Controversy Of Child Pornography
In the censorship arena, there are variety of controversial, hateful and inappropriate topics debated
for subjectivity. Yet, child pornography became the leading rationale for censorship and was
outlawed in 1982 by New York vs. Ferber (Mintcheva, p.167; Adler, p.228). Children are one of the
most exposed demographics in society because they don t have autonomy and are reliant on adults.
Thus, the child pornographylaw aimed to prevent sexual abuse and molestation. Amy Adler,
contributor to Censoring Culture, argues that child pornographylaw is self indulgent and further
exacerbates the problem by bringing it into the public eye (Adler, p. 229). She also cites taking
on the gaze of the pedophile as part of the problem. By stooping to the level of a sexual predator,
courts and policy makers are making the problem worse. In an arena like the arts, where nudity and
vulnerability are king, this controversy over what is pornography is especially delicate.
The famous photographer Sally Mann photographed her children while they grew up in rural
West Virginia. The images she made showed them lying naked in fields, skinny dipping, falling
down, and other every day interactions. Critics were shocked at these naked, uncensored familial
portraits and considered them to be child pornography. In New York vs. Ferber, a major tenant of
the child pornography law includes the lascivious exhibition of the genitals (Adler, p.230).
Especially in art, however, who is to say what the

Critical Appreciation Of The Poem The Wanderer
Response to Literature: The Wanderer The Wander is an Elegy style poem that depicts the
suffering, exile, and memoirs of an anonymous narrator who refers to himself differently
according to what part of his life he is sharing; a Lone dweller , an Earth stepper , and the wise
man and the Warrior . Although, there is still a lot of debate on whether or not there was only one
narratorthroughout the poem. The Wandereris believed to have been created around the 5th or 6th
century, being orally handed down from generation to generation. However, it was actually written
down in the 10th century. It was then duplicated in the Exeter book, the biggest manuscript
collection of Old English poetryin existence, by scribes and is preserved... Show more content on

ItВґs also believed that the earth stepper and this unspecified narrator are one in the same. These
lines consist of the narratorВґs description of not only the ideal wise man, but also the ideal warrior.
The placement of these ideas is interesting. The narrator begins his descriptions of the ideal wise
man and warrior shortly after monologuing about his suffering and solitude. The Earth stepperВґs
testimony segues into the description of the Wise man. ItВґs as if the narrator has goes through a
short phase of introspection. (the wise man is also mentioned several times between line

The Characteristics And Stereotypes Of Latinos El Bandido
Reports show that Latinos are the most underrepresented ethnic group in film affected by
stereotypical issues shown via pictures in our heads and through watching. I concur with this
information as stereotype starts from a personal level, which is definite through meditation, this
does not include all the negative traits portrayed by the out group. Although we have some general
stereotypical agreements within in groups that cannot change. This stereotyping is evident in a
case where a foreigner defines Bandido accurately while a (North) American will involve them
with laziness, being dirty and all sorts of negativity on them. These findings make me feel that
Latinos and Americans will always be contrary to their filmindustry. The stereotypeon Latinos el
Bandido is based not only on ethnic but also behavioral, where they are deemed violent and
antisocial, different nationality, as in not belonging to the North America and psychological where
they are associated with alcoholic, prostitution and being unstable. With this stereotype,
Hollywood is seen as a perfect example of the filmmaking and professionalism, in a way this
demeans the Latinos effort in the film. Stereotypical images are in the cinematic register where
they are intentionally included to make film sale and also to be critical in the narration process.
Hollywood stereotyping Latino s poet is common in many films displaying poverty and crime as
part of their livelihood. Moreover, they use standard films

Essay on Evaluate Different Techniques for Sampling Evidence
3.1Evaluate different techniques for sampling evidence of assessment, including use of technology
There are a wide variety of techniques used for sampling the evidence of assessment which are all
valuable for different reasons. Below are listed these different techniques
a) Direct observation is the best way to evaluate the assessor s ability to carry out a fair and valid
assessment. The observation should ideally take place in the work environment and involve the
learner carrying out specific tasks as required for inclusion in the learner s portfolio of evidence.
The IQA can quickly establish the effect of the assessment on the learner and can get a good
impression of the rapport that the assessor has with the learner and the ... Show more content on

This can be problematic within the actual workplace
e) Questioning is another method of sampling evidence and will involve the questioning of both
the assessor and the candidate. To ensure that the evidence has the necessary validity the questions
to the learner should happen in private away from the assessor. The need for the learner to feel
that they have the confidence to disclose the true picture of the assessment process is very
important. The question sessions can be recorded on the necessary portfolio documentation but can
add validity if they are recorded on tape or digitally and used as evidence.
f) Underpinning knowledge questions can be sampled effectively as the Awarding Organisation
will provide the answers which can be checked and a total can be calculated and compared with
what the assessor has marked
g) E portfolios are a useful tool for assessments and can be sampled remotely along with virtual
assessment tools such as Skype etc. These can pose problems with validity as the assessor will
need to agree the conditions before assessment to ensure that the tasks have been completed by the
candidate and that there is no plagiarism which may interfere with the assessment process
h) The candidates will generally be allocated an expert witness whilst working on site. This person
is usually a

Attempts To Unify The English Colonies
During the colonial period, various attempts to unite the English colonies occurred. Issues arose
with the promotion of unity similar to any other instances in history. The colonies desperately
searched for ways they could have a more organized government, which could help them to protect
themselves against attacks from foreign nations. This urge to find ways to build the strength of the
colonies was directly related to the numerous taxes enforced on them by Britain. These taxes were a
form of compensation for a previous representation from Britain in the French and Indian War. The
interest in the establishment of unity in the colonies brought up various conversations which led to
the road to unifying the nation. Although the colonies had... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

European immigrants with those of American Colonists in order to achieve freedom from the
taxes enforced by Britain. We do by these present, solemnly and mutually, in the presence of God

Stereotypes Of Beer In Australia
Beer is the number one most popular alcoholic beverage in the world, dating back to 2050bc beer

current times we live in not too many don t know the main Australian beers such as fosters, victoria

With the number of alcohol brands in the world it is difficult for anyone to come to a full decision

There are many by products of beer, the most well known being Ale , lager and light beer, here are
all the different types of beer assorted by color , EBC (European Brewing Convention) and SRM
(standard Reference Method).
The Difference between the brewing method that turns regular beer into light beer is, a beer of
354ml has 150 calories compared to a light beer which only has 110 calories, most of these
calories come from the alcohol but the rest comes from carbohydrates within the beer.
Many wonder which is healthier heavy or light beer, as stated above light beer has less calories,
but within that there is less alcohol, which gives the consumer less of a buzz causing the effect of
multiple beers being drank which would of made heavy beers the better choice if your desire is to

Phone Addiction Essay
Phone Addiction for Teens and Their Parents In the article Half of Teens Think They re
Addicted to Their Smartphones by Kelly Wallace the general argument is that phones are
addictive not just to teens, but to everyone. Wallace starts the article by talking about how her
children, 8 and 10 years old, are spending more and more time on iPads while on spring break.
Due to this early iPad addiction she worries about her children for when they are older and have
their own phones. It then goes to a few different polls that state that everybody, not just teens, are
becoming addicted to their cell phones. According to a survey Common Sense Media conducted

organizations, I only went up to three organizations because I was more interested in their
companies.
The first company I went up to was Shaw because Shaw is a carpet company that I want to start

majoring in and what I am looking for. One of the ladies provided me information whether the
company had a position open for any accounting. Unfortunately, the company did not have any
opening. She told me after graduation to look at their website for any open position, so I left her
a copy of my resume. After having my first conversation, I realize I forgot to ask her for a business

Out of all the galaxies, the Milky Way is the place where intelligent life originated. Humans,
which have lived on earth for 200,000 thousand years, have thrived in its perfectly balanced
ecosystem. Although, many centuries have passed, humans have not been able to explore space
thoroughly yet we are mere specks of sand on a beach. Today s government should be supporting
NASA s search for extraterrestrial life instead of being egocentric. Therefore, this universehas
always been very big in a astronomical way. The distance from the beginning and the end of the

My answer is CHNOPS or carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus ,and sulfur. These
elements that are listed is the base or structure for each living organism on earth. Carbon is the most
favorable structure because it has a rich chemistry. The chemical structure of the carbon atom lets
it bond with other elements(including itself) in different ways. This ability to bond with elements
with ease is why there are so many creatures on earth. Which is why the study of molecules that
contain carbon is called organic chemistry. Out of the six elements listed earlier there are three of
them are are crucial to create life. Hydrogen, oxygen, and carbon have a lot of abundance
throughout the universe. Shouldn t this abundance of elements be able to create life in the
universe. Yes and No! This should have created life because the six elements should have created
life without a problem. Unless, the planet s ecosystem is not habitable, too hot, cold, or there weren
t enough elements to create a structure. But! Do not worry, there are still some potential in other
elements that can also create life. However, most life on earth is mostly carbon based and these
elements that can potentially create life would not be carbon based. These other elements can

Describe My Mother
I view my mother as the outmost magnificent person in my life, and I can t be more thankful to
have her. I would describe my mother as a strong and independent woman, my role model; I can t
think of another person that means a great deal to me. My mother is the sweetest and the trust
worthiest person, but she can also be tough and deliberate. My grandparent s personalities are strict,
therefore my motherwas raised in a harsh environment, this thought her to be strong and that not
everything is easy in life or handed to you. I consider her as the hardest working person I ever
know, consequently thanks to her hard work she achieved countless goals in her life. She would
always say to me you have to work hard to achieve your dreams , I believe her. If you knew her you
ll be impressed by her strong character, moreover, she is someone that you will admire if you met
her and knew her. She makes a wonderful mother and I m sure she will make a great friend. My
mother s name is Lidia Montano Ramos, she was born in La Paz, Bolivia; there she lived most of
her life, next to the side of my father who is her husband, moreover now they have 23 years
married. If you ever wanted to meet my mother, you could, it s obvious to tell her apart from a
crowd. The first thing that calls for attention is her hair, she has wavy hair, s waves mixed with
natural ringlets fighting the frizz that could be noticed for a long distance. Her hair is always in
a messy low ponytail, but when she is going somewhere elegant she frees her hair and puts it
down, you ll recognize the difference. The second point to notice is her lips, they are much the
same as a fresh coral pink, the upper lipis darker than the lower. She has a tiny scar on the right
side of the upper lip almost untraceable, however, it s most likely that you will not notice it. When
she paints her bow shaped lips, she likes the diva red. Her hair and her lips are traits that stand out
the further, she has other characteristics too, although they don t stand out as much as her hair and
lips.
Her character is one of the strongest assets she has. She treats everyone equally with respect, but if
you disrespect her, she will just simply walk away without saying a word. Even though

Analysis Of The Movie When Ulysses S. Grant And Robert...
When Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee met in the parlor of a modest house at Appomattox
Court House, Virginia, on April 9, 1865, to work out the terms for the surrender of Lee s Army
of Northern Virginia, a great chapter on American life came to a close, and a great new chapter
began. These men were bringing the Civil War to its virtual finish. To be sure, other armies had
yet to surrender, and for a few days the fugitive Confederate government would struggle
desperately and vainly, trying to find some way to go on living now that its chief support was gone.
But in effect it was all over when Grant and Lee signed the papers. And the little room where they
wrote out the terns was the scene of one of the poignant, dramatic contrasts in American History.
They were two strong men these oddly different generals, and they represented the strengths of two
conflicting currents that, through them, had come into final collision. Back of Robert E Lee was
the notion that the old aristocratic concept might somehow survive and be dominant in American
life. Lee was tidewater Virginia, and in his background were family, culture, and tradition . . . the
age of chivalry transplanted to a New World which was making its own legends and its own
myths. He embodied a way of life that had come down through the age of knighthood and the
English country squire. America was a land that was beginning all over again, dedicated to nothing

Jules Winnfield In Pulp Fiction
We all wish we were those fan favorites in movies, video games, and books but what if we in a
way are them? Just because we may not come from the same place, look alike, or even think the
same we can still connect with these characters. We can connect through the character traits we
share between each other, because any good characterhas to have some connection with us in order
for us to like them. The three fictional characters that most represent my personality are Joel for
his bravery and loyalty, Gohan for his love of nature and silence, and Jules Winnfield for his
visionary and philosophical ideas.

preaching to his partner how all of this was divine intervention and starts questioning whether or
not if what he is doing is right. The movie does not show what happens to Jules after that
incident, but we do think that he decided to retire from his gangster job and walk the Earth. Not
only in that scene, but in the last scene where we see Jules he conversates with his partner very
much about why he believes there was a reason God stopped the bullets and allowed him to keep
living. This attribute helps the character because it helps guide him through his life. At first, he
always believe saying a religious quote from the bible before shooting a man down was
something cool but that incident started making him think. It made him think about the
meaning of his quote and it ultimately helps him decide to save a life rather than just killing
them. It enables him to break free from a clouded mind and take a second to think of the
meaning of his life. I have always believed that there was more of a meaning to our lives than
just what we live. Although I am not religious as Jules Winnfield, I still believe that there are
those moments in life that is more than a simple coincidence. Growing up I started looking into
astronomy and what is out there in space but at the same time I was looking into information
about chakras and our mind and how everything is connected. It all made me wonder if there is a
greater purpose for me to fulfill and I truly believe there is just like Jules. There is a reason more

Sports Injuries in Athletes
Sports injuries are a serious thing among teenage athletes and can affect them in numerous ways.
It affects both them the players and their teammates, because there is a shortage of a player. The
biggest problem that all athletes face is getting injured in the sports they are playing especially
high school sports. When you are playing a sport the last thing on your mind is to get injured and
get out of the game. Your alternative goal is to scored and beat your opponent. Sports injuriesare
serious in school because they are not being watched or taken in serious considerations. They are
taken for granted and not particularly paid attention to. Injuries are one of the dangers in playing a
sport. It prevents you from playing for a while or sometimes never. The absolute way to bring an
injured playerback to his or her feet again is by curing them and the prevention method or
methods of avoiding getting injured again. Heeling the injured players might help them get back
on their feet but most of the times after been heeled they are not able to do what they used to do
before at a 100% they get more injured and because they might have to stay away or prevent doing
certain things . Therefore because of injuries, numerous players miss out on their favorite sport they
like to play.

The familiar, inharmonious clamour frustrates me as I struggle to maneuver my way through the
bulky chlorine water. I roll over to take a breathe and gasp shamelessly: my lungs burn with the
intake of oxygen, and the absorbed energy is not sufficient. I approach the wall and as I come off

The sight brings forth a nostalgic memory, and sequentially a profound sense of energy. My eyes

idea. I shove my confused thoughts away and concentrate on swim practice and the set intervals.
My legs flutter with a burning sensation and I relish the pain. However, the thought can t stop

myself in a play area with my back facing a wall so I was open to the children. I would
periodically look around the room, while still being attentive to what I was doing. I would
move throughout the room spending time with each child, or group of children, equally sharing
the time and attention I was giving to all the different areas of play going on. My sponsor
teacher within the first hour of being at practicum said I am so pleased to see you scanning
regularly, it s seems like a second nature to you. Keep it up and before you know it you ll grow a
third eye on the back of your head. Having previous experience working at a preschool, scanning
has become a skill I practice and do without evening knowing it. Before practicing the skill and
explaining our skills of the week to my sponsor teacher she noticed I was already doing it, which
was a real confidence booster for me and I am proud I have mastered the important skill of scanning.

Creatine Monohydrate Essay
Creatine Monohydrate
Creatine monohydrate is a body building supplement. Many athletes and trainers use it to enhance
athletic performance. College athletics are an advocate for creatine when it comes to exercising and
strength conditioning, But what is creatine? Creatine is a naturally occurring metabolite found in
red muscle tissue. It is a powerful ergogenic aid that plays an important role in energizing muscle.
Creatine increases the body s ability to do work. It is high powered and generates the muscles
ultimate energy source ATP (adenosine triphosphate) ATP produces the contractions of a muscle s
proteins. When muscles are performing work ATP is being broken down into ADP (adenosine
diphosphate) and energy is given ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Journal of Applied Physiology published a study to determine the importance of a loading
phase of creatine. In the study four separate groups were used and each group was given a different
amount of creatine. The study lasted 28 days and the muscle creatine levels were tested. The four
doses went like this: Group I 20 grams for six days and nothing; Group 2 20 grams for six days
then 2 grams per day; Group 3 3 grams per day for 28 days; Group 4 was given a placebo. After 28
days, muscle biopsies were taken and groups 2 and 3 proved that loading was not necessary to
achieve results from creatine. Groups 2 and 3 showed the same amounts of creatine increases. The
exercise that was used was not presented in Joe Wieder s article.
There have also been other studies conducted on creatine. One of the better ones was by a group
of students out in Texas. The effects of creatine on muscle power and strength indices of ten
subjects, all male, were tested. The amounts of creatine were not given but more than likely each
subject was given the same amount. The training that was used consisted of 3 consecutive 30
second Wingate bike tests with 5 minutes rest in between, and a bench press workout. For each
individual a one rep max for the bench press was taken then sets were performed at 70% of the one
rep max. Eight subjects completed the

Dual Pane Case
Dual Pane Company, founded in 2001 by John Grayson, is based on a machine he created. The
machine could remove windows from their frames without destroying the wooden panes known as
muntins and mullions. John and his wife Elizabeth are the owners of the company, as well as its
only employees. He does the actual installation of windows, while she takes care of all the
financial aspects of the company. The Dual Pane Company generally focuses its businessin the
residential market of the Boston area.

If John goes the large business route, he will be able to raise the franchising cost. This move would
really get Dual Pane s name out there, but there would also be a bigger risk. The quality that Dual
Pane has worked so hard to achieve could potentially be compromised by these larger businesses. It
would also be more difficult to successfully pitch this idea to a huge company and persuade them to
heavily invest in something that would seem small scale to them.
On the other hand, if he markets to small businesses, Dual Pane will more easily be able to keep
its reputation as a quality restoration business. The company likely would not get national
recognition, but it would be easier to franchise to individuals. It would also be easier to manage the
relationships between the franchisor and the franchisees. The main downside to this alternative is
the fact that John would have to charge a much lower price to these franchisees.
Decision
In order to keep its reputation of a small, quality business, Dual Pane will franchise to individuals
in the Massachusetts area. This will, of course, mean that Grayson will have to charge a lower
price for this franchising opportunity, but he will also be able to keep his original vision of being
all about quality. This alternative is much less risky than marketing to large businesses and with the
uniqueness of this machine Dual Pane is practically guaranteed to be a success.

Chantrea Conway Characters
Elements of Novel
The protagonist of the story is Chantrea Conway.
The kind of person the protagonist is brave and reliable.
The evidence that leads to that Chantrea is brave and reliable is that she can keep a promise like
when she hid in the magic box, so the Khmer Rouge Soldiers wouldn t kill her for being American
because she promised her grandparents to not scream or leave the box even if the Khmer Rouge
Soldier would drag them out.
The conflict that Chantrea encounters is that Chantrea is trying to reach her father s family, but she

formed a small creek at the base of the tree, and the murky water was up to Chantrea s waist. Her
torn jeans did little to protect her and she felt something long and slimy brush by her thin legs.
Her heart began to pound and her stomach twisted. She was terrified that if the creature bit her,
she would scream and alert the soldier. To her relief, the unseen animal went on its way, just as the
snake had done. Perhaps it only saw her as another root of the tree. The characters and dialogue are

Introduction Of Prenatal Care For Teenagers
Introduction to Prenatal Care for Teenagers Even though the teen pregnancy and birth rates have
dropped by one third over the past decade, teen pregnancy in the United States is a growing
problem. According to data by the National Center for Health Statistics and other official data, one
in three girls still become pregnant by the age of twenty. In the United States one million
adolescent girls become pregnant every year causing the U.S. to be the leader of the developed
world in teen pregnancy. One in four of these teen girls will have a second baby within twenty
four months and in 2010, a survey showed that only one in ten of these unwed mothers, ages
fifteen to seventeen, received child support from the father. As citizens of the United States this is
a time when we all need to pull together and help to change the future before it is too late. Many
things can cause teen pregnancy but many things can prevent it or at least slow it down such as
sexual abuse, poor life circumstances, parents attitudes, drugs and alcohol use, and exploitation by
older men. Making good decisions and responsible choices about sexual activity during the teenage
years can have immediate and lasting implications for overall healthoutcomes. How teenagers make
decisions about relationships, abstaining or participating in sex, and protecting themselves and
others from sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy is influenced by numerous factors.

Shrek Symbolic Interactionism Essay
The movie, Shrek, displays several examples of symbolic interactionism through fictional creatures.
The symbolic interactions in this movie explain the relationships between ogres and society, ogres

defined this perspective as symbols things to which we attach meaning are the keys to
understanding how we view the world and communicate with one another. Shreks first relationship

Therefore, why shouldn t we set our focus on the other devastating happenings occurring?
Throughout our country, this is a common feeling among many people. Why is domestic violence
a common concern when there are these other worries? Besides knowing these other epidemics,
there is another common thought that concludes with people thinking domestic violence is over
exaggerated: being able to determine who is actually abused and who isn t is a very difficult
question. There are many factors that play a part in deciding. Pamela Biron is an author of many
blogs that relate to dealings within a family, such as domestic violence, child abuse, alcohol
addiction, and more. Within one blog called False Allegations of Domestic Violence in Divorce
Cases , she explained many statistics and facts that either a man or women had lied about that had
to do with domestic violence. One study showed, Fathers organizations now estimate that up to
80% of domestic violence allegations against men are false allegations. Furthermore, 70% of

Many people lie because there are an incredible amount of sources that can help a victim,
including legal support, counseling, employment services, financial assistance, services for
children, or health related services. These services are easily attainable if you can prove to be a

Review Of The War On Malaria
THE WAR ON MALARIA

ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY II
OCTOBER 19, 2014 The War on Malaria
About 3.3 billion people, that is about half of the world s population are at risk of contracting
malaria (figure 1). Every year there are 250 million cases of malaria, and nearly 1 million deaths.
That amounts to 2,732 deaths per day. Out of those million people that die every year, 800,000
of them are African children under the age of 5. To control malaria three actions need to be
taken: insecticides need to be used to decrease the vector population, people have to be educated
as to how to prevent the vector from reproducing, and anti malarial drugs need to be distributed.
To understand the vector and what the vector is, scientists had to first discover what the parasite
was and how it worked. It was not until the year 1880 that French Physician Charles Laveran
discovered that Malaria was caused by a protozoan in the genus Plasmodium (Malaria, 2013)
Figure 1: Malaria endemic areas around the world. Areas where malaria transmission occurs are in
red, places that are at risk and malaria transmission occurs infrequently are in yellow, and places in
grey is where there is no malaria present (Malaria, 2010).

Relations Between India and Pakistan
Often synonymous with open hostility, relations between India and Pakistan are influenced by
numerous discordant factors. This essay will examine the primary antecedent, the Partition of India
and its bifurcation into two states. In emphasising the collective trauma and fragile nationalisms
that emerged, a connection will be established between the ensuing fear and distrust and its
manifestation into policies and actions over the past six decades. Its ramifications will be

Fears of external interference into domestic affairs, particularly the hidden hand of Pakistan, are
prominent. India s ire was aroused with confirmation of Lashkar e Taiba involvement in the 2008
Mumbai attack (Rath 2010, 16) and India has responded to the Naxalite threat in existential terms
(Tharu 2007, 96). Thence, to ameliorate its perceived insecurity, India has attempted to grasp the
position of regional hegemon (Rais 1991, 379), but has done so unsuccessfully and in the fact of
strong opposition.
Whilst India adopts a pan Asian strategy, Pakistan has singularly defined its national security
agenda in terms of protecting Muslims from a menacing India (Riedel 2008, 41). The resulting
physical and ideological fortress (Cohen 2006, 61) has endowed Pakistan with a progressively rigid
and myopic outlook. Depictions of a united Islamic community are fallacious, with Pakistan s
greatest threat being state disintegration. Almost every ethnicity, with the exception of Punjabi s,
has or had an ethno nationalist movement (Mushtaq 2009, 281). The 1971 loss of East Pakistan,
achieved partly with Indian assistance, starkly revealed not only the threat of balkanisation but also
its congruence with Indian interests. Ominously, Pakistan is now confronted with an exponentially
stronger India containing a larger number of Muslims than Pakistan itself (de Riencourt 1983, 420).

Digital Evidence And Law Enforcement Essay
Since the introduction of computer and technology, they have become the new weapon in

computers to fight crime. Nevertheless, digital evidence is information stored, transmitted, and

digital evidence is commonly associated with crimes that involve such devices, such as a computer

Character Analysis Of Hugo
Hugo, a film released in 2011, tells the story of a young boy who has had a rough life, who
meets a girl that helps guide him on his journey. Directed by Martin Scorsese, Hugo is a historical
film that is based on the life of Georges Melies, a French illusionist and film director who
contributed heavily to the early developments of cinema. The filmconnects Melies life to the
coming of age story of the main characterHugo, in a way that brings history to from textbooks and
articles to a magical cinematic experience. In the film, there isn t one single recognizable source
of narration. The narration is from an outside perspective, the story not being told by any of the
characters in the film. This is done in a way that shifts from Hugo to Isabelle to Georges giving
insight on each of the characters internal thoughts and feelings. Based on Aristotle s poetics, the
plot of the story can be broken into several elements. The hero is Hugo, a young boy living in
poverty in the early twentieth century. His life has been very rough, many of his family
members dying and leaving him alone in the world. This is Hugo s weakness, that he has
nobody. His loneliness is one of the biggest flaws in his character, because in his situation it
makes him very vulnerable. Being a young boy living in the walls of a train station is very
dangerous, and the fact that he has nobody that would be concerned if something were to happen to
him makes it worse. Before he meets Isabelle, his life consisted

Case Study On Robotics
Situation Analysis The main focus of the study is all about the use of syringe plunger hydraulics
to take effect on manoeuvring a robotic arm. Robotic arms are used in industrial robotics
nowadays. They are used to pick up and manipulate any object at a distance. Wherein it is the
biggest challenge we will encounter in this study. Robotics only managed to carry through their
precision by being large, expensive, and most likely to consume or use lots of energy and are
wasted. Nothing beats hydraulic propulsion. Using hydraulics allows the robotic arm to do refined
and precise motions. With the syringeplunger, it allows to apply pressureto the water to make each

Essay about The Slave Trade in Colonial America
The Slave Trade in Colonial America
The first blacks in the American Colonies were brought in, like many lower class whites, as
indentured servants. Most indentured servants had a contract to work without wages for a master
for four to seven years, after which they became free. Blacks brought in as slaves, however, had
no right to eventual freedom. The first black indentured servants arrived in Jamestown in the
colony of Virginia in 1619. They had been captured in Africa and were sold at auction in
Jamestown. After completing their service, some black indentured servants bought property. But
racial prejudice among white colonists forced most free blacks to remain in the lowest level of

Many slaves in those colonies worked as skilled and unskilled labourers in factories, homes, and
shipyards and on fishing and trading ships.
During the mid 1600 s, the colonies began to pass laws called slave codes. In general, these
codes prohibited slaves from owning weapons, receiving an education, meeting one another or
moving about without the permission of their masters, and testifying against white people in
court. Slaves received harsher punishments for some crimes than white people. A master usually
received less punishment for killing a slave than for killing a free person for the same reason.
Slaves on small farms probably had more freedom than plantation slaves, and slaves in urban areas
had fewer restrictions in many cases than slaves in rural areas.
Slavery in the American South
By the early 1800 s, more than 700,000 slaves lived in the South. They accounted for about a third
of the region s people. By 1860, the slave states had about 4 million slaves. Slaves outnumbered
whites in South Carolina and made up over half the population in both Maryland and Virginia.

taken away, the Indians had to move. The indians had to move to from the land that they called
their own. They had to move to cramped, small, dirty, mold filled, unnourished lands called
reservations. Including their land we also took their culture, so to speak. We made it seem like they
shouldn t embrace their culture, that doing that isn t normal .
Throughout our class readings we have come across many themes. They include the oppression and
disrespect of indigenous people. Americans have severely oppressed Indians, mostly through the
stealing of their land. Americans then force Indians to live in a place that few people would even
dare to go. Unemployment on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation fluctuates between 85 and 90
percent and The life expectancy for men is between 46 and 48 years old. (Huey 2) The land is in
poverty, to be specific, more than 90 percent of the population lives below the federal poverty

A Deeper Look Into The Lives Of Slum Dwellers
A Deeper look into the lives of Slum dwellers
Gitashu Jain
Methodology:
On visiting various underdeveloped sections of our world class capital city, I got the chance to
have a closer look into the lives of the unwarranted and at times acting as an invisible force the
slum dwellers. Having migrated from various developing regions of India, one can see the
promises of young bright India being obliterated into dark gloomy pieces because of communal
politics and corruption. It gave me deeper insights into the colossal failing of the central, state and
municipal machinery. They have failed in proper execution of laws for the most vulnerable and
downtrodden constituents of the society. On spending time in these un administered, poverty
stricken areas of Sanjay Camp, Janta Camp, Shakoorpur basti and GB road district, where we
with the help of the Pradhan (Headman of these slums), I got a chance to interact with these
people which gave me a realistic insight to their sufferings and problems, starting from
commodification of their labour to stigmatized work they are forced to perform due their caste and
social class. We conducted detailed interviews of inhabitants of every age, keeping the main focus
on pregnant and lactating women (and their children below the age of 6 years), who clearly are the
most vulnerable to maltreatment due to frustration of the men in failing to provide enough for them
poor execution of policies formulated by the government, ironically, for the

The Era Of The Common Man
The Jacksonian period has been regarded as the era of the common man , this characterization only
holds true in regard to politics. Jackson s action in economic development was little different from
when this era began. His view towards reforms were threatening and unwanting.Jackson was
relentless in his strive for presidency. Jackson lost his first presidential run to John Quincy Adamsin
1824 despite having the popular and electoral votes. The Jacksonians (supporters of Jackson)
called this event the Corrupt Bargain due to Henry Clay support of Adams after he was out of
the race. Jackson won the following election in 1828, after a war of words were exchanged
between supporters of Jackson and Adams. The Jacksonians accused Adams of being wasteful
with money, while Adams supporters accused Jackson of being a murderer in the war of 1812
and called his wife a bigamist. These accusations got to Rachel and weeks later she passed.
Nonetheless, this was still a victory for the new Democratic Republicans against the National
Republicans. Politically, the age of Jackson was a triumph for the common man since politics
were more open. Before Jackson politics were only indulged in by aristocrats and elites; With
Jackson it was open to all white male citizens. It has also be noted that before Jackson came into
office that there was expansion in voting with Ohio and other new western states. These new
constitutions made older states conform to their laws due to the fear of losing

The Theory Of Self Determination Essay
The idea of national self determination is beneficial to those living in a nation state, however, the
prerequisites required to make it available to many is too difficult to attain. Nation states are said
to be the ideal regime: a system by the people, for the people. However, things in theories do not
always work out in practice. In this paper, I will explore concepts regarding self determination
through its definitions, origins, theories, and practices, following with a number of complications
that restrict practical use and potential reasons of why the idea of self determination may be
impractical to use on a global scale.
What is national self determination and where did it originate? In order to answer this critical
question, one must understand the concepts of nations, states, and nation states. The two terms
nations and states are often used as synonyms, when in fact, they are two completely distinct
concepts. As introduced in our text, Introduction to politics and government, by Eric Mintz, David
Close, Osvaldo Croci (2016), a state is defined as an independent, self governing political
community that has the power to create rules that are binding on the population (p. 26). The three
elements of a state include territory, a population, and sovereignty (which will be discussed in
greater detail later). These are defining elements of; a state must have territory (land for its
community), a population residing within that territory (no matter how few), it must

Determination Of An Unknown Amino Acid From Titration Essay
Determination of An Unknown Amino Acid From Titration
Abstract
Experiment 11 used a titration curve to determine the identity of an unknown amino acid. The
initial pH of the solution was 1.96, and the pKa s found experimentally were 2.0, 4.0, and 9.85.
The accepted pKa values were found to be 2.10, 4.07, and 9.47. The molecular weight was
calculated to be
176.3 while the accepted value was found to be 183.5. The identity of the unknown amino acid was
established to be glutamic acid, hydrochloride.
Introduction
Amino acids are simple monomers which are strung together to form polymers
(also called proteins). These monomers are characterized by the general structure shown in figure 1.

Although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is due to the fact that at the equivalence point the number of moles of titrant equals the
number of moles of acid or base originally present (dependent on if the amino acid is in an acidic
or basic salt form). Another point of interest on a titration curve is the half equivalence point. The
half equivalence point corresponds to the point in which the concentration of weak acid is equal to
the concentration of its conjugate base. The region near the half equivalence point also establishes
a buffer region (Jicha, et al., 1991). (see figure 4).
Fig. 4
The half equivalence point easily allows for the finding of the pKa values of an amino acid. A set
pKa values can be extremely helpful in identifying an amino acid. Through a manipulation of the
Henderson Hasselbalch equation, the pH at the half equivalence point equals the pKa. This is
reasoned because at the half equivalence point the concentration of the conjugate base and the acid
are equal. Therefore the pH equals the pKa at the half equivalence point (see figure 5.)

THE BROKEN PROMISE OF RECONSTRUCTION amp;
THE NEED FOR RESTITUTION
The Civil War is the most widely written about event in American history and Reconstruction is the
most mis understood and least appreciated subject within this wider issue. Most people would
prefer to escape into the heroic exploits of the battles that were fought than deal with the difficult
social problems that the former enslaved population had to deal with.

After twenty years, ordinances legitimizing enslavement were commonplace in almost every colony
and the practice had morphed into bondage for life, or more properly, chattel slavery.5 These
practices were immoral; they had no place in a respectable society.
The pernicious tendency to view the Africans through the white supremacist lens quickly became
dominant and was a concomitant of this chattel slavery. This was punctuated by the knowledge that
Europeans were never enslaved while most enslaved people were Africans.6 The skin color of the
enslaved became a facile marker that fit in well with the culturally supremacist view of the
European colonists. IMPORTATION
In this section I try to show how the African Slave System, after gaining a foothold went on to
become the most important part of the economy of the new Nation:
As the profitability of the colonists agricultural enterprises quickly rose, it was essential to
procure a sufficient number of workers since labor shortages were a constant headache.7
Enslavement of the Indigenous Peoples had become steadily more problematic and by the 1750 s
this practice had ceased altogether.8 European workers were both expensive and tended to leave
their employers to start plantations of their own, or to return home. Therefore, a more reliable
source of economically viable labor became a necessity, and that baleful need coincided with the
rise of the Trans Atlantic Slave Tradefrom Africa.

New Zealand s Economy The country of New Zealand is an island located off the coast of
Australia. It is under the British Commonwealth, however, the monarchy does not play a role in its
government (Whitmore). New Zealand s mixed economy operations are based on free market
principles (The Treasury). Over a span of twenty five years, the country has become one of the
least regulated members of the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development after
starting as one of the most regulated. The fertile soil and excellent growing conditions coupled
with sophisticated farming methods and advanced agricultural technology... have allowed New
Zealand to rise as a force in the agricultural industry (Ministry of Business, Innovation
Employment). Though New Zealand is small in size compared to many of its trading partners,
the country has established itself as an advanced economy nonetheless. The World Bank reports
New Zealand as a high income OECD country with its total value of goods and services that were
produced by the country within a certain period of time, or gross domestic product, at 188.4
billion current US dollars in 2013. Their population count for 2014 is 4.51 million, but using their
total for 2013 gives the country a GDP per capita of 41,555.83 US dollars. As for foreign direct

Evaluation Of Integration Technologies For The Healthcare...
Evaluation of integration technologies
In an attempt to provide a clear perspective of the available technological approaches that can be
implemented in the healthcare supply chain, this section discusses the overall advantages and
disadvantages of each integration technology, in particular, message and object oriented
technologies.
Electronic data interchange
For many years, EDIFACT has been the most widely used protocol for EDI messages. Many
healthcare organisations, as well as businesses in other industries, have used the EDI approach in
order to exchange specific domain documents towards the elimination of labour intensive tasks.
Generally speaking, EDI facilitates the application to application electronic exchange of
syntactically structured data oriented documents. However, over the years it has become apparent
that healthcare communication standards, such as EDI messages, fail to effectively establish
requirements for the internal structure and architecture of communicating systems, requiring the
information in any one system to be mapped twice: once into the message standard format by the
contributing system, and once back into the internal representation of the receiving system
(Dudeck, 1998).Although the EDI approach achieves integration at the data level, it does not
provide process integration. Thus, it has been characterised by many as a complex technology
owing to the daunting task of the mapping activity. Moreover, it does not provide high flexibility,

Reflection Of My Life Essay
One s dream and aspirations to supersede in life must be stronger and greater than limitations set

the woman I am today. Please walk with me as I give you the opportunity to see the world from
my eyes:
To be the person that I am now, I had to reflect and accept accountability of my past actions. My
past is one that many would love to erase from their memory, a past, which remained dormant,
until I found myself. The steps involved in regaining myself encompassed letting go of my anger
and self pity. I had to look within myself and see my self s worth, which lead to my belief that I ran

My last year in college, changed the whole course of my life. Near the end of my junior year, I
befriended a guy, who never would become my boyfriend. I knew he was infatuated with me, so I
lead him on. He ended up stalking me and making several death threats. I never understood the
phrase in fear of your life , until then. Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) got involved but there
wasn t much they could do except file a police report and wait. This was a very frightening time
in my life and consequently I became very disconnected with life. I never provided TPD with my
stalker s name, in fear that he would kill me if I did. I moved to a different apartment complex
across town, thinking that it would make all my problems go away. He ended up finding me and
making more serious death threats against me and my family if I didn t leave Tallahassee.
I had a mental breakdown after the last death threat and I left Florida State University my senior
year, I went back home to deal with my traumatic ordeal. I quickly transferred to Florida

Analysis Of The Raft Of Medusa
What s so great about this artwork? How can a photo give a sense of emotion? This is all questions
the painting; the raft of medusa answers. Theodore Gericault uses smart angels and pigmentation of
different bland of colors to give different sense of emotion from just one painting.
The question as a novelist Julian Barnes asked, how do you turn catastrophe into art? to understand
this artwork, we must look back to the origin of the painting. The raft of the medusa was one of the
most important masterpieces of the 19th century. As it was one of the earliest well known
romantic painting. What makes it important is how the artist Theodore Gericault came to paint
such a confronting image but before I go on, there is a backstory to understand what motivated
him to pursue such a painting. Theodore Gericault came from a wealthy French family and
shows for his vocation in life to be an artist. He left France to gain some inspiration from Rome,
while away he missed all the news on the scandal of the event. The event which lead to the raft
of the medusa was the captain of the ship. Who was given the job of leading the ship not for his
skills but because of his royal connections as he was the king s representative. The captain was
more interested in impressing the soon to be governor of Senegal. The shipwreck would ve never
have happened if he did not try to impress the governor. The captain pushed the crew to move to
fast and along the shore. Bad idea as the medusa ran ashore on a

Students Disrespectful In Schools
Why are students disrespectful in schools? There is no specific factor for disrespectful students in
schools. Students are mocking teachers. You re a terrible teacher! No one cares about school.
Teachers are humiliating students in front of their peers. Consistently criticizing students for their
lack of enthusiasm, laziness, insubordination, and ungratefulness. Students fight amongst
themselves, compete against one another in an effort to achieve high marks even if it means
cheating on assignments and assessments. Unfortunately, this epidemic of disrespect needs to be
acknowledged. Why? Because the rapid changes we have witnessed in our schools in the 21st
Century has become a troubling phenomenon. As teachers, we are to provide a safe and positive
learning environment conducive to learning. We have a simple job and that is to teach students
material and to make sure they understand it. Unfortunately, we have those students who make our
lives difficult. They have complete disrespect for their teachers as well as their peers because they
are disrupting the classroom affecting the learning abilities of those students who want to be there.
Most students lean toward this type of behavior when teachers are trying to discipline them. We
enforce discipline because it is our job to make sure the learning environment stays focused. Other
students don t want to hear their classmates disrupting the lesson by talking back to teachers or
arguing with their peers.

  • 2. Controversy Of Child Pornography In the censorship arena, there are variety of controversial, hateful and inappropriate topics debated for subjectivity. Yet, child pornography became the leading rationale for censorship and was outlawed in 1982 by New York vs. Ferber (Mintcheva, p.167; Adler, p.228). Children are one of the most exposed demographics in society because they don t have autonomy and are reliant on adults. Thus, the child pornographylaw aimed to prevent sexual abuse and molestation. Amy Adler, contributor to Censoring Culture, argues that child pornographylaw is self indulgent and further exacerbates the problem by bringing it into the public eye (Adler, p. 229). She also cites taking on the gaze of the pedophile as part of the problem. By stooping to the level of a sexual predator, courts and policy makers are making the problem worse. In an arena like the arts, where nudity and vulnerability are king, this controversy over what is pornography is especially delicate. The famous photographer Sally Mann photographed her children while they grew up in rural West Virginia. The images she made showed them lying naked in fields, skinny dipping, falling down, and other every day interactions. Critics were shocked at these naked, uncensored familial portraits and considered them to be child pornography. In New York vs. Ferber, a major tenant of the child pornography law includes the lascivious exhibition of the genitals (Adler, p.230). Especially in art, however, who is to say what the ... • 3. Critical Appreciation Of The Poem The Wanderer Response to Literature: The Wanderer The Wander is an Elegy style poem that depicts the suffering, exile, and memoirs of an anonymous narrator who refers to himself differently according to what part of his life he is sharing; a Lone dweller , an Earth stepper , and the wise man and the Warrior . Although, there is still a lot of debate on whether or not there was only one narratorthroughout the poem. The Wandereris believed to have been created around the 5th or 6th century, being orally handed down from generation to generation. However, it was actually written down in the 10th century. It was then duplicated in the Exeter book, the biggest manuscript collection of Old English poetryin existence, by scribes and is preserved... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... ItВґs also believed that the earth stepper and this unspecified narrator are one in the same. These lines consist of the narratorВґs description of not only the ideal wise man, but also the ideal warrior. The placement of these ideas is interesting. The narrator begins his descriptions of the ideal wise man and warrior shortly after monologuing about his suffering and solitude. The Earth stepperВґs testimony segues into the description of the Wise man. ItВґs as if the narrator has goes through a short phase of introspection. • 4. The Characteristics And Stereotypes Of Latinos El Bandido Reports show that Latinos are the most underrepresented ethnic group in film affected by stereotypical issues shown via pictures in our heads and through watching. I concur with this information as stereotype starts from a personal level, which is definite through meditation, this does not include all the negative traits portrayed by the out group. Although we have some general stereotypical agreements within in groups that cannot change. This stereotyping is evident in a case where a foreigner defines Bandido accurately while a (North) American will involve them with laziness, being dirty and all sorts of negativity on them. These findings make me feel that Latinos and Americans will always be contrary to their filmindustry. The stereotypeon Latinos el Bandido is based not only on ethnic but also behavioral, where they are deemed violent and antisocial, different nationality, as in not belonging to the North America and psychological where they are associated with alcoholic, prostitution and being unstable. With this stereotype, Hollywood is seen as a perfect example of the filmmaking and professionalism, in a way this demeans the Latinos effort in the film. Stereotypical images are in the cinematic register where they are intentionally included to make film sale and also to be critical in the narration process. Hollywood stereotyping Latino s poet is common in many films displaying poverty and crime as part of their livelihood. Moreover, they use standard films ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay on Evaluate Different Techniques for Sampling Evidence 3.1Evaluate different techniques for sampling evidence of assessment, including use of technology There are a wide variety of techniques used for sampling the evidence of assessment which are all valuable for different reasons. Below are listed these different techniques a) Direct observation is the best way to evaluate the assessor s ability to carry out a fair and valid assessment. The observation should ideally take place in the work environment and involve the learner carrying out specific tasks as required for inclusion in the learner s portfolio of evidence. The IQA can quickly establish the effect of the assessment on the learner and can get a good impression of the rapport that the assessor has with the learner and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can be problematic within the actual workplace e) Questioning is another method of sampling evidence and will involve the questioning of both the assessor and the candidate. To ensure that the evidence has the necessary validity the questions to the learner should happen in private away from the assessor. The need for the learner to feel that they have the confidence to disclose the true picture of the assessment process is very important. The question sessions can be recorded on the necessary portfolio documentation but can add validity if they are recorded on tape or digitally and used as evidence. f) Underpinning knowledge questions can be sampled effectively as the Awarding Organisation will provide the answers which can be checked and a total can be calculated and compared with what the assessor has marked g) E portfolios are a useful tool for assessments and can be sampled remotely along with virtual assessment tools such as Skype etc. These can pose problems with validity as the assessor will need to agree the conditions before assessment to ensure that the tasks have been completed by the candidate and that there is no plagiarism which may interfere with the assessment process h) The candidates will generally be allocated an expert witness whilst working on site. Issues arose with the promotion of unity similar to any other instances in history. The colonies desperately searched for ways they could have a more organized government, which could help them to protect themselves against attacks from foreign nations. This urge to find ways to build the strength of the colonies was directly related to the numerous taxes enforced on them by Britain. These taxes were a form of compensation for a previous representation from Britain in the French and Indian War. My answer is CHNOPS or carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus ,and sulfur. These elements that are listed is the base or structure for each living organism on earth. Carbon is the most favorable structure because it has a rich chemistry. The chemical structure of the carbon atom lets it bond with other elements(including itself) in different ways. This ability to bond with elements with ease is why there are so many creatures on earth. Which is why the study of molecules that contain carbon is called organic chemistry. Out of the six elements listed earlier there are three of them are are crucial to create life. Hydrogen, oxygen, and carbon have a lot of abundance throughout the universe. Shouldn t this abundance of elements be able to create life in the universe. Yes and No! This should have created life because the six elements should have created life without a problem. Unless, the planet s ecosystem is not habitable, too hot, cold, or there weren t enough elements to create a structure. But! Do not worry, there are still some potential in other elements that can also create life. However, most life on earth is mostly carbon based and these elements that can potentially create life would not be carbon based. These other elements can create life if met with the right ... • 13. Describe My Mother I view my mother as the outmost magnificent person in my life, and I can t be more thankful to have her. I would describe my mother as a strong and independent woman, my role model; I can t think of another person that means a great deal to me. My mother is the sweetest and the trust worthiest person, but she can also be tough and deliberate. My grandparent s personalities are strict, therefore my motherwas raised in a harsh environment, this thought her to be strong and that not everything is easy in life or handed to you. I consider her as the hardest working person I ever know, consequently thanks to her hard work she achieved countless goals in her life. She would always say to me you have to work hard to achieve your dreams , I believe her. If you knew her you ll be impressed by her strong character, moreover, she is someone that you will admire if you met her and knew her. She makes a wonderful mother and I m sure she will make a great friend. My mother s name is Lidia Montano Ramos, she was born in La Paz, Bolivia; there she lived most of her life, next to the side of my father who is her husband, moreover now they have 23 years married. If you ever wanted to meet my mother, you could, it s obvious to tell her apart from a crowd. The first thing that calls for attention is her hair, she has wavy hair, s waves mixed with natural ringlets fighting the frizz that could be noticed for a long distance. Her hair is always in a messy low ponytail, but when she is going somewhere elegant she frees her hair and puts it down, you ll recognize the difference. The second point to notice is her lips, they are much the same as a fresh coral pink, the upper lipis darker than the lower. She has a tiny scar on the right side of the upper lip almost untraceable, however, it s most likely that you will not notice it. When she paints her bow shaped lips, she likes the diva red. Her hair and her lips are traits that stand out the further, she has other characteristics too, although they don t stand out as much as her hair and lips. Her character is one of the strongest assets she has. She treats everyone equally with respect, but if you disrespect her, she will just simply walk away without saying a word. Even though ... Lee met in the parlor of a modest house at Appomattox Court House, Virginia, on April 9, 1865, to work out the terms for the surrender of Lee s Army of Northern Virginia, a great chapter on American life came to a close, and a great new chapter began. These men were bringing the Civil War to its virtual finish. To be sure, other armies had yet to surrender, and for a few days the fugitive Confederate government would struggle desperately and vainly, trying to find some way to go on living now that its chief support was gone. But in effect it was all over when Grant and Lee signed the papers. And the little room where they wrote out the terns was the scene of one of the poignant, dramatic contrasts in American History. They were two strong men these oddly different generals, and they represented the strengths of two conflicting currents that, through them, had come into final collision. Back of Robert E Lee was the notion that the old aristocratic concept might somehow survive and be dominant in American life. Lee was tidewater Virginia, and in his background were family, culture, and tradition . . . the age of chivalry transplanted to a New World which was making its own legends and its own myths. He embodied a way of life that had come down through the age of knighthood and the English country squire. America was a land that was beginning all over again, dedicated to nothing much more ... The movie does not show what happens to Jules after that incident, but we do think that he decided to retire from his gangster job and walk the Earth. It would also be more difficult to successfully pitch this idea to a huge company and persuade them to heavily invest in something that would seem small scale to them. On the other hand, if he markets to small businesses, Dual Pane will more easily be able to keep its reputation as a quality restoration business. The company likely would not get national recognition, but it would be easier to franchise to individuals. SAMUEL ODEDOKUN ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY II OCTOBER 19, 2014 The War on Malaria About 3.3 billion people, that is about half of the world s population are at risk of contracting malaria (figure 1). Every year there are 250 million cases of malaria, and nearly 1 million deaths. That amounts to 2,732 deaths per day. Out of those million people that die every year, 800,000 of them are African children under the age of 5. To control malaria three actions need to be taken: insecticides need to be used to decrease the vector population, people have to be educated as to how to prevent the vector from reproducing, and anti malarial drugs need to be distributed. To understand the vector and what the vector is, scientists had to first discover what the parasite was and how it worked. It was not until the year 1880 that French Physician Charles Laveran discovered that Malaria was caused by a protozoan in the genus Plasmodium (Malaria, 2013) Figure 1: Malaria endemic areas around the world. Thence, to ameliorate its perceived insecurity, India has attempted to grasp the position of regional hegemon (Rais 1991, 379), but has done so unsuccessfully and in the fact of strong opposition. Almost every ethnicity, with the exception of Punjabi s, has or had an ethno nationalist movement (Mushtaq 2009, 281). The 1971 loss of East Pakistan, achieved partly with Indian assistance, starkly revealed not only the threat of balkanisation but also its congruence with Indian interests. • 31. Digital Evidence And Law Enforcement Essay Since the introduction of computer and technology, they have become the new weapon in committing crime, and to the burgeoning science of digital evidence, law enforcement now use computers to fight crime. Nevertheless, digital evidence is information stored, transmitted, and received in binary form that can potentially be relied on as evidence in court. Notwithstanding, digital evidence is commonly associated with crimes that involve such devices, such as a computer hard drives, external storage devices, mobile phones, among others, and are often referred to as e crimes. However, to fight e crime, law enforcement must collect relevant digital evidence for such crimes, law enforcement agencies are incorporating the collection and analysis of digital evidence, also referred to as computer forensics, into many of their infrastructures. Law enforcement agencies, such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation(FBI) place a high priority in cybercrime, and work diligently with Subcommittee s and Congress to ensure that law enforcement and the private sectors have the tools and protections to combat such crimes. However, to effectively succeed with combatting cybercrime, coordination and cooperation among all levels of government and private sector companies is crucial. • 33. Character Analysis Of Hugo Hugo, a film released in 2011, tells the story of a young boy who has had a rough life, who meets a girl that helps guide him on his journey. Directed by Martin Scorsese, Hugo is a historical film that is based on the life of Georges Melies, a French illusionist and film director who contributed heavily to the early developments of cinema. The filmconnects Melies life to the coming of age story of the main characterHugo, in a way that brings history to from textbooks and articles to a magical cinematic experience. In the film, there isn t one single recognizable source of narration. The narration is from an outside perspective, the story not being told by any of the characters in the film. This is done in a way that shifts from Hugo to Isabelle to Georges giving insight on each of the characters internal thoughts and feelings. Based on Aristotle s poetics, the plot of the story can be broken into several elements. The hero is Hugo, a young boy living in poverty in the early twentieth century. His life has been very rough, many of his family members dying and leaving him alone in the world. This is Hugo s weakness, that he has nobody. His loneliness is one of the biggest flaws in his character, because in his situation it makes him very vulnerable. Being a young boy living in the walls of a train station is very dangerous, and the fact that he has nobody that would be concerned if something were to happen to him makes it worse. Most indentured servants had a contract to work without wages for a master for four to seven years, after which they became free. Blacks brought in as slaves, however, had no right to eventual freedom. The first black indentured servants arrived in Jamestown in the colony of Virginia in 1619. During the mid 1600 s, the colonies began to pass laws called slave codes. In general, these codes prohibited slaves from owning weapons, receiving an education, meeting one another or moving about without the permission of their masters, and testifying against white people in court. Slaves received harsher punishments for some crimes than white people. A master usually received less punishment for killing a slave than for killing a free person for the same reason. Slaves on small farms probably had more freedom than plantation slaves, and slaves in urban areas had fewer restrictions in many cases than slaves in rural areas. Slavery in the American South By the early 1800 s, more than 700,000 slaves lived in the South. They accounted for about a third of the region s people. Jackson s action in economic development was little different from when this era began. His view towards reforms were threatening and unwanting.Jackson was relentless in his strive for presidency. Jackson lost his first presidential run to John Quincy Adamsin 1824 despite having the popular and electoral votes. The Jacksonians (supporters of Jackson) called this event the Corrupt Bargain due to Henry Clay support of Adams after he was out of the race. Jackson won the following election in 1828, after a war of words were exchanged between supporters of Jackson and Adams. The Jacksonians accused Adams of being wasteful with money, while Adams supporters accused Jackson of being a murderer in the war of 1812 and called his wife a bigamist. These accusations got to Rachel and weeks later she passed. Nonetheless, this was still a victory for the new Democratic Republicans against the National Republicans. Nation states are said to be the ideal regime: a system by the people, for the people. However, things in theories do not always work out in practice. In this paper, I will explore concepts regarding self determination through its definitions, origins, theories, and practices, following with a number of complications that restrict practical use and potential reasons of why the idea of self determination may be impractical to use on a global scale. What is national self determination and where did it originate? In order to answer this critical question, one must understand the concepts of nations, states, and nation states. The two terms nations and states are often used as synonyms, when in fact, they are two completely distinct concepts. As introduced in our text, Introduction to politics and government, by Eric Mintz, David Close, Osvaldo Croci (2016), a state is defined as an independent, self governing political community that has the power to create rules that are binding on the population (p. 26). The three elements of a state include territory, a population, and sovereignty (which will be discussed in greater detail later). The molecular weight was calculated to be 176.3 while the accepted value was found to be 183.5. The identity of the unknown amino acid was established to be glutamic acid, hydrochloride. Introduction Amino acids are simple monomers which are strung together to form polymers (also called proteins). These monomers are characterized by the general structure shown in figure 1. This is due to the fact that at the equivalence point the number of moles of titrant equals the number of moles of acid or base originally present (dependent on if the amino acid is in an acidic or basic salt form). Another point of interest on a titration curve is the half equivalence point. The half equivalence point corresponds to the point in which the concentration of weak acid is equal to the concentration of its conjugate base. The region near the half equivalence point also establishes a buffer region (Jicha, et al., 1991). (see figure 4). Fig. 4 The half equivalence point easily allows for the finding of the pKa values of an amino acid. A set pKa values can be extremely helpful in identifying an amino acid. Through a manipulation of the Henderson Hasselbalch equation, the pH at the half equivalence point equals the pKa. This is reasoned because at the half equivalence point the concentration of the conjugate base and the acid are equal. Therefore the pH equals the pKa at the half equivalence point (see figure 5.) This was punctuated by the knowledge that Europeans were never enslaved while most enslaved people were Africans.6 The skin color of the enslaved became a facile marker that fit in well with the culturally supremacist view of the European colonists. Many healthcare organisations, as well as businesses in other industries, have used the EDI approach in order to exchange specific domain documents towards the elimination of labour intensive tasks. Generally speaking, EDI facilitates the application to application electronic exchange of syntactically structured data oriented documents. However, over the years it has become apparent that healthcare communication standards, such as EDI messages, fail to effectively establish requirements for the internal structure and architecture of communicating systems, requiring the information in any one system to be mapped twice: once into the message standard format by the contributing system, and once back into the internal representation of the receiving system (Dudeck, 1998).Although the EDI approach achieves integration at the data level, it does not provide process integration.
