Disadvantages Of Antipsychotics
Antipsychotics can be highly effective in the treatment of schizophrenia a psychiatric disorder. The
development of any new therapeutic moiety is very time consuming and requires huge resources.
As the molecule is new to the market, small market capture leads to the initial sufferings and
compromises for the cost to benefit ratio. This article gives the information about the patents of

older drugs (often called conventional or typical antipsychotics) and newer ones are atypicals.

also block the 5HT2A serotonin receptors which allows dopamine release in dorsal striatum region
resulting in no extrapyramidal side effects (EPS). Hence atypical antipsychotics are superior over
typicals. Nowadays majority of the atypical antipsychotics are used due to its benefits. The atypical
antipsychotics include quetiapine (Seroquel, AstraZeneca), olanzapine (Zyprexa, Eli Lilly),
ziprasidone (Geodon, Pfizer), Clozapine (Clozaril, Novartis), aripiprazole (Abilify, Bristol Myers

Comparing Bradstreet, Edward Taylor, And Jonathan Edwards
Puritans believed in hard work and pleasing God. Therefore in this essay I will be comparing and
contrasting three Puritan writings that were written by Anne Bradstreet, Edward Taylor, and
Jonathan Edwards. Their writings express perspectives of Puritan beliefs, however the differences
in the writings show the variations between the purpose of their writings, the language, and the
tone. In this essay I will first look at Bradstreet s poem, second I ll review Taylor s poem, third I
will analyze Edward s sermon, and finally I will state the similarities between the three.
Bradstreet wrote her poems for the sole purpose to pass time, and she had no intention to have
them published. Her poems also differ from the other two author s writings because her poems
were stolen and published by her brother in law without her consent. Her writing style is different
form the other two because she uses an inversed writing style. For example instead of saying I was
wakened with a thund ring noise, she says I wakened ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He wrote the sermon as part of the Great Awakening to scare people to come back to the Church
and Religion. His writing style and language was different in the fact that he used repetition to
emphasize things like sinners who are in the hand of an angry God and the burning for eternity
in the fiery pits of Hell. The sermon contained a lot more dark and menacing language, for
instance he used words like, wrath, Hell, fire, and misery. Edwards s sermon had a tone that was
intimidating but in the last little paragraph he gave people a little bit of hope that they could still
be saved from the fiery pits of Hell. The sermon provided insight of the Great Awakening that was
happening at that time period. It showed one of the tactics to draw people back to the church and
away from science. Finally, I will compare the similarities of all three

Identify and evaluate sources of debt financing
A company s debt, liabilities and risk are very important factors in understanding the company.
Boeing Company s total debt has increased over the past five years. The company reported a five
year low of $7.512 billion in 2008 and a five year high in 2009 at $12.924 billion. The company s

The Rates Of Teen Pregnancy Essay
INTRODUCTION Throughout the United States, rates of teen pregnancy are significantly
high. In 2013, there were 26.5 births for every 1,000 adolescent females ages 15 19, or 273,105
babies born to females in this age group.1 Young, minority women between the ages of 15 and 24
appear to be at greater risk for becoming pregnant. Minority populations are also linked with low
socioeconomic status, whether in terms of education or income, or both. Having low income and
lower levels of education (the most commonly used measures of SES) were also associated with
increased risk for unintended pregnancies, with 62% of pregnancies being unintended among
those earning 200% of the FPL.2 In addition, with minority populations growing rapidly, many of
these young women and their families live in smaller, more rural areas. According to one study, in
rural and small town areas the Hispanic population increased by 1.9 million or 46 percent between
2000 and 2010.3 In rural areas there is often limited access to nearby health care facilities. With
income, education and living inadequacies, these young women face complications with
availability and ready access to contraception, and are therefore less likely to practice effective
utilization of contraceptives. There is evidence that minority and low SES women are less likely to
use contraception overall, use different contraceptive methods, and have higher rates of
contraceptive failure than white and higher SES women.2 Cultural beliefs and

Reflection On Behavior Intervention
Reflection
I do not feel that I have sufficient data to make an informed decision on the effectiveness of this
intervention for Adam. However, I would conclude that my attempt at a behavior intervention was
unsuccessful. This was due to a variety of reasons. The foremost reason being to inconsistent
application of the intervention. At times, weeks passed between trials. As we have learned,
intervention is successful when it is implemented regularly.
It was unwise to set my intervention monitoring in an environment which I have no control over
and for a small window of time, for a specific type of instruction. Instruction is not given at a set
period of time, as I had thought when collecting my baseline data. Adam s general education
teacher often has them do individual work, then moves to whole group instruction, at which point I
need to leave. Furthermore, there are a great deal of holidays during autumn, so students were often
participating in the arts, rather than math. These issues could have potentially been avoided if I had
spoken to his general education teacher about her schedule, but I did not. Further consultation could
have helped this project to be successful.
The token board may have not been the most appropriate intervention for what I was doing. I
chose this intervention because both Adam and I are familiar with it. Further, I had planned to
increase the duration overtime. My plan was, for the first week or two, I would have my student

Magazine Advertisements And Gender Stereotypes

As soon as we open our eyes, we are bombarded with advertisements. Just walking down the street,
you will see many different types of advertisements. One particularly effective advertisements is
magazine advertisements. This way, business can advertise to their target audience as their possible

Cosmopolitan Magazine. This particular advertisement has come from Vogue, a very high classy

denotations of this advertisement is that this advertisement is telling people to renew themselves if
they are not happy with there old self. The connotations behind this advertisement is that society
wants people to buy new and expensive things to become a better person, to reinvent themselves .
That people need to be buying expensive products, as this advertisement suggests, jewellery, to feel

Essay on An Exploration of Vegetarianism
I.Thesis Definition
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the trend of vegetarianism and its steady increase in
popularity in the United States, the possible causes behind the existence of this trend, its effects on
our general society and the practicing population, and finally, the future of vegetarianism. For the
purpose of this paper vegetarianism is described as a plant based diet (fruits, vegetables, etc), though
the most important factor being the total exclusion of meat, not including fish for most practitioners.
While numerous sub levels of this lifestyle exist, including veganism (abstaining from the use of all
animal products) and semi vegetarianism (a person cutting back on meat intake), this study will
focus mainly on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1992, as the medical evidence supporting this lifestyle skyrocketed, the American Dietetic
Association officially endorsed vegetarianism, thus solidifying a prominent argument for the
credibility of the vegetarian diet. From the 1990s to present day, the amount of practitioners has
markedly increased, and appears to be continually growing at a steady rate. According to a 2008
study conducted by the Harris Interactive Service Bureau on behalf of Vegetarian Times magazine,
roughly 3.2 percent of U.S. adults, or 7.3 million people, follow a vegetarian based diet. In
addition, 22.8 million Americans maintain to follow a vegetarian inclined diet, while 11.9 million
are definitely interested in becoming a vegetarian in the future ( Vegetarianism ). While no concrete
evidence of a current rise yet exists, researchers speculate that, because of new environmental and
health concerns, more people are, and will be, turning to vegetarianism to assist these issues
(Rohrer).
III.Causes of Vegetarianism
Environment
Environmental vegetarianism centers on the ever increasing alarm that mass production of meat
and animal products, particularly through factory farming, is environmentally unsustainable. As
reported by a 2006 United Nations initiative, the livestock industry is ...one of the largest
contributors to environmental degradation worldwide, and modern practices of raising animals for

Comparing Asexual Vs. Response To Environment
What is life? A question that sounds simple, but in reality is more complex and could be answered
in multiple ways. The focus of this will be comparing asexual versus sexual reproduction. Also, the
evolution and adaptation versus response to environment. And lastly, but not any less important is
homeostasis. Sexual versus asexual reproductionboth have benefits and disadvantages. Asexual is
the development of a new organism forming from one parent. When an asexual organism has an
offspring their offspring has the same exact genetic material. If the parent were to have a disease
the child would automatically get the disease in their lifetime. An sexual organism has to mate to
form and offspring. Usually an sexual organism has to be a maleand female together to produce. To
produce a new organism the egg and sperm have to meet. The genetic material would be mixed
when the organism is sexual and not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Evolution is the concept that one organism can grow into an adult and develop skills in their
environment. Adaptation is a feature that is common in a population. Adaptation can take in
different forms. Behavior of predators or temperatures that functions best. The form of an organism
has to adapt to a new lifestyle changing the way the may have been fated to evolve into. Both
adaptation and evolution have in common our an organism that grows mentally and physically or
the environment the species is in.
Homeostasis means in greek same and steady. Homeostasis a habit to want be stable equilibrium
of an organism. Homeostasis is needed for survival of all living organisms. For example humans
need to stay a temperature around 98 to keep the body temperature in this area it needs homeostasis
to stay stable. Sometimes the body is not stable for instance when the body runs a fever or gets the
chills. Without homeostasis bodies would not be able to function properly and neither would other

Benedict Arnold was a Revolutionary Hero that had a big affect on winning the war. He had
boosted many of the soldiers moral during the war with his successful raids. Moral could be
considered a reason for the Americans winning the war because it kept them going through there
up and downs. To begin my essay, I ll start it with a brief summary on Arnold, so the reader will
understand who he really was. Benedict Arnold was born on January 14,1741 in Norwich,
Connecticut. His ancestors William Arnold and his family who left England because of religious
persecution were the first Arnold s in New England. Arnold s family background was well

Arnold was a brilliant leader in the continental army, leading to many victories for the United
States. His uncommon bravery had really showed a great impression on all the soldiers,
boosting their morals even more. Arnold dedicated himself to the Revolutionary cause,
sacrificing family life, health, and financial well being for a conflict that left him physically
crippled, sullied by false accusations, and profoundly alienated from the American cause of
liberty. Arnold can be considered one of the best American Generals during the fight for
independence. He was very well known for that and respected. Though congress would never
give him his deserved promotions. Now as we learn about Arnold, we are never taught of what he
did but instead of his treasury. Arnold really didn t turn on his country but the country had turned
on him for not noticing his great achievements for the fight for independence. The only honor that
was rewarded to Arnold was the Boot monument where he had fought the Battle of Saratoga. He
wasn t rewarded for his great accomplishment but just rewarded for a wounded leg. Congress
though had never motivated Arnold and always picked on him. Arnold was simple; he was a man
with great honor who fought for independence and to keep his family name respected. Arnolds
father was arrested for over drinking according to Jim Murphy, and his family name had lost much
respect. So Arnold a confident, and strong man devoted his life to gain much of

Spanish American War 98 Analysis
In 1898, the United States intervened in a conflict in which Cuba was attempting to gain
independence from Spain. The United States interposed their selves after a Naval ship, the USS
Maine, was destroyed. The journalism at the time, yellow journalism to be specific, blamed Spain
for the sinking of the battleship, and so the United Statesdecided to step in. John Lukacs, an
American Hungarian author, wrote The Meaning of 98 as an examination of the crucial parts of
and leading up to The Spanish American War. In this article, Lukacs states the events in 1898 that
America inserted themselves in and, set in motion the first American Century.

most intellectual minds arrived close after the war (Lukacs 5). To rebuttal the blessing in disguise ,
the war tore apart Spain. America was nice to them, but that is after the war and after they won.
Once a team wins, they can be nice all they want. But during the battle they fought hard (not that
they needed to). Although, after the war, Spain went nowhere but up. That was not a blessing in
disguise , thats called hitting an all time low. Once Spain hit rock bottom, they had nowhere to go
but up. So it seems as if the war helped Spain, but instead just put a different perspective on
improving the country. After the war, the United States decided not to combine with Cuba, but they
did, however, add Hawaii as the fifteenth state (Lukacs

The Green Berets And Apocalypse Now
This paper will be discussing the two movies The Green Berets (1968) and Apocalypse Now
(1978), and argue how The Green Berets is a propagandist pro war film depicting the unrealities
of the Vietnam War while Apocalypse Now is an ambiguous anti war film that shows the social
and political absurdities of the Vietnam War. The Green Berets is would be classified as a pro
war film depicted in favor of the American troops. The Green Berets, contrasts the harshness and
brutality of the Vietcong with the generosity and inherently good nature of the Americans in
treatment od child, women and men. On the other hand, Apocalypse Now may be categorized as
both a pro war movie and an anti war movie because the film both reveals and conceals political
and national ambivalence towards the Vietnam War. Therefore this film is not overtly antiwar, but
it takes pains to reveal the atrocities of a war fought by America in the name of democracy and
freedom. For example, in the air strike, sampan, and bridge scenes, the film clearly depicts the death
and destruction that result directly from U.S. involvement; instead of helping innocent civilians,
American troops kill them. They are strangers in a strange land, yet they act as if they own it,
staking out territory and firing without provocation. Also, while the Vietnamese are fighting for
their homes, American troops are fighting to go home and home, to them, is a combination of
surfing, Playboy Playmates, and psychedelic rock. These values are

Compare And Contrast Dido And Aeneas
After viewing the two operas, it is clear that there are many differences and similarities between
the two performances. One of the biggest differences I noticed right away was the opera scenery
that each of the shows had. L Orfeo, written by Claudio Monteverdi had a much more theatrical
vibe with elaborate scenery, props, and costumes used by the performers. The backdrop changed
colors and had scenery images to help with representing the setting and time of day throughout
the performance. Many props were used by all roles of the cast. The costumes were more
elaborate and detailed compared to that of Dido and Aeneas, written by Henry Purcell. The
costumes for L Orfeo were geared to fitting into the Greek Mythology period since the opera...

In Dido and Aeneas, Dido, a widowed queen, expresses her love for Aeneas, a Trojan hero. He
reciprocates the feelings but is destined to sail away to become the founder of Rome. The opera
results in her committing suicide because of this. Both plots do encompass similar topics such as
love and death. Since both operas were written in the Baroque period they do share that similarity
and characteristics in the music style of that period. Italy was highly influential in the operas style
because it was the birthplace of opera. Baroque operas were generally based on Greek legends or
Roman history which fits in with the plots of the two operas.
There are similarities between the two performances orchestras also. Both orchestras contained
chordal instruments and bass instruments. An example for bass instruments that both shows had
was a cello, and for chordal instruments, both performances had violins along with other
instruments as well. The leads in the performances followed the typical voice type for their
characters. For example, the female leads were sopranos, which is the highest female voice
type. In L Orfeo the female lead was Eurydice, and in Dido and Aeneas, the female leads were Dido
and Belinda, all of which were soprano s. The male leads were tenors in both performances to
represent their role as the male star. In L Orfeo, Orfeo and Apollo were both tenors, and Aeneas

Common American Western Film
There was once a film genre that dominated the silver screens for over 30 years. That genre is the
western, a genre that saw its golden age from the 1930 s to the 1960 s with classics like Sergio
Leone s Dollars trilogy (1964 1966), Once Upon a Time in the West (1968), and John Ford s The
Searchers (1956), though with such films like James Mangold s 3:10 to Yuma (2007) and David
Mackenzie s Hell or High, westerns in the modern stay still have an audience. Films in this genre
usually take place during the last part of the 19th century not too long after the Civil War, but there
are exceptions to this as some films have taken place during the Civil War itself, the Battle of the
Alamo (1836) or the Mexican Revolution (1910) (Filmsites.org). Common... Show more content on

Usually, the central plot of the western film is the classic, simple goal of maintaining law and order
on the frontier in a fast paced action story. It is normally rooted in archetypal conflict good vs. bad,
virtue vs. evil, white hat vs. black hat, man vs. man, new arrivals vs. Native Americans (in those
days were depicted as savages), settlers vs. Indians, lawman or sheriff vs. gunslinger, the rugged
individualist vs. the community, the cultivated East vs. West to name a few. Often the hero of a
western meets his opposite double, a mirror of his own evil side that he must destroy. Typical
elements in westerns include hostile elements (often Native Americans), guns and gun fights
(sometimes on horseback), violence and human massacres, horses, trains (and train robberies), bank
robberies and holdups, runaway stagecoaches, shoot outs and showdowns, outlaws and sheriffs,

Macbeth And Lady Macbeth
In Shakespearian times the woman had no powerful roles, they did not write or act in plays. The
roles were strictly played by men. Only men could have a high positioned job, and could hunt and
other masculine things. This was true, however, in Macbeth written by William Shakespeare he
portrays that both the men and the women in the play craved and have powerful roles, and desire
ambition. Additionally, he shows how the roles of genderare flipped between Macbethand Lady
Macbeth, and displays that Lady Macbeth wants control over Macbeth. In the play Lady
Macbeth stands in for Macbeth s manliness throughout the text, and she was the brain of all his
decisions. She desired to manipulate his decisions so it would work out in her favor, so she
could have a higher position as queen. Although A Strange Infirmary authored by Jenijoy La
belle asserts that the actions of a women in that time period were not looked at as manly actions,
and women were incapable to have such manly cravings due to their physical setbacks
characteristics, and in The Five Tragedies in Macbeth written by Miguel Bernad, he states that
the roles of gender flip and the characteristics of each gender can be in either characters, and he
shows the intense grip of Lady Macbeth s power over her husband. With these sources you can
see, manly qualities and strive for power is not something that is held only within a physical man.
Sex does not play a role for hunger for ambition. However, in these times women

Shirley Jackson s The Lottery
Typically, when one hears the word lottery, they think about someone winning a desirable prize.
Unfortunately, this is not the case in a small American town that Shirley Jackson introduces us
to in her novel, The Lottery . In this novel, readers get to know a patriarch community that takes
part in an unusual annual tradition. In this tradition, the town gathers to play a game. The head
of each family in the town draws a slip from a black box. One of the slips in the black box contains
a black dot. This game is the town s form of a lottery; who ever draws the dotted slip will be
stoned to death by the other town members. The story starts off serene and idyllic but by the end
readers witness a murder. Shirley Jacksons, The Lottery, shows how people often hold on to
traditions even when they are barbaric and have lost their meaning. She does this by showing
readers that members of the society will hold on to inhumane practices simply because the practice
is considered tradition. In this exploration of this towns traditional lottery , Jackson leads the
reader down a savage story line. Jackson is able to draw on the ethnic appeal by focusing on the
very moment of the stoning. After the stoning, the reader is able to look back and see several
details they might have missed or overlooked. The tradition has taken control of the community
members.
Over time the lottery as lost many of its aspects and people have forgotten how it was originally
done and has turned into

Adults are motivated entirely different in the way they learn. Adults are motivated to learn for

Providing renewed hope in the face of adversities and depressing events that may otherwise cause
individuals to descend into the negative behavior. Brookfield (2005) addressed the third aspect of
adult learning as transformative. Adult learners are exposed to learning in the workplace. Within
the workplace, adult workers learn to be critical in analyzing their assumptions regarding the
structure business model before reaching a decision that may affect a company s performance.
They view this in conjunction with market realities before arriving at decision that may make or
break the company. For society in general, this suggest that lifelong learning is obtained as the
main strategy in ensuring the future abundance of countries such as the UK since it ensures its
vision to build a new culture of learning (Boshier, 2006, p.11). This new culture of learning can
involve online learning which is very useful in the adult learning process. It is important to help
students become technically savvy in our classrooms. What people know about online learners may
not be properly addressed through one s teaching so that educators need to collaborate so that they
can share contemporary researches on the subject (Martinez, 2010, p. 353). In Conclusion,

Week 9 Tutorial: Ethics of Consumption (Assessed)
Readings:
Shaw et. al. (2013), Chapter 5: The Morality and Ethics of Consumption. Textbook Reading: Why
Do We Consume So Much, by Juliet Schor, pp.258 66.

(ignore questions 2 and 6).
Q1. Who is the we in the question Why do we consume so much? Is Juliet Schor correct that there is
increasingly little that we do which is not a consumption experience ? And that we have become a
culture of excessive consumption? Explain your answers.

the more or luxury goods they are able to purchase.
I do not agree that working long hours encourages people to consume more. I have some

money does not come easily, so I would not buy as much as I earned. I would like to save it and
buy wait until I think the price of the good I want to buy is acceptable and it is useful.
Q4. Schor refers to the second structural feature that creates too much consumption as the
ecological bias . What does she mean by this? Do you agree with her that it is serious?
Schor means that people overuse of the ecological resources of the earth, which account for
global warming, species extinction, ecosystem depletion, water shortages, deforestation and soil
erosion. I absolutely agree with her that overuse of natural capital is serious because the rate of
resource use, pollution, and ecological degradation exceeds earth s absorptive and regenerative
capacities. We are already beyond a sustainable relation with earth. If rest of the world lived like
the Americans do, need an additional four planets to support this lifestyle.
Q5. Explain why you agree or disagree with Schor s contention that consumption has become a
social competition. How has the old

Project Idea Of A Home Automation System
Once being told by the course leader to research on three initial ideas for the group project and
discuss this with the group which was chosen by students, a main project idea was researched
which all members of the group agreed on.
As a group of five students doing Electrical Electronic Engineering, a project had to be thought of
which was specific to the degree that was being studied. After much deliberation, the idea of a home
automation system was agreed upon by the course leader Dr John Barker. After consulting with the
course leader, it was learnt that the group had to complete one function within the household each

As a second year BEng Electronic and Electrical Engineering student a project had to be devised
which would consist of Electrical Engineering concepts and not Mechanical Engineering. This
would have to be completed at the University Centre at Blackburn College. Groups were made so
that tasks could be carried out by each member.
Several project ideas were then made by each group member. The ideas which were thought of
by myself included a hybrid solar and wind battery charger, a parking sensor and also remote
control blinds (Appendix A). Research had to be carried out on each project idea to see if it
would be beneficial for the group to construct the project. After much consideration and setting up
multiple meetings with the group, a decision was made that the best option would be go ahead
with a home automation system which would run over the internet and Wi Fi. Several factors
were vital in choosing why this project was chosen ahead of other ideas. The project had to be
something which had not been chosen previously or chosen by another group. Costing, limited
amount of knowledge on tasks which needed to be completed, and the time availability which was
given over the course of the year were reasons as to why other project ideas were not chosen and
why the home automation suggestion was selected. 2.1The home automation system

Residential Garage Door Materials
Garage doors not only protect your cars and other belongings from the elements, they add style

Here are four different residential garage door materials to consider:
Steel: This material is the most popular option for garage doors. Steel doors are affordable, low

door. There are many different styles, and some offer windows and unique designs. Wood doors
have better insulation than other materials, like steel, but need more maintenance. If you choose
this option, it may increase the curb appeal of your home, but be prepared to spend more time

Wood Composite: For those who want a residential garage door made of wood but don t want to

wood fibers, wood composite doors are stronger, like steel, and you can stain or paint them. This

The Journey Of Independence And Independence
The Journey to Independence It was 11:54 PM, six minutes before my birthday was officially

which ended up alienating me. My friends and I were still on good terms, but the tension between
us grew as our definition of fun changed. By the time Christmas break had rolled around, I was
ready to take a break from school and celebrate the holidays, which included my birthday, with my
friends and family. Unbeknownst to me, my fifteenth birthday would be one to remember in the

Symbolic Interactionism, Functional Analysis, And Conflict...
Modern sociology is characterized by three main theoretical approaches: symbolic interactionism,
functional analysis, and conflict theory. Personally, I believe that symbolic interactionism is the
most logically viable approach to understanding modern society due to its understanding of the
meaning people ascribe to everyday concepts. As a theory, functionalism fails to mention those
who either deviate from the whole or work against society. Concerning Marx s conflict theory, for
now, the time of competing for scarcities has ebbed; there are other, more pressing factors driving
society today such as family and an individual s aspirations. Nevertheless, symbolic interactionism
is not without its faults; the very fact that symbols differ in meaning... Show more content on

Thus, symbolic interactionism can t fully explain an individual s actions because they aren t

symbolism can be harmful to society. Consider the difference of respect given to a businessman
in a suit versus a homeless veteran with a drug addiction; the symbols of wealth and poverty play
a notable roll in the way humanity treats each other. Lastly, symbols change over time. A perfect

The History of Track and Field Essay
Track and Field events, also known as athletics, have progressed a great deal since their birth in
Olympus, around the ninth century B.C. More athletes and more nationalities compete in Track
and Field than in any other Olympic sport. Athletics is one of the largest attractions at the Modern
Olympics, drawing in huge crowds of spectators and creating interest at summer Olympics. Track
and Field events have come a long way since the Ancient Greek Olympic games. Many events and
techniques have been revised, added, or eliminated since the original Greek Olympics. The Olympic
motto, Citius, Altius, Fortius is describing the Track and Field events in Latin. The Latin means

In the data, which is available from that period, it has been shown that the number of footraces
was no more than six or seven per Olympic Games. This has changed greatly in the modern
Olympics. The winner of these Ancient Olympic races would be rewarded with an olive branch
crown. Another type of footrace, called the hoplite, was introduced rather late in the history of the
Ancient Olympics. The race was of about two stades undertaken while wearing battle armor
composed of round shields and plumed helmets. Racing over hurdles was not at all part of the
Greeks knowledge during the Ancient Olympics. It was established later in the modern Olympic
trials.
Another Track and Field event is the long jump. This event differed very greatly from the jumping
we see today. The jumpers would have a running start and be holding weights in their hands for
momentum purposes. The use of the weights, which were swung about during the run and jump,
caused the jumper to have a much larger distance than the athletes of the modern Olympics. In fact,
the ancient jumping events are highly controversial because of the ludicrous records found about
the distance of the jumps in ancient Greece. One record states that a contestant jumped 55 feet.
The modern record for the running long jump is near 30 feet and it seems to many track and field
experts that it would be quite impossible for anyone to jump 55 feet, even with the help of an
impetus. Some

The Concept Of Leadership And Leadership
Thought Item 2 (Option 1)
In today s society the concept of leadership provides a structure for decisions to be made within
teams, organizations, and businesses. The notion that only leaders should be credited for the
success or failure carried out by their teams has been instilled in our minds since we first
understood the concept of hierarchies. The fact that most business schools even posses a required
leadership course proves the significance of this concept within today s society. While it is
astounding how essential the idea of leadership has become, it is important for us to begin looking

The amount of work that the head of a team puts into a project is quite small compared to the total
amount of work applied by everyone associated with the completion of the task. When defining
the significance of roles within organizations, it is important to factor in the composition of the
culture as a whole. Many people credit the creation of an organization s culture to the head of
the organization. While this single leader may define how they envision the culture to be, the
members as a whole truly develop the culture. This insight allows us to shift our focus from the
leader to the followers. As a society, by accepting the fact that followers are our true leaders, we
are bound to endure many positive and negative consequences resulting from the
implementation. Followers will likely feel more empowered to make more decisions because
they will be receiving more recognition for their work. This increase in empowerment will
cause followers to be more productive within their roles, which will lead to a harder working
society as a whole as more and more organizational structures follow suit. Another positive aspect
of following this new approach is that we will steer away from the great amount of negative
consequences created by single leaders due to the current composition of leadership. For
businesses, less money will be allocated towards executives because they will no longer make as
much money solely off of their title within

As the pitcher pitches the softball the ball continues on the path until the batter hit the ball, thus
changing the direction and speed (Bauer Westfall, 2010). The key to getting a good hit is hitting
the ball on the sweet spot of the bat. The sweet spot is where there is the minimal vibration from
the contact with the ball. This maximizing the energy transferred and the distance the ball will
travel. The sweet spot is located about 17 centimeters from the end of the barrel (Bauer Westfall,
2010). The batter will be able to tell when the ball has hit the sweet spot on the bat because the
batters hands will not sting. To analysis the physics of hitting a softball a person can use an
equation and a free body force diagram (see Appendix A for free body force diagram). A uniform
slender rod, pivoted at the end, represents the bat. FPx is the x factor of the force exerted on the
slender rod by the fixed pivot P. P represents the hands of the batter holding the bat and P is
expected to be a frictionless pivot. FPy is the y factor of the force applied on the slender rod by the
fixed pivot P. G is the center of massof the slender rod. F is the force utilized on the bat by the ball
when it strikes. L is the length of the slender rod. lF is the distance from the point P to the contact
point F. lG is the distance from the point P to the center of mass G. W is the angular velocity of

The Theory Of Reasoned Action
Following this, (2) The Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA) was developed by both Martin
Fishbein and Icek Ajzen, and it is one of the three classic persuasion models of psychology, and is
also used in communication discourse as a theory of understanding persuasive messages. It explains
the relationship between attitudes and behaviors with human action. This theory is also used to
predict how people will behave based on his/hers pre existing attitudes and behavioral intentions.
The decision to engage in a particular behavioris based on the outcomes the individual expects will
come as a result of performing the behavior. Behavioral intent is allegedly created or caused by two
main factors, which include our attitudes and our subjective norms. Some key constructs for this
theory include; attitude toward the behavior (outcome expectations and value of outcome
expectations), subjective norms (beliefs of others, and desire to comply with others). Last, we have
the (3) Theory of Planned Behavior. The Theory of Planned Behavior, also known as (TPB), is a
concept proposed by Icek Ajzen that link beliefs and behavior. It was added to the Theory of
Reasoned action to address the inadequacies of the existing model. It is one of the most influential
and popular conceptual frameworks for the study of human actions. This theory proposes a model,
which can measure how human actions are guided and details the determinants of an individual s
decision to enact a particular behavior. Attitudes,

Taking a Look at Amphotecering B (AmB)
Amphotericin B (AmB), a polyene macrolide antibiotic, is highly effective against various
Leishmania species and is currently recommended as first line treatment for the visceral form (Dea
Ayuela et al., 2004). Amphoteric nature of AmB contributed by its hydrophobic (the polyene
hydrocarbon chain) and hydrophilic (the polyhydroxyl chain) domains, is responsible for poor
aqueous and organic solubility, and intercalation into cell membranes to elicit drug s
pharmacological effects (Milhaud et al., 2002). To sort out insolubility and non absorbability
problems conventional AmB formulation FungizoneВ® (a complex with bile salt deoxycholate)
is available. However, toxic side effects, in particular, hemotoxicity and azotemia which occurs in
around 80% cases and renal tubular damage at therapeutic doses have often limited its clinical
applications (Wasko et al., 2012). The appropriate delivery system would have an unique
advantage in overcoming toxic manifestations on normal body functions caused by direct exposure
of the drug and to improve its therapeutic efficacy. It was thought that lipid based formulations
could be the best approach where association of the drug within the lipid molecules would protect
the vital organs from direct exposure of the drug. In some earlier reports, it was claimed that
liposomal carriers were much less toxic than FungizoneВ® which opened the gate for development
of AmB liposomal formulations (Larabi et al., 2004). This ultimately resulted in three

Crucial Similarities Of Martin Luther King Jrr And Indira...
Crucial similarities between Martin Luther King Jr and Indira Gandhi The best leaders have
momentous impact on a society due to their enormous effort of enchanting their countries by
bringing about important changes, and many people want to be like these influential public
figures. However, not all people are born with qualities to be great leaders. Although, some
people are born to be honorable and memorable leaders, such as Martin Luther King Jr and Indira
Gandhi. Usually, many kids spend most of their time playing with cars, dolls or playing with
their friends, but these two didn t have usual childhoods as others had. Instead, many people
would say, both Martin and Indira had unique lives. They had various similarities such as
participating in public activities, having supportive parents, sacrificing themselves for their
country and being assassinated. Ever since they were kids, they participated in public activities
to share their voices. For Martin Luther King Jr, being a black and segregated didn t make any
sense to him. He had to be in a different place from white people even if he was in a restaurant. In
a fact that, he wasn t allowed to have a seat on a bus because the color of his skin. At the age of
six, he had a friend, indeed, who was a white boy whose father had no intention of letting him play

Job Motivation And Salary Satisfaction
The wages for employees in child day care are not high in comparison to other professions (Van
Der Kwartel et al., 2007). When employees are content with their salary, they are likely subject to
mental agreements (Lee Lin, 2014). Job motivation and salary satisfaction are feelings that can
inspire employees and drive forces in competitive returns for organizations (Lee Lin, 2014).
Mental agreement signifies the expectation of the staff towards the organization and the
expectation of the organization towards the staff (Schein, 1980). Over a third of childcare staff
leaves their jobs annually in order to earn a better living (Whitebook, 1999). Igalens and Roussel
s (1999) study measured and compared the impact of compensation on job satisfaction and work
motivation of exempt (269) and nonexempt (297) employees. The findings revealed that fixed pay
could have a positive influence on job satisfaction on the principles of internal and external equity.
Internal equity refers to employees perception of their fixed pay as fair in relation to their
contributions to their organization, compared to other employees in the company used as a
reference. External equity denotes to employees feeling of being treated fairly, compared to other
employees outside their organization (Igalens Roussel). Heneman and Schwab (1985) defined
salary satisfaction as the degree to which employees were satisfied with their current salary.
Employees compared the efforts they made with the salary they

Jackie Robinson Integration
Jackie Robinson and the Integration of Baseball
A life is not important except in the impact it has on others (Robinson). This is the standpoint
Jackie Robinson had on life being a black person during his time period. He was a strong and
courageous man despite the hardships that were set in his lifetime. He was faced with poverty, low
income, and racial threats, but was granted with the gift of being a great athlete. Jackie Robinson
being the first black MLB player had a great affect on American history because he helped boost
morale, pushed toward civil rights, and integrated blacks into white sports.
Jackie Robinson was a star in the eyes of the black people around him. A hero even. He gave them

Everyday life for him was having to stay at different hotels, or eat at different restaurants than his
teammates. These things put his family at risk, whether it be receiving harsh language, or
finding an equitable place to sleep. He knew these segregating laws were not fair, and the risks
of safety were high, and still put up with the harsh treatments to prove his point of equality.
Despite these things, he knew what he was doing would eventually lead to the full integration of
sports. When the manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers gave Robinson the chance to break the
unwritten color barrier, he gladly accepted. He would have given anything to show that a black
man was just as competent as a white. And he did. In 1981, his wish came true with an estimated
19% of Major League baseball players being African American, a startling change from the
previous years.(mlblogs.com) Now, nearly 70 years later, all sports are integrated without a
thought to color or race. This accomplishment made a huge difference to the black members of
society and to our history in general. Jackie Robinson got his wish, even though he didn t live long
enough to see it happen all the way through. Because of him, black players now have an equal
opportunity to play and take part in the sports they

The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark Essay
The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark
Miss Brodie fails to be a good teacher because she teaches on her own accord, gives her students
wrong impressions, and displays unprofessional behavior towards her staff and pupils.
As a schoolteacher in Edinburgh during the 1930 s there were many rules and regulations that
teachers had to adhere to in order to successfully feed the minds of their young pupils.
Schoolteachers had more of a responsibility during this period than today because school was the
only source of information and education that people could receive. Due to this fact, the government
set strict policies and curriculums (and still do) that teachers must follow so that students could
grow up to become well round ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She chose to ignore these mandatory guidelines and pursued her own fashion and material when
instructing her students. This is why Miss Jean Brodie fails to be a decent teacher.
Miss Jean Brodie is a very self centered person who likes to talk about herself to her class. She
mentions to her class on several occasions that she is in the prime of her life and that it is the
best time of ones life. Although she states that ones prime is when they are born , Miss Brodie
contradicts this statement and leads her class to believe that life is no good until one reaches their
prime, which is at her age. This is misleading for the students who are at a susceptible age. By
giving this wrong impression her students are left to believe that they have nothing to look forward
to until they reach Miss Brodie s age.
Another example of how Miss Brodie gives her student the wrong impression was her repetitive
attacks on Miss MacKay. It was obvious the two teachers did not like one another, which is
bound to happen in any profession. However, advertising this dislike to her classroom only leads
to problems. The first time that this occurs is when Miss Brodie was leading here class out to the
elm tree for the imaginary history lesson. On the way outside she stops her class in front of Miss
MacKay s office, points to a picture of the old Prime

Essay On Road Safety In Developing Countries
Road Safety in Developing Countries
By
Hussein Chami
City University London
2014/2015
Introduction
Road traffic accidents is a global issue which needs urgent attention. About 1.24 million people
die each year as a result of road traffic crashes. If this issue is not addressed the number of deaths
is expected to increase to around 1.9 million. In addition to that tens of millions are injured. The
topic of road safety is neglected in third world countries although road accidents is the leading cause
of death among young people, children, pedestrians, and cyclists.
The majority of the world s traffic, more than 90%, accidents occur in developed countries although
these countries have just over half of the world s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These data will be examined thoroughly, both by descriptive statistics and statistical models to
identify the relationship between the accident rate and the factors that influence the accidents such
as competence, road conditions, vehicle condition etc. Finally recommendations on how to tackle
these factors will be delivered in order to reduce road accidents and therefore death rates.
Objectives of the Research
This research will focus on Lebanon as the main developing country. Primary causes of road
traffic accidents will be examined thoroughly and in depth as investigating road casualties is very
complex and needs a lot of interpretation. Increase in vehicle owner has also led to an increase in
road accidents and injuries. However there are also other factors that influence the increase of
accidents and injuries. In addition to that human related causes over the previous decades have
increased the complexity of the problem. Therefore an urgent attention is need to investigate and
tackle the trends that lead to traffic accidents.
Therefore the objective of this research is to:
Identify the major causes of traffic accidents in developing nations
Investigate the critical causes of accidents in developing countries (Lebanon Qatar)
Test and validate the hypothesis developed on the critical causes of road accidents using statistical
models
Use the UK road safety model for recommendations in order to improve the road safety issue in

Different Strokes for Different Folks in To Kill a...
Morals are something that everyone has. In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the book is
full of morally right people and morally wrong people. Jem is one of the most morally stable
children in the book because he understands what is happening in his community around the time
of Tom Robinson s trial and why it is wrong. He and I share some of the same morals and that is
why I picked him as my character choice. I am a very sensitive person. It s been this way since I
could remember. So, I try to be sensitive to other people s feelings. So, about a month ago, I
started going to club volleyball ,but I signed up late. The first time I went to practice, I expected
to take some flack from the girls because I was the new kid . Surprisingly though, everyone was
nice to me except one girl. Her name was Cassie and she knew everything that had to do with
volleyball. As the season progressed on and the new kid vibe faded, Cassie still made me feel
like dirt. I never saw her tell any of the other girls on my team what to do when they made a
mistake and I kind of felt singled out. My mom had picked me up from and I ranted, and ranted,
until my mom stepped in and said, Elon, think about all you just said. You don t know what she s
like except during volleyball. I know for a fact she has problems at home because her mom told
me. I tuned her out halfway through because I was tired of my mom defending everyone other than
me. But the longer I thought about, the more of what she said

Describe the computing innovation s intended purpose and function.
Describe how your computational artifact illustrates, represents or explains the computing
innovation s intended purpose, its function or its effect. (Approximately 100 words)
The computing innovation that is being represented by my artifact is Email. Email is when you mail
someone a message electronically from your computer to their computer. Before the innovation of
Email, people needed to write a letter and add the address and stamp. Then put the letter into
their mailbox and wait for the postal service to pick it up. Once the postal service picked up the
letter and sorted out where it is going to go, it gets delivered to the recipient s mailbox and they
can then pick it up and read it. Now, that email has been invented, you can send the letter through
email, which is a lot faster and less time consuming.

Protestant Old Testament Essay
In the Catholic faith, the Protestant belief of sola scriptura or scripture alone is to be used along
with the Magisterial authority of those in the church such as the Pope and Bishops, which is a long
standing belief from the church s founding in 33 AD. The Protestant Bible and The Catholic Bible
both use the same New Testament, which was defined by Athanasius in 367, but use a different Old
Testament. The Protestant Old Testament is different than the Catholic Old Testament because of
the history of the founding of the Protestant faith. The Protestant Old testament comes from the
Hebrew Bible which was decided to have 24 books, with this canon being accepted at the Councils
of Jamnia in 90 118 AD. (Coffman) The early church fathers, however, were using the Septuagint ,
a Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible because they could read Greek but not Hebrew. (Coffman)

The Pre Industrial Working Class
In this present article I wish to consider a particular episode in the early contemporary activity of
the pre industrial working class, or at least a precise and common aspect of it: the quintessential
purposed land riot. In modern divided economic conflict its role is now less decisively familiar
for good practical reasons. For semi feudal rural societies in past decades we can still observe the
logic being referred to. Chiefly among them the phenomenon of pulling down established / newly
established dividing fences and burning hedgerows as a defeated act by already unresolved
working class / peasant militancy. In formal results these are still relatively clear in general massed
terms: (i) mass confrontation followed by (ii) mass expulsion and (iii) mass defeat, was, and
remains, the norm of implicit results. The hypothesis remains rightly justified in the case of the
early industrial land action, if not exact. Yet the effective return of the land question to several
different sorts of conservative movements of agricultural labourers in several developing or even
well advanced capitalist countries and with it the straightforward organising action predominantly
accepted in Latin America, still moreso in Eastern Europe , in recent years ensures the technique
deserves a degree of historical thought and comment. There exists today obviously some about
under bearing for the interest; as has been qualified in other features as a debate. Such conjecture
rests on the

Students are required to take Humanities 201 because it teaches us about the modern world and the
themes and issues that are happening in society. However, as time continues, students taking this
same course fifty years from now will not be studying the same material, since it will no longer be
considered modern. Throughout the current contemporary world that was taught this past semester,
many themes and ideas have lead me to sum up the class in one word: diverse. One theme in
particular to expand on the idea equality amongst race and gender. Many artists and writers such as
Cindy Sherman, Robert Mapplethorpe, Simone de Beauvior, and Andy Warholhave expressed this
theme within their works in a way that was both bold and shocking. These... Show more content on

Society fifty years from now would not have been very accepting to homosexual and gender
equalities. Although there is still not a full acceptance of these topics, society has come a very
long way from viewing others with limited perception. There will always be problems of
stereotyping in the world. However, I would say that the perception of our world today has a
more open mind set and has strayed away from the conservative and religious ideas within
society. Many unique and shocking pictures, like the ones from Robert Mapplethorpe and Cindy
Sherman, have become a normal way of art in today s world, which makes this course much
more diverse compared to the works that were seen in pre modern. While many people in the
world still refuse to accept the contemporary views on gender and equality, there are still an
amazing number of people that have accepted to be open to these views and have pushed these
views further towards

Atypical Antipsychotics Block the D2 receptors of mesolimbic region leads to the antipsychotic action and also block the 5HT2A serotonin receptors which allows dopamine release in dorsal striatum region resulting in no extrapyramidal side effects (EPS). Hence atypical antipsychotics are superior over typicals. Nowadays majority of the atypical antipsychotics are used due to its benefits. • 3. Comparing Bradstreet, Edward Taylor, And Jonathan Edwards Puritans believed in hard work and pleasing God. Therefore in this essay I will be comparing and contrasting three Puritan writings that were written by Anne Bradstreet, Edward Taylor, and Jonathan Edwards. Their writings express perspectives of Puritan beliefs, however the differences in the writings show the variations between the purpose of their writings, the language, and the tone. In this essay I will first look at Bradstreet s poem, second I ll review Taylor s poem, third I will analyze Edward s sermon, and finally I will state the similarities between the three. Bradstreet wrote her poems for the sole purpose to pass time, and she had no intention to have them published. Her poems also differ from the other two author s writings because her poems were stolen and published by her brother in law without her consent. Her writing style is different form the other two because she uses an inversed writing style. For example instead of saying I was wakened with a thund ring noise, she says I wakened ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He wrote the sermon as part of the Great Awakening to scare people to come back to the Church and Religion. His writing style and language was different in the fact that he used repetition to emphasize things like sinners who are in the hand of an angry God and the burning for eternity in the fiery pits of Hell. The sermon contained a lot more dark and menacing language, for instance he used words like, wrath, Hell, fire, and misery. Edwards s sermon had a tone that was intimidating but in the last little paragraph he gave people a little bit of hope that they could still be saved from the fiery pits of Hell. The sermon provided insight of the Great Awakening that was happening at that time period. It showed one of the tactics to draw people back to the church and away from science. Finally, I will compare the similarities of all three ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Rates Of Teen Pregnancy Essay INTRODUCTION Throughout the United States, rates of teen pregnancy are significantly high. In 2013, there were 26.5 births for every 1,000 adolescent females ages 15 19, or 273,105 babies born to females in this age group.1 Young, minority women between the ages of 15 and 24 appear to be at greater risk for becoming pregnant. Minority populations are also linked with low socioeconomic status, whether in terms of education or income, or both. Having low income and lower levels of education (the most commonly used measures of SES) were also associated with increased risk for unintended pregnancies, with 62% of pregnancies being unintended among those earning 200% of the FPL.2 In addition, with minority populations growing rapidly, many of these young women and their families live in smaller, more rural areas. According to one study, in rural and small town areas the Hispanic population increased by 1.9 million or 46 percent between 2000 and 2010.3 In rural areas there is often limited access to nearby health care facilities. With income, education and living inadequacies, these young women face complications with availability and ready access to contraception, and are therefore less likely to practice effective utilization of contraceptives. There is evidence that minority and low SES women are less likely to use contraception overall, use different contraceptive methods, and have higher rates of contraceptive failure than white and higher SES women.2 Cultural beliefs and ... • 7. Reflection On Behavior Intervention Reflection I do not feel that I have sufficient data to make an informed decision on the effectiveness of this intervention for Adam. However, I would conclude that my attempt at a behavior intervention was unsuccessful. This was due to a variety of reasons. The foremost reason being to inconsistent application of the intervention. At times, weeks passed between trials. As we have learned, intervention is successful when it is implemented regularly. It was unwise to set my intervention monitoring in an environment which I have no control over and for a small window of time, for a specific type of instruction. Instruction is not given at a set period of time, as I had thought when collecting my baseline data. Adam s general education teacher often has them do individual work, then moves to whole group instruction, at which point I need to leave. Furthermore, there are a great deal of holidays during autumn, so students were often participating in the arts, rather than math. These issues could have potentially been avoided if I had spoken to his general education teacher about her schedule, but I did not. Further consultation could have helped this project to be successful. The token board may have not been the most appropriate intervention for what I was doing. I chose this intervention because both Adam and I are familiar with it. Further, I had planned to increase the duration overtime. My plan was, for the first week or two, I would have my student focus for one minute ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on An Exploration of Vegetarianism I.Thesis Definition The purpose of this paper is to investigate the trend of vegetarianism and its steady increase in popularity in the United States, the possible causes behind the existence of this trend, its effects on our general society and the practicing population, and finally, the future of vegetarianism. For the purpose of this paper vegetarianism is described as a plant based diet (fruits, vegetables, etc), though the most important factor being the total exclusion of meat, not including fish for most practitioners. While numerous sub levels of this lifestyle exist, including veganism (abstaining from the use of all animal products) and semi vegetarianism (a person cutting back on meat intake), this study will focus mainly on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1992, as the medical evidence supporting this lifestyle skyrocketed, the American Dietetic Association officially endorsed vegetarianism, thus solidifying a prominent argument for the credibility of the vegetarian diet. From the 1990s to present day, the amount of practitioners has markedly increased, and appears to be continually growing at a steady rate. According to a 2008 study conducted by the Harris Interactive Service Bureau on behalf of Vegetarian Times magazine, roughly 3.2 percent of U.S. adults, or 7.3 million people, follow a vegetarian based diet. In addition, 22.8 million Americans maintain to follow a vegetarian inclined diet, while 11.9 million are definitely interested in becoming a vegetarian in the future ( Vegetarianism ). While no concrete evidence of a current rise yet exists, researchers speculate that, because of new environmental and health concerns, more people are, and will be, turning to vegetarianism to assist these issues (Rohrer). • 10. Comparing Asexual Vs. Response To Environment What is life? A question that sounds simple, but in reality is more complex and could be answered in multiple ways. The focus of this will be comparing asexual versus sexual reproduction. Also, the evolution and adaptation versus response to environment. And lastly, but not any less important is homeostasis. Sexual versus asexual reproductionboth have benefits and disadvantages. Asexual is the development of a new organism forming from one parent. When an asexual organism has an offspring their offspring has the same exact genetic material. If the parent were to have a disease the child would automatically get the disease in their lifetime. An sexual organism has to mate to form and offspring. Usually an sexual organism has to be a maleand female together to produce. To produce a new organism the egg and sperm have to meet. Moral could be considered a reason for the Americans winning the war because it kept them going through there up and downs. To begin my essay, I ll start it with a brief summary on Arnold, so the reader will understand who he really was. Benedict Arnold was born on January 14,1741 in Norwich, Connecticut. His ancestors William Arnold and his family who left England because of religious persecution were the first Arnold s in New England. Arnold was a brilliant leader in the continental army, leading to many victories for the United States. His uncommon bravery had really showed a great impression on all the soldiers, boosting their morals even more. Arnold dedicated himself to the Revolutionary cause, sacrificing family life, health, and financial well being for a conflict that left him physically crippled, sullied by false accusations, and profoundly alienated from the American cause of liberty. Arnold can be considered one of the best American Generals during the fight for independence. He was very well known for that and respected. Though congress would never give him his deserved promotions. Now as we learn about Arnold, we are never taught of what he did but instead of his treasury. Arnold really didn t turn on his country but the country had turned on him for not noticing his great achievements for the fight for independence. The only honor that was rewarded to Arnold was the Boot monument where he had fought the Battle of Saratoga. He wasn t rewarded for his great accomplishment but just rewarded for a wounded leg. Congress though had never motivated Arnold and always picked on him. Arnold was simple; he was a man with great honor who fought for independence and to keep his family name respected. The United States interposed their selves after a Naval ship, the USS Maine, was destroyed. The journalism at the time, yellow journalism to be specific, blamed Spain for the sinking of the battleship, and so the United Statesdecided to step in. John Lukacs, an American Hungarian author, wrote The Meaning of 98 as an examination of the crucial parts of and leading up to The Spanish American War. The Green Berets is would be classified as a pro war film depicted in favor of the American troops. The Green Berets, contrasts the harshness and brutality of the Vietcong with the generosity and inherently good nature of the Americans in treatment od child, women and men. On the other hand, Apocalypse Now may be categorized as both a pro war movie and an anti war movie because the film both reveals and conceals political and national ambivalence towards the Vietnam War. Therefore this film is not overtly antiwar, but it takes pains to reveal the atrocities of a war fought by America in the name of democracy and freedom. For example, in the air strike, sampan, and bridge scenes, the film clearly depicts the death and destruction that result directly from U.S. involvement; instead of helping innocent civilians, American troops kill them. They are strangers in a strange land, yet they act as if they own it, staking out territory and firing without provocation. One of the biggest differences I noticed right away was the opera scenery that each of the shows had. L Orfeo, written by Claudio Monteverdi had a much more theatrical vibe with elaborate scenery, props, and costumes used by the performers. The backdrop changed colors and had scenery images to help with representing the setting and time of day throughout the performance. Many props were used by all roles of the cast. The costumes were more elaborate and detailed compared to that of Dido and Aeneas, written by Henry Purcell. Only men could have a high positioned job, and could hunt and other masculine things. This was true, however, in Macbeth written by William Shakespeare he portrays that both the men and the women in the play craved and have powerful roles, and desire ambition. Additionally, he shows how the roles of genderare flipped between Macbethand Lady Macbeth, and displays that Lady Macbeth wants control over Macbeth. In the play Lady Macbeth stands in for Macbeth s manliness throughout the text, and she was the brain of all his decisions. She desired to manipulate his decisions so it would work out in her favor, so she could have a higher position as queen. Although A Strange Infirmary authored by Jenijoy La belle asserts that the actions of a women in that time period were not looked at as manly actions, and women were incapable to have such manly cravings due to their physical setbacks characteristics, and in The Five Tragedies in Macbeth written by Miguel Bernad, he states that the roles of gender flip and the characteristics of each gender can be in either characters, and he shows the intense grip of Lady Macbeth s power over her husband. The head of each family in the town draws a slip from a black box. One of the slips in the black box contains a black dot. This game is the town s form of a lottery; who ever draws the dotted slip will be stoned to death by the other town members. She does this by showing readers that members of the society will hold on to inhumane practices simply because the practice is considered tradition. In this exploration of this towns traditional lottery , Jackson leads the reader down a savage story line. Jackson is able to draw on the ethnic appeal by focusing on the very moment of the stoning. I sat in my darkened bedroom, silent tears streaming down my face, as I waited for a call or text from my friends. It had been my birthday for twenty three hours and fifty four minutes, and I had heard nothing from them. I lay in my bed, wondering how this had happened. Before I started high school, I was part of a close knit group of friends that was nearly inseparable. When freshman year began, however, things changed. My friends and I were still on good terms, but the tension between us grew as our definition of fun changed. By the time Christmas break had rolled around, I was ready to take a break from school and celebrate the holidays, which included my birthday, with my friends and family. Unbeknownst to me, my fifteenth birthday would be one to remember in the worst way possible. I did not have high expectations for my birthday. I planned on having an easygoing day; my family and I were going to see a movie and have dinner at a restaurant of my choice. I was expecting some Happy Birthday text messages and Facebook posts from friends, a phone call from my grandma, and some kind of birthday surprise from my best friends. Modern sociology is characterized by three main theoretical approaches: symbolic interactionism, functional analysis, and conflict theory. Personally, I believe that symbolic interactionism is the most logically viable approach to understanding modern society due to its understanding of the meaning people ascribe to everyday concepts. As a theory, functionalism fails to mention those who either deviate from the whole or work against society. Concerning Marx s conflict theory, for now, the time of competing for scarcities has ebbed; there are other, more pressing factors driving society today such as family and an individual s aspirations. Track and Field events have come a long way since the Ancient Greek Olympic games. Many events and techniques have been revised, added, or eliminated since the original Greek Olympics. Another type of footrace, called the hoplite, was introduced rather late in the history of the Ancient Olympics. The race was of about two stades undertaken while wearing battle armor composed of round shields and plumed helmets. Racing over hurdles was not at all part of the Greeks knowledge during the Ancient Olympics. It was established later in the modern Olympic trials. Another Track and Field event is the long jump. This event differed very greatly from the jumping we see today. The jumpers would have a running start and be holding weights in their hands for momentum purposes. The use of the weights, which were swung about during the run and jump, caused the jumper to have a much larger distance than the athletes of the modern Olympics. In fact, the ancient jumping events are highly controversial because of the ludicrous records found about the distance of the jumps in ancient Greece. One record states that a contestant jumped 55 feet. The modern record for the running long jump is near 30 feet and it seems to many track and field experts that it would be quite impossible for anyone to jump 55 feet, even with the help of an impetus. The Concept Of Leadership And Leadership Thought Item 2 (Option 1) In today s society the concept of leadership provides a structure for decisions to be made within teams, organizations, and businesses. The notion that only leaders should be credited for the success or failure carried out by their teams has been instilled in our minds since we first understood the concept of hierarchies. The fact that most business schools even posses a required leadership course proves the significance of this concept within today s society. While it is astounding how essential the idea of leadership has become, it is important for us to begin looking at leadership under a new light: leadership does not exist without followers because the followers themselves are the true leaders. It is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The amount of work that the head of a team puts into a project is quite small compared to the total amount of work applied by everyone associated with the completion of the task. When defining the significance of roles within organizations, it is important to factor in the composition of the culture as a whole. Many people credit the creation of an organization s culture to the head of the organization. While this single leader may define how they envision the culture to be, the members as a whole truly develop the culture. This insight allows us to shift our focus from the leader to the followers. As a society, by accepting the fact that followers are our true leaders, we are bound to endure many positive and negative consequences resulting from the implementation. Followers will likely feel more empowered to make more decisions because they will be receiving more recognition for their work. This increase in empowerment will cause followers to be more productive within their roles, which will lead to a harder working society as a whole as more and more organizational structures follow suit. Another positive aspect of following this new approach is that we will steer away from the great amount of negative consequences created by single leaders due to the current composition of leadership. One of the sports physics is involved in is softball. Newton s first law states when an object is in motion it stays in motion until acted upon by an outside force. This is the key element in softball. When the pitcher pitches the ball it travels on the path until the batter hits the ball. The softball travels through the air due to the seams (Bauer Westfall, Motion of a Softball, 2010). The seams cause high and low pressure fronts while the grip determines how the ball will rotate. As the pitcher pitches the softball the ball continues on the path until the batter hit the ball, thus changing the direction and speed (Bauer Westfall, 2010). The key to getting a good hit is hitting the ball on the sweet spot of the bat. The sweet spot is where there is the minimal vibration from the contact with the ball. This maximizing the energy transferred and the distance the ball will travel. The sweet spot is located about 17 centimeters from the end of the barrel (Bauer Westfall, 2010). The batter will be able to tell when the ball has hit the sweet spot on the bat because the batters hands will not sting. To analysis the physics of hitting a softball a person can use an equation and a free body force diagram (see Appendix A for free body force diagram). A uniform slender rod, pivoted at the end, represents the bat. FPx is the x factor of the force exerted on the slender rod by the fixed pivot P. P represents the hands of the batter holding the bat and P is expected to be a frictionless pivot. FPy is the y factor of the force applied on the slender rod by the fixed pivot P. • 40. The Theory Of Reasoned Action Following this, (2) The Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA) was developed by both Martin Fishbein and Icek Ajzen, and it is one of the three classic persuasion models of psychology, and is also used in communication discourse as a theory of understanding persuasive messages. It explains the relationship between attitudes and behaviors with human action. This theory is also used to predict how people will behave based on his/hers pre existing attitudes and behavioral intentions. The decision to engage in a particular behavioris based on the outcomes the individual expects will come as a result of performing the behavior. Behavioral intent is allegedly created or caused by two main factors, which include our attitudes and our subjective norms. Some key constructs for this theory include; attitude toward the behavior (outcome expectations and value of outcome expectations), subjective norms (beliefs of others, and desire to comply with others). Last, we have the (3) Theory of Planned Behavior. The Theory of Planned Behavior, also known as (TPB), is a concept proposed by Icek Ajzen that link beliefs and behavior. It was added to the Theory of Reasoned action to address the inadequacies of the existing model. It is one of the most influential and popular conceptual frameworks for the study of human actions. This theory proposes a model, which can measure how human actions are guided and details the determinants of an individual s decision to enact a particular behavior. Attitudes, ... Taking a Look at Amphotecering B (AmB) Amphotericin B (AmB), a polyene macrolide antibiotic, is highly effective against various Leishmania species and is currently recommended as first line treatment for the visceral form (Dea Ayuela et al., 2004). Amphoteric nature of AmB contributed by its hydrophobic (the polyene hydrocarbon chain) and hydrophilic (the polyhydroxyl chain) domains, is responsible for poor aqueous and organic solubility, and intercalation into cell membranes to elicit drug s pharmacological effects (Milhaud et al., 2002). To sort out insolubility and non absorbability problems conventional AmB formulation FungizoneВ® (a complex with bile salt deoxycholate) is available. However, toxic side effects, in particular, hemotoxicity and azotemia which occurs in around 80% cases and renal tubular damage at therapeutic doses have often limited its clinical applications (Wasko et al., 2012). The appropriate delivery system would have an unique advantage in overcoming toxic manifestations on normal body functions caused by direct exposure of the drug and to improve its therapeutic efficacy. It was thought that lipid based formulations could be the best approach where association of the drug within the lipid molecules would protect the vital organs from direct exposure of the drug. Job motivation and salary satisfaction are feelings that can inspire employees and drive forces in competitive returns for organizations (Lee Lin, 2014). Mental agreement signifies the expectation of the staff towards the organization and the expectation of the organization towards the staff (Schein, 1980). Internal equity refers to employees perception of their fixed pay as fair in relation to their contributions to their organization, compared to other employees in the company used as a reference. External equity denotes to employees feeling of being treated fairly, compared to other employees outside their organization (Igalens Roussel). Although she states that ones prime is when they are born , Miss Brodie contradicts this statement and leads her class to believe that life is no good until one reaches their prime, which is at her age. This is misleading for the students who are at a susceptible age. • 52. The Computing Innovation And Computational Artifact Written Responses 2a. Provide information on your computing innovation and computational artifact. Name the computing innovation that is represented by your computational artifact. Describe the computing innovation s intended purpose and function. Describe how your computational artifact illustrates, represents or explains the computing innovation s intended purpose, its function or its effect. (Approximately 100 words) The computing innovation that is being represented by my artifact is Email. Email is when you mail someone a message electronically from your computer to their computer. Before the innovation of Email, people needed to write a letter and add the address and stamp. Then put the letter into their mailbox and wait for the postal service to pick it up. Once the postal service picked up the letter and sorted out where it is going to go, it gets delivered to the recipient s mailbox and they can then pick it up and read it. Now, that email has been invented, you can send the letter through email, which is a lot faster and less time consuming. 2b. Describe your development process, explicitly identifying the computing tools and techniques you used to create your artifact. Your description must be detailed enough so that a person unfamiliar with those tools and techniques will understand your process. (Approximately 100 words) To make the artifact i used Canva, which lets me make graphic designs. I used a blank custom sized graphic to start. Next, I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Protestant Old Testament Essay In the Catholic faith, the Protestant belief of sola scriptura or scripture alone is to be used along with the Magisterial authority of those in the church such as the Pope and Bishops, which is a long standing belief from the church s founding in 33 AD. The Protestant Bible and The Catholic Bible both use the same New Testament, which was defined by Athanasius in 367, but use a different Old Testament. The Protestant Old Testament is different than the Catholic Old Testament because of the history of the founding of the Protestant faith. The Protestant Old testament comes from the Hebrew Bible which was decided to have 24 books, with this canon being accepted at the Councils of Jamnia in 90 118 AD. (Coffman) The early church fathers, however, were using the Septuagint , a Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible because they could read Greek but not Hebrew. (Coffman) ... In these alone is the doctrine of piety recorded. Let no one add to them or take anything away from them. (Paschal Epistle, 367; Synods of Hippo, 393; Carthage I, 397; Carthage II, 419) A letter of Pope St. Innocent I officially listed these books in 405. (Saunders) The King James version, printed in 1611, printed these books in between the Old and New Testament. (Saunders) The Council of Florence, 1442, established the official canon as 46 books in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament, (Saunders) The Council of Trent, 1546, also decided to keep these books. • 54. The Pre Industrial Working Class In this present article I wish to consider a particular episode in the early contemporary activity of the pre industrial working class, or at least a precise and common aspect of it: the quintessential purposed land riot. In modern divided economic conflict its role is now less decisively familiar for good practical reasons. For semi feudal rural societies in past decades we can still observe the logic being referred to. Chiefly among them the phenomenon of pulling down established / newly established dividing fences and burning hedgerows as a defeated act by already unresolved working class / peasant militancy. In formal results these are still relatively clear in general massed terms: (i) mass confrontation followed by (ii) mass expulsion and (iii) mass defeat, was, and remains, the norm of implicit results. The hypothesis remains rightly justified in the case of the early industrial land action, if not exact. Yet the effective return of the land question to several different sorts of conservative movements of agricultural labourers in several developing or even well advanced capitalist countries and with it the straightforward organising action predominantly accepted in Latin America, still moreso in Eastern Europe , in recent years ensures the technique deserves a degree of historical thought and comment. There exists today obviously some about under bearing for the interest; as has been qualified in other features as a debate. Such conjecture rests on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Cindy Sherman, Simone De Beauvior, And Andy Warhol Students are required to take Humanities 201 because it teaches us about the modern world and the themes and issues that are happening in society. However, as time continues, students taking this same course fifty years from now will not be studying the same material, since it will no longer be considered modern. Throughout the current contemporary world that was taught this past semester, many themes and ideas have lead me to sum up the class in one word: diverse. One theme in particular to expand on the idea equality amongst race and gender. Many artists and writers such as Cindy Sherman, Robert Mapplethorpe, Simone de Beauvior, and Andy Warholhave expressed this theme within their works in a way that was both bold and shocking. These... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Society fifty years from now would not have been very accepting to homosexual and gender equalities. Although there is still not a full acceptance of these topics, society has come a very long way from viewing others with limited perception. There will always be problems of stereotyping in the world. However, I would say that the perception of our world today has a more open mind set and has strayed away from the conservative and religious ideas within society. Many unique and shocking pictures, like the ones from Robert Mapplethorpe and Cindy Sherman, have become a normal way of art in today s world, which makes this course much more diverse compared to the works that were seen in pre modern. While many people in the world still refuse to accept the contemporary views on gender and equality, there are still an amazing number of people that have accepted to be open to these views and have pushed these views further towards ...
