William Shakespeare Character Analysis
I m a huge nerd about Shakespeare.William Shakespeare is someone who has had a profound impact
upon the consciousness and culture of the entire English speaking world. His plays are the foundation
for some of the greatest movies and TV shows that we have including many of our english words and
many phrases and ideas that we commonly use come directly from Shakespeare. However, there are
many who wonder who he really is and many people speculate that the man they call William
Shakespeare is not actually the author of the plays and sonnets attributed to his name. I do not agree
and I am in firm belief that William Shakespeare is the one who wrote the plays.
William Shakespeare as we know him was born in Stratford, a village on the Avon river in the county
of Warwickshire in England. We have no actual records of when he was born, however we do have a
record of when he was baptized, which was on April 26 1564. He was the eldest surviving son of a
glove maker, John Shakespeare and Mary Arden. At the age of eighteen he married Anne Hathaway
and until 1592, when he resurfaced again in the London theatre scene.
The first point of evidence in the authorship conflict is that Shakespeare s name is on the plays and
poems he wrote. Tom Kathman and David Reedy point this out in their book. How We Know That
Shakespeare Wrote Shakespeare: The Historical Facts. In 1593, the narrative poem Venus and Adonis
was published by Stratford native Richard Field, with a dedication to the Earl of

The Ethical Dilemmas of Genetic Testing for Huntington s...
The Ethical Dilemmas of Genetic Testing for Huntington s Disease
INTRODUCTION Huntington s Disease (HD) is an autosomal dominant, progressive,
neurodegenerative disorder (Walker, 2007 and Harmon, 2007). The gene that causes the disease is
located on the fourth chromosome and causes an abnormal number of repeats in the patient s genetic
code (Harmon, 2007). Huntington s Disease can have devastating effects on patients quality of life.
The first symptoms of HD generally start between the ages of 30 and 45 and patients are typically
asymptomatic prior to this time (Terrenoire, 1992 and Walker, 2007). However, the disease progresses
with subtle changes in motor control, personality, and cognition. Patients eventually develop distinct

However, confidentiality rights also protect the patient s health information and right to privacy.
Another issue that arises concerns the confidentiality of HD diagnoses with relation to insurance
companies. Many patients fear that they will be denied or will no longer be able to afford insurance
coverage if the insurance company learns that they will one day have HD (Ethical issues of genetic
diagnosis, 2007). Insurance companies may also begin to mandate that genetically related individuals
undergo predictive genetic testing for HD if one family member develops the disease (Ethical issues
of genetic diagnosis, 2007). Another ethical debate reigns in the choice for HD patients to have
children and in prenatal screening for HD. Since HD is generally not diagnosed until later in life,
many patients have children before their HD diagnosis (Ethical issues of genetic diagnosis, 2007). The
children of one parent with HD have a 50% chance of developing the disease themselves. However, if
a patient tests positive for the gene that causes Huntington s disease before having children, conflicts
could arise between partners about whether or not to even have children (Ethical issues of genetic
diagnosis, 2007 and Tassicker, Savulescu, Skene, Marshall, Fitzgerald Delatycki, 2003). The
predictive genetic test for HD can also be performed before a baby is born. If

Retinitis Pigmentosa
The study proposed herein aims to accomplish the following: To determine the optimal exposure,
gamma, contrast, and brightness corrections necessary to increase the perceived contrast of images by
individuals affected by Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) and to determine the optimal image overlay of input
signals corrected at both high and low thresholds such that perceived contrast is maximized.
Additionally, this study will develop an I/O system of minimal necessary size responsible for image
processing following image acquisition from micro cameras that will output post processed image data
onto small, high resolution LCD/LED screens contained in a wearable binocular device similar to
commercially available home theater glasses. Lastly, this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) is one of such currently untreatable causes of blindness. RP, along with Age
Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) are amongst the more frequent causes of blindness in the
developed world (Greenwald 2009), while RP itself is the leading cause of inherited blindness
(Palanker 2004). To understand the diverse causes of RP, a basic understanding of visual perception is
required. Phototransduction (conversion of light to electrical signals) occurs first, which is initiated by
two types of photoreceptors: rods and cones. These two types vary in their function as rods are
primarily responsible for night vision and lack sensitivity to color while cones function in color vision.
Light contacts these photoreceptors, and isomerizes a retinaldehydechromophore (retinal) which is
bound to varying types of opsin proteins corresponding in their reactivity to different wavelengths of
light. Upon absorption of a photon of light, the chromophore 11 cis retinal is isomerized to the all
trans confirmation, which subsequently causes a series of molecular interactions which ultimately
result in the electrical response of the photoreceptors (Vugler 2010). As 11 cis retinal is required to
absorb photons of light, this compound must be regenerated, a function that is performed with the aid
of nearby cells of the retinal pigment epithelium

My Moment In My Life
I looked up and saw a smiling baby with blue eyes, so sweet and innocent. Who knew life would
throw these obstacles at us? Only a few days old and her future was in jeopardy. The young child had
already pushed through life changing surgeries. Personal experiences effect everybody, some happy
while others are not as joyful. Sometimes all you can do is hope that there is a chance things can go
your way. But the hardest part is staying strong for those you love. Within the span of her life a sweet
little angel was in and out of Tampa Regional Medical Hospital, came home for a whole month until
the day that changed everything. Airlifted back to the Hospital for a ruptured incision; which she had
gotten from a surgery when she was just an infant. Slowly it became clear that this little blue eyed girl
would never catch a break. The baby s mother, who is my brother s best friend s girlfriend, posted on
Facebook, a Social Media site, every couple of minutes updating her loved ones about information on
her precious baby. As the minutes proceeded to crawl by slower and slower I started to become
worried. When I finally arrived at the hospital, I received the message I was dreading, they had moved
into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Trying to hold myself together I ambled through the hospital halls,
leading my mother toward the ICU; we entered the room to see a crowd of familiar faces gathered by
a hospital bed. Stopping before the bed, I took a deep breath and without actually

Rhetorical Analysis Of Hippolytus
Euripides is known for starting his plays with a speech, which gives background information and
informs the reader what is going to occur later on in Hippolytus. Although this gives away the surprise
to the reader right from the start, it allows them to understand the reasoning behind the motive and
gives a better understanding. In the beginning scene, Aphrodite gives a speech about her hatred
towards Hippolytus, considering he did the worst thing possible, by not worship her since he hunts all
day and does not believe in sex. She then explains in the passage what she is going to do in revenge in
order to get back at him for his wrongdoings. It is clear how furious this makes Aphrodite and how it
makes her feel less powerful that she is not supported by Hippolytus. Aphrodite foreshadows what is
going to happen throughout the play, which informs only the reader of what is going to happen, while
the characters have no idea. Through numerous stylistic devices, lexical groups, and syntax, the
audience is able to get a much deeper and better understanding of why Aphrodite has such a hatred for
Hippolytus. The beginning of the scene is very powerful and persuasive. Aphrodite does everything in
her power to make sure not only Hippolytus but also the readers know how much authority she has
over the other characters. This is shown by litotes in the first line, where she is telling the reader how
much power she has by saying what she is not: I am powerful and not without a name

The Invention Of China s Inventions
On a daily basis, people come across hundreds of inventions that are made around the world. Each one
of these inventions have profoundly affected the way people live their lives. China is one of the
leading providers to the United States. They have also made various inventions that people benefit
from today.
One of China s earliest inventions was paper. This invention was developed in 105AD and has become
a product people still use today. The ingredients that were used to make paper was a variety of fibrous
materials, birch leaves, and wood pulp. The process of making paper would take up to thirty days to
construct. The production of paper was a rigorous process that China held secret for hundreds of years.
Despite the fact that there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By this time paper mills had been invented in other countries which caused the paper to go from a
complex recipe that was one held secret by the Chinese to a ubiquitous production with the use of
machinery.
People have come far in the innovation of paper. One component that has been altered are the
ingredients that go into the paper. Although some ingredients remain the same, paper factories use
more chemicals to manufacture paper rather than the traditional ingredients. With this technology and
different ingredients, making paper has now become much easier and faster when compared to ancient
times. It is now one of the most used item in our daily lives.
Another Chinese invention that has had a profound affect in people s lives is gunpowder. It was first
invented in 142 AD by Wei Boyang (quart) and has become a greatly used product around the world.
Like many of China s inventions, it was kept a secret. It was not until 1100s AD that this secret was
discovered. The first to hear about the discovery of the gunpowder was the Islamic empire. It was then
discovered by the Roman empire and soon made its way to Europe.
China first discovered gunpowder could be used as a weapon when they put gunpowder on one end of
a bamboo tube and a metal item on the other end. This caused the gunpowder to explode and shoot the
metal item from the other end. This was the start of the weapons we use today.
The first ingredients that gunpowder was made with was a mixture of sulfur,

Feminism And The Feminist Movement
Feminism is a movement that I have never really claimed myself to be a part. I have nothing against
those who want to stand for what they believe in, but I think there s a way it should be done.
Feminism is something that I have questioned a lot and have looked into. I am completely for women
feeling empowered; however, I find many things that I disagree with when it comes to the feminist
movement. I ve listed five of them:
1. Feminists tend to paint the picture like men are the only problem. It seems as if it s easier to put the
blame on men. Why do we have to bash men who are doing their jobs? As women, we find it
disrespectful when men use derogatory terms towards us; however, it s okay for women to use the
same derogatory terms. In my opinion, it s not okay. Feminists also seem to see one side to certain
issues. For example, feminists do not see men as being victims of domestic violence. Men are not
always the abusers and I think that is is very reactionary to have this belief. Why is that if a woman
does this action then there is a reason that follows. It doesn t make it right and this makes feminists
come across as being hypocritical. You have men who do the right thing and they are degraded. Do
you honestly want the responsibility of a man?
2. When it comes to oppression we haven t necessarily faced oppression like women in other
countries. We can complain about the job market and how we should get certain pay and jobs, but
there are women dealing with far worse

The Great American Victory Described in Robert Remini s...
Robert Remini tells the readers in The Battle of New Orleans that he wishes to educate his audience of
the hard hitting times our soldiers endured in this remarkable battle that made America the strong and
independent country it is today. It is important to Remini to depict the heroic feats of Andrew Jackson
who became a symbol of what was best in American society (Remini xi) because of his great
leadership and determined heart.
The Battle of New Orleans was a great victory for America, during the War of 1812. What made it so
glorious wasn t just the bloodshed or the hard work, but it was that the British Army was of only
superb soldiers, generals, and nothing less. The things that the British endured and the distance that

Henry Clay, John C. Calhoun, and the Warhawks decide to take action and pressured President James
Madison into asking congress to declare war against Great Britain (6).
With plans to go after the principal towns and commercial sites the British composed a three pronged
invasion aimed at the Chesapeake Bay area, such as Washington; New York State; and Louisiana.
Major general Robert Ross went into Washington and burned down the white house and the beloved
streets of justice. After many battles on both sides the two finally met up on New Orleans grounds.
The night of December 23 the British had nearly captured [Jackson s] artillery , Jackson had moved
deep into British areas getting closer to a victory, and after about two hours, the British had 46 men
killed, 167 wounded, and 64 missing and the Patriots lost 24 killed, 115 wounded, and 74 missing or
captured. The men captured by the British were lawyers, merchants, and inexperience soldiers. The
British found this very amusing that we had so many untrained soldiers but, this just proves that when
fighting for freedom and beating back and invasion of their homeland anyone can achieve great
success. (79 80).
Once again the British thought they were victorious, but they were quickly proven wrong with
Andrew Jackson s brilliant plan of a sneak attack in British territory. This was completely unexpected
and stalled the British for a couple of days. He then stopped the invasion saving New Orleans of

Representation Of American Culture In Rip Van Winkle By...
American Mythology has been used throughout time for exaggerating the origin of American culture.
The book Rip Van Winkle , written in the early 1800s by Washington Irving, is a great representation
of American Mythology because it incorporates characteristics that establish the identity of a nation
such as, people, images, and events. Irving s story Rip Van Winkle is set in the pre and post
Revolutionary War Periods, and during this time the colonies expressed great discontent of being
under the rule of King George III of Great Britain. Irving s, use of larger than life characters,
interesting places, and mysterious events, illustrated the extreme desire for freedom, lifestyle, and
value systems for the people during the pre and post war periods.
First, Irving implements American values through very captivating characters. The characters can be
compared to the everyday life of the citizens of early America. An example of this is Rip s marriage to
his wife Dame Van Winkle. In the story, Irving described Dame Van Winkle as being sharp tongued
and relentlessly nagging, morning, noon, and night, her tongue was incessantly going and everything
he said or did was sure to produce a torrent of household eloquence (65). Dame is in direct conflict
with how Rip wants to live his life and her constant nagging is a result of Rip going against the current
social norms of working and not being lazy. Rip s laziness causes his farm and his children to suffer,
and his fences were

Junior Year Essay
Junior Year Junior year was one of the best years of high school, but also one of the most stressful
years of high school. What made it great was prom and homecoming. Prom was so much fun and my
date was amazing. We also went together for homecoming too. That was the first year going to prom
and I knew it was going to be a good one.
Also, the boys had won the homecoming football ball game which was a great start to the weekend! I
had got a class ring and customized it the way I wanted and it turned out great. Now that we were
upperclassmen it felt good to be almost at the top. I still had my friends that I had throughout high
school and middle school. However, I did lose one of my closest friends sophomore year when she

The Bay Of Pigs
The Bay of Pigs was an attempted invasion that occurred on the south coast of Cuba. While
researching this occurrence, it seems that it was a failed attempt to invade communist Cuba. This
invasion was to overthrow the communist leader, Fidel Castro, had power in office until the year 2008.
The main reason for the failure, many believe, is because of the Central Intelligence Agency, under the
power of the young President John F. Kennedy (Bay of Pigs 378). The purpose of this research paper
is to review the events of what was supposed to happen, opposed to what actually took place.

At first, the United States accepted this new form of government as a relief from Batista s way of
governing Cuba. Castro soon started making harsh decisions while in office. He announced his
decision to form into Marxism Leninism, which scared the United States (Goode Stephen). Cuba then
started strengthening its military by forming alliances with other countries and investing in upgrading
their military equipment. Fidel Castro took great pride in his military abilities, he expanded his army
to 400,000 soldiers. This size of army was about ten times as much as what Batista had it at. Kennedy
s cabinet was frightened by this. Because of the extensive military, What was Castro planning to do?
they asked themselves. This made Cuba, and its alliances, at top priority for the CIA (Goode Stephan).
About six mots before the Bay of Pigs invasion, the Cuban Minister told the leaders at the United
Nations meeting that he was aware of plans of the invasion. He then stated that he knew the United
Stated CIA was behind the attack. They figured out this information from various media networks that
were informed about the invasion by the CIA being careless about where and who they were revealing
their plans to. This allowed Castro to become prepared for the invasion along with the areas that were
going to be attacked and a time line of when the United States were planning on attacking. On April

Photon-Induced Near-Electron Microscopy Essay
Photon induced near field electron microscopy (PINEM), a key UEM technique, is based on the
photon electron interaction [83]. The basic principle of PINEM can be explained as follows: in free
space, an electron cannot absorb a quantum of electromagnetic energy because of the lack of energy
momentum conservation. However, in the presence of the nanostructure, the inelastic coupling
between the free electrons and photons takes place [138, 139] due to the deceleration of the scattered
photons and the stratification of the energy momentum conservation condition. The coupling leads to
gain/loss of photon quanta by electrons in the electron packet, which can be resolved in the electron
energy spectrum [83, 140 142] This spectrum consists of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
[143]. The author imaged the photo induced surface plasmonic standing wave on a metallic nanowire
(Ag nanowire) (Fig. 13b). Also, he demonstrated the control of the spatial interference of the
excitation plasmonic field. Also, the cross correlation images of the excited surface plasmon were
obtained by control the relative delay between the driver laser pulse and the electron pulse. Worth
notes, the enhancement of the temporal resolution in UEM to tens of femtoseconds [19] might allow
eventually to image the plasmonic dynamics and its evolving in time and space.
On the other hand, the indirect PINEM imagining (spectral mapping) enabled the envisage of excited
surface plasmon on a subparticle scale [144]. This has been done by focusing the electron beam onto a
single nanoparticle and record PINEM spectra at each spot on the particle surface then scan across the
vicinity of the particle. This was repeated at different relative delay between the electron and optical
pulse to obtain series of spectral mapping image as shown in Fig. 13c. PINEM has been also used to
study the coherent quantum control of the free electron population state as demonstrated by Feist et al.
[148]. This has been done by controlling the photo induced Rabi oscillations in the populations of
electron momentum states via changing the intensity of the optical driving field (Fig. 13d).
This work was conducted on a conical gold tip, the interaction of the electron and

Distillation Lab Report
9/19/2012 Experiment #1 Density Aim: Learn how the process of distillation occurs. Observe how
distillation separates alcohol from wine. Method: Distillation is based on the fact that the matter can
exist in three phases solid, liquid and gas. As the temperature of a pure substance is increased, it
passes through these phases, making a transition at a specific temperature from solid to liquid (melting
point mp) and then at a higher temperature from liquid to gas (boiling point bp). Distillation involves
evaporating a liquid into a gas phase, then condensing the gas back into a liquid and collecting the
liquid in a clean receiver. Substances that have a higher boiling point than the desired material will not

This is the same process as in distillation that involves evaporating a liquid into a gas phase, then
condensing the gas back into a liquid 2. Port and sherry are called fortified wines , because alcohol is
added to a fermented wine to prevent it from turning to vinegar when exposed to air. Beginning with
squeezed grape juice which contains sugar, water, and yeast design a procedure for making a fortified
wine. 1) Add the yeast to the grape juice, speeding up the fermentation of the juice. 2) When the grape
juice has around 3 5% residual sugar, add brandy to the juice. 3) Drain the juice, removing the dead
yeast. 3. What happens to the proof rating of the brandy, as the distillation process continues? Why?
The proof (twice the % alcohol) starts at its maximum and goes down (as the alcohol evaporates). If
we start with a high concentration of alcohol, we will get the azeotrope (95% alcohol, 5% water) for a
while, then the concentration will decrease. 4. Commercial brandy is brown in color, while your raw
brandy is colorless. Why the difference? Is brandy simply a water alcohol mixture? After two
distillations, the clear, colorless alcohol is given itsdistinctive nutty brown color and flavor by aging
wood, often oak barrel. The longer abrandy ages, the more refined its flavor is judged to be. Brandy is
a spirit made by distilling grapes to a higher proof than they achieve

1 Data Lake
A data lake is a massive, easily usable, centralized repository of large volumes of unstructured and

ETL processing runs in parallel across the entire cluster resulting in much faster operations than can

MapReduce refers to the application modules written by a programmer that run in two phases: first
mapping the data (extract) then reducing it (transform). Hadoop scales out to large clusters of servers

MapReduce is a framework on which you can execute programs written on Hadoop. (Programs are

Desicions Without Grandpa
As another Team Meeting broke up, Steven plodded back to his desk where his projections for the
quarter ahead were waiting to be completed. He gazed out the hermetically sealed windows which
overlooked the sprawling city, his eyes searching for green spaces.
He sighed. He had thought transferring to the City from the village would be more exciting and
challenging but it had not lived up to his expectations and he was frustrated at the endless meetings
and emphasis on figures and targets. He was also missing his friends and family as he tried to settle
into a new life. City people rushed everywhere and appeared busy and always having somewhere to
go. He felt invisible.
He could never imagine walking along any street in his home village and not speaking to a single
person. Older folks knew him either as John and Nettie s son or Peter s grandson. Others knew him
from school or shared activities. Almost everyone who passed by his Grandpa s workshop, popped
their head in the ever open door to call out a greeting.
He pictured his Grandpa s workshop in the ivy clad stone building attached to the family home. He
could see the dust motes dancing in the sunlight streaming through the open door; Grandpa sitting in
the chair he made for himself or standing at his workbench, his tools all hanging in their proper places
on the wall behind; his stock of wood stored on open shelves out of reach of the sunlight. There was

Albert Bandura Bobo Doll Theory
Though out this paper we will be discussing the Bobo doll experiment that was conducted by Albert
Bandura in 1961 at Stanford University. We will touch on the history and theory of the Bobo doll
experiment. We will discuss how human behavior and the mental process was used, and how nature
versus nurture influences this study. We will discuss the meaning of social observational learning and
if and how it was used during this research experiment. This research was unethical, not only in my
opinion, but based off the American Psychological Association Code of Ethic, we will discuss more of
the ethical boundaries that were broken, later on.
I selected to research Bandura s Bobo Doll experiment. This experiment, based off of social learning
and was conducted by Canadian Psychologist Albert Bandura in 1961. According to Salem Press
Encyclopedia Of Health, the Bobo doll experiment was designed to investigate the role of
observational learning in social behavior; specifically, the role of observation of aggressive behavior
toward an inanimate object in children s subsequent behavior in the absence of the adult model.
(Dillon 2017) Bandura completed this experiment by testing 82 children, ranging from ages three six
years old from the nursery at Stanford University.

Piglet And Hypoglycemia
Hypoglycemia is an expression used to describe a below average glucose level. Due to young age,
piglets have trouble walking and feeding off their mother (or sow) to get essential nutrients. One of
these essential nutrients is glucose (or sugar). This nutrient is essential because it give the animal
energy to become mobile. When born piglets already have low levels of glucose; however, the animal
body is supposed to compensate by using the low glycogen reserves located in the piglets liver. The
glycogen reserves are supposed to give the piglets a sufficient amount of glucose until the piglets are
able to move towards and to feed off the sow. The piglet is dependent on the sow for energy provided

Comparing Plato And Bacon s The Idols Of The Tribe,...
In discussions of our susceptibility of delusions and false beliefs, Plato argues that humans can choose
whether they want to follow the false beliefs in the darkness, or go into the light by facing all aspects
of reality with honesty. Bacon s argument is similar to Plato s, and Bacon combines the four mistakes
of human nature into four different idols. Idol of the tribe, cave, marketplace, and theater. Bacon s
idols help explain how we are vulnerable to delusions Although Plato and Bacon claim that we are
susceptible to delusions and false beliefs, I claim that the human understanding is vulnerable to
distortion because people bring their own background into their thoughts which distort the truths. truth
is distorted by human understanding and people are teaching the distorted truth to other people, so
people become blinded when they go from the darkness, the bad, to the light, or the good. Bacon
explains what Idols of the Cave are, and how they lead to a distortion of the truth. The Idols of the
Cave are the idols of the individual man. For everyone (besides the errors common to human nature in
general) has a cave or den of his own, which refracts and discolors the light of nature (Bacon 131).
Here, Bacon describes that every person has their own ¨cave which represents the fault of people. The
cave distorts the truth and reality, and this is how false facts come to be. Because everyone has their
own cave, one truth is distorted differently by every single person until

Joey As A 9 Year Old Boy Essay
it might be said I Competence Compellability of Joey as a 9 Year Old Boy Section 12 of the Evidence
Act provides the rules concerning the competence and compellability of witnesses that are called to
adduce evidence for a party to a proceeding. The section states that every person is competent to give
evidence and that a person who is competent to give evidence about a fact is compellable to give that
evidence . With regards to children, there is no blanket rule regarding the competence of children as a
class, but issues may arise depending on the particular child. During the voir dire process, it was
established that Joey is a 9 year old child that had intelligence and emotional development issues and
attention deficit disorder. As such, Joey was considered to be incompetent to give sworn evidence, but

Whether a question will be disallowable will largely rely on whether the court is of the opinion that
the question falls within the categories designated in the legislation. Some of the key categories
include if a question is misleading or confusing, unduly annoying, intimidating, put to the witness in a
manner or tone that is belittling or insulting. In Libke v The Queen, Heydon J highlighted that a cross
examination will be deemed improper if it is calculated to humiliate, belittle and break the witness and
if its tone is often sarcastic, personally abusive and derisive. When Joey was being cross examined by

Essay on Commodus
Some claim that Commodus was the worse emperor in the history of Rome. The fact that his father,
Marcus Aurelius, was a popular and successful ruler may have raised the precedent that Commodus
had to live up to. But for whatever reason, Commodus proved a disconnected and self indulgent
leader.
At the age of five Commodus was named Caesar, and at the age of seventeen he became co Augustus
with his father. He spent his childhood accompanying Marcus Aurelius on political campaigns, and
learned a lot on how to run an empire. However, after the death of his father the people of Rome found
that the years under Marcus Aurelius had not impacted Commodus leadership skills. Commodus reign
was filled with bad decisions, causing the people of Rome ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Commodus reign continued it became clearer that the ruler was mentally instable. He lived a dark
life, one of self indulgence and debauchery. He neglected his political responsibilities and focused
more on his desires. Commodus had many concubines, and throughout his reign had flings with about
300 women and boys. While distracted by his lifestyle, the emperor allowed prefects to run the day to
day business of the empire. As the prefects became more and more powerful the king would kill them,
making sure that no one threatened his authority.
The brutal way in which Commodus ruled created many enemies of the emperor. Even his sister
conspired against him. However, when her plan came to Commodus attention he exiled her to an
island, and after a while killed her along with all the others involved. Another instance of Commodus
brutality comes from an event in which the emperor ordered the killing of a while city. He did this
horrible act because one of its residents had looked at him in an unfriendly way. This massacre added
to the many infamous deeds Commodus performed.
In AD 190, Commodus took advantage of the unfortunate circumstance Rome found itself in. A fire
had begun and had burned part of the city. The emperor took this opportunity to rebuild the city, and
change its name to Colonia Commodiana. Not only did he rename the city, but he renamed months of
the year after himself, and

Morality Of Genetic Interference Outline
The consequences of an act affect the probability of its occurring again. B. F. Skinner. Chance is what
separates the optimists from the pessimists. An optimist will take chance and do everything they can to
manipulate the odds to be in favor of their point. A pessimist will see chance as an indestructible

roughly a five percent chance of becoming defective. This would cause a genetic disease that could

The King Of A Vast Empire
A Family s Nightmare in The King of a Vast Empire In Danielle Evans s collection of short stories
Before You Suffocate Your Own Fool Self, the story The King of a Vast Empire talks about how
traumatic events affect a family s bond. The main trauma in this story is a car accident that haunts this
family. Liddie, Terrance, and their parents got in a car accident one night. The dad was driving the car
when he was going around a dark curve in the road and hit another car. The other car was stopped in
the middle on the road because there was a fallen lumber in the middle of the road that their dad was
trying to remove. The other car did not have their emergency lights on. When the dad hit the car, all of

The father s drinking and the mother s temper result from the emotional impact of the devastating
accident. The family eventually had to move to other city because they could not bear living their
anymore because of the car accident. Not only did the accident affect the mom and dad, it affected the
children. A traumatic event can have a serious impact of the children that were involved in the car
accident. It was not until a year after the car accident that Liddie started to talk again. The kids grew
closer together. The King of a Vast Empire perfectly captures what it s like to be a brother and sister
united by grief and misunderstanding (VanDerWerff). The siblings were united by the trauma of the
car accident and became better friends. They only paid attention to yell at them. Terrance would
confront Liddie when she would have nightmares from the car accident: Liddie brought her
nightmares to me; I did what I could to comfort her (Evans, The King of a Vast Empire. 128). Liddie
and Terrance grow closer to one another. When Liddie decided not to come home from Thanksgiving
when she was in college, Terrence s mom bought him a ticket and went to see her for the
Thanksgiving. When Liddie had a crazy idea or wanted to change her major, Terrance supported her
when her mom disapproved of the change of major. Even though the kids had a hard time after the

Essay On The Nutcracker
In modern times, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky s ballet, The Nutcracker, is a Christmas classic. With
memorable songs and beautiful instrumentation, many cannot imagine Christmas without it. Dance
companies perform the ballet year after year with spectators coming to watch annually. There have
even been LGBT, hip hop, and Jewish adaptations to the popular ballet (Begley). Thousands of
musicians and dancers all over the world perform it to add to the excitement and cheer of the holidays.
The original story of The Nutcracker started with ETA. Hoffmann s 1816 tale The Nutcracker and the
Mouse King that had been adapted by Alexandre Dumas in 1844 about a girl who befriends a
nutcracker on Christmas Eve and battles against the evil Mouse King (Schwarm). In 1892, the director
of the Russian Imperial Theatre, following the success of Tchaikovsky s Sleeping Beauty, devised the
ballet, setting ito Tchaikovsky s music with choreography by Marius Petipa, and premiering it a week
before Christmas (Burton Hill). Tchaikovsky first accepted the task to write the music from the
director of Moscow s Imperial Theatres, Ivan Vsevolozhsky (History of The Nutcracker). He began to
work while on an American tour for the opening of Carnegie Hall. His tour took him through Paris,
where he discovered a new instrument: the celesta. It had a clear, bell like tone that was perfectly
fitted to be the voice of his Sugar Plum Fairy. He immediately wrote to his publisher, asking that the
instrument be

Differences Between Johnson And Justin Moore
Outlaws Jamey Johnson and Justin Moore are the modern day outlaws of country music. Both
musicians are well known in the music industry. They started around the same time and are still
playing today. Not only do they sing and play guitar, they are both songwriters. Johnson and Moore
are successful with their abilities, and the Country Music Awards demonstrate that with annual
nominations. These men play a significant role on young musicians to keep pursuing their dreams.
However, these two musicians have many differences. Johnson and Moore share the same stage and
country music hits list, but they show many differences in their personal appearance and their playing
style. Jamey Johnson stands five foot four inches tall and has his own look with his mountain man
beard and Charles Manson stare. Johnson looks like the kind of guy mandated by law to stay at least
hundred yards away from most civilized people. He always wears two rings. A skull and cross bone
ring with red ruby eyes is on his right hand. His left hand has a gold band with a ruby top. With his ...

songwriter. Although Johnson and Moore have such different personalities, they are friends for the
love of music and respect as another musician. The hard work these men put into their music shows

Essay about The Benin Bronzes
This essay deals with the nature of a cross cultural encounter between the Benin people and
Portuguese traders in the 15th and 16th centuries, which resulted in the depiction of Portuguese
figures in Benin brass plaques. It will propose that this contact between people with different cultures
was on the basis of mutual regard (Woods, K. 2008, p. 16), and although the Portuguese had qualms
about idolatry in Benin it will show that assumptions by Europeans up to the 20th century of the
primitive nature of tribal African societies was inaccurate with regard to the Benin people, who had a
society based on the succession of the King or Oba , a Royal Family and Nobility. The essay will

2008, p. 8), then resold them further along the coast, using the proceeds to buy gold.
According to Joseph Eboreime, a Nigerian historian, the bronze heads are a visual history of the Benin
Royal Family from before 1440 until 1897 (Woods, K. 2008, p. 12). It appears that the bronzes were
seen only by the Oba and Royal Court with access to the royal compounds and rooms, during
ceremonies commemorating their ancestors (Ben Amos in Woods, K. 2008, p. 12) . It is also unlikely
they were seen in situ by the Portuguese traders either (Pereira, D. P. also Pina, R. both in Woods, K.
and MacKenzie, R. 2008, p. 33).
Finally, the plaques are clear evidence of a mutually beneficial cultural encounter with Portuguese
traders in which both parties gained. It could be speculated that the rectilinear form of the plaques
arose from Benin craftsmen seeing Portuguese oil paintings, but there is no evidence of this. The
plaques, however, do first appear after contact with the Portuguese, following which there was a
resurgence in bronze sculptures, probably as a result of the increased wealth and confidence of Benin.

Analysis Of If By Rudyard Kipling
I chose poetry because it usually carries many rhetorical elements and is open to more interpretation.
Kipling is successful in achieving this through his poetry because of his experiences and audience.
The main audience he is writing to would be his son, but once he circulated his work physically and
then eventually onto the Internet, the poem applied to many different people. I chose Kipling s piece
in particular because of the emotional bond he distinguished with his audience along with the many
interpretations I was able to gain from this piece. Depending on where a person is at in their life
maturity wise, they can get different lessons from this piece and I found that very unique about his
writing and how he was maximizing the use of his literature. In If, a poem by Rudyard Kipling, he
integrates his personal experiences in a parallel structure in order to form an emotional bond to the
audience and leave the ending open with multiple interpretations.
Kipling s person experiences are constructed to leave a message of maturity for both audiences.
Kipling has his poetry set in a parallel structure and left many of the lines open ended for further
interpretation. He guides the reader in the right direction of the mature thing to do, however,
depending on where a person is at, the audience will take their own route with their personal mindset.
Kipling is trying to convey the message that maturity is not age, but rather growing from situations
and how a person handles

People Don t Resist Change, They Resist Being Changed!
The Impact of Change Management on the Success of Project Management.
Stuart Riley

October 28, 2012
Change Management, if implemented well, has the ability to make transitions positive, possible and
profitable. It goes without saying that change is a part of life. From the moment we are born until the
moment we pass away, change is occurring in us and around us. That being the case, it needs to be
clearly stated that organizations, companies and institutions are much like individuals. No
organization is able to exist without the people that work within their walls or the clients that utilize
their services or products. If change is inevitable and constant ... Show more content on

If we were dealing with inanimate objects with no feelings, thoughts, or consciousness, change would
certainly be more easily implemented. As I stated earlier, organizations are made up of and rely on
people. People often look to their leaders when change is to be implemented. Some might suggest that
Leadership is about change. In the 2008 Presidential Election, Barrack Obama ran his campaign based
on the slogan Change you can believe in . That being said, what does a leader do when he or she runs
into strong resistance to change and what does that resistance look like? Resistance can manifest itself
in several different ways. According Paul R. Lawrence, Such resistance may take a number of forms
persistent reduction in output, increase in the number of quits and requests for transfer, chronic
quarrels, sullen hostility, wildcat or slowdown strikes, and, of course, the expression of a lot of pseudo
logical reasons why the change will not work . Lawrence made this observation in 1969 and
remarkably, today s experts agree that not much has changed with respect to the manner in which
resistance manifests itself in the modern workplace Kotter and Schlesinger (1979) mention that
negative responses to change from individuals and groups can vary from passive resistance to
aggressive attempts to undermine it. The experts agree that people are resistant to change and if the
change managers don t win over the hearts and minds of those that require a

Compare And Contrast And Garden State
Do you know what you crave in life? How often do you stay true to yourself? Nowadays, people are
overly concerned with popularity, so they constantly spend time worrying about their image and
reputation. Rather than being authentic, people take on a different persona in hopes of gaining the
approval of others. The director of the film, Garden State, Zach Braff, depicts a character who doesn t
need affirmation from anyone, while the author of the play, Waiting for Godot, Samuel Beckett,
satirizes two of the main characters for not paying attention to the reasoning behind their choices.

Andrew, from the film Garden State, decides to follow his heart despite what others say when he stops
taking lithium. Although his doctor advises him to stay on the medication, he disregards his doctor s
advice because he believes that getting off of the drugs will help him feel true emotions again. This
reveals that Andrew is not easily influenced by others. Most would say that it is not wise to go against
a doctor s instruction, but what the doctor wants for Andrew is not what he wants for himself.
Following one s heart may sound ridiculous, but it ensures pure joy. For instance, Andrew wants to go
back to LA in order to work on himself, but at the last second, he changes his mind and runs back to
Sam. Nobody is perfect, so everybody has room to better themselves. Evidently, Andrew s issues and
his hopes to better himself was the reason for attending therapy since he was in an unhealthy state of
mind. Since he fired the psychologist he was already seeing, perhaps back in LA he would ve hired a
new one to restore his well being. However, what he really wants is to spend his life with Sam. His
decision reflects the importance of following one s emotions. If he left Sam, he probably would ve
regretted it because the things our souls truly crave will never go away. Similarly, listening to our
heads rather than our hearts will cause our minds to be consumed by how different things could have

  • 2. William Shakespeare Character Analysis I m a huge nerd about Shakespeare.William Shakespeare is someone who has had a profound impact upon the consciousness and culture of the entire English speaking world. His plays are the foundation for some of the greatest movies and TV shows that we have including many of our english words and many phrases and ideas that we commonly use come directly from Shakespeare. However, there are many who wonder who he really is and many people speculate that the man they call William Shakespeare is not actually the author of the plays and sonnets attributed to his name. I do not agree and I am in firm belief that William Shakespeare is the one who wrote the plays. William Shakespeare as we know him was born in Stratford, a village on the Avon river in the county of Warwickshire in England. We have no actual records of when he was born, however we do have a record of when he was baptized, which was on April 26 1564. He was the eldest surviving son of a glove maker, John Shakespeare and Mary Arden. At the age of eighteen he married Anne Hathaway and until 1592, when he resurfaced again in the London theatre scene. The first point of evidence in the authorship conflict is that Shakespeare s name is on the plays and poems he wrote. Tom Kathman and David Reedy point this out in their book. How We Know That Shakespeare Wrote Shakespeare: The Historical Facts. In 1593, the narrative poem Venus and Adonis was published by Stratford native Richard Field, with a dedication to the Earl of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Ethical Dilemmas of Genetic Testing for Huntington s... The Ethical Dilemmas of Genetic Testing for Huntington s Disease INTRODUCTION Huntington s Disease (HD) is an autosomal dominant, progressive, neurodegenerative disorder (Walker, 2007 and Harmon, 2007). The gene that causes the disease is located on the fourth chromosome and causes an abnormal number of repeats in the patient s genetic code (Harmon, 2007). Huntington s Disease can have devastating effects on patients quality of life. The first symptoms of HD generally start between the ages of 30 and 45 and patients are typically asymptomatic prior to this time (Terrenoire, 1992 and Walker, 2007). However, the disease progresses with subtle changes in motor control, personality, and cognition. Patients eventually develop distinct ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, confidentiality rights also protect the patient s health information and right to privacy. Another issue that arises concerns the confidentiality of HD diagnoses with relation to insurance companies. Many patients fear that they will be denied or will no longer be able to afford insurance coverage if the insurance company learns that they will one day have HD (Ethical issues of genetic diagnosis, 2007). Insurance companies may also begin to mandate that genetically related individuals undergo predictive genetic testing for HD if one family member develops the disease (Ethical issues of genetic diagnosis, 2007). Another ethical debate reigns in the choice for HD patients to have children and in prenatal screening for HD. Since HD is generally not diagnosed until later in life, many patients have children before their HD diagnosis (Ethical issues of genetic diagnosis, 2007). The children of one parent with HD have a 50% chance of developing the disease themselves. However, if a patient tests positive for the gene that causes Huntington s disease before having children, conflicts could arise between partners about whether or not to even have children (Ethical issues of genetic diagnosis, 2007 and Tassicker, Savulescu, Skene, Marshall, Fitzgerald Delatycki, 2003). The predictive genetic test for HD can also be performed before a baby is born. If ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Retinitis Pigmentosa The study proposed herein aims to accomplish the following: To determine the optimal exposure, gamma, contrast, and brightness corrections necessary to increase the perceived contrast of images by individuals affected by Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) and to determine the optimal image overlay of input signals corrected at both high and low thresholds such that perceived contrast is maximized. Additionally, this study will develop an I/O system of minimal necessary size responsible for image processing following image acquisition from micro cameras that will output post processed image data onto small, high resolution LCD/LED screens contained in a wearable binocular device similar to commercially available home theater glasses. Lastly, this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) is one of such currently untreatable causes of blindness. RP, along with Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) are amongst the more frequent causes of blindness in the developed world (Greenwald 2009), while RP itself is the leading cause of inherited blindness (Palanker 2004). To understand the diverse causes of RP, a basic understanding of visual perception is required. Phototransduction (conversion of light to electrical signals) occurs first, which is initiated by two types of photoreceptors: rods and cones. These two types vary in their function as rods are primarily responsible for night vision and lack sensitivity to color while cones function in color vision. Light contacts these photoreceptors, and isomerizes a retinaldehydechromophore (retinal) which is bound to varying types of opsin proteins corresponding in their reactivity to different wavelengths of light. Upon absorption of a photon of light, the chromophore 11 cis retinal is isomerized to the all trans confirmation, which subsequently causes a series of molecular interactions which ultimately result in the electrical response of the photoreceptors (Vugler 2010). As 11 cis retinal is required to absorb photons of light, this compound must be regenerated, a function that is performed with the aid of nearby cells of the retinal pigment epithelium ... • 5. My Moment In My Life I looked up and saw a smiling baby with blue eyes, so sweet and innocent. Who knew life would throw these obstacles at us? Only a few days old and her future was in jeopardy. The young child had already pushed through life changing surgeries. Personal experiences effect everybody, some happy while others are not as joyful. Sometimes all you can do is hope that there is a chance things can go your way. But the hardest part is staying strong for those you love. Within the span of her life a sweet little angel was in and out of Tampa Regional Medical Hospital, came home for a whole month until the day that changed everything. Airlifted back to the Hospital for a ruptured incision; which she had gotten from a surgery when she was just an infant. Slowly it became clear that this little blue eyed girl would never catch a break. The baby s mother, who is my brother s best friend s girlfriend, posted on Facebook, a Social Media site, every couple of minutes updating her loved ones about information on her precious baby. As the minutes proceeded to crawl by slower and slower I started to become worried. When I finally arrived at the hospital, I received the message I was dreading, they had moved into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Trying to hold myself together I ambled through the hospital halls, leading my mother toward the ICU; we entered the room to see a crowd of familiar faces gathered by a hospital bed. Stopping before the bed, I took a deep breath and without actually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Rhetorical Analysis Of Hippolytus Euripides is known for starting his plays with a speech, which gives background information and informs the reader what is going to occur later on in Hippolytus. Although this gives away the surprise to the reader right from the start, it allows them to understand the reasoning behind the motive and gives a better understanding. In the beginning scene, Aphrodite gives a speech about her hatred towards Hippolytus, considering he did the worst thing possible, by not worship her since he hunts all day and does not believe in sex. She then explains in the passage what she is going to do in revenge in order to get back at him for his wrongdoings. It is clear how furious this makes Aphrodite and how it makes her feel less powerful that she is not supported by Hippolytus. Aphrodite foreshadows what is going to happen throughout the play, which informs only the reader of what is going to happen, while the characters have no idea. Through numerous stylistic devices, lexical groups, and syntax, the audience is able to get a much deeper and better understanding of why Aphrodite has such a hatred for Hippolytus. The beginning of the scene is very powerful and persuasive. Aphrodite does everything in her power to make sure not only Hippolytus but also the readers know how much authority she has over the other characters. This is shown by litotes in the first line, where she is telling the reader how much power she has by saying what she is not: I am powerful and not without a name ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Invention Of China s Inventions On a daily basis, people come across hundreds of inventions that are made around the world. Each one of these inventions have profoundly affected the way people live their lives. China is one of the leading providers to the United States. They have also made various inventions that people benefit from today. One of China s earliest inventions was paper. This invention was developed in 105AD and has become a product people still use today. The ingredients that were used to make paper was a variety of fibrous materials, birch leaves, and wood pulp. The process of making paper would take up to thirty days to construct. The production of paper was a rigorous process that China held secret for hundreds of years. Despite the fact that there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By this time paper mills had been invented in other countries which caused the paper to go from a complex recipe that was one held secret by the Chinese to a ubiquitous production with the use of machinery. People have come far in the innovation of paper. One component that has been altered are the ingredients that go into the paper. Although some ingredients remain the same, paper factories use more chemicals to manufacture paper rather than the traditional ingredients. With this technology and different ingredients, making paper has now become much easier and faster when compared to ancient times. It is now one of the most used item in our daily lives. Another Chinese invention that has had a profound affect in people s lives is gunpowder. It was first invented in 142 AD by Wei Boyang (quart) and has become a greatly used product around the world. Like many of China s inventions, it was kept a secret. It was not until 1100s AD that this secret was discovered. The first to hear about the discovery of the gunpowder was the Islamic empire. It was then discovered by the Roman empire and soon made its way to Europe. China first discovered gunpowder could be used as a weapon when they put gunpowder on one end of a bamboo tube and a metal item on the other end. This caused the gunpowder to explode and shoot the metal item from the other end. This was the start of the weapons we use today. The first ingredients that gunpowder was made with was a mixture of sulfur, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Feminism And The Feminist Movement Feminism is a movement that I have never really claimed myself to be a part. I have nothing against those who want to stand for what they believe in, but I think there s a way it should be done. Feminism is something that I have questioned a lot and have looked into. I am completely for women feeling empowered; however, I find many things that I disagree with when it comes to the feminist movement. I ve listed five of them: 1. Feminists tend to paint the picture like men are the only problem. It seems as if it s easier to put the blame on men. Why do we have to bash men who are doing their jobs? As women, we find it disrespectful when men use derogatory terms towards us; however, it s okay for women to use the same derogatory terms. In my opinion, it s not okay. Feminists also seem to see one side to certain issues. For example, feminists do not see men as being victims of domestic violence. Men are not always the abusers and I think that is is very reactionary to have this belief. Why is that if a woman does this action then there is a reason that follows. • 9. The Great American Victory Described in Robert Remini s... Robert Remini tells the readers in The Battle of New Orleans that he wishes to educate his audience of the hard hitting times our soldiers endured in this remarkable battle that made America the strong and independent country it is today. It is important to Remini to depict the heroic feats of Andrew Jackson who became a symbol of what was best in American society (Remini xi) because of his great leadership and determined heart. The Battle of New Orleans was a great victory for America, during the War of 1812. What made it so glorious wasn t just the bloodshed or the hard work, but it was that the British Army was of only superb soldiers, generals, and nothing less. With plans to go after the principal towns and commercial sites the British composed a three pronged invasion aimed at the Chesapeake Bay area, such as Washington; New York State; and Louisiana. Major general Robert Ross went into Washington and burned down the white house and the beloved streets of justice. After many battles on both sides the two finally met up on New Orleans grounds. The night of December 23 the British had nearly captured [Jackson s] artillery , Jackson had moved deep into British areas getting closer to a victory, and after about two hours, the British had 46 men killed, 167 wounded, and 64 missing and the Patriots lost 24 killed, 115 wounded, and 74 missing or captured. The men captured by the British were lawyers, merchants, and inexperience soldiers. The British found this very amusing that we had so many untrained soldiers but, this just proves that when fighting for freedom and beating back and invasion of their homeland anyone can achieve great success. • 10. Representation Of American Culture In Rip Van Winkle By... American Mythology has been used throughout time for exaggerating the origin of American culture. The book Rip Van Winkle , written in the early 1800s by Washington Irving, is a great representation of American Mythology because it incorporates characteristics that establish the identity of a nation such as, people, images, and events. Irving s story Rip Van Winkle is set in the pre and post Revolutionary War Periods, and during this time the colonies expressed great discontent of being under the rule of King George III of Great Britain. Irving s, use of larger than life characters, interesting places, and mysterious events, illustrated the extreme desire for freedom, lifestyle, and value systems for the people during the pre and post war periods. First, Irving implements American values through very captivating characters. The characters can be compared to the everyday life of the citizens of early America. An example of this is Rip s marriage to his wife Dame Van Winkle. In the story, Irving described Dame Van Winkle as being sharp tongued and relentlessly nagging, morning, noon, and night, her tongue was incessantly going and everything he said or did was sure to produce a torrent of household eloquence (65). Dame is in direct conflict with how Rip wants to live his life and her constant nagging is a result of Rip going against the current social norms of working and not being lazy. While researching this occurrence, it seems that it was a failed attempt to invade communist Cuba. This invasion was to overthrow the communist leader, Fidel Castro, had power in office until the year 2008. The main reason for the failure, many believe, is because of the Central Intelligence Agency, under the power of the young President John F. Kennedy (Bay of Pigs 378). Castro soon started making harsh decisions while in office. He announced his decision to form into Marxism Leninism, which scared the United States (Goode Stephen). Cuba then started strengthening its military by forming alliances with other countries and investing in upgrading their military equipment. Fidel Castro took great pride in his military abilities, he expanded his army to 400,000 soldiers. This size of army was about ten times as much as what Batista had it at. Kennedy s cabinet was frightened by this. Because of the extensive military, What was Castro planning to do? they asked themselves. This made Cuba, and its alliances, at top priority for the CIA (Goode Stephan). About six mots before the Bay of Pigs invasion, the Cuban Minister told the leaders at the United Nations meeting that he was aware of plans of the invasion. He then stated that he knew the United Stated CIA was behind the attack. They figured out this information from various media networks that were informed about the invasion by the CIA being careless about where and who they were revealing their plans to. • 14. Photon-Induced Near-Electron Microscopy Essay Photon induced near field electron microscopy (PINEM), a key UEM technique, is based on the photon electron interaction [83]. The basic principle of PINEM can be explained as follows: in free space, an electron cannot absorb a quantum of electromagnetic energy because of the lack of energy momentum conservation. However, in the presence of the nanostructure, the inelastic coupling between the free electrons and photons takes place [138, 139] due to the deceleration of the scattered photons and the stratification of the energy momentum conservation condition. The coupling leads to gain/loss of photon quanta by electrons in the electron packet, which can be resolved in the electron energy spectrum [83, 140 142] This spectrum consists of ... Also, he demonstrated the control of the spatial interference of the excitation plasmonic field. Also, the cross correlation images of the excited surface plasmon were obtained by control the relative delay between the driver laser pulse and the electron pulse. Worth notes, the enhancement of the temporal resolution in UEM to tens of femtoseconds [19] might allow eventually to image the plasmonic dynamics and its evolving in time and space. On the other hand, the indirect PINEM imagining (spectral mapping) enabled the envisage of excited surface plasmon on a subparticle scale [144]. This has been done by focusing the electron beam onto a single nanoparticle and record PINEM spectra at each spot on the particle surface then scan across the vicinity of the particle. This was repeated at different relative delay between the electron and optical pulse to obtain series of spectral mapping image as shown in Fig. 13c. PINEM has been also used to study the coherent quantum control of the free electron population state as demonstrated by Feist et al. [148]. This has been done by controlling the photo induced Rabi oscillations in the populations of electron momentum states via changing the intensity of the optical driving field (Fig. 13d). Method: Distillation is based on the fact that the matter can exist in three phases solid, liquid and gas. As the temperature of a pure substance is increased, it passes through these phases, making a transition at a specific temperature from solid to liquid (melting point mp) and then at a higher temperature from liquid to gas (boiling point bp). Beginning with squeezed grape juice which contains sugar, water, and yeast design a procedure for making a fortified wine. 1) Add the yeast to the grape juice, speeding up the fermentation of the juice. 2) When the grape juice has around 3 5% residual sugar, add brandy to the juice. 3) Drain the juice, removing the dead yeast. 3. What happens to the proof rating of the brandy, as the distillation process continues? Why? The proof (twice the % alcohol) starts at its maximum and goes down (as the alcohol evaporates). If we start with a high concentration of alcohol, we will get the azeotrope (95% alcohol, 5% water) for a while, then the concentration will decrease. 4. In discussions of our susceptibility of delusions and false beliefs, Plato argues that humans can choose whether they want to follow the false beliefs in the darkness, or go into the light by facing all aspects of reality with honesty. Bacon s argument is similar to Plato s, and Bacon combines the four mistakes of human nature into four different idols. Idol of the tribe, cave, marketplace, and theater. Bacon s idols help explain how we are vulnerable to delusions Although Plato and Bacon claim that we are susceptible to delusions and false beliefs, I claim that the human understanding is vulnerable to distortion because people bring their own background into their thoughts which distort the truths. truth is distorted by human understanding and people are teaching the distorted truth to other people, so people become blinded when they go from the darkness, the bad, to the light, or the good. Bacon explains what Idols of the Cave are, and how they lead to a distortion of the truth. The Idols of the Cave are the idols of the individual man. For everyone (besides the errors common to human nature in general) has a cave or den of his own, which refracts and discolors the light of nature (Bacon 131). Here, Bacon describes that every person has their own ¨cave which represents the fault of people. The cave distorts the truth and reality, and this is how false facts come to be. • 29. Essay about The Benin Bronzes This essay deals with the nature of a cross cultural encounter between the Benin people and Portuguese traders in the 15th and 16th centuries, which resulted in the depiction of Portuguese figures in Benin brass plaques. It will propose that this contact between people with different cultures was on the basis of mutual regard (Woods, K. 2008, p. 16), and although the Portuguese had qualms about idolatry in Benin it will show that assumptions by Europeans up to the 20th century of the primitive nature of tribal African societies was inaccurate with regard to the Benin people, who had a society based on the succession of the King or Oba , a Royal Family and Nobility. The essay will finally suggest that Benin s increase in wealth following ... According to Joseph Eboreime, a Nigerian historian, the bronze heads are a visual history of the Benin Royal Family from before 1440 until 1897 (Woods, K. 2008, p. 12). It appears that the bronzes were seen only by the Oba and Royal Court with access to the royal compounds and rooms, during ceremonies commemorating their ancestors (Ben Amos in Woods, K. 2008, p. 12) . It is also unlikely they were seen in situ by the Portuguese traders either (Pereira, D. P. also Pina, R. both in Woods, K. and MacKenzie, R. 2008, p. 33). Finally, the plaques are clear evidence of a mutually beneficial cultural encounter with Portuguese traders in which both parties gained. It could be speculated that the rectilinear form of the plaques arose from Benin craftsmen seeing Portuguese oil paintings, but there is no evidence of this. The plaques, however, do first appear after contact with the Portuguese, following which there was a resurgence in bronze sculptures, probably as a result of the increased wealth and confidence of Benin. How and why have European attitudes to the display of Benin art in museums and galleries changed? It is proposed to show that the ethos of European colonial expansion largely defined and classified Benin art and dictated how it should be interpreted and displayed when first seen in European ... • 30. Analysis Of If By Rudyard Kipling I chose poetry because it usually carries many rhetorical elements and is open to more interpretation. Kipling is successful in achieving this through his poetry because of his experiences and audience. The main audience he is writing to would be his son, but once he circulated his work physically and then eventually onto the Internet, the poem applied to many different people. I chose Kipling s piece in particular because of the emotional bond he distinguished with his audience along with the many interpretations I was able to gain from this piece. Depending on where a person is at in their life maturity wise, they can get different lessons from this piece and I found that very unique about his writing and how he was maximizing the use of his literature. In If, a poem by Rudyard Kipling, he integrates his personal experiences in a parallel structure in order to form an emotional bond to the audience and leave the ending open with multiple interpretations. Kipling s person experiences are constructed to leave a message of maturity for both audiences. Kipling has his poetry set in a parallel structure and left many of the lines open ended for further interpretation. He guides the reader in the right direction of the mature thing to do, however, depending on where a person is at, the audience will take their own route with their personal mindset. Kipling is trying to convey the message that maturity is not age, but rather growing from situations and how a person handles ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. People Don’t Resist Change, They Resist Being Changed! People Don t Resist Change, They Resist Being Changed! The Impact of Change Management on the Success of Project Management. Stuart Riley PJMN501 October 28, 2012 Change Management, if implemented well, has the ability to make transitions positive, possible and profitable. It goes without saying that change is a part of life. From the moment we are born until the moment we pass away, change is occurring in us and around us. That being the case, it needs to be clearly stated that organizations, companies and institutions are much like individuals. No organization is able to exist without the people that work within their walls or the clients that utilize their services or products. If change is inevitable and constant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If we were dealing with inanimate objects with no feelings, thoughts, or consciousness, change would certainly be more easily implemented. As I stated earlier, organizations are made up of and rely on people. People often look to their leaders when change is to be implemented. Some might suggest that Leadership is about change. In the 2008 Presidential Election, Barrack Obama ran his campaign based on the slogan Change you can believe in . That being said, what does a leader do when he or she runs into strong resistance to change and what does that resistance look like? Resistance can manifest itself in several different ways. According Paul R. Lawrence, Such resistance may take a number of forms persistent reduction in output, increase in the number of quits and requests for transfer, chronic quarrels, sullen hostility, wildcat or slowdown strikes, and, of course, the expression of a lot of pseudo logical reasons why the change will not work . Lawrence made this observation in 1969 and remarkably, today s experts agree that not much has changed with respect to the manner in which resistance manifests itself in the modern workplace Kotter and Schlesinger (1979) mention that negative responses to change from individuals and groups can vary from passive resistance to aggressive attempts to undermine it. The experts agree that people are resistant to change and if the change managers don t win over the hearts and minds of those that require a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. How Does Media Shape Standards Of Beauty This article discusses how media shapes standards of beauty. In modern society, beauty standards are seen as close to perfection which makes it impossible for women and young girls to meet them. This can result in mental and physical problems. The article includes the assessment of several brands. However, it is very descriptive as it focuses in on the Dove campaign. This article made me realize that Dove is taking the right steps to prevent women and young girls from getting physical and mental illnesses. Dove truly does focus on real and natural beauty. Also, the article reveals ethos as the author includes many facts and statistics throughout her article which makes it very difficult to be considered as biased. Pathos is also included as ... The absolute size club is currently 119 members, less than half show up normally. The Student Gamers Association is a normative organization. Our members join because of the common interest of video, board, and card games. The club has five officer positions the president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and the event coordinator. The president holds the power of having the final say and organizing meetings. The Vice president s job is to keep up with what other clubs are doing and promoting our club and its events. The secretary maintains attendance of the club members and fills out the forms for the room and events. The treasurer keeps track of the budget and submitting all payment request forms. The event coordinator creates at least three events in a month. The actual way the club runs is dysfunctional. Which is why I choose to observe it in hopes of making the club run more efficient. • 34. Compare And Contrast And Garden State Do you know what you crave in life? How often do you stay true to yourself? Nowadays, people are overly concerned with popularity, so they constantly spend time worrying about their image and reputation. Rather than being authentic, people take on a different persona in hopes of gaining the approval of others. The director of the film, Garden State, Zach Braff, depicts a character who doesn t need affirmation from anyone, while the author of the play, Waiting for Godot, Samuel Beckett, satirizes two of the main characters for not paying attention to the reasoning behind their choices. Through Beckett s play and Braff s film, both existentialist artists attempt to communicate that the key element of an individual s life is to use one s own personal ... Although his doctor advises him to stay on the medication, he disregards his doctor s advice because he believes that getting off of the drugs will help him feel true emotions again. This reveals that Andrew is not easily influenced by others. Most would say that it is not wise to go against a doctor s instruction, but what the doctor wants for Andrew is not what he wants for himself. Following one s heart may sound ridiculous, but it ensures pure joy. For instance, Andrew wants to go back to LA in order to work on himself, but at the last second, he changes his mind and runs back to Sam. Nobody is perfect, so everybody has room to better themselves. Evidently, Andrew s issues and his hopes to better himself was the reason for attending therapy since he was in an unhealthy state of mind. Since he fired the psychologist he was already seeing, perhaps back in LA he would ve hired a new one to restore his well being. However, what he really wants is to spend his life with Sam. His decision reflects the importance of following one s emotions. If he left Sam, he probably would ve regretted it because the things our souls truly crave will never go away. Similarly, listening to our heads rather than our hearts will cause our minds to be consumed by how different things could have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
