How Did Brunelleschi Influence Architecture
In favor of the influence created by the early Renaissance artists, the Renaissance flourished under the
great artists and architects of the High Renaissance. As an architect, Brunelleschi, who was not
necessarily a High Renaissance architect, created a large impact on the architects of that time period,
being one of the first to create a Roman style of architect. Although most of them were started in the
mid 1400 s, many of his works were not finished until the late 1400 s, when many people took up to
his ideals. Because of Brunelleschi, architecture and art could be mathematically calculated through
the use of his most commonly known creation, linear perspective ( Renaissance ). On the opposite
end, a venetian artist by the name of Titian was known for his findings on producing breathtaking
spectrums and variants of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Michelangelo, an italian sculptor and master of art, was better known for his grand sculptures,
including some of the famous ones in the world, such as David and Pieta. Michelangelo s works are
considered bold and mathematically complex. In such case, his works led to a huge fluctuation in the
appreciation of humanistic and natural art, which was already a veering subject for most artists of the
time. Another great of the High Renaissance, Raphael, is appreciated for his frescoes and the powerful
poetic representation exhibited through them, along with his scholarly thinking. He has created some
of the easily most famous paintings in history, including works like The School of Athens, along with
a multitude of religious and nudist art. In the case of perhaps the most famous painter in history,
Leonardo Da Vinci was considered the greatest Renaissance artist. Leonardo was most known for his
extremely complex and concise calculations used for art, along with his great care in the detail of

The Voice Of John Series Multiple People
The Voice of John featured multiple people such, Dr. Alveda King, founder of King of America, Dr.
Georgia Purdom, holder of a PhD in Molecular Genetics, Bodie Hodge, holder of a BS and MS in
Medical Engineering, Dr. Francis Schell, MD, a Pennsylvania representative for Human Life and
women who have had abortions. The Voice of John made the viewer look at abortion through a prism
of countless angles, opinions, and stories that will bring the real truth to light.
At the start of the film, they hit the viewer with a gut wrenching situation that begins in 1977, when a
young nurse was working in the obstetrics unit at a major hospital, where she stumbled upon a LIVE
baby, who was placed in a dirty utility room, left to die! What she didn t understand at the time, was
that Roe vs. Wade had just been passed by the U.S. Supreme Court which ruled in favor of the
legalization of abortions. The staff in the facility scolded her as she tried to explain that a baby was
alive and was in need of help after left to die! After hearing the doctors instructions, she went against
their orders and decided to hold the baby in her arms and listen to his soft whimpers, crying for
survival. As she continued to hold the baby, she decided to baptize him, ultimately saying I name you
John, and I will tell the world what I saw here today. I will be your voice! The film s ultimate purpose
is to convince the viewer and bring about the issues associated with abortion.

Animal Sterilization
Benefits of Sterilization for Companion Animals Everyday young and healthy pets are brought into
animal shelters all across the country either as strays, owner surrenders, or lost pets! Our society has
an overpopulation of dogs and cats who will be homeless in these shelters each year, because of
irresponsible owners not sterilizing them! According to, Monique L. Voelker, she compares the
number of newborn infants to baby animals, as a society we will see 10,000 babies born on the same
day as 70,000 puppies and kittens (Animals Abused and Abandoned; Surviving Against All Odds,
Monique L. Voelker, Science Non Fiction). While these births continue, there simply will not be
enough homes for the animals. By keeping our pets (females) spayed ... Show more content on

Millions of pets start off living their lives this way by being homeless and strays... Facebook has all
kinds of visual aids about what is happening across the world. Beloved family pets are STOLEN,
LOST, or alongside strays who are EVEN KILLED BY CARS DAILY! By NOT spaying or neutering
our pets severe consequences like this occur which is very wrong to ignore! Non profit organizations
throughout the United States of America include special prices or offer free sterilizations to the public
for their furry loved ones. Yet, again no one chooses to do so otherwise, either to breed their pets for
money to make profits or want puppies of their own to keep... Breeders who breed specific types of
dogs, I.e. Labrador Retrievers, German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, etc. for additional law
enforcement and disability services do have good qualities. Although, many of the billion excellent
candidates in shelters are euthanized with no options to be trained for these government services.
Shockingly, most neglected dogs are the BEST suitable ones for training, since they have had the
worst already handed to them. Dogs can sense positive behavior outcomes from training with
professionals. They feel a one way ticket to freedom and happiness at a fresh new start in life!

The Pros And Cons Of A Primary Election System
A primary election is where voters in each state votes for a presidential candidate by
political party. For instance, if you are a registered Democrat within your county, then you only
vote for one democrat candidate in the primary. According the Greenberg book, the primary
system is a related trend has involved more direct elections of government officials, replacing
the old indirect methods (Greenberg 2014, pg. 286). This system is still used today to create a
direct approach to determine which candidate from each party officially won in one state, in
which a state that pledge to a specific candidate from each political party. For example, one
recent official pledge for the 2016 presidential election was in Iowa, in which Cruz won for the
Republicans in that state. Again, these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But in today s system, there is such thing a party caucuses , or
selection of delegates to national party conventions by city or countywide meetings by party
(Greenberg 2014, pg. 287). This will enhance democracy, but it is sometimes an un democratic
Lee 2 feature. So do we think that it is a good system? Because most politicians usually never listen
and
continuously debating, thus creating delays for a solution, I basically have no opinion on that.
However, June primaries are official elimination round, in which one candidate from each party
will run for the November election, so I think that the primary system breaks down to several
candidates into one for each party. Ultimately, the primary system is to create a two party
election, whether it is countywide, statewide, or nationwide, created a major success in the
struggle for democracy (Greenberg 2014, pg. 287). Problems do remain at the polls and also
while processing votes in the county seat, in which can create unexpected official

Experts say many people are dieting because of the government s recent warnings about the U.S.

their weight is a tricky issue. quot;It s a balancing act, because on the one hand, clearly we have
concerns that more and more teenagers are becoming obese, quot; said David Sarwer, associate
professor of psychology and director of education at the Weight and Eating Disorders Program at the

Lockout And Tagout Procedures
Lockout/Tagout is a safety procedure that is used to make sure that dangerous machines are properly
shut off and not started up again until the completion of maintenance or servicing work is finished.
Lockout /tagout procedures are important to employees and employers. The purpose of a
lockout/tagout program is to prevent injuries and unnecessary expenses to a company. Lockout/tagout
procedures and work instructions are created and implemented by employees and employers. Lockout
is the isolation of energy from equipment or a machine with a physical lock. De energization is a
process that is used to cut off a source of energy or separate a system from its source of energy, in
order to stop the discharge of that energy. By de energizing the system, you are eliminating the chance
that the system could accidentally cause harm to a person through movement, or the release of heat,

Companies can be fined if they do not properly train their employee s lockout/tagout procedures.
Companies can also be fined if those procedures are not followed correctly. Over hundreds of workers

a machine being serviced and it is not properly locked and tagged, OSHA may give them a fine.
OSHA penalizes companies for not complying with Lock Out; these fines exceed millions of dollars

Garveyism and Rastafarianism Essay
Garveyism and Rastafarianism
I. Introduction
In the twentieth century, two movements have emerged out of Jamaica in protest of black oppression
and slavery, both mental and physical. The first to evolve was Garveyism, founded by Marcus Garvey,
and was born in the aftermath of the First World War.
Rastafarianism was the second movement to emerge, lead by Leonard Howell during the depression
years of the 1930 s. Garveyism and Rastafarianism are both resistance movements based on the same
ideal: consciousness and essentialism of Africa and its descendants. The founding brethren of the
Rastafari movement were Garveyites themselves, although not members of the Universal Negro

Garvey s aim was to recontextualize particular aspects of seeming irreconcilable systems of
Marxism/Leninism, monarchism, and even of National Socialism for the African of Africa American
experience (Zips, 224). Garvey did not feel restricted by established political ideologies, instead he
felt free to pick out the best attributes of every government. Ultimately, Garveyism hoped to develop
the African continent into a modern network of nations, modeling it after the United States and
Western Europe (Lewis, 146).
Garvey established the UNIA in Jamaica in the year 1914, two years later he left for the United States
in order to gain more momentum for his movement and spread the African unity he had started in
Jamaica. Before leaving Jamaica, Garvey made a prophecy of sorts to his followers: Look into Africa
for the crowning of a black king. He shall be the Redeemer (Barrett, 67). From this prediction stems
most of the discrepancy between Garveyites and Rastafarians, something I will discuss later in this
paper.
The four main themes that the Garvey movement was built upon were 1) Africa for Africans at home
and abroad, 2) unity, 3) self reliance, and 4) retaining their black pride in the presence of whites
(Chevannes, 95). Garvey brought this ideology with him to the United States where he founded an
American branch of the UNIA in 1917 and furthered his initiatives

Tampa Museum Of Art
Back in my school years I used to visit many historical museums, where I learned a lot about the
culture and society of the past. As I have always been interested in history and arts, all that was a
breathtaking experience for me. I believe that these museums is the best way to get closer to lives of
our ancestries and it can help us to see the world in a different way. However, to be more
knowledgeable about the world we live in, it s also extremely important to be familiar with modern
art. So this time I decided to experience something new and started searching for a museum which
would contain works of contemporary artists. Tampa Museum of Art was a great option. This Museum

wanted at that moment is night to come so I could see thousands of colored lights reflected in the
surface of the river that flows near the museum. What s more, I liked the design of the museum inside
as well. There were white walls and perfect lighting, and nothing would bother contemplation. In
many museums I have visited before there was a lot of distractions, but in this museum everything
was done on the principle of simplicity, and that was very pleasing to me. Moreover, when we came
inside of the museum, it was almost empty. There were just a few visitors, who were fascinated by
various drawings and statues. Most of the visitors were teenagers, what slightly surprised me. I

Periodontal Discrepancy Essay
Occlusal discrepancy is just a difference in the way teeth normally fit together. Some examples would
be overjet, overbite, open bite, cross bite, and under bite. It has been found that these occlusal
discrepancies may play a role in the progression of periodontal diseases. Some research has been done
on the relationship of these two aspects but it is very controversial and more research needs to be
performed before a definite answer can be provided. Many researchers have studied where or not
occlusion has a connection with progression of periodontal disease but it has been very controversial.

Domestic Violence, Maternal Depression, And Home Environment
As seen in the previous studies, children living in domestic violent homes not only have to face the
direct violence that is happening at the moment, but also have to face the indirect change that is
brought after the violence has occurred. Using a sample of 100 women and their children ages 3 5, the
study conducted by Huth Bocks, Levendosky, and Semel (2001) examined maternal psychological
functioning and its impact of the quality of the home environment in a domestic violent household.
After observing these indirect variables, assessments were made to determine if domestic violence had
indirect affects on children s intellectual functioning (Huth Bocks, Levendosky, Semel, 2001). The
three independent variables that were used in this study to determine the outcome (intellectual
functioning) were: domestic violence, maternal depression, and home environment (Huth Bocks, et
al., 2001). The Severity of Violence Against Women Scales measured domestic violence from 0 to 3
(never, once, a few times, many times). The Beck Depression Inventory was used to measure the
severity of maternal depression that women experienced due to the domestic violence. The Home
Observation for Measurement of the Environment was used to measure the quality of the home
environment. Finally, the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test Revised (PPVT R) was used to measure
children s receptive vocabulary along with the Block Design subtest of the Wechsler Preschool and

Power in International Relations
The conception is power in International Relations is a key to a better understanding of the discipline.
In many cases the definition of power affects the way in which many issues are tackled in foreign
policy or security. There are many theories that try to deal with the conception of power, however they
make a rather large number of assumptions that might make them difficult to applicable in real life.
Furthermore many of them does not take into consideration that power evolves, therefore if we want
to understand and conceptualize power in the international sphere it is crucial to analyze different
theories and conceptions of it.This essay will argue that power is a broad term that can best be
conceptualized and explained in IR by a multiplicity of theories. In making this argument, this essay
will first explain why power power is crucial in the study of International Relations. Then two theories
of power from the realist tradition , one of the neoliberalist tradition, one of postmodernism and a
critical theory of realism will be outlined. This theories of power will be explained and compared in
order to create a complete conceptualization of the term power than can be applied to the twentieth
first century
The realist view of International Relations explains that power is crucial for International Relations
because every state is in the pursuit of it. Furthermore the words power and powerful are used very
often in the international spectrum, however a definition of it

The Development of Labor Unions Essay
During the Victorian age, and up until about the 20s, labor unions were new developments. They had
existed before, but on a much smaller scale. The labor unions that did exist were all vastly different.
Some were conservative, while others were extremely radical. The Industrial Workers of the World are
an example of a more radical group, while the American Federation of Labor is more conservative.
The two unions had contrasting opinions to the point of conflict between the groups. As well as having
differing opinions, the groups had differing motives and ways of achieving their goals. The Industrial

The American Federation of Labor was quite different from the IWW. The AFL was exclusive, letting
only skilled workers join the union, but did not discriminate based on race or gender. Although the
union was nondiscriminatory, they would turn the other way when blacks were excluded from the
group. Similarly, women were treated the same way. Many times they were not the main focus of the
group, and were only supported half heartedly. The motives of the group were to have higher wages,
and a shorter workday. The American Federation of Labor supported their causes for workers rights by
boycotting businesses, and having businesses that were for union workers only. The AFL believed that
capitalism was the way towards bettering the workplace. Supporting capitalism was one of the major
reasons the IWW had conflicts with the group.
The AFL s conservative beliefs, and exclusive union created conflict between themselves and the
IWW, who were radical and open to all members. The two groups had beliefs that were completely
opposite, and the groups were unable to cooperate. Due to the conflict between them, the founder of
the AFL made it so that no one in the IWW could work at American Federation of Labor industries.
Because the IWW were banned from AFL industries, the group began to target the people who were
not helped by the AFL. The group went to the neglected, and sought after them to give them hope. The

Computers Can Not Have Minds
Alan Turing, father of modern computers, created the Turing Machine in order to prove, through the
use of an imitation game, that computers can think. John Searle argued that the Turing Test is simply
just imitating, rather than thinking. Based on Searle s argument against the Turing Test, I think that
computers cannot have minds. Although Turing argues that computers can think, there are many
arguments, such as Searle s Chinese room argument, and defenses that I will present that support
Searle and his belief that computers do not understand the information they simulate and cannot think.
As stated above, the purpose of the Turing Machine is to prove that computers can think. A Turing
Machine is composed of a scanner with a tape made of paper running through it. This paper tape is
divided into squares. Each square on the tape contains a symbol, either a 0 of a 1. The machine, along
with two humans, will participate in an imitation game. Human A and the Turing Machine are hidden
from view of Human B and have a conversation in order for Human B to try to determine which of the
communicators is a robot, if either one is a robot. The machine s goal is to trick Human B into
thinking it (the machine) is the human. Turing states that if the machine is successful, then the
machine does have a mind. Turing s machine has the ability to answer any question presented to it,
and Turing saw this ability as a sign of extreme intelligence. On the other hand, Searle argued that this

Polymer Weight Averages And Molecular Distribution
Part:C A 1: Polymer weight averages and molecular distribution: There are two types of molecular
averages from which we can , the number average and weight average, which can we calculate by
knowing the number of molecules and that weight fractions in the polymer. If we are given numbers
of molecules with their molecular weights. Then we can calculate number average molecular weight
(Mn) and weight average molecular weight (Mw). From that, we can get polydispersity index and
know it is monodispersed or not. Suppose, we are given number of molecules (Ni) and molecular
weight of those molecules (Mi), Number average molecular weight Weight average molecular weight
Polydispersity index (PDI) = If PDI = 1 then mixture is homogeneous And if PDI 1 then mixture is
heterogeneous We can draw molecular weight distribution by taking the molecular weight (M) on the
X axis and Number of molecules (N) on Y axis or vice versa. Figure (1) is the molecular weight
distribution. Cross linking in polymer: When two or more molecular chains chemically react with each
other and make covalent bonds between them which are called cross linking. It makes polymers high
dense. Cross linking decreases free volume, so it is difficult for molecular chains to spread out which
makes its Tg range broadened compared to amorphous polymers. Cross linking prevents the polymer
from melting and strengthens rigidity of polymers and provides high tensile strength. Figure (2) shows

The Inhumanity Of Animal Testing
Would you like to see animals suffer everyday because of a lab test? Just imagine seeing pictures and
videos of harmless animals being tested and tortured for human benefits. A research by Cruelty Free
International and Dr. Hadwen Trust estimates about 115 million animals are being used in experiments
all around the world each year. Animal testing should be prohibited and not be used for research. The
reasons are that the method of animal testing is very cruel and inhumane. Also most experiments that
scientists conduct, do not work and the life of an animal is wasted.
The method of using animals for lab testing is very cruel and inhumane. Studies show that when an
animal is in a laboratory, it feels lonely, trapped, isolated, and the animal is in complete misery. One
shocking fact is that the U.S law allows animals to be tortured and killed. They allow scientists to do
whatever they want to the animal to reach their goal. The scientists force the animals to drink
chemicals and many other things that can be harmful to them and that later ends up damaging many
parts of the animal s body. Even after the animals endure all the pain, they get put back into their cage
without having anything to stop the pain. Many animals are in danger of losing their lives due to the
cruelty and inhumanity of animal testing in labs.
Most of these experiments performed on animals do not work and their life is wasted. Dr. Michael

Masters of Illusions Monocular Cues Essay
The Renaissance was a time of cultural movement occurring from the 14th century to the 17th century,
it brought along with it a new view of art and literature. Many of today s famous artists came from the

How Copyright Law Was Established, And How The...
Nowadays, most of American institutions require the students to sign the plagiarism form before
attending the class in order to prevent their students from taking somebody s work without giving
credits. I believe intellectual laws are as important as any other law because it defines the ethical
aspect of the three core values of the United States of America liberty, freedom and democracy.
Copyright law is an intellectual law that grants ownership to the author and protects the author from
copyright infringement. This paper will discuss how copyright law was established, and how the
establishment influences advertising. I begin by examining the history of copyright before it became a
constitutional law. I will also explain why the copyright is protected under the First Amendment. After
that, I will interpret some significant copyright acts that had been established since it first started, but
my main focus will be on the role of fair use in the Copyright Act of 1976, which set up the primary
basis for the copyright laws in the United States. The investigation will demonstrate how fair use
relates to copyright matters in advertising, or commercial speech . The conclusion will emphasize the
significance of fair use in advertising.
The copyright law in America originated in the fifteenth century after England introduced the use of
the printing press. Due to the growth in the number of printing presses, the authorities began to seek

You should choose your kitchen utensils for enameled cast iron cookware very carefully, not because
it is particularly prone to scratching, because it is not, but because it tends to chip if banged. Chipping
of enameled cookware occurs when the enamel surface is shocked sufficiently to break the bond with
the metal This type of cookware is becoming very popular again, largely because of the bright colors
and designs in which it is available, unlike the dark raw cast iron versions that look unexciting even
though they appear traditional and functional. Another reason is that is easy to clean, and tends to look

Essay on Technology Opportunities in Transportation
The purpose of this paper is to illustrate three technology opportunities associated with the
transportation and logistics industry. With today s constantly evolving business environment,
consumers are placing demand on businesses of all industries, and they want products and services
faster, with more added value, and delivered immediately. Nevertheless, customers are smarter by
requiring more quality, innovation, and choice, and at the same time wanting to spend less money and
effort. Consequently, every transportation business has to remain highly competitive in researching
and developing innovative cost cutting techniques in order to save money.
Radio Frequency Identification, or RFID for short, is a relatively old technology that ... Show more

These trucks compete for roughly 300,000 parking spots located throughout the country. While
parked, especially in locations of extreme hot or cold, these trucks are typically found idling while the
driver is resting. In addition to being a home away from home for the truck drivers, they idle for a
variety of reasons. These include keeping the fuel and engine warm, for the driver s resting comfort, to
mask out other noises, and for safety (Keller). Unfortunately, while they are idling, the engine is
consuming diesel fuel at a time when oil prices are at their highest. It has been calculated that every
hour a truck idles unnecessarily is equivalent to 8 10 miles of on road driving (Keller). Although it is
necessary for the drivers to idle, it has been a major concern in terms of wasted fuel within the
trucking industry, costing them 3 billion gallons of fuel every year.
Several different technologies have been introduced to combat the wasted fuel and reduce or eliminate
truck idling times. One such advancement is an electrified parking space (EPS) for the drivers. The
electrified parking space allows the driver a parking spot (for rest, sleep, etc.) and an oversized power
cord that allows the truck to plug into electric grids to power their cabins. This enables a clean energy
source from the power grid, and reduces the driver s need to

Bourdieu s Theory Of Cultural Development
Pierre Bourdieu s cultural reproduction has transformed as well as influenced the literature field,
following Alice Sullivan s statement on the successful results of Bourdieu s theory: Bourdieu s theory
of cultural reproduction has been highly influential, and has generated a great deal of literature, both
theoretical and empirical (144). According to Bourdieu s theory, based on his book Distinction: A
Social Critique of the Judgment of Taste, makes the declaration that higher levels of education will
result in perceiving and comprehending the world around them much differently than a person with a
much lower educational level. Bourdieu s theory attributes this claim to the terms: cultural capital,
cultural arbitrary and habitus, which are developed through education and rationalize how the higher
social classes are made up of these different forms of capital. Also, this critical analysis of these
different forms of capitals has been one of Bourdieu s major contributions to the study of educational
processes: The concept of cultural capital is one of Pierre Bourdieu s major contributions to the study
and critical analysis of educational processes and the ways in which they are associated with socially
unequal outcomes (Moore 445). Given the success of Bourdieu s theory in both literature and
education, Bourdieu s theory of cultural reproduction can be found in many genres of literature
including the Latin American literature piece of Doña Bárbara. The novel presents

Differences Between And Then There Were None And A Wrinkle...
In the movie productions of And Then There Were None and A Wrinkle In Time, the directors did not
follow the original storyline of the book. There are many differences between the books and the
movies, but there is also similarities. While most of the movie follows the storyline, there are some
changes made to the storyline. These changes made in the movie impacted the storyline a lot.
In A Wrinkle In Time, one of the biggest differences from the book is the plot sequencing in the
movie. The movie first starts with Meg at school daydreaming about her father and her talking with
each other on their stargazing rock, where in the book it starts with Meg talking about the
thunderstorm. Another difference is, in the middle of the movie, Meg meets ... Show more content on

In the book, Vera accuses Lombard of being the killer and shoots him, she then goes and hangs
herself. The real killer, Wargrave, puts a confession letter in a bottle and throws it into the sea. He then
takes a pill that kills him. In the movie, none of this happens. Vera and Lombard become lovers and
trust that each other are not the killer, but to follow the nursery rhyme Lombard asks Vera to fire the
gun and he will fall to his knees to trick the killer. When she goes in the house, her room is set up for
her to hang herself and Wargrave is sitting there. Lombard comes in to hear Wargrave confessing to
the killing. Wargrave takes the pill that kills him to leave Vera and Lombard there to look like the
killers. The driver of the boat, Fred Narracott, comes in and asks where the other guests are. Vera and
Lombard tell Narracott to call for them, while they run off. The movie then ends, but from there you
could predict that they took the boat and went off. That was the biggest difference made to the movie,
but a similarity is that when each guest died another Indian figurine went

The Day Rosa Parks Theme
The theme in All Summer in a Day and The Day Rosa Parks was arrested are similar. The theme that
they share is Stand up for what you believe in. In both the story, and the drama there is that one person
that does not want to be treated the that other people are treating them. It s just like in All Summer in a
Day the girl, Margot believed that the sun was going to come up, but everyone else didn t believe her,
so they made fun of her because of what she believed in. In The Day Rosa Parks was Arrested a white
man told Rosa Parks to get up so he could sit down. She didn t get up. He told her to get up again, or
he will get the police officer, she didn t get up. Even when the officer took her to jail, she still stood up
for what she believed in. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You can also learn something from them. In conclusion, if you say something, but someone else say s
different, then don t worry about what they say believe in what you say, and just stand up for what you
believe in. What you believe in, and what the other person believes in may both be correct. You will
never know, but just always stand up for what you believe in. Rosa Parks didn t want to be treated the
way she was being treated, so she stood up for herself, and everyone of the colored people. Margot did
not want to be treated the way she was being treated, just because she was different. So what she did
was stood up for herself, and believed in herself. Rosa Parks, and Margot didn t care what anyone else
thought of what they were doing. They just believed in themselves, and stood up for what they
believed in. The authors Lauren Tarshis, and Ray Bradbury wrote different things one was a story and

Panama s Violation Of Human Rights Violated
People that live in Panama and that go in and out of Panama are getting their Human Rights Violated.
The Government has caused many of these incidents such as people being tortured in prisons just
because the officers have the authority to. Although all of these problems happened because Panama
doesn t have a president. They have a dictator and the dictator just uses the army to stop the
Panamanian people to revolt against their leader. The dictator of Panama has allowed members of the
army to go into prisons and if any of the prisoners are acting up, use force to stop them. But those
members in the army take advantage and beat the prisoners severely. That s breaking their human

But many of these journalists are being denied to go into the country and some of them are allowed
into the country but they aren t allowed to meeting that the dictator will have with other officials. It
happened in other countries as well and progressed its way to Panama. This summer, Bertoni
submitted a report to the inter American Commission on Human Rights documenting a program run
by the Colombian government to protect journalists. The report said hundreds of journalists had
benefited from the program but that it needed more political support and a larger budget. (Boustany).
Other countries were having the same problem with journalists going into the country when they are
allowed to, then they are just denied and left with no information. Other countries such as Argentina
and Chile are discussing about making same laws for the journalists and how they can prevent form
their human rights being violated. Civil society is responsible for these new laws. All we did was
advocate it and give support while the process was underway. (Boustany). Society is the cause for this
because people such as the dictator, make sure that these things don t happen and then the government

Healing Ministry Reflection Paper
3. HEALING AND ITS INSIGHTS
3.1 Introduction
Jesus willingness to cross boundaries, to touch, cleanse and eat with people brings life and hope to the
one who had none. The common people flock to Jesus, believing that he can help them. He never
turned aside from the call of suffering. Unfailing readiness to help the afflicted was his mission. The
story in our Text inspires us to reflect about the need of humanity to be healed and to heal. It carries
the good news for every aspect of our life for different occasions, different contexts and different
times. It is not enough that the hemorrhaging woman should be healed; she needs to be truly
integrated back into the society. It is not enough to give life alone but to help to sustain the life. It
bestows a very strong need of God s healing touch to each individual s belief, attitudes and values to
transform and reshape one s faith and idea about following Jesus in order to become a healing
presence in the life of others. It also can make an immense change in the Church. And all the more in
the present context the concept of health and wholeness needs to be highlighted in different levels.
Therefore, I would like to bring out this concept in the present scenario with special reference to my
limited experience in the healing ministry.
3.2 Individual Level
When we speak of the spiritual life or life of wholeness in our individual level, we don t speak of
experiences that are unrelated to our bodies. God s Spirit touches

Conflict Resolution and the Australian Contract Law
Conflict Resolution and Australian Contract Law
Introduction: Australian contract law is based on Common Law as originated from the British
tradition. However, as noted by Australian Government (2012), said law is currently under review and
subject to evolution in the near future. This will be some relevance to the discussion hereafter, which
considers the implications of a contract between the parties of JG (the represented) and ITMS (the
representation) and further consider the implications of a conflict arising over this contract.
Conflict Experience: Briefly, the conflict experience delineated in the case history concerns the
signing of Australian women s tennis player JG with management and marketing firm ITMS with the
intention that the latter would help secure marketing and sponsorship opportunities for the former. As
JG continued to perform well in her responsibilities as a rising tennis star elevating her rank and
achieving a relatively singular status in the field of Australian women s tennis her management firm
failed to capitalize on the opportunities newly available to her. According to the case history, in 2010,
JG had her most successful year on the Women s Tennis Association (WTA) tour finishing the year
ranked 42 in the world. During the period of 2010, no further business opportunities were presented to
JG by ITMS. Meanwhile, Australia s two other top players were increasing their profile, through
endorsements, within both the international and

Icehotel Culture
People travel to escape society s harsh reality or to experience life and what this beautiful world has to
offer. It s important to keep oneself cultured because it allows us humans to better understand one
another. Jukkasjarvi, Sweden is a melting pot for culture; its name derived from the sami s word for
meeting place. The Icehotel is a true winter wonderland; it s straight out of a fantasy beds, chairs,
tables and glasses everything is made of ice. The icehotel is located in the northern parts of sweden.
The torne river is a essential to supplying the ice hotel with snow and ice, there was a igloo named the
Arctic hall which featured art displays, films and church services. A guest asked to sleep in the Arctic
hall and the staff gave them reindeer skins and sleeping bags, the guest was thrilled with the the night
that s when Yngve Bergqvist came up with the idea of The Icehotel(Icehotel). The founder of The
Icehotel Yngve Bergqvist got the idea for the hotel from a guest he was inspired by a tradition of
japanese ice sculpting he then found japanese artist and made them instructors for artist he invites the
the hotel. To make sure the hotel was safe Bergqvist had a survival group of swedish armed forces to
see if sleeping 5° C (23° F) was possible and the group was thrilled that it was and it has been thrilling
for guest for years(Icehotel). Icehotel s founder Yngve Bergqvist was a self proclaimed cultural
entrepreneur. Almost every person that resided in Jukkasjarvi was once or is a miner, Bergqvist was on
a assessment on iron ore about 16.0934 km away from Kiruna. Bergqvist noticed the beauty and the
purity of the ice and snow, but he didn t just start out with the ice hotel; he started smaller with a 2690
square feet igloo. After the igloo stage he started creating the 6,456 square feet Icehotel. Doors made
of ice literally everything made of ice (Bortz). doors to instruments made of ice and wires that glow
blue are laid all over the hotel to give it more of a cool tone of color. There are very few places to get

In some cultures, multitasking is for intelligent people; similarly, in Saudi Arabia, women practice
multitasking to show how they are smart and hardworking. It is one of the stereotyping that seems
fascinating for most of Saudi people. Although multitasking has positive effects, it has negative
consequences. To be more specific, multitasking consists of productive and powerless situations that
has relationship between multitasking and health. One of the significant benefit from multitasking is
the enjoyment. People who seek different activities to express relaxation find multitasking is the
energetic solution to get satisfaction. For example, a large number of students prefer to study at coffee

School Is Bad For Children By John Holt
This nation s best and strongest leaders attended school as children. Leaders such as John F. Kennedy
and Franklin D. Roosevelt ( School House to White House ). Can their success as leaders be attributed
to school? Or would they have been successful without that education? School is where they were
inspired and pushed to their limits. The challenges of studying various subjects, completing
homework, forming new ideas, participating in extracurricular activities, and making friends are part
of the common heritage of an American education shared by everyone including our Presidents (
School House to White House ). In John Holt s School is Bad for Children Holt makes a plea to free
children from the classroom (Preface). He outlines several ways that America s education system is
harming children and introduces several ways he believes it can be improved. Although Holt makes a
few logical arguments, his essay lacks credibility and his ideas to abolish school attendance, to always
have paired learning, and to end fixed curriculum (leave much to be argued)
Holt makes several assumptions and talks of schools that do certain things but he never uses evidence
to back up what he says. This makes his essay less credible because it is only written from his
experiences and his opinion. Holt says, In a school I know of... (Holt 75), ... a number of schools...
(Holt 75), and In many schools... he can t even talk to them at lunch (Holt 73). Who are these schools?

What Is The Mood Of The Short Happy Life Of Francis Macomber
In Ernest Hemingway s short story, ¨The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber,¨ readers learn about
Francis character through the perspectives of other characters. Hemingway develops Francis character
as a man full of shame, cowardice, and bravery by using multiple perspectives as he threads a negative
tone throughout the story.
Topic Sentence: A characteristic of Francis that is developed through the short story is shamefulness.
Example Wilson Perspective: Francis brings shame upon himself when he continually asks Wilson to
not talk about the lion. Wilson furthers the shamefulness by saying ¨I m a professional hunter. We
never talk about our clients¨ (Page 4)

She brings shame and pain upon her husband by hinting to him that he was not the actual one that
killed the lion. Margaret uses the lion hunt as a way to mentally bully and harm Francis as she has
done in the past to show she is the one that controls their relationship.
Transition sentence: The narrator also contributes to tell about and bring shamefulness into the life of
Francis Macomber
Evidence Narrator:Sometimes Hemingway uses the narrator to further develop characteristics, such as
on page 1, The gun bearers had taken no part in the demonstration.
Explanation: The gun bearers do not verbally bring shame into Francis life, however they do bring
shame into his life by their actions. They brings shame to Francis because they know what really
happened with the lion hunt. The gun bearers not congratulating him for the kill plays a major role in
the story and the unmanliness Mr.Macomber experienced through his life.
Conclusion sentence: Hemingway s craft of repetition creates shame for Francis. Repetition creates
shame for Francis because he is constantly looked down from his wife and Wilson. By using multiple
characters to portray this character trait, it further explains and shows the true meaning of this

Reap What You Sow in Silas Marner by George Eliot Essay
The definition of fate is the development of events beyond a person s control. It is regarded as
something determined by a supernatural power, but I believe otherwise. In fact, I believe the exact
opposite. I believe that people do in fact have the power to manipulate their fate; Based on the good or
bad choices they ve made in the past. The novel Silas Marner by George Eliot , helps to explain this.
Through the actions of three major characters Dunstan Cass, Godfrey Cass, and Silas Marner. These
characters were chosen because they all made good or bad choices throughout the novel with a clear
punishment or reward; Or in other words these characters show how they control their fate based on
previous actions or choices. To begin with, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If he never made the choice of robbing Silas, he never would ve fell into the pit. This is only what he
deserves for being selfish and full of spite. Dunstan clearly shows that you can control your fate based
on the good or bad choices you make. Obviously, Godfrey s choices determined his fate. Godfrey had
the choice to tell the truth. He was given this opportunity during breakfast with his father. Instead of
telling his father the real reason why he gave the rent money to Dunstan, he says, I wouldn t have
spent the money myself, but Dunsey bothered me, and I was a fool and let him have it (69). He could
ve told the truth and relieve himself of Dunstan. Next, Godfrey had the choice to admit that Eppie is
his child. This chance arrived at Silas s cottage when he took a look at Molly Farrens body. The right
thing to do there was to take Eppie from Silas like a good father would ve. Instead, he says to Silas,
Let me give you something towards finding it clothes (120). Godfrey was thinking only of getting
Eppie out of the way, so that he could continue courting Nancy Lammeter. He put himself over his
own daughter just to get what he wants. All of the sudden, 16 years later, Godfrey goes to ask Eppie to
live with him. Eppie declined his request with all due respect. As she says, Thank you, ma am thank

The Beauty and Danger of Barangay Loyola Heights
Whether you are driving from C.P. Garcia, Commonwealth or White Plains, you can tell where you
are by spotting the towering buildings of Berkeley Residences or SM Blue. When you happen to drive

there either with a handful of papers to work on or just hanging out with their friends or colleagues,

Meanwhile, Katipunan Avenue is a long stretch of buildings and institutions where higher educational
facilities and residential areas are situated and where students and businessmen flock for meetings and
the latest hangout places. Other areas of Barangay Loyola Heights like Esteban Abada St. and

number of dormitories and high rise condominiums that cater students of nearby universities is

How Was Mahatma Gandhi Justified
Many people remember Mahatma Gandhi as a hero who died fighting for the rights of the Indian
people. On January 30th, Mahatma Gandhi was fatally shot at a mansion where he usually held his
multi faith prayer meetings. He was murdered by Nathuram Godse, an extreme Hindu fanatic who
believed Gandhi was against the Hindu cause. I do not believe that Gandhi s assassination was
justified. His death was not justified because he was determined to change India for the better. He
continued to stimulate his beliefs and faith peacefully, and played a major role in India s
Independence. Some feel as though Gandhi exploited Hindus and his death was justified. However,
Gandhi was only making the world a better place peacefully and did nothing to deserve his death.
When Gandhi was a child, you would never imagine him as a powerful leader who would fight for his
beliefs peacefully. As a child, he was very unremarkable and timid. During his teenage years, he began
to rebel. He started smoking, drinking, and stealing, all of which went against his faith. When Gandhi
was 18, his parents sent him off to London to study law. He returned back to India only to struggle
finding a job, and to find out his mother had died weeks before his return. It was not until Gandhi
travelled to South Africa and experienced racial discrimination and segregation to begin his lifelong
journey to fight for the Indian s rights. Mahatma Gandhi became known as the Father of India for his

Rhetorical Analysis Of Anti-Smoking Adverts
Anti smoking ads can be found all over the internet and TV . I choose an anti smoking ad where an
African American male walks into a general store and has to pull out a tooth to receive his pack of
cigarettes. I stumbled upon this ad when watching YouTube, it was an ad. This advertisement is
effective in achieving its purpose of spreading awareness of what smoking does to young adults
because it visually shows a man pulling out his tooth just for a pack of cigarettes. This ad uses logos,
ethos, and pathos to persuade the audience their argument. It uses pathos when the man is actually
pulling out his tooth, this brings the feeling of disgust for those watching. Logos is present when the
narrator says what smoking causes such as cancer and other diseases. Then finally ethos is also present
because the commercial is being put online by the FDA. Pathos is present from the very beginning of
the commercial. Pathos is shown when the opening scene is the outside of general store sometime in
the evening. This made me and possibly many other viewers uncomfortable because nothing happens
at night in a general store that is good. The next time that pathos is used is when the man at the
counter says, That s not enough when the African American male places down his money and I.D and
asked for pack of cigarettes. The scene makes me super uncomfortable at just the thought of someone
pulling out their tooth with a pair of pliers. Not only is he pulling his tooth out but they put in

Satire In The Entertainment Industry
Why is it that people are so attracted to all forms of entertainment? Is there a greater purpose behind
all those hours spent glued to screens? In the media, satirical entertainment has emerged as a force
revealing truths. Merriam Webster defines satire as a literary work holding up human vices and follies
to ridicule or scorn . The role of satire in the entertainment industry is to expose the weaknesses and
corruption in society. Entertainment does not have the capacity to ruin society; entertainment simply
reflects society because it engages and appeals to the common experiences of the audience.
Throughout civilization, entertainment is used to reveal the true nature of individuals. It can only be
assumed that those who object to satirical forms of entertainment must have faults that they fear will
be brought to light. Prominent figures in the nineteenth and twentieth century despised satire. Rulers
during those times were cautious of entertainment dissolving the ties of our social order through
citizens recognizing the corruption around them and rebelling. A form of entertainment that has been
around for centuries is the political cartoon. Political cartoons utilize parody and caricature in an effort
to interest and educate an audience. Throughout history, these cartoons have been used to ... Show

  • 2. How Did Brunelleschi Influence Architecture In favor of the influence created by the early Renaissance artists, the Renaissance flourished under the great artists and architects of the High Renaissance. As an architect, Brunelleschi, who was not necessarily a High Renaissance architect, created a large impact on the architects of that time period, being one of the first to create a Roman style of architect. Although most of them were started in the mid 1400 s, many of his works were not finished until the late 1400 s, when many people took up to his ideals. Because of Brunelleschi, architecture and art could be mathematically calculated through the use of his most commonly known creation, linear perspective ( Renaissance ). The Voice of John made the viewer look at abortion through a prism of countless angles, opinions, and stories that will bring the real truth to light. At the start of the film, they hit the viewer with a gut wrenching situation that begins in 1977, when a young nurse was working in the obstetrics unit at a major hospital, where she stumbled upon a LIVE baby, who was placed in a dirty utility room, left to die! What she didn t understand at the time, was that Roe vs. Wade had just been passed by the U.S. Supreme Court which ruled in favor of the legalization of abortions. The staff in the facility scolded her as she tried to explain that a baby was alive and was in need of help after left to die! After hearing the doctors instructions, she went against their orders and decided to hold the baby in her arms and listen to his soft whimpers, crying for survival. As she continued to hold the baby, she decided to baptize him, ultimately saying I name you John, and I will tell the world what I saw here today. I will be your voice! According the Greenberg book, the primary system is a related trend has involved more direct elections of government officials, replacing the old indirect methods (Greenberg 2014, pg. 286). • 9. Garveyism and Rastafarianism Essay Garveyism and Rastafarianism I. Introduction In the twentieth century, two movements have emerged out of Jamaica in protest of black oppression and slavery, both mental and physical. The first to evolve was Garveyism, founded by Marcus Garvey, and was born in the aftermath of the First World War. Rastafarianism was the second movement to emerge, lead by Leonard Howell during the depression years of the 1930 s. Garveyism and Rastafarianism are both resistance movements based on the same ideal: consciousness and essentialism of Africa and its descendants. The founding brethren of the Rastafari movement were Garveyites themselves, although not members of the Universal Negro Improvement Asscioation (UNIA), they agreed with and defended ... Garvey s aim was to recontextualize particular aspects of seeming irreconcilable systems of Marxism/Leninism, monarchism, and even of National Socialism for the African of Africa American experience (Zips, 224). Garvey did not feel restricted by established political ideologies, instead he felt free to pick out the best attributes of every government. Ultimately, Garveyism hoped to develop the African continent into a modern network of nations, modeling it after the United States and Western Europe (Lewis, 146). Garvey established the UNIA in Jamaica in the year 1914, two years later he left for the United States in order to gain more momentum for his movement and spread the African unity he had started in Jamaica. Before leaving Jamaica, Garvey made a prophecy of sorts to his followers: Look into Africa for the crowning of a black king. He shall be the Redeemer (Barrett, 67). From this prediction stems most of the discrepancy between Garveyites and Rastafarians, something I will discuss later in this paper. The four main themes that the Garvey movement was built upon were 1) Africa for Africans at home and abroad, 2) unity, 3) self reliance, and 4) retaining their black pride in the presence of whites (Chevannes, 95). Garvey brought this ideology with him to the United States where he founded an American branch of the UNIA in 1917 and furthered his initiatives ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As I have always been interested in history and arts, all that was a breathtaking experience for me. I believe that these museums is the best way to get closer to lives of our ancestries and it can help us to see the world in a different way. However, to be more knowledgeable about the world we live in, it s also extremely important to be familiar with modern art. Some examples would be overjet, overbite, open bite, cross bite, and under bite. It has been found that these occlusal discrepancies may play a role in the progression of periodontal diseases. Some research has been done on the relationship of these two aspects but it is very controversial and more research needs to be performed before a definite answer can be provided. Domestic Violence, Maternal Depression, And Home Environment As seen in the previous studies, children living in domestic violent homes not only have to face the direct violence that is happening at the moment, but also have to face the indirect change that is brought after the violence has occurred. Using a sample of 100 women and their children ages 3 5, the study conducted by Huth Bocks, Levendosky, and Semel (2001) examined maternal psychological functioning and its impact of the quality of the home environment in a domestic violent household. After observing these indirect variables, assessments were made to determine if domestic violence had indirect affects on children s intellectual functioning (Huth Bocks, Levendosky, Semel, 2001). The three independent variables that were used in this study to determine the outcome (intellectual functioning) were: domestic violence, maternal depression, and home environment (Huth Bocks, et al., 2001). The Severity of Violence Against Women Scales measured domestic violence from 0 to 3 (never, once, a few times, many times). The Beck Depression Inventory was used to measure the severity of maternal depression that women experienced due to the domestic violence. The Home Observation for Measurement of the Environment was used to measure the quality of the home environment. In many cases the definition of power affects the way in which many issues are tackled in foreign policy or security. There are many theories that try to deal with the conception of power, however they make a rather large number of assumptions that might make them difficult to applicable in real life. Furthermore many of them does not take into consideration that power evolves, therefore if we want to understand and conceptualize power in the international sphere it is crucial to analyze different theories and conceptions of it.This essay will argue that power is a broad term that can best be conceptualized and explained in IR by a multiplicity of theories. In making this argument, this essay will first explain why power power is crucial in the study of International Relations. Then two theories of power from the realist tradition , one of the neoliberalist tradition, one of postmodernism and a critical theory of realism will be outlined. This theories of power will be explained and compared in order to create a complete conceptualization of the term power than can be applied to the twentieth first century The realist view of International Relations explains that power is crucial for International Relations because every state is in the pursuit of it. Many times they were not the main focus of the group, and were only supported half heartedly. The motives of the group were to have higher wages, and a shorter workday. The American Federation of Labor supported their causes for workers rights by boycotting businesses, and having businesses that were for union workers only. The AFL believed that capitalism was the way towards bettering the workplace. Supporting capitalism was one of the major reasons the IWW had conflicts with the group. The AFL s conservative beliefs, and exclusive union created conflict between themselves and the IWW, who were radical and open to all members. The two groups had beliefs that were completely opposite, and the groups were unable to cooperate. Due to the conflict between them, the founder of the AFL made it so that no one in the IWW could work at American Federation of Labor industries. • 15. Computers Can Not Have Minds Alan Turing, father of modern computers, created the Turing Machine in order to prove, through the use of an imitation game, that computers can think. John Searle argued that the Turing Test is simply just imitating, rather than thinking. Based on Searle s argument against the Turing Test, I think that computers cannot have minds. Although Turing argues that computers can think, there are many arguments, such as Searle s Chinese room argument, and defenses that I will present that support Searle and his belief that computers do not understand the information they simulate and cannot think. As stated above, the purpose of the Turing Machine is to prove that computers can think. A Turing Machine is composed of a scanner with a tape made of paper running through it. This paper tape is divided into squares. Each square on the tape contains a symbol, either a 0 of a 1. The machine, along with two humans, will participate in an imitation game. Human A and the Turing Machine are hidden from view of Human B and have a conversation in order for Human B to try to determine which of the communicators is a robot, if either one is a robot. The machine s goal is to trick Human B into thinking it (the machine) is the human. Turing states that if the machine is successful, then the machine does have a mind. Turing s machine has the ability to answer any question presented to it, and Turing saw this ability as a sign of extreme intelligence. On the other hand, Searle argued that this ... Polymer Weight Averages And Molecular Distribution Part:C A 1: Polymer weight averages and molecular distribution: There are two types of molecular averages from which we can , the number average and weight average, which can we calculate by knowing the number of molecules and that weight fractions in the polymer. If we are given numbers of molecules with their molecular weights. Then we can calculate number average molecular weight (Mn) and weight average molecular weight (Mw). From that, we can get polydispersity index and know it is monodispersed or not. Suppose, we are given number of molecules (Ni) and molecular weight of those molecules (Mi), Number average molecular weight Weight average molecular weight Polydispersity index (PDI) = If PDI = 1 then mixture is homogeneous And if PDI 1 then mixture is heterogeneous We can draw molecular weight distribution by taking the molecular weight (M) on the X axis and Number of molecules (N) on Y axis or vice versa. Figure (1) is the molecular weight distribution. Cross linking in polymer: When two or more molecular chains chemically react with each other and make covalent bonds between them which are called cross linking. It makes polymers high dense. Just imagine seeing pictures and videos of harmless animals being tested and tortured for human benefits. A research by Cruelty Free International and Dr. Hadwen Trust estimates about 115 million animals are being used in experiments all around the world each year. Animal testing should be prohibited and not be used for research. The reasons are that the method of animal testing is very cruel and inhumane. Also most experiments that scientists conduct, do not work and the life of an animal is wasted. The method of using animals for lab testing is very cruel and inhumane. Studies show that when an animal is in a laboratory, it feels lonely, trapped, isolated, and the animal is in complete misery. One shocking fact is that the U.S law allows animals to be tortured and killed. They allow scientists to do whatever they want to the animal to reach their goal. The scientists force the animals to drink chemicals and many other things that can be harmful to them and that later ends up damaging many parts of the animal s body. Even after the animals endure all the pain, they get put back into their cage without having anything to stop the pain. I believe intellectual laws are as important as any other law because it defines the ethical aspect of the three core values of the United States of America liberty, freedom and democracy. Copyright law is an intellectual law that grants ownership to the author and protects the author from copyright infringement. This paper will discuss how copyright law was established, and how the establishment influences advertising. I begin by examining the history of copyright before it became a constitutional law. I will also explain why the copyright is protected under the First Amendment. After that, I will interpret some significant copyright acts that had been established since it first started, but my main focus will be on the role of fair use in the Copyright Act of 1976, which set up the primary basis for the copyright laws in the United States. The investigation will demonstrate how fair use relates to copyright matters in advertising, or commercial speech . The conclusion will emphasize the significance of fair use in advertising. In addition to being a home away from home for the truck drivers, they idle for a variety of reasons. These include keeping the fuel and engine warm, for the driver s resting comfort, to mask out other noises, and for safety (Keller). Unfortunately, while they are idling, the engine is consuming diesel fuel at a time when oil prices are at their highest. It has been calculated that every hour a truck idles unnecessarily is equivalent to 8 10 miles of on road driving (Keller). Although it is necessary for the drivers to idle, it has been a major concern in terms of wasted fuel within the trucking industry, costing them 3 billion gallons of fuel every year. Several different technologies have been introduced to combat the wasted fuel and reduce or eliminate truck idling times. One such advancement is an electrified parking space (EPS) for the drivers. The story in our Text inspires us to reflect about the need of humanity to be healed and to heal. It carries the good news for every aspect of our life for different occasions, different contexts and different times. It is not enough that the hemorrhaging woman should be healed; she needs to be truly integrated back into the society. It is not enough to give life alone but to help to sustain the life. • 31. School Is Bad For Children By John Holt This nation s best and strongest leaders attended school as children. Leaders such as John F. Kennedy and Franklin D. Roosevelt ( School House to White House ). Can their success as leaders be attributed to school? Or would they have been successful without that education? School is where they were inspired and pushed to their limits. The challenges of studying various subjects, completing homework, forming new ideas, participating in extracurricular activities, and making friends are part of the common heritage of an American education shared by everyone including our Presidents ( School House to White House ). In John Holt s School is Bad for Children Holt makes a plea to free children from the classroom (Preface). He outlines several ways that America s education system is harming children and introduces several ways he believes it can be improved. Although Holt makes a few logical arguments, his essay lacks credibility and his ideas to abolish school attendance, to always have paired learning, and to end fixed curriculum (leave much to be argued) Holt makes several assumptions and talks of schools that do certain things but he never uses evidence to back up what he says. This makes his essay less credible because it is only written from his experiences and his opinion. Holt says, In a school I know of... (Holt 75), ... a number of schools... (Holt 75), and In many schools... he can t even talk to them at lunch (Holt 73). Who are these schools? How do we know if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Reap What You Sow in Silas Marner by George Eliot Essay The definition of fate is the development of events beyond a person s control. It is regarded as something determined by a supernatural power, but I believe otherwise. In fact, I believe the exact opposite. I believe that people do in fact have the power to manipulate their fate; Based on the good or bad choices they ve made in the past. The novel Silas Marner by George Eliot , helps to explain this. Through the actions of three major characters Dunstan Cass, Godfrey Cass, and Silas Marner. These characters were chosen because they all made good or bad choices throughout the novel with a clear punishment or reward; Or in other words these characters show how they control their fate based on previous actions or choices. To begin with, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If he never made the choice of robbing Silas, he never would ve fell into the pit. This is only what he deserves for being selfish and full of spite. Dunstan clearly shows that you can control your fate based on the good or bad choices you make. Obviously, Godfrey s choices determined his fate. Godfrey had the choice to tell the truth. He was given this opportunity during breakfast with his father. Instead of telling his father the real reason why he gave the rent money to Dunstan, he says, I wouldn t have spent the money myself, but Dunsey bothered me, and I was a fool and let him have it (69). He could ve told the truth and relieve himself of Dunstan. Next, Godfrey had the choice to admit that Eppie is his child. This chance arrived at Silas s cottage when he took a look at Molly Farrens body. The right thing to do there was to take Eppie from Silas like a good father would ve. Instead, he says to Silas, Let me give you something towards finding it clothes (120). Godfrey was thinking only of getting Eppie out of the way, so that he could continue courting Nancy Lammeter. He put himself over his own daughter just to get what he wants. All of the sudden, 16 years later, Godfrey goes to ask Eppie to live with him. Eppie declined his request with all due respect. • 35. How Was Mahatma Gandhi Justified Many people remember Mahatma Gandhi as a hero who died fighting for the rights of the Indian people. On January 30th, Mahatma Gandhi was fatally shot at a mansion where he usually held his multi faith prayer meetings. He was murdered by Nathuram Godse, an extreme Hindu fanatic who believed Gandhi was against the Hindu cause. I do not believe that Gandhi s assassination was justified. His death was not justified because he was determined to change India for the better. He continued to stimulate his beliefs and faith peacefully, and played a major role in India s Independence. Some feel as though Gandhi exploited Hindus and his death was justified. However, Gandhi was only making the world a better place peacefully and did nothing to deserve his death. When Gandhi was a child, you would never imagine him as a powerful leader who would fight for his beliefs peacefully. As a child, he was very unremarkable and timid. During his teenage years, he began to rebel. He started smoking, drinking, and stealing, all of which went against his faith. When Gandhi was 18, his parents sent him off to London to study law. He returned back to India only to struggle finding a job, and to find out his mother had died weeks before his return. It was not until Gandhi travelled to South Africa and experienced racial discrimination and segregation to begin his lifelong journey to fight for the Indian s rights. • 37. Rhetorical Analysis Of Anti-Smoking Adverts Anti smoking ads can be found all over the internet and TV . I choose an anti smoking ad where an African American male walks into a general store and has to pull out a tooth to receive his pack of cigarettes. I stumbled upon this ad when watching YouTube, it was an ad. This advertisement is effective in achieving its purpose of spreading awareness of what smoking does to young adults because it visually shows a man pulling out his tooth just for a pack of cigarettes. This ad uses logos, ethos, and pathos to persuade the audience their argument. It uses pathos when the man is actually pulling out his tooth, this brings the feeling of disgust for those watching. Logos is present when the narrator says what smoking causes such as cancer and other diseases. Then finally ethos is also present because the commercial is being put online by the FDA. Pathos is present from the very beginning of the commercial. Pathos is shown when the opening scene is the outside of general store sometime in the evening. This made me and possibly many other viewers uncomfortable because nothing happens at night in a general store that is good. The next time that pathos is used is when the man at the counter says, That s not enough when the African American male places down his money and I.D and asked for pack of cigarettes. The scene makes me super uncomfortable at just the thought of someone pulling out their tooth with a pair of pliers. Not only is he pulling his tooth out but they put in ... • 38. Satire In The Entertainment Industry Why is it that people are so attracted to all forms of entertainment? Is there a greater purpose behind all those hours spent glued to screens? In the media, satirical entertainment has emerged as a force revealing truths. Merriam Webster defines satire as a literary work holding up human vices and follies to ridicule or scorn . The role of satire in the entertainment industry is to expose the weaknesses and corruption in society. Entertainment does not have the capacity to ruin society; entertainment simply reflects society because it engages and appeals to the common experiences of the audience. Throughout civilization, entertainment is used to reveal the true nature of individuals. It can only be assumed that those who object to satirical forms of entertainment must have faults that they fear will be brought to light. Prominent figures in the nineteenth and twentieth century despised satire. Rulers during those times were cautious of entertainment dissolving the ties of our social order through citizens recognizing the corruption around them and rebelling. A form of entertainment that has been around for centuries is the political cartoon. Political cartoons utilize parody and caricature in an effort to interest and educate an audience.
