with him Augustine became one of the most prominent Latin Church Fathers. Plato,
on the other hand, was from an aristocratic and upper class family in Athens. He was
also one of Socrates s most highly regarded students and ended up opening his own
Academy. Plato s life was heavily influenced by the ideas of Socrates and heavily
impacted by the deterioration of Athenian politics (Pg. 80). After the conclusion of
the Peloponnesian War, political tensions in Athens began to arise between
different groups of people and Plato despised it. More specifically, Plato despised
democracy, as he thought it allowed unqualified people within the government to
make important decisions. After the execution of his beloved teacher, Plato vowed
to make a change. After Augustine s conversion, he wrote about his worldview,
which is laid out in his written work, The City of God. In this work, Augustine s
Two Cities concept is explained. Augustine wrote about two worlds or cities: an
earthly and a heavenly world. One world was formed by the love of the individual,
while the other was formed by the love of God. One is grounded in the power and
abilities of man, while the other is grounded in the power and abilities of God. In

January 1, 2016. The ball dropped at midnight like it does every year, and people
around the world cheered on the coming of the new year. For most, a new year
equals new opportunities, improvement, and overall, hopes for a better year than the
previous one. I was one of the people that thought this on that particular New Years.
2015hadn t been the greatest year of my life, so that meant 2016 would have to be
better. As much as I wanted that and wished it were true, it wasn t at all. On New Year
s Day 2016, my grandpa was admitted into the hospital, and the months following
were a roller coaster of highs and lows that made 2016 an unforgettable year for
many not so great reasons. During the summer of 2015, my Grandpa Mert was
diagnosed with prostate cancer. This particular type of cancer is usually very
treatable and is something you just live with, so it didn t worry our family too
much. Toward the end of the year, however, things started changing. On New Years
Day, my grandpa was admitted to the hospital for the flu, and the flu turned into
pneumonia, and we found out later it was all because of his cancer. He had tried
one round of chemotherapy, but the treatment made his body so weak that it couldn
t fight off other viruses, like the flu and pneumonia. He ended up staying in the
hospital on and off (mostly on) for just over a month, and even had to spend his 75th
