This document discusses literal translation and free translation. Literal translation aims to stay as close as possible to the original content and form, translating word for word. Free translation focuses on expressing the logic and meaning of the original content rather than its exact words. Some advocate for literal translation to better understand other cultures through retaining original language features. However, different languages have unique cultures, so sometimes free translation is needed to express meanings that are difficult to directly translate and convey the original artistic image or conception.
