1. Experience Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of personal experience can be both rewarding and challenging. On
one hand, drawing from your own life offers a wealth of material to work with, ensuring
authenticity and depth. However, this abundance of personal content can also pose a difficulty,
as it requires introspection and emotional investment to effectively convey the significance of
your experiences.
One of the main challenges lies in striking a balance between narrative and reflection. Merely
recounting events may result in a superficial exploration of your experiences, lacking the depth
needed to engage readers. Conversely, focusing too heavily on introspection may lead to a
disconnected narrative, where the reader struggles to follow the thread of your story.
Additionally, there's the challenge of objectivity versus subjectivity. While the essay is inherently
personal, maintaining objectivity can be crucial, especially when discussing sensitive or
controversial topics. Balancing your subjective experiences with objective analysis and insight
can elevate the essay, offering readers a nuanced perspective while still honoring your personal
journey.
Furthermore, crafting a compelling narrative structure can be daunting. Deciding which
experiences to include, how to sequence them for maximum impact, and weaving them together
seamlessly requires careful planning and organization. Without a coherent structure, the essay
may feel disjointed or meandering, failing to effectively convey the significance of your
experiences.
Finally, there's the emotional aspect of writing about personal experiences. Delving into past
memories, especially those that are painful or emotionally charged, can be emotionally taxing. It
requires vulnerability and courage to confront these experiences openly and honestly on the page.
In conclusion, writing an essay on personal experience is a challenging yet rewarding endeavor.
It demands introspection, emotional investment, objectivity, narrative skill, and courage.
However, with careful consideration and dedication, it is possible to craft a compelling and
impactful narrative that resonates with readers.

2. The Tropical Rainforest Biome In Tropical Rainforests
The tropical rainforest biome is an ecosystem covering around 6% of the Earth s
surface and being a home to over 50% of the plant and animal species. These
environments are hot and humid all year round, with the average amount of rainfall
being 250cm per year. The temperatures in a rain forest minimum tends to be around
20OC with the temperature not rising above 34OC regularly. Tropical rainforests are
found spanning from both sides of the equator between the tropic of Cancer and the
tropic of Capricorn meaning rainforests are in Central and South America, Southeast
Asia, Africa and Australia.
Deforestation has been a major concern in tropical rainforests, this is an act of
destructing a forest for multiple reasons including wood supply, agriculture purposes
or the extraction of minerals and energy. Forest loss till date is 18.03 million acres
per year and it has been estimated that within 100 years all rainforests will be
destroyed.
Palm oil is a vegetable oil high in saturated fats extracted from the palm fruit, the

3. The Life of Franklin D. Roosevelt
A mention of the name, Roosevelt D. Franklin to most Americans, rekindles the
memories of the Second World War, the Manhattan projects and the subsequent
bombing of two Japanese cities. What most of these people fail to understand is that
Roosevelt s presidency was the Second World War. Turth be told, Roosevelt is one
the greatest presidents the United Statesever had based on his personality and the
challenges he faced while in the White House. This paper discusses a number of
aspects about one of the United States celebrated presidents, Foosevelt D. Franklin,
including his life history, challenges he faced, his achievements, as well as, some
unique things about him and his presidency.

Other important legislations enacted by Roosevelt include the Social Security Act,
Tax bill, and the National Labor Act. Most of these legislations were geared towards
regulating how the banking system worked and ensuring trust in the country s
financial system. Others were geared towards giving poor Americans some for of
economic relief during their most challenging times (Gunderson 2010).
The second challenge Roosevelt faced was the Second World War that had
destroyed most of Europe. Roosevelt did everything possible to keep the United
States of America out of this war through provided forms of support to countries
like Britain and France during this war. Nonetheless, when Japanses attacked the
Unites States itself, Roosevelt was forced to send American forces to take part in
the war. The attach on American soldiers and vessels changes Roosevelt s
calculation. The entry of the United States into the Second World War changed the
face of the whole conflict. It was Roosevelt who commissioned and oversaw the
Manhattan Project that led to the construction of the first atomic bomb. The
Manhattan Project is one of the largest projects ever understaken in the history of
the world. Roosevelt wanted the atomic bomb as one of the way of bringing the war
to a quick end, as well as, one way to increase the United Stat s

Ethical Issues in film Erin Brockovich There are many ethical issues in the movie
Erin Brockovich. This movie is about a mother of three who uncovers a water
poisoning case by Pacific Gas Electric Company (PG E) in southern California.
Erin has the responsibility to feed and educate her three children and she has a
general distrust of people. She begins by forcing her lawyer Ed Masry to give her
a secretarial job after he failed to get her a settlement from an auto accident. She

This representative is perceived to be a heartless person who is not taking

business world, being rightfully portrayed in a negative light was when an
assumed employee from PG E actually calls to threaten the safety of Erin and her
children. Erin is threatened by this person because PG E know that she has
valuable information that could prove their fault in the health issues of Hinckley
community members. Clearly, this act portrays the business world in a damaging
way, and I believe we would all hope that our companies would never act in a way
to threaten an innocent mother and her family. PG E did not care for others;
otherwise they would have changed their policies to stop the use of harmful
chemicals. The only employee who I would suggest to be at a higher level on
Kohlberg s scale was a man named Charles Embry who approached Erin toward the
end of her investigation. He was instrumental in this law suit because he had saved
the documents that PG E had requested to destroy because he knew it was unethical
to destroy the evidence of harmful chemicals. He watched his cousin pass away at
only 41 years old, after suffering nose bleeds while cleaning the cooling towers,
having his

1.2 Venture Capital: a light of hope for the SMEs
Venture capital(VC), which is known as the risk investment, shows significant role
in promoting the SMEs in raising finance. VC includes business angel financing,
relationship lending and so on. All of them are good choices for SMEs, specifically
for the small and medium companies which are just starting up.(Dagogo, 2009)
Venture capital is the fuel for high potential growth firms, especially in the United
States. New venture survival is tenuous at best, but those backed by venture
capitalists tend to achieve a higher survival rate than those that are not. said by
Robert(2010), moreover, in his study shows survival for venture capitalists backed
ventures range from around 65 percent to 85 percent of the venture capitalists

without large amount of capital or collaterals.VC might be a better method of
6. The Importance Of Music Education
It is important to understand how music education advocacy was started and how it
has changed over the years. Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, of New York is quoted
saying the following about music education: Knowledge is a form of capital, much of
it formed by government investment in education...Politics has become a process that
deliberately seeks to affect such outcomes as who thinks what, who feels how (Mark).
The significance of Moynihan s statement set the foundation of music education
advocacy in terms of a political standpoint. Mark also hits on the topic that Music
Educationshould have it s own advocate. By, having an individual advocate, they can
better explain the importance of music education to the general public and policy
makers.
To begin, advocacy for music education goes as far back as 1838 with Lowell
Mason. Mason is a significant advocate, he is the one who persuaded the Boston
School Committee to include music as a curricular class. In doing so, with Lowell
Mason as inspiration, across the country more towns, and cities began bringing music
into their curriculum. Although there was advocacy present with the efforts of
Lowell Mason, formal advocacy did not start until 1966. MENC, at the time known as
the Music Educators National Conference, had the upcoming Tanglewood
Symposium, appointed Joan Gaines the director of the newly formed public relations
program.
Additionally, with appointing Joan Gaines as the director of the public relations

7. The Book Of Esther Research Paper
Have you ever heard of being in the right place at the right time? This is Esther s
story. There are only two books of the Bible named for women and because her story
is so significant in the lives of the Jewish people, Esther is one of those books.
Esther is an orphaned, Jewish girl who through circumstances controlled by God
becomes the Queen of Persia and is best known for saving her people. The book of
Esther is a story of how Hadassah, Esther s Jewish name, among other girls were
taken captive by King Xerxes, the King of Persia, for a competition to select a new
queen. Esther was advised by her cousin and guardian, Mordecai, not to reveal
herself as a Jew, therefore her name is changed to Esther.
Esther is so beautiful that everyone she meets likes her, including the King, so she
becomes the new Queen of Persia. One day, after Mordecai has offended the arrogant
Haman, the King s second in command, he overhears Haman s plot to not only kill
Mordecai, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sometimes we feel that we can not go on or we don t have the strength for large
tasks, but, as I ve heard other Christians say, if God calls us to do it, He will get us
through it. Esther also shows us that this world is really not about us. Esther put all
the other Jews lives before her own. This is not a characteristic that shows up in our
culture very often today. As Christians have said, we are to live in this world, but
not to be of this world. We are to follow Jesus and Esther s examples of putting
others needs before our own, including being willing to lay down our lives for
others. Through Esther, God shows us that even under terrible circumstances , we
are still called to have courage, wisdom, and integrity. For such a time as this...
God prepares us for the events that will take place in our lives. He puts us in the
right place at the right time and equips us with what we need, but it is still our

8. U.S. Judicial System Assessment
U.S Judicial System Assessment 1.The constitution determines how the federal
and state courts work(Judicial learning center, 2012). The courts were organized
with the aim of protecting state rights and limiting the power of the federal
government(Judicial learning center, 2012). The jurisdiction of the courts can be
deduced from their names. Federal courts are national in nature while state courts
vary according to each state. State courts have general jurisdiction while federal
courts have a limited jurisdiction (Judicial learning center, 2012). Federal courts
are limited to, handling two types of cases (Judicial learning center, 2012). These
are cases concerned with a federal question and those regarding the diversity of
citizenship (Judicial learning center, 2012). This means that state courts handle
most of the cases in the country. State legislatures make laws which are interpreted
by the state courts (Judicial learning center, 2012). 2.a) Common law relies on
precedents set by other courts (QuickMBA, 2010). In applying this law, judges
refer to the findings and rulings of other courts (QuickMBA, 2010). This law is
mostly used in state courts (QuickMBA, 2012). The origins of this practice can be
traced back to the 13th century, when the royal judges began writing their decisions
and the reasons that informed them (QuickMBA, 2012). The Common law is often
applied in solving cases involving schools. These cases revolve around the freedom
of expression. b)

In this case, the employees compared themselves with a self inside situation, which
is comparing their current situation with it was before. They found their ration

Another problem faced by Cathay is the conflict between its management and
employees. As mentioned above, the ground crews perceived that the company has
negatively affected their concerned working conditions. This conflict may be resulted
from poor communication between both parties, lack of openness of the company,
and failure to respond to employees needs. It is obvious that Cathay failed to respond

The Doctors and Healers that were around during that time were very well educated
and trained but compared to what we know today; they were quite primitive. But in
their day, they were modern. There were two types of healers; they were licensed and
unlicensed. The Licensed healers were:
Physicians These were well trained doctors, they would study the works of Galen and
Hippocrates and train for 15years. They were first class doctors. Many rich and
important people would have their own physicians.
Surgeons These were known as second class doctors, this is because surgery was only
necessary if you needed an amputation. Surgeons trained for years but almost always
by watching their teacher performing the surgery and them taking notes.
Apothecary These were early forms of chemists and sold mixed remedies.
Midwife These were the only women around who were given a small education in

The Matrix vs. Allegory of the Cave The Wachowski Brother s film, The Matrix,
and The Allegory of the Cave from Plato s Republic are both centered on the
concept of how reality is perceived. In both works, there is someone who is trapped
in a false reality but then comes to know true reality. In Neo s case, he was escaping
from a computer generated reality, while in Plato s work, the prisoner was escaping
from inside a cave. Both works share the common theme of the acceptance of actual
reality in order to know truth. In The Matrix, what humans think is reality is actually
just generated by a computer program that projects a reality to the minds humans kept

While in The Matrix, Neo lives in a world that is controlled by machines, the
prisoner in Plato s allegory lives in a cave, controlled by form holders. In the same
way, both Neo and the prisoner manage to escape from the false reality they have
been exposed to and come to know reality for what it truly is. It is revealed to Neo
that the life he knows has been carefully constructed by the agents of The Matrix.
Likewise, Plato s prisoner becomes cognizant of the fact that the shadows
projected on the cave walls are not the truth, they are just shadows cast by the form
holders. He sees the fire and as he makes his way outside the cave to his freedom,
he sees the sun and becomes enlightened, both literally and figuratively. In both
stories, the protagonists share a paralleled experience in that they are prisoners and
are completely oblivious to the fact that the reality they think they know is false.
Both stories also share the protagonists gaining wisdom as a result of coming to
terms with reality, which is also called self actualization. In The Matrix, once Neo
understands his new reality, he is able to manipulate the matrix and use it to his
advantage. In the Allegory of the Cave , the prisoner learns infinite wisdom once he
leaves the grips of the false reality of the

15. Lord Of The Flies Allegory Analysis
To subliminally teach readers a lesson, authors sometimes make their story an
allegory. This means that their characters and events represent more than what they
seem. A good example of an allegory is Lord of the Flies by William Golding. On the
surface, the story is just some children doing their best to survive in harsh conditions
and eventually getting rescued. Deep down, it has much more meaning than that.
There are many interpretations of what those meanings are, but when reading the
book, most readers can see that a common underlying theme is present. Whether it be
the boys themselves, their tools used for survival, or their own imaginations, it is
clear that the problem of evilis in the majority of symbolism in the story. One of the
first symbols in Lord of the Flies is the conch. Ralph and Piggy, find said conch and
use its sound to gather the rest of the boys on the island (Golding 17 20). This turns
the conch into a symbolof assembly, order, and civilization. Once all the boys are
gathered, they establish some rules for any further meetings (21), one rule being
that whoever holds the conch may speak while the others must listen. The conch
then represents power to whoever holds it. At the end of the story when the conch
is destroyed (181), the ideas of civilization and power on the island are also
destroyed with it. This makes more room for evil to dwell. Another symbol of order
in the book is Ralph himself. All the other boys elect him as their
16. Slave Narratives as a Literary Genre
Slave Narratives as a Literary Genre: Frederick Douglass Literature is an important
part of life for many people, and slave narratives are an important part of literature.
They have much to offer when it comes to what they can provide to others and what
they can teach them about an experience that is completely foreign to many people.
Finding sources on slave narratives is, fortunately, not that complex, because there
have been many written and they have stayed popular because they speak to people
in a way that fictionalized accounts of slaverydo not. If I were going to create a full
research paper on the general topic of Frederick Douglass and slave narratives as a
literary genre, seeking answers to an open, objective question such as how slave
narratives (and, specifically, Frederick Douglass) are used and understood in the
context of modern day relationships between whites and blacks, then the best serious
and authoritative sources I have been able to find to support such a hypothetical
research paper using the academic resources available to me as a college student
would be the following:
Asim, Jabari. (2003). African American literature in the black. 1 June 1997. The
Washington Post. Newspaper accounts such as this one show that black literature is
becoming more relevant to people today, and that it is being purchased at a strong
enough rate to create an income for the authors and the publishers. This is a
significant jump from where black literature was at the
17. Essay On How To Choose The Right Dog Breed
Seven Easy Ways to Choose the Right Dog Breed for You
There is little profit to be made in making things more complicated for yourself.
With that in mind, we ve come up with seven easy ways to manage how to choose
the right dog breed for you.
First of all, you will want to consider the expenses of dog ownership. Whether you
are adopting or purchasing one from a store or breeder, you will not only incur
initial charges, but also health and welfare cost for the life of the newest member of
your family. Vaccines are a vital element in a dog s wellbeing and in most states
rabies shots are required. Nutrition, toys, and training will no doubt add to the cost of
pet ownership.
Second, you may want to question the purpose of owning a dog. Are you ... Show

On the other hand, small breeds like the Chihuahua are comfortable in small
apartments. Furthermore, how much space you have outside matters, too. Some
breeds, like the Greyhound or Whippet, need space to run. Small yards will not be
sufficient for these breeds. Other breeds like the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
would be content with a small yard. Visiting a dog park may eliminate the problem,
but you would have to consider how much time it would take to go there and if your
community even has one.
Sixth, for some families, it is critical to bear in mind all allergy issues before you
make a final purchase. Asthma patients may suffer more with one breed than
another. For instance, the Siberian Husky sheds frequently while the Chinese
Crested Dog is hairless. Additionally, some breeds fur, such as the Puli and the
Poodle, are hard to maintain. Luckily, you don t necessarily have to groom your
own pet. There are a variety of businesses that cater to the individual needs of dogs.
Unfortunately, this can be quite pricy. It is also important to keep in mind, though
rare, pets can sometimes have allergies, too. You will want to consider the
adjustments you may have to make to accommodate their needs as well.
Finally, weighing the potential medical needs, issues, and life expectancy are just as
important as everything else. Pugs and Shih Tzu s tend to have difficulty breathing
and Newfoundland s are prone to hip dysplasia. Though cancer is

Pat and Tiffany are flawed in ways that are more common in human nature than we
discuss, or would like to believe, and offer more depth to the audience than the overly
stereotyped flaws of commitment phobia and unnecessary expression of feelings.
Silver Linings Playbook is shot through Pat s perspective in the present as he
navigates his life after he is released from a psychiatric rehab facility. Russell is
able to tell the story of how Pat arrived at the point he is at through flashbacks
triggered by his wedding song and through visits with his court appointed
psychiatrist. The storyline bounces around from different aspects of Pat s life;
problems at home with his parents, his running back to Nikki and away from his
new life, and dancing with Tiffany. The audience is whirled around following it all,
as if they too are a part of the obsessive craziness that is overwhelming and raw in
some moments and relaxed and comical in others. In these ways, the mental illness
aspect of the film that has completely shaken up Pat s life, is woven through for the
audience to understand, but is still not a glaring idea that is hard for people to grasp
or relate to.
Though the film itself strays from a typical romantic comedy, the structure of Silver
Linings Playbook does not. Romantic comedies usually center on a single person s
development through the assistance of their soon to be partner. The theme is stated
within the first ten minutes; in this case, it

million square kilometers (Paranyushkin). Geographically, Russia is astounding in it
s vast, treeless plains that span for hundreds of miles known as the Steppes (). The
region of Siberia, which supports one of the harshest climates in the world, dominates
most of Northern Asia and extends the country s borders further past Europe. This
marks it as an influential actor in the international community. Currently, Russias
president is Vladimir Putin, who was in power from 2000 to 2008 and then
reelected in 2012 (). However, the country s government has not always been in the
hands of a federal semi presidential republic. Previously, Russia was ruled in form of

Inevitably, diminishing oil prices weaken Russia s GDP and will continue to pull
its economy in a downward direction following each drop in price. Moreover, the
value of Russia s ruble has experienced a decrease in value since the fall of 2014
weakening exchange rates (). As of today, one Russian ruble is only worth 0.017
USD. Along with the country s weak economic growth, Russia s annexation of
Crimea and the outbreak of war in Ukraine have contributed to the devaluation of
Russian currency ().
Noticeably, Russia s economic struggles have affected its people, especially those
who live in poverty. Today, roughly 13.4% of Russia s people live in poverty (). For
this reason, Russia s economic inequality continues to be one of its biggest issues.
According to the investment bank Credit Suisse, Russia has the highest rate of
inequality in the world with 35% of the household income belonging to an elite few
(). However, when exchange rates are taken into account, the average wealth of
Russia has decreased overall. The Credit Suisse s reports continues to source the issue
by stating, At the time of transition there were hopes that Russia would convert to a
high skilled, high income economy with strong social protection programs inherited
from Soviet Union days (). Undeniably, the transition did not go as smoothly as
many hoped it would. The oligarchs that sprouted after the fall of the Soviet Union
may be only part of the issue. For

The geography of Texas is hugely varied, from beaches to mountains. You can break
Texas down into four main regions, divided by rivers, escarpments and other natural
features. Texas has all the locations you might need: forests, cliffs, mountainous
desert that could pass for Mars, NASA s Johnson Space Center and even a coastline.
The Lone Star state is often divided into four regions: the Gulf Coastal Plains, the
Interior Lowlands, also called the North Central Plains, the Great Plainsand the Basin
and Range or Mountains and Basins region. Each region has unique landforms and
natural features. The first region of Texasis the Gulf Coastal Plains. The Gulf Coast
stretches along the Gulf of Mexico for hundreds of miles. Cities such as Corpus
Christi, Galveston, and Houston are in the Gulf Coast region. Near the gulf waters
you can see marshes, barrier islands, estuaries, where salty sea water and fresh river
water meet, and bays. As you travel west, you can see prairies and grasslands. The

soil. So there are many kinds of crops grown in this region. There also commonly
short prairie grass. Climate in the region/area can be extreme. In the winters its
cold, but in the summer it can be the hottest area in Texas. The average rainfall is

23. Imprecatory Psalm 35 Essay
Throughout the Book of Psalms there are almost one hundred verses with
imprecations; however, Psalms 35, 55, 59, 69, 79, 109, and 137 are commonly
known as the Imprecatory Psalms. Imprecation means the invocation of judgment,
calamity, or curse uttered against one s enemies, or the enemies of God. Imprecatory
Psalmscontain words that appear at face‐value to curseenemies, which become
problematic with Christians who strive to love rather than curse their enemies as
taught by the Lord Jesus Christ that is recorded in Matthew 5:39, 44; Luke 23:24;
Romans 12:13; 1 Corinthians 4:12; 1 Thessalonians 5:15. This paper intends to
examine specific Imprecatory Psalms and the teachings of Christ concerning His
follower s response toward their enemies to determine whether Christians should
pray the Imprecatory Psalms. Psalm 35 was written by David with intense emotion
and urgency. While the problem that provokes such a prayer is not fully identified,
there is sufficient ambiguity to classify it as an individual lament. Since the piety of
David is notable, and his nature is given to upholding the things of God, we must
start our analysis of imprecatory Psalms with the understanding that his emotional
prayers calling for the vengeance of God should not be classified as sinful,
especially since they come only after his enemies repeated attacks. Thus, it is
imperative that we examine the particulars of each imprecatory Psalm to gain a full
understanding of each circumstance and
24. An Hour Tone
The short story The Story of an Hour is written by Kate Chopin. This story is about a
married woman named, Louise Mallard, who learns about her husband s death, and
through the poem she discovers the positives of this incident. She gradually learns the
restrictions that have been lifted and the new opportunities that arise due to her
husband s death, however, the story ends by her getting a heart attack when she sees
her husband still alive, the story throughout is written in third person point of view.
Furthermore, Chopin believes that marriagecan be very restrictive on woman because
of the dominant role the male plays in the relationship and this is shown through the
tone and literary features of the poem.
First, the tone of the poem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The metaphor in the quote storm of grief , presents a sorrowful tone because it
displays the tragedy and misery she experiences due to her husbands passing,
however this tone lasts only for a small part in the beginning in the story and soon
changes into a tone of elation. Furthermore, the symbolism in the line blue sky
showing here and there through the clouds [...] shows the hopeful tone as it
conveys how the blue sky begins to emerge from the darkness of the clouds. The
clouds are used to symbolise the husband s death and how the grieve she
experiences due to this incident begins to vanish as the sky clears up. This
symbolises the hope that Mallard begins to attain, and this device is used to hint at
the increased opportunities and benefits she will gain by being alone and gaining
independence. Moreover, the realistic tone is later presented at the end of the story.
The dramatic irony in the line of the joy that kills is a powerful indicator that shows
restrictions that are placed on woman. This line is ironic because the readers know
that she did not die because of the joy when she saw her husband but in fact the shock
and disappointment

The Interview
Introduction
Collecting subjective data is an integral part of nursing health assessment. Obtaining a
valid nursing health history requires professional, interpersonal, and interviewing
skills. The nursing interview is a communication process that has two focuses:
establishing rapport and a trusting relationship with the client to elicit accurate and
meaningful information and gathering information on the client s developmental,
psychological, physiologic, sociocultural, and spiritual statuses to identify deviations
that can be treated with nursing and collaborative interventions or strengths that can
be enhanced through nurse client collaboration. After introducing himself to the
client, the nurse explains the purpose of the interview, discusses the types of
questions that will be asked, explains the reason for taking notes, and assures the
client that confidential information will remain confidential. The nurse also makes
sure that the client is comfortable (physically and emotionally) and has privacy. It is
also essential for the nurse to develop trust and rapport at this point in the interview.
This can begin by conveying a sense of priority and interest in the client. Developing
rapport depends heavily on verbal and nonverbal communication on the part of the
nurse.

Metapath Software: September 1997
On September 29th, 1997, John Hansen called together his board to debate an
interesting choice that his company had to make. Hansen the CEO of Metapath
Software Corp., a Seattle based provider of software and services to wireless carriers
had two offers to describe to his board.
The first was an offer to be acquired by CellTech Communications, a wireless
products company who had only recently gone public. Under the terms of the deal,
Metapath s shareholders would at closing receive common stock in CellTech valued at
$115 million. CellTech at that time had a market capitalization of approximately $260

In his discussions with analysts at major investment banks that underwrite technology
IPOs,
Hansen had come away with two requirements for Metapath to be saleable as a
public company.
One was that Metapath needed to attract more customers. As it stood, their revenue
was all concentrated in four accounts, and the analysts feared the their dependence on
these few key customer relationships would make them seem too risky an investment.
The other requirement was that Metapath smooth out their quarter to quarter
revenues, which had been choppy. Hansen s plan assumed that both of these
problems would be worked out in a year.
With that in mind Hansen and his board embarked on raising enough money to see
them through to cash break even and, ultimately, an initial public offering.
RSC s Offer
Hansen and his CFO, Paul Bialek, contacted several late stage and mezzanine funds to
solicit their interest in a Metapath financing. Over time, two funds emerged as
candidates to lead the round
Robertson Stephens Omega Fund (RSC) and Technology Crossover Ventures (TCV).
In the subsequent discussions, RSC emerged as being quicker to provide specific
term sheets and so most of the negotiations took place with the partners at RSC.
Subsequent to a term sheet being settled the company invited TCV to join with RSC
and the existing insiders to form a $11.75 million round.
27. Carole Pateman Democratizing Citizenship Summary
Carole Pateman s work on Democratizing Citizenship: Some Advantages of a Basic
Income argues for a universal basic income (UBI) to all citizens. Pateman argues
why it would help with democratization in regards to the institutions of marriage,
employment, and citizenship, and why people should support it. Although
Pateman does provide clear reasons as to why a UBI would help benefit our
society, she does not acknowledge how it would happen and does little to address
the feasibility of such a large societal and systemic overhaul. Pateman fails to focus
on the key aspects of a UBI such as payment, economic repercussions and women s
rights. Pateman argues that a UBI is preferable to stakeholding as it gives people the
right to individual freedom... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She claims to advocate women s rights throughout areas of her writing but then
makes claims that women can choose to stay at home if they have a UBI. This
statement is incredibly contradictory to the idea of women s rights as a woman can
also choose to work if she desires, which is something Pateman does not address. As
discussed above, if a UBI were to be put in place, there are a number of people who
would choose not to work, or to work less in favour of pursuing more scholarly or
creative outlets, but those numbers of people staying home seem like they would
be higher for women. Studies have shown that the reduction in hours worked is
very small for men, but larger for women (Hum/Simpson S280). This notion could
be attributed to the idea of stigmatization against women; the idea that women are
supposed to stay home and take care of the house and the children. This notion
could come back into play if the wife is now earning a UBI and is therefore
presented with the option of taking care of the house without having to work a day
job. This is one large argument where Pateman falls short. While she acknowledges
that many feminists today fear that this idea could very well become a reality, she
does little to actually address the matter and instead says that women can do caring
work instead. This notion heavily suggests sexist undertones as she dismisses the fear
that
28. Benefits Of Genetically Modified Crops
The topic of GM crops is perhaps one of the most exiting and continually growing
aspects of genetic science. It has an interesting history, many and varied applications,
well researched techniques and its own set of issues ripe for debate; this essay will
discuss these aspects.
Genetically modified crops have been a large part of the agricultural landscape for
thousands of years. Ever since wild crops were domesticated by the first farmers
domesticated wild varieties of grains and tubers. Simply by selecting the most hardy
and highest yielding wild strains early farmers began genetic modification. These
plants were then selectively bred for thousands of years so as to further increase their
yields and tolerance to damage. In more recent history efforts to modify the genes of
plants using methods other than selective breeding were attempted.
Hermann Muller, in 1926, discovered that dosing organisms with X rays caused
lethal genetic mutations. This technology was proposed to modify organisms in non
lethal ways using varying doses of x rays (Carlson, 1983).
But the biggest and most progressing genetic technology was the invention of
recombinant DNA splicing in the late 1970 s. This technology revolutionised the way
in which genetic modification was thought about, it provided an effective method
genetic manipulation and opened the door for many future advances in genetic
science. This advance in technology allowed for the 1987 creation of the first GM
crop, a tobacco crop
29. The Theme Of Characterism In The Bet By Anton Chekhov
The old banker was walking up and down his study and remembering how, fifteen
years before, he had given a party one autumn evening (Chekhov 210) is the opening
for the short story, The Bet by Anton Chekhov. This short story is a suspenseful
writing about a banker and a lawyer, who makes a bet with each other. The lawyer
bets the banker that he can stay in confinement for fifteen years for two million
dollars. At the end of the short story, irony comes into play when the lawyer decides
to leave confinement five minutes before his time is up and the banker wins the bet.
One theme that is carried out through the story is that if you stay in prison for a
lifelong sentence, it will kill you slowly.
One strategy used by Chekhov to illustrate the theme is the use of a protagonist and
antagonist. The protagonist in this short story is the banker. A protagonist is a
character who initiates the events in the story and the banker is the character that
proposes the bet with the lawyer. The antagonist can also be the banker. The banker
can also be considered the antagonist because he is the character who is willing to
kill a person. In the short story the banker gives readers evidence that he is going to
murder the lawyer when he says, I have only to take this half dead man, throw him on
the bed, stifle him a little with the pillow, and the most conscientious expert would
find no sign of a violent death (Chekhov 215). The fact that Chekhov uses this
strategy allows the story to be suspenseful and more interesting. The story becomes
more interesting and suspenseful because there is a battle against the protagonist and
the antagonist.
Another strategy used in this short story to employ the theme is the point of view.
Point of view allows the readers to analyze what perspective the story is being told
from. In the short story, The Bet the point of view is third person limited. The third
person limited point of view only allows the reader to know the thoughts and feelings
of one character throughout the story. In the short story, Chekhov has the author
declare, Then he remembered what followed that evening (Chekhov 212). By having
the author declare this it allows readers to know what the banker was thinking

34. Similarities Between Sparta And Athens
Abstract:
Ancient Greece was made up of a number of sovereign city states, each one
responsible for governing itself and establishing its own form of government. The two
most renowned of these were Sparta and Athens Sparta for its military prowess and its
campaign to usurp other smaller city states, and Athens, renowned for its cultural
influence on the world at large, from architecture and philosophy to art and language.
This paper looks at the different systems of government in the city states and how
each one influenced the status of the state.
Keywords: Monarchy, Aristocracy, Tyranny, Oligarchy, and Democracy
Introduction:
There four main forms of government that existed in Ancient Greece were monarchy
(rule of one), oligarchy (rule of a few), tyranny (rule by force) and democracy (rule
by many). Aristocracy in the context of this paper, was not so much a system of
government but more of a hierarchy which allowed a citizen to rule. It was rare to
find a commoner rising through the ranks to become a leader leaders were more
often than not picked from the aristocratic class, those who by birth or social
standing, became the elite of society.
Monarchy:
Monarchy is typically defined as rule by one person, often through birth right, who
rules until death (in extreme cases a monarch can be deposed), wherein the first born
son takes over the monarchy. The monarch a king or a queen in Ancient Greece,
would have been an absolute ruler, meaning that their rule was law

The problem arises when religion becomes a tool of money making and dupery in

in the 1600 s; While Thomas Aquinas s wrote his five proofs of God in 1270 that
specifies God s existencein each proof; the one that gives the best argument is the
existence of God in his III proof. While both philosophers provide great information
about their reason about God, Thomas Aquinas s and Rene Descartes both attempt to
prove the existence of God, but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Than there has to be something that already existed to make everything exist and
for that to happen that had to be someone, so that is God. Aquinas also pointed one
in one of his earlier proofs of the First Mover. Aquinas says that anything moved is
moved by another, so there must be a first mover (a mover that is not itself moved
by another) and that first mover is God. Both of the philosophers used great
methods to come to their conclusion about how god came into existence. They both
used different thinking methods to get to their well respected arguments but did
come to the conclusion that God does exist . I believe the key difference about the
two philosophers was the time difference between the philosophers, Thomas
Aquinas wrote his proofs in the medieval ages around the 1200 s while ( with no
disrespect) Rene Descartes wrote his meditation in the 1600 s. There is a big 400
year gap between ideas are compared but that came down to the same conclusion So
in the end, Thomas Aquinas and Rene Descartes both attempted to prove the
existence of God, but they differ in respect to the different thought processes to obtain
the existence of God. An still to this day both Philosophers are regarded as key
factor in the world of philosophy and their arguments were so influential that they
were able to land a spot in our textbook THE GREAT CONVERSATION . But thanks
to these gentlemen and their contributions to their works were able
39. China s View of Foreigners
China Coursework What Is Chinas
View of Foreigners
In the 1900 s Chinas view of foreigners was very clear, they didn t like them. China
hated foreigners because of many things, evidence of these can be shown by things
that had taken place at the time and cartoon drawings that had been drawn at the time
also. Evidence of cartoon s that showed that China didn t like foreigners can be found
in the modern world China textbook ; China s view of foreigners was that they
were uncivilized and savage barbarians. They thought that foreigners were cheap,
weak and people looking for trouble wherever they could. Evidence of this can be
shown by this cartoon which was drawn at the time by China China s Fifteenth

U.S.A started to open the link between China and the U.S.A by sending in a U.S
table tennis team in 1971/1972, which can be proved by the BBC Cold War
Programme. President Nixon then went to visit China in 1972 which was one of
the key turning points in China s relationship with the west. A quote from Nixon
we can not be cut off from a quarter of the worlds population proves that Nixon and
the U.S.A had realised how big China was, and wanted to ally. Another quote from
the Modern World China Textbook from President Nixon The U.S and China have
no fudamental interests that need to collide. Proves that the most powerful men in
the world were recognising China as an important nation a major power with the
world influence!. This was unlike the situation in 1960 when China was open to be
exploited by the west. Since the Nixon visit other western leaders that have made
frequent visits to China. Trade has developed and tourism is well established.
Approximately 120,000 Chinese students studied in the U.S.A since 1978. But this
does not mean that friendship has been reached when the Chinese government
massacred some of their own students in Tiananmen Square (around 2000 people) in
1989 the rest of the world protested at the brutality. But, unlike the past, China was
too powerful to fight or attack in any other way. The past still causes problems
mainly over Taiwan. In a speech from the Chinese ambassador in 2001 he stated To

40. Kudler Fine Foods and Wine
Abstract This paper focuses on the various ways which Kudler Fine Foods and
Wine can do in case of a critical event to avoid negative publicity by the media. It
highlights different steps that can be employed by any organization to ensure that
its image as well as interests is safeguarded. In addition, this paper focuses on the
role of public relation and public affairs in critical incidences. The organizational
truth and public communication are also discussed in this paper. Lastly right to
know versus personal privacy is also put into consideration in the critical
incidences. Introduction Kudler Fine Foods and Wine is a food shop which was
started in 1998 by Kathy Kudler, the owner. Currently, the owner has expanded his
business to three different locations. The business provides quality and various
varieties of food and wines. It is evident that the company has experienced a
notable growth, and it is expected to develop even more in the near future. Similar
to other organizations, Kudler Fine Foods and Wines can have critical events,
which can jeopardize the reputation of a company on the face of the media. How the
Organization can overcome its Critical Event in the Face of the Media Research
indicates that many organizations all over the world will be confronted because of
critical events, which are likely to compromise the reputation of the organization
(Nudell Antokol, 2001). Due to this fact, planning on how to overcome its critical
event in the face of
41. Blanche Dubois Madness
Imprisonment is the state of being captive and it can be categorised into physical
and mental confinement. Tennessee Williams A Streetcar Named Desire, which was
published in 1947, during post World War Two. During this time the issue of mental
health was finally becoming acknowledged by the public and more people were
being sent to institutions which knew how to deal with these issues. The play s
protagonist Blanche experiences this period as she was sent to a mental institution at
the end of the play due to her tendencies of living a life of delusion to escape her
disappointing reality. In 1946 President Truman signed the National Mental Health
Act which, for the first time in the history of the United States, generated a large

This mental illness has led to her living in a self imposed state of denial and
deception; this is evident when she states that I don t want realism instead I want
magic , suggesting that the reality of her life hasn t been good for her, the loss of
Belle Reve and her husband are the reason why she desires to construct a world of
her own where she can t lose anything. The fact that she wants a life of magic
confirms that she is an escapist who hopes in something more gratifying than reality.
This is because she is in denial about her past and lack of permanent relationships in
the Old South. Her escapist characteristic is evident through the version of her life
which she tells people; Blanche Dubois is a Don Quixote and desires to keep on
living in an illusionistic realm so that she won t face reality. Dubois is mentally
imprisoned because she begins to believe her own lies. This can be seen through
the character of Shep Huntleigh who was first introduced to the audience as an
idea of Blanche s imagination in order to rescue her and her sister from a desperate
situation , whilst she is being taken away to a mental health institution; she asks
whether if Shep is coming take her away on holiday. The fact that she thought it
was strange that he hadn t arrived yet although he was a made up lie is a revelation
that she is mentally imprisoned in her delusions. The notion of mental
imprisonment is mirrored in Lady Lazarus by Sylvia Plath through some intense
imagery such as a mangled and burned body. She talks about attempting suicide one
year in every ten indicating that she knows how many times she has made an
attempt her, and she disturbs the readers using a cat as a simile for having nine
times to die . This creates a dark image, because unlike a cat that gets nine lives to
live she
42. The Political And Economic Structure Of ISIS
What is ISIS? Some people dislike the current world order, some people are doing
something about it, and some will kill mercilessly to create a rupture in it these
people are ISIS. ISIS is a growing threat originating in the middle east that has killed
tens of thousands of civilians in just the past couple years in an attempt to install
their ideology worldwide. ISIS influence is currently global, and they are still
growing. Fitting the profile of terrorism, ISIS has their own political and economic
structures. They also follow some Islamic teachings, while having the attention of the
world s largest governments. ISIS structure is strange. Many world leaders don t
recognize ISIS as a country despite it having many provinces, an army, and... Show

Wood describes that the idea of being part of something bigger than the mundane
life of the everyday working class is the main factor as to why people join ISIS
(2015). To further back up Wood s idea, a NBER study (by economists Efraim
Benmelech and Esteban Klor) proved that for every ten percent increase in GDP
per capita there is also a 1.5 percent increase in the likelihood of the country s
citizens to join ISIS. This study goes on to say that it is not the politically oppressed
either there is no strong correlation with the freedom of speech and recruitment to
join ISIS ( Where Are ISIS s Foreign Fighters Coming From?, 2016). In Why So
Many Foreign Fighters Flock to ISIS, Florida discovers that the two main factors that
decide what countries tend to have citizens that join ISIS are: one: the amount of
Muslims in the country, and two: those where the religious and ethnic minorities feel
that their host countries do not accept them (2016). ISIS exploits this to their
advantage and uses many techniques to recruit
43. The Life of the Famous English Painter, Sir John Everett...
Sir John Everett Millais was born on June 8, 1829 in Southampton, England to
John William Millais and Emily Marie Millais. Their family had a French
background and were wealthy people in the middle class, partly due to the fact
that the mother s family were very successful saddlers, which are people who were
skilled at making saddles (Artmagick 1, Tate 1). When Millais was little he was
considered a child prodigy when it came to painting and his family moved to
London in 1838 to improve contacts with the Royal Academy (Tate 1). At the age
of nine Millais was sent to Sass s Art School, where he was awarded a silver medal
at the Society of Arts. In 1840, Millais attended the Royal Academy as their
youngest student ever. At the Royal Academy, Millais would go on to receive
several medals for various paintings and drawings. He won a silver medal in 1843
for drawing of an antique and a gold medal in 1847 for a painting he named The
Tribe of Benjamin Seizing the Daughter of Shiloh. His first exhibited work at the
Royal Academy was Pizarro Seizing the Inca of Peru in 1846, and it is now held at
the Victoria and Albert Museum in London (Tate 1). At the Royal Academy, Millais
befriended William Holman Huntand Dante Gabriel. These three artists contributed to
the Cyclographic Society and later, in 1848, founded the Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood,
which welcomed all forms of arts and literature (Tate 1). The forming of the Pre
Raphaelite Brotherhood was a reaction to what the three
44. Why Is Music So Important
Why Is It So Important?
For a little while now I have been asking myself this question: why is this music so
important to us? It seems to be a complicated question to answer, but maybe it s not
quite as difficult as I thought.
The other night I was in my room, listening to various playlists after a particularly
rough day, when I heard the opening chords of Sugar start strumming in my ears,
and I realized something. I realized that those chords felt more like home to me than
the room I d grown up in and the bed in which I d slept for 18 years. And I think that
s why this music means so much to us. It never fails to make us feel. Make us feel
hopeful or safe, make us feel angry or motivated, make us feel better. I can put the

I didn t cut my teeth on Nirvana or Bad Religion. I hadn t even listened to a Black
Flag song until last week. But I grew up during an interesting time for pop music.
When I was 9 years old, about the time that I really started paying attention to pop
culture or anything even remotely music related, it was 2006. An era that I ve
heard jokingly dubbed the Emo Renaissance. It was a time when you could hear
Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance, Blink and Jimmy Eat World, at every turn
on the radio. I remember that the first song I ever illegally downloaded onto my
Walkman was 20 dollar nosebleed, off of Fall Out Boy s Folie ГЃ Deux in 2007. But
pretty soon, pop culture and pop music moved on, and I moved on with it. I all but
forgot about Fall Out Boy and Green Day and the like until many years later. When
I began high school, I somehow rediscovered Fall Out Boy by recommendation
from someone I followed on social media, who really could never shut up about
them. I gave them another listen, this time checking out Take This To Your Grave,
which I had previously never even heard of. I don t even think I really liked that
album at first listen (which is funny because it even says in one song, the songs you
grow to like never stick at first ) but that experience opened the floodgates for the
music that I would soon devote all of my listening
45. The Bluest Eyes By Toni Morrison
Society s perception of women is based on certain characteristics; Toni Morrison
demonstrates this through her characters. Claudia, the youngest character, represents
innocence that is conflicted between her own sensible judgment and what is
expected of her. Pauline internalizes expectations, and lives accordingly, but lacks
self identity. Having no sense of self she finds herself seeking validation from those
who should not affect her. The Bluest Eyes by Toni Morrisonfocuses on the hardships
that women of color face when seeking acceptance from society. She depicts how
detrimental it is to believe that a womans self worth is determined by society s
unrealistic standards of beauty and femininity. It is said that beauty is in the eyes
of the beholder, but in reality there seems to be only one standard to beauty.
Although it was never stated in the novel that light skin was the epitome of beauty,
it was very much imposed upon the female characters. When Claudia receives a
fair skinned doll she is perplexed by how the women around her respond to it. The
loving gift was always a blue eyes baby doll. I knew that the doll represented what
they thought was my fondest wish they force the doll upon her, and in a larger sense
it represents the passing of the torch. Claudia doesn t understand the women s
fascination with the doll, and feels inferior to it because she knows no one has ever
stared at her in that manner. Her confusion turns into rage as she tears apart the doll
46. Morgan Spurlock s Arguments In Super Size Me
1. What is the filmmaker s main argument?
Morgan Spurlock s argument in Super Size Me is that eating McDonald s
everyday is bad and hazardous for people and their health. However, even though
Spurlock specifically focuses on McDonald s because he is eating his daily meals
from there, he points out not just that fast food chain, but other fast food chains and
even the meals served in school cafeterias. A more broad thesis that is not entirely
stated outward in the film would be that eating a lot of food that is unhealthy for
people everyday contributes to obesity, but specifically, Spurlock is focusing on the
fast food chains.
2. Are there any minor arguments?
Although not stated outward until the very end of the documentary, a minor
argument concerns whether or not the fast food companies and chains should be
responsible for the obesity it causes for its clientele. As informed to the audience,
there have been multiple cases filed by numerous different people, suing these
chains, a specific example being the ever popular McDonald s, for their weight gain
and health issues.
3. How does he support his argument? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Easily the most obvious way is that Spurlock uses himself as the tester and has his
progress documented on camera through all 30 days. He even goes to doctors,
where even his appointments and weigh ins are captured on film, and informs
them of his plans, where they agree to go along and check up on his progress.
Morgan Spurlock doesn t just use his own work either; he does research on other
cases, research and statistics, or facts concerning the dangers of constantly eating fast
food. Both people who have experience either obesity, medical concerns concerning
obesity, or who devote a good percentage of their work and research for their places
such as the government appear within the documentary to help back him
47. The Second Battle Of Fallujah
The Second Battle of Fallujah was fought during November and December of
2004. The U.S. Marine Corps against insurgents that had taken over the city of
Fallujah led the battle. The Second Battle of Fallujah was a joint offensive operation
that included the American, British, and Iraqi forces. The Second Battle of Fallujah
was also known as Operation Phantom Fury and code named Operation Al Fajr,
which is Arabic for the dawn . Operation Phantom Fury was the second major
operation in the city of Fallujah, following the First Battle of Fallujah, which took
place in April of 2004. During the first battle, the coalition forces fought into the city
and the Iraqi government requested that the control of the city be transferred to an
Iraqi local security force. Operation Phantom Fury was the deadliest battle of the
Iraq War, and was fought mainly against insurgents. Both battles in Fallujah forced
the military as a whole to improve on its military operations on urbanized terrain
(MOUT).
The Second Battle of Fallujah was fought during OIF 2 (Operation Iraqi Freedom).
Operation Iraqi Freedom 2 began at about March April 2004 and lasted until
February March 2005. The Second Battle of Fallujah began 7 November 2004 and
ended 23 December 2004. The objective of the operation was to capture or kill those
responsible for murders and, corrupt activities, and end the rise of the insurgency in
the city. The intent of the operation was to restore control of
48. Is American History Our Hope For The Future
Why is American history our hope for the future? American history is one of, if not,
the most important lesson we will ever learn as we have fought with mistakes and
success in our lives and stories. Each new generation has a longer story or history as
each new human adopts their ancestors stories as their introduction to their story.
Today I wanted to write this speech on part of my introduction, my mom s
introduction, but a chapter of my grandfather s story, the Vietnam War. Now in order
to properly understand why American historyis our hope for the future, I need to
briefly explain what history means to me, what Vietnam means to my story and then
How this speech answers Why American history is our hope for the future.
History is our story.
