Compare And Contrast Essay On The Hobbit
The Hobbit was a novel which revolved around the Lord of the Rings trilogy. J. R. R. Tolkien wrote
this book as an aid to his PTSD. This novel was loosely based on the Medieval Times, from the Anglo
Saxon and Scandinavian works. The narrative followed around a group of people on a quest to take
the treasure of Smaug. There are many important components of each story. These include its plot,
themes, or setting. In this essay, I will be explaining the similarities and differences between the three
races of The Hobbit. The first topic of discussion will be the comparison of the race s physical traits.
These physical traits allow a reader to visualize characters. It also gives the reader to make their own
judgements of a race based on appearance. In the terms of height, the hobbits and dwarves are shorter
than an average human. The hobbits ... wear no shoes... thick warm brown hair like the stuff on their
heads... (2, Ch. 1) This race also loves peace, quiet, and a good tilled earth. The dwarves, however, are
stocky and tough. An average dwarf grows a long bread on their faces and wear heavy cloaks.
Verification for this account is, It was a dwarf with a blue beard tucked into a golden belt, very bright
eyes under his dark green hood. (7, Ch. 1). They are very strong from their continuous work in the
mines. Dwarves worked in mines and caverns to acquire the many gems needed for their crafting. The
dwarves also had experience in fighting wars with other races. Elves are a

the Apostle Paul and his pastoral leadership has given me great insight as to how live life daily. His

and preservation of my faith. The book of Colossians is filled with stories of redemption, knowledge
and the power of prayer. The Apostle s extraordinary life from darkness to light can only be attributed
to the Grace of the Lord. Paul s letter to the Church in Colossae is powerful as well as informative, it
not only addresses the specific problem of heresy, but Paul is stating himself to be specifically chosen
by God to demonstrate the role of intercessory prayer and suffering as demonstrated in Colossians 1:9

Examples Of Absurdity In Waiting For Godot
Oxford dictionary defines absurdity as the state or quality of being ridiculous or widely unreasonable
and this can be strongly felt in Samuel Beckett s play Waiting for Godot . Actually, this play is well
known as the Theater of Absurd due to its totally different genre of drama. The difference in genre is
mainly due to the plot, the characters, the incoherence and repetitiveness in the conversations and
actions which bring the audience to view this play as a complete change from the traditional type of
drama.
The choice of characters in Waiting for Godot appear to come from a mad house. The main ones,
Vladimir and Estragon seem to be struggling in their life where they have little if no memory of how
their days passed by, What did we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In my opinion, being spiritually dead is like being a living zombie. Talking about spirituality does not
only refers to God but to one s belief. One cannot call it life if he is not free of his actions and
thinking. The modern man is running against time, trying to make money to buy happiness. He does
not have time to question his existence as the definition of one s existence is somehow formed by the
society and its surrounding. A typical example will be where people uses religion as excuses for their
actions trying to make as if their religion defines themselves. Samuel Beckett play s Waiting for Godot
can be referred as pure absurdity but even nowadays people as still waiting for Godot. They are either
waiting for God to come on earth as in the Judaism religion where they are still waiting for the
messiah to come and take them to the promise land (Isaiah 2: 4) or waiting for Death to come an
deliver them from their struggles. Who is Godot? We have no idea of the existence of this thing or
person. Same apply to people s faith. As what is faith? Ii is to have trust in something or someone that
one s has never seen. But this is what keep people alive, to have faith in the unknown. Man wants
freedom and happiness but one cannot find it by doing nothing. As Andy hunt (2008) perfectly said

Lab Report Photosynthesis
I. Introduction
Photosynthesis is the process by which plants use light to synthesize food from H2O and CO2 within
the thylakoid and the stroma of the cells. In order for photosynthesis to occur, light must be present.
Light reactions occur within the thylakoids of the chloroplasts by absorbing light and H2O and
producing oxygen gas, ATP, or Adenosine triphosphate, and NADPH, or nicotinamide adenine
dinucleotide phosphate. The oxygen gas is released back into the atmosphere while ATP and NADPH
are inputs of the Calvin Cycle within the stroma. The Calvin Cycle uses these two molecules, in
addition to carbon dioxide gas, to produce ADP, or Adenosine diphosphate, NADP+, and glucose
molecules. Photosynthesis is represented by the following equation: ... Show more content on

The leaf with the highest rate of photosynthesis was the darkest leaf, the purple cabbage. The leaf with
the lowest rate of photosynthesis was the lightest leaf, the iceberg lettuce. We can conclude that the
rate of photosynthesis was much higher in the purple cabbage because darker leaves contain more
chloroplasts. Therefore, photosynthesis occurs much more quickly. Notably, these results support the
stated hypothesis. An error that might have affected the data as a whole was the fact that the calculated
rate of photosynthesis for the iceberg lettuce was negative. In addition to this, a few of the other
percentages decreased as time passed. This means that the chloroplasts would have been going
through cellular respiration. This inconsistency might have transpired from a mechanical error within
the spectrophotometer. The control tubes, the boiled and dark tubes, of all 3 leaves were necessary in
order to determine if the chloroplasts were the organelles of the cell that were causing one leaf to
photosynthesize quicker than another because it was imperative for the chloroplasts to be exposed to
light and temperatures that would not denature them. Therefore, we are able to conclude that the
chloroplasts located within the leaves were the organelles that were causing the varying rates of
photosynthesis in this

International Organisations Encouraged International Peace...
After the First World War, there had been immense destruction and loss of lives. The world existed in
anarchy, a solution was needed to prevent another disastrous war and maintain peace in the future. The
solution was the League of Nations that would ensure that there would be no scope for bias and selfish
needs of states to expand territories. The creation of the Leagues of Nations was the first step towards
what was going to become an integral part of International Society International Organisations in the
form as we see them today. With the help of the theory of liberalism, the purpose of this paper is to
better understand how International Organisations encouraged international peace and amity. I aim to
explain how globalization has made the theory of realism almost redundant, how a liberal theoretical
approach is more significant and using this approach to understand why this view made and continues
to make International Organisations critical to peace and how they have helped in the past. The paper
will focus on the United Nations and Amnesty International as key organisations.
The definitions of keywords that will appear repeatedly in this paper and are critical for understanding
the central idea of the paper. Firstly, an International Organisation is a form of institution that refers to
a formal system of rules and objectives, a rationalized administrative instrument (Selznick 1957: 8)
and which has a formal technical and material organisation (Duverger 1972:

Bilingualism Is Harmful And Interferes With Healthy...
Bilingualism, or an ability to use at least two languages (American Speech Language Hearing
Association, 2004), has been studied for decades. A quick literature search will reveal that research on
this topic goes back as far as the 1800s. This is hardly surprising considering that at least half of the
world s population is bilingual (Grosjean, 2010, p. 13), with some European countries reaching rates
as high as 99 percent (European Commission, 2006, p. 3). Interestingly enough, until relatively
recently it was believed that exposure to multiple languages at home was to blame for producing
mental retardation as measured by intelligence tests (Goodenough, 1926, p. 393). The assumption that
bilingualism is harmful and interferes with healthy development has been since debunked by research
findings indicating exposure to two languages from birth enhances cognitive function (Bialystok,
Craik, Luk, 2012). Although similar misguided perceptions have not vanished completely from our
society and many educators and clinical practitioners continue to advise parents against exposing their
children to multiple languages (Bialystok et al., 2012), bilingualism has become a desired trait in an
increasingly globalized world and an integral part of the educational system in many countries. A
growing body of research supports the idea that speaking multiple languages results in several
benefits. Bilingualism has been shown to enhance mental flexibility, generally understood as the

Foolology Ishmael Reed Summary
What is Ishmael Reed s message in Foolology In this article ¨Foolology¨ the author s message is
before you can spot the fool in others you must get rid of the fool in yourself. This is important
because the author is showing how you should spot the fool in yourself before you spot the fool in
others, and sometimes it is hard to find the biggest fool you or your friend that is a fool, you can tell a
fool by it s big mouth. In this article the authors message is important because in this article it explains
in lines 13 16 how after he eats, his friends eat. He is a fool and his friends are fools but it s not easy to
spot the biggest fool him or his friends. Another important part in this article is the ¨First Moral¨ line

balance to buy eight thousand pies, tunics, ballet slippers with bells and a mail order lake in the
middle of the desert for splash parties. The author is explaining how you can get fooled and also what

The Relationship Of Rainer Wilhelm Rilke And Friedrich...
We could hardly argue that there has ever been a more controversial and revolutionary philosopher
than Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche. His ideas, which were more often than not found to attack the
established pillars of traditional philosophy, have been a massive influence to dozens of philosophers,
writers, artists, intellectuals and even scientists, such as the father of modern psychology, Sigmund
Freud. And although he has influenced generations after him, inspired thinkers such as Heidegger,
Camus, Sartre, Foucault and so on, we must not forget about his influence on his contemporaries, such
as the Bohemian Austrian poet Rainer Maria Rilke.
The two men, Rainer Maria Rilke and Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche, the poet philosopher and the
philosopher poet were contemporaries. Friedrich Nietzsche was born was born in 1844 and died in
1900, Rilke was born 1875 and died in 1926. Apart from being just contemporaries Nietzsche and
Rilke had another common point in their lives. The same woman Nietzsche fell in love with and was
rejected by was, and later wrote a book on him, was the mistress of Rainer Maria Rilke. The
relationship of either men with Lou Salome is not important in this essay, however it almost
symbolically depicts how close their lives were intertwined. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Introduction The study of Rapp and Chao (2000) aimed to understand the relationship between
appraisals of strain and of gain and psychological wellbeing of family caregivers of dementia patients.
The study addressed the gaps in the literature related to applying caregivers appraisals of strains and
of gains to predict both negative and positive affect on caregivers wellbeing. Thus, Rapp and Chao
(2000) proposed three hypotheses. First, the study hypothesized that the greater caregivers appraise
their role strains, the higher negative affect (NA) they would experience on their psychological
wellbeing and vise versa. Second, the researchers predicted that the relationship between caregivers

The introduction of the study, however, does not explain some concepts well. From the title of the
article, Rapp and Chao (2000) emphasize the scope of the study as caregivers psychological
wellbeing. During the introduction of the article, there is no specific conceptualization of the term
psychological wellbeing , except for a brief mention that there are positive affect and negative affect
related to psychological wellbeing. Likewise, in the third hypothesis, the researchers express an
interest in understanding objective stressors without providing a definition of objective stressors. The
lack of main concept explanation may mislead readers understandings in the next sections. Design and
methods In the method section, Rapp and Chao (2000) present participants and interview procedures,
measurement, and statistical procedures. Notably, the researchers did not explicitly explain their study
design. No information about the design and the duration of the research project was noted. Regarding
participants and recruitment procedure, the article proposes that 65 primary caregivers were recruited
from three community dwellings. Among them, 27 caregivers were from a university affiliated
dementia clinic, 25 from a local Alzheimer s association, and 13 from the community. The inclusion
criteria show that family caregivers who provide daily living assistance or instruction to an older

The Year I Would Not Say 2003
I would not say 2003 was my brightest year. Actually, I do not think I had that yet but it was the year I
started to notice how terrible the public school system in the city of Saint Louis could be. Not to say
every teacher didn t care but, it was something special about the teachers I encountered in this year. A
certain I don t care attitude that they gave off. This was never more apparent than in my 6th grade
homeroom class at Froebel elementary.
My homeroom teacher, Mr. Harris, a six foot tall elderly man stood up from the faded brown chair
pointing his wrinkled index finger at every single word on the chalk board in front of me and the tired
class. His greyish black mustache slowly rose from his mouth as he said the goal for the day. Just do
something! he shouted as he pointed at the board. He always had an attitude when he was speaking to
the class for some reason. His wrinkled Blue dress shirt and dark brown pants was a perfect
representation of his attitude, bland. I know you all are going to sleep and laugh through the whole
day. So do the other teachers a favor and don t snore loud. He said turning his face to us. His glasses
looked as old as he was. The black paint on them began to chip showing the hidden metal frame as the
light from the ceiling shined down on his wrinkled brown face. He rarely smiled but today he chose to
because it was a special day and boy was it pleasant . His teeth were yellow and I could smell his
breath from the middle of

Civilized, Sense And Sensibility, By Jane Austen
Enjoyable, civilized Sense and Sensibility was the first and one of Jane Austen s novels; she wrote it
in 1795, but it was not published for 16 years. It was written by a young woman who ostensibly had
little experience of the world although her fiction proves she missed the little that occurred on her
domestic stage and the story reflects that orientation, as a mother and her three daughters wait
passively while all the interesting men in the vicinity disappear on unexplained missions to London.
In a modern story, the women would have demanded explanations. What gives Sense and Sensibility
its tension and mystery are that the characters rarely say what they mean. There is great gossip within
the women s sphere, but with men. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Edward leaves suddenly for London. The next man to appear is Col. Brandon, played by that
indispensable Alan Rickman. He is attracted to Marianne, but before he can act, she is smitten by the
dashing Willoughby (Greg Wise), who rescues her from a mishap and charms her off her feet. No
sooner have these men appeared when they, too, are called away to London although not before Col.
Brandon has suggested, almost by osmosis, that he knows something unspeakable about his rival
Willoughby.
His secret is the sort of thing that would not be a secret long in the modern age, but in Austen s time,
such things were not spoken of, and Brandon might even allow Marianne to make a disastrous
marriage rather than tell her what her maidenly ears should never hear. This maddening, intriguing
inability to simply blurt out the truth is indispensable to 19th century fiction, and I find it enormously
satisfying. Better the character who leaves us to guess at unspeakable depths than one who bores us
with confessional psychobabble.
The men s departure to London leaves the three daughters and their mother facing an indefinite future
in their sewing circle. So, when a kindly relative proposes a visit to London, they seize upon it with
desperation, and it is there that secrets are revealed and alliances are smashed or formed. The
screenplay, adapted from Austen by Emma Thompson, takes wicked delight

Huey P Newton s Theory Of Intercommunalism
Founder of the BPP, Huey P. Newton, developed the theory of intercommunalism that created a new
understanding of American capitalism that had essentially reached the point where there no longer
existed nations. What existed was a world divided into oppressed and liberated communities, linked
by common causes that united them across national boundaries against a common enemy: the U.S.
empire. Newton further brought the fight against capitalism and its associated injuries into the global
context.
The BPP s move advocating international revolution did not bide well with the US government. Active
discourse between BPP leaders and foreign enemies of the United States were feared. The power of

The role of black women was often relegated to menial tasks. However, the vital role that women
played in black radicalism cannot be denied. Had women been understood beyond threats to black
manhood, their roles as leaders could have taken black self determination further. Their lack of
leadership played a part in the decline of organizations such as the BPP. Black female socialists
developed the triple oppression theory. Black women simultaneously faced gender, racial, and sexual
oppression. The very essence of their being embodied radicalism because their freedoms would mean
that all oppressed people would be granted freedom. Their efforts shined amongst the Alabama

Essay On Bellamy s
What consumer thinks about Bellamy s organic company?
The Australian company Bellamy s organic formula has huge demand as per various news articles and

reasonable and also known to be the best in quality. These two factors have made Bellamy s, the most

against the company regarding the quality of the product supplied, the price at which the product

Due to the ongoing scarcity for baby formula, there have been several issues the company had to deal
with. One of the major concerns is the retailers. Bellamy s Organic realized that its retailers were

In The Mood For Love Film Analysis
Kar Wai s film, In The Mood For Love, is a Chinese melodrama, set in Hong Kong, during 1962. This
film is not a traditional romantic drama, but rather it shows the irony of love, which connects to a
larger audience. Throughout this film, there are many unique camera shots, such as using a mirror to
be dramatic, but mysterious. This can also be said for the long shot scenes in the apartment building
that both of the main characters, Mrs. Chan and Mr. Chow live with their respected partners. Within
the entire film, there are many scenes where a person is seen, but their face remains anonymous. There
are countless shots that give off a mysterious tone through the mise en scène, from having the camera
behind a dirty window, to only showing a person s back.
As the sequence begins, in Shot 1, the audience sees what looks to be a lamp with trees on it in the
foreground, while a buzzing noise is ringing in the background. As the audience, we have no
knowledge as to what this symbolizes. Within a few seconds of the lamp being on screen, there is a cut
to a new camera, Shot 2, showing a door with a small window in it. Through this window we see the
back of a woman walking to open her door. Another camera swap, and the audience have now seen
Mrs. Chan s face, with a dark background behind her. She is wearing a one piece outfit, which looks to
be inspired by the 1960s as it is very colorful. There are stripes of red, blue, yellow, green, and even
brown travelling all the way up to the top of her neck. Her hair looks to be very proper, and elegant
looking for Hong Kong in 1962, when women were abiding the standards of couples and proper
decorum of women, which was the era this movie was shot to look like. There is then a conversation
between Mrs. Chan and another woman, whose face we do not see throughout the whole conversation.
Shot 3 is one continuous shot throughout the entire almost forty second long conversation between
Mrs. Chan and the mysterious woman. After the woman declined to chat with Mrs. Chan, there is
another cut, Shot 4, where the camera is pointed towards Mrs. Chan, who is facing the door which was
just previously shut in her face. For about five seconds there is no sound and very little movement as

Midsummer Night Dream Creative Response Essay
The creative response I have written is a modern parody adaption of act two, scene two and act three,
scene two. The theme I have focused on is the complexities of love and the motif of love out of
balance which is portrayed throughout the play. I have specifically chosen these scenes to focus on the
romantic entanglement between Hermia, Helena, Lysander and Demetrius. In these scenes Puck uses a
magical love potion to create disturbance and chaos amongst these characters romances.
My creative response adapts act two and three scenes two by modernizing the play so that these
couples each live in their own house on the same street. I have designed the creative response so that
the only way these couples communicate with each other is through the use of letters. This will mean
that they never physical see each other during the adaption. I have also introduced a mailman that
represents Puck who acts as the mechanics of the play. Since all the characters never see each other in
the adaption, I was able to create disturbance and chaos in the romances by using Puck to make the
letters appear as if they were written by a different character. The difference between the original
Midsummers Night Dream and my adaption is that Puck places the love potion accidently in the
original, whereas in my adaption Puck, for whom is now the leading character, intentional gives the
letters to the wrong address and create confusion that satisfies his entertainment needs. My adaption is

The University Of Toledo Levis Leadership Program
The University of Toledo Levis Leadership program prides itself with creating leaders. The program
focuses on giving students with leadership potential the knowledge, skills, and tools to become leaders
not only on campus but in their future careers. For me, the proof of this method of producing
leadership is shown by the upperclassmen in the program. As a freshman, the upperclassmen are my
role models, and I rely on them to set an example of what I can do with my developing leadership.
When I met with my LUT mentor, Emma Diesing, earlier in the semester, she set an incredibly high
standard for leadership. She is so inspiring because she is only a sophomore and has already achieved
so much at the University of Toledo. So when it came to choosing a student leader on campus to
interview, I knew she was absolutely the right person to ask. Each person has their own leadership
style. For Emma, she places communication and hands on opportunities at the top of her list. It was
clear during her interview that she enjoys being involved with other people by leading activities
through instruction. She described being very easy going when leading, only becoming very deliberate
with her leadership if others are not respecting her or the task at hand. For me, on the other hand, I
think I have a bit of a different leadership style. I think I lead more by example than through
instruction. I would rather volunteer and contribute work to my group than communicate. I tend to be
very serious

Socrates Views On Plato s Dialogue
In Plato s dialogue Crito, Socrates is awaiting his execution in prison when his friend Crito comes to
convince him to escape. Socrates argues against Crito with his belief being that escaping from prison
would by an unjust act. It is Socrates belief that you should never commit an injustice act for any
reason, and that it is in your best interest to act justly. In the arguments presented in Crito, we see
Socrates belief as underlying factor and recurring theme. Crito goes to see Socrates and starts by
letting him know that he cares about him, then proceeds to spew out all of his arguments. The first
argument brought up was that he will ruin the reputation of his friends and family. His reasoning being
that if people saw Crito and knew that he let Socrates die, he would be seen as a selfish and avaricious
person. Secondly, Crito explains that he already bribed the guards and that he will set Socrates up in
another city. There he can live freely, keep philosophizing, and be with friends and family. He then
argues that Socrates would be self contradicting by accepting his sentence instead of putting up a
heroic fight for what he believes in. Crito claims that this would be an act of cowardice, the opposite
of what Socrates had always taught. The next point presented is that he would be bad for abandoning
his children. His last argument is that it would be morally wrong for Socrates to accept and cooperate
with Athenian law if the Athenian law wrongfully accused him and

William Shakespeare s Sonnet 18
Sonnet 18 may be the most famous lyric poem in English. Among Shakespeare s works, only lines
such as To be or not to be and Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? are better known. On the
surface, this poem is a statement of praise about the beauty of the speaker s love interest, but when
you look closely you can see how the speaker is actually praising himself for his skills. This is also
Shakespeare s first poem in the sonnets that doesn t explicitly encourage having children. The
procreation sequence of the first seventeen sonnets ended with the speaker s realization that the they
might not need children to preserve beauty, but he could also live in my rhyme as he says in Sonnet
17. Sonnet 18 is the first poem in which the speaker first attempts to preserve the beauty for all time,
and is also a perfect example of classic Shakespearean style of writing and usage of metaphors. This
poem uses several different metaphors, personification, multiple themes, and follows a traditional
form to get across the point to the reader that the speaker is a well skilled and masterful poet. Four
strong themes in this poem are change, fate, love, and eternity. At first glance, the poem appears as if
the speaker is praising and complimenting his lover, but through closer examination you can see that
the speakers main focus is showing how good of a writer he is. Images and symbols of time, decay,
and eternity are in this poem because whether or not we think the lover is

The Impact Of Senior Management On Corporate Governance
(1) All Powerful CEO
Back in 1985, a venture capital firm Hambrecht Quist invested in MiniScribe, and Mr. Wile was
selected as the chairman. After that, he eliminated one fifth of MiniScribe s work force and overhauled
the company from top to bottom. In addition, he held his divisional managers accountable, which
show us that Mr. Wile had unending control to the company. Although the Board later was
restructured to include new members, they either worked for or were affiliated with Mr. Wile and the
Hambrecht Quist group. All of these phenomenon indicate a powerful CEO, which is harmful for a
company s healthy operation. Further, during his tenure, he usually managed MiniScribe from
California, which gave him seldom chances to oversee real company operation. Besides, since he held
several similar positions at the same time, he can t devote all his energy to MiniScribe. Evidences in
several forms have suggest that senior management was involved in fraudulent financial reporting
activities, which indicates a failure of corporate governance.
(2) Weak System of Management Control
Since Mr. Wile is a powerful CEO, the management style of MiniScribe is very personal. As the
reason of frequent reorganization and reassignment, the senior managers often did not have the
necessary experience or educational training to perform their jobs. This can be consider as one
indicator of weak control because the decisions from these managers who did not have the capacity to

Edgar Allan Poe is perhaps the best known American Romantic who worked in the Gothic mode. His
stories explore the darker side of the Romantic imagination, dealing with the grotesque, the
supernatural, and the horrifying. He defined the form of the American short story. As one might
expect, Poe himself eschewed conventional morality, which he believed stems from man s attempts to
dictate the purposes of God. Poe saw God more as process than purpose. He believed that moralists
derive their beliefs, and thus, the resultant behavioral patterns, from a priori knowledge. In Eureka, we
find that Poe shunned such artifices of mind, systems which, he professed, have no basis in reality. Yet
Poe employed in his writing the diction of the moral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

IBM introduces the 701 the following year. It is the first commercially successful computer. In 1956

Unions And The Freedom Of Collective Bargaining
Right to Work provides no rights and no work ...It s purpose is to destroy labor unions and the
freedom of collective bargaining (Martin Luther King). The roots of labor unions in the United States
dates back to the late 18th Century, when skilled craftsmen joined forces against low product prices.
Since then, labor unions have been practical to both the economy and the people which it employes. It
has allowed laborers to make great strides in the protection of rights in their work. It has also
increased wages, causing a strengthening of the middle class. Because of the benefits to the workers,
an increase in wages, making a stronger middle class , and its historic success for the economy in
struggling times , unionization is generally a better option than non unionization. The essential reason
why unions exist is for the benefits of its workers. Throughout the history of the United States labor
unions have been created to protect the working class from harsh conditions and low wages. For
example, the American Federation of Labor (AFL) formed to lobby to raise the workers wages, and
improve the conditions in which they worked. But more important in the long run was the permanent
stamp that the AFL made on the American labour movement...and the objective of trade unionism
became exclusively the incremental achievement of higher wages and better working conditions
(Organized Labour). During and after the Industrial Revolution, as portrayed in The Jungle

History
The Federal Reserve System In 1791, U.S. Congress established the First Bank of the United States,
headquartered in Philadelphia in response to the rapidly inflated paper money continentals . However,
Congress refused to renew the bank s charter in 1811 because many Americans then were
uncomfortable with the idea of a large and powerful bank. By 1816, the idea of a central bank was
once again aroused; by a narrow margin, Congress agreed to charter the Second Bank of the United
States. But the Second Bank s charter expired in 1836 without a renewal neither. During the Free Bank
Era (1836 1865), risks of financial crisis accumulated. In 1893, a banking panic triggered the worst
depression the United States had ever seen, and in 1907, a bout of speculation on Wall Street ended in
failure, triggering a particularly severe banking panic. On December 23, 1913, President Woodrow

Mary Queen Of Scots Summary

Mary Queen of Scots
The book I chose to read was Mary Queen of Scots. The author of this book is Sally Stepanek. The
book was published by Chelsea House Publishers in 1987 with a total of 110 pages. The book is about
Mary Stuart and her life as a queen and also as a prisoner. It tells of the hardships she had went
through and the good times too.
To me the book mostly over sees the hardships Mary had went through. Like having to leave her home
land when she was an infant to having her throne taken away by her own son that disowned her. She
had three husbands that all left her as a widow. While the book is about Mary s life it also tells a lot
about others too. I did not like the book because I felt as though it was repetitive in some parts and
also it was not as interesting as I thought it was going to be. I do believe that if people besides me that
were interested in it, it would be very successful book, but to me I would not purchase or read this
book again.
Second of all, the book is all about Mary s life from birth to her unfair death. The author often tells
about the fighting between the Protestants and Catholic Church. It also tells of her three husbands and
her many lovers threw her life. The important conclusions is that Mary was Queen of France and
Queen of Scots, also how she was tried for treason and the murder of her second husband Lord
Darnley. Also there was a battle over the infant Queen with

A Formal Definition Of Franchising
Introduction and Overview
In the business world there are many routes businesses can take to try to ensure a successful venture.
There are sole proprietorships, partnerships, limited liability partnerships, corporations, limited
liability corporations, S corporations, and then there is franchising. A formal definition of franchising
is a continuing relationship in which a franchisor provides a licensed privilege to the franchisee to do
business and offers assistance in organizing, training, merchandising, marketing and managing in
return for a monetary consideration (Franchising, n.d.). In simpler terms, franchising is paying
someone for their business, marketing, and operations strategy, as well as the use of their name
(Obringer, n.d.). Discussed next are the important roles in franchising.
Two Roles of Franchising
There are two important roles in franchising are the franchisor and the franchisee. The franchisor is
the owner of the brand, product, or service, while the franchisee is the party that pays for the right to
use the brand, product, or service. Usually the franchisee pays a one time franchisee fee plus a
percentage of sales revenue as royalty (What is..., n.d.). Unfortunately the franchisee fee does not
include all of the necessary start up costs. There are many other fees and costs to be expected in order
to successfully start up a franchise. These costs are worth it to franchisees though, because once the
fees are paid they gain immediate name recognition,

Causes of shifts in labor demand curve
Causes of shifts in labor demand curve The labor demand curve shows the value of the marginal
product of labor as a function of quantity of labor hired. Using this fact, it can be seen that the
following changes shift the labor demand curve: The output price. When output price rises, the labor
demand curve shifts to the right { more labor is demanded at each wage. When output price falls, less
labor is demanded at each wage. Technological change causes the MPL function to change, generally
to in crease at each level of L. This shifts the labor demand curve to the right. For instance between
1960 and 2000 the average hourly output produced by US workers rose by 140 percent. However, it is
also possible for technological change ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The wage falls from W1 to W2. As the wage falls, it becomes pro table for rms to hire more
workers. As the rm hires more workers, the marginal product of a worker decreases, so value of
marginal product decreases. In the new equilibrium wage equals value of marginal product of labor
and both are lower than before. Example from Israel: How a shift in labor supply changes the
equilibrium wages. In the 1980s many Palestinians commuted from their homes in West Bank or Gaza
strip to work in Israel (often in construction, agriculture). In 1988, due to Intifada, Israel imposed
curfews, checked work permits more thoroughly, ban of Palestinians staying overnight in Israel
enforced. Number of Palestinians with jobs in Israel decreased by half. Palestinians who kept jobs in
Israel had 50 percent wage increases. With fewer Palestinian workers in Israel, each worker s value of
marginal product was higher. Shifts in labor demand Suppose apples become more popular ! demand
shifts to the right ! price of apples rises. The marginal product of labor (MPL) has not changed. But
value of marginal product of labor (P MPL) has increased. 3 The higher price of apples makes it
pro table to hire more apple pickers. Demand for labor shifts to the right. Equilibrium wage rises and
equilibrium employment rises, as in the graph: D1 D2 L1 L2 W1 W2 S Prosperity of rms in an

Death versus Death but the Points go to Dickinson
Emily Dickinson was born in a time when not many women involved themselves in poetry or any
form of intellectual capability. Despite this, she was such a wonderful poet that her poetry rivaled
Whitman s. Of course, she was never able to rival him because she chose not to publish her poetry in
her lifetime. Once the world saw her poetry, however, it was shocked by the literary genius who had
lived in seclusion for a good majority of her life. Her style is very distinguishable through it is
excessive but purposeful punctuation and 8 6 8 6 rhyme that matches church songs and patriotic songs
like Amazing Grace and Glory to God on High. The church influenced more than her style, however,
as much of her subject matter pertains to her unorthodox beliefs. Other subjects include hope and
sometimes humor, but her ideas on death are both very interesting and complicated. Dickinson does
not make light of death, but she uses her poems as her diary to record her thoughts on death. She
moves rapidly from thinking death is passive to thinking it is an amazing honor, but she also thinks of
it in a terrified sense. Emily Dickinson s views on death are uncertain, she varies between finding
death casual, positive and romantic, and negative in a series of several poems
Many people may fear death, but Emily Dickinson sometimes expressed in her

Creon Is The Tragic Hero In SophoclesAntigone
Since a tragic hero is a literary character who makes a judgment error that inevitably leads to his/her
own destruction, then Creon is the tragic hero in the play Antigone. In the play Antigone , Sophocles
at first portrays Creon as a just leader. He has good, rational reasons for his laws and punishments. By
the end of the play Creon s hubris, or excessive pride, has taken over him, which leads to his demise
This started by two brothers leading opposite sides in Thebes civil war died fighting each other for the
throne. Which were Polyneices and Eteocles. Creon, the new ruler of Thebes, has decided that
Eteocles will be honored and his body will be sanctified by holy rites, and will be buried, and
Polyneices will be in public shame and will left unburied. Antigone (Eteocles /Polyneices sister) wants
to bury Polyneices body. But, Creon has stated if anybody was to due so he would have them killed.
First off, his strong sense of leadership which catches up with him in the end causing destruction.
Creon orders the guards to take Antigone away not caring for his son s feelings, since she is his
fiancée. Creon feels the law should stand despite the fact that Antigone was his niece or how moral her
act was. Bring her [Antigone] out! Let her die before his eyes... (Scene 3, 130). This quotes shows that
Creon took his position as king seriously to the point where in he was willing to sacrifice the feelings
of his own son. He was willing to be the cause of son s destruction just to prove that he is the king and
always right. I will go... I buried her, I will set her free (scene 5, 102,104). Not only does this quote
show leadership but also stubbornness he was risking his relationship with his son to prove that he was
the leader of Thebes. Creon says another quote which shows his loyalty to his kingdom, I call to God
to witness that if I saw my country headed for ruin, I should not be afraid to speak out plainly,
(Sophocles, scene 1,24 26). Creon s tragic flaw, is he was hubris, which is another reason that causes
his downfall. Creon will not listen to anyone. He is stubborn and his pride is so great, he can not bring
himself to acknowledge that he could ever wrong. When Creon is talking to Teiresias, he

Can we not also add a cloned child to the roster and still be ignorant of their origin? As unnerving as it

you or me but can we say that the child is any less human from extra physical loss? Whether or not a

human person. The problem of identity sometimes arises with identical twins in that we many times
ascertain them to be the same person due merely to their often indistinguishable appearance.
Experience however tells us that even though they have the same genetic profile they constitute
discrete identities. A clone, against our intuitions, would not have the same identity as the one from

Late 19th Century Germany was a time seemingly stuck between two worlds the past and the future
and this period s amount of rapid growth and change ultimately resulted in the decimation of German
society as was known. This collapse allowed a river of hatred to flow in its place, known as Anti
Semitism. Based on the primary and secondary sources discussed in and out of class, I believe there
are three main reasons why such a horrendous belief system infiltrated 19th Century German society:
conflict between urban and rural populations, rapid freedoms granted to the media, and the ignorance
of German politicians who unknowingly or not, pushed political extremists agendas. Late 19th
Century Germany was an ever changing political, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This estrangement left a disconnect in society that spread just from being urban or rural it expanded all
the way to the government and society as a whole. Often times, people associate government with city
as both are often far away and unaware of rural life and its needs. This caused a rift between the
people and the government as the people implementing laws and decrees have no true knowledge of
how it is affecting the people who are not directly at arms reach . This is most prominent in The
Butcher s Tale where the author describes the government s attempts to bring in troops and
investigators to quell the ongoing anti Semitic mob and in turn they are easily dispelled. The people in
small towns around the German Empire like Konitz were aware that the government didn t understand
their needs. This ultimately left them susceptible to the media that they learned their news from.
Media was just as ever changing as the society it was taking place within. During this time, media was
just beginning to become a nationwide phenomenon. In May of 1874, the Imperial Press Law decreed
that there would be freedom of the press. This opened the door not only for more forms of media to be
readily available, but also for media to now be interwoven with politics. Newspapers

A Clockwork Orange Dystopia
In today s society, there is an evil that hides in the minds of rulers, governments even everyday people.
This evil lies in the crimes committed by thousands of people each year, the corruption of
governments, and the suffering of innocent people. The laws and regulations that we live by today are
put in place in order to prevent crime from encompassing everything people hold dear to stop the bad
people. In the story of A Clockwork Orange the narrator, Alex, gives us a criminal s view of the world.
Throughout the course of three years, Alex takes part in numerous robberies, murders and rapes
people of all ages. In his mind, the disturbing acts he commits fill him with satisfaction and pleasure.
When reading this novel through his eyes, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By Rebecca Solnit, I have come to realize that my modern day life is not far from that of Alex s.
Throughout the process of reading this book I was shocked many times by the everyday acts of evil
against innocent people. It is sad to know that they are so common in our world today. Acts such as
robbery, rape and murder happen every day, and they don t always just take one thing from the
victims. As Alex often shows us, during the process of evil acts the victims are dehumanized and
beaten. The laws and regulations put in place today are supposed to protect people from ever
experiencing these horrid acts, yet even in Alex s story, little justice is done for those who suffer.
Society brings out the best and worst in people and often puts people in desperate situations, allowing
the darkness to come forth. People have become selfish, cold and heart less without a care for the
people around them. Our society and government today have created monsters and have done so
without giving any type of cure or proper treatment to bring them back into the light. The darkness
and evil that had consumed Alex is the same as the darkness that is in our very world today. The world
of darkness is breaking through the fake seams of society that present a false picture of happiness, and
if our government and people all over the world do not make a change, it will consume us

Examples Of Cannibalism In The Odyssey
Many people think that one eats anothers flesh because they are crazy, but really sometimes people are
forced to do it for survival. In the Odyssey a cyclops named Polyphemus purposefully ate some men
of Odysseus s army because he wanted them all dead. In 1884, the starving crew of the ill fated yacht
Mignonette sacrificed a man in order to survive. The crew of 4 men turned to cannibalism for survival,
not because they wanted to, but because they had to. Cannibalism is something no human being
should resort to, but these four men on the Mignonette Yacht had no other choice than to go in that
direction.
On 19 of May 1884 four men set sail from Southampton in a small yacht, already knowing the dangers
of the ocean, but clueless of what a lasting

The Role of Research and Statistics in the Field of Psychology
Abstract
Research and statistics are essential elements within the field of Psychology. Through the evolution of
technology, the task of conducting adequate research and statistics methods have become abundant in
methodology. Because of such, research collection and experimentation approaches of researchers and
Psychologists, greatly vary in specificity. However, one method reigns true and consistent, and that is
the Scientific Method; of which will be further explored. This paper will discuss and make sense of
the roles in which both research and statistics play in the field of Psychology, and the procedures in
which such methods are conducted will be defined. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The phrase method of scholars is an alternative title for the scientific method, for it is the absolute best
set of methods in finding the truth, and of course the scholars would know. It has often been said that
the greatest discovery in science was the discovery of the scientific method of discovery : (Feibleman,
1972). This method is an investigation in which a problem is initially identified. With this,
observations, experiments, and other relevant data (provided by research) are then used to create or
test hypotheses that lead to conclusions about the original problem. The steps involved in this process
include: 1) Forming a testable hypothesis. 2) Devising a research plan and method of application. 3)
Collecting data and researching. 4) Analyzing the data and reaching possible conclusions about the
study. 5) Report findings. This research can be characterized as an activity of creative work that is
carried out in a systematic way in an effort to increase knowledge and truth. In the field of psychology,
this refers to the knowledge of the human mind, human behavior, cultures, and societies. In order to
fully understand how researchers, scientists, psychologists, scholars, and students alike reach such
conclusions, one needs to recognize the importance of the research process and measures that are
applied when conducting the various types of psychological research. With this knowledge,

Liquidity Ratios and Activity Ratios
2.0 FINANCIAL RATIOS
2 Liquidity Ratios
Liquidity ratios measure a business capacity to pay its debts as they come due. It also measures the
cooperative s ability to meet short term obligations. Liquidity refers to the solvency of the firm s
overall financial position the ease with which it can pay its bills. Because a common precursor to
financial distress and bankruptcy is low or declining liquidity, these ratios can provide early signs of
cash flow problems and impending business failure. The two basic measures of liquidity are the
current ratio and the quick (acid test) ratio (Gitman, 2009).
1. Current ratios
The current ratio is current assets divided by current liabilities. The current ratio ... Show more content

No ratio, in fact, is especially meaningful without knowledge of the business from which it originates.
For example, a declining quick ratio with a stable current ratio may indicate that a company has built
up too much inventory, but it could also suggest that the company has greatly improved its collection
system. Quick ratio is expressed as follows:
Quick Ratio = Current assets Inventory / Current Liabilities Figure 2.2 explained the company s quick
ratio has been improving from year on year from 0.51 in 2007 to 0.63 in 2008 and then increased to
0.69 in 2009. Quick ratio for 2009 is higher compared to the industry average quick ratio that is 0.65.
Even though it has shown incremental improvement of their quick ratio and surpassed the industry
average of 0.65 acid tests, the firm would have to sell inventory to meet its obligations. Comparing
quick ratios over an extended period of time can be used to signal developing trends in a company.
While modest declines in the quick ratio do not automatically spell trouble, uncovering the reasons for
changes can help to find ways to nip potential problems in the bud. As for PJV s case, this is a good
sign that the company progress steadily in improving its quick ratio over 3 years period in which may
be resulting from its reduced inventories in 2009. The company s quick ratio can further be increased
to a satisfactory level (at least 1:1) by improving its collection system and policy. Like the

Theme Of The Arundel Tomb By Philip Larkins
The Arundel Tomb is a poem warren by Philip Larkins, published in 1964 alongside other poems
entitled the Whitsun wedding. The poem consists of several stylistic devices and illustrates a tomb for
two married people in love. Individuals in love are members of the Arundel loyal family buried in the
cathedral. Notably, the stylistic devices in the poem are aimed at developing a sustainable and a
sensitive explanation of the scripture, which is followed by a gloomy and a sardonic reflection aimed
at revealing the real situation and truthfully. The poem discusses the relationships between two
relationships found in the tomb to illustrate lies that are developed from love and how the relationship
is portrayed in a false manner. On the image, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first stanza, the first line it states that their faces blurred to explain and give the reader an
oversight of the age of the tomb. The period in which the couple lived together and how they
expressed love towards each other is revealed through corrosion of stone. Corroded stones are also
used as a metaphor to show how their love and feeling had eroded just as the tombstone. The couple
lay on each other s side to denote equality between the couple, with their faces being blurred and have
become unrecognizable as the time passes, striping off their identical nature. The attire is also barely
visible where the woman is wearing stiff folded dress while the man wears a jointed armor suit. Two
little dog s layat their feet to represent loyalty, faithfulness and companionship which are the main
theme that the tomb attempt to illustrate about the couple. The tomb is barely plain and it s hard to
catch the attention of the observer, unless he/ she focus on the duke left hand holding the right hand of
the right hand glove. The right hand holds the right hand of the princess to show the sign of eternal
faithfulness and love even after their death. The author of the poem is astonished by the artwork that
displays the tender of affection and eternal love as long as their tomb, live love with continue to
endure between them (Larkin 158) The author of the poem points out that the aim of the

Introduction. Circadian Or Diurnal Rhythms Are Metabolic
Introduction
Circadian or diurnal rhythms are metabolic or behavioural rhythms, in animals and plants, that occur
usually within a 24 hour cycle (Abercrombie et al. 1990). The changes in body temperature over the
course of a day (24 hours), or in the case of females, over a month, is one of the most documented
human circadian rhythms. Body temperature as well as circadian rhythms in humans is controlled by
the hypothalamus, a small region of the brain that forms part of the autonomic nervous system. The
hypothalamus synthesizes neurohormones, which are used to control the secretions of other hormones
by the pituitary gland, which is linked to the hypothalamus.
It is well known that long distance flights have many effects on the ... Show more content on

In fact it is the hormone, melatonin which is released by the pineal gland that is responsible for
controlling the sleep cycle (Society for Endocrinology, 2015). Melatonin production increases as it
becomes dark and is supressed to a degree by light. Melatonin causes drowsiness by lowering the core
body temperature. It has been found that the hormone is also released when one is stressed which can
occur while in flight. The body reacts to the untimely release of melatonin and disrupts the circadian
rhythm, which raises the body temperature and lowers it at the wrong time of day.
It naturally will take time for the bodies internal clock to readjust to a normal rhythm, and, if
travelling to a different time zone, the body has to adjust to a different day night cycle.
Aims
The main aim of this study and experiment is to see if all long haul flights, irrespective of direction,
result in a degree of jet lag as reflected by one of the affected circadian rhythms, namely body
temperature.
The study aims to determine whether the hypothesis is correct. An additional aim is to see if average
body temperature is lowered during the flight and fluctuates less than in a normal 24 hour cycle.
Should there be enough suitable participants, another aim is to see whether people over the age of 30
take longer to return to their normal body temperature circadian rhythm than those under the age of
30.
Research Hypothesis
It takes between 36 and 48 hours to return to a

Driverless cars are equipped with an array of detection technologies and advanced software that
ensure them to cope with major challenges on a city road. An experiment shows that vehicle setup and
software together made the testing driverless car able to drive together with other vehicles and manage
different road conditions on public urban roads and freeways. [1] The vehicle setup involves various
sensors that can capture images of the surroundings and extract detailed information such as traffic
lights and road markings. 3D cameras are mounted around the exterior of the driverless car, having a

  • 2. Compare And Contrast Essay On The Hobbit The Hobbit was a novel which revolved around the Lord of the Rings trilogy. J. R. R. Tolkien wrote this book as an aid to his PTSD. This novel was loosely based on the Medieval Times, from the Anglo Saxon and Scandinavian works. The narrative followed around a group of people on a quest to take the treasure of Smaug. There are many important components of each story. These include its plot, themes, or setting. In this essay, I will be explaining the similarities and differences between the three races of The Hobbit. The first topic of discussion will be the comparison of the race s physical traits. These physical traits allow a reader to visualize characters. It also gives the reader to make their own judgements of a race based on appearance. In the terms of height, the hobbits and dwarves are shorter than an average human. The hobbits ... wear no shoes... thick warm brown hair like the stuff on their heads... (2, Ch. 1) This race also loves peace, quiet, and a good tilled earth. The dwarves, however, are stocky and tough. An average dwarf grows a long bread on their faces and wear heavy cloaks. Verification for this account is, It was a dwarf with a blue beard tucked into a golden belt, very bright eyes under his dark green hood. (7, Ch. 1). They are very strong from their continuous work in the mines. Dwarves worked in mines and caverns to acquire the many gems needed for their crafting. The dwarves also had experience in fighting wars with other races. Elves are a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His missionary journey s as God s representative has had great influence on my own theological thought and preservation of my faith. The book of Colossians is filled with stories of redemption, knowledge and the power of prayer. The Apostle s extraordinary life from darkness to light can only be attributed to the Grace of the Lord. Paul s letter to the Church in Colossae is powerful as well as informative, it not only addresses the specific problem of heresy, but Paul is stating himself to be specifically chosen by God to demonstrate the role of intercessory prayer and suffering as demonstrated in Colossians 1:9 14. The immediate task at hand is to provide a theological framework that encompasses the scope of the Apostle Paul and his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Examples Of Absurdity In Waiting For Godot Oxford dictionary defines absurdity as the state or quality of being ridiculous or widely unreasonable and this can be strongly felt in Samuel Beckett s play Waiting for Godot . Actually, this play is well known as the Theater of Absurd due to its totally different genre of drama. The difference in genre is mainly due to the plot, the characters, the incoherence and repetitiveness in the conversations and actions which bring the audience to view this play as a complete change from the traditional type of drama. The choice of characters in Waiting for Godot appear to come from a mad house. The main ones, Vladimir and Estragon seem to be struggling in their life where they have little if no memory of how their days passed by, What did we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my opinion, being spiritually dead is like being a living zombie. Talking about spirituality does not only refers to God but to one s belief. One cannot call it life if he is not free of his actions and thinking. The modern man is running against time, trying to make money to buy happiness. He does not have time to question his existence as the definition of one s existence is somehow formed by the society and its surrounding. A typical example will be where people uses religion as excuses for their actions trying to make as if their religion defines themselves. Samuel Beckett play s Waiting for Godot can be referred as pure absurdity but even nowadays people as still waiting for Godot. They are either waiting for God to come on earth as in the Judaism religion where they are still waiting for the messiah to come and take them to the promise land (Isaiah 2: 4) or waiting for Death to come an deliver them from their struggles. Who is Godot? We have no idea of the existence of this thing or person. Same apply to people s faith. As what is faith? Ii is to have trust in something or someone that one s has never seen. But this is what keep people alive, to have faith in the unknown. Man wants freedom and happiness but one cannot find it by doing nothing. • 6. Lab Report Photosynthesis I. Introduction Photosynthesis is the process by which plants use light to synthesize food from H2O and CO2 within the thylakoid and the stroma of the cells. In order for photosynthesis to occur, light must be present. Light reactions occur within the thylakoids of the chloroplasts by absorbing light and H2O and producing oxygen gas, ATP, or Adenosine triphosphate, and NADPH, or nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate. The oxygen gas is released back into the atmosphere while ATP and NADPH are inputs of the Calvin Cycle within the stroma. The Calvin Cycle uses these two molecules, in addition to carbon dioxide gas, to produce ADP, or Adenosine diphosphate, NADP+, and glucose molecules. Photosynthesis is represented by the following equation: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The leaf with the highest rate of photosynthesis was the darkest leaf, the purple cabbage. The leaf with the lowest rate of photosynthesis was the lightest leaf, the iceberg lettuce. We can conclude that the rate of photosynthesis was much higher in the purple cabbage because darker leaves contain more chloroplasts. Therefore, photosynthesis occurs much more quickly. Notably, these results support the stated hypothesis. An error that might have affected the data as a whole was the fact that the calculated rate of photosynthesis for the iceberg lettuce was negative. In addition to this, a few of the other percentages decreased as time passed. This means that the chloroplasts would have been going through cellular respiration. This inconsistency might have transpired from a mechanical error within the spectrophotometer. The control tubes, the boiled and dark tubes, of all 3 leaves were necessary in order to determine if the chloroplasts were the organelles of the cell that were causing one leaf to photosynthesize quicker than another because it was imperative for the chloroplasts to be exposed to light and temperatures that would not denature them. Therefore, we are able to conclude that the chloroplasts located within the leaves were the organelles that were causing the varying rates of photosynthesis in this ... The world existed in anarchy, a solution was needed to prevent another disastrous war and maintain peace in the future. The solution was the League of Nations that would ensure that there would be no scope for bias and selfish needs of states to expand territories. The creation of the Leagues of Nations was the first step towards what was going to become an integral part of International Society International Organisations in the form as we see them today. With the help of the theory of liberalism, the purpose of this paper is to better understand how International Organisations encouraged international peace and amity. I aim to explain how globalization has made the theory of realism almost redundant, how a liberal theoretical approach is more significant and using this approach to understand why this view made and continues to make International Organisations critical to peace and how they have helped in the past. The paper will focus on the United Nations and Amnesty International as key organisations. The definitions of keywords that will appear repeatedly in this paper and are critical for understanding the central idea of the paper. • 10. Bilingualism Is Harmful And Interferes With Healthy... Bilingualism, or an ability to use at least two languages (American Speech Language Hearing Association, 2004), has been studied for decades. A quick literature search will reveal that research on this topic goes back as far as the 1800s. This is hardly surprising considering that at least half of the world s population is bilingual (Grosjean, 2010, p. 13), with some European countries reaching rates as high as 99 percent (European Commission, 2006, p. 3). Interestingly enough, until relatively recently it was believed that exposure to multiple languages at home was to blame for producing mental retardation as measured by intelligence tests (Goodenough, 1926, p. 393). The assumption that bilingualism is harmful and interferes with healthy development has been since debunked by research findings indicating exposure to two languages from birth enhances cognitive function (Bialystok, Craik, Luk, 2012). Although similar misguided perceptions have not vanished completely from our society and many educators and clinical practitioners continue to advise parents against exposing their children to multiple languages (Bialystok et al., 2012), bilingualism has become a desired trait in an increasingly globalized world and an integral part of the educational system in many countries. A growing body of research supports the idea that speaking multiple languages results in several benefits. Bilingualism has been shown to enhance mental flexibility, generally understood as the ... • 12. The Relationship Of Rainer Wilhelm Rilke And Friedrich... We could hardly argue that there has ever been a more controversial and revolutionary philosopher than Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche. His ideas, which were more often than not found to attack the established pillars of traditional philosophy, have been a massive influence to dozens of philosophers, writers, artists, intellectuals and even scientists, such as the father of modern psychology, Sigmund Freud. And although he has influenced generations after him, inspired thinkers such as Heidegger, Camus, Sartre, Foucault and so on, we must not forget about his influence on his contemporaries, such as the Bohemian Austrian poet Rainer Maria Rilke. The two men, Rainer Maria Rilke and Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche, the poet philosopher and the philosopher poet were contemporaries. Friedrich Nietzsche was born was born in 1844 and died in 1900, Rilke was born 1875 and died in 1926. Apart from being just contemporaries Nietzsche and Rilke had another common point in their lives. Introduction The study of Rapp and Chao (2000) aimed to understand the relationship between appraisals of strain and of gain and psychological wellbeing of family caregivers of dementia patients. The study addressed the gaps in the literature related to applying caregivers appraisals of strains and of gains to predict both negative and positive affect on caregivers wellbeing. Thus, Rapp and Chao (2000) proposed three hypotheses. First, the study hypothesized that the greater caregivers appraise their role strains, the higher negative affect (NA) they would experience on their psychological wellbeing and vise versa. Actually, I do not think I had that yet but it was the year I started to notice how terrible the public school system in the city of Saint Louis could be. Not to say every teacher didn t care but, it was something special about the teachers I encountered in this year. A certain I don t care attitude that they gave off. This was never more apparent than in my 6th grade homeroom class at Froebel elementary. My homeroom teacher, Mr. Harris, a six foot tall elderly man stood up from the faded brown chair pointing his wrinkled index finger at every single word on the chalk board in front of me and the tired class. His greyish black mustache slowly rose from his mouth as he said the goal for the day. Just do something! he shouted as he pointed at the board. He always had an attitude when he was speaking to the class for some reason. His wrinkled Blue dress shirt and dark brown pants was a perfect representation of his attitude, bland. I know you all are going to sleep and laugh through the whole day. So do the other teachers a favor and don t snore loud. He said turning his face to us. His glasses looked as old as he was. The black paint on them began to chip showing the hidden metal frame as the light from the ceiling shined down on his wrinkled brown face. Civilized, Sense And Sensibility, By Jane Austen Enjoyable, civilized Sense and Sensibility was the first and one of Jane Austen s novels; she wrote it in 1795, but it was not published for 16 years. It was written by a young woman who ostensibly had little experience of the world although her fiction proves she missed the little that occurred on her domestic stage and the story reflects that orientation, as a mother and her three daughters wait passively while all the interesting men in the vicinity disappear on unexplained missions to London. In a modern story, the women would have demanded explanations. What gives Sense and Sensibility its tension and mystery are that the characters rarely say what they mean. There is great gossip within the women s sphere, but with men. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Edward leaves suddenly for London. The next man to appear is Col. Brandon, played by that indispensable Alan Rickman. He is attracted to Marianne, but before he can act, she is smitten by the dashing Willoughby (Greg Wise), who rescues her from a mishap and charms her off her feet. No sooner have these men appeared when they, too, are called away to London although not before Col. Brandon has suggested, almost by osmosis, that he knows something unspeakable about his rival Willoughby. His secret is the sort of thing that would not be a secret long in the modern age, but in Austen s time, such things were not spoken of, and Brandon might even allow Marianne to make a disastrous marriage rather than tell her what her maidenly ears should never hear. This maddening, intriguing inability to simply blurt out the truth is indispensable to 19th century fiction, and I find it enormously satisfying. Better the character who leaves us to guess at unspeakable depths than one who bores us with confessional psychobabble. The men s departure to London leaves the three daughters and their mother facing an indefinite future in their sewing circle. Newton, developed the theory of intercommunalism that created a new understanding of American capitalism that had essentially reached the point where there no longer existed nations. What existed was a world divided into oppressed and liberated communities, linked by common causes that united them across national boundaries against a common enemy: the U.S. empire. Newton further brought the fight against capitalism and its associated injuries into the global context. The BPP s move advocating international revolution did not bide well with the US government. There weren t any allegations against the company regarding the quality of the product supplied, the price at which the product retailed or even the company s relations with its customers. Due to the ongoing scarcity for baby formula, there have been several issues the company had to deal with. One of the major concerns is the retailers. • 19. In The Mood For Love Film Analysis Kar Wai s film, In The Mood For Love, is a Chinese melodrama, set in Hong Kong, during 1962. This film is not a traditional romantic drama, but rather it shows the irony of love, which connects to a larger audience. Throughout this film, there are many unique camera shots, such as using a mirror to be dramatic, but mysterious. This can also be said for the long shot scenes in the apartment building that both of the main characters, Mrs. Chan and Mr. Chow live with their respected partners. Within the entire film, there are many scenes where a person is seen, but their face remains anonymous. There are countless shots that give off a mysterious tone through the mise en scène, from having the camera behind a dirty window, to only showing a person s back. As the sequence begins, in Shot 1, the audience sees what looks to be a lamp with trees on it in the foreground, while a buzzing noise is ringing in the background. As the audience, we have no knowledge as to what this symbolizes. Within a few seconds of the lamp being on screen, there is a cut to a new camera, Shot 2, showing a door with a small window in it. Through this window we see the back of a woman walking to open her door. Another camera swap, and the audience have now seen Mrs. Chan s face, with a dark background behind her. She is wearing a one piece outfit, which looks to be inspired by the 1960s as it is very colorful. There are stripes of red, blue, yellow, green, and even brown travelling all the way up to the top of her neck. Her hair looks to be very proper, and elegant looking for Hong Kong in 1962, when women were abiding the standards of couples and proper decorum of women, which was the era this movie was shot to look like. There is then a conversation between Mrs. Chan and another woman, whose face we do not see throughout the whole conversation. Shot 3 is one continuous shot throughout the entire almost forty second long conversation between Mrs. Chan and the mysterious woman. After the woman declined to chat with Mrs. Chan, there is another cut, Shot 4, where the camera is pointed towards Mrs. Chan, who is facing the door which was just previously shut in her face. • 20. Midsummer Night Dream Creative Response Essay The creative response I have written is a modern parody adaption of act two, scene two and act three, scene two. The theme I have focused on is the complexities of love and the motif of love out of balance which is portrayed throughout the play. I have specifically chosen these scenes to focus on the romantic entanglement between Hermia, Helena, Lysander and Demetrius. In these scenes Puck uses a magical love potion to create disturbance and chaos amongst these characters romances. My creative response adapts act two and three scenes two by modernizing the play so that these couples each live in their own house on the same street. I have designed the creative response so that the only way these couples communicate with each other is through the use of letters. This will mean that they never physical see each other during the adaption. I have also introduced a mailman that represents Puck who acts as the mechanics of the play. Since all the characters never see each other in the adaption, I was able to create disturbance and chaos in the romances by using Puck to make the letters appear as if they were written by a different character. The difference between the original Midsummers Night Dream and my adaption is that Puck places the love potion accidently in the original, whereas in my adaption Puck, for whom is now the leading character, intentional gives the letters to the wrong address and create confusion that satisfies his entertainment needs. The program focuses on giving students with leadership potential the knowledge, skills, and tools to become leaders not only on campus but in their future careers. For me, the proof of this method of producing leadership is shown by the upperclassmen in the program. As a freshman, the upperclassmen are my role models, and I rely on them to set an example of what I can do with my developing leadership. When I met with my LUT mentor, Emma Diesing, earlier in the semester, she set an incredibly high standard for leadership. She is so inspiring because she is only a sophomore and has already achieved so much at the University of Toledo. So when it came to choosing a student leader on campus to interview, I knew she was absolutely the right person to ask. Each person has their own leadership style. For Emma, she places communication and hands on opportunities at the top of her list. It was clear during her interview that she enjoys being involved with other people by leading activities through instruction. She described being very easy going when leading, only becoming very deliberate with her leadership if others are not respecting her or the task at hand. For me, on the other hand, I think I have a bit of a different leadership style. I think I lead more by example than through instruction. I would rather volunteer and contribute work to my group than communicate. I tend to be very serious ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. Socrates Views On Plato s Dialogue In Plato s dialogue Crito, Socrates is awaiting his execution in prison when his friend Crito comes to convince him to escape. Socrates argues against Crito with his belief being that escaping from prison would by an unjust act. It is Socrates belief that you should never commit an injustice act for any reason, and that it is in your best interest to act justly. In the arguments presented in Crito, we see Socrates belief as underlying factor and recurring theme. Crito goes to see Socrates and starts by letting him know that he cares about him, then proceeds to spew out all of his arguments. The first argument brought up was that he will ruin the reputation of his friends and family. His reasoning being that if people saw Crito and knew that he let Socrates die, he would be seen as a selfish and avaricious person. Secondly, Crito explains that he already bribed the guards and that he will set Socrates up in another city. There he can live freely, keep philosophizing, and be with friends and family. He then argues that Socrates would be self contradicting by accepting his sentence instead of putting up a heroic fight for what he believes in. Crito claims that this would be an act of cowardice, the opposite of what Socrates had always taught. The next point presented is that he would be bad for abandoning his children. His last argument is that it would be morally wrong for Socrates to accept and cooperate with Athenian law if the Athenian law wrongfully accused him and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. William Shakespeare s Sonnet 18 Sonnet 18 may be the most famous lyric poem in English. Among Shakespeare s works, only lines such as To be or not to be and Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? are better known. On the surface, this poem is a statement of praise about the beauty of the speaker s love interest, but when you look closely you can see how the speaker is actually praising himself for his skills. This is also Shakespeare s first poem in the sonnets that doesn t explicitly encourage having children. The procreation sequence of the first seventeen sonnets ended with the speaker s realization that the they might not need children to preserve beauty, but he could also live in my rhyme as he says in Sonnet 17. Sonnet 18 is the first poem in which the speaker first attempts to preserve the beauty for all time, and is also a perfect example of classic Shakespearean style of writing and usage of metaphors. This poem uses several different metaphors, personification, multiple themes, and follows a traditional form to get across the point to the reader that the speaker is a well skilled and masterful poet. Four strong themes in this poem are change, fate, love, and eternity. At first glance, the poem appears as if the speaker is praising and complimenting his lover, but through closer examination you can see that the speakers main focus is showing how good of a writer he is. Images and symbols of time, decay, and eternity are in this poem because whether or not we think the lover is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His stories explore the darker side of the Romantic imagination, dealing with the grotesque, the supernatural, and the horrifying. He defined the form of the American short story. As one might expect, Poe himself eschewed conventional morality, which he believed stems from man s attempts to dictate the purposes of God. Poe saw God more as process than purpose. He believed that moralists derive their beliefs, and thus, the resultant behavioral patterns, from a priori knowledge. In Eureka, we find that Poe shunned such artifices of mind, systems which, he professed, have no basis in reality. Yet Poe employed in his writing the diction of the moral ... The roots of labor unions in the United States dates back to the late 18th Century, when skilled craftsmen joined forces against low product prices. Since then, labor unions have been practical to both the economy and the people which it employes. It has allowed laborers to make great strides in the protection of rights in their work. It has also increased wages, causing a strengthening of the middle class. Because of the benefits to the workers, an increase in wages, making a stronger middle class , and its historic success for the economy in struggling times , unionization is generally a better option than non unionization. The essential reason why unions exist is for the benefits of its workers. Throughout the history of the United States labor unions have been created to protect the working class from harsh conditions and low wages. For example, the American Federation of Labor (AFL) formed to lobby to raise the workers wages, and improve the conditions in which they worked. A formal definition of franchising is a continuing relationship in which a franchisor provides a licensed privilege to the franchisee to do business and offers assistance in organizing, training, merchandising, marketing and managing in return for a monetary consideration (Franchising, n.d.). Death Versus Death By Emily Dickinson Maheen Chranya English HP E Ratliff April 21, 2015 Term Paper Rough Draft HP: _____________________ Death versus Death but the Points go to Dickinson Emily Dickinson was born in a time when not many women involved themselves in poetry or any form of intellectual capability. Despite this, she was such a wonderful poet that her poetry rivaled Whitman s. Of course, she was never able to rival him because she chose not to publish her poetry in her lifetime. Once the world saw her poetry, however, it was shocked by the literary genius who had lived in seclusion for a good majority of her life. Her style is very distinguishable through it is excessive but purposeful punctuation and 8 6 8 6 rhyme that matches church songs and patriotic songs like Amazing Grace and Glory to God on High. The church influenced more than her style, however, as much of her subject matter pertains to her unorthodox beliefs. Other subjects include hope and sometimes humor, but her ideas on death are both very interesting and complicated. Dickinson does not make light of death, but she uses her poems as her diary to record her thoughts on death. She moves rapidly from thinking death is passive to thinking it is an amazing honor, but she also thinks of it in a terrified sense. Emily Dickinson s views on death are uncertain, she varies between finding death casual, positive and romantic, and negative in a series of several poems Many people may fear death, but Emily Dickinson sometimes expressed in her ... Creon Is The Tragic Hero In SophoclesAntigone Since a tragic hero is a literary character who makes a judgment error that inevitably leads to his/her own destruction, then Creon is the tragic hero in the play Antigone. In the play Antigone , Sophocles at first portrays Creon as a just leader. He has good, rational reasons for his laws and punishments. By the end of the play Creon s hubris, or excessive pride, has taken over him, which leads to his demise This started by two brothers leading opposite sides in Thebes civil war died fighting each other for the throne. Which were Polyneices and Eteocles. Creon, the new ruler of Thebes, has decided that Eteocles will be honored and his body will be sanctified by holy rites, and will be buried, and Polyneices will be in public shame and will left unburied. Antigone (Eteocles /Polyneices sister) wants to bury Polyneices body. But, Creon has stated if anybody was to due so he would have them killed. First off, his strong sense of leadership which catches up with him in the end causing destruction. Creon orders the guards to take Antigone away not caring for his son s feelings, since she is his fiancée. Creon feels the law should stand despite the fact that Antigone was his niece or how moral her act was. Bring her [Antigone] out! Let her die before his eyes... (Scene 3, 130). This quotes shows that Creon took his position as king seriously to the point where in he was willing to sacrifice the feelings of his own son. He was willing to be the cause of son s destruction just to prove that he is the king and always right. I will go... I buried her, I will set her free (scene 5, 102,104). Not only does this quote show leadership but also stubbornness he was risking his relationship with his son to prove that he was the leader of Thebes. Creon says another quote which shows his loyalty to his kingdom, I call to God to witness that if I saw my country headed for ruin, I should not be afraid to speak out plainly, (Sophocles, scene 1,24 26). Creon s tragic flaw, is he was hubris, which is another reason that causes his downfall. Creon will not listen to anyone. He is stubborn and his pride is so great, he can not bring himself to acknowledge that he could ever wrong. When Creon is talking to Teiresias, he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Morality of Human Cloning Essay The novel Brave New World presents us with a vision of a future where human beings are no longer born the natural way but are rather manufactured in identical batches to certain specifications. Where concepts like mother and father are scatological and children are taught only to keep the order and complete their predetermined occupations. By the end of the novel Mr. Huxley has us thankful that such a world is beyond our grasp. Whether or not a clone would be less than human begs us that we ought first discern what it is that defines a person as a person. Detailing free will and individualistic identity necessitate the ability to be self aware and to make decisions without requiring outside influence which, compose the basis of what delineates a human person. The problem of identity sometimes arises with identical twins in that we many times ascertain them to be the same person due merely to their often indistinguishable appearance. Experience however tells us that even though they have the same genetic profile they constitute discrete identities. • 40. The, The Butcher s Tale, By Helmut Walser Smith Late 19th Century Germany was a time seemingly stuck between two worlds the past and the future and this period s amount of rapid growth and change ultimately resulted in the decimation of German society as was known. This collapse allowed a river of hatred to flow in its place, known as Anti Semitism. Based on the primary and secondary sources discussed in and out of class, I believe there are three main reasons why such a horrendous belief system infiltrated 19th Century German society: conflict between urban and rural populations, rapid freedoms granted to the media, and the ignorance of German politicians who unknowingly or not, pushed political extremists agendas. Late 19th Century Germany was an ever changing political, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This estrangement left a disconnect in society that spread just from being urban or rural it expanded all the way to the government and society as a whole. Often times, people associate government with city as both are often far away and unaware of rural life and its needs. This caused a rift between the people and the government as the people implementing laws and decrees have no true knowledge of how it is affecting the people who are not directly at arms reach . This is most prominent in The Butcher s Tale where the author describes the government s attempts to bring in troops and investigators to quell the ongoing anti Semitic mob and in turn they are easily dispelled. The people in small towns around the German Empire like Konitz were aware that the government didn t understand their needs. This ultimately left them susceptible to the media that they learned their news from. Media was just as ever changing as the society it was taking place within. During this time, media was just beginning to become a nationwide phenomenon. In May of 1874, the Imperial Press Law decreed that there would be freedom of the press. This opened the door not only for more forms of media to be readily available, but also for media to now be interwoven with politics. Newspapers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout the process of reading this book I was shocked many times by the everyday acts of evil against innocent people. It is sad to know that they are so common in our world today. Acts such as robbery, rape and murder happen every day, and they don t always just take one thing from the victims. As Alex often shows us, during the process of evil acts the victims are dehumanized and beaten. The laws and regulations put in place today are supposed to protect people from ever experiencing these horrid acts, yet even in Alex s story, little justice is done for those who suffer. Society brings out the best and worst in people and often puts people in desperate situations, allowing the darkness to come forth. People have become selfish, cold and heart less without a care for the people around them. Our society and government today have created monsters and have done so without giving any type of cure or proper treatment to bring them back into the light. The darkness and evil that had consumed Alex is the same as the darkness that is in our very world today. The phrase method of scholars is an alternative title for the scientific method, for it is the absolute best set of methods in finding the truth, and of course the scholars would know. It has often been said that the greatest discovery in science was the discovery of the scientific method of discovery : (Feibleman, 1972). This method is an investigation in which a problem is initially identified. With this, observations, experiments, and other relevant data (provided by research) are then used to create or test hypotheses that lead to conclusions about the original problem. The steps involved in this process include: 1) Forming a testable hypothesis. 2) Devising a research plan and method of application. 3) Collecting data and researching. 4) Analyzing the data and reaching possible conclusions about the study. 5) Report findings. This research can be characterized as an activity of creative work that is carried out in a systematic way in an effort to increase knowledge and truth. In the field of psychology, this refers to the knowledge of the human mind, human behavior, cultures, and societies. In order to fully understand how researchers, scientists, psychologists, scholars, and students alike reach such conclusions, one needs to recognize the importance of the research process and measures that are applied when conducting the various types of psychological research. • 44. Liquidity Ratios and Activity Ratios 2.0 FINANCIAL RATIOS 2 Liquidity Ratios Liquidity ratios measure a business capacity to pay its debts as they come due. It also measures the cooperative s ability to meet short term obligations. Liquidity refers to the solvency of the firm s overall financial position the ease with which it can pay its bills. Because a common precursor to financial distress and bankruptcy is low or declining liquidity, these ratios can provide early signs of cash flow problems and impending business failure. The two basic measures of liquidity are the current ratio and the quick (acid test) ratio (Gitman, 2009). 1. Current ratios The current ratio is current assets divided by current liabilities. The current ratio ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No ratio, in fact, is especially meaningful without knowledge of the business from which it originates. For example, a declining quick ratio with a stable current ratio may indicate that a company has built up too much inventory, but it could also suggest that the company has greatly improved its collection system. Quick ratio is expressed as follows: Quick Ratio = Current assets Inventory / Current Liabilities Figure 2.2 explained the company s quick ratio has been improving from year on year from 0.51 in 2007 to 0.63 in 2008 and then increased to 0.69 in 2009. Quick ratio for 2009 is higher compared to the industry average quick ratio that is 0.65. Even though it has shown incremental improvement of their quick ratio and surpassed the industry average of 0.65 acid tests, the firm would have to sell inventory to meet its obligations. Comparing quick ratios over an extended period of time can be used to signal developing trends in a company. While modest declines in the quick ratio do not automatically spell trouble, uncovering the reasons for changes can help to find ways to nip potential problems in the bud. As for PJV s case, this is a good sign that the company progress steadily in improving its quick ratio over 3 years period in which may be resulting from its reduced inventories in 2009. The company s quick ratio can further be increased to a satisfactory level (at least 1:1) by improving its collection system and policy. Like the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The poem consists of several stylistic devices and illustrates a tomb for two married people in love. Individuals in love are members of the Arundel loyal family buried in the cathedral. Notably, the stylistic devices in the poem are aimed at developing a sustainable and a sensitive explanation of the scripture, which is followed by a gloomy and a sardonic reflection aimed at revealing the real situation and truthfully. The couple lay on each other s side to denote equality between the couple, with their faces being blurred and have become unrecognizable as the time passes, striping off their identical nature. The attire is also barely visible where the woman is wearing stiff folded dress while the man wears a jointed armor suit. • 46. Introduction. Circadian Or Diurnal Rhythms Are Metabolic Introduction Circadian or diurnal rhythms are metabolic or behavioural rhythms, in animals and plants, that occur usually within a 24 hour cycle (Abercrombie et al. 1990). The changes in body temperature over the course of a day (24 hours), or in the case of females, over a month, is one of the most documented human circadian rhythms. Body temperature as well as circadian rhythms in humans is controlled by the hypothalamus, a small region of the brain that forms part of the autonomic nervous system. The hypothalamus synthesizes neurohormones, which are used to control the secretions of other hormones by the pituitary gland, which is linked to the hypothalamus. It is well known that long distance flights have many effects on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact it is the hormone, melatonin which is released by the pineal gland that is responsible for controlling the sleep cycle (Society for Endocrinology, 2015). Melatonin production increases as it becomes dark and is supressed to a degree by light. Melatonin causes drowsiness by lowering the core body temperature. It has been found that the hormone is also released when one is stressed which can occur while in flight. The body reacts to the untimely release of melatonin and disrupts the circadian rhythm, which raises the body temperature and lowers it at the wrong time of day. It naturally will take time for the bodies internal clock to readjust to a normal rhythm, and, if travelling to a different time zone, the body has to adjust to a different day night cycle. Aims The main aim of this study and experiment is to see if all long haul flights, irrespective of direction, result in a degree of jet lag as reflected by one of the affected circadian rhythms, namely body temperature. The study aims to determine whether the hypothesis is correct. An additional aim is to see if average body temperature is lowered during the flight and fluctuates less than in a normal 24 hour cycle. Should there be enough suitable participants, another aim is to see whether people over the age of 30 take longer to return to their normal body temperature circadian rhythm than those under the age of 30. Research Hypothesis It takes between 36 and 48 hours to return to a
