Why I Chose The Skeletal System
Human anatomy is the scientific study of the human body that consists of several
interacting systems. According to Wiki, Anatomy has become a key part of the visual
arts. The skeletal system is one of the most drawn systems of human anatomy. The
skeletal system is the framework of the human body that provides support, protection,
and flexibility. Hillendale Health says, Without your skeletonyour body would
collapse into a heap. I chose the skeletal systembecause without it we would not be
able to experience the significant parts of life. The skeletal system is all of the bones
in the body and the tissues such as tendons, ligaments, and cartilage that connect
them. Bones, tendons, ligaments, and cartilage account for about twenty percent
The Code Switching Language Teaching
The code switching language taught me a new way to reach my future students on a
grammatical level in any part of the state I choose to teach in. Code switching is
teaching that informal and formal language is neither incorrect nor correct but which
form is appropriate for the situation that the student is in. The method improves
grammar and the students grasp on written and spoken English, while not focusing
on the students ability to write a correct sentence. While learning about code
switching the process reminded me of an urban slang dictionary being used. A code

Learning about dialects was another interesting topic we discussed in class, the
topic made me really think deep about what kind of dialect I use in everyday life.
Dialects are a specific variation of a language in a particular region or ethic group
with individualized phonological features to wide range of groups. A large part of
decoding dialects is the understanding of the International Phonetic Alphabet,
phonology, and phonemes used in the different areas you might be teaching in.
Phonology is the study of sound and phonemes is the smallest unit of sound both are
key to use and listen for when in a new region of the country. The International
Phonetic Alphabet represents the sounds letters make for a spoken language and
when written the word reads as a certain dialect. Lexical features of dialects are the
preferred terms of words used in certain dialects with different synonyms used by
other dialects. Learning about dialects also taught me how people code switch from
home to public settings. I speak a Northern Jersey with a small amount of classic
southern mixed into my dialect. Allowing me to understand multiple dialects
including Standard English. My stronger northern accent may cause me teaching in
areas with a strong southern accent to be a little bit of a struggle with my students
and myself.

Issac Newton had contributed many scientific research during his life, but he was

traditional art and contemporary art. Chang is, more or less, a half Asian who was
born in New York City in 1954. Although, his mother was half Chinese and his
father was full Chinese, Chang was hardly exposed to the Chinese language or
culture as a child. Chang found his love for art when he visited an exhibit featuring
a six panel screen of lotus flowers by Zhang Daqian (Silbergeld 161). After his
father recognized Chang s interest in Chinese art, Chang began taking lessons from
his neighbor, Wang Jiyuan, a Chinese renowned artist living in New York City at the

Why Did The Amish Society Build Up
The Amish
Hi everyone!
Today I am going to talk about the Amish People, but before I do that I would like to
begin by explaining what it means to be Amish
Firstly I would like all of you to use your imagination and think back in time when
our society weren t really developed. A time when you or you, I mean everyone
was probably working on their farms and homes for a living by only using one tool,
which was their hands. I am talking about a time before computers and internet. This
was the society during 18 and 19 century.

Amish people are living to day How did the Amish society build up?
The Amish was founded in the border areas between German, Belgium and the
Netherlands by a man called Jakob Ammann in 1693 1697. He made up rules like
washing your feet s before praying and simplicity with your clothing and this rules
are still in the same order now days. The Amish people even have their own language

The Life of Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ means numerous things to people: the Son of God, Savior, the Messiah,
etc. But many might still not know what happened during Jesus s life. There are
numerous stories in the Bible. His story starts in the New Testament, though the
prophecies about Him are in the Old Testament. Through the Bible, people have been
able to decipher the Messianic prophecies, Jesuss death and resurrection, and Jesus s
return.
The Messianic Prophecies are prophecies about the Messiah. He will end the dark
times, and bring joy (Isaiah 9: 1 7). God will make this possible by giving us Jesus,
His Son (Isaiah 9:6). Jesus, who not only is the Son of God, but also God, will
bring peace. He will be the king. This will happen because God loves us all so
much. God then goes on to talk about how His Son will bring justice, and will not
stick out in a crowd (Isaiah 42: 1 7). There was nothing particularly striking about
Jesus, in appearance or demeanor (Isaiah 53:2). Because of others suffering, Jesus
felt their sadness (Isaiah 53:4). God wanted Jesus to suffer in His life so that
humans can be saved; though Jesus never complained. Jesus was the sacrifice. He
died for our sins. But He succeeded in what was needed to be done. Afterward, He
would have a remarkable spot in heaven (Isaiah 53:11 12).
Jesus s death is one of the biggest events in the Bible. Judas, who was one of Jesus s
apostles, betrayed Him and gave Him over to the Jews who had been planning to kill
Him in exchange for money (Luke

The Original Quote Analysis
The original quote, titled as I was born to make mistakes not to fake perfection,
from Drake, demonstrates that everyone makes mistakes. The singer goes on to
explain we weren t born to be perfect. While some might view these lyrics as advice
to stop trying to be perfect. The quote suggest that the writer is held to standard of
perfection when in reality he isn t perfect. I found the original text interesting
because a lot of celebrities portray to the media they have perfect lifestyles. Whereas,
Drake acknowledged he s only humanand makes mistakes too, even though he is a
celebrity. Another thing that was fascinating about the original quote was he
acknowledged that people weren t born to fake perfection. I choose to remix and
change the original version to display more irony.

why I chose this quote from Drake? I explained to her that Drake was one of few
celebrities to bring attention to the reality of celebrities lives. Overall, the feedback

One should always keep the aircraft away from airports and stay well away from
regular aircraft, as a drone can cause serious havoc if it comes close to a regular
plane. When I first began building and flying remote controlled aircraft it was kind
of difficult finding a place to fly. The only place available at the time was a grass
runway that was owned and maintained by a modeling club. I had to join the club
and pay membership dues. I also had to join the AMA (American Modelers
Association) and have my transmitters inspected and certified for use at the club
field. Finding a good place to fly was kind of a hassle. I needed a run way that was
at least 200 feet long and about fifty feet wide. This presents a problem if you don t
live in a rural area. Winter made things a little bit more simple because I had built
ski s that I could attach to the landing gear of whatever fixed wing plane I was
flying. The snow didn t have to be real deep, just deep enough to make the landing
area smooth and somewhat flat. Transporting the plane itself was a challenge also.
The planes had large wingspans and were really quite large. You could not just set
one in the back seat of the car, I needed a truck to haul the plane and the wings and
all of the equipment that was needed to make repairs, as well as the fuel for the

The Importance Of Living In A Big City In California

that city it can have great weather. One city that I really think everyone would want

just to pack up your stuff and leave. To describe the west in just one word is

The Science Fiction Genre And Genre Essay
The science fiction film genre has been around almost as long as movies have, but
like the cinema it is still a fairly young art form. This genre came into existence
shortly after the invention of the movie camera in 1888 and has endured for over one
hundred years. Science fiction is adaptive; it changes with the times and this trend
can be seen in its incorporation of other genres, cultural history and technology. This
essay will attempt to define the genre, chronicle the history and evolution, and
explore its relation to technology. This is in general and in the cinema.
When discussing the science fiction film genre a problem occurs. The distinction
between science fiction and other genres is not always clear cut. Many movies
span between the science fiction genre and other genres. Movies such as The Ring
(2002) or the Alien series (1979, 1986, 1992, 1997) illustrate how the distinction
between science fiction and horror films can be obscure. (Telotte 46) Some
comedies, such as Mars Attacks (1996) and Back to the Future (1985), are very
much science fiction. (Mitchell 133) In fact there is an example of a science fiction
film fitting into almost any genre. Starship Troopers (1997) parallels a war film and
Outland (1981) resembles a western in many respects. (Telotte 45)
The characteristics that define the science fiction genre can be difficult to pin down.
A genre such as the western has easily identifiable characteristics such as cowboys,
guns, the wild west, and bad

What Is The Role Of Women In The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial revolution. Arguably one of the greatest moments in English and
global history. A time that had industrialized the whole of England, revolutionized
science, government, literature, machinery, and even art. However, despite these
evolutionary and forever game changing events, the Industrial Revolution had a dark
side. In order for the industrialization of England to be stable and maintained, human
hands were required in factories, mills, and mines. From dawn till dusk, men,
women, and children engaged in dangerous and hard labour and were paid far
below what they deserved for doing so. They were mistreated in a various ways that

Written by Dickens in 1815, Hard Times attempts to convince readers by illustrating
the fact that life during the Industrial Revolution was anything but pleasant for human
beings. Centred around Mr. Gradgrind and his moderately sized family, Dickens
succeeds at giving the reader a up close and personal view of what it meant to be a
father, mother, man, woman, and child during the industrial revolution. Dickens also
provides the reader with three central themes: the mechanization of human beings, the
conflict of fact versus fantasy, and the significance of the female figure. Dickens set
out with a goal in writing this novel to expose the truth on how grim the Industrial
Revolution really was for the human race. I therefore think that, through examining
various examples sprawled throughout the text in connection to the three themes,
there should definitely be enough evidence to conclude that Dickens interpretations
of the Industrial Revolution were believably similar and, in a sense, true to what
people were faced with during the 18th
Rhetorical Analysis Of Fast Food Nation
Over the last 50 years, the fast food industry not only sold hamburgers and French
fries. It has been a key factor for vast social changes throughout America. It has been
responsible for breaking traditional American values and reinstating new social
standards that specifically aims to benefit the industry s growth. These social
standards have inevitably changed the way the American youth respond to education
and self responsibility. Eric Schlosser, author of Fast FoodNation: The Dark Side of

Schlosser describes the labor system as highly efficient, but very dehumanizing as
a result. Schlosser states that to retain any individual worker is greatly reduced by
the ease with which he or she can be replaced (Schlosser, 104). From the viewpoint
of the reader, Schlosser appeals to the reader using pathos through logos. Schlosser
s statements make sense from a business standpoint, a business would want to be
as efficient as possible, but in doing so devalues the human life. No longer people
are seen as human individuals, now they are viewed as just cogs in a machine.
Schlosser uses words like, replace and reduce invoke a negative connotation
towards all workers alike. As a result, the reader may be emotionally provoked by
the statement. By associating a lower standard towards the average worker, the
reader is discouraged from the tactics that are employed to hire fast food workers. In

Schlosser further antagonizes the industry by
Summary Of The Fourth Of July By Audre Lorde
Fourth Of July
The famous Japanese proverb and image of the three wise monkeys see no evil,
hear no evil, speak no evil is interpreted in the Western world as a refusal to
acknowledge the evil that occurs around us. In the autobiography, The Fourth of
July, by Audre Lorde, she describes an event in her life in which she experienced
racism. Lorde s parents made sure their kids were sheltered from the racism going on
in the world and kept them from seeing it. Audre Lorde encounters racism even
though her parents tried to hide it from her, which shows how being sheltered from
issues in the world can cause greater problems when they are faced.
In the beginning, Lorde s parents attempt to hide the racism that exists in America
by making up excuses. For example, Lorde reflects on what her mother said to her
when she wanted to eat in the dining car, I wanted to eat in the dining car because I
had read all about them, but my mother reminded me for the umpteenth time that
dining car food always cost too much money . . . My mother never mentioned that
black people were not allowed into railroad dining cars headed south in 1947 (240).
When Lorde says that her mother reminded her for the umpteenth time, it
demonstrates a hyperbole because it s an over exaggeration for the sake of
emphasizing that her mother has reminded her many times. Lorde s parents try to
protect her from the racism by pretending it doesn t exist, which might be good in the
present moment, but when faced with

the core to give the look of multiple cubes grouped together.
I remembered the day vividly when I held the glamorous box with the Qi Yi

Architecture is the design of a building, just like the bones that make up the
structure of a human being, and the way it forms as a basis for a design. The
Rubik s cube is the pencil I use for drawing. The pencil is occasionally used, and
sometimes, left alone. When I am focused, I can solve my difficulties, calm and
controlled. Nevertheless, I can draw my imagination, however hard it maybe.
However, when I am inattentive, it seems like a brick wall is stopping me from my
solution. Although this pencil may cause me to stress out, it can also encourage me
to try harder, and seek out the hidden solution even with the massive brick wall in the
way. My love of architecture connects with the cube because solving problems in
puzzles is just like thinking through and designing something. In addition, whenever I
open my vision to the many designs in the world, it brings me back to the Rubik s
cube and architecture. The many designs act like the algorithms in the cube, you
sometimes make errors, and you sometimes
What Makes George Washington A Hero
George Washington was our first president and many still say our greatest. First in
war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen. Legend has it that even
as a boy Washington had the great traits of honesty and strength. He hurled a silver
dollar all the way across the Potomac River in which now flows through the city that
is named after Washington. Even more famous when he was a little boy of six he
took his hatchet and he chops his Father s favorite cherry tree. When his dad asked
if he had done it Washington replies, I can t tell a lie Pa. I did cut it with my hatchet .
Parson Weems wrote these tales after Washington was dead, but he was truly a
legend in his own time. He was trained as a surveyor in his youth, and was

give them the money they asked for because of all the help they could give. The

The NIEHS also teamed up with global alliance to get clean household cooking

believe cleaning there cookstoves to be pointless and time wasting. What they don
t know is all of the things that spill, go, and maybe even live in their stoves. In the
article Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves it states NIEHS is a part of the
Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves. The Global Alliance is helping people get
clean household cooking stoves. (Paragraph #1) With the amount of money the
NIEHS got the last time they gave so much. They gave many new clean cookstoves
to those in need. They are doing many great things, but if they got more money they
could do more things and probably faster as well. Therefor, the NIEHS gave clean
household cooking stoves to those in need so what more would they do for everyone
Essay about Problems in Air Traffic Control and Proposed...
Problems in Air Traffic Control and Proposed Solutions
In northern California this summer, the Federal Aviation Administration
(FAA) unintentionally performed it s first operational test of free flight ; aviation
without direct air traffic control. This was an unintentional experiment because it was
a result of a total shut down of the Oakland Air Route
Traffic Control Center (ARTCC).
Although Oakland is only the 16th busiest ARTCC, it s responsible for the largest
block of airspace of any ATC facility; 18 million square miles.
Oakland directs all upper level flight from San Luis Obispo, California to the
California/Oregon boarder, including most Pacific oceanic routes. The failure
happened at 7:13 a.m. local time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Flight crews did their own improvising. Some pilots squawked VFR and continued
the flight on their own. Others continued on their previously issued clearance, while
others climbed into or descended out of Class A airspace without a clearance. Later
analysis tells us one of the biggest problems was nobody believed a prolonged
outage like this could occur. Both controllers and supervisors worked on the
assumption their radar and radios would come back any moment now .
The same thought process prevailed at Bay (Oakland) TRACON where operations
were paralyzed by the Center s blackout. It s impossible to say how many
separation losses occurred during the hour long episode. Some near mid air reports
were filed, but the vast majority of separation loss situations will probably go
unreported. After power was restored, and the primary radar system was returned to
operation, extensive air traffic delays, diversions, and flight cancellations persisted
for many hours at
Bay area airports, especially departures from San Francisco International. We may
never know the full aftermath of this incident. Changes will be made as to how
power is fed to ATC facilities, and how maintenance is performed.
Contingency plans will be rewritten and controllers will be trained how to implement
them. Meanwhile, controllers nation wide are brushing up on their non radar and lost
comm procedures.
After an extensive investigation, it s now clear why the
Sexual Offenders
The purpose of the research paper is to discuss the types of punishments and
treatments sexual offenders should receive even though there might not be a cure for
it. Introduction Throughout the years of research and experiments, the society has
debated whether sexual offending behavior can be cured or not. Although there have
been alternatives to decreasing such behavior, there is no direct evidence that such
behavior can be completely purged. However, such acts can be prevented from
happening by providing treatments and programs that make opportunities
unreachable. It is very significant to keep in mind that sexual offenses vary across
cultures, religions, nations, and time. Back in the time, the society ignored such
offenses due to their

have always fascinated me and makes me feel proud to be an engineer. Engineering
is a field that improves the quality of life of people by creating ways to live better,
think better and make the society more productive. Thus it has touched people s lives

My desire to be an integral part of this process of betterment motivated me to choose
engineering as my career. A natural aptitude for mathematics, good analytical ability,
tenacity and high academic credentials helped me secure admission for undergraduate
studies at Sreenivasa Institute of Technology and Management Studies affiliated to

Who Is Edward De Vere And The Life Of William
Shakespeare
Who is Edward de Vere?
Family
To understand whether or not Edward de Vere was William Shakespeare, I must first
describe the life of Edward de Vere and the life of William Shakespeare. Edward de
Vere was the 17th Earl of Oxford and can sometimes be known as Oxford. It is know
that he was born April 12, 1550 at Castle Hedingham (the family s ancestral) and
died June 24, 1660. John de Vere his father was Lord Great Chamberlain died in
1562. His mother was Margaret Golding. After John de Vere s death Margaret
married Charles Tyrell and seem to have passed out of Oxford s life for unknown
reasons. John de Vere and Margaret Golding also had a girl named Mary who went

Thomas Smith and Laurence Nowell. Sir Thomas Smith who was England s most
respected Greek scholar and the former Cambridge tutor of William Cecil. Smith
was a scholar of widely varied interests, which was reflected in his 400 volume
library. His second tutor was Laurence Nowell who was an accomplished
cartographer, premier scholar of Anglo Saxon literature but also obtains the only
copy of Beowulf [The De Vere Society]. Another important educational influence of
De Vere s early studies was his maternal uncle Arthur Golding, an officer in the

Kitty In Gaitskill s Tiny Smiling Daddy
In countless family relationships, there is some amount of disconnect between
members. This disconnection can sometimes be seen obviously, while other times
it can be hidden or imperceptible. In Tiny Smiling Daddy , Gaitskill depicts how
people seek intimacy but don t know how to achieve it. During Stew s flashbacks
of Kitty as a child, her and Stew were intimate, but as she grew up they separated.
Jumping forward in time we see how Stew tries to express his opinions about Kitty,
although he doesn t know how to do it politely and respectfully. Looking back at
the title, it is a symbol that depicts their relationship. During Stew s flashbacks of
Kitty as a child, she and Stew were intimate, but as she grew up they separated.
While kitty was a child she would laugh at her father s jokes, and she thought it
was funny when he touched her nose hair: When Kitty was a little girl he would do
it to make her laugh. Well, he d say, do you think it s time we played with the hairs
in our nose? And she would giggle, holding her hands against her face, eyes
sparkling over her knuckles (Gaitskill 2). Here, Kitty thinks that it is pretty funny
when her dad does that and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This symbol can be noticed a few times within the story. One time is when Stew is
listening to the radio and hears La Boheme. (4) This song was picked out
specifically by Gaitskill since the opera is about bemoaning the loss of their loved
one. Which refers to Stew missing the relationship with his daughter, Kitty, and how
he wishes he could be closer to her. In addition, another symbol that comes up is the
Tiny Smiling Daddy which Stew disagrees with. I would have acknowledged my
own needs and created the possibility to connect with what therapists call the good
parent in myself (7). The tiny smiling daddy is representing all of the things that
Stew is not supportive of, and all the love that her father didn t show
Differences Between Stand By Me And The Goonies
There are many 1980 s movies about kids going on adventures, but Stand by Me
and The Goonies are two movies that took the idea of the average adventure movie
and made it more relatable to many different audiences. They are both about young,
outcasted children, primarily boys, going on a life changing adventure with their
close friends, but the movies are narrated differently. Stand by Me and The Goonies
offer two very different approaches to the classic coming of age genre; the
storylines differ greatly because Stand by Me is more serious and realistic, while
The Goonies is hilariously unrealistic and more about the fun of the adventure. Unlike

The characters in Stand by Me are also very realistic and relatable to the average
person. Even though The Goonies are about kids who are outcasts, the kids in
Stand by Me are closer to the actual definition of an outcast, which is someone who
has been rejected by society. Specifically the character Chris Chambers, who is a
perfect example of an outcast. Because his family has a bad name, he has been
labeled as the problem child in the town. Although he has done many bad things,
he is blamed for things that he has not done, which makes him relatable to many
children. In The Goonies, the kids are relatable in a way but Stand by Me s
characters go deeper than that. The Goonies is a hilariously unrealistic movie
about a group of young friends searching for a treasure filled pirate ship, setting off
many booby traps, and running away from money hungry criminals. In this movie, a
group of young boys find a treasure map in an attic and go on an adventure to save
their neighborhood from being replaced by a golf course. Although there are a few
moments in this movie that could be serious, those moments are quickly changed
back to the movie s normal humerus and fun loving demeanor. In The Goonies there
are many ridiculous booby traps that the famous pirate One Eyed Willie set up that
the group of friends ran into multiple times. The very first

Arjay never meant to kill anyone. They both had to overcome multiple obstacles.
The Juvie Three By Gordon Korman has four main characters Terence, Arjay,

Marketing to Develop a Country
Japan is America s fourth largest buyer of products. One thing that is very
noticeable of the Japanese people is their love for technology, culture, and nice

if a small business were extending across the waters. In terms of what will be sold, I
would look into selling vehicle parts to mechanics and car fanatics such as turbos,
struts, rims, car designs, decals, engines, etc. Japanese are some of the biggest names
in drifting and racing when it comes to custom made cars and I think this would
definitely thrive in this country. With the many different organizations that purchase

marketing a product, it is more convenient and possibly more cost efficient to
increase awareness and purchasing online. Of course, with the kinds of products
and shipments we will be offering, we will have options to purchase the type of
shipping, different types or makes of the same product, and security per product
shipment, product, and customer information available. We would also have the

including the Korean and Japanese markets since these are small things that could
affect business. A large part of the world only speak one language but we have to
cater to our main markets and make sure that the customer service they receive is
just as good online as it is in person. Most of the bigger decision as far as
commercial and administrative will come directly from the office here in America
but since we are marketing in the Japanese area with a potential to market in the

well. Each country needs to be able to maintain its own production, assembly, and

Essay on The Russian Mob
The Russian Mob: Organized Crime in a Fledgling Democracy
Since the late 1980 s the Russian people have experienced one of the most drastic
transitions seen in the world to date, a transition from an attempt at communism to a
workable capitalist system. As one would expect, this transition has not been painless
and has been the impetus of many distressing problems for the Russian people. One
such problem is organized crime. This paper will explore how organized crime during
Soviet rule and the Russian Federation has created obstacles in this transition to a
functioning market economy. It will illustrate how organized crime has done this by
analyzing its transition from the USSR to the Russian Federation, the reasons behind

This expansion was aided by perestroika s opening up of market opportunities. In
Leningrad, as much as 90% of the cooperatives produced by the liberal policies of
perestroika were deeply involved with organized crime (Anderson, 1995, 352). The
extensiveness of organized crime in the USSR is quite apparent when one examines
such numbers, but the more important question is what was inherent in the USSR
that facilitated such crime and how this later affected organized crime in the Russian
Federation.
Two characteristics of the USSR were integral in the development of a powerful
organized crime syndicate. These were an excessive bureaucratic power and the
presence of illegal markets (Anderson, 1995, 347). This excessive bureaucratic
power facilitated organized crime by providing a basis for corruption, bribery,
shakedowns, and extortion (Anderson, 1995, 346). These were no small problems
either. According to the All Union Research Institute of the Soviet Interior Ministry
in 1991, about half of the income of the average government employee consisted of
bribes (Sterling, 1994, 93). However, the presence of illegal markets was even more
essential to the existence of a mafia in the USSR. Everyone is aware that illegal
markets such as alcohol during the prohibition period or drugs today elicit organized
crime, yet this association was unique in the USSR. In the USSR, every form of
economic transaction that did not involve the government

Why I Want To Study Chemical Engineering
Society needs engineers that can and will change the world. I want to study Chemical
Engineering because of its increasingly significant role in our society, particularly
across a variety of industries from petrochemicals to environmental technology.
Chemical engineering is a branch of engineering that applies physical sciences
(physics and chemistry), life sciences (microbiology and biochemistry), together with
applied mathematics and economics to produce, transform, transport, and properly
use chemicals, materials and energy. It is about making processes and facilities
function more efficiently. In the first paragraph I will be talking about the founder of
Chemical Engineeringand how it started. In the second paragraph I will be talking
about how to be a chemical engineer. In the third paragraph I will be talking about
the history of chemical engineering and I will finish everything off in the last
paragraph.
The founding father of chemical engineering is George E. Davis. He was born in
July 27, 1850 in Eton, United Kingdom and died in 1960 in Birmingham, United
Kingdom. He was the oldest son in his family. Davis studied at the Slough
Mechanics Institute while working at the local gas works, and then spent a year
studying at the Royal School of Mines in London before leaving to work in the
chemical industry around Manchester, which at the time was the main centre of the
chemical industry in the UK. He worked as a chemist and an inspector for three
years. He married
Aqr s Momentum Funds (a) Essays
1. What is a momentum investment strategy? Momentum is the phenomenon that
stocks which have performed well in the past will continue to perform well in the
future, and that stocks which have performed poorly will continue to perform poorly.
Therefore a momentum investment strategy is to invest in short term portfolios that
have high returns in the past, and to short those with low returns over the same
period. 2. Analyze these portfolios. By analyzing monthly returns of all 10 portfolios
from 1927 2012 and 2000 2012, we can see that there is a general pattern that stocks
with higher momentum have higher return, which confirms the momentum strategy.
The average return of stocks with high minus low momentum is a little lower than that

One is that since the ten portfolios are grouped according to their performance,
portfolios are usually made up by similar stocks and thus cannot diversify the risks.
The other is that both skewness and kurtosis have effect on the risk a stock bears
and thus cause the pattern of variance. (Results are shown in Exhibit A) 3. Does
momentum work? In general, we could say that the momentum does work. To
justify whether it works, we first ran a regression on the Three Factor Fama
French Model (Market Excess Return, SMB and HML) from Jan 1972 to Dec
2012 respectively for the High , 5 , Low , and High Minus Low Portfolio. Then, we
added momentum into the model to create a four factor model (Momentum,

The Code SwitchingLanguage Teaching The code switching language taught me a new way to reach my future students on a grammatical level in any part of the state I choose to teach in. Code switching is teaching that informal and formal language is neither incorrect nor correct but which form is appropriate for the situation that the student is in. The method improves grammar and the students grasp on written and spoken English, while not focusing on the students ability to write a correct sentence. While learning about code switching the process reminded me of an urban slang dictionary being used. A code switching lesson consists of four individual lessons to be used in order and repeated if the concept is not grasped. The first lesson is identifying the pattern that is... Learning about dialects was another interesting topic we discussed in class, the topic made me really think deep about what kind of dialect I use in everyday life. Dialects are a specific variation of a language in a particular region or ethic group with individualized phonological features to wide range of groups. A large part of decoding dialects is the understanding of the International Phonetic Alphabet, phonology, and phonemes used in the different areas you might be teaching in. Phonology is the study of sound and phonemes is the smallest unit of sound both are key to use and listen for when in a new region of the country. The International Phonetic Alphabet represents the sounds letters make for a spoken language and when written the word reads as a certain dialect. Lexical features of dialects are the preferred terms of words used in certain dialects with different synonyms used by other dialects. Learning about dialects also taught me how people code switch from home to public settings. I speak a Northern Jersey with a small amount of classic southern mixed into my dialect. Allowing me to understand multiple dialects including Standard English. My stronger northern accent may cause me teaching in areas with a strong southern accent to be a little bit of a struggle with my students and myself.

I employ traditional materials and traditional techniques and, for the most part, I mount and display my works in the traditional scroll format. The Life ofJesus Christ Jesus Christ means numerous things to people: the Son of God, Savior, the Messiah, etc. But many might still not know what happened during Jesus s life. There are numerous stories in the Bible. His story starts in the New Testament, though the prophecies about Him are in the Old Testament. Through the Bible, people have been able to decipher the Messianic prophecies, Jesuss death and resurrection, and Jesus s return. The Messianic Prophecies are prophecies about the Messiah. He will end the dark times, and bring joy (Isaiah 9: 1 7). God will make this possible by giving us Jesus, His Son (Isaiah 9:6). Jesus, who not only is the Son of God, but also God, will bring peace. He will be the king. This will happen because God loves us all so much. God then goes on to talk about how His Son will bring justice, and will not stick out in a crowd (Isaiah 42: 1 7). There was nothing particularly striking about Jesus, in appearance or demeanor (Isaiah 53:2). Because of others suffering, Jesus felt their sadness (Isaiah 53:4). God wanted Jesus to suffer in His life so that humans can be saved; though Jesus never complained. Jesus was the sacrifice. He died for our sins. But He succeeded in what was needed to be done. Afterward, He would have a remarkable spot in heaven (Isaiah 53:11 12). Jesus s death is one of the biggest events in the Bible. Judas, who was one of Jesus s apostles, betrayed Him and gave Him over to the Jews who had been planning to kill Him in exchange for money (Luke

The Science FictionGenre And Genre Essay The science fiction film genre has been around almost as long as movies have, but like the cinema it is still a fairly young art form. This genre came into existence shortly after the invention of the movie camera in 1888 and has endured for over one hundred years. Science fiction is adaptive; it changes with the times and this trend can be seen in its incorporation of other genres, cultural history and technology. This essay will attempt to define the genre, chronicle the history and evolution, and explore its relation to technology. This is in general and in the cinema. When discussing the science fiction film genre a problem occurs. The distinction between science fiction and other genres is not always clear cut. Many movies span between the science fiction genre and other genres. Movies such as The Ring (2002) or the Alien series (1979, 1986, 1992, 1997) illustrate how the distinction between science fiction and horror films can be obscure. (Telotte 46) Some comedies, such as Mars Attacks (1996) and Back to the Future (1985), are very much science fiction. (Mitchell 133) In fact there is an example of a science fiction film fitting into almost any genre. Starship Troopers (1997) parallels a war film and Outland (1981) resembles a western in many respects. (Telotte 45) The characteristics that define the science fiction genre can be difficult to pin down. A genre such as the western has easily identifiable characteristics such as cowboys, guns, the wild west, and bad

What Is TheRole Of Women In The Industrial Revolution The Industrial revolution. Arguably one of the greatest moments in English and global history. A time that had industrialized the whole of England, revolutionized science, government, literature, machinery, and even art. However, despite these evolutionary and forever game changing events, the Industrial Revolution had a dark side. In order for the industrialization of England to be stable and maintained, human hands were required in factories, mills, and mines. From dawn till dusk, men, women, and children engaged in dangerous and hard labour and were paid far below what they deserved for doing so. They were mistreated in a various ways that would cause any civilized human in todays modern age to cringe in astonishment and disbelief. In fact, many historians and philosophers have come... Written by Dickens in 1815, Hard Times attempts to convince readers by illustrating the fact that life during the Industrial Revolution was anything but pleasant for human beings. Centred around Mr. Gradgrind and his moderately sized family, Dickens succeeds at giving the reader a up close and personal view of what it meant to be a father, mother, man, woman, and child during the industrial revolution. Dickens also provides the reader with three central themes: the mechanization of human beings, the conflict of fact versus fantasy, and the significance of the female figure. Dickens set out with a goal in writing this novel to expose the truth on how grim the Industrial Revolution really was for the human race. I therefore think that, through examining various examples sprawled throughout the text in connection to the three themes, there should definitely be enough evidence to conclude that Dickens interpretations of the Industrial Revolution were believably similar and, in a sense, true to what people were faced with during the 18th

From the viewpoint of the reader, Schlosser appeals to the reader using pathos through logos. Schlosser s statements make sense from a business standpoint, a business would want to be as efficient as possible, but in doing so devalues the human life. Summary Of TheFourth Of July By Audre Lorde Fourth Of July The famous Japanese proverb and image of the three wise monkeys see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil is interpreted in the Western world as a refusal to acknowledge the evil that occurs around us. In the autobiography, The Fourth of July, by Audre Lorde, she describes an event in her life in which she experienced racism. Lorde s parents made sure their kids were sheltered from the racism going on in the world and kept them from seeing it. Audre Lorde encounters racism even though her parents tried to hide it from her, which shows how being sheltered from issues in the world can cause greater problems when they are faced. In the beginning, Lorde s parents attempt to hide the racism that exists in America by making up excuses. For example, Lorde reflects on what her mother said to her when she wanted to eat in the dining car, I wanted to eat in the dining car because I had read all about them, but my mother reminded me for the umpteenth time that dining car food always cost too much money . . . My mother never mentioned that black people were not allowed into railroad dining cars headed south in 1947 (240). When Lorde says that her mother reminded her for the umpteenth time, it demonstrates a hyperbole because it s an over exaggeration for the sake of emphasizing that her mother has reminded her many times. Lorde s parents try to protect her from the racism by pretending it doesn t exist, which might be good in the present moment, but when faced with

Dietary Supplements InAmerica Diabetes is a common health condition among many Americans today. As of 2014, 29.1 million people or 9.3 percent of the American population have diabetes and 86 million, or one out of three, Americans have pre diabetes which increases one s risk for developing diabetes1. Since diabetes is a top health concern for a great number of Americans, many are open to integrative practices including dietary supplementation. The Rubik sCube How Architecture found Cubes The Rubik s cube, invented by Erno Rubik, is famously known as the Impossible puzzle. It was during the summer of my 7th grade that I first stumbled upon the Rubik s cube. The Rubik s cube is a cube with different colors on all sides. The goal is to be able to return the original look of the cube, with all the edges and corners corresponding to the center color of each face. People seem to think the cube is made out of 27 cubes, but it is actually made of a core. The other pieces fit in with the core to give the look of multiple cubes grouped together. I remembered the day vividly when I held the glamorous box with the Qi Yi BullFight (Name of the Rubik s Cube) inside. The cube felt special, it was an experience I had never encountered. Perfect. Made with care. I momentarily observed the cube, six sides, all with their beautifully covered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Architecture is the design of a building, just like the bones that make up the structure of a human being, and the way it forms as a basis for a design. The Rubik s cube is the pencil I use for drawing. The pencil is occasionally used, and sometimes, left alone. When I am focused, I can solve my difficulties, calm and controlled. Nevertheless, I can draw my imagination, however hard it maybe. However, when I am inattentive, it seems like a brick wall is stopping me from my solution. Although this pencil may cause me to stress out, it can also encourage me to try harder, and seek out the hidden solution even with the massive brick wall in the way. My love of architecture connects with the cube because solving problems in puzzles is just like thinking through and designing something. In addition, whenever I open my vision to the many designs in the world, it brings me back to the Rubik s cube and architecture. The many designs act like the algorithms in the cube, you sometimes make errors, and you sometimes

What Makes GeorgeWashington A Hero George Washington was our first president and many still say our greatest. First in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen. Legend has it that even as a boy Washington had the great traits of honesty and strength. He hurled a silver dollar all the way across the Potomac River in which now flows through the city that is named after Washington. Even more famous when he was a little boy of six he took his hatchet and he chops his Father s favorite cherry tree. When his dad asked if he had done it Washington replies, I can t tell a lie Pa. I did cut it with my hatchet . Parson Weems wrote these tales after Washington was dead, but he was truly a legend in his own time. He was trained as a surveyor in his youth, and was

Essay about Problemsin Air Traffic Control and Proposed... Problems in Air Traffic Control and Proposed Solutions In northern California this summer, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) unintentionally performed it s first operational test of free flight ; aviation without direct air traffic control. This was an unintentional experiment because it was a result of a total shut down of the Oakland Air Route Traffic Control Center (ARTCC). Although Oakland is only the 16th busiest ARTCC, it s responsible for the largest block of airspace of any ATC facility; 18 million square miles. Oakland directs all upper level flight from San Luis Obispo, California to the California/Oregon boarder, including most Pacific oceanic routes. The failure happened at 7:13 a.m. local time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Flight crews did their own improvising. Some pilots squawked VFR and continued the flight on their own. Others continued on their previously issued clearance, while others climbed into or descended out of Class A airspace without a clearance. Later analysis tells us one of the biggest problems was nobody believed a prolonged outage like this could occur. Both controllers and supervisors worked on the assumption their radar and radios would come back any moment now . The same thought process prevailed at Bay (Oakland) TRACON where operations were paralyzed by the Center s blackout. It s impossible to say how many separation losses occurred during the hour long episode. Some near mid air reports were filed, but the vast majority of separation loss situations will probably go unreported. After power was restored, and the primary radar system was returned to operation, extensive air traffic delays, diversions, and flight cancellations persisted for many hours at Bay area airports, especially departures from San Francisco International. We may never know the full aftermath of this incident. Changes will be made as to how power is fed to ATC facilities, and how maintenance is performed. Contingency plans will be rewritten and controllers will be trained how to implement them. Meanwhile, controllers nation wide are brushing up on their non radar and lost comm procedures. After an extensive investigation, it s now clear why the

Sexual Offenders The purposeof the research paper is to discuss the types of punishments and treatments sexual offenders should receive even though there might not be a cure for it. Introduction Throughout the years of research and experiments, the society has debated whether sexual offending behavior can be cured or not. Although there have been alternatives to decreasing such behavior, there is no direct evidence that such behavior can be completely purged. However, such acts can be prevented from happening by providing treatments and programs that make opportunities unreachable. It is very significant to keep in mind that sexual offenses vary across cultures, religions, nations, and time. Back in the time, the society ignored such offenses due to their

Kitty In Gaitskills Tiny Smiling Daddy In countless family relationships, there is some amount of disconnect between members. This disconnection can sometimes be seen obviously, while other times it can be hidden or imperceptible. In Tiny Smiling Daddy , Gaitskill depicts how people seek intimacy but don t know how to achieve it. During Stew s flashbacks of Kitty as a child, her and Stew were intimate, but as she grew up they separated. Jumping forward in time we see how Stew tries to express his opinions about Kitty, although he doesn t know how to do it politely and respectfully. Looking back at the title, it is a symbol that depicts their relationship. During Stew s flashbacks of Kitty as a child, she and Stew were intimate, but as she grew up they separated. Differences Between StandBy Me And The Goonies There are many 1980 s movies about kids going on adventures, but Stand by Me and The Goonies are two movies that took the idea of the average adventure movie and made it more relatable to many different audiences. They are both about young, outcasted children, primarily boys, going on a life changing adventure with their close friends, but the movies are narrated differently. Stand by Me and The Goonies offer two very different approaches to the classic coming of age genre; the storylines differ greatly because Stand by Me is more serious and realistic, while The Goonies is hilariously unrealistic and more about the fun of the adventure. Specifically the character Chris Chambers, who is a perfect example of an outcast. Because his family has a bad name, he has been labeled as the problem child in the town. Although he has done many bad things, he is blamed for things that he has not done, which makes him relatable to many children. In The Goonies, the kids are relatable in a way but Stand by Me s characters go deeper than that. The Goonies is a hilariously unrealistic movie about a group of young friends searching for a treasure filled pirate ship, setting off many booby traps, and running away from money hungry criminals. In this movie, a group of young boys find a treasure map in an attic and go on an adventure to save their neighborhood from being replaced by a golf course. This expansion was aided by perestroika s opening up of market opportunities. In Leningrad, as much as 90% of the cooperatives produced by the liberal policies of perestroika were deeply involved with organized crime (Anderson, 1995, 352). The extensiveness of organized crime in the USSR is quite apparent when one examines such numbers, but the more important question is what was inherent in the USSR that facilitated such crime and how this later affected organized crime in the Russian Federation. Two characteristics of the USSR were integral in the development of a powerful organized crime syndicate. These were an excessive bureaucratic power and the presence of illegal markets (Anderson, 1995, 347). This excessive bureaucratic power facilitated organized crime by providing a basis for corruption, bribery, shakedowns, and extortion (Anderson, 1995, 346). These were no small problems either. According to the All Union Research Institute of the Soviet Interior Ministry in 1991, about half of the income of the average government employee consisted of bribes (Sterling, 1994, 93). However, the presence of illegal markets was even more essential to the existence of a mafia in the USSR. Everyone is aware that illegal markets such as alcohol during the prohibition period or drugs today elicit organized crime, yet this association was unique in the USSR. Why I WantTo Study Chemical Engineering Society needs engineers that can and will change the world. I want to study Chemical Engineering because of its increasingly significant role in our society, particularly across a variety of industries from petrochemicals to environmental technology. Chemical engineering is a branch of engineering that applies physical sciences (physics and chemistry), life sciences (microbiology and biochemistry), together with applied mathematics and economics to produce, transform, transport, and properly use chemicals, materials and energy. It is about making processes and facilities function more efficiently. In the first paragraph I will be talking about the founder of Chemical Engineeringand how it started. In the second paragraph I will be talking about how to be a chemical engineer. In the third paragraph I will be talking about the history of chemical engineering and I will finish everything off in the last paragraph. The founding father of chemical engineering is George E. Davis. He was born in July 27, 1850 in Eton, United Kingdom and died in 1960 in Birmingham, United Kingdom. He was the oldest son in his family. Davis studied at the Slough Mechanics Institute while working at the local gas works, and then spent a year studying at the Royal School of Mines in London before leaving to work in the chemical industry around Manchester, which at the time was the main centre of the chemical industry in the UK. Aqr s MomentumFunds (a) Essays 1. What is a momentum investment strategy? Momentum is the phenomenon that stocks which have performed well in the past will continue to perform well in the future, and that stocks which have performed poorly will continue to perform poorly. Therefore a momentum investment strategy is to invest in short term portfolios that have high returns in the past, and to short those with low returns over the same period. 2. Analyze these portfolios. By analyzing monthly returns of all 10 portfolios from 1927 2012 and 2000 2012, we can see that there is a general pattern that stocks with higher momentum have higher return, which confirms the momentum strategy. The average return of stocks with high minus low momentum is a little lower than that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One is that since the ten portfolios are grouped according to their performance, portfolios are usually made up by similar stocks and thus cannot diversify the risks. The other is that both skewness and kurtosis have effect on the risk a stock bears and thus cause the pattern of variance. (Results are shown in Exhibit A) 3. Does momentum work? In general, we could say that the momentum does work. To justify whether it works, we first ran a regression on the Three Factor Fama French Model (Market Excess Return, SMB and HML) from Jan 1972 to Dec 2012 respectively for the High , 5 , Low , and High Minus Low Portfolio. Then, we added momentum into the model to create a four factor model (Momentum, Market Excess Return, SMB and HML) for the same period on a monthly basis. (See Exhibit 2). The absolute value of intercept (alpha) in the Three Factor Model for Low Portfolio is 1.1159, 0.1347 for 5 Portfolio, 0.6354 for High Portfolio, and 1.4591 for High Minus Low Portfolio. They all are larger than those in the Four Factor Model, given 0.2081 for Low Portfolio, 0.0961 for 5 Portfolio, 0.0412 for High Portfolio, and 0.0402 for High Minus Low Portfolio. Therefore, alpha, a measurement of deviation from the model, is much smaller in the Four Factor Model than in the Three Factor Model. It shows that the Four Factor Model fits the real situation better. In addition, we could see that R Square (percentage of data that can be explained by the model) for the
