The Endless Steppe Essay
Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do. (Johann von Goethe) The
Endless Steppe by Esther Hautzig is a novel about a family s determination to survive. In the novel it
tells of how determination, the human ability to adopt, and happiness can hold a family together and
help them even preserver over all odds. In addition, The Endless Steppe tells of Reisa, Ryia, and
Esther tales of how they overcame these ordeals and survived in Siberia in their own way. The theme
of this book is that the human capacity to adapt to and find happiness in the most difficult
circumstances. Each character in the novel shows this in their way. For instance, their family is
randomly taken from their home and forced to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second person that illustrated the theme of the book was Esther s mother Raya. Raya showed this
by always keeping a positive attitude, which raises the spirits around her. For instance, in the novel her
husband went off to war, his entire battalion was wiped out and everyone had given up hope of him
returning except for her. She kept saying, Be sure to get some farmer s cheese, the kind he adores. Her
positive attitude paid off in the end after everyone thought she was grief ridden she proved them
wrong when he returned. In addition, her positive attitude did pay off again when he husband was
thought to be lost in a when he did not return for work. Everyone was starting to be worried and lose
hope but she continued to hope and believe and tell the others to and he returned again. That is how
Raya illustrated the theme of the book by maintaining her positive attitude and encouraging others
around her with it. The third person that illustrated the theme of the book was Esther. Esther showed
the theme of the book by the ability to accept change and her love for her family, which held them
together. For instance, when she was forced for her home on the train she was scared and she did not
know what the future held for her but she pursued on. She even did not even complain in situations
that other people would. In addition, she also had to endure not having her own space, new
roommates, even different schools, and making new friend. However, even through all

Gladitorial Games In Roman Culture
The romans attitude towards sport was diffent than that of the anicent Greeks. For the Greeks, sport
was a way for citizens to demonstrate athleticism, and prowess. For the roman empire, sport,
particularly Gladitorial games was a way to deisplay power and influence within the local community.
They indulged in violence and bloodlust presupposing that human life has always been regarded
highly that humanitarian ideals have always been the norm. Gladiatorial combats have always been
surrounded with the miasmas of death (Alison, Futrell 2001, 3.). This was not due to the bloodshed
involved, but to the origin in the ceremonies of public funerals. The Romans adopted the custom of
the human sacrifice by killing prisoners on the graves of warriors. Roman religion revolved around the

This was done by providing a blood offering at the dead person s funeral to appease the gods and
ensure a rite of passage into the afterlife. Gladiator games shows us of how barbaric the Roman
practice was and what its existence said about the roman society. The values and virtues of gladitorial
combat were also important as a means of social control. During the Roman revolution, the games lost
a considerable degree of religious significance and began to assume increasing social and political
importance. The arena contained the force inherent in a totalitarian system, replicating the brutality of
empire in a controlled environment 3Alison, Futrell. Blood in the arena: The spectacle of Roman
power. University of Texas Press, 2001, 6. As the value of the games became more apparent,
competition arose between public figures by trying to woo or impress the people through spectacles.
During the Republic when gladiatorial games were held as commemorations of the dead, the
sponsoring families who were spectacular enough to impress the people would be greatly benefited in
the way that their social status would increase by bringing their name to the voting

Ted Cruz Cons
Should the President of the United States have to be born on United States soil?
A controversial debate is roaring across the nation in Decision 2016, but it is not the politics of the
candidates, it s the legitimacy of their candidacy. The Constitution, America s rulebook, states that, No
person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United State, at the time of the adoption of this
Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that
office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty five years, and been fourteen Years a resident

Many people have different theories. As mentioned earlier, this clause in the Constitution is to protect
the United States from influence from outside countries. What this means is that a group can form a
conspiracy in which they plan to become the POTUS (President of the United States) and other major
parts in government to keep the conspirators in power. This could lead to tyranny in the nation and
utterly destroying what America stands for, Democracy. There are, however, good things that can
come out of the removal of the Natural Born Citizen Clause. These foreign leaders could bring in new
ideas and philosophies. This would be beneficial, but would you take the risk of being ruled by
another country? I don t think you

Calculus C Are Largely Defined By Derivatives Of Vector...
The major topics explored in Calculus C are largely defined by derivatives of vector valued and
parametrically defined functions, integration by partial fractions, improper integrals, series
convergence (Taylor and Maclaurin), L Hopitals Rule, and numerous applications. All of the following
topics require a solid foundation in not only Calculus A but also Calculus B.
Vector valued functions include mathematical functions of one or more variables whose range is
defined as a set of both multidimensional vectors and infinite dimensional vectors. Much of this was
expanded on by Newton and Descartes during the Enlightenment in Europe. Newton largely defined
calculus in his book Principia Mathematica whereas Descartes was the founder of analytic ... Show

The derivative of a three dimensional vector function can be differentiated by using standard
differentiating rules, taught in a standard Calculus A course, as it breaks up the components in the
Cartesian coordinate system.
Integration by partial fractions, or in other words commonly known as the partial derivative of a
vector function, is defined with a commonly used variable a, with respect to the frequently used scalar
variable q. A sub I is the scalar component of a in the direction of e sub i. Sometimes, it is also called
the direction cosine of a and e sub i, but it is also frequently known in most math classes as the dot
product. The vectors e1,e2,e3 form what is known as an orthonormal basis that is commonly fixed in
the reference frame in which the derivative of the partial is being taken. This was also further
expanded on by Newton in the 17th century in his famous book Principia Mathematica and he often
used the notation from Gottfried Leibniz, another 17th century mathematician.
Defined by Isaac Newton and Descartes, in calculus C, another frequently taught topic is what is
known as an improper integral. It is defined as the limit of a definite integral as an endpoint of the
interval or intervals of integration approach either a specified definite real number or infinity or even
in some cases negative infinity. In other cases both endpoints approach limits. Such an integral is often
written symbolically just like a standard definite integral,

Essay on Huntington’s Disease
Near the end of the short arm of chromosome four, there exists a gene which can cause an individual
to experience three completely different lives. If the gene is expressed normally, one will never know,
as it will not cause the person any harm. However, if the gene simply does not exist, the individual
will be born with Wolf Hirschorn Syndrome, a devastating illness which causes disfigured facial
features and mental retardation. (Ridley, 55) Victims of this syndrome rarely live past the age of
seven. The last and most interesting situation occurs when this gene becomes mutated. In this case, the
individual will suffer from Huntington s Chorea, a debilitating neurological disease which will not
show its effects until mid life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those afflicted with Huntington s Disease generally begin to exhibit problems with their control of
bodily movements, intellectual functioning and emotion(s) (Fact Sheet: Huntington s Disease). The
disease generally begins to affect the individual around the age of fifty, though it can occur much
earlier. The victim will usually suffer for ten to twenty five years before succumbing to complications
of the illness, generally heart failure or aspiration pneumonia (Fact Sheet: Huntington s Disease).
The area of the Huntington Gene which is known to mutate contains only one word each consisting of
three letters as Ridley explains (55). The repetition of the bases C A G throughout the gene can occur
anywhere from once to over one hundred times. The number of repetitions determines whether or not
an individual sees the effects of the disease and at what age the symptoms begin. The mutated form of
the gene arises when an excessive number of C A G repetitions occur. The average number of repeats
for a normal Huntington Gene is between ten and fifteen (Ridley, 55). A study presented by Dr.
Kathleen Shannon at the General Meeting of the Illinois Chapter of the Huntington s Disease Society
of America on March 7, 1997 concluded that there are specific numerical cut offs for having

Hip Hop History
Hip hop or hip hop is a subculture and art movement developed in South Bronx in New York City
during the late 1970s.[1][2][3][4][5] While people unfamiliar with Hip Hop culture often use the
expression hip hop to refer exclusively to hip hop music (also called rap ),[6] Hip Hop is characterized
by nine distinct elements or expressive realms, of which Hip Hop music is only four elements
(rapping, djaying, beatboxing and breaking). Afrika Bambaataa of the Hip Hop collective Zulu Nation
outlined the pillars of Hip Hip culture, coining the terms: rapping (also called MCing or emceeing), a
rhythmic vocal rhyming style (orality); DJing (and turntablism), which is making music with record
players and DJ mixers (aural/sound and music creation); ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Members of the scene plugged in the amplifiers for their instruments and PA speakers into the
lampposts on 163rd Street and Prospect Avenue and used their live music events to break down racial
barriers between African Americans, Puerto Ricans, Whites and other ethnic groups. Jamaican
immigrant DJ Kool Herc also played a key role in developing Hip Hop music. At 1520 Sedgwick
Avenue, Herc mixed samples of existing records and deejayed percussion breaks , mixing this music
with his own Jamaican style toasting (a style of chanting and boastful talking over a microphone) to
rev up the crowd and dancers. Kool Herc is credited as the father of Hip Hop for developing the key
DJ techniques that, along with rapping, founded the hip hop music style by creating rhythmic beats by
looping breaks (small portions of songs emphasizing a percussive pattern) on two turntables. This was
later accompanied by rapping or MCing , a rhythmic style of chanting or speaking poetry/lyrics, and
beatboxing, a percussive vocal technique used to create beats to go along with an MC or rappers

accompanied by popping, locking and other dance moves, which was done to the accompaniment of
hip hop songs played on boom boxes and particular styles of hip hop dress and hair also

Nwoye sense of identity was challenged with the introduction of Western ideas into the Ibo culture.
Nwoye started out in in the novel as a son of the mighty okonkwo, but the culture collision of the
british colonists and ibo people affected nwoye to the point of that he betrayed his family. The reason
for nwoye change in his sense of identity included his culture, religion and most important in all
family. He did this for what he believed in not for what is right. The first reason is culture sense of
identity was challenged the Western ideas was because nwoye did not like his culture he wanted to be

Chemical Formula Review
Chemical Formulas Review: Nomenclature and Formula Writing
Naming Simple Compounds
There are four naming systems you should familiarize yourself with to succeed on the SAT II
Chemistry exam. The trick is recognizing which naming system to use. Here are the guidelines: * If
the compound starts with H, it is an acid. Use the naming acids rules. * If the compound starts with C
and contains quite a few H s and perhaps some O s, it is organic. Use the naming organic compounds
rules. * If the compound starts with a metal, it is most likely ionic. Use the naming binary ionic
compounds rules. * If the compound starts with a nonmetal other than H or C, use the naming binary
molecular compounds rules.
It is also essential that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
H2SO3 is sulfurous acid.
Acids have enough H+ added to the anion to make the compound neutral. Supply either the acid s
name or its formula to complete the table below: Acid formula | Acid name | HCl | | | Hypochlorous
acid | | Chlorous acid | | Chloric acid | | Hyperchloric acid (or perchloric acid) | HNO3 | | | Hydrobromic
acid | H3PO4 | | H3PO3 | | | Hydrocyanic acid | HC2H3O2 | | | Carbonic acid | | Hydroiodic acid | HF | |
Naming Organic Compounds
How do you know it s organic? The formula will start with a C followed by H s. Most of the organic
carbons you will encounter will be either hydrocarbons or alcohols, and luckily for you, these are the
simplest of all to name. Learn the list of prefixes in the table following this section: they correspond to
the number of carbons present in the compound. The following silly statement will help you
remember the order of the first four prefixes since they are not ones you are familiar with: Me eat
peanut butter. This corresponds to meth , eth , prop , and but , which correspond to one, two, three,
and four carbons, respectively.
Now that we have a stem, we need an ending. There are three common hydrocarbon endings; the
ending changes depending on the structure of the molecule: * ane = alkane (all single bonds and
saturated); CnH2n+2; saturated: it contains the maximum number of H s * ene = alkene (contains
double bond, unsaturated); CnH2n *

Urbanization In The Late Nineteenth Century
Urbanization in the United States in the late nineteenth century resulted from a number of factors, in
particular the rise of commercial activity following the Civil War and the industrialization of the
period. During that post bellum period, cities grew along with a rising population of those residing in
the cities. Although those two factors might, at first, appear to be the same, they are, in fact, different.
In one early study from immediately after the period (Jefferson, 1915), scholars observed that
American cities grew by about 15 million people in the two decades before 1900. Immigration from
other countries certainly featured significantly in that growth, but the industrial revolution also played
a significant role (Schultz, 2013,

Fate In Joseph Campbell s The Alchemist
Many people live their lives believing that their lives are driven by fate; that their hopes and dreams
ultimately have no impact on how their lives will turn out. This, however, does not hold true when one
considers the paths taken by those who follow their own dreams and desires. When one examines the
lives of people and characters who follow their dreams, one can realize that life is not guided by fate,
but by the desires of one s heart. In The Alchemist, Santiago s life is guided by his dreams and desires,
not his fate. In the beginning of the novel, Santiago was studying to be a priest, but he forgoes his
education in order to follow his dream of traveling the world. Though many as a foolish decision
would have seen this, as priests were well respected and shepherds were not, Santiago does as he
desires, not what he is told will be the most advantageous. Throughout his travels, Santiago
encounters many people who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though he spends a relatively short amount of time discussing fate, the words spoken by Campbell
speak volumes. As he tells Bill Moyers, The influence of the dominant divinity in my mind will be
what determines my decision (Campbell 166). Though this statement does not explicitly mention fate,
its presence in this quote can be inferred. By stressing the importance of divine power s influence over
one s mind, Campbell in rejecting the notion of fate, for if fate were present the dominant divinity
would not be necessary. Additionally, by stressing the importance of following your bliss throughout
the text, Campbell stresses the importance of following one s dreams rather than prescribing to the
notion of fate. Throughout The Power of Myth, Campbell s disregard of fate and attention to dreams
shows one that they should follow the path of their heart rather than believing their path has been
chosen for

acct closing process
According to our textbook the closing process serves a dual purpose 1. The temporary accounts
(revenues, expenses, gains and losses) are reduced to zero balances, ready to measure activity in the
upcoming accounting period, and 2. These temporary accounts are closed (transferred) to retained
earnings to reflect changes that have occurred during that accounting period. (Spiceland p. 79). There
are three times during an accounting period when a company should perform a closing process, daily,
monthly and yearly. This memo will discuss the month end closing process, the year end closing

numbers used to prepare the financial statements are able to be easily accessible and determined

Challenges Associated With Health Care Regulations And The...
Emerging Trends With increasing health care regulations and the need for greater value in health care,
we are starting to see several new trends in the industry. These trends will require health care
organizations to become highly adaptable to the changing environment. Leaders in these organizations
will also need to set the example of ethical behavior and also provide motivation so that their staff can
be more supportive and better equipped to embrace change. Due to longer life expectancy in today s
society, we have been making the shift from an acute care model to treating an aging population with
chronic conditions (Burns, Bradley, Weiner, 2012, p. 401). Now, more than ever, there is a greater
focus on preventative wellness initiatives within organizations. Many employers are implementing
wellness tools within their health care plans which may include incentives for the employees to
participate. Some wellness programs include having employees obtain biometric screenings or
completing health risk assessments. If the employees meet the requirements of the wellness programs,
they are usually provided with incentives such as a smaller deductible or a lower cost share for their
monthly premiums. With all of the new benefits and provisions under health care reform, consumers
are becoming increasingly knowledgeable about their health benefits. In addition, there have been
many technological advances in health care through the years, creating a wealth of information

MAGMA CONTAMINATION AND SULFIDE IMMISCIBILITY OF THE METEORIC IMPACT
ZONE IN THE SUDBURY NI CU DEPOSITS: ONTARIO, CANADA
WILLIAMS, Jane B. (University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, willijan@uwec.edu)
Sudbury, Canada is the location of a world class Ni Cu deposit phenomena. Numerous studies have
produced an explanation for the complex evolution of its deposition and enrichment thanks to the
impaction of a meteorite 1.85 million years ago. The impact of the meteorite is thought to have caused
fracturing that led to the generation of magma from deep in the crust that helped in later filling the
crater and producing the igneous complex (Faggart et. al., 1985). The igneous complex (Figure 1a) has
an elongated shape (60 km long and 27 km wide) with circular deposits surrounding it similar to a
bulls eye. Evidence of the meteoric impact includes brecciation located in the center of the basin
(Onaping Formation), deformation of the margin of the intrusive complex (Huronian Group), shatter
cones, and pseudotachylite. The meteor is thought to have flash melted the crust which proceeded to
differentiate into a granophyre and a leuconorite to norite composition. The granophyre makes up 60%
of the complex and the leuconorite and norite make up the remaining 40% (Figure 1b)(Barnes et. al.,
2005). About 50% of the ore is found in the sublayer norite and the breccia that is associated with the
norite. This ore is mainly disseminated sulphides. The massive sulphides are located in the center

A Brief Note On Confirmed Cerebrovascular Accident ( Cva )
To assess this patient who has a confirmed cerebrovascular accident (CVA) due to right middle
cerebral artery occlusion, a formal measure that can be utilized is the Ross Information Processing
Assessment Geriatric, Second Edition (RIPA G:2). The RIPA G:2 is used to assess the geriatric
population and can classify, define, and measure their cognitive linguistic deficits (Fogle Ross Swain,
2012). The RIPA G:2 is a valid assessment measure due to its high reliability and validity (Fogle Ross

temporal orientation, spatial orientation, recalling general information, situational knowledge,
categorical vocabulary, and listening comprehension (Fogle Ross Swain, 2012).
The connectionist model describes the different areas of the brain and how they process particular

ccount and send damaging messages, pretending to be someone else online to hurt another person.
Sexting, a circulating sexually suggestive pictures or messages, is reported that one in five teens have
posted or sent sexually suggestive or nude pictures of themselves to others ( Cyber Bullying Statistics
). Taking unflattering pictures of a person and spreading them through cell phones or the internet. A
statistic from the Harford County states that one in ten teens have had embarrassing or damaging
pictures taken of themselves without their permission ( Cyber Bullying Statistics ). On Twitter, a
social networking site, subtweeting is a new form of bullying. Subtweeting is the act of post a rude
comment without the name of the person it is about (Hinduja). Usually the person who posted the
tweet does not have the guts to tag the other person or say it to them in person. For example, a girl and
a boy broke up and the boy went to twitter to express his feelings. He would post something emotional
for the whole twitter world to see. In reality this, boy was talking about his old girlfriend and did not
have the guts to say it straight to her.
All age groups and genders are exposed to cyberbullying because of social media being available to
all people. The age group that cyberbullying affects the most is teenagers. Teens are more likely to be
involved with cyberbullying because adults have more to jeopardize. If adults would post
unprofessional comments about their bosses online, the outcome would be getting fired. Adults have a
better understanding of what correct behavior online looks like. Correct behavior online is referred to
netiquette, or internet etiquette. Netiquette lists have the same behaviors people are to use in real life.
The list includes politeness, courtesy, and respect. Rude behavior and inappropriate language is
discouraged (Arazoza). Teenagers behavior online can also jeopardize their future. Over eighty
percent of teens use a cell phone regularly, so that means that it is the most popular form of
technology and an easy way to cyberbully ( 11 ). Teens are less aware of the consequences of posting
online. Teachers and parents can be informed about the actions online and they can later judge that

Challenges In Alice Walker s The Color Purple
Oftentimes in life people go through challenges they must face. This is seen in Alice Walker s The
Color Purple, which is a historical novel that takes place in Georgia during the Early 20th Century. In
this text, Celie a young black girl who is abused as a child and married to a man transforms into a
strong women after facing her challenges; Nelie, her sister who was also abused with Celie, ran away
when Celie got married. Having no place to go she ends up with a man and his wife, Samuel and
Corrine who are part of a group called missionaries, of American and African Missionary Society.
Multiple characters face challenges and transform as a result.
For example, Miss Celie at a young age is affected by a challenge that she faces and transforms to get
past her obstacle. As a child she gets raped by her father so she developed a fear of men. Celie winked
at a boy in her church and gets beat by her father; she insist that she didn t wink at him. She says, I
don t even look at mens... I look at women, tho, cause I m not scared of them (5 Walker). Since Celie
has negative experiences with men she is only used to the positive experience with her sister, so she
chooses to neglect men. Even after stating this she still gets beat. Celie faces the challenge of having
and Abusive father who doesn t have respect for her. By not paying attention to what frightens her and
stays where she is hloved which is with women, mainly her sister. This transformation is the result of
the challenges she faced.
Similarly, Sofia, who is married to Harpo starts to feel that her marriage is starting to change she
transforms so she can feel safe and happy. Harpo wants Sofia to listen and do as he says, but Sophia
didn t grow up to obey men; so they get into intense arguments and fights. When Sophia is talking to
Miss Celie she says: I don t like to go to bed with him no more... Now I feels tired all the time. No
Interest (66 Walker). Sophia doesn t find Interest in her marriage because of how Harpo treats her. The
challenge she is facing is a husband doesn t have respect for her and neglects the fact that Sophia is a
strong willed woman. Because of this she lost her feelings for him so she separates herself from him

My Experience With Technology
My Experience with Technology I am going to tell you some my experiences with technology from
my past and how it will lead to my future. One of my experiences includes taking a Video Cassette
Recorder (VCR) apart when I was younger. Another is when I built my first computer and the
consequences that followed when I did that. So why did I take VCR player apart when I was younger?
The reason is that I was curious, like boys are at that age, and I wanted to know how the VCR player
worked. Therefore, I did what any other 10 year old boys would do in my shoes, I found a
screwdriver, and I started taking apart the player. Taking it apart was easy, but putting it back together
proved to be a little more difficult than I had originally thought it would be. I tried hard to put it back
together, unfortunately, I didn t to have the required skills at the time to reassemble the VCR so in the
trash it went. This VCR was not the only thing to be taken apart and not reassembled. I must have
taken apart a least half of a dozens of them in addition to a DVD player or two. I took apart pretty
much anything that was not bolted to the floor. To be fair, most of them were broken and were junk
anyways, so me taking them apart didn t mean I was out of control or anything. My parents saw it was
a learning experience. My grandfather, on the other hand, told me when I was not allowed to touch
any electronic devices in his house with a screwdriver, which I obeyed, most of the time.

Characteristics Of The Human Auditory System
The human auditory system is one of the most complex and remarkable systems of the human body.
Without all components working in a harmonious manner, a person can easily become alienated from
society. There are four key areas that one needs to understand in order to comprehend how an
individual is able to hear. They include the outer, middle, and inner ear as well as the central auditory
nervous system. The collaboration of all of these components allow humans to hear sound. One of the
most important concepts to understand, before delving into the anatomy of the human ear, is what
exactly individuals are receiving as the signal that is commonly referred to as sound. Although there
are many definitions for sound, it can be easily understood as a disturbance in an elastic medium that
propagates through the medium in a longitudinal motion (Darrow 2017). This disturbance occurs in
the form of vibrations. The three characteristics of a sound include intensity, frequency, and duration,
which all play an integral part in how an individual interprets a sound. The first area that a sound
arrives at in its journey to be perceived is the outer ear. At this point, sound is being transmitted in
terms of acoustic energy. The outer ear consists of two major parts, the pinna and the ear canal. The
pinna serves as a funnel, where several of its cavities act as sound enhancing mechanisms. The ear
canal acts as a quarter length resonator. What this means is that it enhances

A Study On Restaurant Patrons
Restaurant Patrons
The restaurant patron were comprise of Asian, White, light skin Black, and myself Hispanic.
Attendees were mostly in their 20 s with the exception of couple of older people. All of them seemed
people of the working class or recently out of college. There was an equal ratio of females to males as
most of the costumers came in pairs. Everybody seemed to be in good health as the patrons were
young. Emotional appearance seemed normal, just taking their time to relax and enjoy each other s
company.
Their postures were made up of casual leaning. In towards the table, towards the people they were
talking to or to the wall. There was approximately 30 people in the restaurant. They were dress
casually, not baggy, or sports clothes, but the type of that you wear to go out. People mainly focused
on their conversations before and after the meal. Small chatter was still accompanied their eating.
Some eat multiple dishes, including appetizer and main course, main course with dessert, or all three,
others just one meal. Some order drinks with their meal, others just drink the water that was given to
them at the beginning.
There was some differences. Size of groups and race varied. There was many people in pairs
especially white people. The biggest group of people were male Asian. Multiple race where
represented but whites were the majority. Only one family that I saw. Small children were not present.
It was not necessarily a place where a family big or small would go

Jay Gatsby Selfish
F. Scott Fitzgerald once said, There are all types of love in this world but never the same love twice .
This quote alone was directed to Mr. Jay Gatsby, from the famous book, The Great Gatsby. This book
was written in the 1920 s, with the narration of Nick Carraway, who met Jay Gatsby and became fairly
close to him. Nick lived in East Egg neighboring Mr. Jay Gatsby. Living across the bay in West Egg
was, Daisy and Tom Buchanan. Nick is learning how to be non judgemental toward others, however,
with whom he gets along with, they too were privileged. But not Jay Gatsby. In The Great Gatsby, by
F. Scott Fitzgerald, Jay Gatsby is known for being great because he is optimistic and ambitious.

A Better Safer Alternative Treatment
The word cancer strikes fear into the hearts of many people and their loved ones. Millions of people
are diagnosed every year and they put their full trust into their doctors to make the best decisions and
offer the most effective treatment. However people tend to be more frightened of the treatment itself
because traditional cancer therapies produce scary symptoms such as vomiting, pain, and hair loss.
The treatments leave patients feeling extremely weak and fatigued. Most patients believe that these
drug treatments are the best and only option to cure them. There is a better safer alternative treatment
that the FDA might be hiding from the public. This alternative treatment is called amygdalin although
it is also known under the term the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this way the cancer is killed. The cyanide is only released when it comes into contact with a cancer
cell making it safe to the human body. On the opposing side people claim that the cyanide in
amygdalin is dangerous and unsuccessful in treating and curing cancer. However the amount in the
seeds is so small that it would not produce any harm and the fact that it is enclosed makes it safe. The
medical drug treatments are far more dangerous and have the ability to kill a person in certain doses.
According to the PLOS ONE medical journal article Amygdalin Blocks Bladder Cancer cell Growth
In Vitro by Diminishing Cyclin A and cdk2 even though people opposed to amygdalin claim that the
cyanide content in the seed is not effective, unsafe, and toxic none of these claims have been not been
observed in any of the treated patients. (page 1 paragraph 4.) According to their study amygdalin
caused a complete cure in 40.5% of people and relieved symptoms in 22.9% of people, from the 368
people treated. This means that a large number of people were cured something a medical treatment
cannot do. Medical drugs only put people into a cancer free state called remission. This remission
period can last 5 years or 10 years before the disease returns. Thus it is a band aid fix to the problem.
And to make matters worse chemotherapy drugs and radiation only provide relief in late stages of
cancer and do not provide prolonged life in most cases. Amygdalin found in natural seeds is

How To Write A Picnic At Hanging Rock Essay
PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK PRACTICE ESSAY
The novel Picnic at Hanging Rock written by Joan Lindsay in 1967 is set in Australia and tells the
story of a class of female students who attend an exclusive private girls boarding school called
Appleyard College. In 1900, most of the students and staff go on an excursion to the isolated Hanging
Rock where three girls and a teacher inexplicably vanish after climbing the rock on a Valentine s Day
picnic. The text explores the outlying effects the disappearances have on the school and local
community as the authorities conduct an exhaustive search for the missing four. Picnic at Hanging
Rock has been adapted across numerous mediums and is most renowned in the 1975 film adaptation
by director Peter Weir. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Peter Weir s film adaptation of the novel explores many themes and ideas of the original text;
however, through various cinematic techniques, he is able to enhance and bring to life aspects of the
novel such as the rock and the foreign Australian landscape, the innocence of the girls and the
claustrophobic atmosphere of the college, and finally, the terrible effects of the girl s disappearance on
those left behind.
Through the incorporation of soundtrack and camera angles, Weir enhances the rock and Australian
bush by transforming these two aspects of the novel into an even darker and sinister presence which
looms over the individuals in the film. Within Lindsay s novel, the rock is mentioned on several
occasions and is referred to have soaring peaks and a powerful presence which gives readers the idea
that it is a potentially dangerous location. However, in the film, the rock is portrayed like a character
in its own right and is purposely made to be more frightening. The haunting pan pipes are played in
the background when the camera pans on the rock to depict the implacable monoliths as a menacing
creature which lures the girls. Pan was the god who seduced and kidnapped young nymphs and

Harriet Jacobs And Frederick Douglas
The narratives of Harriet Jacobs and Frederick Douglas were nothing short of powerful as their unique
resilience reflected a gruesome upbringing that would then influence audiences everywhere.
Immediately the reader is introduced to the gendered distinctions in narratives as Douglas has letters
and statements of prominent men reinforce the validity of his work while Jacobs is forced to create a
pleading tone for acknowledgement of her experience as a female slave. Although slavery was an
excruciating experience that unjustly plagued millions of African Americans, gender roles and
constructs allowed for distinct offenses that forced women to experience unique abuse relative to their
male counterparts. The narratives of Harriet Jacobs and Frederick Douglas reinforced the trials of
slavery with examples of educational hardship, physical trauma and differing aspirations of freedom.
These factors and a few others such as motherhood and masculinity influenced their legacy in context
of slavery as a gendered experience.
The distinct introduction to each of their lives not only set an impression for the reader but also serves
as a precursor to the different aspirations and dreams of escape that Jacobs and Douglas distinctly had.
Beginning with Jacobs her narrative was written around her scarce time when she was not tending to
household duties and avoiding the unclean images her master regularly imposed on her. Jacobs did not
have informal education as frequent as Douglass and

627 Word Short Story
627 Words I was walking down the hallway when it happened... Last year wasn t the greatest time of
my life. My parents found something wrong with me that I had tried so hard to hide. At school, I
would feel it coming and left the classroom to go to the bathroom and let it pass. It got up to about
three times a week. I remember the pain, the isolation, the fear, the feeling that I was going crazy and
that I was going to die. I never knew why I couldn t just be like everyone else, why the littlest things
lit a fuse to a bomb within me. Over and over again. Why me? But it all stopped by the end of May,
and nothing happened the entire Summer. August came, and I entered a new school as a freshman.

Least I could do to thank you... Thanks, by the way. I took the paper from him and began to read. Oh,
it s a short story. My first thought was Oh, he shouldn t have a comma there, but I decided to keep
reading and tell him afterwards. I was about halfway through the story when I realized that the
protagonist described the thoughts that ran through my mind every day, and water began to flood my
eyes. I began to sob as I continued to scan the most relatable words I had ever read. I dropped my

The Who Counterculture
The British invasion was responsible for internationalizing rock and roll, and has managed to
influence musical artists to this day. This musical movement of the mid 1960 s was composed of
British groups combining the rebellious tone and image of American music, with their own British

Morality In The Lottery
When thinking of traditions, the first few that come to mind are putting up the Christmas tree, going to
the fair, and many others. Traditions intertwine between families and others as well, and even
nationwide. However, there are some traditions that we are not able to fathom. For example, in The
Lottery , there is a lottery drawn every year for a good crop season. During this tradition, one person
from the community is stoned to death as a sacrifice. Why don t people question traditions like this?
People who grow up in certain communities do things a little different than their neighboring towns,
because it is what they have known their entire life. To them, it is normal . Consistency is like a drug
due to the fact that people do not always adapt well. People often fixate on repeated circumstances and
the outcome can be detrimental. Repeating the lottery every year in their town is quite out of the
morality I have, however, it is the tradition they all are familiar with. Shockingly enough, the world
continuously changes while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

easy to follow the norm of a tradition because of the lifestyle you were shown as a kid. Watching the
fireworks on the fourth of July, participating in the hunting of Easter eggs, and also preparing
Thanksgiving dinner never brought a question to my mind such as, Why am I doing this? . As a child
you are dependent on your parents and there is usually no question as to why they are doing the things
they do each year just like those who participated in the stoning. Some of the people who threw stones
were little boys and girls who thought this incidence was okay because it was a tradition. The town

Female Harassment In The Military Essay
Women in the U.S. military have always had a tough row to hoe ; those women who literally broke
ground, opened doors, and made the choice of a military career easier for those who followed, were
the beginning. Today the fight is continuing. Inequality and sexual harassment towards women
continues to persist, because the military¡¦s leadership when faced with the option of ill repute or
justice ignores justice.
Women deserve fair treatment, a non hostile environment, and a chance to further their careers on an
equal footing with man. The fact that harassment, discrimination, and sexual assaults are still
occurring in our esteemed military in such numbers is appalling. The military¡¦s overall treatment, lack
of respect in handling sexual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
¡§By precluding women from the core functions of the military, they define women as marginal
service members, thereby fostering sexual harassment [and discrimination]¡¨(Tailhook Incident 92).
In 1994, the annual Navy wide Personnel Survey included questions on women¡¦s role for the first
time. Some 65 percent of officers and almost 50 percent of enlisted respondents said they did not think
women were fully accepted in combat roles. While approximately 80 percent said harassment was not
tolerated at their command, almost half of all respondents disagreed that everyone is treated equally in
promotions and advancements.
Some of this is based on the presumed physical and psychological characteristics of women, which
may interfere with their performances in combat rich situations. For example: the physical strength of
women. People believe that women are not strong enough to lift and carry heavy equipment or
wounded fellow soldiers and that they lack endurance to perform these tasks over a lengthened period.
In addition, there is the idea that women cannot perform strenuous tasks quickly, like loading heavy
shells into a weapon. Moreover, combat is not for the weak and slow. Although allowing women in
combat remains a top priority, women are now serving in virtually every other occupational capacity
in all four branches of the

Retelling Transmissions And The Classical Myth

refers to a version of a myth transmission whereby something is either subtracted or added to the
original version of the myth. There is a difference between a retelling and a version. A retelling is a
completely different story with factors such as characters, themes, and lessons being different from
those in the original myth. Retelling transmissions are usually done with much consideration to the
audience. Creative artists have over the years used classical myths to come up with new stories for
films that match contemporary context. This has usually been able to help the audience of retellings to

  • 2. The Endless Steppe Essay Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do. (Johann von Goethe) The Endless Steppe by Esther Hautzig is a novel about a family s determination to survive. In the novel it tells of how determination, the human ability to adopt, and happiness can hold a family together and help them even preserver over all odds. In addition, The Endless Steppe tells of Reisa, Ryia, and Esther tales of how they overcame these ordeals and survived in Siberia in their own way. The theme of this book is that the human capacity to adapt to and find happiness in the most difficult circumstances. Each character in the novel shows this in their way. For instance, their family is randomly taken from their home and forced to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second person that illustrated the theme of the book was Esther s mother Raya. Raya showed this by always keeping a positive attitude, which raises the spirits around her. For instance, in the novel her husband went off to war, his entire battalion was wiped out and everyone had given up hope of him returning except for her. She kept saying, Be sure to get some farmer s cheese, the kind he adores. Her positive attitude paid off in the end after everyone thought she was grief ridden she proved them wrong when he returned. In addition, her positive attitude did pay off again when he husband was thought to be lost in a when he did not return for work. Everyone was starting to be worried and lose hope but she continued to hope and believe and tell the others to and he returned again. That is how Raya illustrated the theme of the book by maintaining her positive attitude and encouraging others around her with it. The third person that illustrated the theme of the book was Esther. Esther showed the theme of the book by the ability to accept change and her love for her family, which held them together. For instance, when she was forced for her home on the train she was scared and she did not know what the future held for her but she pursued on. She even did not even complain in situations that other people would. In addition, she also had to endure not having her own space, new roommates, even different schools, and making new friend. • 3. Gladitorial Games In Roman Culture The romans attitude towards sport was diffent than that of the anicent Greeks. For the Greeks, sport was a way for citizens to demonstrate athleticism, and prowess. For the roman empire, sport, particularly Gladitorial games was a way to deisplay power and influence within the local community. They indulged in violence and bloodlust presupposing that human life has always been regarded highly that humanitarian ideals have always been the norm. Gladiatorial combats have always been surrounded with the miasmas of death (Alison, Futrell 2001, 3.). This was not due to the bloodshed involved, but to the origin in the ceremonies of public funerals. The Romans adopted the custom of the human sacrifice by killing prisoners on the graves of warriors. Roman religion revolved around the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was done by providing a blood offering at the dead person s funeral to appease the gods and ensure a rite of passage into the afterlife. Gladiator games shows us of how barbaric the Roman practice was and what its existence said about the roman society. The values and virtues of gladitorial combat were also important as a means of social control. During the Roman revolution, the games lost a considerable degree of religious significance and began to assume increasing social and political importance. The arena contained the force inherent in a totalitarian system, replicating the brutality of empire in a controlled environment 3Alison, Futrell. Blood in the arena: The spectacle of Roman power. University of Texas Press, 2001, 6. As the value of the games became more apparent, competition arose between public figures by trying to woo or impress the people through spectacles. During the Republic when gladiatorial games were held as commemorations of the dead, the sponsoring families who were spectacular enough to impress the people would be greatly benefited in the way that their social status would increase by bringing their name to the voting ... A controversial debate is roaring across the nation in Decision 2016, but it is not the politics of the candidates, it s the legitimacy of their candidacy. The Constitution, America s rulebook, states that, No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United State, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty five years, and been fourteen Years a resident within the United States, (Legal Information Institute). As mentioned earlier, this clause in the Constitution is to protect the United States from influence from outside countries. What this means is that a group can form a conspiracy in which they plan to become the POTUS (President of the United States) and other major parts in government to keep the conspirators in power. This could lead to tyranny in the nation and utterly destroying what America stands for, Democracy. There are, however, good things that can come out of the removal of the Natural Born Citizen Clause. These foreign leaders could bring in new ideas and philosophies. • 5. Calculus C Are Largely Defined By Derivatives Of Vector... The major topics explored in Calculus C are largely defined by derivatives of vector valued and parametrically defined functions, integration by partial fractions, improper integrals, series convergence (Taylor and Maclaurin), L Hopitals Rule, and numerous applications. All of the following topics require a solid foundation in not only Calculus A but also Calculus B. Vector valued functions include mathematical functions of one or more variables whose range is defined as a set of both multidimensional vectors and infinite dimensional vectors. Much of this was expanded on by Newton and Descartes during the Enlightenment in Europe. Newton largely defined calculus in his book Principia Mathematica whereas Descartes was the founder of analytic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The derivative of a three dimensional vector function can be differentiated by using standard differentiating rules, taught in a standard Calculus A course, as it breaks up the components in the Cartesian coordinate system. Integration by partial fractions, or in other words commonly known as the partial derivative of a vector function, is defined with a commonly used variable a, with respect to the frequently used scalar variable q. A sub I is the scalar component of a in the direction of e sub i. Sometimes, it is also called the direction cosine of a and e sub i, but it is also frequently known in most math classes as the dot product. The vectors e1,e2,e3 form what is known as an orthonormal basis that is commonly fixed in the reference frame in which the derivative of the partial is being taken. This was also further expanded on by Newton in the 17th century in his famous book Principia Mathematica and he often used the notation from Gottfried Leibniz, another 17th century mathematician. Defined by Isaac Newton and Descartes, in calculus C, another frequently taught topic is what is known as an improper integral. It is defined as the limit of a definite integral as an endpoint of the interval or intervals of integration approach either a specified definite real number or infinity or even in some cases negative infinity. In other cases both endpoints approach limits. Such an integral is often written symbolically just like a standard definite integral, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Essay on Huntington’s Disease Near the end of the short arm of chromosome four, there exists a gene which can cause an individual to experience three completely different lives. If the gene is expressed normally, one will never know, as it will not cause the person any harm. However, if the gene simply does not exist, the individual will be born with Wolf Hirschorn Syndrome, a devastating illness which causes disfigured facial features and mental retardation. (Ridley, 55) Victims of this syndrome rarely live past the age of seven. The last and most interesting situation occurs when this gene becomes mutated. In this case, the individual will suffer from Huntington s Chorea, a debilitating neurological disease which will not show its effects until mid life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those afflicted with Huntington s Disease generally begin to exhibit problems with their control of bodily movements, intellectual functioning and emotion(s) (Fact Sheet: Huntington s Disease). The disease generally begins to affect the individual around the age of fifty, though it can occur much earlier. The victim will usually suffer for ten to twenty five years before succumbing to complications of the illness, generally heart failure or aspiration pneumonia (Fact Sheet: Huntington s Disease). The area of the Huntington Gene which is known to mutate contains only one word each consisting of three letters as Ridley explains (55). The repetition of the bases C A G throughout the gene can occur anywhere from once to over one hundred times. The number of repetitions determines whether or not an individual sees the effects of the disease and at what age the symptoms begin. The mutated form of the gene arises when an excessive number of C A G repetitions occur. The average number of repeats for a normal Huntington Gene is between ten and fifteen (Ridley, 55). A study presented by Dr. Kathleen Shannon at the General Meeting of the Illinois Chapter of the Huntington s Disease Society of America on March 7, 1997 concluded that there are specific numerical cut offs for having Huntington s. ... • 7. Hip Hop History Hip hop or hip hop is a subculture and art movement developed in South Bronx in New York City during the late 1970s.[1][2][3][4][5] While people unfamiliar with Hip Hop culture often use the expression hip hop to refer exclusively to hip hop music (also called rap ),[6] Hip Hop is characterized by nine distinct elements or expressive realms, of which Hip Hop music is only four elements (rapping, djaying, beatboxing and breaking). Afrika Bambaataa of the Hip Hop collective Zulu Nation outlined the pillars of Hip Hip culture, coining the terms: rapping (also called MCing or emceeing), a rhythmic vocal rhyming style (orality); DJing (and turntablism), which is making music with record players and DJ mixers (aural/sound and music creation); ... At 1520 Sedgwick Avenue, Herc mixed samples of existing records and deejayed percussion breaks , mixing this music with his own Jamaican style toasting (a style of chanting and boastful talking over a microphone) to rev up the crowd and dancers. Kool Herc is credited as the father of Hip Hop for developing the key DJ techniques that, along with rapping, founded the hip hop music style by creating rhythmic beats by looping breaks (small portions of songs emphasizing a percussive pattern) on two turntables. This was later accompanied by rapping or MCing , a rhythmic style of chanting or speaking poetry/lyrics, and beatboxing, a percussive vocal technique used to create beats to go along with an MC or rappers rhymes.[citation needed] An original form of dancing called breakdancing, which later became accompanied by popping, locking and other dance moves, which was done to the accompaniment of hip hop songs played on boom boxes and particular styles of hip hop dress and hair also ... Urbanization In The Late Nineteenth Century Urbanization in the United States in the late nineteenth century resulted from a number of factors, in particular the rise of commercial activity following the Civil War and the industrialization of the period. During that post bellum period, cities grew along with a rising population of those residing in the cities. Although those two factors might, at first, appear to be the same, they are, in fact, different. In one early study from immediately after the period (Jefferson, 1915), scholars observed that American cities grew by about 15 million people in the two decades before 1900. Immigration from other countries certainly featured significantly in that growth, but the industrial revolution also played a significant role (Schultz, 2013, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Fate In Joseph Campbell s The Alchemist Many people live their lives believing that their lives are driven by fate; that their hopes and dreams ultimately have no impact on how their lives will turn out. This, however, does not hold true when one considers the paths taken by those who follow their own dreams and desires. When one examines the lives of people and characters who follow their dreams, one can realize that life is not guided by fate, but by the desires of one s heart. In The Alchemist, Santiago s life is guided by his dreams and desires, not his fate. In the beginning of the novel, Santiago was studying to be a priest, but he forgoes his education in order to follow his dream of traveling the world. • 14. Challenges Associated With Health Care Regulations And The... Emerging Trends With increasing health care regulations and the need for greater value in health care, we are starting to see several new trends in the industry. These trends will require health care organizations to become highly adaptable to the changing environment. Leaders in these organizations will also need to set the example of ethical behavior and also provide motivation so that their staff can be more supportive and better equipped to embrace change. Due to longer life expectancy in today s society, we have been making the shift from an acute care model to treating an aging population with chronic conditions (Burns, Bradley, Weiner, 2012, p. 401). Now, more than ever, there is a greater focus on preventative wellness initiatives within organizations. Many employers are implementing wellness tools within their health care plans which may include incentives for the employees to participate. Some wellness programs include having employees obtain biometric screenings or completing health risk assessments. If the employees meet the requirements of the wellness programs, they are usually provided with incentives such as a smaller deductible or a lower cost share for their monthly premiums. With all of the new benefits and provisions under health care reform, consumers are becoming increasingly knowledgeable about their health benefits. In addition, there have been many technological advances in health care through the years, creating a wealth of information ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

MAGMA CONTAMINATION AND SULFIDE IMMISCIBILITY OF THE METEORIC IMPACT ZONE IN THE SUDBURY NI CU DEPOSITS: ONTARIO, CANADA WILLIAMS, Jane B. (University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, willijan@uwec.edu) Sudbury, Canada is the location of a world class Ni Cu deposit phenomena. Numerous studies have produced an explanation for the complex evolution of its deposition and enrichment thanks to the impaction of a meteorite 1.85 million years ago. The impact of the meteorite is thought to have caused fracturing that led to the generation of magma from deep in the crust that helped in later filling the crater and producing the igneous complex (Faggart et. al., 1985). The igneous complex (Figure 1a) has an elongated shape (60 km long and 27 km wide) with circular deposits surrounding it similar to a bulls eye. Evidence of the meteoric impact includes brecciation located in the center of the basin (Onaping Formation), deformation of the margin of the intrusive complex (Huronian Group), shatter cones, and pseudotachylite. The meteor is thought to have flash melted the crust which proceeded to differentiate into a granophyre and a leuconorite to norite composition. The granophyre makes up 60% of the complex and the leuconorite and norite make up the remaining 40% (Figure 1b)(Barnes et. al., 2005). About 50% of the ore is found in the sublayer norite and the breccia that is associated with the norite. This ore is mainly disseminated sulphides. The massive sulphides are located in the center ... The RIPA G:2 is used to assess the geriatric population and can classify, define, and measure their cognitive linguistic deficits (Fogle Ross Swain, 2012). The RIPA G:2 is a valid assessment measure due to its high reliability and validity (Fogle Ross Swain, 2012). This assessment includes seven subtests, which incorporate immediate memory, temporal orientation, spatial orientation, recalling general information, situational knowledge, categorical vocabulary, and listening comprehension (Fogle Ross Swain, 2012). • 17. The Pros And Cons Of Cyberbullying ccount and send damaging messages, pretending to be someone else online to hurt another person. Sexting, a circulating sexually suggestive pictures or messages, is reported that one in five teens have posted or sent sexually suggestive or nude pictures of themselves to others ( Cyber Bullying Statistics ). Taking unflattering pictures of a person and spreading them through cell phones or the internet. A statistic from the Harford County states that one in ten teens have had embarrassing or damaging pictures taken of themselves without their permission ( Cyber Bullying Statistics ). On Twitter, a social networking site, subtweeting is a new form of bullying. Subtweeting is the act of post a rude comment without the name of the person it is about (Hinduja). Usually the person who posted the tweet does not have the guts to tag the other person or say it to them in person. For example, a girl and a boy broke up and the boy went to twitter to express his feelings. He would post something emotional for the whole twitter world to see. In reality this, boy was talking about his old girlfriend and did not have the guts to say it straight to her. All age groups and genders are exposed to cyberbullying because of social media being available to all people. The age group that cyberbullying affects the most is teenagers. Teens are more likely to be involved with cyberbullying because adults have more to jeopardize. If adults would post unprofessional comments about their bosses online, the outcome would be getting fired. Adults have a better understanding of what correct behavior online looks like. Correct behavior online is referred to netiquette, or internet etiquette. Netiquette lists have the same behaviors people are to use in real life. The list includes politeness, courtesy, and respect. Rude behavior and inappropriate language is discouraged (Arazoza). Teenagers behavior online can also jeopardize their future. Over eighty percent of teens use a cell phone regularly, so that means that it is the most popular form of technology and an easy way to cyberbully ( 11 ). Teens are less aware of the consequences of posting online. Teachers and parents can be informed about the actions online and they can later judge that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of my experiences includes taking a Video Cassette Recorder (VCR) apart when I was younger. Another is when I built my first computer and the consequences that followed when I did that. So why did I take VCR player apart when I was younger? The reason is that I was curious, like boys are at that age, and I wanted to know how the VCR player worked. Therefore, I did what any other 10 year old boys would do in my shoes, I found a screwdriver, and I started taking apart the player. Taking it apart was easy, but putting it back together proved to be a little more difficult than I had originally thought it would be. I tried hard to put it back together, unfortunately, I didn t to have the required skills at the time to reassemble the VCR so in the trash it went. This VCR was not the only thing to be taken apart and not reassembled. I must have taken apart a least half of a dozens of them in addition to a DVD player or two. I took apart pretty much anything that was not bolted to the floor. To be fair, most of them were broken and were junk anyways, so me taking them apart didn t mean I was out of control or anything. • 20. Characteristics Of The Human Auditory System The human auditory system is one of the most complex and remarkable systems of the human body. Without all components working in a harmonious manner, a person can easily become alienated from society. There are four key areas that one needs to understand in order to comprehend how an individual is able to hear. They include the outer, middle, and inner ear as well as the central auditory nervous system. The collaboration of all of these components allow humans to hear sound. One of the most important concepts to understand, before delving into the anatomy of the human ear, is what exactly individuals are receiving as the signal that is commonly referred to as sound. Although there are many definitions for sound, it can be easily understood as a disturbance in an elastic medium that propagates through the medium in a longitudinal motion (Darrow 2017). This disturbance occurs in the form of vibrations. The three characteristics of a sound include intensity, frequency, and duration, which all play an integral part in how an individual interprets a sound. The first area that a sound arrives at in its journey to be perceived is the outer ear. At this point, sound is being transmitted in terms of acoustic energy. The outer ear consists of two major parts, the pinna and the ear canal. The pinna serves as a funnel, where several of its cavities act as sound enhancing mechanisms. The ear canal acts as a quarter length resonator. What this means is that it enhances ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
