The books of the Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John; where written over 2000
years ago. These books excluding the Gospel of John are often called the synoptic
Gospels. The term synoptic is derived from the Greek word meaning seeing
together. These three books are comparable in their recording of the existence and

The common belief among source critics is that, the Gospel of Mark is the oldest and
Matthew and Luke used his gospel along with an unknown source to write their
Gospels. Evidence supporting this view make the makes four points. First, the
Luke s Gospel is contains approximately half of Mark s information and Matthew s
Gospel encompasses almost all of Mark s views. Second, Mark s words are used
verbatium Matthew and Luke. Third, Matthew and Luke follow the same sequence
of events as Mark. Finally, Matthew and Luke sometimes reword Mark s
uncomfortable passages of scripture to allow smooth transitions and ease of
understanding.[5] Markan Priority The Markan Priority is the belief that Mark was
the first to write his account then Matthew and Luke used his recordings along with
an unknown source to write their accounts. Although it is said that Matthew and
Luke used Mark s account and another unknown source to write their versions of
the gospel, it is also believed that Mark used some unknown source to supplement
his gospel as well.[6] Weaknesses in the Markan Priority To accept the Markan
Priority one must first denounce the word of Jesus, that the Holy Spirit would bring
all things back to their remembrance ; the testimonies of the early church leaders and

everyday life. Everyone was participating in sport. That included whites, blacks,
lower class citizens, upper class citizens, and women. The playing field was a zone

Following the Civil War, black Americans found success through athletics, which
promoted racial segregation because white Americans felt threatened by the
achievements and growing power of black Americans. White athletes used athletic
clubs to prohibit black participation in sports in a similar way to how they
segregated against lower class citizens. The Jockey Association was an example of
these racially exclusive athletic clubs. It was a white only jockey club that was
formed in response to Isaac Murphy s achievement in horse racing. Isaac Murphy
was a talented black horse jockey who won forty four percent of his races, which
was an inconceivable stat line for this craft. Murphy s most famous race pitted
himself (riding Salvator) against a white jockey nicknamed, Snapper Garrison
(riding Tenny) in 1890. The derby was commercialized as a race war black versus
white. Murphy won the race and was at the height of his career because of it.
White jockeys noticed his success and decided that they did not want to have to
compete against the likes of Isaac Murphy, so they formed the Jockey Association.

In the play Sweat by Lynn Nottage, the characters face challenges in which they
attempt to understand how and why the factory where most of them work is
downsizing, and more importantly what they will do if it does. Cynthia, a middle
aged African American woman, decides to apply to a higher position before news
of the downsizing breaks; when Cynthia gets the job, her friends are bitter and
express it which makes Cynthia feel stressed about making her job useful as a sort of
representor for those who still work in the conditions of the factory floor. Though she
spent over twenty years on the floor working manually with her friends, she gets

Always been (Nottage 48), which suggests a loyalist mentality as well as a
territorial perspective. She says this to a guy named Oscar who did not work in
the factory, but later on was one of the few people who agreed to under pay cuts
and bad working conditions, creating a division between him and the rest of the
group. The people in this play surround their lives around their physical working
environment so much so that they can only see their future as it has been predicted.
This can be seen through two of the younger characters, Chris and Jason, who are
both in their twenties and have spent their entire working careers in the factory.
Both young men have a moral environment that is very influenced by their lives
and their jobs, which have always been occupied by a family mentality. When the
lockout occurs and Hispanic workers in the area, including Oscar, begin occupying
the jobs the boys had previously held, they begin to get angry at the new employees.

changing which has given rise to new hurdles that must be overcome. One of the
issues that we are currently facing in many tertiary facilities is the need for set
criteria involving intensive care unit admissions and discharges. Throughout the
country the total number of intensive care unit (ICU) beds are on the rise, but the
current supply still outnumbers the demand (Cognet Coyer, 2014). The cost of
staying in an ICU is continuing to increase with technology, and there are
limitations that insurance companies and the government have set forth to the
number of days a patient can reside there dependent upon his diagnosis and
condition. Intensive care units will continue to undergo strain due to high census,
and decisions to discharge patients will be effected (Wagner, Gabler, Ratcliffe,

ICU bed is based upon whether or not they are sick enough to be there or if they
are well enough to be discharged to a progressive care unit (PCU) or medical
surgical unit (Meyer, 2003). A progressive care unit is a step down from an ICU, but
has stricter criteria for admission than a medical surgical unit based upon the patients

In Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales, the prioress s behavior can be
interpreted as being part of the change occurring within religious institutions, which
were changing to allow for freedom of thought and individual choice, as the nun
does when she takes the liberty of customizing her fine garb by wearing it with
beads and a gold brooch. The nun is one of the first characters to be given a name
and as such is identified as being an individual, and not just seen as being a nun. The

Though the prioress is a religious figure who is suppose to be practicing
moderation, piousness, and charity, she is instead refining behavior that is
expected of the courts, which is unnecessary in religious institutions. The extensive
description of her elegant attire and courtly manners paints a portrait of excessive
pompousness and arrogance. The extravagance of the nun s clothes also shows
that rather than living in humble poverty, the nun is living a lavish life, which
portrays her in a corrupt light because she does not abide by the teachings of the
convent. The nun further demeans religious codes through her obsession with
worldliness. The nun s boundless love for her dogs, and the tears that she sheds
for animals demean the respect and love that she should be directing towards God
because she shows that she loves the material more than she does anything else.
Her brooch that reads Amor vincit omnia (162) is a display of her affection
towards worldly material items because her love is imprinted on her brooch instead
of being expressed through her actions. The nun s focus on worldly items reflects the
corruption that was overtaking religious institutions as more individuals within it
began to incorporate the ambitions and ideals of aristocracy into their religious
practices. Negative imagery is used by Chaucer to undermine the effects of the

There is barely any light and most likely Ginger is having to get used to less light. In

of the baseline and treatment phases, three 5 min speech samples were obtained in

One day in the Life of Ivan Desinovich by Alex Solzhenitsyn, published in 1962
describes the Gulag as a prison used by the Soviet government under Stalin to
dehumanize it s prisoners. Despite being in the Gulag, Alexander Solzhenitsyn
manages to survive these experiences and describes them through the use of Ivan
and his fellow protagonists. Solzhenitsyn explores this topic by employing vivid
imagery while appealing to the Russian people with his symbolism and allegories.
The combination of themes and motifs communicate to the Russian people how a

Russian people, he uses it as a way to get through what happens in the Gulag
through the use of third person, a combination of visual imagery, motifs,

and the techniques used by the Gulag to dehumanize its prisoners. He also uses
them to develop the characters, as each character is a symbol of people he met in
