Studies show food production could decrease by 30-50% in some African countries by 2020-2030 due to climate change impacts like drought. There are projections of 200 million more food insecure people by 2050. Currently, over 19 million children face hunger-related deaths but only 3% receive treatment. Climate change is threatening global food supplies and malnutrition is expected to increase, posing severe humanitarian crises particularly in East Africa. Adaptation will be needed to address impacts on agriculture and food security.

Chickpea productivity is constrained by several biotic and abiotic stresses, of which Helocoverpa armigera is the most devastating pest worldwide (Sharma 2005). Low to moderate levels of resistance have been identified in the cultivated germplasm, but high levels of resistance have been observed in the wild relatives of chickpea (Sharma et al., 2005a,b). To increase levels and diversify the basis of resistance to H. armigera, it is important to evaluate the wild relatives to identify accessions with different mechanisms of resistance to this pest.

Even in a pandemic, populations needed to be nourished! We salute the rural farmers, and especially the women farmers, who make up 24-56% of labor providers in rural Africa, who bear the largest burden in the drylands!
On the Edge: Linking Climate Change, Food Security, and Population in Ethiopia

Monitoring crop consumptive water use by applying recent remote sensing techniques has become a topic of research interest in water resources management and planning. In irrigated agriculture, conventional methods of estimating water use are costly. This study aims at estimate the relationship between tobacco crop evapotranspiration (ETcrop) and the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) during the crop development stage at Chedgelow irrigated farm in Zimbabwe. Tobacco ETcrop was estimated as a product of reference evapotranspiration (ETo) and crop coefficient (Kc). The Penman-Monteith model was applied to estimate ETo using climate data from Kutsaga research station, some 2 km away from the farm. Kc values were extracted from FAO tables. Five cloud-free MODIS images for the month of October in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2007 were processed extract the NDVI values using ILWIS GIS. The results show significant (p = 0.000) differences between tobacco NDVI values over the years studied. The results also show a strong and significant positive relationship (r2 = 0.8061, p = 0.047) between ETcrop estimated using Penman Monteith model and NDVI. Research findings show that satellite derived NDVI is a good and reliable predictor of tobacco crop water evapotranspiration. Therefore, remotely sensed NDVI can be used to monitor crop water use in irrigated tobacco fields in areas where resources do not permit field measurements.Using crop wild relatives in crop improvement

Food crisis ( famine ) global warming
A famine (Food Crisis) is a widespread scarcity of food, caused by several factors including war, inflation, crop failure, population imbalance, or government policies. This phenomenon is usually accompanied or followed by regional malnutrition, starvation, epidemic, and increased mortality. Every inhabited continent in the world has experienced a period of famine throughout history. In the 19th and 20th century, it was generally Southeast and South Asia, as well as Eastern and Central Europe that suffered the most deaths from famine.
Some countries, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, continue to have extreme cases of famine. Since 2010, Africa has been the most affected continent in the world. As of 2017, the United Nations has warned some 20 million are at risk in South Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria and Yemen.

What is Climate Change Causing?
- 2. Global warming is exacerbating political instability as tensions brought on by food insecurity rise. Research suggests the issue can only become worse. China is relatively resilient to climate change. Its population is expected to decline by up 400 million people this century. According to climate change projections, food production could shrink by as much as 50 percent by 2020 in some African countries, and by 30 percent. Drought, rocketing bread prices, food and water shortages have all blighted parts of the Middle East. There are studies that show anything up to 200 million more food-insecure people by 2050. Over 19 million children face hunger-related death at any given moment but only three percent of them receive treatment.
- 3. Is Global Hunger going to Spread? •Studies show that crops will decrease by 30% by 2030. •Some contributions to global hunger are Malnutrition, Poor Maternal and child care, poor access to drinking water, diseases etc. •It all originated from climate change. •In 2050 due to malnutrition world wide in children will raise to 20%. . - 4. What Can Drought Do To Affect Crops? Everything in the environment is connected, just like everything in our communities is connected. Each different way that drought affects us is what we call an impact of drought. Drought can cause a domino effect. Farmer’s crops dying. Farmer cannot afford a tractor from the dealership. The dealer loses money. The dealership might not be able to employ as many people or may even have to close.

How Is Climate Change Affecting Human’s Today? •At least 2 million Ugandan’s are threatened with severe hunger and malnutrition following droughts across east Africa. •Oxfam’s East Africa’s director says that many Ugandan’s are selling their cattle in order to afford food. •Some say it’s the worst humanitarian crisis in East Africa over 10 years.
- 6. In June 1971-2000 Temperature had increased when it reached 2010. An equivalent of 10 years. How Rapid is the Climate Changing? •The Climate is changing at an equivalent of 10 years by 0-11 degree’s more. •By us using cars to commute, we create more greenhouse gases. •Scientists say in about a decade, the world will be very hot due to greenhouse gases trapping the heat.
- 7. This little girl acquires a bowl of rice from organizations that give food to those that have nothing. •Every seven seconds, a child dies at the hand of a silent killer. Hunger. Right now, millions of children in Africa are at risk of starvation. •Ethiopian Hunger Crisis •Food Production will depend on how well societies can adapt to such climatic changes.
