Example Of An Argumentative Essay
Writing an essay on the topic "Example of an Argumentative Essay" can be a challenging task,
as it requires a careful balance between presenting a clear argument and providing relevant
examples to support that argument. The difficulty lies in not only understanding the intricacies of
constructing a persuasive argument but also in selecting appropriate examples that effectively
illustrate and strengthen the points being made.
One of the challenges is to develop a coherent and logical structure for the essay. This involves
organizing ideas in a way that flows naturally, building a solid introduction that sets the tone for
the argument, presenting well-supported points in the body paragraphs, and offering a
compelling conclusion. Ensuring a smooth transition between paragraphs and maintaining a
consistent tone throughout the essay are crucial aspects that contribute to its overall quality.
Moreover, crafting a compelling thesis statement that encapsulates the main argument and guides
the reader through the essay is a crucial step. The thesis should be specific, concise, and
debatable, setting the stage for a robust argument. Developing a nuanced understanding of the
topic and conducting thorough research to find relevant examples and evidence are also time-
consuming tasks that add to the complexity of the writing process.
Selecting and incorporating examples that effectively support the argument is another hurdle. It
requires critical thinking and an ability to evaluate the strength and relevance of each example.
Striking the right balance between providing enough evidence to persuade the reader and
avoiding excessive details is a delicate art that demands careful consideration.
In addition, maintaining an objective and professional tone is essential in argumentative essays.
The writer must avoid emotional language and focus on presenting a well-reasoned and
evidence-based case. This adds an extra layer of complexity, as it demands a high level of
rhetorical skill to convey persuasive arguments without resorting to personal bias.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic "Example of an Argumentative Essay" is a
challenging task that demands a combination of critical thinking, research skills, and effective
communication. Navigating through the complexities of constructing a persuasive argument,
organizing ideas coherently, and selecting relevant examples requires careful consideration and
attention to detail. However, with the right approach and dedication, a well-crafted
argumentative essay can be a powerful tool for conveying and supporting a persuasive point of
view.

The Sermon On The Mount ( And The Plain )
Inherent Value in the Sermon on the Mount (and the Plain) Critical analysis of
Christian doctrine often suggests overlapping principles concerning teachings. That
is, the teachings of one individual, such as a disciple of Christ are re interpreted and
introduced by another, heightening discussion on historical relevance, intent, ethical
implications and methods of delivery. The Sermon on the Mount and the Sermon on
the Plain fall under this category of controversial interpretation. One is recognized as
essentially playing off the other, delivering the same message while delivering a new
level of interpretation. Literary interpretation of the gospel is ever changing due to
the influential nature of the modern environment, where current actions shape the
initiatives of the past. While the common understanding is that these sermons lack
independence as one re introduces the theories taught in the previous sermon, the
theory requires further interpretation before formulating a conclusion on the
independent or collective nature of the sermons. As one examines Christian doctrine,
common ground or interpreting the same message throughout becomes a constant
action. That is, disciples and followers of Christ who spread the word to others are
likely to deliver the same message, as the Word of God acts as the founding origin for
these teachings. Thus, differentiating between multiple doctrines has become a
formality initiated by literary scholars, who aim to establish different
Carbon Monoxide Essay
Imagine a killer perfect enough to travel through the corridors of your home
completely undetectable to the eye of its prey. It can t be heard, can t be smelled,
and before you or anyone in your household realizes that something is wrong, it
could already be too late. Over ten thousand people fall victim to carbon monoxide
poisoning and over one thousand five hundred die per year of this gas so deadly, it is
referred to as the silent killer( What Is Carbon Monoxide? ). Carbon monoxide, or
CO for short, is a flammable, colorless, odorless, tasteless gas that is produced
during incomplete combustion of fuel and it s ability to do harm resides within the
lack of knowledge and understanding of this gas by society. To remain safe from

This lets an adequate amount of CO to build up. Another way would be to burn a
charcoal grill within a well insulated area, again a garage could be used.
The first step in avoiding carbon monoxide poising is being familiar with exactly
where CO can be produced. This includes any place that undergoes combustion.
Around the home carbon monoxide can be produced in fuel fired furnaces, gas
water heaters, fireplaces and woodstoves, gas stoves, gas dryers, charcoal grills,
lawnmowers, cigarettes, and of course automobiles ( Frequently Asked Questions
About Carbon Monoxide Detectors ). Anything that is powered by something
other than electricity is most likely a viable source of CO. Carbon monoxide can
spill from poorly maintained or blocked chimney and flues of the wrong sized
connected to furnaces and water heaters ( What Is Carbon Monoxide? ). Also,
vehicles other than automobiles pose a threat. Boats any kind of recreational
vehicle power by gas engines are likely candidates. General buildings of any kind can
be unsafe as well.
Just like all pollutants, carbon monoxide continuously builds up in the atmosphere
making it harder for all animals to breathe. Highway vehicle exhaust is the top
contributing factor, accounting for about 60 percent on average and up to 90 percent
of all CO emissions nationwide ( Automobiles and Carbon Monoxide ). Other
sources of CO emissions include industrial processes and fuel combustion in sources
such as boilers and
Plato s Simile Of The Cave
Imagine living in a world of false impressions, of course how would know that they
were living in a world of lies. They would probably believe that every action
performed by their senses were true. Plato s Simile of the Cave sheds light on this
this idea which is also adapted by the 1999 movie by Andy Wachowski Lana
Wachowski, The Matrix. Both works have allegorical meanings which explains how
people are trapped by some sort of limitations they have which could also serve as
a deterrent to their further understanding. This movie The Matrix shares a common
philosophical basis with Plato s Simile of the Cave. First, Plato argues that the
mind is susceptible to false ideas because of the limitations of our senses. This is
shown in the conversation between Socrates, a speaker in his allegory, and
Glaucon, the second speaker. Socrates explains to Glaucon that the prisoners in
Plato s metaphorical cave are bound to assume that the shadows thrown on the
wall, by the fire, are real and that the objects held by the passers by, walking along
the road, belong to the shadows. And so in every way they would believe that the
shadows of the objects we mentioned were the whole truth. (Plato, 26). Plato
believes that the world perceived through our senses is not a real world, but a poor
copy of it. This prisoners do not know that they are prisoners, which makes them to
be completely unaware that the reality they know is false. In similar fashion, his
claim shares a common
The Importance Of Life Changing Experiences In My Life
Life altering experiences can occur in the blink of an eye or over a longer time.
The experiences that I went through in 2011 are by far the most interesting in my
life so far. Please join me as I reminisce on times that have past but remain engrained
in my mind. From leaving the comforts of the dreary state of Washington to living
inside stonewallsin a foreign land. I lay in my hollow empty shell of a room as I
look at the clock tick away so loud that I felt it in my hands. I knew all those nights
of staying up late anticipating the day to arrive like a child awaiting to open
Christmas presents had finally come. We stumbled our ways into the bus with two
bags two are names and a metal instrument of defense by our side. Mindless chatter
arose in the bus, I began to stare out the window as I watched sons say goodbye to
their dads, Wives to their husbands, and husbands to their wives. Senseless
communication like one that you would make with a stranger at a coffee shop
waiting to place your over priced coffee order. The wheels began to roll and the
sun began to set. As we pulled up to the tarmac everything fell silent as if someone
had set the world on mute. We ambled our way across the tarmac and all you could
hear is boots rubbing on the cold wet gravel. Ample seating available on flight as
we knew that it was not one for leisure. The wheels came up we zoomed skyward
and a gloomy day turned upside down as we broke through the crowds into a vast
sunny place that seemed to make everything alright in the world for that moment.
The mindset once we arrived to Victory Base Complex in Baghdad had changed
dramatically. Life here was simple and never changing unless we received some
unwanted fire work display by the enemy. Our living quarters where shared very
much like a dog kennel with two dogs trying to coexist. But who are we to complain
those that came before us had it much worst. As you exited the living quarters in
turned into a labyrinth of stone walls and other living units surrounded. The ground
which you use to be mostly sandis now covered with rocks for better traction. In turn
it did not provide better traction it felt more like quick sand. The bathrooms are
shared by approximately five hundred

We re happy the word is getting out about the enterprise zone program. This is a
good company a family operation that started small and grew over the years. We
like to see businesses like this grow in Holmes County, said Leininger, who said
many businesses, like Krestview, are unaware of the program or inquire too late.
Often they re ready and have their contractors lined up. But, the process takes a long
time, and it often comes down to delaying or forging ahead without an enterprise

agreement, Krestview Woodcraft will commit to creating three new full time jobs in
the three years following completion, according to Leininger. Construction is slated
to begin in September and should be completed by May. The additional payroll
represents $140,000 annually. The company currently employs 29 full time
employees, who earn a total annual payroll of about $1.4
Nancy Pickard Research Paper
An amazing life comes with amazing stories, which is exactly what Nancy Pickard
had. Nancy Pickard was born on September 19th, 1945. Her hometown was in
Missouri and Kansas. One thing Nancy loved about writing was the thought of a
small town. Every small town has it universality. Across barriers of language,
culture, and state, all small towns in their essentials, are the same. What helps you
write is whether you came from a small town or you live in it. Nancy Pickard
attended The University of Missouri, majoring in journalism. She earned her
bachelor s degree in journalism in 1967. For most of Nancy s childhood she lived in
a small town. Her elementary school and high schoolwere in a small town. However,
her college was in a city. Nancy

Comparing The Determination Of Molarity Of Naoh By
Titration
In this experiment we will be titrating the titrant sodium hydroxide against the
analyte, which is the substance being analyzed, hydrochloric acid. Titration is the
process of analyzing base and acid added together. The objective is to calculate the
unknown concentration of hydrochloric acid with the standardized solution of solid
sodium hydroxide. The standardized solution is the known concentration but since
sodium hydroxide naturally reacts with air, we must first determine the true
concentration of NaOH by titrating against a weak acid, potassium hydrogen
phthalate (KHP) that is the known concentration. In the first experiment we will need
to find the molarity of NaOH, which is determined by multiplying the moles of KHP
in volumetric
Fashion Counterfeiting
Consumers want quantity over quality. Nowadays, it appears that more and more of
the regular consumers are uninterested in the quality of the product they buy, but
rather how much they will acquire from it. This leads to consumer purchasing
fashion counterfeit products which is becoming a rising issue in the United States
and Europe. Counterfeiting is an illegal act of producing and selling a replica of an
authentic product without the permission of the designer. This market expands from
movies, games, money, even medicine to clothes and accessories. Counterfeiting is a
fast growing industry that is a worldwide problem which consumers play a huge role
in. Aside from harmless pirated movies and the danger of fake pharmaceuticals,
fashion... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, a woman who lives in a small town, who occasionally gets to
encounter high end merchandise would not be interested in the fine stitching of the
handbag, so she will probably buy the knock off version. Two other reasons why
consumers intentionally buy fake goods are for aesthetics desire and because the
luxury brands are way too expensive. This pushes consumers to intentionally achieve
their desired image via the consumption of high fashion counterfeits (Juggessur and
Cohen 384). These are the factors that contribute to luxury fashion counterfeit. For
this research, I interviewed one Apparel Merchandising and Management (AMM)
students and three consumers. The reason I specifically chose an AMM student is
that this issue is regarding their field and future careers. Since consumers play a
factor in this massive industry, I chose three random consumers between the ages of
16 to 35 years old. I asked each person the same five questions regarding counterfeit
and each question are significant to this research. The research questions I asked are:
Do you know what counterfeiting is? What do you think about counterfeit? Have you
intentionally or unintentionally purchase a counterfeit product? Why? Where? Do
you know the effects it takes on? Can you distinguish the difference

Josh just got home from football practice one hot summer evening. His arm hurt
from throwing so many passes that day; being the quarterback of the state bound
team put a lot of pressure on him. More than imaginable. He was stressed even just
thinking about this upcoming weekend. The Johnston City Indians had not went to

had been practicing two a days for a couple weeks now; the Belleville Altolf has an
opposing quarterback who throws for more yards than Josh ever has. No one has
Johnston City picked to win and it has Josh going crazy trying to prove everyone his

follow him. When he gets in there, he finds the guy in there exchanging his chin
strap. Josh is seen by him and all he can say is Good luck, may the best team win.
When he returns to the field, coach immediately asks where he has been. He says
that he was just in the bathroom, not wanting his dad to ask a million questions.
Josh is slowly loosing focus of the game, feeling as if he had butterflies in his
stomach. The game was on, everyone started running, whistles blowing, lights flash
on. It s officially game time. The team was distracted by the game to realize they

both immediately before and after the curse was spoken. My emotional states for
both before and after I cursewill also be included. Equipment utilized during the
observation period included a Memos application on my cell phone, the Sticky

In terms of external influences, it appeared that I cursed a lot when I was around my
friends, such as D, S, and M. Alongside that, I believe that I was receiving
reinforcement for the target behavior when my peers laughed following my
statements.
Treatment Design, Implementation, and Evaluation
The goal of this modification project is to entirely eliminate my use of cursing. A
secondary goal, if the primary one is not met, is to decrease the frequency of
cursing to 1 2 times max. I would be utilizing a positive punishment procedure to
assist in the elimination of the target behavior. Punishment would be in the form of
a rubber band that would be aggressively snapped against my wrist immediately
following the occurrence of the target behavior. I asked my peers and family
members to snap the band every time they hear me curse. Whenever I was alone, I
would be conscientious of my speech, as I was during the baseline observation
period, and administer the punishment myself upon each occurrence. In this
instance, the pain I feel when the rubber band is snapped against my skin is an
unconditioned punisher. Every occurrence of cursing was recorded right away. The
treatment period started on March 27th and ended April 9th, for a total of 14 days
of treatment. Changes in the frequency of cursing occurred slowly for the first few
days. In fact, the amount of cursing had increased to 14 for the first day of treatment.
As can be seen on the graph, the first day had the highest

Sonar is simply making use of an echo. When an animal or machine makes a noise,

ability to hear high frequencies gets worse as we get older.) Speaking more
scientifically, we could say that the sounds we can perceive have a frequency

something vibrates and 1 Hz is equal to one vibration each second. The human voice

Articles Of Confederation Flaws
The Articles of Confederation were a failure due to how weak they were. The
United States had just fought their way out of tyranny, and because of that they
gave all the power to the states, as to ensure no abuses of power, which ultimately
didn t give the government means to rule efficiently. For example, Congress could
not tax, so inflation was caused by their overprinting. There was no national army,
so when tensions arose, congress had to beg for troops, making the U.S. weak and
vulnerable. Also, congress did not have the power to control commerce, so states
made their own monet, which could not be used state to state. Furthermore, there
was no head figure to enforce any of the rules of the Articles, which only hastened
the falling apart of the articles because there was no one person to enforce laws.
Shay s rebellion was the final straw that led to the Constitutional Convention. In the
construction of the constitution they were very careful not to repeat their mistakes.
For example, they gave congress power to tax, draft, control money, as well as the
the other issues where congress lacked necessary power. The... Show more content on

Virginia plan placed a lot of power in the legislative branch, and had a system very
similar to the one we use today. The branch is split up into two houses, the House

Senate would then be chosen by government officials. This was a very scary plan
to the smaller states, who much rather favored the New Jersey plan. This option
outlined a very equal playing field for all states. There is a one house legislature

Mckean Graphic Novels
In this report I shall be discussing the historical context of the development of
graphic novels that changed in the last three decades. The visual language has
shifted art styles and developed different opinions on what are proper storytelling
and a comic. I shall be analysing what is the visual language for graphic novels.
After analysing the visual language I shall be comparing to an illustrator and artist,
Dave McKean. He is a personal interest that has influenced my art style for two
years in generating Gothic, dark toned imagery. McKean has developed a unique
visual language towards comic and graphic novels, questioning if we could further
beyond the usual similarity. What is his point of comics and the visual language?
He provided illustrations for several novels working with different authors, but I ll
be exploring his work with his collaborator Neil Gaiman. This partnership sold many
books due to the visual language representation Dave McKean s illustrations he has

March 2015. The tail end of the skateboard is resting on the concrete while the nose
end of the board is leaning against a pillar. On the bottom side of the board, you can
see the trucks (the white metal on either end) that connect the wheels and allow the
skateboard to move from side to side. The angle of the shot shows three out of the
four wheels (the fourth cannot be seen) that are attached to the axle ends of the
trucks. Inside each wheel is what is known as a barring, that allows the wheel to
spin along the axle and thus allows the board to move. The top part of the board...

Once all four wheels are in contact with the ground, the skater stand on top of the
board with his feet touching the grip tape. There are two different stances a person
can take when riding a skateboard. The nose of the board is the front and will be
thicker and longer than seen in the tail. The tail of the board is considered the back
and is thinner and shorter than the nose. If a skater rides with their right foot
forward (near the nose) this is called a goofie stance, while riding with the left foot
forward is called a regular stance. The normative belief then is for the skater to use
their back foot to accelerate them forwards by pushing of the ground. For the
purpose of this paper, we will imagine a person on top of the board as just described
(in either stance), and disregarding the friction caused by the grip tape.
Newton s first law of motion says that an object in motion or at rest will continue at a
constant velocity (speed or direction) unless acted upon a net external force. A force is
considered a push or a pull acting on an object (given in units of Newtons (N)).
There are two types of forces: a contact force, which two objects are in direct
contact, and field force, which is when two objects exert a push or a pull but are
separated by distance. For this discussion contact forces will be the focus; contact
between the skater and the board and contact with the board and the ground. When a
skater actually initiates the

The Legacy Of The Weimar Republic
Nationalism was an essential and indispensable variable in the ruin of the Weimar
Republic and thusly, the resulting disappointment of vote based system in Germany
in the period 1918 1934. The feeling of dependability and commitment to one s
country, which the German subjects had felt in their aggressive past, was at last
crushed by WWI and its outcomes. In spite of the fact that patriotism was a
noteworthy reason for the disappointment of vote based system in Germany, there
were numerous different components adding to the anxiety upon the nation s
administration right now. This incorporated the Treaty of Versailles
, the Reparations
Bill, the control of the Ruhr and hyperinflation. A few endeavors to introduce
nationalistic convictions back in the legislature happened, the most vital of these
being the Kapp Putsch by the conservative patriots and the Lager Hall Putsch by the
conservative Nazi party. The thwarted expectation felt by the general population and
their need to restore pride in their country impacted numerous elements that prompted
the disappointment of vote based system, and to the ascent of the Nazi political
gathering and its pioneer Adolf Hitler.
By the flare up of WWI in August 1914, Germany was entrenched as a noteworthy
and noticeable force to be reckoned with. Such an accomplishment could be found in
the nation s modern and financial quality, abroad states, broad exchanging hobbies
and its unfathomable armed force. Before the war of 1914, the
Cathedral Raymond Carver Analysis
In Cathedral, Carver s use of visualization and climactic change of character
emphasizes the theme that looking and seeing are two very different things. When
Raymond Carver had his wife s blind friend, Robert, join them for a few days, he
should ve been more understanding and empathetic with Robert s blindnessinstead of
just avoiding it or brushing it off as if it s not there. Carver did very well in
changing his ways and learning to accept and understand Robert. Carver also did a
good job of differentiating the acts of seeing something and really understanding
something or someone. At first, he disliked Robert because he was blind. Carver
even pondered over how Robert could ve loved his late wife if he couldn t see her,

His wife repeatedly shows feelings of disgust and lashes out at Carver when he
expresses this quality, saying things like, Are you crazy? Have you flipped or
something? What s wrong with you? Are you drunk? (1). Even after hearing
Robert s tragic story of how his wife died of cancer and he was left with little to no
money, Carver still refused to understand Robert s predicament and called him
pathetic as well as commenting that he can t imagine how Robert could have loved
Beulah if he never saw her. This point cements Carver s ineptitude of empathy and
understanding throughout the story, as well as perfectly symbolizing how
harmful stubbornness of beliefs and views can be. However, when Robert arrives,
Carver s actions have more serious consequences than he believed at the beginning
of the story, and must change accordingly. Carver and his wife rarely show
affection for each other and it seems that his wife is always irritated with him. She
expresses this while constantly giving angry feedback to the things that Carver
says to Robert. Now, while Carver may not care for his wife s poetry, or even try to
understand how she feels at times, Robert seems to care very deeply about her.
They ve sent audio tapes to each other, back and forth for ten years so that they
could keep in touch and always talk about their lives. It is not surprising that Carver
isn t talked about in much of the tapes since he is rarely there for his wife. Evidence
for this lies in his

Compare And Contrast Karl Shapiro And John Donne
Different attitudes that Karl Shapiro and john Donne and perspective towards death
Introduction
Karl Shapiro and John Donne are poets who view death in a different manner
looking at to the main ideas of their poems Auto wreck and death be not proud. These
two poems share the same theme which is mortality and the main ideas are different
since Donne s poem denies the fact that death has power within people and Shapiro
seems confused by the unpredictableness of death by car accident. In real life we
also have people who view death in a different manner and they are encouraged by
their own beliefs. The Christians believe that they are going to live an eternal life

He perceived death in a Christian manner by revealing the fact that we will all
wake up from the dead to live the eternal life, so death is not frightening because if
it looks like a sleep, then one day we are going to wake up from this sleep and it is a
lowly slave that depends on fate. The poet is very arrogant since he believes that
people cannot be defeated by this death and it cannot kill anyone.
Shapiro thinks that death is frightening and he is asking himself that why do we
have to die in a cruel manner like having an accident while john criticizes death by
saying death is a servant to many horrible masters such as fate and accident and he
is mocking death by saying sleeping pill can make us sleep better that death. The
poet chose to stick to his Christian believe that even if we die now, one day we are
going to wake up from the dead and live eternal live where we are going to live
peacefully without earthly conflicts. To support his point, the quote from the bible
revelation 14:13 then I heard a voice from heaven saying blessed are the dead who
die in the lord from now on, they rest from their labour for their deeds will follow

America In Five Classes Essay
In the United States, people and their families are categorized in a class based on
power, wealth and occupational prestige. There are five categories in the United
States that categorizes our nation s people. The classification of our nation s status
includes the poor, the near poor, the working class, the middle class, and the upper
Class.
The poor is classified when people are living below the poverty line set up by the
U.S. government. The poverty level adjusts for family size, and as of 2009 is
$21,834 for a family of two adults and two children (Brinkerhoff, Ortega, White,

The working class is labeled by blue collar industries. Occupations include truck
driving, factories, loading docks, maid services, and secretaries to name a few.
The working class income rarely increase, have a lower chance of promotion, jobs
are less secure, and not as likely to receive health insurance, benefits and pensions.
Compensation varies in the working class and can range to both the high and low
spectrum of the middle class. Housing for the working class is similar to the same
as the middle class. The education level is most common as high school graduate
with little to none college. Most people in the working class are not as likely to
have benefits, health insurance or receive retirement and pensions. The birth in a
working class depends on if the mother has health insurance. Most likely health
insurance is not provided to the working class and childcare cost can be high. The
care for both the mother and child would be expensive and most working class
people are not as likely to have a savings for added cost.
The middle class ranges from high school diploma to college degrees with lots of
diversity. Jobs have more security, benefits, time off paid, raises and promotions are
more viable. Middle class people are professionals could be salespersons,
administrative assistants, and chefs to name a few. Middle class people work with
their children to teach values, rules, belong
Taking a Closer Look at the Aztec Civilization Essays

The food the Aztecs ate was not very much. They had sweet corn tortillas,
vegetables, occasionally meat, and most of their food was spicy. If you could
afford it, you drank hot chocolate, but most drank water and cactus beer. Cactus
beer was called pulquГ©. Entertainment consisted of many games like our. They
played one game called Tlachtli, like basketball. The object was to hit a rubber ball
through a stone ring, but you could only use your hips, elbows, and knees. Another
game was called Patolli, like backgammon, they used dried beans as dice and colored
stones as counters. Art was themed in the AztecEmpire. Most art depicted insects,
birds, animals, and fish. It was very lifelike and showed age and expression. It was
almost always about death, either reflecting the passion to avoid it or the desire to
conquer it. The Aztecs had many advances in technology, like weaponry, shelter,
structures, and transportation. They had many weapons. One was called the

Amazing Grace Play Analysis
On July 22nd, 2015, I was given the opportunity to witness a remarkable Broadway
Play, called Amazing Grace. I attended this play along with my fellow peers from
the Rutgers College of Nursing EOF program. This was the first time for most of my
peers along with myself to attend a Broadway show. Amazing Grace depicts the issue
of slavery during the 1780s and the early 1800s. The main character John Newton
faced many challenges throughout the playand in the end he overcomes those
hindrances by realizing slavery degraded human beings.
One of the features that made the play exciting was the sound effect. Throughout the
play, there were many sound effects of gunshots, the ocean, and storms. These
sounds captured my attention and made me feel as if I was involved in the show.
Typically, I am a person who gets uninterested easily at things I do not enjoy.... Show

The setting changed very often of the play and every new setting was excellent. It
was amazing how the people from the production of the play were able to master
every setting with such a small environment. There was this one scene toward the
intermission where John Newton was travelling in a ship and there was a storm,
which destroyed the ship, and John Newton was drowning. However, John Newton
s friend, an African American slave, saved him and swam up to the shore. During
this scene there was a screen, which came down in front of the stage, and the effects
made it look similar to a view from under the ocean. Behind the screen one could see
Thomas grabbing onto John Newton and swimming up toward the surface of the
water. This was truly amusing for the reason that it convinced me to think it was
actually water. Thus, the setting played a major role in capturing the attention of the
audience, which made everything look as if it was all happening in the 1780 s to
The Radicalism of the American Revolution
In The Radicalism of the American Revolution Gordon Wood attempts to disprove the
common thought that the American Revolution was simply a war for independence
from a tyrannical mother country. He explains how America formed such a unique
from of government. The form that American government took was a collaboration
of many different forms that emphasized the rights of individuals. Woods finds it
essential to explain colonial life and the factors that dictated people s lives to
understand how radical the revolution was compared to other revolutions. In the 1700
s it was impossible for people to imagine a society operating independently of
government, but through shifts in society and through parallel shifts in government
that is what emerge. Up until the American Revolutionsociety and government were
interwoven. Once Woods explains society and the shifts that were taking place in
society and government, he goes on to explain the nature of republicanism. The
ideals of republicanism took a firm hold in the colonies. He claims that republican
disinterest was essential to the formation of America. This term is oftenly thought of
as public virtue or the willingness to sacrifice private interests for the sake of the
community including serving in office without pecuniary reward . When the nation
formed citizens, particularly the elites, were pushed to overlook private interests and
developed a disinterested state of mind in order to further the state of the republic.
The Skeleton Key Quotes
The Skeleton Key is a movie about the belief in the magic centered practice of
Hoodoo. The movie s protagonist, Caroline, starts out as a non believer of magic.
Caroline views the people and culture of New Orleans through an etic lens. For
example, when Caroline first arrived at the gas station prior to reaching the mansion,
she noticed all of the Hoodoo artifacts and freaked out. She had no idea of what she
walked into and wanted to quickly get away. She makes many ethnocentric
judgements of the people and culture. During the course of the film, Caroline s belief
starts to change as she experiences many things that she cannot explain with her
current belief system. Towards the end of the film she was immersed in the culture of

At the beginning of the movie, Caroline is a disbeliever. On her way to be
interviewed for the role of Ben s carer, she visits a gas station that has brick dust
lining the entrance. While trying to pay for the gas she interrupts a ritual at the
back of the gas station. She also discovers a room in Violet s attic containing
Hoodoo paraphernalia. These events mark Caroline s initiation into the existence
of Hoodoo. The next phase marks her increasing awareness of Hoodoo practices
and its associated beliefs. During this phase, she has a number of conversations
with her former roommate, who explains the differences between Hoodoo and
Voodoo and that Hoodoo cannot harm someone if they do not believe in it. That
is, without belief, Hoodoo loses its potency. Her roommate s aunt owns a Hoodoo
shop, where Caroline later acquires the components for the spell she performs on
Ben and also learns that brick dust is used in Hoodoo magic to provide a protective
barrier to stop someone with ill intent from crossing a threshold. When Caroline s
spell works on Ben, it allows him to ask her for help in leaving and also allows him
to indicate Violet as the person responsible for his condition. Caroline s willingness
to be Ben s advocate and potential savior makes her begin to believe in the power
of Hoodoo, if only on behalf of her patient. To test Violet s intent, Caroline uses
brick dust to line the threshold of her room and engineers a situation where she
invites Violet into her room. Violet s wish to do her harm is confirmed when Violet
is unable to cross the threshold. This also confirms the protective power of the brick
dust and Caroline s growing belief in Hoodoo. Later, when Violet is chasing
Caroline, Caroline uses brick dust along the doorways throughout the house to form a

Parents of only children do not always realize their child needs social education

those of other children, but their ability to cooperate, share, help, and exercise self
control is lacking. Professor Chen is stating only children have a harder time

The Power Of The Magna Carta
The Magna Carta was a document created by the people in England who were
struggling due to all the taxation demanded by the king. The poor, the clergy, and
noble men united and forced King John to sign this constitution which gave the
people certain rights, and privileges, which in turn limited the king s power. This
constitution would later on be considered the base for a new form of governmentin the
new world. The Magna Cartaemphasized a limit on the government s power and
gave the people more liberty and rights. This document prevented the king from
taxing the people as often as he pleased, and required him to get a consent before
doing so. It also made the law applicable to everyone including the king, and took
away the king s power to be the judge on any trials.
From the 13th to early 17th century, the English had established a form of
government that combined the power of the people to that of the monarch.
However, by early 17th century, after the death of queen Elizabeth I, a new scottish
king was appointed to rule over England. King Charles believed in absolutism, and
the Divine Right of Kings, a belief that kings and queens were chosen to rule by
god, and were meant to control the people, and the people were meant to obey and
serve the appointed ruler. By mid 17th century, however, after King charles dismisses
the constitution of the people, decreasing rapidly in popularity, and attempts to force
catholic religion on the English, many people start to flee

Lincoln saw this time as a way to reunite the North and the South. Vice President
Andrew Johnson took the job as President, but he was a very horrible president. By
then, Congress was getting taken over by a group called the Radical Republicans
who they wanted to punish the South for leaving the Union. Congress then passed
a law called the Reconstruction Act and the people took that act very hard. That
was the start of the Klu Klux Klan and they wanted to kill every black man.
Unfortunately they are still around today but not as powerful as back then. Johnson
tried to pass laws, but they were out voted by the Radical Republicans. Then, the
Radical Republicans passed some saying that the people should punish the South
for their actions. Johnson had no power so all those laws went through and he

understanding of single digit number quantities and increasing quantity and with
recognizing number patterns. Her Visual Spatial Processing (VSP) abilities were
within the Mild MR to Borderline range. She had difficulty seeing patterns,
relationships, spatial orientations or the gestalt whole among the diverse pieces of
a visual display. She was able to show understanding of simple positions such as
front and behind . However she had more difficulty with directions and positions in
relation to a reference point. She was able to fit simple geometric shapes into their
correct slot in the form board. She was also able to complete simple patterns by
moving plastic pieces into place; however, she had more difficulty with completing
complex patterns. Her Working Memory (WM) ability was within the Mild to
Moderate MR range. Immediate auditory memory for rote material was below
average and likewise immediate visual memory. She had difficulty storing and
immediate recalling both verbal and non verbal information. In the visual associative
memory test, Jaja performed within below average and she was unable to recognize

How Does Epicurus Live A Good Life
In the book, Greek and Roman Philosophy after Aristotle, a letter from Epicurus to
Menoeceus is shared with us. (Saunders, 1966). Epicurus (341 270 BCE) was a
Greek philosopher and also the father of Epicureanism. His beliefs are centered
around one main theme: Death is nothing to fear because when death is come, we
are not (Saunders, pages 49 and 50). He declares these as absolutes for all people on
earth. It is through this brief exchange, I see that Epicurusis passionate that people
live a good life and they live it to the fullest possible potential, devoid of pain and
fear, while achieving pleasure. While his thoughts on life and, ultimately, death seem
to evolve throughout his letter, we begin to see that they contain some conditions and
exceptions. It is because of these that I do not fully agree with the Epicurean way.
Epicurus states that death is nothing to us. He goes on to say that since death is
the cessation of life and our souls die when our physical body dies, we should not
bother ourselves with thoughts of death. (Saunders, page 50). The action of dying
will never be experienced because all experience ceases upon the very occurrence of
death. We should not cause ourselves anxiety by fearing what we will never take part
in.

He says that our journey through life is but mere chance, and we control that
which is considered destiny. This is where he begins to add rules and conditions.
His statements are contingent upon the overall effect of the experience. We should
pass up experiences that would only give temporary good and tolerate the
discomfort to ensure a larger payoff later. This seems to allow for our free will to
play a part. What do we deem good enough ? What is the good worth to us as
individuals? And do we have the willpower to endure hardships to gain ultimate

one can think of devices that produce distortion as exhibiting a nonlinear
relationship between voltage and current. Such nonlinear relationships can lead to
several forms of distortion as summarized below: * A periodic steady state exists
and the distorted waveform can be expressed as a Fourier series with a
fundamental frequency equal to the power frequency. * A periodic steady state
exists and the distorted waveform can be expressed as a Fourier series with
fundamental frequency that is a sub multiple of power frequency. * The waveform is
aperiodic but perhaps almost periodic. A trigonometric series expansion may still
exist (as an exact representation or as an approximation). The first case is commonly
encountered in harmonic studies. There are several advantages to decomposing

VOT Measurement of ESL Saudi Learners? English Stops /p/ and /b/
1. Background:
A. Introduction: Languages make meaningful words by combining sound segments
depending on rules. Children try to acquire these sounds through listening. By the
time goes on, they have a linguistics competence that helps them produce meaningful
sounds. Students who learn a second language or a foreign language face issues due
to the different phonetic system of their first language and the second language. If
they have a sound in the target language is not exist in their mother tongue, they
produce it like the closest sound they have in their first language (Ahmad 2011). ...

Table 1. The Phonetic Inventory of Saudi Arabic Many research papers have talked
about measuring stop consonants voicing. There are many researchers put their
attention on figuring out the difficulties of pronouncing voicing and voiceless
consonants by L2 learners such as (Binturki, 2008; Flege and Port, 1981; Al Saidat,
2010). The difference between voicing and voiceless consonants is the voicing that
occurs during the stop closure interval. The consonant is voiced when there is
voicing, while if there is no voicing, the consonant is voiceless. However, Lisker
and Abramason (1964) do not see that consonant stops (p, b, t, d, k, g) could be
distinguished depending on a distinction feature like the vocal cords voicing. For that
reason, they proposed a distinction feature between voiced and voiceless consonants
which is Voice Onset Time(VOT). They defined VOT as ?the time interval between
the burst that marks release of the stop closure and the onset of quasi periodicity
that reflects laryngeal vibration? (1964, 422). Since English voiceless bilabial stop

The Importance Of Communication At The End Of Life
By...
The article The importance of communication in sustaining hope at the end of life by
Maureen Hawthorn, breaks down different types of communication skills and tools
health professionals encounter while working in a palliative care environment. These
types of communication skills and tools Hawthorn discusses were therapeutic
communication, holistic person centered care, communication skills, poor
communication, the six step SPIKES protocol, hope and the fostering hope.
Therapeutic communication is the first communication tool Hawthorn discusses.
Hawthorn explains that therapeutic communication allows care providers to get a
better understanding of how patients convey thoughts, emotions, ideas and anxieties.
By doing this provider must be able to as sess a patient s perception, obtain a patient
s invitation, and respond to a patient by expressing empa thy. Hawthorn believes that
this process should be done verbally and non verbally, allowing patients to better
understand themselves and their situation. Therapeutic communication skills for
health pro fessionals are important because it allows patients the opportunities to
communicate openly and al lows them to feel less anxiety and more hopeful during
their time of needs. The next tool Hawthorn discusses is that health care providers
can use, in a palliative care setting, a holistic person centered approach. This means
mot only caring for the physical well being of a patient, but also their psychological,
social, and
The Ideologies Put Forth By Paulo Freire
The ideologies put forth by Paulo Freire including liberation education, pedagogy of
the oppressed, inequality and pedagogy of possibility gives educators hope. These
are the educators who are dedicated to bring about positive change in education and
by extension society. Freire s contribution to educationthrough his research and
theories resonates with Trinbagonian educators as it encompasses issues of slavery,
colonialism, post colonialism social mobility and democracy. Furthermore, Freire s
ontology is grounded in comprehensive philosophical underpinnings including that of
John Dewey and Jean Piaget. Their contributions have shaped education
internationally as well as locally. Thus, the authors critique of Freire s work in an
attempt to restructure his theories is a worthwhile analysis and allows for self
reflection, critical thinking and the assurance of hope, in that, if education does
nothing else, it must inspire hope in reference to the school of pragmatism. Such an
educational philosophy in the words to Giroux (2007), points to a future in which
democratic practices create the conditions for each generation of youth to struggle
anew to sustain the promise of a democracy that has no end point, but that must be
continuously expanded into a world of new possibilities and opportunities for
keeping justice and hope alive. (p.201)

Whether Abortion is Good or Bad for Our Society Essay
Whether Abortion is Good or Bad for Our Society
Abortion. Abortion is when a pregnancy is terminated. This could happen naturally
or on purpose. Natural abortions are caused for a variety of reasons, some in which
the fetus does not develop normally, or if the mother has an injury or disorder that
would prevent the birth of the child. Most people refer to the naturally occurring
abortions as miscarriages. Other abortions are purposely committed to prevent the
birth of a child. These abortions are done because the pregnancy is not wanted, or
the pregnancy will endanger the woman s health. Abortions are now easier, less
dangerous, and simpler than they once were. Abortion is one of the key topics in
United States courtrooms; the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This method is defined as any procedure used to terminate a suspected pregnancy no
later than 14 days after the expected onset of a menstrual period (Costa, 163). Most
physicians say that the Menstrual Extraction is a do it yourself (Costa, 164) technique
. All that is needed to perform this abortion is a flexible cannula and a suction
device (i.e. syringe); there is also no need for dilatation. The Menstrual Extraction is
a very dangerous practice. Women who use this method turn out not to be pregnant.
This is because the uterus was not cleaned out completely. They were facing risks
they did not need to face. There are more dangers and risks if the abortion is not
performed after seven weeks LMP. There are more risks if the abortion is performed
earlier than seven weeks LMP. Clearly, the menstrual extraction is not the best way to
go.
There are several laws and policies regarding abortion. These laws are primarily for
the sake of the country s well being. Several countries offer abortions on demand, and
some countries absolutely prohibit abortions. Most countries agree that a woman has
the right to an abortion if it will endanger her health. Approximately 23 countries
offer abortion on request upon the pregnant women. Fourteen countries allow
abortions for social, and social medical reasons. Forty two countries offer abortions if
it will endanger the women s general health.
The United States has its set of laws
New Orleans Dance Vs Brazilian Dance
Prior to actually taking Brazilian dance class, I just assumed it was another one of
those slow moving ballad dances but for a different culture. This is due to barely
being deduced to how the brazilian culture in like in reality, as the only two types of
dance I was shown were Jazz dance, which I really enjoy, and New Orleans dance,
which I m actually not very fond of (85% percent of it involves bounce, which I am
not a fan of at all). But after a few classes went by, I was proven wrong. Brazilian
dance is very different from both Jazz dance and New Orleans dance. Brazilian
dance is much more complex and structure than how it s thought to be, as it is a
much more rhythmical dance in a more lively patter, where it is used with the
samba step. In addition, all types of Brazilian dances are usually performed as
informal fun after any type of ceremony celebrated in Brazilwith the use of
percussion instruments to help illustrate the celebration mood. They also usually
involve every type of body and foot... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As we new, New Orleans Voodoo was once a dominant force among New Orleans
where the Haitians believed in Voodoo and practiced it as it s own dance religion
(Garvey, Widmer, Chappetta, Chappetta 2013). The twist is while folks who
believed in Voodoo related the term spirit with mythical creatures such as zombies,
the Candomble dance meaning of spirit refers to the spirit within ourselves. In
addition, New Orleans dance usually has no limitations on what to do and allows the
dancers to move however they wish. With Candomble dance (and any Brazilian
dance for that matter) those who are dancing are instructed to move their bodies in a
more organized, professional rate, making the dance as a whole more thematic in a
Nuclear Power Plant Advantages And Disadvantages
Every dollar spent on nuclear is one less dollar spent on clean renewable energy
and one more dollar spent on making the world a comparatively dirtier and a more
dangerous place, because nuclear power and nuclear weapons go hand in hand (Mark
Z. Jacobson).
Nuclear power plants are widely considered to be one of the most effective methods
of producing electricity, however, they come with disastrous potentials. They are
more preferred than the toxic burning of fossil fuel, which produces high amounts of
greenhouse gases (Health Research Funding). However, I believe that the
disadvantages and potential hazards of using nuclear power plants demean the
advantages, and thus they should not be considered as a solution to energy problems.
The disadvantages include the usage of non renewable fuel and the potential of long
lasting destructive effects on the environment and health. Health effects
Accidents
A nuclear power plant acts like a thermal power station in which nuclear reactors act
as the heat source (European Nuclear Society). All typical conventional thermal
power stations work similarly, where heat is used to generate steam which drives a
turbine connected to a generator that produces electricity (European Nuclear Society).
There are four hundred nuclear power plants functioning in the world, with many in
the United States and Japan (Nuclear Energy Institute, World Statistics ). One of the
main drawbacks of using nuclear power plants is

Professional Wrestling History
For Baby Boomers and Generation X wrestling fans that grew up in the southeast, the
three letters, NWA, evoke nostalgic memories of the long past days of the territories
and Kayfabe. Each territory had its own promoter, but was under the banner of the
National Wrestling Alliance, NWA. Back then, Kayfabe was the implicit rule that the
wrestlers always stay in character during the show and in public appearances to
maintain the illusion professional wrestlingwas a real sport and everything that
happened in the ring was real. (E Wrestilg Wikia, n.d.) While today, there is no
pretense, everyone knows that outcomes are scripted, and it is even called Sports

Analysis Of James Baldwin s Blues For Mister Charlie
James Baldwin in his play Blues for Mister Charlie describes the racial hatred
between the white town and the black town. The play concerns with Richard, a
black man who returns to the South with a gun to recover from drug addiction and
start a new life. Richard carries a gun with him as he returns, but he passes the gun
to his father voluntarily. At the end, Richard was killed by a white man named Lyle
for his provocative behavior. Why is Richard carrying a gun and why did he gives it
to Meridian? Richard is afraid of being exposed as weak and vulnerable because it
will compromise his felt sense of masculinity; therefore, he carries a gun to make his
appearance as a strong man who would never bow down to oppression. Richard was

Unfortunately, he continues to experience discrimination which weakened his
masculinity. Self blame and low self esteem caused his drug addiction. He uses
drugs to mask his vulnerability, and he carries a gun to prove his masculinity.
After struggling in the North, Richard moved back to the Southern town of his
birth to recover from the addiction. He was aware of the racial violence caused by
the Jim Crow Laws. Richard was afraid to end up like his mother, so he carried a
gun with him as he goes back to the South for protection. When his grandmother
found out that he has had the gun for a long time, Richard insists in keeping the
gun and he commanded her not to tell his father, Meridian of the gun. However,
after the interactions with Juanita and Lyle, Richard gives the gun to his father
voluntarily. What causes Richard to change his mind and give the gun to his
father? Given Richard s provocative behavior toward Lyle, one might suggests that
Richard pass the gun to Meridian because he wants to be defenseless. He offends
Lyle hoping that he will retaliates and eventually ends his life. But why would he
want to die? Perhaps because he fails to pursue his dream to become a blues singer
in the place where African American can succeed. In addition, his drug addiction had
made his life a mess and Richard choose to be defenseless just to end the suffering of
discrimination. Instead of passing the gun to people

Example Of An Argumentative Essay. 8 Argumentative Essay Examples

  • 1. Example Of An Argumentative Essay Writing an essay on the topic "Example of an Argumentative Essay" can be a challenging task, as it requires a careful balance between presenting a clear argument and providing relevant examples to support that argument. The difficulty lies in not only understanding the intricacies of constructing a persuasive argument but also in selecting appropriate examples that effectively illustrate and strengthen the points being made. One of the challenges is to develop a coherent and logical structure for the essay. This involves organizing ideas in a way that flows naturally, building a solid introduction that sets the tone for the argument, presenting well-supported points in the body paragraphs, and offering a compelling conclusion. Ensuring a smooth transition between paragraphs and maintaining a consistent tone throughout the essay are crucial aspects that contribute to its overall quality. Moreover, crafting a compelling thesis statement that encapsulates the main argument and guides the reader through the essay is a crucial step. The thesis should be specific, concise, and debatable, setting the stage for a robust argument. Developing a nuanced understanding of the topic and conducting thorough research to find relevant examples and evidence are also time- consuming tasks that add to the complexity of the writing process. Selecting and incorporating examples that effectively support the argument is another hurdle. It requires critical thinking and an ability to evaluate the strength and relevance of each example. Striking the right balance between providing enough evidence to persuade the reader and avoiding excessive details is a delicate art that demands careful consideration. In addition, maintaining an objective and professional tone is essential in argumentative essays. The writer must avoid emotional language and focus on presenting a well-reasoned and evidence-based case. This adds an extra layer of complexity, as it demands a high level of rhetorical skill to convey persuasive arguments without resorting to personal bias. In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic "Example of an Argumentative Essay" is a challenging task that demands a combination of critical thinking, research skills, and effective communication. Navigating through the complexities of constructing a persuasive argument, organizing ideas coherently, and selecting relevant examples requires careful consideration and attention to detail. • 2. The Sermon On The Mount ( And The Plain ) Inherent Value in the Sermon on the Mount (and the Plain) Critical analysis of Christian doctrine often suggests overlapping principles concerning teachings. That is, the teachings of one individual, such as a disciple of Christ are re interpreted and introduced by another, heightening discussion on historical relevance, intent, ethical implications and methods of delivery. The Sermon on the Mount and the Sermon on the Plain fall under this category of controversial interpretation. One is recognized as essentially playing off the other, delivering the same message while delivering a new level of interpretation. Literary interpretation of the gospel is ever changing due to the influential nature of the modern environment, where current actions shape the initiatives of the past. While the common understanding is that these sermons lack independence as one re introduces the theories taught in the previous sermon, the theory requires further interpretation before formulating a conclusion on the independent or collective nature of the sermons. As one examines Christian doctrine, common ground or interpreting the same message throughout becomes a constant action. That is, disciples and followers of Christ who spread the word to others are likely to deliver the same message, as the Word of God acts as the founding origin for these teachings. Thus, differentiating between multiple doctrines has become a formality initiated by literary scholars, who aim to establish different
  • 3. Carbon Monoxide Essay Imagine a killer perfect enough to travel through the corridors of your home completely undetectable to the eye of its prey. It can t be heard, can t be smelled, and before you or anyone in your household realizes that something is wrong, it could already be too late. Over ten thousand people fall victim to carbon monoxide poisoning and over one thousand five hundred die per year of this gas so deadly, it is referred to as the silent killer( What Is Carbon Monoxide? ). Carbon monoxide, or CO for short, is a flammable, colorless, odorless, tasteless gas that is produced during incomplete combustion of fuel and it s ability to do harm resides within the lack of knowledge and understanding of this gas by society. To remain safe from carbon... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This lets an adequate amount of CO to build up. Another way would be to burn a charcoal grill within a well insulated area, again a garage could be used. The first step in avoiding carbon monoxide poising is being familiar with exactly where CO can be produced. This includes any place that undergoes combustion. Around the home carbon monoxide can be produced in fuel fired furnaces, gas water heaters, fireplaces and woodstoves, gas stoves, gas dryers, charcoal grills, lawnmowers, cigarettes, and of course automobiles ( Frequently Asked Questions About Carbon Monoxide Detectors ). Anything that is powered by something other than electricity is most likely a viable source of CO. Carbon monoxide can spill from poorly maintained or blocked chimney and flues of the wrong sized connected to furnaces and water heaters ( What Is Carbon Monoxide? ). Also, vehicles other than automobiles pose a threat. Boats any kind of recreational vehicle power by gas engines are likely candidates. General buildings of any kind can be unsafe as well. Just like all pollutants, carbon monoxide continuously builds up in the atmosphere making it harder for all animals to breathe. Highway vehicle exhaust is the top contributing factor, accounting for about 60 percent on average and up to 90 percent of all CO emissions nationwide ( Automobiles and Carbon Monoxide ). Other sources of CO emissions include industrial processes and fuel combustion in sources such as boilers and
  • 4. Plato s Simile Of The Cave Imagine living in a world of false impressions, of course how would know that they were living in a world of lies. They would probably believe that every action performed by their senses were true. Plato s Simile of the Cave sheds light on this this idea which is also adapted by the 1999 movie by Andy Wachowski Lana Wachowski, The Matrix. Both works have allegorical meanings which explains how people are trapped by some sort of limitations they have which could also serve as a deterrent to their further understanding. This movie The Matrix shares a common philosophical basis with Plato s Simile of the Cave. First, Plato argues that the mind is susceptible to false ideas because of the limitations of our senses. This is shown in the conversation between Socrates, a speaker in his allegory, and Glaucon, the second speaker. Socrates explains to Glaucon that the prisoners in Plato s metaphorical cave are bound to assume that the shadows thrown on the wall, by the fire, are real and that the objects held by the passers by, walking along the road, belong to the shadows. And so in every way they would believe that the shadows of the objects we mentioned were the whole truth. (Plato, 26). Plato believes that the world perceived through our senses is not a real world, but a poor copy of it. This prisoners do not know that they are prisoners, which makes them to be completely unaware that the reality they know is false. In similar fashion, his claim shares a common
  • 5. The Importance Of Life Changing Experiences In My Life Life altering experiences can occur in the blink of an eye or over a longer time. The experiences that I went through in 2011 are by far the most interesting in my life so far. Please join me as I reminisce on times that have past but remain engrained in my mind. From leaving the comforts of the dreary state of Washington to living inside stonewallsin a foreign land. I lay in my hollow empty shell of a room as I look at the clock tick away so loud that I felt it in my hands. I knew all those nights of staying up late anticipating the day to arrive like a child awaiting to open Christmas presents had finally come. We stumbled our ways into the bus with two bags two are names and a metal instrument of defense by our side. Mindless chatter arose in the bus, I began to stare out the window as I watched sons say goodbye to their dads, Wives to their husbands, and husbands to their wives. Senseless communication like one that you would make with a stranger at a coffee shop waiting to place your over priced coffee order. The wheels began to roll and the sun began to set. As we pulled up to the tarmac everything fell silent as if someone had set the world on mute. We ambled our way across the tarmac and all you could hear is boots rubbing on the cold wet gravel. Ample seating available on flight as we knew that it was not one for leisure. The wheels came up we zoomed skyward and a gloomy day turned upside down as we broke through the crowds into a vast sunny place that seemed to make everything alright in the world for that moment. The mindset once we arrived to Victory Base Complex in Baghdad had changed dramatically. Life here was simple and never changing unless we received some unwanted fire work display by the enemy. Our living quarters where shared very much like a dog kennel with two dogs trying to coexist. But who are we to complain those that came before us had it much worst. As you exited the living quarters in turned into a labyrinth of stone walls and other living units surrounded. The ground which you use to be mostly sandis now covered with rocks for better traction. In turn it did not provide better traction it felt more like quick sand. The bathrooms are shared by approximately five hundred

Krestview Woodcraft Case Study Recently approved for a 50 percent tax abatement on new construction, Krestview Woodcrafts, which produces the LuxCraft brand of outdoor furniture, is gearing up to add a new 56,000 square foot warehouse to its growing complex along County Road 144. MILLERSBURG Although approved for a partial tax abatement, the expansion of a local business is expected to bring in additional jobs, wages and an estimated $30,000 $40,000 in property taxes over the next 10 years. This is a good company a family operation that started small and grew over the years. We like to see businesses like this grow in Holmes County, said Leininger, who said many businesses, like Krestview, are unaware of the program or inquire too late. Often they re ready and have their contractors lined up. But, the process takes a long time, and it often comes down to delaying or forging ahead without an enterprise zone, said Leininger, glad Mullet contacted him far enough in advance. As part of the agreement, Krestview Woodcraft will commit to creating three new full time jobs in the three years following completion, according to Leininger. Construction is slated to begin in September and should be completed by May. The additional payroll represents $140,000 annually. The company currently employs 29 full time employees, who earn a total annual payroll of about $1.4

  • 9. Comparing The Determination Of Molarity Of Naoh By Titration In this experiment we will be titrating the titrant sodium hydroxide against the analyte, which is the substance being analyzed, hydrochloric acid. Titration is the process of analyzing base and acid added together. The objective is to calculate the unknown concentration of hydrochloric acid with the standardized solution of solid sodium hydroxide. The standardized solution is the known concentration but since sodium hydroxide naturally reacts with air, we must first determine the true concentration of NaOH by titrating against a weak acid, potassium hydrogen phthalate (KHP) that is the known concentration. In the first experiment we will need to find the molarity of NaOH, which is determined by multiplying the moles of KHP in volumetric
  • 10. Fashion Counterfeiting Consumers want quantity over quality. Nowadays, it appears that more and more of the regular consumers are uninterested in the quality of the product they buy, but rather how much they will acquire from it. This leads to consumer purchasing fashion counterfeit products which is becoming a rising issue in the United States and Europe. Counterfeiting is an illegal act of producing and selling a replica of an authentic product without the permission of the designer. This market expands from movies, games, money, even medicine to clothes and accessories. Counterfeiting is a fast growing industry that is a worldwide problem which consumers play a huge role in. Aside from harmless pirated movies and the danger of fake pharmaceuticals, fashion... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand, a woman who lives in a small town, who occasionally gets to encounter high end merchandise would not be interested in the fine stitching of the handbag, so she will probably buy the knock off version. Two other reasons why consumers intentionally buy fake goods are for aesthetics desire and because the luxury brands are way too expensive. This pushes consumers to intentionally achieve their desired image via the consumption of high fashion counterfeits (Juggessur and Cohen 384). These are the factors that contribute to luxury fashion counterfeit. For this research, I interviewed one Apparel Merchandising and Management (AMM) students and three consumers. The reason I specifically chose an AMM student is that this issue is regarding their field and future careers. Since consumers play a factor in this massive industry, I chose three random consumers between the ages of 16 to 35 years old. I asked each person the same five questions regarding counterfeit and each question are significant to this research. The research questions I asked are: Do you know what counterfeiting is? What do you think about counterfeit? Have you intentionally or unintentionally purchase a counterfeit product? Why? Where? Do you know the effects it takes on? Can you distinguish the difference

Treatment Design, Implementation, and Evaluation The goal of this modification project is to entirely eliminate my use of cursing. A secondary goal, if the primary one is not met, is to decrease the frequency of cursing to 1 2 times max. I would be utilizing a positive punishment procedure to assist in the elimination of the target behavior. Punishment would be in the form of a rubber band that would be aggressively snapped against my wrist immediately following the occurrence of the target behavior. I asked my peers and family members to snap the band every time they hear me curse. Whenever I was alone, I would be conscientious of my speech, as I was during the baseline observation period, and administer the punishment myself upon each occurrence. In this instance, the pain I feel when the rubber band is snapped against my skin is an unconditioned punisher. Every occurrence of cursing was recorded right away. The United States had just fought their way out of tyranny, and because of that they gave all the power to the states, as to ensure no abuses of power, which ultimately didn t give the government means to rule efficiently. For example, Congress could not tax, so inflation was caused by their overprinting. There was no national army, so when tensions arose, congress had to beg for troops, making the U.S. weak and vulnerable. Also, congress did not have the power to control commerce, so states made their own monet, which could not be used state to state. Furthermore, there was no head figure to enforce any of the rules of the Articles, which only hastened the falling apart of the articles because there was no one person to enforce laws. There are two different stances a person can take when riding a skateboard. The nose of the board is the front and will be thicker and longer than seen in the tail. The tail of the board is considered the back and is thinner and shorter than the nose. If a skater rides with their right foot forward (near the nose) this is called a goofie stance, while riding with the left foot forward is called a regular stance. The normative belief then is for the skater to use their back foot to accelerate them forwards by pushing of the ground. For the purpose of this paper, we will imagine a person on top of the board as just described (in either stance), and disregarding the friction caused by the grip tape. For example, when Caroline first arrived at the gas station prior to reaching the mansion, she noticed all of the Hoodoo artifacts and freaked out. She had no idea of what she walked into and wanted to quickly get away. She makes many ethnocentric judgements of the people and culture. During the course of the film, Caroline s belief starts to change as she experiences many things that she cannot explain with her current belief system. On her way to be interviewed for the role of Ben s carer, she visits a gas station that has brick dust lining the entrance. While trying to pay for the gas she interrupts a ritual at the back of the gas station. She also discovers a room in Violet s attic containing Hoodoo paraphernalia. These events mark Caroline s initiation into the existence of Hoodoo. The next phase marks her increasing awareness of Hoodoo practices and its associated beliefs. During this phase, she has a number of conversations with her former roommate, who explains the differences between Hoodoo and Voodoo and that Hoodoo cannot harm someone if they do not believe in it. That is, without belief, Hoodoo loses its potency. Her roommate s aunt owns a Hoodoo shop, where Caroline later acquires the components for the spell she performs on Ben and also learns that brick dust is used in Hoodoo magic to provide a protective barrier to stop someone with ill intent from crossing a threshold. When Caroline s spell works on Ben, it allows him to ask her for help in leaving and also allows him to indicate Violet as the person responsible for his condition. Caroline s willingness to be Ben s advocate and potential savior makes her begin to believe in the power of Hoodoo, if only on behalf of her patient. To test Violet s intent, Caroline uses brick dust to line the threshold of her room and engineers a situation where she invites Violet into her room. Violet s wish to do her harm is confirmed when Violet is unable to cross the threshold. This also confirms the protective power of the brick dust and Caroline s growing belief in Hoodoo. Later, when Violet is chasing Caroline, Caroline uses brick dust along the doorways throughout the house to form a

The poor, the clergy, and noble men united and forced King John to sign this constitution which gave the people certain rights, and privileges, which in turn limited the king s power. This constitution would later on be considered the base for a new form of governmentin the new world. The Magna Cartaemphasized a limit on the government s power and gave the people more liberty and rights. This document prevented the king from taxing the people as often as he pleased, and required him to get a consent before doing so. It also made the law applicable to everyone including the king, and took away the king s power to be the judge on any trials. From the 13th to early 17th century, the English had established a form of government that combined the power of the people to that of the monarch. However, by early 17th century, after the death of queen Elizabeth I, a new scottish king was appointed to rule over England. King Charles believed in absolutism, and the Divine Right of Kings, a belief that kings and queens were chosen to rule by god, and were meant to control the people, and the people were meant to obey and serve the appointed ruler. By mid 17th century, however, after King charles dismisses the constitution of the people, decreasing rapidly in popularity, and attempts to force catholic religion on the English, many people start to flee

Epicurus (341 270 BCE) was a Greek philosopher and also the father of Epicureanism. His beliefs are centered around one main theme: Death is nothing to fear because when death is come, we are not (Saunders, pages 49 and 50). He declares these as absolutes for all people on earth. It is through this brief exchange, I see that Epicurusis passionate that people live a good life and they live it to the fullest possible potential, devoid of pain and fear, while achieving pleasure. While his thoughts on life and, ultimately, death seem to evolve throughout his letter, we begin to see that they contain some conditions and exceptions. It is because of these that I do not fully agree with the Epicurean way. Epicurus states that death is nothing to us. He goes on to say that since death is the cessation of life and our souls die when our physical body dies, we should not bother ourselves with thoughts of death. (Saunders, page 50). The action of dying will never be experienced because all experience ceases upon the very occurrence of death. We should not cause ourselves anxiety by fearing what we will never take part in. The consonant is voiced when there is voicing, while if there is no voicing, the consonant is voiceless. The article The importance of communication in sustaining hope at the end of life by Maureen Hawthorn, breaks down different types of communication skills and tools health professionals encounter while working in a palliative care environment. These types of communication skills and tools Hawthorn discusses were therapeutic communication, holistic person centered care, communication skills, poor communication, the six step SPIKES protocol, hope and the fostering hope. Therapeutic communication is the first communication tool Hawthorn discusses. Hawthorn explains that therapeutic communication allows care providers to get a better understanding of how patients convey thoughts, emotions, ideas and anxieties. By doing this provider must be able to as sess a patient s perception, obtain a patient s invitation, and respond to a patient by expressing empa thy. Hawthorn believes that this process should be done verbally and non verbally, allowing patients to better understand themselves and their situation. Therapeutic communication skills for health pro fessionals are important because it allows patients the opportunities to communicate openly and al lows them to feel less anxiety and more hopeful during their time of needs. The next tool Hawthorn discusses is that health care providers can use, in a palliative care setting, a holistic person centered approach. This means mot only caring for the physical well being of a patient, but also their psychological, social, and

These are the educators who are dedicated to bring about positive change in education and by extension society. Freire s contribution to educationthrough his research and theories resonates with Trinbagonian educators as it encompasses issues of slavery, colonialism, post colonialism social mobility and democracy. Furthermore, Freire s ontology is grounded in comprehensive philosophical underpinnings including that of John Dewey and Jean Piaget. Their contributions have shaped education internationally as well as locally. Thus, the authors critique of Freire s work in an attempt to restructure his theories is a worthwhile analysis and allows for self reflection, critical thinking and the assurance of hope, in that, if education does nothing else, it must inspire hope in reference to the school of pragmatism. Such an educational philosophy in the words to Giroux (2007), points to a future in which democratic practices create the conditions for each generation of youth to struggle anew to sustain the promise of a democracy that has no end point, but that must be continuously expanded into a world of new possibilities and opportunities for keeping justice and hope alive.
