Kristallnacht
The Night of Shimmering Glass Kristallnacht, Night of Crystal, was a turning point between Germany
and the rest of the world. On November 9th, 1938, an uprising against the Jewish residents of
Germany and Austria occurred. This attack against the Jewish was referred to as a pogrom.
Kristallnacht was the first marked nationwide action against religion. The Nazi regime and their wish
to implement Nuremberg s laws helped push start the process of degrading Jews to an inferior level in
life by giving reason to start the riot. The accumulation of events and new laws leading to
Kristallnacht forced thousands of Jews to be stuck on the border lines of Poland and Germany, thus
setting the stage for Germany s justification for the genocide yet ... Show more content on

1938 March 31 The Polish Senate passes he Expatriots Law, canceling citizenship for Polish Jews
living outside the country, unless their passports are checked and stamped by Polish consular officials
by the end of October. (7) In other words, if Polish citizens living abroad failed to meet with
appropriate officials, they were no longer welcomed to the country. This conflict of German and
Polish laws left thousands of Polish Jews on the border, between Poland and Germany, in the cold and
with little or no provisions. This deportation also led to the next step accelerating the events of
Kristallnacht. In the crowd of Polish Jews being held at the border, the Grynszpan family acted as the
detonator to Kristallnacht. On November 3rd 1938, Herschel Grynszpan, at the time living in Paris,
received a postcard from his family informing him of their conditions and asking for his help. (8)
Angered and annoyed by the situation and how it was being handled by both the Germans and the
Polish, on November 7th Grynszpan walked into the German Embassy in Paris and fatally wounded a
German official named Ernst vom Rath. On November 8th, following the murder of Ernst vom Rath,
attacks and destructions of Jewish property already had started. Vom Rath s death, declared on
November 9th, gave the Nazi regime a perfect reason to organize a pogrom. On November 9th and
10th, 1938 the Nazi s staged a monstrous anti Jewish

Should Undergraduates Specialize Summary
In Should Undergraduates Specialize? Patrick Allitt contrasts his experience at the University of
Oxford in England with that of his daughter Frances at Emory University in America, questioning the
need for a well rounded college education rather than a highly focused one. Despite his conclusion
that a one size fits all approach does not work in education, his patronizing tone and contradictory
arguments suggest he does believe that; he simply disagrees with the approach America is taking.
Additionally, while basing criticism of higher education in America on one anecdotal account from
another country over thirty years ago has nostalgic value, it does little to promote solutions to
problems he touches on.
One of the biggest flaws in Allitt s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his introductory anecdote, the author notes that his parents paid roughly $400 for his entire three
years at Oxford. On the other hand, a student at Emory, where he has taught since 1988, can expect to
pay over $150,000. Clearly, inflation is a factor; however, today, that $400 would be equivalent to a
few thousand dollars, far outside the six digit tuition students like his daughter face. For this reason,
his argument for streamlined education that focuses on the field the student wants to pursue makes
sense. If tailored education could lower the cost and amount of time an individual spends pursuing his
degree, college would be attainable for a larger number of people. Unfortunately, many young adults
do not enter college with a single career pinpointed. The well rounded approach may be wasteful for
the student who knows she wants to work in the culinary arts, whereas a variety of classes may help
the undecided student find direction. While Allitt does acknowledge that possibility, he does not offer
any suggestions to counter it. When the majority of American graduates leave school facing $30,000
in debt, certainty that they pursued the right career is

George Bernard Shaw Mistakes
George Bernard Shaw suggests that mistakes are a part of life they better you and allow you to learn
from them. The majority of people would agree with the fact that mistakes demonstrate that you are
trying. Shaw states that a life spent making mistakes is much better than a life spent doing nothing at
all. He implies with this statement that mistakes are useful. My mistake involved none other than a
yellow stained sock. It was a fairly normal day that day, at least for my second grade self. The
classroom smelled of ashy crayon dust and wax, like it so often did. There were constellation like
specks of dry paint on the chair I was supposed to sit in, and the germophobe in me wanted to scratch
them off with whatever remains of my bitten fingernails were still left. Instead, I brought myself to sit
down. The coloring assignment that day wasn t all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

allowed to eat, sleep, and bathe. I was yelled at and reprimanded. Until one relieving day when I was

we arrived home, my older brother s socks were yellow, somehow. Consequently, my mom finally
believed that I had done nothing wrong, and had not been making my socks yellow on purpose all of
those days. In summation, I believe my mistake was useful, as George Shaw suggests. This mistake
taught me the consequences of being greedy and dishonest, and the memory sticks with me to this day.

The Uses Of Differential Stain
Erica Stevens June 2, 2015 Gram Stain Laboratory Report
Purpose:
To understand how the use of differential stains can help us identify cell morphology. Also to identify
the presence of two different bacteria in our mixed sample by identifying differences in color, shape
and grouping of eubacteria.
Theory and Background:
Gram stain is the most important and commonly used differential stain in microbiology (1).
Developed by Hans Christian Gram in 1884, while searching for a way to visualize bacteria in lung
tissue of people who had died from pneumonia. Gram used crystal violet as the primary stain, iodine
as the mordant followed by treatment with ethanol as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cell membrane is a selectively permeable barrier composed of a phospholipid bilayer and
proteins. This layer of the cellular envelope, protects the cell from bursting under external osmotic
pressure and for communication between cells. The cell wall is found on the outer surface of the
cellular envelope, and it is here that the composition of the cell differs (4). In gram positive cells, the
cell membrane is separated from the cell wall by a thin periplasmic space. The periplasmic space is an
area for storage of enzymes secreted by the cell membrane and synthesis of peptidoglycan (3). The
cell wall is composed of peptidoglycans; many long chains of glycans linked together by peptides
creating a permeable mesh like surface. In gram positive cells the layers of peptidoglycans is very
thick (20 80nm) and it protects the cell from bursting from internal pressure (3,4). The cell wall also
contains polysaccharides (teichoic acid and lipoteichoic acid) that are embedded in the peptidoglycan
structure. These structures assist in maintenance of the cell wall, cell division and pathogenic
functions of the cell (3). Gram negative cells have a larger periplasmic space that separates the cell
membrane from the cell wall. This periplasmic membrane is the site for metabolic reactions (3). The
cell wall in gram negative

The Bell Jar Sylvia Plath
Sylvia Plath Research Paper Title
The Bell Jar place[s] [the] turbulent months[of an adolescent s life] in[to] mature perspective (Hall,
30). In The Bell Jar, Sylvia Plath uses parallelism, stream of consciousness, the motif of renewal and
rebirth, symbolism of the boundary driven entrapped mentally ill, and auto biographical details to
epitomize the mental downfall of protagonist, Esther Greenwood. Plath also explores the idea of how
grave these timeless and poignant issues can affect a fragile, aspiring woman during an unforgiving
period for women.
Sylvia Plath discretely places many similarities between herself and Greenwood, displaying a sense of
verisimilitude and depicting a true life experience of mental illness in her ... Show more content on

The Bell Jar traps Esther stewing in her own sour air (Plath, 185). Esther is and forever will be an
outcast; the bell jar symbolizes the physical separation between her and society. Esther emotionally
cannot cope harmoniously with societal norms (Infobase, 12). Her repulsion of others causes her to
prefer to live a life seclusion. This glass barrier suffocates Esther causing her own madness to ensue.
Jars, specifically the bell jar, are clear. This allows society to peer through and scrutinize Esther and
her every flaw. Esther entrapped herself in a toxic environment which, to her, seems almost impossible
to escape. Once Esther escapes the bell jar, it remains suspended , only a few feet above [her] head ,
contributing an imminent thought of relapse (Plath 215).
Esther undergoes shock therapy in an effort to magically cure her; Esther begins emerging from an
enlightened womb. Esther s renewal parallels that of a newborn infant; this common literary motif of
transforming into the unknown for the better pinpoints Esther during her troubled hours. After a
turbulent period of questionable shock treatments, Esther seems to have entered a cured state (Smith
Bundzten, 35). Esther is, in a sense, reborn again. She is born twice patched, retreaded, and approved
for the road (Plath, 244). Her experiences have allowed to become stronger and gain stability

Questions On Computer Systems System
Task 1 Computer Systems
Internal System Unit Components:
Central processing unit
A processor or also known as a micro processor is a small chip that goes inside a computer and some
other electronic devices. The job of a processor is very important as it has to receive input and provide
the appropriate output. This component can handle trillions of calculations per second.
The main processor in a computer system is called a central processing unit which handles all the
simple instructions that the computer gives. For example it gives instructions for processing output
features like the mouse and keyboard and running applications. The processor fits on the motherboard
and is known as the heart of the computer system as it controls everything that takes place in the
computer system. The central processing unit contains the circuitry which processes the instructions in
the computer programs by interpreting them into actual movements of bits of data within the computer
memory. Motherboard
The motherboard is the most important component within a computer system. The motherboard is a
printed circuit board where the majority of the essential parts of the PC belongs. Connections between
the actual PC and peripherals go through the motherboard. The motherboard houses components like
the CPU, RAM and other hardware components. BIOS
The basic input/output system is a collection of software utilities that forms part of the operating
system. BIOS are built into a PC and are run

Lexus Research Paper
Most people know Lexus as a Toyota s luxury branch. They make luxury cars comparable to those
made by prominent names in Luxury like Mercedes, and out sell them. Granted Toyota makes cheaper
cars than most of their competitors in any market, that is how they have been the number one seller for
so long (though their throne was taken by Volkswagen this year). Now Lexus has taken an important
step, they are trying to innovate ahead of their competition with their Hoverboard; code name: SLIDE.
Ironically, their hoverboard does not actually slide. In their promotional video Ross McGouran does
grind a rail momentarily. However, I am sure that was only accomplished because the rail was
designed specifically for that. Unless a ramp led directly up to the rail (as it did in that skate park), that
would never be possible, because the board is exceedingly heavy and incapable of a traditional Ollie.
Truly, the board itself is Hyper impractical; not that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lexus used a superconductor, a technology that won the nobel prize when it was discovered 20 years
later by Heike Kamerlingh Onnes. Another 20 years went by before it was discovered that the
superconductive state also repels magnetic fields. This budding old technology allowed SLIDE to
float on 3 4 inches of a magnetic field while achieving zero fiction (other than air resistance).
What makes the feat impressive, is that it was a fantastic proof of concept for superconductive
technology, which could be pivotal for many industries. Arx Pax had envisioned using their eddy
currents to save buildings in case of earthquakes and other disasters. Their website has quite a few
suggested uses; superconductivity could make all of those processes more efficient. The problem thus
far is the price, there is much more of an established infrastructure for eddy currents to take advantage
of, making the technology momentarily more

Analysis Of The Film Chiron From The Movie Moonlight
Chiron from the movie Moonlight , his decisions of who he became, was not entirely by him. His
decisions were made through a mix of him and his circumstances. Proving that his decisions were
mainly influenced by his circumstances was the scene where he told Kevin that after the incident with
Tyrell, he went to jail and from there he built himself from the ground up. This decision is influenced
by him going to jail and he didn t want to let people to punk him around. If your bullied, your going to

Imagery In Macbeth By Caroline Spurgeon
Imagery makes use of words that help to create a visual of ideas in one s mind throughout works of
literature. According to Caroline F.E Spurgeon, the imagery in Macbeth appears to be more rich and
varied, more highly imaginative, more unapproachable by any other writer, than that of any other
single play (Spurgeon 155). The imagery helps readers to understand and imagine the complexities of
the play. One particular piece of imagery that is evident throughout Macbeth is the picture of Macbeth
himself. An idea that recurs throughout Macbeth, is that Macbeth s new honors causes him to have an
ill change in his personality. Readers are able to see this recurring change through imagery. Surgeon
describes this change as a loose and badly fitting

My Year At The Winner City Pool
In my eighteen years of my life, this summer has by far been the most memorable. It was filled with
many great memories during these past three months. This summer was filled with a lot of fun,
excitement, nerves, and sadness. Summer started one week early, but other than that it was pretty
much the same as every other summer. I spent a lot of my time working, with my friends and family,
and in the gym.
This year was my fourth year working as a lifeguard at the Winner city pool. Every year I have
worked, we only had to jump in for kids around three times the whole summer, and this year we
jumped in over ten times. I had to jump into the deepest part of the pool, which is twelve feet deep and
grab a little boy who started sinking after he jumped off the diving board. It was not hard because he
was light and I could just grab his arm and pull him to the ladder but it was very scary, and I was a
little shaken up afterwards. Also this year I did my third year of private swimming lessons. Usually I
give around ten to twelve lessons a summer and this year I doubled that and had twenty seven kids for
lessons. Lessons were very hard to schedule this year since I was so busy so working at the pool and
teaching kids basically consumed my whole summer.
Just like any other summer, I was with my friends and family a lot. My friends and I would go to the
outdoor movie theater almost every Sunday night since it was cheap night and we always sat in the
back row and never watched the movie,

Video Games And The Field Of Communication
This week s episode of COMMPENDIUM featured guest Rory McGloin, an individual whom
Professor Stifano has known for the past ten years. Mr. McGloin is a media researcher, a director of
undergraduate studies, and an instructor for the University of Connecticut s persuasion and public
speaking courses. He developed an affinity for the field of communication after taking an
interpersonal course as an undergraduate at Stonehill College. However, it was not until Mr. McGloin
took a media research course in his junior year that he decided to pursue this area. Most importantly,
he recalled how people questioned the future and purpose of the field of communication. Specifically,
Mr. McGloin s research is on violence in video games and how it changes the perception of the game
as well as one s behavior after playing. Additional topics within this research are immersion, mental
models, and interaction and involvement with various technological interfaces. His research and the
evolution of communication mentioned earlier are basically tied together. Moreover, it relates to what
we are currently studying, which is mass communication and how technologies evolved.
As previously mentioned, this podcast talks about how communication has expanded through
technological advancement, which I think is a key point. Mr. McGloin elaborates on this by explaining
how far along health communication has come. First off, individuals had limited information
regarding any aspect of their health, such as

Unlike the Minoan Palace of Knossos, the Citadel of Mycenae was heavily fortified and featured
many entrances. It s famous gate, The Lion Gate, is known for its keystone depicting two of the
animal. Though the columns appear Minoan in style, this is a Mycenaean innovation featuring the first
example of monumental sculpture in Greek art. This post and lintel limestone entrance is over 9 6 tall.
Also Mycenaean, the Beehive Tomb at the Treasury of Atreus, complete with corbelling, and post and

once highly decorated with paint and sculpture, though this can no longer be seen.
A mask, once thought to depict the face of Agamemnon, though now a disproved theory, was found at
the royal tombs of Mycenae. It is the likeness of a man and was used as a burial mask with a less
stylized beard and mustache.
Mycenae was full of war and turmoil. A vase, c.1300 100 bc, was dubbed The Warrior Vase for its
scene of women bidding farewell to the warrior men. Such a solemn feel seems to typify these times.

Racial Profiling And The American Civil Liberties Union
Racial profiling can hold a variety of meanings. As defined by the American Civil Liberties Union,
however, racial profiling is the discriminatory practice by law enforcement officials of targeting
individuals for suspicion of crime based on the individual s race, ethnicity, religion or national origin (
Racial Profiling ). Every day, blacks are stopped much more frequently for aimless searches and minor
infractions than their white counterparts. Several African Americans share experiences like these, such
as Roscoe Van Pelt, who was violently snatched off the street and crammed into a squad car after the
ludicrous crime of jaywalking (Walsh). A more extreme example would be the case of Sandra Bland,
who was brutally beaten following failure to signal a lane change (Schuppe). Incidents like these
occur far too frequently in black communities, all for the color of their skin. The practices of police
can best be explained in the elaboration of case probability versus class probability. Case probability is
when police take specific evidence with concrete proof in regards to the victim of a crime to accuse
one of a crime. Class probability, however, is when police generalize normal committers of the
specific crime to accuse one for it. For example, if police aimed to prosecute a seller of marijuana and
Hispanics were typically known to commit such a crime, class probability would be integrated into
case investigation if police searched every Hispanic on site for the

Human Nature In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
Human nature can be described in many different ways by people all across the world, because the
way people act in certain situations can affect your normal behavior . The proper definition of human
nature is the the general psychological characteristics, feelings, and behavioral traits of humankind,
regarded as shared by all humans. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, one of the main characters,
Ralph was biased against Piggy because of his appearance he thought that he was weak,
He hesitated for a moment, then spoke again. What s your name? Ralph. The fat boy to be asked his
name in turn but this proffer of acquaintance was not made; the fair boy called Ralph smiled vaguely,
stood up, and began to make his way once more toward the lagoon. The fat boy hung steadily at his
shoulder. Then he tripped over a branch and came down with a crash. The fat boy stood by him,
breathing hard. My auntie told me not to run, he explained, on account of my asthma. Ass mar? That s
right. Can t catch my breath. I was the only boy in our school what had asthma, said the fat boy with a
touch of pride. (Golding 9).
Golding shows that there is evil in human nature, when they first introduce the beast, Jack brushed it
off and told everyone that there is not a beast and if he was he was going to kill it.
,
He wants to know what you re going to do about the snake thing. Ralph laughed, and the other boys
laughed with him. The small boy twisted further into himself. Tell us about the snake thing. Now he
says it was a beastie. Beastie? A snake thing. Ever so big. He saw it. Where? In the woods. Either the
wandering breezes or perhaps the decline of the sun allowed a little coolness to lie under the trees...
You couldn t have a beastie, a snake thing, on an island this size, Ralph explained kindly. Ralph s right
of course. There isn t a snake thing. But if there was a snake we d hunt it and kill it. (Golding 35).
The author used the paint Jack put on his face as a symbol of savagery, it was used as a camouflage
for so he can go hunting for pigs. They don t smell me. They see me, I think. Something pink, under
the trees. ... He turned a half concealed face up to Roger and answered

The Eighth Amendment states Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor

The problem that arose was not the inability of the Supreme Court to understand the meaning between
the words, but the inability to agree with what constitutes Cruel and Unusual . What one Justice
considered not enough, another might feel that the punishment was too severe. McWilliams writes,

Elementary Dual Language Program At Lincoln Elementary School
I observed a 3rd grade dual language program at Lincoln Elementary School in Blue Island, Illinois.
The philosophy of the program is to provide a well rounded educational foundation that supports
children s academic, physical, and emotional growth, success, and commitment to others. They
believe that if they can create a community in the classrooms, have high expectations for all students,
and nurture their native language as well as their second language, the students will be successful.
The program consisted of 2 classrooms. During the school day, 50% of the time the students are
learning in Spanish listening, speaking, reading, and writing. And the other 50% is spent learning in
English. The English class teaches English/Language Arts, Math, and Social Studies. The Spanish
class teaches English/language Arts, Science. The English teacher is not allowed to speak Spanish, not
even to help out students. The Spanish teacher is not allowed to speak English, not even to help out
students. However both teachers used the language they were not allowed to speak to teach cognates.
The third graders were able to understand Spanish and English, respond in Spanish and English, and
write in Spanish and English. This is not like a bilingual classroom where students are transitioning
from Spanish to being proficient in English. They are all on different levels of proficiency, but all
students read, write, listen, and speak in both languages.

Why Is Multitasking Should Be Allowed In School
Hi my name is Tanika Munroe, I attend Piscataway High School. I am writing to you today
concerning the matter of students having to receive a B average or higher in order to participate in
clubs or sports. In my school I already see such a matter going on. If students don t maintain a certain
grade they are put on something called a sports leave or sports tutoring. This is so the players can get
their grade up so that they can continue to play on the team. I strongly believe that this is unfair
because for one it is hard for someone to get used to multitasking I can speak on this myself. You
might say its something one person can get used to but this is not true, not everyone can get used to
something like that. Secondly, there are kids who play sports that may have learning disabilities, there
should be exceptions for students like that. Lastly, academics do come first but, I believe that sports
and clubs are some of the reasons students look forward to coming to school. ... Show more content on

parents a sport is a main priority in a child s life. On top of trying to be a top player in their sport, they

two things. Students should just have a warning at first so they can buck up not just straight disable

The Ineffectiveness of Education Reform Essay
On January 8, 2002 President Bush signed into law the Leave No Child Behind Act, which
significantly changes how public schools receive federal funding. This bipartisan supported attempt at
reform, the first of this magnitude since the Elementary Secondary Education Act of 1965, shows a
dedicated concern to improving education. However, it is not plausible a punishment/rewards system
will positively improve schools on a large scale as a nationwide policy should.
President Bush s apparent prioritizing of schools is the positive stance for the federal government to
take on this issue, especially at a time when domestic concerns could be overshadowed by global
tensions and war activities. At first glance, one may be reassured by the ... Show more content on

This education policy was conceived at a time of prosperity, so whether the government continues to
increase spending remains to be seen.
The new legislation focuses on a pertinent aspect of education, raising standards for students, but
determining funding by test scores does not guarantee widespread results. This new policy relies on
the threat tactic of schools improving for fear of federal funding being reduced; if a school does not
meet the new standards, how will reducing funding improve it? The government will continue funding
school districts which are already capable of invoking sufficient test scores, while cutting back
funding to the districts which can not, offering the alternative of government funded transportation to
another school. This is the legislation s flaw: it should be teachers taking proficiency tests periodically
to display their qualifications in order to remain teaching. Most teachers are dedicated to their own
education, and so would not likely oppose such a policy. Instead we have the federal government
holding funding with the justification of accountability over school districts, demanding improved test
scores.
This criticism is rooted in both skepticism towards the policy s effectiveness, and confidence in an
alternative potential solution: the government could radically change the profession of
teaching/education by establishing a national base salary which would consequently mean an overall

6.3 Amyloid Theory
6.3 Amyloid theory The most commonly supported hypothesis for the cause of AD relates to a protein
expressed in many cells, of unknown function and implicated in familial AD due to mutations in the
gene that code for it(Wisniewski, Wisniewski Wen 1985). Although its function is not completely
understood, amyloid precursor protein (APP) is suggested to be critical for neuron growth(Turner et
al. 2003, Vasto et al. 2008, Priller et al. 2006), signalling, and may also function as an
antioxidant(Crouch 2007) and a metalloprotein, modulating copper transport and metabolism(Turner
et al. 2003, Priller et al. 2006, Kong et al. 2007). The parent protein, the 695 770 amino acid APP, in
most cell types undergoes the non amyloidogenic pathway. Cleavage of the APP protein can occur at

The amyloidogenic version of the pathway involves cleavage by secretase followed by the secretase
(see figure 6), releasing the 40 43 amino acid amyloid beta (A) peptide, thought to cause the
neurodegenerative disease(Selkoe 2001, Findeis 2007). The enzymatic action of secretase leaves a C
terminal fragment known as APP CTF or
C99, within the membrane and releases APPs into the extracellular space. After A peptide generation
by secretase from the C99 fragment, the A peptide is extracellularly secreted(Rogaeva et al. 2007).
Most of the A peptides produced are 40 amino acids long, however it is thought in the diseased state

The Self Centered, Me Mentality, A Character Flaw That...
A self centered, me mentality, is a character flaw that many Americans struggle with. Consider the
man that was cautioned by his mother to become financially stable in his life before having children.
He did not heed her advice and created three children before completing college. The choices he made
resulted in him working long hours, paying endless amounts of child support, and having no time for a
social life of his own. He chronically complains and while he created his own storm, he got upset
when it rained (Tagore). While some people wisely accept personal responsibility for the situations
they have created due to choices and decisions they chose to make, others are quick to use self
justification methods and therefore lack the ability to take responsibility for their own lives. According
to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, narcissism is an excessive interest in one s self; or self
centeredness arising from failure to distinguish the self from external objects (Merriam Webster.com).
This is a contributing factor of the growing problem of many Americans whom refuse to acknowledge
their unproductive behaviors. If it seems like responsibility shirking is on the rise, it may not be your
imagination. Narcissism has risen 30% among college students since 1979, and studies show their self
confidence is at an all time high (artofmanliness.com). People are very focused on themselves and do
not care about the consequences of their actions. This is causing major

improving. Violet and Reggie also noted a change in Ronnie as the days went by. No longer was he
the playful, outgoing boy he used to be. He was more shy and reserved, and much less talkative. Since
Ronnie was so young when he had diphtheria, it could have caused permanent impairment. Ronnie

Muscle Contraction Essay
Q1
Muscle contraction can be understood as the consequence of a process of transmission of action
potentials from one neuron to another. A chemical called acetylcholine is the neurotransmitter released
from the presynaptic neuron. As the postsynaptic cells on the muscle cell membrane receive the
acetylcholine, the channels for the cations sodium and potassium are opened. These cations produce a
net depolarization of the cell membrane and this electrical signal travels along the muscle fibers.
Through the movement of calcium ions, the muscle action potential is taken into actual muscle
contraction with the interaction of two types of proteins, actin and myosin. Different steps of activities
are involved in muscle contraction. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This activity is the critical driving force of muscle contraction. The stream of action potentials along
the muscle fiber surface is terminated as Acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction is broken down
by acetyl cholinesterase. The release of Calcium ions is ceased. The action of the myosin molecule
heads is obstructed because of the change in the configuration of troponin and tropomyosin due to the
absence of calcium ions. This will eventually cause the contraction to be ceased. Together with these
physical processes, an external stretching force such as gravity pulls the muscle back to its normal
length.

interventionist ideologies. On the other hand, Cuba pre and post Cold War was a growing power that
gave voice and representation to nations who had been previously colonized and dominated by bigger

Clinton was even considering military intervention in Cuba before agreeing upon the implementation

In terms of the artists and musicians, I believe that although they started out as losers, in the end, they
ended up winning because for already discovered, well known singers, they are getting the royalties
they are owed and for new, up and coming artists, they are getting their name out there in a much less
expensive way than before and still making some sort of money to support their dream. The agents
and label companies will become winners as well through the transformations. The larger companies
will most likely lose some strength and then gain back once they begin to find new artists and those
artists begin to take off. The risk/reward of the digital market here will yield much more reward and
their financial strength from the start will help them be a winner here. I feel the biggest loser in
throughout the entire industry transformation is the packaging and CD production industry. Because
CDs are no longer at an all time high, they will no longer be needed. There is very little need for this
and it has almost become a niche market, barely used for music anymore, unless someone is burning

A Brief History of Harriet Jacobs
As a slave and as a runaway, Harriet Jacobs suffered more psychological abuse than physical abuse.
Harriet Jacobs had to withstand massive amounts of pain and psychological torture due to her place in
society as a slave. Jacobs does not leave out the physical aspect of the suffering, however, she focuses
more on the spiritual and emotional aspect of the slavery age. Although Jacobs had a relatively easy
life in comparison to other slaves, she was deprived from basic human rights and necessities,

Psychodynamic Approach To Religion
1) As a result of the immensely diverse nature of the phenomena it intends to understand, the study of
religion requires a multitude of analytic methods. Consequently, these methods may be categorized as
either being grounded in empirical analysis of biological, psychological, or physiological data
producing a perspective which is exclusively characterized as outsider. Thus, according to this

What Role Does Morality Play In A Utopian Society
The concept of utopia is one which has many differing connotations and is therefore also one which
cannot be confined to one interpretation alone. The term is commonly used to represent a community
or society that, in theory, possesses highly desirable or near perfect qualities; however, these
encompassing ideals, which arguably place emphasis on egalitarian principles of equality, are
implemented in a number of ways and are subsequently based on varying ideologies, thus insisting on
varying views of morality. The word itself, which was first coined by Sir Thomas More in the early

1. Introduction
Mining is an important activity, as it extracts the source of most objects, tools and items that are used
in many ways in society. There are drawbacks, however, as it brings environmental and social impacts,
like pollution of the waterways, change in the landscape and the concentration of labour force. In
Waihi, the mining plays an important role in sustaining the economy of the city, but it also brings
problems that have to be managed by the Newmont Gold Company. The focus of the field trip is to
locate the potential environmental issues that may be linked to mining by using a natural and physical

The Procedure Of Language Learning Of The Infants
Less than 1 percent of American adults today are proficient in a foreign language that they studied in a
U.S. classroom, states Amelia Friedman in The Atlantic. That s noteworthy considering that in 2008
almost all high schools in the country 93 percent offered foreign languages (Friedman). This has
resulted in, as Brad Marshall, a teaching fellow of languages and literatures, notes, [the] widespread
belief that adults will inevitably have problems and will certainly never become fluent, while children
are supposed to pick up languages with ease . However, study after study has shown the procedure of
language learning of the infants. The essential elements of learning a language lie in your ears and the
way you process into the language. Although there is a widespread myth in learning a language
children acquire a language much easier than adults do the innate ability of adults language acquisition
are basically as same as that of children s.
Adults have a hard time understanding what people are saying in a foreign language. They think they
don t know what they are saying because of their lack of vocabulary, but it turns out they cannot even
understand a word that they know when they hear the word. However, this phenomena you cannot
catch the sound of a foreign language is pretty normal. As the first step of the language acquisition, the
infants tune their ears to be perceptual to the language. Marcia Barinaga in the journal Science points

Similarities And Differences Between The Second Great...
Tom Richey compares the First Great Awakening with the Second Great Awakening in his video. Both
awakenings had an impact on religion. There are some similarities and differences between the First
Great Awakening and the Second Great Awakening. The most obvious similarity between both of the
awakenings was that they are considered religious revivals. The preaching style during both of the
awakenings was more fire and brimstone, meaning the focus was sending a picture of Hell to their
audience. Preachers also connected with their audience on an emotional level. The First Awakening

The Cosby Show Research Paper
There is no other time like the 1980s. The 1980s was a decade of important cultural and political
change. Music was punk and loud. Pop culture changed. Fashion was wild and over the top, with lots
of makeup, accessories, and big funky hair. Sitcoms did incorporate a lot of these elements; however,
sitcoms also addressed social issues and problems. Racism was one of the problems in sitcoms in the
1980s, and three shows that addressed racism were The Cosby Show, A Different World, and Diff rent
Strokes.
The Cosby Show was an American television sitcom that ran from September 20, 1984 to April 30,
1992. The show focused on an African American family (The Huxtables) who were an upper middle
class family living in Brooklyn, New York. The family was very wealthy ... Show more content on

The show was a television spin off of The Cosby Show. This show showed the life of one of the
Huxtables daughter, Denis, going to Hillman College. This show did not only express real life issues
and situations, but it also taught the viewers about culture and friendships. Racism was addressed in
many ways; however, in season 5 episode 14 Cats in the Cradle both parties were involved. In this
episode, students at Hillman College confront a racial act committed by students at a rival school,
which resulted in both parties being put in jail and forced to confront their differences. I can t even get
a cab to New York. You know it doesn t matter how many degrees I get. All you people see is colour.
Your grandfather was an immigrant, you are American. My father was born here duke, and you people
still look at me as just another nigger (A Different World, season 5). Maybe you should look at me as
an individual, and not as a colour (A Different World, season 5) This episode does not only prove that
racism only happens to black people but that it happens to many other cultures, ethnicities, and
religions as

Nike Breakdown
A. Segmentation Criteria
Demographic:
The age range of Nike is from infant to elderly. Their primary range would be the primary
active/buying years from 18 45. However they design products for babies as well as youth, and many
senior citizens still wear nike sweat suits, so its really wide open. Nike certainly does not target one
gender intentionally harder then another. They do a good job of reaching out to both sexes very
effectively. The average income attracted to nike would be middle class or higher. It is not an
extremely expensive product, but in its industry is considered upper end. Since the brand is associated
with athletics level of education is irrelevant. The two races most heavily targeted by Nike are
Caucasian and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This product fits my lifestyle because I want to be the best. I want to always look my best and show
confidence. I want to look like I m the real deal but I also want to perform like it. Nike works for me
because it gives me a slight edge in quality, it looks good to the eye, and shows people that I don t
mess around.
This product is high involvement. I see the swoosh every time I use the product. I use so many
different Nike products, and so scattered throughout the day, I definitely use alot of Nike. Nike is
certainly an item I specifically go out and purchase.
The positioning strategy of Nike is Product class. Nike is a high quality higher priced product. It is
considered top of the line in it s industry. Their position is the class of their brand. Nike s Just Do It is

The word Wit has multiple definitions, most of which metaphysical poets use in their distinctive
poetic style. Definitions for wit include: the keen perception and cleverly apt expression of those
connections between ideas that awaken amusement and pleasure (Dictionary.com 2014) and
understanding, intelligence, or sagacity, astuteness (Dictionary.com 2014).
In this paper I will unpack the main features of metaphysical poetry and explore the relevance of wit
and conceit in relation to John Donne s works. Furthermore, I will endeavour to make connections
between John Donne, the person and John Donne, the poet. By analysing different poems I will draw
on Donne s history, poetic style, and era to ascertain whether Donne s use of wit is a ... Show more

In 1601, Donne s life s successes were reversed after secretly marrying Anne Moore with whom he
had twelve children. Their marriage ruined his career and he was sent to prison with Samuel Brooke
who married them. The Donne family lived in poverty for ten years and was dependent on the charity
of friends, family and patrons. Donne s works reflects his life s journey where in the early years when
he was enjoying womanizing, travelling and building his career, he wrote his love poems. However,
during Donne s lean years, he wrote his divine poems and elegies for patrons. During the early 1600 s
after being forced to convert to Anglicanism by King James I and the death of his wife Anne in 1617,
Donne continued to write poetry, notably his Holy Sonnets (1618) (Jokinen, 2006). He was consumed
with grief by the loss of his wife for whom he wrote the seventeenth Holy Sonnet, Since she whom I
lov d hath paid her last debt (Jokinen, 2006). In the later years of his life Donne s work focused on
death. His private meditations are testimony to his mind set during this time of his life. Most notably
is Meditation 17, which include the immortal lines No man is an island and never send to know for
whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee (Jokinen, 2006).
The works of John Donne continues to evoke discordance among literary critics. Donne, who is
acknowledged as being the leader in metaphysical

Why Societies Fall
While Great societies are well great, nothing can last forever. Many great societies that people thought
will never die have fallen to various things. Take rome, they fell because inflation of money, which
didn t allow for much spending. Or the Nazi s. That Nazi government was very corrupt and fell
because of what they did. Or even the Etruscans. They were overthrown by the very people they
governed. So Societies fall for many reasons, including corrupt leaders, money inflation, and social
revolution.
Societies fall politically because of things like corrupt government, or invasion. One example is in
Saga where the dark queen of the world doesn t care for anyone but herself, and controls the lives of
everyone. The Citizens of the world lived in poverty, because the government neglected them. As said
in the book, This world with the humans, pathetic creatures that are so easy to manipulate. (223
Kostick)
Another good example just like Saga is Nazi Germany, where Adolf Hitler ruled with an iron fist. He
strictly controlled all forms of media, and killed anyone who disagreed with him. Hitler did not care
about his citizens, he only cared about his own personal agenda. As said on Wikipedia, The Holocaust
and Germany s war in the East was based on Hitler s long standing view that the Jews were the great
enemy of the German people and that Lebensraum was needed for the expansion of Germany. He
focused on Eastern Europe for this expansion, aiming to defeat Poland and the Soviet

  • 2. Kristallnacht The Night of Shimmering Glass Kristallnacht, Night of Crystal, was a turning point between Germany and the rest of the world. On November 9th, 1938, an uprising against the Jewish residents of Germany and Austria occurred. This attack against the Jewish was referred to as a pogrom. Kristallnacht was the first marked nationwide action against religion. The Nazi regime and their wish to implement Nuremberg s laws helped push start the process of degrading Jews to an inferior level in life by giving reason to start the riot. The accumulation of events and new laws leading to Kristallnacht forced thousands of Jews to be stuck on the border lines of Poland and Germany, thus setting the stage for Germany s justification for the genocide yet ... (7) In other words, if Polish citizens living abroad failed to meet with appropriate officials, they were no longer welcomed to the country. This conflict of German and Polish laws left thousands of Polish Jews on the border, between Poland and Germany, in the cold and with little or no provisions. This deportation also led to the next step accelerating the events of Kristallnacht. In the crowd of Polish Jews being held at the border, the Grynszpan family acted as the detonator to Kristallnacht. On November 3rd 1938, Herschel Grynszpan, at the time living in Paris, received a postcard from his family informing him of their conditions and asking for his help. (8) Angered and annoyed by the situation and how it was being handled by both the Germans and the Polish, on November 7th Grynszpan walked into the German Embassy in Paris and fatally wounded a German official named Ernst vom Rath. On November 8th, following the murder of Ernst vom Rath, attacks and destructions of Jewish property already had started. Vom Rath s death, declared on November 9th, gave the Nazi regime a perfect reason to organize a pogrom. On November 9th and 10th, 1938 the Nazi s staged a monstrous anti Jewish ... • 3. Should Undergraduates Specialize Summary In Should Undergraduates Specialize? Patrick Allitt contrasts his experience at the University of Oxford in England with that of his daughter Frances at Emory University in America, questioning the need for a well rounded college education rather than a highly focused one. Despite his conclusion that a one size fits all approach does not work in education, his patronizing tone and contradictory arguments suggest he does believe that; he simply disagrees with the approach America is taking. Additionally, while basing criticism of higher education in America on one anecdotal account from another country over thirty years ago has nostalgic value, it does little to promote solutions to problems he touches on. One of the biggest flaws in Allitt s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his introductory anecdote, the author notes that his parents paid roughly $400 for his entire three years at Oxford. On the other hand, a student at Emory, where he has taught since 1988, can expect to pay over $150,000. Clearly, inflation is a factor; however, today, that $400 would be equivalent to a few thousand dollars, far outside the six digit tuition students like his daughter face. For this reason, his argument for streamlined education that focuses on the field the student wants to pursue makes sense. If tailored education could lower the cost and amount of time an individual spends pursuing his degree, college would be attainable for a larger number of people. Unfortunately, many young adults do not enter college with a single career pinpointed. The well rounded approach may be wasteful for the student who knows she wants to work in the culinary arts, whereas a variety of classes may help the undecided student find direction. While Allitt does acknowledge that possibility, he does not offer any suggestions to counter it. When the majority of American graduates leave school facing $30,000 in debt, certainty that they pursued the right career is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The majority of people would agree with the fact that mistakes demonstrate that you are trying. Shaw states that a life spent making mistakes is much better than a life spent doing nothing at all. He implies with this statement that mistakes are useful. My mistake involved none other than a yellow stained sock. It was a fairly normal day that day, at least for my second grade self. The classroom smelled of ashy crayon dust and wax, like it so often did. There were constellation like specks of dry paint on the chair I was supposed to sit in, and the germophobe in me wanted to scratch them off with whatever remains of my bitten fingernails were still left. Instead, I brought myself to sit down. The coloring assignment that day wasn t all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She thought I was deliberately making my socks yellow every day. She did not like the disrespect, she did not like the lies, and she did not like that I was being wasteful. I told her the truth about what I had done after being punished for the first time, but she never believed me, claiming that if my story were true, my sneaker would also be yellow (which it wasn t). I was punished for days and was only allowed to eat, sleep, and bathe. I was yelled at and reprimanded. Until one relieving day when I was finally believed. My brother, my parents, and I had gone to Midland Beach s sprinkler together. When we arrived home, my older brother s socks were yellow, somehow. Consequently, my mom finally believed that I had done nothing wrong, and had not been making my socks yellow on purpose all of those days. In summation, I believe my mistake was useful, as George Shaw suggests. This mistake taught me the consequences of being greedy and dishonest, and the memory sticks with me to this day. Also to identify the presence of two different bacteria in our mixed sample by identifying differences in color, shape and grouping of eubacteria. Theory and Background: Gram stain is the most important and commonly used differential stain in microbiology (1). The cell membrane is a selectively permeable barrier composed of a phospholipid bilayer and proteins. This layer of the cellular envelope, protects the cell from bursting under external osmotic pressure and for communication between cells. The cell wall is found on the outer surface of the cellular envelope, and it is here that the composition of the cell differs (4). In gram positive cells, the cell membrane is separated from the cell wall by a thin periplasmic space. The periplasmic space is an area for storage of enzymes secreted by the cell membrane and synthesis of peptidoglycan (3). The cell wall is composed of peptidoglycans; many long chains of glycans linked together by peptides creating a permeable mesh like surface. In gram positive cells the layers of peptidoglycans is very thick (20 80nm) and it protects the cell from bursting from internal pressure (3,4). The cell wall also contains polysaccharides (teichoic acid and lipoteichoic acid) that are embedded in the peptidoglycan structure. These structures assist in maintenance of the cell wall, cell division and pathogenic functions of the cell (3). In The Bell Jar, Sylvia Plath uses parallelism, stream of consciousness, the motif of renewal and rebirth, symbolism of the boundary driven entrapped mentally ill, and auto biographical details to epitomize the mental downfall of protagonist, Esther Greenwood. Plath also explores the idea of how grave these timeless and poignant issues can affect a fragile, aspiring woman during an unforgiving period for women. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Bell Jar traps Esther stewing in her own sour air (Plath, 185). Esther is and forever will be an outcast; the bell jar symbolizes the physical separation between her and society. Esther emotionally cannot cope harmoniously with societal norms (Infobase, 12). Her repulsion of others causes her to prefer to live a life seclusion. This glass barrier suffocates Esther causing her own madness to ensue. Jars, specifically the bell jar, are clear. This allows society to peer through and scrutinize Esther and her every flaw. Esther entrapped herself in a toxic environment which, to her, seems almost impossible to escape. Once Esther escapes the bell jar, it remains suspended , only a few feet above [her] head , contributing an imminent thought of relapse (Plath 215). Esther undergoes shock therapy in an effort to magically cure her; Esther begins emerging from an enlightened womb. Esther s renewal parallels that of a newborn infant; this common literary motif of transforming into the unknown for the better pinpoints Esther during her troubled hours. After a turbulent period of questionable shock treatments, Esther seems to have entered a cured state (Smith Bundzten, 35). Esther is, in a sense, reborn again. Questions On Computer Systems System Task 1 Computer Systems Internal System Unit Components: Central processing unit A processor or also known as a micro processor is a small chip that goes inside a computer and some other electronic devices. The job of a processor is very important as it has to receive input and provide the appropriate output. This component can handle trillions of calculations per second. The main processor in a computer system is called a central processing unit which handles all the simple instructions that the computer gives. For example it gives instructions for processing output features like the mouse and keyboard and running applications. The processor fits on the motherboard and is known as the heart of the computer system as it controls everything that takes place in the computer system. The central processing unit contains the circuitry which processes the instructions in the computer programs by interpreting them into actual movements of bits of data within the computer memory. Motherboard The motherboard is the most important component within a computer system. The motherboard is a printed circuit board where the majority of the essential parts of the PC belongs. Connections between the actual PC and peripherals go through the motherboard. The motherboard houses components like the CPU, RAM and other hardware components. Granted Toyota makes cheaper cars than most of their competitors in any market, that is how they have been the number one seller for so long (though their throne was taken by Volkswagen this year). Now Lexus has taken an important step, they are trying to innovate ahead of their competition with their Hoverboard; code name: SLIDE. Ironically, their hoverboard does not actually slide. In their promotional video Ross McGouran does grind a rail momentarily. However, I am sure that was only accomplished because the rail was designed specifically for that. This summer was filled with a lot of fun, excitement, nerves, and sadness. Summer started one week early, but other than that it was pretty much the same as every other summer. I spent a lot of my time working, with my friends and family, and in the gym. This year was my fourth year working as a lifeguard at the Winner city pool. Every year I have worked, we only had to jump in for kids around three times the whole summer, and this year we jumped in over ten times. I had to jump into the deepest part of the pool, which is twelve feet deep and grab a little boy who started sinking after he jumped off the diving board. It was not hard because he was light and I could just grab his arm and pull him to the ladder but it was very scary, and I was a little shaken up afterwards. Also this year I did my third year of private swimming lessons. Usually I give around ten to twelve lessons a summer and this year I doubled that and had twenty seven kids for lessons. Lessons were very hard to schedule this year since I was so busy so working at the pool and teaching kids basically consumed my whole summer. He developed an affinity for the field of communication after taking an interpersonal course as an undergraduate at Stonehill College. However, it was not until Mr. McGloin took a media research course in his junior year that he decided to pursue this area. Most importantly, he recalled how people questioned the future and purpose of the field of communication. Specifically, Mr. McGloin s research is on violence in video games and how it changes the perception of the game as well as one s behavior after playing. Additional topics within this research are immersion, mental models, and interaction and involvement with various technological interfaces. His research and the evolution of communication mentioned earlier are basically tied together. Moreover, it relates to what we are currently studying, which is mass communication and how technologies evolved. As previously mentioned, this podcast talks about how communication has expanded through technological advancement, which I think is a key point. • 18. Racial Profiling And The American Civil Liberties Union Racial profiling can hold a variety of meanings. As defined by the American Civil Liberties Union, however, racial profiling is the discriminatory practice by law enforcement officials of targeting individuals for suspicion of crime based on the individual s race, ethnicity, religion or national origin ( Racial Profiling ). Every day, blacks are stopped much more frequently for aimless searches and minor infractions than their white counterparts. Several African Americans share experiences like these, such as Roscoe Van Pelt, who was violently snatched off the street and crammed into a squad car after the ludicrous crime of jaywalking (Walsh). A more extreme example would be the case of Sandra Bland, who was brutally beaten following failure to signal a lane change (Schuppe). Incidents like these occur far too frequently in black communities, all for the color of their skin. The practices of police can best be explained in the elaboration of case probability versus class probability. Case probability is when police take specific evidence with concrete proof in regards to the victim of a crime to accuse one of a crime. Class probability, however, is when police generalize normal committers of the specific crime to accuse one for it. For example, if police aimed to prosecute a seller of marijuana and Hispanics were typically known to commit such a crime, class probability would be integrated into case investigation if police searched every Hispanic on site for the ... This education policy was conceived at a time of prosperity, so whether the government continues to increase spending remains to be seen. The new legislation focuses on a pertinent aspect of education, raising standards for students, but determining funding by test scores does not guarantee widespread results. This new policy relies on the threat tactic of schools improving for fear of federal funding being reduced; if a school does not meet the new standards, how will reducing funding improve it? The government will continue funding school districts which are already capable of invoking sufficient test scores, while cutting back funding to the districts which can not, offering the alternative of government funded transportation to another school. This is the legislation s flaw: it should be teachers taking proficiency tests periodically to display their qualifications in order to remain teaching. Most teachers are dedicated to their own education, and so would not likely oppose such a policy. Instead we have the federal government holding funding with the justification of accountability over school districts, demanding improved test scores. The enzymatic action of secretase leaves a C terminal fragment known as APP CTF or C99, within the membrane and releases APPs into the extracellular space. After A peptide generation by secretase from the C99 fragment, the A peptide is extracellularly secreted(Rogaeva et al. 2007). Most of the A peptides produced are 40 amino acids long, however it is thought in the diseased state the usual 10% of A peptide production increases, causing havoc within the cell and the surrounding environment(Vasto et al. 2008). • 29. The Self Centered, Me Mentality, A Character Flaw That... A self centered, me mentality, is a character flaw that many Americans struggle with. Consider the man that was cautioned by his mother to become financially stable in his life before having children. He did not heed her advice and created three children before completing college. The choices he made resulted in him working long hours, paying endless amounts of child support, and having no time for a social life of his own. He chronically complains and while he created his own storm, he got upset when it rained (Tagore). While some people wisely accept personal responsibility for the situations they have created due to choices and decisions they chose to make, others are quick to use self justification methods and therefore lack the ability to take responsibility for their own lives. According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, narcissism is an excessive interest in one s self; or self centeredness arising from failure to distinguish the self from external objects (Merriam Webster.com). This is a contributing factor of the growing problem of many Americans whom refuse to acknowledge their unproductive behaviors. If it seems like responsibility shirking is on the rise, it may not be your imagination. Narcissism has risen 30% among college students since 1979, and studies show their self confidence is at an all time high (artofmanliness.com). She took him out of the hospital on her own accord since she knew he would only get worse lying in the hospital all day. She was right and Ronnie started slowly improving. Violet and Reggie also noted a change in Ronnie as the days went by. No longer was he the playful, outgoing boy he used to be. He was more shy and reserved, and much less talkative. • 32. Muscle Contraction Essay Q1 Muscle contraction can be understood as the consequence of a process of transmission of action potentials from one neuron to another. A chemical called acetylcholine is the neurotransmitter released from the presynaptic neuron. As the postsynaptic cells on the muscle cell membrane receive the acetylcholine, the channels for the cations sodium and potassium are opened. These cations produce a net depolarization of the cell membrane and this electrical signal travels along the muscle fibers. Through the movement of calcium ions, the muscle action potential is taken into actual muscle contraction with the interaction of two types of proteins, actin and myosin. Different steps of activities are involved in muscle contraction. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This activity is the critical driving force of muscle contraction. The stream of action potentials along the muscle fiber surface is terminated as Acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction is broken down by acetyl cholinesterase. This will eventually cause the contraction to be ceased. Together with these physical processes, an external stretching force such as gravity pulls the muscle back to its normal length.
