Space Of Merchants
Comparison of Technological Change in Political in 1953 to 2017
The Space of Merchants is a short story by Frederick Pohl and C. M. Kornbluth. It
is one in the collection of stories in American Science Fiction, 195. The Space
Merchants is most famous science fiction, during this time period. This, the first of
two volumes surveying the decade s futures and malleable selves. Frederick Pohl and
C. M. Kornbluth, s The Space Merchants (19533), acclaimed in its day by Kingsley
Amis as the best science fiction novel so far, brought a ferocious, satiric edge to its
depiction of a future world dominated by multinational advertising agencies
(American Science Fiction Novel, Jack book ). This means that The Space Merchants

This enhancement of good housing is proved when the narrator said, I ve been
thinking about our conference room, he said, and we all looked around at it. The
room isn t big, it isn t small: say ten by twelve. But it s cool, well lighted, and most
imposingly furnished. The air recirculators are cleverly hidden behind animated
friezes ; the carpeting is thick and soft; and every piece of furniture is constructed
from top to bottom of authentic, expertized, genuine tree grown wood ( Pohl and
Kornbluth 4). This quote shows how this house is built; it is a modern house. The list
of the things incorporated in this kind of building shows that there is some changes
when compared to early in the 1920s. For example, in 1953 there was the air

example, today s houses have stairs, elevators, automatic air conditioning, and
bathroom flash automatically, just to mention a

The objectives have been created and detriment and the next step is to weight the
importance of each objective as they are not equally important. After an extensive
discussion, we decided to use the percentage method to incorporate the different
degree of important of each objective. We decided that Number on internet users is
the most important and we gave it 50% as it is crucial for RedBox s new location to
have less internet users which means more demand and more profit. Limited number
of theaters take the second spot with 30%. Limited number of theaters means clients
prefer an indoor entertainment. Finally, Poor weather weathers will evoke user to

Hence, China, Japan, and Russia have a greater percentage while Russia have a lower
percentage than the ideal VALUE. To scale these number as a percentage of the
ideal we divided the value of each option by the ideal value as it shown below in
figure 3.
IdealOptionPercentage
1.48Japan 1.081.8/1.48= 1.222 (1.22) = 0.78
1.48China 2.02.0/1.48= 1.352 (1.35) = 0.65
1.48Russia 1.361.36/1.48= 0.922 (0.92) = 1.08
On the account that lower value indicates lower internet users, we converted the
values by subtracting the quotient from 2. As a results, Japan achieved 78% of the

Diction In Things Not Seen By Andrew Clements
Family is the most important thing in the world (Princess Diana). When Bobby

parents help him along the way but along comes ups and down in a rocky
relationship. He then figures out how he turned invisible with help by people around
him. Bobby doesn t feel like his parents care but he then realizes that they do more
than ever. In Things Not Seen by Andrew Clements the author uses diction to convey
the theme of family.
One example of diction used by Clements when Bobby s parents got in a car crash.

The Importance Of Computational Thinking
Introduction
Computational Thinking, first introduced by Jeanette Wing (2006), a computer
science researcher at Carnegie Mellon University, as a strategy to solve problems
where computing is part of the solution. Computers help make daily discoveries in
almost all areas of society expanding our understanding of the world. Problem solving
using the power of computers requires teaching students how to confront problems in
a way that creates these solutions (Wing, 2006, p. 33). In her article Computational
Thinking, Wing proposes that this strategy should be a fundamental skill, just like
reading and writing, a foundation for every student (p. 33).
Fundamental Skill
Computational thinking was not a new idea in 2006. Envisioning the potential of
computers in learning, Seymour Papert, a mathematician and learning theorist, in the
early 1960s recognized that computers could be used not just to deliver information
and instruction, but also to transform learning. He was a pioneer of children using
computers as instruments for learning and for enhancing creativity, innovation, and
concretizing computational thinking. (Seymour Papert)
Papert earned two doctorates in mathematics, but what inspired him was the four
years of work under Jean Piaget at the International Centre of Genetic Epistemology,
University of Geneva. Piaget s influences are evident in Papert s work on how
children create a sense of their world. (Blikstein, 2013,) The constructivist principles

On the Origin of Species
In his On the Origin of Species, written in 1859, Charles Darwin clearly explained the
gradual progression toward the speciation of organisms with his five main principles:
variation, inheritance, competition, selection, and propagation. Darwin hesitated to
publish his findings because he understood that his findings were based on the animal
kingdom and on an evolutionary process that had to have spanned millennia. He
specifically did not think that his discoveries were applicable to the evolutionof
human society. Contrary to Darwin s preference, Herbert Spencer did exactly what
Darwin hoped to avoid by publishing numerous works supporting his own, new thesis
of Social Darwinism, which claimed that Darwin s principles of evolution... Show

He lived off of his family s wealth and instead of working, he devoted himself
wholly to his studies. In 1896, he published his most comprehensive work, The
Synthetic Philosophy, a work encompassing many of his theories on society,
evolution, morality, and psychology. Spencer died December 8, 1903 while working
on his autobiography, which was then published in 1904. Through his anti clerical
and rejectionist upbringing, Spencer was raised to attach to a theory like Darwinian
evolution. In his first published article on the development of Social Darwinism,
entitled The Development Hypothesis, 1852, Spencer established his lack of faith
and claimed that creationism was a theory which is supported by no facts at all.
He further elaborated on the issue and asserted that there must be another mode by
which the world was created. He even went as far as to write that, if he were to
interrogate any leading geologist or physiologists they would be forced to confess
that the notion was put into his mind in childhood as part of a story which he now
thinks is absurd. Spencer believed that creationism was not a viable medium on
which to base scientific thought, and as a result, he was forced to find another way
to explain the creation of the world. For this reason, he was drawn to evolutionary
Darwinism. Spencer however, could not just accept Darwinian evolution as fact.
Rather, he expanded the theory of Darwinian evolution to meet his own
Macbeth Ambition And Ambition
Ambition Aside Humanity
Right now I am choosing which universities I will apply to. I know I have put in
enough hard work to be near the top of my class, and I will soon be reaping the
rewards of my ambition by attending a university that will help pave my way to a
good career and a happy life. Some may call me overly ambitious, but I know what I
want, and I know what I must do to get there. However, I would like to think that my
ambition is a little nobler than what drove Macbeth to his ultimate destruction I d like
to think that my goal is moral, and I will not give up my humanity to achieve my
goal. In William Shakespeare s play, Macbeth, ambition is the impetus for Macbeth
to initially act, and ambition leads to his ruination. While Macbeth appears noble
and honest at the beginning of the play, Shakespeare uses asides and soliloquys to
communicate that Macbeth first kills for his own ambition but later kills because
ambition corrupted his morals, creating his own unraveling, an unraveling that
happens regardless of the other, exterior, factors that influenced him. Once one of
the Weird Sisters prophecies becomes true, Macbeth thinks about killing King
Duncan in order to fulfill his own ambitious goal. Shortly after the Weird Sisters
greet Macbeth as Thane of Glamis, Thane of Cawdor, and King, Macbeth gives
little credence to their prophecy. But when Ross tells he received the title, Thane of
Cawdor, Macbeth immediately yield[s] to the suggestion / Whose horrid
image...unfix[es] [his] hair (1.3.147 48). This suggestion he yields to is the murder
of King Duncan. No murder led to Macbeth becoming Thane of Cawdor, but he
feels immediately compelled to kill King Duncan to become king himself.
Shakespeare gives Macbeth an aside to establish that he initially thinks of murdering
King Duncan before his wife has any influence over his thoughts. If Macbeth did not
think such violent thoughts on his own, he would appear weak and malleable
because the action would appear to be planned and encouraged entirely by Lady
Macbeth. Instead, Shakespeare uses this aside to reveal that Macbeth is ambitious
from the start of the play, and his actions throughout the rest of the play reveal his
decaying moral responsibility

Reasearch on the Brain Functions of Autistic Children
In the late 1990 s, researchers from the University of California, San Diego wanted to
know if there was connection between mirror neurons and autism.1 They
hypothesized that since these neurons play a role in a person s ability to feel
empathy, they found it sensible to think it might be the cause of autistic symptoms.1
Autismis a disorder found among children where areas of the brainfail to work thus
makes it difficult for individuals to communicate.4
A researcher, Giacomo Rizzolatti at the University of Parma Italy, conducted a study
in the 1990 s studying Macacas. His group studied the motor command neuron from
the premotor cortex. The neuron is part of the frontal lobe that is responsible for
voluntary movements. Electrodes were hooked up to the brain and the macacas had
to perform goal oriented actions.1 When a macaca reached for a peanut, the same
exact neuron from another monkey observing them was fired also. This action
surprised Giacomo and his colleagues. They found out the neuron is also found in the
same regions as the human cortex1. Further research of the mirror neurons were
shown to be located in different parts of the brain such as the insular and cingulate
cortices. They found out that the neurons at the anterior cingulate cortex are fired
when a person is in pain and the same goes for the person who watches them1. It was
concluded that mirror neurons are seen to be performing similar functions that is
found in autism meaning that if there was a
John Beckett s The Glorious Revolution
John Beckett mentions that the Glorious Revolution has been considered a historical
event related to the political issues. The main target of this historical event was to
create a commercial freedom in Europe. After this revolution was done, trade
relations in Europe went up, and the Bill of Rights was also created in 1689. Today,
the Bill of Rights is shown and knowns that it was the first building stone for the
British constitution because it limited the monarchic power. During the eighteenth
century, the period of the Age of Enlightenmentis considered from 1713 to 1789
because Anthony Pagden states that Europe was like a republic of states, and it was
like a union acting together and talking with one voice. The Age of Enlightenment
was totally an act of improvement in trade, preventing and thwarting religion related
wars, and monarchic rules. E. P. Thompson mentions that the first industrial
revolutionoccurred in England, and he mentions that there were not many modern
things, but there was only a clock making industry. The discoveries of new places,
peoples and things also brought the Agricultural revolution, financial improvement,
and the Enlightenment and the Scientific progress, and all of these new findings and
innovations triggered to form the Industrial Revolution in England. Hence, the
Glorious Revolution, the Age of Enlightenment and the Industrial Revolution should
be considered as the first historical roots of the European Unionbecause these

Charmed: Feminist Theory of Witchcraft and Sisterhood
On the surface of the American television series Charmed is the story of three ideal
sisters with ideal lives. Piper, Phoebe and Prue Halliwell are wives with children and
careers, and all three of them are witches the charmed ones whose powers with
magic are stronger when they work together. Feminist theory is inscribed in the
narrative world of these three sisters. As female leads, they are portrayed as
transcending the typical media boundaries of females. (The Artifice). Piper, Phoebe
and Prue all challenge the various stereotypes previously attached to the portrayal of
women in narratives.

The Avatars, for example, all magical creatures who once were rulers of the entire
world. Upon their demise, their power was tested, and a potion was created which
was so powerful that it was the only thing in the world that could kill an Avatar.
Like the sisterhood of Phoebe, Piper and Prue, if an Avatar dies it affects all of them,
and eventually exposes their weaknesses individually and as a group.
The magical creatures that exist in Charmed are very different from the Avatars. It
is understood whether a magical creature is good or bad in their intentions and in
their nature; but this is not the case for the Avatar collective. They are on their own
agenda. They never claim to be good or bad. Unlike the sisters, the Avatars are not
looking to save innocent lives or fulfill prophecies they actually have no agenda at
all. Ultimately, their goal is to rule the world however they want to. To them, the only
thing that mattered was attaining a perfect world with no intentions of being good or
evil. They linger and they wait patiently. Although they are persistent, they are not
intrusive on others, instead they will only appear and act whenever someone is
ready for them and a Utopian world order.
The dynamics in the series are highly political and they represent real world
constructs. They raise a question of immortality and humanity and breaks many
moral codes. The series reveals the complications of earthly power to its audience and
it resolves these by diminishing the
The Canadian Charter Of Rights And Freedoms
The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms is an important milestone in Canadian
history. An effort through rigorous debate and compromise gave birth to this
document that defines our collective values and principles by guaranteeing and
protecting the fundamental rights of its citizens. Prior to the Charter, there was no
gurantee in Canadathat rights and freedoms would not be taken away by legislation.
The Charter also allows courts to render the constitutional duty so that any decisions
made are consistent with those rights and freedoms. The Charter was established
firmly in The Constitution Act, 1982 , with the declaration of this act Canada
escaped from the severe practice of concept of parliamentary supremacy. The Charter
has an enormous effect on court s decision power to award justice to important and
debatable issues about policies that affect public. In awarding the verdict courts are
not even reluctant to rewrite laws that violate the testament of the Charter. The judges
have a duty to regulate the rulings of both provincial and federal governments which,
disagree with the root value of Charter. The Charter will always remain a matter of
debate among different schools of thought. The opponents of the Charter argue that it
weakens the essence of a democracy by striking down legislations passed by an
assembly with elected members of parliament. While on the other hand it can be
argued that a written constitution in a modern democratic society strengthen its

One must consider many factors when selecting a material for a shoulder bag. Often,
expending little thought to the matter beforehand, it s usually only after making the
purchase that issues arise. Among many thoughts, resistance to weather is a very
important aspect for many photographers; however, the intended use is instrumental
in making an informed decision. Available options include the 100% canvas

manufactured with a water repellant coating, either bag becomes a viable option.
Purchasing the pinestone, durability of the material weighed profoundly in my

Gender Segregation And Gender Roles
Many writers deepen the meaning of their works through social issues they tackle
within their writing. Each social issue that a writer writes about is most often one
that is impactful on their life. Most often authors who are African American write
about racial segregation, or perhaps a religious man writes about the religious
persecution he faces. People remember authors, such as Lorraine Hansberry, for
writing about both racial segregation and the changing role of women in society.
This is evident in A Raisin in the Sun. In her A Raisin in the Sun, Hansberry makes
use of genderroles as part of characterization and the plot; she does this by switching
the roles of genders, showing the different views on gender roles, and the battle...

During the 1950 60s, it is uncommon to find women going to college. Even more so,
it is extremely rare to find an African Americanwomen there. Women are still found

Barbarians And Goths
In Roman terms the word barbarian had a basic meaning, they didn t speak their
language, didn t live in cities and were agriculturalists. They were the opposites of the
Roman Empire was.
The first example of the Barbarian group was the Goths. The Goths and Romans
were always at peace for centuries. So at peace in fact that the Goths were paid to
protect the Empire borders. It all changed when the West decided to stop paying the
Goths. Making the Goths extremely poor and resulted in a revolt by the Goths. This
led to a young Goth warrior named Alaric to seize an opportunity. He led the Goths
on a campaign across the Western Roman Empire, only to be stopped by Bribes from
the Romans. This was significant because it showed how weak and defenseless
The Problem With Government Issued Foreign Aid
The Problem with Government Issued Foreign Aid
It is widely held that the United States should give money to aid third world countries
living in poverty because helping the less fortunate is a strong value in American
culture. The U.S. has an interest in helping third world countries escape poverty and
elevating them so they may contribute to the growing world state. Therefore,
America believes that sending a big fat check to the governments of these
impoverished nations is the best way to help. However, all this gifted money does is
create increased third world poverty by feeding corrupt governments and diminishing
economic growth. This argument has been in the back of a lot of American s mind
for a while now, and people normally want one of three things. They want to decrease
foreign aid, or they want to keep foreign aid the exact same, or they want to spend the
same amount of money but distribute it different ways. The last viewpoint is what I
want to focus on. Foreign aid needs to be changed into a more productive way for
these developing countries to get out of poverty without corrupting their government
or hurting their economic growth. Government issued foreign aid first started after
the end of World War II when Secretary of State George Marshall sent money to
European countries in order to help them rebuild. This assistance helped to strengthen
European economies and also stabilize their countries. Then in 1961, President
Kennedy signed the Foreign Assistance
Pro And Cons For Christopher Columbus
Christopher Columbus, born in 1451 in Genoa, Italy became an American
ProtГ©gГ©. All over the world people believed Columbus to be the finest explorer.
He had numerous discoveries in his lifetime and was fancied by many rulers who
sought what he sought. However, he had very high demands on what he would
receive if sponsored, so many foreign rulers rejected him and his demands. He was a
Catholic and this stood out to Queen Isabella because she wanted to spread
Catholicism to non believers. This gave Columbus a better standing with the queen.
In Spain, a new federal power was beginning to drive the Moors out of the Iberian
Peninsula and this would increase the availability of resources to the monarchs on
this land. This involved the king and it pushed him towards sponsoring Columbus
because he was so familiar with the land. They soon agreed with all of Columbus
claims and sponsored his voyage in search of a water route from Europeto the East
Indies. Columbus was foreign to the country of Spain, so this leaves people to
wonder why would Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand sponsor a foreign explorer
for such an important voyage? Since Columbus was not from Spain he was
considered a foreign explorer. A monarchfrom another country would only want a
foreign explorer if they had expertise in their field of voyaging. The explorers would
most likely be chosen if they shared common interests with the monarch, because they
would help benefit the ruler while receiving their own
Organized Crime and Youth Gangs
Organized Crime and Youth Gangs
The FBI defines organized crime as any group of individuals jointly and
systematically engaged in criminal activity for the purpose of making money (FBI,
n.d.a). The FBI also provides links to various organized criminal groups on their
website, with most being defined by race or ethnicity. The most famous of these
groups in the United States is the Italian Mafia or La Cosa Nostra, which is
translated as this thing of ours (FBI, n.d.b).
The FBI identifies four distinct Italian mafia groups, the La Cosa Nostra (Sicilian
Mafia), Camorra (Neapolitan Mafia), Calabrian (Calabria Mafia), and the Sacra
Corona Unita (United Sacred Crown based in the Puglia region) (FBI, n.d.b). Of
these, the American La Cosa Nostra has been the most successful organized crime
group in the U.S. and over the decades has severed controlling ties with Sicily. The
American La Cosa Nostra is involved primarily in drug trafficking, money laundering,
and various other racketeering crimes, and operates on an international level across
North and South America.
The Italian Mafia was formed and molded into its current form over the past 3,000
years in response to recurrent invasions by marauding armies (FBI, n.d.b). The
formation of these tight knit extended family groups helped ensure their survival and
established social rules that endured through the millennia. Today, there are
approximately 25,000 members worldwide, with 3,000 living in the U.S.

Example Of Probabilistic Approach
Probabilistic Approach
In addition to univariate analysis and discriminant analysis, researchers also tried to
explore probabilistic prediction of corporate bankruptcy. Zavgren (1985) opined that
the models which generate a probability of failure are more useful than those that
produce a dichotomous classification as with multiple discriminant analysis.
Option to Default Methodology
Merton (1974) applied the option pricing method developed by Black and Scholes
(1973) to the valuation of a leveraged firm and relates the risk of default to the
capital structure of the company. According to this model, The firm s equity can
be seen as a European call option on the firm s assets with a strike price equal to
the book value of the firm s liabilities. The option like property of the firm s equity
follows from the absolute priority rule with respect to which the shareholders can be
seen as residual claimants with limited liability. This limited liability gives the
shareholders the right but not the obligation to pay off the debt holders and to take
over the remaining assets of the firm.

ID3 uses entropy to measure the values of each attribute. After that it derives rules

training sample contained 8 bankrupt and 15 non bankrupt firms. For the holdout
samples, the rules derived by ID3 correctly classified the bankrupt/non bankrupt firms
with perfect accuracy and 87.5% accuracy for the loan
Humble And The Mysterious Phantom
Humble and the Mysterious Phantom
Once upon a time there lived a creature that had been sighted to be a scaly monster;
he lived in the land called Shadow Mist. The land was grey, it was so grey it looked
like there was gravel everywhere. I can t even begin to tell you how awful the trees
looked; they looked so brown like they were all painted in mud.
The creature always slept but, even though the people knew this they never
ventured to the land. There was a lizard called Humble, he was a dark green lizard
with scales all over him. He always loved to help out the town s people. The town s
people would always describe him as their rock (tough guy). This town was a
magical and wondrous town it was full of cookies. The air was heavy like
something horrific was about to happen. The town sounded like a slithering simple
snake(whispering). The houses and streets were made of cookies and looked so tasty
which made you want to taste them. Humble s life couldn t be more perfect until...
The next day... petrifying screams were heard all throughout Cookie Town. Not a
soul stirred. There was absolutely nothing, only the trees whistling. It felt so quiet
like everyone was dead. Humble, was wondering where everyone had gone until he

Example Of A Dream Analysis Paper
All my life, for as long as I can remember, dreams have perpetually found their way
into becoming the focus of conversations between my relatives. Dreams hold a
significant meaning in our culture and often given spiritual value. I have experienced
the interpretation of dreams to begin as a relational piece on the main subject of a
conversation. For instance, at some time during a talk with each other, the topic of
the conversation will spontaneously transform into the focus creating irrelevance to
the original point of conversation, until the dreamer finishes recounting the dream.
Likewise, the dreamer may begin a conversation by making comparisons to details of
a casual conversation and speak about a dream he/she had either the night before,...

It was very windy and I was tree to touch it as I was being instructed to. As I
approached the enormous oak tree, I started to notice that the tree trunk was
smooth and had the feel and look of a mushroom, and on the other side of the tree
trunk was burnt, black, and charred. All of a sudden, an arrow like image flew in
front of me, and all I could hear in my mind was what I understood to be the name
or word Asa , then the words that kept repeating themselves repeatedly were lake
and water . At first, I ignored it, but then I realized it wanted me to remember what
it was saying as long as my mind was using this active state of imagery. When I
researched the details about the tree and its cultural significance, I came across an
interpretation by a dream analyst (Crisp), which says that among other significant
symbols, the great tree is one of the symbols of the Self. Since the Self represents
the wholeness of our being, what I have come to understand that the side of the tree
trunk, which was smooth, like the texture of a mushroom, it is a symbol, which
indicates more knowledge or information. The mushroom can also symbolize the
human soul. Before I began this research, one of the students taking the class
stopped me and he felt he needed to tell me his name was Asa . He called it
synchronicity. I also researched the name Asa and in the Bible, and he is

Analysis of Corporate and Business Strategies
Executive Summary
The following report will describe an overview of the current environment and how
it is affecting the hotel industry, and then will be preceded by a corporate level and
business level strategy analysis. The company that will be the subject of the paper
will be Hyatt Global Corporation, and its brand, Hyatt Regency.
In the PESTE (Political, Economic, Socio Cultural, Technological, Ecological)

(France s public deficit= 8% of its GDP, USA=9.9% /References 3 4). The welfare
systems are being strained and this creates a climate of fear. A recent example would
be the reform of the retirement pensions in France and Greece, which both led to
major strikes.
However, while governments are trying to cut down on expenses, they are also
trying to increase their revenues through taxes. Barack Obama for instance proposes
$989 billion in new taxes over the course of the next 10 years, and most of these
taxes are directly related to individuals (Reference 5). Therefore, this will seriously
affect the buying power of consumers, and we can expect consequences in the
hospitality industry.
Another major political trend which is emerging notably, because of the unhappy
electorates, is a movement towards extremism from most political parties, who are
trying to satisfy people who are still afraid of the economic recession, the outsourcing
of jobs or the terrorist threat for example. The success of the extreme right wing in
Sweden recently is a good illustration of this phenomenon.
Economic Analysis
From studying the economic growth we can see that the general trend changed
from an increase of 3.1% for OCDE countries in 2006, to 2.7% in 2007, which
followed with a drop in 2008, and with the recession proceeded with a percentage of
0.3% in 2009 ( 3.4%)(Reference 6).
This drastic decrease was a result of the subprime crisis, which impacted the current

Women in Technology and the Meritocracy Myth
Although many women make a career in the technology industry, it is shown that
there is a low percentage of women in the technology industry due to the
meritocracy myth. The meaning of the word meritocracy [mer i tok ruh see] is
government or the holding of power by people selected according to merit (Oxford
Dictionaries). The technology industry can be considered as a virtual world with
many different career areas one can pursue with the right set of skills and
knowledge. The meritocracy myth can be thought of paper going through a shredder
as what was on the paper does not matter because all of the little shreds are viewed
the same. In most cases women are often victims of sexism because they feel as if
they must work harder than men do, they receive lower pay, and have stereotypes
based on their gender.
Sexism is shown in the technology industry by how most women do not get paid
equally as their male co workers, if anything they get lower salaries According to
an annual salary survey of about 4,000 gaming professionals by Game Developer
magazine, female animators made $26,000 less than their male counterparts in 2001
(Tasneem Raja). The different treatment women get by the low salaries they make
compared to their male co workers is sexist to them, sexism is described as prejudice
or discrimination based on sex, or the unfair treatment of people because of their sex
(Merriam Webster).

Lets explore deeper into these two conditions (Scott, B., Gordon, N. M. 2014).
Hypothermia is caused when a person is exposed to low environmental
temperatures that may be sufficient enough to lower ones body heat. Hypothermia
becomes a series condition when you re body temperature gets below 95 Fahrenheit
when the body reaches 90 degrees Fahrenheit the normal shivering reaction ceases,
at this point a person condition will warrant immediate emergency treatment. Some
other side effects of hypothermia is mental confusion, and can cause the heart to
stop if blood flows back to the heart to fast. Hypothermia really affects the old and
the very young. (Hypothermia 2014) What is frostbite? According to Chesemore the
definition of frostbite is Localized freezing of tissue, usually of extremities exposed
to low temperatures, that results in ice crystals forming within cells, thereby killing
them (Chesemore, D. P. page 1.). What happens first is your skin will become very
cold and red, then numb, hard and then pale. Frostbite is most common on these areas

Peristalsis And Involuntary Muscle Contractions
The Alimentary Canal is a system which contains different sections and organs that
work together to digest substances. Food substances pass through the alimentary
canal which starts at the mouth and eventually ends up at the anus. Ingestion is the
consumption of a substance through the mouth e.g. eating or drinking. The mouth
increases surface area for chemical digestionas Salivary glands produce Saliva which
contains amylase to breakdown starch. Saliva also contains mineral salts to keep PH
constant and Mucin to make food slimy and easier to pass down the oesophagus.
Peristalsis is the movement of food by coordinated involuntary muscle contractions.
Peristalsis is used in the oesophagus, stomach, and intestines to transport food.

Your Smartphone Is Ruining Your Posture And Your Mood
Posture can affect your social standing in numerous ways. It also affects your
health, mood, and appearance. Amy Cuddy s article use a psychological reason to
why posture affects your social standing. Jane E. Brody s articles uses ethics,
Glenn E. Weisfield and Jody M. Beresford use a logical reason in their research

article makes the most credible argument. In Your iPhone Is Ruining Your Posture
and Your Mood , Amy Cuddy brings up what everyone is so attached to, which are
phones. Cuddy gives her readers an example of why smartphones are affecting our
posture by stating When we re sad, we slouch. We also slouch when we feel scared
or powerless. (Cuddy, 2015). She includes this, giving her readers a relatable
example, using pathos. She adds a study that has been shown to people, published in
2010 in the official journal of the Brazilian Psychiatric Association, found that
depressed patients were more likely to stand with their necks bent forward, shoulders
collapsed and arms drawn in toward the body. (Cuddy, 2015). Cuddy presents... Show

her article. In a study of 110 students at San Francisco State University, half of
whom were told to walk in a slumped position and the other half to skip down a

to have a connection with her readers by giving an example of a personal problem
she deals with, As a short person who is prone to back pain, I have long been
aware of the value of good posture she knows within seconds of sitting in a car
whether it will hurt my back or neck; when renting, I test car after car until I find one
that suits my diminutive frame. (Brody, 2015). Brody shows evidence using a fact
and by using logos but doesn t show too much of the use of pathos which would make
her argument somewhat
The Invention Of Skateboard In The 1940 s
Around the time of the 1940 s was when the first ever skateboard was made. In the
early 1940 s and 1950 s many surfers in California wanted something to do when the
waves were flat which mean, they weren t able to surf. The people who supposedly
came up with the idea were a few surfers who wanted to be able to do something
similar as they did in the water. Skateboarding history still has a mysterious origin.
No one to this day knows who actually invented the skate board. Several people have
claimed to have made the skateboardbut nothing has been proven. In 1965 skate
boarding s popularity began to reach its s top. First skateboarders started with

Some skateboarders also own longboards, and love longboarding just as much as
skateboarding. Some skaters even believe that longboarding is the best way to
earn how to ride. This makes sense to me because longboards are usually more
stable and secure because of their length. And not only can they be used for
enjoyment, but they also help you save gas when you commute. An old school
skateboard is extremely different from the skateboards of today. Old school
skateboards normally are talking about skateboards that were popular in the past
and are not really used today. They are sometimes known as classic skateboards.
The term Old school skateboards is usually used to talk about any skateboard that
goes back to the 1980 s. No matter what skateboards have been around sense the

Earl Rochester Case Study
What Earl Rochester is trying to explain in his argument is that he wants to make a
law that help people drink safe. If the U.S was to take in his idea and use it i think it
would be very effective law on or state. So I strongly agree with his idea because we
can prevent a lot of accident dealing with alcohol. Alcohol have always had a pull on
the U.S because we have huge death rate from it. We can save a lot of our teens and
elders with this drinking license
Under age drinking have always had a huge affect on this country. We have had
teens that get drunk That s under age drinking and driving and die because they can
t control their liquor. With us tightening the law up on drinking we can lower the
death rate on or state. Too many teens can get access to alcohol easy and i feel like it

Also there should be a limit on alcohol i don t think a person should drink without
being watched. If you have a liquor lincese you should only be able to drink at a
bar because the bartender will know when you had enough. Selling alcohol out of
stores is also a huge problem because Thats how teen get access to it. People that is
21 and older buy liquor for young individual and they drink to much and lose there
life. By us selling liquor out the stores we re going to keep hurting or country

Earl Rochester have a good reason to have a argument on this problem. Because the
U.S have went to many years without fixing this big problem. We should take his
idea into consideration because with his facts and claims it can really help the U.S.

Richardson-Dushman Theory Of Thermionic Emission
Use the Richardson Dushman theory of thermionic emission to determine the
emission current density for a tungsten filament at a temperature of 2600K
Thermionic emission is the process by which free electrons are emitted from a metal
when an external energy is applied towards the metal. When a smaller proportionate
heat energy is applied to the metal, the valence electron will gain enough energy and
break the bond from the parent atom. Once broken free, the free electrons in the
metal may have some kinetic energy. However, there is not enough to escape the
metal. The process of Thermionic emission is widely used as a source of electron in
electron tubes, the heat supplies some electrons with at least the minimal energy
required to overcome the attractive force holding them in structure of the metal.
(Encyclopedia Britannica, 2017)
Richardson Dushman s equation relates to the theory of thermionic expulsion, which
determines that thermionic emission, discharge of an electron from heated materials.
This theory is widely used as a source of electrons in conventional electron tubes.
Thermionic emission is a process of emission of charge particles (known as

Abortion Is A Fetus A Living Human
Is a developing fetus a living human? Is a fetus not considered a human until the
second trimester? Does poverty, rape and disability justify an abortion? Is the
abortion dilemma truly black and white? Abortion is one of the most common
medical procedures performed in the United States each year. Nearly one in four of
all pregnancies end in abortionequalling 42% of all yearly deaths around the world.
For pro life supporters, they say that life begins at conception; the instant when a
sperm cell unites with a egg cell. For pro choice supporters, they say at birth, a baby
is a living human. At conception, they know it is something but they don t consider it
a human life. Since 1973, the number of abortions has spiked drastically from over
700,000... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Others will object and say it is just a fetus. Millions of babies each year, die without
even being born because of abortion. How should society respond to the huge
increase in the amount of abortions over the past few years? Society needs to make
a big change and make abortions illegal. People think it is acceptable to kill
someone who doesn t even have a say yet. People think it is acceptable to put their
rights before two other individuals. Why though? Why take what seems like the
easy way out all the time? Society is showing people that it is okay to kill unborn
fetuses. Society certainly needs an effective way of preventing abortions. But in the
end, the fact that abortion has been legalized in America since 1973, shows that right
now our problem is only going to get bigger and we need to do something about it
What Was The Expansion Of The Westward Expansion
The Westward Expansion Transcontinental Railroad
Didn t the traveling time from coast to coast use to take months? Aren t you glad you
don t have to take hazardous and slow wagons currently? During the Industrial
Revolution, many factors contributed to the rapid expansion of the West. Before the
transcontinental railroad was fully completed, the travel time from coast to coast was
costly and took months through very troublesome terrain. Even though there were
several constructive results from inventions, there were also dire consequences. The
improvements made were great but, they came with substantial economic and
political costs. One of these great improvements was the construction of the railroad.
This helped many Americans to travel west in a week instead months. Towns sprung
up all along the railways, increasing the population of the west dramatically.
Why build the transcontinental railroad? Growth of the west coast. The west coast
had an abundance of gold and silver. The trip to the west would become shorter.
Business would rise with the connection of the east and west. The solidification of the
Union would become possible. Last but not least the achievement of the Manifest
Destiny.
The transcontinental railroad is accepted as one of the greatest accomplishments
during the 19th century. In a petition submitted to the U.S. Congress on Jan. 29,
1845, New York merchant Asa Whitney proposed one of the most audacious ventures
in American history: the construction of a railroad from Lake Michigan to the Pacific
Ocean, spanning two thirds of the North American continent. In bold and stirring
words, describing how such a rail network would revolutionize the entire commerce
of the world, Whitney urged the federal government to underwrite the ambitious
project. (Visions of Empire). The Pacific Railroad Act of 1862 was authorized and
passed, the railroad companies began to build a transcontinental railroad. Connecting
over 2,000 miles of land, crossing deserts and mountains. It s an amazing achievement
since it lowered the traveling time to just a few days compared to the months.
After a long six years, the first United States transcontinental railroad was completed.
The ceremony date was on the golden
History Of Campaign Finance Reform
Campaign finance reform is a movement in the United States to help change the
involvement of money in American political campaigns (Boundless, 2015).
Throughout the history of campaign finance reform, three main areas have
consistently been the target of regulation: contributions, expenditures, and
advertising. Over the years Congress has instituted limits on how much individuals or
organizations may contribute to federal campaign committees and political groups,
how much campaign committees may spend during the course of an election, and how
much money might be used for advertising expenses during a campaign (Smith,
2010). To help limit contributions, expenditures, and advertising Congress has passed

Greek Mythology Heroes
In this paper I will analyze two characters in two separate works, one from a
literary text and one from a film. The focus of this paper will be on heroes that have
a relationship to an element of mythology. I will use the character Odysseus from
Homer s epic poem, The Odyssey and the character Wonder Woman from the
American superhero film Wonder Woman . In this essay I will analyze the gender,
appearance, actions, and roles that these heroes have. Throughout this essay, I will
also discuss the negative characteristics that both these heroes have, such as their
violent actions towards others. Heroes possess numerous qualities that make them
great, however, there are certain qualities of a hero that are consistent throughout
Greek mythology; bravery, intelligence, and strength. These qualities are significant
to these two Greek Mythologies because these heroes are known to bravely risk
their lives for others, using their wisdom to guide them, all while fighting strongly
for what they believe in. This paper will serve to prove that regardless of the gender
of each of these personas, the characteristics that define a hero remain consistent.
To begin, I would like to provide the reader with some background information that
pertains to these heroes. Wonder Woman is a superhero who is also known as
Princess Diana, and she grew up on the Amazon Island of Themyseria. Wonder
Woman has been granted superhero powers by Zeus, to fight against Ares if he
Compare And Contrast Christianity And Judaism
Comparing and Contrasting Christianity to Judaism
There is a close relationship between Christianity and Judaism both from a theological
and historical perspective. The similarities between these two religious platforms
emanates from the notion that Christianity arose and protested from Judaism.
However, it is worth noting that Christianity is not a continuation of Judaism as some
people perceive. Both Jesus and most of his disciples, who pioneered the earliest
Christian churches, were Jews. Particularly, Jesus family practiced and followed
Jewish beliefs, and He frequently referenced the Hebrew bible. On the contrary, the
disciples believed that Jesus was the one and only Messiah, which is predicted in the
Jewish Bible. While the creation narrative is still mysterious to many people, most
individuals are still obsessed with the attempt to discover how everything came to
existence. The primary purpose of this paper is to compare and contrast the basic
ideologies of Christianity and Judaism (Neusner, 76).
The primary similarity between Judaism and Christianity is based on the notion
that they regard sin as a rebellion. They affirm that God, through his word, has
made his will well known to all people. Thus, it is a sin to live contrary to this set
will of God and there are consequences. More so, both religions consider God as
being all powerful and supreme and though he allows people to sin, he confines the
freedom. The religions consider that God allows sin as a means of

The concept of InI is that Rastafarian s are walking in step with their creator. Next
on the list and created by the majority is that Rastafari is a cult religion. First of all,
Rastafari is not a cult. According to www.merriam webster.com, a cult is 1.) A

someone were to say that Rastafarianism is a cult based on the first definition, then

Management And The Importance Of Maintenance
Management
Maintenance Management is an orderly and systematic approach to planning,
organizing, monitoring and evaluating maintenance activities and their costs. A good
maintenance management system coupled with knowledgeable and capable
maintenance staff can prevent breakdown problems and environmental damage; yield
longer assetlife with fewer breakdowns; and result in lower operating costs and a
higher quality of instruments. The term maintenancemeans to keep the equipment in
operational condition or repair it to its operational mode. Main objective of the
maintenance is to have increased availability of production systems, with increased
safety and optimized cost. Maintenance management involves managing the
functions of maintenance. Maintaining equipment in the field has been a challenging
task since the beginning of industrial revolution. Since then, a significant of progress
has been made to maintain equipment effectively in the field.

The Hotel de Londres located centrally in the heart of Brig, which takes around 5mins

Distribution channels
OTA(Online Travel Agency) is an important part in the Hotel de Londres s
distribution channels. For example Booking.com and Expedia.cn, the Hotel get most
of the customers from these two website.
And at the same time they have their own hotel homepage which is the most
successful one. The customers could make the reservation in the hotel home page as
well with more choices and better price. The travel agents is another distribution
channel. But 15% was charged as the commission.
Level of customer service
In general the hotel has the expected service according to the comments from
travelers who lived there recently in Booking.com and Tripadvisor.cn. Every
customer was enjoy the perfect location and the beautiful scenery. Most of them like
the relaxed and familiarity atmosphere there and the friendly staffs. But at the same

Frazier Case
FRASIER (A) ANALYSIS
This case outlines the background of the negotiations between NBC (National
Broadcasting Corporation) and Paramount for the extension of renegotiating the
rights to the TV show, Frasier. While NBC wanted to pay under $5 million per
episode in order to make a profit, Paramount seemed to be demanding $8 million
per episode. This was a very big gap considering that there were 24 episodes per
season and that Paramount wanted a three year term on the renegotiated contracted.
The key parties in this case are NBC (represented by Mark Graboff, Scott Sassa and
Jeff Zucker) and Paramount (represented by Kerry McCluggage and Gary Hart).
What is NBC s BATNA?
NBC s BATNA was to either steal a show from another network or begin... Show

Since Paramount could not negotiate for a price lower than $5 million with other
networks, Viacom probably would not agree to a loss making deal unless it felt that
Frasier would have a significant impact on other CBS shows (in other words, be a tent
pole ) as well as on CBS internal power struggle.
What is your best estimate of their respective reservation prices ( walk away price )?
Be sure and explain your answer. Don t just give a number.
The initial offer from Paramount was a 20% increase over what NBC was paying.
This translates to roughly about $6 million per episode. However, NBC s initial
number was 5% less than what they were paying currently. This translates to roughly
about $4.75 million per episode. Later, Paramount came down by $500,000 per
episode ($5.5 million per episode). This still represented a sizable difference.
Based on these facts, I would put Paramount s reservation price being in the range
of $5 $5.25 million per episode. This is because their BATNA is not very strong
and the fact that NBC were the industry leaders in terms of license fees, especially
for prime time shows. Additionally, they called NBC to still work on the deal,
which gives a strong hint that they were still open to negotiation. On the other hand,
NBC s reservation price would be in the range of $5.5 $5.75 million. Though NBC s
BATNA is also not very strong, they have other alternatives. And

Denver Airport Baggage Handling System Case Study
Synopsis
Dysfunctional decision making is the poison that kills technology projects and the
Denver Airport Baggage System project in the 1990 s is a classic example.

the art airport that would cement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Annotated Bibliography On Database Management Systems
The ability to store information has always been important for our survival. In the
beginning, information used to be shared by word of mouth. Then, with the
invention of writing, data slowly started to be stored in books kept in libraries, sorted
in specific order that made them easily accessible. Finally, the invention of the
computers led to the evolution of databases.
Databases are important, because thanks to them humans are able to store and later
on retrieve information. The way in which databases arise is very simple. It all
begins as a list in a word processing system. As the size of the list increases, the data
starts to appear inconsistent. If this occurs, Database Management Systems come to
help, due to the fact they can store a large amount of information in a number of
tables linked to each other. Programs such as Access are able to add new data to a
database or make changes to already existing data from the database; they are even
able to delete information.
These features assist people in analyzing and categorizing information in the
following way:
Tables lie in the core of any given database. Thanks to them, the possibility of
redundancy is greatly reduced. A database can consist of a number of different
tables which enables the researcher to break information down into smaller (and
easier to analyse) pieces. Just like spread sheets, they consist of rows (also called
records) and columns (fields). By using records, researchers are able to combine

  • 5. The Importance Of Computational Thinking Introduction Computational Thinking, first introduced by Jeanette Wing (2006), a computer science researcher at Carnegie Mellon University, as a strategy to solve problems where computing is part of the solution. Computers help make daily discoveries in almost all areas of society expanding our understanding of the world. Problem solving using the power of computers requires teaching students how to confront problems in a way that creates these solutions (Wing, 2006, p. 33). In her article Computational Thinking, Wing proposes that this strategy should be a fundamental skill, just like reading and writing, a foundation for every student (p. 33). Fundamental Skill Computational thinking was not a new idea in 2006. Envisioning the potential of computers in learning, Seymour Papert, a mathematician and learning theorist, in the early 1960s recognized that computers could be used not just to deliver information and instruction, but also to transform learning. He was a pioneer of children using computers as instruments for learning and for enhancing creativity, innovation, and concretizing computational thinking. (Seymour Papert) Papert earned two doctorates in mathematics, but what inspired him was the four years of work under Jean Piaget at the International Centre of Genetic Epistemology, University of Geneva. Piaget s influences are evident in Papert s work on how children create a sense of their world. (Blikstein, 2013,) The constructivist principles found in both

On the Origin of Species In his On the Origin of Species, written in 1859, Charles Darwin clearly explained the gradual progression toward the speciation of organisms with his five main principles: variation, inheritance, competition, selection, and propagation. Darwin hesitated to publish his findings because he understood that his findings were based on the animal kingdom and on an evolutionary process that had to have spanned millennia. He specifically did not think that his discoveries were applicable to the evolutionof human society. Contrary to Darwin s preference, Herbert Spencer did exactly what Darwin hoped to avoid by publishing numerous works supporting his own, new thesis of Social Darwinism, which claimed that Darwin s principles of evolution... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He lived off of his family s wealth and instead of working, he devoted himself wholly to his studies. In 1896, he published his most comprehensive work, The Synthetic Philosophy, a work encompassing many of his theories on society, evolution, morality, and psychology. Spencer died December 8, 1903 while working on his autobiography, which was then published in 1904. Through his anti clerical and rejectionist upbringing, Spencer was raised to attach to a theory like Darwinian evolution. In his first published article on the development of Social Darwinism, entitled The Development Hypothesis, 1852, Spencer established his lack of faith and claimed that creationism was a theory which is supported by no facts at all. He further elaborated on the issue and asserted that there must be another mode by which the world was created. He even went as far as to write that, if he were to interrogate any leading geologist or physiologists they would be forced to confess that the notion was put into his mind in childhood as part of a story which he now thinks is absurd. Spencer believed that creationism was not a viable medium on which to base scientific thought, and as a result, he was forced to find another way to explain the creation of the world. For this reason, he was drawn to evolutionary Darwinism. Spencer however, could not just accept Darwinian evolution as fact. Rather, he expanded the theory of Darwinian evolution to meet his own
  • 7. Macbeth Ambition And Ambition Ambition Aside Humanity Right now I am choosing which universities I will apply to. I know I have put in enough hard work to be near the top of my class, and I will soon be reaping the rewards of my ambition by attending a university that will help pave my way to a good career and a happy life. Some may call me overly ambitious, but I know what I want, and I know what I must do to get there. However, I would like to think that my ambition is a little nobler than what drove Macbeth to his ultimate destruction I d like to think that my goal is moral, and I will not give up my humanity to achieve my goal. In William Shakespeare s play, Macbeth, ambition is the impetus for Macbeth to initially act, and ambition leads to his ruination. While Macbeth appears noble and honest at the beginning of the play, Shakespeare uses asides and soliloquys to communicate that Macbeth first kills for his own ambition but later kills because ambition corrupted his morals, creating his own unraveling, an unraveling that happens regardless of the other, exterior, factors that influenced him. Once one of the Weird Sisters prophecies becomes true, Macbeth thinks about killing King Duncan in order to fulfill his own ambitious goal. Shortly after the Weird Sisters greet Macbeth as Thane of Glamis, Thane of Cawdor, and King, Macbeth gives little credence to their prophecy. But when Ross tells he received the title, Thane of Cawdor, Macbeth immediately yield[s] to the suggestion / Whose horrid image...unfix[es] [his] hair (1.3.147 48). This suggestion he yields to is the murder of King Duncan. No murder led to Macbeth becoming Thane of Cawdor, but he feels immediately compelled to kill King Duncan to become king himself. Shakespeare gives Macbeth an aside to establish that he initially thinks of murdering King Duncan before his wife has any influence over his thoughts. If Macbeth did not think such violent thoughts on his own, he would appear weak and malleable because the action would appear to be planned and encouraged entirely by Lady Macbeth. Instead, Shakespeare uses this aside to reveal that Macbeth is ambitious from the start of the play, and his actions throughout the rest of the play reveal his decaying moral responsibility

Reasearch on the Brain Functions of Autistic Children In the late 1990 s, researchers from the University of California, San Diego wanted to know if there was connection between mirror neurons and autism.1 They hypothesized that since these neurons play a role in a person s ability to feel empathy, they found it sensible to think it might be the cause of autistic symptoms.1 Autismis a disorder found among children where areas of the brainfail to work thus makes it difficult for individuals to communicate.4 A researcher, Giacomo Rizzolatti at the University of Parma Italy, conducted a study in the 1990 s studying Macacas. His group studied the motor command neuron from the premotor cortex. The neuron is part of the frontal lobe that is responsible for voluntary movements. Electrodes were hooked up to the brain and the macacas had to perform goal oriented actions.1 When a macaca reached for a peanut, the same exact neuron from another monkey observing them was fired also. This action surprised Giacomo and his colleagues. They found out the neuron is also found in the same regions as the human cortex1. Further research of the mirror neurons were shown to be located in different parts of the brain such as the insular and cingulate cortices. They found out that the neurons at the anterior cingulate cortex are fired when a person is in pain and the same goes for the person who watches them1. It was concluded that mirror neurons are seen to be performing similar functions that is found in autism meaning that if there was a

The main target of this historical event was to create a commercial freedom in Europe. After this revolution was done, trade relations in Europe went up, and the Bill of Rights was also created in 1689. Today, the Bill of Rights is shown and knowns that it was the first building stone for the British constitution because it limited the monarchic power. During the eighteenth century, the period of the Age of Enlightenmentis considered from 1713 to 1789 because Anthony Pagden states that Europe was like a republic of states, and it was like a union acting together and talking with one voice. The Age of Enlightenment was totally an act of improvement in trade, preventing and thwarting religion related wars, and monarchic rules. E. P. Thompson mentions that the first industrial revolutionoccurred in England, and he mentions that there were not many modern things, but there was only a clock making industry. The discoveries of new places, peoples and things also brought the Agricultural revolution, financial improvement, and the Enlightenment and the Scientific progress, and all of these new findings and innovations triggered to form the Industrial Revolution in England. Hence, the Glorious Revolution, the Age of Enlightenment and the Industrial Revolution should be considered as the first historical roots of the European Unionbecause these

Like the sisterhood of Phoebe, Piper and Prue, if an Avatar dies it affects all of them, and eventually exposes their weaknesses individually and as a group. The magical creatures that exist in Charmed are very different from the Avatars. It is understood whether a magical creature is good or bad in their intentions and in their nature; but this is not the case for the Avatar collective. They are on their own agenda. They never claim to be good or bad. Unlike the sisters, the Avatars are not looking to save innocent lives or fulfill prophecies they actually have no agenda at all. Ultimately, their goal is to rule the world however they want to. To them, the only thing that mattered was attaining a perfect world with no intentions of being good or evil. They linger and they wait patiently. Although they are persistent, they are not intrusive on others, instead they will only appear and act whenever someone is ready for them and a Utopian world order. The dynamics in the series are highly political and they represent real world constructs. They raise a question of immortality and humanity and breaks many moral codes. The series reveals the complications of earthly power to its audience and it resolves these by diminishing the

Prior to the Charter, there was no gurantee in Canadathat rights and freedoms would not be taken away by legislation. The Charter also allows courts to render the constitutional duty so that any decisions made are consistent with those rights and freedoms. The Charter was established firmly in The Constitution Act, 1982 , with the declaration of this act Canada escaped from the severe practice of concept of parliamentary supremacy. The Charter has an enormous effect on court s decision power to award justice to important and debatable issues about policies that affect public. In awarding the verdict courts are not even reluctant to rewrite laws that violate the testament of the Charter. The judges have a duty to regulate the rulings of both provincial and federal governments which, disagree with the root value of Charter. The opponents of the Charter argue that it weakens the essence of a democracy by striking down legislations passed by an assembly with elected members of parliament. Each social issue that a writer writes about is most often one that is impactful on their life. Most often authors who are African American write about racial segregation, or perhaps a religious man writes about the religious persecution he faces. People remember authors, such as Lorraine Hansberry, for writing about both racial segregation and the changing role of women in society. This is evident in A Raisin in the Sun. • 16. The Problem With Government Issued Foreign Aid The Problem with Government Issued Foreign Aid It is widely held that the United States should give money to aid third world countries living in poverty because helping the less fortunate is a strong value in American culture. The U.S. has an interest in helping third world countries escape poverty and elevating them so they may contribute to the growing world state. Therefore, America believes that sending a big fat check to the governments of these impoverished nations is the best way to help. However, all this gifted money does is create increased third world poverty by feeding corrupt governments and diminishing economic growth. This argument has been in the back of a lot of American s mind for a while now, and people normally want one of three things. They want to decrease foreign aid, or they want to keep foreign aid the exact same, or they want to spend the same amount of money but distribute it different ways. The last viewpoint is what I want to focus on. Foreign aid needs to be changed into a more productive way for these developing countries to get out of poverty without corrupting their government or hurting their economic growth. Government issued foreign aid first started after the end of World War II when Secretary of State George Marshall sent money to European countries in order to help them rebuild. This assistance helped to strengthen European economies and also stabilize their countries. Then in 1961, President Kennedy signed the Foreign Assistance

He had numerous discoveries in his lifetime and was fancied by many rulers who sought what he sought. However, he had very high demands on what he would receive if sponsored, so many foreign rulers rejected him and his demands. He was a Catholic and this stood out to Queen Isabella because she wanted to spread Catholicism to non believers. This gave Columbus a better standing with the queen. In Spain, a new federal power was beginning to drive the Moors out of the Iberian Peninsula and this would increase the availability of resources to the monarchs on this land. This involved the king and it pushed him towards sponsoring Columbus because he was so familiar with the land. They soon agreed with all of Columbus claims and sponsored his voyage in search of a water route from Europeto the East Indies. Columbus was foreign to the country of Spain, so this leaves people to wonder why would Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand sponsor a foreign explorer for such an important voyage? Since Columbus was not from Spain he was considered a foreign explorer. A monarchfrom another country would only want a foreign explorer if they had expertise in their field of voyaging. The explorers would most likely be chosen if they shared common interests with the monarch, because they would help benefit the ruler while receiving their own

Organized Crime and Youth Gangs Organized Crime and Youth Gangs The FBI defines organized crime as any group of individuals jointly and systematically engaged in criminal activity for the purpose of making money (FBI, n.d.a). The FBI also provides links to various organized criminal groups on their website, with most being defined by race or ethnicity. The most famous of these groups in the United States is the Italian Mafia or La Cosa Nostra, which is translated as this thing of ours (FBI, n.d.b). The FBI identifies four distinct Italian mafia groups, the La Cosa Nostra (Sicilian Mafia), Camorra (Neapolitan Mafia), Calabrian (Calabria Mafia), and the Sacra Corona Unita (United Sacred Crown based in the Puglia region) (FBI, n.d.b). Of these, the American La Cosa Nostra has been the most successful organized crime group in the U.S. and over the decades has severed controlling ties with Sicily. The American La Cosa Nostra is involved primarily in drug trafficking, money laundering, and various other racketeering crimes, and operates on an international level across North and South America. The Italian Mafia was formed and molded into its current form over the past 3,000 years in response to recurrent invasions by marauding armies (FBI, n.d.b). The formation of these tight knit extended family groups helped ensure their survival and established social rules that endured through the millennia. Today, there are approximately 25,000 members worldwide, with 3,000 living in the U.S. In contrast to the

Example Of Probabilistic Approach Probabilistic Approach In addition to univariate analysis and discriminant analysis, researchers also tried to explore probabilistic prediction of corporate bankruptcy. Zavgren (1985) opined that the models which generate a probability of failure are more useful than those that produce a dichotomous classification as with multiple discriminant analysis. Option to Default Methodology Merton (1974) applied the option pricing method developed by Black and Scholes (1973) to the valuation of a leveraged firm and relates the risk of default to the capital structure of the company. According to this model, The firm s equity can be seen as a European call option on the firm s assets with a strike price equal to the book value of the firm s liabilities. The option like property of the firm s equity follows from the absolute priority rule with respect to which the shareholders can be seen as residual claimants with limited liability. This limited liability gives the shareholders the right but not the obligation to pay off the debt holders and to take over the remaining assets of the firm. Dreams hold a significant meaning in our culture and often given spiritual value. I have experienced the interpretation of dreams to begin as a relational piece on the main subject of a conversation. For instance, at some time during a talk with each other, the topic of the conversation will spontaneously transform into the focus creating irrelevance to the original point of conversation, until the dreamer finishes recounting the dream. Likewise, the dreamer may begin a conversation by making comparisons to details of a casual conversation and speak about a dream he/she had either the night before,... However, while governments are trying to cut down on expenses, they are also trying to increase their revenues through taxes. Barack Obama for instance proposes $989 billion in new taxes over the course of the next 10 years, and most of these taxes are directly related to individuals (Reference 5). When a smaller proportionate heat energy is applied to the metal, the valence electron will gain enough energy and break the bond from the parent atom. Once broken free, the free electrons in the metal may have some kinetic energy. However, there is not enough to escape the metal. How should society respond to the huge increase in the amount of abortions over the past few years? Society needs to make a big change and make abortions illegal. Aren t you glad you don t have to take hazardous and slow wagons currently? During the Industrial Revolution, many factors contributed to the rapid expansion of the West. Before the transcontinental railroad was fully completed, the travel time from coast to coast was costly and took months through very troublesome terrain. Even though there were several constructive results from inventions, there were also dire consequences. The improvements made were great but, they came with substantial economic and political costs. One of these great improvements was the construction of the railroad. This helped many Americans to travel west in a week instead months. Towns sprung up all along the railways, increasing the population of the west dramatically. Why build the transcontinental railroad? Growth of the west coast. The west coast had an abundance of gold and silver. The trip to the west would become shorter. Business would rise with the connection of the east and west. The solidification of the Union would become possible. Last but not least the achievement of the Manifest Destiny. The transcontinental railroad is accepted as one of the greatest accomplishments during the 19th century. In a petition submitted to the U.S. Congress on Jan. 29, 1845, New York merchant Asa Whitney proposed one of the most audacious ventures in American history: the construction of a railroad from Lake Michigan to the Pacific Ocean, spanning two thirds of the North American continent. In bold and stirring words, describing how such a rail network would revolutionize the entire commerce of the world, Whitney urged the federal government to underwrite the ambitious project. (Visions of Empire). The Pacific Railroad Act of 1862 was authorized and passed, the railroad companies began to build a transcontinental railroad. In this essay I will analyze the gender, appearance, actions, and roles that these heroes have. Compare And Contrast Christianity And Judaism Comparing and Contrasting Christianity to Judaism There is a close relationship between Christianity and Judaism both from a theological and historical perspective. The similarities between these two religious platforms emanates from the notion that Christianity arose and protested from Judaism. However, it is worth noting that Christianity is not a continuation of Judaism as some people perceive. Both Jesus and most of his disciples, who pioneered the earliest Christian churches, were Jews. Particularly, Jesus family practiced and followed Jewish beliefs, and He frequently referenced the Hebrew bible. On the contrary, the disciples believed that Jesus was the one and only Messiah, which is predicted in the Jewish Bible. While the creation narrative is still mysterious to many people, most individuals are still obsessed with the attempt to discover how everything came to existence. The primary purpose of this paper is to compare and contrast the basic ideologies of Christianity and Judaism (Neusner, 76). The primary similarity between Judaism and Christianity is based on the notion that they regard sin as a rebellion. They affirm that God, through his word, has made his will well known to all people. Thus, it is a sin to live contrary to this set will of God and there are consequences. More so, both religions consider God as being all powerful and supreme and though he allows people to sin, he confines the freedom. The religions consider that God allows sin as a means of

  • 43. Frazier Case FRASIER (A) ANALYSIS This case outlines the background of the negotiations between NBC (National Broadcasting Corporation) and Paramount for the extension of renegotiating the rights to the TV show, Frasier. While NBC wanted to pay under $5 million per episode in order to make a profit, Paramount seemed to be demanding $8 million per episode. This was a very big gap considering that there were 24 episodes per season and that Paramount wanted a three year term on the renegotiated contracted. The key parties in this case are NBC (represented by Mark Graboff, Scott Sassa and Jeff Zucker) and Paramount (represented by Kerry McCluggage and Gary Hart). What is NBC s BATNA? NBC s BATNA was to either steal a show from another network or begin... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since Paramount could not negotiate for a price lower than $5 million with other networks, Viacom probably would not agree to a loss making deal unless it felt that Frasier would have a significant impact on other CBS shows (in other words, be a tent pole ) as well as on CBS internal power struggle. What is your best estimate of their respective reservation prices ( walk away price )? Be sure and explain your answer. Don t just give a number. The initial offer from Paramount was a 20% increase over what NBC was paying. This translates to roughly about $6 million per episode. However, NBC s initial number was 5% less than what they were paying currently. This translates to roughly about $4.75 million per episode. Later, Paramount came down by $500,000 per episode ($5.5 million per episode). This still represented a sizable difference. Based on these facts, I would put Paramount s reservation price being in the range of $5 $5.25 million per episode. This is because their BATNA is not very strong and the fact that NBC were the industry leaders in terms of license fees, especially for prime time shows. Additionally, they called NBC to still work on the deal, which gives a strong hint that they were still open to negotiation. On the other hand, NBC s reservation price would be in the range of $5.5 $5.75 million. Though NBC s BATNA is also not very strong, they have other alternatives. And

In the beginning, information used to be shared by word of mouth. Then, with the invention of writing, data slowly started to be stored in books kept in libraries, sorted in specific order that made them easily accessible. Finally, the invention of the computers led to the evolution of databases. Databases are important, because thanks to them humans are able to store and later on retrieve information. The way in which databases arise is very simple. It all begins as a list in a word processing system. As the size of the list increases, the data starts to appear inconsistent. If this occurs, Database Management Systems come to help, due to the fact they can store a large amount of information in a number of tables linked to each other. Programs such as Access are able to add new data to a database or make changes to already existing data from the database; they are even able to delete information. These features assist people in analyzing and categorizing information in the following way: Tables lie in the core of any given database. Thanks to them, the possibility of redundancy is greatly reduced. A database can consist of a number of different tables which enables the researcher to break information down into smaller (and easier to analyse) pieces. Just like spread sheets, they consist of rows (also called records) and columns (fields). By using records, researchers are able to combine
