- The document discusses a proposed algorithm called Canary Token Algorithm that can detect unauthorized access in Internet of Things (IoT) systems.
- Canary tokens act as an intrusion detection system and work by being deployed directly on user systems. Even if the server is compromised, canary tokens on user systems can still detect the compromise and warn users.
- The proposed model uses canary tokens that are integrated with an IoT login service. The canary tokens track login requests and trigger warnings to users if any unauthorized access is detected, even if the actual login fails. This provides an additional layer of security and detection when servers may be compromised.
SIEM-based detection and mitigation of IoT-botnet DDoS attacksIJECEIAES
The Internet of Things (IoT) is becoming an integral part of our daily life includ- ing health, environment, homes, military, etc. The enormous growth of IoT in recent years has attracted hackers to take advantage of their computation and communication capabilities to perform different types of attacks. The major concern is that IoT devices have several vulnerabilities that can be easily exploited to form IoT botnets consisting of millions of IoT devices and posing significant threats to Internet security. In this context, DDoS attacks originating from IoT botnets is a major problem in today’s Internet that requires immediate attention. In this paper, we propose Security Information and Event Management-based IoT botnet DDoS attack detection and mitigation system. This system detects and blocks DDoS attack traffic from compromised IoT devices by monitoring specific packet types including TCP SYN, ICMP and DNS packets originating from these devices. We discuss a prototype implementation of the proposed system and we demonstrate that SIEM based solutions can be configured to accurately identify and block malicious traffic originating from compromised IoT devices.

Internet-of-Things or IoT technology becomes essential in everyday lives. The risk of security and privacy towards IoT devices, especially smarthomes IoT gateway device, becoming apparent as IoT technology progressed. The need for affordable, secure smarthome gateway device or router that smarthome user prefer. The problem of low-performance smarthome gateways was running security programs on top of smarthome gateway programs. This problem motivates the researcher designing a secure and efficient smarthome gateway using Raspberry Pi hardware as an affordable smarthome gateway device and able to run both smarthome gateways and security programs. In this research, researchers implemented snort as intrusion detection system (IDS), openHab as IoT gateway applications, and well-known encryption algorithms for file encryption in Raspberry PI 3B+ model. The researcher evaluated Snort capability on network attacks and compared each of the well-known encryption algorithm efficiency. From the result, we found Rasefiberry customized snort configuration for Raspberry pi 60 percent of the simulated network attacks. Twofish encryption algorithms were found to have best encryption time, throughput, and power consumption compared to other encryption algorithms in the research. Rasefiberry architecture successfully processes both lightweight security programs and Openhab smarthome gateway programs with a lowperformance computing device such as Raspberry Pi.

While the Internet of Things (IoT) is growing significantly in the number of devices and capabilities, there is little thought given to security by the manufacturers and software developers for these devices. This talk will explore one mechanism, using open standards, to add a layer of security and convenience for devices connecting to a personal cloud including the challenges that exist to make it a reality.
IoT Vulnerability Analysis and IOT In security ControlsJay Nagar
The Internet of Things (IoT) market has begun to take off. Consumers can buy connected versions of nearly every household appliance available. However, despite its increasing acceptance by consumers, recent studies of IoT devices seem to agree that “security” is not a word that gets associated with this category of devices, leaving consumers potentially exposed. To find out for ourselves how IoT devices fare when it comes to security, we analyzed 50 smart home devices that are available today. We found that none of the devices, enforced strong passwords, used mutual authentication, or protected accounts against brute-force attacks. Almost two out of ten of the mobile apps used to control the tested IoT devices did not use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to encrypt communications to the cloud. The tested IoT technology also contained many common vulnerabilities. All of the potential weaknesses that could afflict IoT systems, such as authentication and traffic encryption, are already well known to the security industry, but despite this, known mitigation techniques are often neglected on these devices. IoT vendors need to do a better job on security before their devices become ubiquitous in every home, leaving millions of people at risk of cyber attacks.

Internet of things (IoT) is the network of physical objects connected to provide various services. IoT is expanding rapidly, and is positively influencing many areas. The impact of IoT is evident in medical field, manufacturing units and livestock. The IoT is also vulnerable to many cyber threats, owing to its limited resources and battery operation. In contemporary times the security threats like DDoS, botnet malware, man in the middle, flood attacks and ransomware are affecting the smooth functioning of IoT. Ransomware has emerged as one of the biggest threat in cyber world. Ransomware is a type of malware that stops the access to files by encrypting them and decrypts the files only when a ransom is paid. The negligence towards the IoT ransomware can result in disastrous outcomes. In this paper, the growth of ransomware attacks for past few years is shown with special focus on ransomwares threatening IoT. A detection mechanism for IoT ransomware attack is presented that is designed after study of ransomware for IoT. The proposed model monitors the incoming IoT traffic through Software Defined Network (SDN) gateway. It uses policies framed in SDN controller for detection and alleviation of ransomware in IoT.
We did not predict the Internet, the Web, social networking, Facebook, Twitter, millions of apps for smart-phones, etc. New research problems arise due to the large scale of devices, the connection of the physical and cyber worlds, the openness of the systems of systems, and continuing problems of privacy and security. AuthentiThings: The Pitfalls and Promises of Authentication in the IoTTransUnion
The Internet of Things is here, and has begun transforming society at every level. For consumers, it brings the promise of non-stop seamless connectivity to a host of useful things, including smart cars, smart refrigerators and smart meters in homes, as well as keyless hotels, automated health and fitness tools, and internet-enabled toys.
But with this unfettered access comes the unique challenge of authentication in this new IoT world: How do we determine that someone or something is, indeed, who or what it claims to be? How do we insure strong (and accurate) authentication in an interfaceless, machine-to-machine world?
Five Things to Know About Authentication for Consumer IoT Products:
In this webinar Michael Thelander, iovation’s’ product marketing manager for authentication products solutions, will walk us through the current state of authentication in the everyday world of consumer-centric, non-industrial IoT technologies.
* What about privacy?
* What standards or frameworks are available to guide authentication in this new age?
* Is a password even necessary any more?
* How long before mobile devices become your primary proxy in the consumer IoT?
* What pitfalls might come with the burgeoning IoT? (Other than Skynet, of course)
Michael will review recent research, cite experts in the field, and give recommendations on how your and your customers can “stay ahead of the power curve” as the number of consumers with IoT devices begins its hockey-stick growth.

What are the Challenges of IoT Security?
IoT has many of the same security challenges that other systems have. There are, however, some challenges that are unique to IoT.
1. Embedded Passwords. Embedding passwords in IoT devices make it easy for remote support technicians to access devices for troubleshooting and simplifies the installation of multiple devices. Of course, it also simplifies access to devices for malicious purposes.
2. Lack of device authentication. Allowing IoT devices access to the network without authenticating opens the network to unknown and unauthorized devices. Rogue devices can serve as an entry point for attacks or even as a source of attacks.
3. Patching and upgrading. Some IoT devices do not provide a simple (or any) means to patch or upgrade software. This results in many IoT devices with vulnerabilities continuing to be in use.
4. Physical hardening. Physical access to IoT devices can introduce risk if those devices are not hardened against physical attack. Such an attack may not be intended to damage the device, but rather to extract information. Simply removing a microSD memory card to read its contents can give an attacker private data, as well as information such as embedded passwords that may allow access to other devices.
5. Outdated components. When vulnerabilities are discovered in hardware or software components of IoT devices, it can be difficult and expensive for manufacturers or users to update or replace them. As with patches, this results in many IoT devices with vulnerabilities continuing to be used.
6. Device monitoring and management. IoT devices do not always have a unique identifier that facilitates asset tracking, monitoring, and management. IT personnel do not necessarily consider IoT devices among the hosts that they monitor and manage. Asset tracking systems sometimes neglect to include IoT devices, so they sit on the network without being managed or monitored.
Most of these issues can be attributed to security being an afterthought (if a thought at all) in the design and manufacturing of IoT devices. Even tho ...

A survey on Internet of Things (IoT) security : Challenges and Current statusvivatechijri
When Internet of Things (IoT) applications become a part of people’s daily life, security issues in IoT have caught substantial attention in both academia and industry. Compared to traditional computing systems, IoT systems have more inherent vulnerabilities, and in the intervening time, could have higher security requirements. However, the current design of IoT does not successfully address the higher security requirements postured by those vulnerabilities. Many recent attacks on IoT systems have shown that novel security solutions are needed to defend this emerging system. This paper purposes to examine security challenges resulted from the special characteristics of the IoT systems and the new features of the IoT applications. This could help pave the road to better security solution design. Furthermore, three architectural security designs are suggested and analyzed. Examples of how to implement these designs are discussed. Finally, for each layer in IoT architecture, open issues are also identified.

INTRODUCTION
The Internet of things is the most significant of the future of the internet. IoT has a global network through which ant object can connect with the other devices that are also linked on the internet. These devices include computers, tabs, cell phones, among many others. Generally, the internet of things is a system made up of connected things. This machine contains a microchip that connects all the methods related to it. Microchips serve the function of tracking the surrounding of the network and to give the report in case of any findings pertaining to the internet. The meaning of PC wrongdoing and cloud wrongdoing will be come to out to the IoT wrongdoing, which talks to any malignant development that incorporates the IoT worldview as within the IoT contraptions, organizations, or correspondence channels can be a subject, thing, or gadget recognized with the infringement. To investigate these sorts of cases, it is required to execute computerized crime scene examination technique within the IoT to choose the substances around an event. The meaning of a capable and adjust IoT progressed lawful sciences method is still at its unimaginable intrigued (Husamuddin, 2015). The most significant part of IoT is that it makes it possible for different entities to be communicated and to be accessed via the internet. This is very economical as a result, attracts many devices to be connected to the internet (Balte &Patil,2015). Research shows that more than 40 billion devices in 2019 got connected, and a higher risk of this is expected in the current year.
SECURITY REQUIREMENTS
The rate at which technologies are emerging is so high, and this has lead to threats as well as a privacy issue. The smart devices arising from this technology will interact with other devices and transmit information in the network (Balte, &Patil,2015). If a computer gets infected, the effects ripples to other devices in the system; thus, the whole internet infrastructure would be at risk. As soon as an attack spot has been identified, it is feasible to enumerate the safety vulnerabilities and risk prone regions requiring defense-in-intensity protection. Such safety refers to a typically used approach to protect important data on company networks wherein security controls ...

Final Research Project - Securing IoT Devices: What are the Challenges?
Internet security, in general, is a challenge that we have been dealing with for decades. It is a regular topic of discussion and concern, but a relatively new segment of internet security is getting most attention—internet of things (IoT). So why is internet of things security so important?
The high growth rate of IoT should get the attention of cybersecurity professionals. The rate at which new technology goes to market is inversely proportional to the amount of security that gets designed into the product. According to IHS Markit, “The number of connected IoT devices worldwide will jump 12 percent on average annually, from nearly 27 billion in 2017 to 125 billion in 2030.”
IoT devices are quite a bit different from other internet-connected devices such as laptops and servers. They are designed with a single purpose in mind, usually running minimal software with minimal resources to serve that purpose. Adding the capability to run and update security software is often not taken into consideration.
Due to the lack of security integrated into IoT devices, they present significant risks that must be addressed. IoT security is the practice of understanding and mitigating these risks. Let’s consider the challenges of IoT security and how we can address them.
Some security practitioners suggest that key IoT security steps include:
1. Make people aware that there is a threat to security;
2. Design a technical solution to reduce security vulnerabilities;
3. Align the legal and regulatory frameworks; and
4. Develop a workforce with the skills to handle IoT security.
Final Assignment - Project Plan (Deliverables):
1) Address each of the FOURIoT security steps listed above in terms of IoT devices.
2) Explain in detail, in a step-by-step guide, how to make people more aware of the problems associated with the use of IoT devices.

Architectural Layers of Internet of Things: Analysis of Security Threats and ...Scientific Review SR
A pervasive network architecture that interconnect heterogeneous objects, devices, technologies and services called
Internet of Things has prompted a drastic change in demand of smart devices which in turn has increased the rate of
data exchange. These smart devices are built with numerous sensors which collect information from other interacting
devices, process it and send it to remote locations for storage or further processing. Although this mechanism of data
processing and sharing has contributed immensely to the information world, it has recently posed high security risk
on privacy and data confidentiality. This paper therefore analyses different security threats to data at different
architectural layers of Internet of Things, possible countermeasures and other in-depth security measures for Internet
of Things. The paper identifies device authentication on IoT network to be of paramount impo rtance in securing IoT
systems. This paper also suggests some essential technologies of security such as encryption for securing IoT

DEDA: An algorithm for early detection of topology attacks in the internet of...IJECEIAES
The internet of things (IoT) is used in domestic, industrial as well as mission-critical systems including homes, transports, power plants, industrial manufacturing and health-care applications. Security of data generated by such systems and IoT systems itself is very critical in such applications. Early detection of any attack targeting IoT system is necessary to minimize the damage. This paper reviews security attack detection methods for IoT Infrastructure presented in the state-of-the-art. One of the major entry points for attacks in IoT system is topology exploitation. This paper proposes a distributed algorithm for early detection of such attacks with the help of predictive descriptor tables. This paper also presents feature selection from topology control packet fields. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated using an extensive simulation carried out in OMNeT++. Performance parameter includes accuracy and time required for detection. Simulation results presented in this paper show that the proposed algorithm is effective in detecting attacks ahead in time.
With rapid growth of science and information technology, Internet of things (IoT) becomes as an integral part of daily life. The applications of IoT are expanded starting from connected cars, wearables, connected health, smart retail and healthcare. However, security issues are increasing with the increase of its use. Lack of compliances on the part of IoT manufacturers, lack of user knowledge and awareness, device update and management, lack of physical hardening and botnet attacks are considered as the major reasons for security issues in IoT based applications. In this aspect, it becomes important to analyze security issues involved with IoT and its impact on the users that has been performed in the present study
Internet of Things (IoT) is becoming an emerging trend superseding other technologies and researchers considered it as the future of internet. As now the connectivity to the World Wide Web is becoming highly available cost is drastically decreasing so everyone can afford the technology. As Internet of Things provides a great opportunity to develop an important industrial systems and applications with the help of various kind of sensors that can sense out the environment using number of devices that is connected to the internet, usage of IoT is drastically increasing and becoming a common thing. With this sky-rocketed usage and the demand, Communication and storing of the information faces serious security issues as the security of IoT devices become just an afterthought when manufacturing most of the devices. This study tries to summarize this IoT security issues in terms of primary information security concepts confidentiality, integrity and availability with regards to its architecture.
The Internet of Things (IoT) promises to change the way enterprises connect, communicate, operate, and compete. At the same time, the IoT has left enterprise networks and IoT devices extremely vulnerable to security breaches. Current IoT devices and infrastructures are simply not equipped to tackle today’s sophisticated attack methods. Vulnerabilities can be easily exploited unless security is embedded from the inside out – from conception, deployment, and maintenance, to the network edge and across connected devices and infrastructures.

Immunizing Image Classifiers Against Localized Adversary Attacksgerogepatton
This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.

Courier management system project report.pdfKamal Acharya
It is now-a-days very important for the people to send or receive articles like imported furniture, electronic items, gifts, business goods and the like. People depend vastly on different transport systems which mostly use the manual way of receiving and delivering the articles. There is no way to track the articles till they are received and there is no way to let the customer know what happened in transit, once he booked some articles. In such a situation, we need a system which completely computerizes the cargo activities including time to time tracking of the articles sent. This need is fulfilled by Courier Management System software which is online software for the cargo management people that enables them to receive the goods from a source and send them to a required destination and track their status from time to time.
