The Chicano Movement, A Civil Rights Movement
The Chicano movement, also known as El Movimiento, was a civil rights movement that began in the
1960s with a primary objective of attaining empowerment and self determination as well as rejecting
and confronting the history of racism, discrimination and disenfranchisement of the Mexican
American community and was much more militant than movements prior to it. Some issues the
Chicano movement dealt with were farm workers rights, political rights, better education and
restoration of land grants. Additionally, the movement sought to gain social equality and economic
opportunity. The movement strove to tackle the stereotype the media and America synonymized with
Mexicans. The Chicano movement was influenced by progress made in movements such as the Black
Power Movement, antiwar movement and various others. Those who grew up before the start of the
Chicano movement believed that assimilating into the American lifestyle and adopting their values,
ideals and believing in their education and politics would help them become more white. The Mexican
American community faced segregation in all parts of life. Chicano was used as a derogatory term
towards Mexican Americans before the Chicano movement in the 1960s. Organizations formed in the
early 1900s, such as the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), sought to end
discrimination and segregation against Latinos. The Chicano Movement did not start at one exact
moment because of one action, but rather it grew over time

The case will be used for understanding the following concept:
The potential role which third party logistics providers can play in supply chains
The analysis of costs and benefits at a company level and at a multi company level in supply chain
management.
The Case also provides background on two existing supplier hubs one in Cork, Ireland and one in
Fountain Colorado. This allows us to contrast the effect of a hub in the US with that in Europe.

b. What role does Fritz play in the hub?
Under the hub process, Fritz co ordinated both the material flow and information flow and acted as
customs broker. For international shipments Fritz entities were involved at port of origin, entry and at
the hub. It arranged transportation using many carriers over various shipment legs. It invested heavily
to upgrade its Information system in support of the supplier hub project including innovation of
FLUX, an tracking system which flowed through the process i.e from Order, Booking, In transit, At
Customs, Inland transit,
Warehousing and pulled for delivery by Apple. This system also included defective material category,
financial flows and all in all Apple was able to monitor the delivery/ inventory process. c. Could Apple
have made any of these changes without implementing a supplier hub? What alternative solutions
could have been implemented?
Apple could have thought of having these changes done without a supplier base also as this hub
system although useful for Apple and Fritz, was a bit riskier for suppliers as cases of extended
warehousing, damage at hub and delay in shipments etc.. were considered As mentioned in the case
Apple had difficult in convincing the suppliers for the hub Agreement and even had to customize these
on a supplier to supplier case.
Alternatively Apple could have had made long term contract agreements with suppliers to have their
factory/ warehouse near to Apple s own

Essay on Classicism Versus Romanticism in Tom Stoppard s...
Tom Stoppard is one of the finest playwrights of the modern age. Some of his well known plays are
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, The Coast of Utopia, Every Good Boy Deserves Favour,
Professional Foul, The Real Thingand many more. The finest of all his plays is Arcadia. The literary
meaning of the term Arcadia inspired Tom Stoppard to write his play Arcadia. It was titled Et in
Arcadia ego . Arcadia actually means a vision of pastoralism and harmony within nature. The Greek
province of the same name has helped in the derivation of the term. The term s existence has also been
figured out in Renaissance Mythology. Arcadia refers as something unattainable as commonly as
Utopia. The term Arcadia is symbolic of pastoral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The play focuses on the romance of the mind and the body. Remarked by early reviewers to be similar
to Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz, Tom Stoppard had excelled in this field and gives a glimpse of his
theatrical genius with Arcadia.
Arcadia covers the two different ages the early nineteenth century and the present modern world,
matched, juxtaposed together bringing in a rare combination of the different facets of Classicism and
Romanticism. The two timelines talk about sex, literature, love, epistemology, landscaping, the
Second Law of Thermodynamics and the romance. Stoppard s intellect looms large over the plot of
the play and is efficiently presented in the form of this play. It is a two act play containing seven
scenes. The characters belonging to the early nineteenth century are Septimus, Thomasina, Mr. and
Mrs. Chater, Lady Croom, Captain Brice, Mr. Richard Noakes. Hannah Jarvis, Valentine, Bernard,
Gus and Chloe are the characters belonging to the present modern world. Thomasina Coverly, the
thirteen year old daughter of Lady Croom, is more interested to know what carnal embrace is than
anything else. With her Stoppard had presented a truly heartbreaking character. She is driven not only
by intellectual knowledge but by sexual desires also. Although Lady Croom tells Thomasina that she
must wed before she is over educated. With her Stoppard puts forth the classicism in an elegant way.

How Does Edgar Allan Poe Use Imagery
When reading a novel I often get engaged by the amount of detail the author includes. I find myself
most interested when I can picture myself in the character s shoes and feel like i m in the novel
myself. This kind of feeling is caused by imagery. Imagery is defined as the use of vivid figurative
language to represent objects, actions or ideas. Authors tend to use imagery to create a mental image
in the audience s head. This is often done with the use of your senses. Incorporating details about
touch, taste, or smell often gives the audience a specific idea of what the author is trying to portray.
Imagery is important in all literature but was especially prominent during the romantic era. Edgar

conveys that the things that made the other kids happy were not the same things that fulfilled his
happiness. Poe explains that he never viewed life the same as other people and that there was
something special about him and the way he thinks. The line And all I loved I loved alone reiterates
that through the good and bad times he remained the same. This is justified with the line from the
depth of good and ill . This signifies that his opinion was never changed by others . Line nine through

The Evolution Of Photography, By Joseph Nicephone Niepce
SNAP! SNAP! You ve just caught the perfect picture of your friend running on the beach, your dog
stealing your favourite shoe, or your little brother with his hands deep in the cookie jar. Now pause
and think about the future and how many times you would laugh showing these pictures to friends or
family. Now rewind a couple of hundred years and imagine a world without photographs to capture
these precious memories. As much as photography is used on day to day bases, has the concept truly
crossed your mind as to how it came about? Personally, the evolution of photography has always been
intriguing process difficult and fascinating at the same time for me to understand. The first photograph
was taken in 1826, by Joseph Nicéphone Niépce. The picture was taken from a window with a view at
the Le Gras with a camera obscure. Unfortunately in the early years there had to be so many problems
with photography, with long exposure times and working on the image. So as we know of the when
photography first came about was in the year Fast forward 13 years later to 1839, when William
Henry Fox Talbot presented his results from negative and positive processing to the Royal Institution
in London, calling the photogenic drawing ... Photography. Throughout the years photographs have
been used for a variety of things from a personal level to business (promotional and commercial). But
just how important is photography when the options are limitless today, could you honestly image a

Choolesterol Error
Error in the metabolism of an individual is another major risk factor of atherosclerosis and it involves
the abnormal change of lipoproteins and changes in its functional roles (McCrindle, 2007).
The first main type of cholesterol is the low density lipoprotein (LDL) and it referred to as the bad
cholesterol because it attaches to the atherosclerotic lesions on the endothelium of the arterial wall
(Schaefer, 2010). The other type of cholesterol is the high density lipoproteins (HDL), it acts as a
scavenger and it is referred to as the good cholesterol, because it removes the cholesterol from the
arterial wall (Schaefer, 2010).
Unhealthy diets that include animal fat and other fatty food elevate the production of cholesterol in the

What Is The Tone In Chapter 9 Of The Scarlet Letter
Brisan Brown Ms. Cooper AP English Language 19 January 2016 Chapter 9 the Leech Throughout
chapter 9 of the Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne uses setting, metaphor, allusion, irony, and
diction to set a gloomy, bitter, and deadly tone. With this, Hawthorne simply reveal Dimmesdale s
nature and the true evil characteristics of Chillingworth. Hawthorne purposely titled chapter 9 the
Leech due to its multiple meaning. During the 17th century, leeches were used for medical purposes to
facilitate bloodletting. Leeches are often sought to be blood hungry creature that sucks the life out of a

The Social Cognition Approach And The Discursive Approach
Attitudes are one of the main themes in social psychology. The attitudes we hold allow us to express
ourselves through our values and ideologies as well as comprehend people around us. We can make
predictions about others values from what they say and how they behave, this in turn reduces
uncertainty and enables us to adapt and alter our behaviours in a socially desirable way (McKinlay
and McVittie, 2009). Research surrounding the concept of attitudes comes from two distinct
theoretical positions; the social cognition approach and the discursive approach. The mainstream
cognitive approach regards attitudes as measurable entities through schemas and models, while the
discursive psychology (DP) deals with written and spoken means of communication and has attempted
to reorientate our perspective on attitude research. First, this essay will attempt to define attitudes from
both spheres of thought and outline the guiding principles of each approach. Moreover, both
approaches alongside their differing methodologies will be evaluated with reference to empirical
research.
Psychologists in both the cognitive and discursive field believe that attitudes are central to our
understanding of human behaviour yet they differ in their definition of the concept. The cognitive
approach builds upon a very operational understanding of attitudes, defining them as an inner
cognitive states whereby a person may generate favourable or unfavourable thoughts and/or feelings
towards a person, idea

The Politics Of The United States Politics
Sir Walter Scott (1896) once said Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practise to
deceive! (Canto XI, XVII). In other words, lying leads to more deceit until one is so caught up in the
lies that it is virtually impossible to escape. Truth is highly valued in society; so, what are the reactions
when the leaders of society lie to their constituents? This is an issue that has recently manifested in the
United States politics. With the election of President Donald Trump, the media have become
increasingly interested in how truthful the members of the political system are. Many have started
demanding transparency from those in positions of power. In contrast, some, who will be discussed
later, believe that officials should be able ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Maybe presidents typically have a high percentage of falsities. To solve this query, Barack Obama s
profile will be examined. PolitiFact has a record of only 26% of what Obama said as containing some
degree of falsehood (PolitiFact, 2016). The disparity between these two figures is offsetting to say the
least. In the few short weeks in which he has held office, more than two of every three comments
made by President Trump have been reported to be incorrect in some form. The issue is so bad that
Trump s counselors have begun using terms like alternative facts in order to mask the outright
deception. This problem is not unique to Trump; in fact, many high level politicians have been caught
in lies recently. For example, House Speaker Paul Ryan has been accused of being dishonest about
certain things relating to Medicare. A writer for The Huffington Post claimed that Ryan is using deceit
to convince people that the Medicare system is broken, and that it must be destroyed (Altman, 2017).
There are countless other instances of this happening with politicians, and it is not a new problem.
Politicians are not flawless; they make mistakes and occasionally act in their own best interest like all
humans. Furthermore, they are people with a responsibility to handle an exuberant amount of sensitive
information and make critical decisions. For this reason, it is not surprising that there is an
unintentional slip up on

Echinodermata Research Paper
The primary form of reproduction for all Echinodermata is sexual reproduction. Sexual reproduction
is achieved by the fertilization of a female egg by male spermatozoa. The interesting thing is,
echinoderm male and females expel their eggs and spermatozoa into water, a process known as
spawning, rather than the human and animal form of sexual reproduction. Once an egg is fertilized by
a sperm and an embryo develops, the echinoderm could take several different paths on its way to
develop into its juvenile state. Eggs that are small and lack yolk will go through a stage in which it
spends time as free swimming larvae that becomes part of the plankton. These echinoderms will begin
their life actively feeding on small organisms until they reach their juvenile stage and begin living on
the seafloor. This track of development is known as indirect development. Embryos that develop from
large eggs may develop into a larval, which is planktonic, but it would live off of its own yolk rather
than feeding off of small organisms before the juvenile stage. This is known ad direct development of
echinoderms. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Antarctic, Arctic, and deep sea echinoderms, brood protection is well developed. Brood protection
can be explained as having the young echinoderm inside the body of the female, or it can be attached
to the outer surface of the female s body. In the Antarctic, Arctic, and deep sea species, many young
echinoderms will stay inside the mouth of the female parent, or it will latch to the underside of its
mother s body. In indirect development, the fertilized egg will divide many times, forming a blastula,
or a hollow ball of cells. The cells will continue to divide and form a gastrula, or a double layered

Interview With A Panino Restaurant
Panino Restaurant
The entrepreneur that I interviewed was Lydia Patterson. In 1989, Lydia and her husband, Lou,
decided to start planning to open up a new Italian restaurant in Virginia. The restaurant industry,
especially in the Washington DC area is very competitive. It is highly competitive with respect to
price, value and promotions, service, location, and food quality. There are a substantial number of
restaurant operations that compete for customer traffic, some of which have significantly greater
resources to aggressively market to consumers, which could result in losing market share. Consumers
are highly focused on value and if other restaurants are able to promote and deliver a higher degree of
value, guest traffic levels ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The actual building of the inside of the restaurant took place first. This took approximately two
months to complete and in the meantime, Lydia and Lou were planning menus, marketing plans, and
thinking about how they wanted to conduct their business. This included the types of benefits they
wanted to give their employees, how many people they wanted to hire, how they wanted to run their
business, what foods would be served, and which types of people they wanted to appeal to. In March
1991, the building of the restaurant was completed and Lydia finally was able to design the inside of
the restaurant and decorate according to her personal taste. She gave the restaurant a simple, Italian
style feel that would appeal to the area that the restaurant was located in. Paintings by her brother in
law would hang on every wall along with having hand painted antiques throughout the restaurant. The
set up of the restaurant took about a month. In late April of 1991, Lydia and Lou decided to take the
planning process to the next level and decided to start executing some of their plans. This is when
some of the setbacks started to take place. When starting this new business venture, technology wasn t
popular yet and they needed to market their new restaurant to the clients that they wanted to appeal to.
They weren t to see how to go about doing this. Their menu would be moderately priced and there
were many surrounding businesses close by. They thought

Iceberg In Now I Lay Me, By Ernest Hemingway
The word iceberg is most likely a Dutch term ijsberg, which translates to ice mountain; only one
eighth of the mass can be seen above the surface of the water ( Iceberg Facts ). Iceberg also refers to a
theory/style of writing which Ernest Hemingway was famous for. Now I Lay Me is a short story
written about a religious man during war who refuses to fall asleep for fear of death and the dark. At
least that is the surface version of the story. However, like the iceberg, the seven eighths of the story
Now I Lay Me is below the surface forming a deeper perspective which leads the reader to the hidden

From within the deeply hidden mountains of Now I Lay Me are many examples. On the surface, the
character, Senor Tenente Nick, while trying to stay awake, allows the reader to see his thoughts and
memories of fishing and the bait he used, not only to reminisce but, mainly, to stay awake. The
character would no longer use salamanders and crickets ...because of the way they acted about the
hook (Hemmingway, Ernest). This sentence, under the surface, symbolizes the knowledge of
impending doom. The character saw himself as the bait, knowing they were going to die. Senor
Tenente was unable to put the bait through the torcher like he and his fellow soldiers at war.
Additionally, the character again recalls memories from childhood to stay awake; I remember the
snakes burning in the fire in the back yard. But there were no people in that, only things
(Hemmingway, Ernest). Hemingway, again through the iceberg style, illustrations the unspoken of
horrors seen through Senor Nick s mind. Nick is likening the burning things/snake to the dead and
burning bodies of war; he is thankful it s not human. It also relays the constant bombardment of
thoughts on war and death. Moreover, Nick preferred to sleep with a light on or during the daylight; If
I could have a light I was not afraid to sleep, because I knew my soul would only go out of me if it
were dark (Hemmingway, Ernest). This sentence predicates the near death experience of the character,
in hours of darkness and sleep, during the war. The title Now I Lay Me is a portion of a nighttime
religious prayer, which is again noticed when the reader chooses to dive below the surface; Senor
Tenente is also a religious man who prays for everyone he ever knew to keep alluding

Jane Eyre Imperialism
Charlotte Bronte s novel, Jane Eyre, takes its reader on a journey of a young woman finding her
independence both economically and emotionally. In addition, the elaborate descriptions of the
character herself and the multiple allusions to lands overseas indicates this is a point in history in
which the British Empire was at its peak. As a result, there is a relationship between the novel and the
empire in that it illustrates the domestic issues women faced, fortifies common beliefs Europeans had

Water Quality Of The Mine Drainage Running Into The Afon...
Treatment Plan The number of problems related to the water quality of the mine drainage running into
the Afon Goch North has meant that any remediation system must be multi staged. Furthermore, the
unique characteristics of the mine and the heavily polluted water requires an exclusive method of
mediation. The treatment system outlined uses passive systems that require relatively little
maintainence and have low running costs in order to be used as a long term solution to the pollution
being produced.
Extending the Mine Adit Initially, the hillside needs to be excavated along the mine adit. An area of
approximately ***** m along the mine adit needs to be removed. This will allow further room to
construct the treatment system. Furthermore, the adit needs to be diverted from the path of the Afon
Goch North so polluted water can enter the river. The adit will enter river once treatment has been
completed.
Proposed System The water running from the mine adit is polluted with a number of elements
requiring various methods of extraction in order to purify water. As each mine setting is unique it is
often necessary to develop a system original to the site, as is the case at Parys Mountain. Figure *

Well Behaved Women Rarely Make History Summary
Bad Girls
Well behaved women seldom make history. I have seen that phrase and its slightly more common
counterpart, Well behaved women rarely make history many times. It is especially popular in the
Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), a medieval history research and reenactment group in which
I participate, and is often accompanied by images of female fighters in armor wielding swords. Most
recently I saw it emblazoned upon my girlfriend s chest on a medieval themed t shirt that she bought
at a recent SCA event. I have never thought much about the slogan except for the fact that it generally
represents women who make themselves known in unforgettable ways and are remembered mostly for
disrupting the status quo.
Laurel Thatcher Ulrich, an author and professor of history at Harvard University, introduced the
phrase in a 1976 journal article about the characterization of women in Puritan funeral sermons.
Ulrich more recently wrote a book, based on the phrase, that explores how women in the past have
challenged the ways history was written. In her essay Well Behaved Women Seldom Make History,

The phrase is now commonly seen on everything from t shirts to coffee mugs, and has been featured

Factors That Affect Political Attitudes Of Voters
There is a wide range of factors that influenced people when they cast their secret votes on Election
Day. The main research question driven by our survey was to know the factors that shape political
attitudes of voters. One of the main political attitude that we are looking at in this research is party
affiliation. In order to figure this out, out survey has been grounded around three mains theories. The
three main theories that we tested in our survey was about the tendency of certain demographic group
to support particular parties, the influence of childhood environment on party identification and the
myth of independents voters. The first theory discussed had been discussed in the Chapter 7 Party
Coalition and Party Change shows how races, age, educational background and demographic location
have influence party coalitions. According to that theory, young, women, and racial minorities tend to
affiliate themselves with democrats whereas healthy white, evangelical white programs tend to
affiliate themselves with republicans. The second theory in the chapter 6 about Party identification
identifies how family, relative, and many others religious group influence party affiliation. According
to this theory, children tend to grow up and vote the way their parents do. Therefore, families have the
first and the most lasting influence on young people s developing political opinions. As this children
get older, various others group such as relatives and religious group

Margaret Atwood Critical Analysis
To incriminate someone for your own actions can damage the relationship, and trust you have with
others. Margaret Atwood s perspective on that society under pressure tend to target a person, or a
certain group of people that are necessarily easy to dominate, and destroy that person, or group.
Society typically does this to relieve pressure from themselves, as if using someone as a scapegoat
will eliminate their problems, but this only tends to put the situation on hold until further damage is
done. Atwood stated in her interview with Bill Moyer s, ...People start looking around for essentially
human sacrifices... (Atwood ) Instead, humans should take responsibility for their actions, rather than
hold them off. For example, Adolf Hitler using the Jews for his excuse for hatred of that race. Hitler
blamed the Jews for the country falling apart, and according to the Nazis, Jews also engaged in
conspiracy for world domination. Therefore, Hitler targeted a race making up less than 1% of
Germany, this meaning the Jewish community had very limited political power, and they could not
defend themselves. Once Hitler explained Keep the lie big, keep it simple, keep saying it, and
eventually they will believe it , and what he said worked. The lie being that the Jews are to blame for
Germany s problems, and when everyone started believing this assumption, this gave power to Hitler
to go further with the lie. Such as beginning the holocaust, and the genocide of several innocent men,

Winning Isnt The Most Important Thing Essay
Winning Isn t The Most Important Thing nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;Vince Lombardi s famous
saying Winning isn t the most important thing. It s the only thing is unfortunately the motto of too
many athletes today. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;Although winning is important and sports are, and
should be taken seriously, by far, winning isn t the only thing. Putting everything you have and giving
one hundred percent to the effort is also very important to competition. A team that puts everything
they have into a game and comes out the losers, has a lot more to be proud of than a team who comes
in first but only gave some effort. Over the years many teams have lost important games due to a few

Trophies and plaques were to be awarded to the first, second and third place runners. A 10K is a 6.2
mile long race across the streets of downtown Erie in 85 degree heat and humidity. Runners who are
running in the 10K have to show tremendous determination, stamina, speed and physical agility not to
mention surviving in grueling temperatures and humidity. Great Olympic and Boston Marathon
runners have dropped out of a 10K due to it s intense strain. I was on hand to witness the race and saw
many great athletes finish the race with great times. These are runners who put every day into running
and run every race. Soon after these runners had crossed the finish line and been handed their trophies,
the last runner in the race came through the finish line with his hands in the air and to thunderous
applause. He was 87 years old, and had taken up the sport after his doctors told him he had a
cholesterol problem when he was 67. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; The runner in this story was not
out to win the Mayor s Cup 10K, he wasn t out to set a record time or come in first. He came in dead
last, but finished the race. If he would have listened to Vince Lombardi and say Oh, I can t win, their
are professional runners from colleges and high schools competing against me! he wouldn t have
completed his life long goal of running in a 10K. Better late than never.

Examples Of Racism In The Passing Of Grandison
The famous author Chesnutt presents The Passing of Grandison to demonstrate that racism destroys
the intelligence of southern white men. He does this to express his conception of the negativity
revolved around racism. Chesnutt s novella The Sheriffs Children relates to The Passing of Grandison
by presenting a southern white man having a mixed child and the lack of education for most racist
southern white men. Chesnutt presents racism in The Sheriffs Children by exhibiting the quickness of
the town to lynch the black man for supposedly murdering a respected white citizen. Chesnutt also
presents racism in The Passing of Grandison by demonstrating the master s degrading acts towards
Grandison by surmising his caliber of education as nonexistent. He utilizes these two examples to
emphasize racism clouding the southern white men s intelligence. Chesnutt also presents sex between
slave owners and slaves in both short stories as degrading because of the white slave owners view of
slaves as property. Chesnutt demonstrates the shamefulness of raping a slave to reveal primitive
forcefulness of sex and lack of respect the southern white men had for African Americans. Chesnutt
reveals the hatred it would take for a father to sell his own child. Chesnutt presents these events to
reveal a southern white slave owners action as negative because the injustice the African Americans
went through. Chesnutt presents all images and examples of racism to reveal the face of adversity for

The Parthenon Controversy
One of the most well known components of the Parthenon are the enormously beautiful and important
marble sculptures that were placed in the pediment of the monument. These marbles are shrouded in
controversy as to whom they belong: Greece or Britain. These marble sculptures were removed
between 1801 and 1812 in order to protect them from possible destruction caused by the war between
the Grecians and the Venetians, taken to Britain for refuge by the Earl of Elgin, and sold to the British
Museum to be displayed. John Henry Merryman discusses his view on the issue of the ownership of
marbles by presenting two main points and the validity of both sides. One aspect of his examination
revolves around the legality of the removal of these sculptures. ... Show more content on

The marble figures were passionately crafted for religious and cultural purposes, which presents the
argument of preserving the religious icons of the Grecian peoples. However, the principle of cultural
nativism is not being infringed upon by the British because of the acknowledgement that the marbles
originate from Greece. These marvelous works of art can be appreciated while also being protected
and preserved at the British Museum instead of being exposed to the elements at the Parthenon. In
contrast to this view, Robert browning structures his view on the topic by presenting the cases of
cultural property and integrity. On the argument of cultural property, Browning states that the Earl of
Elgin s intentions for the removal of the sculptures are irrelevant to the argument and the legality of
his actions should be the main point of this argument. However, Browning suggests that the past
cannot be undone, but can be rectified by the Parliament after a debate in front of the House of Lords.
This informed debate will also have to take into account of the integrity of the continued British
ownership of the Greek religious

Who Is Gustav Klimt Scandal
During his lifetime, Gustav Klimt rose to fame due to the scandal his paintings causes. With his art, he
shocked his way to success, with his erotic depictions in stark moral contrast with turn of the century
Austrian society. As said in Gustav Klimt: Modernism in the Making, Klimt s reputation grew as
much upon scandal as it did upon the quality of work itself.
But what exactly was the scandal? Nude paintings were hardly new to the art world. It wasn t subject
that was causing a stir, but rather the actions of his subjects. Klimt explicitly depicted female
masturbation and lesbianism in his art. Apart from the studies depicting the most intimate union of
man and woman, the artist concentrated mainly on the various forms of self gratifying ... Show more

This painting was considered so scandalous that it was kept in a special cabinet and rarely showed as
not only did Klimt portray the uncomfortable truth about infant mortality but also depicted a pregnant
woman in a sexual manner. Typically, that whenever a pregnant woman is depicted in art, she is shown
with about as much sexuality as the Virgin Mary. Jill Lloyd, an expert in twentieth century German
and Austrian art wrote that Klimt s allegorical women, moreover, are frequently seductive; even a
young woman in the full bloom of pregnancy like Hope I has a seductive allure. Whereas anti
feminists associated women with traditional, saintly ideas of motherhood that were radically opposed
to the threatening sexuality of the prostitute or femme fatale, Klimt combines elements of both
stereotypes to achieve a more complex, ambivalent representations. Even society, currently likes to
hold onto the idea that once a woman has given birth, she is no longer a sexual being.
Even more controversial was Water Serpents I, painted in 1907. The painting shows two women both
nude and surrounded by the typical Klimt level of ostentatious ornamentation. These two women are
both nude and in a clearly sexual

How Did Nero Influence Rome
Emperor Nero was the most detrimental emperor to Rome. He burned Rome so he could build Rome
as he imagined it, he blamed the fire on the Christians, and he persecuted the Christians. Those are the
acts that have been proven to be done by him that have affected Rome the most. He has also done
some despicable things to become and stay emperor. Emperor Nero ruled Rome from 54 AD to 68
AD. He was originally named Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus, but his name was changed to Nero in 49
AD when Lucius s mother Agrippina married Emperor Claudius. Historians have read that Nero s fate
was inevitable. His real father, Gnaeus Domitius, who died when Nero was three, was extremely
violent. It is written that Gnaeus once deliberately ran over a young boy with his chariot as he drove
through a local village. When his friends congratulated him upon hearing of the birth of his son, Nero
s father said that anything born to Agrippina and him would be unlikeable and a disaster. Because of
these traits in Nero s father, the people knew that hardly any good could come out of it. The people of
Rome were right.
One of the most despicable manifestations of human flesh ever to disgrace this planet was Nero
Claudius Caesar. Born in A.D. 37, Nero was educated at the feet of the philosopher Seneca (whom he
eventually forced to commit suicide). Nero murdered his way to the imperial throne, which he
occupied from A.D. 54 68. His life was characterized by debauchery, violence (he caused his own
mother to be

The faster the nation can get back to its day to day operations the more prepared the nation will be.
The Department of Homeland should work with the private sector to show them how their profits will

American public can be prepared is for companies to establish a Disaster Plan, which will show how
in the event of a disaster a company will be able to get back on its feet very fast. Getting the American
public more prepared will free up government resources to be diverted to higher threat areas. The
Second recommendation is to educate the American Public. The Department of Homeland Security
currently has a program called If you See Something Say Something . This program ...engages the
public in protecting the homeland through awareness building, partnerships, and other outreach. (DHS

How Did Tom Brady s Influence On American Football
Several thousand years ago, the Gods played a sport called American Football. They brought down a
legendary football on Earth. They planted the football on a stone in California and decided that only
the best quarterback would be able to pull this football out of the stone. They would go down in
history as a hall of fame player and would be considered the best quarterback to ever play the game.
After the placement of the football, many people, especially quarterbacks, have tested their strength
and luck to pull it from the stone. The present day location of the football was just outside of
California Memorial Stadium. None of those who have tried to pull out the football were successful.
On August 3rd, 1977 a boy named Tom Brady was born. Throughout his childhood he dedicated most
of his time to playing and watching the game of football. Everyday after school he would go down to
California Memorial Stadium to practice playing football with his father. He hoped that one day he
would be a quarterback in the NFL. As years passed and he attended high school he decided to tryout
for the football team. Although he had passion for the sport, his skills lacked and the coach informed

Relationship Between Amir And Amir In The Kite Runner

Forster frames the audience perception of Amir through the character foil of Hassan juxtaposing his
willingness to serve Amir, made apparent in the hyperbolic statement for you a thousand times over ,
and his refusal to give up the kite he ran for Amir, though threatened with injury, to Amir s inaction as
Hassan is brutally sodomised by the three teenagers. The racial hatred of Hassan s Hazara heritage is
used as justification for their actions, the metaphorical images and rhetorical questions underpinning
this, why does he only play with you when no one else is around positioning the viewer to question
Amir s values. However Forster foregrounds Amir s growth, using time shifts and Rahim Khan as a
moral voice as he challenges Amir that there is a way to be good again , Amir s decision to return to
Afghanistan to save Hassan s son Sohrab representative of this. Forster frames Amir s realisation I feel
like a tourist in my own country through th montage of shots of the desolate countryside and
devastated buildings, his assertion I don t want to forget anymore underpinning his realisation that to
move forward and fully develop his identity he must first reconcile his past. Forster uses the mosque
scene to frame Amir s renewed connections to his faith, coupled with the recurring motif of kite
flying, with Amir s promise to Sohrab for you a thousand times over denoting his spiritual and
emotional growth because of the knowledge and understanding he has gained through the discovery
process. Thus, Forster affirms Shakespeare s contention of the paradoxical nature of discovery, that the
process is as significant as the moment of

Words For The Unspoken Moments By Joseph Campbell
Words For The Unspoken Moments
Author Joseph Campbell once wrote that life can be split into three things. These things are stuff that
can t be talked about, words that describe these things, and the boring everyday talk we find ourselves
in. However, there have been a series of poems that can help deal with the things that are hard to talk
about. Each poem is different, yet they have one thing in common Love.
Why is love hard to discuss?
You might have heard the say love hurts. However, when it comes down to it, love is the one thing
that doesn t hurt. It is the things surrounding love that hurts. Things like fear, fear of being rejected,
loss, the loss of the person you love, anger, jealousy, all of these are just a few misconception that

The Process And Importance Of Socialization
Hailey Bryan
Dr. Michael Flota
SYG 2000 Online
June 2, 2017 The Process and Importance of Socialization in Children:
Socialization is the process through which an individual learns to become a functional member of
society. Through socialization, one learns their cultures language, their role in life, what is expected
from them, and what is considered acceptable behavior. Social interaction provides crucial sensory
stimulation, which then leads to the creation of short and long term memories. These memories are
important because they reinforce behaviors or actions in new social situations. Another important part
of the process of socialization is cognitive development, also referred to as modeling (Bandura, ...

It continues from birth until death. We are continuously being molded into a social creature, and
learning the social ways of acting and feeling. Without the process of molding, society could not
continue, nor would culture exist, nor could an individual become a person. Every person constantly
has to adjust themselves to be accepted by the society of which they are a member of. If they fail to do
so, they re labeled a social deviant and will be put back in line by the efforts of society. Socialization
is constantly reinforced all throughout our lifetime, not solely through just our parents and teachers,
but also through authority figures, messages from institutions, media, and our culture. Socialization
has a significant impact on the way that children perceive themselves when they are younger and
usually continues to affect them as they grow into adulthood. Thus, sometimes resulting in this
defiant, uncontrollable behavior. Children are born into this world without any knowledge of the
social culture. They must go through a long sociological developmental process in which parents and
other influences, attempt to transform them into socially competent individuals. So, what would a
human be like if raised in isolation? There is plenty of evidence that suggests if humans were raised in
extreme isolation, that they would lack many of the features that we generally identify as human.
Without socialization, children cannot and will

  • 2. The Chicano Movement, A Civil Rights Movement The Chicano movement, also known as El Movimiento, was a civil rights movement that began in the 1960s with a primary objective of attaining empowerment and self determination as well as rejecting and confronting the history of racism, discrimination and disenfranchisement of the Mexican American community and was much more militant than movements prior to it. Some issues the Chicano movement dealt with were farm workers rights, political rights, better education and restoration of land grants. Additionally, the movement sought to gain social equality and economic opportunity. The movement strove to tackle the stereotype the media and America synonymized with Mexicans. The Chicano movement was influenced by progress made in movements such as the Black Power Movement, antiwar movement and various others. Those who grew up before the start of the Chicano movement believed that assimilating into the American lifestyle and adopting their values, ideals and believing in their education and politics would help them become more white. The Mexican American community faced segregation in all parts of life. Chicano was used as a derogatory term towards Mexican Americans before the Chicano movement in the 1960s. Organizations formed in the early 1900s, such as the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), sought to end discrimination and segregation against Latinos. The two timelines talk about sex, literature, love, epistemology, landscaping, the Second Law of Thermodynamics and the romance. Stoppard s intellect looms large over the plot of the play and is efficiently presented in the form of this play. It is a two act play containing seven scenes. I find myself most interested when I can picture myself in the character s shoes and feel like i m in the novel myself. This kind of feeling is caused by imagery. • 11. The Social Cognition Approach And The Discursive Approach Attitudes are one of the main themes in social psychology. The attitudes we hold allow us to express ourselves through our values and ideologies as well as comprehend people around us. We can make predictions about others values from what they say and how they behave, this in turn reduces uncertainty and enables us to adapt and alter our behaviours in a socially desirable way (McKinlay and McVittie, 2009). Research surrounding the concept of attitudes comes from two distinct theoretical positions; the social cognition approach and the discursive approach. The mainstream cognitive approach regards attitudes as measurable entities through schemas and models, while the discursive psychology (DP) deals with written and spoken means of communication and has attempted to reorientate our perspective on attitude research. First, this essay will attempt to define attitudes from both spheres of thought and outline the guiding principles of each approach. Moreover, both approaches alongside their differing methodologies will be evaluated with reference to empirical research. Psychologists in both the cognitive and discursive field believe that attitudes are central to our understanding of human behaviour yet they differ in their definition of the concept. The cognitive approach builds upon a very operational understanding of attitudes, defining them as an inner cognitive states whereby a person may generate favourable or unfavourable thoughts and/or feelings towards a person, idea ... In other words, lying leads to more deceit until one is so caught up in the lies that it is virtually impossible to escape. Truth is highly valued in society; so, what are the reactions when the leaders of society lie to their constituents? This is an issue that has recently manifested in the United States politics. PolitiFact has a record of only 26% of what Obama said as containing some degree of falsehood (PolitiFact, 2016). The disparity between these two figures is offsetting to say the least. In the few short weeks in which he has held office, more than two of every three comments made by President Trump have been reported to be incorrect in some form. The issue is so bad that Trump s counselors have begun using terms like alternative facts in order to mask the outright deception. This problem is not unique to Trump; in fact, many high level politicians have been caught in lies recently. For example, House Speaker Paul Ryan has been accused of being dishonest about certain things relating to Medicare. A writer for The Huffington Post claimed that Ryan is using deceit to convince people that the Medicare system is broken, and that it must be destroyed (Altman, 2017). There are countless other instances of this happening with politicians, and it is not a new problem. • 13. Echinodermata Research Paper The primary form of reproduction for all Echinodermata is sexual reproduction. Sexual reproduction is achieved by the fertilization of a female egg by male spermatozoa. The interesting thing is, echinoderm male and females expel their eggs and spermatozoa into water, a process known as spawning, rather than the human and animal form of sexual reproduction. Once an egg is fertilized by a sperm and an embryo develops, the echinoderm could take several different paths on its way to develop into its juvenile state. Eggs that are small and lack yolk will go through a stage in which it spends time as free swimming larvae that becomes part of the plankton. These echinoderms will begin their life actively feeding on small organisms until they reach their juvenile stage and begin living on the seafloor. This track of development is known as indirect development. It is highly competitive with respect to price, value and promotions, service, location, and food quality. Iceberg also refers to a theory/style of writing which Ernest Hemingway was famous for. Now I Lay Me is a short story written about a religious man during war who refuses to fall asleep for fear of death and the dark. At least that is the surface version of the story. The character would no longer use salamanders and crickets ...because of the way they acted about the hook (Hemmingway, Ernest). This sentence, under the surface, symbolizes the knowledge of impending doom. The character saw himself as the bait, knowing they were going to die. Senor Tenente was unable to put the bait through the torcher like he and his fellow soldiers at war. Additionally, the character again recalls memories from childhood to stay awake; I remember the snakes burning in the fire in the back yard. But there were no people in that, only things (Hemmingway, Ernest). Hemingway, again through the iceberg style, illustrations the unspoken of horrors seen through Senor Nick s mind. Nick is likening the burning things/snake to the dead and burning bodies of war; he is thankful it s not human. It also relays the constant bombardment of thoughts on war and death. Moreover, Nick preferred to sleep with a light on or during the daylight; If I could have a light I was not afraid to sleep, because I knew my soul would only go out of me if it were dark (Hemmingway, Ernest). This sentence predicates the near death experience of the character, in hours of darkness and sleep, during the war. Treatment Plan The number of problems related to the water quality of the mine drainage running into the Afon Goch North has meant that any remediation system must be multi staged. Furthermore, the unique characteristics of the mine and the heavily polluted water requires an exclusive method of mediation. The treatment system outlined uses passive systems that require relatively little maintainence and have low running costs in order to be used as a long term solution to the pollution being produced. Extending the Mine Adit Initially, the hillside needs to be excavated along the mine adit. An area of approximately ***** m along the mine adit needs to be removed. This will allow further room to construct the treatment system. Furthermore, the adit needs to be diverted from the path of the Afon Goch North so polluted water can enter the river. The adit will enter river once treatment has been completed. • 21. Well Behaved Women Rarely Make History Summary Bad Girls Well behaved women seldom make history. I have seen that phrase and its slightly more common counterpart, Well behaved women rarely make history many times. It is especially popular in the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), a medieval history research and reenactment group in which I participate, and is often accompanied by images of female fighters in armor wielding swords. Most recently I saw it emblazoned upon my girlfriend s chest on a medieval themed t shirt that she bought at a recent SCA event. I have never thought much about the slogan except for the fact that it generally represents women who make themselves known in unforgettable ways and are remembered mostly for disrupting the status quo. Laurel Thatcher Ulrich, an author and professor of history at Harvard University, introduced the phrase in a 1976 journal article about the characterization of women in Puritan funeral sermons. Ulrich more recently wrote a book, based on the phrase, that explores how women in the past have challenged the ways history was written. In her essay Well Behaved Women Seldom Make History, Ulrich discusses the history of the phrase, how it was coined, and how it has taken on a life of its own. The phrase is now commonly seen on everything from t shirts to coffee mugs, and has been featured in magazine articles and even advertising campaigns. She reflects on how her accidental fame has given her new insights into her historical studies. Since the 1970s and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the main political attitude that we are looking at in this research is party affiliation. In order to figure this out, out survey has been grounded around three mains theories. The three main theories that we tested in our survey was about the tendency of certain demographic group to support particular parties, the influence of childhood environment on party identification and the myth of independents voters. The first theory discussed had been discussed in the Chapter 7 Party Coalition and Party Change shows how races, age, educational background and demographic location have influence party coalitions. According to that theory, young, women, and racial minorities tend to affiliate themselves with democrats whereas healthy white, evangelical white programs tend to affiliate themselves with republicans. The second theory in the chapter 6 about Party identification identifies how family, relative, and many others religious group influence party affiliation. According to this theory, children tend to grow up and vote the way their parents do. Therefore, families have the first and the most lasting influence on young people s developing political opinions. Margaret Atwood s perspective on that society under pressure tend to target a person, or a certain group of people that are necessarily easy to dominate, and destroy that person, or group. Society typically does this to relieve pressure from themselves, as if using someone as a scapegoat will eliminate their problems, but this only tends to put the situation on hold until further damage is done. Atwood stated in her interview with Bill Moyer s, ...People start looking around for essentially human sacrifices... (Atwood ) Instead, humans should take responsibility for their actions, rather than hold them off. For example, Adolf Hitler using the Jews for his excuse for hatred of that race. Hitler blamed the Jews for the country falling apart, and according to the Nazis, Jews also engaged in conspiracy for world domination. Therefore, Hitler targeted a race making up less than 1% of Germany, this meaning the Jewish community had very limited political power, and they could not defend themselves. Once Hitler explained Keep the lie big, keep it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it , and what he said worked. • 26. The Parthenon Controversy One of the most well known components of the Parthenon are the enormously beautiful and important marble sculptures that were placed in the pediment of the monument. These marbles are shrouded in controversy as to whom they belong: Greece or Britain. These marble sculptures were removed between 1801 and 1812 in order to protect them from possible destruction caused by the war between the Grecians and the Venetians, taken to Britain for refuge by the Earl of Elgin, and sold to the British Museum to be displayed. John Henry Merryman discusses his view on the issue of the ownership of marbles by presenting two main points and the validity of both sides. One aspect of his examination revolves around the legality of the removal of these sculptures. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The marble figures were passionately crafted for religious and cultural purposes, which presents the argument of preserving the religious icons of the Grecian peoples. However, the principle of cultural nativism is not being infringed upon by the British because of the acknowledgement that the marbles originate from Greece. These marvelous works of art can be appreciated while also being protected and preserved at the British Museum instead of being exposed to the elements at the Parthenon. In contrast to this view, Robert browning structures his view on the topic by presenting the cases of cultural property and integrity. On the argument of cultural property, Browning states that the Earl of Elgin s intentions for the removal of the sculptures are irrelevant to the argument and the legality of his actions should be the main point of this argument. However, Browning suggests that the past cannot be undone, but can be rectified by the Parliament after a debate in front of the House of Lords. As said in Gustav Klimt: Modernism in the Making, Klimt s reputation grew as much upon scandal as it did upon the quality of work itself. But what exactly was the scandal? Nude paintings were hardly new to the art world. It wasn t subject that was causing a stir, but rather the actions of his subjects. Whereas anti feminists associated women with traditional, saintly ideas of motherhood that were radically opposed to the threatening sexuality of the prostitute or femme fatale, Klimt combines elements of both stereotypes to achieve a more complex, ambivalent representations. • 29. How Did Nero Influence Rome Emperor Nero was the most detrimental emperor to Rome. He burned Rome so he could build Rome as he imagined it, he blamed the fire on the Christians, and he persecuted the Christians. Those are the acts that have been proven to be done by him that have affected Rome the most. He has also done some despicable things to become and stay emperor. Emperor Nero ruled Rome from 54 AD to 68 AD. He was originally named Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus, but his name was changed to Nero in 49 AD when Lucius s mother Agrippina married Emperor Claudius. Historians have read that Nero s fate was inevitable. His real father, Gnaeus Domitius, who died when Nero was three, was extremely violent. It is written that Gnaeus once deliberately ran over a young boy with his chariot as he drove through a local village. When his friends congratulated him upon hearing of the birth of his son, Nero s father said that anything born to Agrippina and him would be unlikeable and a disaster. Because of these traits in Nero s father, the people knew that hardly any good could come out of it. The people of Rome were right. One of the most despicable manifestations of human flesh ever to disgrace this planet was Nero Claudius Caesar. Born in A.D. 37, Nero was educated at the feet of the philosopher Seneca (whom he eventually forced to commit suicide).
