Environmental Problem Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of environmental problems is no small feat. The sheer breadth and
complexity of the subject make it a challenging endeavor that demands meticulous research,
thoughtful analysis, and effective communication skills.
First and foremost, one must delve into the vast realm of environmental issues, ranging from
climate change and deforestation to pollution and loss of biodiversity. Each of these subtopics
requires in-depth exploration, with the need to comprehend scientific data, understand policy
implications, and grasp the socio-economic factors at play.
The process involves sifting through an overwhelming amount of information, distinguishing
reliable sources from misinformation, and synthesizing a coherent narrative that reflects a
nuanced understanding of the problems at hand. Additionally, addressing the interconnectivity of
these issues and their global implications adds another layer of complexity to the essay.
Crafting a compelling thesis statement and organizing the essay's structure becomes crucial, as
the essay must present a clear argument and provide evidence to support it. The challenge lies in
striking a balance between presenting alarming facts and maintaining a hopeful tone that
encourages readers to take action.
Moreover, conveying the urgency of environmental problems without succumbing to alarmism is
a delicate task. The essay must strike a chord with readers, fostering a sense of responsibility and
motivating them to engage with the issues rather than overwhelming them into inaction.
Finally, the writing process involves honing language skills to articulate complex ideas in a way
that is accessible to a broad audience. Achieving clarity and precision while avoiding jargon is
essential for effectively communicating the gravity of the environmental challenges we face.
In conclusion, tackling an essay on environmental problems demands a combination of research
prowess, critical thinking skills, and effective communication. It is a task that requires dedication,
time, and a genuine passion for the subject matter. For those seeking assistance, various resources
are available, and similar essays, along with a myriad of topics, can be explored through

Bomb ( Fallout ) Shelters
Bomb(Fallout) Shelters In the 1950 s during Dwight D. Eisenhower s presidency
which was also the peak of the Cold War, The Soviet Union s development and
testing of WMD s (Atomic, Nuclear and H Bomb) raised fears of war around the
world. The Soviet Union started to expand their idea of communism to democratic
nations in Europe, this raised tensions with the U.S. which heighten fear and anxiety
of the American public of an imminent nuclear/Atom/H Bomb war between the super
powers. The Federal Civil DefenseAdministration created by President Harry
Truman launched an aggressive campaign educating the American public
especially those in the suburbs on how to survive, the government believed that
cities would be the primary targets and people leaving near needed to know how to
survive. According to an article titled U.S. H Bomb Test Put Lethal Zone at 7,000
Sq Miles by William M. Blair published in the New York Times on February 16th
1955, the chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission Lewis L. Strauss said Since
nuclear weapons are in possession of the U.S.S.R. the commission believes that the
American people wish to be informed regarding the dangers of nuclear explosions
and the measures which individuals can take to protect themselves if an atomic attack
should occur***. .
After 48 nuclear atom and H Bomb tests in the Pacific by the U.S., scientists were
able to study the effects of the aftermath in the immediate and surrounding areas of

The And Borrowing Of Georges Bizet s Carmen
EXOTICISM AND BORROWING IN GEORGES BIZET S CARMEN
On March 3rd of 1875, Bizet s opГ©ra comique, Carmen, debuted in Paris and was
received poorly by its mostly bourgeois audience. While today Carmen is esteemed
as one of Bizet s masterpieces, it was not initially thought as such. In his book, D.C.
Parker addresses the fact that opera goers at the time were content with watching
Italian operas that displayed plots of scandal among the upper class, but were
shocked by the idea of Carmen a character content with her promiscuous, bohemian
life and with no pretense of being a member of the upper class. Carmen has been
described by Cooper as, a most sophisticated and advanced entertainment to which not
all men would take their wives and no man would take his daughters . Throughout
Georges Bizet s opera Carmen, he employs exoticism in various manners to
captivate his audience with a Spanish and gypsy like atmosphere. Carmen proves to
be a sublime example of exoticism in opera of the Romantic period through the
combination of stimulating foreign and re interpreted chords, established motives,
the concept of musical language, and dramatic conflict both in and regarding the
opera. Bizet revolutionized the use of large scale exoticism and consequently
changed the norm of the OpГ©ra Comique stage. The opera tells the tragic story of
Carmen, a young gypsy girl, and Don JosГ©, a soldier who is enchanted and
manipulated by her. For Carmen, men are tools for her personal agenda she uses

The Return Of Depression Economics
2008 Economics Noble Prize winner and Princeton University professor, Paul
Krugman, translates the roots of modern and prior financial crisis economics. In his
book, The Return of Depression Economics and The Crisis of 2008, Krugman first
educates the reader of historical and foreign financial crises which allows for a
deeper understanding of the modern financial system. The context provided from the
historical analysis proves to be a crucial prospective in such a way that the rest of
Krugman s narrative about modern finance continually relates back to the historical
analysis. From there, Krugman analyzes and updates his prior studies done on the
Asian financial crisis. He then applies his knowledge from historical events to the
modern day financial struggles and argues his opinion about how and why our
financial world operates the way it does. Krugman explains his perspective that the
world believed that depression economicswas no longer a problem, however the
Asian crisis, Japan s liquidity trap and the Latin American crisis having acted as
warning signals to modern market struggles. Thus he says that this subject needs
further examination and more resources should be poured into it. For Krugman,
Depression Economics is still a relevant problem and should be further studied.
On top of simply translating past and present financial systems, Krugman dissects the
interconnection between economics and politics. Starting with the rise of socialism,
many governments took on
Jessie Pope s Attitude toward War in the Poem Who s For...
Jessie Pope was a journalist who wrote recruitment poems for the Daily Mail
during the First World War. The poems she did write were positive propaganda
poems for the war; her objective was to stimulate patriotism in the readers so that
the men would join the forces. Pope wrote a persuasive poem where she compared
war to a game. This is illustrated in the title Who s for the game? It shows that her
attitude toward war was that it was a great big event that everyone should take part
in one way or another. The title is a short and punchy question inviting anyone to
answer. This gives the wrong impression of the war, it is misleading. Pope was
ridiculed for doing this, but if she did write the... Show more content on

This is compared to a game like rugby, which was a popular sport amongst men at
this time, whilst meaning who will rise to this duty with no fear, again appealing to
masculine instinct and encouraging men to recruit. The final line: And who thinks
he d rather sit tight? In other words she is asking who would rather be a coward and
not do anything the purpose of this line is to evoke quilt within the men so when it
comes to making the decision the questions will linger in their minds. The quilt trip
was not uncommon at this time and was a useful strategy of putting them in awkward
positions felling embarrassed if they do choose not to fight but stay at home taking
the easy route. This corresponds with poetry such as For the Fallen by Laurence
Binyon.
The second verse talks of patriotism, who ll give his country a hand in fighting
against the enemy. This was known as xenophobic or jingoistic poetry a very
popular form of poetry at the time as posters such as the Kitchener appeal and other
poets were alongside this. This is again is in reference to the cowardice of those
who do not join in comparison with those willing to give their lives to their country.
The cowards are the man with a seat in the stand that are compared with the men who
want a turn to himself in the show . The reference to war
Acute Asthma
According to Valkonen et al. (2015), there is a co existing relationship between
asthma and bacterial infection. Antibiotics are a group of drugs that focus on a
various range of infections entailing fungal, viral, bacterial and even protozoan
infections. More so, the use of antibiotics drugs in the management of asthmais still
disputed. Most physicians have found there selves use antibiotics in the management
of asthma in the pediatric population as viral upper respiratory tract infections are
closely associated with asthma exacerbations in children (Kloepfer et al., 2014).
National and international guidelines of practice suggest that antibiotics should not
be used in the treatment of chronic asthma or acute asthma exacerbations, but can...

Organization often looks the other way when making a decision regarding the
process of their product.
A lot of money would be used for solving the social problems. Most of the time,
there is limited money for that. Technical also been used to solving problems. So, in
order to avoid the limited of resources, most of the organizations will possess the
resources (such as money and expertise) needed to tackle social problems.
Analysis:
My analysis is that is in order to solve these social problems, the environment will
need to be cleaner. Our organization would benefit by contributing to assist in
correcting these issues. The company can use ethical decision making to secure the
organization environmental responsibility. Decisions that would allow for
government agencies to get involved with the organization. For instance if a company
is proactive and follows the United States Environmental Protection Agency‎
guidelines for emissions on dangerous pollutants and even goes an extra step to get
involved in the community and address those concerns that the public might have;
they would be less likely to have the EPA investigate them for environmental
concerns.(Corporate social responsibility, 2009).
This would produce a good image of the company to their stakeholders or other
companies, the confidence of consumer s increases, and favor to buy the goods from
the company. The profit of the company will increase eventually. Therefore, acts of

African American And Other Ethnic Groups Incarcerated...
Introduction
When we hear the words justice system we should be thinking about fairness, justice,
honesty, righteousness. However, contrary to what comes to mind in reality the
justice system is rife with inequality, injustice, corruption and dishonestly. The
definition for institutional inequality is the existence of unequal opportunities and
rewards for different social positions or statuses within a group of society
(about.com) and this is what people of color are facing on a daily basis. On this
paper examined the research about the ratio of African American and other ethnic
groups incarcerated versus whites, also how this affects the community, why such a
high percentage of African Americans ages 25 29 are incarcerated and the racial
disparities that exist in the justice system. Historically African Americans have been
discriminated against in the United States and a system of race based hierarchy still
exists. The lower class includes the Blacks and Hispanic population and other so
called minorities. The upper class includes the white population also called majority,
the higher social position of white the population allows for a greater advantage when
it comes to the writing and application of laws that will apply to the majority and
minority population.
II. What is Racial Disparity?
Racial disparity in the criminal justice system exists when the proportion of a racial
or ethnic group within the control of the system is greater than the proportion of such

the assessment procedure and the equipment necessary to carry out a measuring

Free Range Parenting Is Too Dangerous For Children

One afternoon last december, in Washington, DC, police was alerted by a person
to pick up a brother and sister, who were walking a mile heading home, and take
them to their parents. After the police took the kids home, he warned the kids father
of potential dangers that his kids could have faced while walking unsupervised.
(Griffin) These days, there are many other cases similar to this where kids walking
home unsupervised are reported to authority and taken into supervision with their
parents being warned in some ways as a consequence. So what makes kids walking
home unsupervised such a nation wide controversy? Free range parenting. Nowadays,
free range parenting is quite a big issue as the world is changing so rapidly and is
no longer the same world that parents in this generation could freely roam around in
their own childhood. Some argue that free range parenting is nothing more than a
mere negligence over their children in that the world is now simply too dangerous
for the children to explore on their own. They say that the world is no longer safe
for a child to be outside alone and that so called free range parenting is just being
irresponsible parents. However, they are wrong. Although free range parenting may
look so dangerous and unnecessarily risky, it, in fact, has far more advantages than
disadvantages and is and has been an enormous necessity when raising children for a
number of reasons: it makes
Gothic Conventions
Gothic literature has an incredibly vast and important history. It is based off of gothic
architecture and became a genre in literature in the late 1700s. This genre was created
by the rejection of predictability and this sent writers to the murky past , The Middle
Ages, to write about (Snodgrass). Overall, this time period provided substantial
inspiration for gothic literature because it was highly contrasting with its prominent
improvements and horrible crimes. Later on, in the 18th century, gothic literature
evolved from being about the Middle Ages to current problems with contemporary
culture and social problems of the specific time era. Each time period and each
different place in the world had different subjects that gothic literature... Show more

This genre is so appealing to use for movies since it has such a strong sense of
morbidness, suspense, horror, and overall creepiness. In essence, all of these the
emotions and gut instincts are what make these movies so appealing to an audience
and make these conventions so popular. In the long run, many movies are recreated
or based on popular gothic stories. Horror and romantic movies are the most
influenced by gothic literature with mystery and action movies being very closely
influenced as well. With how well gothic conventions have blended into modern it
becomes almost impossible to see where the influence of gothic literatures begins and
ends. On the whole, these movies are influenced by gothic conventions such as:
dissolution of the family structure, mental breakdowns, elements of the supernatural,
dark and foreboding nature, and hundreds more. All in all, this very clearly shows
how important gothic literature is to contemporary culture, even though it is
becoming more difficult to distinguish what is gothic
Edgar Degas Research Paper Outline
Hilaire German Edgar Degas was born in Paris, France on July 19, 1834. He was
the son of Auguste de Gas, a banker, and Celestine Musson de Gas, an American
from New Orleans. Edgar was the oldest of the five children Auguste and Celestine
had. Their family was members of the middle class, however, for many years their
familyspelled their name de Gas which thanks to the preposition de suggested that
their family was from a land owning aristocratic background. It wasn t until 1870 that
Edgar changed his name to the less aristocratic sounding Degas.
You could say that Edgar Degas was born with artistic blood running through his

Hunter Thompson Gonzo Journalism
The excess use of guns, booze, and too many drugs to count easily summarizes the
life and writing of Hunter S. Thompson. The American culture of the 1960s began to
alter with the hippie generation, and the same old drab writing was not fulfilling the
desires of the American reader. During the 1970s, American literature and journalism
transformed in a way that no one would have ever been able to predict. Thompson
found a way to turn the tables, and effected generations to come in a new dynamic
writing style that many authors and journalist nowadays adopt. The life and writing
of Hunter S. Thompsonhad great influence on the creation of gonzo journalism,
politics, and American culture. Even after forty years, Hunter S. Thompson s
creation of gonzo journalism became a fashionable style of writing that remains
impersonated. Gonzo journalism has numerous different characteristics; one of the
most predominant is writing as a triple agent. To write in this style one becomes
the biographical author and a narrator at the same time. In a journal from Olga
Fayzullina she describes gonzo journalism as, The author s position is always dual,
on the one hand, he is an observer and witness of real events, on the other hand, and
he is an active participant who shows the high degree of reflection and self
reflection. (276). Furthermore, another key to gonzo journalism is the use of fact and
fiction integrated together to portray a desired message to the reader. The use of

Rorschach Interpretive Procedure
The interpretive procedure, the 4 s, provides a significant structure to organize the
key findings of the Rorschach inkblot assessment by modifying and adjusting the
interpretations based on idiographic factors. This procedure is categorized into
four steps: Scan, Sift, Synthesize, and Summarize. The first step is a brief
preemptive step where the assessor scans over the scores in order to look for any
extreme scores to give them a better idea of what they might find in the following
steps. Sifting is the next step where the clinician carefully goes through all of the
results, noting the standard score for each variable, section by section. The purpose of

Personal Culture And World View
It is a big undertaking to attempt to explain one s culture and world view in a few
words. My culture and world view began within the house I was raised. I come
from a white, middle class family, with a household of 5. My mom and dad both
worked very hard to maintain a middle class living status for their family, and made
many sacrifice. Values that were stressed in my household were loyalty, work
ethic, family bonds, and character. Religion did not play a big part in my
household growing up, and lack of religion, or self reliance was stressed more.
Both of my parents worked, however gender roles were pretty obvious in my
house. My mother not only worked, but also took care of many of the household
chores, while my father handled lawn work, mechanical tasks, etc. The biggest
world view that sticks out for me that I learned growing up is that if you work hard
enough, you can achieve anything. However, you have to work for it there are no
hand outs. In writing this, I can think back to many times where racial, or racist,
statements were made in my house. It can be hard to talk about, and I cannot
provide justification for many of the comments. Our home was about 10 blocks
from public housing. I can recall driving past, and many times, my dad pointing out
the fact that those people didn t have to work for anything. He would often say,
look, we are paying for their houses with our tax money, and they drive better cars
and wear better clothes then we do. This had a
Other Relevant Explanations Of Vedic Astrology
Other Relevant Explanations
Vedic astrology further classifies human life span according planetary periods called
Dashas, both Main (Maha) and Sub (Antar or Bukti) periods. Knowing a particular
planetary Dasha helps us determine the quality of the time concerned, vis a vis the
influence of the major transits of planets during that Dasha period.
Currently you are subject to Shani (Saturn) Maha Dasa which began on June 2004
and goes on until June 2023. Prior to this, you were subject to Jupiter or Guru
Maha Dasa for 16years from June 1988 until June 2004. The 16 years of Guru Dasa

Further, Shani s malefic expression affecting marriage and spouse is because; in
your horoscope Guru (Jupiter ) denotes spouse. And among significations in a family
or relationship Ravi (Surya/Sun) denotes the official or socially recognized position
for the male spouse. Now Shani is a bitter enemy of Surya (Sun). Hence, between
2004 and 2007 when transit Saturn (Gochara Shani) enters your 3rd house of
communication he afflicts natal Guru who sits in your 3rd house. Now according to
Jyotish classification natal Guru clearly denotes your spouse. Hence, by virtue of
transit Shani s entry into your 3rd house from May 2004 and October 2006, he
negatively conjuncts with natal Guru afflicting communication and martial harmony
between you and your husband.
Note: in the natural zodiac 3rd house denotes communication. And in the Vedic
system of significations Guru(Jupiter) denotes spouse in a female s chart. Now in
your horoscope 3rd house is also the sign of Cancer or Kataka. And Kataka is ruled
by Chandra (Moon). And in Jyotish Moon denotes our mind. Therefore, without a
shadow of doubt the entry of Gochara Shani upon the house of communication will
inflict his poison upon the mind of the spouses; causing separation and affliction of
marriage.
Next between October 2006 and September 2009 Gochara Shani enters your 4th
house denoting home, bonds of attachments and legal ties. Now your 4th house is the

Misogyny In The Wife Of Bath
Misogyny is not only visible in the Miller s tale, but also in the Wife of Bath s tale
through the very superficial standards set for women by men. The old woman asks
that the knight marries her in return for giving him the answer to the riddle and he
reacts in disgust and horror, ...to take me as your wife... Alas and woe is me!...I am
ugly and poor...my damnation! Alas, that any of my birth should ever be so foully
disgraced! (Chaucer, The Wife of Bath s Tale, 199 213). The knight is visibly
distraught, using words such as damnation and disgraced when the old woman
expresses her wish to marry him. He displays these emotions not because she
wants to get married, but because she is ugly and poor. He is worried because an
ugly wife will mar his reputation and is a poor reflection of him. This translates to
the misogynistic society during the time period where women were seen as property
to be shown off, rather than people who deserved respect. The recurring theme of
misogyny in these two tales shows that Chaucer does not feel sympathy for the
opposite gender, but instead belittles their plight.
In both tales, each woman is judged based on her attractiveness, they are both
surrendered to the unfair and superficial beauty standards of the age Chaucer lived
in. The women are negatively portrayed based on the attributes they display. The old
woman is ugly and poor and therefore is seen as a woman unfit to be a wife. The
reaction of the knight when he finds out that he

To understand the meaning of cost sheet
In order to determine and take a dispassionate view about what lies beneath the
surface of accounting figures, a financial analyst has to make use of different
management accounting techniques. Cost techniques have a precedence over the
other techniques since accounting treatment of cost is often both complex and
financially significant. For example, if a firm proposes to increase its output by

are also given due consideration by management before deciding upon the price but
the cost plays a dominating role.
Determining and Controlling Efficiency
Cost accounting involves a study of various operations used in manufacturing a
product or providing a service. The study facilitates measuring the efficiency of an
organization as a whole or department wise as well as devising means of increasing
efficiency.
Cost accounting also uses a number of methods, e.g., budgetary control, standard
costing etc. for controlling costs. Each item viz. materials, labour and expenses is
budgeted at the commencement of a period and actual expenses incurred are
compared with budget. This greatly increases the operating efficiency of an enterprise.
Facilitating Preparation of Financial and Other Statements
The third objective of cost accounting is to produce statements whenever is required
by management. The financial statements are prepared under financial accounting
generally once a year or half year and are spaced too far with respect to time to meet
the needs of management. In order to operate a business at a high level of efficiency,
it is essential for management to have a frequent review of production, sales and
operating results. Cost accounting provides daily, weekly or monthly volumes of
units produced and accumulated costs with appropriate analysis. A developed cost
accounting system provides immediate information regarding stock of raw

Case Analysis: The Devil s Own Wine Shoppe
Introduction
The article, The Devil s Own Wine Shoppe revolves around the wine store owned by
Bruce Nelson and his wife, Mary Lee. Being a business owner has been a life long
dream of Bruce. They opened the wine store in August 1974 with initial capital of
$22,000 and an initial outlay of $17,258. In addition to owning the wine store, Bruce

Not only were the competitors able to price their products lower than the Nelsons
they were able to offer discounts that the Nelson s could not afford to offer; thus
making them more attractive to the consumer. Lastly, the competitors were able to
advertise on a level that was not financially feasible for the Nelsons. Because of their
advertising abilities, the competitors were able to create more awareness of their
wine selection that the Nelsons which subsequently pulled customers away from the
Nelson s wine store.
The Nelson s wine store was operating a loss. They began their business with a
$7,000 personal savings investment and a $15,000 which they had not been able to
begin repayment during their nine months of operations. After the performance of
a financial analysis, it was concluded that the Nelsons were losing on average $802
per month with estimated average monthly sales of $1,888 and estimated average
monthly expenses of $1,580. At these levels, not only could the Nelsons not make a
profit, they could not breakeven. In order to breakeven, the Nelsons would need to
generate sales of $5,642 offering no salary to Bruce or $9,214 offering a salary to
Bruce.
Problem Statement
Which income generating venture should the Nelson s pursue: the wine shop or
fulltime employment at the dealership?
Qualities Of A Good Friend Essay
One of my favorite part of the song Lean On Me by Bill Withers is a Sometimes in
our lives we all have pain we all have sorrow But if we are wise we know that there
s always tomorrow. In other words, no matter how arduous and challenging life can
be, another better opportunity will be given the next day. In life, people should
identify the difference between the real friends or fake friends. In addition, the
qualities of a good friends are trustworthiness, have good attitude, and last being
thoughtful. To begin with, first quality of a good friend is someone who is
trustworthy. A trustworthy is someone who are honest, loyal, and caring. An example
scenario of a trustworthy was taking initiative ways to return an important item such

There is multiple method to become a respectful person. One notorious method is
the use of kind phrase to elders such as no mam, no sir, yes sir, yes mam with a
polite tone of voice. Second method is having a positive and clear mindset at all
times. These two methods are the main characteristic of having good attitude.
Another example of a good friend is someone who have a moral value. A friend
who care his reputation and afraid to lose it. Moral values are something parents
need to educate their children at home. By lecturing the children, the basic values, it
can cause children in young age to understand and learned about moral values. Thus,
an incredible attitude is one relevant characteristic of good friends. Last, the third
quality of a good friend is their thoughtfulness. These types of friends care for one
another by taking time to reminisce birthday, other important events and friend s
situation. One example of thoughtfulness is planning a simple surprise party. Usually
thoughtfulness friends do majority of planning and preparation. They normally look
for places to hold the party. They decide the color skim or sometimes make hand
crafts decoration that gives personal touch ups. An in expansive surprise birthday
party planned by friends really means a lot. Another example of a thoughtful friend
is offering a ride whenever the other person s car broke down. Marco and Jonathan
were both at the football stadium and watching the game live.
Cultural Competency On Healthcare Delivery
As the diverse populations of the United States (U.S.) continues to grow the need for
cultural competency in healthcare delivery requires culturally competent healthcare
providers. Each population has its own particular norms and practices that guide their
lifestyles; therefore, a challenge arises for healthcare providers to learn to provide
culturally sensitive care to clients from diverse cultural backgrounds (Waite and
Calamaro 2010). The ever changing population of the U.S. signifies a much needed
change in health care delivery to different cultures. The U.S. Bureau of Census (1992)
predicts that by the year 2020 only 53 % of the population will be of white European
decent. Unfortunately, the lack of culturally competent healthcare providers such as
nurses, leads to negative patient outcomes and low quality healthcare. Culturally
competent nurses are required to adequately treat our culturally diverse population.
Nurses are frontline patient advocates and education and training in cultural
competence is an intervention that will implement positive changes in healthcare
delivery in the U.S.
Definition of Cultural Competence
Professional nursing services provided utilizing cultural competence is a way of
providing healthcare to a diverse population without bias to patient s cultural beliefs.
Increasing cultural competence and providing culturally congruent care in nursing
can improve the quality of care and health outcomes (Ahmann 2002).

Influence Of The Renaissance On Modern Western Society
Essay
The renaissance was a time of great and immeasurable change within all aspects of
European life; so much so that it could be seen as beginnings of our modern western
society. Leading this revitalization in culture and society in Europe s historical
development were to the two of the most dominant states of renaissance Italy,
Florenceand Venice. These small city states were the powerhouses of the time and
assisted speeding up the renaissance and helped spur revolutionary developments
along the way being the main hubs of influence in the Italian peninsula during the
late 13th and early 16th century. Florence could be characterized as a financial
centre, with their banking system considered extraordinarily ahead of time; in
addition being the main producers of fine elevated their chances to conduct
successful trading ventures. Venice was considered one of the largest centers of
trade being a coastal city of the shores of the Adriatic Sea, which allowed for
prosperous trade with what was then considered the Eastern world; the city was
also well known for their quality in ship building as well which likely contributed
to them being a large naval power in the region. Now due to fact that both city states
were two different sovereign parts of Italy meant having two different approaches
and views on or about a multitude of ideas. To understand the impact of Florence and
Venice, the two very influential and affluent republics in renaissance Italy, it is
crucial to analyze their over

Production Planning
Introduction
The intention of this project is to demonstrate the function of production planning in
a non artificial environment. Through this simulation we are able to forecast, with a
degree of certainty the monthly requirements for end products, subassemblies, parts
and raw materials. We are supplied with information that we are to base our
decisions on. The manufacturer depicted in this simulation was actually a General
Electric facility that produced black and white television sets Syracuse, New York.

equipment was shipped off to China. One can only wonder if the plant manager

Next we calculate the labor that goes into transforming these parts into a viable end
product. We get a total of six hours of running man hours/unit and an hourly labor
rate of $8.50, which gives us a total of fifty one dollars. This gives a minimal total
cost of
$101 to produce product one. This number is useful in determining how much a unit
actually cost to manufacture and what we must minimally sell the product for to
make a profit. We can than analyze if a product costs to much to make or the sum of
the parts is more than the price of the end product. Product eight had the lowest direct
minimum cost ($89.50) and four had the highest minimal direct cost. From a purely
economic stand point, it would be beneficial to use as much of raw material twenty
three ($5 unit) and as little of raw material twenty two ($30 unit). This does not
consider that raw material twenty two may actually be more valuable than raw
material twenty three. Perhaps raw material twenty two may be gold or silver and
raw material twenty three may be sand or glass. I also converted all information in
the sales history per month (figure four of the MANMAN packet). The purpose of
this step was so that I could sort and add the sales numbers to chronicle the past
twenty four months. Clearly product one was the best selling apparatus, and product
three, four and five where sales laggards. Entering the information into spreadsheet

The Ethical Issues in Hamlett by William Shakespeare
Hamlet is one of the most well known and renown plays in the history of theatrics.
It s known for its ethical issues, gender discrimination and many other themes
throughout the play. In fact it s filled with themes such as Morality, Revenge,
Deceit, and Family. Hamlet is such a great play because of how its many themes are
intricately woven into the plot creating a fabulous storyline filled with tragedy.
Revenge is a dish best served cold, being one of the biggest themes in the play, at its
Hamlets biggest goal in the play. From the very start Hamlet was out seeking
revenge over his father s death. He wanted to kill Claudius because Claudius killed
his father, in an effort to become king himself. Hamlet then becomes obsessed with
seeking vengeance, going so far as to fake madness in order to prove that Claudius
is truly guilty for his father s murder... Along with Revenge comes Hamlet s streak
of Madness, He feigns madness almost like a tool at his disposal. Hamlet first uses
the illusion of his madness as a way of proving Claudius s guiltiness. His madness
acts as an excuse so that he can get away with strange behavior, and he won t be
held accountable for his actions. He feigns madness for so long that his depression
over his father s death and his mother s remarriage pushes him into a madness
which is not faked but rather quite real. He goes as far as to consider suicide. To be
or not to be, that is the question: Whether tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings

Phineas P. Gage Essay
Phineas P. Gage was born in 1823. He was a railroad construction worker outside a
small town of Cavendish, Vermont. On September 13, 1848, Phineas suffered
from a traumatic brain injury, which caused severe damage to parts of his frontal
brain due to his accident at work. The day of Phineas accident, he was performing
his work duties on the construction of a railroad track. His duty was to set explosive
charges in holes drilled into large pieces of rock so that they could be broken up
and removed. He had to fill the holes with gunpowder, with a fuse, and then pack in
sand with a large tamping iron. Because gage was distracted on September 13, 1948,
he forgot to fill in one of the holes with sand. In result, when he went to pack down

assistant, and for about seven years, as a coach driver in Chile. He was also
worked on a farm before his death. Gage moved to San Francisco with his mother
in 1859. Sadly on May 21, 1860 Gage past away. Neurologist Antonio Damasio has
written significantly on Gage and other patients that he studied on with similar
injuries. Damasio viewed Gage s case as playing a crucial role in the history of
neuroscience, and stated that Gage s story was the historical beginnings of the study
of the biological basis of behavior . Gage s case inspired the development of frontal
lobotomy, which now is a psychosurgical procedure that leads to emotional response
and personality traits. On the other hand, historical analysis doesn t support this
claim because Gage s injury didn t have enough influence on the development of this
practice. Gage not only suffered the accident but it had a dramatic impact on his life.
There was criticism of Gage s story including the doubts on accuracy between
scientific and popular discourse from Australian psychologist Malcolm Macmillan.
According to Macmillan there was little information about Gage s personality and
habits before the accident. The post traumatic psychological changes reported while
Gage was still alive were less dramatic than later reports had stated. A first report was

The Rising Costs Of Higher Education
There is no doubt that pricing of higher education has increased, changing the
number and groups of people that are able to receive it, often being those with a
high socioeconomic status. The rising costs of many colleges cause many people to
wonder whether or not a pricier education really results in a better life (including
better/more job opportunities in the area studied). As a result, many prospective
American students are examining alternatives in hopes of reducing their debt load.
One of the ways in which they are attempting to do so is by pursuing a degree from
an institution in another country. The trends within education has changed a lot,
increasing prices, and increasing demand. There is much controversy over whether or
not students seeking further education should increase their debt load from a tens of
thousands of dollars, to hundreds, for a well known collegename and degree. Post
World War II, schools in America during the 1950s were suffering with teacher and
building shortages due to increased enrollment. With increasing demand, that also
meant that there were more things that could be influenced, especially by the
government. In the 1960s, the shortage continued, including a lot of desegregation
with both K 12 schools, and colleges. The call for more schools resulted in the
opening of community colleges; institutions that are primarily focused on students
from a particular area, often associated with a lower price tag than Ivy Leagues or

Essay Grave s Disease
The disease was first noted in 1786 by Caleb Hillier Parry 1755 1822, physician
from General Hospital, Bath, England. His account was published posthumously in
1825.
However Graves disease is named after the Irish physician who described several
cases in London Medical Journal in 1835. Graves disease is also known as Parry s
disease. In Europe, the disease is known as Basedow s disease. It is the most
common cause of thyrotoxicosis (the morbid condition due to over activity of the
thyroid gland).
The disorder has three major manifestations:
Hyperthyroidism with diffuse goiter
Ophthalmopathy
and Dermopathy

and moreover, the three may run ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the evidence that Graves disease is autoimmune in origin is quite
convincing.
Hyperthyroidism and goiter are immunologically mediated. It results from the
production of auto antibodies directed against the TSH ( thyroid stimulating
hormone) receptors on the thyroid follicular cells or closely related cell membrane
domains.
Auto antibodies are of two types:
TSI ( thyroid stimulating immunoglobulins) or TSH receptor antibodies ( TRAb)
which mimic the action of TSH and thereby inducing the hypersecretion of thyroid
hormones.
TGI ( thyroid growth stimulating immunoglobulins) which initiates the growth of
thyroid cells.
The question is what initiates these autoimmune reactions? The answer is not clear
but genetic, immune and environmental considerations are important.
In genetically predisposed individuals, infection with viruses or bacteria may serve
as a trigger. Certain strains of E. coli and Yersinia enterocolitica possess cell
membrane TSH receptors. The production of antibodies to these pathogens might
cross react with host TSH receptors on thyroid follicular cells to result in
hyperthyroidism.
Emotional stress is often dismissed as etiologically important. However, more than
once have we seen a temporal relationship between the onset of hyperthyroidism and
a major life event such as the death of a
The Negative Impact Of Technology s Impact On Society
Technology s Impact on Society
In 2002, during an interview with Wired Magazine Steven Spielberg said,
Technology can be our best friend, and technology can also be the biggest party
pooper of our lives. It interrupts our own story, interrupts our ability to have a
thought or a daydream, to imagine something wonderful, because we re too busy
bridging the walk from the cafeteria back to the office on the cell phone (Kennedy,
para. 7). In the twentieth first century, we all have a certain kind of technology that
makes our life easier in many ways from the most basic to the most complex, such as
lighting, cell phones, internet, cars, etc. When we think about technology, it suddenly
reminds us of entertainment, but it provides more than entertainment, it provides us
with everything. It is unthinkable that nowadays we can live without technology and
yet, it influences us both positively and negatively.
However, have people ever thought about how technology changes and affects us?
According to All Africa in Negative Effect of Technology on Society, due to the
improvement of technology, it has more control over our daily life because we
revolve around it. Even though society is able to adapt to the technology s
advancement, it only looks for the benefits of its uses and is not aware of
technology s setbacks (All Africa, para. 1). The analogous of the pros and cons of
technology s usages has been discussed over the years, but just as Spielberg says,
technology is great as long

Delays in DVD returns and the processing of the returns could possibly result in a
bottlenecking.
В§Difficulty of inventory control. With so many different factors involved with the
inventory system, it is hard to keep track of all titles accurately and reliably. With
over 35 distribution centers involved, and the postal system as the primary means of
delivery, accurate inventory methods are difficult and costly. In addition, with no
controls of how long a customer may keep a copy of a DVD, Netflix must have to
order more copies of each title in order to satisfy all demands for DVD s in a timely
manner.
Opportunities
В§Netflix currently offers no selection of video games such as those for X Box,
Game Cube, Playstation2, etc. The video game market is an incredibly large market,
with millions in annual sales. By employing the same technology and distribution
system that Netflix currently uses for DVD rentals, the company could easily enter
the video game rental market with relative ease.
В§Similarly, Netflix could also enter the adult DVD rental industry using the same
technology as used for regular DVD s. Entering a controversial market segment
such as adult DVD s may not be a part of the overall company image that Netflix
would like, however it is a large profitable market
Climbing Mount Everest In Jon Krakauer s Into Thin Air
Climbing Mount Everest, though a great accomplishment few can say to have done,
is a life threatening ordeal. In the book, Into Thin Air, the audience is guided through
the entire tragic event through the author, Jon Krakauer s eyes. Whilst conquering
Mount Everest, eight lives were taken from them on May 10 11, both clients and
guides. But the big question still remains unsettled; Who is responsible for the deaths
that occurred on Mount Everest? Jon Krakauerholds greed accountable for the all the
deaths that day. Though there isn t a certain to put blame upon, it was more of a
certain group s fault than it was others. Careless mistakes and decisions were also
huge factors which eventually led up to their disaster. Mountain climbingis already a
dangerous sport itself but making it a competition took it to a whole different
level of danger. Everywhere you looked, there was competition; sherpas were
competing against one another to be hired by the guiding services, guide services
were competing for the publicity and exposure from the media, even Krakauer was
being fought for by two guides to be in their group because of the exposure
Krakauer s going to bring after he publicizes his article about his expedition. Nepal
were mindless when allowing who could and who could not climb. They would let
just about anyone go for the right amount of money and the guides, who were more
experienced, should have known better to let such inexperienced climbers go. Everest

Animal Testing And Why It Should Continue

Animal Testing and Why It Should Continue Jeremy Bentham once said, The
question is not, Can they reason? nor, Can they talk? but Can they suffer? Animal
testing is becoming a conflict right now and I believe that Animal testing should be
stopped because it is cruel and inhuman, Alternative testing technologies exist, the
lack of reliability, and it is expensive. Another quote once said was by Martin
Luther King Jr stating Never, never be afraid to do what s right, especially if the
well being of a person or animal is at stake That quote is saying why do wrong
when right can be done, especially when people and animals are involved. Animals
have feelings and enjoy life as much as humans do so keeping them in captivity and
testing drugs on them is cruel and inhuman. It is understandable that animal testing
is helpful, and we can t test drugs on humans, but when alternative testing options
are available there is no reason to keep animals in captivity and test drug, harm, and
kill them. Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing (CAAT) is a program that was
designed to begin vitro testing. This program was established by Johns Hopkins.
The CAAT was created in 1988 and funded by more than 70 corporations (Hunter).
These corporations funded this program to change animal testing a find alternative

Yong Scared To Death
According to the passage Scared to Death, Yong analyzes the term landscape of fear
in many different ways. The term landscape of fear is more complicated than one
might interpret it (Yong ll 21 22). One might define the term as a geographical
location in which there are many predators. However, Yong approaches it with an
entirely different view. Yong emphasizes the term landscape of fear
in a positive way
rather than viewing it as something that would hurt ecology.
One reason Yong views the landscape of fear in a positive way is because
Yellowstone National Park specifically is having an elk issue in which they are
destroying the park s trees. Elk are prey to wolves in areas such as the Canadian
wilderness. According to the text,
The Actor-Network Theory In The Film A Crude Awakening
The Actor Network Theory, also known as ANT, explores the way sociotechnological
elements are assembled as well as how large scale social structures work through
various networks of stabilized materials. It considers both human and non human
actors, networks, and actor networks. An actor is considered anything with the ability
to act. This includes human and non human entities. The network is what ties
together people and objects, making the groups interconnected. The Actor Network
Theorylooks at how the actors are connected, the links that connect them. It looks are
ways in which various technologies and artifacts help to shape the patterns of society
(Larose, 2017).
To analyze the documentary A Crude Awakening we must first identify the actors
participating in the network. The documentary talks about society s dependence on
oil and how essential it is to the world today. The people seem to understand that
there are flaws in the use of oil and that it harms the environment however that doesn
t stop people from using it. The documentary talks about oil being God, an essential
item to keep society running. People forget that oil will run out, they forget that there

b. Data shows validity when the test or tool used to obtain the data is believable. Two
different ways of determining validity is internal and external. Internal research will
show whether the research tool used has measured what the research determined from

research found into other areas that are similar to the research. A researcher can use
three methods to find the validity of a test. The content method decides what content

My First Place For Ice Cream After Dinner !
When I was a young child one of my mother s favourite motivational tools to make
me behave involved her saying, if you re good we ll go for ice cream after dinner!
. She cleverly knew I loved the cold treat and using it as an incentive reward
became part of her parental repertoire. From the first time she used such tactics I
was hooked. Going out for ice cream quickly became the beginning of something
very special for me growing up in the Hamilton area. My hot summers were marked
by many childhood memories, but one consistently springs to mind: enjoying
delicious ice cream on hot summer nights. In Hamilton, that place was Stoney Creek

friends and family at Stoney Creek Dairy. From childhood through teenage years to
adulthood, it has consistently provided yummy treats, happiness and fond memories.
Stoney Creek Dairy was the first place I remember visiting when I moved to
Hamilton in August of 1991. Looking back, it became one the most sentimental
experiences of my entire life. The first time we went I vividly remember planning
all the way there with such excitement about picking a flavour. With my face against
the cold glass with wide eyes I stared at what seemed like an endless amount of
choices and flavours to be had. After taste testing a few I got hooked on my favourite
Pralines and Cream, still my favourite to this day. It always really busy during

The Contamination Of Water Pollution
Water is a transparent, odorless, tasteless liquid which is a compound of hydrogen
and oxygen. Consuming untreated water can lead to serious health issues. Water
can be purified by boiling, distillation or by chemical means like adding bleach.
Presence of color in drinking water may be due to the presence of colored organic
matter like iron or highly colored industrial wastes. Odors in water may also be due
to industrial pollution or increased biological activity.

Dangers Of Identity Theft
Identity theft is rarely talked about, but it is one of the easiest crimes to be a victim
too.
Thieves can easily get their hands on the information they need through pick
pocketing. ( Identity Theft ). While you can insist they re safe because they will
never have their wallet, or purse stolen, pickpocketing thieves are the least of your
concerns. One of the most common ways that identities are stolen is dumpster diving
( Identity Theft ). This means anything you have thrown away could make you the
next victim of identity theft, rather it be a old bank statement, paper receipts from a
store, or even an old check thieves could use the information to steal your identity.
While we modernize away from paper records, criminals update their ... Show more

For instance, few of the things the criminals do include: making credit accounts,
filing mortgages, buying guns, filing bankruptcy, and committing numerous crimes
all under the victim s name (Evans). While the victim of identity theft is innocent,
they are responsible and held fully accountable of the actions acted upon by their
identity thief. Furthermore, the victims employers are often forced to fire them due
to the problems created under their name, and with the dilemma occurring the victim
rarely is able to find another employer to hire them (Introduction to Identity Theft).
On top of the physical problems created, having an identity stolen will cause extreme
amounts of emotional imbalance. Victims of identity theft spend thousands of dollars
to fix the destruction the identity thief created for them (Identity Theft). Besides
being expensive to overcome, trying to clear your name is requires an enormous time
investment. In addition to spending thousands dollars, victims spend over a thousand
hours trying to recover their diluted identity (Identity Theft). In conclusion, having
your identity stolen is a matter of a tremendous sacrifice of your time, money, and

Fair Value Accounting Is Worth Being Used
There have been many debates in previous decades amongst the investors, users of
the financial statements, on whether fair value accounting is worth being used.
According to IFRS 13, fair value is the price that would be received to sell an asset
or paid to transfer a liability in an orderly transaction between market participants at
the measurement date . Usage of fair valuehas advantages, however, it has
disadvantages as well. This essay will discuss how fair value is more advantageous
than disadvantageous and how it is carried out. It will also examine how fair value
led Lehman Brothers, an American investment bank, into bankruptcy during the
global financial crisis and why the trend of fair value has emerged in the recent
decades.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is beneficial for the investors as it means that they can be confident that their
decisions are correct and that the finances of the business will not suddenly change.
Bubble prices can be an issue for investors as it may mislead them into making poor
investing decisions. There is plenty of empirical evidence to show that bubble prices
exist (Ryan, 2008). These price bubbles, according to Penman (2007), are introduced
into financial statements through the usage of fair value accounting. He goes on to
say that this causes bubble gains to reflect on the income statement, and these may,
falsely, show the company as being healthy which could lull investors into a false
sense of security. These bubbles also result in the investor receiving ineffective
financial statements which will impair their decision making. An example of this
would be where investors pay prices that far exceed their own valuation (Scheinkman
and Xiong, 2003). This would make it tough for investors to earn a reasonable return
on their investments. However, the research fails to consider the difficulties locating
price bubbles or how investors can prevent themselves from being misled. It also fails
to consider that bubble prices show the current trading price, albeit inflated, and
therefore show the true value of the investment according to current prices.

What Does It Mean To Be An Adult
What does it mean to be an adult in society today? Does it mean you have lived a
certain number of years and no matter what choices you have made in that time
span you are automatically considered an adult? Or is it based off your experiences
within that span of time? A persons circumstances give a better understanding of his
maturity level as opposed to looking solely at his or her age. In society today once
you reach the ageof eighteen or in some areas twenty one, you are considered an
adult and are bestowed with all the opportunities and responsibilities that come with
this. Such as being able to purchase tobacco products, having to register for selective
service agreement, no longer having to abide by a curfew, and if you are in high...

Technically, turning eighteen makes you legally an adult according to the
government of the Unites States of America. However, when you analyze this term,
there is so much more to it than that. Being an adult means you are able to support
yourself not just financially, but also bodily and spiritually. What does it meanto
support yourself physically though? Supporting yourself physically means you are
able to take care of yourself on a day to day basis from a hygienic point of view.
You bathe regularly, know how to wash clothes, clean up after yourself, are able to
prepare food for yourself, and other tasks such as that. Since coming to college I
have realized that it is necessary to know how to care for myself on a day to day
basis because there is no one here to remind me to do it. Also, my appearance is a
direct reflection of myself and my character. If I walk around smelling bad and
appearing disheveled that reflects poorly on me because it appears that I do not
know how to properly care for myself. That would reflect poorly on my character
and would in turn hurt me financially. I would not be able to get a job because I
would not appear qualified. Most adults know how to do the bare minimum at the
least, as this can have an effect on the other two aspects of taking care of yourself.
Personally, having a religious connection is important to me. It is not important to
everyone, however to some it is the backbone of

  • 1. Environmental Problem Essay Crafting an essay on the topic of environmental problems is no small feat. The sheer breadth and complexity of the subject make it a challenging endeavor that demands meticulous research, thoughtful analysis, and effective communication skills. First and foremost, one must delve into the vast realm of environmental issues, ranging from climate change and deforestation to pollution and loss of biodiversity. Each of these subtopics requires in-depth exploration, with the need to comprehend scientific data, understand policy implications, and grasp the socio-economic factors at play. The process involves sifting through an overwhelming amount of information, distinguishing reliable sources from misinformation, and synthesizing a coherent narrative that reflects a nuanced understanding of the problems at hand. Additionally, addressing the interconnectivity of these issues and their global implications adds another layer of complexity to the essay. Crafting a compelling thesis statement and organizing the essay's structure becomes crucial, as the essay must present a clear argument and provide evidence to support it. The challenge lies in striking a balance between presenting alarming facts and maintaining a hopeful tone that encourages readers to take action. Moreover, conveying the urgency of environmental problems without succumbing to alarmism is a delicate task. The essay must strike a chord with readers, fostering a sense of responsibility and motivating them to engage with the issues rather than overwhelming them into inaction. Finally, the writing process involves honing language skills to articulate complex ideas in a way that is accessible to a broad audience. Achieving clarity and precision while avoiding jargon is essential for effectively communicating the gravity of the environmental challenges we face. In conclusion, tackling an essay on environmental problems demands a combination of research prowess, critical thinking skills, and effective communication. It is a task that requires dedication, time, and a genuine passion for the subject matter. • 2. Bomb ( Fallout ) Shelters Bomb(Fallout) Shelters In the 1950 s during Dwight D. Eisenhower s presidency which was also the peak of the Cold War, The Soviet Union s development and testing of WMD s (Atomic, Nuclear and H Bomb) raised fears of war around the world. The Soviet Union started to expand their idea of communism to democratic nations in Europe, this raised tensions with the U.S. which heighten fear and anxiety of the American public of an imminent nuclear/Atom/H Bomb war between the super powers. The Federal Civil DefenseAdministration created by President Harry Truman launched an aggressive campaign educating the American public especially those in the suburbs on how to survive, the government believed that cities would be the primary targets and people leaving near needed to know how to survive. According to an article titled U.S. H Bomb Test Put Lethal Zone at 7,000 Sq Miles by William M. Blair published in the New York Times on February 16th 1955, the chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission Lewis L. Strauss said Since nuclear weapons are in possession of the U.S.S.R. the commission believes that the American people wish to be informed regarding the dangers of nuclear explosions and the measures which individuals can take to protect themselves if an atomic attack should occur***. . After 48 nuclear atom and H Bomb tests in the Pacific by the U.S., scientists were able to study the effects of the aftermath in the immediate and surrounding areas of the blasts. Other than the
  • 3. The And Borrowing Of Georges Bizet s Carmen EXOTICISM AND BORROWING IN GEORGES BIZET S CARMEN On March 3rd of 1875, Bizet s opГ©ra comique, Carmen, debuted in Paris and was received poorly by its mostly bourgeois audience. While today Carmen is esteemed as one of Bizet s masterpieces, it was not initially thought as such. In his book, D.C. Parker addresses the fact that opera goers at the time were content with watching Italian operas that displayed plots of scandal among the upper class, but were shocked by the idea of Carmen a character content with her promiscuous, bohemian life and with no pretense of being a member of the upper class. Carmen has been described by Cooper as, a most sophisticated and advanced entertainment to which not all men would take their wives and no man would take his daughters . Throughout Georges Bizet s opera Carmen, he employs exoticism in various manners to captivate his audience with a Spanish and gypsy like atmosphere. The context provided from the historical analysis proves to be a crucial prospective in such a way that the rest of Krugman s narrative about modern finance continually relates back to the historical analysis. From there, Krugman analyzes and updates his prior studies done on the Asian financial crisis. He then applies his knowledge from historical events to the modern day financial struggles and argues his opinion about how and why our financial world operates the way it does. Krugman explains his perspective that the world believed that depression economicswas no longer a problem, however the Asian crisis, Japan s liquidity trap and the Latin American crisis having acted as warning signals to modern market struggles. I come from a white, middle class family, with a household of 5. My mom and dad both worked very hard to maintain a middle class living status for their family, and made many sacrifice. Values that were stressed in my household were loyalty, work ethic, family bonds, and character. Religion did not play a big part in my household growing up, and lack of religion, or self reliance was stressed more. Both of my parents worked, however gender roles were pretty obvious in my house. My mother not only worked, but also took care of many of the household chores, while my father handled lawn work, mechanical tasks, etc. The biggest world view that sticks out for me that I learned growing up is that if you work hard enough, you can achieve anything. However, you have to work for it there are no hand outs. In writing this, I can think back to many times where racial, or racist, statements were made in my house. It can be hard to talk about, and I cannot provide justification for many of the comments. Our home was about 10 blocks from public housing. The old woman asks that the knight marries her in return for giving him the answer to the riddle and he reacts in disgust and horror, ...to take me as your wife... Alas and woe is me!...I am ugly and poor...my damnation! Alas, that any of my birth should ever be so foully disgraced! (Chaucer, The Wife of Bath s Tale, 199 213). The knight is visibly distraught, using words such as damnation and disgraced when the old woman expresses her wish to marry him. He displays these emotions not because she wants to get married, but because she is ugly and poor. He is worried because an ugly wife will mar his reputation and is a poor reflection of him. This translates to the misogynistic society during the time period where women were seen as property to be shown off, rather than people who deserved respect. The recurring theme of misogyny in these two tales shows that Chaucer does not feel sympathy for the opposite gender, but instead belittles their plight. In both tales, each woman is judged based on her attractiveness, they are both surrendered to the unfair and superficial beauty standards of the age Chaucer lived in. The women are negatively portrayed based on the attributes they display. The old woman is ugly and poor and therefore is seen as a woman unfit to be a wife. Each population has its own particular norms and practices that guide their lifestyles; therefore, a challenge arises for healthcare providers to learn to provide culturally sensitive care to clients from diverse cultural backgrounds (Waite and Calamaro 2010). The ever changing population of the U.S. signifies a much needed change in health care delivery to different cultures. The U.S. Bureau of Census (1992) predicts that by the year 2020 only 53 % of the population will be of white European decent. Unfortunately, the lack of culturally competent healthcare providers such as nurses, leads to negative patient outcomes and low quality healthcare. Culturally competent nurses are required to adequately treat our culturally diverse population. Nurses are frontline patient advocates and education and training in cultural competence is an intervention that will implement positive changes in healthcare delivery in the U.S. Definition of Cultural Competence Professional nursing services provided utilizing cultural competence is a way of providing healthcare to a diverse population without bias to patient s cultural beliefs. Increasing cultural competence and providing culturally congruent care in nursing can improve the quality of care and health outcomes (Ahmann 2002). However, before one can become

These small city states were the powerhouses of the time and assisted speeding up the renaissance and helped spur revolutionary developments along the way being the main hubs of influence in the Italian peninsula during the late 13th and early 16th century. Venice was considered one of the largest centers of trade being a coastal city of the shores of the Adriatic Sea, which allowed for prosperous trade with what was then considered the Eastern world; the city was also well known for their quality in ship building as well which likely contributed to them being a large naval power in the region. Now due to fact that both city states were two different sovereign parts of Italy meant having two different approaches and views on or about a multitude of ideas. To understand the impact of Florence and Venice, the two very influential and affluent republics in renaissance Italy, it is crucial to analyze their over

Through this simulation we are able to forecast, with a degree of certainty the monthly requirements for end products, subassemblies, parts and raw materials. The manufacturer depicted in this simulation was actually a General Electric facility that produced black and white television sets Syracuse, New York. Next we calculate the labor that goes into transforming these parts into a viable end product. We get a total of six hours of running man hours/unit and an hourly labor rate of $8.50, which gives us a total of fifty one dollars. This gives a minimal total cost of $101 to produce product one. This number is useful in determining how much a unit actually cost to manufacture and what we must minimally sell the product for to make a profit. We can than analyze if a product costs to much to make or the sum of the parts is more than the price of the end product. Product eight had the lowest direct minimum cost ($89.50) and four had the highest minimal direct cost. From a purely economic stand point, it would be beneficial to use as much of raw material twenty three ($5 unit) and as little of raw material twenty two ($30 unit). This does not consider that raw material twenty two may actually be more valuable than raw material twenty three. Perhaps raw material twenty two may be gold or silver and raw material twenty three may be sand or glass. I also converted all information in the sales history per month (figure four of the MANMAN packet). The purpose of this step was so that I could sort and add the sales numbers to chronicle the past twenty four months. It s known for its ethical issues, gender discrimination and many other themes throughout the play. In fact it s filled with themes such as Morality, Revenge, Deceit, and Family. Hamlet is such a great play because of how its many themes are intricately woven into the plot creating a fabulous storyline filled with tragedy. Revenge is a dish best served cold, being one of the biggest themes in the play, at its Hamlets biggest goal in the play. From the very start Hamlet was out seeking revenge over his father s death. He wanted to kill Claudius because Claudius killed his father, in an effort to become king himself. Hamlet then becomes obsessed with seeking vengeance, going so far as to fake madness in order to prove that Claudius is truly guilty for his father s murder... Along with Revenge comes Hamlet s streak of Madness, He feigns madness almost like a tool at his disposal. Hamlet first uses the illusion of his madness as a way of proving Claudius s guiltiness. His madness acts as an excuse so that he can get away with strange behavior, and he won t be held accountable for his actions. He feigns madness for so long that his depression over his father s death and his mother s remarriage pushes him into a madness which is not faked but rather quite real. He goes as far as to consider suicide. To be or not to be, that is the question: Whether tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and

  • 32. The Rising Costs Of Higher Education There is no doubt that pricing of higher education has increased, changing the number and groups of people that are able to receive it, often being those with a high socioeconomic status. The rising costs of many colleges cause many people to wonder whether or not a pricier education really results in a better life (including better/more job opportunities in the area studied). As a result, many prospective American students are examining alternatives in hopes of reducing their debt load. One of the ways in which they are attempting to do so is by pursuing a degree from an institution in another country. The trends within education has changed a lot, increasing prices, and increasing demand. There is much controversy over whether or not students seeking further education should increase their debt load from a tens of thousands of dollars, to hundreds, for a well known collegename and degree. Post World War II, schools in America during the 1950s were suffering with teacher and building shortages due to increased enrollment. With increasing demand, that also meant that there were more things that could be influenced, especially by the government. In the 1960s, the shortage continued, including a lot of desegregation with both K 12 schools, and colleges. The call for more schools resulted in the opening of community colleges; institutions that are primarily focused on students from a particular area, often associated with a lower price tag than Ivy Leagues or other

Hyperthyroidism and goiter are immunologically mediated. It results from the production of auto antibodies directed against the TSH ( thyroid stimulating hormone) receptors on the thyroid follicular cells or closely related cell membrane domains. Auto antibodies are of two types: TSI ( thyroid stimulating immunoglobulins) or TSH receptor antibodies ( TRAb) which mimic the action of TSH and thereby inducing the hypersecretion of thyroid hormones. TGI ( thyroid growth stimulating immunoglobulins) which initiates the growth of thyroid cells. The question is what initiates these autoimmune reactions? The answer is not clear but genetic, immune and environmental considerations are important. In genetically predisposed individuals, infection with viruses or bacteria may serve as a trigger. Certain strains of E. coli and Yersinia enterocolitica possess cell membrane TSH receptors. The production of antibodies to these pathogens might cross react with host TSH receptors on thyroid follicular cells to result in hyperthyroidism. Emotional stress is often dismissed as etiologically important. However, more than once have we seen a temporal relationship between the onset of hyperthyroidism and a major life event such as the death of a

In the twentieth first century, we all have a certain kind of technology that makes our life easier in many ways from the most basic to the most complex, such as lighting, cell phones, internet, cars, etc. When we think about technology, it suddenly reminds us of entertainment, but it provides more than entertainment, it provides us with everything. It is unthinkable that nowadays we can live without technology and yet, it influences us both positively and negatively. However, have people ever thought about how technology changes and affects us? These price bubbles, according to Penman (2007), are introduced into financial statements through the usage of fair value accounting. He goes on to say that this causes bubble gains to reflect on the income statement, and these may, falsely, show the company as being healthy which could lull investors into a false sense of security.
