2. Los mandatos de Ud.
• When you give a command to someone you do not
know well, older person or a person in a position of
authority:
• Put the verb in the yo form of the present tense
• drop the “o”
• add a for er/ir verbs and e for ar verbs. (opposite
endings just like negative tú commands)
• These rules apply to both affirmative and negative
commands.

3. Ejemplos
• hablar
• Speak = Ud. hable
• Don’t speak = Ud. no hable
• beber
• drink = Ud. beba
• don’t drink = Ud. no beba
• volver
• return = Ud. vuelva
• don’t return Ud. no vuelva

• To give a command to a group that includes yourself (let’s +
verb):
• Put the verb in the yo form of the present tense
• drop the “o”
• add amos for er/ir verbs and emos for ar verbs.
• These rules apply to both affirmative and negative
commands.
• With the verb ir, the present indicative is used for the
affirmative command. The subjunctive is used only for the
negative.
Let’s go = Vamos Let’s not go = no vayamos

• With reflexive verbs, the pronoun “se” is
attached to affirmative commands and
precedes a negative command.

• Wake up = despiértese, despiértense
• Don’t wake up = no se despierte, no se
depierten
