I have been seeing three new patients recently, all Romantic poets who appear to be suffering
from various levels of melancholy. Although each one of these poets is highly successful and
influential in the Romantic Movement, each has experienced bouts of dejection, loneliness, and
disillusionment with reality. However, this melancholy seems different from cases I have
encountered in the past. Strangely, none of these clients show symptoms of the excessive black
bile that typically associated with melancholy such as apathy, lack of motivation, and
hopelessness (Brady, Haapala). In fact, while all of these clients experience melancholic
thoughts, these emotions appear to be more complex than depression as they allow the
pleasures of deep reflection and often lead to feelings of sublime joy and inspiration. Instead of
suffering from a clinical form of melancholy or depression, these clients appear to be
experiencing a complex emotion of joypain which they believe has the capacity to reveal the
infinite powers of the self or the imagination (Murray, 722). Yet, while all of these poets seem to

This report will discuss the cultural values of Bangladesh. The main purpose is putting the Geert
Hofstede s dimensions of culture into practice. The researcher chose Bangladesh due to the
following reason. Recently, I have worked with the Red Cross refugee program. We have a
volunteer who used to be a refugee from Bangladesh. After a difficult time setting up her life,
Habiba, now, enjoys her life in NZ and would like to help other refugees. Her story inspired me to
do the study about Bangladesh culture.
Discussion and Analysis
The five cultural dimensions of Bangladesh will be discussed in this report. Each dimension
includes three questions. The researcher recorded the answers of the volunteer and analysed them
in order to evaluate the cultural values of Bangladesh. These results are compared with Hofstede s
theory to have a true and fair view about this culture.
1.Individualism vs Collectivism
This dimension determines the culture in the term of I or we . Individualism prefers to the society
in which individuals only take care of themselves and their immediate family. In contrast,
collectivism prefers to the the society in which people integrate and share good relationships in
groups, and expect the unquestioning loyalty. (Hofstede, 1991). The three questions related to this
dimension are:

All African Americans have been portrayed in stereotypical roles since their arrival into American
society for the entertainment and amusement of others. Many people find it difficult to appreciate
the diversity of the African American women. So instead of trying to do this, they create identities
based on negative stereotypes. There are several negative stereotypes associated with the African

Mammy is also seen as a very loyal and faithful woman to the one she cares for, but still not
respected.
Like the traditional mammy figure, the modern day mammy is almost always large, asexual, and
wise. One factor that might separate the modern day mammy from the traditional mammy is that
the modern day mammy seems to have a little more attitude or sass. She also comes in many
different skin tones, but still not light skin.
Mabel Madea Simmons is a fictional character created and played by Tyler Perryhimself. The
character is a tough elderly black woman. Madea gets even, mostly in a bad way. Madea is also
highly overreactive. She is seen willingly threatening the use of deadly weapons, destroying
property, using physical violence, and she loves to take on the law. Because of her overreactive
ways, Madea has repeatedly landed herself in court, anger management classes, house arrest, and
even prison.
Despite some of the negative traits that she does possess, Madea does exhibit the traits of the
Mammy such as: being a nurturer, a caregiver, and a protector, while also maintaining the basic
appearance of a Mammy. Historically, Mammy was shown to have extreme loyalty to the white
family that she cared for and showed devotion towards them while not showing a lot of attention
