Analyze the Learner
This is a 4th grade class that is made up of 20 students. 11 of the students are girls and 9 of the students
are boys. The students are somewhat diverse 2 of the students are Muslims, 2 African Americans and 3
of the students are Jewish. The students will begin this lesson with a discussion of holidays, I will use
this time to gauge what the students know of different holiday traditions.
State the Objective
Students will learn holiday traditions by the end of this lesson. The students will be active in the
learning process. The students will be collaborating with each other on this project and will be using
varying uses of technology in order to achieve this objective with 100% accuracy.
Select the 3 M’s
Method: the students will split into groups of 2 and work together on this project. The students will
discuss their own holiday traditions and will use various technologies to achieve this.
Media Format: Students will listen to holiday songs on youtube in order to gain a better understanding
of different traditions. Students will also use google images in order to see pictures of the different
holidays they have discussed.
Materials
Students will each have a laptop computer and headphones. Students will also need a composition
notebook and a pen. Because this is a short one day lesson these are the only materials the students
will need.
Utilize Media and Materials
Students will need to first take out their notebooks. They will ask their partner 5 questions about their
holiday traditions. 3 of these questions will be provided by the teacher. The other two the student
must come up with on their own. The 3 questions given will be: What dates do you celebrate your
major holidays? What songs do you sing during these holidays? Is this a large family holiday or one for
your immediate family only?
Students then will use their laptops to look up on youtube the songs that their partner mentioned
during the interview. Once they have looked that up they will use the calendar on their laptop to see
when the next holiday of their partner is, and they will create a reminder for themselves. Student will
then look up pictures of the traditional holiday sequence of events for their partner’s holiday.
2. Require Learner Participation
The students will be participating the entire class because they will be conducting the interview and
researching the holiday traditions. At the end of the class the students will again meet with their
partner to make sure that what they found was in deed accurate.
Evaluate and Revise
They students will give a short presentation to the class during the next class period. During this time
the students will show the class what they learned about their partner’s holiday traditions and they will
show the class the youtube video (with the song).
