1. A- Analyze Learners
o Students are in the fifth grade. There are 24 students total, 11 of the students are
female and 13 of the students are male. Among the 24 students, one female
student has recently transferred from Japan and one of the male students has
transferred from Colombia. Both students are fluent in their native language as
well as English. Both transfer students also have thick accents.
S- State Objectives
o We will begin the unit by going over the seven continents as a way to activate
prior knowledge. Students will name the seven continents after watching a
YouTube video that includes a song and view a picture that has a quick fact about
each continent. Students will also begin brainstorming on the continent they
would like to choose for their final project with will be presented by the end of the
unit. Students will be required to name the seven continents by the end of the day
and they will be able to do so with 100% accuracy.
S- Select Materials
o Students will watch a YouTube video that has a song about the continents to help
them remember the names of the continents. A photo will also be viewed that was
made using photo shop that also incorporates the continents. Students will also be
required to post 1-2 questions that they wish to know the answer to each day on
the classroom Facebook page. Time will be permitted in class to do so.
U- Utilize Media and Materials
o I have previewed the video and the picture to ensure that both are appropriate for
the information in which we are studying. Both sources will be shown in the
2. classroom using the projector. The Facebook page will be closely monitored to
ensure that all information follows the classroom guidelines.
R- Require Learner Participation
o I will encourage classroom discussion after viewing each source. To ensure
understanding, I will also encourage students to ask questions and answer them to
the best of my ability. A Facebook page will be created for discussion that can be
completed outside of the classroom.
E- Evaluate and Revise
o Before viewing the sources, I will ask students want they know about the
continents and what they anticipate to learn throughout the unit. Students will be
encouraged to keep a list of questions that they wish to know the answer to and
may record the answers as the become available to them.
