Global warming is exacerbating food insecurity and political instability. Studies show food production could decrease by 30-50% in some African countries by 2020-2030 due to climate change impacts like drought. There are projections of 200 million more food insecure people by 2050. Currently, over 19 million children face hunger-related deaths but only 3% receive treatment. Climate change is threatening global food supplies and malnutrition is expected to increase, posing severe humanitarian crises particularly in East Africa. Adaptation will be needed to address impacts on agriculture and food security.
