Light And Darkness In Macbeth Essay
Throughout the play of Macbeth, the aura of darkness and horror is often presented to the audience in
order to give the atmosphere within the play a dark and tragic tone. In the play, the nature of evil was
the theme used by the Shakespeare in Macbeth. He used certain action filled images to introduce
deception and horror throughout the play. The characters in Macbeth often brought about the images
of blood, darkness, and evil. Many scenes in the play gave the audience hints of occurring
supernatural events, which in the end would lead to the fall of many, like Macbeth, who was nothing
more than a man full of ambitions that showed no respect for the lives of others. Shakespeare s uses
the images of darkness, blood, and the supernatural to convey the nature of evil. When the play began,

A scene where blood is seen for the first time is when Macbeth returns with daggers covered with
Duncan s blood. Another scene where blood is seen in the play is where Macbeth hallucinates seeing a
bloody dagger that reminded him of Duncan s murder. Lady Macbeth also has a frightening encounter
with blood during the movie. She has an encounter with a sink pouring out blood while she is
sleepwalking. Lady Macbeth s horrific experience proves that the image of blood is a great example of
making the theme nature of evil true throughout the entire play. Another dominant image in Macbeth
is supernatural elements used to give the play a haunting and dark atmosphere affect to go along with
the theme of Shakespeare. The witches in the play are considered a supernatural element. In the play,
one of the witches shows her supernatural power when she speaks of about controlling the weather to
kill for revenge. The witches also show supernatural powers when they reveal a prophecy to Macbeth
and Banquo. A third supernatural example, in the movie is when Banquo s ghost is seen at the dinner
table by

The Importance of Documenting Patient Status and Care
Documentation of patient status and care is important for a variety of reasons. First, it allows health
care professionals to plan and evaluate treatment. Health care records are also used as a
communication tool by multidisciplinary teams. Documentation is also used as evidence in legal
matters, and for reimbursements. Health care agenizes also use electronic health record data to study
and improve future care. Because there are so many things that health records are used for there are
important things you should be sure to include. When documenting the most crucial parts is
documenting interventions and the patients reactions to chosen interventions. If there are any
significant events or changes in the patient or the plan it must be documented. Always be sure to
document if and when informed consent for procedures and actions is needed. If the patient refuses
treatment or leaves against medical advice be sure to document. Medications are always documented
along with any occurrences such as medication errors or falls. Most importantly always include the
date and time on all of the notes. With all this information that should be included in documentation it
is helpful to sort it into subjective and objective data. Objective data is going to be something that is
gathered through physical assessment or from lab and diagnostic tests. Most objective data can be
measured such as vital signs. Subjective data is information given to the nurse by the patient or a

Argumentative Essay On The Gay Rights Movement
The gay rights movement is not a party. It is not a lifestyle... It is not about sin or salvation. The gay
rights movement is an integral part of the American promise of freedom (Urvashi Vaid). Many people
were not supportive of the minority of people coming out to the world and becoming a part of the
LGBTQ+ community. The actions of the many who did not accept the idea of being gay, lesbian or
transgender, would interfere with their confidence and freedom of being who they want to be. The
idea of gay rights was not socially accepted since it had differed from the social norm of a male and
female sexually attracted to one another. However, there would be a safe haven in most cities for the
LGBTQ+ community to thrive and reveal themselves towards the people that truly accepted them for
who they are. Although there were very few safe havens around, these places would be tormented by
the police and many of the people in them would become oppressed since they wanted to be in a place
of acceptance. From June 28, 1969 through July 1, 1969, the gay community faced massive
oppression from police raids in Greenwich Village, NYC at Stonewall Inn, which caused them to start
a riot which ignited a major conflict for the sake of their own safety and freedom. This riot allowed
them to show their oppressors that they are human as well and are able to fight back for themselves
and for the future generations ahead of them. Due to the lack of a formal compromise between the gay
community and the police, many people questioned as well as oppressed them because of certain
religious aspects and social norms, but the conflict resulted in the development of the Gay Liberation
Front and allowing the LGBTQ+ community to freely express themselves. Within many religions,
especially in Christianity, it is said that same sex relations are a sin. Since most of the Americans
around this time were Christian, many of them believed that the relations between a girl and a girl or a
guy and guy were so foreign due to the belief that God created men and women so that only these
genders could be together. Organizations were made to stop the gay community from flourishing.
They also made many feel like there was something wrong

Comparing Slaughterhouse-Five And The Things They Carried

Fragments of Destructions That Causes War Violence can only be concealed by a lie, and the lie can
only be maintained by violence. As said by the russian activist Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, showing that
violence feeds into lies and vice versa. Meaning that they don t help solve issues such as war, but
rather feed them. The war based novels Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut and The Things They
Carried by Tim O Brien both authors portrays unique styles to develop similar and different themes of
war through protest, society, and humanity. In the novel, Slaughterhouse Five, the main character Billy

Tim O Brien discusses the literal Things They Carried and also the heartache and internal things that
men had to experience and go through during the war. The novel focuses on chaos and the trauma, and
by reproducing these realities in a fragmented, chaotic narrative. Tim O Brien demonstrates tragedy of
war and death. In one of the short stories Notes it states, By telling stories, you objectify your own
experience. You separate it from yourself. You pin down certain truths. You make up others. You start
sometimes with an incident that truly happened, like the night in the shit field, and you carry it
forward by inventing incidents that did not in fact occur but that nonetheless help to clarify and
explain. (152) This shows the guilt about Kiowa s death and the feelings after the war by telling a
story, it shows how he carries these on and are a burden on his mind. Also shows the corruption in one
s mind during war by showing how soldiers start to believe false events and shift the truth. Therefore
the novel The Things They Carried is form of protest against

Extended Goal Statement I sat in my child development class in a brick and mortar classroom setting.
What was I doing there? I was extremely interested in what the professor was speaking on and what

What Role Did Women Play In The Civil War
Throughout the history of the United States, women have played vital roles in war efforts. This holds
especially true in wars such as the Civil War, World War I, and World War II. Women played vital
roles up front in the field, and as well as behind enemy lines. No matter what role these women took
on, their lives and those after were forever impacted. During the Civil War, women abolitionists made
their voices heard over the issues of slavery. One woman in particular Harriet Beecher Stow wrote her
story Uncle Tom s Cabin which elaborated what runaway slaves would be facing with the Fugitive
Slave Law. This was also the time that a former runaway slave Harriet Jacobs told her story in
Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl. Women also became ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

became active supporters in the war. Marches led by women and women s organizations helped raise
money for wartime Liberty Bonds (Dubois and Dumenil, 435). Many women rationed supplies and

Gender Roles And Roles Of Women s Career Advancement
According to Feistritzer s research (as cited in Bynum, 2015), there has been a disproportionate
representation of women in education at the highest positions of education leadership , especially in
comparison to the number who begin their careers as teachers. Although the number of women in
management and administrative positions has increased, the majority of senior positions are still held
by men. The lack of women role models in academic departments and barriers women face in
acquiring leadership roles can be contributed to male oriented organizational expectations. Research
has shown that mentoring can significantly enhance the salary and promotion possibilities for women
experiencing these types of situations. In academia, mentoring awareness can reduce barriers to
women s career advancement, tenure and pay (Cullen Luna, 1993). Reddick (as cited in Gamble
Turner, 2015) believes that the efforts diversifying and including women in the ranks of tenured
faculty positions have not made much process towards fulfillment. Women must seek mentorship
early in their careers; have diversity among their mentors; and share experiences with other female
faculty. As an African American female at a Historical Black University (HBCU), the importance of
acquiring mentorship to become successful in the academia arena is tantamount. As a junior faculty,
there was constant reminders of faculty being dismissed from the university because they were not
granted tenure, in addition to

The, Political, And Economic Recession
Raging wars, political disputes, and economic recession are several of the many things that has been
troubling the people of the world since 1939. Ever since from then, countless lives had to be spare for
the life we own today. Nonetheless, migration of these people was inevitable; they needed to look for
a place to stay, to be safe, and to be able to survive for their children s sake and for themselves. In
recent 20 years back, the approach of handling these aliens has been acceptable but in some cases
unforgivable due to globalization. The technology growth and the advancement of communication
options has made traveling a more pleasant thing rather than an obstacle. Some were probably believe
that they would have a better chance in other places as their own does not show a promising future for
them to survive. Nevertheless, although efforts were made, there are still some that does not abide to
the motion; to provide help to those who are in need; they choose to become preserved prompting the
question, why? Helping people is a nature that we human have carried for many generations; it s a fact
but, can we provide the proper necessity to actually be a help towards them? Who is to blame here?
Should all the countries join forces to help the migrants and refugees, regardless of their origin? The

Older Adults Vital Signs
Vital signs are great indicators to show any abnormalities of a patients health. A nurse assessing older
adult patients need to think about the variations that come with aging; such as bones becoming more

to pump blood as efferent as before (Jensen, 2015). Many challenges can arise when trying to obtain

that we had to do a book report I immediately froze up because I hate reading books. I prejudged
Between The World And Me before I even opened the book. I inferred that it would be a very boring
just by looking at the cover over the book, looks can be deceiving. Ta Nehisi had three goals when he
decided to write this book. He explained that the first goal was personal, he wanted his son to
understand that this is White America. He wanted the world to intellectually and emotionally process
Between the World and Me, so that the readers could understand how the world is being portrayed
from a black man s point of view. Coates wanted white Christians to be interested and curious about
his book, which became another goal for him to write this book. Those white Christians that believed
racism had completely been deceased. Lastly, he wanted the world to explore theological connections

The results of the focused interview revealed that the major stress related factors in the ICUs pointed
to: shortages of knowledgeable nurses, absenteeism, doctors demands, and lack of support from
management as well as colleagues, and the stress caused by temporary nurses acquired from the
agencies. Recommendations were made towards nursing unit management, further nursing research,
and nursing education. The limitations to this study are that the female participants are in the majority
compared to the male participants and the sample size was rather limited in number, which limits the
potential to generalize the results of this research. Ounder Basim surveyed 248 nurses from five
hospitals in turkey in 2007 to identify the occupational burnout profiles of a sample of nurses, and to
examine alternative developmental models based on these profiles. The Maslach Burnout Inventory

emotional exhaustion or depersonalization is not always associated with lower accomplishment. It was
concluded that hospital managers should be watchful for emotional exhaustion rather than

the mental triggers that lead to suicide, and can manipulate certain lifestyles to see if it will result into

that this person is some sort of mental pain. In this article, it was found that stress and anxiety had lead

handled with care, but the body is dragged away without care. This shows how americans value guns
more than human lives. During the whole video you see him dancing with a group of kids, they follow
his every move. The dancing distracts you from all of the chaos in the background. This could be a
symbolism by the youth not being involved with the news and just going on with their lives like its
nothing major. Half way through the video there is a church choir happily singing and then Childish
Gambino comes in starts dancing and smiling then seconds later he shoots them all up with an AK47.
This represents the Charleston church massive shooting. Toward the end of the video you see Childish

An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge Summary
Piecing Together the Creation of An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge
Literature is often impacted by the experiences the author has had and the time period in which it was
written. The Civil War era affected works that were created during that time. The story An Occurrence
at Owl Creek Bridge by Ambrose Bierce exhibits this influence as it is written with the aid of the
experiences he had during the war when he was enlisted. Although some claim certain events in
Bierce s life never affected him, others suggest that Bierce may have incorporated them into his
writings. The story An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge was greatly influenced by Bierce s
experiences as a soldier, the extensive knowledge of the Civil War he gathered, and the time period in
which he lived through. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Northern American states were conflicted by Southern American states over the concept of slavery.
The North was industrialized, using machinery to rapidly produce products at a cheaper price.
Factories decreased the need for slavery, as machines could work at a more effective rate. Thus the
northern economy of America was generally based on manufacturing. In the Southern states plantation
farming was still in favor as opposed to large industrialized factories, influencing the use of slavery.
People were needed to work the fields so slavery still remained very popular in the South, even as the
concept of slavery was diminishing in the North. As the United States was expanding, the North was
pushing laws to make slave owning illegal, but the South argued that such an act was unconstitutional
( Civil War Era ). This disagreement between slavery was the spark of the Civil War. America split

The Rules of Islamic Laws Essay
There are certain Rules Which Create Prohibition, Approvals or Disapprovals in Islam. We Will see in

been given in form of Wajib Makrooh Mustahaab Haram Mandub and etc. We Will try to differentiate
them from each other by the views of Classical Jurists. These rules are there to control the life style of

Wajib is defined by the jurists as a thing which has been proved by an allegorical evidence and it s
status will be equal to that of Fard .However the Hanfi Consider Fard a thing without which one may

Hukm will cause an obligation or that how a demand will be seen as categorical. The First view is that
if the demand is w.r.t to Amar, Hukum and that if the language constitutes an Amar or an imperative
sense it constitutes and Obligation. Whereas Immam Ghalzi puts forwards his own view stating that if
the demand is followed by a punishment will be known as categorical demand and it will create an
Obligation. Now Demands are of 2 types One tell us to do something and the second one tells us to
abstain from something. Things to be done are Obligation which has already been discussed. Whereas
the things which are not to be Done are Known as Prohibited or Haram in Arabic. In its Book Weiss
says that it is the nature of law that prescribes an obligation or permitted.
Haram is when the demand is made for omitting of acts and is expressed in binding terms . Examples
can be seen in the cases of Adultery, Riba, Intoxication and Etc. Even Marriages with the women of
Hurmat have been declared Haram and all of the relations in that category have been clearly told by

One of the complications of an acute MI is Left Ventricular Aneurysm (LVA) which is a localized area
of myocardium with abnormal outward bulging and deformation during systole and diastole. The
epidemiology occurs in 10 30% of patients after an acute MI (American Heart Association 2015). The
risk factors include total occlusion of the LAD artery, females and an anterior MI. To prevent this,
early revascularization is needed. The LVAs usually range from 1 8 cm.
Pericarditis is another complication of acute MI. The incidence of early pericarditis after a MI is about
10% (American Heart Association 2015). This is caused by the inflammation of pericardial tissue
which overlies infarcted myocardium. Clinically a patient can present with severe pleuritic chest pain
and pericardial friction rub. Pericarditis usually develops between 24 and 96 hours after an acute MI.
The treatment of this complication is with anti inflammatory drugs and analgesia (American Heart

An Essay About My Birthday
I was born on the thirteenth of May, 2000 at 3:33 a.m. The same day, people were celebrating their
own birthdays. On May 13, 2000, many people had to mourn over the deaths of their loved ones.
When people are children, they never quite realize that anything other than their birth happened on
their birthday. Now that I am becoming a young woman, it is past time to find out what else happened
that day through my own research. I had to ask my parents what they remembered about my birthday
first. They are, of course, a reliable source of information as to what happened within my own family
during the week of my birth. They did forget a lot of details other than my birth, so what they
recounted was essentially that my mother just had to stay in the hospital a while longer, since it was
her first birth. I also decided that knowing the origins of my name was important too. My first name is
Carrie, after my great great grandmother. It is American in origin, coming from Caroline, for which
Carrie became a shorter version or a pet name (Carrie). My last name is Brake, originating from
Germany. Through research on ancestry.com, I found that my ancestors likely lived near a clearing
and were called Brak, which (in Middle Low German) means clearing or coppice. (Brake)
Historically, my birthday is also significant. In 1939, Mussolini and Hitler were touring the border of
France with their forces in order to pressure France to willingly give up some land; Mussolini was

When looking at all three plots, the trend for all three properties is to increase as carbon number
increases. This supports the information available about melting and boiling point. The melting point
and boiling point are the temperatures at which the molecules have enough energy to overcome the
intermolecular forces holding them together4. Melting point is the temperature at which a group of
molecules changes from solid to liquid, and boiling point is the temperature at which a group of
molecules changes from liquid to gas. Enthalpy of vaporization is the heat that is required for a
substance to go change from a liquid to a gas.5 Melting point, boiling point, and enthalpy of

For these series both interpolation and extrapolation could be used with some accuracy. For alcohols,
boiling point has a near linear relationship with carbon number, and both interpolation and
extrapolation could be used. The enthalpy of vaporization for alcohols does not have a direct
relationship with carbon number, and should not be interpolated or extrapolated. Melting point for all
three series does not seem to follow any trend except for a general trend of increasing as carbon
number increases. Melting point seems to decrease for alkanes with odd numbers of carbons, and
increase with even numbers of carbons8. This is most noticeable between carbons 2 and 4 of the 1
monochloroalkanes and 1 monofluoroalkanes. The reason for this drop between even and odd
numbered carbon chains is believed to be a result of the way that these chains form in solids. The even
chained carbons are more stable, and require more energy to become

Developing The Skills For Treating Mental Health Of Others...
Developing the skills to treat mental health of others is exponentially more difficult without the
support from a strong training about a human s physical health. As one substrate binds to an enzyme a
cog turns causing a chain reaction to the whole body, but the body is more than just a machine; it has a
soul that encompasses emotions and thoughts. Immersed in my biochemistry textbook, I looked for
the bridge between the text and my own body. My curiosity sky rocketed; my mind is set on
expanding and applying my bank of knowledge. Not for a split second would I turn back, this pursuit
embodies my desires. From these pages, I wish to translate this fuel to empower others; for them to go
home from the clinic with security and the highest trust from me. I began my quest for building that
bridge by walking towards the patient s room at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center with Dr. Morkis, a
primary care physician. The worn out look of hopelessness was pasted on each patient s face, no one
wanted to be there. The first patient, Ron, walked in gritting his teeth and his fists clenched. Once
Morkis spoke to Ron, his utter rage shrunk to a mellow rest. My eyes dilated in disbelief as if I had
just witnessed magic. Morkis formed a deep loving connection with speeds I had never seen. My mind
was racing for answers͖ how did she do that? The informal approach in the conversations between
Morkis and her patients showed a great deal of compassion and trust. He shared precious personal

Appointment In Samarra Essay
Julian English, the main character in Appointment in Samarra by John O Hara, was a very heavy
drinker. Drinking is the main reason for Julian s downfall experiences throughout the story. In the
matter of three days, Julian English manages to make enemies with everyone that was once close with
him. Julian English s first fall was giving a reason for Harry Reilly to turn against him, which was
only the start of his downfalls. Eventually, the drinking then led to an end of his marriage with his
wife, Caroline. Not long after, the drinking, unfortunately, was the reason for Julian to commit suicide.
Julian English was married to his beautiful wife, Caroline English. They lived in the town Gibbsville
and regularly attended the club and parties until Julian throws a drink in Harry s Reilly face. Harry
Reilly was a rich, well know man that lent Julian money the summer before. Julian believed that

something that people never thought would occur. Also, the incident between Julian and Helen was

Gibbsville. These two main occurrences could recognize Julian English as a tragic hero.
The novel, Appointment in Samarra, was a series of downfall events Julian English experienced that
were all caused by drinking. Although Julian could be considered a tragic hero, the drinking consumed
his life and thus was the result of his death. Within three days Julian lost his wife, made allies with

Introduction
The Roman Catholic Church is the largest church of all the Christian denominations with over 1.2
billion followers around the world. The Bishop of Rome or in other words, the Pope, is at the forefront
in leading such an expansive religion that extends its influence and borders beyond the Vatican City in
Rome. The Church teaches that they are the one, true church founded by Jesus Christ, claiming their
bishops to be the successors of his apostles, and that the Pope himself as the same with the many prior
popes in history are the successor to Saint Peter whom Jesus gave the Keys of Heaven to be the ...

The euphoria after JFK s victory of Catholic Americans experiencing a positive perspective by the
remainder of the country lasted until the 21st century. The biggest setback the church would face
regarding their public image was about to unfold. The Boston Globe released an article covering five
Roman Catholic priests being prosecuted for child sex abuse. The 2002 article unanimously won a
Pulitzer Prize becoming a national scandal that brought many more people to come forward with their
allegations of abuse. Roman Catholic diocese across the country quickly learned that this wasn t an
isolated issue and began to pay out settlements in the millions towards the vast number of civil
lawsuits. The church asserted remorse for the countless priests at fault, estimating the problem was
amongst no more than one percent of the 410,000 Roman Catholic priests worldwide. Regardless, the
major concern was approximately 80 percent of the cases reported occurred in the United States, while
a report by the John Jay College of Criminal Justice indicated 4 percent of priests who served between
the years 1950 2002 had allegations made against them. Addressing the issue as an internal matter,
matters were taken into the church s hands. Instead of permanently removing priests from their roles,
they were moved from one parish to another, remaining in close contact with children. Psychological
treatment was given to offending priests, while rarely reporting incidents to the police. The church s
defense was priests were allowed to return to duty once psychologists and psychiatrists notified their
bishops of their medical assessment, deeming them fit to return and face reassignment. A panel of
eight non Catholic psychiatric experts concluded at a 2003 Vatican Conference on Sexual Abuse that
the Catholic hierarchy failed to realize the seriousness of the problem, urge to cover up the

The American Culture And Values
Critiquing American Culture and Values: (The Social) Network The emergence of novel forms of
communication in American history tends to produce two contrasting reactions: general acceptance
from society and moral outrage from a limited, vocal portion of the public. As a medium, film was met
in such a fashion with the creation of the Production Code Administration in 1934, designed by
Catholic leaders to uphold their conception of American values. At the same time, the example of
Middletown depicted a rural community incorporating the experience of film into their regular lives,
treating it as entertainment alongside shows at the opera house. Decades later, we see film utilized to
criticize the social impact of emerging communicative methods, including television and social media
in the form of Network (1976) and The Social Network (2010). A method of universal programing, by
which centralized, censored content is broadcast in synchronous to an audience discriminant only by
which of the four major networks they choose to view is the portrayal of television afforded by the
characters aimed to garner the most sympathy in Network. The voices of reason and morality in the
film, older folks seen as untainted by television and corporate greed condemn television for replacing
genuine human interaction with hollow facades of conformity and pre scripted emotions. While
concerns over lacking human connection and false human emotions remain, social media has

Gout And Diet Prevention Study Essay
Recently, a gout and diet prevention study was published in by Dr. Hyon K. Choi and Gary Curhan in
Arthritis Care Research s June 2007 issue which examined the fact that, contrary to popular belief,
coffee may not be as bad for gout sufferers as previously thought. Although gout patients have been
told to stay away from coffee, there may be an ingredient in the beverage that can actually help to
lower the uric acid levels in the body.
Though it is not yet known what part of coffee is responsible for lowering the uric acid levels in the
body, it is known that it is not just the caffeine content, as the same results were not found from
drinking caffeinated tea. Whatever the cause, when participants drank one to two cups of coffee every
day, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar, though not equal, results were witnessed. This is why it is now thought that components of
coffee other than soley caffeine are responsible for lowering the uric acid levels in the body.
Considering that until this study, gout sufferers had been discouraged from drinking coffee, many gout
sufferers may now be wondering what other gout and diet prevention beliefs may soon turn out to be
disproved. For example, though tea has not been found to reduce uric acid levels in the body as has
now been demonstrated with coffee, tea is often thought to be unacceptable as a part of a gout and diet
prevention strategy. Instead, tea can indeed be a part of a gout diet as long as it is consumed in
moderation and as long as its dehydrating effect is compensated for by taking in additional water.
It was also believed at one time that eating rich foods was the root cause of gout. Indeed, some rich
foods are high in proteins and purines and therefore may contribute to gout flare ups, however low fat
dairy products have now been shown to have a preventative effect. Also Gout is believed to be caused
by many factors, including being

The Cruelty Of Masters Toward Slaves
The Cruelty of Masters toward Slaves During the nineteenth century, masters would mistreat their
slaves. Some examples of this misconduct would be whippings, a lack of food, a lack of clothing, and
malicious language directed at the slave. The injuries that the slaves would receive could never heal
because before the wounds could heal, they would be beaten again. Frederick Douglass, a slave during
the 1800s, in his autobiography, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass: An American Slave, he
strives to persuade Americans to realize that slaves were treated brutally by their masters no matter if
their masters were male or female, rich or poor, or religious or nonreligious. Slaveholders, masters,
and overseers, both male and female, acted savagely toward their slaves. Frederick Douglass
(1845/1995) in his autobiography Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, writes about when the
overseer Mr. Gore shot a slave named Demby because Demby was trying to relieve some of the pain
in his back from receiving a scourging by jumping into a creek (p. 14). No compassion is shown to the
slaves by Mr. Gore. Douglass (1845/1995) tells of two females who also treated slaves brutally. Mrs.
Hamilton hardly ever let an hour go by when her two slave girls, Henrietta and Mary, were not
whipped (p. 21). The perpetual whippings caused constant festering sores on the girls head, neck, and
shoulders (p. 21). In addition to the oppression the girls under Mrs. Hamilton s care faced, they

American Principles Of Liberty And Self Government
Foner describes 1848 as the spring time of nations, a time of democratic uprisings against the
monarchies of Europe and demands of ethnic minorities for national independence. American
principles of liberty and self government appeared to be triumphing in the Old World (Foner 380).
Many reforms began to take place after the successfully removing slavery from the North, one of
which was in the education system. Representatives began asking for subscriptions to the railroad
from the citizens in Connecticut. Although the railroad would advance trading, shipping, and traveling
tremendously, that did not come with many safety and operating complications. As the North was

reform was necessary, but this reform did not come until later in the 1870s. Another railroad concern
was selling subscriptions. An article in this paper, titled Morning News Spotlight: Our Railroad , was

Situation Analysis
Due to Swan s medical situation, there are three critical activities that must be managed effectively in
her absence: increasing advertising sales, increasing affiliate sales, and the executing the Brazil
specific feed. Advertising sales was a key concern for NLA. They had missed their goal by 11% last
year. Though the overall bottom line goal was met, this lack of revenues did not make for a
sustainable business model. In addition, the Latin American economy was very rocky, and Brazil was
undergoing a currency devaluation. In order for the company to continue on its path to success, the
sales team was going to need to land more advertising accounts, and take advantage of the upcoming
World Cup to drive much needed revenues. Increasing affiliate sales was also key. In particular, the
deals with Cablevision/TCI in Argentina and Telemundo in the United States were very important.
These deals would expand the viewership by 1.5 million people in Latin America and millions more in
the United States. In turn, this increased viewership would help increase advertising sales, and would
also strengthen NLA s foothold within the region. It was also help to show the corporation that the
NLA project was succeeding. This could lead to a larger budget and more dedicated resources from
the corporation. Finally,

George Stein s Role At Eastern Diary Essay
George Stein grew up in the suburbs of a major East Coast city. Inevitably, every summer between
school semesters George likes to work so he can continue he interest saturated lifestyle which includes

Paul by the day shift s superintendent. One night in particular, George found the ice cream production
line halted by maggots clogging up the piping. On an occasion in certain bags of ingredients, likely
those of which were left and forgotten, maggots would get in. In order to save the company money,

Essay On Late Modernism
Late Modernism Reborn? In our world of ideas, different philosophical movements emerge from time
to time and some of these movements completely alter the entire society and the way we interact with
our environment. One such philosophical movement, modernism, virtually revolutionized both our
society and culture, and also the graphic design world. With the emergence of the
Swiss Style, our typographic understanding changed from subjective to objective. Clean, sans serif
typefaces replaced the earlier, more personal and complicated typefaces. Strict, structured design was
achieved with the use of grid systems. After a period of simple and clean graphic design, post
modernism emerged and rejected the concepts of late modernism. They adopted ... Show more content

While this overly simplified system was adopted by so many in so little time as a result of this very
simplicity, it does not reflect the true idea behind late modernism; because late modernism does not
intend to take the designer out of the equation, it wants to alter the world around us and humanize our
surroundings. First of all, late modernism does not support the idea of making the designer irrelevant
to the design work. When it emerged, Swiss Style supported using simple typefaces, sans serif and
making clean, but powerful designs. You may notice most designer using simple fonts such as
Helvetica while designing logos, roadside signs or posters. They use the
Helvetica font, but it is not because they want to make their designs more boring or non artistic. The
use of such a simple font is for one purpose only, to make their designs more objective and less
suggestive in a sense. Use of elaborate and overly decorated fonts can lead to the over personalization
of typography. While the idea of using a strict set of typefaces could seem extremely restrictive on the
graphic designer, it is nonetheless necessary. As the Experimental Jetset suggests, in

Roman Twelve Tables
The Roman republic had set a specific set of laws that each person was suppose to abide by. These set
of laws were known as the Twelve Tables. After reading the selections from the Twelve Tables, I
gather that the Roman society was very strict and harsh, and its conception of justice was more based
on punishment than it was on negotiating the situation and coming to a clear resolution. The Romans
were more blunt with their punishments, they saw black and white , no grey area when making
decisions in court, which means that everything was a yes or no, no one person had the opportunity to
talk about any of their crimes, it was straight to punishment, or if they were found to be not guilty then
they were not punished. In Table IV : Rights of Head of Family, it expresses just how cruel they were,
Quickly kill... a dreadfully deformed child (Spielvogel p. 116). In my opinion, this law is wicked
because no one should be killed just because of the way that they look, especially if they were born
that way and can not help it. Before the Twelve Tables, there were major problems and struggles. Both
of the groups, patricians and plebeians, were able to vote, but only the patricians were granted the
right to be elected to government positions. They were both able to make legal agreements and have
marriages, but it was forbidden for a patrician and a plebeian to intermarry. There was conflict amongst

Not Protecting the Right of Homosexual Marriage Endangers the Rights of Others
Civil marriage is enjoyed by all people in society; all people that is, excluding the ones that find love
in the form of their own gender. These people are being denied the basic right of engaging in legally
bound matrimony. Laws, such as this one, have been created time and time again, mostly by ignorant
bigots, only to be dissolved when finally seen as immoral and unjust in the eyes of someone without
hatred in their heart. It should be considered a crime in itself to deny access to an institution that has
no one true concrete definition; but instead much diversity, which America has depended on and built

#8230;nothing is unclean in itself; but unclean for anyone who thinks it unclean (Romans 14:13 13).
Also, when Americans were told that they would have freedom of religion, does not that sanctify
freedom from religion as well? People wanting to engage in same sex marriage are not asking for all
religions to accept their vows. They ask merely for tolerance and the ability to recite them so that they
mean something, legally. They ask for simple civil equality in the pursuit of happiness (Jefferson 200)
among themselves, the United States citizens.
A dispute that frequently appears in court over same sex marriage is the question of what marriage is
in it s self. Marriages exist in many forms that cannot fit into a universal mold. There are relationships
consisting of one man and numerous women called polygamy. Relationships with one woman and

Caste System In The Medieval Era
Born into Hope How would it feel to be nothing? How would it be to be born without hope? This is
something that is often true about the Medieval Period, this is a time without social privileges unless
you were born into wealth. Even if many were not born into wealth there are select few that have the
advantage to be a nobleman, kings, queens, and church people. The people right under the king are the
nobles. The nobles are born into their place in society which guarantees them wealth, privilege, and
powerful family. During the times of the medieval era there was a form of government set up that was
similar to a caste system. (thefindertimes.com) To define a caste system, it is a class structure
determined by birth. If your family is poor then you will be poor, also the same about rich families.
During medieval times a hierarchy existed, a pyramid of sorts with royalty at the top and peasants,
comprising the bulk of the population, at the bottom. (thefindertimes.com). This is a recognition of a
caste system. The part that is different from a caste system is the possibility to change your own fate.
This could be done through loyalty or hard work. Even if thought impossible it would not be easy. But
if granted land by the king for service then your family to come will also be wealthy. The riches and

However, in the Naked Lunch drug addiction is presented as a disease, it destroys the souls of users
and leave them as ghosts. They have no family, no friends, no jobs, and are only occupied and
obsessed by their needs of heroin. I am a ghost wanting what every ghost wants a body after the Long
Time moving through odorless alleys of space where no life is only the colorless no smell of
death....Nobody can breathe and smell it through pink convolutions of gristle laced with crystal snot,
time shit and black blood filters of flesh (Charters 131). In Naked Lunch he was exploring both the
physical and emotional change that happen to addicts. How weak their bodies become, and they turn
against each other because of drugs. Moreover, it seems like he hates the addicts and their empty lives.
While in his previous books he loved the excitement that came with using drugs. He didn t insults the

Nelson Mandela s Quest For Freedom
Nelson Mandela was a South African anti apartheid revolutionary, who fought long and hard for the
freedom of his people. Freedom is seen as a holy grail, a way out of troubles for many people.
Mandela made sure he and his people were able to get away from the discrimination and violence they
experienced. The movie Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom shows exactly what he had to go through to
reach freedom. Mandela s quest for freedom can be seen as similar to that of Jimmy Baca s. Both
these men were convicted and put in jail for ridiculous accusations. Also both Baca and Mandela used
their knowledge to find ways to better themselves and ultimately helped them survive and get out of
jail. Baca steers away from the darkness that surrounds him by ... Show more content on

During Mandela s time the Black people in South Africa were being treated in much the same way as
they are today. In the essay My Views in the Eyes of the Stranger the author quotes that My life means
nothing to the white people she continues to say, they call it punishment, I call it torment (My Views
in the Eyes of a Stranger). With these quotes she perfectly sums up the discrimination they go through.
Mandela was perfectly aware of this. In the movie it is shown that Mandela conducts rallies and
protests, involving the public into his fight for freedom. The movie shows him getting angry, and
getting the public angry; educating them on what was really happening to them. Just like Mandela the
author of the essay dreams that we live in a society that did not have racism and every person was
given the same respect and chance to be successful (My Views in the Eyes of a Stranger). Even fifty
years before today Mandela was wishing for the same thing, which empowered him to fight for
change, for freedom. In the movie the black community of South Africa is shown being beat and
murdered for even the simplest of things, such as assembling together. They were not given equal
opportunities as the white people, they were forced into poverty, and they were wrongly accused and
jailed. This was a driving force to Mandela that fueled his quest for

Chapter 18 The Power Trios
Chapter 18 was engaging to read and discuss in class. Throughout the chapter, we were give a detailed
description of two concepts that came to life during the 1960s and further on. One of these concepts
was, The Power Trios which displayed the musical capacities of many guitarists. Most of them were
given double duties by playing both the rhythm and lead roles. Just like any other genre of rock and
roll the influence of the power trio came from Chicago blue bands and specifically from the Muddy
Waters trio. The second concept we talked about was Heavy Metal. This style of music is strongly
supported by drum and bass rhythms, which were developed in Britain. This genre of music was
highly criticized by social media due to the negative attention

Risk Of Confidentiality In Healthcare
Healthcare has become more accessible as mobile technology becomes more powerful and reliable.
Accessing your healthcare information is as easy as ordering a pizza. More and more health care
professionals are using laptops, smartphones, Wi Fi networks, and tablets to provide resources to the
community. This is why patient confidentiality has become a priority when using these mediums of
communication. There are some precautions that we can take away to prevent data breach. The risk of

Negative Impact Of Tourism
It would seem that the best way to learn about a cultural would be to travel there yourself. According
to U.S. Travel Assoiation (2017), Americans took 2.2 billion trips for business or leisure purposes in
2016. When people travel to a certain place, they will usually research the destination before to get an
idea of what to expect what they get there. Destinations now have to be smart in how they showcase
their attractions in order to bring tourist in since there is a growth in competition due to the advancing
technology; allowing for people to travel quickly and easily. For many developing nations, having
tourism is the best way and maybe the only way for the nation to get income. However, there are
negative impacts that tourism can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These funeral ceremonies, called Rambu Soloq, are extraordinarily important to them and work
extremely hard to save up money to hold the ceremony. It this society, the family s status is base on
how well done the ceremony is done, which means they are often held weeks, months, or even years
after the death of a person. They will only hold the ceremony once enough money has been raised, so
many families hold off other occasions like marriage in order to conduct the funeral. The funeral
ceremonies are held across several days and include many different parts, including the slaughter of
buffaloes and pigs; the part that funeral visitors usually come to attend (ancient origins,2017). Due to
the unique and complex ceremonies, Tana Toraja is now the second most popular destination for
tourist in Indonesia after Bali (ancient origins, 2017). It is true that the increase in visitors has boost
the local economy, however many loses have occurred in other areas. Toraja is a recent tourist
development as President Suharto began in late 1960s, to encourage the development of the
Indonesian tourism industry (Adams, 1997) and by 1994 over 258,000 tourists came to the region
annually. With such a huge crowd visiting a small region, locals have been influence greatly by the
outsiders and have caused a change in the social organization. Some locals have intently kept their

Effects Of Adoption
Life Changing Effects of Adoption
What if every child had a home and was part of a loving family? This occurrence is unlikely because
of the constant debate of whether or not adoption is a beneficial option. Some believe that adoption is
more of curse than a blessing. They believe adoption can cause problems for the child by being raised
in a culture unlike their own. On the other hand, adoption can help the child to be open to the diversity
of the world and to be respectful, loving, and compassionate towards those who are different from
them. The effects of adoption on the adopted child is quite positive in most cases. Being adopted by a
loving family, affects the child by giving them a hope for their future, a firm foundation to stand on, ...

Once the child has left for college or even their career path, they receive the blessing of knowing their
family will always be there for them. The family may not have been able to be there for the child
earlier in his or her life but they will make up for it. They will be there for their child for the rest of his
or her life. There is truly nothing like he or she having the ability to call their parents when life is a lot
harder than it seems.
Ultimately, adoption s effects on those who get adopted is all together quite positive. The world may
never see the positive effects and outcomes of adoption but there are some whose lives will forever be
changed by it. How crazy is it to think so many incredible effects come out of just one daunting and
joy filled task? Adoption may be a long process but so was the process of each child moving from
home to home. In the end, adoption leaves an incredible impact not only on the children getting
adopted but those who are a part of this

Compassion In The Man At The River By Dave Eggers
The textbook definition of compassion is, the sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or
misfortunes of others. (google) However, the word compassion can be described in a variety of
different ways. Many authors thread the concept of compassion throughout their stories. It builds the
story line and develops characters. In The Man at the River, by Dave Eggers, it can be argued that the
American man s Sudanese friends were not being compassionate. In the story, a Sudanese man wanted
his American friend to cross the river with him. But the American man had a deep cut on his leg that
would have come in contact with the river water. The Sudanese friend tried to coax him across the
river, but the American man refused. He did not know

Art Final Paper 201
Art 201 Professor Wilson May 6th 2012
Final Paper Comparison between two works of art
Pompeo Girolamo Batoni Diana and Cupid 1761 and Corrado Giaquinto The Lamentation 1740 s
Neoclassical Art was an art form that followed the Baroque and Rococo art periods. Neoclassicism
was a way for artists to display their wish to return to meaningful art, to escape the frivolity of
landscapes and still life paintings, and paint something that had a moral, educational or inspirational
value to the viewer. Neoclassical art was an attempt to return knowledge and purity back to art.
Neoclassicism was mainly focused on Greek and Roman arts and stories of the classical era with some
new advancement. It was a revival of antiquity. In Pompeo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In each of these works you can clearly see a loving gaze between subjects. In Diana and Cupid, Diana
is gazing so lovingly and playfully at Cupid, while Cupid is staring at his bow his hand is placed upon
her leg for support while reaching for it. In The Lamentation, only an angel is touching the body of
Jesus, holding his hand, but the other main figure in the painting has her hands clasped together and is
gazing at Jesus in a loving yet mournful way. The use of color in the paintings can easily be compared
and contrasted. Both works are fairly repetitive in their color use, and the colors chosen are clear
indicators for where the artist wants the viewer to look. For example in Diana and Cupid her clothing
is a bright vibrant red, and while there are many other beautiful colors throughout the painting none
are quite as vibrant as the red used. This clearly shows that the human figure is the main subject of the
art. In The Lamentation the use of color is a little different, it would seem that the artist used color on
all of the other subjects except for Jesus naked body which in turn I believe makes Jesus stand out
from the picture, because there is color used everywhere but on Jesus you focus in on him while all of
the other subjects are kind of blending together. In each of the paintings the artist also uses the
shadowing technique. The use of light and dark is captivating in The Lamentation; a lot of it has to

  • 2. Light And Darkness In Macbeth Essay Throughout the play of Macbeth, the aura of darkness and horror is often presented to the audience in order to give the atmosphere within the play a dark and tragic tone. In the play, the nature of evil was the theme used by the Shakespeare in Macbeth. He used certain action filled images to introduce deception and horror throughout the play. The characters in Macbeth often brought about the images of blood, darkness, and evil. Many scenes in the play gave the audience hints of occurring supernatural events, which in the end would lead to the fall of many, like Macbeth, who was nothing more than a man full of ambitions that showed no respect for the lives of others. A scene where blood is seen for the first time is when Macbeth returns with daggers covered with Duncan s blood. Another scene where blood is seen in the play is where Macbeth hallucinates seeing a bloody dagger that reminded him of Duncan s murder. Lady Macbeth also has a frightening encounter with blood during the movie. She has an encounter with a sink pouring out blood while she is sleepwalking. Lady Macbeth s horrific experience proves that the image of blood is a great example of making the theme nature of evil true throughout the entire play. Another dominant image in Macbeth is supernatural elements used to give the play a haunting and dark atmosphere affect to go along with the theme of Shakespeare. The witches in the play are considered a supernatural element. In the play, one of the witches shows her supernatural power when she speaks of about controlling the weather to kill for revenge. • 4. The Importance of Documenting Patient Status and Care Documentation of patient status and care is important for a variety of reasons. First, it allows health care professionals to plan and evaluate treatment. Health care records are also used as a communication tool by multidisciplinary teams. Documentation is also used as evidence in legal matters, and for reimbursements. Health care agenizes also use electronic health record data to study and improve future care. Because there are so many things that health records are used for there are important things you should be sure to include. When documenting the most crucial parts is documenting interventions and the patients reactions to chosen interventions. If there are any significant events or changes in the patient or the plan it must be documented. Always be sure to document if and when informed consent for procedures and actions is needed. If the patient refuses treatment or leaves against medical advice be sure to document. Medications are always documented along with any occurrences such as medication errors or falls. Most importantly always include the date and time on all of the notes. With all this information that should be included in documentation it is helpful to sort it into subjective and objective data. Objective data is going to be something that is gathered through physical assessment or from lab and diagnostic tests. Most objective data can be measured such as vital signs. Subjective data is information given to the nurse by the patient or a family ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Argumentative Essay On The Gay Rights Movement The gay rights movement is not a party. It is not a lifestyle... It is not about sin or salvation. The gay rights movement is an integral part of the American promise of freedom (Urvashi Vaid). Many people were not supportive of the minority of people coming out to the world and becoming a part of the LGBTQ+ community. The actions of the many who did not accept the idea of being gay, lesbian or transgender, would interfere with their confidence and freedom of being who they want to be. The idea of gay rights was not socially accepted since it had differed from the social norm of a male and female sexually attracted to one another. However, there would be a safe haven in most cities for the LGBTQ+ community to thrive and reveal themselves towards the people that truly accepted them for who they are. Although there were very few safe havens around, these places would be tormented by the police and many of the people in them would become oppressed since they wanted to be in a place of acceptance. From June 28, 1969 through July 1, 1969, the gay community faced massive oppression from police raids in Greenwich Village, NYC at Stonewall Inn, which caused them to start a riot which ignited a major conflict for the sake of their own safety and freedom. This riot allowed them to show their oppressors that they are human as well and are able to fight back for themselves and for the future generations ahead of them. Due to the lack of a formal compromise between the gay community and the police, many people questioned as well as oppressed them because of certain religious aspects and social norms, but the conflict resulted in the development of the Gay Liberation Front and allowing the LGBTQ+ community to freely express themselves. Within many religions, especially in Christianity, it is said that same sex relations are a sin. Since most of the Americans around this time were Christian, many of them believed that the relations between a girl and a girl or a guy and guy were so foreign due to the belief that God created men and women so that only these genders could be together. Organizations were made to stop the gay community from flourishing. They also made many feel like there was something wrong ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. What Role Did Women Play In The Civil War Throughout the history of the United States, women have played vital roles in war efforts. This holds especially true in wars such as the Civil War, World War I, and World War II. Women played vital roles up front in the field, and as well as behind enemy lines. No matter what role these women took on, their lives and those after were forever impacted. During the Civil War, women abolitionists made their voices heard over the issues of slavery. • 11. Gender Roles And Roles Of Women s Career Advancement According to Feistritzer s research (as cited in Bynum, 2015), there has been a disproportionate representation of women in education at the highest positions of education leadership , especially in comparison to the number who begin their careers as teachers. Although the number of women in management and administrative positions has increased, the majority of senior positions are still held by men. The lack of women role models in academic departments and barriers women face in acquiring leadership roles can be contributed to male oriented organizational expectations. Research has shown that mentoring can significantly enhance the salary and promotion possibilities for women experiencing these types of situations. In academia, mentoring awareness can reduce barriers to women s career advancement, tenure and pay (Cullen Luna, 1993). Reddick (as cited in Gamble Turner, 2015) believes that the efforts diversifying and including women in the ranks of tenured faculty positions have not made much process towards fulfillment. Women must seek mentorship early in their careers; have diversity among their mentors; and share experiences with other female faculty. As an African American female at a Historical Black University (HBCU), the importance of acquiring mentorship to become successful in the academia arena is tantamount. The First view is that if the demand is w.r.t to Amar, Hukum and that if the language constitutes an Amar or an imperative sense it constitutes and Obligation. Whereas Immam Ghalzi puts forwards his own view stating that if the demand is followed by a punishment will be known as categorical demand and it will create an Obligation. The epidemiology occurs in 10 30% of patients after an acute MI (American Heart Association 2015). The risk factors include total occlusion of the LAD artery, females and an anterior MI. To prevent this, early revascularization is needed. The LVAs usually range from 1 8 cm. Pericarditis is another complication of acute MI. The incidence of early pericarditis after a MI is about 10% (American Heart Association 2015). This is caused by the inflammation of pericardial tissue which overlies infarcted myocardium. Clinically a patient can present with severe pleuritic chest pain and pericardial friction rub. Pericarditis usually develops between 24 and 96 hours after an acute MI. • 23. An Essay About My Birthday I was born on the thirteenth of May, 2000 at 3:33 a.m. The same day, people were celebrating their own birthdays. On May 13, 2000, many people had to mourn over the deaths of their loved ones. When people are children, they never quite realize that anything other than their birth happened on their birthday. Now that I am becoming a young woman, it is past time to find out what else happened that day through my own research. I had to ask my parents what they remembered about my birthday first. They are, of course, a reliable source of information as to what happened within my own family during the week of my birth. They did forget a lot of details other than my birth, so what they recounted was essentially that my mother just had to stay in the hospital a while longer, since it was her first birth. I also decided that knowing the origins of my name was important too. My first name is Carrie, after my great great grandmother. It is American in origin, coming from Caroline, for which Carrie became a shorter version or a pet name (Carrie). My last name is Brake, originating from Germany. Through research on ancestry.com, I found that my ancestors likely lived near a clearing and were called Brak, which (in Middle Low German) means clearing or coppice. Melting point for all three series does not seem to follow any trend except for a general trend of increasing as carbon number increases. This is most noticeable between carbons 2 and 4 of the 1 monochloroalkanes and 1 monofluoroalkanes. Developing the skills to treat mental health of others is exponentially more difficult without the support from a strong training about a human s physical health. As one substrate binds to an enzyme a cog turns causing a chain reaction to the whole body, but the body is more than just a machine; it has a soul that encompasses emotions and thoughts. Immersed in my biochemistry textbook, I looked for the bridge between the text and my own body. My curiosity sky rocketed; my mind is set on expanding and applying my bank of knowledge. Not for a split second would I turn back, this pursuit embodies my desires. From these pages, I wish to translate this fuel to empower others; for them to go home from the clinic with security and the highest trust from me. I began my quest for building that bridge by walking towards the patient s room at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center with Dr. Morkis, a primary care physician. The worn out look of hopelessness was pasted on each patient s face, no one wanted to be there. The first patient, Ron, walked in gritting his teeth and his fists clenched. Once Morkis spoke to Ron, his utter rage shrunk to a mellow rest. My eyes dilated in disbelief as if I had just witnessed magic. Morkis formed a deep loving connection with speeds I had never seen. My mind was racing for answers͖ how did she do that? The informal approach in the conversations between Morkis and her patients showed a great deal of compassion and trust. The American Culture And Values Critiquing American Culture and Values: (The Social) Network The emergence of novel forms of communication in American history tends to produce two contrasting reactions: general acceptance from society and moral outrage from a limited, vocal portion of the public. As a medium, film was met in such a fashion with the creation of the Production Code Administration in 1934, designed by Catholic leaders to uphold their conception of American values. At the same time, the example of Middletown depicted a rural community incorporating the experience of film into their regular lives, treating it as entertainment alongside shows at the opera house. Some examples of this misconduct would be whippings, a lack of food, a lack of clothing, and malicious language directed at the slave. The injuries that the slaves would receive could never heal because before the wounds could heal, they would be beaten again. Frederick Douglass, a slave during the 1800s, in his autobiography, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass: An American Slave, he strives to persuade Americans to realize that slaves were treated brutally by their masters no matter if their masters were male or female, rich or poor, or religious or nonreligious. Slaveholders, masters, and overseers, both male and female, acted savagely toward their slaves. Frederick Douglass (1845/1995) in his autobiography Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, writes about when the overseer Mr. Gore shot a slave named Demby because Demby was trying to relieve some of the pain in his back from receiving a scourging by jumping into a creek (p. 14). No compassion is shown to the slaves by Mr. Gore. Douglass (1845/1995) tells of two females who also treated slaves brutally. Mrs. Hamilton hardly ever let an hour go by when her two slave girls, Henrietta and Mary, were not whipped (p. 21). In our world of ideas, different philosophical movements emerge from time to time and some of these movements completely alter the entire society and the way we interact with our environment. One such philosophical movement, modernism, virtually revolutionized both our society and culture, and also the graphic design world. With the emergence of the Swiss Style, our typographic understanding changed from subjective to objective. Clean, sans serif typefaces replaced the earlier, more personal and complicated typefaces. Strict, structured design was achieved with the use of grid systems. After a period of simple and clean graphic design, post modernism emerged and rejected the concepts of late modernism. While this overly simplified system was adopted by so many in so little time as a result of this very simplicity, it does not reflect the true idea behind late modernism; because late modernism does not intend to take the designer out of the equation, it wants to alter the world around us and humanize our surroundings. First of all, late modernism does not support the idea of making the designer irrelevant to the design work. When it emerged, Swiss Style supported using simple typefaces, sans serif and making clean, but powerful designs. You may notice most designer using simple fonts such as Helvetica while designing logos, roadside signs or posters. They use the Helvetica font, but it is not because they want to make their designs more boring or non artistic. The use of such a simple font is for one purpose only, to make their designs more objective and less suggestive in a sense. After reading the selections from the Twelve Tables, I gather that the Roman society was very strict and harsh, and its conception of justice was more based on punishment than it was on negotiating the situation and coming to a clear resolution. The Romans were more blunt with their punishments, they saw black and white , no grey area when making decisions in court, which means that everything was a yes or no, no one person had the opportunity to talk about any of their crimes, it was straight to punishment, or if they were found to be not guilty then they were not punished. • 40. Drug Addiction In Junky And Naked Lunch The images that Burroughs presented in Junky, and The Yage Letters about drug addiction is totally different from the one he presented in Naked Lunch. In the previous books, Burroughs only showed the good party like side of drug addiction, it made him hallucinates but took away all the worries and fears he had. He traveled to Mexico, Columbia and Morocco because he wanted to freely do heroin and all the drugs he could get. He mentioned casually the side effects of drugs but it was normal for him and he wouldn t stop doing it because of that. In addition, in the other books he was telling the story from the point of view of a rich man who had money to afford the life of a Junky, he could travel, he had a family and even though he killed his wife while under the influence of drugs he didn t blame it on that. ... In the movie the black community of South Africa is shown being beat and murdered for even the simplest of things, such as assembling together. It builds the story line and develops characters. In The Man at the River, by Dave Eggers, it can be argued that the American man s Sudanese friends were not being compassionate. Art Final Paper 201 Art 201 Professor Wilson May 6th 2012 Final Paper Comparison between two works of art Pompeo Girolamo Batoni Diana and Cupid 1761 and Corrado Giaquinto The Lamentation 1740 s Neoclassical Art was an art form that followed the Baroque and Rococo art periods. Neoclassicism was a way for artists to display their wish to return to meaningful art, to escape the frivolity of landscapes and still life paintings, and paint something that had a moral, educational or inspirational value to the viewer. Neoclassical art was an attempt to return knowledge and purity back to art. Neoclassicism was mainly focused on Greek and Roman arts and stories of the classical era with some new advancement. It was a revival of antiquity. In Pompeo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In each of these works you can clearly see a loving gaze between subjects. In Diana and Cupid, Diana is gazing so lovingly and playfully at Cupid, while Cupid is staring at his bow his hand is placed upon her leg for support while reaching for it. In The Lamentation, only an angel is touching the body of Jesus, holding his hand, but the other main figure in the painting has her hands clasped together and is gazing at Jesus in a loving yet mournful way. The use of color in the paintings can easily be compared and contrasted. Both works are fairly repetitive in their color use, and the colors chosen are clear indicators for where the artist wants the viewer to look. For example in Diana and Cupid her clothing is a bright vibrant red, and while there are many other beautiful colors throughout the painting none are quite as vibrant as the red used. This clearly shows that the human figure is the main subject of the art. In The Lamentation the use of color is a little different, it would seem that the artist used color on all of the other subjects except for Jesus naked body which in turn I believe makes Jesus stand out from the picture, because there is color used everywhere but on Jesus you focus in on him while all of the other subjects are kind of blending together. In each of the paintings the artist also uses the shadowing technique. The use of light and dark is captivating in The Lamentation; a lot of it has to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
