Sample Of Synthesis Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic "Sample of Synthesis Essay" presents its own set of challenges
that require a careful balance of analytical skills, critical thinking, and effective communication.
The synthesis essay genre demands the writer to amalgamate information from diverse sources,
weaving them together to form a cohesive narrative or argument. This involves not only
summarizing individual sources but also synthesizing their ideas to generate new insights.
One difficulty lies in the meticulous selection and integration of relevant sources. It's crucial to
identify materials that not only support the thesis but also offer diverse perspectives to create a
well-rounded synthesis. The process demands thorough research, a discerning eye for credible
sources, and the ability to extract meaningful connections between seemingly disparate
information.
The synthesis essay also requires a sophisticated understanding of the chosen topic. This means
delving into the nuances of each source, recognizing underlying themes, and discerning how
they intersect. The challenge is not only in understanding individual ideas but in identifying the
relationships between them and weaving those connections into a coherent narrative.
Organizing the information in a logical and compelling manner is another hurdle. Ensuring a
smooth flow from one idea to the next, while maintaining clarity and coherence, demands adept
organizational skills. The essay must guide the reader seamlessly through the synthesized
information, making the complex web of ideas accessible and engaging.
Moreover, the synthesis essay challenges the writer to develop a unique perspective or argument
arising from the amalgamation of sources. It's not merely a summary but a creative endeavor to
contribute a new understanding or interpretation. This requires a high level of critical thinking,
analytical prowess, and the ability to draw insightful conclusions.
In conclusion, crafting a synthesis essay on the specified topic demands a blend of research
skills, critical thinking, and effective communication. Successfully navigating through the
complexities of source integration, topic understanding, organizational prowess, and the
generation of original insights is no small feat.

How Sports Influenced Me Research Paper
Athletics and sports have influenced me in many ways over the years. They have
taught me different leadership skills and how to function on a team. These skills
will help me in the future, whether it is in my career or working with other people
on projects. First, sports have influenced my leadership skills. I have learned how to
compromise and how to help others when they are frustrated. Being a member of a
sportmeans that you have to think about others before yourself: I have learned that
from the many athletic activities I ve been involved in. There have been many
instances in sports I have been involved in where athletes get angry at themselves
for a poor performance. They are frustrated with themselves and I have learned how
to step in to try to get them past a bad performance and to look forward to future
competitions.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have been in soccer, cross country, and track during my high school athletic career.
Track has taught me how dependent you are on your teammates. During the relay
races, every second counts in a race, and you have to be able to depend on your
teammates to run a fast time. Also, if my teammates or I run a poor time and lose a
block position, I have learned that I could not show my frustration towards them
because more than likely they feel upset with themselves and don t need any more
pressure. In soccer, I learned how important it is for a team to have good
chemistry. Every soccer player has a different playing. In, soccer some people are
more passing oriented or shooting oriented. Similar, in track some people are more
self oriented versus team oriented, and care about their times and not the team as a
whole. I have learned how to work with my team and how to remain unified and
strong in athletic
The Bodhisattva
Bodhisattva is a sculpture from the region of central Tibet, now displayed in the
Rubin Museum in New York. It is a large scale sculpture, standing at approximately 6
7/8 inches, that was made by craftsmen recruited in Tibet, who were known for their
artistic skills. Bodhisattvas are awakened beings who aspire to attain enlightenment
and help others to achieve it by postponing nirvana and buddhahood. This sculpture is
portrayed in a harmonious and compassionate state. The Bodhisattva is showcased as
a mentor figure, seeking to help others achieve enlightenment, through its pose, facial
expression, and body movement. The pose of the Bodhisattva represents itself
holding itself back, helping assist others to achieve enlightenment before itself,...

The representation of its high class status allows the Bodhisattva to be revered
upon by many to help them grasp their way towards achieving enlightenment.
Probably the most noticeable piece of the sculpture is the lavish jewelry the
Bodhisattva wears. The use of copper enhances the jewelry that adorns its body. It
is wearing a three leaved bejeweled crown and there is the dramatic rendering of
the hair where the strands of braids end in little curls as it rests towards its broad
shoulders. There are insets of precious stones visible on the bejeweled crown, large
earrings, pearl necklace, armbands, and bracelets that are now

Lady Gaga Fame
Exploring Lady Gaga s Possible Reactions to Loss of Fame Fame is a condition
that allows an individual to be known by many people, especially on account of
notable achievements. Fame allows an individual to have super powers in a way
because famous individuals are usually exempt from the rules that govern others
(Smalley McIntosh, 386). Emily Dickinson has described fame precisely by labeling
it as a fickle food , meaning, it is constantly shifting (Smalley McIntosh, 385). In
today s media based society, fame is constantly shifting from one person to another
quickly. Therefore, the constant shifting of fame puts many celebrities in vulnerable
positions after the loss of fame. The article by Smalley and McIntosh explores how

These accomplishments of Lady Gaga suggest that she was dedicated to music
from very early age and focused on it consistently through her life to gain the fame.
Smalley and McIntosh mentioned that due to the nature of cognitive dissonance,
the harder a person works to attain a goal, the more attractive and hence valuable
that goal will be to that individual (p. 395). They further stated that the person
would react more negatively to loss of fame after working hard to be successful (p.
395).On the flip side, Lady Gaga may try to cling to her image of the monster to
receive the attention from the general public and to remain in lime light. Smalley
and McIntosh specify that clinging is usually seen in individuals famous for
representing particular personas. The authors also mention that after the loss of
fame the celebrity finds it difficult or impossible to gain recognition apart from that
role. Thus the celebrity clings to the role, incorporating it into his/her life (Smalley
McIntosh, 388). Click, Lee and Holladay explain that in modern day the term
monster can be applied to individuals who represent deviation from the status quo
(p. 365). Lady Gaga is known for her unique and weird sense of fashion. She has
many times grabbed news headlines just for her choices of costumes beginning from
meat dress costume to blow up metallic star costume and many more. However,
besides her costumes, she has also provided great music and performances which
have contributed to her continuous fame. After the loss of fame Lady Gaga may try
to grab public s attention by continuously presenting herself as a monster. In simpler
terms Lady Gaga may cling to her image of the monster and continually appear in
eccentric costumes to grab public attention and
Chris McCandless is NOT a Hero in the Book, Into the
Wild...
Many people have read the story Into the Wild By Jon Krakauer, when mentioning
the name Chris McCandless he is either viewed as hero or as a dumb man. The
people who view him as a hero tend to believe that he was determined enough to
want to do something. Others view him as an idiot who just wanted attention. Him
being unprepared and not knowing much about how to survive in the wild made
McCandless an idiot, the dumb jerk. Also causing him to be a poor role model to
multiple people causing them to end up in dangerous situations that could be
threatening to their lives.
Having the right supplies for hiking or in Chris s case going out to live in the wild
is critical. Chris was lacking in this category. When Chris was found a few weeks
later in the woods it was evident that he didn t have the food supply he needed to
survive. Matthew Power from Men s Journal The Magazine, brings up the point
that Chris only brought a few things with him, Setting off with little more than a
twenty two caliber rifle and a ten pound bag of rice, McCandless hoped to find his
true self by renouncing society and living off the land. Chris later proved that even
if you intend to live off the land if you are not used to it and living that way it is
going to be extremely hard and may even result in death.
Chris was on a death mission weather he realized it or not. He went into the wild and
is now causing people to unintentionally cause self harm to themselves. Peter

Their company however was a failure and both started to work in animation at the

another start up with another co worker Fred Harman. This time he created an
animation business and started screening cartoon s titled Laugh O Grams in a local
theatre. Following their success, Disney acquired Laugh O Gram studios, which
soon went bankrupt due to Walt s poor financial management. Later that year, Walt
and his Brother Roy opened Disney Brothers Studio in Hollywood, California
(WDFM, 2012). He then started selling his produced cartoons to a New York
distributor that was a huge success. Everything was going well until Disney found
out that his client had hired Walt s animators under contract and took the rights to
his most popular animated characters (Gabler, 2006). Motivation of Startup After
losing everything, Walt and Ubbe decided to create another cartoon character now

fiction novel, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, and the historical fiction novel,
Mississippi Trial, 1955 by Chris Crowe, both share many characteristics. Both novels
take place in the Civil Rights Era American south and revolve around the unjust trial
of an African Americancharacter. By the events that take place in the two novels, a
universal theme is revealed: Changing Attitudes Through Knowledge . Through
common experiences in Southern towns, both Jem and Hiram exhibit similar views
on the treatment of African Americans, experience comparable changes in the way
they view their role model, and are forced to surrender their optimistic attitudes
towards justice and individual integrity. Hiram of Mississippi Trial, 1955 and Jem of
To Kill a Mockingbirdboth show a dislike towards the prejudice and poor treatment
that some people give to African Americans. They do not understand how white
people can treat Negroes with so much contempt and hatred. After the trial of Tom
Robinson, in which a guilty verdict was announced in spite of the utter lack of
incriminating evidence, Jem shows disagreement with the verdict. The outcome
deeply affects him, and he is profoundly afflicted by the injustice of the verdict. Jem

California Prison System
The California prison system was created in response to the increased amount of
criminal activity that sparked during the Gold Rush years. Prior to the Gold Rush,
California had prided itself on being a land of health, beauty, and opportunity
(Bookspan, xviii). However, immigration and population growth surged, especially
amongst foreign convicts and aliens , resulting in increased crime. At first, it was
decided that punishment for small crimes would be a beating by whip while
punishment for serious crimes, like robbery or murder, would be hanging
(Kidport). After becoming a state in 1850, the California governor John McDougal
reacted to this method of punishment by beginning what is known as the California
PrisonSystem. The first prison within California was San Quentin, which began to
receive inmates in 1854, next was Folsom State Prison in 1880, then California
Correctional Institution in 1933, California Institution for Men in 1941, and
California Institute for Women in 1952 as well as multiple California state prisons
that have opened since then in cities such as San Diego, Sacramento, Chowchilla,
Avenal, Corcoran, Susanville, Vacaville, Crescent City, and many more (California
Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation). The early California prison systems
were very much influenced by the Auburn prison system, from the Auburn
Correctional Facility in Auburn, New York. This system imposed solitary
confinement to silence prisoners and promote meditations, but still
Controversy Over The Logging Industry In Canada
In Canada, there are many controversies over the logging industry. Logging is one
of Canada s major industries, as it supplies countries all over the world. Wood is
one of the most used materials in society. There are many reasons why logging is
controversial. People all across the world rely on Canada for it s logging industry to
build buildings, houses, and is used in everyday materials. However trees benefit the
ecosystem in Canadaand all across the world. Trees can be used in our environment
to benefit the forestryaround us.
Trees are known to be the biggest plant in the world. In Canada, a vast majority of
trees grow in the West Coast Forest Region. This region is the most productive

Although cutting down trees may harm our environment, there are many reasons why
cutting trees in Canada is a good idea and can benefit our economy. Some of those
reasons include Canada generates billions of dollars each year through the logging
industry. Deforestation makes a solid income source for the government of Canada.
Over 190 658 people are able to work jobs because of the industry. Many people are
currently dependent on logging to be able to work. The logging industry, also
generates billions of dollars due to pulp and paper. There are over 50 mills in
Canada for people to be able to work at. Another reason why Canada should be
cutting trees down is due to the safety of others. When trees become old and die,
they become unstable and cannot handle natural problems like wind, and storms.
This can turn into a hazard to the general public. The trees are able to fall easily
and can possibly hurt a pedestrian near by. Diseased trees are also a reason why
Canada should be cutting down their trees. If diseased trees are not treated
properly, the disease can spread to other trees which then are not able to be used
for production. Many people challenge deforestation , the logging industry, and
pulp and paper in Canada. However Canada generates billions of dollars, and people
are highly dependent on materials produced from wood and would be hard to
replace due to the reliance we have on the logging
The Famine In Somalia
History always repeats itself now it s Somalia s turn.
The United States should be involved in the famine in Somalia by not only sending,
food, water and money, but also ways to clean and purify their own water.
Famine is something that is not very common. It is a widespread and extreme
scarcity of food. According to the United Nations, more than two people per
10,000 die each day, acute malnutrition rates are above 30 percent, all livestock is
dead and there is less than 2,100 kilocalories of food and 4 liters of water available
per person per day (LeGagnoux,Borgen Project ), confirming that Somalia is in fact
suffering through a famine.

Rare. It s pretty simple, before the United States sends the money to Somalia, they
should use to buy food and water purifiers. Non perishable foods are very easy to
send, if an ordinary person can do the United States government should be able to
too. Social Media star, Jerome Jarre with the help of all his fans was able to send a
whole plane filled with food to Somalia. People are dying in Somalia right now
that need our help. There s an impending famine because of drought, politics,
inaction in NGOs and lack of media attention (Karangu, USA Today). Water
Purifiers are very easy to make and cheap to buy. In fact, designing your own water

Miss Emily Questions
In William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily, the elderly woman is mysterious,
suspicious, and a murderer. Throughout the story the narrator talks a little about
Emily s back story but the narrator does go as far as telling about her child hood
growing up but instead talks about her life from the time she is a young adult until
she is an elder. We start to see that there are some unanswered questions throughout
the entire story, and even with the surprise ending it still leaves us with a lot of
questions that need to be answered. Since the narrator didn t give that much of a
backstory regarding Miss Emily, we must come up with theories and conclusions
to answer our own questions. First, we see that Miss Emily is mysterious even
from the very beginning because the narrator talks about how her house used to
be, white, decorated with cupolas, and spires, and scrolled balconies . By the way
the narrator describes her house it seems that it used to be very beautiful and full
of life, but now the, garages and cotton gins had encroached and obliterated . The
narrator mentions in the story is that Miss Emily had a manservant; we start to ask
ourselves the question that if she has a servant to wait on her hand and foot than
how could she let her house get in such a bad shape like that when she could have
asked her servant to keep the house tidy since she is too old to do it herself. Another
thing that is mysterious is that the narrator mentions that she hardly ever leaves her
house
Essay on Medieval Weapons
Medieval Weapons
Medieval society, in spite of its stereotypes, was not inherently more violent than
modern society. Although there was no state in the modern sense, and therefore no
set of laws that inherently took away the power of the average man or woman to
exercise violence, the violence of the day was considered differently, and with out the
inherent sense of criminality that accompanies it today. Our understanding of the
weapons of the medieval world is skewed by the vast disarming of the the civilian
that is taken for granted today, yet is a vastly different situation compared to what
existed in many parts of the West as little as seven years ago.

By the fourteenth century, improvements in the range and power of the crossbow
had made it an indispensable tool of war, and arguably the weapon of the cites and
the seas. Time and time again in the Crusades, the crossbow, and not force of the
knight in mГЄlГ©e, proved the decisive factor. However, although mounted
crossbowmen were used extensively in Spain, crossbowmen could not maneuver
quickly while shooting, and this meant that they were vulnerable while used, for

Perhaps paradoxically, the cavalry charge became more and more decisive as factors
and the battlefield arose that challenged it. The additional weight of heavier armor
that would resist crossbow bolts and, in northwest Europe, longbow arrows
provided additional power for breaking formations. It was an ongoing spiral of
offense and defense as relatively light mail gave way to heavy mail, and then mail
with pieces of plate, and finally to the knight in full suits of plate armor. Just as
archers and pole arm equipped infantry had to adjust to increasingly heavy armor of

virus that is primarily transmitted through a bite of an infected Aedes mosquito.
Though the incubation period of Zika is not clear, it is estimated to be around 2 7

Symptomatic signs of the disease are mild fever, skin rashes, malaise, conjunctivitis

Persuasive Essay Examples
When faced with hardships in life, a person is often given two choices, to either
give up or persevere. Many people who are faced with these choices choose to give
up, these people never got to live life to their full potential. If they would have
persevered then they would have eventually overcame their challenge and been
able to move on from it. If a person does not persevere they will never be able to
move on and will always be ok with where they are at and never grow. This is why
a person should persevere, but what exactly is a person who perseveres? In the
dictionary, perseverance is defined as a, steady persistence in a course of action, a
purpose, a state, etc., especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement.

By persevering they will continue to become better instead of staying where they are
at, scared to continue the new skill or play. In nonfiction literature, authors talk
about the theme perseverance. In the article, Warriors Don t Cry, all of the kids are
demonstrating perseverance everyday they go to school. They know that many
people are against them and they will have to go through both emotional and
physical hurt but they push through and go anyways so eventually things will get
better. In the article, I am Malala, she shows perseverance by continuing to go to
school even though the threats she has received. She is afraid but this does not stop
her, she still speaks out and goes to school so eventually she can make a change. In
the book, The Year we Disappeared, everyone in their familyis showing
perseverance. Their dad gets shot, and this affects everyone s life. They are now
afraid everyday and under protection, not able to live a normal life. But this did not
stop them to live a happy life, they moved somewhere where they could go to
school and work feeling safe. Authors use nonfiction literature to persuade their
reader to persevere when they are faced with challenges in life, rather than give up.
The article, Warriors Don t Cry, teaches a person to persevere and face their

Essay on An Evaluation of Grease
An Evaluation of Grease
My film that I choose was Grease because it contains music, dancing and humor. It
is a cross between comedy and teen movies. It is a tribute to the Broadway show of
the 1950 s. It was directed by Randal Klieser and was released on July 7th 1978. The
music and dance scenes are what attracted me to Grease. My favorite characters are
John Travolta and Jeff Conaway who play Danny and Kenickie. I like these two
because they are your typical high school popular boys who are always looking out
for each other, looking good and they are always trying to get the beautiful girls but
at the same time acting cool like it doesn t bother them. I had high expectations of

Secondly genre is the French word meaning type. Genres may be approached by
way of various critical avenues. In the Aristotelian strain we recognize genres as
kinds within a system of classification. These categories beg further definition, so
there is a history of, on the one hand, the refinement of divisions and subdivisions,
and on the other a Platonic search for the essential qualities of tragedy, comedy, epic
poetry, and so forth. By the recognition of genres we begin to find our way in the
universe of verbal artifacts with their feigned discourses, and to train our
expectations upon the experience that lies in wait for us. Grease s genre is a hybrid
genre because it is a cross between a comedy, a teen movie and romantic.
Lastly representation is the act of representing or the state of being represented.
Also it is something that represents an image, an account or statement, an
expostulation or a presentation or production. For example the representation of the
characters in Grease varies. Sandy is portrayed as a pure and innocent girl but on
the other hand Rizzo is portrayed as a bad girl who is always getting into trouble
and won t take anything from no one. Also Rizzo is sometimes mean to Sandy
Origins of Marijuana Laws in The United States Essay
A great many of today s citizens erroneously believe that the criminalization of
marijuana came into effect as a result of research conducted with due diligence by
trained scientists and physicians. The true reasons behind the criminalization of
marijuana had little to do with the supposed harmful effects from its use as a
recreational drug and much more to do with the financial bottom line of the
entrenched industrial complex of this country. The leading advocates of the campaign
to ban the use of marijuana were influential businessmen which held huge stakes in
paper, pharmaceutical, and petrochemical industries. Their interest in promoting the
criminalization of marijuana did not stem from an overwhelming concern for public
health, but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A short list of the many uses of this versatile plant during this era included paper,
canvas, and most notably rope. As technology progressed the uses for the plant
expanded as well. In the early twentieth century it was used in the production of the
earliest plastics and gasoline. The first Ford Model T s ran on hemp gas and many of
the car s parts were made from hemp fibers which had an impact strength ten times
stronger than steel according to a Popular Mechanics article in 1941. The US
government in 1916 predicted that by the 1940s all paper produced in this country
would be made from hemp fiber and in its February 1938 issue touted hemp as the
world s first billion dollar crop . From an environmental standpoint besides the
important fact hemp grows in a single growing season, while it takes an entire
generation to grow trees. It takes far fewer chemicals and thus creates much less
pollution to make paper from hemp than from tree pulp. Hemp grows very fast and
tall and will choke out all other plants in the area including weeds so the use of
herbicides really isn t required. Oil derived from the seeds of the plant can
profitably be used in the production of paints and varnishes. The seeds are also quite
healthy, containing all eight essential amino acids and are an excellent source of
protein.(1)

Who Is To Blame For The Misfortune Of Romeo And Juliet
The Misfortune of Romeo and Juliet
Who really was to blame in Romeo and Juliet? The play The Tragedy of Romeo and
Juliet was written in 1595 by the English poet, William Shakespeare. The main
characters include Romeo, Juliet, Tybalt, The Friar, Lord and Lady Montague, Lord
and Lady Capulet, the Nurse, the Prince, Mercutio, and Benvolio. In the play, Romeo
thinks he is in love with Rosaline who does not love him back and so to get his
mind off of it, Mercutio and Benvolio take him to Lord Capulet s party. At the
party, Romeo and Lord Capulet s daughter fall in love and plan to get married.
They get married but since Tybalt kills Mercutio, Romeo has no choice but to kill
him. Romeo gets banished from Verona and so he can no longer be with Juliet. Due
to a few mishaps with the Friar, Romeo thinks Juliet is dead and goes to her tomb to
drink poison and die with her but Juliet awakes just after Romeo drank the poison.
When Juliet realizes what happened, she kills herself. Many characters contributed to

Most of migrations from developing countries are those wealthy or skilled people,
whose leaving results in brain drain and slow development of home countries. This
contributes to a vicious circle for developing countries (low income countries). On the
other side, the advantaged social environment (rich opportunities, comparatively good
political system, developed economy, better living conditions, etc) in developed
countries attract talents from other areas, which contribute to brain grain, and finally
forms a virtuous circle. * Concept and Magnitude of Brain Drain Migration of
people as a phenomenon differs from country to country and from time to time. It is
misleading to generalise about the possible effects of migration from LDCs. But even
more fundamentally, one can argue that different studies are measuring differing
things. All migrations cannot be justifiably brought within a single analytic umbrella,
though it has been so done in the contemporary literature on the subject. Migration
of HQM from LDCs may be due to several different sets of underlying social,
political and economic forces. The phenomenon of migration of high quality
manpower can justify the use of the expression on the term brain drain , but one has
to be cautious in using the expression drain indiscriminately. To replace drain by a
What It Means To Be Proud Of Place In The United States
I like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives. I like to see a man live so
that his place will be proud of him. That is a quote from Abraham Lincoln and it is
a forgotten concept in our culture today. Too many people today feel that they are
entitled to something, and are asking, What is the country doing for me, instead of,
What am I doing for my country? . We have a responsibility to our country to obey
her laws, vote for her leaders, and do what is right, not according to the majority
populous, but what has been commanded to me by my God.
It s our responsibility to keep America s laws. What does this entail? As a Christian
trying to answer this question, I first look to God and His Word. The Apostle Paul
commands us in Romans 13:1, Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers.
For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. This
means that we are to submit to our government because God has ordained it.
Submission has been tabooed in our culture. Culture teaches us from a young age
that we are not to submit but do what our heart tells us. I can not tell you how
dangerous this type of thinking is. Jeremiah 17:9 says, The heart is deceitful above
all things, and desperately wicked. Instead of following our own desires, we are to
be held accountable. We are not to simply acquiesce ... Show more content on

How do we do so? Everybody has a different definition than others, but the basics
should remain the same. We are to respect our leaders. I do not agree with all the
politicians today, but regardless I should respect them. Those men and women have

Saul feared him and tried to kill him. God had already appointed David to become

The Tempest, By William Shakespeare
On first glance, Forbidden Planet can easily be seen to parallel many other
works relating to technology, nature, or both. One of the most obvious
parallels is, of course, to Shakespeare s The Tempest, the story of a man
stranded on an island which he has single handedly brought under his control
through the use of magic. Indeed, the characters, plot, and lesson of Forbidden
Planet mirror almost exactly those of The Tempest, with the exception that where
The Tempest employs magic, Forbidden Planetutilizes technology. At this point,
it is useful to recall one of Arthur C. Clarke s more famous ideas, which is
that any technology, when sufficiently advanced, is indistinguishable from magic.
Indeed, the technology presented in Forbidden Planet is not meant to be
understood by the audience, but rather is, for all intents and purposes, magic.
This is undoubtedly in part because the technology doesn t exist and therefore
cannot be explained to us. What is more important, however, is that how the
technology works is irrelevant for the purpose of the movie, which is to
entertain and to teach us a lesson about man s control over the elements and
over his own technological creations.
At this point a brief synopsis of the movie would seem to be in order,
with special attention as to how it relates to The Tempest.
In The Tempest, a man named Prospero and his daughter Miranda have been
exiled to a remote island which is completely
Skeletal Muscle Movement
Without the skeletal muscle in our body, we would be stick people; we would have
no movement. Almost all of the movement in our body is a result of muscle
contraction. Did you know that the skeletal muscle makes up 40% of someone s body
weight, and it forms more than 600 muscles. The muscles allow us to frown, laugh,
smile and express many other emotions. But, the most important functions of the
muscular system are movement, posture, joint stability and heat production. There
are also three major different types of musclein the body: skeletal, smooth, and
cardiac. They all play an important role in maintaining homeostasis.
Skeletal muscle is what is attached to our skeleton, by tendons. It s the most
common out of the three types of muscle in the body. It is considered a voluntary
muscle because we have direct control of moving them because of nervous impulses
sent from our brain. There are different types of fibers within skeletal muscle, and
not all of them contract the same. It varies depending on the type of activity and
they vary in color depending on the Myoglobin content. The skeletal muscle has a
very distinctive appearance. It s long and thin, with fine red and white lines. The

They also form the supporting tissue for blood vessels. It is known as smooth muscle
because it doesn t have the microscopic lines, or striations, like the other two types of
muscle. It consists of narrow spindle shaped cells, and is smooth; hence its name. It is
mainly used to help things move. For example, smooth muscle in the uterus helps a
woman push the baby out. Also, smooth muscle helps food move through the
digestive tract. It is known as involuntary muscle, due to our inability to control its
movement. Such as the heart, it s an involuntary muscle. We can t control the

Healthsouth Theoretical Model Of Fraud
I. Theoretical Model of Fraud A. Appropriate Fraud Model The best theoretical model
of fraud to describe why HealthSouth committed fraud is the fraud diamond not the
fraud triangle. Both methods require that these three elements are present for
committing fraud: perceived pressure, perceived opportunity, and rationalization.
Understanding what motivated HealthSouth s Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Richard Scrushy to commit fraud, how the accounting staff committed and concealed
the fraud, and how the staff justified their participation are crucial. However, anti
fraud professionals believe that changes in social behavior require the addition of a
fourth element called capability. Capability includes personal traits and abilities that
play a major role in whether fraud will actually occur (Fighting Fraud in the
Government n.d.). For example, Scrushy s persuasiveness and Cathy Edward s
position as Michael Vines boss increased their capabilities to commit fraud. If capable
employees refused to participate, fraud occurrences decrease (Fighting Fraud in the
Government n.d.) (Hamilton n.d.). B. Fraud Scheme Committing fraud requires
motivation from perceived pressures like greed or meeting expectations. With the
shift in investor focus and the need to meet analyst expectations, Scrushy and the
family manipulated earnings to make HealthSouth appear more successful. Perceived
opportunity establishes how an individual s position enables fraud to be committed

Perspective Somali population is filled with large groups of nomads and refugees
seeking security away from the clans and famine. Due to all the movement it is
difficult to estimate the population accurately. The last know official count was
gathered by the Somali Government in 1975. Today, the best estimate that takes
the 1975 data in account illustrates the population at approximately 10 million
people. (CIA, 2012). The average life expectancy for males is 48 years and women
are only slight greater at 52 years. Compared to the United States average life
expectancy of 78, it is fair to say the Somali have a difficult and short life. While
living, it is impossible to find work. Jobs are scarce and tend to rely on livestock or
farming. However, even farming has been increasingly impossible since global trade
has imported foreign agriculture that under cuts domestic farmers. This import
presents a burden for the Somali people because they
Identity, Authenticity and Survival Essay
Formative Writing I : Identity, Authenticity and Survival by Kandru Manibhushan
Rao Kwame Anthony Appiah s essay on Identity, Authenticity and Survival is based
on Charles Taylor s earlier work on recognition and identity. Though Taylor s
references to identity are mostly to collective identity, Appiah s aim is to draw a
comparison or even find a connection between individual identity and collective
identity. Identity A collective identity, explains Appiah, is the way an individual is
recognized based on broad qualities of categorization such as gender, religion,
ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc. Whereas individual identity is born from personal
characteristics such as wit, charm, grace,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
* Individual Dimension: This comprises of traits such as intelligence, charm, wit,
cupidity, etc. which are all socially important features. Authenticity Authenticity, as
described by authors such as Lionel Trilling and Charles Taylor is the idea of living
one s life by one s own reference and for one s own self without yearning for
recognition or acceptance from the collective or society. However, Appiah points out
that the search for authenticity is somewhat a paradoxical one. The search for
authenticity, as said, goes as much against the demands for a prescribed social life as
it does for the recognition of one s real self. There are two layer for recognition of
originality/authenticity: * How a person identifies or recognizes himself among other
people. * How a culture bearing group (minority) recognizes itself among a larger
group. This leg of Appiah s essay focuses extensively on Trilling s contradictory
statements on authenticity. Claiming one s authentic ethnicity, for example, for the
need of expressing one s originality in turn proves one s need for social
acknowledgement for such originality. Even counterconventionalism requires needs
recognition from conventionalist. The problem that arises here is, in order to be
original, an individual has to understand convention and being everything that it is
not, thus resulting in the individual being not authentic,
Catfishing Research Paper
Meta: Learn if the person you ve been talking to on social media is really who they
claim to be. Don t let yourself be duped by catfishing. Hire an investigator to help.
Article:
It might be surprising to learn that inmates in prison are allowed to email and text
with others on platforms like Facebook, Twitter and through email providers that
service the prison system. There are more and more people meeting online and
making a connection, which leaves people ripe for being deceived by people who are
misrepresenting themselves.
Catfishing: What is It?

In cases like that, the investigator will give you the information they ve uncovered,

Catfishers Commit Fraud
Investigators can use a variety of equipment to search for someone online, find out if
they re in prison, learn where they live and if they re married or put them under
surveillance. If the catfisher has committed fraud or identity theft, the private
investigator can turn that information over to the police who will conduct their own
investigation that can lead to the person being arrested.
The investigator will use a variety of tools to learn all the information they can about
the fraudster including monitoring systems and in person surveillance using spy
glasses or spy cams. The lengths that the investigators goes to will depend on the
client s desires.
It s unfortunate when a person believes they re meeting someone online and feels an
incredible connection with them only to find out that they re lying. It s better to
know the truth than to be deceived. A private investigator can find out more about
the person you re talking to online if you have
Essay on Ambient Air Pollution and Diabetes Mellitus
I.Introduction and Purpose
Diabetes mellitus, or simply diabetes, is a disorder in which the body is incapable
of fully utilizing converted energy taken from food. There are three types of
diabetes: type 1 or insulin dependent, type 2 or adult on set, and gestational diabetes
(Webmd.com, 2014).
According to the American Diabetes Association, in 2011 there were approximately
25.8 million cases of diabetes in the United States, 7 million of which were
undiagnosed, and an estimated 79 million cases of prediabetes (American Diabetes
Association, 2014). They also report that diagnosed cases of diabetes cost the United
States nearly $250 billion in 2012 (American Diabetes Association, 2014). With such
a high prevalence of cases as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Search criteria were limited to air pollution and diabetes mellitus. All original study
reports as well as study reviews were garnered in this manner. Basic factual and
statistical information about diabetes was found on the WebMD and American
Diabetes Association websites.
III.Studies Three studies found evidence supporting a link between diabetes risk and
elevated levels of air pollution (Chen Burnett et al., 2013; Pearson Bachireddy et al.,
2010; Xu Liu et al., 2011). Xu Liu et al. utilized an experimental design in which they
studied the effect of elevated particulate matter (PM2.5) in mice and their
corresponding blood glucose and insulin measures. Pearson Bachireddy et al. and
Chen Burnett et al. both conducted epidemiological studies in which they looked at
diabetes prevalence in the United States and Canada, respectively, and compared the
data against air particulate matter levels.
In the study conducted by Xu Liu et al., four week old, male mice were randomly
assigned into one of two groups: a control group and an experimental group. Both
groups were fed identical diets and treated in identical manners. The control group,
referred to as FA, was exposed to filtered air for six hours a day, five days a week for
a total of 30 hours. The experimental group, referred to as PM2.5, was exposed to air
containing elevated PM2.5 in the same manner for a total of 30 hours a week. For

Comparing the Personalities and Values of Steve Jobs and...
How did Jobs early years, prior to Apple, influence his view about human nature,
work, and assumptions about employees? Please provide specific examples that
support your answer. Jobs early years, prior to Apple influenced his view of life.
Concerning human nature, Jobs believed that human being were spiritual beings. It is
ones responsibility to find the inner spirit, be enlightened to attain inner peace this
enhanced personal growth. He believed that unless one did this, they would be
controlled by their circumstances, the situation in which they found themselves. One
is able to take control of their thought process and view of life. He realized that an
intuitive understanding and consciousness was more significant than abstract
thinking and intellectual logical analysis, (Issacson, 2011, p. 37). His trip to India
magnified this perception as he realized that people in Indian countryside did not use
their intellect as those in the America, instead they used their intuition. He
considered intuition as more powerful than intellect. Steve Jobs early experiences at
his father s garage informed his attitude towards work. To him the key reasons for
work were to get money, adventure, it had to be interesting. He had an attitude that
he could do anything, there was nothing like no in his work vocabulary. What caught
his eye while searching for his first jobs was the Have fun, make money,

Technological Advancements In Criminal Investigations
If this study was conducted today I believe that the conclusions would be somewhat
the same as the findings back then. With the technological advancements of cell
phones, Global Positioning Systems, the 911 system and computers today, police
response times have been greatly reduced. This allows for the greater possibility of
capturing an offender at or nearby the scene. This also allows for not only police
response times to be decreased but also response times for other first responders that
provide lifesaving first aid. With the advancements in forensics the greater chance of
catching a criminal after the fact has been greatly improved which allows for the
police to be more reactive when a crimehas finally been discovered. With police
departments designing precincts in a more efficient manner and utilizing Intelligence
Led Policing, Predictive Policing or Compstat to properly allocate resources
provides for preventative patrols to be accomplished while also being able to be
reactive in nature.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the time when the study was completed, criminals were in fear of the police
capturing them during the commission of a crime. However today, criminals are
much more brazen in committing crimes even with police presence. With the ease
for criminals to obtain a firearm, many more criminals possess a firearm during the
commission of crimes and are not afraid to use that firearm against police. Even
though preventative patrols are still being accomplished in policing today, the
findings of the study that preventative patrols do not reduce the amount of criminal
activity would be much the same as back
Bone Age Analysis Essay
Abstract
Image processing has been widely used in medical research over the past few
decades. Estimation of age is one of the emerging topic in medical imaging. Bone
age assessment (BAA) is an automated process to evaluating the level of skeletal
maturation in children. Based on a radiological examination of skeletal development
of left hand wrist with atlas, the bone age is assessed and then compared with the
chronological age (CA). A difference between these two values indicate abnormalities
in the skeletal development. Manual methods of BAA are time consuming. This
paper deals with the implementation and analysis of different segmentation
techniques that can be used for extract different bones in the wrist like distal, middle
, proximal, radius and ulna. Keywords :

I . Introduction
The assessment of the skeletal maturity or bone age is an important step in
diagnostic, to estimate the growth disorders of children and even genetic disorders.
Bone development is influenced by a number of factors, including nutrition, hormonal

These measurements may vary from scientist to scientist and from observation to
observation. The manual measurements may lead to errors also time consuming
processes. There is no standard clinical procedure in bone age assessment, even if
the most used methods are: 1) The Greulich and Pyle (G P) method [10]. 2) The
Tanner and Whitehouse method [12]. Both methods rely on X Ray images. The
Tanner Whitehouse method, instead of considering the hand as a whole as in the
G P method, uses a set of bones, whose standard maturity varies according to age
population and this makes the TW method less affected by the variability of the
analysis performed by the operator. Bone age assessment (BAA) is performed
usually by comparing an X ray of left hand wrist with an atlas of known sample
bones. The system overview is as shown in
Women s Rights, Equality, And Opportunities
Equality. The state of being equal, especially in status, rights, and opportunities. A
simple concept yet so hard to achieve between sexes. Throughout history women
have always been the minority and marginalized. They were thought of only being a
caregiver, that could not exemplify the same work ethic men did. Women were and
still are neglected the same rights men have. Since times have evolved women have
fought for the rights they have. Yet even in the year 2015, men are still considered to
be the superiority. Women are still denied the equality due to their gender.
Ever since the creation of religion women have been considered objects, that they
are made to bear the child and serve the husband. Biblical views were very
prominent in the formation of America and in today s society. You shall not covet
your neighbor s house, you shall not covet your neighbor s wife, or his male slave,
his female slave, his ox, his donkey or anything which belongs to your neighbor
(Exodus 20:17; Deuteronomy 5:21). In this section of the bible women are
considered property. Women are humans just like men and deserve to be treated as an
equal. Religion is one of the most common things taught as a child and by
demonstrating the sexist views. It teaches the new generations that women are not
people but objects to be owned.Due to these point of views men believe that they are
superior and that women should praise them. Religion one of the most followed
viewpoints since human existence

Sitting on the couch, four year old Gia was enraptured by the Disney movie playing

Honey, you already are my princess, her mom tenderly replied.
But I wanna live in a big castle and wear pretty dresses like the one Kaitlyn bought!
Gia squealed, while pointing at her big sister on the other couch.
One day you will get your chance to Gia, Kaitlyn replied. The dress Gia was talking
about was Kaitlyn s senior prom dress, which she had just bought that morning. A
long maroon ball gown, the dress was everything Kaitlyn had dreamed of at her
younger sister s age. Although the harsh reality of life had taught Kaitlyn that she

Positive Effects Of Fracking
Fracking is a shorter form of Hydraulic Fracturing which is the extraction process
of both natural gas and oil. The process involves drilling deep into the Earth s
surface. Fractures are then created by pumping large quantities of fluids at high
pressure down a welfare and into the target rock formation (EPA, 2016). After
making these openings for the gas or oil to come up (known as flowback ) the
materials can be stored. The reason the fracking process occurs is because more
usual methods of extraction may not be able to fully reach the deposits of shale
gas and oil (2015). Although the process of Fracking seems reasonable because it
is something we use in our daily lives for cooking food, heating homes, and
amongst other things, the question remains whether it is an actual positive or
negative to not only us (not even a question) but to the environment? When
looking at the pro side one main reason would be the additional access to gas and oil
fracking would give us since many scientists believe we only had a few years left to
use fossil fuels before they ran out (2015). The second positive effect for us would be
the lowering of taxes. With more accessibility to gas and oil it wouldn t be such a
demand allowing gas for cooking to lower as well as petroleumfor cars. Lastly, it can

what fracking issues can arise between nations for those who may become
dependent on us. Overall fracking is a big investment of not only water but the
health of its employees as well as the people surrounded where fracking is being taken
Calpurnia Discrimination Quotes
Cry about the hell white people give coloured folks (Lee pg 170) stated Mr.Radley
to Scout, Jem and Dill. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee focuses
on the main theme of racism. During the 1930 s racism played a huge role in
society for African Americans who faced discrimination and segregation. The
common occurrence of this theme is expressed throughout relations with
individuals, societal discrimination and law injustice for blacks. Racism can and
does impacts the relationships with individuals whether it is an employee, close
friend or a family member. A white upper class family, the Finch s, consisted of a
father, Atticus, and two kids, Jem and Scout. The family also employed a black
woman named Calpurnia, as a housekeeper to raise the kids, but she had always
felt like family. Aunt Alexandra, on the other hand, did not feel the same way
about Calpurnia; she did not believe a black woman should raise white children.
She mistreated and discriminated Calpurnia. As Alexandra arrived, her first words

Galileo s Accomplishments
All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered, the point is to discover
them. Galileo.
A mathematician, a physicist, a philosopher, an astronomer Galileo Galilei. Known
for many thing, he is known for the creation of the optical telescope, discovered the
primary moons of Jupiter, and last but not least defending the idea several years
after Kepler calculated the path of planets (Redd, 2012). Galileo has done many
positive things for the world , and his knowledge lives on through astronomy studies
all around the globe.

his most known inventions is the telescope. Galileo learned the art of lens grinding,
after the discovery of an instrument found in the netherlands. The instrument was able
to make distant objects appear closer and it made galileo want to master the secret
invention. Thus, mastering the telescope, Galileo uses the telescope to see the moon
has craters in it. He figured how to make the telescope magnify up to 20 times. It was
him who discovered the moons revolving around jupiter. Or even saturn not having

The Grand Inquisitor By Dostoevsky
In the novel The Grand Inquisitor , Dostoevsky tells the story of a conversation
between two brothers, Ivan and Alyosha. In the chapter The Grand Inquisitor , we
see the arrival of Christ to the city of Seville, Spain. Christ walks through the
streets of Seville performing miracles on the sick. His miracles and healing are
interrupted by the cardinal, who goes by the name of the Grand Inquisitor. Days
before Christ s arrival, the cardinal called out that all the Christians are burned and
killed because of their questioning of Christianity. The Grand Inquisitor demands
that Christ be arrested by the guards to be put in prison. The Grand Inquisitor goes
to the prison to visit him but Christ speaks no words to cardinal. The Cardinal
expected him to say nothing to him because he already knew what he was going to
say. The Grand Inquisitor accuses Christ for giving free will and rejecting... Show

Even though the free will that he gave us caused great suffering, it was also a good
thing for people. Free will gave people the freedom to do whatever they pleased
without being told to do something or not to do something. The Grand Inquisitor
was not a big fan of free will since he believes that it brought nothing but bad things
and caused suffering. In my opinion, I would rather suffer than have no freedom
because suffering can bring us closer to the Church. With having no free will, it
leaves us with no opinion or freedom to exercise our beliefs. One of the major
themes in the Grand Inquisitor is suffering. Ivan tells the story of the sufferings of
innocent children. Some examples of the suffering are the the little girl whom her
father enjoys beating and the boy who is torn to piece by dogs. The people could not
function without Christ, so part of the suffering was there fault and the violence was

Othello, By William Shakespeare
Iago is a Machiavellian villain , someone who is intent on realizing his desires at all
costs and seeks to achieve this in a deceptive manner. To achieve his goals, he utilizes
characters around him to carry out his plans without them realizing. His main purpose
in Othello is to entrap and deceive the hero.
In this scene we discover Iago s hate towards Othello and his motives to ruin him;
one of them being Othello s recent promotion of Michael Cassio to the post of
lieutenant. In spite of Iago s service in battle and the recommendation from the
three great ones of the city , Othello chose to give the position to a Florentine that
never set a squadron in the field . Iago only follows Othello to serve my turn upon
him . Iago is shown to be looking out for his own self interest whilst pretending to
serve Othello. Thus revealing his capacity to hide his feelings and motives so that his
actions don t reveal them.
The opening scene establishes honest Iago as a character who possesses a Janus face
which simultaneously makes him the most faithful of friends and the most deadly of
enemies. His poisonous cleverness allows him to manipulate those around him by
exploiting their finer qualities, which he holds in contempt. He is a real villain
whose dramatic persona of manifest hypocrisy draws the audience towards him even
as he repels them.
His manipulation of the situation between Roderigo and Brabantio demonstrates his
Machiavellian ability to practice deceit; taking facts
Analysis And Evaluation Of Working With A Team
Executive Summary (250 words) This report provides an analysis and evaluation
of working with a team in order to achieve both individual and team goals. This has
been done through the application of decision making, attribution theory and
perception to understand how to achieve the best outcome given any circumstance.
Before any of the Everest climbs, the clear consensus of the group was that
communication was vital in order to be successful. To do so, social media such as
Facebook and Skype Conference calls, Google documents and face to face
communication both during and after tutorials were utilised. Through the
comparison of two different simulation environments with similar scenarios and
roles for each, results have indicated that groups who spend time prior to the
exercise combined with past experiences and clear communication are more likely
to complete the tasks assigned to them and therefore reach their goals together. This
is evident in the 14% increase to 69% of the completion of group goals in the
second climb, as opposed to just 54% in the first. Individual goals also increased
from 14% to 86% for the environmentalist, a great improvement which is attributed to
the increase in communication due to the second climb being done face to face,
where the application of perceptual skills was more successful since everyone was
able to identify and voice their opinions in the same environment. This report also
highlights that while the outcome of one group may have
Diverty In Urban, Urban And Urban Poverty
poverty are urban and rural poverty. Urban and rural are used to classify places all
over the globe. Urban usually refers to cities and bigger towns. Whereas rural
places are usually very small areas outside of urbanized cities. According to the
government definition, all areas that are not urban, suburban or metropolitan are by
default classified as rural (Stansell). With these types of places comes certain types of
povertyand those would be urban and rural poverty. In urban poverty, the urban
poor deal with a complex aggregate of chronic and acute stressors (including
crowding, violence, and noise) and are dependent on often inadequate large city
services (Jensen). It seems that people become subject to their surroundings and
although they have better facilities than those in rural areas, there are usually too
many people to access it fairly. With rural poverty there are more single guardian
households, and families often have less access to services, support for disabilities,
and quality education opportunities (Jensen). In rural areas, the necessities needed to
maintain a healthy and well off life are usually further away than most people would
like. These six types of poverty are relevant all over the world. Through people s
surroundings, family lives, and certain situations, many people are in poverty.
In poverty stricken areas, it is most common to blame the parents of the family. Most
people usually do not notice is how the children of this situation are

Sample Of Synthesis Essay Crafting an essay on the topic "Sample of Synthesis Essay" presents its own set of challenges that require a careful balance of analytical skills, critical thinking, and effective communication. The synthesis essay genre demands the writer to amalgamate information from diverse sources, weaving them together to form a cohesive narrative or argument. This involves not only summarizing individual sources but also synthesizing their ideas to generate new insights. One difficulty lies in the meticulous selection and integration of relevant sources. It's crucial to identify materials that not only support the thesis but also offer diverse perspectives to create a well-rounded synthesis. The process demands thorough research, a discerning eye for credible sources, and the ability to extract meaningful connections between seemingly disparate information. The synthesis essay also requires a sophisticated understanding of the chosen topic. This means delving into the nuances of each source, recognizing underlying themes, and discerning how they intersect. The challenge is not only in understanding individual ideas but in identifying the relationships between them and weaving those connections into a coherent narrative. Organizing the information in a logical and compelling manner is another hurdle. Ensuring a smooth flow from one idea to the next, while maintaining clarity and coherence, demands adept organizational skills. The essay must guide the reader seamlessly through the synthesized information, making the complex web of ideas accessible and engaging. • 2. How Sports Influenced Me Research Paper Athletics and sports have influenced me in many ways over the years. They have taught me different leadership skills and how to function on a team. These skills will help me in the future, whether it is in my career or working with other people on projects. First, sports have influenced my leadership skills. I have learned how to compromise and how to help others when they are frustrated. Being a member of a sportmeans that you have to think about others before yourself: I have learned that from the many athletic activities I ve been involved in. There have been many instances in sports I have been involved in where athletes get angry at themselves for a poor performance. They are frustrated with themselves and I have learned how to step in to try to get them past a bad performance and to look forward to future competitions.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have been in soccer, cross country, and track during my high school athletic career. Track has taught me how dependent you are on your teammates. During the relay races, every second counts in a race, and you have to be able to depend on your teammates to run a fast time. Also, if my teammates or I run a poor time and lose a block position, I have learned that I could not show my frustration towards them because more than likely they feel upset with themselves and don t need any more pressure. In soccer, I learned how important it is for a team to have good chemistry. Every soccer player has a different playing. In, soccer some people are more passing oriented or shooting oriented. Similar, in track some people are more self oriented versus team oriented, and care about their times and not the team as a whole. I have learned how to work with my team and how to remain unified and strong in athletic

  • 5. Lady Gaga Fame Exploring Lady Gaga s Possible Reactions to Loss of Fame Fame is a condition that allows an individual to be known by many people, especially on account of notable achievements. Fame allows an individual to have super powers in a way because famous individuals are usually exempt from the rules that govern others (Smalley McIntosh, 386). Emily Dickinson has described fame precisely by labeling it as a fickle food , meaning, it is constantly shifting (Smalley McIntosh, 385). In today s media based society, fame is constantly shifting from one person to another quickly. Therefore, the constant shifting of fame puts many celebrities in vulnerable positions after the loss of fame. The article by Smalley and McIntosh explores how the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These accomplishments of Lady Gaga suggest that she was dedicated to music from very early age and focused on it consistently through her life to gain the fame. Smalley and McIntosh mentioned that due to the nature of cognitive dissonance, the harder a person works to attain a goal, the more attractive and hence valuable that goal will be to that individual (p. 395). They further stated that the person would react more negatively to loss of fame after working hard to be successful (p. 395).On the flip side, Lady Gaga may try to cling to her image of the monster to receive the attention from the general public and to remain in lime light. Smalley and McIntosh specify that clinging is usually seen in individuals famous for representing particular personas. The authors also mention that after the loss of fame the celebrity finds it difficult or impossible to gain recognition apart from that role. Thus the celebrity clings to the role, incorporating it into his/her life (Smalley McIntosh, 388). Click, Lee and Holladay explain that in modern day the term monster can be applied to individuals who represent deviation from the status quo (p. 365). Lady Gaga is known for her unique and weird sense of fashion. She has many times grabbed news headlines just for her choices of costumes beginning from meat dress costume to blow up metallic star costume and many more. However, besides her costumes, she has also provided great music and performances which have contributed to her continuous fame. After the loss of fame Lady Gaga may try to grab public s attention by continuously presenting herself as a monster. In simpler terms Lady Gaga may cling to her image of the monster and continually appear in eccentric costumes to grab public attention and
  • 6. Chris McCandless is NOT a Hero in the Book, Into the Wild... Many people have read the story Into the Wild By Jon Krakauer, when mentioning the name Chris McCandless he is either viewed as hero or as a dumb man. The people who view him as a hero tend to believe that he was determined enough to want to do something. Others view him as an idiot who just wanted attention. Him being unprepared and not knowing much about how to survive in the wild made McCandless an idiot, the dumb jerk. Also causing him to be a poor role model to multiple people causing them to end up in dangerous situations that could be threatening to their lives. Having the right supplies for hiking or in Chris s case going out to live in the wild is critical. Chris was lacking in this category. When Chris was found a few weeks later in the woods it was evident that he didn t have the food supply he needed to survive. Matthew Power from Men s Journal The Magazine, brings up the point that Chris only brought a few things with him, Setting off with little more than a twenty two caliber rifle and a ten pound bag of rice, McCandless hoped to find his true self by renouncing society and living off the land. Chris later proved that even if you intend to live off the land if you are not used to it and living that way it is going to be extremely hard and may even result in death. Chris was on a death mission weather he realized it or not. He went into the wild and is now causing people to unintentionally cause self harm to themselves. Peter Christian added, Some like

Their company however was a failure and both started to work in animation at the Kansas City Film Ad Company. After learning all about animation, he pursued another start up with another co worker Fred Harman. This time he created an animation business and started screening cartoon s titled Laugh O Grams in a local theatre. Following their success, Disney acquired Laugh O Gram studios, which soon went bankrupt due to Walt s poor financial management. Later that year, Walt and his Brother Roy opened Disney Brothers Studio in Hollywood, California (WDFM, 2012). • 8. The, Mississippi Trial, 1955, By Chris Crowe It was Jem s turn to cry. His face was streaked with angry tears as we made our way through the cheerful crowd. It ain t right, he muttered... (Lee 284). The realistic fiction novel, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, and the historical fiction novel, Mississippi Trial, 1955 by Chris Crowe, both share many characteristics. Both novels take place in the Civil Rights Era American south and revolve around the unjust trial of an African Americancharacter. By the events that take place in the two novels, a universal theme is revealed: Changing Attitudes Through Knowledge . Through common experiences in Southern towns, both Jem and Hiram exhibit similar views on the treatment of African Americans, experience comparable changes in the way they view their role model, and are forced to surrender their optimistic attitudes towards justice and individual integrity. Hiram of Mississippi Trial, 1955 and Jem of To Kill a Mockingbirdboth show a dislike towards the prejudice and poor treatment that some people give to African Americans. They do not understand how white people can treat Negroes with so much contempt and hatred. After the trial of Tom Robinson, in which a guilty verdict was announced in spite of the utter lack of incriminating evidence, Jem shows disagreement with the verdict. The outcome deeply affects him, and he is profoundly afflicted by the injustice of the verdict. Jem was suddenly furious. He leaped off the bed, grabbed me by the collar and shook me. I never
  • 9. California Prison System The California prison system was created in response to the increased amount of criminal activity that sparked during the Gold Rush years. Prior to the Gold Rush, California had prided itself on being a land of health, beauty, and opportunity (Bookspan, xviii). However, immigration and population growth surged, especially amongst foreign convicts and aliens , resulting in increased crime. At first, it was decided that punishment for small crimes would be a beating by whip while punishment for serious crimes, like robbery or murder, would be hanging (Kidport). After becoming a state in 1850, the California governor John McDougal reacted to this method of punishment by beginning what is known as the California PrisonSystem. The first prison within California was San Quentin, which began to receive inmates in 1854, next was Folsom State Prison in 1880, then California Correctional Institution in 1933, California Institution for Men in 1941, and California Institute for Women in 1952 as well as multiple California state prisons that have opened since then in cities such as San Diego, Sacramento, Chowchilla, Avenal, Corcoran, Susanville, Vacaville, Crescent City, and many more (California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation). The early California prison systems were very much influenced by the Auburn prison system, from the Auburn Correctional Facility in Auburn, New York. This system imposed solitary confinement to silence prisoners and promote meditations, but still

Logging is one of Canada s major industries, as it supplies countries all over the world. Wood is one of the most used materials in society. There are many reasons why logging is controversial. People all across the world rely on Canada for it s logging industry to build buildings, houses, and is used in everyday materials. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although cutting down trees may harm our environment, there are many reasons why cutting trees in Canada is a good idea and can benefit our economy. Some of those reasons include Canada generates billions of dollars each year through the logging industry. Deforestation makes a solid income source for the government of Canada. Over 190 658 people are able to work jobs because of the industry. Many people are currently dependent on logging to be able to work. The logging industry, also generates billions of dollars due to pulp and paper. There are over 50 mills in Canada for people to be able to work at. Another reason why Canada should be cutting trees down is due to the safety of others. When trees become old and die, they become unstable and cannot handle natural problems like wind, and storms. This can turn into a hazard to the general public. The trees are able to fall easily and can possibly hurt a pedestrian near by. Diseased trees are also a reason why Canada should be cutting down their trees. If diseased trees are not treated properly, the disease can spread to other trees which then are not able to be used for production. Many people challenge deforestation , the logging industry, and pulp and paper in Canada. However Canada generates billions of dollars, and people are highly dependent on materials produced from wood and would be hard to replace due to the reliance we have on the logging

Throughout the story the narrator talks a little about Emily s back story but the narrator does go as far as telling about her child hood growing up but instead talks about her life from the time she is a young adult until she is an elder. We start to see that there are some unanswered questions throughout the entire story, and even with the surprise ending it still leaves us with a lot of questions that need to be answered. Since the narrator didn t give that much of a backstory regarding Miss Emily, we must come up with theories and conclusions to answer our own questions. First, we see that Miss Emily is mysterious even from the very beginning because the narrator talks about how her house used to be, white, decorated with cupolas, and spires, and scrolled balconies . By the way the narrator describes her house it seems that it used to be very beautiful and full of life, but now the, garages and cotton gins had encroached and obliterated . The narrator mentions in the story is that Miss Emily had a manservant; we start to ask ourselves the question that if she has a servant to wait on her hand and foot than how could she let her house get in such a bad shape like that when she could have asked her servant to keep the house tidy since she is too old to do it herself. Another thing that is mysterious is that the narrator mentions that she hardly ever leaves her house

In the Aristotelian strain we recognize genres as kinds within a system of classification. That is a quote from Abraham Lincoln and it is a forgotten concept in our culture today. Too many people today feel that they are entitled to something, and are asking, What is the country doing for me, instead of, What am I doing for my country? . We have a responsibility to our country to obey her laws, vote for her leaders, and do what is right, not according to the majority populous, but what has been commanded to me by my God. It s our responsibility to keep America s laws. What does this entail? As a Christian trying to answer this question, I first look to God and His Word. This means that we are to submit to our government because God has ordained it. Submission has been tabooed in our culture. Culture teaches us from a young age that we are not to submit but do what our heart tells us. I can not tell you how dangerous this type of thinking is. One of the most obvious parallels is, of course, to Shakespeare s The Tempest, the story of a man stranded on an island which he has single handedly brought under his control through the use of magic. Indeed, the characters, plot, and lesson of Forbidden Planet mirror almost exactly those of The Tempest, with the exception that where The Tempest employs magic, Forbidden Planetutilizes technology. At this point, it is useful to recall one of Arthur C. Clarke s more famous ideas, which is that any technology, when sufficiently advanced, is indistinguishable from magic. Indeed, the technology presented in Forbidden Planet is not meant to be understood by the audience, but rather is, for all intents and purposes, magic. This is undoubtedly in part because the technology doesn t exist and therefore cannot be explained to us. What is more important, however, is that how the technology works is irrelevant for the purpose of the movie, which is to entertain and to teach us a lesson about man s control over the elements and over his own technological creations. At this point a brief synopsis of the movie would seem to be in order, with special attention as to how it relates to The Tempest. In The Tempest, a man named Prospero and his daughter Miranda have been exiled to a remote island which is completely

Almost all of the movement in our body is a result of muscle contraction. Did you know that the skeletal muscle makes up 40% of someone s body weight, and it forms more than 600 muscles. The muscles allow us to frown, laugh, smile and express many other emotions. But, the most important functions of the muscular system are movement, posture, joint stability and heat production. Skeletal muscle is what is attached to our skeleton, by tendons. It s the most common out of the three types of muscle in the body. It is considered a voluntary muscle because we have direct control of moving them because of nervous impulses sent from our brain. • 33. Healthsouth Theoretical Model Of Fraud I. Theoretical Model of Fraud A. Appropriate Fraud Model The best theoretical model of fraud to describe why HealthSouth committed fraud is the fraud diamond not the fraud triangle. Both methods require that these three elements are present for committing fraud: perceived pressure, perceived opportunity, and rationalization. Understanding what motivated HealthSouth s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Richard Scrushy to commit fraud, how the accounting staff committed and concealed the fraud, and how the staff justified their participation are crucial. However, anti fraud professionals believe that changes in social behavior require the addition of a fourth element called capability. Capability includes personal traits and abilities that play a major role in whether fraud will actually occur (Fighting Fraud in the Government n.d.). For example, Scrushy s persuasiveness and Cathy Edward s position as Michael Vines boss increased their capabilities to commit fraud. If capable employees refused to participate, fraud occurrences decrease (Fighting Fraud in the Government n.d.) (Hamilton n.d.). B. Fraud Scheme Committing fraud requires motivation from perceived pressures like greed or meeting expectations. With the shift in investor focus and the need to meet analyst expectations, Scrushy and the family manipulated earnings to make HealthSouth appear more successful. Perceived opportunity establishes how an individual s position enables fraud to be committed and

Identity, Authenticity and Survival Essay Formative Writing I : Identity, Authenticity and Survival by Kandru Manibhushan Rao Kwame Anthony Appiah s essay on Identity, Authenticity and Survival is based on Charles Taylor s earlier work on recognition and identity. Though Taylor s references to identity are mostly to collective identity, Appiah s aim is to draw a comparison or even find a connection between individual identity and collective identity. Authenticity Authenticity, as described by authors such as Lionel Trilling and Charles Taylor is the idea of living one s life by one s own reference and for one s own self without yearning for recognition or acceptance from the collective or society. However, Appiah points out that the search for authenticity is somewhat a paradoxical one. The search for authenticity, as said, goes as much against the demands for a prescribed social life as it does for the recognition of one s real self. There are two layer for recognition of originality/authenticity: * How a person identifies or recognizes himself among other people. * How a culture bearing group (minority) recognizes itself among a larger group. This leg of Appiah s essay focuses extensively on Trilling s contradictory statements on authenticity. Claiming one s authentic ethnicity, for example, for the need of expressing one s originality in turn proves one s need for social acknowledgement for such originality. Even counterconventionalism requires needs recognition from conventionalist. The problem that arises here is, in order to be original, an individual has to understand convention and being everything that it is not, thus resulting in the individual being not authentic,

It is ones responsibility to find the inner spirit, be enlightened to attain inner peace this enhanced personal growth. He believed that unless one did this, they would be controlled by their circumstances, the situation in which they found themselves. One is able to take control of their thought process and view of life. He realized that an intuitive understanding and consciousness was more significant than abstract thinking and intellectual logical analysis, (Issacson, 2011, p. 37). Bone age assessment (BAA) is an automated process to evaluating the level of skeletal maturation in children. Throughout history women have always been the minority and marginalized. They were thought of only being a caregiver, that could not exemplify the same work ethic men did. Women were and still are neglected the same rights men have. Since times have evolved women have fought for the rights they have. Yet even in the year 2015, men are still considered to be the superiority. Women are still denied the equality due to their gender. Ever since the creation of religion women have been considered objects, that they are made to bear the child and serve the husband. Biblical views were very prominent in the formation of America and in today s society. You shall not covet your neighbor s house, you shall not covet your neighbor s wife, or his male slave, his female slave, his ox, his donkey or anything which belongs to your neighbor (Exodus 20:17; Deuteronomy 5:21). In this section of the bible women are considered property. Women are humans just like men and deserve to be treated as an equal. It teaches the new generations that women are not people but objects to be owned.Due to these point of views men believe that they are superior and that women should praise them. The process involves drilling deep into the Earth s surface. Fractures are then created by pumping large quantities of fluids at high pressure down a welfare and into the target rock formation (EPA, 2016). After making these openings for the gas or oil to come up (known as flowback ) the materials can be stored. • 51. Othello, By William Shakespeare Iago is a Machiavellian villain , someone who is intent on realizing his desires at all costs and seeks to achieve this in a deceptive manner. To achieve his goals, he utilizes characters around him to carry out his plans without them realizing. His main purpose in Othello is to entrap and deceive the hero. In this scene we discover Iago s hate towards Othello and his motives to ruin him; one of them being Othello s recent promotion of Michael Cassio to the post of lieutenant. In spite of Iago s service in battle and the recommendation from the three great ones of the city , Othello chose to give the position to a Florentine that never set a squadron in the field . Iago only follows Othello to serve my turn upon him . Iago is shown to be looking out for his own self interest whilst pretending to serve Othello. Thus revealing his capacity to hide his feelings and motives so that his actions don t reveal them. The opening scene establishes honest Iago as a character who possesses a Janus face which simultaneously makes him the most faithful of friends and the most deadly of enemies. His poisonous cleverness allows him to manipulate those around him by exploiting their finer qualities, which he holds in contempt. He is a real villain whose dramatic persona of manifest hypocrisy draws the audience towards him even as he repels them. His manipulation of the situation between Roderigo and Brabantio demonstrates his Machiavellian ability to practice deceit; taking facts

This has been done through the application of decision making, attribution theory and perception to understand how to achieve the best outcome given any circumstance. Before any of the Everest climbs, the clear consensus of the group was that communication was vital in order to be successful. To do so, social media such as Facebook and Skype Conference calls, Google documents and face to face communication both during and after tutorials were utilised. Through the comparison of two different simulation environments with similar scenarios and roles for each, results have indicated that groups who spend time prior to the exercise combined with past experiences and clear communication are more likely to complete the tasks assigned to them and therefore reach their goals together. This is evident in the 14% increase to 69% of the completion of group goals in the second climb, as opposed to just 54% in the first. Individual goals also increased from 14% to 86% for the environmentalist, a great improvement which is attributed to the increase in communication due to the second climb being done face to face, where the application of perceptual skills was more successful since everyone was able to identify and voice their opinions in the same environment. This report also highlights that while the outcome of one group may have

With rural poverty there are more single guardian households, and families often have less access to services, support for disabilities, and quality education opportunities (Jensen). In rural areas, the necessities needed to maintain a healthy and well off life are usually further away than most people would like. These six types of poverty are relevant all over the world.
