The Doctrinal Cycle Of Federalism
Federalism is when states or provinces share power with a national government. The United States
government functions by applying the principles of federalism. The doctrinal cycle of federalism
is when the state gain power for a while and then the power is disbursed to the national government
for a while. The power is given back and forth between the states and the national government
creating a cycle of federalism. The ideology of the Supreme Court is an important factor for
determining what level of Congress will hold the power. A liberal Supreme Court is more likely
to let the national government hold more power, while a conservative court is more likely to let
the states hold more power. There are three types of federalism which are cooperative, dual, and
new. The ideology of the Supreme Court affects what type of federalism that the country will live
under.
Cooperative federalism is when all three levels of government collectively interact to solve
common problems. In cooperative federalism there is a strong national government and the
Supreme Court allowed Congress to grow and become more powerful. The court s ideology
during this time was more liberal, which impacts how the court will decide on cases that are
presented to them. The McCulloch v. Maryland case was about Congress creating The Second
Bank of the United States, in the state of Maryland. Maryland at the time passed legislation that
would impose a tax on the bank. James W. McCulloch, a cashier at the

Zoos Literature Review
Are the enclosures in zoos safe and beneficial for the animals? Both authors have different opinions
when it comes to zoo enclosure, but Benbow focuses on how the enclosures have improved over
the years, where Fraser focuses on how the improved enclosures are still not quite safe enough for
the animals. This helped me to understand that although the enclosures have improved, they still
need some work.
In an article by S.M.P. Benbow called Zoos: Public Places to View Private Lives, she discusses how
zoo enclosures have improved over time. She goes into detail about how the enclosures started as
something that was supposed to be exactly like there habitat, and as time goes on it has gotten more
real. Benbow also discusses the different technological advances in the enclosures, and how they
are a space that represents a different place (Benbow, 2000, p 13 23). S.M.P. Benbow worked in the
Department Environment and Geography at the University of Manitoba, and is now the Associate
Dean at the Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth, and Resources. This particular
article was part of her Peer Reviewed works. The motivation behind this work and many others
is her love of the environment. This article is a peer reviewed article, so the structure and
language is professional and scholarly. This article puts a lot of emphasis on zoos being
developed to be like their natural habitats. The majority of the article gives detail on the
development of zoos over the years. The author takes time to explain everything, and backs up all
evidence with quotes and information from other sources. Benbow seems incredibly
knowledgeable on Zoos and the environment. She also leaves out her opinion most of the time and
give mostly facts, but she seems to think the advancements made have helped improve enclosures.
This author makes the idea of zoos seem less bad by explaining how the enclosures have improved
tremendously (Benbow, 2000, p 13 23).
In an article written by Stephen Fraser called Safe Havens, he discusses how enclosures are still
not safe enough. Fraser starts off with a story of a tiger who jumped over and attacked three men.
They found out that the reason the tiger attacked was because the men were taunting the

The Students For A Democratic Society
Description: The Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) was formed in 1959 after they
decided to branch off of the Student League for Industrial Democracy, which was the youth
branch of the Socialist League for Industrial Democracy. The SDS was a radical group made up
of teens and young adults that sought to overthrow America s democratic society and remake it in
a Marxist image. Many of the SDS key members where known as red diaper babies as their parents
were often members of the Communist parties of the 1930 s. The Students for a Democratic Society
s founding can be accredited to a man named Aryeh Neier in 1959; who would later become the
National Executive Director of the ACLU and go on to build two other influential organizations, the
Human RightsWatch and the Open Society Institute. SDS held its first meeting in Ann Arbor,
Michigan in 1960 where it announced its first President, Alan Haber. Haber was an editor for the
student newspaper at the University of Michigan and was known as Ann Arbor s resident radical .
From their first meeting, the SDS decided that they wanted to set the tone and introduce an
itinerary for their generation as they grew to influence the political world. The SDS denounced
bigotry, materialism, personal alienation, and industrialization in America and also widely protested
American abundance, the threat of nuclear war, military spending, and the Cold War. They publicly
addressed this in 1962 by creating what historian Michael Kazin

Research Paper On Pepper Spray Gel
WildFire Hot Pepper Spray Gel vs Pepper Spray
If you want to acquire a pepper spray that is more effective than the typical one, then a pepper gel
is one of the sought after self defense tools that you can obtain nowadays. The difference of pepper
spray gel vs pepper spray liquid varies on the distance, number of shots, size and type. Although
both forms are effective in deterring both human and animal attackers, the pepper spray gel is a
better self defense alternative especially if you are suddenly attacked indoors.
Pepper Spray Gel as a Better Alternative to Other Self Defense Products
When a hot pepper gel is sprayed accurately to your target, the gluey substance would stick to his
face, which makes it harder to wash off. As a matter of fact, you do not have to worry about
overspraying because there is minimal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can help you or the police authorities determine the identity of your attacker once he is
apprehended. You will not have to worry about inflicting self injury or accidental discharge too
because pepper gel has a safety lock feature that can only be released once you intentionally open
it, and the canister used in this product is compact, and it would not be a hassle if you opt to put it
in a holster to be hanged to your belt or to put it in your pocket in case you will not be using it and
have to be doing some errands or going for a walk.
Discover More Benefits of Pepper Gel
Pepper gel exhibits police strength formula, so you are assured that the maximum heat of the
product can lead any attacker to drop his weapon and burst out in pain. It also offers greater
protection too because the distance that was previously mentioned in this review is just
appropriate for you to escape and call the police when needed. Aside from the range, the size and
the spray pattern should also be scrutinized. It is a good thing that the gel spray does not cause
any blow back regardless of any weather

Likewise, for centuries, people and corporations have invested in enterprises in other countries.
In fact, many of the features of the current wave of globalization are similar to those prevailing
before the outbreak of the First World War in 1914. But policy and technological developments
of the past few decades have spurred increases in cross border trade, investment, and migration
so large that many observers believe the world has entered a qualitatively new phase in its
economic development. Since 1950, for example, the volume of world trade has increased by
20 times, and from just 1997 to 1999 flows of foreign investment nearly doubled, from $468
billion to $827 billion. Distinguishing this current wave of globalization from earlier ones,
author Thomas Friedman has said that today globalization is farther, faster, cheaper, and deeper.

Descriptive Essay On The San Juan Mountains
Every place has a taste. My highschool tastes bland, and a little bit like a cracker beginning to go
stale. My home tastes like sunlight on autumn leaves. Every place has a taste, but I will never forget
the taste of the majesty of the San Juan Mountains.
The first time I laid eyes upon the San Juan Mountains, I couldn t believe that I was only a few
miles away from the cold desert that is Colorado. The further into the rugged mountain range the
highway led me, the more awe and disbelief fell upon me. I felt small, and as if I was the first
person to ever discover those hidden valleys that support entire ecosystems of plants and
animals. The scattered puffs of cloud above me painted shadows along the razor edged peaks,
giving an appearance of a mural, rather than massive chunks of rock carved away by the centuries.
I could hear nothing except for the pounding of far off waterfalls and the whispering of the pines,
who shared secrets that nobody but they would ever know. I felt like an intruder, and yet
welcomed. I was lost, but at home.
Around a bend, and out of the blue, there came a town. Even so far from the nearest city, the
town was butsling. Main Street was lined with colorful buildings restored from the Victorian era.
A two floor hotel, elegant even in it s old age, announced its presence at the corner of an
intersection. The stout brick walls stood fortified, defying the valley winds. The occasional house
could be seen through the tightly packed boutiques, shops, and art galleries. One was baby blue
and white, another, the color of dried saffron. Further on down Main Street, natural hot springs
revealed themselves. People of every age packed into the heated pools. A vicious game of
volleyball had commenced, and more people were flocking to the net even in the second it took to
drive past. Eventually, the quaint Main Street ended, and the highway led the car through several
switchbacks that twisted up the side of the valley. At the top, a weather worn sign named the town
Ouray , and the sight below was one to behold. Ouray spread through the bowl formed when rivers
and mountains collide, spreading to the edges until not a shed more could ve been built. But the
highway kept leading, and the car kept

The Life Of Faye G. Abdellah
In life one has to take risks in order to bring forth a vision to life. Through risk taking, Faye G.
Abdellah achieved her inner most dreams which was furthering the science of nursing research.
Faye was a pioneer nursing researcher that helped transform nursing theory, nursing care and
nursing education. In 1960, she was influenced by the desire to promote patient centered
comprehensive nursing care. Abdellah described nursing as a service to individuals, to families
and therefore to the society. She was a rebel from the start in her efforts to promote nursing.
Through time, she learned to disguise her rebellious leadership methods under the title politically
correct. Even when faced with setbacks Faye continued to persevere and thrive for change (Houser
Player, 2004).
Furthermore, a team leader is someone who inspires, mentors, guides, thrives for change and sets
an example. Throughout Faye s life she demonstrated strong team leadership styles such as her
remarkable courage and determination for pursuing her vision. The courageous risks she took in
her leadership roles were all in an effort to bring about change in nursing and improve patient care
throughout the world. For example, during a visit to the San Diego long term care facility Faye
noticed statutory violations and other evidence of substandard care. During her opening of the
conference of the American Health Care Association, she announced to them that the lack of patient
care was unacceptable in the homes

Compare And Contrast Rosemary s Baby And The Omen
Heit argues that both films deliberately work against the concept of free will as they perpetuated
the prevalent conceit of the sixties that control over one s fate no longer existed, that choice was
an illusion; and that, at any time, for reasons beyond one s comprehension, the devil could
destroy one s life . The protagonist in Rosemary s Baby is left to deal with the knowledge of
being raped by the devil, who has chosen her to be the mother of his child. Meanwhile in The Omen
, Damien does not get to choose or participate in the act of free will as his fate had already been
chosen prior to his birth, having been made the Antichrist by the devil. He is to protect the legacy
he has been handed with, no matter who or what may come his way.... Show more content on

Their portrayal of evil is comparative, and the idea of the other being influenced by the thought
that fault is regularly pushed elsewhere is outstandingly common in both films. On the other hand,
their executions are diverse as far as style. As specified in this essay, Polanski concentrates more
on a persuading story that stays within certain components to create a practical setting around
surrealism. The circumstance in Rosemary s Baby is ironic on the grounds that babies are one of
the main things in this world that we consider totally guiltless, and it s difficult to choose whether
Rosemary s infant is pure or not, yet, it has done nothing to strip itself of its honesty. Donner
heavily focuses his attention to detail regarding The Omen and its aesthetics; how the camerawork
is setup to exemplify the mood of death, presented in such ways that it symbolises the power of the
devil. Yet, when looking at the insidiousness that is of the two devilish youngsters, the observers
are acquainted with Donner s depiction of Damien is much more horrific in the sense that the child
actually kills people while under the control of Satan, whereas Polanski leaves the spectator
assuming that Rosemary may have found happiness in the end through the tribulations of

Pre Reformation Research Paper
The State of the Pre Reformation Church
There are various ideas about the state of the church before the Reformation. Some individuals say
that the church was still considered to be a pillar of hope and comfort for the English people to
look up to and gain reassurance from in the 1500s. Others however say that the church was in a
horrific state, promoting wrong doing and malevolence. The question to be further considered is
whether the church during the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries fulfilled its functions
while keeping the good English people satisfied.
It has been argued that the pre reformation church was a corrupt and failing institution and therefore

A Bishop was also obliged to attend Parliament, as he owed the service of counsel to the king, but
not many attended regularly. Another grievance towards the Bishops was sexual irregularity with
many Bishops seemingly ignoring their vow of chastity by having mistresses and illegitimate
children. Neglect of the care of souls and simony were also attributed to the Bishops.
The lower clergy and parish priests on the other hand were viewed as both rapacious and
ignorant. They were very important for the vast majority of the English people, living in
isolated rural communities as they were the only effective representatives of the universal
church. Therefore, if they were ineffective many peasants would suffer. According to figures
quoted by G R Elton this could be true. Educational standards were very low, so it was fairly
easy for somebody to become a parish priest. A sixteenth century survey of the diocese of
Gloucester showed that out of 311 clergy 168 could not recite the Ten Commandments, and 33
could not locate them in the Bible. 10 could recite the Lords Prayer, and 39 did not know where to
find it in the Bible. Between 1500 50, 869 East Anglican clergy died and left wills and these reveal
that only 158 possessed any books at all, and only 17 left Bibles. This would undoubtedly be a

Baseball s Influence On American Culture
Baseball is often referred to as America s pastime and a symbol of American culture. Baseball
has long stood as an integral part of the American way of life. Yet, for nearly one hundred years
of its professional life a significant portion of the population was banned from participating in
baseball at the Major League level. Some of America s most talented ballplayers were forced to
play in leagues that provided little support or opportunity. Because of an unwritten rule, baseballs
hierarchy prevented African American men from playing on the same team as white men, even if
the African American men s talents far exceeded that of their white counterparts. Baseball s
eventual integration would change the face of American culture and upend... Show more content on

As Tygiel pointed out, the Negro Leagues profits did not even begin to pick up until after the
conclusion of World War II. While many players in the Negro Leagues had just as much talent
as Major Leaguers, black players were never granted the same recognition as their white
counterparts. While white players were able to live fairly comfortable lifes as ballplayers,
blacks lived lives of difficulty. Seasons were very long in the Negro Leagues, often topping out
around 200 games. Unlike in the majors where teams would remain in the same city for three or
four days, Negro League teams usually found themselves in a new location for every game.
Teams had to travel in order to get by and some even ended up playing in Latin American in
order to earn more money. The average pay for a black player ranged from $125 to $300 a
month which when compared with white players was less than 50% of what the white players
made. Negro League teams were also smaller and players were expected to be versatile on the
field. It is sometimes argued that many black players exceeded white players in ability. Sadly, due
to lower attendance rates, black players often had to put on shows before their games just to attract
a crowd according to Tygiel in The Negro

Social Phobia And Social Anxiety Disorder Essay
Social Phobia, also called social anxiety disorder (SAD), is one of the most common, but
misconstrued mental health problems in society. According to the Anxiety and Depression
Association of America (ADAA), over 15 million adults suffer from the disorder. First appearing in
the DSM III as Social Phobia, and later in the DSM IV as Social AnxietyDisorder, this newly
established disorder denotes afflicting stress and anxiety associated with social situations (Zakri
677). According to James W. Jefferson, two forms of Social phobia exist: specific and generalized.
Specific social phobia indicates anxiety limited to few performance situations, while generalized
indicates anxiety in all social situations (Jefferson). Many people often interchangeably link this
disorder to shyness a personality trait. However, although they have striking similarities, the two are
divergent. To begin with, SAD has an extensive etiology ranging from multiple factors.
Furthermore, symptoms of various aspects accompany SAD. Moreover, SAD has detrimental
impacts affecting quality of life. Lastly, SAD has numerous methods of treatment. Social Phobia is
prevalent in both women and men beginning at the onset of puberty (ADAA).
What is the etiology of Social Phobia? James Jefferson describes the causes of SAD as enigmatic
. In other words, researchers have not yet established the causes of SAD. Nevertheless, theories of
its roots surround SAD. Social phobia has an extensive etiology ranging from

Etiology Of Alcoholism
Alcohol is consumed worldwide as part of the American cultures, traditions, and celebrations.
People idolize famous movie characters such as James Bond, whom likes his martini shaken, not
stirred. There are television commercials that show the only true way to have fun at a party is if
multiple cases of bud light are involved, and congratulating a newly wedded couple would not be
the same without a Blanc de Blancs champagne toast. But where is the line drawn that determines
the difference of an innocent night with family and friends, and the need and urgency for the next
alcoholic beverage?
According to the mayo clinic (2012), the definition of alcohol dependency, also known as
alcoholism is:

Man will be uplifted just like the geese flying south for the winter by observing the exquisiteness
of nature around him. Updike continues his portrayal of the vast splendor of nature through
metaphors, similes, and diction pertaining to a large flock of starlings that flew and over and lit
on the gold course where the two men in the poem are playing. The approaching flock of birds
seem like a cloud of dots (Line 16) on the horizon to observers. The author compares The image
of the steadily approaching flock of starlings to iron filings (the birds) stuck to a magnet through
a piece of paper (the horizon). The men stand in awe of the black, writhing, approaching mass,
much like children do when the magnet picks up the filings through the paper. By comparing the
approaching birds to the magnet and iron filing scenario in a simile, Updike subtly likens the
men reaction to a small child s reaction when he/she sees the magic of the magnet and the iron
filings for the first time. The simile purpose is to show how nature can make grown men feel like
small, free little kids when experiencing nature at its best. As the observers continue to watch the
looming flock of birds, the flock became one huge pulsating mass of birds that seemed as much as
one thing as a rock. (Line 22) Updike once again eloquently portrays nature as absolutely stunning
to show how nature affects man. The birds descended in a huge evenly tinted (Line

computer lab and researched on ebsco database. I was a bit lazy, then a couple weeks later i
finally took the plunge and went to the library. I love books and libraries, but it s just a social
issue for me. Books are so personal and to have someone else read and feel the same things is
just so exposing and you kinda feel naked. So being in a library with other people is somewhat...
weird. But finally my friend, lauren, and i entered the library. I initially had a hard time finding
any books, i really don t like asking for help because it s honestly awkward. But i found an initial

found that there was a somewhat large isle all pertaining to graphic design. I m short, so i made
sure to bring a tall friend to reach the books on the top shelf. I proceeded to grab three books,

the different aspects of Graphic design. I also watched a documentary on netflix called Abstract:

Designing For Many Architects And Designers
Designing for people is a challenge for many architects and designers. The idea of creating
something innovative, beautiful or in this case, sculptural, which stands the test of time, is ideal for
many designers. But what happens when a building doesn t meet the needs of its occupants? What
happens when, what is considered, a magnificent architectural feat begins to leak, grow mold and
become a safety hazard?
The Ray and Maria Stata Center for Computer, Information and Intelligence Sciences (also referred
to as Building 32) is housed on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology s (MIT) historic Building
20 site. Between 1946 and 1948, Building 20 functioned primarily as a temporary facility
specifically for wartime outdoor training exercises, and as a research laboratory for war related
innovations. Building 20 continued to function as a research facility until its 1998 demolition.
Architect, Frank Gehry was selected, from a pool of sixteen firms, to design the new building after
funding became available through a donation from Ray and Maria Stata in 1998. The Institute
sought a daring design that set them a part and portrayed the school as the best. The criteria
initially established by MIT in 1989 proposed buildings that wrapped around the exterior of the site,
opening the interior space to the campus. This didn t quite match Gehry s vision. Instead, Gehry
challenged MIT s traditional bar buildings by dividing the building mass into clusters, connecting
the interiors

Memory Keepers Daughter Literary Analysis Essay
In the book The Memory Keeper s Daughter by Kim Edwards a doctor and his wife have twins
and the first child is a healthy boy but then the second child that comes out is a little girl with the
signs of down syndrome and he asks his Nurse to take the baby away to an institution while he
tells his wife the baby girl died. Through out the entire book it is a struggle for Dr. Henry s wife
Norah to have closure with the fact that her baby girl is said to be dead and she never saw her,
held her, or cared for her. Kim Edwards shows through the whole book that we are only human, the
themes that life is beyond our control and through the connection between suffering and joy.

But David, you missed a lot of joy . In the theme that life is beyond our control the author Kim
Edwards has the book move through the years rapidly and at a fast pace in order to demonstrate
how life flys by. Throughout the book Edwards uses photography as a metaphor showing the
character David s growing obsession with taking photographs as a desperate attempt to make
time stand still: Photo after photo, as if he could stop time or make an image powerful enough
to obscure the moment when he turned and handed his daughter to Caroline Gill . Life may also
feel as it is out of their control with there being a constant aura of uncertainty or what if quality.
That being said, the characters in the end will always wonder what life would have been like if
David had never given his daughter away, but find it exhausting to wonder once they are
brought together in the end after the death of David. As Paul reflects at the end of the novel: His
mother was right; he could never know what might have happened. All he had were the facts .
Life was also seeming to be out of anyone s control with the struggle of the melancholy tone
through the novel with Norah becoming more and more depressed becoming that of a drinker in
Paul s young life and then being so unhappy with her marriage with David for him being so
distant that she has an affair with a man while she is on a trip to Aruba with her job. Even with the
tone the author seems to have it progress in a

Jonah John Piper Essay
In The Education of a Prophet: Jonah John Piper discusses the idea of Christians that have
strong racist views. He starts his sermon by talking about his hometown church and its racist
members, then he compares these people to members of the Ku Klux Klan, and last of all he
discussed the nationalistic views Jonah had. Piper had found the idea of Christians harboring
racist views troubling and made several arguments on why Christians cannot be racist.
According to John Piper, church members of his mother s church are racists because they voted
against blacks from attending their congregation; however the members are Christians and yet
they harbor such racist views. Then Piper claims that this racism is contrary to the spirit of Jesus
Christ who told us to love our enemies and to do good to those who hate us (Luke 6:27, 28).
This had baffled Piper, how could these Christians possess such racist views? I think Piper
cleared this issue up when brought up the story of The Good Samaritan . Even though the two
races despise each other the Samaritan still had the heart to take care of the stranded man. Piper
had also recalled being at a party for you church couples and man had bragged... Show more content

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Early Onset Bipolar Disorder
Early onset bipolar disorder is a chronic mood disturbance that causes dramatic shifts in one s
mood that is uncharacteristic of their normal mood and behavior. This hereditary behavioral
disorder causes mood swings from extreme lows, depression, to extreme highs, mania. It usually
occurs in mid to late adolescence but can appear as early as elementary school. The unique
symptoms of this age group are angry and aggressive outbursts followed by periods of remorse and
guilt, declining academic performance, extreme moodiness, inability to handle frustration or
control at least one of the child s body systems (e.g. bedwetting) and worsening disruptive behavior.

for mania listed in the DSM IV TR includes an overly high, expansive, or irritable mood present
for at least one week; but if the child has been hospitalized, this time period may be shorter. Three
of these symptoms must also be present: a decreased need for sleep, talkativeness or a feeling of
pressure to keep talking, abrupt changes of topic during speech or racing thoughts, distractibility,

Ch. 5 Essay
Statuses
The role we play in society can help influence and define who someone us. These statuses refer to
of the full range of socially defined positions within a large group or society, from the lowest to
the higher. (Schaefer, 2014, p. 106 ) Statuses can either come during birth or can be acquired later
in life. Someone might wear several hats in life, but their main status can be the indicator of who is
this particular person. Our statuses don t define us, but they are an part of us.
According to R.T. Schaefer in his textbook Sociology: a brief introduction (11th ed.), Sociologists
view some statuses as ascribed and others as achieved. (Schaefer, 2014, p. 106 ) Factors you can
t control are related to the social position of ascribed status. These statuses are received at birth
and will stay with you until death, a few of these are your racial background, age, and gender. Also,
other traits you can t control like a parent or a spouse dying would go under ascribed status. The
statuses that come from our efforts and decisions are known as achieved ... Show more content on

Bauer racing against the clock to save the United Statesfrom terrorist attacks and plots. In the series

Because the scene takes place in Korea, one can conclude that the torturers are of Korean descent
and torturing a man of Asian descent. The scene implicates that because the torturers and victim
are of Asian descent, the U.S. is not responsible for these actions. The reality however, is that
U.S. personnel are sitting in an adjacent room waiting to receive the information extracted from
the NSA. The U.S. is able to receive the information necessary to protect its country without
getting its hands dirty. Many will argue that the U.S. is still, to an extent, accountable for
torturing a man. The show however cleverly justifies its involvement by the scarcity of time.
Alan Dershowits s ticking time bomb scenario comes alive in the Fox Television series. The
ticking time bomb scenario, poses the question of whether a government is justified to torture a
terrorist in order to extract information on a time sensitive bomb, that will kill many lives. The
creators use Dershowitz s reasoning to justify the United States involvement. Because time is
scarce and American lives were in danger the U.S. is justified to torturing the suspect. The creators
of the show however are significantly clever because they depict the scene so that no American is
physically involved in the torturing process. The show does this because the U.S. would never
partake in torturing one of its own or supposedly any human. The show convinces it s viewers

Analysis Of Freda In The Dew Talker
Question Two
Choose three characters from the novel The Dew Breaker by Edwidge Danticat (they must not be
from the same section) that resonate for you and explain why each of these characters speaks to
you. Explain why Danticat includes each character in the novel, in other words, what is their
purpose; why is this character here? Identify and discuss the issues that Danticat is using this
character to explore and how does she achieve this?
The Dew Breaker presented many interesting characters, so it was difficult for me to decide on
just three. The obvious choice would have been the Dew Breaker himself, but I decided to forgo
him and discuss three other less dominate figures in the novel. I chose these three women because
of their trials and tribulations, and tremendous strength to overcome their past. For this question, I
will write about Freda, in The Funeral Singer, Aunt Estine, in Night Talkers, and Anne, in The Book
of Miracles.
Freda The Funeral Singer Freda is the example of strength and determination in this story. I
admire that quality, especially in a woman in the 1970 s. It was more challenging in that decade
for a woman to be taken seriously, so as a consequence, most of the time, nothing was said, and
you kept quiet. This character was chosen to be the narrator of this story. Along with her other two
friends, she tells her compelling story about her life and the reason why she left Haiti to come to

The narrator s voice is clearly distinct from the voice of each person in the converstaion. While
names and introductions are still used, they are not necessary since the vocal uniqueness of each
speaker allows for easy comprehension of the listener. Background sounds are often picked up

Cloud Computing And The Protection Of Intellectual Property
Trust in Cloud Computing
Cloud computing has a duty to protect data privacy and some countries are going to great measures
to further ensure that their data is kept within their national borders (Trend Micro, 2013). It has
been suggested that new ethics frameworks are necessary in order to instill trust in the industry
based on known parameters that include
the use of critical equipment,
management of critical data,
respect for privacy,
security and longevity of information,
And the protection of intellectual property.
Worldwide, both the public and private sectors have grown in their distrust and discomfort in the
ability of companies to handle user data properly. Trust must be restored by defining a clear line
between legitimate security concerns and an individual s right to privacy. One way to ensure
privacy is by separating the application that is being used (cloud service) from the data it stores
and some providers are already employing this method.
Privacy concerns recently increased after a private company, inBloom secured over 600 New York
schools as a client for student data handling (Trend Micro, 2013). inBloom described its effort as a
plan to integrate a technology that could aggregate and store student information for educational
institutions and then release it to approved third parties that would then personalize tools and
dashboards specifically for classroom educators and those students (Herold, 2014). They became the

The Vietnam War Of The Cold War
The Vietnam war started as a U.S. strategy of authority in times of the cold war, which was
directed to prevent the advancement of communism in the world. The War had begun in 1954,
after the rise of power with Ho Chi Minh and his communist Viet Minh party in North Vietnam,
and continued against the backdrop of an intense Cold War against the United States and the Soviet
Union. More than 3 million people were killed, including 58,000 Americans. In 1975, communist
forces took control of Saigon, ending the Vietnam War, and the Country was combined as the
Socialist Republican of Vietnam the following year. The Vietnamese wanted the desire to have a
national government that was truly independent. While the Americans were afraid of communist
expansion. Ho Chi Minh who had led a party about communism had great power and because of
that Americans were scared that he would spread Communism throughout the world. To prevent
from communism affecting the world using the Domino Theory, so America went to War. The
Involvement of United States affected the Vietnam War in a big and successful way. The main
reason Americans joined the War because they did not want Communism to effect the world.
Communism is a political theory derived from Karl Marx, advocating class and war and leading
to a society in which all property is publicly owned and each person works and is paid according to
their abilities and needs. In Vietnam Communism was formed when Ho Chi Minh united the 3

Although the word is often applied loosely, Puritan refers to two distinct groups: separating
Puritans, such as the Plymouth colonists, who believed that the Church of England was corrupt and
that true Christians must separate themselves from it; and non separating Puritans, such as the
colonists who settled the Massachusetts Bay Colony, who believed in reform but not separation.
Most Massachusetts colonists were non separating Puritans who wished to reform the established
church, largely Congregationalists who believed in forming churches through voluntary compacts.
The idea of compacts or covenants was central to the Puritans conception of social, political, and
religious organizations. Since the Puritans settled in Massachusetts, the colony began with much
democracy like town councils supported by Puritan religion. They also caused an exodus of
people who believed differently from them and were in the colony. This exodus led to the creation

Cooperative Cation Binding Catalysis For Direct Generation...
Abstract In this study, the concept of cooperative cation binding catalysis was elegantly applied for

CHAPTER ONE

The financial services industry has undergone substantial changes from regulatory, technological,

The Life Of The Beach
NOT for nothing did the Beach Boys produce all that wonderful music in the 1960s. If you have
ever visited California, you will realise pretty quickly that the state in which they grew up was
what inspired those great sounds. It is the state of the beautiful people. Everybody seems to be
laidback about life and yet most Californians are obsessed with exercise, keeping fit and keeping
their looks for as long as possible (whether it be through botox or going under the knife).
Everybody, it seems, goes out for a run. And yet, they will climb into a car to go to a shopping mall
100 yards down the road. The climate is wonderful, and if you are able to get behind the wheel
of a convertible and drive along the Pacific Coast Highway with Barbara Ann, I Can Hear Music,
Sloop John B or Surfin Safari blaring and the stunning views of the ocean at hand then you will
be able to die happy. It was on my bucket list and I have done it. There is nothing to beat it. I have
also played golfin California and I ve got to tell you that it is something you have to experience.
There is very little rain in this part of the world but it is the greenest state in America, with
everybody who lives there into recycling and conserving water and energy. To keep their greens
and fairways in perfect condition, most of the golf courses use either reconstituted water or water
that has gone through a desalienation plant. And they do a great job, too. Course architects also use
a resilient blend of

The Gulag Research Paper
In conclusion, the conditions that many suffered when in the Gulags were unimaginable. Many
say it was easier to commit suicide rather than to suffer and live each and every day in these
intense labor camps. Many were starved to extreme measures and even the most hard working
people were feed little to nothing at all. Sleeping conditions were nowhere near to comfortable.
Over a million perished between 1923 1953 and very few made it out and even if they did the
Gulags were set in remote areas so they would not make it too far from the camp and would
eventually die. Unlike concentration camps, you were eventually released from the Gulags, but
once you were released you were either half dead or suffered severe psychological trauma. Many

Empathy In The Book Thief
The Inconvenient Truth
The abstraction behind the term empathy is easily argued as one of society s greatest
misconceptions, actively acting as a redoubtable paragon of delusion. Much of this idea is
founded upon the belief that the general collective are inherently good people. However, the
concept, through its delusive facade, is repeatedly betrayed in the media as well as in various
works of classical and modernized literature. As effectively portrayed in the novel, The Book Thief
by Markus Zusak, as well as in the film, The Boy in Striped Pyjamas directed by Mark Herman, this
self gratifying concept created by society is recurrently illustrated and personified through the
events of the holocaust. The basis of this argument is engendered by the belief that relationships
amatory or platonic are radically based off the findings of common interests, more specifically those
developed between the protagonist and supporting characters of each given story. This concept of
empathy, although perceived in leading roles, is a non existent trait among humans that is recreated
purely in the interest of convenience further demonstrating its delusory nature. Through friendships
formed by elements of relatability, the struggle some attempts at being sympathetically rounded,
and prompted acts of benevolence that work in the favour of self image, this quality of empathy as
argued inherent in humans is proven to be nothing more than an inventive trait idealized in
fictitious characters.

Technology In The Book Anthem
We were born with a curse (18). At the beginning of the book Anthem, this quote explains how
Equality 2721 feels about himself. He is describing how he thinks and wishes about things that
are forbidden. In the book Anthem, one topic of discussion is technology and science.
Technology and science is presumed to be feared in the book and is primitive. The government
and most of the city s citizens are programmed to be fearful of new inventions and discoveries. In
the book, Equality 7 2521 has discovered that he is different from all of the others. He is more
attentive and more intelligent. The Teachers in the Home of the Students disapprove of his
ability to be superior to others. He was sentenced to be a Street Sweeper, to try to prevent his
creativity. Later on in the book, Equality has been experimenting with electricity and finally
discovers the light bulb. He presents this to the World Council and they say he is a disgrace, for a
Street Sweeper to try to become superior to others. This shows that they are fearful of technology
and science.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Equality is explaining what the Old Ones talk about in the Home of the Useless. Technology in
Anthem is progressing slowly. It took 50 years to just discover and to approve of the candle.
Compared to our present day technology, the technology in the book would be similar to colonial
time technology. There are no phones, no commuters, no internet, no electricity, nothing technology
wise. They are used to writing with ink and paper, using candles for light sources, and work was
their only pass

Proper Discipline
Discipline PVT La Plante Discipline means control gained by enforcing obedience or order. It
also means orderly or prescribed conduct or pattern of behavior. Discipline is important in all
situations by everyone young old. Discipline can vary from keeping yourself from eating the last
piece of pizza or killing someone. Without discipline, the world would be more chaotic than what
it is now. Jim Rohn said once Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.
Discipline is applied to each activity in our lives. I however have shown a extreme lack of
discipline by falling asleep in class, in doing so I have shown a tremendous lack of discipline to

rounded respected war fighting organization, because they truly are a example of great
leadership which can only be obtained by strict order through discipline. By my actions, I have
practically spat in the face of the organization by pulling a complete one eighty of what the army
is about, because while I fall asleep in class there are soldiers over seas who are fighting for their
lives to protect the whole country s freedom my self righteous, pathetic way of living. Those
soldiers who I speak of train themselves through mental discipline courage to stay awake for

Virtual Private Network ( Vpn ) Service And Steps

to setup. Emphasis will be on network and operating system for the VPN services. It will look at
the types of connections a small business might expect to encounter when using VPN s. The
security concerns of choices in the set up of the connections for both parties including: type of
encryption available and Firewall issues. Last of all what are the overall security concerns when
using a VPN including problems with a discussion of fixes and security patches. Security

Before installing the VPN services, however, a number of things must be taken into
consideration. By evaluating who is using the VPN, the hardware necessary to make good
connections, the pros and cons of differing connection protocols, and evaluating past security
problems, setting up the VPN services becomes a much smoother process. VPN s and Firewalls
Anyone who will be accessing the VPN services should have a firewall in place.Once a VPN
connection is established, the client is essentially able to access information behind the
company s firewall, thus creating an access hole. Therefore, insisting a client use and maintain a
firewall is another layer in the security of the VPN setup. The ease of changing the firewall rules
to allow VPN connections should be addressed. Very old firewalls, either appliance types or
software types, may be difficult or impossible to configure to allow VPN access.A small business
may stay with an old firewall for many reasons, one of which might be the fact that there has been
no reason to upgrade in the past. It would be prudent to check the firewall documentation before
becoming enmeshed in the VPN process, only to have it fail for lack of access, or creating a setup
that might be considered insecure. User Considerations When setting up the VPN server(s) at the
main office, who is using the connection and how much access to the internal network,

  • 2. The Doctrinal Cycle Of Federalism Federalism is when states or provinces share power with a national government. The United States government functions by applying the principles of federalism. The doctrinal cycle of federalism is when the state gain power for a while and then the power is disbursed to the national government for a while. The power is given back and forth between the states and the national government creating a cycle of federalism. The ideology of the Supreme Court is an important factor for determining what level of Congress will hold the power. A liberal Supreme Court is more likely to let the national government hold more power, while a conservative court is more likely to let the states hold more power. There are three types of federalism which are cooperative, dual, and new. The ideology of the Supreme Court affects what type of federalism that the country will live under. Cooperative federalism is when all three levels of government collectively interact to solve common problems. In cooperative federalism there is a strong national government and the Supreme Court allowed Congress to grow and become more powerful. The court s ideology during this time was more liberal, which impacts how the court will decide on cases that are presented to them. The McCulloch v. Maryland case was about Congress creating The Second Bank of the United States, in the state of Maryland. Maryland at the time passed legislation that would impose a tax on the bank. James W. • 3. Zoos Literature Review Are the enclosures in zoos safe and beneficial for the animals? Both authors have different opinions when it comes to zoo enclosure, but Benbow focuses on how the enclosures have improved over the years, where Fraser focuses on how the improved enclosures are still not quite safe enough for the animals. This helped me to understand that although the enclosures have improved, they still need some work. In an article by S.M.P. Benbow called Zoos: Public Places to View Private Lives, she discusses how zoo enclosures have improved over time. She goes into detail about how the enclosures started as something that was supposed to be exactly like there habitat, and as time goes on it has gotten more real. Benbow also discusses the different technological advances in the enclosures, and how they are a space that represents a different place (Benbow, 2000, p 13 23). S.M.P. Benbow worked in the Department Environment and Geography at the University of Manitoba, and is now the Associate Dean at the Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth, and Resources. This particular article was part of her Peer Reviewed works. The motivation behind this work and many others is her love of the environment. This article is a peer reviewed article, so the structure and language is professional and scholarly. This article puts a lot of emphasis on zoos being developed to be like their natural habitats. The majority of the article gives detail on the development of zoos over the years. The author takes time to explain everything, and backs up all evidence with quotes and information from other sources. Benbow seems incredibly knowledgeable on Zoos and the environment. She also leaves out her opinion most of the time and give mostly facts, but she seems to think the advancements made have helped improve enclosures. This author makes the idea of zoos seem less bad by explaining how the enclosures have improved tremendously (Benbow, 2000, p 13 23). In an article written by Stephen Fraser called Safe Havens, he discusses how enclosures are still not safe enough. Fraser starts off with a story of a tiger who jumped over and attacked three men. They found out that the reason the tiger attacked was because the men were taunting the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Students For A Democratic Society Description: The Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) was formed in 1959 after they decided to branch off of the Student League for Industrial Democracy, which was the youth branch of the Socialist League for Industrial Democracy. The SDS was a radical group made up of teens and young adults that sought to overthrow America s democratic society and remake it in a Marxist image. Many of the SDS key members where known as red diaper babies as their parents were often members of the Communist parties of the 1930 s. The Students for a Democratic Society s founding can be accredited to a man named Aryeh Neier in 1959; who would later become the National Executive Director of the ACLU and go on to build two other influential organizations, the Human RightsWatch and the Open Society Institute. SDS held its first meeting in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1960 where it announced its first President, Alan Haber. • 8. Descriptive Essay On The San Juan Mountains Every place has a taste. My highschool tastes bland, and a little bit like a cracker beginning to go stale. My home tastes like sunlight on autumn leaves. Every place has a taste, but I will never forget the taste of the majesty of the San Juan Mountains. The first time I laid eyes upon the San Juan Mountains, I couldn t believe that I was only a few miles away from the cold desert that is Colorado. The further into the rugged mountain range the highway led me, the more awe and disbelief fell upon me. I felt small, and as if I was the first person to ever discover those hidden valleys that support entire ecosystems of plants and animals. The scattered puffs of cloud above me painted shadows along the razor edged peaks, giving an appearance of a mural, rather than massive chunks of rock carved away by the centuries. I could hear nothing except for the pounding of far off waterfalls and the whispering of the pines, who shared secrets that nobody but they would ever know. I felt like an intruder, and yet welcomed. I was lost, but at home. Around a bend, and out of the blue, there came a town. Even so far from the nearest city, the town was butsling. Main Street was lined with colorful buildings restored from the Victorian era. A two floor hotel, elegant even in it s old age, announced its presence at the corner of an intersection. The stout brick walls stood fortified, defying the valley winds. The occasional house could be seen through the tightly packed boutiques, shops, and art galleries. One was baby blue and white, another, the color of dried saffron. Further on down Main Street, natural hot springs revealed themselves. People of every age packed into the heated pools. A vicious game of volleyball had commenced, and more people were flocking to the net even in the second it took to drive past. Eventually, the quaint Main Street ended, and the highway led the car through several switchbacks that twisted up the side of the valley. At the top, a weather worn sign named the town Ouray , and the sight below was one to behold. Ouray spread through the bowl formed when rivers and mountains collide, spreading to the edges until not a shed more could ve been built. But the highway kept leading, and the car kept ... Abdellah achieved her inner most dreams which was furthering the science of nursing research. Faye was a pioneer nursing researcher that helped transform nursing theory, nursing care and nursing education. In 1960, she was influenced by the desire to promote patient centered comprehensive nursing care. Abdellah described nursing as a service to individuals, to families and therefore to the society. She was a rebel from the start in her efforts to promote nursing. Through time, she learned to disguise her rebellious leadership methods under the title politically correct. Even when faced with setbacks Faye continued to persevere and thrive for change (Houser Player, 2004). Furthermore, a team leader is someone who inspires, mentors, guides, thrives for change and sets an example. Throughout Faye s life she demonstrated strong team leadership styles such as her remarkable courage and determination for pursuing her vision. The courageous risks she took in her leadership roles were all in an effort to bring about change in nursing and improve patient care throughout the world. The protagonist in Rosemary s Baby is left to deal with the knowledge of being raped by the devil, who has chosen her to be the mother of his child. Meanwhile in The Omen , Damien does not get to choose or participate in the act of free will as his fate had already been chosen prior to his birth, having been made the Antichrist by the devil. The circumstance in Rosemary s Baby is ironic on the grounds that babies are one of the main things in this world that we consider totally guiltless, and it s difficult to choose whether Rosemary s infant is pure or not, yet, it has done nothing to strip itself of its honesty. The simile purpose is to show how nature can make grown men feel like small, free little kids when experiencing nature at its best. The Ray and Maria Stata Center for Computer, Information and Intelligence Sciences (also referred to as Building 32) is housed on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology s (MIT) historic Building 20 site. These statuses refer to of the full range of socially defined positions within a large group or society, from the lowest to the higher. (Schaefer, 2014, p. 106 ) Statuses can either come during birth or can be acquired later in life. Someone might wear several hats in life, but their main status can be the indicator of who is this particular person. Our statuses don t define us, but they are an part of us. According to R.T. Schaefer in his textbook Sociology: a brief introduction (11th ed.), Sociologists view some statuses as ascribed and others as achieved. (Schaefer, 2014, p. 106 ) Factors you can t control are related to the social position of ascribed status. These statuses are received at birth and will stay with you until death, a few of these are your racial background, age, and gender. Because the scene takes place in Korea, one can conclude that the torturers are of Korean descent and torturing a man of Asian descent. The scene implicates that because the torturers and victim are of Asian descent, the U.S. is not responsible for these actions. The reality however, is that U.S. personnel are sitting in an adjacent room waiting to receive the information extracted from the NSA. The U.S. is able to receive the information necessary to protect its country without getting its hands dirty. Many will argue that the U.S. is still, to an extent, accountable for torturing a man. The show however cleverly justifies its involvement by the scarcity of time. Alan Dershowits s ticking time bomb scenario comes alive in the Fox Television series. The ticking time bomb scenario, poses the question of whether a government is justified to torture a terrorist in order to extract information on a time sensitive bomb, that will kill many lives. The creators use Dershowitz s reasoning to justify the United States involvement. Because time is scarce and American lives were in danger the U.S. is justified to torturing the suspect. The creators of the show however are significantly clever because they depict the scene so that no American is physically involved in the torturing process. • 29. Explain why Danticat includes each character in the novel, in other words, what is their purpose; why is this character here? Identify and discuss the issues that Danticat is using this character to explore and how does she achieve this? The Dew Breaker presented many interesting characters, so it was difficult for me to decide on just three. The obvious choice would have been the Dew Breaker himself, but I decided to forgo him and discuss three other less dominate figures in the novel. I chose these three women because of their trials and tribulations, and tremendous strength to overcome their past. For this question, I will write about Freda, in The Funeral Singer, Aunt Estine, in Night Talkers, and Anne, in The Book of Miracles. Freda The Funeral Singer Freda is the example of strength and determination in this story. I admire that quality, especially in a woman in the 1970 s. It was more challenging in that decade for a woman to be taken seriously, so as a consequence, most of the time, nothing was said, and you kept quiet. This character was chosen to be the narrator of this story. Cloud Computing And The Protection Of Intellectual Property Trust in Cloud Computing Cloud computing has a duty to protect data privacy and some countries are going to great measures to further ensure that their data is kept within their national borders (Trend Micro, 2013). It has been suggested that new ethics frameworks are necessary in order to instill trust in the industry based on known parameters that include the use of critical equipment, management of critical data, respect for privacy, security and longevity of information, And the protection of intellectual property. Worldwide, both the public and private sectors have grown in their distrust and discomfort in the ability of companies to handle user data properly. Trust must be restored by defining a clear line between legitimate security concerns and an individual s right to privacy. One way to ensure privacy is by separating the application that is being used (cloud service) from the data it stores and some providers are already employing this method. Privacy concerns recently increased after a private company, inBloom secured over 600 New York schools as a client for student data handling (Trend Micro, 2013). inBloom described its effort as a plan to integrate a technology that could aggregate and store student information for educational institutions and then release it to approved third parties that would then personalize tools and dashboards specifically for classroom educators and those students (Herold, 2014). • 41. Empathy In The Book Thief The Inconvenient Truth The abstraction behind the term empathy is easily argued as one of society s greatest misconceptions, actively acting as a redoubtable paragon of delusion. Much of this idea is founded upon the belief that the general collective are inherently good people. However, the concept, through its delusive facade, is repeatedly betrayed in the media as well as in various works of classical and modernized literature. As effectively portrayed in the novel, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, as well as in the film, The Boy in Striped Pyjamas directed by Mark Herman, this self gratifying concept created by society is recurrently illustrated and personified through the events of the holocaust. The basis of this argument is engendered by the belief that relationships amatory or platonic are radically based off the findings of common interests, more specifically those developed between the protagonist and supporting characters of each given story. This concept of empathy, although perceived in leading roles, is a non existent trait among humans that is recreated purely in the interest of convenience further demonstrating its delusory nature. Through friendships formed by elements of relatability, the struggle some attempts at being sympathetically rounded, and prompted acts of benevolence that work in the favour of self image, this quality of empathy as argued inherent in humans is proven to be nothing more than an inventive trait idealized in fictitious characters. ...
