The teacher will place students into groups to research and learn about different religious traditions using YouTube videos and Voki characters. Each group will be assigned a different holiday to focus on. The teacher will monitor the students' video selections and provide guidance on using the Smart Board and creating Voki characters. To evaluate the activity, each group will present their video and Voki to the class and students will receive credit for participation, handling the material appropriately, and making honest efforts to complete the task.
1. Analyze Learners:I am teaching a 4th grade class. There are 11 girls and 9 boys so it
is fairly even in terms of gender. There are 15 Caucasian students and 5 African American.
State Objectives: My students will be able to convey the traditions of different
religions using YouTube videos and Vokis with 100% accuracy by the end of the day.
Select Methods: I will place my students into groups of 4 which will mean there are 5
separate groups. I will assign each group a certain holiday to learn about. I will make sure that
the safe-search filter is on when they access YouTube, and I will tell them to find a video about
their religion that properly teaches them some aspects of it. They will then be shown what a Voki
is and will create a voki that portrays someone of the religion they were assigned.
Utilize Media and Material:
-
I will use the Smart Board to show the students how to access YouTube.com
-
I will make sure that everyone is on task by walking around and helping any student that has
questions.
I will then show them how to create a voki.
I will let them get on their computers in their groups and will check the videos that they pick
to ensure that it is appropriate for the class.
Require Learner Participation:
Each group will pull up their video and Voki on the Smart Board with my assistance. They will
be given the opportunity to briefly tell the class about their holiday, and show off their Voki that
they created. I want to make sure that every student participates in some way.
Evaluate and Revise:
2. The main part of their grade comes if they tried to participate. If I see that they tried, they get the
daily participation grade. As long as they handle themselves in a good manner and take the
assignment seriously, I will award them full credit. If they have trouble with anything and mess
something up, I will not deduct points if I know it was an honest mistake and/or they try to
correct it.
