Bottled Water Consumption Should Be Banned
Have you ever had any concerns about bottled water? Do you think that bottled water consumption
should be banned? Bottled water is water packed in plastic containers and sold for human
consumption (Health Canada, 2013). Currently, the amount of bottled water consumed has
increased considerably since many people feel it is safer drinking bottled waterthan tap water
(Parent and Wrong, 2014). According to The Statistics Portal, the global sale of bottled water
took a leap from 161, 589 to 181, 608 liters from 2009 to 2011. Only in the United States, each
American citizen consumed around 32 gallons of bottled water in 2013, thus meaning an
equivalent growth of 15, 94% over 2009 (The Statistics Portal, 2014). In fact, due to good
portability, bottled water has been helpful in both simple and complex situations such as daily
exercises and natural disasters. Even though having those few considerable advantages, bottled
water still have been less beneficial; especially due to the negative impacts in the social, health and
environmental fields.
In contemporary society, bottled water consumption has become more attractive and popular.
While in 2009 were only sold 161,589 million liters of bottled water, in 2011 approximately 181.61
million liters were sold all over the world (The Statistics Portal, 2014). In this context, attributing
that significant growth of bottled water commercialization is consequence of a successful
marketing should not be considered a disposable

Cell Organelles And Structures
tion of Cell Organelles
Cells are surrounded with a boundary known as the cell surface membrane and as well as holding
the cell together, being semi permeable, it controls the movement of materials across it. Within the
cell are a number of structures each which have specific functions. These structures are known as
organelles. The cell surface membrane and the membranes of any of the membrane bound
organelles described below are made of the same material, a double layer of phospholipid
molecules. Within the cell surface membrane, the intracellular space known as the cytoplasm,
contains all the organelles and a fluid known as cytosol. Within the cytosol is a network of
microtubules and fibres called the cytoskeleton. This cytoskeleton s main functions are to give
support to the cell helping to maintain its shape and aid the movement of organelles. Most cell
organelles and structures are common to both animal and plant cells but there are some
differences as outlined in the table below and as seen in fig. 1 and fig. 2.

The Pros And Cons Of Aeronautical Drafting
Aeronautical Drafting and what makes it unique Aeronautical Drafting is unique compared to other
drafting jobs. Aeronautical Drafting is unique to me because I feel that the amount of
responsibility that an Aeronautical drafter has with his/her job is considerably more than that of a
civil or mechanical drafter. In most cases a civil or mechanical drafter does not design object that
will impact people s lives the way that designing a plane or missile can. education Aeronautical
drafting requires education just as any other drafting job out there. Anybody can download a CAD

position. An Aeronautical drafter should have advanced mathematics,

Glorification In Death Essay
Glorification in Death
The two pieces of art Standard of Ur (c. 2600 B.C.E.) and Sarcophagus of Junius Bassus (c. 359
C.E.), both by unknown artists, were ceremonious pieces in their time, and captivating works of
art in ours. While the artists are unknown, their work is indicative of the time period in which
they lived. Religious imagery and depiction of stories were subjects many artists pursued,
especially in the death of their leaders. The sarcophagus was made for a member of the senatorial
family, Junius Bassus, this amazing sculpted sarcophagus depicts multiple religious scenes and
imagery. The Standard of Ur is detailed with the inlaid design, it is called a standard due to how it
was found lying on the shoulder of a man in the corner ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Standard of Ur is a small trapezoidal box whose two sides and end panels are covered with
figurative and geometric mosaics found in the grave of King Ur Pabilsag. The mosaics on the
Standard depict life in early Mesopotamia, one side dubbed the War Side and the other the Peace
Side, tell stories that read from the bottom to top of the Standard (The Standard of Ur. n.d.). The
top register of mosaics on each side depicts a king, who is exaggerated in size to show the figure
in a larger scale than others. The Standard depicts the two most significant pieces of early
Mesopotamian culture: the warriors who protected the people, secured access to water, natural
resources and the King who served as an intermediary between the people and the gods. This
artifact is part of the Early Dynastic Period which continued many earlier trends with its art
marking an emphasis on leaders, gods, and roles of the people, The Standard of Ur continues this
trend with the larger than life depiction of the King and brings to light a representation of life at the
time while at war and

The Effects Of Media Violence And Violence On Children
Violence in the media is a growing concern on whether or not it affects children. The media starts
portraying violence at a very young age in many children s shows and many times children
prefer the television show with more action. There is also the monkey see, monkey do factor at
a young age because a child might see something on tv and try to copy it in real life after they
see the cartoon character was okay. Many people believe that media has an effect on kids and
adolescents, but it s hard to determine whether or not media leads to a child s aggressionand how
violent American media really is. To start, the media in the U.S is much more violent compared to
other countries. Due to this fact, many people struggle to understand whether or not there is a
connection between media violenceand aggression in children. There have been many studies
done on whether or not the media has any sort of effect on aggression and violence in children.
American television and movies provide many younger people with continuous violent content. A
review made by the American Psychological Association showed that the average child or
teenage views about 10,000 rapes, murders, and aggravated assault on television per year alone
or 200,000 by the time a child reaches their teenage years (Hopf, W). This number would be even
higher if the child focuses on watching only certain channels and programs that might contain
more violence compared to others. One research study showed that 70% of prime time shows
included some form of violence and 90% of children s programs include some violence and the rate
of violence seemed to be consistent (Bushman, B.J).
The National Television Violence Study looked at violence on broadcast and cable television which
showed that nearly 80% of premium cable channels contained violence and less than 20% of the
public broadcasting channels contained violence. Another study done by the National Television
Study showed that violence on television is frequently glamorized, meaning the violent acts were
done by the good guys. Violence on television is frequently sanitized, meaning half of the violent
crimes committed show no physical harm or pain to the victim. Violence on television is often

The Institution of Slave Trade Essay
The Institution of Slave Trade
The institution of slave trade and the actual experiences of slavery that occurred in the Caribbean
were to form a monumental part of that region s culture, society, and everyday interactions, both in
the past and in the present. The culture that is present today in the Caribbean is the result of many
different influences varying from those introduced by ruling colonial countries, to influences that
the slaves stressed, and even from brand new colonies being developed. The diverse and
multifaceted culture that is present today is a direct result of the institution of slavery.
The reason that forced all of these cultures to become intermixed and entangled was a result of
slavery, but more specifically a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact many historians to this day debate over the question of whether or not the plantations even
made any profit over their period of existence.
More and more pirates emerged as the demand for sugar continued to increase, and therefore more
and more slaves were also needed. After these pirates attacked slave ships en route to the
Caribbean, they would take the slaves and trade them in the Caribbean for sugar, molasses, and
rum and make their way back to Europe top begin the process all over again.
Because these pirates did not differentiate between the countries ships that they attacked
(excluding their own), they began some of the first mixing of slaves and cultures into one group.
Often times they would take the non black deckhands of the attacked ship and either make them
slaves as well, or assign them to deck duty upon their own ship. This general small scale mixing
was the beginning to what was to ensue on a much larger scale in the very near future.
Another area that began to increase the tendency for cultural and social mixing was the fact that as
more and more pirates sailed the sea, counties began to send less and less of their commissioned
trade ships. As fewer and fewer of these countries vessels made contact with their various plantation
colonies in the Caribbean, their cultural influence on them

Video Relay Service Executive Summary
This article focuses on the stressors that interpreters often face when interpreting in a Video Relay
Service setting. Because of the stress that these interpreters face, this leads to burnout, which is
equivalent to emotional exhaustion. There are many different reasons for the increase of stress in
Video Relay Service interpreting. This article surveyed 424 interpreters who worked, or are
currently working for a Video Relay Service. The survey consisted of three sections, which
included rating the severity of stresslevel from twenty possible stress factors, three questions
about the interpreter s experience working at a Video Relay Service, and demographic questions.
The article begins with a brief description of what Video Relay Services are, as well as what Video
Remote Interpreting is. The article also gives a definition of the term burnout, and... Show more

I knew what the Video Relay Service was, but I never realized that interpreters in this setting
could experience such high levels of stress that could eventually lead to a burnout. In the past, I
knew that interpreters working in settings such as legal or mental health experienced levels of
stress, but I never took into consideration the stress that interpreters working in Video Relay
Service settings face. Since Video Relay Services are relatively new, most people do not realize
the complexity of this setting. Interpreters must interpret everything, and some information could
be extremely uncomfortable or personal. The information in the calls could have a negative
impact on the interpreter, and be extremely emotional or go against the interpreter s beliefs.
Interpreters also may have to interpret a 911 call, which I never even thought of before. A 911
call is stressful in itself, and the interpreter has to make sure he or she delivers an accurate
interpretation because if they do not, it could be life or death for the individual needing to make

The Characters Of Maturity In John Updike s A P
In the short story A P, Sammy the main protagonist how he changes from a childish teen to a
person that stands up for what he believe is right. The theme in the story that stood out to me the
most was maturity. This story is a coming of age how Sammy grows though out the story.
Sammy makes an immature chose that he believes is the right to do. But, Sammy good action
goes unnoticed by Queenie and her friends. As a result he is left to deal with his chose that he
has made. In A P, John Updike shows that Sammy s immaturity stems from his crude personality,
sexist beliefs, and irresponsible attitude. To Start, Sammy first displays crudeness throughout the
story is he demonstrates little respect for experience and age. On one instance, he claims the
fifty year old woman, who yells at him for ringing her crackers up twice. While he is gauging at
the girls, is a witch ... [who] if she d been born at the right time they would have burned her over
in Salem. He should have some respect for her, not only because of the principle that she is a
elder but she is also a women. Sammy claims that the only charastics between him and Stokesie ,
is that Stokesie has two babies chalked up on his fuselage. His rude reference to Stokesie s
manliness and his failure to acknowledge his life experience displays Sammy s complete
immaturity. When Sammy makes the impulsive choice to quits his job, and speaks rudely to his
boss Lengel. It is only after Sammy has quit and openly deny Lengel that

The Run By Wanda Coleman Analysis
To begin, Wanda Coleman shows us when a young boy s mom calls him hard to look at. We hear
this through dialogue between his mother and aunt. While the main character, Buzz, and his
cousin were in California, they were playing a game and overheard some disturbing words by
Buzz s mother. Buzz previously had great respect for his mother and was a happy, fun kid. A
turn of events changed his point of view and made him see his mother in a mean, cold view. We
start to see some prejudice when Buzz s mom said He s my favorite of the boys. He s so light
skinned and look at that good straight hair. But as the conversation is progressing, so is the
hurtfulness of his mother s words. The final breaking point for Buzz is when his mom says I m
so glad this baby didn t turn out black and ugly like Buzz As we could see through the dialogue,
Buzz faced prejudice from no one but his own mother. We can infer from BUzz s later actions of
personality change and crying in the bathroom. We can see how close prejudice can hit home, and
even be at home.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of Paulo Freire s The Banking Theory Concept...
In the essay The Banking Concept of Education, Paulo Freire creates the argument that teachers
simply deposit knowledge into students and the students then only store the deposits, without
having any input of their own. He says that the student records, memorizes, and repeats these
phrases without perceiving what four times four really means.... (318).
The teacher teaches and the students are taught; the teacher chooses and enforces his choice, and
the students comply; the teacher chooses the program content, and the students (who were not
consulted) adapt to it. Those are only some of the points made by Freire in the banking theory.
Although Freire is talking about education, this theory can also be applied to modern day
advertisement. Companies plaster advertisements anywhere they can, from billboards to television
screens, telling viewers what they need to look like, act like, be like, and talk like, while the
viewers simply take in that information and conform to it.
In this Sisley advertisement, two models are snorting what would be expected to be cocaine, but
instead it is a white dress. The words Fashion Junkie are printed underneath the brand name. The
bright white of the dress creates a contrast with the pitch black background, creating an atmosphere
of darkness. Additionally, both models are caked with heavy eye makeup, and the model on the
right has her eyes rolled back giving the appearance of being high. This Sisley advertisement uses

Van Gogh Essay examples
Vincent Willem van Gogh was born on 30 March 1853 in Zundert, a village in the south of the
Netherlands. His father was the protestant minister of the place, but three of his father s brothers
were art dealers, and so it is only natural that Vincent became an apprentice at the shop of his uncle
Vincent van Goghin The Hague. His uncle had become a partner in the firm of Goupil amp; Cie,
and after having worked in The Hague for four years Vincent was sent to other branches of the
Goupil firm, first in London, then in Paris.
During the years in London and Paris, Vincent had developed an intense love for the Church and a
desire to follow in the footsteps of his father. In England ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

His first drawings from Etten are still very clumsy, but in a few months a great improvement is
noticeable, and the progress becomes amazing as soon as he had settled in The Hague (after a
row with his father about his refusal to go to church at Christmas). Here he had some help from
a very good painter, called Anton Mauve, who also gave him some painting lessons. In the two
years that Van Gogh spent in The Hague (1882 83), he produced some two hundred drawings,
most of which are very characteristic figure studies, either after the woman who shared his life
in The Hague, Sien Hoornik, or after men and women from an old people s home, but there are
also excellent landscapes, such as the views of the gardens and meadows behind his house. One
of the most famous of his figure studies is the seated nude, titled Sorrow, for which Sien had sat
as a model. This portrait, of which he also made a lithograph, is typical for what his ideal in
drawing was; he wanted to achieve more than mere technical perfection: his real aim was
expression. He wanted to express the misery of the poor people with whom he was surrounded,
and also their dignity. He admired the wood engravings of The Graphic, buying and collecting as
many as he could, especially its quot;Heads of the People, quot;

Ancient Roman Art Of Entertainment
Ancient Roman Entertainment The art of entertainment held many significant influences within the
Ancient Roman society. Though it is known that certain means to achieve such spectacles were
vicious and cruel, it ultimately satisfied the Roman peoples need for pleasure and excitement.
Public displays varied from chariot races, musical and theatrical performances, to the more
gruesome acts of wild beast hunts, gladiatorial games, and public executions. Most of the Romans
daily leisure activities still remain in the realm of common recreational activities we still perform
today, such as swimming, hunting, fishing, and even gambling. While the inner city state provided
nearly all public entertainment events, citizens held their own interpretations beyond the outer city
territories. Every distinguishable form of entertainment within the society held distinct and
important influences throughout the ancient Roman culture, regardless of how they were formed
or who cultivated them. Displays of mass public entertainment took on a number of different forms,
from festivals such as ludi Megalenses, ludi Ceriales, to ludi Circenses, (chariot racing in the circus)
Venationes (games with animals, also in the circus, but later they took place in the amphitheater as
well) and theatrical performances, ludi Scaenici (Potter and Mattingly, 206). Although the games
were religious in origin, they gradually acquired secular and political importance, becoming more
prominent as the annual

Sterling Marking Products Ing.
PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT:
We need to determine whether Sterling possesses the key success factors necessary to expand
internationally into the UK. Our analysis will evaluate the feasibility of Sterling s international
expansion via exporting, licensing and branching.
SITUATION ANALYSIS:
Market Segmentation (SWOT)
Strengths
Significantly higher market demand than in Canada (162k 192k vs. 87K)
Weaknesses
Barriers to entry include, high number of competitors, high exchange rate, high initial capital
requirements, cultural differences among sales people (perhaps not as aggressive as in Canada,
resulting in lower sales)
Lack of current Sterling brand identity
Development of bad reputation
Lack of die and embosser sub assembly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sterling will fail to achieve higher production and revenues. Sterling s presence in the UK market
would remain extremely low with a total number of Mark Maker units sold equaling 3000.
Additionally, Sterling s reputation would continue to be severally damaged as a result of poor die
manufacturing by Jordan, which could potentially harm Sterling Mark Maker s brand identity in
other parts of the world.
Exporter
Important aspect to keep in mind is that under this scenario Sterling is assuming that it will
become the sole provider of Mark Makers in the UK. It is irrational to expect to dominate the
entire market upon entry. While Sterling would be able to meet UK s demand, it would face some
fearce competition especially from UK s top seal producers, which include Jordan and Bolsom,
who have very loyal customers. Furthermore, duty, taxes and other regulatory exporting barriers
would significantly lower Sterling s potential revenues. On the positive side, Sterling would not be
giving up its core competency (computer technology) and the threat of patent duplication resulting
in a potential domestic branch failure would not exist. Additionally, Sterling would be able to test
the market with its problem without high risk exposure.
Licensing
This option possesses a threat to one of Sterling s core competencies, which is its state of the art
computer technology. It would not be in Sterling s best interest

Socratic Reflective Report
From time segment 4:00 to 5:10 (video 1), I use Socratic questioning to promote deeper level
thinking and understanding about standing waves in one medium. During this time segment, I
asked a student to tell me what his data suggested. The student responded that his data suggested
that the wave speeds should be equal. His response was accurate; however, I had him expand the
answer by asking him to tell me why his wave speeds were supposed to be the same. The student
thought about it and realized that the medium a long spring was always the same; this made his
answer better, and he then understood that waves in the same medium propagate with the same
speed regardless of frequency and wavelength changes. I took advantage of the situation and...

If I hand out different questions to each group so they can address them during the presentations, a
variety of perspectives will ease student understanding of the standing waves concept; students
would be required to take notes and to include them in their lab reports. This is a great idea because
collaboration significantly improves critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills.
The academic performance benefits of collaborative and cooperative learning have been known for
decades because Robert E. Slavin suggested, back in 1980, that students engaged in cooperative or
collaborative learning perform better academically than students learning through traditional lecture
methods of instruction; his results are still supported today. In addition, Bruce Joyce corroborates
that learning through group investigations emphasizes social development, academic skills, and
personal understanding (2015). Based on these, it is safe to assume that engaging students in
collaborative presentations will enhance their learning and will help them progress towards meeting
the learning targets. This will also focus the lesson more on the students and less on

Different Kinds Of Polymers And Polymers
A polymer is a large molecule that is made from many small repeating chemicals called
monomers. In the Greek language, polymer literally means many parts. Polymers are being used
more and more in medical devices, such as drug delivery, screws, plates, fixation pins, suture
anchors and many other applications. Some of the most useful polymers for medical uses are
poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and poly(glycolic acid) (PGA). They are useful in medicine because of the
fact that they can degrade within the body to lesser components that will cause very minimal
negative effects. Scientists have found many different ways to control the degradation of these two
polymers. Combining two or more different kinds of monomers during polymerformation is called
copolymerization. Changing the amount of different kinds of monomers during
copolymerization of either poly(lactic co glycolic) (PLGA) or PLA can change degradation
characteristics. [2] For example, combining lactic acid and glycolic acid to make PLGA will

Symptoms And Treatment Of Kartagener s Syndrome
Kartagener s syndrome is an autosomal recessive disorder affecting the cilia within the body.
Autosomal recessive means that one or more of both the parent s genes responsible for encoding
the cilia s structure are mutated. This essay will focus on the etiology, clinical manifestations and
anatomic alterations while also exploring diagnostic and treatment modalities. Cilia are the tiny
hair like structures found in many organ systems including the respiratory and reproductive
systems. It was diagnosed by a Swedish physician Manes Kartagener in 1933 (). Since Kartegner s
syndrome is a autosomal recessive disorder each child of the affected parents have a twenty five
percent chance of developing the syndrome. According to Zariwala, it is estimated that in the
United States, there are 12,000 to 17,000 people who have the condition (Zariwala). Kartagener s
syndrome often presents as a newborn suffering from mild to moderate respiratory distress. As the
neonate transitions into extrauterine life, tachypnea and the need for supplemental oxygen is often
apparent. Many babies affected by the disease also have persistent crackles or rhonchi when
auscultating their chest. Some patients may also have an wheezes similar to patient s with asthma
(Bergström, Sten Erik). This is caused by the inability for the neonate to clear the secretions from
their airway. When performing a physical assessment of the chest you will often find that there is a
hyper resonant percussion note, as well

What Is The Use Of Ethos In Hillary Rodham Clinton s...
At the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women, Hillary Rodham Clinton delivered her
speech on Women s rights. This Conference took place on September 5, 1995, in Beijing China.
The purpose of this speech is to raise awareness about the struggles that women face, all over the
world, every day. Clinton gives a very strong speech attached with several emotions, and
information to support her ideas. She played an important role in the public not only then but now
as well. Clinton emphasizes the importance of women s rights all throughout the speech. She builds
her speech on emotion. Clinton uses this conference as an opportunity to, as she says, come

Pathos is an appeal to emotion, and is a way of convincing an audience of an argument by
creating an emotional response. Clinton uses this idea to get the attention of the audience. She
takes an emotional point of view to approach the topic. When listening to the speech, as a
female, I found it easy to relate to the points she is making. One thing that really grabbed my
attention when listening was when she said, Women comprise more than half the world s
population, 70% of the world s poor, and two thirds of those are not taught to read and write (2).
To me it was very shocking that women makeup more than half of the world s population, yet
still lack basic fundamentals of everyday life. For there to be that many women in the world,
there are still so many that are suffering and so many that do not have control over their own
lives, and that truly breaks my heart. As Clinton says, We are the primary caretakers for most of
the world s children and elderly. Yet much of the work we do is not valued not by economists, not
by historians, not by popular culture, not by government leaders (2). This shows that even if you

The Negative Impact Of Immigrants
Immigrants create an engine of economic prosperity, says the 43 Governor of Florida. While
being only 13% of the population, Immigrants encompass 16% of the labor force, thus adding to
our gross domestic product or GDP. Some People may think that immigration has a negative
impact on our economy. These people believe that by Immigrants having a high employment

of the largest and most diverse agricultural communities. With approximately 90,000 acres of
land, local farmers produce crops, live stock and dairy products. By doing so they make about

The End of the Republic
Caesar, Pompey, and Crassus joined forces to form a triple leadership called the First
Triumvirate. The rulers of Rome s states and colonies suspected that one man would soon emerge
as the complete ruler. Antipater, ruler of Idumea, played one ruler against the other to seek favor.
Crassus invaded Jerusalem and stole the temple treasure while war broke out between Pompey
and Caesar. Antipater sided with Pompey until Pompey was defeated, and then switched his
loyalty to Caesar. Caesar abolished the five districts and named Antipater procurator of all. Caesar
became governor of the southern strip of Gaul, which Rome had annexed some sixty years earlier.

After new victories over former troops of Pompey in Asia Minor, North Africa, and Spain, he
returned to Rome in triumph. Less than a year later, on the Ides of March, he lay stabbed to
death on the floor of the Senate at the foot of Pompey s statue, the victim of sixty senators who
thought of themselves as heroic tyrannicides. Caesar s friend, Anthony, defeated Caesar s
enemies in northern Greece. He then named Antipater s sons, Herod and Phasael, as tetrarchs
(rulers of fourths) of Galilee. (Packer) When the Parthians invaded Syria and Palestine to aid a
Hasmonean attempt to regain power, Herod fled to his fortress at Masada on the western shore
of the Dead Sea. His older brother, Phasael, was captured and committed suicide. Herod traveled
to Rome, where the Roman Senate named him king of Judea. Anthony and his troops finally
overpowered the Parthians and their Seleucid allies, and Anthony settled in Jerusalem. The strain
of imperial expansion was so great that Rome took in no new territories for least fifty years after
Caesar s birth. Rome ruled most of Greece, Syria, Judea, and North Africa. Only one Greek

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Ambextrous
What are the advantages and disadvantages of Ambidextrous and Sinistral in a dexterous world?
Throughout the history, there are a lot of debates about which is right handed or left handed, even
ambidextrous better. This issue has been argued and resulted in many sides by not only scientist
but also psychologist, because it decides to succeed in life. In the following essay, the benefits and
the drawbacks of this problem will be discussed.
Let s begin by looking at some definitions. Sinistral people are left handed dominance, which means
they prefer to write and manipulate with left hand. While ambidextrous people are able to do tasks
equally well with both hands. According to Carey (Right Handed or Left, n. d), the survey found

An engagement in a gruesome ethnic cleansing must be treated as a felony, considering the amount

Not given a single international treaty that defines and specifies the crime of ethnic cleansing, we
should refer to customary law (or treaties codified correspondingly) to rule this criminal. However,

Harris quoted another author to say, these linguistic and stylistic considerations, when weighed
against the undoubted resemblances between the first 20 chapters and chapter 21, it offers no
sufficient information that would lead one to believe that chapter 21 was written by any other
author. Harris contends that most scholars, do not make the decision for or against the identity of
the authorship based on the stylistic or linguistic evidence, but rather, that argument is made on the
basis of the content or logical argument flow. Harris uses the knowledge of other scholars
regarding chapter 21 of the Gospel of John. He highlights another scholar when viewing the idea
if chapter 21 was just an addendum to the Gospel of John or is it an item of necessity. He quotes
S. Smalley to say this, Smalley demonstrates that chapter 21 is not as much of an addendum as
some believe, and that it does in fact provide a necessary conclusion to the Fourth Gospel, which
does not merely end with the confession by Thomas, but offer a repetitive emphasis that the

Persuasive Essay On Cyber Bullying
According to a study from the Pew Research Center, 92% of American teens go online to post,
like, comment, tweet, and re tweet at least a hundred photos a day. Preadolescents between the
ages of 9 15 primarily use social media websites as a portal to communicate with past friends, find
new ones, and to post about their day. However, the use of these sites such as Facebook, Twitter,
and YouTube etc. can put young kids at risk of being bullied online, stalked by predators and
pedophiles, and subjected to inappropriate pictures and videos. The truth is today youths lack the
basic understanding of the dangers that lurk within social media, and therefore should not be
allowed to use them until they can fully comprehend all the risks attached to using these sites.
A growing issue kids in America between the ages of 9 15 deal with today while using social media
sites is online bullying, also known as cyberbullying. It is a known fact that bullying can start in
school, and continue online. Young adolescents that use social media to harass their peers, use
them because they feel that it is the easiest, and the most effective way to torture their target
without getting caught. Based off a recent study on cyberbullying in 2014, it states that 52% of
young adults have reported being bullied online by a member of their class (Cyber Bullying
Statistics 2014, n.d.). Peer on peer online harassment is a serious issue that can come with some
very upsetting consequences like suicide, or retaliation that can change the lives of everyone
around them. In a story like Grace K. McComas a 15 year old Glenelg High student from
Baltimore who committed suicide on Easter morning of 2012 after being cyberbullied by her
peers for months (Ames, n.d.). Also the story about Noel Estevez, a 14 year old boy from New
York who killed his abuser by stabbing him 3 times on July of 2014, are some examples of how
bullying on social media websites can negatively affect young adults today. Kids should be banned
from using social media until they understand that the comments and posts that they put online can
often come with consequences that can take their life, or the life of their victims.
Today s youth also face the risk of being stalked by

Theme Of Symbolism In Young Goodman Brown
Symbolism within Young Goodman Brown Within many Gothic works, symbolism is profoundly
used, especially in the tale of Young Goodman Brown written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Was Faith
his innocent companion or his trust in his religion? Why does Faith wear pink ribbons, innocence
much like that of a child or a deep symbolic meaning? Deception is yet another symbol within this
tale, because not everything is as it seams. By Faith, representation of colors, and deception,
Hawthorne demonstrates Gothic symbolism within his tale of Young Goodman Brown. Faith is trust
and belief in someone or something, mainly within religious practices. However, Faith has also
become a popular name. Within the passage, Faith is the name of Goodman Brown s wife. In the
beginning, Faith desperately begs Brown to stay at home instead of departing on the journey for
the reason that Faith was timid and scared to death. However, as most men do, he does not listen
and went on his expedition anyways; he left his dear Faith behind. By leaving his wife Faith,
Brown also leaves behind his actual faith in God on his journey in to the forest (Stoehr 393).
Therefore, in his short story Hawthorne symbolizes Brown s wife as his own faith. By leaving her,
it demonstrates him leaving not only his wife, but his faith.
Pink is an innocent hue of color, is it not? In addition to being a symbol within the passage,
Goodman Brown s wife Faith wears pink ribbons in her hair. At first glance, pink is a

Throughout history, crime literature has been one of the most popular genres to reach the masses.
Ranging from last words of criminals sentenced to death to sermons about crime and religion, crime
stories have presented criminals to the masses in different lights and with different opinions. Some
condone their treacherous acts in favor of describing their libertine lives; others outright condemn
their crimes and lifestyles. However, no matter the purpose of the writer, most crimeaccounts have
the same effect: they make criminals likable to people.
Criminals are, by definition, people who do not conform to society s norms and values. In many

Analysis Of Tongues By John Lyons
Out of curiosity, two friends decide to sneak through the back door of a recently deserted old
mansion. They explore in silence for fear of the unknown. The first person ahead constantly looks
back at the second person. What is bound to go through the second person s mind? Is it unsafe
ahead? Is something wrong? What is the person ahead trying to communicate? That is an example
of how a horsewould feel when led by a human who looks back at him. Remember, horses rely on
good leadership for survival. So, with the human constantly looking back, it tells the horse that the
person is not safe to follow. The human is not a leader. Leadership is guiding another with

Humans typically think of horses as just animals. Firstly, horses are intelligent creatures with
different personalities, abilities, and sensitivities. Humans should realize that each horse has a
different need and that each training requirement is different. In the second place, people often
comment that their horses are too senseless to need a choice. A while back, I read a story about
a mare who was dying from fighting an illness and exhaustion. Before she died, she walked for
days across exposed moors leading her foal to the safety of a farm where she died less than
twenty four hours later. She died after knowing her foal was safe. Does that sound like a senseless
horse? A horse with that much intelligence, to have no choice during training? It is inconceivable.
Horses are not incapable of understanding communication; it is up to the human not to send out
mixed signals. In the third place, when the human sends the horse away during equine training,
the person is giving the horse a choice. Either the horse will stay away or come back to safety.
When the person gives the horse a choice, the horse is very willing to work. Another example is
when a horse is standing next to the human, and the horse starts to bump the person with his head;
signs of trying to dominate the human, the person will move the horse away. The first inclination
of the animal is to come back where the person is

prolonging this idea into the brains of millions. Television shows and radio broadcasts are most
commonly to blame for much of these blonde hair stereotypes. These media outlets have
especially taken a certain comedic point of view for portraying the role of blondes in society.
People try to define blondes by using derogatory terms like stupid, moronic, and brainless, but little
do they know that hair color has absolutely no effect on the way a person thinks or... Show more

Extensive media sources, as well as literary sources, have been notorious for establishing a
certain stereotype of an individual based on physical appearance. This image centers on ones
weight, height, hair color, and overall physical beauty. It is reported that these particular
attributes may affect ones personal career. No one knows quite why this is the case, but there
have been several studies that involve these works, linking whether there is a direct correlation
with these results or if it comes down to a discriminative nature. Among some of the most
interesting studies, are the ones that deal with bias in the workplace. According to a journal
from Labour Economics, Blonde women with no work experience earn 6% 9% less than their
non blonde counterparts (Dechter 2015). The findings show that blondes can have positive, as
well as negative, effects in the workplace. The stronger negative effect of blonde hair color is
commonly apparent in sales (Dechter 2015). This theory has proven to be true by the sheer
presence of customer discrimination, thus showing a lack of blondes in the sales profession
(Dechter 2015). Both negative and positive preferences for blondeness are in line with the
prejudices of the blonde stereotype , which attributes a series of positive and negative
characteristics to young blonde women but not to young blonde men (Dechter 2015). Based on a
study in the UK in 2006, scientists analyzed 500 CEOs and discovered that blondes were very
underrepresented compared to men and women with other hair colors (Dickinson 2012). A separate
study done in 1996, concluded that after the subjects displayed headshots in their resume during a
job interview, blondes were greatly undermined (Dickinson 2012). Although all the resumes were
identical, the blonde applicants were rated as less competent

When I Was In The Middle School, The Physics Teacher...
When I was in the middle school, the physics teacher introduced triboelectrification by adopted an
example inversely stroking animals fur can generate electricity. Unlike a typical student who were
good at science, my mind subconsciously wandered to an animal power plant: thousands of workers
were stroking cats to generate electricity. However, my identity was the math TA; my second
romantic self was a secret throughout.
I still remember my first dress design at the age of 5. It was made of lake blue cloth, some leftover
material from my grandma s coat; a floor length bubble skirt with a strapless top. I could not
control a needle at that age, so I used double side tap to directly stick the dress on a Barbie Chelsea.

This fact leads a funny situation: most people will work in irrelevant fields after they graduate.
But situation are different in America. I have seen students who would spend a whole day in art
studios or try their best to raise fund for spontaneous math seminar. I started to question myself:
studying math or economics could provides me various decent career possibilities, and my math
grade is not bad, but is math truly my loved Mr. Right?
I gradually realize that, compared with other math majors around me, I kind of lack the enthusiasm
that they have to detailedly seek deeper principles behind every conclusive formula. I constantly
regard math as a tool to educate me how to comprehend and think critically. Undoubtedly I enjoy
working on math, but if let numbers and computing dominate my future, will I be totally regretless
or incessantly imagine another life composed with art? I believe I should experience the second
situation because of my college experience so far.
At first, I chose Fordham because of its location. During my freshmen year, I found out its
academic difficulty is not challenging enough and decided to transfer. Universities like Vanderbilt
became my targets because of their well known academic reputation. The offer took me away from
New York City to Nashville, a city of music but not art. This city provides few high standard art

Epilogue To Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
We barely managed to escape in time if it hadn t been for Sophie I wouldn t have made it. She
pulled me through that leygate thing and we went from Ojai, California to the church of
SacrГ© Coeur in Paris, France. We ended up in a supply closet I figured there would be alarms
but Flamel didn t listen. As we frantically tried to find a way out he managed to set off two more
alarms. As if things couldn t get any worse this big creature made out of wax appeared. I believe
Flamel called it a a tulpa Scatty seemed surprised when flamel said that. It honestly scared me
when Sophie turned and screamed causing the monster to melt. I don t like her having these powers

The World s Columbian Exposition
In 1893, The World s Columbian Exposition was held in Chicago to celebrate the 400th
anniversary of Christopher Columbus s arrival in the New World and to show how America has
grown and progressed since then. In conjunction with the world fair, was the Parliament of the
World Religions, an event displaying non Christian religions and where they were able to speak
on behalf of their own religion. However, even though the world fair was hosted on a total of
690 acres of land, not a single one of those acres were dedicated to Native American Religion

The Great Awakening occured in the spring and summer of 1735 associated with a revivalist
preacher and Congregationalist Protestant of the name Jonathan Edwards. Though their is great
debate around the exact effect and correlation the so named Great Awakening had on the cause of
the American Revolution, many did and still believe today that it was The Great Awakening that
got people ready for the revolution and without it, the American Revolution would have never
occured. By giving The Great Awakening and John Edwards preaching so much power it causes
one religion, Protestanism, to become compatable as a part of the American identity. By
associated Protestantism with an American identity it reveals the founders hypocrisy when they
stated in the Bill of Rights that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of
religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof when it seems indeed a single religion is being
promoted as the American religion. However, this could also simply be because of the confusion
in definitions and what peoples views on church and state s relationship is and or should be on its
promotion of a religion. This issue was brought up on page 89 of the reader, when in 1818 in
Connecticut, Baptists argued that the state should support all churches equally while Thomas
Jefferson argued that

Essay Deadbeat Parents
Deadbeat Parents
Since the beginning of time, there have been children born out of wedlock. When children are
born out of wedlock it is still the responsibility of both parents to contribute to the needs of a child
both ethically and legally. However that is not happening much of the time in today s world. When
a child is not cared for by a parent, it looks bad on them to society. However since child support
laws have been enacted, ethical reasons to take care of a child are now overpowered by legal
reasons.
Now there are more and more parents being dubbed deadbeats for failure to take care of their
children financially. Since the women s movement there has been a social ... Show more content on

Federal, state and local governments are all playing a part in helping to bring to justice deadbeat
parents. Since child support laws and the deadbeat parent laws have come into play, it is making
it more difficult to run if you owe child support. The federal government sets the standards for
child support enforcement. It is then handed down to the state governments to send cases to
appropriate local governments. The local governments within their offices do most of the work in
locating the parent, establishing paternity, enforcement of child support, and modification of
support. If a child support order is not followed the local governments begin the searching
process. Several tactics have been put into place to track down deadbeats parents within the last
few years. Branches of the government are now using social security numbers to search jobs,
bank accounts, automobiles, and tax returns. They are now suspending licenses if you fall behind
in child support. Deadbeat parents also can now be tracked down from state to state since federal
and state regulations of child support have been established. In previous years it was almost
impossible to find parents once they moved out of state. However they are working more and more
to track down the deadbeat parent s country wide. The federal government mandated that a country
wide automated child tracking system be implemented. This new system is known as

Gender Role Stereotypes In Boys And Girls By Alice Munro
In Alice Munro s Boys and Girls, she tells a story, through narration about society s profound
unfairness of gender role stereotyping, and the effect this has on the stages into adulthood is
presented. On society, many women battle ideas, beliefs and stereotypes placed on being a
woman from what roles they play in society to how they should act and what roles they play in
society they begin to feel trapped within these ideologies and they conform. We are not all the
same it s like, trying to fit a square peg in a round hole . The main conflicts in the story are the
different expectations between a girl and a boy, but also the struggle for a young girl to find an
identity of her own. Through the internal struggles and battles of the main character, the... Show

Within this story about a family business is a deeper meaning something we can all relate to in
one form or another. We all want to please our parents and make them proud. There always comes
a point where our views become different from theirs. This is something that is hard to deal with.
We want our parents to accept us for who we are but, that may not always be the case. A gender
battle brews in this story and as the story builds it becomes stronger and stronger. To be a girl is
something that is almost looked down upon. Making it hard for this young girl to come to terms
with the fact that she is a girl and that is okay. The pressure from her mother to be in the kitchen
with her haunts this young girl. She sees this as a negative because she doesn t feel close with
her mother or trust her. Her mother wants her to help her in the kitchen and for her brother to
take over the work she does in the barn. The main character does not see how her brother could
ever do all the things she does. She does not desire for her to want to be in the kitchen with her

  • 2. Bottled Water Consumption Should Be Banned Have you ever had any concerns about bottled water? Do you think that bottled water consumption should be banned? Bottled water is water packed in plastic containers and sold for human consumption (Health Canada, 2013). Currently, the amount of bottled water consumed has increased considerably since many people feel it is safer drinking bottled waterthan tap water (Parent and Wrong, 2014). According to The Statistics Portal, the global sale of bottled water took a leap from 161, 589 to 181, 608 liters from 2009 to 2011. Only in the United States, each American citizen consumed around 32 gallons of bottled water in 2013, thus meaning an equivalent growth of 15, 94% over 2009 (The Statistics Portal, 2014). In fact, due to good portability, bottled water has been helpful in both simple and complex situations such as daily exercises and natural disasters. Even though having those few considerable advantages, bottled water still have been less beneficial; especially due to the negative impacts in the social, health and environmental fields. In contemporary society, bottled water consumption has become more attractive and popular. While in 2009 were only sold 161,589 million liters of bottled water, in 2011 approximately 181.61 million liters were sold all over the world (The Statistics Portal, 2014). In this context, attributing that significant growth of bottled water commercialization is consequence of a successful marketing should not be considered a disposable ... • 3. Cell Organelles And Structures tion of Cell Organelles Cells are surrounded with a boundary known as the cell surface membrane and as well as holding the cell together, being semi permeable, it controls the movement of materials across it. Within the cell are a number of structures each which have specific functions. These structures are known as organelles. The cell surface membrane and the membranes of any of the membrane bound organelles described below are made of the same material, a double layer of phospholipid molecules. Within the cell surface membrane, the intracellular space known as the cytoplasm, contains all the organelles and a fluid known as cytosol. Within the cytosol is a network of microtubules and fibres called the cytoskeleton. Glorification In Death Essay Glorification in Death The two pieces of art Standard of Ur (c. 2600 B.C.E.) and Sarcophagus of Junius Bassus (c. 359 C.E.), both by unknown artists, were ceremonious pieces in their time, and captivating works of art in ours. While the artists are unknown, their work is indicative of the time period in which they lived. Religious imagery and depiction of stories were subjects many artists pursued, especially in the death of their leaders. The sarcophagus was made for a member of the senatorial family, Junius Bassus, this amazing sculpted sarcophagus depicts multiple religious scenes and imagery. The top register of mosaics on each side depicts a king, who is exaggerated in size to show the figure in a larger scale than others. The Standard depicts the two most significant pieces of early Mesopotamian culture: the warriors who protected the people, secured access to water, natural resources and the King who served as an intermediary between the people and the gods. • 6. The Effects Of Media Violence And Violence On Children Violence in the media is a growing concern on whether or not it affects children. The media starts portraying violence at a very young age in many children s shows and many times children prefer the television show with more action. There is also the monkey see, monkey do factor at a young age because a child might see something on tv and try to copy it in real life after they see the cartoon character was okay. Many people believe that media has an effect on kids and adolescents, but it s hard to determine whether or not media leads to a child s aggressionand how violent American media really is. To start, the media in the U.S is much more violent compared to other countries. Due to this fact, many people struggle to understand whether or not there is a connection between media violenceand aggression in children. There have been many studies done on whether or not the media has any sort of effect on aggression and violence in children. American television and movies provide many younger people with continuous violent content. A review made by the American Psychological Association showed that the average child or teenage views about 10,000 rapes, murders, and aggravated assault on television per year alone or 200,000 by the time a child reaches their teenage years (Hopf, W). This number would be even higher if the child focuses on watching only certain channels and programs that might contain more violence compared to others. One research study showed that 70% of prime time shows included some form of violence and 90% of children s programs include some violence and the rate of violence seemed to be consistent (Bushman, B.J). The National Television Violence Study looked at violence on broadcast and cable television which showed that nearly 80% of premium cable channels contained violence and less than 20% of the public broadcasting channels contained violence. Another study done by the National Television Study showed that violence on television is frequently glamorized, meaning the violent acts were done by the good guys. Violence on television is frequently sanitized, meaning half of the violent crimes committed show no physical harm or pain to the victim. Violence on television is often ... The culture that is present today in the Caribbean is the result of many different influences varying from those introduced by ruling colonial countries, to influences that the slaves stressed, and even from brand new colonies being developed. In fact many historians to this day debate over the question of whether or not the plantations even made any profit over their period of existence. More and more pirates emerged as the demand for sugar continued to increase, and therefore more and more slaves were also needed. After these pirates attacked slave ships en route to the Caribbean, they would take the slaves and trade them in the Caribbean for sugar, molasses, and rum and make their way back to Europe top begin the process all over again. Because these pirates did not differentiate between the countries ships that they attacked (excluding their own), they began some of the first mixing of slaves and cultures into one group. Often times they would take the non black deckhands of the attacked ship and either make them slaves as well, or assign them to deck duty upon their own ship. This general small scale mixing was the beginning to what was to ensue on a much larger scale in the very near future. Another area that began to increase the tendency for cultural and social mixing was the fact that as more and more pirates sailed the sea, counties began to send less and less of their commissioned trade ships. While the main character, Buzz, and his cousin were in California, they were playing a game and overheard some disturbing words by Buzz s mother. Buzz previously had great respect for his mother and was a happy, fun kid. A turn of events changed his point of view and made him see his mother in a mean, cold view. We start to see some prejudice when Buzz s mom said He s my favorite of the boys. He s so light skinned and look at that good straight hair. But as the conversation is progressing, so is the hurtfulness of his mother s words. The final breaking point for Buzz is when his mom says I m so glad this baby didn t turn out black and ugly like Buzz As we could see through the dialogue, Buzz faced prejudice from no one but his own mother. In the essay The Banking Concept of Education, Paulo Freire creates the argument that teachers simply deposit knowledge into students and the students then only store the deposits, without having any input of their own. He says that the student records, memorizes, and repeats these phrases without perceiving what four times four really means.... (318). The teacher teaches and the students are taught; the teacher chooses and enforces his choice, and the students comply; the teacher chooses the program content, and the students (who were not consulted) adapt to it. Those are only some of the points made by Freire in the banking theory. Although Freire is talking about education, this theory can also be applied to modern day advertisement. Companies plaster advertisements anywhere they can, from billboards to television screens, telling viewers what they need to look like, act like, be like, and talk like, while the viewers simply take in that information and conform to it. In this Sisley advertisement, two models are snorting what would be expected to be cocaine, but instead it is a white dress. The words Fashion Junkie are printed underneath the brand name. The bright white of the dress creates a contrast with the pitch black background, creating an atmosphere of darkness. In the two years that Van Gogh spent in The Hague (1882 83), he produced some two hundred drawings, most of which are very characteristic figure studies, either after the woman who shared his life in The Hague, Sien Hoornik, or after men and women from an old people s home, but there are also excellent landscapes, such as the views of the gardens and meadows behind his house. One of the most famous of his figure studies is the seated nude, titled Sorrow, for which Sien had sat as a model. This portrait, of which he also made a lithograph, is typical for what his ideal in drawing was; he wanted to achieve more than mere technical perfection: his real aim was expression. Though it is known that certain means to achieve such spectacles were vicious and cruel, it ultimately satisfied the Roman peoples need for pleasure and excitement. Public displays varied from chariot races, musical and theatrical performances, to the more gruesome acts of wild beast hunts, gladiatorial games, and public executions. Most of the Romans daily leisure activities still remain in the realm of common recreational activities we still perform today, such as swimming, hunting, fishing, and even gambling. While the inner city state provided nearly all public entertainment events, citizens held their own interpretations beyond the outer city territories. Every distinguishable form of entertainment within the society held distinct and important influences throughout the ancient Roman culture, regardless of how they were formed or who cultivated them. Displays of mass public entertainment took on a number of different forms, from festivals such as ludi Megalenses, ludi Ceriales, to ludi Circenses, (chariot racing in the circus) Venationes (games with animals, also in the circus, but later they took place in the amphitheater as well) and theatrical performances, ludi Scaenici (Potter and Mattingly, 206). It is irrational to expect to dominate the entire market upon entry. While Sterling would be able to meet UK s demand, it would face some fearce competition especially from UK s top seal producers, which include Jordan and Bolsom, who have very loyal customers. • 22. Different Kinds Of Polymers And Polymers A polymer is a large molecule that is made from many small repeating chemicals called monomers. In the Greek language, polymer literally means many parts. Polymers are being used more and more in medical devices, such as drug delivery, screws, plates, fixation pins, suture anchors and many other applications. Some of the most useful polymers for medical uses are poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and poly(glycolic acid) (PGA). They are useful in medicine because of the fact that they can degrade within the body to lesser components that will cause very minimal negative effects. Scientists have found many different ways to control the degradation of these two polymers. Combining two or more different kinds of monomers during polymerformation is called copolymerization. Changing the amount of different kinds of monomers during copolymerization of either poly(lactic co glycolic) (PLGA) or PLA can change degradation characteristics. [2] For example, combining lactic acid and glycolic acid to make PLGA will degrade quicker. There are also stereo copolymers, such as L lactic acid, and D lactic acid which are the same chemical, but are mirror images of each other (figure 1). These can be combined to also lower the degradation times of PLA or PGLA. Figure 1. Harris contends that most scholars, do not make the decision for or against the identity of the authorship based on the stylistic or linguistic evidence, but rather, that argument is made on the basis of the content or logical argument flow. Harris uses the knowledge of other scholars regarding chapter 21 of the Gospel of John. He highlights another scholar when viewing the idea if chapter 21 was just an addendum to the Gospel of John or is it an item of necessity. He quotes S. Smalley to say this, Smalley demonstrates that chapter 21 is not as much of an addendum as some believe, and that it does in fact provide a necessary conclusion to the Fourth Gospel, which does not merely end with the confession by Thomas, but offer a repetitive emphasis that the disciples will continue the witness of Jesus even after He has ascended to His Father, in addition to carrying out the mission

Persuasive Essay On Cyber Bullying According to a study from the Pew Research Center, 92% of American teens go online to post, like, comment, tweet, and re tweet at least a hundred photos a day. Preadolescents between the ages of 9 15 primarily use social media websites as a portal to communicate with past friends, find new ones, and to post about their day. However, the use of these sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube etc. can put young kids at risk of being bullied online, stalked by predators and pedophiles, and subjected to inappropriate pictures and videos. The truth is today youths lack the basic understanding of the dangers that lurk within social media, and therefore should not be allowed to use them until they can fully comprehend all the risks attached to using these sites. A growing issue kids in America between the ages of 9 15 deal with today while using social media sites is online bullying, also known as cyberbullying. It is a known fact that bullying can start in school, and continue online. Young adolescents that use social media to harass their peers, use them because they feel that it is the easiest, and the most effective way to torture their target without getting caught. Based off a recent study on cyberbullying in 2014, it states that 52% of young adults have reported being bullied online by a member of their class (Cyber Bullying Statistics 2014, n.d.). Peer on peer online harassment is a serious issue that can come with some very upsetting consequences like suicide, or retaliation that can change the lives of everyone around them. In a story like Grace K. McComas a 15 year old Glenelg High student from Baltimore who committed suicide on Easter morning of 2012 after being cyberbullied by her peers for months (Ames, n.d.). Also the story about Noel Estevez, a 14 year old boy from New York who killed his abuser by stabbing him 3 times on July of 2014, are some examples of how bullying on social media websites can negatively affect young adults today. Kids should be banned from using social media until they understand that the comments and posts that they put online can often come with consequences that can take their life, or the life of their victims. • 36. Theme Of Symbolism In Young Goodman Brown Symbolism within Young Goodman Brown Within many Gothic works, symbolism is profoundly used, especially in the tale of Young Goodman Brown written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Was Faith his innocent companion or his trust in his religion? Why does Faith wear pink ribbons, innocence much like that of a child or a deep symbolic meaning? Deception is yet another symbol within this tale, because not everything is as it seams. By Faith, representation of colors, and deception, Hawthorne demonstrates Gothic symbolism within his tale of Young Goodman Brown. Faith is trust and belief in someone or something, mainly within religious practices. However, Faith has also become a popular name. Within the passage, Faith is the name of Goodman Brown s wife. In the beginning, Faith desperately begs Brown to stay at home instead of departing on the journey for the reason that Faith was timid and scared to death. However, as most men do, he does not listen and went on his expedition anyways; he left his dear Faith behind. By leaving his wife Faith, Brown also leaves behind his actual faith in God on his journey in to the forest (Stoehr 393). Therefore, in his short story Hawthorne symbolizes Brown s wife as his own faith. By leaving her, it demonstrates him leaving not only his wife, but his faith. Pink is an innocent hue of color, is it not? In addition to being a symbol within the passage, Goodman Brown s wife Faith wears pink ribbons in her hair. At first glance, pink is a ... The first person ahead constantly looks back at the second person. What is bound to go through the second person s mind? Is it unsafe ahead? Is something wrong? What is the person ahead trying to communicate? That is an example of how a horsewould feel when led by a human who looks back at him. Remember, horses rely on good leadership for survival. Firstly, horses are intelligent creatures with different personalities, abilities, and sensitivities. Humans should realize that each horse has a different need and that each training requirement is different. Does that sound like a senseless horse? A horse with that much intelligence, to have no choice during training? It is inconceivable. Horses are not incapable of understanding communication; it is up to the human not to send out mixed signals. In the third place, when the human sends the horse away during equine training, the person is giving the horse a choice. Either the horse will stay away or come back to safety. When the person gives the horse a choice, the horse is very willing to work. This image centers on ones weight, height, hair color, and overall physical beauty. It is reported that these particular attributes may affect ones personal career. No one knows quite why this is the case, but there have been several studies that involve these works, linking whether there is a direct correlation with these results or if it comes down to a discriminative nature. Among some of the most interesting studies, are the ones that deal with bias in the workplace. According to a journal from Labour Economics, Blonde women with no work experience earn 6% 9% less than their non blonde counterparts (Dechter 2015). The findings show that blondes can have positive, as well as negative, effects in the workplace. The stronger negative effect of blonde hair color is commonly apparent in sales (Dechter 2015). This theory has proven to be true by the sheer presence of customer discrimination, thus showing a lack of blondes in the sales profession (Dechter 2015). Both negative and positive preferences for blondeness are in line with the prejudices of the blonde stereotype , which attributes a series of positive and negative characteristics to young blonde women but not to young blonde men (Dechter 2015). Based on a study in the UK in 2006, scientists analyzed 500 CEOs and discovered that blondes were very underrepresented compared to men and women with other hair colors (Dickinson 2012).
