Demographic Transition In Canada
At present time, Canada is facing a significant demographic transition in its population. From last
century, the decrease in mortality, fertility and the increase in life expectancy lead to vast changes
in Canada s population. Aging of Canada s population becomes more and more severer. This
research paper is to study the correlation between demographic transition in Canada and how does
the transition impact on economic growth. To be more specifically, demographics variables can
include life expectancy, fertility and mortality; economic growth variables can include labour force
and public expenditure.
Recently, Statistic Canada has point out Seniors are projected to become more numerous than
children in Canada by 2017 a milestone in the country s history. (Statistics Canada, 2016) To
discuss more in depth, according to the data collected from Statistic Canada, there is a post war
baby boom in 1950s, afterwards, there has been a steady decline in fertility. The median age in
Canada was 27.2 in 1956 and climbed to 39.5 in 2006 (Statistics Canada, 2016). With the decrease
in fertility and mortality, the problem of aging population in Canada occurs. In present time, those
great number of baby boomers are now leave to workforce and begin to retire. It results in the rise
of Canada s elderly dependency ration. (National Seniors Council(Canada), 2011) For elders, the

The Major Psychological Disorders Covered
This final paper looks at summarizing one of the major psychological disorders covered in the
course this semester Thought disorder. It s most commonly manifest in language (e.g. speech or
writing) that is difficult to make sense of, Some people think that thought disorder is a specific
problem of language and others think that it is a more general problem in semantics (meaning)
that also leads to problems in making sense of non verbal events around us. Thought disorders are
conditions that affect the way a person thinks, creating a disturbance in the way a person puts
together a logical sequence of ideas. It is commonly recognized by incoherent or disordered
thinking, for example anyone suffering from a thought disorder may speak... Show more content on

This will make it easier for clients to buy from TRO relative to their competition. This scenario of
course assumes that TRO offers superior products to their competition.
TRO by default will increase the number of units sold if they are able to increase the number of
clients and frequency of purchase. But they can also increase the number of units sold by
understanding how to add value. For example TRO can offer existing clients some discount say
20% if they buy more volume or let clients have their products and let them pay later.

We have ascertained the three things above that must happen before growth can occur be it in
territories that TRO currently have sales people or territories like Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Denver
and California that Steve is looking to move into.
Steve has to perform a SWOT analysis on the current territories he has sales people to consolidate
before looking to expand to other territories.
What are TRO strengths in the nine territories east of the Mississippi river? Can these strengths
be duplicated in the new territories they want to enter? For example TRO is known for its service
and ability to provide specialized products and not price. So Steve has to be sure that in the new
territories they will find customers that value

Act 1 Of Rosencrantz And Guidenstern Are Dead By Tom Stoppard
In act I of Rosencrantz and Guidenstern are dead by Tom Stoppard focuses on two characters,
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. They are embarking on a journey that oddly enough neuther of
them fully recall why exactly they are traveling or who sent them. Just as in Beckets Waiting for

this Play Rosencrants and Guildenstern are flipping a cointhat seems to keep landing on heads.
There is an odd sense of uncertainty that comes from such a certainty of flipping on heads. After a

Claudius and Gertrude in order to figure out what was wrong with Hamletbecause of his recent
change in behavior. The scene where Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are sitting around flipping a
coin is more important than most would think. The passing of time is something that is prominent
in this story that parallels to beckets novel. The audience gets a notion that the characters spend
so much of their life doing nothing more than waiting for the next event to happen. Some might
say that that all anybody does every day but I disagree. I feel that the act of waiting has many
definitions because many people are active while waiting just as the characters are in both of the
plays. In both situations there is a sense of a loss of

Nitrogen And Phosphorus Comparison
Introduction
Nitrogen and phosphorus are parts of two biogeochemical cycles that coexist in nature. Although
they occur simultaneously, they have a plethora of ways in which they differ. There is however one
thing they have in common the fact that their supply is essential to all forms of life.
Nitrogen cycle encompasses large flows of nitrogen between the atmosphere, lithosphere,
hydrosphere, and biosphere. The vast amount of nitrogen can be found in the atmosphere, and it
accounts for 80% of the atmospheric gases (Fields 2004). With the atmosphere being almost full
of nitrogen, it would only make sense that there would be plenty of it to use (Fields 2004; Fowler
et al. 2013; Pfeffer Hristov 2005). However, it is having sufficient amounts of the... Show more

There is a relatively minor flux of a gas known as phosphine (PH3), but its total amount it fairly

The balance of these two cycles is being constantly disrupted by anthropogenic interventions. The
most prominent evidence of nitrogen imbalance is water eutrophication, commonly caused by
fertilizer and waste runoff.
The reason why the N2 atmospheric nitrogen compound is not suitable for use, is because the two
N atoms are linked together with an incredibly powerful triple bond which makes the molecule inert
(unreactive).
Its power and therefore energy release upon forming it, is so strong that it can even cause
explosions. According to thermodynamics, breaking down bonds requires energy and forming
bonds releases it. Therefore, the explosiveness of nitrogen compounds is caused by this huge
release of energy that occurs when the nitrogen nitrogen triple bonds

Futurism and advertising in the 1960s space age
Futurism was an artistic and social movement originating from 20th century Italy. The movement
ultimately rejected anything that looked to the past for identity. Instead, it glorified speed,
technology, youth, and the idea of anything industrial and mass produced. As the founders of the
movement would have it, the movement explored different mediums of art and design, ultimately
overarching each other, and finding its way into many aspects of daily life; including and not
limited to conventional mediums such as painting, sculpture architecture, film, music, poetry, and
photography; just to name a few. With its dynamic and innovative aesthetic qualities, it is still

Rice hit 208 touchdown in his multiple seasons. He was a receiver for a couple of teams, which
includes you to use your hands to catch the ball, but Jerry Rice was good at every position. Rice
had 10 rushing touchdowns, and one fumble recovery; with his speed he was able to break away
from the mayhem and score a touchdown. No matter what who the person, or the team, if
anyone was to achieve that goal, that is amazing and will be remembered. In any division of
football it is extremely hard to break 200 touchdowns. If you break 200 you might as well be the
best receiver in the world, of NFL. Jerry Rice had racked in more touchdowns than Emmitt
Smith. Emmitt was a phenomenal running back for the Dallas Cowboys, hitting 175
touchdowns in his career. Jerry has the most touchdowns in NFL history, with Emmitt Smith, at
second, and Ladainian Tomlinson at third. Emmitt Smith is an elite running back that was in the
NFL and for someone, anyone to have more and better stats than him is very difficult. Some may
say that Randy Moss is the most explosive, fastest and the most hardworking wide receiver there
ever was. Most of those people don t know the background of Jerry Rice. Jerry rice s dad was a

Differences Between Narnia Book And Movie
The differences between book and movie, we think that the story of four children who go to live
with an older man (a professor) in order to get away from the air raids that are occurring at home
due to the war. The film begins with Lucy telling the others about Narnia and the wardrobe, and
the events in Narnia with Mr. Tumnus are shown as a flashback. In the book, these events are
shown before she tells everyone about them. The characters of Mrs. Macready, Father Christmas
and the Giant Rumblebuffin are cut. (Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy appear to enter the
wardrobe on their own, and Aslan gives them their gifts when they reach the Stone Table.
However, Father Christmas is mentioned, and the jingle bells of his sled are heard.) Maugrim s
name is changed to Fenris Ulf, like in the old American Version of the chronicles. While they are
staying with the professor, they find a wardrobe in an empty room that leads them to another
world called Narnia. The four children enter Narnia and free it from the spell that the white witch
has cast upon it and in the process they become kings and queens of Narnia. There are several
differences in the movie that are not present in the book, but they are very minor and do not change

A Planar Dual-Band Filter based on the Reduced Length...
A Planar Dual Band Filter based on the Reduced Length Parallel Coupled Lines
Seungku Lee and Yongshik Lee, Member, IEEE
Sowmya Ravichandran
Review paper summary: A Dual Band Filter is obtained by cascading the reactively loaded parallel
coupled lines of reduced length ( гЂ–90гЂ—^0).The proposed filter have same electrical
performance at both the passbands at frequencies f1 and mf1, where m is the frequency of
separation between the two passbands. A complete set of design equations are derived for arbitrary
number of Filter stages using standard filter synthesis technique. This provides simple, low cost and
high performance filter with multiple bands.

The ports 2 and 3 can be made open or short. This design operates only at one frequency (f1).The
equation for designing this filter is derived by even and odd mode analysis. The bandwidth of the
filter with dual band is less compared to the conventional filter with single frequency of operation.
This reduction in bandwidth is due to the Shunt stubs which are used to load the parallel coupled
lines.
Novel Design: The electrical length of the coupled line is reduced to гЂ–34.84гЂ—^0 . This
decrease in length can be obtained only by increasing the frequency of separation m to 4.167.Hence
the passband frequencies thus obtained are 2.4GHz and 10GHz.The even and mode impedances of
the coupled line and the impedance of the shunt stub are calculated using the filter design equations.
The shunt impedance value is found to be decreased when compared to filter with length
гЂ–56.8421гЂ—^0.The bandwidth at both the frequencies are increased to 216MHz for a filter
with 9% fractional bandwidth at 2.4GHz and 2.16% fractional bandwidth at 10GHz.Thus a
reduced length filter would have increased bandwidth and decreased stub impedance. A graph is
plotted for frequency Vs insertion loss. The insertion loss is found to be 0.66dB at 2.4GHz and
19.8dB at 10GHz.A better insertion loss of 2.9dB is obtained with a little shift in the frequency at
12.1GHz.

The Siege of Port Arthur
Once the city of Port Arthur was under siege at the hands of Togo s navy, and the First army was
able to successfully land in Chemulpo, the Japanese set out to launch the second half of its joint
campaign. The objective was to stage a limited war in an effort to further contain the Russian troops
in the region and exhaust any possibility they had of rebuilding their resources to counter Japanese
attack. Japan was smart, they knew they could not sustain fighting and continue to pull out victories
if Russiawas able to replenish and rebuild. If the Russians were afforded the time they needed, the
war may have taken a different turn for the Japanese.
The first successful land attack began with the battle at Yalu river. The river was not far from
Port Arthur, and its significance was also that it represented the border between Korea and
China. The goal of the Russians was in contrast, as General Kuropatkin, Far East Army Russian
Commander, was interested only in holding the line long enough to receive reinforcements by
way of the Trans Siberian railway. In other words, the Russian army was on the defensive. He
knew the process of replenishment would be a lengthy one, and the Japanese, under the
leadership of General Kuroki, did as well. Japan was aware that victory would need to be swift to
maintain their strategy of driving the offensive and keeping the Russians on their heels (Warner,
pp. 252 268). Kuropatkin had long been vocal about the dangers of expansion and

Symbolic Interactionism In Sociology
Symbolic interactionism is one of the three major theoretical perspectives in sociology. Symbolic
interactionism is important in microsociology because interactionists emphasize the subjective
meaning of human behaviors, while other theoretical perspectives like functionalism and conflict
theory focus on society as a whole on the macrosociology level. Interactionists focus on the micro
lens of society because they base their theory on the image of humans, rather than on their image of
society. The central theme of symbolic interactionismis that symbols are culturally derived social
objects with shared meanings that are created and maintained through social interaction.

My Day Of School After Winter Break
Numb Toes and Good Times
There are not many things I love more than the smell of pine trees, the cold brisk wind of the
first snowfall, and the joy of Christmas time. I can see myself now, getting released on my last
day of school before winter break. Second grade might not have been a struggle, but a couple
weeks off of school was just what a little me needed. I trudged home through the snow and slush.
The sidewalks were almost non existent in Michigan winters; you had to search for footprints
made by others or risk a rolled ankle. Muddy slush seeped into my snow boots, yet still I had a grin
peeled across my face. This smile was mostly a result of the day approaching, December 25th.
Christmas mostly meant a couple things to me when I was little, presents, candy, and my favorite
vacation out west to the mountains. The Christmas card had already sent out that year, it was all
seven of us; heads morphed onto the Little Rascals characters. At the time this was probably
relatively funny, but now it s pretty much just embarrassing. The poems on the cards were always
the best, I m sure my second grader friends couldn t interpret the jokes my mom wrote, but their
moms would. We would start planning our Christmas cards around September, it was way too
early but I guess it was necessary, to create a comic masterpiece. I never understood how she made
everything rhyme and flow so well, it still amazes me to this day.
When I finally made it home, like clockwork, my mom yelled at me

Disadvantages Of Handoff Schemes
D. Handoff schemes Handoff scheme refers to systematic and organized plans to handle handoff,
including configuration of network, design procedure of handoff, and specific handoff process
management. Based on certain criteria these schemes are categorized as : 1. Handoff schemes
based on Prioritization: 1.1 Non Prioritization schemes: This Scheme [16] has been employed by
the typical radio technologies proposed for the Personal Communication Systems (PCS) operating
at the band of 2 GHz. This scheme does not differentiate handoff and initial (new or originating)
request calls. As long as, there is a channel available in the cell, either an originating or a handoff
call request will be served. If there are not any free channels, the request is blocked immediately.
Advantage: The channel allocation is relatively easy. Disadvantage: The main disadvantage of this
scheme is that, since no priority is given to handoff request calls over originating calls, the forced
termination probability is relatively higher than it is normally anticipated [16], and also there is no
proper channel utilization.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, all these requirements cannot be satisfied simultaneously, and therefore, tradeoffs
between all of them are carried out. From the users perspective, the termination of an ongoing call
is more annoying than the blocking of a new call [18] [19],[77] [78]. Consequently, the handoff
blocking and the forced termination probabilities ought to be minimized. To achieve these
requirements several handoff prioritizing schemes have been

Since the dawn of capitalism and democracy, humans have seen that not everyone is born into a
good life. Many people have to work two, or perhaps even three, jobs in order to make a living.
Even then, there is no guarantee that an individual will lead a happy, well to do life. As society
grows and matures, human civilization will come to accept that volunteering is a necessity. If no
one in our communities volunteered, there will be too many people that lead lives of poverty
and envy. However, the more that people volunteer, the less amount of people in our
communities will struggle in their lives. Whenever people obtain aid in their lives, they are
more likely to reciprocate that help later in time. The more aid a person receives, the more
opportunities they have to lead a better life in the future. If everyone helped one another in any
form or fashion, life would be much better as we know it. We, as a human civilization, have seen
repeatedly that people who have lived through hard times are more likely to give back to their
communities if they have better lives later on. As time goes on, years from now, hopefully we will
see poverty, hunger, heart failure, and other common emergencies as a thing of the

Essay On The Elizabethan Era
Elizabethan Era Then and now
Elizabethan Era is one of many memorable and important events in England. It got its name from
Queen Elizabeth, the queen who ruled that era. The Elizabethan age is an era that inspired national
pride through classical ideals, poetry, literature, and more. There are three aspects the states that the

During this period your life is determined by your gender or your wealth. Their clothing varied
among their social classes, with that being said a person who wears old or lame clothes would
be in the lower class such as farmers and the people who wear nice or extravagant clothes would
be in the higher class such as nobles. Today people can wear anything that they want to wear; a
poor person can have stylish clothes and the rich could wear old or dirty clothes. Their
entertainment was extremely important to the people who lived in the Elizabethan era.
Elizabethan entertainment was popular when there was something to celebrate and it often
occurred nightly, but there were different types of entertainment among the classes in England.
Rich would do things which the poor couldn t do or afford such as watch plays, go hunting,
jousts among knights, and more. The poor or the middle class would simply just listen to
travelling musicians and actors or to watch public plays. Today rich could only have
entertainment, because the poor has to work to feed themselves and has no spare money to do
such lavish things such as watching movies, going to a basketball game, or go to a concert.
During this period women were considered inferior to men and were not allowed to have a job,
this required men to become the sole source of the family income and to represent it. They would

Why Should Service Dogs Be Allowed In Schools
There is a reason people say dogs are a man s best friend. When I was younger, I was always afraid
that some bad guy would break into my house. This fear caused me to have nightmares and lose
sleep. Then I got a dog and I felt so much safer! Right now there is a case going to the Supreme
Court to decide if service dogs should be allowed in schools. Service dogs should be allowed in
schools because they help people with disabilities, they provide comfort to people, and because
dogs are frequently used in fields of medicine. If I found comfort with a dog, so can students
with disabilities. Dogs are not just cute and fuzzy friends. Since it has been thousands of years
that dogs have been trained to do things for humans, we can now count on dogs to do very
specific jobs. For example, the article from the U.S. Department of Justice says, Service animals

Student Athletes Research Paper
The term student athlete brings the image of a football player or a student known to be an
arrogant jock, rather than the idea of a successful student on and off the field or court. Taking part
in athletics while enrolled in school is a rigorous responsibility, yet despite this many student
athletes accept the challenge and excel academically. As stated from an online source, roughly 6.5%
of high schoolfootball players will play at the collegiate level and with percentages that low, more
effort is needed than being a superior athlete to succeed ( Probability of Competing Beyond High
School ). The blood curdling duties of being a student athlete takes being social and maintaining

With the population and demand to play college sport increasing, colleges have taken a stand at
how to increase academic management while still competing at the collegiate level. On average,
during the season, women that compete for the basketball team missed 23% of classes per week
(Moltz), in addition, the graduation rate for Division 1 athletes is 1.1% lower when compared to
non student athletes (Kulics). On the contrary, because of the lower graduation rates for student
athletes, high school students are engaging in college prep courses more than years prior, on
account of insuring higher grades and test scores. To further enhance the succession rate, multiple
universities and colleges have begun to create and enforce tutoring for the athletic teams.
However, the high academic demands are bringing large amounts of stress on the students, for
instance, Division 1 athletes must complete 40% of the required coursework for a degree by the
end of the second year, 60% by the end of the third year and 80% by the end of the fourth year (
Remaining Eligible: Academically ). For that reason, time management is not only present to
administer a healthy balance between academics and athletics, but to also stabilize the mental stress
with the available social aspects of being a student athlete. Although the idea of enforcing time
management is optimal, it is not always prosperous. The

The Cretaceous-Tertiary Mass Extinction
The age of the planet Earth is estimated to be about four point six billion years old. Life on Earth
is estimated to have started one billion years later. Evolution has taken place since then. Evolving
life from simple forms into more complex forms through the course of time. It all began with single
celled organisms, prokaryotes. Later evolving in a period of two hundred million years,
cyanobacteria began to produce photosynthesis. And life went on, evolving, adapting to its home.
However through this course of time, mass extinctions have taken place on planet Earth. One of the
most recent mass extinctions, has as a matter of fact left various amounts of evidence of the
creatures which roamed the Earth at that time. Such magnificent creatures which varied from a
very small size to giant sizes. Creatures which are now known to humanity as dinosaurs. The
name of this extinction was the Cretaceous Tertiary Mass Extinction. This extinction took place
roughly sixty five million years ago. It has not been too long since this incident compared to the
life span of the Earth. And yet it is still unclear how this extinction occurred. Paleontologists to
this day, debate on how this extinction occurred. A major factor on what caused this extinction to
occur was an impact of an asteroid. Another theory such as sea level regression is considered to
be the blame for the extinction. Sea level regression is the drop of sea levels which aids to explain
the marine mass extinction, however

How would you react if your family was loathed by both the government and neighboring
citizens simply because of your religion? What if you were ordered to work at a German labor

Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank, Anne and her family go through the same exact situation
but they choose to go into hiding instead of fleeing the German occupied country. All of the
characters, the setting, and the theme depicted on what would come in the near future. Anne and
her family also go through unexpected daily situations that not only affect them as a whole, but
stands as a place in Anne s heart. The characters were an extraordinarily significant aspect of how
the story would turn out in the end. Anne, her family, the van Daan family, and Albert Dussel
went into hiding at the Secret Annex. Anne was particularly attached to her father, Otto, because
she felt he was always there for him. ВЁI model myself after Father, and there s no one in the

Another weakness to Anderson s theory is that he negates the reality of some physical ailments
and instead attributes them to demonic forces. While this may be fact in some cases, this theory
is farfetched in my personal opinion. Even Anderson s example of Dee and her bout with MS is
questionable as he notes a few pages after describing her miraculous recovery after completing
his steps that some cases of MS are degenerative and some display symptoms which come and go
such as seemed the case with Dee (Anderson, 2000). This type of theory comes under scrutiny by
people outside of the Christian faith and makes Christians look like quacks since we believe that
some supernatural force, not scientifically proven, is responsible for physical ailments able to be
treated by medicine. While I feel that many components go into diagnosing physical and mental
ailments I am cautious about subscribing to a belief that could do a person more harm than
good. As a skeptic of Anderson s theory I must consider stories I have heard of Christians
refusing medical treatment because of a belief that God would treat their ailment and later
suffering greatly because of this belief. I believe that God is all powerful and has the ability to
cure disease, however, I also believe that God has allowed us to develop modern medicine to treat
very real physical ailments and we should be careful not to negate

Obtaining High Resolution Images And 3d Reconstruction
Introduction:
The Confocal Microscope is a type of microscope that is being developed for obtaining high
resolution images and 3D reconstruction. The images from the confocal are far better than other
microscopes; however, not quite as good as fluorescent microscopes. Confocal microscopy has
good impact values in visualizing the objects in life science; one of the top values is to show the
fine image possible in 3D. Confocal microscopy has few advantages in different ways compare to
Wide field optical microscopy. One of these advantages is to show the depth of the field elimination
or reduction of background information away from the focal plane, and the capacity to collect serial
optical sections from thick specimens [1]. The most significant value about the confocal
microscope is the spatial filtering techniques that terminate the glare and focus the substance into
the view. One of the other advantages of Confocal microscopy and Wide field microscopy; the
confocal type of microscopy has the easiest way to rich the extremely high quality images. This
is base on the recent year s popularity of using the microscopes in the science field for growing
cells in biology hat rely on imaging both fixed and living cells and tissues. However, each type of
the microscopes is valuable to be used in different types of research experiments. The high and
most significant value about Confocal is the 3D imaging in fluorescence microscopy. Due to
experimental errors; it is often very

Civil War Music
Civil War Music Music was a vital part of the war. The Civil War had also been referred to
America s great musical war. There was a rank for musicians. They played at recruitment rallies
and kept up the troops morale. Their main job was to relay orders from higher ranking officers.
The branches of the military determined which instrument made the calls. The drummer boys,
fife players, buglers and the songs that they performed played a significant part in the war.
Drummer boys enlisted to serve in the infantry. These boys were usually eighteen years old, but
younger boys sometimes faked their age to enlist. They learned to relay orders to help soldiers
during battle by sounding a call, which is a short tune with an assigned job or order. They had to
go through meticulous training because they had to make the correct calls. With the battlefields
covered in gun smoke, the soldiers relied on the drummer boys to sound the orders. If their calls
were incorrect, they could confuse the soldiers or even give them the wrong orders. In addition
to this, drummer boys had to make calls in camp. Some of the common calls were morning roll
call, sick call, guard duty and taps. Being a drummer boy was only one of the different types of
musicians that had these responsibilities. Musicians that play fife, commonly called fifers,
marched alongside drums in battles. A fife is like a piccolo. It is also similar to a flute, but it has a
much higher range. The fife was useful

Florence, Italy, The Birthplace Of The Renaissance
Florence, Italy is often referred to as the birthplace of the Renaissance because many early artists
and writers in this period emerged from this city as well as the northern hills of Italy. Florence
became a center for trade, with its most wealthy merchants selling wool. This source of income
provided the rebirth of the city such as the building of large cathedrals, gilded mansions, and
beautiful villas. During most of the Renaissance the Medici family controlled Florence, and through
their political power encouraged the arts and the upcoming developments of the city. The most
influential figure in the Italian court towards the evolution of the ballet de cour was Catherine
Medici. While she held her title as the Queen Mother to her sons, she made sure that Italian
pageants were a part of the French court and included daily dance classes as a requirement of the
courtesans. At this time there was great conflict between the Catholics and the Huguenots (French
Protestants). Catherine tried to bring peace between the two factions, but neither side wanted
anything but complete victory. Catherine used dance as a way to bring harmony to disagreements,
especially between religious groups, and to help bring both of the royal courts together.
The Moresca is a style of dance that has been documented as early as the twelfth century, and
began to flourish during the Renaissance when the Medici family was in power. The dance is
meant to be performed by all types of people, and

Heterodox Hero Of Horror In Francis Lawrence s I Am Legend
Heterodox hero of horror
With protagonist and offbeat hero; Dr Robert Neville, Francis Lawrence breathes a fresh
nonconformity into the void of stereotypes that have too long permeated modern heroic cinema
Hayden Newell writes. n decades past, the notion of an African American,
I socially inept and mentally broken hero may very well have passed with a scornful chuckle from
Hollywood s gentry. Tasked with reinvigorating Richard Matheson s sci fi horror page turner; I am
Legend, Francis Lawrence puts this very notion into blockbuster filmic practice with 2007 s aptly
titled; I am Legend. Lawrence rewrites the doctrine of supremacy, violence and impenetrability that
has too long governed pop culture heroism, instead, defining his hero; protagonist and military
virologist Dr Robert Neville, with normal imperfections and a humanness so brilliantly atypical to
the banal muscly do gooder stereotype.
Neville, pertinently portrayed by A lister Will Smith, is left miraculously immune to a cancer cure
turned world ending virus, and takes upon himself the task of curing the remaining few, who have
been rendered zombies by the fateful virus. Indeed, Lawrence opts for nonconformity over
traditional definitions of the hero s journey , with Neville s quest commencing three years post
apocalypse, and the plot meandering along a sweeping narrative punctuated by turbulent flashbacks
to its punchy conclusion. Inevitably, archaic linear models stumble in their quest for relevance, as
Lawrence favours realism and modernity over obsolete archetypes. It is abundantly clear that
Neville is no traditional pro violence man of action, one may even argue that Neville is constructed
as a tragic hero with the loss of his family, or anti hero with his mental struggle, and certainly, the
protagonist exhibits certain traits that may allow these thoughts some weight. Though these time
honoured archetypes fall short of defining ultimately, the heterodoxy and rawness of Lawrence s
hero, Neville is a tormented man; a hero whose external battles dwindle in significance when
compared with his mental struggle, and whose uniqueness in itself challenges cinematic dogma.
Lawrence allows the viewer little time to settle in, launching directly into

scheme whose terms of membership are unknown. This also underlines the fact that Britain wanted
to continue as before and thought it could, at the time Britain was producing about one half of the
coal and steel in Europe.
Right from the conception of the European union Britain has stood aloof from the union being very
cautious and wary. From as far back as the creation of the European Steel and Coal Community in
1952 Britain has shown its unwillingness and reservations about joining Europe. The ECSC was set
up under the Treaty of Paris in 1951 with 6 countries signing. These countries were France, Italy,
Luxemburg, Holland and Belgium. Britain was expected to join the ECSC but this was not the
case. Britain at the time had a far superior economy in strength than the rest of its European
counterparts and felt the union would only inhibit them Economically.
In 1955 a congress was held on the creation of a general customs union, to which Britain did not
deem important enough to send more than a civil servant. However even he was recalled from the
conference. This demonstrated the arrogance of Britain at the time that felt that these Treaties and
agreements did not warrant their involvement. Further adding to their

Does Advancement Of Science Make Primitive Religious...
Question 1.
Does advancement in science make primitive religious beliefs obsolete?
The question whether advancements in science and technology make the religious explanations of
reality is one of the big question and has triggered heated discussions and debates (Tremlin, 2012).
I support the great work of world s top higher learning institutions and universities in the fields such
as theoretical cosmology, physics, cognitive science, evolutionary biology and social science that
relate to forgiveness, love, purpose, creativity, nature and origin of religious beliefs. I encourage the
informed and open minded discussion between theologians and scientists as they relate themselves
to the most profound issues their specific discipline. And in a more particular way I seek to
motivate fresh thinking about the creation of wealth and developing the world, programs that are
aimed at cultivation talents of the gifted, and character education in Universities and schools. In
this paper, I will explain why the primitive theories still hold despite the advancements in
technology.
Theories of the way of primitive religion have moved between two shafts: one intellectualistic and
discerning, the other mental and nonsensical. Tylor and Frazer, both of whom saw primitive
religion as portrayed prevalently by a confidence in enchantment and concealed powers or forces,
speak to the educated sane position. Tylor based his understanding of primitive religion on the
thought that primitive

Vivaldi Instrumedeley Analysis
The two concerts I have chosen are different in many ways, but the music itself has a lot in
common. For the first concert I chose the progressive rock group Dream Theater. I chose the piece
Instrumedley from their Live at Budokan video released in 2004. This video depicts the band setup
on stage in the typical rock concertformat. The lighting is bright and multicolored. Unlike most rock
concerts, the musicians do not animate themselves to excite the crowd. They rely on the mastery of
their instruments to provide the excitement.
The second concert is a performance of Vivaldi s Concerto Grosso in D minor. It is performed by
the Franz Listz Chamber Orchestra. The setting is that of a small gothic church in Hungary. There
is no audience as the venue is used solely for the acoustics.
The band Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band formed in 1985. The members
met while attending Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Their music focuses on
three core elements: metal, progressive roots and melody. Dream Theater has been known to make
use of elements of other musical styles to include classical music. The piece I selected,

He was a master violinist. He wrote church music and more than 40 operas. He is widely known
for his pieces for string orchestra. One of his most famous of these is his set of concertos for
solo violin and orchestra named Four Seasons. The Vivaldi concerto was pure joy to listen to.
The opening sequence is entrancing as the two violins tend to echo off one another. The acoustics
of the gothic church lend itself perfectly to the style of music. The details in the melody are
clearly heard while there is a rich bass sound thanks to the echo of the church. I found the piece to
be rather relaxing while being impressed by the complexity. It is no surprise that so many modern
guitarists borrow heavy from

Racial Discrimination On Minority Groups
Practically, every country in the universe has a minority populace that can be either national, ethnic,
linguistic, or a religious group. Minority concerns have been on the itinerary of the United Nations
for more than half a century. In 1948, the General Assembly asserted that the United Nations could
not remain detached to the providence of minorities. That explicates why the 2005 World Summit
Outcome reaffirmed the rights of minorities and advocacy to the efforts of the United Nations
(Zanden and James 153). Does discriminationon minority groups have a basis in our daily lives?
It is from that rationale that this paper will endeavor at elucidating on the motives why I think
discrimination on minority groups has no grounds in our society. By venturing into various forms
of prejudice, such as racial differences, gay, lesbians, transgender, and the disabled people, we will
be able to understand the role these groups of people play in our society.
Racial prejudice is a stealth moral and a social cancer influencing individuals and populations
globally, especially racial minorities. It can be detected by the indexing of its many symptoms and
visitations that comprise trepidation, parochialism, alienation, segregation, prejudice, and loathing.
From a personal point of understanding, ignorance denotes the single reason racism exists
worldwide. If an individual grows up doing a concrete thing, his or her entire life and everyone
within their vicinity does the same thing, it may

Ai Weiwei Alcatraz Essay
Trace is currently part of Ai Weiwei s Alcatraz exhibition, @Large displayed in San Fransisco,
California USA. It includes 176 portraits made if legos, laid out flat across the expanse of the
floor. These portraits depict people from all around the world who have been or are imprisoned
or exiled because of their beliefs or affiliations, most of whom were prisoners of conscience and
human rights activists. Weiwei artwork, conceptually created a community of prisoners to large to
ignore. This installation links a crime with a name, a name with a face. It reveals oppressive acts
of governments from all parts of the world and suggests that the true heroes of our societies are
those advocating social reform. In this work, Weiwei is honouring those individuals.
Each piece was built by hand; small, independent parts were assembled to create a vast and
complex whole, reflecting the relationship between the individual and the collective, which is a
central dynamic in all societies, particularly that of contemporary China. Weiwei could not leave

and unjust treatment, something Weiwei is very familiar with. His artworks have moved away
from purely a method of self expression, rather they are a catalyst for global change.
Contemporary art, from his perspective, requires and sometimes creates, an audience devoted to
liberty; presenting his work in a prison, is evidence of this mindset. Weiwei reminds us to think
critically. Although many of the countries in which the prisoners represented in his works come
from are now free nations , we cannot forget a time when this did not apply; the works are held at
a notorious, former jail in America proves this. In addition to this, the fact that a work about
liberty is held in a prison is ironic in

Rikki Tavi Essay
Rikki Tikki Tavi is a short story by Rudyard Kipling. It is about a small mongoose named Rikki
Tikki, who is washed away from his family in a small flood. He lives in a bungalow with a small
family, and Rikki must fight the cobras threatening the family to keep them safe. This essay will
prove how Rikki Tikki Tavi is confident, determined, and very stealth like.
To start, Rikki showed that he was confident by proving to Nagaina that it was him that killed her
husband Nag, not the man. Rikki also shows that is confident when he says this to Nagaina, Come
then, Nagaina. Come and fight with me. You shall not be a widow long. (25)
Rikki shows pure confidence when he fights Nagaina because he will not think to low of himself.

...and when I am there, I must not let go. (22) Sometimes being determined takes a lot of work.
When Rikki fights Nagaina he follows her down the rat hole, ...And as she plunged into the rat

Two public policies that have been passed within the last fifty years that have shaped our social

affordable housing based on other, locally determined criteria, and that this definition is intended

Chivalry in Edmund Burke s Reflections on the Revolution...
Chivalry in Edmund Burke s Reflections on the Revolution in France
...But the age of chivalry is gone...
Amidst a wealth of metaphors and apocalyptic maxims, this line is perhaps the most memorable
from Edmund Burke s Reflections on the Revolution in France. He masterfully employs the
concept of chivalry to express his anti revolutionary sentiment, and he dramatically connects it to
images of land, sex, birth and money to express the widespread disorder that accompanies a loss
of chivalry. Nowhere is this idea more explicit than in the following passage:
... But the age of chivalry is gone. That of sophisters, oeconomists,
and calculators, has succeeded and the glory of Europe is extinguished for
ever. Never, never more,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What it does imply is that the glory and bond of Europe as a conglomerate in which England and
France are leaders may have been severed.
Furthermore, it is unlikely that Burke believes either of the aforementioned statements.
Subsequent lines in the essay like, ...we still bear the stamp of our forefathers and We have not
(as I conceive) lost the generosity and dignity of the fourteenth century... suggest that English
society still clings to its heritage and manners to some extent (18). Additionally, one cannot
overlook the prophetic nature of Burke s claims; he predicts what will happen if chivalry is lost.
He and the reader both recognize that chivalry survives at least in the minds of men and
sometimes even in the practice of men (like Burke who acts chivalrous by defending chivalry),
but also because Burke s motivation for writing his essay would be significantly diminished if the
revivification of chivalry were an impossibility. Similarly, if he truly believed that the glory of
Europe were gone forever and the ties permanently severed, it is less likely that he would choose a
Frenchman as the recipient of his philosophical letter.
To comprehend Burke s argument based on chivalry, one must ascertain the meaning that chivalry
holds for him. The language of the passage at hand unveils terms such as loyalty, dignified
obedience and proud

The Mafia Phenomenon in Italy
When non Italian citizens think about Mafia they picture huge villas in which bosses spend their
entire time surrounded by bodyguards, beautiful women, and a lot of drug. Despite this scenario
could resemble a perfect Hollywood movie, the Italian Mafia is all but showing one s power and
wealth. One of the most powerful but at the same time more hidden Mafias, is the Ndrangheta, the
Calabrian one. To reflect briefly on the etymology of the word Ndrangheta is not merely an
academic exercise, but could instead give us important cues on its historical analysis. The most
convincing etymological hypothesis is that the word Ndrangheta derives form the ancient Greek
term бјЂОЅОґПЃО±ОіО±ОёОЇО±, or andragathia, that means virile virtue, courage (La... Show

We can make a distinction between the Minor and the Major Society. The Picciotto is the first
step of the Ndrangheta s career in the Minor Society: he is merely an executor of orders, forced
to obey the high levels of the ndrina with the only hope of gaining immediate benefits. The
Camorrista is an affiliate that deserves a certain importance because he reached this position after a
period of training. He can complete missions that the Picciotto cannot afford. The Sgarrista is the
last step of the Minor society, and has the highest relevance. Within the major society we have a
huge variety of roles, among which we can mention the Vangelo (gospel), that is a person who has
sworn with his hand on the gospel. It is interesting to notice that all the people that don t belong to
the Ndrangheta are called the Contrasts, while those who are not members but sympathize with it
are called Honored Contrasts.( Roberto Saviano La Ndrangheta al Nord ) Another feature that
differences Ndrangheta from the other Italian Mafias is the role of females as members. Women
had an important role in this organization, not only because their marriages could strengthen the
ndrine, but also because they were admitted to the organization and could have climbed the
structure to the highest female role, the Sisters of Humility. This position requires to take care of the

Occupational Challenges And Stressors Faced By Paramedics
Emergency services, in particular the paramedic profession, are categorised amongst the most
stressful occupations worldwide (Rybojad, Aftyka, Baran Rzonca, 2016). Recurrent exposure to
emergency life threatening circumstances in concurrence with ongoing operational stressors can be
physically, mentally and emotionally tiring. Chronically, this will have detrimental effects upon
paramedics wellbeing and resilience and can result in reduced professional capability (Clompus
Albarran, 2015). This essay will decipher the specific occupational challenges and stressors faced by
paramedics. It will describe various opportunities for maintaining optimal mental health with short
termmanagement. Additionally, ways of building long term resilience to effect improvement of
personal and professional proficiency will be explored.
Stress is an elusive concept of an internal retort to an external stimulus (ref). A certain level of
stress is certainly required and beneficial in short term use but when prolonged and in excessive
amounts, it can cause stress reactions burnout and mental health issues such as, depression, anxiety,
insomnia and PTSD (ref). The job description of a paramedic is inclusive of a multitude of
stressors; such as responding to highly stressful, life threatening situations in compromising and
complex situations. Quick appraisals of the situation need to be made in timely manner in order to
administer lifesaving aid prior to transport to higher medical facilities

as a gift. Also the king makes Hop Frog take part in drinking when Hop Frog does not like to
drink: He knew that Hop Frog was no found of wine, for it excited the poor cripple almost to
madness (Poe 4). The king is proving that he is going to do anything he can to get a laugh at
someone, no matter how aggravating it is to the person being patronized. This makes the

Hop Frog, but standing up for Hop Frog did not end well for her: He pushed her violently from
him, and threw the contents of the brimming goblet in her face (Poe 6). After, Trippetta had to

Computer Technology And The Internet
Computer Technology and Internet The internet has changed the world like nothing before it. It has
changed communications and computer technologies, and allowed other technologies to come
along. The invention of the telegraph, telephone, radio, and the computer in the past brought about
the invention of the internet. Internet is one of the most successful commitments to research and
development of information capabilities. The first record of any type of social interaction on the
internet, through networking, was in August of 1962. It was actually a series of memos from
J.C.R. Licklider, which discussed his Galactic Network . This was a vision that all computers
would be globally connected so that everyone could access programs and data from anywhere.
J.C.R. was the first head of the computerresearch team at DARPA. In 1965, the first computers, a
TX 2 and a Q 32, were connected from Massachusetts to California using a low speed dial up
telephone line. This was the first connection of two computers to exchange information and run
the same programs. This concept turned into a large program, which in turn, was called
ARPANET . This ARPANET is what has lead us to today s internet. Google was officially a
domain name on September 7, 1997. Google was created by two college students at Stanford, and
was a play on the word googol . They used the play on googol as a mission objective to gain an

Tackling the Problem of Stinky Cars
Everybody loves that new car scent but it is to be expected that it will wear off after some time.
It will even get replaced by the smell of shopping bags, pet odour, perspiration, smoke and more. It
can be an uncomfortable and unpleasant experience to sit inside a stinky vehicle and removing the
stench will not be an easy job. However, with the right amount of effort and patience, you can
breathe easier in your car.
Find the root of the problem
Odours can originate from different sources so you should be sure to thoroughly check the interiors
of your vehicle. Start by inspecting the floors, seat corners, back pockets, trunk, glove
compartment, and so on. Depending on the make and model of your vehicle, ... Show more content

Next, treat the upholstery with a stain remover. If you find any visible stains, saturate the surface
then use cleaning tools to loosen the dirt. Our upholstery cleaner here at 1DryWash can be
particularly helpful for this so you might want to check it out. Oh and be sure to completely dry the
upholstery once you are done cleaning to avoid the growth of mould.
Pick your odour elimination method
Even after cleaning the interior, some smells will remain so further your efforts by using
household products to absorb the stench. You can perhaps leave an open container of dryer sheets
beneath the seats for instant relief. Or maybe you can sprinkle baking soda on the upholstery then
use a vacuum to collect the substance after half a day or so. A bag of charcoal briquettes can be
pretty handy for this purpose too.
Try to prevent it in the future
Now that you have worked to get rid of the odours in the interior, you should take preventative
measures so you will not have to deal with the same problem again. If you will be eating in your
vehicle, avoid leaving any containers and remove any leftovers. When a spill or something similar
occurs, clean it up right away to avoid stubborn stains or residue that will build up over time. Also,
think about how the weather can affect items in your car. Exposure to high levels of heat can melt
certain items and cause unusual scents

Washington. It was written during a time in which America s future was very uncertain. Wheatley
tries to capture the American spirit and show how the nation truly felt. She uses the theme of
freedom to embody what she thinks America is about as a country. The theme of a hero was also
used by Wheatley to show Washington as a hero throughout the poem. Both themes develop as the

himself. Wheatley talks of how Washington makes ev ry action let the goddess guide (40). The

However, it appears that it has been a family rivalry that sets the political climate more than
parties or ideology. The battle between the Marcos Family and the Aquino Family has become
epic. In spite of the fiscal irresponsibility of both Ferdinand and Imelda, it was probably the
assassination of Benigno S. Aquino Jr., who was the opposition leader and an outspoken critic
of Mr. Marcos, which led to the downfall of Ferdinand (Manlupig, 2011). When Corazon Aquino
died in 2009, there was an emotional appeal for her son, Benigno Aquino III, to run for the
Presidency. With a promise to curb the corrupt political culture and decrease poverty, he became
president in 2010 (Manlupig, 2011). While the Marcos family has never been convicted of any
wrongdoing, and the commission created in 1986 is finally being disbanded this year, it is
estimated that a total of $4 Million has been recovered including jewelry, money in a Swiss bank

Just as in Beckets Waiting for Goddot the characters embark on a game of passing time in order to reach their ultimate goal. Although they occur simultaneously, they have a plethora of ways in which they differ. There is however one thing they have in common the fact that their supply is essential to all forms of life. Nitrogen cycle encompasses large flows of nitrogen between the atmosphere, lithosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere. The vast amount of nitrogen can be found in the atmosphere, and it accounts for 80% of the atmospheric gases (Fields 2004). With the atmosphere being almost full of nitrogen, it would only make sense that there would be plenty of it to use (Fields 2004; Fowler et al. 2013; Pfeffer Hristov 2005). The most prominent evidence of nitrogen imbalance is water eutrophication, commonly caused by fertilizer and waste runoff. The reason why the N2 atmospheric nitrogen compound is not suitable for use, is because the two N atoms are linked together with an incredibly powerful triple bond which makes the molecule inert (unreactive). Its power and therefore energy release upon forming it, is so strong that it can even cause explosions. According to thermodynamics, breaking down bonds requires energy and forming bonds releases it. Therefore, the explosiveness of nitrogen compounds is caused by this huge release of energy that occurs when the nitrogen nitrogen triple bonds ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Differences Between Narnia Book And Movie The differences between book and movie, we think that the story of four children who go to live with an older man (a professor) in order to get away from the air raids that are occurring at home due to the war. The film begins with Lucy telling the others about Narnia and the wardrobe, and the events in Narnia with Mr. Tumnus are shown as a flashback. In the book, these events are shown before she tells everyone about them. The characters of Mrs. Macready, Father Christmas and the Giant Rumblebuffin are cut. (Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy appear to enter the wardrobe on their own, and Aslan gives them their gifts when they reach the Stone Table. However, Father Christmas is mentioned, and the jingle bells of his sled are heard.) Maugrim s name is changed to Fenris Ulf, like in the old American Version of the chronicles. While they are staying with the professor, they find a wardrobe in an empty room that leads them to another world called Narnia. The four children enter Narnia and free it from the spell that the white witch has cast upon it and in the process they become kings and queens of Narnia. There are several differences in the movie that are not present in the book, but they are very minor and do not change the story. For instance, when the white... A Planar Dual Band Filter based on the Reduced Length Parallel Coupled Lines Seungku Lee and Yongshik Lee, Member, IEEE Sowmya Ravichandran Review paper summary: A Dual Band Filter is obtained by cascading the reactively loaded parallel coupled lines of reduced length ( гЂ–90гЂ—^0).The proposed filter have same electrical performance at both the passbands at frequencies f1 and mf1, where m is the frequency of separation between the two passbands. A complete set of design equations are derived for arbitrary number of Filter stages using standard filter synthesis technique. This provides simple, low cost and high performance filter with multiple bands. Introduction: Multiple channels are used by most of the modern communication devices. So ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ports 2 and 3 can be made open or short. This design operates only at one frequency (f1).The equation for designing this filter is derived by even and odd mode analysis. The bandwidth of the filter with dual band is less compared to the conventional filter with single frequency of operation. This reduction in bandwidth is due to the Shunt stubs which are used to load the parallel coupled lines. Novel Design: The electrical length of the coupled line is reduced to гЂ–34.84гЂ—^0 . This decrease in length can be obtained only by increasing the frequency of separation m to 4.167.Hence the passband frequencies thus obtained are 2.4GHz and 10GHz.The even and mode impedances of the coupled line and the impedance of the shunt stub are calculated using the filter design equations. The shunt impedance value is found to be decreased when compared to filter with length гЂ–56.8421гЂ—^0.The bandwidth at both the frequencies are increased to 216MHz for a filter with 9% fractional bandwidth at 2.4GHz and 2.16% fractional bandwidth at 10GHz.Thus a reduced length filter would have increased bandwidth and decreased stub impedance. A graph is plotted for frequency Vs insertion loss. The insertion loss is found to be 0.66dB at 2.4GHz and 19.8dB at 10GHz.A better insertion loss of 2.9dB is obtained with a little shift in the frequency at 12.1GHz. The Siege of Port Arthur Once the city of Port Arthur was under siege at the hands of Togo s navy, and the First army was able to successfully land in Chemulpo, the Japanese set out to launch the second half of its joint campaign. The objective was to stage a limited war in an effort to further contain the Russian troops in the region and exhaust any possibility they had of rebuilding their resources to counter Japanese attack. Japan was smart, they knew they could not sustain fighting and continue to pull out victories if Russiawas able to replenish and rebuild. If the Russians were afforded the time they needed, the war may have taken a different turn for the Japanese. The first successful land attack began with the battle at Yalu river. The river was not far from Port Arthur, and its significance was also that it represented the border between Korea and China. The goal of the Russians was in contrast, as General Kuropatkin, Far East Army Russian Commander, was interested only in holding the line long enough to receive reinforcements by way of the Trans Siberian railway. In other words, the Russian army was on the defensive. He knew the process of replenishment would be a lengthy one, and the Japanese, under the leadership of General Kuroki, did as well. Symbolic interactionism is important in microsociology because interactionists emphasize the subjective meaning of human behaviors, while other theoretical perspectives like functionalism and conflict theory focus on society as a whole on the macrosociology level. Interactionists focus on the micro lens of society because they base their theory on the image of humans, rather than on their image of society. My Day Of School After Winter Break Numb Toes and Good Times There are not many things I love more than the smell of pine trees, the cold brisk wind of the first snowfall, and the joy of Christmas time. I can see myself now, getting released on my last day of school before winter break. Second grade might not have been a struggle, but a couple weeks off of school was just what a little me needed. I trudged home through the snow and slush. The sidewalks were almost non existent in Michigan winters; you had to search for footprints made by others or risk a rolled ankle. Muddy slush seeped into my snow boots, yet still I had a grin peeled across my face. This smile was mostly a result of the day approaching, December 25th. Christmas mostly meant a couple things to me when I was little, presents, candy, and my favorite vacation out west to the mountains. The Christmas card had already sent out that year, it was all seven of us; heads morphed onto the Little Rascals characters. Based on certain criteria these schemes are categorized as : 1. Handoff schemes based on Prioritization: 1.1 Non Prioritization schemes: This Scheme [16] has been employed by the typical radio technologies proposed for the Personal Communication Systems (PCS) operating at the band of 2 GHz. This scheme does not differentiate handoff and initial (new or originating) request calls. As long as, there is a channel available in the cell, either an originating or a handoff call request will be served. If there are not any free channels, the request is blocked immediately. Advantage: The channel allocation is relatively easy. Disadvantage: The main disadvantage of this scheme is that, since no priority is given to handoff request calls over originating calls, the forced termination probability is relatively higher than it is normally anticipated [16], and also there is no proper channel utilization.... • 33. Civil War Music Civil War Music Music was a vital part of the war. The Civil War had also been referred to America s great musical war. There was a rank for musicians. They played at recruitment rallies and kept up the troops morale. Their main job was to relay orders from higher ranking officers. The branches of the military determined which instrument made the calls. The drummer boys, fife players, buglers and the songs that they performed played a significant part in the war. Drummer boys enlisted to serve in the infantry. These boys were usually eighteen years old, but younger boys sometimes faked their age to enlist. They learned to relay orders to help soldiers during battle by sounding a call, which is a short tune with an assigned job or order. They had to go through meticulous training because they had to make the correct calls. With the battlefields covered in gun smoke, the soldiers relied on the drummer boys to sound the orders. If their calls were incorrect, they could confuse the soldiers or even give them the wrong orders. In addition to this, drummer boys had to make calls in camp. Some of the common calls were morning roll call, sick call, guard duty and taps. Being a drummer boy was only one of the different types of musicians that had these responsibilities. Musicians that play fife, commonly called fifers, marched alongside drums in battles. A fife is like a piccolo. It is also similar to a flute, but it has a much higher range. The fife was useful ... • 34. Florence, Italy, The Birthplace Of The Renaissance Florence, Italy is often referred to as the birthplace of the Renaissance because many early artists and writers in this period emerged from this city as well as the northern hills of Italy. Florence became a center for trade, with its most wealthy merchants selling wool. This source of income provided the rebirth of the city such as the building of large cathedrals, gilded mansions, and beautiful villas. During most of the Renaissance the Medici family controlled Florence, and through their political power encouraged the arts and the upcoming developments of the city. The most influential figure in the Italian court towards the evolution of the ballet de cour was Catherine Medici. While she held her title as the Queen Mother to her sons, she made sure that Italian pageants were a part of the French court and included daily dance classes as a requirement of the courtesans. At this time there was great conflict between the Catholics and the Huguenots (French Protestants). Catherine tried to bring peace between the two factions, but neither side wanted anything but complete victory. Catherine used dance as a way to bring harmony to disagreements, especially between religious groups, and to help bring both of the royal courts together. The Moresca is a style of dance that has been documented as early as the twelfth century, and began to flourish during the Renaissance when the Medici family was in power. The dance is meant to be performed by all types of people, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Heterodox Hero Of Horror In Francis Lawrence s I Am Legend Heterodox hero of horror With protagonist and offbeat hero; Dr Robert Neville, Francis Lawrence breathes a fresh nonconformity into the void of stereotypes that have too long permeated modern heroic cinema Hayden Newell writes. n decades past, the notion of an African American, I socially inept and mentally broken hero may very well have passed with a scornful chuckle from Hollywood s gentry. Tasked with reinvigorating Richard Matheson s sci fi horror page turner; I am Legend, Francis Lawrence puts this very notion into blockbuster filmic practice with 2007 s aptly titled; I am Legend. Lawrence rewrites the doctrine of supremacy, violence and impenetrability that has too long governed pop culture heroism, instead, defining his hero; protagonist and military virologist Dr Robert Neville, with normal imperfections and a humanness so brilliantly atypical to the banal muscly do gooder stereotype. Neville, pertinently portrayed by A lister Will Smith, is left miraculously immune to a cancer cure turned world ending virus, and takes upon himself the task of curing the remaining few, who have been rendered zombies by the fateful virus. Indeed, Lawrence opts for nonconformity over traditional definitions of the hero s journey , with Neville s quest commencing three years post apocalypse, and the plot meandering along a sweeping narrative punctuated by turbulent flashbacks to its punchy conclusion. Inevitably, archaic linear models stumble in their quest for relevance, as Lawrence favours realism and modernity over obsolete archetypes. It is abundantly clear that Neville is no traditional pro violence man of action, one may even argue that Neville is constructed as a tragic hero with the loss of his family, or anti hero with his mental struggle, and certainly, the protagonist exhibits certain traits that may allow these thoughts some weight. Though these time honoured archetypes fall short of defining ultimately, the heterodoxy and rawness of Lawrence s hero, Neville is a tormented man; a hero whose external battles dwindle in significance when compared with his mental struggle, and whose uniqueness in itself challenges cinematic dogma. Lawrence allows the viewer little time to settle in, launching directly into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The question whether advancements in science and technology make the religious explanations of reality is one of the big question and has triggered heated discussions and debates (Tremlin, 2012). I support the great work of world s top higher learning institutions and universities in the fields such as theoretical cosmology, physics, cognitive science, evolutionary biology and social science that relate to forgiveness, love, purpose, creativity, nature and origin of religious beliefs. Theories of the way of primitive religion have moved between two shafts: one intellectualistic and discerning, the other mental and nonsensical. Minority concerns have been on the itinerary of the United Nations for more than half a century. In 1948, the General Assembly asserted that the United Nations could not remain detached to the providence of minorities. That explicates why the 2005 World Summit Outcome reaffirmed the rights of minorities and advocacy to the efforts of the United Nations (Zanden and James 153). Does discriminationon minority groups have a basis in our daily lives? It is from that rationale that this paper will endeavor at elucidating on the motives why I think discrimination on minority groups has no grounds in our society. By venturing into various forms of prejudice, such as racial differences, gay, lesbians, transgender, and the disabled people, we will be able to understand the role these groups of people play in our society. Amidst a wealth of metaphors and apocalyptic maxims, this line is perhaps the most memorable from Edmund Burke s Reflections on the Revolution in France. He masterfully employs the concept of chivalry to express his anti revolutionary sentiment, and he dramatically connects it to images of land, sex, birth and money to express the widespread disorder that accompanies a loss of chivalry. Nowhere is this idea more explicit than in the following passage: ... But the age of chivalry is gone. What it does imply is that the glory and bond of Europe as a conglomerate in which England and France are leaders may have been severed. Furthermore, it is unlikely that Burke believes either of the aforementioned statements. Subsequent lines in the essay like, ...we still bear the stamp of our forefathers and We have not (as I conceive) lost the generosity and dignity of the fourteenth century... suggest that English society still clings to its heritage and manners to some extent (18). Additionally, one cannot overlook the prophetic nature of Burke s claims; he predicts what will happen if chivalry is lost. He and the reader both recognize that chivalry survives at least in the minds of men and sometimes even in the practice of men (like Burke who acts chivalrous by defending chivalry), but also because Burke s motivation for writing his essay would be significantly diminished if the revivification of chivalry were an impossibility. Similarly, if he truly believed that the glory of Europe were gone forever and the ties permanently severed, it is less likely that he would choose a Frenchman as the recipient of his philosophical letter. To comprehend Burke s argument based on chivalry, one must ascertain the meaning that chivalry holds for him. This was the first connection of two computers to exchange information and run the same programs. This concept turned into a large program, which in turn, was called ARPANET . This ARPANET is what has lead us to today s internet. Google was officially a domain name on September 7, 1997. However, it appears that it has been a family rivalry that sets the political climate more than parties or ideology. The battle between the Marcos Family and the Aquino Family has become epic. In spite of the fiscal irresponsibility of both Ferdinand and Imelda, it was probably the assassination of Benigno S. Aquino Jr., who was the opposition leader and an outspoken critic of Mr. Marcos, which led to the downfall of Ferdinand (Manlupig, 2011). When Corazon Aquino died in 2009, there was an emotional appeal for her son, Benigno Aquino III, to run for the Presidency. With a promise to curb the corrupt political culture and decrease poverty, he became president in 2010 (Manlupig, 2011).
