What Is The Purpose Of A Persuasive Essay
Crafting an essay on the purpose of a persuasive essay presents its own set of challenges. Firstly,
one must delve into the intricacies of persuasive writing itself, understanding the nuances that
distinguish it from other forms of discourse. This involves grasping the art of rhetoric, knowing
how to employ ethos, pathos, and logos effectively to sway the reader's opinion.
Additionally, the writer must navigate the fine line between presenting a compelling argument
and avoiding manipulative tactics. Striking the right balance between passion and reason is
crucial, as an excessively emotional appeal may undermine the credibility of the essay.
Furthermore, the task demands meticulous research to support the persuasive elements. A well-
reasoned essay requires solid evidence and examples that resonate with the audience. Locating
and integrating relevant information, while ensuring its accuracy and reliability, can be a time-
consuming process.
Crafting a persuasive essay also demands a keen understanding of the target audience. Different
demographics may respond to distinct rhetorical strategies, making it essential to tailor the
approach accordingly. This adds a layer of complexity, as predicting the mindset and preferences
of the readership is inherently challenging.
Structurally, organizing the essay coherently and logically is pivotal. Each paragraph should
seamlessly flow into the next, building a compelling case that guides the reader towards the
intended conclusion. Transitioning between arguments and counterarguments requires finesse to
maintain a persuasive momentum.
In conclusion, the difficulty of writing an essay on the purpose of a persuasive essay lies in the
multifaceted nature of the task. From mastering the art of persuasion to conducting thorough
research and understanding the intricacies of the target audience, the process demands a
combination of analytical skills, creativity, and effective communication.

The Drug Of Drugs And Crime
There has always been a close association between drugs and crime. Drugs have
been seen as a way out of suffering in one s life and so as long as there is suffering
there will always be a market for drugs. The struggle to keep one s self sane when
away from a substance they need can cause them to do crazy and even violent
things to others. Things like murdering someone because they did not have proper
control of themselves is not something unheard of by any means. These people can
been seen as both victims and criminals, as they were not in a sound state of mind
when doing these actions, however them doing the actions does not mean they
should get off scot free. The users are only one side of the coin, the other is the drug
dealers. The dealers do not have to be selling purely illegal drugs, they may be
selling prescription drugs too, but in the pursuit of their own survival in a struggling
life, they turn to selling substances to others. By doing so they can even amass a
fortune, but this is still a crime, and what people will do to try to get all this potential
money can span from robbing to murder. The articles I read from different media
support the fact there is indeed a tie with crime and drugs, being that an increase of
drugs on the street leads to more crime.
The Huffington Post had an interesting article that discussed the racial component to
crimes and drugs. Stating that blacks were sentenced much more frequently for drug
related crimes than whites, though
A Research Report On The Workplace Essay
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: This report was commissioned to investigate and develop
a potential solution for the workplace matters in order to resolve the addressed issue
for the organisation so as to thrive the business. This paper provides the SWOT
analysis on the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats during the time of
taking the professional experience in the Parkroyal Parramatta. The report draws close
attention to the 25 million dollar refurbishment project that makes impact on the
service delivery. It identified the issues that happened in Parkroyal with the
collections of information from colleagues, supervisors and managers in the hotel.
Using the theory learned from stage 1 and 3, I have come up with some
recommendation to resolve the issues and brought them to discuss with my
supervisors and have gained their insights of how those recommendations can affect
the business. After practicing the reflective research exercise, I found out that
mostly people are aware of the issues that I had addressed and was on the ways to
make it happen. Therefore, I believe the organisation can achieve what they aim to do
in the near future.
INTRODUCTION: The aim of this report is to investigate into a work related issue
and develop capable solutions that have not been applied into practice in the
workplace during the work placement. Which will includes:

The Crisis Management Lesson From Toyota And Gm
The Crisis Management Lesson from Toyota and GM: It s Our Problem the Moment
We Hear About It
Delay in confronting crises is deadly. Corporate leaders must have processes for
learning of important safety issues. Then they must seize control immediately and
lead a systematic response. Crisis management is the ultimate stress test for the CEO
and other top leaders of companies. The mantra for all leaders in crisis management
must be: It is our problem the moment we hear about it. We will be judged from that
instant forward for everything we do and don t do.
These are key lessons for leaders in all types of businesses from the front page stories
about Toyota s and GM s separate, lengthy delays in responding promptly and fully
to reports of deadly accidents possibly linked to product defects.
The news focus has been on regulatory investigations and enforcement relating to
each company, but the ultimate question is why the company leaders didn t
forcefully address the possible defect issues when deaths started to occur.
On the recent regulatory front:
Toyota just agreed to pay $1.2 billion in a deferred prosecution agreement with
DOJ and accept a safety monitor for failing to disclose to regulators and indeed
misleading them about accelerators that became stuck on certain types of floor mats
or because of certain elements in the accelerator itself. The problem of uncontrolled
speeding and deadly crashes began to appear in 2007, but it took four years, and

Costco Wholesale Case Study Essay example
Stakeholders invest money with the intent to gain return in the future. It is important
for stakeholders to gain access to information and evaluate the firm s performance
before they put money in it. On the other hand, it is the firm s management team
job to make decisions that would maximize the long term value of the firm s
common stock. The intent of this paper is to analyze Costco Wholesale Corporation
s financial performance and to assess how efficient the business has been over a five
year period as well as to provide recommendation for financial management strategy.
The problem identified in this paper is the low margins in the industry. Because
margins are low, the profitability of individual companies depends on high... Show

The competitors higher current ratio might also be a sign for too much inventory
that might have to be written off or too many old accounts receivables that could
turn into bad debts. Sears and Walmart s account receivables are a way higher than
Costco and BJs, confirming that there is no significant reason for considering
Costco s current ratio a weakness. Costco s gross margin has been well maintained
over the five year period. Their gross margin of 10.4% is much lower than Sears of
26.6% and Wal Mart s of 21.5%. Only BJ s has a lower gross margin of 9.2%.
Costco s 2001 gross margin suggests ability to remain profitable and very
competitive at the same time. The company has been able to provide goods to
customers at a very low mark up and at a lower per unit cost. According to the case
study Costco s management team has decided to reinvest net income back into the
company instead of paying dividends. This decision has resulted in earnings
retention ratio of 100% as shown on Torres s sustainable growth model. Absence of
dividends could lead to some investor dissatisfaction in the short term. The return
on equity (ROE) also has been decreasing during the five year period. It has dropped
from 18.6% in 1998 to 14.2% in 2001, which could also lead to investor
dissatisfaction. ROE tells how well stockholders are doing in
Vermeer s Girl With A Pearl Earring
At this point in the novel, Girl With a Pearl Earring, Johannes Vermeer, the famous
painter of the 1600 s, has taking a special liking to Griet, he describes her in the
novel as a muse like figure. After sharing his life story, and feelings towards his
paintings and fame with Griet, he asks that she pose for a painting. Griet allows
Vermeer to do so, not solely because she feels the connection between them but more
so because he is her boss and is of a higher rank than her. Catharina, the wife of
Johannes Vermeerat this time, is incredibly jealous of Griet and the attention that she
gets from her husband. At the beginning of Griet s career, Catharina told Griet s
mother that she could visit on sundays while the family was at the Catholic Church.
Essay Comparing The Tempest and King Lear
Comparing The Tempest and King Lear
This essay will focus on the similarities and differences of the plays The Tempest
and King Lear in general, as well as looking at comparisons of Prospero and Lear in
somewhat more detail.
Prospero and Lear are, without a doubt, the two most compelling mature figures in
Shakespeare. In a way, one is the flip side, so to speak, of the other. Each represents
an aging man s relationship to family, environment, and, most importantly, himself.
One might even be so bold as to venture that had Lear lived, he might, through the
enormity of his painful transformation, have become a character much like Prospero,
a man who has learned bitter lessons from his intercourse with the world and has ...

Lear, likewise, is the victim of a tempest, also a turning point in the plot, as well as a
powerful force in his own agonizing journey through growth and self discovery. In a
way, Lear s tempest is more significant in that it represents the Hegelian dialectic of
thesis, antithesis, synthesis; out of Lear s agonizing conflict with nature and his
subsequent madness comes a new and better man, a man cleansed, literally and
figuratively, by the raging water of the storm. It is interesting to note the main
difference between the roles played by Lear and Prospero in their respective
interactions with the storm: Lear is the victim of the maelstrom, Prospero the creator.
Each character is defined to a certain extent by this relationship to nature s wrath, one
experiencing it as a kind of chastisement, the other utilizing it to further his own ends.
Lear rages against the storm, shouting, You sulph rous and thought executing fires,
/ Vaunt couriers of oak cleaving thunderbolts,/ Singe my white head! And thou all
shaking thunder,/ Strike flat the thick rotundity o th world! (III.II.4 7). Compare this
with Miranda s request that If by your art, my dearest father, you have/ Put the wild
waters in this roar, allay them. (I.I.1 2).
The bond between father and daughter in each play, while seemingly incidental, must
The Breakfast Club Vs. Perks Of Being A Wallflower
The Breakfast Club vs. The Perks of Being a Wallflower In high school, social
hierarchy is typically determined by perceived popularity. Adolescents experience
many emotional, biological and cognitive changes during this time. Teenagers
struggle with their identity as social acceptance becomes an increasingly important
factor in their lives. Cliques are formed in high school as a representation of a
small group of people with common interests. Cliques are joined mostly by girls
because it gives them a sense of security and confidence they may otherwise lack,
but boys are known to join cliques as well. Cliques provide adolescents with a
strong sense of self worth and can in fact help one grow as an individual, sharing
common interests and values. Adolescents who appear with high social power tend
to have similar qualities and group together. Those who are less popular tend to
isolate themselves more while befriending others with a similarly low social status.
Often times, those who are socially dominant are generally more influential, daring,
physically attractive and socially appropriate. (Closson 3) Cliques can foster
community in a group of close knit individuals. Different types of cliques provide
adolescents with an opportunity to group together with those with similar interests.
They allow teenagers to satisfy their psychological needs such as gaining a sense of
belongingness and security. Although there are positive aspects of cliques, there is a

Infant Colic
Before taking Child Development, I hadn t heard about Infant Colic. After
learning a little bit about it in class, I decided to do some research of my own on it.
An infant can be born healthy and well fed, but can cry for several hours a day,
several days a week due to them having Colic. There are some theories as to what
causes Colic. Some of the causes may be gas, growing digestive system, stomach
pains caused by hormones and babies becoming overstimulated and oversensitive
to light and noise. Your baby could have an infection, an irregular heartbeat,
stomach problems, or even increased eye pressure (WebMD). Babies can develop
Colic around the age of just two weeks old. Babies can be born full term and have
Colic. Colic can develop later if your infantwas born premature. Colic will go away
by itself around three to four months old. It doesn t matter what gender your baby
is or whether or not you breast fed or bottle fed them. They can still end up having
Colic anyways. Children who had Colic as infants will grow up to be like every
other kid who didn t have Colic. Parents may become confused in knowing whether
it is a normal cry because they need their diaper changed to them having Colic.
Infants who have Colic tend to have episodes of where they scream.... Show more

Find a type of bottle that can help reduce gas or create a small hole in the nipple of
the bottle. Sitting up while they eat can help reduce the amount of air into the
lungs. In order for the crying to stop try soothing your baby by rocking them and
talk in a soft calming voice. Rocking them helps relax their muscles. Infants can
easily be calmed down by placing them on their back and turning the lights off,
giving them a pacifier, holding them under warm water for a while and even

My High School Internship At NASA
My High School Internship at NASA
During the fall semester of my junior year, my Aerospace Engineering teacher had
a sign outside of his door about a program at NASA for high school juniors. Since I
was interested in engineering, specifically Aerospace and NASA I decided to
apply. So that night at the end of September I came home and filled out the
application and wrote the essay and letters to my state representatives. I had told my
parents at that point and they were excited and of course hoped I made it. I thought,
There are thousands applying and I won t make it. . Little did I know how wrong
that thought was. When I received an email from NASA it stated Congratulations
and that was when I was like: WOW! . I was shocked to say the least, but proud
that I had made it into this prestigious program at NASA, that has now changed my
life. The first thing that the administrators told us was that there was an online
portion that would last through February and would add upwards of 5 or so hours a
week to our course load from school, as well as that we would design a mission to
Mars. So me being involved in 3 AP classes, 2 Pre AP classes, and 2 different clubs
one of which I was president, I was nervous as to how I would handle that load. So
that first week in November I started my online portion of my NASA internship, I
learned so much that week through reading articles about new science technologies
and watching videos. The program followed the outline of four modules;
Order and Chaos
Order and chaos are related to and dependent on each other. The clear cut
distinction between them is man made and an illusion. Society uses order to
regulate all aspects of the world from nature to personal lives, while chaos allows
for open mindedness and also provides an explanation for certain aspects of the
world. This can be seen in science, theology, music, language, and imaginative play.
Science is rational, logical, and orderly. It has the ability to break apart complex
systems into simpler ones described by theories ad equations. This is seen in the
description of the planets orbits, evolution, and Newton s laws. Scientists have a
thirst for knowledge and seek understanding about the world around them. Their

Anthropology, fossils, and other material evidence provide proof of evolution by
similarities between organisms of the past and present ,including the controversial
belief that humans evolved from apes. All these discoveries discredit the belief that
humans were created to posses dominion over the world, and all that was created
has existed from the beginning. The five percent of fundamentalists that are radical
and use violence and other unusual means to support their views have made
fundamentalism seem extreme and crazy. They discriminate against other
Christians, who do not have their same views, and deem them not real Christians.
They are also completely intolerant of other religions, offering no salvation outside
their faith. Throughout the ages these two groups have clashed as seen in the trial
of Galileo. The common denominator in Galileo s trial ,and other controversies
between the ideologies is each group s stubbornness and intolerance of other views.
One view can not exist without the other ,and they are both impractical and
incomplete. The joining of the two is essential for a human being and the world as a
whole. This point is clearly illustrated in the Library of Babel where all was known
,yet chaos was rampant because no faith could exist.
Music can sometimes sound random, chaotic, and spontaneous but all music has a
certain structure and fundamental

Online shopping has been a growing phenomenon all over the world especially
among countries with well developed infrastructure with marketing activities over the
Internet (Kau, Tang amp; Ghose, 2003 ). Hawkins, Best amp; Coney (2001:592) are
of the opinion that Internet sales will increase rapidly in years to come.
Today we live in an age where the Internet has become an important medium for
people in their daily lives. The Internet is an effective and efficient way to
communicate with people, to manage banking transactions and to purchase goods
and services. While the old way of going to a shop to get the feel and touch of a
product before purchasing it is still nice, for certain services like booking airline or
concert tickets have made the process much easier and efficient.
Although predictions have been made on the future of online shopping and the
increased growth in sales, the question arises as to why don t more South African
businesses utilise this market? This question can go hand in hand with another
question: Why do consumers in South Africa still prefer shopping at a shopping mall
as opposed to the convenient way of shopping online?
In order for South African businesses to retail their respective products or services
online, there needs to be a profitable market of users for the respective businesses to
Rudolf Lab The Theorist, The Theory And The Context
Part 1: The theorist, The Theory and The Context Rudolf Laban, a brilliant acting
theorist, inspires many individuals, groups of actors and performers all over the
world to this day. His progressive acting theories mold an individual into a character
effortlessly and effectively. Although his ideas were not always appreciated, his
critics only pushed him to better his techniques. Rudolf Laban was born on
December 15th, 1879, in Bratislava, which used to be part of the Austro Hungarian
Empire. His Father, a highly decorated Officer in the Army, hoped that Rudolf would
follow in his footsteps; however, Rudolf found himself intrigued with the complexity
of the arts. He studied art and acting at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. While...

Furthermore, Rudolf Laban s theories focus primarily on movement. His
movements are specific to what the actor intends on portraying. Not only so, but
the movement of the actor would in turn directly reflect the character s personality.
He believed every movement performed displayed a greater purpose to internally
reflect on one s character. Thus, His movement theories help an actor to bring out
the individuality of each character portrayed in a performance or dance. Part 2:
Practical Explorations and Development of the Solo Theatre Piece For this solo
piece, I chose to incorporate Laban s theories into an interpretive dance. I display, not
two different characters movements, but one character s movements as he/she
develops, learns, and grows throughout his/her lifetime. To do so, I will use shadows
in the background to interact with the character in order to allow the audience to
better comprehend my actions and movements throughout the song. As the actor, I
conform to the story line and the character I am portraying by my movements and
interactions with the shadows projected onto the backdrop of the stage. As I
prepared for this performance, I found it difficult to incorporate the movement
patterns of two characters, due to the fact that it is specifically a solo piece rather
than a duet or
A Summary OfFrindle By Andrew Clements
Frindle by Andrew Clements illustrated by Brian Selznick
Nick Allen is a child full of ideas who decides to replace the word pen with the
word frindle after his teacher has told him that words are formed by the people
making them, therefore he must try it out for himself and gets six of his friends to
commit to using the word frindle instead of pen.
Nick and his friends made a big show about using the new word every time they
needed to say pen, however Mrs. Granger, the fifth grade, language arts teacher was
not in favor of the use of the word and asked them not to use it. That was not going
to stop the group. So, the punishment for using the word was writing sentences in

Hunger Of New York City
Hunger in New York City
Since the recession started in 2007, the national statistics of unemployment, low
income households, and hunger have increased yearly. Even after the recession had
ended in 2009 the economic issues are still very prominent. Everything economically
related to the health and welfare of the vast majority of our American citizens, has
sky rocketed in a very negative way. Students, parents, children and families alike
have, and continue to struggle with hunger on a day to day basis. Our communities
have become impoverished with food, expanding state to state with hunger and even
starvation. New York City, has become a haven of families struggling with the
realities that hunger can bring. How long can we live like this before somebody does
anything about this?
The research on this matter has some astonishing numbers, NYC Hunger Exp.
2012: One City Two Realities writes: In 2012, almost three in four New York City
households with children with annual incomes of less than $25,000 (70 percent)
had difficulty affording needed food. The percentage having difficulty is up 30
percent from 2011 (54 percent), representing the biggest increase since the start of
the poll in 2003 and the biggest increase of any population group in this year s poll.
Soon after the recession, the numbers have still risen, and these recent statistics have
proven the dramatic need for help on an individual level for low income families.
As the statistics grow, the median
Examples Of Selfishness In The Veldt
Humanity has thought of many ways of besting one another. Whether it be for
military weapons, government, or how fertile the soil is, they always want to be
better. First world countries seek to digitize everything to live in a world of luxury
while third world countries long for opportunities and freedom. What they don t
have is what they desire, and what they already obtain they improve tenfold.
Stronger, faster, bigger, better: this is the motto every other person subconsciously
believes. Given the choice of one homemade cookie, or a jar of store bought
cookies, many would choose the latter. That s because they re greedy. Although they
may not always do it for selfish reasons, they strive for the best. Why join a race if

semester, 2011 2012. ABSTRACT To determine the effects of gamma radiation in
inducing mutation on the growth of corn (Zea mays), an experiment using corn
seeds exposed in to different rate of radiation (0kr, 10 kr, 30 kr, and 50 kr) was done.
Four treatments were prepared using 10 seeds from each of the following different
radiation rates. The seeds were planted and were observed for seven weeks. The
percent germination and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Theoretically, the control should have the highest percent germination rate, but since
errors which can be attributed from the environment as well as from other physical
factors are present, results obtained cannot be avoided. The treatment with the highest
irradiation rate (50 kr) has the lowest rate of seed germination. However, in Table 2,
results indicated that treatment under the former has the highest percent mortality
rate (100 %) while the lowest obtained by the control treatment (40%).
In Figure 1, results obtained showed that the treatment with highest average plant
height was under Treatment 10 kr. The final average plant height under this treatment
was 28.58 cm compared to the 25.98 cm of control, 20.87 of 30 kr and 6.04 of 50 kr.
Again, theoretically, the control should have the highest average plant height but
results showed otherwise.
Through the obtained data, it can be concluded that exposing seeds to radiation can
induce mutation which in the end could affect the growth rate, germination rate as
well as the mortality rate of the plant. Observations and data obtained showed that the
rate of radiation is inversely proportional to the percent germination and height of
corn plants thus proving that percent germination and height decreases as amount or

three different airplane designs and the distance that each of these designs will fly in

through this experiment, the design called the Hammer, had the longest average

This can be applied to these planes because of the folds, tears, and crumples of the
paper airplane s wings after it s creation. The difference in weight can also be
relevant. Because, in this experiment, we use the same type of paper, of course, the
weight would be the same, but it s distribution across the entire plane. For example,
simpler designs usually have an almost even amount of weight across the entire
plane, but more complex and complicated designs have a tendency to have many
folds that bundle the paper around the tip. This is because all the extra weight that
is in that one spot helps in the plane s overall ability to cut through the wind, being
more wind resistant ( Choosing the Best Paper for the Paper Airplane, n.d.). These

used for the betterment of airplanes in the real world. Since, according with more

Essay on Conquering My Fear of Writing
Conquering My Fear of Writing
Lacking experience in writing and reading, English is my most feared subject. It is
the one and only vulnerable spot in my otherwise invincible academic armor. I hate
writing and I despise reading. Other than magazines, I cannot recall reading anything
since The Crucible which was a teacher assigned book in my sophomore high school
English class. Not that I read a lot before that, I don t remember reading any books in
my middle school years neither. Now, with this writing assignment since a long
time, my brain feels like an old rusty engine of an 81 Porsche cranking up for the
first time in years, readying to compete in the heat.

But when it comes to grammar, I am extremely proud because there are usually no
corrections on the essays my teachers hand back, or maybe it s because they re too
lazy to correct them.
When I m actually writing, I write as fast as a turtle can crawl. A 2 page essay
usually takes me around 6 hours to finish. My teacher once told me to use a process
called brainstorming which I tried but found it not very helpful. It s no brain
buster for me to start an essay. I just sit down, roll up my sleeve and start jotting
down that first sentence. But what comes next is an arduous journey. I usually
have thoughts going on in my head and while I m pondering on which thought to
put down on paper, I would forget what they were and I have to start thinking all
over again. It is extremely taxing on me mentally. Once I m stuck, which occurs
almost after every sentence, I would reread the whole essay again. Worst yet, I
have a fond habit of procrastinating. I can only write in peace and quiet, and that s
only possible after everyone s in bed. Then surrounded by the infinity darkness of
my room, I would merge with my paper and pen under the dim table lamp voided
from the consciousness of space and time. Only when dawn glimpse through my
window, would this timeless eternity be shattered. I would wait until night to start my
writing trek, and night means the night before the assignment is due. This way I can
finish the essay in one attempt instead of having to span over

largest bank in the world, and second largest bank in the United Kingdom, which

Positivist Criminology
Just as there are many types of crimes, there are also many explanations for crime.
The three frames of reference for explanations of crimes are the classical criminology
approach, the positivist criminology approach, and the behavior of law. The most
effective approach to explaining crime is the positivist approach since uncontrollable
factors such as the environment, socialization, and education can make a person
more prone to committing crimes. In positivist criminology, a person commits a crime
because outside factors influenced them. For example, a person is more likely to
commit a crime if they live in poverty. In today s society, it is easier for someone to
rob or steal rather than to get a job and work for their money. Not to mention, it is
harder for those who live in poverty to get jobs since most employers only want the
best of the best working for their company. Living in poverty can also affect a
person s mentality. Trying to figure out how to overcome poverty can be stressful,
and this can take a toll on people s mental health and cause them to commit acts that
they wouldn t have committed if they were in their normal state of mind. Another
factor that can influence crime is socialization, which is the process of learning how
to properly behave. If someone grew up having a distant relationship with their
parents, they might be more likely to commit a crime. A parent is a child s first and
best teacher. A good parent should teach their child right
Essay on Special Education
The education system in our country was put in place in order to do service to our
children. Despite this, in many cases, children that have disabilities are neglected by
their schools. As a society, we all want to make sure that these children are being
taken care of. However, there is a large spectrum of students with disabilities, and
more needs to be done in order to meet every individual s needs. In some cases, they
do not receive enough attention, and others receive so much that it holds them back
from succeeding on their own. Generally speaking, students with special needs
benefit from integration into general educationclassrooms when it is handled
appropriately; however in many cases, students are still being short changed.... Show

Koch says that, By nearly all accounts, the law has been highly successful at
educating students once turned away at the schoolhouse door as untrainable ... . Julie
Verdonik too believes that the program can be successful, and has confidence in the
special needs students at Maple Grove. With all of this success, why is it necessary
that the special education system be reevaluated? Despite the potential for success
that IDEA creates, there are many students whose needs are not yet being met.
Some states in our country ignore the act altogether, and do not provide their
students with the resources and materials they need to be successful. In many cases,
teachers in general education are not trained enough to handle students with special
needs being a part of their classroom (Gable). The two of these factors combine to
create an environment that slows down the learning process at no fault of the child.
On top of that, many low income areas do not receive enough funding to afford to
service their students to the best of their ability, further hindering the child.
Misdiagnosis is also a problem commonly found in low income areas that holds
students back from reaching their full potential (Koch). Students that are simply
falling behind due to overcrowded classrooms are subjected to remedial reading and
other needs based classes when they don t actually suffer from any disability (Koch).
In some states, children with special

Julian s Racist Mother in O Connor s Everything That Rises Must Converge
She lifted the hat one more time and set it down slowly on her head. Two wings of
gray hair protruded on either side of her florid face, but her eyes, sky blue, were as
innocent as they must have been when she was ten. Where it not that she was a widow
who had struggled fiercely to feed and clothe and put him through school and who
was supporting him still, until he got on his feet, she might have been a little girl that
he had to take to town.
This passage was taken from Everything That Rises Must Converge and describes
Julian s mother, who remains nameless in the story. It particularly describes her face

She helps her son financially, and therefore does not try to be more accepting, even
though he asks her to be. She tries to give the black child a penny, and thus thinks that
she is indeed acting more accommodating to race, but succeeds only in drawing
attention to her antiquated notions of gentility. Thus the angelic description of her
physical features is very ironic. Heavenly, and Christian images are seen throughout
this short story, such as Julian being described as St. Sebastian, and Julian s mother
reminding him that Julian s grandmother was a Godhigh. Perhaps the images
foreshadow the upcoming death of Julian s mother, and her belief that she
absolutely deserves to go to heaven when she dies, though she does not know she
will die by the end of the story. Julian s mother believes she has done everything
right in her life, and though she is a very earnest and selfless woman, she is hardly
an angel.
The passage also alludes to Julian s mother being a child, or a ten year old, which
may have been the age when she knew Caroline, her darky nurse. At the end of the
story, she calls out for Caroline, probably because Caroline was the one who
would have helped her when she was a child and in trouble, but it is poignant that
she is described as being young, and in the last seconds of her life, she reverts back
to the childhood that she still resembles, even after all her years and troubles. The
passage also says that if
Difference Between PHP And Ruby On Rails
Ruby on Rails versus PHP
PHP and Ruby on Rails are both awesome web languages. Some developers prefer
PHP to Ruby on Rails while others prefer Ruby on Rails to PHP. There are some
reasons that are accustomed to that.
For starters let s understand what they entail:
What is Ruby on Rails and PHP
For starters Ruby on Rails is a framework that has Ruby as its main language. PHP on
the other hand is a web programming language that works with storage, editing,
transmission and integration of databases.
PHP is a language that works with the back end side of a web page or app. It
mainly uses sets of scripts to link one thing and the other. Ruby on the other hand is
a programming language that provides back end solutions to apps or websites. Ruby

tips
Its processing time tends to be slower as compared to other languages.
Yes, it does have some resources but they aren t enough. Thus in trouble shooting
problems you may find it difficult to get a forum that addresses such an issue.
Its updates and development are slow.
Conclusion
PHP and Ruby on Rails are both awesome in building applications and websites.
However they differ in many ways, if you want to learn fast start with PHP. You
should also remember to do regular practice so as to perfect in it. Ruby on Rails
takes more time as you have to setup a lot of stuff before starting the actual coding.
This can be tiresome and take time. Most web servers and hosting companies also
support PHP, unlike Ruby on Rails that is not that flexible. Versus
Learning Ruby on Rails can be very advantageous for anyone, as you will manage to
be on top of the team. Most people know PHP; imagine being unique with your skills
in Ruby, awesome, right?
However much there are differences between the two, you should try them out. They
will definitely change your whole coding

UK, primarily in the credit card business. The company breaks down its business as
follows. Credit cards are the major source of income, accounting for $10.4 billion in
revenue, or 64% of the total revenue for the company. Consumer banking accounts for
31% of the revenue, commercial banking a further 10% of the revenue, and the
company has negative revenue on other businesses. The credit cardbusiness is the
most profitable, generating $2.277 billion in profit, or 70% of the company s total net
income. Consumer banking accounted for 25% of total net income, while
commercial banking accounted for 16% of total net income.
The company has recently made moves to build its retail banking business and its
credit card business. In 2012, Capital One completed the purchase of ING Direct
USA, a deal that added $80 billion in deposits to the company s balance sheet. It
then added HSBC s US credit card business. This move added $28 billion worth of
credit card assets to the company s portfolio. These acquisitions were substantial in
nature $9 billion for ING and $31.3 billion for HSBC (No author, 2012). They
indicate that the primary focus for growth at Capital One is to build on its core
businesses. Such expansion of its two largest businesses indicates that Capital One is
more interested in focus there than in expanding

Alcoholics Anonymous By Bill Wilson
Alcoholics anonymous was founded in 1935 by a stock broker, Bill Wilson, and a
surgeon, Robert Smith. Wilson being a recovering alcoholic had originally attended
the Oxford Group, which was a Christian fellowship that based their teachings that
all people are sinners and all sinners can be changed. While Wilson later credited the
Oxford Group for saving his life, he separated from them, and in his desperation to
recover from his own alcoholismhe decided to form a group where alcoholics could
get together and share their stories and help achieve and maintain sobriety with each
other. (Branscum Sharma, 2010) This group became Alcoholics Anonymous. The
book, Alcoholics Anonymous, was written by Bill Wilson, Dr. Robert Smith, and the
founders of AA, with contributions from over 100 recovering alcoholics. (Inaba
Cohen, 2014, p.9.28) Today, there are over 97,000 AA groups with over 1.7 million
members that attend yearly. (Knack, 2009, p.86)
Alcoholics Anonymous relies on a twelve step base towards recovery. These 12 steps
have a spiritual background towards them but the founders encourage alcoholics to
take what they wants from these steps that will help them and leave the rest. These 12
steps include:
1.We admitted we were powerless over alcohol that our lives had become
unmanageable. 2.Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore
us to sanity. 3.Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God
as we understood Him.

The Most Significant Changes to the laws of Iraq after the War in 2003. Iraqi laws
have seen constant changes. Many old laws have been replaced by a new

Paul Bremer, and later by the government of Iraq. And this happened after the fall of
Saddam Hussain`s regime and the occupation of Iraqby the American and the British
forces on 9th April 2003. Paul Bremer issued more than 100 laws and regulations
within one year changing and repealing long established civil and commercial

The Problem With Opioids As A Sole Source Of Relief
The problem with opioids as a sole source of relief is that not only are they
physically and psychologically addictive, but the user also begins to build a
tolerance to the therapeutic effects. Eventually one requires higher doses in order
to achieve the initial levels of pain relief. As the dose increases, so does the level
of dependency and addiction. If a doctor refuses to increase the dose for the patient
s safety, the pain returns and patient may begin to feel the effects of opiate
withdrawal. In worst case scenarios people begin to abuse alcohol or seek out
prescription pain medication illegally. Illicit and less expensive street drugs are
often sought out if the afflicted can no longer afford their medications or cannot
find a source of pain and addiction relief anywhere else. Purchase of street drugs
becomes common when addiction begins to affect someone s ability to keep a
steady source of income. As a result, there has been a surge of opioid, heroin, and
alcohol abuse and eventual overdose. (Dart, et al., 2015) Because of this and a
number of other global factors, the field of clinical drug testing is growing, and
quite rapidly. According to research by Markets and Markets (2015), the drug and
alcohol testing market is set to grow from $4 billion as measured in 2015 to $6.3
billion in 2019 at a CAGR of 9.5%. This growth can be attributed to the increasing
number of pain and addiction clinics, among other factors. As a result, the demand for
drug testing facilities

Disability In Still Alice
Independent film can be examined by 5 terms: the relation in its work process, it
means of production, the financing of its film, its conception of quality films and its
system of consumption (Bordwell, Staiger and Thompson, 1985, p.317). The second
film that will argue the representation of a minority group is the independent drama
film, Still Alice (2014) directed by Richard Glazer with his partner Wash
Westmoreland. Still Alice worked on a smaller budget in comparison to MBY
totalling up to only $5 million which was attached to small independent production
company, Killer Films which is known to work with independent films. Still Alice

The film unlike MBY offers an authentic portrayal of the disability which critics
have praised Julianne Moore roles as Alice, gaining her Academy award for best

ability to communicate to others. He believes the film message matters and the film
has the ability to reach over millions of people who are suffering with Alzheimer s

Striving for Authentic Happiness Essays
Globalization and the development of technology have provided people with more
opportunities to do whatever they want. Because of the choices, people seem to be
happier to make their own choices. However, Martin E.P. Seligman, the author of
Authentic Happiness, would argue that they are not happy because that kind of
happinessdoes not last long. In his book, Seligman explains that there are two kinds
of happiness, pleasureand gratification. He says, [t]he pleasures are delights that have
clear sensory and strong emotional components, what philosophers call raw feels :
ecstasy, thrills, orgasm, delight, mirth, exuberance, and comfort. They are evanescent,
and they involve little, if any, thinking (102). As he shows, pleasure is... Show more

According to him, gratification is a key for people to have a good life. However,
Seligman explains, [g]ratification dispels self absorption, and the more one has the
flow that gratification produces, the less depressed one is (119). Although it is clear
that people need gratification more than pleasures, he points out that [t]o start the
process of eschewing easy pleasures and engaging in more gratifications is hard
(119). This difficulty of attaining gratification might make people to choose pleasure
rather than gratification. Thus, according to Seligman s definitions of happiness, it
is easier for humans to seek pleasure rather than to seek gratification. In The
Psychology of Globalization , Jeffery Jensen Arnett illustrates that young people
focus on self longer by extending adulthood. Arnett notes, in global culture, people
value on individualism, free market economics, and democracy and include freedom
of choice, individual rights, openness to change, and tolerance of differences (779).
Arnett argues that globalization, especially increasing the number of choices and
allowing people to have freedom of choices affect each individual s psychological
functioning. He points out, [w]hen people are allowed to make their own choices
about values, love, and work, the likelihood may be enhanced that they will find a
Barth Reflection God Here and Now
When looking at the common theme that Barth develops in God Here and Now, it
becomes apparent for the need of congregation to justify, ratify, and promote the Bible
as the living word of God. When and where the Bible constitutes its own authority and
significance, it mediates the very presence of God through the congregation.
Encountering this presence in the Church, among those whose lives presume living
through the Bibles power and meaning. Barth states that the Bible must become God
s Word and this occurs only when God wills to address us in and through it. The
Christ event is God s definitive self disclosure, while Scripture and preaching are
made to correspond to him as a faithful witness becomes the perfect statement
according to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addressing the question, if Barth seems to put much stock in any apologetic
case for Scripture s place and meaning, his apologetics is one of faith and
compliance to this visible form of the Word of God. Therefore, what makes Holy
Scripture holy is Barth s affirmation of the fallen nature of the prophets and apostles
and yet the divinity of scripture (Barth, 2003, p. 59). Barth s strong emphasis in the
scripture s fallible authors, however upholds that despite the humanity of the biblical
witness it is a form of the word of God relay by the Holy Spirit. His affirmation that
Christ is the very subject of scripture summons an Christological exegesis (p. 60). He
approaches the validity of the biblical witness through the subject and content of the
Bible. Ultimately, all infallibility and authority is due to God through faith; Christ is
the subject of scripture, therefore, the one who gives the authority and significance.
Barth, once again, provides a spiritual view of scripture and not a subjective
approach and interpretation. Barth s claim there is no room for natural revelation or
even a doctrine of verbal inspiration. God speaks only through his Word and scripture
is testimony to God s self revelation. The importance of this is establishing the role of
scripture in the ascendency and authority of the church congregation as unique in that
it can be, and only be, through the authority of the Scripture.
For Barth, sound exposition comes when we hold the
Fraud Cases have Put Earnings Management back in the...
immerman, 1990, Badertscher, 2011, Dechow, 1995, Healy and Wahlen, 1999).
Although earnings management is not a new phenomenon, the emerging of the fraud
cases such as Enron, Lehman Brothers, and other instances of financial fraud have
again put this topic in the spotlight. Emerging concerns over earnings management
have led to new disclosure requirements and the implementation of corporate good
governance codes such as the Sarabanes Oxly Act (SOX), tabaksblat and other
corporate good governance codes to reduce this phenomenon within firms. The role of
financial reporting is to portray the economic position of a firm in a timely and
credible manner. These financial statementsshould serve as a useful information
source for different stakeholders in making economic decisions. For information to be
useful it should be relevant and reliable (accounting book). Because the reported
earnings could affect the decision making of stakeholders or contractual outcomes
which are related to remuneration of managers or debt covenants, managers have
strong incentives to adjust earnings to a desired pre determined level (Watts, 1990) .
Although established accounting standards limit the use of opportunism, the
determinant is that managers have flexibility in choosing the accounting method, and
the existing information asymmetry between them and external stakeholders allows
them to prepare the financial reports to their own advantage. Information asymmetry
is the information advantage

Media In New Media
Do you have Facebook, or another social media account? Turns out, over 1.86
billion people also have Facebook. New media usage in our society has been
increasing at a significant rate. Ever since the rise of new media, there has also
been a rise of technology critiques. These critiques find all the negative outcomes
of new media; there has been a decline of face to face communication, people are
becoming lethargic. Though there may be various reasons why the rise of new
media is harmful, there is also one very important reason why it is beneficial; new
media provides a platform for the voices of the underrepresented to be heard.
In this paper, I will be discussing how new media enabled progress and social change
by enabling the LGBT community and other underrepresented communities to have a
voice.
Various sources have reported that social media has given the LGBT community a
voice by bringing together supporters regardless of distance and easily spreading
awareness to places that may not be informed about the LGBT community. An
article released by Salzburg Academy on Media Global Change called Social Media
and the LGBT community discusses exactly that. They write, Individuals and groups
have used social media to gather, physically and virtually, to promote and support
LGBT issues and rights and they have done so in countries that are both are tolerant
and intolerant of LGBT rights (Glasionov, n.d). An article by Tech Impact called

republic was the consequence of a newly Democratic germany. When the
hyperinflation kicked in, the germans blamed the government. Any republic that

What i m trying trying to say, they were weak because of WW1 The government of

gaining popularity in the military as it attracted much resentment by being the
signator of the versailles. But the weimar republic fighting off the strong opposition

germany s economic problem. He became chancellor in 1923 and supported by the

later on it got worst. Hitler s rise to power cannot be attributed to one event, but a
mixture of factors. The strengths of the nazi party, and the weaknesses of the parties

The Themes And Differences Of Star Wars And Star Trek
Star Wars and Star Trek are both a part of the science fiction genre and are about
space exploration. They both take place in the far reaches of the galaxies, on unique
planets with imaginative and distinct species. In both series the planets are united in
some way, Star Trek has The United Federation of Planets and Star Wars has the
Galactic Empire. They both have a ship that they are famous for, Star Wars has the
Millennium Falcon and the Death Star while Star Trekhas the USS Enterprise. Each
ship has similar means of transportation, Star Trekhas warp drive where Star Wars
has Hyperspace. There are differences in the main objective of both series. Star
Wars is mainly about conflict, a constant battle between the light and the dark as
the characters strive to balance their sides of the force. Whereas Star Trek is
mainly about peace, space exploration and going where no man has gone before.
Star Trek is a bit more logical and grounded in science while Star Wars induces
supernatural elements such as the force. Therefore, Star Trek is science fiction
while Star Wars can mainly be thought of a science fantasy. In addition to science,
Star Trek focuses on topics like ethics and morality and problem solving. Star Trek
often tried to tackle controversial topics in society and to teach its viewer s life
lessons such as acceptance to diversity. In 1968 Star Trek aired the episode Plato s
Stepchildren where Captain Kirk and Lieutenant Uhura Kissed. This kiss is

The Theoretical Model Proposed Before Primary Data Essay
This chapter provides a detailed description of the methodology, which will be
used to investigate the hypothesized relationships, presented in the previous
chapter. In order to test the theoretical model proposed before, primary data will be
collected using an online survey. Surveys collect data from a population of
respondents as an attempt to understand behavior in a variety of contexts (Negrine
Newbold, 1998). According to Bostrom (1998), surveys are an appropriate
research approach to use to understand consumer behavior (Negrine Newbold).
Furthermore, surveys make use of a formal set of questions to estimate the
distribution of characteristics in a sample (Dillman, 2000, p. 9) and are able to
provide empirical data to lend support or negate hypotheses or propositions
(Negrine Newbold). Finally, surveys are administered to describe, find, or validate
specific proposed relationships (Reagan, 2006, p. 92), as the relationships which are
presented in the previous section. The survey was administered online using
Qualtrics technology. Qualtrics is a web based survey tool that offers to researchers
the opportunity to create comprehensive surveys for academic purposes (Qualtrics,
2011). Qualtrics generates a unique URL after a researcher has built a survey using
software that can be easily distributed and accessed online (Qualtrics). The
questionnaire will be launched online and distributed using various web tools such as
email and social networking platforms. The

Another piece from Advanced Feminist Theory that is related to my work is
Adrienne Rich s Notes Toward a Politics of Location. In her piece, she quotes
Virginia Woolf who wrote as a woman I have no country. As a woman I want no
country. As a woman my country is the whole world (Rich 211). This quote, and this
idea, is one that is repeated by several others in their concern with women and their
connection to nationand country. Boland s poetrycollection, A WomanWithout a
Country, not only takes its title and its epigraph from this quote, it is building on
these thoughts about women and the nation. Kay too looks at her specific
positionality and how that is related to nation and nationalist feeling. Other work on

The essay states that a woman writer must try to find a new language to use to
describe the new environment in which they find themselves, as well as a past that
they were not a part of. This work was so important to Boland that it was it was
referenced in her book of essays, A Journey with Two Maps. I will use this piece,
and Boland s comments on it, to shed light on the struggle Boland faces as an Irish
woman writer and how that appears in her poetry. For Kay, it is not just gender
that complicates her identity as a Scottish poet, it is race and sexuality as well.
The question of who is and isn t Scottish and who can and can t claim that history
and its literary legacy is something that plagues Kay in the early years of her career.
During that time, she must navigate hostile waters and deal with people who would
have liked to see her fail. Even now as the Makar, the Scottish poet laureate, she still
faces challenges related to race and gender and addresses those conflicts in much of

After some research, I found out that cardinal sine could not be solved by elementary
means and that its integral was, in fact, a crucial part of the Gibbs phenomenon,
which will be expanded upon in the Applications section (Pg. 8) of this investigation.
My aim for this investigation is to prove the integral of cardinal sine to be sine
integral and to approximate five (5) values of the sine integral function. Afterwards, I
will show how this is relevant in both mathematics and other, more practical,
applications. Exploration In order to organize the mathematical exploration most
effectively, the exploration will begin with the following problem: Prove that
∫в
–’sinвЃЎx/x is equal to Si (x). Approximate Si (0), Si (ПЂ/6), Si (ПЂ/4), Si
(ПЂ/3), and Si (ПЂ/2) using a Taylor polynomial of order 3 at 0 for f(x) = Si (x). In
order to verify the results of the approximations, Wolfram Alpha, an online calculator
capable of processing the sine integral function, will be used.
To begin with, the Taylor series representation of the sine integral function is as such:
Si (x)=∑_(n=0 )^в€
ћв–’(( 1)^n x^(2n+1))/(2n+1)(2n+1)! At this point, it is
necessary to find the Taylor series representation of sinвЃЎx/x. First, the Taylor series
representation of sin (x) is:
∑_(n=0)^в€
ћв–’(гЂ–( 1)гЂ—^n x^(2n+1))/(2n+1)!
Therefore, sinвЃЎx/x is equal to:
1/x ∑_(n=0)^в€
ћв–’(гЂ–( 1)гЂ—^n x^(2n+1))/(2n+1)!
Which is equal to:
∑_(n=0)^в€
ћв–’(гЂ–( 1)гЂ—^n x^(2n+1))/x(2n+1)!

The Tragedy Of Offensive Realism And The Rise Of China
The tragedy of offensive realism: Classical realism and the rise of China
Realism is one of the most dominant international relations theories in the academic
world. But within Realism, Realists are split on a number of issues. A perfect
example of which being the rise of China. Over the past 30 years China has
increased not only in population and power, but has also achieved one of the
strongest economies in the world. The rise of China is seen as problematic by many
realists. Since the end of the Cold War and the fall of the Soviet Union, the US has
enjoyed a position of hegemony in the unipolar power structure of the world. Many
fear that the rise of China could upset the current balance of power. One such
individual is a prominent realist scholar, John Mearsheimer. He believes that war with
China is inevitable and calls for the US to do whatever it can to slow China s rise.
Another political theorist Jonathan Kirshner wrote this paper to counter many of
Mearsheimer s claims, stating that Mearsheimer s offensive realism is wrong, and
dangerous . Kirshner suggests that instead of using offensive realism we should look
instead to the theories roots in classical realism to analyse the rise of China.
For realists the international system is anarchical, war is an ever present threat and
the survival of a state is never guaranteed. This is why security is the main focus of
most realists. States are forever seeking greater amounts of security, in a never ending
search.
What Can I Grow Indoors Essay
Title: What can I Grow Indoors?
Growing produce indoors is a great idea. Whether you lack the outdoor space or
want to grow more than the average amounts, we ll tell you what is possible to grow
indoors from fruit and vegetables such as strawberries to herbs including basil.
Indoor growing Starting small
Starting off small is one of the best things to do when beginning an indoor garden.
Not only does this allow you to grow a few things at once, it also gives green
fingered gardeners the chance to discover what does and doesn t work for them.
Some people can seem to grow anything while others tend to struggle keeping the
simplest plants alive!
Find a windowsill or similar area that receives five hours of sunlight or more a day. In
order to photosynthesise plants need sunlight, the key element for any plant to
survive. Ensure that there is enough room for leaves or fruits to grow. Without such
expansion there is very little chance of seeing flowers, fruit or vegetables. ... Show

Setting up a bench or workspace for your garden can be beneficial; place the flowers
in an area with linoleum floor to catch the inevitable drops of water. Maybe consider
placing tarpaulin under the area.
Almost anything can be grown in a container too!
Temperature
The best temperature for most plants is between 65 75F. A variance of 10F either
way can work too. If a plant is too hot then it will be small and weak while plants that
are too cold may have yellow leaves that fall off.
Humidity
One of the biggest struggles that indoor gardeners face is humidity. Winter tends to
be drier than summer, and if a home is heated this can become a
Steven Lynn s Essay The Paradoxical Unity Of Writing A...
Steven Lynn s essay The Paradoxical Unity of Writing a Wrong carries the many
traits of a New Critical Essay; based on the language and choices of examples
within his text. The New Critic Theory believes that the key to understanding a text
exists within the text itself , otherwise known as Formalism which is very evident
in Lynn s opinion on Brendan Gill s article. Lynn covers majority of the New
Criticism concepts in his essay including; Paradox, Irony, Tensions and concludes his
text with evidence behind a unifying idea. A paradox is when the outcome is
opposite of the reasonable expectation. Lynn states that this is evident in Gill s
reading by using quotes to prove the point such as; dolphin diving skyward and
progress downward.
Monk And The Riddle
The book that I have chosen to review is The Monk and the Riddle . There are
several quotes in the book that relate to business entrepreneurship, however the
quotes can also be used in everyday life. Mr. Komisa s book is similar to an
instruction manual on what to do when life throws you curves, while you are trying
to walk a straight path in pursuing yours dream. Although you may stray off the path
you must gather yourself and regroup, get back on the path and continue on to reach
your goals learning every step of the way. Analysis
Komisar s riddles are aimed to inspire people to think about their life and what they
want to make of it. There a several quotes and statements in his book that will make a
person think outside of the box, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We must be proactive making things happen instead of waiting to make things
happen, but we have less risk than leaving things to chance. Starting your own
business is a risk you have to believe in yourself and be will to take the risk even
when things don t seem to be perfect. There are two options if you fall on your face
you can either learn from it and try again not making the same mistakes or give up.
Financial management is also important as an entrepreneur you have to be leader
when it comes to stepping out on a limb for what you believe you are capable of
doing. It requires planning and budgeting for the cost of starting a business, keeping
the business up and running, and also having a back up plan for unplanned
expenditures that may occur.
Conclusion
The Monk and the Riddle has several quotes and lessons the primary theme is
perseverance through failure. To be successful in our endeavors , we must be able
to except failure and learn from it. We must remain passionate about our goals and
do all that we can to reach them, knowing that there are things in life that we
cannot control no matter how hard we try. Failure is a part of life and as long as we
are to pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off we have
Rites Of The Catholic Church
One of the most important sacraments of the Catholic Church is the Eucharist, also
known as Holy Communion. The Eucharist is not merely the consumption of bread
and wine, but a sacrifice and meal full of symbols, rituals, meaning and community
involvement. To gain an understanding of the Eucharist, it is important to first to look
at the symbols, how they were started, then to see how the Christian community enter
into the mystery of the sacrament and what they believe.
Symbols
There are many symbols of the Eucharist, bread, wine, water, chalice
There is a real presence of Christ in the form of bread and wine. In the Eucharist,
Christ is present in the totality of His being. The Second Vatican Council proclaimed
that the
Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life the source and summit of
the Christian life (Vatican II, Lumen Gentium, Dogmatic Constitution on the
Church, paragraph 11),The real presence of Christ in the Eucharist comes about
through transubstantiation meaning to change on an in perceivable level, we
believe that bread and wine changes at a fundamental level have become the body
and blood of Christ as a result of our prayers to God. St Augustine s sermon 272
stated that for what you see is simply bread and a cup this is the information your
eyes report, but your faith demands far subtler insight the bread if Christ s body and
the cup is Christ s blood
We can argue that the Eucharist is a mystery. But what is the source of the Church s

him to Bath and Devizes. These travels turned the public against the Slave Trade,
raising awareness of the horrors of the trade and changing attitudes towards enslaved

Olaudah Equiano died on the 31st of march 1797 at the age of fifty two.
Olaudah s Contribution and Significance
Olaudah s book
The main contribution that Olaudah had on society was his autobiography The
Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano . This appeared in the spring
of 1789 it was one of the most popular books of that time and served as a major
support for the abolition of the slave trade.
Two years earlier Olaudah wrote dozens of letters to London newspapers, praising
new anti slavery books, defending abolitionist friends, protesting a pro slavery
speech he had heard in the house of Lords visitor s gallery and even wrote letters to
the Queen. He also signed and probably organized and drafted more than a half
dozen joint letters about slavery groups of African men in London who referred
themselves as the Sons of Africa. In his stream of letters to the press, he at least once
subtly touted the autobiography he was preparing, when it appeared its two volumes
totaled at five hundred and three

What Is The Purpose Of A Persuasive Essay

  • 1. What Is The Purpose Of A Persuasive Essay Crafting an essay on the purpose of a persuasive essay presents its own set of challenges. Firstly, one must delve into the intricacies of persuasive writing itself, understanding the nuances that distinguish it from other forms of discourse. This involves grasping the art of rhetoric, knowing how to employ ethos, pathos, and logos effectively to sway the reader's opinion. Additionally, the writer must navigate the fine line between presenting a compelling argument and avoiding manipulative tactics. Striking the right balance between passion and reason is crucial, as an excessively emotional appeal may undermine the credibility of the essay. Furthermore, the task demands meticulous research to support the persuasive elements. A well- reasoned essay requires solid evidence and examples that resonate with the audience. Locating and integrating relevant information, while ensuring its accuracy and reliability, can be a time- consuming process. Crafting a persuasive essay also demands a keen understanding of the target audience. Different demographics may respond to distinct rhetorical strategies, making it essential to tailor the approach accordingly. This adds a layer of complexity, as predicting the mindset and preferences of the readership is inherently challenging. Structurally, organizing the essay coherently and logically is pivotal. Each paragraph should seamlessly flow into the next, building a compelling case that guides the reader towards the intended conclusion. Transitioning between arguments and counterarguments requires finesse to maintain a persuasive momentum. In conclusion, the difficulty of writing an essay on the purpose of a persuasive essay lies in the multifaceted nature of the task. From mastering the art of persuasion to conducting thorough research and understanding the intricacies of the target audience, the process demands a combination of analytical skills, creativity, and effective communication. • 2. The Drug Of Drugs And Crime There has always been a close association between drugs and crime. Drugs have been seen as a way out of suffering in one s life and so as long as there is suffering there will always be a market for drugs. The struggle to keep one s self sane when away from a substance they need can cause them to do crazy and even violent things to others. Things like murdering someone because they did not have proper control of themselves is not something unheard of by any means. These people can been seen as both victims and criminals, as they were not in a sound state of mind when doing these actions, however them doing the actions does not mean they should get off scot free. The users are only one side of the coin, the other is the drug dealers. The dealers do not have to be selling purely illegal drugs, they may be selling prescription drugs too, but in the pursuit of their own survival in a struggling life, they turn to selling substances to others. By doing so they can even amass a fortune, but this is still a crime, and what people will do to try to get all this potential money can span from robbing to murder. The articles I read from different media support the fact there is indeed a tie with crime and drugs, being that an increase of drugs on the street leads to more crime. The Huffington Post had an interesting article that discussed the racial component to crimes and drugs. Stating that blacks were sentenced much more frequently for drug related crimes than whites, though
  • 3. A Research Report On The Workplace Essay EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: This report was commissioned to investigate and develop a potential solution for the workplace matters in order to resolve the addressed issue for the organisation so as to thrive the business. This paper provides the SWOT analysis on the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats during the time of taking the professional experience in the Parkroyal Parramatta. The report draws close attention to the 25 million dollar refurbishment project that makes impact on the service delivery. It identified the issues that happened in Parkroyal with the collections of information from colleagues, supervisors and managers in the hotel. Using the theory learned from stage 1 and 3, I have come up with some recommendation to resolve the issues and brought them to discuss with my supervisors and have gained their insights of how those recommendations can affect the business. After practicing the reflective research exercise, I found out that mostly people are aware of the issues that I had addressed and was on the ways to make it happen. Therefore, I believe the organisation can achieve what they aim to do in the near future. INTRODUCTION: The aim of this report is to investigate into a work related issue and develop capable solutions that have not been applied into practice in the workplace during the work placement. Which will includes: Using a SWOT analysis of the workplace environment in order to point out the subjects that can be worked out to make better
  • 4. The Crisis Management Lesson From Toyota And Gm The Crisis Management Lesson from Toyota and GM: It s Our Problem the Moment We Hear About It Delay in confronting crises is deadly. Corporate leaders must have processes for learning of important safety issues. Then they must seize control immediately and lead a systematic response. Crisis management is the ultimate stress test for the CEO and other top leaders of companies. The mantra for all leaders in crisis management must be: It is our problem the moment we hear about it. We will be judged from that instant forward for everything we do and don t do. These are key lessons for leaders in all types of businesses from the front page stories about Toyota s and GM s separate, lengthy delays in responding promptly and fully to reports of deadly accidents possibly linked to product defects. The news focus has been on regulatory investigations and enforcement relating to each company, but the ultimate question is why the company leaders didn t forcefully address the possible defect issues when deaths started to occur. On the recent regulatory front: Toyota just agreed to pay $1.2 billion in a deferred prosecution agreement with DOJ and accept a safety monitor for failing to disclose to regulators and indeed misleading them about accelerators that became stuck on certain types of floor mats or because of certain elements in the accelerator itself. The problem of uncontrolled speeding and deadly crashes began to appear in 2007, but it took four years, and deceptive
  • 5. Costco Wholesale Case Study Essay example Stakeholders invest money with the intent to gain return in the future. It is important for stakeholders to gain access to information and evaluate the firm s performance before they put money in it. On the other hand, it is the firm s management team job to make decisions that would maximize the long term value of the firm s common stock. The intent of this paper is to analyze Costco Wholesale Corporation s financial performance and to assess how efficient the business has been over a five year period as well as to provide recommendation for financial management strategy. The problem identified in this paper is the low margins in the industry. Because margins are low, the profitability of individual companies depends on high... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The competitors higher current ratio might also be a sign for too much inventory that might have to be written off or too many old accounts receivables that could turn into bad debts. Sears and Walmart s account receivables are a way higher than Costco and BJs, confirming that there is no significant reason for considering Costco s current ratio a weakness. Costco s gross margin has been well maintained over the five year period. Their gross margin of 10.4% is much lower than Sears of 26.6% and Wal Mart s of 21.5%. Only BJ s has a lower gross margin of 9.2%. Costco s 2001 gross margin suggests ability to remain profitable and very competitive at the same time. The company has been able to provide goods to customers at a very low mark up and at a lower per unit cost. According to the case study Costco s management team has decided to reinvest net income back into the company instead of paying dividends. This decision has resulted in earnings retention ratio of 100% as shown on Torres s sustainable growth model. Absence of dividends could lead to some investor dissatisfaction in the short term. The return on equity (ROE) also has been decreasing during the five year period. It has dropped from 18.6% in 1998 to 14.2% in 2001, which could also lead to investor dissatisfaction. ROE tells how well stockholders are doing in
  • 6. Vermeer s Girl With A Pearl Earring At this point in the novel, Girl With a Pearl Earring, Johannes Vermeer, the famous painter of the 1600 s, has taking a special liking to Griet, he describes her in the novel as a muse like figure. After sharing his life story, and feelings towards his paintings and fame with Griet, he asks that she pose for a painting. Griet allows Vermeer to do so, not solely because she feels the connection between them but more so because he is her boss and is of a higher rank than her. Catharina, the wife of Johannes Vermeerat this time, is incredibly jealous of Griet and the attention that she gets from her husband. At the beginning of Griet s career, Catharina told Griet s mother that she could visit on sundays while the family was at the Catholic Church.
  • 7. Essay Comparing The Tempest and King Lear Comparing The Tempest and King Lear This essay will focus on the similarities and differences of the plays The Tempest and King Lear in general, as well as looking at comparisons of Prospero and Lear in somewhat more detail. Prospero and Lear are, without a doubt, the two most compelling mature figures in Shakespeare. In a way, one is the flip side, so to speak, of the other. Each represents an aging man s relationship to family, environment, and, most importantly, himself. One might even be so bold as to venture that had Lear lived, he might, through the enormity of his painful transformation, have become a character much like Prospero, a man who has learned bitter lessons from his intercourse with the world and has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lear, likewise, is the victim of a tempest, also a turning point in the plot, as well as a powerful force in his own agonizing journey through growth and self discovery. In a way, Lear s tempest is more significant in that it represents the Hegelian dialectic of thesis, antithesis, synthesis; out of Lear s agonizing conflict with nature and his subsequent madness comes a new and better man, a man cleansed, literally and figuratively, by the raging water of the storm. It is interesting to note the main difference between the roles played by Lear and Prospero in their respective interactions with the storm: Lear is the victim of the maelstrom, Prospero the creator. Each character is defined to a certain extent by this relationship to nature s wrath, one experiencing it as a kind of chastisement, the other utilizing it to further his own ends. Lear rages against the storm, shouting, You sulph rous and thought executing fires, / Vaunt couriers of oak cleaving thunderbolts,/ Singe my white head! And thou all shaking thunder,/ Strike flat the thick rotundity o th world! (III.II.4 7). Compare this with Miranda s request that If by your art, my dearest father, you have/ Put the wild waters in this roar, allay them. (I.I.1 2). The bond between father and daughter in each play, while seemingly incidental, must
  • 8. The Breakfast Club Vs. Perks Of Being A Wallflower The Breakfast Club vs. The Perks of Being a Wallflower In high school, social hierarchy is typically determined by perceived popularity. Adolescents experience many emotional, biological and cognitive changes during this time. Teenagers struggle with their identity as social acceptance becomes an increasingly important factor in their lives. Cliques are formed in high school as a representation of a small group of people with common interests. Cliques are joined mostly by girls because it gives them a sense of security and confidence they may otherwise lack, but boys are known to join cliques as well. Cliques provide adolescents with a strong sense of self worth and can in fact help one grow as an individual, sharing common interests and values. Adolescents who appear with high social power tend to have similar qualities and group together. Those who are less popular tend to isolate themselves more while befriending others with a similarly low social status. Often times, those who are socially dominant are generally more influential, daring, physically attractive and socially appropriate. (Closson 3) Cliques can foster community in a group of close knit individuals. Different types of cliques provide adolescents with an opportunity to group together with those with similar interests. They allow teenagers to satisfy their psychological needs such as gaining a sense of belongingness and security. Although there are positive aspects of cliques, there is a correlation
  • 9. Infant Colic Before taking Child Development, I hadn t heard about Infant Colic. After learning a little bit about it in class, I decided to do some research of my own on it. An infant can be born healthy and well fed, but can cry for several hours a day, several days a week due to them having Colic. There are some theories as to what causes Colic. Some of the causes may be gas, growing digestive system, stomach pains caused by hormones and babies becoming overstimulated and oversensitive to light and noise. Your baby could have an infection, an irregular heartbeat, stomach problems, or even increased eye pressure (WebMD). Babies can develop Colic around the age of just two weeks old. Babies can be born full term and have Colic. Colic can develop later if your infantwas born premature. Colic will go away by itself around three to four months old. It doesn t matter what gender your baby is or whether or not you breast fed or bottle fed them. They can still end up having Colic anyways. Children who had Colic as infants will grow up to be like every other kid who didn t have Colic. Parents may become confused in knowing whether it is a normal cry because they need their diaper changed to them having Colic. Infants who have Colic tend to have episodes of where they scream.... Rocking them helps relax their muscles. Infants can easily be calmed down by placing them on their back and turning the lights off, giving them a pacifier, holding them under warm water for a while and even wrapping them in a fuzzy
  • 10. My High School Internship At NASA My High School Internship at NASA During the fall semester of my junior year, my Aerospace Engineering teacher had a sign outside of his door about a program at NASA for high school juniors. Since I was interested in engineering, specifically Aerospace and NASA I decided to apply. So that night at the end of September I came home and filled out the application and wrote the essay and letters to my state representatives. I had told my parents at that point and they were excited and of course hoped I made it. I thought, There are thousands applying and I won t make it. . Little did I know how wrong that thought was. When I received an email from NASA it stated Congratulations and that was when I was like: WOW! . I was shocked to say the least, but proud that I had made it into this prestigious program at NASA, that has now changed my life. The first thing that the administrators told us was that there was an online portion that would last through February and would add upwards of 5 or so hours a week to our course load from school, as well as that we would design a mission to Mars. So me being involved in 3 AP classes, 2 Pre AP classes, and 2 different clubs one of which I was president, I was nervous as to how I would handle that load. So that first week in November I started my online portion of my NASA internship, I learned so much that week through reading articles about new science technologies and watching videos. The program followed the outline of four modules;
  • 11. Order and Chaos Order and chaos are related to and dependent on each other. The clear cut distinction between them is man made and an illusion. Society uses order to regulate all aspects of the world from nature to personal lives, while chaos allows for open mindedness and also provides an explanation for certain aspects of the world. This can be seen in science, theology, music, language, and imaginative play. Science is rational, logical, and orderly. It has the ability to break apart complex systems into simpler ones described by theories ad equations. This is seen in the description of the planets orbits, evolution, and Newton s laws. Scientists have a thirst for knowledge and seek understanding about the world around them. Their methods... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Anthropology, fossils, and other material evidence provide proof of evolution by similarities between organisms of the past and present ,including the controversial belief that humans evolved from apes. All these discoveries discredit the belief that humans were created to posses dominion over the world, and all that was created has existed from the beginning. The five percent of fundamentalists that are radical and use violence and other unusual means to support their views have made fundamentalism seem extreme and crazy. They discriminate against other Christians, who do not have their same views, and deem them not real Christians. They are also completely intolerant of other religions, offering no salvation outside their faith. Throughout the ages these two groups have clashed as seen in the trial of Galileo. The common denominator in Galileo s trial ,and other controversies between the ideologies is each group s stubbornness and intolerance of other views. One view can not exist without the other ,and they are both impractical and incomplete. The joining of the two is essential for a human being and the world as a whole. This point is clearly illustrated in the Library of Babel where all was known ,yet chaos was rampant because no faith could exist. Music can sometimes sound random, chaotic, and spontaneous but all music has a certain structure and fundamental

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 1.1 Aim of the research study Online shopping has been a growing phenomenon all over the world especially among countries with well developed infrastructure with marketing activities over the Internet (Kau, Tang amp; Ghose, 2003 ). Hawkins, Best amp; Coney (2001:592) are of the opinion that Internet sales will increase rapidly in years to come. Today we live in an age where the Internet has become an important medium for people in their daily lives. The Internet is an effective and efficient way to communicate with people, to manage banking transactions and to purchase goods and services. While the old way of going to a shop to get the feel and touch of a product before purchasing it is still nice, for certain services like booking airline or concert tickets have made the process much easier and efficient. Although predictions have been made on the future of online shopping and the increased growth in sales, the question arises as to why don t more South African businesses utilise this market? This question can go hand in hand with another question: Why do consumers in South Africa still prefer shopping at a shopping mall as opposed to the convenient way of shopping online? In order for South African businesses to retail their respective products or services online, there needs to be a profitable market of users for the respective businesses to

Rudolf Lab The Theorist, The Theory And The Context Part 1: The theorist, The Theory and The Context Rudolf Laban, a brilliant acting theorist, inspires many individuals, groups of actors and performers all over the world to this day. His progressive acting theories mold an individual into a character effortlessly and effectively. Although his ideas were not always appreciated, his critics only pushed him to better his techniques. Rudolf Laban was born on December 15th, 1879, in Bratislava, which used to be part of the Austro Hungarian Empire. His Father, a highly decorated Officer in the Army, hoped that Rudolf would follow in his footsteps; however, Rudolf found himself intrigued with the complexity of the arts. Furthermore, Rudolf Laban s theories focus primarily on movement. His movements are specific to what the actor intends on portraying. Not only so, but the movement of the actor would in turn directly reflect the character s personality. He believed every movement performed displayed a greater purpose to internally reflect on one s character. Thus, His movement theories help an actor to bring out the individuality of each character portrayed in a performance or dance. Part 2: Practical Explorations and Development of the Solo Theatre Piece For this solo piece, I chose to incorporate Laban s theories into an interpretive dance. I display, not two different characters movements, but one character s movements as he/she develops, learns, and grows throughout his/her lifetime. To do so, I will use shadows in the background to interact with the character in order to allow the audience to better comprehend my actions and movements throughout the song. As the actor, I conform to the story line and the character I am portraying by my movements and interactions with the shadows projected onto the backdrop of the stage. A Summary OfFrindle By Andrew Clements Frindle by Andrew Clements illustrated by Brian Selznick Nick Allen is a child full of ideas who decides to replace the word pen with the word frindle after his teacher has told him that words are formed by the people making them, therefore he must try it out for himself and gets six of his friends to commit to using the word frindle instead of pen. Nick and his friends made a big show about using the new word every time they needed to say pen, however Mrs. Granger, the fifth grade, language arts teacher was not in favor of the use of the word and asked them not to use it. That was not going to stop the group. So, the punishment for using the word was writing sentences in afterschool detention. The word caught on all over school ... Even after the recession had ended in 2009 the economic issues are still very prominent. Everything economically related to the health and welfare of the vast majority of our American citizens, has sky rocketed in a very negative way. Students, parents, children and families alike have, and continue to struggle with hunger on a day to day basis. Our communities have become impoverished with food, expanding state to state with hunger and even starvation. New York City, has become a haven of families struggling with the realities that hunger can bring. How long can we live like this before somebody does anything about this? The research on this matter has some astonishing numbers, NYC Hunger Exp. 2012: One City Two Realities writes: In 2012, almost three in four New York City households with children with annual incomes of less than $25,000 (70 percent) had difficulty affording needed food. The percentage having difficulty is up 30 percent from 2011 (54 percent), representing the biggest increase since the start of the poll in 2003 and the biggest increase of any population group in this year s poll. Soon after the recession, the numbers have still risen, and these recent statistics have proven the dramatic need for help on an individual level for low income families. As the statistics grow, the median

ABSTRACT To determine the effects of gamma radiation in inducing mutation on the growth of corn (Zea mays), an experiment using corn seeds exposed in to different rate of radiation (0kr, 10 kr, 30 kr, and 50 kr) was done. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Theoretically, the control should have the highest percent germination rate, but since errors which can be attributed from the environment as well as from other physical factors are present, results obtained cannot be avoided. The treatment with the highest irradiation rate (50 kr) has the lowest rate of seed germination. However, in Table 2, results indicated that treatment under the former has the highest percent mortality rate (100 %) while the lowest obtained by the control treatment (40%). In Figure 1, results obtained showed that the treatment with highest average plant height was under Treatment 10 kr. The final average plant height under this treatment was 28.58 cm compared to the 25.98 cm of control, 20.87 of 30 kr and 6.04 of 50 kr. Again, theoretically, the control should have the highest average plant height but results showed otherwise. Through the obtained data, it can be concluded that exposing seeds to radiation can induce mutation which in the end could affect the growth rate, germination rate as well as the mortality rate of the plant. Observations and data obtained showed that the rate of radiation is inversely proportional to the percent germination and height of corn plants thus proving that percent germination and height decreases as amount or

Because, in this experiment, we use the same type of paper, of course, the weight would be the same, but it s distribution across the entire plane. For example, simpler designs usually have an almost even amount of weight across the entire plane, but more complex and complicated designs have a tendency to have many folds that bundle the paper around the tip. This is because all the extra weight that is in that one spot helps in the plane s overall ability to cut through the wind, being more wind resistant ( Choosing the Best Paper for the Paper Airplane, n.d.). • 22. Positivist Criminology Just as there are many types of crimes, there are also many explanations for crime. The three frames of reference for explanations of crimes are the classical criminology approach, the positivist criminology approach, and the behavior of law. The most effective approach to explaining crime is the positivist approach since uncontrollable factors such as the environment, socialization, and education can make a person more prone to committing crimes. In positivist criminology, a person commits a crime because outside factors influenced them. For example, a person is more likely to commit a crime if they live in poverty. In today s society, it is easier for someone to rob or steal rather than to get a job and work for their money. Not to mention, it is harder for those who live in poverty to get jobs since most employers only want the best of the best working for their company. Living in poverty can also affect a person s mentality. Trying to figure out how to overcome poverty can be stressful, and this can take a toll on people s mental health and cause them to commit acts that they wouldn t have committed if they were in their normal state of mind. Another factor that can influence crime is socialization, which is the process of learning how to properly behave. If someone grew up having a distant relationship with their parents, they might be more likely to commit a crime. A parent is a child s first and best teacher. A good parent should teach their child right

However, there is a large spectrum of students with disabilities, and more needs to be done in order to meet every individual s needs. Julie Verdonik too believes that the program can be successful, and has confidence in the special needs students at Maple Grove. With all of this success, why is it necessary that the special education system be reevaluated? Despite the potential for success that IDEA creates, there are many students whose needs are not yet being met. Some states in our country ignore the act altogether, and do not provide their students with the resources and materials they need to be successful. In many cases, teachers in general education are not trained enough to handle students with special needs being a part of their classroom (Gable). The two of these factors combine to create an environment that slows down the learning process at no fault of the child. On top of that, many low income areas do not receive enough funding to afford to service their students to the best of their ability, further hindering the child. Misdiagnosis is also a problem commonly found in low income areas that holds students back from reaching their full potential (Koch). Students that are simply falling behind due to overcrowded classrooms are subjected to remedial reading and other needs based classes when they don t actually suffer from any disability (Koch). In some states, children with special

Thus the angelic description of her physical features is very ironic. Heavenly, and Christian images are seen throughout this short story, such as Julian being described as St. Sebastian, and Julian s mother reminding him that Julian s grandmother was a Godhigh. Perhaps the images foreshadow the upcoming death of Julian s mother, and her belief that she absolutely deserves to go to heaven when she dies, though she does not know she will die by the end of the story. Julian s mother believes she has done everything right in her life, and though she is a very earnest and selfless woman, she is hardly an angel. The passage also alludes to Julian s mother being a child, or a ten year old, which may have been the age when she knew Caroline, her darky nurse. At the end of the story, she calls out for Caroline, probably because Caroline was the one who would have helped her when she was a child and in trouble, but it is poignant that she is described as being young, and in the last seconds of her life, she reverts back to the childhood that she still resembles, even after all her years and troubles. The Problem With Opioids As A Sole Source Of Relief The problem with opioids as a sole source of relief is that not only are they physically and psychologically addictive, but the user also begins to build a tolerance to the therapeutic effects. Eventually one requires higher doses in order to achieve the initial levels of pain relief. As the dose increases, so does the level of dependency and addiction. If a doctor refuses to increase the dose for the patient s safety, the pain returns and patient may begin to feel the effects of opiate withdrawal. In worst case scenarios people begin to abuse alcohol or seek out prescription pain medication illegally. Hidden Talents is about a group of friends who discover their powers while saving their school from other kids. It s sequel, True Talents, is about the same group of friends who use their powers to defeat Bowdler, a very dangerous man. The two books have different characters, conflicts, and settings, but the themes are similar. Though the two books are about the same group of kids, the main characters change. In Hidden Talents, the main characteris Martin Anderson. Martin Anderson, meet Philip Grieg (page 14). Because of the choices, people seem to be happier to make their own choices. However, Martin E.P. Seligman, the author of Authentic Happiness, would argue that they are not happy because that kind of happinessdoes not last long. In his book, Seligman explains that there are two kinds of happiness, pleasureand gratification. He says, [t]he pleasures are delights that have clear sensory and strong emotional components, what philosophers call raw feels : ecstasy, thrills, orgasm, delight, mirth, exuberance, and comfort. They are evanescent, and they involve little, if any, thinking (102). As he shows, pleasure is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to him, gratification is a key for people to have a good life. However, Seligman explains, [g]ratification dispels self absorption, and the more one has the flow that gratification produces, the less depressed one is (119). Although it is clear that people need gratification more than pleasures, he points out that [t]o start the process of eschewing easy pleasures and engaging in more gratifications is hard (119). This difficulty of attaining gratification might make people to choose pleasure rather than gratification. Thus, according to Seligman s definitions of happiness, it is easier for humans to seek pleasure rather than to seek gratification. Arnett notes, in global culture, people value on individualism, free market economics, and democracy and include freedom of choice, individual rights, openness to change, and tolerance of differences (779). Barth Reflection God Here and Now When looking at the common theme that Barth develops in God Here and Now, it becomes apparent for the need of congregation to justify, ratify, and promote the Bible as the living word of God. When and where the Bible constitutes its own authority and significance, it mediates the very presence of God through the congregation. Encountering this presence in the Church, among those whose lives presume living through the Bibles power and meaning. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addressing the question, if Barth seems to put much stock in any apologetic case for Scripture s place and meaning, his apologetics is one of faith and compliance to this visible form of the Word of God. Therefore, what makes Holy Scripture holy is Barth s affirmation of the fallen nature of the prophets and apostles and yet the divinity of scripture (Barth, 2003, p. 59). Barth s strong emphasis in the scripture s fallible authors, however upholds that despite the humanity of the biblical witness it is a form of the word of God relay by the Holy Spirit. His affirmation that Christ is the very subject of scripture summons an Christological exegesis (p. 60). He approaches the validity of the biblical witness through the subject and content of the Bible. Ultimately, all infallibility and authority is due to God through faith; Christ is the subject of scripture, therefore, the one who gives the authority and significance. Barth, once again, provides a spiritual view of scripture and not a subjective approach and interpretation. Barth s claim there is no room for natural revelation or even a doctrine of verbal inspiration. God speaks only through his Word and scripture is testimony to God s self revelation. The importance of this is establishing the role of scripture in the ascendency and authority of the church congregation as unique in that it can be, and only be, through the authority of the Scripture. For Barth, sound exposition comes when we hold the

Although earnings management is not a new phenomenon, the emerging of the fraud cases such as Enron, Lehman Brothers, and other instances of financial fraud have again put this topic in the spotlight. Emerging concerns over earnings management have led to new disclosure requirements and the implementation of corporate good governance codes such as the Sarabanes Oxly Act (SOX), tabaksblat and other corporate good governance codes to reduce this phenomenon within firms. The role of financial reporting is to portray the economic position of a firm in a timely and credible manner. For information to be useful it should be relevant and reliable (accounting book). Because the reported earnings could affect the decision making of stakeholders or contractual outcomes which are related to remuneration of managers or debt covenants, managers have strong incentives to adjust earnings to a desired pre determined level (Watts, 1990) . Although established accounting standards limit the use of opportunism, the determinant is that managers have flexibility in choosing the accounting method, and the existing information asymmetry between them and external stakeholders allows them to prepare the financial reports to their own advantage. They both have a ship that they are famous for, Star Wars has the Millennium Falcon and the Death Star while Star Trekhas the USS Enterprise. Each ship has similar means of transportation, Star Trekhas warp drive where Star Wars has Hyperspace. There are differences in the main objective of both series. Star Wars is mainly about conflict, a constant battle between the light and the dark as the characters strive to balance their sides of the force. Whereas Star Trek is mainly about peace, space exploration and going where no man has gone before. Star Trek is a bit more logical and grounded in science while Star Wars induces supernatural elements such as the force. Therefore, Star Trek is science fiction while Star Wars can mainly be thought of a science fantasy. In addition to science, Star Trek focuses on topics like ethics and morality and problem solving. In order to test the theoretical model proposed before, primary data will be collected using an online survey. Surveys collect data from a population of respondents as an attempt to understand behavior in a variety of contexts (Negrine Newbold, 1998). According to Bostrom (1998), surveys are an appropriate research approach to use to understand consumer behavior (Negrine Newbold). Furthermore, surveys make use of a formal set of questions to estimate the distribution of characteristics in a sample (Dillman, 2000, p. 9) and are able to provide empirical data to lend support or negate hypotheses or propositions (Negrine Newbold). Finally, surveys are administered to describe, find, or validate specific proposed relationships (Reagan, 2006, p. 92), as the relationships which are presented in the previous section. The survey was administered online using Qualtrics technology. Qualtrics is a web based survey tool that offers to researchers the opportunity to create comprehensive surveys for academic purposes (Qualtrics, 2011). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After some research, I found out that cardinal sine could not be solved by elementary means and that its integral was, in fact, a crucial part of the Gibbs phenomenon, which will be expanded upon in the Applications section (Pg. 8) of this investigation. My aim for this investigation is to prove the integral of cardinal sine to be sine integral and to approximate five (5) values of the sine integral function. Afterwards, I will show how this is relevant in both mathematics and other, more practical, applications. Exploration In order to organize the mathematical exploration most effectively, the exploration will begin with the following problem: Prove that ∫⠖’sinвЃЎx/x is equal to Si (x). Approximate Si (0), Si (ПЂ/6), Si (ПЂ/4), Si (ПЂ/3), and Si (ПЂ/2) using a Taylor polynomial of order 3 at 0 for f(x) = Si (x). In order to verify the results of the approximations, Wolfram Alpha, an online calculator capable of processing the sine integral function, will be used. To begin with, the Taylor series representation of the sine integral function is as such: Si (x)=∑_(n=0 )^в€ ћв–’(( 1)^n x^(2n+1))/(2n+1)(2n+1)! At this point, it is necessary to find the Taylor series representation of sinвЃЎx/x. First, the Taylor series representation of sin (x) is: ∑_(n=0)^в€ ћв–’(гЂ–( 1)гЂ—^n x^(2n+1))/(2n+1)! Therefore, sinвЃЎx/x is equal to: 1/x ∑_(n=0)^в€ ћв–’(гЂ–( 1)гЂ—^n x^(2n+1))/(2n+1)! Which is equal to: ∑_(n=0)^в€ ћв–’(гЂ–( 1)гЂ—^n x^(2n+1))/x(2n+1)!

The Tragedy Of Offensive Realism And The Rise Of China The tragedy of offensive realism: Classical realism and the rise of China Realism is one of the most dominant international relations theories in the academic world. But within Realism, Realists are split on a number of issues. A perfect example of which being the rise of China. Over the past 30 years China has increased not only in population and power, but has also achieved one of the strongest economies in the world. The rise of China is seen as problematic by many realists. Since the end of the Cold War and the fall of the Soviet Union, the US has enjoyed a position of hegemony in the unipolar power structure of the world. Many fear that the rise of China could upset the current balance of power. One such individual is a prominent realist scholar, John Mearsheimer. He believes that war with China is inevitable and calls for the US to do whatever it can to slow China s rise. Another political theorist Jonathan Kirshner wrote this paper to counter many of Mearsheimer s claims, stating that Mearsheimer s offensive realism is wrong, and dangerous . Kirshner suggests that instead of using offensive realism we should look instead to the theories roots in classical realism to analyse the rise of China. For realists the international system is anarchical, war is an ever present threat and the survival of a state is never guaranteed. This is why security is the main focus of most realists. States are forever seeking greater amounts of security, in a never ending search.
