given organism. The toxicity of the alkali metals increases each period, due to the increase in reactivity. The toxicity of the halogens decreases as you go down until astatine, which is harmful due to radioactivity (Helmenstine, 2017). Paragraph 4. • 6. European Influence in Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe, presents the result of colonization of the Ibo people by the European missionaries. The Ibo culture is threatened to change by the European influence. Villagers are divided between resisting a new lifestyle or embracing it for better opportunities in society. The struggle to keep Ibo traditions alive is reflected in Okonkwo and Obierika s relationship to one another. Okonkwo represents the resistance of change by keeping traditional values in high regard while, Obierika signifies the openness to opportunity by questioning the current Ibo values. The arrival of European missionaries persuades the exchange of traditional Ibo methods, customs, and community for Christianity, resulting in the community to fall apart. Before the arrival of European influence, villagers of Umuofia had a single option for a way of life. It was a place to be feared, dominated by war and violent practices. Ibo culture is centered on a patriarchal system based on hierarchy; the highest titles held by male egwugwu in the legal system and the osu at the bottom. The main character, Okonkwo, represents the ambition to strive for a higher position in society in order to gain status: His life had been ruled by a great passion to become one of the lords of the clan (131). In the poem We Wear the Mask by Paul Laurence Dunbar the reader should learn that individuals feel the need to wear a mask to change their personality into the more ideal individual which surpasses their confidence, fear, insecurities, and emotions. This poem develops the realities about self image and how it makes individuals act in society. Initially, the poem opens with We wear the mask that grins and lies, it hides our cheeks and shades our eyes (Dunbar, 1 2). The mask presents the truthful and untruthful sides of individuals. The mask is also a work of craftiness as it forces the individual to appear happy, regardless of the pain they may be feeling beneath the surface. Individuals that struggle with themselves wear a mask to show everyone else that they are not struggling and have everything figured out. Just like being in pain With torn and bleeding hearts we smile (Dunbar, 3). Individuals force smiles on their faces to portray to others that they are happy no matter whats going on in their life. It allows the signal to pass through the relay, when the magnetic coil is turned on, connecting 2 contact points together. It works as follows: The relay is made with a bobbin, a coil, a fixed magnetic core, and a movable armature. When the coil is excited, with the magnetic field generated, the armature is maneuvered such that it will be repositioned when the magnetic field is turned on so that the contacts touch and the signal travels through the relay. This design was developed in 1825 [1] and has not since been changed. One drawback to this design is that the utilization of the magnetic flux generated is not efficient. Thus the electrical power supplied to the relay is not sufficiently used making for a flaw in the design, a loss of power. More power is used, when less could be consumed if the design were to be changed. Thus the problem of the current electromagnetic relay is that the power supplied is not used efficiently, so there is a waste of power. With the new green environmentally friendly consumer market on the rise, industries want to be able to use as little power in their circuits as possible. Thus the solution to this power inefficiency is what this innovation tries to affect and hopefully make better. The reader is introduced to the horror of war in the first lines of the poem as Owen portrays the bad physical condition of the men, bent double, like old beggars under sacks . In this paper we will discuss the problems presented with this and the potential solutions to these problems using existing and some futuristic technology. We have broke this into two main parts, one being earth to satellite to planet and back, and the other being planetary ground transmission to and from astronauts to rovers to space stations. On the earth we are only separated from one another by fractions of a second. From earth to mars the average transmission time is 30 45 minutes. That would feel like light years trying to download tracks to your iPod. In order to make this work a massive system of satellites needs to be implemented. These satellites will serve as net gateways with the purpose of conveying data packets. Each piece of equipment will have its own IPN address, or .mars domain name. They will serve as nodes, operating on a packet switched network. Some major possible problems include lag, weak signal, and reduced bandwidth. The solution to all of these lies in a new IPN protocol being developed. This protocol, along with high precision equipment, will help to eliminated all of these. The protocol has changed in two major ways from our own TCP/IP protocol. This first is a packet delivery scheme that won t clog the system by resending missing packets. IPN instead keeps track of arriving packets and then requesting missing ones at the end of delivery. The second is the packet headers will use only one tenth as much bandwidth as TCP/IP. Back on earth there will be gateways to translate. Another big problem with the Interplanetary Internet is speed. Using our current technology the top speed for sending data from a satellite orbiting mars to earth is 250 kbps. Between 1958 and 1960, with a series of 23 canvases known as Black Paintings, Frank Stella cancels out any trace of visual illusionist effects or references, and creates non relational images . He builds a linear pattern, organizing a structure of parallel stripes. With the phrase What you see is what you see , he lays out the elements of absolute flatness of his painting, building, by doing so, a logic rationale to their visual system. It is time for the reasoned geometric rigor of symmetry, regularity and serial repetition. In his minimalism, Stella eliminates color, he uses black paint and then metallic gray and copper paint to reduce the idea of illusion. By focusing on unity and the fabric surface homogeneity the all over he begins to express one of the aspects of the minimalist movement. These paintings are part of the exhibition Sixteen Americans held in 1959 at MoMA. Nonetheless, the reductive course that Stella chose takes him to an alternative path: he chooses to end austerity, by replacing monochromatic stripes with multiple colors and shades that immediately take the viewer to spatial interpretations.
