Power In The Handmaids
According to Gilead s leaders, the United States had an ongoing infertility crisis as well as too much
separation of religion and government, prior to the takeover. The Gilead s founders were called the
Sons of Jacob that used lobbied for a more extreme Christian bend to the government. Its major
national issue, sterility consequent on nuclear and chemical pollution, turns its few fertile women into
Handmaids to its highest level Commanders and their wives, using as justification the biblical story of
Rachel and Jacob. The barren Rachel directed her husband Jacob to go in unto her servant Bilah and

A limited amount of power is given to a small segment of the group of people who are the aim of
control, thus creating a crack in the unity of that group. Those who have been given this power will
strive to retain it because of the advantages it provides but also in fear of retaliation; while those who
are really in power, in this case the ruling males of Gilead, have created a security buffer between
them and the oppressed women. Men are the rulers, some women have limited power, and most
women are controlled and have no power. The representatives of these women with limited power in
the novel are the Aunts . They are the women who are convinced that this kind of rule of Gilead is
justified. The Aunts like Aunt Lydia, belongs to the class of women assigned to coach the Handmaids
with the beliefs of Gilead and it is her words that drum the ideology of the new society into the heads
of the women. Aunt Lydia says, The Republic of Gilead, knows no bound. Gilead is within you ,
showing the sense of power the government holds and a characteristic associated with the
totalitarianism regime. Offred s response to this is seen at the end of her visit to the Doctor and she
says It s the choice that terrifies me. A way out, a

Core Competencies and the Planning and Implementing of Information Technology Abstract With any
organization, rather it be civilian or military focused, there is a common element that resides;
organizational competencies. These competencies is what makes any organization unique and
identifies how they do the things they do, how relationships with institution division and external
entities are developed and handled. With Information technology shifting from an administrative
support tool to a strategic role within the organization, the question, or debate, is whether or not the
planning and implementation of information technology, based on strategic goals, essentially share the
same organizational competencies. This article will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I would agree in part, but not wholly. In fact, I agree that Information Technology will be implemented
into the organization in such a way that promotes and ensures organizational success of its strategic
goals, but I would have to disagree on the order between organizational strategic goals and
organizational competencies. With traditional organizational planning, most organizations have each
part (department) determine specific programs and projects to support the organizations strategic
goals. This is also known as a mix of bottom up and top down planning. The organization creates
strategic goals, disseminates it across the organizations departments and has each department design
or implement projects and programs to achieve or support the organization with achieving those goals.
Instead, if we shifted the level importance from organizational strategic goals to the effective
implementation and recognition of organizational competencies, then it is more likely that the
organization as a whole will be better aligned across all parts (departments) and each part will more
likely identify the appropriate strategic goals. In a report by Cullen Coates and Associates in 2008,
Managing Organizational Competencies, they define this as the process of determining how each part
of the organization can contribute to each competency will cause all parts of

Toys R Us Case Study Conclusion
Chapter 5: Summary, Recommendations, and Conclusions
Summary
This paper researched the fact that the Toys R Us Company was displaying a weakness in financial
related issues due to the lack of proper strategic planning. This made the company susceptible to many
threats in the industry s competitive environment. The research has shown that its main competitors
Walmart, Target, and Amazon are functioning successfully in the industry while Toys R Us heads for
bankruptcy. This research emphasizes the fact that Toys R Us has not taken steps to strategize its
operations properly which resulted in a loss of revenue and opportunities in their environment. If the

Mr. Brandon, CEO of Toys R Us, Inc. stated There is simply no reason to go somewhere else our
focus is kids and families every day of the year unlike some of our competitors who only play (pun

gained competitive advantage recently is by introducing Play Labs nationwide. Play Labs are a free
reality application which includes AR games and play experiences that children can play on their
smartphone or tablet devices while they are in the stores shopping. Toys R Us is now more than just a
place to shop, they have created experiences which bring their stores to life with their interactive
games that the kids highly enjoy playing (Toys R Us Inc, 2017). There are different ways how Toys R
Us can reach profitability by obtaining customers year round. The company should appeal to its
established historic customer base that will respond to its stores because of their loyalty to the
company. The company can do this by opening new product lines. They can focus on obtaining
products that are high in demand by their competitors. They can use their already established company
popularity to obtain strong supplier relationships for the additional products. These will supply the

Recrystallization Lab
Purpose:
The purpose of recrystallization lab is to recrystallize cream of tartar from water.
Procedure:
1. Obtain and weigh a sample of potassium hydrogen tartrate; use between 200 and 300 mg.
2. In a boiling water bath, heat a sample of distilled water.
3. Dissolve your sample in a minimum of water. To do this, add the water drop wise to your solid,
stirring well between each drop, until the solid just dissolves. You might have to heat the test tube
while you are adding the water to keep the solution hot.
4. After getting the solid to dissolve, allow the solution to cool slowly and look for crystals. After the
solution has cooled to close to room temperature, cool it in an ice bath. Collect the solid using vacuum
filtration and your Hirsh ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Weigh the solid and after drying.
Data:
Cream of tartar = 0.218g
Empty plastic dish = 2.161g
Cream of tartar recovered with plastic dish = 2.212g
Calculations:
%recovery= amount recovered / initial amount x 100%
2.212g 2.161g = 0.051g
0.051/ 0.218 = 0.2339
0.2339 x 100 = 23.4%
Discussion:
My data is bad because in the calculations, it showed that it is 23.4 percent. However, the test tube did
show little bit crystals while using the spatula to scratch the tube.
Error Analysis:
There are few errors in the lab. The grams of cream of tartar might become less because it is hard to
scrape the crystals out of the test tube so it will be stuck inside the test tube and some of them is still in
the plastic boat dish. During the experiment, the water may have added too much that causing
precipitating out. Also, it is may not heat enough the test tube while adding hot water.
Modification:
We would spend more time scraping the test tube to create crystals and be more careful with adding
water so it won t precipitating out.
Conclusion:
We recrystallized cream of tartar from water with 23.4 percent recovery.

Natural Hazards In California
Natural hazards are different natural phenomena that disrupt the usual live of a population, destroy and
demolish objects of material value. They often have a negative effect on nature, and can happen
anywhere in the world. Many different types of natural hazards exist; for example, earth quakes,
landslides, floods, snow drifts, hurricanes, droughts, volcano eruptions, storms, etc. Natural hazards
can happen independently or can be related to each other. If there is an earthquake, it can lead to a
tsunami or massive fires. Some of them happen as a result of mankind s doings; construction work,
depending on the location, can cause snow drifts, or massive fires.

After using maps and facts to compare the risks of a natural disaster happening in different states:
California is the state with the most natural hazards. As an example, the San Andreas fault created the
deadliest earthquake, provoking over 3,000 deaths and destroying over 80% of the city of San
Francisco in 1906. The state of California is sitting between two tectonic plates, the north american
and pacific ones, the San Andreas fault runs the entire length of the state. California is subject to
season disasters; the fires that happen when the weather gets unbearably hot. That natural hazard is not
deadly, yet it brings a lot of material and ecological damage. The south western state is know to have
many hills, it is a known fact that an abundance of rain and any elevated area of 20% or more can
provoke mud slides, that swipe anything they have on their way: people or material property.People

The On The Deep Sea
Jyotika Virmani, an oceanographer and XPrize s senior director of prize operations, stated in late 2015
ninety five percent of the ocean is unexplored. In fact, we have better maps of Mars. Every time we
go, we always find something new (Bathke). Exploring the deep sea has captured the imagination of
humankind ever since Leonardo da Vinci made drawings of a submarine more than 500 years ago in
1515. Since the early 20th century, people have been venturing into the ocean in submersible vehicles.
However, it was not until 1960 when Swiss oceanographer and engineer Jacques Piccard and United
States Navy lieutenant Don Walsh descended to the bottom of the Mariana Trench (10,915 meters) in

leisure and recreation). These battery operated vehicles allow two to four individuals generally pilots
and scientists, occasionally James Cameron to descend into the depths to make observations and
gather data and samples. The duration of these dives is limited by battery life, human endurance, and
safety protocols, but they typically do not last more than eight to ten hours, including descent time
which is approximately 4 hours for a seafloor depth of 4000 meters (Thorpe, Steele, Turekian).
Traditionally, humans have investigated the ocean from ships on its surface. But to really understand
what it s like on the seafloor, humans need to be on it. Even so, many aspects of ocean exploration are
best left to robots. Remotely operated vehicles, or ROVs, are another popular type of submersibles.
They are unmanned vessels controlled by scientists onboard a ship via a tethering cable. On the ship,
pilots send commands and power to the ROV. The ROV then sends back data and live video to those
on the ship. ROVs typically contain sonar equipment, video cameras, and still cameras. Depending on
the research objective, the ROV may also have manipulator arms for collecting samples of rock,
sediment, or ocean life to return to scientists (Lewis).
The last form of popular submersible, autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), are vehicles that can
navigate vast distances and collect scientific data without any human control.

Comparing Henry V And St. Joan Of Arc
Henry and Joan During the scenes of Henry V and St. Joan of Arc, it is noticed that there are certain
expectations that are expected of each Joan and Henry. Each of these individuals are expected of
different things based on their genders. Joan shows that being just a girl doesn t have to determine
what you do and Henry makes it known that if you do certain things that you believe in, that you are
still a man and shouldn t listen to what other have to say and to prove them wrong. This is where both
people have similarities and differences when it comes to their gender roles. For King Henry V, he is
doubted sometimes that he is not a true man and that since he is a king he should act like one. Henry
shows and tells that when he is having a conversation with his men about being a good king and man.
He said Though it s not my place to say so, I think the king is, after all, only a man, the same as me.
The violet smells to him the same as it does to me. The sky appears to him much as it does to me, and
all his senses are those of a mortal man. Without his fine clothes, the king appears just like any other
naked man. And though his feelings may be pitched higher than ours, when they plummet, they

The Movie Donnie Darko By Richard Kelly
Donnie Darko follows a mentally troubled teenage boy after his family survives a jet engine falling on
their home. Throughout the film, a delusional Donnie encounters a talking rabbit and eventually
discovers that he has been living in a parallel universe since his near death experience. To escape this
alternate timeline and save his mother and sister who are on the ill fated plane, Donnie realizes that he
must be killed by the engine and allows himself to die in the accident. The film has strong themes of
time travel and the future, much like Lee Edelman s The Future is Kid Stuff. Through his idea of
reproductive futurism, Edelman hypothesizes that the Child is the future and states that everything we
do has the ultimate goal of protecting the future. Edelman also believes that queers will not survive in
the future because they are unable to reproduce. The film Donnie Darko, directed by Richard Kelly,
challenges society s unrealistic expectations of a perfect nuclear family by juxtaposing a queer Donnie
with his heteronormative sister Samantha. When considered in the context of Lee Edelman s The
Future is Kid Stuff, this stark contrast confirms the theory of reproductive futurism and explains the
ending of the movie in which Donnie sacrifices his life so that his sister can survive.
By exposing the flaws in the seemingly perfect Darko family, the film challenges its viewers idea of
what a perfect nuclear family is while creating a substantial difference between the future

that husband and wife don t express their emotions for each other but in it doesn t mean they don t

Victim Blaming Definition
When a crime is committeed, there are always at least two individuals involved. There is the person
committing the crime and the person who is the victim of the crime. For most crimes there is no
debate who is the cause of the offense, the criminal. If a robber breaks into someone s house and steals
something, never is the house owner blamed for the incident. Why then is there a difference whem it
comes to rape? This is exactly what students of Utrecht University wanted to answer and how to
change it.
The student s hypothesis is that victim blaming can be significantly reduced when people mimic the
behavior of the victim or even a person unrelated to the crime. Victim blaming is a phenomenon that
occurs when someone who is rapped is believed to be at fault for the incident. Some believes this ...

rather difficult to assess mimicry on the covert scale so for this study overt mimicry was only
assessed. To properly prove mimicry promotes empathy the researchers preformed two studies. The
first study involved 15 students that were blind to the purpose of the study. They watched a video of a
woman talking about her classes. While this was happening researchers watched the audience s
behavior and recorded the times an individual copied the woman s behavior. At the end of the video
the participants read a scenario where a woman was rape. After they finished reading they were
informed the woman in the scenario is the same as the woman in the video. With this knowledge they
were asked to complete a survey to determine how much the woman was at fault for being raped. The
results showed that the more an individual mimicked the woman the less they blamed her for the being
raped. Also though this study already proves mimicry promotes empathy, the researchers wanted to do
a second study to see if this can be

person to create the sport was. There are 240 million people around the globe that play the game of

Malic Acid Vs Inorganic Acid
An organic compound with acidic properties is called an organic acid. An inorganic acid or mineral
acid is an acid derived from one or more inorganic compounds. The reason that organic acids are
weaker than mineral acids is that organic acids do not separate completely in water, whereas strong
mineral acids do separate completely in water. Organic acids do not react with metals. Harsh mineral
acids on the other hand react forcefully with metals. Inorganic acids are derived from inorganic
compounds and mineral sources, while organic acids have a biological origin. Mineral acids do not
contain carbon and organic acids do contain carbon. Uric acid is an example of mineral acids. Uric
acid is soluble in water and is a hetero cyclic compound which is composed of the elements: carbon,
nitrogen, oxygen, and hydrogen. A real world example in which uric acid is used is that uric and
ascorbic acid in the human body provide over half of the antioxidant capacity in the bloodstream
which means it is very important in our lives. Oxalic acid is another example of an inorganic acid.
Oxalic acid is a colorless crystalline solid that dissolves in water and gives a colorless solution. A real
world application of oxalic acid is cleaning and bleaching agent, and is very effective in removing
rust.
Malic acid is a dicarboxylic acid that is made by all living organisms. It has a clean, mellow, smooth,
persistent sourness, so it can be used to enhance flavor and blending abilities. It contributes to the sour
taste of fruits and can also be used as a food additive. It is used for alcoholic apple ciders to maintain a
sharp taste. In wines, the malolactic fermentation improves the flavor of the wine. It is also used in
acne creams and moisturizers to remove dead skin cells and remove acne. Citric acid has a sour taste
and is greatly present in fruits such as oranges. It is also a popular ingredient in most types of candy,
especially in sour candies. It is a weak organic acid and is used as a safe cleaning product. Formic acid
is a colorless liquid with a highly pungent, penetrating odor at room temperature. Interestingly, it can
be found in the venom of ants. Lactic acid is a well known acid. It is produced from pyruvate via the

Alternative Dispute Resolution And Arbitration Essay
Interest Arbitration In a situation where a dispute cannot be settled by the parties involved, there is a
need for a middle man. Instead of going straight into litigation, disputants are given the opportunities
to seek Alternative Dispute Resolutions. Alternative Dispute Resolutions are used widely around the
in the United in place of litigation. There are many types of Alternative Dispute Resolution and
Arbitration is one; however there are three types of arbitration: grievance arbitration, interest
arbitration and arbitration of statutory disputes. Arbitration is often used in labor relations to solve
issues that are under existing contracts. The focus of the paper is on interest arbitration. Interest
arbitration is used when an issue is not resolved in bargaining between the employer and the union,
[the dispute will be] presented to an impartial arbitrator for final resolution ( Learning about interest ,
n.d.). Before arbitration, the disputants would negotiate on a contract and if neither of them would
settle the union would call a strike or the employer can implement its last offer (Kersey Sherk, 2007).
They can call for a government appointed mediator after 90 days and submit a letter to arbitration after
30 days of mediation. The results of the settlement would last two years (Kersey Sherk, 2007). If the
either disputant is unsatisfied, they would have the option of litigation, if not, the arbitrations award is
binding which leaves the, with no other choices.

Reflection On The Process Of Bid Glass
This was my first time ever doing stained glass. My goal for this class was to learn the process of
stained glass, grow in patience, and grow in appreciation for the art. With all of the different aspects, I
feel like this goal was met. The first part of the process was cutting the glass. For this, the tools needed
was a glass/ball cutter, running pliers, grozing pliers, and (of course) your glass. Using the ball cutter,
you make a score on the glass. This should only ever be done once. After that is made, take the pliers
to break the glass. The running pliers are used for straight lines What you do is align the cut with the
line on the pliers and pinch, and the glass should break. The grozing pliers are used for non straight
cuts. For this, you take the pliers in one hand and your hand as the other and go on either side of the
score, then break or snap it upwards. Throughout this process I had a good amount of struggles. I first
struggled with figuring out how to position my hand, the amount of pressure that I should put on the
glass, and the angle to put my hand. Another struggle that I encountered was breaking off the glass
that had a curved score. Sometimes the glass wouldn t break, or other times the glass shattered . At
one point I ended up deeply cutting myself, but I went on with a makeshift band aid and got all of the
pieces cut. After all the pieces were cut, I went to the grinder and grinded them all. This didn t seem to
challenge me at all, but rather proved to

How I Went from Aching Loneliness to Blissful Solitude
It was an aching solitude. I sat in silence, ensnared within my chaotic mind while everyone s elated
voices stretched across the classroom like a contagious disease but my immunity was too study to
catch a speck of it. I was never a big fan of change, especially ones that strike you without any
warning. The transition from elementary to junior high wasn t the challenging part for me, it was the
fact that I felt alone. It never occurred to me that everything was temporary, even friendships. Initially,
going into seventh grade was absolutely petrifying, nearly all my friends was in a different T.A., while
in the other hand, I was placed in a class filled with unfamiliar faces. Everyone appeared to be
recognizable to each other, I felt as if I was an outcast, just a girl at the back of the classroom. At that
time, the most bothersome traits about me was that I was shy, reticent, and anxious. I swore there must
have been something wrong with me, how hard could it be to approach another student and simply
talk or just plainly introduce myself. Although, I attempted to be as optimistic as I possibly could, I
would still be able to be with my friends at lunch, afterschool, or parties. Another part of me that was
incommodious was that I clung onto my friends, they truthfully were extremely supportive and
entertaining people to be around, I cherished each and every one of the our memories together but
sadly, we gradually drifted apart. Instantaneously, even on the first

Short Story About The Haunted House
In the year of 1989, there was a street named Elm, in the state of Wyoming. Few chose to live on that

Besides, no one wants little kids tagging along with you to go trick or treating, when you could go

King Hades Research Paper
Hades was born on the island of Crete to Cronus and Rhea. When Hades was just an infant, he was
devoured by Cronus to prevent a prophecy. This prophecy stated that Cronus would be overthrown by
his children as the new rulers. Eventually, Hades and his siblings were freed by Zeus and Cronus was
overthrown. Hades went on to become the God of the Dead and King of the Underworld.
Hades was a bitter middle aged man whose heart softened once he saw Persephone, the daughter of
Zeus and Demeter. So he kidnapped her and brought her down into the Underworld. Demeter had
become infuriated with Hades and released her anger on the earth in the form of a time where no crops
should grow. Meanwhile, Persephone ate six pomegranate seeds which made her want

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch
The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is an accumulation of marine debris in the North Pacific Ocean.
Marine debris is trash that culminates up in oceans, seas, and other sizable voluminous bodies of
dihydrogen monoxide. Its also known as the Eastern Pacific Garbage Patch and the Pacific Trash
Vortex. It s located in a high pressure area between the U.S. states of Hawaii and California. This area
is in the middle of the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre. For many people, the conception of a garbage
patch displays images of an island of trash floating on the ocean. In reality, these patches are
conventionally composed of tiny bits of plastic, called microplastics. Microplastics that make up the
majority of garbage patches can t always be visible. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the article, The World s Largest Dump: The Great Pacific Garbage Patch , it mentioned that the
UNEP indicates that today 80% of all marine debris that washes ashore such as trash and toxic matter
originally comes from shore based activities such as fun parties at the beaches and picnics. For
example the cups that gets blown off the beach in San fransicso then it finds its way to the patch. The
inland, rivers and streams carry trash to the sea. Marah Hardt who is fellow from the Blue Ocean
Institute, mentions that a lot of people are not aware of the negtive impacts they have on the ocean
because they can t see it. They think its far out there while their waste, garbage disposals, drainpipes,
and sewers lead directly to the ocean. Factories dump and Air pollution seeps are just examples of
how the oceans become pulleted. There is another example of garbage patch that actually exist for
example Western Garbage Patch whish is located on the off coast of Japan. The Eastern Garbage Patch
located between California and Hawaii is the most intresting and attracts the greatest attention because
of its size and the fact that it lies closest to the biggest trash on the planet, the United States. Plastic

Methylcyclohexane Synthesis Essay
Discussion: While hydrogen is not normally observed as a functional group, however, one exception
involves free radical substitution through halogenation. This mechanism essentially function by first
initiation step in which the halogenated molecule splits into two halogenated radicals which is
followed by the formation of a hydrocarbon radical. The next step of the radical mechanism,
propagation, involves the hydrocarbon molecule reaction with a halogenated molecule, thus producing
a hydrocarbon halogen (R X) compound, and more halogenation molecule thus allowing the reaction
to continue on to completion. A control mechanism will allow for the prediction of what product will
be obtained from a radical reaction. If random chance of the halogen ... Show more content on

This is once again due the reasoning stated earlier, as in terms of hydrogen reactivity: benzene
aromatic ~ aliphatic tertiary secondary primary. This is based on the reasoning in Hammond s
Postulates that the more stable radical will have a smaller rate determining step and the transition state
will resemble the products more so, thus indicating why it can be considered more stable. The actual
order observed was methylcyclohexane ethylbenzene toluene tert butylbenzene ~ cyclohexane. This
was not the predicted order as methylcyclohexane should have reacted third fastest instead of reacting
first as observed, however, excluding the error of methylcyclohexane the rest of the prediction seem to
line up with the observed results. Since methylcyclohexane was the only contributor to the
misalignment with the predicted and observed indicates that some sort of error occurred in the process
of carrying out the reaction. The source of error is most likely due to the possibility that
methylcyclohexane had the bromine added to it a few seconds prior to being set down and timed for a
reaction. The reasoning behind this is because methylcyclohexane should react fast, however, should
still be slower than ethylbenzne and toluene. Another source of error that was likely a major
contributor was the amount of each compound present in the test tube. If too much of the arene was
added to the test tube a the reaction time will likely be noticeably slower as there will b more product
to brominate. Therefore, it is possible that the methylcyclohexane test tube (#13) had too little of
methylcyclohexane in it. The toluene reaction time at 15 seconds also indicates that this test tube
possibly had too much toluene placed in it, thus leading to a slower observed reaction time. Therefore,
it is unlikely that the initial prediction was wrong due to the reactivity of the

Concentration Of MIBK, Ethanol And Water In The Feed And...
In this experiment the concentrations of MIBK, ethanol and water in the Feed, Extract and Raffinate
streams were determined at Steady State, which would then be used with the equilibrium data
provided to calculate the theoretical number of stages required for separation. Once Steady State was
achieved, the components water, ethanol and MIBK reached consistent mole percent (mol%) values of
85.48 %, 13.15 % and 1.37 % respectively for the Extract Stream. Conversely, the Raffinate Stream
was had water, ethanol and MIBK mol% values of 12.84 %, 4.75 % and 82.41 % respectively.
As per the sample calculations in Appendix C, the Karr Reciprocating Plate Column effectively
extracted 90.24 % of the ethanol from the Feed stream into the Extract stream. As was expected, the
agitation aided in the separation process considering more surface area was made available for
interface interaction with smaller droplets.
Calculation of the number of equilibrium stages required, had to be done using a Ternary Diagram
(Figure 4). Equilibrium data was provided that could be plotted (Table A3); however, an average of
the component mol% for the Raffinate, Extract Feed and Solvent streams had to be determined. This
required the conversion the experimental data of the normalized volume percent (vol%) in Table A1
into mol% values, so the data points could be plotted on the Ternary Triangular Diagram. Conversion
from vol% to mol% was done by through consideration of the components respective density and

Servant Leadership Thompson
Samantha, I think that at some time everyone has encouraged or talked with someone else about which
path they should follow, whether it should be one of a career, or a vocation. In dealing with those
around me, it would depend on their situation, and whether this is a short term goal, as it can be with a
certain career, or whether they have the means to follow their own heart as in choosing a vocation.
Using these criteria, I would probably do things a little differently, considering what I now understand
about servant leadership. In the scenario present by Thompson about Annie (Thompson, p. 39) this
individual represents someone that is a little older (she had job security with a Fortune 200 company)

Jake relates to the other characters only superficially because he only looks at what he can get from
them. Jake wants Brett Ashley so that when he gets older he ll have companionship. Jake makes fun of
Robert Cohn to make himself look better than he is by putting someone else down. Jake also uses Bill
Gorton just to keep himself busy and not get bored. Near the end of the book Jake states, Next

French friends in Bayonne to make me welcome in case I should come back... This statement show
what friends really meant to Jake. They were people that would be some type of service to him.
Unfortunately, Jake does not undergo a change throughout the book. Jake stays the same uncaring,
selfish person from the beginning where Jake said he never thinks about how much he s wasted his
life to Robert Cohn, until the last line where Brett Ashley says, We could have had such a damned

The Book Of Revelation, The Final Book Of The Bible
The book of Revelation, the final book of the bible, is one of the most interesting and symbolic
readings for many. With an unknown author, apocalyptic foreshadowing, and obscure meanings, it has
been interpreted a number of different ways. Starting with the history, the symbolism, and ways to
interpret it, the aim of this paper is to give the reader a better understanding of the book. We know for
a fact that the book was written by John to the seven churches of Asia Minor I, John, your brother and
partner in the tribulation and kingdom and patience that are in Jesus, was on the island which is called
Patmos, because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. Revelations 1:9 10 There is
speculation that John was imprisoned on Patmos for the crime of not worshiping the Roman emperor.
It is a popular tradition for many to believe John the apostle to be the author of revelation, however
the writer of revelation never claimed to be an apostle. The literary form in this book is called
apocalyptic writing. This means that the book is not straight forward in delivering its message. The
actual message is concealed in symbols, numbers, and images. It is also considered a prophecy by
Catholics. This is stated in Revelation 1:3. Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of
this prophecy, and keep the things that are written therein; for the time is at hand. The purpose of the
letter was to contact the seven churches of Asia Minor, present day Turkey. It is

The Medici Bank Essay
Giovanni di Bicci de Medici founded the Medici bank in 1397 after splitting from his nephew to
establish a bank branch in Florence. As the new bank grew and expanded, so did the wealth and power
of the Medici family. When Cosimo il Vecchio de Medici, Giovanni s son, took over the banking
business in 1434, the increasing economic power of the Medici family allowed them to establish
themselves as effective rulers of Florence while keeping the republican system of government
nominally intact. The bank provided the Medici family a combination of economic and political power
that facilitated the stability of Medici rule. Thus, the failure of the Medici bank during the reign of
Lorenzo il Magnifico was key to the collapse of the Medici ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The political advantages of the bank also permitted the Medici family to maintain their control over
Renaissance Florence. On an international level, the bank provided the Medici family a degree of
favourable contact with the Pope and other Renaissance princes. The Medici thus relied on a system of
diplomacy in which they attempted to cultivate and maintain personal ties with individual rulers. As
historian Gene Brucker explains, This [system of] personal diplomacy was most likely to succeed
when it was reinforced by mutual interests; Medici loans to Francesco Sforza [the ruler of Milan] were
repaid when the latter sent troops to Florence to thwart a revolutionary movement. Milan was not the
only state to trade the Medici political favours for bank loans. Economic historian Raymond de
Roover, the author of the most comprehensive economic studies of the collapse of the Medici bank,
also notes that male relatives of the Pope s bankers (the Medici) received preferential treatment upon
entering the holy orders, and were rapidly made bishops, cardinals, and in some cases, popes.
Giovanni di Lorenzo de Medici, for example, received the tonsure at age seven and became a cardinal
at age fourteen because of the influence his father, Lorenzo il Magnifico, had with

It is a finely grained substance that is captured and recycled at power plants with a variety of uses in
the construction industry. Fly ash is most commonly used as a pozzolan as an admixture for Portland
cement in concrete production. According to the IEA Clean Coal Centre, there are over 2300 coal fired
power stations worldwide, where 620 of those plants located in China . Coal generates 54% of the
world s electricity and is the single biggest CO2 air polluter . Due to these statistics, it is obvious that
a significant amount of fly ash is also produced worldwide. The manufacture of fly ash requires a
considerable amount energy including the transportation of raw materials, electrical energy involved
in the operation of equipment and the energy required for the combustion inside a power plant. With
this, the production of fly ash produces air pollutants. These are NO2, SO2, particulates, mercury and
CO2. These pollutants have significant impacts on the degradation of the natural environment. Due to
this, there has been a significant drive to using alternative sustainable fuel sources in order to reduce
worldwide harmful emissions. However, because fly ash is simply a by product of power generation,
not the end product, it is in fact an environmentally conservative product, one that should be promoted
in the construction industry. If the percentage of fly ash recycled could be increased, it would

I Am Post A Review Today Of A Board Game
I thought I d post a review today of a board game that I bought for my kids this last Christmas. Yes, I
m aware that was 5 months ago, but it s honestly taken me this long to decide whether I love or hate it.
My family, including my 8yo and my 7yo, really enjoys playing Settlers of Catan, so when I found out
there was a version based on the building of the transcontinental railroad in the United States, my little
homeschooling heart just about burst. The game, Catan Histories: Trails to Rails, is around the $50
mark, so I hesitated... a lot. I finally caved over the holidays because... learning and Catan and
awesomeness awaited us if I could just fork over the cash. SPECS:
The box says this game is for ages 12+, 3 4 players, and that the game takes about 2 hours. In
comparison, the original Settlers of Catan game says it s for players ages 10+, 3 4 players (but you can
buy expansions for more players), and that the game takes about an hour. REALITY:
We ve played the original game with my younger kids without issue. The concepts are not too hard for
them to understand, but I ve never met a Catan game that only lasted an hour. Ever. It usually takes us
2 3 hours, even when it s all adults playing and no kids. Basically, I don t believe a word on the box.
Trails to Rails is actually more accurate on the box, but I still don t think a game could be completed
in 2 hours. The 12+ age range is probably a good suggestion, but you know your own kids. It could be
fun for a child

Linux Operating System (graduate level CIS term paper)
1. What Is Linux?
Linux is an operating system that was initially created as a hobby by a young student, Linus Torvalds,
at the University of Helsinki in Finland. Linus had an interest in Minix, a small UNIX system, and
decided to develop a system that exceeded the Minix standards. He began his work in 1991 when he
released version 0.02 and worked steadily until 1994 when version 1.0 of the Linux Kernel was
released. The current full featured version is 2.4 (released January 2001) and development continues.

Process management creates processes, and implements multitasking by switching the active process
on the processor.
At the lowest level, the kernel contains a hardware device driver for each kind of hardware it supports.
Since the world is full of different kinds of hardware, the number of hardware device drivers is large.
There are often many otherwise similar pieces of hardware that differ in how they are controlled by
software. The similarities make it possible to have general classes of drivers that support similar
operations; each member of the class has the same interface to the rest of the kernel but differs in what
it needs to do to implement them. For example, all disk drivers look alike to the rest of the kernel, i.e.,
they all have operations like `initialize the drive , `read sector N , and `write sector N .
Some software services provided by the kernel itself have similar properties, and can therefore be
abstracted into classes. For example, the various network protocols have been abstracted into one
programming interface, the BSD socket library. Another example is the virtual filesystem (VFS) layer
that abstracts the filesystem operations away from their implementation. Each filesystem type
provides an implementation of each filesystem operation. When some entity tries to use a filesystem,
the request goes via the VFS, which routes the request to the proper filesystem driver.

Toto, Were Not in Kansas Anymore
I was not surprised when I was told we were moving again. Moving from place to place was
something I accepted into my life. My mom always had a good reason to leave and start a new

while we were riding in the car. My sister and I mourned over our lives we were leaving behind for the
remainder of that ride. Our brains were programmed to adapt to new things rapidly, so the mourning
stage did not last very long. I guess you could call it a survival instinct. Anyway, just after two days of

Why Is a Solution to the Israel-Palestine Conflict so Hard...
Israeli Palestinian conflict could be described as a clash that between Israelis and Palestinian Arabs as
they attempted to compete the same piece of land briefly (Dowty 2008:1, 4). The reasons that prevent
a solution to the Israeli Palestinian problem will be discussed and will be divided into three parts,
Israeli reasons, Palestinian reasons and the common problem between two countries.
In terms of Palestinian reasons, there are three reasons, the United Nation General Assembly (UNGA)
Resolution 181, consequence that Israel was established in 1948 and settlement policy is enforced in
Palestinian territory by Israel.
For the UNGA Resolution 181, Israeli occupied more territory than Palestinians. In 1947, two state

(El Hasan 2010: 55). However, Arabs occupied 43 45.5% of land in Palestine even the population of
Arabs in Palestine was 2/3 (Soderblom 2003). This was unfair to them. Besides, Jews claim that they

tie between Jews and Palestine for more than 3,700 years, so it is their historic homeland (Gans 2008:
101; Brown 2011: 139). In contrast, Palestinians argue that there were only 1/4 of Jews lived in
Palestine before 70 AD, this does not mean that Jews lived there can compete the land (Lorimer and
Malloy 2002: 7). Besides, Palestinian thought the UNGA Resolution 181

The Order Falconiformes Is Less Unified Than Other Orders...
The order Falconiformes is less unified than other orders of birds. Specific features of particular
groups resulted from similar ways of life, which gives the Falconiformes similar adaptations.
Taxonomy systems even divide this order into three orders of Vultures, Raptors and Falconids. The
most frequent classification, under which 295 species are divided into 5 families: Cathartidae,
Pandionidae, Accipitridae, Sagittariidae and Falconidae. Falconids (Falconidae) includes 61 species
from almost all over the world. Birds of Prey have adapted to hunting for prey by having their four
toes arranged in a 3:1 perching grip, their claws have evolved in to razor sharp talons that easily allow
birds of prey to rip through theirs preys flesh whilst in flight. With specialised hunters such as the
Accipitridae and Falconidae, their back talon is the longest and sharpest to secure the prey while in
flight. Birds of prey also rely on their specialised bill and upper mandible features characteristic
projections, tomial teeth and sharp hooked bills to tear the flesh of their prey. Birds of prey have
proportionally larger eyes for their head and have correspondingly keen eyesight. Similar to all
predators and prey, most birds of prey have slightly forward facing eyes in comparison to smaller
birds that are preyed upon. Most birds of prey don t have a sense of smell with exception to the New
and Old World Vultures (Cathartidae and Accipitridae) which uses their sense of smell to scavenge

Water Evenness
We found that water s edge contained a much higher species richness and Shannon diversity index
than the other two, but the evenness is lower than the other two. The higher species richness and
Shannon diversity index could be due to the diverse vegetation growing around the pond. The lower
evenness tells us that this site is less diverse than the other two sites. Secondly, the wooded area
contained slightly lower species richness and Shannon diversity index than the water s edge; however,
the evenness was higher than the evenness at the water s edge. Due to the lower amount of species and
that the site is subject to runoff could cause the slight difference in the species richness and Shannon
diversity index. It also affects the higher ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The high evenness is due to fewer species being present at this site. The results of this lab supported
my hypothesis that the water s edge would have the highest biodiversity, the wooded area would have
medium biodiversity, and the manicured lawn would have the lowest biodiversity. The reason that the
results support my hypothesis is that the water s edge had a diverse vegetation around it for a variety
of species to be found. It also had the pond where species could be found. The wooded area contained
many layers of leave coverage which is good for some species but bad for others. The wooded area is
also subject to runoff which reduced the number of small species that could be found on the ground.
The manicured lawn is cut often causing a reduced amount of species that would be found on the
ground and not enough trees to counteract the cutting affect. The biodiversity of the three sites are
comparable by the evenness being greater with low species richness. The sites are also comparable by
the shannon diversity index being higher as the species richness is increased. An ecological
explanation that we observed was that an area with low evenness were less likely to interact with each
other. The area with a higher evenness would

  • 2. Power In The Handmaids According to Gilead s leaders, the United States had an ongoing infertility crisis as well as too much separation of religion and government, prior to the takeover. The Gilead s founders were called the Sons of Jacob that used lobbied for a more extreme Christian bend to the government. Its major national issue, sterility consequent on nuclear and chemical pollution, turns its few fertile women into Handmaids to its highest level Commanders and their wives, using as justification the biblical story of Rachel and Jacob. The barren Rachel directed her husband Jacob to go in unto her servant Bilah and she shall bear upon my knees, that I also may have children by her. With the rapid rise of industries, a steep increase in pollution and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A limited amount of power is given to a small segment of the group of people who are the aim of control, thus creating a crack in the unity of that group. Those who have been given this power will strive to retain it because of the advantages it provides but also in fear of retaliation; while those who are really in power, in this case the ruling males of Gilead, have created a security buffer between them and the oppressed women. Men are the rulers, some women have limited power, and most women are controlled and have no power. The representatives of these women with limited power in the novel are the Aunts . They are the women who are convinced that this kind of rule of Gilead is justified. The Aunts like Aunt Lydia, belongs to the class of women assigned to coach the Handmaids with the beliefs of Gilead and it is her words that drum the ideology of the new society into the heads of the women. Aunt Lydia says, The Republic of Gilead, knows no bound. Gilead is within you , showing the sense of power the government holds and a characteristic associated with the totalitarianism regime. Offred s response to this is seen at the end of her visit to the Doctor and she says It s the choice that terrifies me. A way out, a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. ITM 580 Core Comp Essay Core Competencies and the Planning and Implementing of Information Technology Abstract With any organization, rather it be civilian or military focused, there is a common element that resides; organizational competencies. These competencies is what makes any organization unique and identifies how they do the things they do, how relationships with institution division and external entities are developed and handled. With Information technology shifting from an administrative support tool to a strategic role within the organization, the question, or debate, is whether or not the planning and implementation of information technology, based on strategic goals, essentially share the same organizational competencies. This article will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I would agree in part, but not wholly. In fact, I agree that Information Technology will be implemented into the organization in such a way that promotes and ensures organizational success of its strategic goals, but I would have to disagree on the order between organizational strategic goals and organizational competencies. With traditional organizational planning, most organizations have each part (department) determine specific programs and projects to support the organizations strategic goals. This is also known as a mix of bottom up and top down planning. The organization creates strategic goals, disseminates it across the organizations departments and has each department design or implement projects and programs to achieve or support the organization with achieving those goals. Instead, if we shifted the level importance from organizational strategic goals to the effective implementation and recognition of organizational competencies, then it is more likely that the organization as a whole will be better aligned across all parts (departments) and each part will more likely identify the appropriate strategic goals. In a report by Cullen Coates and Associates in 2008, Managing Organizational Competencies, they define this as the process of determining how each part of the organization can contribute to each competency will cause all parts of ... Obtain and weigh a sample of potassium hydrogen tartrate; use between 200 and 300 mg. 2. In a boiling water bath, heat a sample of distilled water. 3. Dissolve your sample in a minimum of water. To do this, add the water drop wise to your solid, stirring well between each drop, until the solid just dissolves. You might have to heat the test tube while you are adding the water to keep the solution hot. 4. After getting the solid to dissolve, allow the solution to cool slowly and look for crystals. However, the test tube did show little bit crystals while using the spatula to scratch the tube. Error Analysis: There are few errors in the lab. The grams of cream of tartar might become less because it is hard to scrape the crystals out of the test tube so it will be stuck inside the test tube and some of them is still in the plastic boat dish. During the experiment, the water may have added too much that causing precipitating out. Also, it is may not heat enough the test tube while adding hot water. Exploring the deep sea has captured the imagination of humankind ever since Leonardo da Vinci made drawings of a submarine more than 500 years ago in 1515. Since the early 20th century, people have been venturing into the ocean in submersible vehicles. The duration of these dives is limited by battery life, human endurance, and safety protocols, but they typically do not last more than eight to ten hours, including descent time which is approximately 4 hours for a seafloor depth of 4000 meters (Thorpe, Steele, Turekian). Traditionally, humans have investigated the ocean from ships on its surface. But to really understand what it s like on the seafloor, humans need to be on it. Even so, many aspects of ocean exploration are best left to robots. Remotely operated vehicles, or ROVs, are another popular type of submersibles. They are unmanned vessels controlled by scientists onboard a ship via a tethering cable. On the ship, pilots send commands and power to the ROV. The ROV then sends back data and live video to those on the ship. ROVs typically contain sonar equipment, video cameras, and still cameras. Depending on the research objective, the ROV may also have manipulator arms for collecting samples of rock, sediment, or ocean life to return to scientists (Lewis). Throughout the film, a delusional Donnie encounters a talking rabbit and eventually discovers that he has been living in a parallel universe since his near death experience. To escape this alternate timeline and save his mother and sister who are on the ill fated plane, Donnie realizes that he must be killed by the engine and allows himself to die in the accident. The film has strong themes of time travel and the future, much like Lee Edelman s The Future is Kid Stuff. Through his idea of reproductive futurism, Edelman hypothesizes that the Child is the future and states that everything we do has the ultimate goal of protecting the future. Edelman also believes that queers will not survive in the future because they are unable to reproduce. The film Donnie Darko, directed by Richard Kelly, challenges society s unrealistic expectations of a perfect nuclear family by juxtaposing a queer Donnie with his heteronormative sister Samantha. When considered in the context of Lee Edelman s The Future is Kid Stuff, this stark contrast confirms the theory of reproductive futurism and explains the ending of the movie in which Donnie sacrifices his life so that his sister can survive. This is exactly what students of Utrecht University wanted to answer and how to change it. While this was happening researchers watched the audience s behavior and recorded the times an individual copied the woman s behavior. At the end of the video the participants read a scenario where a woman was rape. After they finished reading they were informed the woman in the scenario is the same as the woman in the video. • 15. Malic Acid Vs Inorganic Acid An organic compound with acidic properties is called an organic acid. An inorganic acid or mineral acid is an acid derived from one or more inorganic compounds. The reason that organic acids are weaker than mineral acids is that organic acids do not separate completely in water, whereas strong mineral acids do separate completely in water. Organic acids do not react with metals. Harsh mineral acids on the other hand react forcefully with metals. Inorganic acids are derived from inorganic compounds and mineral sources, while organic acids have a biological origin. Mineral acids do not contain carbon and organic acids do contain carbon. Uric acid is an example of mineral acids. Uric acid is soluble in water and is a hetero cyclic compound which is composed of the elements: carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and hydrogen. A real world example in which uric acid is used is that uric and ascorbic acid in the human body provide over half of the antioxidant capacity in the bloodstream which means it is very important in our lives. Oxalic acid is another example of an inorganic acid. Oxalic acid is a colorless crystalline solid that dissolves in water and gives a colorless solution. A real world application of oxalic acid is cleaning and bleaching agent, and is very effective in removing rust. Malic acid is a dicarboxylic acid that is made by all living organisms. It has a clean, mellow, smooth, persistent sourness, so it can be used to enhance flavor and blending abilities. It contributes to the sour taste of fruits and can also be used as a food additive. It is used for alcoholic apple ciders to maintain a sharp taste. In wines, the malolactic fermentation improves the flavor of the wine. It is also used in acne creams and moisturizers to remove dead skin cells and remove acne. Citric acid has a sour taste and is greatly present in fruits such as oranges. It is also a popular ingredient in most types of candy, especially in sour candies. It is a weak organic acid and is used as a safe cleaning product. My goal for this class was to learn the process of stained glass, grow in patience, and grow in appreciation for the art. With all of the different aspects, I feel like this goal was met. The first part of the process was cutting the glass. For this, the tools needed was a glass/ball cutter, running pliers, grozing pliers, and (of course) your glass. Using the ball cutter, you make a score on the glass. This should only ever be done once. After that is made, take the pliers to break the glass. The running pliers are used for straight lines What you do is align the cut with the line on the pliers and pinch, and the glass should break. The grozing pliers are used for non straight cuts. For this, you take the pliers in one hand and your hand as the other and go on either side of the score, then break or snap it upwards. Throughout this process I had a good amount of struggles. I first struggled with figuring out how to position my hand, the amount of pressure that I should put on the glass, and the angle to put my hand. Another struggle that I encountered was breaking off the glass that had a curved score. Sometimes the glass wouldn t break, or other times the glass shattered . This mechanism essentially function by first initiation step in which the halogenated molecule splits into two halogenated radicals which is followed by the formation of a hydrocarbon radical. The next step of the radical mechanism, propagation, involves the hydrocarbon molecule reaction with a halogenated molecule, thus producing a hydrocarbon halogen (R X) compound, and more halogenation molecule thus allowing the reaction to continue on to completion. A control mechanism will allow for the prediction of what product will be obtained from a radical reaction. If random chance of the halogen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is once again due the reasoning stated earlier, as in terms of hydrogen reactivity: benzene aromatic ~ aliphatic tertiary secondary primary. This is based on the reasoning in Hammond s Postulates that the more stable radical will have a smaller rate determining step and the transition state will resemble the products more so, thus indicating why it can be considered more stable. The actual order observed was methylcyclohexane ethylbenzene toluene tert butylbenzene ~ cyclohexane. This was not the predicted order as methylcyclohexane should have reacted third fastest instead of reacting first as observed, however, excluding the error of methylcyclohexane the rest of the prediction seem to line up with the observed results. Since methylcyclohexane was the only contributor to the misalignment with the predicted and observed indicates that some sort of error occurred in the process of carrying out the reaction. The source of error is most likely due to the possibility that methylcyclohexane had the bromine added to it a few seconds prior to being set down and timed for a reaction. The reasoning behind this is because methylcyclohexane should react fast, however, should still be slower than ethylbenzne and toluene. Another source of error that was likely a major contributor was the amount of each compound present in the test tube. If too much of the arene was added to the test tube a the reaction time will likely be noticeably slower as there will b more product to brominate. Therefore, it is possible that the methylcyclohexane test tube (#13) had too little of methylcyclohexane in it. The toluene reaction time at 15 seconds also indicates that this test tube possibly had too much toluene placed in it, thus leading to a slower observed reaction time. Therefore, it is unlikely that the initial prediction was wrong due to the reactivity of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are a lot of things that make a submarine work the biggest thing has to be the pressure hull. It is the most important because when the submarine goes below the water there is lots of pressure pushing in on it. Most submarines have two hulls one on the outside that is waterproof and another on the inside that is much stronger and resistant to immense water pressure (Submarines). The maximum depth that submarines ever dive is 2000 feet at that depth the pressure is sixty times greater than greater than at the surface ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Concentration Of MIBK, Ethanol And Water In The Feed And... In this experiment the concentrations of MIBK, ethanol and water in the Feed, Extract and Raffinate streams were determined at Steady State, which would then be used with the equilibrium data provided to calculate the theoretical number of stages required for separation. Once Steady State was achieved, the components water, ethanol and MIBK reached consistent mole percent (mol%) values of 85.48 %, 13.15 % and 1.37 % respectively for the Extract Stream. Conversely, the Raffinate Stream was had water, ethanol and MIBK mol% values of 12.84 %, 4.75 % and 82.41 % respectively. As per the sample calculations in Appendix C, the Karr Reciprocating Plate Column effectively extracted 90.24 % of the ethanol from the Feed stream into the Extract stream. As was expected, the agitation aided in the separation process considering more surface area was made available for interface interaction with smaller droplets. Calculation of the number of equilibrium stages required, had to be done using a Ternary Diagram (Figure 4). Equilibrium data was provided that could be plotted (Table A3); however, an average of the component mol% for the Raffinate, Extract Feed and Solvent streams had to be determined. This required the conversion the experimental data of the normalized volume percent (vol%) in Table A1 into mol% values, so the data points could be plotted on the Ternary Triangular Diagram. Conversion from vol% to mol% was done by through consideration of the components respective density and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Servant Leadership Thompson Samantha, I think that at some time everyone has encouraged or talked with someone else about which path they should follow, whether it should be one of a career, or a vocation. In dealing with those around me, it would depend on their situation, and whether this is a short term goal, as it can be with a certain career, or whether they have the means to follow their own heart as in choosing a vocation. Using these criteria, I would probably do things a little differently, considering what I now understand about servant leadership. Towards the beginning of the book Robert Cohn asks Jake, Don t you ever get the feeling that all your life is going by and you re not taking advantage of it? Do you realize that you ve lived nearly half the time you have to live already? Jake weakly answers, Yes, every once in a while. The book focuses on the dissolution of the post war generation and how they cannot find their place in life. Jake is an example of a person who had the freedom to choose his place but chose poorly. He is in love with Brett Ashley, but she is always with other people, including Robert Cohn, which makes Jake jealous. Jake relates to the other characters only superficially because he only looks at what he can get from them. Jake wants Brett Ashley so that when he gets older he ll have companionship. Jake makes fun of Robert Cohn to make himself look better than he is by putting someone else down. Jake also uses Bill Gorton just to keep himself busy and not get bored. With an unknown author, apocalyptic foreshadowing, and obscure meanings, it has been interpreted a number of different ways. Starting with the history, the symbolism, and ways to interpret it, the aim of this paper is to give the reader a better understanding of the book. We know for a fact that the book was written by John to the seven churches of Asia Minor I, John, your brother and partner in the tribulation and kingdom and patience that are in Jesus, was on the island which is called Patmos, because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. Revelations 1:9 10 There is speculation that John was imprisoned on Patmos for the crime of not worshiping the Roman emperor. It is a popular tradition for many to believe John the apostle to be the author of revelation, however the writer of revelation never claimed to be an apostle. The literary form in this book is called apocalyptic writing. This means that the book is not straight forward in delivering its message. The actual message is concealed in symbols, numbers, and images. It is also considered a prophecy by Catholics. This is stated in Revelation 1:3. Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep the things that are written therein; for the time is at hand. As the new bank grew and expanded, so did the wealth and power of the Medici family. When Cosimo il Vecchio de Medici, Giovanni s son, took over the banking business in 1434, the increasing economic power of the Medici family allowed them to establish themselves as effective rulers of Florence while keeping the republican system of government nominally intact. The political advantages of the bank also permitted the Medici family to maintain their control over Renaissance Florence. On an international level, the bank provided the Medici family a degree of favourable contact with the Pope and other Renaissance princes. As historian Gene Brucker explains, This [system of] personal diplomacy was most likely to succeed when it was reinforced by mutual interests; Medici loans to Francesco Sforza [the ruler of Milan] were repaid when the latter sent troops to Florence to thwart a revolutionary movement. Milan was not the only state to trade the Medici political favours for bank loans. Economic historian Raymond de Roover, the author of the most comprehensive economic studies of the collapse of the Medici bank, also notes that male relatives of the Pope s bankers (the Medici) received preferential treatment upon entering the holy orders, and were rapidly made bishops, cardinals, and in some cases, popes. Yes, I m aware that was 5 months ago, but it s honestly taken me this long to decide whether I love or hate it. My family, including my 8yo and my 7yo, really enjoys playing Settlers of Catan, so when I found out there was a version based on the building of the transcontinental railroad in the United States, my little homeschooling heart just about burst. The game, Catan Histories: Trails to Rails, is around the $50 mark, so I hesitated... a lot. I finally caved over the holidays because... learning and Catan and awesomeness awaited us if I could just fork over the cash. SPECS: The box says this game is for ages 12+, 3 4 players, and that the game takes about 2 hours. In comparison, the original Settlers of Catan game says it s for players ages 10+, 3 4 players (but you can buy expansions for more players), and that the game takes about an hour. REALITY: We ve played the original game with my younger kids without issue. The concepts are not too hard for them to understand, but I ve never met a Catan game that only lasted an hour. Ever. It usually takes us 2 3 hours, even when it s all adults playing and no kids. Basically, I don t believe a word on the box. Process management creates processes, and implements multitasking by switching the active process on the processor. At the lowest level, the kernel contains a hardware device driver for each kind of hardware it supports. Since the world is full of different kinds of hardware, the number of hardware device drivers is large. There are often many otherwise similar pieces of hardware that differ in how they are controlled by software. The similarities make it possible to have general classes of drivers that support similar operations; each member of the class has the same interface to the rest of the kernel but differs in what it needs to do to implement them. For example, all disk drivers look alike to the rest of the kernel, i.e., they all have operations like `initialize the drive , `read sector N , and `write sector N . Some software services provided by the kernel itself have similar properties, and can therefore be abstracted into classes. For example, the various network protocols have been abstracted into one programming interface, the BSD socket library. Another example is the virtual filesystem (VFS) layer that abstracts the filesystem operations away from their implementation. Each filesystem type provides an implementation of each filesystem operation. When some entity tries to use a filesystem, the request goes via the VFS, which routes the request to the proper filesystem driver. 3. Linux Distributions 1.Debian : Debian official ... Israeli Palestinian conflict could be described as a clash that between Israelis and Palestinian Arabs as they attempted to compete the same piece of land briefly (Dowty 2008:1, 4). The reasons that prevent a solution to the Israeli Palestinian problem will be discussed and will be divided into three parts, Israeli reasons, Palestinian reasons and the common problem between two countries. In terms of Palestinian reasons, there are three reasons, the United Nation General Assembly (UNGA) Resolution 181, consequence that Israel was established in 1948 and settlement policy is enforced in Palestinian territory by Israel. For the UNGA Resolution 181, Israeli occupied more territory than Palestinians. In 1947, two state solution was passed in UNGA, Palestine was divided into two states, one for Jewish and one for Arab (El Hasan 2010: 55). However, Arabs occupied 43 45.5% of land in Palestine even the population of Arabs in Palestine was 2/3 (Soderblom 2003). This was unfair to them. Besides, Jews claim that they have sovereignty on Palestine as their ancestor have moved to Palestine and they maintain there is a tie between Jews and Palestine for more than 3,700 years, so it is their historic homeland (Gans 2008: 101; Brown 2011: 139). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The high evenness is due to fewer species being present at this site. The results of this lab supported my hypothesis that the water s edge would have the highest biodiversity, the wooded area would have medium biodiversity, and the manicured lawn would have the lowest biodiversity. The reason that the results support my hypothesis is that the water s edge had a diverse vegetation around it for a variety of species to be found. It also had the pond where species could be found. The wooded area contained many layers of leave coverage which is good for some species but bad for others. The wooded area is also subject to runoff which reduced the number of small species that could be found on the ground.
