Unit 36 Research Paper
Although there are quite a few ways to arrange the given variables to get 36, the first equation that
pops into my mind is: 3N+D=36 When I read through the list of variables, I settled on the very last
one, N=11, and divided 36 by it to get 3r3. I, then, scanned back over the list of values to find the
corresponding variable for 3 to add to 33 and balance the equation. Though I chose to go this route, as
stated in my opening, there are many ways to get 36 with the given values. These values range from 0
11 and some of them, as we know, are factors of 36 (1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 9). The fact that so many of the
values are factors is a clear indication that there is definitely, as the old adage says, more than one way
to skin the cat . To form an equation we have the following options. We can (a) choose a complete
factor set from the list of values which would form a quick and neat equation like 6^2=36, 6*6=36,
and 9*4=36, or (b) pick one of the other variables whose value is not a part of a complete factor set, in
which case the equation would be more complex, but one could easily manipulate it by adding,
subtracting, multiplying or dividing a combination of the other variables until the equation is
balanced. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Knowing the answer before you understand the question is a pro because in some instances, we, as
individuals, need to work out things in our own way in order to fully grasp a given concept. For
example, I often use stories of my personal life experiences to encourage my children when they are
faced with certain obstacles. Now, although the path I took allowed me to overcome that obstacle, it
may not be a suitable path for this particular child so I always make sure to close the story with telling
them that even though I shared my story (or my equation), my story is not necessarily THE way but
simply A way to overcome the obstacle. and I m only sharing to show that it CAN be

Bruno And Gretel Boy
An 8 year old boy named Bruno (Asa Butterfield) lives with his family in Berlin, in Nazi Germany
during the Holocaust. He learns that his father Ralf (David Thewlis) has been promoted, due to which
their family, including Bruno s mother Elsa (Vera Farmiga) and 12 year old sister Gretel (Amber
Beattie), relocate to the countryside. Bruno hates his new home as there is no one to play with and
very little to explore. After commenting that he has spotted people working on what he thinks is a
farm in the distance, he is also forbidden from playing in the back garden.
Bruno and Gretel get a tutor, Herr Liszt (Jim Norton), who pushes an agenda of antisemitism and
nationalist propaganda. Gretel becomes increasingly fanatical in her support for the Third Reich,
covering her bedroom wall with Nazi propaganda posters. Bruno is confused as the Jews he has seen,
in particular the family s Jewish servant Pavel (David Hayman), do not resemble the caricatures in
Liszt s teachings.
One day, Bruno disobeys his parents and sneaks off into the woods, eventually arriving at an electric
barbed wire fence surrounding a camp. He befriends a boy his own age named Shmuel (Jack ... Show

How Supporters of Slavery Used Legal, Religious, and...
Throughout the history of the United States, there have always been conflicts between the North and
the South. Basically throughout the 1900s, the North and South acted somewhat childishly towards
each other about different topics. As the North became more industrialized and self sufficient, the
South stayed behind and depended heavily on other countries for manufactured goods in exchange for
cotton. The North felt superior to the South, and the South was not pleased about that. Although most
Northerners didn t care much for slavery, there were handfuls that were abolitionists and attacked the
South on their backwards economy that depended on slavery . In the South, not everyone was a
slaveholder as one may think; there were actually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This of course would be true if Scott had been a citizen but according to the decision of the Supreme
Court, all blacks, slaves or not, could never be citizens of the United States therefore Scott s argument
wasn t legitimate . The second part of the ruling stated that Congress did not have the authority to
prohibit slavery in federal territories. As one can see, the ruling came out in favor of the protectors of
slavery because they even if Scott had a legitimate argument, he would not have won the case either
way because the Missouri Compromise (which prohibited slavery in the Wisconsin Territory) was
unconstitutional. It reverted back to stating that the compromise violated the 5th amendment , which
was the protection of property, which if interpreted strictly would include slaves. This was a smart
tactic to use in protecting slavery because both the North and the South had to comply with the
Constitution, by interpreting it strictly, the South claimed to have a right of keeping their slaves
because they were property.
4 Another way supporters of slavery used a common ground to defend the institution was through
religion. Both the North and the South had established churches and since they all had the same
teachings, they could argue that slavery was a holy right due to the fact that it is referred to as so in the
Bible. They used arguments from the book of St. Paul and made references to Abrahamic tradition .
They used

Passages From The Gospels Of Mark Matthew Essay
Passages from the Gospels of Mark Matthew Throughout the New Testament Gospels, an abundance
of enriching, soulful narratives thrive and live on through their cultivated messages of hope,
compassion, miracles, and redemption. Recalling in detail the heroic life and journey of Jesus Christ,
expounding his teachings and philosophy, and revealing hidden components of God s divine nature,
the Gospels are rife with symbolism and potent imagery which are accessible to people of every faith.
The timeline of Jesus Christ s life, miracle healings, administered sermons, and selfless service to the
people he met and interacted with is encapsulated in the storyline of four texts within the Christian
Bible which have been juxtaposed with one another. When these are read together, one can observe
many fascinating parallels and similarities that make it difficult to dispute the information or messages
about the life of Jesus Christ which the Gospels disseminate. There are specific passages in the
Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John which reveal the fundamental aspects of what it means to
be a disciple, and furthermore, what it means to be a human being. This essay will address
discipleship and human nature as they appear in three passages, Mark 5: 1 20, Mark 5: 35 43, and
Matthew... By way of thorough examination and formal analysis of the scriptural text, definitions of
what it means to be a true disciple and a true human being will be discussed. In the first passage from

Sprint focuses on services by looking at ways to bring the customers in and retaining them. The
biggest seller for Sprint currently is the unlimited data plan. Sprint is the only network that has this
program. With their competitor, AT T, customers tend to go over their plan usage, which causes more
fees and the uncertainty of interrupted services. Sprint had to research and become creative in order to
stay a step ahead of its competitors and provide innovative ideas. Sprint Nextel served more than 55
million customers at the end of 2011 and is widely recognized for developing, engineering, and
deploying innovative technologies, including the first wireless 4G service from a national carrier in
the United States (Sprint, 2012). In order to continue being one of the leading providers in wireless

Unit 2 Numbers Research Paper
Numbers, simple lines connected to each other in different ways. Yet these simple configurations of
lines have created the basis for all living things. Measurements of any kind require the use of these
mere human constructs. The numbers 185463 are no different: they re just numbers. However, humans
are able to understand them in so many different ways. The two most important numbers 1 and 8; 18
proves itself to be a multiple of the other two pairs of digits. For example, 18 goes into 54, which is
the combination of the second digits in the number. The last two digits, 36, are also divisible by 18
which is the inverse of the third digit pairing in the series. In addition 18 is divisible by 9, which is
also a characteristic of the other two terms. It can also be shown that every sequential pair of digits
add up to 9. It is more clearly shown with an example. The first two numbers, 1 and 8, add up to 9.
The next two numbers, 5 and 4, add up to 9, and also the next two numbers 6 and 3 also add up to 9.

Fractals in nature include seashells, snowflakes, and lightning; all very beautiful sights, and seeing
that there is a fractal in this number it promotes the idea of how beautiful numbers can be too. When
this number first came to my attention my first impression was that it was an amount of something.
This is very reasonable because numbers determine every subject on this earth, the importance
achieved from these numbers is through their contribution to society. The number 185463 represents
an amount of something, possibly a salary, chairs in an inventory, and maybe a population in a certain
city. There are so many different possibilities that can be created with the use of this number, just look

We have received the request to evaluate the current management system and practices of Game Shop

information provided. Our team has concluded maintaining a good reputation in the industry is a
critical success factor for Game Shop Inc. because this industry is an oligopoly and anything that

The billing scorecards are informative to the PMs and others, however it does not seem to be
improving billing timeliness as the grades have not increased significantly on average(insert endnote).
The punitive nature of the scorecards (ie. Detention meetings) have the right goal in mind but may
cause managers to harbor resentment which most likely would not lead to the desired effect. Since the
P Cars focus more on procedures rather than personnel, we will focus our alternatives mainly on
procedural aspects as P Cars were the most successful.
Alternative 2:
Another alternative is to have an IT system that is integrated into the billing system. It can have
several advantages and resolve key issues effecting billing accuracy and timeliness. An important flaw
that an IT system will help address is efficiency in the billing process. Currently, billing work can only
be submitted once a week and reports take too long to download onto a PM s computer. With an
integrated system, bill processing time is reduced through automation. Since changes in estimates are
common, there can be a lot of paperwork submissions that have to go through the proper channels.
Automated entry saves time, money, and can be more accurate. Management is able to update POs
quickly and easily. Some customers might not be happy with the current system of receiving POs
because they quickly become obsolete. With

A Short Story Of A Ghost Story
I shall begin my story with an experience I encountered at the age of sixteen at our small town s Latin
school. The sweetness of many memories from that time still stirs and touches me with melancholy:
dark and well lit alleys, houses and factories, faces and chimes, rooms affluent and comfortable, snug
and amenable, the whole town was pregnant with secrets.
The realms of day and night, two different universes coming from two opposite poles, mingled during
this time. My parents home belonged to one realm. This realm was familiar to me in many ways
strictness and love, model behaviour and school. This realm was thriving in clarity, brilliance and
purity, polite conversations and good manners. This was the world in which morning hymns were
sung and Christmas celebrated. Straight lines and paths led into the future: there was duty, love,
forgiveness, good resolutions, wisdom and reverence. If one wanted an unsullied and ordinary life,
one made sure one was in league with this world.
The other realm, however, was completely different: it smelt different, spoke a different language,
promised and demanded different things. This world contained ghost stories, rumours of scandals and
servant girls. It was dominated by a loud mixture of horrendous, intriguing, frightful, mysterious
things, including slaughterhouses and prisons, drunkards and screeching fishwives, calving cows,
horse sinking to their deaths, talks of robberies, murders and suicides. All these wild and cruel,

Analysis Of Gulliver s Travels ( Gt ) By Jonathan Swift...
The Unconscious Slavery Under the Declaration of Independence, which was written in the year of
1776, it states that ...all men [are] endowed ... certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life,
Liberty and the pursuit of Happyness (Independence Hall Association). What does it mean to have
liberty or freedom? Freedom can be expressed differently based on the person s experiences. This is
not the case when someone has everything. Freedom becomes the opposite and people become slaves
to their own thoughts. In Gulliver s Travels (GT) by Jonathan Swift, The Known World (TKW) by
Edward P. Jones, and in Remainder by Tom McCarthy, these authors demonstrate the power of the
mind to enslave someone who would be seen as free based on their size, color, status, and wealth.
Swift uses Gulliver, a white and knowledgeable man, to demonstrate the power of the mind to enslave
a man who is a giant. While in Lilliput Gulliver had the advantage of being the tallest person in the
land. The Lilliputians saw this as an advantage since they could use his size to defeat the neighboring
city known as Blefuscu. Size plays a very powerful symbol since the person who has the biggest
weapons wins the war. The Lilliputians did not let his size enslave them. The Lilliputians actually
enslaved Gulliver to follow their demands. Swift is showing how, although Gulliver does not have to
take orders for anyone because of his advantage, he falls under the enslavement of his own mind. The

German Occupation Of Poland Dbq Essay
During World War II, non Jewish Poles had to decide whether to obey the new laws in German
occupied Poland. These new laws greatly affected how people would act in German occupied Poland.
The consequences for breaking the laws were very severe and would often result in harm to your
family. But people still broke them for no other reason for the fact that the laws were wrong. They
helped Jews even though it wasn t allowed by the government. Citizens responded to the laws passed
by the state during the German occupation of Poland in many different ways this impacting history.
In Poland in the year of 1942 was when Poles first had to start choosing. On September 24th 1942 the

Research Paper: Intel, Monopolies, and Corruption
Throughout the last 50 or so years, tech companies have risen and fall, gaining fame and power, and
marking their names in history book for achieving momentous tasks, often in which can still be seen
today. Intel is not an exception to this trend; in fact, the mega corporation is a prime example of what
American tech giants look like: Intel has their hand in essentially every market dealing with computer
components, from memory and memory controllers, to accelerators, to their main attraction, Central
Processing Units, or CPU s, for Desktops, Laptops, and Servers. Not only does Intel have vast reach in
the computer component market, but they have complete control of not only their production process,
being for the most part self contained. From mining necessary resources, to shipping out their
complete products from factories to their recipients, whether that be a store or an OEM. Intel is truly
one of the most successful, if not the most successful Tech giant involved with Computer hardware.
However, they only got to this place through nefarious actions, such as breaking contracts, playing the
courts to their advantage, throwing their weight around, regardless of the legality of it, to meet their
bottom lines. Considering that Intel is at such a high position, and has pretty much always existed at a
fairly high position in the market, why? This paper will set out to find out the

Essay Sir Isaac Newton s Three Laws of Motion
We have all heard the story of the apple falling on Newton s head while he was sitting against the tree,
thus
giving him the sudden idea for the Universal Law of Gravity. This, as I am sure most of us know, is
not really
what happened. A more accurate version would probably be, Newton observed an apple falling from a
tree
and started contemplating the physics of the apple s fall. The acceleration experienced by the apple,
which
started at zero when hanging in the tree, then increased as the apple fell. This as Newton reasoned
from his
second law of motion, means there must be a force acting upon the apple in order to cause the
acceleration,
this force we will call gravity. Thus giving us the acceleration due to this force ... Show more content

From this we are able to tell that
if an object is either accelerating or decelerating than an external force must be acting on it even if it is
simply the force of gravity, air resistance, or friction.
Newton s 2nd Law
This is probably the most known of all three of Newton s Laws of motion.
* The acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the net force
acting on it, while being inversely proportional to its mass.
More often though we see this law written as;
Fnet = ma
Where F equals the net force on the object in Newtons, m equals the mass in kilograms and
a equals the acceleration of the object in meters/second^2. Since force is a vector this can be
rewritten in three separate equations to take into account direction;
Fx = ma, Fy = ma, Fz = ma
Fnet = Fx + FY+ Fz
We must also remember that acceleration as well is a vector and therefor has three components just
like the force. When learning how to use Newton s 2nd Law, however, one usually only uses examples
where there is only two directional forces acting on an object. These are usually the x direction (side
to side) and the y direction (up and down). For now we are only going to take into account these two
components.
This law is very useful in the fact we can determine the acceleration of an object if we know the forces
acting on it as well as it s

April Walker was a new student at St. Nicolau High School and so far it has not been what she had

whole class by slipping on the wet part of the floor. Everyone started laughing, April also laughed with
them trying to fit in with what the class is doing. When it was time for lunch she sat alone while others

I know that it s hard to fit in on the first few days or so but trust me and our class, and they ll come to

The Community Treatment Orders ( Cto )
The introduction of Community Treatment Orders (CTO) has raised much debate around the issue of
whether this is an ethical practice or not. This debate calls for a number of questions to be answered.
For starters, can unethical practice be justified if it is for the greater good? More specifically, should
the elimination of individuals rights be accepted if success is to be achieved from these programs. In
order to gain insight into answering these questions, Community Treatment Orders need to be defined
first. According to the Mental Health Act , a Community Treatment Order sets out terms under which
a person must accept psychiatric drugs, therapy, and other services while living in the community
(Mental Health Act 2007). CTO s include ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By doing so, they are given the opportunity for social inclusion and to be part of a community
(Lawson Smith et al, 2008). In addition, the fact that they are still in operation today supports the idea
that change is needed in society. From a political perspective, they are enforced by governments in
order to help those who are most vulnerable, to remedy discrimination, and protect the general public
(Russell, 2011). As wholehearted as these goals may be in theory, the fact remains that the intended
results are not being achieved and civil liberties are being infringed upon.
Those opposing the use of CTO s are influenced by three reasons to support their position. The first
reason deals with the current evidence base. For starters, international research literature has found no
strong evidence on the positive or negative effects of CTO s on three key outcomes. These outcomes
are hospital readmissions, length of hospital stay, and patients quality of life (Lawton Smith et al,
2008) Furthermore, a 36 month study of 198 patients concluded that CTO s do not prevent relapse and
readmission of psychiatric inmates with severe and enduring mental illnesses . The study showed that
results were in line with the current national use (Rugkasa, Yeeles, Koshiaris, Burns, 2016). Analysis
of these results shows that there is no compelling reason for CTO s to continue to exists, given the
lack of improvement that they provide.
The use of CTO s is

techniques and tips I use to sneak up and beat the other team. I took the leadership role in that
situation because I knew what to do and I knew how to do it. They listened to me because they saw
me playing against others earlier in the day. This is the youngest I can remember about having a

decade as the best time for children to grow up. However, Coontz has her own view of the 1950s, and
she illustrates her own opinions about this decade using strong and logical facts. While the nostalgia
of the 1950s is vastly strong in some people, some fail to notice the negativity and the reality of it. The
decade of the 1950s represents an era where life was balanced, simple, and innocent. A time in the
American history where a high school education promised a comfortable living and where family
values were presented to audiences through television shows. In the article, Coontz argues that the
simplicity and innocence that the people who lived in this time period enjoyed came at a high price.
Coontz claims that generally those who felt that the 1950s was the best time for children to grow up
would show their dislike for the treatment of women. They also would add that they would not
particularly enjoy living with the most of the fathers they knew in their neighborhoods. She also points
out the economic and social reasons why the 1950s is so appealing to quite a lot of people. There were
lower divorce rates, federal economic expansion programs, corporate tax programs, and

Marine Biology Application Essay
Gloria Steinem once said, Without leaps of imagination, or dreaming, we lose the excitement of
possibilities. Imagination and dreams can make anything possible, including me becoming a marine
biologist. Ever since I was five years old, i have dreamed of becoming a marine biologist. My dad,
stepmom, and me took a trip to Orlando, Florida and I was terrified of what was to come. I didn t
know it had the time, but now I realize that this one experience has shaped me into who I am and what
I love. In the summer of 2007, I found myself in the most extraordinary place I have ever been. I
walked into Discovery Cove and my jaw slammed against the floor. There were animals happily
playing everywhere. The summer breeze danced around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You could litter in the middle of the U.S. and it will slither around until it finds its way into the ocean.
Make sure you help out as much as you can, because every little deed that you do, even if it is the
smallest of things, it is very important to every sea creature. As I looked back at the dolphin, I felt
something a strange feeling deep inside of me. I knew that one day, I this is where I would be. One
day I would help out. One day I would become a marine biologist. I began telling all my friends and
family that that is what I will become, and they all looked at me like I was a two headed monster.
They thought I was crazy and would forget about my dream by tomorrow morning, but I knew I
would prove them wrong. 8 years later, my family and I went back to Discovery Cove, and I was still
determined to become a marine biologist. I asked all around to see the trainers had done to get to work
here and what they did to accomplish it.
Clara, one of my trainers said, Well the biggest thing you have to worry about is wanting it. If you
want to become one, show the world your colors. Don t be afraid of what people might say about you.

The Pros And Cons Of Drinking
In lieu of having a safe, supervised place to drink in moderation, college students have no choice but
to conceal their drinking, behind the closed doors of [dorms] and fraternity basements, (Brown).
Captain Yawn from the University of South Florida, Saint Petersburg, stated that, unlawful drinking
obviously does take place in the dorm rooms, even though there are no bars on campus to host alcohol
related events. Hidden drinking often occurs on college campuses, and the drinking age of 21 makes
monitoring illegal drinking much more difficult for college deans. For instance, at a college party,
where most students look similar in age, it can be nearly impossible to differentiate between who is
drinking legally and who is not. As a result, the enforcement of the drinking age is limited ( Underage
Drinking Laws on Campus ). Captain Robert Yawn also stated that, Statutorily, it [lowering the
drinking age] would obviously be easier because you would eliminate roughly 75% of the potential
offender population, which makes regulating drinking on campus simpler. Many college deans and
presidents have expressed their disapproval for the higher drinking age. A main reason many college
deans disagree with a drinking age of 21 is that punishing students for underage drinking results in
students hiding their drinking instead of limiting it ( Underage Drinking Laws on Campus ). In fact, a
Resident Assistant in college, who has experience enforcing alcohol policy, claimed her

The Causality Of Foreign Direct Investment And Economic...
Testing the Causality Between Foreign Direct Investment and Economic Growth
Ned R Jackson
Utah Valley University
March 2015
Abstract
This paper looks to determine the causality of foreign direct investment and economic growth.
Implementing common and basic econometric techniques to test the association between these two
topics in The United Arab Emirates. In past research it has been implicated that FDI has causality in
economic growth mainly due to the ability FDI has to introduce new technology to the host country
from the foreign countries who are in many cases much more technologically advanced. However, we
hope to show that though there may be a stronger causality between FDI to economic growth that
there is enough evidence to show that there are cases in which economic growth is the cause for the
expansion in FDI that has taken place. =Results from the Solow growth model and Unit root test will
allow us to interpret the true relationship between these two economic factors for the United Arab
Emirates specifically.
Introduction
The correlation between foreign direct investment (FDI) and economic growth is well documented see
(Borensztein, De Gregorio, J W. Lee 98). Even though there has been an extensive amount of research,
which includes both FDI and economic growth, there still seems to be a substantial divide between the
results; which are concluded within these papers. To begin in this research paper we will define

Hae Lee Murder Case Study
Introduction
Serial is a podcast about the murder of Hae Lee, a teenage girl, from Baltimore that was killed in
1999. The state of Maryland has convicted Adnan syad. He was convicted by the testament of Jay,
another student from their school. He claims that he witnessed the crime and the burial of the body. He
was also convicted because adnan s cell phone records partially match the testament the jay claimed to
have happened. Adnan still proclaims to be innocent and there is almost no other evidence to convict
him aside from Jay s story.
I personally believe that there is a third person that committed this murder. I don t think there is
enough evidence to convict adnan. I also don t believe jay is telling the truth. I think that jay worked
for somebody that killed Hae. I think there was an ulterior motive for this killing, somebody wanted to
convict adnan. I think jay plotted all of this out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No mentions of hate groups were made, and no other suspects found. There is no evidence to suggest
my opinion and no reports or witnesses. Also there is some evidence that is convicting to adnan such
as the cell records. There is also the question as to why somebody else would commit this murder.
There is no known reasons as to why somebody else would do this. Basically there is no evidence to
support my opinion.
Counter the counter argument
What I have actually based my opinion on is not the presence of evidence but the lack thereof. We
know there is not enough evidence to convict Jay or adnan so the only logical answer is to suggest a
third person. Jay also obviously knows about this crime so this is why I suggest he is there only to
convict adnan. The evidence that convicted adnan is so insignificant and so shallow that I can t believe
he committed this crime. The only evidence is Jay as a witness, and because of this I have to think that
he knows who really did it.

How Did Mark Morris Influence The World Of Dance
Dance is an ever evolving form of art; in much the same way that one can categorize and differentiate
between eras and styles of architecture one can also do so with dance. These eras at times have sharp
delineations separating them from their antecedents, other times the distinction is far more subtle.
Traditional forms of dance were challenged by choreographers attempting to expand the breadth and
increase the depth of performance; preeminent among such visionaries was Seattle born dancer and
choreographer Mark Morris. Mark Morris began as one of the millions of hopeful individuals
attempting to simply make a career in dance; he not only succeeded but managed to have a lasting
effect on the entire landscape of dance.

The piece was inspired by earlier works by George Balanchine and Merce Cunningham whom Morris
claims are the choreographers that have most influenced him. Morris has become so well respected in
his field that he was tasked with planning the ceremonies for the funeral of opera legend Lorraine
Hunt Lieberson, with whom he had worked with many times and had a friendly relationship.
He is seen today as one of the most enduring forces in modern dance choreography, having pioneered
for decades. One of his most well known works Gloria has been performed, with adaptation, since
1981. He has also had the distinction of performing to the playing of world renowned cellist Yo Yo Ma
on numerous occasions, with Ma remarking that Mark always manages to put the perfect movement to
even my extemporaneous flourishes. His work on preparing for the funeral of Lorraine Hunt
Lieberson, and his international performances have made him recognizable around the globe. Having
choreographed and or conducted (along with other recognizable choreographers) special performances
for dignitaries such as 3 sitting US presidents, the Emperor of Japan, the Queen of England and a
Premier of the Soviet Union has enlarged his admirers to superstar levels.
Mark Morris managed to become a successful dancer in spite of several obstacles, though his parents
were very supportive Morris body was atypical for a dancer. By his own description in

Essay Nick s Self-Discovery in Hemingway s In Our Time
Nick s Self Discovery in Hemingway s In Our Time
The focus of this essay will be to analyze Nick s transition as he moves from mental isolation, to
physical isolation, to maturation and self discovery.
If Nick s life were to be chronologically ordered and analyzed, the stories Indian Camp and The
Doctor and the Doctor s Wife would definitely come first. It is these two stories that give us the first
insight to what kind of character that Nick really is as a child. Because Nick is only mentioned briefly
in the latter story, I think that Indian Camp is more significant in analyzing the portrayal of his
character. I suppose the one passage that truly gives insight about the innocence (and ignorance) of ...

The significance of the quote, It isn t fun any more. Not any of it (34) is the absence of emotion and
meaning in his life. Obviously, the way in which Nick broke up with Marjorie is that he was searching
for something in life that was not yet to be found; not in her or, as it appears, anyone. It is this
hollowness that I think directly relates back to his relationship with his father and is the same lack of
emotion that lead Nick to go to war and to continue wandering by himself after he returns. It is this
same emotion (or lack there of) that is apparent in The Three Day Blow, as well. Though he expresses
some remorse over his break up with Marge ( All he knew is that he had once had Marjorie and that he
had lost her (47)), I truly believe that there was something else that deeply troubled Nick. It is in these
two stories, however, that the reader can begin to infer that Nick, though once a content child who
would never die, is now searching for something in life, whether it be adequacy or meaning. Thus,
these stories are important because they show his maturation and make a preface for the events that
follow.
The Battler seems to be the culmination of Nick s psuedo depression that is sensed in the two stories
before it. The reader can infer that, whether to leave his parents, to seek meaning in life, or just for
adventure, Nick has taken on the life of a

Batesan Mimicry Essay
Batesian mimicry is a form of mimicry where a relatively innocuous organism mimics another
organism: one that its own predators avoid because it is poisonous or otherwise unpalatable (Ruxton
2004). There is selection pressure on the harmless organism to become a closer and closer replica of
its venomous model and yet, in nature, no model is quite perfect (in fact, some are poor
approximations, such as the scarlet kingsnake s cobbled together costume of the vastly more
venomous coral snake). Yet we find even these poor mimics have effectively reduced their species
mortality due to predation, at least, in areas where they live sympatrically with their model (Pfennig
2001). Why should poor mimicry be rewarded with success, and why doesn t there ... Show more

Literature Review On Carbohydrates
CHAPTER 2
2.1 LITERATURE REVIEW
Cardoso et al. (2012) This work is focused on the development of novel carbohydrate acetonitrile
based ATPS and on the evaluation of the carbohydrate structure through the phase separation ability.
For that purpose, various carbohydrates were investigated, namely monosaccharides (glucose,
mannose, galactose, xylose, arabinose, and fructose) and disaccharides (sucrose and mannose).
Moreover, commercial sucrose, fructose and glucose commonly used in the food industry were also
tested. The ternary phase diagrams were determined at 298 K, and the respective binodal curves, tie
lines and tie line lengths are reported. Finally, to appraise on the extractive potential of the proposed
ATPS, the partitioning of a common antioxidant, vanillin, was additionally investigated.
Freire et al. (2011) In this work, novel IL carbohydrate based ABS are reported making use of a water
stable ionic liquid 1 butyl 3 methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate ([C4mim][CF3SO3])

between connotation and denotation. In the first stanza; he states, But i hung on like death. This was

danger and as if he was being abused. The denotation of the line is that he s just hanging on tightly to
his father due to the fact that his father is woozy due to all the whiskey. Also, Roethke says, You beat
time on my head, that builds off the idea of abuse. It makes it seem as if he s consistently being abused
by his father. He s Just dancing with his son to the beat of the music. The diction he uses like death

A Relationship Between Physical Properties And Mental...
The relationship between the physical and the mental is an issue that philosophers have pondered for
centuries, and this issue still remains relevant today. In the attempt to determine the relationship
between physical properties and mental properties two schools of thoughts emerged: Monism and
Dualism. People who subscribe to monism believe physical properties, such as color and location, as
well as mental properties, such as emotions and beliefs, are all one entity. Materialisms, the most
popular form of monism, claims that everything mental is also physical. On the other end of the
spectrum, Dualists believe that physical and mental properties are two separate entities. This paper
will address the merits of interactionist substance dualism (interactionism) and epiphenomenalist
property dualism (epiphenomenalism) as well as functionalism which is a type of materialism.
The debate between dualism and materialism has retained its relevance today even though most
contemporary philosophers believe materialism to be true. This is in large part due to the implications
that comes with both views. If dualism is true, this means that there are some things that science will
never be able to explain because science only has the ability to explain the physical. Therefore,
dualism does not correspond with a scientific worldview which indicates why most scientists and
philosophers are reluctant to accept this view. On the other hand, if materialism is true the possibility

Ignaz Semmelweis Handwashing
How Dr. Ignaz Semmelweis Almost Saved Countless Lives in 1847 Since 1847, Ignaz Semmelweis
had been advocating in the medical community for the increase in the practice of handwashing. Based
on the work of medical historian Dr. Howard Markel, we know that Dr. Semmelweis pioneered the
medical field in prophylaxis (the prevention of disease) through his use of sanitation. Dr. Ignaz
Semmelweis was a prickly Hungarian obstetrician at Vienna General Hospital (Markel 1). An
obstetrician is a doctor qualified to care for women giving birth. He tested many theories as to the
mysterious cases of puerperal fever that plagued the maternity ward. In 1847 Ignaz Semmelweis

While he was correct in his theory about what was causing puerperal fever to plague his maternity
ward, his attitude towards his colleagues and his peers own desires to maintain their reputations was
what caused him to be forced out of the hospital. Ignaz Semmelweis superiors believed in the
miasmatic theory of disease; the theory that bad air caused disease (Neuhauaser 2). They did not want
to believe that they were the cause of such illness. Due to his superiors disbelief of his theories, Ignaz
s assistant professorship was never renewed (2). Ignaz left Vienna and traveled to Budapest, where he
taught at St. Rochus Hospital. Ignaz started to berate doctors and nurses about handwashing he refused
to accept any criticism. He sent a letter to his former colleague reading, Should you Herr Hofrath,
without having disproved my doctrine, continue to train your pupils [against it], I declare before God
and the world that you are a murderer and the History of Childbed Fever would not be unjust to you if
it memorialized you as a medical nero (Neuhauser 2). Ignaz Semmelweis felt bitter about his idea
being rejected by his peers, and often berated other doctors and sent hateful letters. Due to his
behavior Ignaz Semmelweis was fired from his job, and was committed to an insane asylum. Dr.

  • 2. Unit 36 Research Paper Although there are quite a few ways to arrange the given variables to get 36, the first equation that pops into my mind is: 3N+D=36 When I read through the list of variables, I settled on the very last one, N=11, and divided 36 by it to get 3r3. I, then, scanned back over the list of values to find the corresponding variable for 3 to add to 33 and balance the equation. Though I chose to go this route, as stated in my opening, there are many ways to get 36 with the given values. These values range from 0 11 and some of them, as we know, are factors of 36 (1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 9). The fact that so many of the values are factors is a clear indication that there is definitely, as the old adage says, more than one way to skin the cat . To form an equation we have the following options. We can (a) choose a complete factor set from the list of values which would form a quick and neat equation like 6^2=36, 6*6=36, and 9*4=36, or (b) pick one of the other variables whose value is not a part of a complete factor set, in which case the equation would be more complex, but one could easily manipulate it by adding, subtracting, multiplying or dividing a combination of the other variables until the equation is balanced. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Knowing the answer before you understand the question is a pro because in some instances, we, as individuals, need to work out things in our own way in order to fully grasp a given concept. For example, I often use stories of my personal life experiences to encourage my children when they are faced with certain obstacles. Now, although the path I took allowed me to overcome that obstacle, it may not be a suitable path for this particular child so I always make sure to close the story with telling them that even though I shared my story (or my equation), my story is not necessarily THE way but simply A way to overcome the obstacle. and I m only sharing to show that it CAN be ... • 3. Bruno And Gretel Boy An 8 year old boy named Bruno (Asa Butterfield) lives with his family in Berlin, in Nazi Germany during the Holocaust. He learns that his father Ralf (David Thewlis) has been promoted, due to which their family, including Bruno s mother Elsa (Vera Farmiga) and 12 year old sister Gretel (Amber Beattie), relocate to the countryside. Bruno hates his new home as there is no one to play with and very little to explore. After commenting that he has spotted people working on what he thinks is a farm in the distance, he is also forbidden from playing in the back garden. Bruno and Gretel get a tutor, Herr Liszt (Jim Norton), who pushes an agenda of antisemitism and nationalist propaganda. Gretel becomes increasingly fanatical in her support for the Third Reich, covering her bedroom wall with Nazi propaganda posters. Bruno is confused as the Jews he has seen, in particular the family s Jewish servant Pavel (David Hayman), do not resemble the caricatures in Liszt s teachings. One day, Bruno disobeys his parents and sneaks off into the woods, eventually arriving at an electric barbed wire fence surrounding a camp. He befriends a boy his own age named Shmuel (Jack ... Bruno soon discovers the true nature of the camp after seeing the many sick and weak looking Jews. While searching, the boys are taken on a march with other inmates by ... • 4. How Supporters of Slavery Used Legal, Religious, and... Throughout the history of the United States, there have always been conflicts between the North and the South. Basically throughout the 1900s, the North and South acted somewhat childishly towards each other about different topics. As the North became more industrialized and self sufficient, the South stayed behind and depended heavily on other countries for manufactured goods in exchange for cotton. The North felt superior to the South, and the South was not pleased about that. Although most Northerners didn t care much for slavery, there were handfuls that were abolitionists and attacked the South on their backwards economy that depended on slavery . In the South, not everyone was a slaveholder as one may think; there were actually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This of course would be true if Scott had been a citizen but according to the decision of the Supreme Court, all blacks, slaves or not, could never be citizens of the United States therefore Scott s argument wasn t legitimate . The second part of the ruling stated that Congress did not have the authority to prohibit slavery in federal territories. As one can see, the ruling came out in favor of the protectors of slavery because they even if Scott had a legitimate argument, he would not have won the case either way because the Missouri Compromise (which prohibited slavery in the Wisconsin Territory) was unconstitutional. It reverted back to stating that the compromise violated the 5th amendment , which was the protection of property, which if interpreted strictly would include slaves. This was a smart tactic to use in protecting slavery because both the North and the South had to comply with the Constitution, by interpreting it strictly, the South claimed to have a right of keeping their slaves because they were property. 4 Another way supporters of slavery used a common ground to defend the institution was through religion. Both the North and the South had established churches and since they all had the same teachings, they could argue that slavery was a holy right due to the fact that it is referred to as so in the Bible. They used arguments from the book of St. Paul and made references to Abrahamic tradition . They used ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Passages From The Gospels Of Mark Matthew Essay Passages from the Gospels of Mark Matthew Throughout the New Testament Gospels, an abundance of enriching, soulful narratives thrive and live on through their cultivated messages of hope, compassion, miracles, and redemption. Recalling in detail the heroic life and journey of Jesus Christ, expounding his teachings and philosophy, and revealing hidden components of God s divine nature, the Gospels are rife with symbolism and potent imagery which are accessible to people of every faith. The timeline of Jesus Christ s life, miracle healings, administered sermons, and selfless service to the people he met and interacted with is encapsulated in the storyline of four texts within the Christian Bible which have been juxtaposed with one another. When these are read together, one can observe many fascinating parallels and similarities that make it difficult to dispute the information or messages about the life of Jesus Christ which the Gospels disseminate. There are specific passages in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John which reveal the fundamental aspects of what it means to be a disciple, and furthermore, what it means to be a human being. This essay will address discipleship and human nature as they appear in three passages, Mark 5: 1 20, Mark 5: 35 43, and Matthew... By way of thorough examination and formal analysis of the scriptural text, definitions of what it means to be a true disciple and a true human being will be discussed. Environmental Scan MGT 498 Environmental Scan Paper MGT/498 Environmental Scan Paper Environmental scans play a crucial role in the strategic planning process by helping organizations take a look at their competitive advantages and identify ways to sustain the advantages. Wheelen and Hunger (2010) describes environmental scanning as the monitoring, evaluation, and dissemination of information from external and internal environments to key people within the corporation (p. 10). Metrics or measuring tools are implemented in order to measure or track the progress of a strategic plan. Internal and external factors help an organization in the decision making process of ... The biggest seller for Sprint currently is the unlimited data plan. Sprint is the only network that has this program. Sprint had to research and become creative in order to stay a step ahead of its competitors and provide innovative ideas. Sprint Nextel served more than 55 million customers at the end of 2011 and is widely recognized for developing, engineering, and deploying innovative technologies, including the first wireless 4G service from a national carrier in the United States (Sprint, 2012). In order to continue being one of the leading providers in wireless communication, Sprint will have to continue looking at innovative ways to stay ahead of its competitors and providing customers with excellent services. In taking a look at the environmental scanning process for Sprint, it must be noted that external information must be gathered from all levels need to be evaluated to see what kind of information is being distributed inside the company that could possibly cause concerns for management as it relates to any changes. Measurements of any kind require the use of these mere human constructs. The numbers 185463 are no different: they re just numbers. However, humans are able to understand them in so many different ways. The two most important numbers 1 and 8; 18 proves itself to be a multiple of the other two pairs of digits. For example, 18 goes into 54, which is the combination of the second digits in the number. The last two digits, 36, are also divisible by 18 which is the inverse of the third digit pairing in the series. In addition 18 is divisible by 9, which is also a characteristic of the other two terms. It can also be shown that every sequential pair of digits add up to 9. It is more clearly shown with an example. The first two numbers, 1 and 8, add up to 9. The next two numbers, 5 and 4, add up to 9, and also the next two numbers 6 and 3 also add up to 9. When this number first came to my attention my first impression was that it was an amount of something. This is very reasonable because numbers determine every subject on this earth, the importance achieved from these numbers is through their contribution to society. The number 185463 represents an amount of something, possibly a salary, chairs in an inventory, and maybe a population in a certain city. There are so many different possibilities that can be created with the use of this number, just look a little closer and you can discover the power and beauty of all ... From: Date: Re: Improvement on Billing Process We have received the request to evaluate the current management system and practices of Game Shop Inc. We have taken actions to identify problems and the areas of improvement based on the information provided. Our team has concluded maintaining a good reputation in the industry is a critical success factor for Game Shop Inc. because this industry is an oligopoly and anything that affects your reputation would affect your reputation with all members of the video game industry. We began by analyzing the current billing system. Past errors in the billing process ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The billing scorecards are informative to the PMs and others, however it does not seem to be improving billing timeliness as the grades have not increased significantly on average(insert endnote). The punitive nature of the scorecards (ie. Detention meetings) have the right goal in mind but may cause managers to harbor resentment which most likely would not lead to the desired effect. Since the P Cars focus more on procedures rather than personnel, we will focus our alternatives mainly on procedural aspects as P Cars were the most successful. Alternative 2: Another alternative is to have an IT system that is integrated into the billing system. It can have several advantages and resolve key issues effecting billing accuracy and timeliness. An important flaw that an IT system will help address is efficiency in the billing process. Currently, billing work can only be submitted once a week and reports take too long to download onto a PM s computer. With an integrated system, bill processing time is reduced through automation. Since changes in estimates are common, there can be a lot of paperwork submissions that have to go through the proper channels. Automated entry saves time, money, and can be more accurate. Management is able to update POs quickly and easily. Some customers might not be happy with the current system of receiving POs because they quickly become obsolete. With ... • 10. A Short Story Of A Ghost Story I shall begin my story with an experience I encountered at the age of sixteen at our small town s Latin school. The sweetness of many memories from that time still stirs and touches me with melancholy: dark and well lit alleys, houses and factories, faces and chimes, rooms affluent and comfortable, snug and amenable, the whole town was pregnant with secrets. The realms of day and night, two different universes coming from two opposite poles, mingled during this time. My parents home belonged to one realm. This realm was familiar to me in many ways strictness and love, model behaviour and school. This realm was thriving in clarity, brilliance and purity, polite conversations and good manners. This was the world in which morning hymns were sung and Christmas celebrated. Straight lines and paths led into the future: there was duty, love, forgiveness, good resolutions, wisdom and reverence. If one wanted an unsullied and ordinary life, one made sure one was in league with this world. The other realm, however, was completely different: it smelt different, spoke a different language, promised and demanded different things. This world contained ghost stories, rumours of scandals and servant girls. It was dominated by a loud mixture of horrendous, intriguing, frightful, mysterious things, including slaughterhouses and prisons, drunkards and screeching fishwives, calving cows, horse sinking to their deaths, talks of robberies, murders and suicides. All these wild and cruel, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Analysis Of Gulliver s Travels ( Gt ) By Jonathan Swift... The Unconscious Slavery Under the Declaration of Independence, which was written in the year of 1776, it states that ...all men [are] endowed ... certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happyness (Independence Hall Association). What does it mean to have liberty or freedom? Freedom can be expressed differently based on the person s experiences. This is not the case when someone has everything. Freedom becomes the opposite and people become slaves to their own thoughts. In Gulliver s Travels (GT) by Jonathan Swift, The Known World (TKW) by Edward P. Jones, and in Remainder by Tom McCarthy, these authors demonstrate the power of the mind to enslave someone who would be seen as free based on their size, color, status, and wealth. Swift uses Gulliver, a white and knowledgeable man, to demonstrate the power of the mind to enslave a man who is a giant. While in Lilliput Gulliver had the advantage of being the tallest person in the land. The Lilliputians saw this as an advantage since they could use his size to defeat the neighboring city known as Blefuscu. Size plays a very powerful symbol since the person who has the biggest weapons wins the war. The Lilliputians did not let his size enslave them. The Lilliputians actually enslaved Gulliver to follow their demands. Swift is showing how, although Gulliver does not have to take orders for anyone because of his advantage, he falls under the enslavement of his own mind. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Intel, Monopolies, And Corruption Des Spicer Prof. Cox ENG 1102 9/20/17 Research Paper: Intel, Monopolies, and Corruption Throughout the last 50 or so years, tech companies have risen and fall, gaining fame and power, and marking their names in history book for achieving momentous tasks, often in which can still be seen today. Intel is not an exception to this trend; in fact, the mega corporation is a prime example of what American tech giants look like: Intel has their hand in essentially every market dealing with computer components, from memory and memory controllers, to accelerators, to their main attraction, Central Processing Units, or CPU s, for Desktops, Laptops, and Servers. Not only does Intel have vast reach in the computer component market, but they have complete control of not only their production process, being for the most part self contained. From mining necessary resources, to shipping out their complete products from factories to their recipients, whether that be a store or an OEM. Intel is truly one of the most successful, if not the most successful Tech giant involved with Computer hardware. However, they only got to this place through nefarious actions, such as breaking contracts, playing the courts to their advantage, throwing their weight around, regardless of the legality of it, to meet their bottom lines. Considering that Intel is at such a high position, and has pretty much always existed at a fairly high position in the market, why? This paper will set out to find out the ... • 14. Essay Sir Isaac Newton s Three Laws of Motion We have all heard the story of the apple falling on Newton s head while he was sitting against the tree, thus giving him the sudden idea for the Universal Law of Gravity. This, as I am sure most of us know, is not really what happened. A more accurate version would probably be, Newton observed an apple falling from a tree and started contemplating the physics of the apple s fall. The acceleration experienced by the apple, which started at zero when hanging in the tree, then increased as the apple fell. This as Newton reasoned from his second law of motion, means there must be a force acting upon the apple in order to cause the acceleration, this force we will call gravity. Thus giving us the acceleration due to this force ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From this we are able to tell that if an object is either accelerating or decelerating than an external force must be acting on it even if it is simply the force of gravity, air resistance, or friction. Newton s 2nd Law This is probably the most known of all three of Newton s Laws of motion. * The acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the net force acting on it, while being inversely proportional to its mass. More often though we see this law written as; Fnet = ma Where F equals the net force on the object in Newtons, m equals the mass in kilograms and
  • 15. a equals the acceleration of the object in meters/second^2. Since force is a vector this can be rewritten in three separate equations to take into account direction; Fx = ma, Fy = ma, Fz = ma Fnet = Fx + FY+ Fz We must also remember that acceleration as well is a vector and therefor has three components just like the force. When learning how to use Newton s 2nd Law, however, one usually only uses examples where there is only two directional forces acting on an object. These are usually the x direction (side to side) and the y direction (up and down). For now we are only going to take into account these two components. This law is very useful in the fact we can determine the acceleration of an object if we know the forces acting on it as well as it s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. The Community Treatment Orders ( Cto ) The introduction of Community Treatment Orders (CTO) has raised much debate around the issue of whether this is an ethical practice or not. This debate calls for a number of questions to be answered. For starters, can unethical practice be justified if it is for the greater good? More specifically, should the elimination of individuals rights be accepted if success is to be achieved from these programs. In order to gain insight into answering these questions, Community Treatment Orders need to be defined first. According to the Mental Health Act , a Community Treatment Order sets out terms under which a person must accept psychiatric drugs, therapy, and other services while living in the community (Mental Health Act 2007). In addition, the fact that they are still in operation today supports the idea that change is needed in society. From a political perspective, they are enforced by governments in order to help those who are most vulnerable, to remedy discrimination, and protect the general public (Russell, 2011). As wholehearted as these goals may be in theory, the fact remains that the intended results are not being achieved and civil liberties are being infringed upon. Those opposing the use of CTO s are influenced by three reasons to support their position. The first reason deals with the current evidence base. For starters, international research literature has found no strong evidence on the positive or negative effects of CTO s on three key outcomes. These outcomes are hospital readmissions, length of hospital stay, and patients quality of life (Lawton Smith et al, 2008) Furthermore, a 36 month study of 198 patients concluded that CTO s do not prevent relapse and readmission of psychiatric inmates with severe and enduring mental illnesses . The study showed that results were in line with the current national use (Rugkasa, Yeeles, Koshiaris, Burns, 2016). Analysis Of What We Really Miss About The 1950 s What We Really Miss About The 1950 s An award winning writer and internationally recognized expert on the family, Stephanie Coontz, in her article, What We Really Miss About The 1950 s, states that In a poll by the Knight Ridder News Agency, more Americans chose the 1950 s than any single decade as the best time for children to grow up. However, Coontz has her own view of the 1950s, and she illustrates her own opinions about this decade using strong and logical facts. While the nostalgia of the 1950s is vastly strong in some people, some fail to notice the negativity and the reality of it. The decade of the 1950s represents an era where life was balanced, simple, and innocent. A time in the American history where a high school education promised a comfortable living and where family values were presented to audiences through television shows. In the article, Coontz argues that the simplicity and innocence that the people who lived in this time period enjoyed came at a high price. Coontz claims that generally those who felt that the 1950s was the best time for children to grow up would show their dislike for the treatment of women. They also would add that they would not particularly enjoy living with the most of the fathers they knew in their neighborhoods. She also points out the economic and social reasons why the 1950s is so appealing to quite a lot of people. The Pros And Cons Of Drinking In lieu of having a safe, supervised place to drink in moderation, college students have no choice but to conceal their drinking, behind the closed doors of [dorms] and fraternity basements, (Brown). Captain Yawn from the University of South Florida, Saint Petersburg, stated that, unlawful drinking obviously does take place in the dorm rooms, even though there are no bars on campus to host alcohol related events. Hidden drinking often occurs on college campuses, and the drinking age of 21 makes monitoring illegal drinking much more difficult for college deans. For instance, at a college party, where most students look similar in age, it can be nearly impossible to differentiate between who is drinking legally and who is not. As a result, the enforcement of the drinking age is limited ( Underage Drinking Laws on Campus ). Captain Robert Yawn also stated that, Statutorily, it [lowering the drinking age] would obviously be easier because you would eliminate roughly 75% of the potential offender population, which makes regulating drinking on campus simpler. Many college deans and presidents have expressed their disapproval for the higher drinking age. A main reason many college deans disagree with a drinking age of 21 is that punishing students for underage drinking results in students hiding their drinking instead of limiting it ( Underage Drinking Laws on Campus ). Testing the Causality Between Foreign Direct Investment and Economic Growth Ned R Jackson Utah Valley University March 2015 Abstract This paper looks to determine the causality of foreign direct investment and economic growth. Implementing common and basic econometric techniques to test the association between these two topics in The United Arab Emirates. In past research it has been implicated that FDI has causality in economic growth mainly due to the ability FDI has to introduce new technology to the host country from the foreign countries who are in many cases much more technologically advanced. However, we hope to show that though there may be a stronger causality between FDI to economic growth that there is enough evidence to show that there are cases in which economic growth is the cause for the expansion in FDI that has taken place. =Results from the Solow growth model and Unit root test will allow us to interpret the true relationship between these two economic factors for the United Arab Emirates specifically. Introduction The correlation between foreign direct investment (FDI) and economic growth is well documented see (Borensztein, De Gregorio, J W. Lee 98). • 30. A Relationship Between Physical Properties And Mental... The relationship between the physical and the mental is an issue that philosophers have pondered for centuries, and this issue still remains relevant today. In the attempt to determine the relationship between physical properties and mental properties two schools of thoughts emerged: Monism and Dualism. People who subscribe to monism believe physical properties, such as color and location, as well as mental properties, such as emotions and beliefs, are all one entity. Materialisms, the most popular form of monism, claims that everything mental is also physical. On the other end of the spectrum, Dualists believe that physical and mental properties are two separate entities. This paper will address the merits of interactionist substance dualism (interactionism) and epiphenomenalist property dualism (epiphenomenalism) as well as functionalism which is a type of materialism. The debate between dualism and materialism has retained its relevance today even though most contemporary philosophers believe materialism to be true. This is in large part due to the implications that comes with both views. If dualism is true, this means that there are some things that science will never be able to explain because science only has the ability to explain the physical. Therefore, dualism does not correspond with a scientific worldview which indicates why most scientists and philosophers are reluctant to accept this view.
